Wow. 00:06:28.95\00:06:30.29 Now, before we go any further, 00:06:30.32\00:06:31.65 honey, I think that the people watching 00:06:31.69\00:06:33.02 may see something they might say 00:06:33.05\00:06:34.59 did 3ABN change their decor? 00:06:34.62\00:06:37.06 Oh, yeah. 00:06:37.09\00:06:38.43 So let's go ahead and explain... 00:06:38.46\00:06:40.46 This beautiful decor that we have here 00:06:40.50\00:06:42.90 is from Africa. 00:06:42.93\00:06:45.00 Yes. Purchased in Uganda. 00:06:45.03\00:06:47.04 One of the things I love about Africa 00:06:47.07\00:06:48.64 is just the colors, 00:06:48.67\00:06:50.01 the bright, bold colors... 00:06:50.04\00:06:51.64 This is beautiful. 00:06:51.67\00:06:53.01 And women dressed in beautiful dresses 00:06:53.04\00:06:55.61 that they, you know, have handmade 00:06:55.64\00:06:57.51 just to fit them perfectly. 00:06:57.55\00:06:58.91 I saw you had one when you were in Kenya. 00:06:58.95\00:07:00.92 I had a beautiful handmade, 00:07:00.95\00:07:03.55 what is it, a dress and even a little head scarf thing 00:07:03.59\00:07:06.99 that I had was just gorgeous. 00:07:07.02\00:07:08.72 And they measured me. 00:07:08.76\00:07:10.09 They even made you one too, honey. 00:07:10.13\00:07:11.46 Yeah. 00:07:11.49\00:07:12.83 They made mine too tight, just for the record. 00:07:12.86\00:07:14.96 And I got it on once and I thought 00:07:15.00\00:07:17.33 if I try this again with no one around, 00:07:17.37\00:07:19.13 I'll be incarcerated. 00:07:19.17\00:07:21.57 Yeah. 00:07:21.60\00:07:22.94 So the colors, like you said, it's just beautiful. 00:07:22.97\00:07:25.07 Right. 00:07:25.11\00:07:26.74 Thank you for bringing this. 00:07:26.78\00:07:28.11 And then there's something over your shoulder there. 00:07:28.14\00:07:29.54 I want them to know that 00:07:29.58\00:07:30.91 you didn't bring a stick with you. 00:07:30.95\00:07:32.28 If you get upset. Right. 00:07:32.31\00:07:33.65 No I brought this. 00:07:33.68\00:07:35.02 This is a sneak preview of, when I first got to Africa, 00:07:35.05\00:07:38.12 I was amazed. 00:07:38.15\00:07:39.49 I was doing hands-on plant-based cooking classes, 00:07:39.52\00:07:42.42 and you would be amazed 00:07:42.46\00:07:44.56 by the things they can make 00:07:44.59\00:07:45.93 by just pounding, pounding, pounding. 00:07:45.96\00:07:47.70 So primarily in FARM STEW 00:07:47.73\00:07:49.40 we're working on addressing childhood malnutrition, 00:07:49.43\00:07:52.73 and they are using this mortar and pestle 00:07:52.77\00:07:55.60 to pound soybeans and turn it into soy milk, 00:07:55.64\00:07:58.77 which is almost like bringing manna from heaven in a way. 00:07:58.81\00:08:02.44 People get so excited about it. So that's a sneak preview. 00:08:02.48\00:08:05.45 Okay. 00:08:05.48\00:08:07.12 Now, who do you have with you? Joy and Cherri. 00:08:07.15\00:08:10.95 Yes. 00:08:10.99\00:08:12.32 My dearest friend 00:08:12.35\00:08:13.69 who friendship evangelized me into the church. 00:08:13.72\00:08:15.82 And so I was telling you all about this story 00:08:15.86\00:08:19.39 a few months back, 00:08:19.43\00:08:20.76 and we said, you know what, 00:08:20.80\00:08:22.13 why don't we tell the story of God at work 00:08:22.16\00:08:25.00 really in our lives? 00:08:25.03\00:08:26.97 So, Cherri, how did we meet? 00:08:27.00\00:08:29.50 Well, actually we met 00:08:29.54\00:08:30.94 at a local elementary school playgroup, 00:08:30.97\00:08:34.74 they called it, 00:08:34.78\00:08:36.11 where the moms would bring their children 00:08:36.14\00:08:37.65 to help them socialize with other children 00:08:37.68\00:08:39.78 within the county or district. 00:08:39.81\00:08:43.15 So we met there kind of connected. 00:08:43.18\00:08:45.29 And of course, being Adventist, you hear someone is vegetarian 00:08:45.32\00:08:49.02 and from Silver Springs, Maryland. 00:08:49.06\00:08:51.86 And what do you think? 00:08:51.89\00:08:53.23 They're Adventist. Right. 00:08:53.26\00:08:55.26 And then I quickly learned she wasn't, 00:08:55.30\00:08:57.60 but I was like, maybe she will, you know, someday. 00:08:57.63\00:09:01.67 But I just really connected on a friendship level with her. 00:09:01.70\00:09:06.17 So you hit it off right away. 00:09:06.21\00:09:07.81 We did. 00:09:07.84\00:09:09.18 And you became friends. And how did you, after that... 00:09:09.21\00:09:13.92 Well... Yeah, go ahead. 00:09:13.95\00:09:15.28 I had gone with my husband to have some friends 00:09:15.32\00:09:18.92 and we had tried evangelizing through just, 00:09:18.95\00:09:21.76 "This is our truth. You need to know our truth." 00:09:21.79\00:09:24.43 And we realized at that point 00:09:24.46\00:09:26.13 that we needed to do Jesus evangelism. 00:09:26.16\00:09:28.03 Amen. 00:09:28.06\00:09:29.40 And Jesus just met the people where they were 00:09:29.43\00:09:31.57 and he befriended them. 00:09:31.60\00:09:32.93 So I just became her friend. 00:09:32.97\00:09:34.97 It was like, we enjoyed doing things together. 00:09:35.00\00:09:37.14 We would take our kids swimming, 00:09:37.17\00:09:39.24 we would go, take them outside. 00:09:39.27\00:09:41.41 They would play in the snow together. 00:09:41.44\00:09:42.98 So it was just that... 00:09:43.01\00:09:44.55 Connection of the children. 