Yeah. 00:09:27.43\00:09:29.23 Which part of that do you like most, 00:09:29.26\00:09:31.03 because in agriculture, 00:09:31.07\00:09:32.40 you talked about the greenhouse 00:09:32.43\00:09:34.64 which is obviously plants on the inside 00:09:34.67\00:09:38.04 during the cold season 00:09:38.07\00:09:39.41 and then the cutting of the wood. 00:09:39.44\00:09:40.78 I'm going to ask you a kind of 00:09:40.81\00:09:42.14 a tongue-in-cheek question. 00:09:42.18\00:09:43.51 Which one do you like more, 00:09:43.55\00:09:44.88 the greenhouse or cutting wood? 00:09:44.91\00:09:47.92 Well, it depends on the weather. 00:09:47.95\00:09:51.39 If it is humid outside, 00:09:51.42\00:09:53.96 it's kind of very humid in the greenhouse. 00:09:53.99\00:09:56.56 So I like prefer, I prefer to work outside 00:09:56.59\00:09:58.53 and I really like splitting wood. 00:09:58.56\00:09:59.89 It's really amazing, 00:09:59.93\00:10:01.26 especially when there's amazing weather. 00:10:01.30\00:10:02.63 And in the cold, 00:10:02.66\00:10:04.00 I think I kind of want to be in the greenhouse 00:10:04.03\00:10:05.47 where I could spend the afternoon 00:10:05.50\00:10:07.07 in a warm environment. 00:10:07.10\00:10:08.44 Wow. 00:10:08.47\00:10:09.80 Mrs. Clark, I'm going to ask you 00:10:09.84\00:10:11.17 a question there, 00:10:11.21\00:10:12.54 because you've seen this school develop, 00:10:12.57\00:10:14.38 you have seen the academy grow. 00:10:14.41\00:10:16.78 Tell me what excites you, 00:10:16.81\00:10:19.18 because this started in 1988, here we are 2021. 00:10:19.21\00:10:24.02 What keeps you driven 00:10:24.05\00:10:26.65 to continue to keep this whole campus 00:10:26.69\00:10:29.99 going from year to year? 00:10:30.03\00:10:34.20 I think there's probably two primary things. 00:10:34.23\00:10:37.07 I think seeing how the Lord provides 00:10:37.10\00:10:39.97 and opens doors 00:10:40.00\00:10:41.60 and really works miracles sometime, 00:10:41.64\00:10:44.61 and also seeing students like David 00:10:44.64\00:10:47.94 who graduated and while he was here. 00:10:47.98\00:10:51.11 And then after that grew so much in the Lord 00:10:51.15\00:10:53.58 that has been able to really be a servant leader. 00:10:53.62\00:10:59.62 And our goal is to help develop in students 00:10:59.65\00:11:03.39 that kind of mentality, 00:11:03.43\00:11:05.39 that kind of relationship with the Lord 00:11:05.43\00:11:07.76 that they'll go wherever He wants them to go 00:11:07.80\00:11:09.73 and do whatever He wants them to do. 00:11:09.76\00:11:11.57 And as we see students doing that, 00:11:11.60\00:11:15.84 it just gives me new renewed energy 00:11:15.87\00:11:19.34 and desire to keep on. 00:11:19.37\00:11:21.58 I'm sure, 00:11:21.61\00:11:22.94 and I'm thinking about this in the real sixth sense. 00:11:22.98\00:11:25.71 There is probably some heart 00:11:25.75\00:11:28.75 connected to the development of the student of the school. 00:11:28.78\00:11:31.69 I guess at graduation, 00:11:31.72\00:11:33.59 maybe sometimes you shed a tear 00:11:33.62\00:11:35.69 when you see what God has done through your life 00:11:35.72\00:11:37.53 and your husband's life. 00:11:37.56\00:11:39.03 Has that ever been the experience? 00:11:39.06\00:11:41.76 Yes, it has. 00:11:41.80\00:11:43.57 And, to see how many students 00:11:43.60\00:11:46.20 does the campus hold relatively? 00:11:46.23\00:11:48.37 We have had as many as 54 00:11:54.84\00:11:58.95 in the academy that was with, 00:11:58.98\00:12:04.05 you know, several staff children 00:12:04.09\00:12:05.59 who lived at home. 00:12:05.62\00:12:06.96 Yes. 00:12:06.99\00:12:08.32 The college we've had as many as 75. 