And addiction is a powerful word. 00:03:28.74\00:03:31.91 It's not Scott's word. 00:03:31.94\00:03:34.24 You are going to see in this program, 00:03:34.28\00:03:37.98 there are so many studies. 00:03:38.01\00:03:39.85 What I appreciate about Scott is 00:03:39.88\00:03:41.75 he's been doing this for many years. 00:03:41.78\00:03:43.35 He stays current, 00:03:43.39\00:03:45.35 but there are many industry studies. 00:03:45.39\00:03:48.06 There are many psychiatrist 00:03:48.09\00:03:50.36 and different groups, medical groups. 00:03:50.39\00:03:53.26 And even within the industry itself 00:03:53.29\00:03:55.93 who are sounding an alarm saying, 00:03:55.96\00:03:58.10 boy, we didn't expect this. 00:03:58.13\00:04:00.14 There is not just for the children. 00:04:00.17\00:04:02.90 There is an addictive element in it 00:04:02.94\00:04:05.47 that absolutely influences us too. 00:04:05.51\00:04:09.41 Before we jump into this, 00:04:09.44\00:04:11.58 Scott, I know how much you love music. 00:04:11.61\00:04:15.22 We know how much you love music. 00:04:15.25\00:04:17.95 And today we have with us Pat Koh, 00:04:17.99\00:04:21.22 and she's on the piano. 00:04:21.26\00:04:22.59 She will be playing "Seek Ye First." 00:04:22.62\00:04:25.46 Thank you, Pat. That was beautiful. 00:07:43.89\00:07:45.56 Well, if you're joining us just a little late today, 00:07:45.59\00:07:48.26 our special guest is Scott Ritsema, 00:07:48.30\00:07:52.13 who is the founder and director 00:07:52.17\00:07:53.87 of Belt of Truth Ministries. 00:07:53.90\00:07:56.04 But we've heard of you, Scott, for so long, 00:07:56.07\00:07:58.61 and you've actually been here a couple of times before, 00:07:58.64\00:08:01.48 but we've heard of your teachings. 00:08:01.51\00:08:04.85 So we were so excited 00:08:04.88\00:08:06.48 to have you come do this new series. 00:08:06.51\00:08:08.95 Now, before we get into the series 00:08:08.98\00:08:11.55 and talk about that, 00:08:11.59\00:08:12.95 let's let our audience get to know you. 00:08:12.99\00:08:15.06 Tell us a little bit about growing up. 00:08:15.09\00:08:17.23 Was it a Christian home? 00:08:17.26\00:08:18.69 What kind of kid were you? 00:08:18.73\00:08:20.10 I was blessed to grow up to know the Lord Jesus. 00:08:20.13\00:08:22.73 I grew up in a Christian home and went to Christian school. 00:08:22.76\00:08:26.27 And so I never remember life without knowing of the Lord God 00:08:26.30\00:08:30.47 and the creator God. 00:08:30.51\00:08:31.84 Was it a Seventh-day Adventist Christian home? 00:08:31.87\00:08:33.31 I grew up in a Christian reformed home. 00:08:33.34\00:08:35.44 So it was Bible believing 00:08:35.48\00:08:37.01 and came to a knowledge of the seventh day Sabbath 00:08:37.05\00:08:39.18 later in life, 00:08:39.21\00:08:40.55 which was just an added blessing 00:08:40.58\00:08:42.18 as I grew into a knowledge of the truths for our time 00:08:42.22\00:08:45.59 in these last days. 00:08:45.62\00:08:46.96 But, you know, I remember as a kid being told that, 00:08:46.99\00:08:49.36 see the clouds up in the sky, 00:08:49.39\00:08:50.73 you know, Jesus is gonna come on the clouds of heaven. 00:08:50.76\00:08:53.09 So I guess I've always been an Adventist, 00:08:53.13\00:08:55.63 believing in the advent. 00:08:55.66\00:08:57.00 Okay. 00:08:57.03\00:08:58.37 So what kind of a kid were you? 00:08:58.40\00:09:00.57 Well, early on, it was, all was good 00:09:00.60\00:09:03.77 and teachers were happy 00:09:03.81\00:09:06.17 with my participation in school. 00:09:06.21\00:09:07.68 And so on teenage hood 00:09:07.71\00:09:09.04 is where I got in the wrong crowd 00:09:09.08\00:09:11.11 and got involved 00:09:11.15\00:09:12.48 with the wrong types of activities 00:09:12.51\00:09:13.85 and really went down the road of rebellion 00:09:13.88\00:09:15.95 against God's will in my life. 00:09:15.98\00:09:17.92 And ironically, 00:09:17.95\00:09:19.29 my theology was all twisted out. 00:09:19.32\00:09:20.89 I thought that I was still saved 00:09:20.92\00:09:22.69 and a Christian, even though 00:09:22.72\00:09:24.39 I was just totally living in rebellion against God 00:09:24.43\00:09:26.93 and knowing that I was open rebellion 00:09:26.96\00:09:29.63 and the music I was listening to. 00:09:29.66\00:09:31.20 And so, I really needed to have a repentance 00:09:31.23\00:09:36.91 from that worldliness 00:09:36.94\00:09:38.27 that I had gotten into playing in a rock band 00:09:38.31\00:09:42.14 and watching whatever movies I wanted to. 00:09:42.18\00:09:44.41 So, you know, a lot of it was media. 00:09:44.45\00:09:46.21 I think a lot of people's story 00:09:46.25\00:09:47.58 when they get into worldliness 00:09:47.62\00:09:49.08 is they need to repent of their media use 00:09:49.12\00:09:52.89 to really come into a relationship 00:09:52.92\00:09:55.36 with Jesus Christ 00:09:55.39\00:09:56.73 and I wasn't during, during those years. 00:09:56.76\00:09:58.49 So it was a dark period in terms of the spiritual life 00:09:58.53\00:10:03.16 and praise God, He can bring you out of, 00:10:03.20\00:10:06.43 even several years of that, that I was in. 00:10:06.47\00:10:09.50 And He plucked me out of the world. 00:10:09.54\00:10:11.27 Yeah. 00:10:11.31\00:10:12.64 I always tell people when I rebelled, 00:10:12.67\00:10:14.51 He chased me down. 00:10:14.54\00:10:15.88 Exactly. 00:10:15.91\00:10:17.25 So when did you really grow into that personal connection 00:10:17.28\00:10:21.85 that you have with the Lord. 00:10:21.88\00:10:23.28 Now, when did you become a Seventh-day Adventist? 00:10:23.32\00:10:25.62 How did you become 00:10:25.65\00:10:26.99 a Seventh-day Adventist Christian? 00:10:27.02\00:10:28.96 Those two questions really do connect, 00:10:28.99\00:10:30.73 that personal relationship with Jesus Christ 00:10:30.76\00:10:32.53 that deep love of God 00:10:32.56\00:10:34.13 and wanting to serve Him 00:10:34.16\00:10:35.56 with all my heart and with all my life came 00:10:35.60\00:10:37.43 at the same time that I was coming into 00:10:37.47\00:10:39.43 the Seventh-day Adventist movement, 00:10:39.47\00:10:40.80 because the picture of God's love 00:10:40.84\00:10:43.30 that was portrayed and given 00:10:43.34\00:10:45.14 as I understood 00:10:45.17\00:10:46.51 what's going on between Christ and Satan 00:10:46.54\00:10:48.14 and why is there evil and pain and suffering 00:10:48.18\00:10:50.11 in the universe? 00:10:50.15\00:10:51.48 And is God all powerful and all loving at the same time 00:10:51.51\00:10:55.82 and helping to sort out those questions 00:10:55.85\00:10:58.05 of why is there pain and suffering? 00:10:58.09\00:11:00.39 And God has a solution 00:11:00.42\00:11:02.16 and how the enemy is the one responsible 00:11:02.19\00:11:04.36 for the pain that exists, 00:11:04.39\00:11:07.33 and then understanding the nature of the second death 00:11:07.36\00:11:12.47 and hell fire 00:11:12.50\00:11:13.84 and what that really is about and what it's not about. 00:11:13.87\00:11:16.00 And so a picture of God's love really was being revealed to me 00:11:16.04\00:11:19.44 as I came to understand Bible truth, 00:11:19.47\00:11:21.54 as I understand it today. 00:11:21.58\00:11:23.11 And that just makes you love God more. 00:11:23.14\00:11:24.48 Amen. 00:11:24.51\00:11:25.85 So when you went to college, your major was, 00:11:25.88\00:11:28.48 you had a double major 00:11:28.52\00:11:29.85 of history and political science? 00:11:29.88\00:11:31.69 History was the degree in undergrad. 00:11:31.72\00:11:34.29 And then in my postgraduate, my master's, 00:11:34.32\00:11:36.56 it was history, political science, economics. 00:11:36.59\00:11:38.59 And economics. Yeah. 00:11:38.63\00:11:40.00 So I know you're married three kids. 00:11:40.03\00:11:42.40 Tell us a little bit about the family? 00:11:42.43\00:11:43.77 Oh, that's the fun part. And then your early career? 00:11:43.80\00:11:45.53 Yeah. 00:11:45.57\00:11:46.90 My wife and I have three kids, two boys and a girl. 00:11:46.94\00:11:50.21 How old are they? 00:11:50.24\00:11:51.57 They are nine and seven and three. 00:11:51.61\00:11:52.94 Okay. 00:11:52.97\00:11:54.31 And, so we love being outdoors together, gardening. 00:11:54.34\00:11:56.75 We live in the country, we're so blessed 00:11:56.78\00:11:58.11 to homeschool our kids 00:11:58.15\00:11:59.48 and just be able to be together a lot. 00:11:59.51\00:12:01.12 And they say hello by the way, to you, 00:12:01.15\00:12:04.22 they missed seeing you this time. 00:12:04.25\00:12:05.59 But early career I was a teacher. 00:12:05.62\00:12:09.16 I taught high school, 00:12:09.19\00:12:10.53 I taught history, government economics. 00:12:10.56\00:12:12.59 And that was a great joy. 00:12:12.63\00:12:14.66 I still, am interested in history 00:12:14.70\00:12:16.46 and things that pertain to current events 00:12:16.50\00:12:19.27 and political science issues. 