Amen. 00:07:00.85\00:07:02.18 Yeah. And that's crucial. 00:07:02.22\00:07:03.92 Like how do you witness in a secular society? 00:07:03.95\00:07:06.79 How do you take Christ into the marketplace? 00:07:06.82\00:07:09.82 So I feel like ASI really fills that void 00:07:09.86\00:07:14.30 and creates a great networking space. 00:07:14.33\00:07:16.73 Exactly. 00:07:16.77\00:07:18.10 And there's so many people that, you know, 00:07:18.13\00:07:20.17 it's been around for 70 years, so it's inspired very early on. 00:07:20.20\00:07:23.57 And our heritage goes 00:07:23.61\00:07:24.94 all the way back to Madison College, 00:07:24.97\00:07:26.51 where it was starting with this idea 00:07:26.54\00:07:29.21 of being self-supporting. 00:07:29.24\00:07:30.58 So the ministries would find ways actually to, you know, 00:07:30.61\00:07:34.32 earn their living through the ministry 00:07:34.35\00:07:37.05 and then it could be expanded 00:07:37.09\00:07:38.89 without creating that dependency. 00:07:38.92\00:07:40.89 But then we also have ministries that, you know, 00:07:40.92\00:07:43.36 can apply and get funding to help get wings. 00:07:43.39\00:07:46.43 And that's been a blessing for many different ministries, 00:07:46.46\00:07:49.50 including the one I lead. 00:07:49.53\00:07:50.87 Amen. 00:07:50.90\00:07:52.23 Yes, FARM STEW. 00:07:52.27\00:07:53.60 Yes, yes. Yeah. 00:07:53.64\00:07:54.97 But today I have my ASI hat on, so... 00:07:55.00\00:07:56.74 Absolutely. 00:07:56.77\00:07:58.11 So what's it like being president 00:07:58.14\00:07:59.47 of ASI Lake Union? 00:07:59.51\00:08:00.84 Well, I started in that role 00:08:00.88\00:08:02.81 actually about a month before things shut down. 00:08:02.84\00:08:04.65 Okay. 00:08:04.68\00:08:06.01 So we've really pivoted as an organization to see 00:08:06.05\00:08:08.88 how we can serve people now. 00:08:08.92\00:08:11.45 And I will say, 00:08:11.49\00:08:12.89 ASI has never been better, honestly, 00:08:12.92\00:08:16.02 every Thursday night we have what's called ASI hour 00:08:16.06\00:08:19.06 and a lot of the experts and business leaders will go on 00:08:19.09\00:08:22.63 and share their techniques and stories. 00:08:22.66\00:08:25.20 And it's just, it's very encouraging, 00:08:25.23\00:08:26.90 especially for people 00:08:26.94\00:08:28.27 working from home to just connect. 00:08:28.30\00:08:30.61 And so I encourage people to check that out, 00:08:30.64\00:08:32.81 asiministries.org. 00:08:32.84\00:08:34.34 And then as a chapter, 00:08:34.38\00:08:36.21 we decided we would come and partner 00:08:36.24\00:08:38.75 with the national organization. 00:08:38.78\00:08:40.12 We did a spring meeting here last year at 3ABN, 00:08:40.15\00:08:43.99 thanks to the leadership here. 00:08:44.02\00:08:45.75 But then this year we are here launching 00:08:45.79\00:08:49.19 our virtual fellowship, 00:08:49.22\00:08:50.56 which will take place mid-April. 00:08:50.59\00:08:52.26 And there's going to be more details about that 00:08:52.29\00:08:54.40 coming from our other guests. 00:08:54.43\00:08:55.96 Absolutely. 00:08:56.00\00:08:57.33 And let's hear from our program chair, 00:08:57.37\00:08:59.27 Debbie Young kind of what her role entails. 00:08:59.30\00:09:03.17 Perfect. 00:09:03.20\00:09:04.54 Debbie, what's your role entail as program chair? 00:09:04.57\00:09:07.88 Well, I've had the pleasure of being able to lead 00:09:09.44\00:09:12.81 the development of the program for the last few years. 00:09:12.85\00:09:17.82 And so it really is working with the team to decide 00:09:17.85\00:09:22.82 on what our theme is gonna be, 00:09:22.86\00:09:24.33 what speakers we want to showcase, 00:09:24.36\00:09:28.36 what projects do we wanna highlight. 00:09:28.40\00:09:30.77 And so it's just putting all the pieces together 00:09:30.80\00:09:33.03 for the program. 00:09:33.07\00:09:34.40 So it's actually a wonderful experience to have. 00:09:34.44\00:09:37.61 Amen. It sounds like that's a lot of moving parts too. 00:09:37.64\00:09:41.91 Yeah. 00:09:41.94\00:09:43.28 It can be, especially now as we're looking to host 00:09:43.31\00:09:46.88 our first virtual spring fellowship. 00:09:46.92\00:09:49.85 It's taking us on territory, 00:09:49.88\00:09:51.92 in territory that we've never had before. 00:09:51.95\00:09:54.29 Amen. 00:09:54.32\00:09:55.66 Now, Gianluca, talk to us 00:09:55.69\00:09:58.19 about being a board member of ASI, like union. 00:09:58.23\00:10:01.70 What made you, or what inspired you 00:10:01.73\00:10:03.30 to get involved with ASI? 00:10:03.33\00:10:06.03 Sure. 00:10:06.07\00:10:07.40 You know, I come to ASI from probably 00:10:07.44\00:10:10.27 a slightly different perspective 00:10:10.31\00:10:11.81 because you know, 00:10:11.84\00:10:13.17 a lot of the people that have been involved 00:10:13.21\00:10:14.54 in the ASI over the years have been people 00:10:14.58\00:10:16.41 who have either ministries 00:10:16.44\00:10:17.78 or they have their own businesses, 00:10:17.81\00:10:19.68 or are somehow, you know, 00:10:19.71\00:10:22.75 have been focused on how they can actually 00:10:22.78\00:10:26.65 use evangelism in their own, 00:10:26.69\00:10:29.72 very own business or ministry. 00:10:29.76\00:10:31.39 I'm actually an international finance lawyer. 00:10:31.43\00:10:35.16 And it's part of a law firm. 00:10:35.20\00:10:37.60 You know, it's not my own business. 00:10:37.63\00:10:39.50 It's part of a much larger organization, 00:10:39.53\00:10:42.07 but I knew that what ASI offered 00:10:42.10\00:10:45.84 as far as that focus on evangelism, 00:10:45.87\00:10:48.18 being able to reach out to people, you know, 00:10:48.21\00:10:51.51 in ways that I couldn't do on my own 00:10:51.55\00:10:53.78 and to be able to be inspired 00:10:53.82\00:10:55.18 and how to share Jesus in the marketplace, 00:10:55.22\00:10:58.39 you know, in my own business. 00:10:58.42\00:11:00.32 And so I knew I had to be involved 00:11:00.36\00:11:02.92 and there was a board member 00:11:02.96\00:11:04.63 that said basically Gianluca, you're on the board. 00:11:04.66\00:11:07.80 And just like, I didn't have a choice. 00:11:07.83\00:11:10.97 And I tell you, 00:11:11.00\00:11:13.07 it's been a fantastic experience 00:11:13.10\00:11:15.20 working on the board 00:11:15.24\00:11:16.57 and working with Debbie and others Joy 00:11:16.60\00:11:19.17 to also to help plan these types of events 00:11:19.21\00:11:21.31 like the spring fellowship, which, you know, 00:11:21.34\00:11:23.95 we believe is just a phenomenal event each year 00:11:23.98\00:11:26.95 to bring people 00:11:26.98\00:11:28.32 from the Lake Union Chapter together 00:11:28.35\00:11:29.95 to inspire each other, 00:11:29.98\00:11:31.45 to figure out what ministries 00:11:31.49\00:11:33.15 we wanna focus on for the next year. 00:11:33.19\00:11:35.76 And so for me, 00:11:35.79\00:11:37.46 it's really been an honor and a privilege 00:11:37.49\00:11:39.13 to be able to work 00:11:39.16\00:11:40.50 with all of these wonderful people 00:11:40.53\00:11:41.86 and to be inspired by each other 00:11:41.90\00:11:44.00 as to how we can actually share Jesus 00:11:44.03\00:11:46.23 in our marketplaces. 00:11:46.27\00:11:47.60 Amen. Amen. 00:11:47.64\00:11:49.64 Christopher, what's it like being the VP for evangelism 00:11:49.67\00:11:54.61 'cause that's a huge element within ASI? 00:11:54.64\00:11:59.55 True. 00:11:59.58\00:12:01.28 In many cases we've taken that evangelistic approach 00:12:01.32\00:12:04.55 to work on mission trips and ministry projects. 00:12:04.59\00:12:08.86 We've built schools and churches in the States, 00:12:08.89\00:12:13.86 as well as in Central America and in the islands. 00:12:13.90\00:12:17.90 My connection to ASI is as CEO of Randall Residents, 00:12:17.93\00:12:21.74 it's a family owned business 00:12:21.77\00:12:23.37 where I lead a group of about 00:12:23.41\00:12:25.77 a thousand associates to create a remarkable living experience 00:12:25.81\00:12:30.11 for seniors across the Great Lakes Region. 00:12:30.15\00:12:32.25 Our legacy of caring for seniors 00:12:32.28\00:12:35.22 is multi-generational. 