00:09:44.58\00:09:45.91 Connection of moms. We connected through children. 00:09:45.95\00:09:48.88 But we lost touch 00:09:48.92\00:09:50.59 in between when we first met and when we became friends, 00:09:50.62\00:09:56.32 real close friends, 00:09:56.36\00:09:57.89 we lost touch due to our kids and going different directions. 00:09:57.93\00:10:02.16 So maybe you can tell them about that. 00:10:02.20\00:10:03.57 Yes. 00:10:03.60\00:10:04.93 So we reconnected when I saw a vegetarian cooking class 00:10:04.97\00:10:08.37 advertised in the local paper, 00:10:08.40\00:10:09.84 and I'm a public health nutritionist, 00:10:09.87\00:10:12.67 and I've been a vegetarian since I was nine. 00:10:12.71\00:10:15.21 And I hadn't met any vegetarians 00:10:15.24\00:10:16.98 except for when we had met years ago. 00:10:17.01\00:10:19.51 So I went to the Princeton Seventh-day Adventist Church 00:10:19.55\00:10:22.22 for the first time 00:10:22.25\00:10:23.59 to show up for this cooking class. 00:10:23.62\00:10:24.95 Lo and behold, I was the only non-member there. 00:10:24.99\00:10:28.02 It's a small church, 00:10:28.06\00:10:29.42 and I didn't realize that at the time, 00:10:29.46\00:10:31.16 found out that later. 00:10:31.19\00:10:32.66 But our kids reconnected and really bonded. 00:10:32.69\00:10:35.50 And that's when our friendship really took off. 00:10:35.53\00:10:38.00 Wow. 00:10:38.03\00:10:39.37 And then where did the idea of ministry come in? 00:10:39.40\00:10:44.37 Because you're both, you're talking about FARM STEW. 00:10:44.41\00:10:47.44 How did that even... 00:10:47.48\00:10:48.88 Well, you eventually joined the church. 00:10:48.91\00:10:51.31 Well, it's kind of through FARM STEW actually, 00:10:51.35\00:10:54.75 so our friendship, 00:10:54.78\00:10:56.69 we would often talk about God 00:10:56.72\00:10:58.65 and really, you know, 00:10:58.69\00:11:00.59 I didn't believe the same thing she did. 00:11:00.62\00:11:02.99 So we kind of had all sorts of exciting conversations, 00:11:03.02\00:11:06.59 you know, just where as things would happen. 00:11:06.63\00:11:09.26 We had many points of agreeing to disagree 00:11:09.30\00:11:12.53 and I would just go home and pray with my husband. 00:11:12.57\00:11:14.90 Rather than push the issue we would just pray about it. 00:11:14.94\00:11:18.14 And we would have preachers 00:11:18.17\00:11:19.87 that would confirm what we had said 00:11:19.91\00:11:22.24 and then she would listen to it that... 00:11:22.28\00:11:24.05 Non-Adventist preachers that would confirm the truth 00:11:24.08\00:11:27.85 that she was trying to explain to me, 00:11:27.88\00:11:29.25 but I didn't see in the Bible. 00:11:29.28\00:11:31.49 So. 00:11:31.52\00:11:32.85 So what was the turning point? 00:11:32.89\00:11:34.49 Yeah, well, there was so many things that happened, 00:11:34.52\00:11:37.26 but just really, I would say the true friendship 00:11:37.29\00:11:40.23 where we just decided that 00:11:40.26\00:11:41.80 no matter what, we were going to be friends, 00:11:41.83\00:11:43.57 whether I ever came into the church or not, 00:11:43.60\00:11:45.37 their family was gonna care for mine. 00:11:45.40\00:11:47.77 And they started by, 00:11:47.80\00:11:50.97 I came a point in time 00:11:51.01\00:11:52.34 when I was homeschooling my kids, 00:11:52.37\00:11:53.84 but I realized I needed help. 00:11:53.88\00:11:56.24 And she was taking her kids 00:11:56.28\00:11:57.65 to a nearby Seventh-day Adventist school. 00:11:57.68\00:12:00.42 And it was far away 00:12:00.45\00:12:02.35 so we started carpooling together. 00:12:02.38\00:12:04.25 Oh. Right. 00:12:04.29\00:12:05.95 We carpooled because 00:12:05.99\00:12:07.32 I drove an hour one way to get to school 00:12:07.36\00:12:09.06 and I would stay with the kids at the school 00:12:09.09\00:12:11.53 and then bring them back home at night. 00:12:11.56\00:12:13.36 I worked at the school. 00:12:13.40\00:12:15.16 But that was the only way 00:12:15.20\00:12:16.53 we could have a small Christian education for them. 00:12:16.56\00:12:18.73 And she had her kids come to that school 00:12:18.77\00:12:20.94 because our teacher met a specific need 00:12:20.97\00:12:24.17 that was filled for Joy. 00:12:24.21\00:12:26.17 And her kids coming from homeschooling, 00:12:26.21\00:12:28.51 it was a small setting 00:12:28.54\00:12:29.91 so they felt comfortable in going to it. 00:12:29.94\00:12:32.28 I see. Right. 00:12:32.31\00:12:33.78 And I finally had a real friend 00:12:33.82\00:12:36.15 in terms of knowing that she not only cared for me, 00:12:36.18\00:12:38.75 but she cared for my children. 00:12:38.79\00:12:40.62 And I think that was a bond that brought us together. 00:12:40.66\00:12:43.76 I did also the Bible studies with our pastor 00:12:43.79\00:12:46.80 after he would finish devotions, 00:12:46.83\00:12:48.90 then I would do the Bible study with the pastor. 00:12:48.93\00:12:51.73 And it was about a year into that schooling 00:12:51.77\00:12:54.47 that I had this opportunity come up, 00:12:54.50\00:12:58.34 that I could go to Africa. 00:12:58.37\00:13:00.54 And I was serving on the board of directors 00:13:00.58\00:13:02.34 for another organization that was, I loved. 