00:12:08.36\00:12:10.93 So we could have 00:12:10.96\00:12:14.30 around a hundred students at this point. 00:12:14.33\00:12:16.77 And as we build more college dorms, 00:12:16.80\00:12:18.73 we'll have more space. 00:12:18.77\00:12:20.10 Wow. That's good. 00:12:20.14\00:12:21.47 I mean, that's a wonderful campus. 00:12:21.50\00:12:22.84 Though it's intended to be small. 00:12:22.87\00:12:25.57 We really built for 20 in each dorm 00:12:25.61\00:12:29.94 because we want to be able to impact 00:12:29.98\00:12:32.71 students for Christ. 00:12:32.75\00:12:34.08 And if we get too many students at teenagers, 00:12:34.12\00:12:37.42 it's harder to do that. 00:12:37.45\00:12:38.99 So we never want the academy to be very large. 00:12:39.02\00:12:43.32 That's a good point because the more, 00:12:43.36\00:12:45.46 some people say the more the merrier, 00:12:45.49\00:12:46.96 but the more the students, the harder it is 00:12:47.00\00:12:48.53 to concentrate 00:12:48.56\00:12:49.90 on personal development of the students. 00:12:49.93\00:12:51.27 It's very true. It's very difficult. 00:12:51.30\00:12:53.64 So talk about the interpersonal relationships. 00:12:53.67\00:12:55.64 Let me go ahead and ask Rafael and Emmily 00:12:55.67\00:12:58.67 because they are not only in the academy, 00:12:58.71\00:13:00.71 but you're building relationships. 00:13:00.74\00:13:02.61 I know when I look back at my schooling, 00:13:02.64\00:13:04.11 I can remember when I graduated. 00:13:04.15\00:13:06.48 We have some friends that are still friends 00:13:06.51\00:13:07.92 to this very day. 00:13:07.95\00:13:09.82 Talk about your interpersonal relationships 00:13:09.85\00:13:11.79 with other students? 00:13:11.82\00:13:14.32 Go ahead, Rafael. Okay. 00:13:14.36\00:13:16.96 So when I came here, 00:13:16.99\00:13:18.59 I noticed how all the students were very friendly. 00:13:18.63\00:13:20.70 Like they just kinda, you know, 00:13:20.73\00:13:23.40 brought you into their groups and started the conversation. 00:13:23.43\00:13:26.23 You know, they didn't let you just sit there by yourself 00:13:26.27\00:13:28.27 that they, you know, they involve you 00:13:28.30\00:13:30.51 and you tend to have a lot of, 00:13:30.54\00:13:33.48 lot more like 00:13:33.51\00:13:35.71 better relationships with people like that. 00:13:35.74\00:13:37.31 Because since the staff and the environment, 00:13:37.35\00:13:40.22 they encourage being nice and kind to other people, 00:13:40.25\00:13:45.75 you know, the students tend to go out of their way 00:13:45.79\00:13:47.62 to just try to involve someone 00:13:47.66\00:13:49.19 and know the person 00:13:49.22\00:13:50.96 and get to meet them and actually become friends. 00:13:50.99\00:13:53.33 And those friends, I think those, 00:13:53.36\00:13:56.30 you know, they'll last for a lot longer than just, 00:13:56.33\00:13:59.53 you know, just so happen or whatever, 00:13:59.57\00:14:01.50 you know, it, I don't know, 00:14:01.54\00:14:03.20 it's just a stronger relationship 00:14:03.24\00:14:04.57 because it's based on being kind to one another 00:14:04.61\00:14:07.24 and very friendly environment overall. 00:14:07.28\00:14:10.75 Amen. Emmily, what about you? 00:14:10.78\00:14:12.71 Cause I know that... 00:14:12.75\00:14:14.08 I know that prayer is very much a part 00:14:14.12\00:14:16.92 of a Christian campus. 00:14:16.95\00:14:18.69 Talk about the friendships you're developing 00:14:18.72\00:14:21.62 as you're looking forward to continuing 00:14:21.66\00:14:24.09 into your final year coming up pretty soon here? 00:14:24.13\00:14:28.76 Yeah, so the people here are so kind and so friendly. 