00:12:35.25\00:12:36.62 My grandmother built the first purpose-built nursing home 00:12:36.65\00:12:39.39 in the state of Michigan back in the late 1940s 00:12:39.42\00:12:41.72 and attended 00:12:41.76\00:12:43.09 her first ASI Convention in 1951. 00:12:43.12\00:12:46.70 My parents had been active in ASI since the late 1970s 00:12:46.73\00:12:50.77 and my wife and I continued to support this organization 00:12:50.80\00:12:54.70 that I essentially grew up in. 00:12:54.74\00:12:58.24 Wow. 00:12:58.27\00:12:59.61 So yeah, it truly is a legacy for sure. 00:12:59.64\00:13:03.28 So how has ASI 00:13:03.31\00:13:05.58 and I want to throw this out to everyone. 00:13:05.61\00:13:07.18 How has ASI impacted or influenced your work, 00:13:07.22\00:13:11.39 family and ministry? 00:13:11.42\00:13:13.49 Well, I'll start here in the studio. 00:13:13.52\00:13:15.96 For me, it's just been such a blessing, 00:13:15.99\00:13:18.99 I mentioned it's being given wings. 00:13:19.03\00:13:21.20 And honestly, 00:13:21.23\00:13:22.56 ASI has done that 00:13:22.60\00:13:23.93 through the mentorship of people, 00:13:23.97\00:13:25.30 who've gone before me 00:13:25.33\00:13:26.67 through the business partnerships 00:13:26.70\00:13:28.54 and donors that have said, 00:13:28.57\00:13:30.74 "Hey, you know, 00:13:30.77\00:13:32.11 if ASI gives you this stamp of approval, 00:13:32.14\00:13:34.08 it's a legitimate ministry." 00:13:34.11\00:13:36.08 And so, you know, 00:13:36.11\00:13:37.45 for you that are listening, 00:13:37.48\00:13:38.81 whether you are just starting 00:13:38.85\00:13:40.35 in your first job, maybe you're a student, 00:13:40.38\00:13:42.12 maybe you own a business, that's, 00:13:42.15\00:13:44.79 multi-generational like Chris or somewhere in between. 00:13:44.82\00:13:48.29 Maybe you're just starting a ministry 00:13:48.32\00:13:50.13 or maybe you've been at it for years. 00:13:50.16\00:13:51.59 ASI is for you. 00:13:51.63\00:13:52.96 And so we really want to get you involved 00:13:52.99\00:13:55.50 and we're here from the Lake Union Chapter, 00:13:55.53\00:13:57.77 but there's chapters all across the country. 00:13:57.80\00:13:59.73 We want you to be involved in ASI 00:13:59.77\00:14:01.84 and to have the benefits of being part of a family, 00:14:01.87\00:14:04.57 and who knows it may give you wings too. 00:14:04.61\00:14:06.84 Amen. Amen. 00:14:06.88\00:14:09.28 Debbie, how has ASI impacted your life? 00:14:09.31\00:14:12.81 Oh, it's had a tremendous influence 00:14:12.85\00:14:15.38 on my thinking about work in ministry 00:14:15.42\00:14:18.25 that they're not work and ministry separate, 00:14:18.29\00:14:21.79 but really work in ministry 00:14:21.82\00:14:23.26 as hand in glove working together. 00:14:23.29\00:14:25.33 And my husband and I have been truly blessed. 00:14:25.36\00:14:28.50 I've been blessed to be able 00:14:28.53\00:14:30.63 to be the president of the ASI National 00:14:30.67\00:14:33.30 and to be able to actually connect 00:14:33.34\00:14:35.70 with a number of the different ministries 00:14:35.74\00:14:37.91 and organizations and meet people 00:14:37.94\00:14:40.81 who are really passionate about sharing Christ 00:14:40.84\00:14:43.14 in their marketplace has done a lot 00:14:43.18\00:14:45.48 to steer my perspective in looking at well, 00:14:45.51\00:14:49.45 what can I do more to share Jesus where I am? 00:14:49.48\00:14:53.05 I'm a nurse by education 00:14:53.09\00:14:54.79 and I actually work in an oncology area 00:14:54.82\00:14:57.76 and it's been a blessing to be able to find 00:14:57.79\00:15:00.23 and take advantage of opportunities 00:15:00.26\00:15:02.20 to share Christ in new and different ways. 00:15:02.23\00:15:04.70 Praying with patients, 00:15:04.73\00:15:06.57 offering them some of what I might 00:15:06.60\00:15:09.77 have experienced personally, 00:15:09.80\00:15:11.24 that might be a benefit to them. 00:15:11.27\00:15:12.81 So it really has kind of restructured my thinking 00:15:12.84\00:15:17.01 about what I do not just at home or even at work, 00:15:17.05\00:15:22.22 but as I go from place to place. 00:15:22.25\00:15:25.05 Okay. 00:15:25.09\00:15:26.52 Now, would you say that it's also helped 00:15:26.55\00:15:29.56 to strengthen your faith as well? 00:15:29.59\00:15:31.93 Oh, absolutely. 00:15:31.96\00:15:33.40 Absolutely. 00:15:33.43\00:15:34.76 The different stories that you hear from individuals 00:15:35.76\00:15:39.57 who are sharing at ASI Conventions 00:15:39.60\00:15:42.84 or that I've gotten to know 00:15:42.87\00:15:45.47 to see how God has worked in their lives, 00:15:45.51\00:15:47.54 tells me that God can work in my life the same way. 00:15:47.58\00:15:50.81 And so, it has actually encouraged me to reach further 00:15:50.85\00:15:55.55 and to ask God for bigger things to do, 00:15:55.58\00:15:58.75 and to be able to lean on Him with a stronger faith 00:15:58.79\00:16:02.32 as a result of what I've experienced 00:16:02.36\00:16:04.53 and what I've witnessed in others. 00:16:04.56\00:16:06.33 Amen. 00:16:06.36\00:16:07.70 Christopher, how has ASI impacted your life? 00:16:07.73\00:16:11.67 I know we know the legacy that's there, 00:16:11.70\00:16:14.67 the rich legacy that's there, 00:16:14.70\00:16:16.04 but how has it impacted your life and your faith? 00:16:16.07\00:16:19.97 You know, ASI encourages and challenges me 00:16:20.01\00:16:24.78 to find ways to share Christ through my sphere of influence. 00:16:24.81\00:16:29.85 And that can be as simple as my interactions 00:16:29.88\00:16:32.59 with residents and coworkers, business associates, 00:16:32.62\00:16:36.16 over the years that's prompted colleagues 00:16:36.19\00:16:38.63 to pursue helpful living 00:16:38.66\00:16:41.56 and attend the CHIP program with Han Steel. 00:16:41.60\00:16:45.53 Some have attended church with us. 00:16:45.57\00:16:47.14 Others have request Bible studies. 00:16:47.17\00:16:50.67 A few years ago, 00:16:50.71\00:16:52.04 my father wrote an article in a industry publication 00:16:52.07\00:16:55.64 that talked about fighting burnout, 00:16:55.68\00:16:58.81 and how a weekly Sabbath 00:16:58.85\00:17:01.52 is an important part 00:17:01.55\00:17:03.15 of our physical and spiritual health. 00:17:03.18\00:17:06.05 And that has prompted 00:17:06.09\00:17:08.06 applicants for our leadership positions to say, 00:17:08.09\00:17:12.26 I want to learn more about your Sabbath 00:17:12.29\00:17:14.16 or, you know, 00:17:14.20\00:17:15.60 I want to work for an organization 00:17:15.63\00:17:17.67 that holds those kinds of values. 00:17:17.70\00:17:19.67 Yes. 00:17:19.70\00:17:21.07 That's awesome. 00:17:21.10\00:17:22.77 Gianluca, how have you been impacted 00:17:22.80\00:17:26.34 both in your faith 00:17:26.37\00:17:27.71 and your family's life with the ASI Lake Union? 00:17:27.74\00:17:33.98 Yep. 00:17:34.02\00:17:35.35 You know as I was mentioning earlier, 00:17:35.38\00:17:37.89 you know, because of the type of business, 00:17:37.92\00:17:40.46 excuse me that I'm in, now, 00:17:40.49\00:17:42.92 it's actually have a kind of like an odd arrangement 00:17:42.96\00:17:45.66 where my family lives in Michigan 00:17:45.69\00:17:48.46 in St. Joseph very close to Berrien Springs, Michigan. 00:17:48.50\00:17:51.33 And I actually, my office is in New York City. 00:17:51.37\00:17:53.47 So I have to commute back and forth. 00:17:53.50\00:17:55.67 And so, the way I have been thinking about ministry 00:17:55.70\00:17:59.64 and the way ASI has helped me shape 00:17:59.67\00:18:01.24 my thinking around ministry is that on one hand, 00:18:01.28\00:18:04.81 I want to be involved in 00:18:04.85\00:18:06.85 supporting other people's ministries. 00:18:06.88\00:18:08.95 People, you know, 00:18:08.98\00:18:10.32 like Joy with her FARM STEW 00:18:10.35\00:18:11.79 and there's many other ministries 00:18:11.82\00:18:13.36 that are part of the Lake Union. 00:18:13.39\00:18:16.32 And we just believe that, you know, 00:18:16.36\00:18:18.43 supporting ministries is an important part 00:18:18.46\00:18:21.23 of our own spiritual walk. 00:18:21.26\00:18:23.33 And we're just so thrilled when we see the developments 00:18:23.37\00:18:26.77 and things that are going on. 00:18:26.80\00:18:28.14 We can see how God is working in multiple people's lives 00:18:28.17\00:18:31.27 through these ministries. 