00:13:02.38\00:13:05.91 And they invited me to go to Africa 00:13:05.95\00:13:09.22 and do public health nutrition, do hands-on cooking classes, 00:13:09.25\00:13:13.02 like I showed before with the mortar, 00:13:13.05\00:13:15.52 that was in 2015. 00:13:15.56\00:13:17.89 And Cherri had some feelings about me going to Africa. 00:13:17.93\00:13:21.76 I personally thought that she, I wanted her to be able to go, 00:13:21.80\00:13:25.87 but I said, maybe now's not the right time. 00:13:25.90\00:13:28.04 Just be with your kids. 00:13:28.07\00:13:29.54 And I thought she's kinda crazy, 00:13:29.57\00:13:31.61 but I'm glad God changes things 00:13:31.64\00:13:36.44 and changes your mind on things. 00:13:36.48\00:13:38.71 Yeah. So she went. 00:13:38.75\00:13:40.65 So I went in part because of her friendship, 00:13:40.68\00:13:43.02 you know, being, making sure 00:13:43.05\00:13:44.39 she would help work with my husband 00:13:44.42\00:13:45.79 to get the kids to school and everything. 00:13:45.82\00:13:47.69 And so I went and I never imagined, 00:13:47.72\00:13:50.43 and you can see me, there's a picture of me 00:13:50.46\00:13:52.26 surrounded by people and they're making soy milk. 00:13:52.29\00:13:55.06 There's a pot in the middle of the picture 00:13:55.10\00:13:57.37 where they are just amazed 00:13:57.40\00:13:59.53 by what they could feed their children. 00:13:59.57\00:14:01.20 And, you know, people, we do know that there's hunger 00:14:01.24\00:14:04.34 and malnutrition here in this country, 00:14:04.37\00:14:06.81 but in Sub-Saharan Africa, 00:14:06.84\00:14:09.44 where, by the way, we have 9 million, 00:14:09.48\00:14:11.35 Seventh-day Adventist members... 00:14:11.38\00:14:13.15 Wow! 00:14:13.18\00:14:14.52 One in three children are severely malnourished. 00:14:14.55\00:14:18.72 And when I say severely malnourished, 00:14:18.75\00:14:21.06 I, it means it's going to impact their whole lives. 00:14:21.09\00:14:24.33 And so I realized that 00:14:24.36\00:14:26.06 these hands-on cooking classes 00:14:26.09\00:14:27.66 and I met church members and I realized 00:14:27.70\00:14:29.56 they could help teach these hands-on cooking classes 00:14:29.60\00:14:31.90 even after I left. 00:14:31.93\00:14:33.74 That they could really be transforming lives, 00:14:33.77\00:14:36.77 even though, and I had to go home 00:14:36.81\00:14:38.41 back to my own children, 00:14:38.44\00:14:40.04 they could keep caring for the children there. 00:14:40.08\00:14:41.94 So that was kind of how FARM STEW was born. 00:14:41.98\00:14:44.81 And when I came home and I told Cherri 00:14:44.85\00:14:46.61 I wanted to start a ministry 00:14:46.65\00:14:48.62 and I wanted her to be involved, 00:14:48.65\00:14:49.98 she had a unique reaction. 00:14:50.02\00:14:52.09 I said, 00:14:52.12\00:14:53.46 "I'll be involved, but I'll do anything for you 00:14:53.49\00:14:55.42 as long as it's here in the States, " 00:14:55.46\00:14:56.79 that "I will not go to Africa with you. 00:14:56.83\00:15:00.10 I'll do anything but that." 00:15:00.13\00:15:02.16 And God has different plans of like, 00:15:02.20\00:15:04.43 we know we're very thankful for. 00:15:04.47\00:15:06.87 Three years later, I ended up in Africa with her. 00:15:06.90\00:15:10.01 But one of the key points is 00:15:10.04\00:15:11.74 through the steps that we went through, 00:15:11.77\00:15:13.81 it was actually the Africans in Uganda 00:15:13.84\00:15:15.94 that convinced, that made the final push 00:15:15.98\00:15:17.91 and convinced her to become Adventist. 00:15:17.95\00:15:20.58 It was that global church family 00:15:20.62\00:15:22.45 that we have that wherever you go, 00:15:22.48\00:15:24.85 you have a global church family. 00:15:24.89\00:15:26.35 Exactly. Look at that. That's so true. 00:15:26.39\00:15:28.79 The sun never sets. We're all over the world. 00:15:28.82\00:15:32.49 That's powerful. 00:15:32.53\00:15:33.86 Honestly, the Adventists there in Africa, 00:15:33.90\00:15:37.00 I just, I felt so connected to them 00:15:37.03\00:15:39.93 because, you know, 00:15:39.97\00:15:41.30 we had the same Sabbath school quarterly, 00:15:41.34\00:15:43.67 theirs was in different languages, Busoga. 00:15:43.71\00:15:46.68 But it was like we were studying together 00:15:46.71\00:15:49.14 and our hearts were just knit together. 00:15:49.18\00:15:50.55 I happened, the first time I went, 00:15:50.58\00:15:52.08 it was a communion Sunday or Sunday. 00:15:52.11\00:15:55.42 You can tell I'm a convert. 00:15:55.45\00:15:57.65 So, it was communion and they went out 00:15:57.69\00:16:00.69 and they washed my feet. 00:16:00.72\00:16:03.89 You know, this woman, Lucy, 00:16:03.93\00:16:05.83 she washed my feet 00:16:05.86\00:16:07.20 and she's actually the sister 00:16:07.23\00:16:08.56 of one of our original FARM STEW trainers 00:16:08.60\00:16:10.37 who the Lord inspired me, I believe, to hire. 00:16:10.40\00:16:14.10 And you can see there's a picture 00:16:14.14\00:16:15.64 of one of our teams of trainers there 00:16:15.67\00:16:18.11 with cans of seeds. 00:16:18.14\00:16:19.87 And they were out really expressing 00:16:19.91\00:16:23.78 not only the love of Jesus 00:16:23.81\00:16:25.41 and doing friendship evangelizing 00:16:25.45\00:16:27.15 in their own way, 00:16:27.18\00:16:28.52 reaching out to the communities, 00:16:28.55\00:16:29.88 but also equipping them with tools. 