So the two main branches are the college. 00:08:30.37\00:08:33.11 We also have an academy, a day academy 00:08:33.14\00:08:35.11 and the wellness center, 00:08:35.14\00:08:37.25 the Hartland Wellness Center is another main focus, 00:08:37.28\00:08:40.25 under that we also have the Hartland bookstore. 00:08:40.28\00:08:42.58 We have Last Generation, 00:08:42.62\00:08:43.95 which is an evangelistic magazine 00:08:43.99\00:08:47.09 and we have Piedmont camp 00:08:47.12\00:08:48.76 for youth from 12 to 17 years of age 00:08:48.79\00:08:51.56 and other smaller departments 00:08:51.59\00:08:53.40 that function as laboratories for our college students 00:08:53.43\00:08:57.93 to have real world practice in them. 00:08:57.97\00:09:00.27 And we're doing outreach to our community 00:09:00.30\00:09:02.20 through those programs. 00:09:02.24\00:09:03.57 Amen. Yeah. 00:09:03.61\00:09:05.07 All encompassing really when you look at it. 00:09:05.11\00:09:06.47 Yes, they're all integrated. 00:09:06.51\00:09:08.21 Yes. 00:09:08.24\00:09:09.58 And the conference center too, 00:09:09.61\00:09:10.95 because you have what we call camp meetings, 00:09:10.98\00:09:12.41 but you have like convocations 00:09:12.45\00:09:14.28 or your camp meetings at Hartland campus. 00:09:14.32\00:09:16.25 Every single quarter we have a convocation 00:09:16.28\00:09:19.22 and during the summer we have the summer conference, 00:09:19.25\00:09:21.19 which is coming up soon on July 14th. 00:09:21.22\00:09:23.63 So yes, every three months we have this great activity. 00:09:23.66\00:09:26.49 We invite selected speakers and lots of people come, 00:09:26.53\00:09:29.93 our students, we are all blessed. 00:09:29.96\00:09:31.67 So yes, the conference center has that purpose as well 00:09:31.70\00:09:33.94 to bless our students 00:09:33.97\00:09:35.50 and also to bless our surrounding community 00:09:35.54\00:09:38.44 with the testimonies our students get to share 00:09:38.47\00:09:41.34 as speakers in the early morning. 00:09:41.38\00:09:42.84 And then we have our guest speakers. 00:09:42.88\00:09:44.48 That's good. That's great. 00:09:44.51\00:09:45.85 And then what would be like full capacity for students? 00:09:45.88\00:09:47.38 Like if you were to be maxed out, 00:09:47.42\00:09:48.75 how many students can you handle? 00:09:48.78\00:09:50.79 Right now our max would be 85 students. 00:09:50.82\00:09:53.19 That's great. 00:09:53.22\00:09:54.56 And, of course, 00:09:54.59\00:09:55.92 we are looking forward to that good problem. 00:09:55.96\00:09:57.43 Amen. 00:09:57.46\00:09:58.79 You know I like that 00:09:58.83\00:10:00.16 because sometimes I don't wanna say, 00:10:00.20\00:10:01.53 can get too big, but I think there is the point 00:10:01.56\00:10:02.90 where a placing get so big 00:10:02.93\00:10:04.27 that you don't have that one on one 00:10:04.30\00:10:05.63 with the instructors that are there. 00:10:05.67\00:10:07.00 So I think that's a nice 00:10:07.04\00:10:08.37 actually amount of students to have. 00:10:08.40\00:10:09.74 That's one of the purpose of Hartland 00:10:09.77\00:10:12.37 is that when students come like Klay 00:10:12.41\00:10:14.31 and many other students from overseas, 00:10:14.34\00:10:17.05 because we have a high percentage 00:10:17.08\00:10:18.58 of overseas students. 00:10:18.61\00:10:19.95 Wonderful. 00:10:19.98\00:10:21.32 They can't find a college, but a family 00:10:21.35\00:10:22.95 because we believe that education is given 00:10:22.98\00:10:24.92 through the way we treat each other, 00:10:24.95\00:10:26.76 sharing with each other, not only in classroom, 00:10:26.79\00:10:29.42 but we want to go out of the classroom 00:10:29.46\00:10:30.93 to work with our students. 00:10:30.96\00:10:32.39 I can work with cleaning the farm, 00:10:32.43\00:10:34.20 but I'm teaching him as well. 00:10:34.23\00:10:36.16 We can coordinate outreach together, 00:10:36.20\00:10:38.23 it's just sharing time together. 00:10:38.27\00:10:40.64 So when we think in a college that we could be family 00:10:40.67\00:10:44.31 and develop relationships and the students can find 00:10:44.34\00:10:46.78 in the staff different people that they can connect with. 00:10:46.81\00:10:50.85 So that's one of the things that we really want to target. 00:10:50.88\00:10:55.35 I know we're going to be talking more detail 00:10:55.38\00:10:56.82 here about Hartland College, 00:10:56.85\00:10:58.39 but I'm thinking about the farm, 00:10:58.42\00:11:00.66 she mentioned that. 00:11:00.69\00:11:02.02 And I just have to talk about my experience right 00:11:02.06\00:11:03.39 when I was there too. 00:11:03.43\00:11:04.76 And I had the wonderful experience and I'm serious. 00:11:04.79\00:11:06.13 It was wonderful. 00:11:06.16\00:11:07.50 Actually, I spent some time in the watermelon field 00:11:07.53\00:11:11.80 and spent some time in the greenhouse. 00:11:11.83\00:11:13.27 You've been in the greenhouse? 00:11:13.30\00:11:14.64 Yes, I did. Yes. Okay, yeah. 00:11:14.67\00:11:16.50 And then the cafeteria, but I really liked 00:11:16.54\00:11:19.07 the balance at least, you know, 00:11:19.11\00:11:20.64 far as the work, the education. 00:11:20.68\00:11:22.74 And I know you've got some even new things 00:11:22.78\00:11:24.18 that you're working on to just increase that balance 00:11:24.21\00:11:26.51 at Hartland. 00:11:26.55\00:11:27.88 So I'm just excited about today in talking about Hartland 00:11:27.92\00:11:30.59 what God is doing there. 00:11:30.62\00:11:32.05 Amen. 00:11:32.09\00:11:33.42 I know the specific focus of this interview 00:11:33.46\00:11:34.79 is about Hartland College. 00:11:34.82\00:11:36.16 That's right. 00:11:36.19\00:11:37.53 The new developments and the curriculum, 00:11:37.56\00:11:38.89 and what's taking place, 00:11:38.93\00:11:40.26 the missionary training program. 00:11:40.30\00:11:41.63 But before we jump into that, 00:11:41.66\00:11:43.00 why don't you tell us just 00:11:43.03\00:11:44.37 how you came to Hartland College? 00:11:44.40\00:11:45.73 We'll start with Restrepos. 00:11:45.77\00:11:47.10 How the Lord led and brought you here? 00:11:47.14\00:11:49.47 Well, that's quite a journey, 00:11:49.50\00:11:51.17 but when shortly after the Hartland had started 00:11:51.21\00:11:55.48 looking for a new president to replace Dr. Colin Standish, 00:11:55.51\00:11:59.18 she was having some health challenges 00:11:59.21\00:12:01.78 and they started that search committee, 00:12:01.82\00:12:04.09 someone suggested our name to the committee 00:12:04.12\00:12:07.72 and they reached out to us, 00:12:07.76\00:12:09.16 actually a staff and a student from Hartland 00:12:09.19\00:12:11.16 reached out to us. 00:12:11.19\00:12:12.53 And at first I just thought it was kind of, 00:12:12.56\00:12:15.40 you know, that's something impossible, 00:12:15.43\00:12:17.93 so I didn't take it seriously. 