elementary school playgroup,

would bring their children

you hear someone is vegetarian

And then I quickly
learned she wasn't,

vegetarian since I was nine.

And I hadn't met any vegetarians

we had met years ago.

So I went to the Princeton
Seventh-day Adventist Church

for the first time

to show up for
this cooking class.

Lo and behold, I was
the only non-member there.

It's a small church,

and I didn't
realize that at the time,

found out that later.

But our kids
reconnected and really bonded.

And that's when our
friendship really took off.

idea of ministry come in?

eventually joined the church.

the same thing she did.

of agreeing to disagree

trying to explain to me,

but I didn't see in the Bible.

So what was the turning point?

many things that happened,

would say the true friendship

were going to be friends,

I came a point in time

Seventh-day Adventist school.

And it was far away

carpooling together.

I drove an hour one
way to get to school

and I would stay with
the kids at the school

I worked at the school.

But that was the only way

we could have a small
Christian education for them.

And she had her
kids come to that school

teacher met a specific need

that was filled for Joy.

And her kids
coming from homeschooling,

it was a small setting

so they felt
comfortable in going to it.

And I finally had a real friend

in terms of knowing that
she not only cared for me,

but she cared for my children.

bond that brought us together.

I did also the Bible
studies with our pastor

that I had this
opportunity come up,

organization that was, I loved.

And Cherri had some feelings
about me going to Africa.

I personally thought that she,

now's not the right time.

because of her friendship,

One in three children
are severely malnourished.

And when I say
severely malnourished,

I, it means it's going
to impact their whole lives.

And so I realized that

and I met church
members and I realized

really be transforming lives,