00:16:29.92\00:16:31.69 A lot of people, they don't have the, the seeds 00:16:31.72\00:16:35.52 even to grow vegetables 00:16:35.56\00:16:36.99 and they don't have the experience 00:16:37.03\00:16:38.36 to grow vegetables 00:16:38.39\00:16:39.73 that our children need in order to thrive. 00:16:39.76\00:16:42.43 How did this start? 00:16:42.46\00:16:45.87 We have a picture of your grandfather 00:16:45.90\00:16:47.50 and your grandmother, right? 00:16:47.54\00:16:49.64 It started, the farm, they had a farm. 00:16:49.67\00:16:52.17 Your parents, your grandparents had a farm? 00:16:52.21\00:16:53.54 Yeah. 00:16:53.58\00:16:54.91 So my grandparents, 00:16:54.94\00:16:56.28 I was blessed to be raised by a Christian family. 00:16:56.31\00:16:58.01 And this is my grandpa 00:16:58.05\00:16:59.38 taking me to church when I was a little girl 00:16:59.41\00:17:00.75 and my grandma, 00:17:00.78\00:17:02.12 they lived in a town called Farmland, Indiana. 00:17:02.15\00:17:03.95 Wow. 00:17:03.99\00:17:05.32 And she had a huge garden. 00:17:05.35\00:17:07.02 Of course, he was also a farmer 00:17:07.06\00:17:09.12 and she's who taught me to garden 00:17:09.16\00:17:10.83 and also to have a love for 00:17:10.86\00:17:12.53 not only the fresh food out of the garden, 00:17:12.56\00:17:14.16 but also preserving the food, 00:17:14.20\00:17:15.56 you know, snapping the beans 00:17:15.60\00:17:16.93 and canning them and everything. 00:17:16.97\00:17:18.53 And you know, as we get prepared for the last days, 00:17:18.57\00:17:21.30 we might, a lot of us need those kinds of skills. 00:17:21.34\00:17:23.41 I know. 00:17:23.44\00:17:24.77 So the Lord was laying the foundation 00:17:24.81\00:17:26.14 before you even knew it, you were on a farm. 00:17:26.17\00:17:28.54 Would you even think that 00:17:28.58\00:17:30.08 years ago you'd be connected to FARM STEW, 00:17:30.11\00:17:31.98 and we'll find out what that is. 00:17:32.01\00:17:33.75 'Cause it's not just two words. 00:17:33.78\00:17:35.12 It's an acronym. We'll find out what that is. 00:17:35.15\00:17:36.62 Exactly. 00:17:36.65\00:17:37.99 Well, we can jump to actually a picture of the acronym. 00:17:38.02\00:17:41.62 The FARM STEW acronym. 00:17:41.66\00:17:43.12 It's a recipe for abundant life. 00:17:43.16\00:17:45.36 And so it has eight letters, 00:17:45.39\00:17:47.86 kind of like other health messages 00:17:47.90\00:17:49.33 that we have with eight letters. 00:17:49.36\00:17:52.17 But these are specific 00:17:52.20\00:17:53.67 for people that are in countries 00:17:53.70\00:17:55.34 that are struggling to feed their children. 00:17:55.37\00:17:57.11 So it's farming, attitude, rest, and meals, 00:17:57.14\00:18:00.68 sanitation, temperance, enterprise, and water. 00:18:00.71\00:18:04.35 Okay. 00:18:04.38\00:18:05.71 And these eight ingredients 00:18:05.75\00:18:07.08 all really impact the health and wellbeing of children 00:18:07.12\00:18:10.32 and entire families and communities. 00:18:10.35\00:18:12.72 Wow. Wow. 00:18:12.75\00:18:14.09 So this, the idea of going to Africa, 00:18:14.12\00:18:18.63 not wanting to go to Africa, 00:18:18.66\00:18:20.76 the Lord had a plan for your life. 00:18:20.80\00:18:22.56 You know, the Jeremiah 29:11 was happening in your life 00:18:22.60\00:18:26.53 'cause God, I think in a, in a beautiful way was saying, 00:18:26.57\00:18:30.21 "Joy has no idea what I'm doing. 00:18:30.24\00:18:32.94 And neither does Cherri." 00:18:32.97\00:18:34.58 Cherri said, "I won't, " but you will. 00:18:34.61\00:18:37.31 Joy says, "I don't want to," 00:18:37.35\00:18:39.01 but you're going to, 00:18:39.05\00:18:40.38 and God in a wonderful way gets us connected by ministries 00:18:40.42\00:18:43.62 that takes our focus away from us. 00:18:43.65\00:18:45.82 The Lord is saying, 00:18:45.85\00:18:47.19 "Okay, here's what I want you to do. 00:18:47.22\00:18:48.56 And I'm going to use that to unite both of you together. 00:18:48.59\00:18:51.69 You don't have to push Cherri 00:18:51.73\00:18:53.63 'cause my Holy Spirit's gonna do the work." 00:18:53.66\00:18:55.26 And that's amazing. 00:18:55.30\00:18:56.63 So we're looking at you guys today 00:18:56.67\00:18:58.00 being involved in something that's amazing, 00:18:58.03\00:18:59.47 but there's so much more 00:18:59.50\00:19:00.84 in the growth aspect of your life. 00:19:00.87\00:19:02.44 I would like to see your motherhood. 00:19:02.47\00:19:04.31 We have some pictures. 00:19:04.34\00:19:05.67 It's the Joy motherhood. 00:19:05.71\00:19:07.04 Yes. 00:19:07.08\00:19:08.41 I'd like to show our audience, 00:19:08.44\00:19:09.94 the pictures of you guys from way back. 00:19:09.98\00:19:11.68 Yeah. Sounds good. 00:19:11.71\00:19:13.05 So this is my family 00:19:13.08\00:19:14.42 and on the left is when Terry and I first met, 00:19:14.45\00:19:16.55 I just had this, my youngest was a baby. 00:19:16.58\00:19:19.62 And then we reconnected at this cooking class 00:19:19.65\00:19:22.02 I've mentioned about in the middle. 00:19:22.06\00:19:23.89 And the last picture on the right 00:19:23.93\00:19:25.66 is now my family. 00:19:25.69\00:19:27.03 So I have two teenage girls. 