00:12:17.97\00:12:20.17 But about a year later, 00:12:20.20\00:12:21.77 I received a phone call from Mr. Shin on January 16th, 2010. 00:12:21.80\00:12:27.51 Wow. 00:12:27.54\00:12:28.88 And I really started praying seriously about it 00:12:28.91\00:12:32.38 and thought, well, the Lord leads in strange ways. 00:12:32.41\00:12:35.65 Lord can lead in strange ways. 00:12:35.68\00:12:37.39 And we've always felt a burden for a young people 00:12:37.42\00:12:40.86 and to educate them in a way that their needs are met, 00:12:40.89\00:12:45.36 and they're prepared adequately 00:12:45.39\00:12:48.23 to be modern Waldensian missionaries. 00:12:48.26\00:12:51.30 So we thought, well, maybe God is opening a broader 00:12:51.33\00:12:54.17 opportunity to do that, 00:12:54.20\00:12:55.57 because we were doing that in South America, 00:12:55.60\00:12:58.11 we were doing it in Colombia. 00:12:58.14\00:12:59.47 We had a school by God's grace. We had 85 students. 00:12:59.51\00:13:01.98 We had two vegetarian restaurants. 00:13:02.01\00:13:04.31 We had a lifestyle center, we had a farm, 00:13:04.35\00:13:06.15 we had a publishing ministry, 00:13:06.18\00:13:08.02 but we understood that from the United States, 00:13:08.05\00:13:11.29 it would have a broader impact 00:13:11.32\00:13:12.85 and more in an institution that was already running. 00:13:12.89\00:13:15.26 Sure. 00:13:15.29\00:13:16.62 So eventually God led 00:13:16.66\00:13:17.99 and from the several candidates, 00:13:18.03\00:13:19.36 the board was impressed to select us 00:13:19.39\00:13:21.10 to come and serve in that capacity. 00:13:21.13\00:13:22.73 Amen. Amen. Praise the Lord. Wow. 00:13:22.76\00:13:24.80 And Dr. Karl, what about you? How did you come to Hartland? 00:13:24.83\00:13:27.34 What's your journey? 00:13:27.37\00:13:28.70 So I've been pastoring in Michigan 00:13:28.74\00:13:30.27 for about 18 years, 00:13:30.31\00:13:31.64 and I was led to move into doctoral studies. 00:13:31.67\00:13:35.31 I had a project that I really wanted to take hold of 00:13:35.34\00:13:38.51 and I became a Seventh-day Adventist Christian 00:13:38.55\00:13:41.55 when I was in my early 20s. 00:13:41.58\00:13:43.32 And at that point in my life, I thought, 00:13:43.35\00:13:45.35 you know, I had a lot of questions. 00:13:45.39\00:13:47.46 I knew kind of the mindset of people 00:13:47.49\00:13:50.86 that were maybe coming into the church 00:13:50.89\00:13:52.59 and the things that I struggled with, 00:13:52.63\00:13:53.96 I thought this would be a good time to give back. 00:13:54.00\00:13:56.43 And so I was led to go into education. 00:13:56.46\00:13:58.47 I was teaching at Ouachita Hills for 10 years. 00:13:58.50\00:14:01.37 And as I finished the PhD from Andrews, 00:14:01.40\00:14:06.47 I thought, okay, Lord, I don't know what's next door 00:14:06.51\00:14:09.48 after door, after door, after door closed, 00:14:09.51\00:14:11.78 I was beginning to think what on earth was happening. 00:14:11.81\00:14:14.78 And finally the call came from Hartland 00:14:14.82\00:14:16.99 and it was to teach maybe a class or two. 00:14:17.02\00:14:19.79 And then the interim religion department chair reached out 00:14:19.82\00:14:23.53 and said, well, we're actually looking for a department chair. 00:14:23.56\00:14:26.49 And I thought, wow, 00:14:26.53\00:14:28.16 this would be a great opportunity 00:14:28.20\00:14:29.70 then to become a part of giving back, 00:14:29.73\00:14:31.97 learning to shape a department. 00:14:32.00\00:14:33.84 We do live in tumultuous times. We do. 00:14:33.87\00:14:36.84 The message had such an impact on me. 00:14:36.87\00:14:39.14 And so just went through the interview process 00:14:39.17\00:14:41.54 and it has been a wonderful experience in this first year. 00:14:41.58\00:14:44.71 Amen. That's great. 00:14:44.75\00:14:46.35 What a blessing you are to the staff. 00:14:46.38\00:14:47.98 I can see that already. Praise the Lord. 00:14:48.02\00:14:50.89 And what about you? 00:14:50.92\00:14:52.25 What's your journey to Hartland? 00:14:52.29\00:14:53.62 Well, I never heard of Hartland before, 00:14:53.66\00:14:55.76 so I was in the jungle war zone, 00:14:55.79\00:14:58.26 which is in Burma. 00:14:58.29\00:15:00.06 And it was a time where we have 00:15:00.10\00:15:03.06 a very war happening. 00:15:03.10\00:15:06.74 It was the... 00:15:06.77\00:15:08.10 I think two Adventist school need to run away from the war, 00:15:08.14\00:15:11.77 and then they weren't able to continue their study 00:15:11.81\00:15:15.21 until the end of the school year. 00:15:15.24\00:15:17.18 And it was there as surely. 00:15:17.21\00:15:19.68 Internet was very hard 00:15:19.71\00:15:21.32 and somehow I opened my messenger 00:15:21.35\00:15:23.35 and I found hotline.edu. 00:15:23.39\00:15:25.79 Wow. 00:15:25.82\00:15:27.16 And my supervisor told me that, check it out. 00:15:27.19\00:15:29.79 This is the only school that I can find for you 00:15:29.82\00:15:32.89 to have a safety place. 00:15:32.93\00:15:34.76 He spoke as a spiritually. 00:15:34.80\00:15:37.13 And then I tried to download the catalog 00:15:37.17\00:15:39.87 and going to the, up to the hill 00:15:39.90\00:15:42.60 and try to download it for two hours. 00:15:42.64\00:15:45.27 When I try here usually it is less than two seconds. 00:15:45.31\00:15:50.28 So you were trying to climb up on a hill 00:15:50.31\00:15:51.65 to get a better reception to download. 00:15:51.68\00:15:53.62 Wow. Praise the Lord. 00:15:53.65\00:15:54.98 And what year are you, you said again? 00:15:55.02\00:15:57.12 This is my third year. Third year? 00:15:57.15\00:15:58.65 Yep. Okay. Fantastic. Well, praise the Lord. 00:15:58.69\00:16:01.96 You know, God has us all on a journey. 00:16:01.99\00:16:03.32 Think about it. 00:16:03.36\00:16:04.69 You know, you been president now 00:16:04.73\00:16:06.06 for over 10 years in Hartland Institute. 00:16:06.09\00:16:08.70 And what an incredible job 00:16:08.73\00:16:10.10 you're doing with your team there, 00:16:10.13\00:16:12.20 but what are some of the new developments happening 00:16:12.23\00:16:14.24 at Hartland College? 