00:18:31.31\00:18:32.64 And then on the other hand, when I am actually, you know, 00:18:32.67\00:18:36.61 in New York when I'm in the office, 00:18:36.64\00:18:39.31 or if I'm traveling, 00:18:39.35\00:18:40.68 'cause I have to do a lot of travel for my work. 00:18:40.72\00:18:42.95 You know, it challenges me to think about like, 00:18:42.98\00:18:45.79 what ways can I introduce people to Jesus? 00:18:45.82\00:18:48.92 And for me, 00:18:48.96\00:18:50.46 one of the biggest ways I've been able 00:18:50.49\00:18:53.13 to introduce people to Jesus is through the Sabbath. 00:18:53.16\00:18:55.96 You know, I work in what I'd call a 24/7 culture. 00:18:56.00\00:18:59.60 And so for people to see you working 00:18:59.63\00:19:01.50 24/6 instead of 24/7, 00:19:01.54\00:19:03.97 it always brings up that, that conversation about, well, 00:19:04.01\00:19:08.54 why are you taking a Sabbath off? 00:19:08.58\00:19:10.15 And so, and I really try to encourage people, 00:19:10.18\00:19:13.95 whether, you know, 00:19:13.98\00:19:15.32 they want to become a Seventh-day Adventist or not. 00:19:15.35\00:19:17.65 I said, take a day off, 00:19:17.69\00:19:19.35 you know, take, you know, 00:19:19.39\00:19:20.72 try to whether you want to take Saturday off, 00:19:20.76\00:19:22.42 which is the day I believe is the Sabbath or Sunday, 00:19:22.46\00:19:25.06 you know, try to take time off, 00:19:25.09\00:19:26.80 try to be with your family. 00:19:26.83\00:19:28.23 And so I try to instill what I call healthy principles 00:19:28.26\00:19:32.37 in as far as living how to live with your family, 00:19:32.40\00:19:35.60 how to prioritize things in your life. 00:19:35.64\00:19:39.57 Things like health and nutrition and exercise. 00:19:39.61\00:19:44.61 You know, I'm an avid triathlete 00:19:44.65\00:19:47.08 and marathoner. 00:19:47.12\00:19:48.45 And so in the office, 00:19:48.48\00:19:50.05 I even have a standing treadmill desk 00:19:50.09\00:19:51.85 that I walk and work at the same time. 00:19:51.89\00:19:54.79 And that's why I try to really always, you know, 00:19:54.82\00:19:57.43 focus on the health message. 00:19:57.46\00:19:58.79 Trying to get people, you know, to get, you know, 00:19:58.83\00:20:01.50 to think about life as a holistic, you know, 00:20:01.53\00:20:05.07 to think like holistically and not just, you know, 00:20:05.10\00:20:08.07 compartmentalize. 00:20:08.10\00:20:09.44 And so, 00:20:09.47\00:20:10.81 ASI has really challenged me to both, you know, 00:20:10.84\00:20:12.97 focus on how to support other ministries, 00:20:13.01\00:20:15.08 but yet also how to live out, you know, 00:20:15.11\00:20:17.05 my belief in ways that can bring people to Jesus 00:20:17.08\00:20:20.72 who are really 00:20:20.75\00:20:22.08 in what I would consider to be a very secular world. 00:20:22.12\00:20:24.65 Wow. 00:20:24.69\00:20:26.02 That, so basically rest is unheard of 00:20:26.05\00:20:28.82 in your industry pretty much. 00:20:28.86\00:20:31.43 And... It is brutal. 00:20:31.46\00:20:34.13 Yes. 00:20:34.16\00:20:35.50 You're challenging me to rethink my time management 00:20:35.53\00:20:38.60 methods with walking and working. 00:20:38.63\00:20:40.20 I'll have to get my life together... 00:20:40.24\00:20:44.04 for sure. 00:20:44.07\00:20:45.41 Well, just so you know, 00:20:45.44\00:20:46.78 I'm actually sitting now for the first time today, 00:20:46.81\00:20:48.44 you know, like I've standing, 00:20:48.48\00:20:50.21 you know, working the whole day, 00:20:50.25\00:20:51.58 this is the first time I'm actually sitting down. 00:20:51.61\00:20:53.85 But yeah, I mean, that's just the thing 00:20:53.88\00:20:55.82 is that if you can combine 00:20:55.85\00:20:57.85 healthy principles and, you know, 00:20:57.89\00:21:00.39 use them throughout your day, you know, 00:21:00.42\00:21:01.89 it's when you start in the morning 00:21:01.92\00:21:04.03 with your morning worship 00:21:04.06\00:21:05.73 and your morning exercise and starting your day 00:21:05.76\00:21:08.46 with proper nutrition and being active throughout the 00:21:08.50\00:21:11.63 day, there's a cascading effect of all these things. 00:21:11.67\00:21:14.14 And people notice it, you know, 00:21:14.17\00:21:15.90 when I'm out about in the office 00:21:15.94\00:21:18.94 or traveling and I'm meeting other people, you know, 00:21:18.97\00:21:21.84 they can absolutely notice a difference 00:21:21.88\00:21:24.15 and they will ask you a lot of questions. 00:21:24.18\00:21:26.25 And so I truly believe the best thing we can do 00:21:26.28\00:21:29.55 when we're in a, 00:21:29.58\00:21:31.42 more of a secular environment 00:21:31.45\00:21:32.79 is to really live out our faith, 00:21:32.82\00:21:34.86 you know, in the little things, 00:21:34.89\00:21:36.49 because people will notice those things 00:21:36.52\00:21:38.13 and they will create opportunities to discuss Jesus. 00:21:38.16\00:21:40.80 Amen. 00:21:40.83\00:21:42.16 It opens the door, that's for sure. 00:21:42.20\00:21:44.60 Chris, why don't you speak to us about mission activities? 00:21:44.63\00:21:47.77 Sure. 00:21:47.80\00:21:49.14 You know, ASI provides opportunity for us 00:21:49.17\00:21:52.61 to come together, pool 00:21:52.64\00:21:54.54 our resources and accomplish 00:21:54.58\00:21:57.11 more as a group than we can do individually. 00:21:57.15\00:21:59.81 Gianluca talked some about sponsoring other ministries, 00:21:59.85\00:22:04.95 but we've also been very good at choosing 00:22:04.99\00:22:08.96 our own mission projects to go on as a group. 00:22:08.99\00:22:12.53 We've done church building in Wisconsin and Illinois. 00:22:12.56\00:22:17.27 We've built a cabin at Camp Au Sable in Michigan, 00:22:17.30\00:22:20.04 and we've taken construction projects, 00:22:20.07\00:22:24.47 medical clinics and evangelistic programs 00:22:24.51\00:22:27.58 or VBS programs to Honduras and Cuba, 00:22:27.61\00:22:31.25 Dominican Republic, Panama. 00:22:31.28\00:22:34.92 We look for times or opportunities 00:22:34.95\00:22:37.09 where we can take skilled labor and unskilled labor, 00:22:37.12\00:22:41.06 the very young and the very old, 00:22:41.09\00:22:43.32 the foreign travelers and the local natives. 00:22:43.36\00:22:46.59 And we can work side by side in accomplishing 00:22:46.63\00:22:49.73 and furthering, furthering God's work. 00:22:49.76\00:22:53.60 One project that really caught our hearts 00:22:53.64\00:22:56.74 and we returned to multiple years in a row 00:22:56.77\00:23:00.14 was Las Palmas Orphanage in Dominican Republic. 00:23:00.18\00:23:05.18 Can I tell you a miracle story here? 00:23:05.21\00:23:07.08 Oh, yeah. Please do. 00:23:07.12\00:23:09.68 One particular year our main project 00:23:09.72\00:23:13.05 was waterproofing the roofs of these buildings. 00:23:13.09\00:23:17.23 You can imagine if you're running 00:23:17.26\00:23:19.19 a school and caring 00:23:19.23\00:23:20.56 for orphaned children 00:23:20.60\00:23:23.00 to have water come through the roof 00:23:23.03\00:23:25.27 is certainly not a sustainable situation. 00:23:25.30\00:23:29.24 We identified the best product to use and quickly realized 00:23:29.27\00:23:33.74 that we really could only afford. 00:23:33.78\00:23:35.58 We only had the funds to do one building. 00:23:35.61\00:23:39.25 After prayer, 00:23:39.28\00:23:41.22 the distributor 00:23:41.25\00:23:42.85 involved the manufacturer of the product, 00:23:42.88\00:23:45.92 and they decided to make this a demonstration site. 00:23:45.95\00:23:48.79 And we ended up with two or three times 00:23:48.82\00:23:51.09 the amount of material 00:23:51.13\00:23:52.46 that we could actually afford for this project. 00:23:52.49\00:23:54.56 Wow. 00:23:54.60\00:23:55.93 Then on the day of delivery 00:23:55.96\00:23:57.63 there was a nationwide strike 00:23:57.67\00:23:59.03 of the delivery companies, and we again, had to pray, 00:23:59.07\00:24:02.90 how are we going to get the materials 00:24:02.94\00:24:04.34 to accomplish our project? 