00:19:27.06\00:19:29.33 It's really a blessing to be a mom. 00:19:29.36\00:19:31.40 And my heart is also just so linked 00:19:31.43\00:19:33.17 to other mothers around the world 00:19:33.20\00:19:35.40 and maybe, you know, mothers that are struggling 00:19:35.44\00:19:38.07 to provide what they need for their children. 00:19:38.11\00:19:39.94 I think that was a bond 00:19:39.97\00:19:41.31 that Cherri and I had from the beginning 00:19:41.34\00:19:42.98 is really just wanting 00:19:43.01\00:19:44.35 what was best for our marriages, 00:19:44.38\00:19:46.21 best for our families 00:19:46.25\00:19:47.95 and especially for our children. 00:19:47.98\00:19:50.59 Great. 00:19:50.62\00:19:51.95 And you also have the girls' friendship thing? 00:19:51.99\00:19:54.39 Yeah. Which is so neat. 00:19:54.42\00:19:56.06 So Cherri had been doing so much evangelism. 00:19:56.09\00:19:57.79 Do you want to tell 00:19:57.83\00:19:59.16 a little bit about your own efforts? 00:19:59.19\00:20:00.66 Well, I had just wanted so much to reach out 00:20:00.70\00:20:03.80 and with the small church, like I said, 00:20:03.83\00:20:05.67 I would just pray each day 00:20:05.70\00:20:07.87 and my husband was praying for a ministry 00:20:07.90\00:20:09.87 and we were like, what can we do? 00:20:09.90\00:20:11.81 And so there was one day in the basement. 00:20:11.84\00:20:14.08 I just was like, 00:20:14.11\00:20:15.44 "Lord, what is the worth of my life? 00:20:15.48\00:20:17.41 What can I do here in this small town 00:20:17.45\00:20:19.35 that would impact the world?" 00:20:19.38\00:20:21.42 And I just felt Him to say, 00:20:21.45\00:20:23.22 "Keep going. 00:20:23.25\00:20:24.59 Just keep doing what you're doing, 00:20:24.62\00:20:26.15 be with your kids and stuff. 00:20:26.19\00:20:27.79 So make them a priority 00:20:27.82\00:20:29.22 as I want you to and train them." 00:20:29.26\00:20:32.13 So we continued that 00:20:32.16\00:20:33.50 little knowing that two years later 00:20:33.53\00:20:35.40 Joy would be in my life 00:20:35.43\00:20:37.20 and we would be friendship evangelizing 00:20:37.23\00:20:39.10 to the point of what it is today. 00:20:39.13\00:20:41.50 And I just think that it's a ministry to moms, 00:20:41.54\00:20:44.77 moms who devote your aspect to God, 00:20:44.81\00:20:47.84 and your life to God. 00:20:47.88\00:20:49.21 I think that's the key thing, 00:20:49.24\00:20:50.61 both Joy and I wanted 00:20:50.65\00:20:52.75 and were passionate about wanting to serve God. 00:20:52.78\00:20:55.52 So we served our families and served God. 00:20:55.55\00:20:57.85 And God said, 00:20:57.89\00:20:59.22 "Just wait a minute. 00:20:59.25\00:21:00.59 There's a workout there for you, " 00:21:00.62\00:21:01.96 but you may not know it at the time 00:21:01.99\00:21:04.13 when you're going through these steps. 00:21:04.16\00:21:06.46 I like that how you're saying that 00:21:06.49\00:21:07.83 you serve the Lord where you are 00:21:07.86\00:21:10.23 and don't think of, well, 00:21:10.27\00:21:11.73 try to serve Him where you're not, 00:21:11.77\00:21:13.30 preparing your family. 00:21:13.34\00:21:14.77 I would say that 00:21:14.80\00:21:16.14 Noah is my favorite character in the Bible 00:21:16.17\00:21:17.84 because when the flood came, his family was in New York. 00:21:17.87\00:21:20.41 We could save the world 00:21:20.44\00:21:21.78 and miss our family right before us. 00:21:21.81\00:21:23.98 Now, Joy. 00:21:24.01\00:21:25.35 We want to show a picture 00:21:25.38\00:21:26.72 of the first time of you in Africa. 00:21:26.75\00:21:28.65 It's such a nice photo. 00:21:28.68\00:21:30.39 What was that like? Yes. 00:21:30.42\00:21:32.19 That was amazing. 00:21:32.22\00:21:33.56 Because as a nutritionist here, 00:21:33.59\00:21:35.22 sometimes people don't always wanna hear 00:21:35.26\00:21:36.73 what you have to say, 00:21:36.76\00:21:38.09 but you can see clearly in Africa, 00:21:38.13\00:21:39.46 people were thrilled, thoroughly intrigued. 00:21:39.49\00:21:42.13 And especially like I said, 00:21:42.16\00:21:43.53 with this idea of being able to make milk from beans, 00:21:43.57\00:21:46.94 you know, milk is not affordable 00:21:46.97\00:21:49.27 to most of the rural villagers. 00:21:49.30\00:21:51.37 And especially we work now in South Sudan 00:21:51.41\00:21:54.41 and there's been war and upheaval. 00:21:54.44\00:21:56.04 And there's a lot of refugees that we work with, 00:21:56.08\00:21:58.71 making milk is next to impossible 00:21:58.75\00:22:01.02 because they've lost their animals. 00:22:01.05\00:22:02.38 They've been killed or stolen. 00:22:02.42\00:22:04.25 And so being able to, they call it the "green cow" 00:22:04.29\00:22:08.32 and some of our trainers, 00:22:08.36\00:22:09.76 there's an elder, his name is Elias, 00:22:09.79\00:22:12.33 a church elder. 00:22:12.36\00:22:13.70 And he, he was saying, 00:22:13.73\00:22:16.46 "This green cow can bring peace 00:22:16.50\00:22:19.10 amongst the tribes, even in the refugee camps, 00:22:19.13\00:22:22.24 because they can come together 00:22:22.27\00:22:23.81 and not have to fight over cows. 00:22:23.84\00:22:25.44 They can all grow their own soybeans." 00:22:25.47\00:22:26.94 Wow. 00:22:26.98\00:22:28.31 I never thought about the green cow, 00:22:28.34\00:22:29.84 we wore that in honor of the green cow today. 