00:16:14.27\00:16:15.60 I know that there's some exciting things 00:16:15.64\00:16:16.97 taking place there. 00:16:17.01\00:16:18.34 Yes. 00:16:18.37\00:16:19.71 Today we wanna highlight four major developments 00:16:19.74\00:16:21.08 and we thank the Lord so much for them, 00:16:21.11\00:16:22.71 as Jill was mentioning earlier, 00:16:22.74\00:16:24.71 God has called us to give the great commission. 00:16:24.75\00:16:27.02 Yes. 00:16:27.05\00:16:28.38 To share the everlasting gospel 00:16:28.42\00:16:29.88 and make disciples in every nation of the world. 00:16:29.92\00:16:33.52 And as we feel that call, 00:16:33.56\00:16:35.09 it brings to my mind a paragraph 00:16:35.12\00:16:37.03 from the book Ministry of Healing, 00:16:37.06\00:16:38.93 True Education and Missionary Training. 00:16:38.96\00:16:41.63 "True education is missionary training. 00:16:41.66\00:16:44.20 Every son and daughter of God is called to be a missionary. 00:16:44.23\00:16:47.77 To fit us for this service 00:16:47.80\00:16:49.27 should be the object of our education." 00:16:49.30\00:16:51.61 And then the Spirit of Prophecy adds, 00:16:51.64\00:16:54.44 "We know not in what line our children may serve. 00:16:54.48\00:16:57.95 They may spend their lives within the circle of the home, 00:16:57.98\00:17:01.18 they may engage in life's common vocations, 00:17:01.22\00:17:04.25 or go as teachers of the gospel to heathen lands, 00:17:04.29\00:17:07.72 but all are alike called to be missionaries." 00:17:07.76\00:17:11.43 So how to make this relevant in the 21st century. 00:17:11.46\00:17:14.93 Yeah. 00:17:14.96\00:17:16.30 So we started out by asking questions at GYC, ASI. 00:17:16.33\00:17:19.30 We developed a survey, we put it online 00:17:19.33\00:17:21.70 and we started getting answers. 00:17:21.74\00:17:23.87 And what the response we got is young people 00:17:23.91\00:17:27.31 who are missionary minded. 00:17:27.34\00:17:28.81 They want a place where they can become solidly 00:17:28.84\00:17:32.45 established in the biblical message 00:17:32.48\00:17:35.38 that God has entrusted 00:17:35.42\00:17:36.75 the Seventh-day Adventist Church. 00:17:36.79\00:17:38.12 They also want to know how to share it 00:17:38.15\00:17:39.52 effectively with others. 00:17:39.55\00:17:41.66 They want to know the tools 00:17:41.69\00:17:44.19 to be able to share their faith in the 21st century. 00:17:44.23\00:17:47.83 That's good. 00:17:47.86\00:17:49.20 And they also want to be able to embed that training 00:17:49.23\00:17:52.23 in a professional career, 00:17:52.27\00:17:54.40 that they can be effective in our current society. 00:17:54.44\00:17:57.47 So how can you bring these three things together? 00:17:57.51\00:18:00.71 That was our quest, and that is our journey. 00:18:00.74\00:18:03.71 As a result of that 00:18:03.75\00:18:05.85 we developed the following four products. 00:18:05.88\00:18:07.65 Okay. 00:18:07.68\00:18:09.02 So we have improved our core curriculum, 00:18:09.05\00:18:11.05 which are the main classes that every Hartland student, 00:18:11.09\00:18:14.02 no matter what major they're taking has to take. 00:18:14.06\00:18:16.69 Okay. 00:18:16.73\00:18:18.06 So that's an amazing development, 00:18:18.09\00:18:19.43 they're very intentional. 00:18:19.46\00:18:20.80 And what would be some of the classes 00:18:20.83\00:18:22.16 that are in the new core curriculum? 00:18:22.20\00:18:24.07 So some of the new classes in the new core curriculum are, 00:18:24.10\00:18:27.74 they emphasize, of course 00:18:27.77\00:18:29.57 our Seventh-day Adventist message. 00:18:29.60\00:18:31.37 So every student is well grounded in that, 00:18:31.41\00:18:33.41 how to study the Bible and how to share it. 00:18:33.44\00:18:35.94 Oh, good. 00:18:35.98\00:18:37.31 Then we have the emphasis on the missiology, 00:18:37.35\00:18:41.92 cross-cultural ministry, world religions, discipleship, 00:18:41.95\00:18:47.39 church growth strategies, prayer coaching, 00:18:47.42\00:18:50.53 a lot of tools so that they can be effective. 00:18:50.56\00:18:53.93 Then on top of that, 00:18:53.96\00:18:55.30 we have another series of classes 00:18:55.33\00:18:56.73 such as digital ministry foundations. 00:18:56.77\00:18:59.50 In the 21st century 00:18:59.53\00:19:00.87 every single graduate needs to know tools 00:19:00.90\00:19:03.61 to be able to reach people through media. 00:19:03.64\00:19:05.77 So even if you're not a media student, 00:19:05.81\00:19:07.14 you're gonna attend that class. 00:19:07.18\00:19:08.51 Wow. You say that, that's powerful. 00:19:08.54\00:19:09.88 That's really good. 00:19:09.91\00:19:11.25 I like that. That's considered a core. 00:19:11.28\00:19:12.61 Yes. 00:19:12.65\00:19:13.98 It's part of the core curriculum. 00:19:14.02\00:19:15.35 Another core class is a teaching seminar 00:19:15.38\00:19:18.82 because they all need to be effective teachers 00:19:18.85\00:19:21.29 and other core class is the entrepreneurial mindset. 00:19:21.32\00:19:24.46 Ooh, I love it. 00:19:24.49\00:19:25.83 Ministry and leadership, ministry and economics. 00:19:25.86\00:19:28.80 So even if you're taking education. 00:19:28.83\00:19:30.73 Yeah. Take these core classes. 00:19:30.77\00:19:32.10 Exactly, core classes 00:19:32.13\00:19:33.50 to give them this very balanced structure 00:19:33.54\00:19:36.27 to all of them. 00:19:36.30\00:19:37.64 Then we're adding on top of that. 00:19:37.67\00:19:39.61 You know, and we'll talk more about that later. 00:19:39.64\00:19:42.21 And some of Dr. Karl will explain 00:19:42.24\00:19:44.15 more and my wife as well 00:19:44.18\00:19:45.68 about the Hartland Missionary Training School, 00:19:45.71\00:19:47.98 which is a summer program that is focusing specially 00:19:48.02\00:19:51.65 on missionary training and soul-winning tools. 00:19:51.69\00:19:53.49 That's brand new as well, then. Yeah. 00:19:53.52\00:19:54.99 That's also brand new. Wow. 00:19:55.02\00:19:56.52 And then every single major in the curriculum 00:19:56.56\00:19:59.96 is being revamped, 00:20:00.00\00:20:01.36 so that it can be more effective 00:20:01.40\00:20:03.50 career oriented 00:20:03.53\00:20:04.87 over this platform of missionary training, 00:20:04.90\00:20:07.04 because the last and great development 00:20:07.07\00:20:08.57 is that we're pursuing accreditation 00:20:08.60\00:20:10.34 so that all of our graduates 00:20:10.37\00:20:12.04 can be able to perform as missionaries 00:20:12.07\00:20:14.44 in a wide variety of settings. 