00:24:04.37\00:24:06.88 And the distributor found some drivers 00:24:06.91\00:24:11.45 that knew of our work and wanted to be supportive 00:24:11.48\00:24:15.55 and found a way to get the product to us, 00:24:15.58\00:24:18.52 so that we could start waterproofing these homes. 00:24:18.55\00:24:21.79 And then at the end of the week, 00:24:21.82\00:24:23.53 as we're trying to finish the project to make sure 00:24:23.56\00:24:26.19 we have this complete, 00:24:26.23\00:24:28.50 we see the storms come in and, you know, 00:24:28.53\00:24:31.37 sitting on a roof, 00:24:31.40\00:24:32.73 trying to do use a water sealer 00:24:32.77\00:24:35.24 is not gonna be productive when it's raining and storming. 00:24:35.27\00:24:39.84 So again, we prayed, 00:24:39.87\00:24:41.21 we had a season of prayer on the roof 00:24:41.24\00:24:43.38 and watch the storms on radar and in the sky bypass us. 00:24:43.41\00:24:49.18 And we're able to complete the work. 00:24:49.22\00:24:51.95 It's just when you put yourself out there like that, 00:24:51.99\00:24:56.06 and are fully at the mercy of God and His influence, 00:24:56.09\00:25:01.33 it's amazing to see how He does work. 00:25:01.36\00:25:02.86 Yes. Amen. 00:25:02.90\00:25:04.50 Yes, it's like exercising 00:25:04.53\00:25:06.17 your faith muscles too, you know, 00:25:06.20\00:25:08.24 with that prayer and seeing the results 00:25:08.27\00:25:11.64 and just God opened incredible doors, 00:25:11.67\00:25:14.28 that's truly a miraculous story. 00:25:14.31\00:25:17.41 Joy, I want to come to you. 00:25:17.45\00:25:19.78 And just talk to us a little bit 00:25:19.81\00:25:21.65 about the annual spring fellowship convocations. 00:25:21.68\00:25:25.39 Sounds good. 00:25:25.42\00:25:26.76 I would love to talk about the spring fellowship, 00:25:26.79\00:25:28.26 but I just have to pick up on something that Chris said. 00:25:28.29\00:25:30.49 They talked about building churches 00:25:30.53\00:25:32.19 and he mentioned Illinois. 00:25:32.23\00:25:33.66 And I showed up for my first ever ASI in 2017. 00:25:33.70\00:25:37.63 I was a fairly new convert 00:25:37.67\00:25:39.10 to the Seventh-day Adventist Church. 00:25:39.13\00:25:41.64 And after introducing myself, I said, 00:25:41.67\00:25:44.01 I was part of the Princeton Seventh-day Adventist Church. 00:25:44.04\00:25:46.31 And actually Chris' father 00:25:46.34\00:25:49.04 and many others in the room 00:25:49.08\00:25:50.71 were involved in actually building that church. 00:25:50.75\00:25:53.31 And it was one that I had stepped a toe in close 00:25:53.35\00:25:56.32 to 11 years ago now for the first time 00:25:56.35\00:25:59.12 ever going into a Seventh-day Adventist Church 00:25:59.15\00:26:01.02 for a cooking class. 00:26:01.06\00:26:02.39 And that was my entree. 00:26:02.42\00:26:04.03 So when I realized ASI had actually built the church 00:26:04.06\00:26:07.03 that you know I was brought into 00:26:07.06\00:26:10.13 and discipled, I was, 00:26:10.17\00:26:11.50 I felt like I was already an ASI member for life. 00:26:11.53\00:26:13.87 Amen. 00:26:13.90\00:26:15.24 So you had multiple connections with the ASI? 00:26:15.27\00:26:17.07 Exactly. 00:26:17.11\00:26:18.44 God was planning ahead, way ahead. 00:26:18.47\00:26:19.81 So anyway, 00:26:19.84\00:26:21.18 but the spring fellowship you know, 00:26:21.21\00:26:23.11 in our good old days, we used to get together. 00:26:23.14\00:26:25.88 And I think we have a couple of pictures from, 00:26:25.91\00:26:27.95 you know, our ASI family of friends 00:26:27.98\00:26:29.95 getting together physically, 00:26:29.98\00:26:31.99 and hopefully they'll pull up that picture. 00:26:32.02\00:26:34.39 Yeah, we've had a lot of fun with our spring fellowships 00:26:34.42\00:26:37.43 and that's some of the folks on our leadership team, 00:26:37.46\00:26:39.93 Julia O'Carey with ASAP, Tom Morrissey, 00:26:39.96\00:26:42.70 our former president and his daughter, Kathleen, 00:26:42.73\00:26:44.67 who's now in charge of communications, 00:26:44.70\00:26:47.10 Patty Ella Ventura with Outpost Centers. 00:26:47.14\00:26:50.57 I'm sorry with O Caimen. 00:26:50.61\00:26:52.24 So anyway, we have a great team, 00:26:52.27\00:26:54.04 had a lot of fun. 00:26:54.08\00:26:55.41 We'd hear great presentations and everything, 00:26:55.44\00:26:57.05 but now of course we're going virtual. 00:26:57.08\00:26:59.65 So this year, 00:26:59.68\00:27:01.28 the theme that Debbie came up with her committee 00:27:01.32\00:27:04.02 is faith not fear. 00:27:04.05\00:27:06.55 Oh, I like that. 00:27:06.59\00:27:07.92 And it's perfect because, of course, 00:27:07.96\00:27:09.62 a lot of people actually are struggling 00:27:09.66\00:27:10.99 with their mental health and, you know, 00:27:11.03\00:27:12.93 really wrestling with the fears around COVID 00:27:12.96\00:27:15.43 and the economy and, you know, 00:27:15.46\00:27:17.20 last day's events and everything, 00:27:17.23\00:27:18.70 but we don't have to cower in fear. 00:27:18.73\00:27:21.17 We can be strong in faith. 00:27:21.20\00:27:23.17 And so, we also are taking that theme 00:27:23.20\00:27:25.41 and moving it into what are the practical things 00:27:25.44\00:27:27.68 we can do from a health message 00:27:27.71\00:27:31.28 to prevent ourselves from, 00:27:31.31\00:27:33.75 you know, having the worst consequences. 00:27:33.78\00:27:35.45 And so I think I'll maybe hand it over to Debbie 00:27:35.48\00:27:38.59 to add more about the details. 00:27:38.62\00:27:40.76 Yes. 00:27:40.79\00:27:42.12 So yeah. 00:27:42.16\00:27:43.49 The theme that we've come up with it wasn't something 00:27:43.53\00:27:46.23 that we had to ponder very long 00:27:46.26\00:27:48.93 with the kind of uncertain times 00:27:48.96\00:27:51.10 that we're living in. 00:27:51.13\00:27:52.47 We recognize that what really we needed 00:27:52.50\00:27:55.77 to put our anchor in was our faith in God. 00:27:55.80\00:27:58.47 And with the different challenges to our health, 00:27:58.51\00:28:03.81 especially with COVID. 00:28:03.85\00:28:05.18 We knew that there were a number of people 00:28:05.21\00:28:07.75 that were in our society, people that we were, 00:28:07.78\00:28:11.55 would connect with were afraid 00:28:11.59\00:28:13.82 and didn't know what to do and where to turn. 00:28:13.86\00:28:17.63 And we know where to turn. 00:28:17.66\00:28:19.16 We know that God has everything in control, 00:28:19.19\00:28:21.40 and we thought that it would be really important 00:28:21.43\00:28:23.63 to emphasize that God wants us to be healthy, 00:28:23.67\00:28:28.57 so that we can respond to His leading and His biddings 00:28:28.60\00:28:31.94 and to fulfill His purpose for our lives. 00:28:31.97\00:28:35.28 So the faith not fear came with two anchor point texts. 00:28:35.31\00:28:41.55 One was Hebrews 11:6, 00:28:41.58\00:28:45.45 "Without faith, 00:28:45.49\00:28:46.82 it is impossible to please God." 00:28:46.86\00:28:48.69 And one in Exodus, 15:26 that essentially says, 00:28:48.72\00:28:52.59 "If you do all that I have asked you to do, 00:28:52.63\00:28:56.36 if you are diligent in following my statutes, 00:28:56.40\00:28:58.97 I will put none of these diseases on you." 00:28:59.00\00:29:01.57 So there is a work 00:29:01.60\00:29:03.10 that we can do to optimize our health. 00:29:03.14\00:29:06.27 And so we wanna be able to pass that information 00:29:06.31\00:29:08.64 on to people who will come to the convention 00:29:08.68\00:29:11.08 and also to encourage them that as they do their part, 00:29:11.11\00:29:15.55 God will do His part. 00:29:15.58\00:29:17.29 And so we want to encourage their faith to grow 00:29:17.32\00:29:20.46 and to hold onto Jesus. 