00:22:29.88\00:22:31.71 Exactly. You're wearing green today. 00:22:31.75\00:22:33.48 That's amazing. 00:22:33.52\00:22:34.85 So people, you can, you could take cattle, 00:22:34.88\00:22:36.72 but you can't cart off soybeans. 00:22:36.75\00:22:39.12 Exactly. Wow, wow. 00:22:39.15\00:22:41.09 I love that. 00:22:41.12\00:22:42.46 And we also have another one with you, 00:22:42.49\00:22:44.03 with the children. 00:22:44.06\00:22:45.39 Yeah. 00:22:45.43\00:22:46.76 So after I didn't necessarily want 00:22:46.80\00:22:49.06 to start FARM STEW in a way, 00:22:49.10\00:22:50.90 I wanted to take it under a different organization, 00:22:50.93\00:22:53.74 but then God just kept opening doors. 00:22:53.77\00:22:55.34 And I, about six months after my first time, 00:22:55.37\00:22:57.67 I went back to Africa 00:22:57.71\00:22:59.04 and I had my first official FARM STEW shirt on 00:22:59.07\00:23:02.51 with the children. 00:23:02.54\00:23:03.88 And you know, it's those kids, like some of them 00:23:03.91\00:23:06.45 you couldn't see in that picture, 00:23:06.48\00:23:07.82 but their bloated bellies, 00:23:07.85\00:23:09.18 you know, full of worms or malnutrition. 00:23:09.22\00:23:11.85 Some of them are just so struggling. 00:23:11.89\00:23:13.36 And I just, I knew we could make a difference 00:23:13.39\00:23:16.73 and I wanna show something. 00:23:16.76\00:23:18.16 This is a little tape that we have 00:23:18.19\00:23:20.53 and you know, 00:23:20.56\00:23:21.90 doctors wear a stethoscope around their neck. 00:23:21.93\00:23:23.73 Yes. 00:23:23.77\00:23:25.10 Well, this is a tool 00:23:25.13\00:23:26.47 for a public health nutritionist. 00:23:26.50\00:23:28.30 And what it is, 00:23:28.34\00:23:29.67 it's a measurement of what is called 00:23:29.70\00:23:31.84 the mid upper arm circumference. 00:23:31.87\00:23:33.48 So this is your upper arm. 00:23:33.51\00:23:34.84 And the mid-point is right here. 00:23:34.88\00:23:36.54 And I just wanna show 00:23:36.58\00:23:37.91 a little baby that we have here. 00:23:37.95\00:23:39.55 This baby is about the size of a preemie. 00:23:39.58\00:23:42.82 And you can see this little precious baby. 00:23:42.85\00:23:45.55 This tool is used for measuring children from five months to, 00:23:45.59\00:23:51.43 from I'm sorry, six months to five years old. 00:23:51.46\00:23:54.66 And you can look at it 00:23:54.70\00:23:56.10 and you put the little tape around 00:23:56.13\00:23:57.53 and then you pull it. 00:23:57.57\00:23:59.23 Maybe Cherri can pull it. 00:23:59.27\00:24:00.77 And it shows through the window what the measurement is. 00:24:00.80\00:24:03.10 And I don't know if the camera can come in real nice and close 00:24:03.14\00:24:06.07 and see that yellow color. 00:24:06.11\00:24:08.34 That means this child is at risk of malnutrition. 00:24:08.38\00:24:11.85 If it's red, they're severely malnourished. 00:24:11.88\00:24:14.22 Wow. 00:24:14.25\00:24:15.58 But this is a preemie, 00:24:15.62\00:24:17.22 you know, this, this baby's like 00:24:17.25\00:24:19.39 probably maybe a five-pound baby. 00:24:19.42\00:24:22.09 Did you know that up in South Sudan, 00:24:22.12\00:24:24.36 and this is just one example, 00:24:24.39\00:24:26.49 there's a church in Wau, South Sudan, 00:24:26.53\00:24:29.33 where there are 40 children in that one congregation 00:24:29.36\00:24:34.60 that are either in the yellow zone 00:24:34.64\00:24:36.77 or even the red zone. 00:24:36.81\00:24:38.61 And those are children from ages six months 00:24:38.64\00:24:41.58 to five years. 00:24:41.61\00:24:42.94 So we're talking little arms that are just bones. 00:24:42.98\00:24:45.95 Oh. 00:24:45.98\00:24:47.32 And these are church members' children, 00:24:47.35\00:24:50.45 and they are starving. 00:24:50.49\00:24:52.45 What do they eat? Porridge, N'shima, isn't it? 00:24:52.49\00:24:54.62 It's like a... 00:24:54.66\00:24:55.99 Yeah, N'shima is one word for it. 00:24:56.02\00:24:57.53 Basically, much of Africa now is eating corn porridge 00:24:57.56\00:25:01.76 as their primary food. 00:25:01.80\00:25:03.30 That's not nutritious, is it? 00:25:03.33\00:25:04.67 It's not enough. 00:25:04.70\00:25:06.13 And so we really want to teach them 00:25:06.17\00:25:08.20 to plant the gardens 00:25:08.24\00:25:09.57 and really develop the foods that they need 00:25:09.60\00:25:11.87 so that their children can thrive. 00:25:11.91\00:25:13.84 And I'll tell you, 00:25:13.88\00:25:15.21 in another part of South Sudan 00:25:15.24\00:25:16.58 where we've now been working for 18 months, 00:25:16.61\00:25:19.38 we were able to move 00:25:19.41\00:25:21.52 from having 59 percent of the kids 00:25:21.55\00:25:23.92 in this yellow or red zone down to only 3 percent. 00:25:23.95\00:25:27.96 So 97 percent of the kids 00:25:27.99\00:25:30.26 when we had worked for 15 months, 00:25:30.29\00:25:32.26 our trainers out training, 00:25:32.29\00:25:34.66 97 percent of the kids were in the green zone. 00:25:34.70\00:25:37.03 Wow. Exactly. 00:25:37.07\00:25:38.57 Wonderful. 00:25:38.60\00:25:39.93 So Jesus wants us to have abundant life. 00:25:39.97\00:25:41.64 And this is a simple tool. 00:25:41.67\00:25:43.00 I keep this hanging on my backpack 00:25:43.04\00:25:44.37 so I always remember why I do what I do. 00:25:44.41\00:25:46.37 I've never seen that before. 