00:14:28.80\00:14:35.57 I remember that, you know, when I first came here, 00:14:35.60\00:14:38.47 I was, it was a big shock 00:14:38.51\00:14:40.24 and, you know, I was kinda quiet. 00:14:40.28\00:14:42.81 I didn't really know what to do, 00:14:42.84\00:14:45.18 but the people here were so welcoming 00:14:45.21\00:14:47.95 and I just, I felt very welcome here, 00:14:47.98\00:14:52.05 and I'm so thankful for the godly students here. 00:14:52.09\00:14:56.66 I remember some groups of girls would go on prayer walks, 00:14:56.69\00:15:02.43 they would do early morning Bible studies 00:15:02.46\00:15:05.67 and that really made an impact on my life. 00:15:05.70\00:15:08.97 They had a big influence on me and yeah, it's really nice. 00:15:09.00\00:15:13.94 You meet friends here that 00:15:13.98\00:15:15.98 will help you to grow stronger in Christ. 00:15:16.01\00:15:18.95 Wow. 00:15:18.98\00:15:20.32 Now I know that, that's a beautiful environment. 00:15:20.35\00:15:22.82 What would you say? 00:15:22.85\00:15:24.19 And I'll give you any one of you an opportunity 00:15:24.22\00:15:26.35 to speak to this question. 00:15:26.39\00:15:27.92 What would you say your greatest challenge is 00:15:27.96\00:15:30.73 as a student at Ouachita Hills? 00:15:30.76\00:15:32.86 'Cause we all have 00:15:32.89\00:15:34.23 little challenges here and there. 00:15:34.26\00:15:35.60 Maybe it could be a curriculum challenge 00:15:35.63\00:15:37.57 or maybe it could be environmental challenge. 00:15:37.60\00:15:40.27 You'll say, well, I want to become stronger 00:15:40.30\00:15:41.80 in this area 00:15:41.84\00:15:43.17 or I'd like to know that a little better. 00:15:43.20\00:15:45.24 What would you say your challenge might be? 00:15:45.27\00:15:47.44 Let's start with curriculum. 00:15:47.48\00:15:48.91 What's your greatest challenge curriculum wise? 00:15:48.94\00:15:53.98 With academics, 00:15:54.02\00:15:57.45 learning the concepts here 00:15:57.49\00:15:59.79 is, you know, 00:15:59.82\00:16:01.29 you have to learn time management 00:16:01.32\00:16:04.19 and something... 00:16:04.23\00:16:06.53 Yeah, that's so, so crucial with the busy schedule. 00:16:06.56\00:16:11.03 So I would definitely say 00:16:11.07\00:16:12.87 learning to use your time wisely, 00:16:12.90\00:16:16.37 the time you have for homework learning, 00:16:16.40\00:16:18.91 how, which time to do which subject. 00:16:18.94\00:16:21.74 That's really important. 00:16:21.78\00:16:24.25 Okay. Rafael, what about you? 00:16:24.28\00:16:28.55 I would say, yeah, similar to that too is, 00:16:28.58\00:16:30.79 you know, just the self-government 00:16:30.82\00:16:32.62 and anything you do, like even your free time, 00:16:32.65\00:16:35.66 she kind of touched on that, you know, 00:16:35.69\00:16:37.79 you have your free time 00:16:37.83\00:16:39.16 and you could either use that to go do an activity 00:16:39.19\00:16:40.96 that you want for recreation, or you can do homework 00:16:41.00\00:16:44.13 and, you know, finish it. 00:16:44.17\00:16:45.50 And even when you decide to go do your homework, 00:16:45.53\00:16:48.17 you could either divide it into time to, you know, 00:16:48.20\00:16:52.11 I'll do, in the first 30 minutes, 00:16:52.14\00:16:53.78 I'll do English and then the next 00:16:53.81\00:16:56.34 and you know, and so on. 00:16:56.38\00:16:57.81 But it's like, they encourage you in the time 00:16:57.85\00:17:01.78 where you're supposed to go somewhere to, 00:17:01.82\00:17:03.79 or they already have your time set out. 00:17:03.82\00:17:05.25 And then they give you freedom of like the free time for you 00:17:05.29\00:17:09.22 to be able to divide that and practice that in your life. 00:17:09.26\00:17:11.59 And that's something that is also like, 00:17:11.63\00:17:13.63 you know, that's the challenge 00:17:13.66\00:17:15.23 because, you know, usually homes 00:17:15.26\00:17:18.17 are not too much like that schedule anymore. 