00:29:20.49\00:29:22.19 I'm looking forward to this convention here. 00:29:22.22\00:29:26.06 Debbie, why don't you speak to us a little bit about 00:29:26.09\00:29:28.86 maybe some ministries that have been or projects 00:29:28.90\00:29:31.83 that have been supported in the past? 00:29:31.87\00:29:34.17 Sure. 00:29:34.20\00:29:35.54 So in addition to what we've done 00:29:35.57\00:29:37.34 with mission trips, 00:29:37.37\00:29:38.71 going overseas 00:29:38.74\00:29:40.08 in different parts of the country, 00:29:40.11\00:29:41.58 we also provide support for ministries 00:29:41.61\00:29:45.45 that will provide an application 00:29:45.48\00:29:49.58 and ask for some assistance, 00:29:49.62\00:29:51.35 so that they can grow their ministries. 00:29:51.39\00:29:53.42 And so they can enlarge their reach. 00:29:53.46\00:29:55.62 So in the past, for instance, 00:29:55.66\00:29:57.73 we've provided support to Harbor of Hope. 00:29:57.76\00:30:02.10 It's a church actually located in Benton Harbor, Michigan. 00:30:02.13\00:30:05.50 And Benton Harbor, 00:30:05.53\00:30:07.37 Michigan actually is a church that has, 00:30:07.40\00:30:10.41 I'm sorry, is a community 00:30:10.44\00:30:11.84 that's been in the national news 00:30:11.87\00:30:13.84 for one of the communities 00:30:13.88\00:30:15.21 that has a lot of societal challenges. 00:30:15.24\00:30:17.48 And so the Pastor Taurus Montgomery 00:30:17.51\00:30:20.32 and his church Harbor of Hope 00:30:20.35\00:30:22.32 there in Benton Harbor has really taken 00:30:22.35\00:30:24.02 to heart the commission to go 00:30:24.05\00:30:26.22 and to really meet the needs of the community. 00:30:26.25\00:30:29.39 And so that photo that you just saw 00:30:29.42\00:30:31.59 was a part of a health outreach that they were doing, 00:30:31.63\00:30:35.33 Rise Up is, was the challenge. 00:30:35.36\00:30:37.83 And he really is specifically looking to assist 00:30:37.87\00:30:41.70 and lift up and give support to the youth in that community. 00:30:41.74\00:30:45.67 So we're really happy to be able to provide support 00:30:45.71\00:30:48.64 for that project. 00:30:48.68\00:30:50.48 Of course, as you know, for FARM STEW, 00:30:50.51\00:30:53.95 Joy has lead that efforts 00:30:53.98\00:30:57.55 in different various countries 00:30:57.59\00:31:00.46 in on the continent of Africa. 00:31:00.49\00:31:02.62 And so we wanted to be able to provide support 00:31:02.66\00:31:05.09 for the continued outreach of that ministry 00:31:05.13\00:31:07.96 to teach people 00:31:08.00\00:31:09.40 how they can live and provide for their families. 00:31:09.43\00:31:14.84 Then ASAP is another one where that has provided support 00:31:14.87\00:31:21.04 for an individual 00:31:21.08\00:31:23.85 who has come over from another country 00:31:23.88\00:31:26.95 and is really wants to serve the refugees 00:31:26.98\00:31:31.15 that have come from other countries 00:31:31.19\00:31:33.22 seeking refuge here in the United States. 00:31:33.25\00:31:36.06 And he may be, he was a pastor that in his country, 00:31:36.09\00:31:40.60 but when he comes over here, 00:31:40.63\00:31:42.03 he may not be able to function as a pastor, 00:31:42.06\00:31:43.77 but he really is operating as a pastor to reach out 00:31:43.80\00:31:47.90 and to touch the lives of those refugees 00:31:47.94\00:31:50.71 that are here and are looking for support 00:31:50.74\00:31:54.21 and want to, you know, 00:31:54.24\00:31:57.55 increase or improve their faith in God. 00:31:57.58\00:32:00.65 So to be able to provide support for him 00:32:00.68\00:32:03.02 to be able to do that as he is also working 00:32:03.05\00:32:05.65 to support his family was something 00:32:05.69\00:32:07.46 that we felt was important. 00:32:07.49\00:32:09.02 Yes. 00:32:09.06\00:32:10.73 What are some things 00:32:10.76\00:32:12.09 that are taken into consideration? 00:32:12.13\00:32:13.70 And perhaps either, Debbie or Joy, 00:32:13.73\00:32:16.33 if you want to answer this. 00:32:16.36\00:32:17.70 What are some things 00:32:17.73\00:32:19.07 that are taken into consideration 00:32:19.10\00:32:20.44 when it comes to supporting ministries 00:32:20.47\00:32:23.34 that apply for funds? 00:32:23.37\00:32:25.67 Well, I'll take a stab at it. 00:32:25.71\00:32:27.44 Really, I think the impact for evangelism, 00:32:27.48\00:32:30.98 the kingdom impact is really important. 00:32:31.01\00:32:33.88 We also are looking for ministries 00:32:33.92\00:32:35.48 that are in our union. 00:32:35.52\00:32:36.85 So that includes Indiana, 00:32:36.89\00:32:38.59 Illinois, Wisconsin, and Michigan. 00:32:38.62\00:32:41.22 And like I said, 00:32:41.26\00:32:42.59 other unions have their own process as well. 00:32:42.62\00:32:45.16 And we really want to have something 00:32:45.19\00:32:47.56 where we can also make sure that they're accountable. 00:32:47.60\00:32:50.83 So we would do require a report to come in, 00:32:50.87\00:32:54.24 showing us how the funds were used 00:32:54.27\00:32:55.90 and how that impact was made. 00:32:55.94\00:32:57.61 Nice. 00:32:57.64\00:32:59.01 And what are some current projects 00:32:59.04\00:33:01.11 that are being supported? 00:33:01.14\00:33:02.48 Okay. 00:33:02.51\00:33:03.85 I think Chris is touching on that. 00:33:03.88\00:33:05.31 I know Care for Cuba is one that's worked, 00:33:05.35\00:33:09.05 we're supporting this year and Oak Haven Health 00:33:09.08\00:33:12.25 has a health ministry and we're supporting them 00:33:12.29\00:33:15.56 as they add to their exercise room and steam room, 00:33:15.59\00:33:20.40 so that they can do the hot and cold treatments 00:33:20.43\00:33:22.46 and continue their health ministry. 00:33:22.50\00:33:24.53 Yeah. 00:33:24.57\00:33:25.90 Nice, nice. 00:33:25.93\00:33:27.27 And, Debbie, you sounded like you were gonna say something 00:33:27.30\00:33:29.40 just a minute ago as well. 00:33:29.44\00:33:30.81 Yeah. 00:33:30.84\00:33:32.17 So yeah, a couple of the other projects, 00:33:32.21\00:33:33.68 just to add to those that Chris just listed 00:33:33.71\00:33:36.44 is Strong Tower Radio. 00:33:36.48\00:33:38.15 It's based in Cadillac, Michigan. 00:33:38.18\00:33:40.32 And so, we want to provide support, 00:33:40.35\00:33:41.82 so they can enlarge their ministry 00:33:41.85\00:33:43.49 by upgrading their equipment. 00:33:43.52\00:33:45.52 So as they share testimonies and messages, 00:33:45.55\00:33:50.83 it will be a blessing to those that they have been touching 00:33:50.86\00:33:54.10 lives for years already. 00:33:54.13\00:33:56.90 We also want to have, 00:33:56.93\00:33:59.37 we continue to provide support for FARM STEW, 00:33:59.40\00:34:02.80 for ASAP and for Harbor of Hope 00:34:02.84\00:34:06.34 and as was mentioned Oak Haven Health. 00:34:06.37\00:34:10.31 So we're looking and praying that God 00:34:10.35\00:34:12.98 will help us to be able to provide that support, 00:34:13.01\00:34:16.35 even though we can't meet together, 00:34:16.38\00:34:18.62 we can hold the hands up of ministries that are out 00:34:18.65\00:34:22.12 there serving others and trying to give the gospel of peace 00:34:22.16\00:34:26.23 and Jesus' soon coming. 00:34:26.26\00:34:28.23 Amen. 00:34:28.26\00:34:29.63 You know, as we speak about the messages, 00:34:29.66\00:34:31.70 I think we should go to Gianluca and find out 00:34:31.73\00:34:34.57 about the speaker line up. 00:34:34.60\00:34:35.94 Absolutely. 00:34:36.97\00:34:38.54 So this is amazing because, you know, 00:34:38.57\00:34:42.24 if we were to do this in person, 00:34:42.28\00:34:43.81 we would, I don't think we could pull this off. 00:34:43.85\00:34:46.35 So this is one of the benefits of this virtual time 00:34:46.38\00:34:49.72 that we're living in right now that we can actually 00:34:49.75\00:34:52.65 bring in some just amazing speakers 00:34:52.69\00:34:55.39 that can touch on a number of different topics. 00:34:55.42\00:34:57.89 And so we're super excited about the lineup 00:34:57.93\00:35:00.20 of speakers that we have. 00:35:00.23\00:35:02.00 So kicking off on Friday evening, 00:35:02.03\00:35:04.90 typically on Friday evening, we will have a speaker 00:35:04.93\00:35:08.34 that will kind of open up the weekend. 00:35:08.37\00:35:10.64 And this year we're gonna have, 00:35:10.67\00:35:12.74 you guys may know him by the name, 00:35:12.77\00:35:15.41 Chef Chew or Chef Chew, 00:35:15.44\00:35:17.61 GW Chew. 00:35:17.65\00:35:18.98 Yes. 00:35:19.01\00:35:20.35 Who I think has been on your Dare to Dream program 00:35:20.38\00:35:22.35 before in the past. 00:35:22.38\00:35:23.75 Yes. Absolutely, Chew's challenge. 