00:25:46.41\00:25:47.94 I'm going to give this to you as a memory. 00:25:47.98\00:25:49.68 Oh, thank you. 00:25:49.71\00:25:51.58 So yeah. 00:25:51.61\00:25:52.95 It's a powerful, powerful tool. 00:25:52.98\00:25:55.32 And I'll tell you, 00:25:55.35\00:25:56.69 I just wanna say something more about Cherri. 00:25:56.72\00:25:58.82 You know, I could not lead this organization alone. 00:25:58.85\00:26:02.19 Just like I have this tool 00:26:02.22\00:26:03.56 as a public health nutritionist, 00:26:03.59\00:26:05.09 she had other tools. 00:26:05.13\00:26:06.46 God had been preparing her in the gift of administration 00:26:06.49\00:26:09.66 and financial management. 00:26:09.70\00:26:11.40 She's been a church treasurer for decades. 00:26:11.43\00:26:14.30 Her gifts complement perfectly. 00:26:14.34\00:26:16.94 And when God calls, He equips. 00:26:16.97\00:26:18.57 And I've learned 00:26:18.61\00:26:19.94 He usually equips through other people. 00:26:19.97\00:26:22.78 That's right. And she is the outspoken. 00:26:22.81\00:26:25.75 She has the nutrition. 00:26:25.78\00:26:27.12 She has the things that I did not have 00:26:27.15\00:26:29.52 and together it made a ministry 00:26:29.55\00:26:31.62 and He would close the doors 00:26:31.65\00:26:33.69 whenever we wanted to try and have someone else do it. 00:26:33.72\00:26:36.62 He closed those doors to say, "I want you to do FARM STEW." 00:26:36.66\00:26:40.50 And there's so many miracle stories. 00:26:40.53\00:26:43.13 We don't have enough time today of saying 00:26:43.16\00:26:45.10 where Joy will just be in the place 00:26:45.13\00:26:46.94 at the right time 00:26:46.97\00:26:48.30 and the connection with a person is made. 00:26:48.34\00:26:51.47 Even down to one of our very first board members 00:26:51.51\00:26:54.64 was a doctor. 00:26:54.68\00:26:56.01 She went to Africa with Joy, 00:26:56.04\00:26:57.68 came back and told her to get connected with ASI 00:26:57.71\00:27:01.28 and through the connection with ASI 00:27:01.32\00:27:04.09 and the different connections, and now 3ABN with you guys, 00:27:04.12\00:27:08.32 that is what's expanding our ministry 00:27:08.36\00:27:10.53 because we don't have the marketing department 00:27:10.56\00:27:14.30 or something to go out. 00:27:14.33\00:27:15.66 We wanna keep all of the money going to Africa, 00:27:15.70\00:27:18.03 to the children and their families, 00:27:18.07\00:27:19.53 as much as we can. 00:27:19.57\00:27:20.90 You're audited? Yes. 00:27:20.94\00:27:22.60 You have a clean audit. Yeah. 00:27:22.64\00:27:24.57 So Cherri is like very particular 00:27:24.61\00:27:26.61 when we cook together, 00:27:26.64\00:27:28.08 actually now do cooking classes for our church and everything. 00:27:28.11\00:27:31.01 She measures everything perfectly. 00:27:31.05\00:27:33.35 And I'm like the more of those spontaneous type 00:27:33.38\00:27:35.85 where I'm just like, "Okay, that looks pretty good." 00:27:35.88\00:27:38.45 You know, big picture. 00:27:38.49\00:27:40.12 And I, we used to sometimes, 00:27:40.16\00:27:41.96 you know, 00:27:41.99\00:27:43.32 rub against each other a little bit, 00:27:43.36\00:27:44.69 but when we got audited 00:27:44.73\00:27:46.93 and every single thing was in place 00:27:46.96\00:27:49.23 and it was, the auditor said 00:27:49.26\00:27:50.60 it was one of the cleanest audits 00:27:50.63\00:27:51.97 he's ever seen, 00:27:52.00\00:27:53.34 I said, praise God for Cherri. 00:27:53.37\00:27:54.70 And we have a volunteer bookkeeper too. 00:27:54.74\00:27:56.71 Yes. 00:27:56.74\00:27:58.07 I couldn't do it without our volunteer bookkeeper 00:27:58.11\00:27:59.71 'cause he does the actual book side of it, 00:27:59.74\00:28:01.74 but I just help keep the receipts in 00:28:01.78\00:28:03.81 and make sure 00:28:03.85\00:28:05.18 we get all the right receipts that we need to do so... 00:28:05.21\00:28:08.18 You are the President of the Lake Union ASI. 00:28:08.22\00:28:10.85 Yes. 00:28:10.89\00:28:12.22 And we actually have a picture from our ASI conference. 00:28:12.25\00:28:15.32 Our first one, I didn't know about ASI and I, 00:28:15.36\00:28:18.53 I know 3ABN is also members of ASI... 00:28:18.56\00:28:20.60 And who is that? 00:28:20.63\00:28:22.10 Patricia LaVanture and then Christina Brown, 00:28:22.13\00:28:25.03 who was one of our board members. 00:28:25.07\00:28:27.47 And we were, we really praise God for them. 00:28:27.50\00:28:31.04 And that's my union, Lake Union. 00:28:31.07\00:28:32.54 That's true. That's wonderful. 00:28:38.91\00:28:41.38 That's what, I'm listening to this wonderful story 00:28:41.42\00:28:43.39 unfold about how God takes people 00:28:43.42\00:28:45.95 that are most unlikely to make it happen on their own. 00:28:45.99\00:28:49.76 Even when you just shared that, I was thinking, 00:28:49.79\00:28:51.46 you didn't wanna do this. 00:28:51.49\00:28:52.83 You said all these doors God is closing for people 00:28:52.86\00:28:55.06 that you're trying to get to do what God called you to do. 00:28:55.10\00:28:57.40 Right. 