00:12:19.30\00:12:20.77 So got into teaching Bible 00:12:20.80\00:12:24.21 later on in my teaching career. 00:12:24.24\00:12:25.94 And that was around the time 00:12:25.97\00:12:27.31 that I was coming to a knowledge of the truth 00:12:27.34\00:12:28.68 as I understand it today, the truth as it is in Jesus. 00:12:28.71\00:12:31.48 So that was a great joy to be able to teach Bible 00:12:31.51\00:12:34.92 at an academy level. 00:12:34.95\00:12:36.28 And so that was the, I guess what you'd say, 00:12:36.32\00:12:37.89 the early career. 00:12:37.92\00:12:39.25 I love the story that you shared 00:12:39.29\00:12:40.62 during the production of the series 00:12:40.66\00:12:42.16 when you were telling about being in Israel. 00:12:42.19\00:12:44.46 Tell that real quick about the children being told. 00:12:44.49\00:12:47.16 Okay. 00:12:47.20\00:12:48.53 At the very last minute, no media, tell us that? 00:12:48.56\00:12:49.96 Yeah. Okay. 00:12:50.00\00:12:51.33 So the music teacher takes the students on a music tour, 00:12:51.37\00:12:54.30 a mission trip. 00:12:54.34\00:12:55.67 He's there planning the event 00:12:55.70\00:12:57.04 and it's gonna be over spring break. 00:12:57.07\00:12:58.41 And then another week, and well Scott, 00:12:58.44\00:13:00.11 would you like to come? 00:13:00.14\00:13:01.48 You're the Bible teacher. You can do chaplain duties. 00:13:01.51\00:13:03.04 Would I like to come, it was Ireland. 00:13:03.08\00:13:04.41 Wow. 00:13:04.45\00:13:05.78 My wife's always wanted to see Ireland. 00:13:05.81\00:13:07.15 Can she come? 00:13:07.18\00:13:08.52 And so we'll have an experience serving God together 00:13:08.55\00:13:09.88 in that beautiful country. 00:13:09.92\00:13:11.25 Well, the music teacher broke it to the students 00:13:11.29\00:13:13.36 about a week before 00:13:13.39\00:13:14.89 you're not bringing your phones. 00:13:14.92\00:13:16.29 And they had almost a revolt, 00:13:16.32\00:13:18.29 because you know, 00:13:18.33\00:13:19.66 we're so addicted to these devices. 00:13:19.69\00:13:21.03 These young people could not live. 00:13:21.06\00:13:22.40 They could not live without their phones. 00:13:22.43\00:13:23.93 How we're gonna call our parents. 00:13:23.97\00:13:25.30 Well, we'll have a device, we'll have one phone. 00:13:25.33\00:13:26.90 Everybody can take turns, call their parents on it. 00:13:26.94\00:13:29.20 And so anyway, they went on the trip. 00:13:29.24\00:13:31.34 We had a fabulous time, wonderful time 00:13:31.37\00:13:33.58 ministering in the country of Ireland, singing. 00:13:33.61\00:13:35.64 The students sang beautiful music 00:13:35.68\00:13:37.25 in beautiful places. 00:13:37.28\00:13:38.61 And there were miracles that we witnessed. 00:13:38.65\00:13:40.35 And then at the end we had a little debriefing session. 00:13:40.38\00:13:42.98 Everybody sits in a circle and we talk about 00:13:43.02\00:13:44.55 how God has blessed and how we've grown together 00:13:44.59\00:13:46.65 and grown closer to Him 00:13:46.69\00:13:48.12 and students are sharing, raise your hand and share, 00:13:48.16\00:13:50.66 you know, what do you appreciate? 00:13:50.69\00:13:52.03 What most stands out to you? 00:13:52.06\00:13:53.46 And I couldn't believe it, 00:13:53.50\00:13:54.83 after all the amazing things we went through. 00:13:54.86\00:13:56.36 The number one comment 00:13:56.40\00:13:57.73 that I heard again and again from students 00:13:57.77\00:13:59.50 and not the only comment, 00:13:59.53\00:14:00.87 but it was the most frequent thing 00:14:00.90\00:14:02.24 they said was 00:14:02.27\00:14:03.61 Mr. Kay, we thank you 00:14:03.64\00:14:04.97 that you made us keep our phones at home. 00:14:05.01\00:14:06.91 So after that, 00:14:06.94\00:14:08.28 it's like you come out of the grip 00:14:08.31\00:14:09.98 of that addictive cycle, 00:14:10.01\00:14:11.35 where you're in that anxiety and fear of missing out 00:14:11.38\00:14:14.98 as they call it on social media, 00:14:15.02\00:14:16.79 you have smartphone loss anxiety disorder, 00:14:16.82\00:14:19.19 as they call it in science publications. 00:14:19.22\00:14:21.16 And they get a couple of weeks to just detox from it. 00:14:21.19\00:14:24.96 And they are so appreciative 00:14:24.99\00:14:26.93 that you took that away from them for their good 00:14:26.96\00:14:29.76 and you grow together. 00:14:29.80\00:14:31.13 They said, we, we, 00:14:31.17\00:14:32.50 our relationships are better deeper. 00:14:32.53\00:14:34.20 We feel like we have more fun. 00:14:34.24\00:14:36.50 And we're not all sitting on our phones 00:14:36.54\00:14:37.87 doing our own thing. 00:14:37.91\00:14:39.24 That's fabulous. 00:14:39.27\00:14:40.61 Now is this are instances like this, 00:14:40.64\00:14:43.31 and I haven't asked you this yet, 00:14:43.35\00:14:44.91 but how did you make a switch from being a history teacher, 00:14:44.95\00:14:51.85 a Bible teacher 00:14:51.89\00:14:53.32 into the Belt of Truth Ministries 00:14:53.36\00:14:56.99 that you founded? 00:14:57.03\00:14:58.63 Was the impetus in part 00:14:58.66\00:15:02.66 for the Media on the Brain series 00:15:02.70\00:15:05.17 that Scott does? 00:15:05.20\00:15:07.14 Was this from your experience with young people? 00:15:07.17\00:15:10.04 Absolutely because I saw my own students 00:15:10.07\00:15:12.07 just getting deeper and deeper into the problems of media 00:15:12.11\00:15:16.28 and, you know, I promote media use, 00:15:16.31\00:15:17.88 we're using media now. 00:15:17.91\00:15:19.25 Our ministry is in the media production ministry. 00:15:19.28\00:15:21.08 We have, we do DVDs and stuff. 00:15:21.12\00:15:23.08 So it wasn't like 00:15:23.12\00:15:24.45 we shouldn't be utilizing screens and tools 00:15:24.49\00:15:27.12 to God's glory. 00:15:27.16\00:15:28.49 You know, that would be a problem 00:15:28.52\00:15:29.86 equivalent to the problem we face 00:15:29.89\00:15:31.43 if we weren't preaching the gospel using media. 00:15:31.46\00:15:33.86 So, but I did see them in worldly media 00:15:33.90\00:15:37.17 and just negative dynamics and cycles 00:15:37.20\00:15:40.00 that they were finding themselves in. 00:15:40.04\00:15:41.37 So I wanted to share with them 00:15:41.40\00:15:42.74 and I was gathering information, 00:15:42.77\00:15:44.11 pulling information together to share with them. 00:15:44.14\00:15:45.94 And so that actually one thing leads to another 00:15:45.97\00:15:47.91 and local pastors are asking me to preach on the same topic 00:15:47.94\00:15:50.88 'cause all the families and all of us need this, 00:15:50.91\00:15:52.45 it's not just the young people. 00:15:52.48\00:15:54.68 And then that leads to camp meetings 00:15:54.72\00:15:56.05 at the conference level, 00:15:56.08\00:15:57.42 and then many churches that were at the camp meeting say, 00:15:57.45\00:15:59.19 can you do the seminar for us? 00:15:59.22\00:16:00.56 Can you do the seminar for us? 00:16:00.59\00:16:01.92 So Media on the Brain, as you mentioned, 00:16:01.96\00:16:03.99 was birthed out of that experience 00:16:04.03\00:16:05.66 of ministering to young people and seeing their own needs. 00:16:05.69\00:16:09.33 And people become liberated 00:16:09.36\00:16:10.83 by information that is empowering. 00:16:10.87\00:16:12.73 It's not condemning, it's not preaching at them. 00:16:12.77\00:16:15.27 It's, you know, this is the, 00:16:15.30\00:16:16.64 these are the effects of this media, 00:16:16.67\00:16:18.04 scientifically, factually, 00:16:18.07\00:16:19.81 and here are the tools and the choices we can make 00:16:19.84\00:16:22.24 to break free from that. 00:16:22.28\00:16:23.71 So it was a great joy 00:16:23.75\00:16:25.08 to go into full-time speaking ministry 00:16:25.11\00:16:26.55 on the heels of that. 00:16:26.58\00:16:27.92 You know, and I believe you said 376 churches before COVID? 00:16:27.95\00:16:31.45 Yes. Can you believe that? 00:16:31.49\00:16:32.85 He spoke at 376 churches before COVID struck, 00:16:32.89\00:16:39.79 if I'll say struck. 00:16:39.83\00:16:41.76 And now you do some virtual seminars 00:16:41.80\00:16:44.83 and camp meetings and things. 00:16:44.87\00:16:47.64 Tell us just a little bit 00:16:47.67\00:16:50.21 about your Media on the Brain and you started that 2012? 00:16:50.24\00:16:56.21 Yep. Okay. 00:16:56.24\00:16:57.58 Yeah, 2012. 00:16:57.61\00:16:58.95 I mean, we were already deep into it 00:16:58.98\00:17:00.32 as far as, you know, social media smartphones, 00:17:00.35\00:17:02.78 but mainly Media on the Brain 00:17:02.82\00:17:05.09 was focusing on the worldliness of the entertainment industry. 00:17:05.12\00:17:09.16 And so it was, you know, we wanna be sanctified. 00:17:09.19\00:17:11.26 We wanna... 