00:20:14.48\00:20:16.48 And thus they will not be limited 00:20:16.51\00:20:18.38 in the ways they can serve the Lord. 00:20:18.41\00:20:20.72 Amen. Wow. 00:20:20.75\00:20:22.18 That's a lot of exciting things that are taking place, 00:20:22.22\00:20:24.32 a lot of new things. 00:20:24.35\00:20:25.69 For some, that's not familiar with Hartland, 00:20:25.72\00:20:27.16 I don't know which one of you wanna talk about this, 00:20:27.19\00:20:28.52 but what are the majors 00:20:28.56\00:20:29.89 that are offered at Hartland College 00:20:29.92\00:20:31.26 that might help some of us 00:20:31.29\00:20:32.63 listening right now or watching saying, 00:20:32.66\00:20:34.00 wow, that's Hartland sounds interesting. 00:20:34.03\00:20:35.36 What do they have to offer? 00:20:35.40\00:20:36.73 Well, we have religion majors, media majors. 00:20:36.77\00:20:38.70 Klay is a health major. 00:20:38.73\00:20:40.77 Okay. 00:20:40.80\00:20:42.14 Education majors, 00:20:42.17\00:20:43.51 not sure whether I've left anything. 00:20:43.54\00:20:44.87 And midwifery. 00:20:44.91\00:20:46.24 Wow. Okay. That's a lot. 00:20:46.27\00:20:48.64 And then the courses are a couple of years, four years. 00:20:48.68\00:20:51.61 What's kind of the term 00:20:51.65\00:20:53.45 that someone has to think about committing to? 00:20:53.48\00:20:55.75 Yeah. 00:20:55.78\00:20:57.12 I know in my department 00:20:57.15\00:20:58.55 that we have four year level courses 00:20:58.59\00:21:01.69 in which they can be majors, 00:21:01.72\00:21:03.76 religion majors offer also offering 00:21:03.79\00:21:05.66 of religion major, minor. 00:21:05.69\00:21:07.03 But we also believe that there's room 00:21:07.06\00:21:08.40 for like a two year associate degree as well. 00:21:08.43\00:21:11.27 So those are some of the things that I know 00:21:11.30\00:21:13.34 religion is offering. 00:21:13.37\00:21:14.70 Okay. 00:21:14.74\00:21:16.07 And that'd be like for the media major as well, 00:21:16.10\00:21:17.44 then the health, maybe there's a two year option 00:21:17.47\00:21:19.17 and a four year? 00:21:19.21\00:21:20.54 Definitely. 00:21:20.58\00:21:21.91 So we have baccalaureate programs 00:21:21.94\00:21:23.28 and we have associate degree programs to students. 00:21:23.31\00:21:25.81 And within each one of these programs, 00:21:25.85\00:21:28.58 these departments, we have different tracks. 00:21:28.62\00:21:30.95 So Dr. Karl will explain more, 00:21:30.99\00:21:32.85 like you have two tracks within, currently 00:21:32.89\00:21:35.02 within the religion department? 00:21:35.06\00:21:36.39 Yeah, that is correct. 00:21:36.42\00:21:37.76 So the one track 00:21:37.79\00:21:39.13 can take you to the theological seminary at Andrews. 00:21:39.16\00:21:41.76 So including like Greek and Hebrew, 00:21:41.80\00:21:43.93 things of that sort, then there's another track 00:21:43.97\00:21:46.57 that can be combined with maybe having like a health minor. 00:21:46.60\00:21:50.41 We're privileged to have the lifestyle center there. 00:21:50.44\00:21:52.54 So there's a lot of activity and knowledge 00:21:52.57\00:21:54.64 and training that's involved there. 00:21:54.68\00:21:57.01 And as we all know, 00:21:57.05\00:21:58.91 Jesus did as much healing 00:21:58.95\00:22:00.28 as He did preaching and teaching. 00:22:00.32\00:22:01.65 And so, so that offers students the combination 00:22:01.68\00:22:05.05 of the religion major and like something like a health minor 00:22:05.09\00:22:07.16 or media, as we think about the 21st century. 00:22:07.19\00:22:09.32 Very good. That's excellent. 00:22:09.36\00:22:11.69 And then in education, we have elementary 00:22:11.73\00:22:13.53 and secondary education with emphasis in religion 00:22:13.56\00:22:17.57 and also in health education. 00:22:17.60\00:22:19.73 And Dr. Andrew Smith is the new chair 00:22:19.77\00:22:22.64 of the education department. 00:22:22.67\00:22:24.31 He's been a blessing just as we have Dr. Karl, 00:22:24.34\00:22:27.21 the Lord has led us to highly qualified people 00:22:27.24\00:22:30.35 with years of experience, with the academic credentials 00:22:30.38\00:22:33.78 to be able to take our institution 00:22:33.82\00:22:35.58 to the next level. 00:22:35.62\00:22:36.95 And most importantly, with a heart and passion 00:22:36.99\00:22:40.19 for mission and the Seventh-day Adventist message. 00:22:40.22\00:22:43.22 So, you know, we could go on and explain. 00:22:43.26\00:22:45.53 I'll just mention briefly, within the health department 00:22:45.56\00:22:48.33 we are offering three baccalaureate programs 00:22:48.36\00:22:50.27 that will start this fall. 00:22:50.30\00:22:52.33 The first one is a health science educator 00:22:52.37\00:22:55.24 with emphasis in lifestyle. 00:22:55.27\00:22:56.97 The second one is a foods and nutrition 00:22:57.01\00:22:59.77 of bachelor's degree. 00:22:59.81\00:23:01.14 And the third one is pre-health professional. 00:23:01.18\00:23:04.78 And in this pre-health professional, 00:23:04.81\00:23:06.61 we are structuring it in such a way 00:23:06.65\00:23:08.28 that if you want to move on 00:23:08.32\00:23:09.65 to do medicine or dental school 00:23:09.68\00:23:11.02 or other these type of professional health careers, 00:23:11.05\00:23:14.79 then that will enable them to move on. 00:23:14.82\00:23:16.93 Amen. 00:23:16.96\00:23:18.29 This is exciting to hear the developments 00:23:18.33\00:23:20.40 that's taking place at Hartland College, 00:23:20.43\00:23:22.13 Hartland Institute, 00:23:22.16\00:23:23.60 and to me this concept of moving toward accreditation 00:23:23.63\00:23:27.37 is revolutionary 00:23:27.40\00:23:28.80 because the graduates can engage in jobs 00:23:28.84\00:23:32.24 in today's society, 00:23:32.27\00:23:33.61 but yet keep the focus on mission. 00:23:33.64\00:23:37.65 The focus on spreading 00:23:37.68\00:23:39.01 the three angles' messages and evangelism. 00:23:39.05\00:23:41.85 So to have the marriage, you could say, 00:23:41.88\00:23:43.99 the partnership of the two is amazing. 00:23:44.02\00:23:46.96 I know that you have a video, a couple of videos. 00:23:46.99\00:23:50.39 The first video that we're going to go to is 00:23:50.43\00:23:52.76 a video of just telling you 00:23:52.79\00:23:54.36 what Hartland College is all about. 00:23:54.40\00:23:56.43 For the last 35 years, Hartland College has provided 00:24:18.42\00:24:21.79 a training ground for students 00:24:21.82\00:24:23.73 who want to be risk takers for the gospel. 