00:35:23.79\00:35:25.99 Yeah. 00:35:26.02\00:35:27.36 He's an, you know, has an amazing story 00:35:27.39\00:35:29.92 and that he's gonna be sharing 00:35:29.96\00:35:31.29 his testimony for those of you 00:35:31.33\00:35:32.69 who don't know a lot about him, 00:35:32.73\00:35:34.10 but he's an African-American entrepreneur 00:35:34.13\00:35:38.13 who is living in California. 00:35:38.17\00:35:40.84 He opened up a vegetarian restaurant 00:35:40.87\00:35:43.04 or vegan restaurant in Oakland 00:35:43.07\00:35:44.97 following Ellen White's writings about 00:35:45.01\00:35:47.74 or having a ministry, a food ministry in Oakland, 00:35:47.78\00:35:51.71 like they were having on Market Street 00:35:51.75\00:35:53.35 in San Francisco. 00:35:53.38\00:35:54.92 And he then has gone on from not only opening up 00:35:54.95\00:35:58.52 his own restaurants and doing cooking classes, 00:35:58.55\00:36:00.86 but then actually starting up a food company 00:36:00.89\00:36:04.03 called Better Chew, 00:36:04.06\00:36:05.46 or that's the name of the brand of the product that he creates. 00:36:05.49\00:36:08.86 And he even is selling it through whole foods. 00:36:08.90\00:36:12.03 And so he just has an amazing story of how, you know, 00:36:12.07\00:36:15.87 he grew growing up and, you know, 00:36:15.90\00:36:17.91 becoming a Seventh-day Adventist, 00:36:17.94\00:36:19.27 he didn't grow up in the church. 00:36:19.31\00:36:20.64 He became a Seventh-day Adventist 00:36:20.68\00:36:22.01 using his colporteuring skills to be able to really, you know, 00:36:22.04\00:36:26.18 be able to, you know, sell his ideas, you know, 00:36:26.21\00:36:29.28 to people in the marketplace. 00:36:29.32\00:36:30.89 And so you don't wanna miss his testimony 00:36:30.92\00:36:33.36 because he really has an inspiring testimony. 00:36:33.39\00:36:35.86 And I encourage, you know, any young people, 00:36:35.89\00:36:38.49 especially to come and listen to his presentation, 00:36:38.53\00:36:43.00 because if you have any ideas or have any desire 00:36:43.03\00:36:46.57 to become more entrepreneurial, this guy, you know, 00:36:46.60\00:36:50.57 he has lots of good tips for that. 00:36:50.61\00:36:52.87 Yes. 00:36:52.91\00:36:54.24 And then, Sabbath morning, 00:36:54.28\00:36:56.54 we're gonna have Dr. Magna Porterfield. 00:36:56.58\00:36:59.61 She is a psychologist and she has an amazing clinic 00:36:59.65\00:37:04.82 where they help people 00:37:04.85\00:37:06.29 on how to optimize their health. 00:37:06.32\00:37:08.46 You know, they have resources for both mental 00:37:08.49\00:37:11.66 and physical health, 00:37:11.69\00:37:13.33 and she wants to focus on mental health. 00:37:13.36\00:37:16.30 So her presentation is gonna be on how to achieve 00:37:16.33\00:37:19.27 and maintain positive mental health, 00:37:19.30\00:37:21.90 which as Joy mentioned during this time of COVID 00:37:21.94\00:37:24.57 is very important. 00:37:24.61\00:37:25.94 But as we know, the statistics, 00:37:25.97\00:37:27.38 even around COVID before COVID were dismal 00:37:27.41\00:37:31.35 as far as the percentage of people 00:37:31.38\00:37:33.88 suffering from depression and anxiety. 00:37:33.92\00:37:36.92 So, I mean, I think only COVID exacerbated that. 00:37:36.95\00:37:39.42 So her message is one that you will not wanna miss 00:37:39.45\00:37:42.39 on how to optimize your mental health. 00:37:42.42\00:37:45.66 And then we will also be having Dr. David DeRose. 00:37:45.69\00:37:49.90 He is actually a pastor and at the same time, 00:37:49.93\00:37:52.67 a medical doctor who actually is the president 00:37:52.70\00:37:56.30 of Compass Health Consulting 00:37:56.34\00:37:58.64 and he's written numerous books. 00:37:58.67\00:38:00.58 And he has, he just brings a, 00:38:00.61\00:38:03.31 just a wonderful connection 00:38:03.35\00:38:04.91 between the spiritual and the physical. 00:38:04.95\00:38:07.32 I mean, he is somebody who will be able to provide us 00:38:07.35\00:38:11.45 a message on how we can use biblical principles in order 00:38:11.49\00:38:15.26 to find peace and to achieve the type of health 00:38:15.29\00:38:18.46 that we want and should have at this time. 00:38:18.49\00:38:22.93 In the afternoon, we're gonna have... 00:38:22.96\00:38:25.67 Some of you may also be familiar with Rico Hill. 00:38:25.70\00:38:28.80 He has been involved in media for many years. 00:38:28.84\00:38:32.74 He was part of MTVs Nickelodeon and then vice president 00:38:32.77\00:38:37.15 of programming for Turner Broadcasting. 00:38:37.18\00:38:39.41 And he left that world 00:38:39.45\00:38:41.45 and then started his own media ministry. 00:38:41.48\00:38:44.29 You may be familiar with it, 00:38:44.32\00:38:45.65 it's called Beehive International, 00:38:45.69\00:38:48.22 and he's going to be presenting his own testimony 00:38:48.26\00:38:51.23 again about how to use our health message 00:38:51.26\00:38:54.90 as a way to evangelize 00:38:54.93\00:38:57.07 and how to minister to other people. 00:38:57.10\00:38:59.10 So you don't wanna miss his testimony 00:38:59.13\00:39:02.17 and what he has to say about health evangelism. 00:39:02.20\00:39:05.77 And then finally, 00:39:05.81\00:39:07.14 we're also privileged to have Wes Youngberg. 00:39:07.18\00:39:10.25 I think many of you may know Dr. Youngberg. 00:39:10.28\00:39:12.51 He is truly one of our outspoken, 00:39:12.55\00:39:16.45 you know, 00:39:17.72\00:39:19.05 influencers on the area of health optimization. 00:39:19.09\00:39:22.46 He's just an amazing resource. 00:39:22.49\00:39:26.13 And again, during this time of COVID, 00:39:26.16\00:39:28.36 and just in general, 00:39:28.40\00:39:29.73 if you look at the health of our population 00:39:29.76\00:39:32.23 whether you're Adventist or not, 00:39:32.27\00:39:34.40 you know, we have a lot of work to do on the health front. 00:39:34.44\00:39:37.67 And so we're gonna be able 00:39:37.71\00:39:39.57 to have a wonderful conversation 00:39:39.61\00:39:41.04 with Wes and really focusing 00:39:41.08\00:39:42.71 on how we can optimize our health. 00:39:42.74\00:39:45.68 So as you can see faith over fear, faith not fear, 00:39:45.71\00:39:50.19 what we're trying to get people to understand 00:39:50.22\00:39:51.75 is that there's a lot of tools that God has given us. 00:39:51.79\00:39:55.29 You know, we were to live according to His principles. 00:39:55.32\00:39:58.33 If we follow a lot of these laws that He has given us, 00:39:58.36\00:40:01.90 you know, we'll be able to achieve 00:40:01.93\00:40:03.26 that mental and physical health, 00:40:03.30\00:40:05.43 you know, that God really wants us 00:40:05.47\00:40:07.07 to be able to experience. 00:40:07.10\00:40:08.44 Yes. 00:40:08.47\00:40:09.80 You know, this is a very timely event 00:40:09.84\00:40:12.21 with all of the things that are taking place. 00:40:12.24\00:40:14.08 This is very, very timely. 00:40:14.11\00:40:16.14 We've talked about the speaker lineup. 00:40:16.18\00:40:18.18 We've talked about the conference and all of that, 00:40:18.21\00:40:21.78 but how do people register? 00:40:21.82\00:40:23.92 How can people, if they want to attend, 00:40:23.95\00:40:25.92 how can they register? 00:40:25.95\00:40:27.69 Well, we're very excited because it's not just 00:40:27.72\00:40:30.79 for Lake Union anymore, right? 00:40:30.83\00:40:32.36 With virtual people can come from around the world. 00:40:32.39\00:40:35.43 The dates are set Friday evening 00:40:35.46\00:40:39.03 and that is April 16th. 00:40:39.07\00:40:41.64 And then all day Sabbath on April 17th 00:40:41.67\00:40:45.64 and we have our website. 00:40:45.67\00:40:47.84 And actually, if you could pull up the logo, 00:40:47.88\00:40:49.84 that would be great. 00:40:49.88\00:40:51.21 So it's Faith not Fear is the conference. 00:40:51.25\00:40:53.21 And then it's a bit hard to see there at the bottom, 00:40:53.25\00:40:55.12 but it's asiministries.org. 00:40:55.15\00:40:59.85 And actually I think 00:40:59.89\00:41:01.86 that we're gonna have a link from there. 