00:17:11.29\00:17:12.63 The Bible says come apart and be separate, 00:17:12.66\00:17:14.30 saith the Lord, 00:17:14.33\00:17:15.66 touch no unclean thing and I will receive you. 00:17:15.70\00:17:17.87 And it also warns us in Romans 12 00:17:17.90\00:17:20.07 that we should not be conformed to this world, 00:17:20.10\00:17:22.17 but we can have the joy of being transformed 00:17:22.20\00:17:24.21 by the renewing of our minds. 00:17:24.24\00:17:25.57 Amen. 00:17:25.61\00:17:26.94 And so, that's not some legalistic standard, 00:17:26.98\00:17:28.51 that's a joy to step into that newness of life 00:17:28.54\00:17:31.25 and find the freedom from the need to, 00:17:31.28\00:17:33.68 and that's my own personal testimony, 00:17:33.72\00:17:36.08 the need to watch the game. 00:17:36.12\00:17:37.49 I know, I can't miss the latest soap opera 00:17:37.52\00:17:39.75 or whatever it is you might be into. 00:17:39.79\00:17:42.49 That's a freedom, right? 00:17:42.52\00:17:43.93 And so Media on the Brain was more focused 00:17:43.96\00:17:45.96 on finding freedom from the worldly media. 00:17:45.99\00:17:48.56 Okay. 00:17:48.60\00:17:49.93 As the years went on, 00:17:49.96\00:17:51.30 as I'm preaching that at churches, 00:17:51.33\00:17:52.67 2012, '13, '14, '15, '16, 00:17:52.70\00:17:55.40 the smartphones are becoming taking more of a hold 00:17:55.44\00:17:57.94 and social media being a bigger deal, 00:17:57.97\00:17:59.97 video game addiction deepening, 00:18:00.01\00:18:02.04 child development being affected even more, 00:18:02.08\00:18:04.71 and a lot more research and studies being done 00:18:04.75\00:18:06.98 on the effects of media 00:18:07.02\00:18:08.35 that hadn't been done yet in 2012. 00:18:08.38\00:18:10.79 So there was just a need to continue it, 00:18:10.82\00:18:12.45 you know, at first I thought, 00:18:12.49\00:18:13.82 hey, we'll do this media seminar 00:18:13.86\00:18:15.19 for a little while 00:18:15.22\00:18:16.56 and people are waking up 00:18:16.59\00:18:17.93 and they're gonna get it, right? 00:18:17.96\00:18:19.29 Well, not so, the culture just kept getting 00:18:19.33\00:18:20.73 more and more immersed 00:18:20.76\00:18:22.16 and mental health consequences started manifesting themselves. 00:18:22.20\00:18:26.07 So yeah, that kind of brought us up 00:18:26.10\00:18:28.10 to more recent years. 00:18:28.14\00:18:29.47 Okay. And that series was Media Mind? 00:18:29.50\00:18:32.37 Oh, yeah. In 2019, The Media Mind. 00:18:32.41\00:18:35.18 The Media Mind. 00:18:35.21\00:18:36.54 I didn't intend to do a second series on media. 00:18:36.58\00:18:38.78 It's like, you know, we covered it, 00:18:38.81\00:18:40.78 but it's there still with so much information 00:18:40.82\00:18:43.59 coming out in those years 00:18:43.62\00:18:44.95 about the harmful effects 00:18:44.99\00:18:46.32 and the big tech Titans 00:18:46.35\00:18:48.62 and the engineers in Silicon Valley themselves 00:18:48.66\00:18:51.46 coming out and saying, 00:18:51.49\00:18:52.83 you know, we don't do it that way 00:18:52.86\00:18:54.20 in our homes with our children 00:18:54.23\00:18:55.76 and several whistleblowers coming out of that industry, 00:18:55.80\00:18:59.43 just a whole lot more 00:18:59.47\00:19:00.80 that really needed to be delivered to people, 00:19:00.84\00:19:02.17 to give us that stronger, wakeup call 00:19:02.20\00:19:03.87 that we can raise the standard and find more joy in Christ. 00:19:03.91\00:19:06.88 You know, we have in our pastoral department, 00:19:06.91\00:19:09.74 I think they get calls. 00:19:09.78\00:19:11.78 I know weekly probably more often than that, 00:19:11.81\00:19:14.38 but people are calling, saying my child has changed. 00:19:14.42\00:19:18.35 My child is really into video games. 00:19:18.39\00:19:21.26 They have become rebellious. 00:19:21.29\00:19:22.72 They won't do this 00:19:22.76\00:19:24.09 or their schoolwork is suffering 00:19:24.13\00:19:27.33 and it's not, you know, we think of gamers, 00:19:27.36\00:19:30.90 people who are spending sometimes 24 hours 00:19:30.93\00:19:35.00 or longer on a video game. 00:19:35.04\00:19:38.07 But what is interesting 00:19:38.11\00:19:41.34 is we see that 00:19:41.38\00:19:43.24 even I will confess, 00:19:43.28\00:19:45.68 I gave my niece when she was, 00:19:45.71\00:19:48.42 I think it was her when she was nine years old, 00:19:48.45\00:19:51.22 I got, I was looking for a toy. 00:19:51.25\00:19:53.49 I wanted to be educational. 00:19:53.52\00:19:55.92 And I bought her an educational, 00:19:55.96\00:19:58.33 I won't say the name of it, 00:19:58.36\00:19:59.69 but it's a little kind of like an iPad. 00:19:59.73\00:20:02.46 And it was promoted as, this is so wonderful. 00:20:02.50\00:20:06.94 That Christmas Eve, that Christmas night, 00:20:06.97\00:20:10.54 she was in her bed early. 00:20:10.57\00:20:12.71 I mean, she wasn't in bed. 00:20:12.74\00:20:14.48 She was laying on her bed and she was on that. 00:20:14.51\00:20:16.78 And I went in and tried to interact with her. 00:20:16.81\00:20:19.95 She was a different child. 00:20:19.98\00:20:21.55 She wouldn't look up, she wouldn't give eye contact. 00:20:21.58\00:20:24.62 And I thought what have I done. 00:20:24.65\00:20:27.32 Now, we know from the statistics 00:20:27.36\00:20:31.73 we know from things that are being published 00:20:31.76\00:20:33.96 in scientific journals, 00:20:34.00\00:20:35.90 there is a true problem with addiction, 00:20:35.93\00:20:40.10 addiction to iPhones, addiction to the internet, 00:20:40.14\00:20:43.17 addiction to social media, 00:20:43.20\00:20:45.71 and it tearing at the fabric of society. 00:20:45.74\00:20:49.51 Absolutely. 00:20:49.54\00:20:50.88 But this is one of the reasons 00:20:50.91\00:20:52.25 we decided to do Digital Disconnect, 00:20:52.28\00:20:56.52 not as he said in a condemnatory way, 00:20:56.55\00:21:00.16 but in a way to show you, there's joy in life. 00:21:00.19\00:21:04.73 So let's talk a little about the series itself? 00:21:04.76\00:21:08.23 Yeah. 00:21:08.26\00:21:09.60 The first five programs kind of are grouped together, 00:21:09.63\00:21:13.07 and these programs are titled how to be human again. 00:21:13.10\00:21:17.41 The hearts of the children, media and the child brain, 00:21:17.44\00:21:21.61 anti-social media. 00:21:21.64\00:21:24.25 And this is your brain on media. 00:21:24.28\00:21:27.22 Give us for those who are watching, 00:21:27.25\00:21:29.78 why would they wanna watch Digital Disconnect? 00:21:29.82\00:21:32.55 What are they going to learn 00:21:32.59\00:21:34.72 about how media affects children? 00:21:34.76\00:21:37.43 They're gonna learn a ton. 00:21:37.46\00:21:38.79 In fact, if there's a fault in my presentation, 00:21:38.83\00:21:40.90 style is too much, 00:21:40.93\00:21:42.76 but I just really want people 00:21:42.80\00:21:44.13 to have the full quantity of information 00:21:44.17\00:21:45.70 that we can get through 00:21:45.73\00:21:47.07 'cause it's not just somebody's opinion, right? 00:21:47.10\00:21:48.44 It's not old some speculative thing. 00:21:48.47\00:21:50.54 It is, as you mentioned, scientific journals 00:21:50.57\00:21:52.37 quotes from the industry. 00:21:52.41\00:21:53.91 When you get into this as your Brain on Media, 00:21:53.94\00:21:55.94 that was the last one you mentioned 00:21:55.98\00:21:57.31 that program number five 00:21:57.35\00:21:58.68 and the addictive aspects of these, 00:21:58.71\00:22:00.15 the diagnostic and statistical manual 00:22:00.18\00:22:02.02 of the psychiatry community 00:22:02.05\00:22:03.69 labels media addictions. 00:22:03.72\00:22:05.45 And so that's something that's accepted in the industry. 00:22:05.49\00:22:07.39 It's not rhetoric 00:22:07.42\00:22:08.76 or somebody using flowery language. 00:22:08.79\00:22:10.43 It's a real serious problem. 00:22:10.46\00:22:11.79 There are so many scholars, researchers, 00:22:11.83\00:22:14.30 child development experts, industry insiders, 00:22:14.33\00:22:16.67 who are saying the same thing. 00:22:16.70\00:22:18.13 So when we hear them say it, 00:22:18.17\00:22:19.50 then it's not just somebody and their idea, you know. 00:22:19.53\00:22:23.61 I've got kids, so I think everybody wants 00:22:23.64\00:22:26.44 what's best for the children. 00:22:26.47\00:22:28.64 And that's kinda what really tugs at our hearts first 00:22:28.68\00:22:30.88 and foremost of all. 00:22:30.91\00:22:32.28 I mean, we could all make changes in our media. 00:22:32.31\00:22:33.85 We could all do experiments and try something different 00:22:33.88\00:22:36.79 and see if the way that our mind works 00:22:36.82\00:22:38.45 changes the whole work. 00:22:38.49\00:22:39.82 The whole crew... 00:22:39.85\00:22:41.19 I have to tell you, the whole crew, me included, 00:22:41.22\00:22:42.56 everybody is sitting there and listening to you 00:22:42.59\00:22:44.43 as you're recording these programs, 00:22:44.46\00:22:46.16 and then people are going well, I'm under conviction, 00:22:46.19\00:22:48.73 I'm under conviction. 