00:24:23.76\00:24:26.53 The Hartland training isn't for anyone, 00:24:26.56\00:24:28.66 but it is for those who want to fulfill their calling 00:24:28.70\00:24:30.93 to push the three angels' message forward. 00:24:30.97\00:24:33.03 Here, we aim to keep the standards of God 00:24:33.07\00:24:35.64 above the standards of the world. 00:24:35.67\00:24:37.51 We provide an education 00:24:37.54\00:24:39.11 that designed to give 00:24:39.14\00:24:40.48 a practical hands on experience, 00:24:40.51\00:24:42.38 along with that 00:24:42.41\00:24:43.75 which is studied in the classrooms. 00:24:43.78\00:24:45.91 Oh! So that's how the heart works? 00:24:45.95\00:24:48.02 Exactly! 00:24:48.05\00:24:49.48 That's how the heart works! 00:24:49.52\00:24:52.12 As a four year college, 00:24:52.15\00:24:53.49 we help students integrate faith and learning 00:24:53.52\00:24:55.59 from beyond the classroom out into the mission field. 00:24:55.62\00:24:58.99 And by organizing events like foreign mission trips, 00:24:59.03\00:25:03.23 community health fairs, Bible studies, 00:25:03.26\00:25:06.84 music concerts, youth programs, 00:25:06.87\00:25:10.41 summer camps 00:25:10.44\00:25:12.87 and so much more. 00:25:12.91\00:25:16.54 The students have opportunities to apply textbook knowledge 00:25:16.58\00:25:20.05 into real life situations. 00:25:20.08\00:25:22.38 Our passion is to train medical missionaries 00:25:22.42\00:25:24.85 and to reach the community with our lifestyle center. 00:25:24.89\00:25:27.79 To train midwives to touch the lives of mothers 00:25:27.82\00:25:30.46 in their most vulnerable times. 00:25:30.49\00:25:32.36 To trained teachers who will inspire the love 00:25:32.39\00:25:34.80 of learning for a lifetime. 00:25:34.83\00:25:36.56 To train writers, designers and producers 00:25:36.60\00:25:39.90 who can create life changing content. 00:25:39.93\00:25:42.14 To train pastors and Bible workers 00:25:42.17\00:25:44.31 to feed a hungry world. 00:25:44.34\00:25:45.81 And finally, to train a generation of young people 00:25:45.84\00:25:49.31 who will be equipped 00:25:49.34\00:25:50.68 to fulfill the Gospel Commission 00:25:50.71\00:25:52.28 to finish the work with the Adventist message. 00:25:52.31\00:25:56.52 Now you have the opportunity 00:25:56.55\00:25:58.25 to change lives around the world. 00:25:58.29\00:26:01.92 Visit hartland.edu to partner with us today. 00:26:01.96\00:26:04.09 Amen. Wow. 00:26:19.31\00:26:20.64 What an incredible video and a good job. 00:26:20.68\00:26:22.11 I'm sure your media team put that together as well. 00:26:22.14\00:26:24.25 And, of course, we look at production a lot here. 00:26:24.28\00:26:27.15 That's good quality right there, 00:26:27.18\00:26:29.38 but it's amazing to see those buildings. 00:26:29.42\00:26:31.19 You know, a lot of them are the same. 00:26:31.22\00:26:33.09 Of course it's been years since Jill and I were there. 00:26:33.12\00:26:34.56 And as we're watching that, Jill said, 00:26:34.59\00:26:35.92 "That was my room over there." 00:26:35.96\00:26:38.49 But yeah, incredible work that you're doing there. 00:26:38.53\00:26:40.66 And I like that at the end there, 00:26:40.70\00:26:42.06 equipping young people to finish the work. 00:26:42.10\00:26:45.03 That's what it's all about. 00:26:45.07\00:26:46.40 You know, that's why you're talking about donors 00:26:46.43\00:26:47.80 and supporters, right? 00:26:47.84\00:26:49.17 That's why people give, 00:26:49.20\00:26:50.54 that's why you give to support the Ministry of 3ABN. 00:26:50.57\00:26:51.91 It's about finishing the work 00:26:51.94\00:26:53.41 and about finding souls for the kingdom of God. 00:26:53.44\00:26:56.34 That's what it's all about. 00:26:56.38\00:26:57.71 And young people to think about that, 00:26:57.75\00:26:59.08 it's incredible, right? 00:26:59.11\00:27:00.45 You're training them, you're teaching them 00:27:00.48\00:27:01.82 and then it's like a ripple, right? 00:27:01.85\00:27:03.18 That person then creates their own ripple, 00:27:03.22\00:27:04.55 gets bigger and bigger and all these little ripples 00:27:04.59\00:27:06.49 and you're covering the entire world. 00:27:06.52\00:27:07.86 Amen. 00:27:07.89\00:27:09.22 Education, of course, I mean, means a lot to you 00:27:09.26\00:27:10.59 because you took education at Hartland, 00:27:10.63\00:27:12.19 but, yeah incredible job. 00:27:12.23\00:27:14.66 So speaking of accreditation, 00:27:14.70\00:27:16.20 I know just before we were mentioning that. 00:27:16.23\00:27:19.73 Some people might be saying, 00:27:19.77\00:27:21.10 but is accreditation wrong, 00:27:21.14\00:27:23.51 and should Hartland be pursuing accreditation? 00:27:23.54\00:27:26.84 So what would you say to that? 00:27:26.88\00:27:29.11 Definitely it is a valid concern 00:27:29.14\00:27:31.61 and there are many people who come to the conclusion 00:27:31.65\00:27:35.72 that accreditation is synonymous 00:27:35.75\00:27:38.22 with compromise of the principles of education, 00:27:38.25\00:27:41.79 that when you have an external agency 00:27:41.82\00:27:45.03 hovering over your institution and some belief 00:27:45.06\00:27:48.80 even dictating what you have to do, 00:27:48.83\00:27:50.83 then that can derail you. 00:27:50.87\00:27:52.80 So those are valid concerns. 00:27:52.83\00:27:54.84 However, they're also based on certain conclusions drawn. 00:27:54.87\00:27:59.57 But when we take a closer look at what accreditation is. 00:27:59.61\00:28:03.08 Accreditation is quality control, 00:28:03.11\00:28:06.18 but it's quality control based on what you, 00:28:06.21\00:28:08.38 yourself determined to offer. 00:28:08.42\00:28:10.75 So as an institution, you have to be very clear, 00:28:10.79\00:28:12.59 what is your mission? 00:28:12.62\00:28:13.96 What is your curriculum? 00:28:13.99\00:28:15.32 What is it that you're offering? 00:28:15.36\00:28:16.69 What are the learning outcomes that you are promising 00:28:16.73\00:28:18.66 by God's grace, 00:28:18.69\00:28:20.03 then they will hold you accountable 00:28:20.06\00:28:22.23 to what you are actually offering. 00:28:22.26\00:28:25.00 So people need to understand that that's very crucial. 00:28:25.03\00:28:28.50 Now, what are some of the pitfalls? 00:28:28.54\00:28:30.27 Definitely, if you need to strengthen your program 00:28:30.31\00:28:34.64 and in that effort, you start bringing in individuals 00:28:34.68\00:28:38.11 who don't have the same mindset, 00:28:38.15\00:28:39.95 who don't share the same goals, 00:28:39.98\00:28:41.35 who don't have the same passion for mission. 