00:41:01.89\00:41:03.83 You can also type in ASI Lake Union 00:41:03.86\00:41:06.59 and find it there as well. 00:41:06.63\00:41:08.56 So we're really excited to invite people. 00:41:08.60\00:41:11.33 And also on the end, 00:41:11.37\00:41:13.37 they'll show the phone number to call as well. 00:41:13.40\00:41:15.80 So I know, Debbie, you had a few more things 00:41:15.84\00:41:18.74 to say about registration too. 00:41:18.77\00:41:20.64 Oh, no, that we just want everybody to come. 00:41:22.11\00:41:24.98 Even though, and as Gianluca said, 00:41:25.01\00:41:28.92 this is one of the blessings of a pandemic. 00:41:28.95\00:41:31.32 The virtual environment has allowed us 00:41:31.35\00:41:32.82 to travel the world and to hear everyone to be able to share. 00:41:32.85\00:41:37.06 So we want you to join us on April 16th at 7:00 PM 00:41:37.09\00:41:42.56 Eastern and on Saturday, on Sabbath at 10:00 AM 00:41:42.60\00:41:47.67 Eastern as well as at 4:00 PM Eastern 00:41:47.70\00:41:51.71 for those special presentations. 00:41:51.74\00:41:54.94 Also know that we won't just be sitting and listening 00:41:54.98\00:41:58.48 to others or the keynote speakers. 00:41:58.51\00:42:00.88 We actually have members within our Lake Union 00:42:00.92\00:42:03.85 who have really taken to heart some of the admonitions 00:42:03.89\00:42:07.69 and the challenges of being more healthy. 00:42:07.72\00:42:12.59 You heard Gianluca say that he was health advocate 00:42:12.63\00:42:16.90 and that he is a triathlon and marathoner. 00:42:16.93\00:42:19.97 I tell you, talking with him has really inspired me 00:42:20.00\00:42:22.34 and I've had to dust off my treadmill. 00:42:22.37\00:42:24.61 But we actually have a couple of our members 00:42:24.64\00:42:29.04 who have lost weight. 00:42:29.08\00:42:32.01 So they haven't had pandemic weight 00:42:32.05\00:42:34.68 as so many people have talked about, 00:42:34.72\00:42:37.52 but have actually lost weight 00:42:37.55\00:42:39.19 because they've been able to kind of focus and refocus 00:42:39.22\00:42:41.82 their attention on what matters. 00:42:41.86\00:42:44.16 So what matters is really putting Jesus first 00:42:44.19\00:42:47.06 and how can I be equipped 00:42:47.10\00:42:49.83 and better tooled to His service. 00:42:49.86\00:42:53.30 And one of those answers 00:42:53.34\00:42:55.17 is to be a better physical specimen. 00:42:55.20\00:42:58.07 And so if you can be more healthy 00:42:58.11\00:43:00.28 then we can be a better witness 00:43:00.31\00:43:01.81 and a testimony to the world about 00:43:01.84\00:43:03.85 what Jesus can do through you and what you can do for Jesus. 00:43:03.88\00:43:07.08 Yeah. That's an excellent point. 00:43:07.12\00:43:08.48 You know, I'm gonna have to put my fork down 00:43:08.52\00:43:11.19 and pick some weights up or something. 00:43:11.22\00:43:13.72 I gotta get it together over here. 00:43:13.76\00:43:15.56 No, you definitely wanna pick those weights up. 00:43:15.59\00:43:18.49 You know, picking up heavy food won't do the trick. 00:43:18.53\00:43:21.60 That's right. 00:43:21.63\00:43:23.53 Well, I was hoping I could, you know, get, 00:43:23.57\00:43:25.53 reap some benefits through osmosis or something. 00:43:25.57\00:43:27.70 You know, actually Debbie was referring 00:43:29.30\00:43:31.34 to Carmelo Mercado 00:43:31.37\00:43:33.31 who actually is with the Lake Union 00:43:33.34\00:43:35.88 in a very high position, I think. 00:43:35.91\00:43:37.65 And he is going to be sharing his testimony and honestly 00:43:37.68\00:43:41.25 it is so inspiring. 00:43:41.28\00:43:42.62 And the thing about ASI 00:43:42.65\00:43:44.12 is you join a community of people. 00:43:44.15\00:43:46.76 And so, you know, we all have our local churches 00:43:46.79\00:43:49.26 and they're great, right? 00:43:49.29\00:43:51.13 Some are small, some are big, 00:43:51.16\00:43:52.69 some are inspiring some maybe some weeks not, 00:43:52.73\00:43:55.50 but you know, I think with ASI, 00:43:55.53\00:43:57.87 we can get that energy from each other, whether it's, 00:43:57.90\00:44:01.70 you know, because somebody is really 00:44:01.74\00:44:03.74 getting great progress in their business 00:44:03.77\00:44:06.47 or just need encouragement in their business 00:44:06.51\00:44:08.24 or maybe their ministry story has a miracle like 00:44:08.28\00:44:10.85 Chris was just sharing, 00:44:10.88\00:44:12.21 and we can actually bring that back 00:44:12.25\00:44:13.78 and energize our local congregations as well. 00:44:13.82\00:44:16.32 So we are... 00:44:16.35\00:44:18.12 ASI is supportive 00:44:18.15\00:44:19.99 of the Seventh-day Adventist church. 00:44:20.02\00:44:21.76 Yes. 00:44:21.79\00:44:23.12 But this conference is for anyone, 00:44:23.16\00:44:25.09 any of you 3ABN listeners. 00:44:25.13\00:44:27.16 We want to provide you with health tips. 00:44:27.20\00:44:29.73 We want to engage you as well. 00:44:29.76\00:44:32.20 And so the other thing Debbie said is, 00:44:32.23\00:44:34.04 it's not just gonna be a virtual 00:44:34.07\00:44:35.40 where you're staring at the screen. 00:44:35.44\00:44:36.87 We have, Carmelo actually figured out the technology 00:44:36.91\00:44:39.94 where we can break out into sessions 00:44:39.97\00:44:42.21 and breakout rooms and, you know, 00:44:42.24\00:44:44.35 have prayer times together, 00:44:44.38\00:44:45.71 have discussion times together. 00:44:45.75\00:44:47.08 So we're going to have facilitated discussions 00:44:47.12\00:44:48.75 and it won't just be, you know, staring at the screen. 00:44:48.78\00:44:51.19 Yeah. 00:44:51.22\00:44:52.55 So there's a wide variety 00:44:52.59\00:44:54.12 that will be engaging for everyone? 00:44:54.16\00:44:55.96 Exactly. 00:44:55.99\00:44:57.33 That's excellent. 00:44:57.36\00:44:58.69 You know, as I look at ASI and what ASI does, 00:44:58.73\00:45:01.50 ASI Lake Union, what are the needs of ASI? 00:45:01.53\00:45:06.57 Because they provide for so many ministries and help 00:45:06.60\00:45:09.80 to support other organizations and all of that stuff. 00:45:09.84\00:45:12.54 But what does ASI need? 00:45:12.57\00:45:14.68 How can people help support ASI? 00:45:14.71\00:45:16.85 Well, I'll start. 00:45:16.88\00:45:18.21 And then I'll hear from the others on Skype here. 00:45:18.25\00:45:20.08 But I would say our need is more members. 00:45:20.12\00:45:22.82 We want people to be involved. 00:45:22.85\00:45:25.25 We want people to basically access the benefits 00:45:25.29\00:45:27.76 that we enjoy as members. 00:45:27.79\00:45:29.52 And so, it is a bit of a process 00:45:29.56\00:45:32.26 because we want people that are going to show 00:45:32.29\00:45:34.93 the character of ASI. 00:45:34.96\00:45:37.43 We want, you know, 00:45:37.47\00:45:38.80 sort of the specimens like Debbie was saying, 00:45:38.83\00:45:41.47 so there is an application process, 00:45:41.50\00:45:43.91 but we really want to engage and have more members because, 00:45:43.94\00:45:48.64 you know, I go back to Stephanie Dawn's song 00:45:48.68\00:45:52.01 about the hands, you know, two hands can do very little, 00:45:52.05\00:45:56.12 but when we add our hands to other people's hands 00:45:56.15\00:45:59.22 and we become this body of Christ, 00:45:59.25\00:46:01.22 where Christ is the head, 00:46:01.26\00:46:02.76 He's giving us our charges, 00:46:02.79\00:46:04.89 but there's all these different body parts at work. 00:46:04.93\00:46:07.30 That's how I see ASI working together. 00:46:07.33\00:46:10.63 And we need more people 00:46:10.67\00:46:12.47 and we need all of us to be listening to Christ. 00:46:12.50\00:46:14.94 Yes. 00:46:14.97\00:46:16.71 Does anybody want to add anything to that? 00:46:16.74\00:46:20.74 Oh, this is Debbie. 00:46:20.78\00:46:22.11 And I'll just add that. 00:46:22.14\00:46:23.48 I think what ASI needs is for all of us 00:46:23.51\00:46:25.95 as members to constantly challenge ourselves, 00:46:25.98\00:46:29.75 to think about what we can do more for Jesus, 00:46:29.78\00:46:33.19 that we want to be conduits of blessing for others. 