00:22:48.76\00:22:50.10 Yep, I'm under conviction too. 00:22:50.13\00:22:52.17 So when you talk about it is really an addiction. 00:22:52.20\00:22:57.34 What kind of effect does this have 00:22:57.37\00:23:01.38 this constant internet, 00:23:01.41\00:23:02.74 it's the constant being on the phone 00:23:02.78\00:23:05.11 and even social media has really become a big one. 00:23:05.15\00:23:09.38 What effect does this have on the brain? 00:23:09.42\00:23:12.89 And particularly in the social aspect, 00:23:12.92\00:23:15.36 how does that affect children? 00:23:15.39\00:23:17.33 Well, if you talk about the brain regions, 00:23:17.36\00:23:18.86 we're looking at a lower prefrontal cortex function 00:23:18.89\00:23:22.06 because of the over stimulating effect of these media 00:23:22.10\00:23:24.70 on the developing brains of children 00:23:24.73\00:23:26.84 and an overactive limbic system, 00:23:26.87\00:23:28.80 which is going to lead to more problems 00:23:28.84\00:23:30.71 along with self-regulation 00:23:30.74\00:23:32.61 of behavior of mood, outburst, 00:23:32.64\00:23:35.24 the lizard brain, exactly more animalistic outbursts 00:23:35.28\00:23:38.48 and emotional, and even lustful the appetites. 00:23:38.51\00:23:41.45 And we all have that. 00:23:41.48\00:23:42.82 So when we talk about the child's brain 00:23:42.85\00:23:44.69 and the effects on the developing brain, 00:23:44.72\00:23:46.82 it's especially pronounced for them. 00:23:46.86\00:23:49.39 And they're at critical windows of development 00:23:49.42\00:23:51.46 where you don't want to disrupt and interrupt 00:23:51.49\00:23:53.36 what's supposed to be developing properly 00:23:53.40\00:23:55.16 in the right balance, 00:23:55.20\00:23:56.53 but in a way, all of our brains are developing, right? 00:23:56.56\00:23:58.57 Because they're always changing. 00:23:58.60\00:24:00.30 Every thought we think, every word we say, 00:24:00.34\00:24:02.37 every program we watched 00:24:02.40\00:24:03.74 like this, or a worldly one, 00:24:03.77\00:24:05.17 or what we read if we read this book or that book, 00:24:05.21\00:24:08.21 the way we think, the choices we make, 00:24:08.24\00:24:10.51 all our reacting back upon our own brain 00:24:10.55\00:24:13.45 and forming our characters. 00:24:13.48\00:24:15.02 So when you ask 00:24:15.05\00:24:16.38 how it affects the child's brain, 00:24:16.42\00:24:18.05 it's going to do that to all of us, 00:24:18.09\00:24:19.69 maybe to a lesser extent than the children, 00:24:19.72\00:24:21.66 but then it will manifest in behaviors and emotions 00:24:21.69\00:24:25.16 and mental health conditions 00:24:25.19\00:24:27.10 that you might not have known were the cause, 00:24:27.13\00:24:28.76 were caused by the media 00:24:28.80\00:24:30.13 or impacted in part by the media. 00:24:30.17\00:24:32.87 Depression is one of the first things 00:24:32.90\00:24:34.24 people notice. 00:24:34.27\00:24:35.60 An addict to anything, 00:24:35.64\00:24:36.97 if you're addicted to anything, 00:24:37.01\00:24:38.34 it increases depression. 00:24:38.37\00:24:40.61 We talk about attention span, 00:24:40.64\00:24:42.64 remember the Time Magazine article, 00:24:42.68\00:24:44.21 you have a shorter attention span 00:24:44.25\00:24:45.58 than a goldfish. 00:24:45.61\00:24:46.95 We'll get into that in the series. 00:24:46.98\00:24:48.32 But that's a function of lower prefrontal cortex ability, 00:24:48.35\00:24:53.25 lower attention span. 00:24:53.29\00:24:54.96 We're seeing skyrocketing rates of stress and anxiety 00:24:54.99\00:24:59.79 and all of these different mental health conditions 00:24:59.83\00:25:02.13 that are diagnosed in psychiatry circles. 00:25:02.16\00:25:05.23 But also people have subclinical level. 00:25:05.27\00:25:07.70 You know, I just feel low. 00:25:07.74\00:25:09.34 I don't qualify for an addiction. 00:25:09.37\00:25:10.91 I'm not seeing a specialist. 00:25:10.94\00:25:12.27 You know, I don't have depression, 00:25:12.31\00:25:13.64 but maybe I'm feeling lower than I otherwise would 00:25:13.68\00:25:16.71 if I wasn't on social media three hours a day, right? 00:25:16.75\00:25:19.81 Or if the child wasn't playing that video game 00:25:19.85\00:25:21.72 for an hour a day? 00:25:21.75\00:25:23.08 So it takes its toll measurably, 00:25:23.12\00:25:25.32 and everybody sees it anecdotally, 00:25:25.35\00:25:27.16 you saw it in your niece in one night. 00:25:27.19\00:25:28.86 I mean, that's quite something. 00:25:28.89\00:25:30.49 Or you mentioned the social. 00:25:30.53\00:25:31.86 You said, especially socially. 00:25:31.89\00:25:33.33 That's a big one. 00:25:33.36\00:25:34.70 I mean, I've talked to daycare professionals 00:25:34.73\00:25:36.20 and I've looked at researchers 00:25:36.23\00:25:37.67 who interviewed preschool teachers 00:25:37.70\00:25:39.13 and the data is coming in 00:25:39.17\00:25:40.50 and probably the most significant effect on children 00:25:40.54\00:25:43.71 is a lowering in their emotional intelligence. 00:25:43.74\00:25:46.44 That's the sociability, 00:25:46.47\00:25:47.81 the eye contact, 00:25:47.84\00:25:49.18 the language of verbal, nonverbal communications 00:25:49.21\00:25:51.51 is being lost on a generation that stares at a screen 00:25:51.55\00:25:54.38 instead of seeing the face of mother 00:25:54.42\00:25:56.12 and the babysitter 00:25:56.15\00:25:57.72 being the screen 00:25:57.75\00:25:59.09 and the devices captivating their attention, 00:25:59.12\00:26:01.29 not just hyper stimulating the brain 00:26:01.32\00:26:03.09 and affecting it in all those ways, 00:26:03.12\00:26:04.66 but it's what they're not getting. 00:26:04.69\00:26:06.80 When they're on the screen, 00:26:06.83\00:26:08.16 they're not getting the interaction 00:26:08.20\00:26:09.53 with mom and dad, with grandma and grandpa 00:26:09.56\00:26:11.13 with kind of life we used to live socially. 00:26:11.17\00:26:13.84 That's why we call it anti-social media 00:26:13.87\00:26:15.60 in episode four, 00:26:15.64\00:26:16.97 because these types of devices really do reduce 00:26:17.01\00:26:20.31 the ability of children 00:26:20.34\00:26:21.71 to engage socially, emotionally. 00:26:21.74\00:26:23.45 The Bible says the love of many will wax cold 00:26:23.48\00:26:26.58 in the last days. 00:26:26.61\00:26:27.95 So I guess you could say 00:26:27.98\00:26:29.32 that's a fulfillment of prophecy 00:26:29.35\00:26:30.69 'cause the ability to empathize 00:26:30.72\00:26:32.05 and feel other people's feelings 00:26:32.09\00:26:33.42 is a form of love. 00:26:33.46\00:26:34.79 And, you know, Scott, 00:26:34.82\00:26:36.16 my husband and I were in Dallas 00:26:36.19\00:26:37.53 a few years back at Christmas time 00:26:37.56\00:26:39.76 in the mall 00:26:39.79\00:26:41.16 and the three young girls, 00:26:41.20\00:26:42.60 probably all around the age of 16 00:26:42.63\00:26:45.13 walked past us. 00:26:45.17\00:26:46.70 And two of them are laughing and having the best time 00:26:46.74\00:26:49.54 and the other little girl's on social media. 00:26:49.57\00:26:53.14 And so I said, bless her heart. 00:26:53.17\00:26:56.08 She's artificially connected. 00:26:56.11\00:26:58.51 She thinks she's connected. 00:26:58.55\00:26:59.98 She's missing out on all this fun 00:27:00.02\00:27:02.25 'cause she's like this. 00:27:02.28\00:27:03.69 Well about almost an hour later, 00:27:03.72\00:27:06.45 same little group of girls passes by, 00:27:06.49\00:27:09.72 the other two girls 00:27:09.76\00:27:11.09 are just practically slapping their thigh. 00:27:11.13\00:27:14.00 They're laughing so hard. 00:27:14.03\00:27:15.46 And the one girl is like this. 00:27:15.50\00:27:17.27 Yeah. 00:27:17.30\00:27:19.93 I do believe, 00:27:19.97\00:27:21.64 I've talked with a lot of people 00:27:21.67\00:27:23.54 who have gone on a media fast 00:27:23.57\00:27:26.84 and it has made a big difference 00:27:26.88\00:27:28.74 in a growing up slide. 00:27:28.78\00:27:30.11 Absolutely. 00:27:30.15\00:27:31.48 But you're quoting from industry experts 00:27:31.51\00:27:36.28 who are prescribing for children 00:27:36.32\00:27:39.02 with ADHD, anxiety, depression, 00:27:39.05\00:27:42.39 they prescribe a media fast. 00:27:42.42\00:27:45.53 And what happens? 00:27:45.56\00:27:46.93 Dr. Victoria Dunckley, professional psychiatrist. 00:27:46.96\00:27:49.46 She gets hundreds of children and adolescents 00:27:49.50\00:27:51.50 comes to her practice 00:27:51.53\00:27:52.87 and she's treated hundreds of them 00:27:52.90\00:27:54.40 with a media fast 00:27:54.44\00:27:55.94 to see how their mental health conditions might resolve. 00:27:55.97\00:27:58.84 Three weeks of a completely screen-free life 00:27:58.87\00:28:01.98 for these children. 00:28:02.01\00:28:03.35 It is strict, three weeks, no media, 00:28:03.38\00:28:05.15 not even good media used for good purposes. 00:28:05.18\00:28:07.22 We're just getting off of it entirely for three weeks. 