00:17:18.20\00:17:21.20 And when you come here, it's kinda prepares you for, 00:17:21.24\00:17:24.54 you know, when you go out into the real world, 00:17:24.57\00:17:26.47 the schedule is not tuning in all the time. 00:17:26.51\00:17:28.84 That's true. 00:17:28.88\00:17:30.21 I like the word you used the phrase self government. 00:17:30.25\00:17:33.01 It's a really good phrase because right academy, 00:17:33.05\00:17:36.22 when you enter that academy 00:17:36.25\00:17:37.59 is another word for high school, 00:17:37.62\00:17:39.32 you use the word high school in the secular environment, 00:17:39.35\00:17:42.62 but it surely says to you, okay, we're getting you ready 00:17:42.66\00:17:45.43 to go to the next step. 00:17:45.46\00:17:47.20 So if you're going to be a responsible student, 00:17:47.23\00:17:49.73 this is the time as Emmily pointed out 00:17:49.76\00:17:52.23 to set up your day 00:17:52.27\00:17:53.67 so that you don't just slide from one thing to the next 00:17:53.70\00:17:56.44 and say, what should I do next? 00:17:56.47\00:17:58.27 But I like that. 00:17:58.31\00:17:59.64 I can almost imagine Emmily 00:17:59.67\00:18:01.01 that you probably have something in your room 00:18:01.04\00:18:02.58 where you say, okay, seven to eight, 00:18:02.61\00:18:04.31 eight to nine, nine to ten. 00:18:04.35\00:18:06.18 You kind of norm, or maybe right now, 00:18:06.21\00:18:08.12 it's just so ingrained in your mind 00:18:08.15\00:18:10.42 that you don't have to write those things down any longer, 00:18:10.45\00:18:13.05 but it's a process. 00:18:13.09\00:18:14.52 But how long did it take you to get 00:18:14.56\00:18:15.89 into the hang of getting these schedules together 00:18:15.92\00:18:20.06 when you came to Ouachita Hills? 00:18:20.10\00:18:24.63 It wasn't too bad. 00:18:24.67\00:18:27.97 Probably within the first few weeks. 00:18:28.00\00:18:32.27 Okay. 00:18:32.31\00:18:33.64 Let me ask another question to Mrs. Harriet. 00:18:33.68\00:18:36.24 When we talk about what makes 00:18:36.28\00:18:38.55 Ouachita Hills schooled different? 00:18:38.58\00:18:41.75 Because a lot of students might say, 00:18:41.78\00:18:43.28 and any one of the students could answer this too, 00:18:43.32\00:18:44.85 because it might be 00:18:44.89\00:18:46.22 from their experiential perspective, 00:18:46.25\00:18:47.82 what makes it different? 00:18:47.86\00:18:49.19 And the answer would kind of encourage 00:18:49.22\00:18:50.79 somebody looking for a school to say, 00:18:50.83\00:18:53.70 you know, I need to go there. 00:18:53.73\00:18:55.06 You talked about the size. I love that already. 00:18:55.10\00:18:57.43 It makes it easy to concentrate 00:18:57.47\00:18:58.80 on more of a relational aspect 00:18:58.83\00:19:01.40 than having any student, 00:19:01.44\00:19:02.90 whether they're outgoing 00:19:02.94\00:19:04.44 or maybe they could be introvert or extrovert. 00:19:04.47\00:19:07.31 They don't feel that they're overlooked, 00:19:07.34\00:19:09.01 but in recommending this school to someone, 00:19:09.04\00:19:13.15 what would you say to a student 00:19:13.18\00:19:14.52 that's listening to the program? 