00:46:33.22\00:46:37.49 So how can we reach the neighbor next door? 00:46:37.53\00:46:42.60 One of the things 00:46:42.63\00:46:43.97 that I've tried to do is make sure 00:46:44.00\00:46:45.63 that I go to the same establishment 00:46:45.67\00:46:48.40 for some services, 00:46:48.44\00:46:49.77 so I can develop a relationship that might open doors 00:46:49.80\00:46:52.17 for me able to be share. 00:46:52.21\00:46:53.91 So again, we want everyone to always be thinking, 00:46:53.94\00:46:56.81 what can I do more for Jesus? 00:46:56.85\00:46:59.55 It's something that I've heard Danny Shelton 00:46:59.58\00:47:01.32 say before on 3ABN is the blessing is in the go. 00:47:01.35\00:47:06.82 So we've got to go and we got to think about 00:47:06.86\00:47:09.36 what we can do when we go so that we can reach others, 00:47:09.39\00:47:11.99 and let them know that Jesus is coming soon. 00:47:12.03\00:47:13.96 Amen. 00:47:14.00\00:47:15.33 Amen. Yeah. 00:47:15.36\00:47:16.70 And I would just add that, 00:47:16.73\00:47:18.50 you know, what, we need are ideas. 00:47:18.53\00:47:20.64 You know, I believe that in this time 00:47:20.67\00:47:23.37 that we're living in, 00:47:23.41\00:47:25.27 you know, there's so, things are changing 00:47:25.31\00:47:28.48 so fast in the way that Christ 00:47:28.51\00:47:31.21 is being portrayed in the media, 00:47:31.25\00:47:34.55 you know, religions being portrayed in the media, 00:47:34.58\00:47:36.32 you know, there's ways that, how can I put it? 00:47:36.35\00:47:40.12 There's so many types of media out there today 00:47:40.16\00:47:42.56 that didn't really exist 5, 10 years ago. 00:47:42.59\00:47:45.59 And we need ideas of how to tap into this 00:47:45.63\00:47:47.90 because there's a message being put out there 00:47:47.93\00:47:51.37 about who Christ is, 00:47:51.40\00:47:52.73 and it's not necessarily the right message. 00:47:52.77\00:47:54.47 And so, we need ideas 00:47:54.50\00:47:56.74 at how we can actually penetrate and be able 00:47:56.77\00:48:00.18 to have a much greater influence out there. 00:48:00.21\00:48:02.88 And, you know, people who are willing to step up 00:48:02.91\00:48:04.78 to the plate and to be able to put their time, 00:48:04.81\00:48:07.48 their energy, their other resources, 00:48:07.52\00:48:09.18 whether it be monetary or just talent behind us, 00:48:09.22\00:48:13.15 because I truly believe that we need people 00:48:13.19\00:48:16.89 to be engaged, to come up with new innovative ideas 00:48:16.93\00:48:20.60 and to be, you know, 00:48:20.63\00:48:21.96 as active as possible in sharing Jesus, 00:48:22.00\00:48:25.00 because I believe that there's an information war out 00:48:25.03\00:48:27.84 there and we need to do our part 00:48:27.87\00:48:29.70 to make sure that Christ is being properly, 00:48:29.74\00:48:32.14 you know, presented 00:48:32.17\00:48:33.51 and the attractiveness of our message. 00:48:33.54\00:48:35.88 And yet at the same time, making sure people understand, 00:48:35.91\00:48:39.38 hey, if you are a follower, 00:48:39.41\00:48:40.85 it also does require certain sacrifices and, 00:48:40.88\00:48:44.62 you know, being able to do things 00:48:44.65\00:48:45.99 in the community to help others. 00:48:46.02\00:48:47.36 So there's, there are these both aspects 00:48:47.39\00:48:49.66 to being an ASI member and we need people's ideas 00:48:49.69\00:48:52.56 on how to implement that. 00:48:52.59\00:48:54.10 Yes. 00:48:54.13\00:48:55.90 So how to implement that and lead people to Christ 00:48:55.93\00:49:00.14 in the workplace by providing a Christ-like example, 00:49:00.17\00:49:05.81 because I think you really nailed that, 00:49:05.84\00:49:07.68 you know, with there being a misrepresentation 00:49:07.71\00:49:11.35 of Christ's character. 00:49:11.38\00:49:13.88 I've talked to some people about 00:49:13.92\00:49:15.95 like search engine optimization and all of those things, 00:49:15.98\00:49:19.05 and it used to be where people would Google 00:49:19.09\00:49:22.62 about Jesus and they would get 00:49:22.66\00:49:24.39 all of the wrong type of information. 00:49:24.43\00:49:28.13 So I love that ASI is covering every single facet, 00:49:28.16\00:49:32.93 every single base there. 00:49:32.97\00:49:35.54 Joy, what else would you like to add 00:49:35.57\00:49:38.34 before we go to the address role? 00:49:38.37\00:49:41.14 Well, the thing I would just like to encourage 00:49:41.18\00:49:43.21 is for people to learn more about 00:49:43.24\00:49:46.05 the different things that ASI 00:49:46.08\00:49:47.82 is involved in and the different ministries, 00:49:47.85\00:49:49.75 because, for example, 00:49:49.78\00:49:51.45 Adventist World Radio is one of the ministries. 00:49:51.49\00:49:54.66 I don't know how many people I've sent 00:49:54.69\00:49:56.69 Cami Oetman's Unlocking Bible Prophecies stories too, 00:49:56.73\00:50:01.46 but you know, that's a way of digital evangelism. 00:50:01.50\00:50:04.23 I didn't even know what digital evangelism 00:50:04.27\00:50:06.03 was until I joined ASI. 00:50:06.07\00:50:07.57 So it's kind of just tailing on what Gianluca was saying, 00:50:07.60\00:50:12.04 learn what resources we have to share Christ 00:50:12.07\00:50:15.28 in all of the different realms of our lives. 00:50:15.31\00:50:17.68 And we just hope people will come. 00:50:17.71\00:50:20.12 We hope you will come if you're listening. 00:50:20.15\00:50:22.18 And again, we want to invite you 00:50:22.22\00:50:24.62 to go to the asilakeunion.org website and, you know, 00:50:24.65\00:50:29.72 sign up and join us and not just join to listen, 00:50:29.76\00:50:35.33 but apply these healthy habits that we can make 00:50:35.36\00:50:38.90 that will allow Christ glory to shine through us 00:50:38.93\00:50:41.87 in a brighter way. 00:50:41.90\00:50:43.24 Yes. Amen. 00:50:43.27\00:50:44.61 So real quick, what are some of the challenges 00:50:44.64\00:50:47.71 that you think people face 00:50:47.74\00:50:49.34 when sharing Christ in the workplace? 00:50:49.38\00:50:50.91 Wow, well, like Gianluca said, you know, 00:50:52.51\00:50:54.58 it is a very secular environment 00:50:54.62\00:50:56.55 and we all know people 00:50:56.58\00:50:57.92 that the minute you say the name of Jesus, 00:50:57.95\00:50:59.82 their face just changes. 00:50:59.85\00:51:01.49 But I think living out like Debbie was challenging us 00:51:01.52\00:51:05.29 to do living out the love of Christ, 00:51:05.33\00:51:07.63 living out the kindness of Christ, 00:51:07.66\00:51:09.80 living out the patience and the generosity of Christ. 00:51:09.83\00:51:12.47 That's what I've seen in so many ASI members. 00:51:12.50\00:51:15.04 And it's what inspires me 00:51:15.07\00:51:17.14 to want to get closer to Jesus myself. 00:51:17.17\00:51:20.21 And I think the challenge for all of us is distraction. 00:51:20.24\00:51:24.01 Satan loves to take our minds and do anything, 00:51:24.05\00:51:27.42 but focus on prayer, 00:51:27.45\00:51:29.48 focus on the Word and focus on loving others. 00:51:29.52\00:51:32.29 And so, I just wanna call us to draw close to Christ 00:51:32.32\00:51:36.32 so that we can reflect His glory to the world. 00:51:36.36\00:51:39.86 Amen. Amen. Yeah. 00:51:39.89\00:51:41.23 He wants to pull us away from anything to do with God. 00:51:41.26\00:51:44.93 And nowadays there's so much vying for our attention. 00:51:44.97\00:51:48.67 So that's absolutely right. 00:51:48.70\00:51:50.54 We want to go to the address role 00:51:50.57\00:51:53.44 and then a brief news break and we'll be right back. 00:51:53.48\00:51:57.31 For more information about ASI Lake Union, 00:51:57.35\00:52:00.08 please contact them at PO Box 287, 00:52:00.12\00:52:03.39 Berrien Springs, Michigan 49103. 00:52:03.42\00:52:07.06 That's PO Box 287, 00:52:07.09\00:52:09.39 Berrien Springs, Michigan 49103. 00:52:09.42\00:52:12.39 Their phone number is (269) 473-8247. 00:52:12.43\00:52:16.87 That's (269) 473-8247. 00:52:16.90\00:52:20.90 Their website is asilakeunion.org. 00:52:20.94\00:52:24.37 That's asilakeunion.org. 00:52:24.41\00:52:27.68 You may also email them at communications.luasi@gmail.com 00:52:27.71\00:52:33.45