00:28:07.25\00:28:09.95 And then after that, 00:28:09.98\00:28:11.32 we can see what kind of things we can add back in. 00:28:11.35\00:28:12.89 It's the program that she puts them on. 00:28:12.92\00:28:15.16 Eighty percent of her children and youth 00:28:15.19\00:28:18.26 who are diagnosed with mental health disorders. 00:28:18.29\00:28:20.40 So these are the hardest cases. 00:28:20.43\00:28:22.10 Eighty percent of them 00:28:22.13\00:28:23.47 have the majority of their symptoms disappear. 00:28:23.50\00:28:25.47 And half of them have all their symptoms disappear. 00:28:25.50\00:28:28.24 It is truly amazing. 00:28:28.27\00:28:29.60 And so, it's no surprise that the tech executives 00:28:29.64\00:28:33.17 and the engineers in Silicon Valley 00:28:33.21\00:28:35.84 who know how these devices are affecting children, 00:28:35.88\00:28:38.45 particularly the interactive screen time, 00:28:38.48\00:28:40.48 the iPad games, the video games, 00:28:40.52\00:28:42.15 the playing on the phone, 00:28:42.18\00:28:43.72 they said to a person almost 00:28:43.75\00:28:46.19 it's a consensus in Silicon Valley, 00:28:46.22\00:28:48.12 according to one New York Times report 00:28:48.16\00:28:49.69 where they looked into this. 00:28:49.72\00:28:51.29 These people, who are making the apps, 00:28:51.33\00:28:53.83 making the devices, 00:28:53.86\00:28:55.20 making these addictive platforms 00:28:55.23\00:28:57.43 don't have their children on them. 00:28:57.47\00:28:59.57 Some of them famous names who came out in interviews 00:28:59.60\00:29:01.64 and said the same thing, but it's not just the biggest, 00:29:01.67\00:29:04.17 most famous people. 00:29:04.21\00:29:05.57 It's the people my age who have kids who are the, 00:29:05.61\00:29:07.61 you know, tech gurus, 00:29:07.64\00:29:09.24 the wizards of digital pharmakia, 00:29:09.28\00:29:11.21 who are crafting these concoctions for us, 00:29:11.25\00:29:13.35 that their children aren't touching the devices, 00:29:13.38\00:29:15.92 their daycare providers, 00:29:15.95\00:29:17.79 their nannies rather are signing contracts, 00:29:17.82\00:29:19.65 You know, I will not, 00:29:19.69\00:29:21.02 you will not have my kid on a device, 00:29:21.06\00:29:22.79 give them the Play-Doh, get in the sandbox and that. 00:29:22.82\00:29:25.56 Nor will you be on a device in front of my child. 00:29:25.59\00:29:28.26 Exactly 'cause it's second hand screen time, 00:29:28.30\00:29:29.90 you understand. 00:29:29.93\00:29:31.27 A secondhand smoke, isn't it? Yeah. 00:29:31.30\00:29:32.67 That's amazing. 00:29:32.70\00:29:34.04 But you know what? 00:29:34.07\00:29:35.40 I remember reading that 00:29:35.44\00:29:36.77 and what surprised me in Silicon Valley was that 00:29:36.81\00:29:40.71 in their high schools, 00:29:40.74\00:29:43.45 they were so limited to their computer access, 00:29:43.48\00:29:48.55 their internet access. 00:29:48.58\00:29:50.59 And now they've done studies to show that 00:29:50.62\00:29:54.99 actually there's a difference 00:29:55.02\00:29:57.23 between electronic reading 00:29:57.26\00:29:59.69 and reading where you turn a page 00:29:59.73\00:30:03.16 and it affects your cognitive ability even. 00:30:03.20\00:30:05.57 Tell us about that? It sure does. 00:30:05.60\00:30:07.10 We get into that in number 10, 00:30:07.14\00:30:08.47 episode 10 of Digital Disconnect, 00:30:08.50\00:30:10.67 people of the book in the age of the app, 00:30:10.71\00:30:13.27 that's also pulling from the Media Mind Series, 00:30:13.31\00:30:15.74 but we get into the question of you just raised it, 00:30:15.78\00:30:19.51 same text on a screen versus a book. 00:30:19.55\00:30:22.48 The reading comprehension is superior in the book. 00:30:22.52\00:30:25.45 They get deeper, more analytical, 00:30:25.49\00:30:27.26 critical thinking, engaged in the brain 00:30:27.29\00:30:29.39 when you're turning pages 00:30:29.42\00:30:30.76 and you're in that analog version, 00:30:30.79\00:30:32.66 you know, the old school, 00:30:32.69\00:30:34.03 the way we have trained our brains 00:30:34.06\00:30:35.53 to read on digital platforms 00:30:35.56\00:30:38.10 is we are actually better fact chasers on there. 00:30:38.13\00:30:40.80 So there's an advantage. We don't toss it all out. 00:30:40.84\00:30:43.10 You'll see, some of my information 00:30:43.14\00:30:44.51 in the series is quoting 00:30:44.54\00:30:45.87 from books I've read 00:30:45.91\00:30:47.24 and some of it is quoting from online articles 00:30:47.28\00:30:48.61 that I've searched out, 00:30:48.64\00:30:49.98 and great I like the internet, but kids in school, 00:30:50.01\00:30:53.68 the Silicon Valley people are sending them to the schools 00:30:53.72\00:30:56.32 that prohibit educational technology 00:30:56.35\00:30:58.82 until older ages. 00:30:58.85\00:31:00.26 Yes. Okay. 00:31:00.29\00:31:02.02 So now let's talk a little bit about transform, 00:31:02.06\00:31:05.59 because I wanna say something, 00:31:05.63\00:31:07.76 I just wanna keep making this point. 00:31:07.80\00:31:10.50 There is nothing negative about Digital Disconnect. 00:31:10.53\00:31:14.37 Amen. 00:31:14.40\00:31:15.74 Scott, you are a dynamic and anointed speaker, 00:31:15.77\00:31:19.07 glory to God, 00:31:19.11\00:31:20.48 but what he's focusing on is the joy of the Lord, 00:31:20.51\00:31:25.11 bringing people back into the joy of the Lord. 00:31:25.15\00:31:28.75 And episode number six 00:31:28.78\00:31:31.02 is transformed by the renewing of our minds. 00:31:31.05\00:31:36.42 Talk to us about that? 00:31:36.46\00:31:37.83 Well, it kind of connects with episode one, 00:31:37.86\00:31:39.63 how to be human again. 00:31:39.66\00:31:41.00 You know, God created Adam and Eve in the garden. 00:31:41.03\00:31:43.40 He created us with a certain design template 00:31:43.43\00:31:46.03 for our brains and bodies and social interactions 00:31:46.07\00:31:48.34 and spiritual interactions 00:31:48.37\00:31:49.84 and how we will thrive, how we can know Him, 00:31:49.87\00:31:53.21 how we can walk with Jesus, 00:31:53.24\00:31:54.74 how we can be in the family and in the church 00:31:54.78\00:31:57.18 and have all of God's designed for living 00:31:57.21\00:31:59.21 that can be restored and renewed. 00:31:59.25\00:32:01.45 In fact, one of my favorite definitions of redemption 00:32:01.48\00:32:04.19 that Jesus brought out 00:32:04.22\00:32:05.55 in His perfect life that He lived 00:32:05.59\00:32:07.32 and His sacrificial death on the cross 00:32:07.36\00:32:09.16 and His present work in the heavenly sanctuary 00:32:09.19\00:32:11.79 redemption can be summed up 00:32:11.83\00:32:13.33 with all of the merits of Christ, 00:32:13.36\00:32:14.93 restoring the image of God in man. 00:32:14.96\00:32:17.53 Amen. 00:32:17.57\00:32:18.90 And so we can get back 00:32:18.93\00:32:20.27 to how to be human as God designed it 00:32:20.30\00:32:21.97 in this digital age, 00:32:22.00\00:32:23.44 where we have become so subsumed. 00:32:23.47\00:32:25.97 I mean the average person 00:32:26.01\00:32:27.34 touches tabs and swipes their device 00:32:27.38\00:32:28.81 2,316 times per day. 00:32:28.84\00:32:31.68 Let me stop because you know what? 00:32:31.71\00:32:33.52 I'd never heard the word subsumed. 00:32:33.55\00:32:35.68 I heard consumed, exhumed you name, assumed. 00:32:35.72\00:32:39.19 Subsumed means that 00:32:39.22\00:32:40.86 you are just basically drawn into absorbed 00:32:40.89\00:32:45.43 into something else. 00:32:45.46\00:32:46.80 You're immersed in it. 00:32:46.83\00:32:48.16 And that's what happens with people on that. 00:32:48.20\00:32:51.40 Take the video game addict, he's on there all night. 00:32:51.43\00:32:54.54 What is it about that virtual place 00:32:54.57\00:32:57.57 where he's being inducted, invited, 00:32:57.61\00:33:00.98 enticed into a counterfeit reality 00:33:01.01\00:33:04.31 for 40 hours a week. 00:33:04.35\00:33:05.68 Five million Americans are playing 00:33:05.71\00:33:07.28 40 hours of video games a week. 00:33:07.32\00:33:08.68 That's amazing. 00:33:08.72\00:33:10.05 But they, you know, I've heard brain scientists say 00:33:10.09\00:33:13.05 they were hired to make it addictive. 00:33:13.09\00:33:15.19 It was purposely addictive. Yeah. 00:33:15.22\00:33:17.39 Well, I quote industry insiders in the series 00:33:17.43\00:33:19.79 who video games designers themselves, 00:33:19.83\00:33:22.06 who will not play several of the video games, 00:33:22.10\00:33:23.83 'cause they know how addictive it is. 00:33:23.87\00:33:25.37 They know the industry is designed 00:33:25.40\00:33:27.04 just like the casinos where, 00:33:27.07\00:33:28.40 I mean, this is a massive scandal. 00:33:28.44\00:33:30.07 One famous video game designer said 00:33:30.11\00:33:31.87 the video game industry 00:33:31.91\00:33:33.24 is the cigarettes of this century. 