00:19:14.55\00:19:15.88 I think that it's a special place 00:19:20.99\00:19:24.53 of nurturing of students 00:19:24.56\00:19:27.43 who want to grow in the Lord 00:19:27.46\00:19:28.96 while they develop their academic skills. 00:19:29.00\00:19:32.47 And while they develop vocational skills 00:19:32.50\00:19:34.94 and social skills. 00:19:34.97\00:19:37.21 We have great staff, student relations 00:19:37.24\00:19:41.31 and an environment out there in the country 00:19:41.34\00:19:46.72 and nature in touch with nature's got, 00:19:46.75\00:19:49.65 that brings students away from some of the distractions 00:19:49.68\00:19:54.02 that are in areas where in larger, 00:19:54.06\00:19:58.39 you know, communities in cities. 00:19:58.43\00:20:03.57 And administratively 00:20:03.60\00:20:07.67 everything that is planned. 00:20:07.70\00:20:12.47 We've tried to filter that 00:20:12.51\00:20:14.84 through the Lord's council on education. 00:20:14.88\00:20:16.71 Amen. 00:20:16.75\00:20:18.08 So that students have an advantage 00:20:18.11\00:20:22.58 in getting to know Jesus better 00:20:22.62\00:20:25.15 and I believe prepare better for service 00:20:25.19\00:20:31.06 when they graduate. 00:20:31.09\00:20:32.43 Amen. I like that. 00:20:32.46\00:20:33.80 And in addition, we have really strong academics. 00:20:33.83\00:20:37.00 We have a great music program. We have a missions program. 00:20:37.03\00:20:40.50 I mean, there are a lot of little factors 00:20:40.54\00:20:45.61 that feed in, 00:20:45.64\00:20:48.14 but I believe the filtering through the Lord's counsel 00:20:48.18\00:20:54.02 is what impacts the program the most, 00:20:54.05\00:20:58.92 that makes it of greater benefit to students. 00:20:58.95\00:21:02.66 Wonderful. 00:21:02.69\00:21:04.03 Let me go to Emmily real quickly here. 00:21:04.06\00:21:05.86 Emmily, if you talk about a conversion 00:21:05.89\00:21:10.70 that you might've experienced at the Ouachita Hills. 00:21:10.73\00:21:14.60 At what point did you say, you know what? 00:21:14.64\00:21:17.94 Now I see, and I'm glad that I came to this school. 00:21:17.97\00:21:22.24 Did you have that light coming on moment 00:21:22.28\00:21:24.98 in your time at Ouachita Hills? 00:21:25.01\00:21:28.55 Yeah, definitely. 00:21:28.58\00:21:30.22 The first semester at first, 00:21:30.25\00:21:31.79 it was kind of, you know, kind of rough, 00:21:31.82\00:21:34.52 and I think it was mainly 00:21:34.56\00:21:37.19 because of the mindset that I had. 00:21:37.23\00:21:39.76 So once I, you know, being here 00:21:39.79\00:21:43.20 and just being in this environment, 00:21:43.23\00:21:45.73 once I learned that, learned to, 00:21:45.77\00:21:48.37 you know, change the way I think about things and have, 00:21:48.40\00:21:50.94 you know, a positive attitude, 00:21:50.97\00:21:53.31 that's when things definitely started changing 00:21:53.34\00:21:55.84 and I learned to appreciate this place. 00:21:55.88\00:21:58.31 Okay. Praise the Lord for that. 00:21:58.35\00:21:59.91 What about you, Rafael? 00:21:59.95\00:22:01.65 Well, I know, this is your first year there. 00:22:01.68\00:22:05.45 Tell us about that, where you said, okay. 00:22:05.49\00:22:07.59 I'm so glad I'm here. 00:22:07.62\00:22:08.96 I know you talked about the nice people, 00:22:08.99\00:22:10.99 the great environment, 00:22:11.03\00:22:12.36 but personally in your time with the Lord, 00:22:12.39\00:22:15.70 how with, how have you come 00:22:15.73\00:22:17.07 to appreciate being at Ouachita Hills? 