00:28:41.38\00:28:43.82 Then eventually you will be derailed. 00:28:43.85\00:28:46.05 And that's where we have to be careful, 00:28:46.09\00:28:47.89 make sure that you recruit, you hire people 00:28:47.92\00:28:49.76 who are like-minded with the same passion 00:28:49.79\00:28:51.86 for winning souls and for the principles 00:28:51.89\00:28:54.26 that God has entrusted His church with. 00:28:54.30\00:28:56.16 So there is no reason to fear. 00:28:56.20\00:28:57.63 In fact, the Spirit of Prophecy makes it clear that 00:28:57.67\00:28:59.43 we should educate our young people 00:28:59.47\00:29:01.10 in our institutions 00:29:01.14\00:29:02.47 so that they can be licensed and they can perform 00:29:02.50\00:29:05.17 and not have to send them to other institutions 00:29:05.21\00:29:07.51 because we cannot provide that foundation. 00:29:07.54\00:29:11.91 Yeah, no, that's a great question. 00:29:11.95\00:29:13.28 'Cause I know some people do think, 00:29:13.31\00:29:14.65 you know, our thought, wow, you know, it's compromise, 00:29:14.68\00:29:16.22 you know, you don't want to be diluted in any way. 00:29:16.25\00:29:18.59 So yeah, that's great. 00:29:18.62\00:29:19.95 So, yeah, thank you for answering that question. 00:29:19.99\00:29:21.49 I know we have some pictures. 00:29:21.52\00:29:23.16 Should we go to some of those, 00:29:23.19\00:29:24.53 'cause I know time's getting away from us. 00:29:24.56\00:29:25.89 We want to hear your testimony as well 00:29:25.93\00:29:27.26 and talk about the summer training program too. 00:29:27.30\00:29:29.53 So, yeah, tell us about the pictures 00:29:29.56\00:29:30.90 as we're getting ready to see here? 00:29:30.93\00:29:32.27 Yes. 00:29:32.30\00:29:33.64 So we can start with the entrance of Hartland, 00:29:33.67\00:29:36.04 established in 1983 by Seventh-day Adventists. 00:29:36.07\00:29:39.24 And we, as I mentioned before, 00:29:39.27\00:29:40.98 we're blessed to have a wonderful campus 00:29:41.01\00:29:42.78 of more than 600 acres of trails 00:29:42.81\00:29:46.08 to the riverfront and all that. 00:29:46.11\00:29:48.88 This is the main building, the mansion, 00:29:48.92\00:29:50.72 the administrative building. 00:29:50.75\00:29:53.66 We have guest rooms in the second floor, 00:29:53.69\00:29:55.89 which used to be ladies room. 00:29:55.92\00:29:57.53 We can use them as well in the future. 00:29:57.56\00:29:59.19 This is the lifestyle center and college section as well. 00:29:59.23\00:30:04.43 So the main section of that building 00:30:04.47\00:30:06.23 is the lifestyle center. 00:30:06.27\00:30:07.60 And then there is a smaller section 00:30:07.64\00:30:09.00 that is college classrooms 00:30:09.04\00:30:10.87 and we're blessed to have that. 00:30:10.91\00:30:13.27 These are some of the classrooms there 00:30:13.31\00:30:14.91 equipped for to train the young people. 00:30:14.94\00:30:17.81 We have the media classroom, you can see the shiny green 00:30:17.85\00:30:20.68 that's to stimulate their creative juices. 00:30:20.72\00:30:23.79 Yes. 00:30:23.82\00:30:25.25 Even the chairs have a little green. 00:30:25.29\00:30:26.76 Yes. Beautiful campus. Amen. 00:31:31.85\00:31:34.12 Beautiful school, and beautiful purpose 00:31:34.16\00:31:37.69 to spread the three angels' messages. 00:31:37.73\00:31:40.30 What a blessing. 00:31:40.33\00:31:41.66 Ivonne, I'm just thinking in your role there at Hartland, 00:31:41.70\00:31:45.17 you must interact with a lot of students 00:31:45.20\00:31:47.40 and hear their stories and their journeys. 00:31:47.44\00:31:50.11 And what is that like for you? 00:31:50.14\00:31:52.64 It's a blessing 'cause I'm a life biblical coach, 00:31:52.67\00:31:55.24 a health coach and a mental health coach. 00:31:55.28\00:31:57.28 So when we receive the students, 00:31:57.31\00:31:59.01 we don't only want like a package for them 00:31:59.05\00:32:02.02 to take to the world is a transformation experience. 00:32:02.05\00:32:05.05 We wanna walk the journey with them. 00:32:05.09\00:32:07.19 So it's just amazing to see 00:32:07.22\00:32:10.16 how the Lord bring the students. 00:32:10.19\00:32:12.29 And we wanna be witness of His work in their lives 00:32:12.33\00:32:15.76 because if their lives are transformed, 00:32:15.80\00:32:17.73 then they have a message to preach with power. 00:32:17.77\00:32:19.90 That's right. 00:32:19.93\00:32:21.27 And that's one of the reasons Klay is today with us, 00:32:21.30\00:32:25.31 because if we talk about Hartland 00:32:25.34\00:32:27.64 about these wonderful things that God is doing 00:32:27.68\00:32:30.21 the new curriculum, 00:32:30.25\00:32:31.58 but how does it look like in real life? 00:32:31.61\00:32:34.12 So we would like him to share his experience, 00:32:34.15\00:32:36.82 so people could see what is like. 00:32:36.85\00:32:38.65 Amen. Yeah. 00:32:38.69\00:32:40.22 Tell us about your testimony? 00:32:40.26\00:32:42.29 So I was born in the refugee camp, 00:32:42.32\00:32:45.29 which is in Thailand and when I was nine months old, 00:32:45.33\00:32:48.70 then we got the war broke out and we just need to run. 00:32:48.73\00:32:52.83 It was very risky. 00:32:52.87\00:32:54.20 My father was captured, 00:32:54.24\00:32:55.97 so it was very risky, but to make it short. 00:32:56.00\00:32:59.91 So my mom was able to rescue him 00:32:59.94\00:33:03.41 and then we tried to run back to Burma tents 00:33:03.45\00:33:06.51 so that it will be safe. 00:33:06.55\00:33:08.58 I remember when I was a kid, 00:33:08.62\00:33:10.49 I always dreamed to be the monk 00:33:10.52\00:33:12.32 because I was born in the Buddhist family, 00:33:12.35\00:33:15.52 you know, to have power, do miracle 00:33:15.56\00:33:17.73 and do those things good. 00:33:17.76\00:33:19.79 But I think God has a purpose in my life. 00:33:19.83\00:33:22.50 And I went through many things, 00:33:22.53\00:33:25.03 but I just want to let my father know it 00:33:25.07\00:33:27.17 just by any chance, if you watch this interview, 00:33:27.20\00:33:30.01 knowing that I love you. 00:33:30.04\00:33:33.07 When I was four years old, 00:33:33.11\00:33:34.44 I was sexually abused by my uncle. 00:33:34.48\00:33:38.45 And then my parents were working so hard 00:33:38.48\00:33:41.38 striving to live a daily life 00:33:41.42\00:33:43.35 because life in Burma is really poor. 00:33:43.39\00:33:45.35 Were they in the refugee camp there 00:33:45.39\00:33:46.76 or they were in the refugee camp in Thailand. 