00:33:33.27\00:33:34.94 Meaning it's the scandal waiting to break. 00:33:34.98\00:33:36.81 And we all look back and go what were we thinking? 00:33:36.85\00:33:39.31 But the good news is transformed, you asked, 00:33:39.35\00:33:41.68 I didn't really get to that. 00:33:41.72\00:33:43.22 We can be transformed, 00:33:43.25\00:33:44.59 everything we've done bad to our brains, 00:33:44.62\00:33:47.26 God can renew. 00:33:47.29\00:33:48.76 And so that's the hope and the promise and the, 00:33:48.79\00:33:51.33 and it's not just a long shot, 00:33:51.36\00:33:53.23 you know, it's not just a pipe dream, 00:33:53.26\00:33:54.83 it's a scientific reality. 00:33:54.86\00:33:56.80 And, of course, a spiritual biblical promise 00:33:56.83\00:33:59.30 that when we return to God's way for living, 00:33:59.33\00:34:01.64 when we try something else, 00:34:01.67\00:34:03.67 we will find the fruits of it 00:34:03.71\00:34:05.61 will be maybe what we never thought and imagined. 00:34:05.64\00:34:08.71 I mean, when you see these kids 00:34:08.74\00:34:10.15 that go on a media fast 00:34:10.18\00:34:11.81 and their parents just throw up their hands, 00:34:11.85\00:34:13.18 what are we gonna do with them? 00:34:13.21\00:34:14.55 And then they're transformed. 00:34:14.58\00:34:15.92 I mean, we've had people write to us 00:34:15.95\00:34:17.29 like our kids are in this dark place 00:34:17.32\00:34:19.45 and we encourage them to do the media fast. 00:34:19.49\00:34:22.02 And here's the program. 00:34:22.06\00:34:23.39 Here's how you can do your evenings. 00:34:23.43\00:34:24.76 And three weeks later, 00:34:24.79\00:34:26.39 one month later, two months later, 00:34:26.43\00:34:27.76 people are saying, you've got a whole new kid 00:34:27.80\00:34:29.76 and it's just getting the right balance in there 00:34:29.80\00:34:32.07 and the spiritual power. 00:34:32.10\00:34:33.57 You know, you think about what Paul wrote, Romans 12:2, 00:34:33.60\00:34:36.14 "Do not be transformed to the... 00:34:36.17\00:34:39.81 I mean, do not be conformed to this world, 00:34:39.84\00:34:41.88 but be transformed by the renewing of your mind." 00:34:41.91\00:34:46.11 Amen. 00:34:46.15\00:34:47.48 And I guarantee you, 00:34:47.52\00:34:48.85 there's nothing that better renews the mind 00:34:48.88\00:34:52.15 than the biblical truth of God. 00:34:52.19\00:34:54.02 Absolutely. 00:34:54.06\00:34:55.39 Let's talk about, we got into a couple of programs, 00:34:55.42\00:34:57.86 media manipulation, 00:34:57.89\00:35:00.56 and the high priests of a new religion. 00:35:00.60\00:35:03.67 Let's talk about that for a minute? 00:35:03.70\00:35:05.03 That's the heavy stuff. 00:35:05.07\00:35:06.40 It gets pretty intense at that point. 00:35:06.43\00:35:07.77 If you thought the first ones are heavy, 00:35:07.80\00:35:09.14 those turn out to be light. 00:35:09.17\00:35:10.67 But you know, even before I answer that, 00:35:10.71\00:35:12.17 one of the things, 00:35:12.21\00:35:13.54 when you talk about the media fast 00:35:13.58\00:35:14.91 and the renewing of the brain 00:35:14.94\00:35:16.28 is not just getting rid of things 00:35:16.31\00:35:18.31 and what you're not doing, 00:35:18.35\00:35:20.08 but making sure to fill our lives 00:35:20.12\00:35:23.18 and fill our children's lives 00:35:23.22\00:35:25.19 to the brim and overflowing with all the good stuff. 00:35:25.22\00:35:29.16 So I never would want to just leave the impression 00:35:29.19\00:35:30.83 that just removing something so we got... 00:35:30.86\00:35:32.59 And what some of the good stuff 00:35:32.63\00:35:33.96 that parents are sitting out there saying what? 00:35:34.00\00:35:35.46 Relationships, nature, service, books, music, 00:35:35.50\00:35:41.44 entrepreneurial endeavors, cooking, building things, 00:35:41.47\00:35:46.01 kids doing their chores, 00:35:46.04\00:35:47.38 getting outside, climbing trees. 00:35:47.41\00:35:48.81 Kids being kids. Yeah, being kids. 00:35:48.84\00:35:50.61 The average 11 year old today has never climbed a tree 00:35:50.65\00:35:52.75 or the majority of 11 year olds 00:35:52.78\00:35:54.12 have never climbed a tree in the UK. 00:35:54.15\00:35:55.92 That blew my mind. 00:35:55.95\00:35:57.29 Now, I'm sorry, I didn't answer. 00:35:57.32\00:35:58.65 I gotta get into this question 'cause it's a big one. 00:35:58.69\00:36:00.29 Media manipulation, 00:36:00.32\00:36:01.76 you know, we were talking before we started 00:36:01.79\00:36:03.29 and you said, 00:36:03.32\00:36:04.66 Scott, we are a part of a vast social experiment. 00:36:04.69\00:36:08.16 Yes. 00:36:08.20\00:36:09.53 And I said, you're absolutely right, Shelley. 00:36:09.56\00:36:10.90 That's exactly what it is unknowingly. 00:36:10.93\00:36:12.73 And it's an experiment 00:36:12.77\00:36:14.10 we got signed up for without knowing. 00:36:14.14\00:36:16.00 We're consuming a product, 00:36:16.04\00:36:17.47 not knowing 00:36:17.51\00:36:18.84 what it will give us an overdose, 00:36:18.87\00:36:20.21 not knowing that it was addictive. 00:36:20.24\00:36:22.01 There's a lot of adults 00:36:22.04\00:36:23.68 who are addicted to their phones. 00:36:23.71\00:36:25.11 So media manipulation is really putting it mildly 00:36:25.15\00:36:28.72 and we're not talking about good uses of media. 00:36:28.75\00:36:31.72 When we discuss media manipulation 00:36:31.75\00:36:33.36 in the high priest of the new religion, 00:36:33.39\00:36:35.16 that's what they call themselves, 00:36:35.19\00:36:36.52 by the way. 00:36:36.56\00:36:37.89 That's makes for a nice, interesting title. 00:36:37.93\00:36:39.26 But that was Bertrand Russell, 00:36:39.29\00:36:40.63 who said that Hollywood 00:36:40.66\00:36:42.00 is the high priest of a new religion 00:36:42.03\00:36:43.40 because they will conform 00:36:43.43\00:36:44.97 into uniformity of thought 00:36:45.00\00:36:46.74 the value system of the young people, 00:36:46.77\00:36:48.94 and what they believe about fashion 00:36:48.97\00:36:50.41 and what they believe about love. 00:36:50.44\00:36:51.77 And this was a generation and a half ago 00:36:51.81\00:36:53.71 that they were already establishing this. 00:36:53.74\00:36:55.44 You can go back to the 1920s, 00:36:55.48\00:36:56.88 the founder of modern public relations, 00:36:56.91\00:36:59.11 the founder of modern advertising 00:36:59.15\00:37:00.58 and popular culture. 00:37:00.62\00:37:01.95 He was a nephew of Sigmund Freud. 00:37:01.98\00:37:03.65 So he knew about the mind and he said, 00:37:03.69\00:37:05.45 we can control the group mind 00:37:05.49\00:37:06.89 and they won't even know about it. 00:37:06.92\00:37:08.62 So he was very open and blunt in his book, Propaganda 00:37:08.66\00:37:12.33 about the agenda that they were up to 00:37:12.36\00:37:13.96 over a hundred years ago. 00:37:14.00\00:37:15.33 And we're still living in that world. 00:37:15.36\00:37:16.77 You get whistleblowers who come out of big tech, 00:37:16.80\00:37:19.63 who say we are in a position of controlling 00:37:19.67\00:37:22.27 what a billion people are doing right now. 00:37:22.30\00:37:24.11 And it's the most vast 00:37:24.14\00:37:26.21 and systematic control of human attention 00:37:26.24\00:37:28.98 in human history. 00:37:29.01\00:37:30.35 And so only if Edward Bernays could have had that, 00:37:30.38\00:37:33.68 you know, he had very primitive tools, 00:37:33.72\00:37:35.65 but we're talking about hypnotic elements 00:37:35.68\00:37:37.79 being used in the media, 00:37:37.82\00:37:39.22 through Hollywood, through the music industry. 00:37:39.25\00:37:41.66 And it goes deep in terms of deceptions, 00:37:41.69\00:37:44.39 in terms of the great controversy 00:37:44.43\00:37:45.93 that we find ourselves in. 00:37:45.96\00:37:47.30 Well, the thing that I've read about, 00:37:47.33\00:37:50.07 and you can correct me if I'm wrong, 00:37:50.10\00:37:51.60 but what I've read is when we are really thinking, 00:37:51.63\00:37:55.00 and I think you brought this out, 00:37:55.04\00:37:56.37 that when we're using our frontal lobe, 00:37:56.40\00:37:58.44 where the will, where the worship. 00:37:58.47\00:37:59.94 Yeah. 00:37:59.97\00:38:01.31 There's beta waves to the brain. 00:38:01.34\00:38:02.98 Exactly. But what happens is when we... 00:38:03.01\00:38:05.55 I love Scott talks about amusement. 00:38:05.58\00:38:08.68 Muse means to study and think on something. 00:38:08.72\00:38:11.82 A is the absence of studying and thinking. 00:38:11.85\00:38:14.96 So amusement. 00:38:14.99\00:38:16.32 When we go into this, 00:38:16.36\00:38:17.99 uh, we're watching these television movies, whatever, 00:38:18.03\00:38:23.73 what they are doing is 00:38:23.77\00:38:25.30 they're purposely doing things to put you not in the beta, 00:38:25.33\00:38:30.61 but to have the alpha waves. 