00:22:17.10\00:22:18.77 So I live fairly close to this area 00:22:21.80\00:22:26.68 for quite some years, 00:22:26.71\00:22:28.08 you know, I've been involved too. 00:22:28.11\00:22:29.58 You've seen it from the outside and wanting, 00:22:29.61\00:22:32.55 I just seen already the spiritual environment 00:22:32.58\00:22:34.82 from the outside. 00:22:34.85\00:22:36.18 I want it to be a part of the environment, 00:22:36.22\00:22:38.35 you know, I want to be inside of it. 00:22:38.39\00:22:40.19 So, where I could actually grow my relationship. 00:22:40.22\00:22:42.06 And I knew that I, 00:22:42.09\00:22:43.73 they were already helping me out 00:22:43.76\00:22:45.09 with my relationship 00:22:45.13\00:22:46.46 from where I was outside of the school. 00:22:46.49\00:22:48.66 And I wanted to come here 00:22:48.70\00:22:50.03 and, you know, be a part of the school. 00:22:50.07\00:22:51.97 And I just felt really impressed, 00:22:52.00\00:22:54.87 you know, that would actually help my, 00:22:54.90\00:22:57.04 enhance my spiritual relationship 00:22:57.07\00:22:58.57 with God. 00:22:58.61\00:22:59.94 I love that. 00:22:59.97\00:23:01.31 What I hear you saying is, 00:23:01.34\00:23:02.68 you were looking at Ouachita Hills over the wall 00:23:02.71\00:23:04.91 and you were seeing it in the community 00:23:04.95\00:23:07.05 and you were just probably counting, man, 00:23:07.08\00:23:09.12 when am I going to get to go to that school? 00:23:09.15\00:23:11.05 Because if it's changing my life from the outside, 00:23:11.09\00:23:14.36 what is it going to do to my life 00:23:14.39\00:23:15.72 when I got on the inside? 00:23:15.76\00:23:17.09 Emmily, tell students listening to the program, 00:23:17.13\00:23:20.33 what would you say to that young man, 00:23:20.36\00:23:21.86 that young lady, 00:23:21.90\00:23:23.23 if they're thinking about coming to Ouachita Hills, 00:23:23.26\00:23:25.80 or they're even considering school in general? 00:23:25.83\00:23:28.60 What would you say to that person to say, 00:23:28.64\00:23:30.57 this is the place that you need to be? 00:23:30.61\00:23:34.18 Yeah. 00:23:34.21\00:23:36.18 Well, I would definitely recommend 00:23:36.21\00:23:38.88 this school, 00:23:38.91\00:23:40.25 just continue to pray about, 00:23:40.28\00:23:42.48 you know, where the Lord is leading, 00:23:42.52\00:23:44.39 but this school, as you know, really impacted me personally. 00:23:44.42\00:23:48.99 And I'm sure it can impact everyone out there 00:23:49.02\00:23:53.09 and just try it out. 00:23:53.13\00:23:55.10 Amen, I like that. And what about you, Rafael? 00:23:55.13\00:24:00.14 I think for you, if you want to grow 00:24:00.17\00:24:03.47 closer to God in a school, 00:24:03.51\00:24:05.14 and I think that this would be the school that would really, 00:24:05.17\00:24:07.74 you know, encourage and focus on your relationship with God 00:24:07.78\00:24:10.85 above, like all everything else. 00:24:10.88\00:24:12.78 And it's also, 00:24:12.81\00:24:14.48 if you want to be prepared for life 00:24:14.52\00:24:17.05 and with a relationship with God 00:24:17.09\00:24:18.85 throughout the whole, the whole time. 00:24:18.89\00:24:20.89 I also think that this would be an awesome place for you. 00:24:20.92\00:24:23.12 It's helped me a lot in the same. 00:24:23.16\00:24:24.69 Thank you, Rafael. Thank you, Emmily. 00:24:24.73\00:24:26.56 Mrs. Clark, just give us an idea 00:24:26.59\00:24:28.83 of what the cost is to be in the academy. 00:24:28.86\00:24:32.60 What the tuition costs are, just briefly? 00:24:32.63\00:24:36.40 Tuition, room and board comes to a little over 10,000 a year. 00:24:36.44\00:24:42.01 Okay.