00:33:46.79\00:33:48.62 And then in Burma, you were no longer 00:33:48.66\00:33:49.99 in the refugee camp? 00:33:50.03\00:33:51.36 I was only nine months in the refugee camp. 00:33:51.39\00:33:54.00 And then we moved back to Burma 00:33:54.03\00:33:55.36 because of the war 00:33:55.40\00:33:56.73 and because of unsafety, that's right. 00:33:56.77\00:33:58.73 Yeah. 00:33:58.77\00:34:00.10 And at that time I was left with my sister 00:34:00.14\00:34:01.97 and I went through many physical abuse 00:34:02.00\00:34:04.14 and verbal abuse. 00:34:04.17\00:34:05.67 So then I realized that 00:34:05.71\00:34:09.81 because of the financial situations 00:34:09.84\00:34:12.05 and we all need to stop our education. 00:34:12.08\00:34:14.45 I was 10. My sisters were 12 and 14. 00:34:14.48\00:34:18.39 I don't know, it's a miracle I think, 00:34:18.42\00:34:19.85 I'm still studying at Hartland. 00:34:19.89\00:34:21.59 It's a miracle. 00:34:21.62\00:34:22.96 Amen. Yeah. 00:34:22.99\00:34:24.33 And my sisters and my mother were working in Thailand 00:34:24.36\00:34:27.03 and I was still with my father 00:34:27.06\00:34:29.16 and I realized that 00:34:29.20\00:34:30.93 many times my father didn't come back home. 00:34:30.97\00:34:33.74 So he were, I don't know, 00:34:33.77\00:34:35.44 one or two days a week he will come home 00:34:35.47\00:34:38.71 and I was only 10 years so I was staying alone 00:34:38.74\00:34:41.34 and many, many times two, three, four days,... 00:34:41.38\00:34:45.38 I will only eat white rice and you pour with the water 00:34:45.41\00:34:49.12 and sprinkle with the salt 00:34:49.15\00:34:50.99 and that's what I have 00:34:51.02\00:34:52.35 That's it? That's right. 00:34:52.39\00:34:53.72 But I'm so grateful with my neighbor. 00:34:53.76\00:34:55.52 I'm so sorry. Yeah. 00:34:55.56\00:34:57.53 It's an experience. 00:34:57.56\00:34:58.89 Yeah. Quick question. 00:34:58.93\00:35:00.56 So were you actually in school? 00:35:00.60\00:35:02.53 I was in the school at the time. 00:35:02.56\00:35:04.73 Wow. That's right. Yeah. 00:35:04.77\00:35:06.10 Even though your dad's not home... 00:35:06.13\00:35:07.47 That's right. Yes. Okay. 00:35:07.50\00:35:09.04 So I will go to school by myself 00:35:09.07\00:35:10.51 and come and cook for myself 00:35:10.54\00:35:13.01 even when I was very young. 00:35:13.04\00:35:14.38 Yes. So I was, yeah. 00:35:14.41\00:35:16.91 And praise God through those experiences. 00:35:16.95\00:35:18.45 When I was 14, my mom called me again 00:35:18.48\00:35:20.75 and she stayed in the refugee camp 00:35:20.78\00:35:23.05 and she said, it's very poor, 00:35:23.08\00:35:25.92 but we can promise you that you'll have an education. 00:35:25.95\00:35:29.46 And I was actually attending the Adventist high school, 00:35:29.49\00:35:32.26 I didn't know that. 00:35:32.29\00:35:33.80 Wow. They taught about the Bible. 00:35:33.83\00:35:36.83 I was real. 00:35:36.87\00:35:38.20 It was really interesting 00:35:38.23\00:35:39.57 because everything is new for me. 00:35:39.60\00:35:40.94 This is an Adventist high school 00:35:40.97\00:35:42.30 in the refugee camp? 00:35:42.34\00:35:43.67 In the refugee camp. Yes. 00:35:43.71\00:35:45.04 So there, after my second year of high school, 00:35:45.07\00:35:48.81 that evangelist came and shared about the love of the Father, 00:35:48.84\00:35:53.21 because I was, yeah, when I stayed with my father, 00:35:53.25\00:35:57.12 I felt rejected. 00:35:57.15\00:35:58.99 And I felt that I was not loved 00:35:59.02\00:36:00.49 because many times 00:36:00.52\00:36:01.86 he will bring the other children. 00:36:01.89\00:36:03.39 I realized that the reason he was upset 00:36:03.43\00:36:05.19 because he was with another woman 00:36:05.23\00:36:07.16 and stay in another village. 00:36:07.20\00:36:08.90 So there's a lot of brokenness in my heart and pain. 00:36:08.93\00:36:13.00 And in the evangelist series 00:36:13.03\00:36:15.94 and they shared about the love of God 00:36:15.97\00:36:18.97 and specifically the love of the Father, 00:36:19.01\00:36:23.48 which is, I don't want to believe it, 00:36:23.51\00:36:25.68 but that's what the Bible said. 00:36:25.71\00:36:27.28 And the word is coming, telling me that 00:36:27.32\00:36:29.98 the love of the Father, I really do love you. 00:36:30.02\00:36:33.22 I was really felt, I was rejected. 00:36:33.25\00:36:35.16 I was not wanted. 00:36:35.19\00:36:36.52 I was shaking when he called, 00:36:36.56\00:36:38.43 if you want to be baptized, I was 16 years old. 00:36:38.46\00:36:41.10 I was shaking and I thought, Lord is keep on telling me that 00:36:41.13\00:36:46.13 I love you no matter what. 00:36:46.17\00:36:47.50 Wow. 00:36:47.54\00:36:48.87 So that's when I become a Christian. 00:36:48.90\00:36:50.24 And then, yeah, 00:36:50.27\00:36:51.61 after I finished my high school, 00:36:51.64\00:36:53.74 then I went to the jungle war zone. 00:36:53.78\00:36:55.94 I prayed very hard that 00:36:55.98\00:36:57.65 the Lord will send me to the place where needed most. 00:36:57.68\00:37:00.68 And it was with the ministry. 00:37:00.72\00:37:02.15 I don't know if you heard about Leading to the Light. 00:37:02.18\00:37:06.32 Okay. Yeah. It's a ministry. 00:37:06.35\00:37:09.12 And I was there 00:37:09.16\00:37:10.99 and we drove for three hours with a car 00:37:11.03\00:37:15.60 and then six to seven hours on boat. 00:37:15.63\00:37:18.07 It was a remote place. 00:37:18.10\00:37:20.07 And then we slept off the whole night 00:37:20.10\00:37:21.60 and the morning they woke me up at 3, 00:37:21.64\00:37:23.51 we ate breakfast at 3:30, something like that. 00:37:23.54\00:37:26.41 I know it's not really happy. Yeah. 00:37:26.44\00:37:28.94 But we started our journey at 4 early in the morning. 00:37:28.98\00:37:33.52 No car, just walking. 00:37:33.55\00:37:35.25 And I walk and walk and walk and walk and walk and walk 00:37:35.28\00:37:37.45 and walk and walk until 9:30 at night up to the place. 00:37:37.49\00:37:42.39 So the whole day it's around 16 hours walk. 00:37:42.42\00:37:45.89 And my leg was painful for the whole week 00:37:45.93\00:37:48.60 because this is my first time. 00:37:48.63\00:37:49.96 Yeah. 00:37:50.00\00:37:51.33 And that's where actually I heard about Hartland. 00:37:51.37\00:37:53.47 The war broke out. 00:37:53.50\00:37:54.84 Our school nearly need to run from the war. 00:37:54.87\00:37:56.94 Yeah. 00:37:56.97\00:37:58.31 I need to sleep with one ears open 00:37:58.34\00:38:00.18 because many nights in the middle of the night, 00:38:00.21\00:38:02.14 you can hear boom! 00:38:02.18\00:38:03.78 The bombs? 