00:38:30.64\00:38:33.31 And that's when you're open. 00:38:33.34\00:38:35.74 I mean, I remember studying, I interviewed someone who was, 00:38:35.78\00:38:40.02 had been in the new age 00:38:40.05\00:38:41.38 and they said, you know, 00:38:41.42\00:38:42.75 the whole idea of meditation is to get to an alpha wave. 00:38:42.78\00:38:47.36 The whole idea of marijuana, 00:38:47.39\00:38:49.36 it medically induces an alpha wave. 00:38:49.39\00:38:52.43 You're opening yourself up, 00:38:52.46\00:38:54.33 but the people here that are doing this, 00:38:54.36\00:38:56.50 they want to, because they wanna channel spirits. 00:38:56.53\00:38:59.43 When you open yourself, when you're in an alpha state, 00:38:59.47\00:39:03.30 you are open to suggestions from outside. 00:39:03.34\00:39:08.14 Yeah. That's absolutely true. 00:39:08.18\00:39:09.51 And some of them admit in quotes 00:39:09.54\00:39:10.88 that we go over in the series. 00:39:10.91\00:39:12.25 They say, we are trying to open people's souls 00:39:12.28\00:39:14.42 so that we can preach into their soul 00:39:14.45\00:39:15.78 what we want to say. 00:39:15.82\00:39:17.15 And it's like, wow, you couldn't make this up, 00:39:17.19\00:39:19.32 the kind of real nefarious scheme 00:39:19.35\00:39:21.52 that's been at play for again, for generations. 00:39:21.56\00:39:24.36 And now, as we approach 00:39:24.39\00:39:25.86 the final days of earth's history, 00:39:25.89\00:39:27.66 you can see that this system that's been built to deceive 00:39:27.70\00:39:31.73 can be utilized by Satan in his final deceptions. 00:39:31.77\00:39:34.74 So I believe it's pivotal critical, crucial 00:39:34.77\00:39:37.91 that we come apart and be separate now 00:39:37.94\00:39:39.87 from those systems of control 00:39:39.91\00:39:41.31 that we use media to God's glory. 00:39:41.34\00:39:44.05 You know, this, this platform isn't inducing 00:39:44.08\00:39:45.88 some sort of altered state of consciousness 00:39:45.91\00:39:47.52 because it's thoughtful, it's slower paced. 00:39:47.55\00:39:50.22 Whenever a parent, I talk to parents about, 00:39:50.25\00:39:51.95 well, what kinds of media at what ages, 00:39:51.99\00:39:54.32 you know, I always say, 00:39:54.36\00:39:55.69 you know, as they get older, if the program is nature paced, 00:39:55.72\00:39:59.53 it's not like cartoons and flashing images at them 00:39:59.56\00:40:02.03 and over stimulating their developing brain, 00:40:02.06\00:40:04.07 you know, you and I having a conversation, 00:40:04.10\00:40:05.60 it's like, we're in people's living room with them. 00:40:05.63\00:40:07.20 You know, it's a nature paced thing. 00:40:07.24\00:40:09.00 So it's not that screens are bad, 00:40:09.04\00:40:10.97 but we do need to be very serious 00:40:11.01\00:40:13.04 about trusting Hollywood, 00:40:13.07\00:40:15.24 trusting the advertising industry, 00:40:15.28\00:40:17.11 trusting the music industry. 00:40:17.15\00:40:18.48 And dare I say, even trusting big tech 00:40:18.51\00:40:20.52 as we utilize their platforms to get the message out, 00:40:20.55\00:40:23.05 that's more sticky and more difficult. 00:40:23.08\00:40:24.49 Some people are just blessed 00:40:24.52\00:40:25.85 by completely getting off of social media 00:40:25.89\00:40:28.06 because it's hampering their mental health 00:40:28.09\00:40:30.26 and they do a fast and after the fast they go, 00:40:30.29\00:40:32.26 wow, I feel way better. 00:40:32.29\00:40:33.63 I'm just gonna stay off. 00:40:33.66\00:40:35.00 But when it comes to Hollywood, 00:40:35.03\00:40:36.87 I think we know where we need to stand as Christians 00:40:36.90\00:40:38.97 on the Lord's side. 00:40:39.00\00:40:40.34 Well, you know, 00:40:40.37\00:40:43.14 people my age, when I say, 00:40:43.17\00:40:45.51 wow, the world has changed in 10 years, 00:40:45.54\00:40:48.04 little girls are no longer, 00:40:48.08\00:40:49.44 you see a little girl, that's 10, 00:40:49.48\00:40:51.18 she looks 16 the way they're dressing, 00:40:51.21\00:40:53.48 the way they're doing. 00:40:53.52\00:40:54.85 And you think what is going on? 00:40:54.88\00:40:57.75 Well, Hollywood has inundated that age group. 00:40:57.79\00:41:02.12 And we have one program 00:41:02.16\00:41:04.33 was called the spirit of the entertainment industry. 00:41:04.36\00:41:07.60 And these little girls often idolize stars 00:41:07.63\00:41:12.40 that are dressing a certain way, 00:41:12.43\00:41:14.67 doing a certain thing. 00:41:14.70\00:41:16.30 And parents or many parents 00:41:16.34\00:41:19.44 are just kind of losing control. 00:41:19.47\00:41:22.34 Kids don't have childhood anymore. 00:41:22.38\00:41:24.21 They don't play with little dolls. 00:41:24.25\00:41:26.05 They play with other things. Yeah. 00:41:26.08\00:41:28.42 So talk about the spirit of the entertainment industry. 00:41:28.45\00:41:32.85 You made some really fascinating, 00:41:32.89\00:41:36.02 we talked about 00:41:36.06\00:41:38.06 what the song writers are doing 00:41:38.09\00:41:41.66 and how many of them said, 00:41:41.70\00:41:45.00 I just channeled this song. 00:41:45.03\00:41:46.37 Yeah. Oh, yeah. 00:41:46.40\00:41:47.74 They say, people think we wrote our songs. 00:41:47.77\00:41:49.27 No, we were, we just happened 00:41:49.30\00:41:51.11 to have been awake when it arrived 00:41:51.14\00:41:53.04 and we are just a medium and another one says 00:41:53.07\00:41:55.98 I was an open temple filled with many spirits 00:41:56.01\00:41:58.68 that would pass through me. 00:41:58.71\00:42:00.05 And, I don't know who writes the songs. 00:42:00.08\00:42:03.25 Several of the actors talk about 00:42:03.28\00:42:04.99 how this is how I see acting. 00:42:05.02\00:42:06.79 You know, my body is a carrier for the spirits of the dead. 00:42:06.82\00:42:10.93 They believe that inhabit me. 00:42:10.96\00:42:12.66 And I mean, it's just quote after quote after quote. 00:42:12.69\00:42:14.73 You can say like one or two people 00:42:14.76\00:42:16.20 were into some weird things 00:42:16.23\00:42:17.57 and it wouldn't be worth necessarily doing an expose on, 00:42:17.60\00:42:20.44 but when you see like the biggest names 00:42:20.47\00:42:23.47 and a bunch of them, 00:42:23.51\00:42:25.01 and then one of them comes out 00:42:25.04\00:42:26.37 with kind of a whistleblowing mindset 00:42:26.41\00:42:28.14 and doesn't wanna get all her friends in trouble 00:42:28.18\00:42:30.01 but you remember the quote from Fairuza Balk, 00:42:30.05\00:42:32.45 the star of the witchcraft movie 00:42:32.48\00:42:34.08 where she goes, 00:42:34.12\00:42:35.45 yeah, a lot of entertainers 00:42:35.48\00:42:36.95 are very much into this witchcraft, 00:42:36.99\00:42:39.32 and they don't mention their names of course. 00:42:39.35\00:42:40.82 So some of them do brag about it to the media 00:42:40.86\00:42:42.82 and admit it, I guess, 00:42:42.86\00:42:44.33 but many of them are doing the very same things. 00:42:44.36\00:42:47.16 And so we get a sample and a window 00:42:47.20\00:42:49.03 into the entertainment industry 00:42:49.06\00:42:50.40 by those who have spoken about it. 00:42:50.43\00:42:52.20 But then Mrs. Balk tells us a lot more 00:42:52.23\00:42:55.60 than those people are into it. 00:42:55.64\00:42:56.97 Yeah. 00:42:57.01\00:42:58.34 Well, and it's just something, 00:42:58.37\00:42:59.71 we're just trying to give you a wakeup call 00:42:59.74\00:43:01.28 cause sometimes some parents are very good 00:43:01.31\00:43:05.48 about watching, controlling or regulating 00:43:05.51\00:43:09.58 I should say what their children watch. 00:43:09.62\00:43:12.52 Other parents they've got HBO 00:43:12.55\00:43:15.66 and the parents are in one room on the TV 00:43:15.69\00:43:17.99 and the kids are watching something on HBO 00:43:18.03\00:43:20.46 that is mind boggling to think. 00:43:20.50\00:43:23.93 I mean, it would be troublesome to me, 00:43:23.97\00:43:25.80 but for a child's brain, it's amazing. 00:43:25.83\00:43:28.90 Let's, I've got to, 00:43:28.94\00:43:30.27 we're running out of time so fast. 00:43:30.31\00:43:32.67 Programming 11 was amazing to me. 00:43:32.71\00:43:36.24 Program 11 is called the lust trap. 00:43:36.28\00:43:40.05 And we are going to, well, not we, 00:43:40.08\00:43:43.39 but Belt of Truth Ministry 00:43:43.42\00:43:45.19 Scott is going to offer a digital download 00:43:45.22\00:43:50.63 of materials to get people out of this. 00:43:50.66\00:43:54.76 But talk about the lust cascade? 00:43:54.80\00:43:57.87 Uh, the lust cascade. 00:43:57.90\00:43:59.23 Well, it's new term. 00:43:59.27\00:44:00.60 You won't find that one necessarily in the public, 00:44:00.64\00:44:01.97 the science publications, 00:44:02.00\00:44:03.34 but people talk about the stress cascade. 