00:38:03.81\00:38:05.15 Yeah, just right beside our school. 00:38:05.18\00:38:07.85 So I need to get my citizenship. 00:38:07.88\00:38:12.25 So then I can get my passport so that I can come to Hartland 00:38:12.29\00:38:15.62 after I look or read the catalog. 00:38:15.66\00:38:18.93 But it was a really risky, 00:38:18.96\00:38:20.40 we need to cross the enemy's road, 00:38:20.43\00:38:22.53 the Burmese soldiers road. 00:38:22.56\00:38:24.53 And we crossed in the nighttime. 00:38:24.57\00:38:27.77 No light, silent. 00:38:27.80\00:38:31.37 You just follow each person's steps carefully 00:38:31.41\00:38:34.94 because we had no idea where the bomb is. 00:38:34.98\00:38:37.21 Yeah, like landmines and stuff? 00:38:37.25\00:38:38.65 That's right. Yeah. That's right. 00:38:38.68\00:38:40.38 Wow. That's scary. Yeah, it is. 00:38:40.42\00:38:42.38 But it just remind me as a Christian, 00:38:42.42\00:38:44.35 if we really follow Jesus' step, every step 00:38:44.39\00:38:49.56 that can lead us to the safety. 00:38:49.59\00:38:51.46 So, and then, yeah, right after we crossed the road 00:38:51.49\00:38:55.70 and I felt like all the burdens are gone. 00:38:55.73\00:38:59.30 Amen. 00:38:59.33\00:39:00.67 And that's when I came to Hartland. 00:39:00.70\00:39:02.24 So you came to Hartland right after that? 00:39:02.27\00:39:05.24 That's at the end of the school year. 00:39:05.27\00:39:08.21 Okay. Wow. 00:39:08.24\00:39:09.94 And you're in your third year? This is my third year. 00:39:09.98\00:39:12.35 But you can tell them clearly that it was a hard time for him 00:39:12.38\00:39:15.65 when he arrived to Hartland, 00:39:15.68\00:39:17.19 because he got to get accustomed to use bathroom. 00:39:17.22\00:39:19.82 He got to get sleep in a soft bed. 00:39:19.85\00:39:22.02 It was hard for him 00:39:22.06\00:39:23.39 because they were sleeping on the floor. 00:39:23.43\00:39:24.93 There were many things that were difficult for him. 00:39:24.96\00:39:26.93 Yeah. But you survived, right? 00:39:26.96\00:39:29.63 Yes, I did. That's a big adjustment. 00:39:29.66\00:39:31.70 Yeah. That's a huge adjustment. Yes. 00:39:31.73\00:39:34.84 What an amazing story 00:39:34.87\00:39:36.20 of how God reached out. 00:39:36.24\00:39:41.14 And found you, loved you, brought you to Himself, 00:39:41.18\00:39:44.61 brought you to Hartland. 00:39:44.65\00:39:45.98 That's amazing. 00:39:46.01\00:39:47.35 So Dr. Karl and Ivonne, 00:39:47.38\00:39:49.25 how can students like Klay even come to Hartland? 00:39:49.28\00:39:52.42 How can, you know, 00:39:52.45\00:39:54.06 he probably wouldn't have the funds to go to Hartland. 00:39:54.09\00:39:56.66 So how does that take place? 00:39:56.69\00:39:58.56 Well, that takes place 00:39:58.59\00:39:59.93 through the missionary training fund. 00:39:59.96\00:40:02.03 So what we want, and this is a joint support. 00:40:02.06\00:40:06.23 It's not only about Hartland staff, 00:40:06.27\00:40:07.84 but everybody who donates to Hartland 00:40:07.87\00:40:10.97 becomes part of Hartland 00:40:11.01\00:40:12.47 because we wouldn't be able to do it by ourselves. 00:40:12.51\00:40:14.74 We have donors 00:40:14.78\00:40:16.14 that donate for the missionary training fund, 00:40:16.18\00:40:18.25 like in Klay's case. 00:40:18.28\00:40:19.78 So the idea is that they study at Hartland 00:40:19.81\00:40:23.22 and they also have to work, okay, to help pay his bill. 00:40:23.25\00:40:26.89 And it's part of the educational program. 00:40:26.92\00:40:29.99 But once he finishes, the idea is he goes debt-free. 00:40:30.03\00:40:34.00 So Hartland is a place that when they are accepted 00:40:34.03\00:40:37.00 by the missionary training fund, 00:40:37.03\00:40:38.90 they leave debt-free. 00:40:38.93\00:40:40.54 So they can go with no burden estimation. 00:40:40.57\00:40:43.10 So every money comes to Klay's hands now 00:40:43.14\00:40:47.58 is to enhance the work he's gonna do. 00:40:47.61\00:40:50.55 Actually, Klay's gonna go back again to the jungle. 00:40:50.58\00:40:53.95 Oh, wow. 00:40:53.98\00:40:55.32 To support that so maybe Klay can speak 00:40:55.35\00:40:57.05 a little bit about his plans now. 00:40:57.09\00:40:59.52 That's right. 00:40:59.55\00:41:01.02 So we are trying to develop 00:41:01.06\00:41:03.02 a good curriculum for the school. 00:41:03.06\00:41:04.96 And then I was so stressed out two months ago 00:41:04.99\00:41:09.70 because of the war broke out and the connection was cut. 00:41:09.73\00:41:14.34 I wasn't able to connect my friends in the jungle, 00:41:14.37\00:41:17.61 but two weeks ago, 00:41:17.64\00:41:18.97 they told me that by the grace of God, 00:41:19.01\00:41:20.84 the school can continue another year. 00:41:20.88\00:41:23.01 I was jump up and down. Yeah. 00:41:23.04\00:41:25.98 Praise the Lord, it's a miracle. 00:41:26.01\00:41:27.72 So it is my plan to go back and share the message of God 00:41:27.75\00:41:32.49 in a way that Hartland train me. 00:41:32.52\00:41:34.92 So give them a better education for the unprivileged students 00:41:34.96\00:41:39.29 back in the jungle. 00:41:39.33\00:41:40.66 Wow. 00:41:40.70\00:41:42.03 So this is actually what people support. 00:41:42.06\00:41:44.43 And we have high percentage of students 00:41:44.47\00:41:47.90 coming from the overseas, 00:41:47.94\00:41:49.74 coming from Africa, coming from Asia, 00:41:49.77\00:41:52.21 coming from Latin America, 00:41:52.24\00:41:54.04 coming from different parts so they can be trained. 00:41:54.08\00:41:57.08 They can go and this is one of the strength 00:41:57.11\00:42:01.85 I believe Hartland has. 00:42:01.88\00:42:03.39 And we see the Lord working through all 00:42:03.42\00:42:06.39 these different ways to help them. 00:42:06.42\00:42:08.46 For me, every time a student like Klay comes, 00:42:08.49\00:42:11.36 it's just amazing to see how he was in the jungle. 00:42:11.39\00:42:14.66 He have to walk 16 hours 00:42:14.70\00:42:16.63 if he wanted to get onions or garlic. 00:42:16.67\00:42:20.80 And there, somebody tells him about Hartland 00:42:20.84\00:42:25.17 and he applies. 00:42:25.21\00:42:27.98 And when he comes, we say the Lord brought you. 00:42:28.01\00:42:31.05 So that's the way we see the students. 00:42:31.08\00:42:33.11 When the students arrive at Hartland, 00:42:33.15\00:42:34.78 we see them as Godsent. 00:42:34.82\00:42:36.58 Amen.