00:44:03.37\00:44:04.97 And as I was studying into the brain 00:44:05.01\00:44:06.71 and how lust works, 00:44:06.74\00:44:08.08 it's like its step-by-step 00:44:08.11\00:44:09.44 and it's like getting onto an on-ramp on a highway 00:44:09.48\00:44:11.98 where when you let the first, 00:44:12.01\00:44:13.82 you know, toe hold of the devil in 00:44:13.85\00:44:16.95 it leads to a cascade of events, 00:44:16.99\00:44:18.39 a domino effect of events in the brain 00:44:18.42\00:44:20.49 that leads to sexual immorality. 00:44:20.52\00:44:22.49 And so the first step in the lust cascade 00:44:22.52\00:44:24.39 is just the fact that the visual impetus, 00:44:24.43\00:44:27.93 the visual temptation is recognized, 00:44:27.96\00:44:31.43 but that step one, it isn't avoidable. 00:44:31.47\00:44:34.17 But step two is when it's dwelt upon 00:44:34.20\00:44:36.40 when it's pondered, when you behold that, 00:44:36.44\00:44:38.74 when you seek out more like it, 00:44:38.77\00:44:40.81 when you, when you ruminate that in the brain, 00:44:40.84\00:44:43.01 at that point, 00:44:43.04\00:44:44.38 you're heading down the lust cascade 00:44:44.41\00:44:45.75 and it changes 00:44:45.78\00:44:47.12 how the prefrontal cortex is working 00:44:47.15\00:44:48.48 and able to overrule the thoughts and impurities 00:44:48.52\00:44:51.22 that are entering in. 00:44:51.25\00:44:52.59 And pornography is a big deal even among Christians. 00:44:52.62\00:44:58.69 Yeah, 50% of Christian men admit that they are addicted. 00:44:58.73\00:45:02.16 And that's the ones that admit. 00:45:02.20\00:45:03.77 So this is a deep, 00:45:03.80\00:45:05.13 and that's why it's like we did a 30 minute program, 00:45:05.17\00:45:06.84 28 minute program in a series on media. 00:45:06.87\00:45:09.94 I'm like we gotta talk about lust 00:45:09.97\00:45:11.57 somewhere in there, 00:45:11.61\00:45:12.94 but didn't really do it justice, frankly. 00:45:12.97\00:45:14.51 And so I appreciate you saying, 00:45:14.54\00:45:15.88 "Hey, let's reach out to people 00:45:15.91\00:45:17.48 that are struggling deeply with that." 00:45:17.51\00:45:19.55 And so there's, 00:45:19.58\00:45:20.92 I got six hours on the topic of lust 00:45:20.95\00:45:22.28 'cause there's so much research, 00:45:22.32\00:45:23.65 particularly geared toward men 00:45:23.69\00:45:25.12 and the male brain and finding freedom, 00:45:25.15\00:45:27.36 the program for how to really break free 00:45:27.39\00:45:29.59 and find victory with a capital V. 00:45:29.62\00:45:31.73 And even though, 00:45:31.76\00:45:33.09 some of this research 00:45:33.13\00:45:34.46 has been done for men's brains, 00:45:34.50\00:45:35.83 let me tell you something, 00:45:35.86\00:45:37.20 I've talked with too many women who've called here 00:45:37.23\00:45:39.67 who have the same problem. 00:45:39.70\00:45:41.30 It's a problem that crosses gender. 00:45:41.34\00:45:44.57 And it is something that 00:45:44.61\00:45:46.47 the kinds of the information you present 00:45:46.51\00:45:49.51 will help both a male and a female. 00:45:49.54\00:45:52.78 Boredom and the Bible, 00:45:52.81\00:45:54.75 you have the best little video waiting, 00:45:54.78\00:45:58.72 he had some great video clips we couldn't use them all, 00:45:58.75\00:46:01.82 but of a family that went on a media fast. 00:46:01.86\00:46:04.96 And this little girl said she was probably 14, 15. 00:46:04.99\00:46:08.36 She said, wasn't boring at all. 00:46:08.40\00:46:10.70 And she even, we didn't get to there, 00:46:10.73\00:46:13.10 it was a portion of a long video, 00:46:13.13\00:46:14.97 but she said, 00:46:15.00\00:46:16.34 now I can go out and read my Bible for two hours. 00:46:16.37\00:46:19.01 And I just love it. 00:46:19.04\00:46:20.48 And I get so much out of it. 00:46:20.51\00:46:23.58 Why does a media fast eliminate boredom 00:46:23.61\00:46:26.85 with the Bible? 00:46:26.88\00:46:28.22 When you're addicted to something, 00:46:28.25\00:46:29.58 the pleasure receptors of the brain are numbed. 00:46:29.62\00:46:31.52 Dopamine receptors are shutting down 00:46:31.55\00:46:34.06 and the brain is just seeking for the quest of that addiction 00:46:34.09\00:46:36.86 or something like it to replace it. 00:46:36.89\00:46:38.86 At which point 00:46:38.89\00:46:40.23 you can't be satisfied and happy 00:46:40.26\00:46:41.60 and find joy in life 00:46:41.63\00:46:42.96 unless you are getting that thing. 00:46:43.00\00:46:44.67 And so when you remove that thing, 00:46:44.70\00:46:46.30 now life starts coming alive 00:46:46.33\00:46:47.94 and everything can become joyful, 00:46:47.97\00:46:49.50 including the Bible. 00:46:49.54\00:46:50.87 So people find it struggle to get into the Bible. 00:46:50.91\00:46:52.91 They think the problem is the Bible, 00:46:52.94\00:46:54.68 or they think I'm the problem. 00:46:54.71\00:46:56.11 No, no, it's just, there's a state in the brain 00:46:56.14\00:46:58.85 that is making it so that you're having a hard time, 00:46:58.88\00:47:00.95 really relishing the sweetness of the honey. 00:47:00.98\00:47:03.39 That is the word of God, 'cause you're sated. 00:47:03.42\00:47:05.69 The Bible says a sated man loathes honey. 00:47:05.72\00:47:07.89 So if you're sated with the worldliness 00:47:07.92\00:47:09.76 sated or satisfied or satiated with the over stimulating, 00:47:09.79\00:47:13.29 hypes entertaining culture. 00:47:13.33\00:47:15.70 You remove that 00:47:15.73\00:47:17.10 and the sober realities of life, 00:47:17.13\00:47:18.77 like God's Word, 00:47:18.80\00:47:20.14 like relationships walking in nature, 00:47:20.17\00:47:22.04 the beauty of a rainbow. 00:47:22.07\00:47:23.41 I mean, you name it, all the pleasures of life 00:47:23.44\00:47:25.87 really start to be perceived by the brain. 00:47:25.91\00:47:28.18 And they've shown in brain scans. 00:47:28.21\00:47:29.54 When somebody gets off their addiction, 00:47:29.58\00:47:31.18 they become happier. 00:47:31.21\00:47:32.55 So you just start to enjoy everything more, 00:47:32.58\00:47:33.92 especially the sweetest thing of all the Word of God. 00:47:33.95\00:47:36.92 So that young lady lived that, 00:47:36.95\00:47:38.45 her brain was changing over 30 days. 00:47:38.49\00:47:40.56 And she says now I can go out and sit outside 00:47:40.59\00:47:43.49 and read the Bible for hours and enjoy it. 00:47:43.53\00:47:45.83 And she says the media fast 00:47:45.86\00:47:47.20 life has not been boring at all. 00:47:47.23\00:47:49.43 'Cause you got to fill those spaces 00:47:49.46\00:47:51.13 with other things. 00:47:51.17\00:47:52.50 If you're just twiddling your thumbs and you're like, 00:47:52.53\00:47:53.87 I'm on a media fast staring at a blank wall, 00:47:53.90\00:47:55.64 watching paint dry, 00:47:55.67\00:47:57.01 you're gonna go find some media. 00:47:57.04\00:47:58.37 You're gonna slip up and not follow through. 00:47:58.41\00:47:59.81 So you've gotta have a plan before you start a fast. 00:47:59.84\00:48:02.18 Amen and amen. 00:48:02.21\00:48:03.55 We do want to take this opportunity be, 00:48:03.58\00:48:07.02 you know, you might want to have Scott 00:48:07.05\00:48:08.98 come to your camp meeting or your church 00:48:09.02\00:48:11.89 or come to a conference for you. 00:48:11.92\00:48:13.86 We're going to put his address up 00:48:13.89\00:48:15.49 in just a moment, 00:48:15.52\00:48:16.86 how you can get in touch with him. 00:48:16.89\00:48:18.23 But I wanted to take a moment to show. 00:48:18.26\00:48:19.76 I think it was Media on the Brain, 00:48:19.79\00:48:21.90 is that the one. 00:48:21.93\00:48:23.26 We had Media on the Brain and Media on the Mind, 00:48:23.30\00:48:25.83 these are, how many are in each series? 00:48:25.87\00:48:28.57 Media on the Brain was the one that we did starting in 2012, 00:48:28.60\00:48:31.87 that one's six DVDs. 00:48:31.91\00:48:33.68 And the Media Mind is five DVDs. 00:48:33.71\00:48:36.14 And the graphic there 00:48:36.18\00:48:37.51 is showing the overview of these two series. 00:48:37.55\00:48:40.75 So that's, this is 11 parts. 00:48:40.78\00:48:42.32 The download there, the digital download free offer 00:48:42.35\00:48:45.62 is for anybody 00:48:45.65\00:48:46.99 who just contacts our ministry and says, 00:48:47.02\00:48:48.89 we'd like that 'cause last time I was here, Shelley, 00:48:48.92\00:48:51.13 we offered a digit, a DVD to mail them. 00:48:51.16\00:48:54.80 And you got a few viewers. 00:48:54.83\00:48:56.26 As we said, while supplies last, 00:48:56.30\00:48:58.23 supplies didn't last very long. 00:48:58.27\00:48:59.60 So we started sending people out the digital download 00:48:59.63\00:49:01.97 instead of one free DVD that we sent last time we said, 00:49:02.00\00:49:05.24 well, since they don't get the physical DVD, 00:49:05.27\00:49:07.18 we're gonna do four. 00:49:07.21\00:49:08.54 So the digital download is a four part overview 00:49:08.58\00:49:12.41 of the 11 part DVDs 00:49:12.45\00:49:15.35 that I hold in my hand. 00:49:15.38\00:49:16.72 So I appreciate being able to share that. 00:49:16.75\00:49:18.52 And then tell us about the beltoftruthministries.tv?