00:28:57.43\00:28:58.83 He has a way of bringing it all back 00:28:58.87\00:29:01.10 to where he wants it to be. 00:29:01.14\00:29:02.60 And then when you look back at it, 00:29:02.64\00:29:04.14 the timing is perfect. 00:29:04.17\00:29:05.84 The plan is perfect for what he's wanting to do. 00:29:05.87\00:29:10.01 And I believe, as Joy, 00:29:10.05\00:29:11.38 that this FARM STEW message is an in-time message, 00:29:11.41\00:29:14.18 the help for the children, the help for the families, 00:29:14.22\00:29:16.42 even down to the, 00:29:16.45\00:29:18.15 we also work with the pads for girls 00:29:18.19\00:29:21.12 and we give them, 00:29:21.16\00:29:22.49 'cause so many girls have to quit school at age 12. 00:29:22.52\00:29:26.59 Yes. 00:29:26.63\00:29:28.10 So tell us about that, Joy. Yes. 00:29:28.13\00:29:29.46 I brought a packet of the pads that we provide. 00:29:29.50\00:29:32.93 There's actually 2,000 of these on their way to Cuba right now. 00:29:32.97\00:29:37.34 We've distributed many, close to 10, 000 pads 00:29:37.37\00:29:41.68 over the last five or so years to girls 00:29:41.71\00:29:44.31 to help them stay at school. 00:29:44.35\00:29:45.68 So we became moms because of our friendship 00:29:45.71\00:29:47.85 and our care for our own girls. 00:29:47.88\00:29:49.58 Now, these set of pads, some of them that we buy, 00:29:49.62\00:29:52.95 we buy in Africa. 00:29:52.99\00:29:54.32 These ones were made by a group called Days for Girls. 00:29:54.36\00:29:56.93 So I'll make a little bit of a mess, 00:29:56.96\00:29:58.36 but they're pads. 00:29:58.39\00:30:00.13 And then we have the soap... 00:30:00.16\00:30:01.50 Reusable. 00:30:01.53\00:30:02.86 Washable cloth pads, right. 00:30:02.90\00:30:04.67 So they have the little pads and then the soap 00:30:04.70\00:30:06.97 and this can make the difference. 00:30:07.00\00:30:09.67 We call it "freedom from shame" 00:30:09.70\00:30:11.87 between a girl, 00:30:11.91\00:30:13.24 not going to school a week a month, 00:30:13.27\00:30:14.88 you can imagine they drop out quite soon then, 00:30:14.91\00:30:17.55 to actually excelling in their school. 00:30:17.58\00:30:19.45 And you know, 00:30:19.48\00:30:20.82 when a woman 00:30:20.85\00:30:22.18 or a young girl gets an education, 00:30:22.22\00:30:23.55 she's much less likely to have impoverished children. 00:30:23.59\00:30:26.65 So that's kind of the link back to childhood malnutrition 00:30:26.69\00:30:29.66 and wanting people to have an abundant life. 00:30:29.69\00:30:32.79 Wow, that's it. 00:30:32.83\00:30:34.43 I'm just sitting here enjoying this transaction 00:30:34.46\00:30:36.70 between the three of you, 00:30:36.73\00:30:38.10 because this is something that really, 00:30:38.13\00:30:40.54 and you go back to the female component. 00:30:40.57\00:30:42.27 I'm just going to do that. 00:30:42.30\00:30:43.81 I'm an observer today 00:30:43.84\00:30:45.17 and I'm just enjoying what I'm hearing. 00:30:45.21\00:30:46.54 You're doing a great job, honey, 00:30:46.57\00:30:48.11 how God is really working through the lives of people 00:30:48.14\00:30:51.05 that God says, 00:30:51.08\00:30:52.98 you made a statement a moment ago, 00:30:53.01\00:30:54.82 "God qualifies those He calls." 00:30:54.85\00:30:57.72 And you never think about, 00:30:57.75\00:30:59.19 you didn't think about what you're doing, 00:30:59.22\00:31:01.06 but God says, 00:31:01.09\00:31:02.42 "Hmm, who could I connect together? 00:31:02.46\00:31:04.23 Cherri and Joy." 00:31:04.26\00:31:06.56 And that almost sounds like, you know, 00:31:06.59\00:31:09.20 something that you're joyful at what you do, 00:31:09.23\00:31:11.53 and she's the cherry on your sundae. 00:31:11.57\00:31:14.44 Absolutely. To top it off. 00:31:14.47\00:31:16.54 And you both have different gifts 00:31:16.57\00:31:18.64 that complement each other. 00:31:18.67\00:31:20.01 And God in qualifying you from birth, 00:31:20.04\00:31:22.24 coming up on a farm, 00:31:22.28\00:31:24.21 learning about how to do vegetables 00:31:24.25\00:31:26.88 and all these things, 00:31:26.92\00:31:28.38 nothing God does is coincidental. 00:31:28.42\00:31:30.92 We can trace way back how God works. 00:31:30.95\00:31:33.52 Exactly. 00:31:33.56\00:31:34.89 That's so true. 00:31:34.92\00:31:36.26 And I think one of the things that I am so excited about is 00:31:36.29\00:31:39.49 that FARM STEW is not about giving things out. 00:31:39.53\00:31:42.66 And we actually have a slide 00:31:42.70\00:31:44.07 where there's a quote that I love 00:31:44.10\00:31:45.80 and it's actually showing a family's home, 00:31:45.83\00:31:47.90 a refugee family's home, 00:31:47.94\00:31:49.84 where it shows this quote from Sister White. 00:31:49.87\00:31:52.41 It says, 00:31:52.44\00:31:53.78 "You may give to the poor, and injure them, 00:31:53.81\00:31:56.38 because you teach them to be dependent. 00:31:56.41\00:31:59.11 Instead, teach them to support themselves. 00:31:59.15\00:32:02.42 This will be true help. 00:32:02.45\00:32:05.22 The needy must be placed in positions 00:32:05.25\00:32:07.79 where they can help themselves." 00:32:07.82\00:32:09.82 And that's what we see God calling us to do, 00:32:09.86\00:32:12.39 is to be those people 00:32:12.43\00:32:14.10 that help our brothers and sisters, 00:32:14.13\00:32:16.13 those parents in Wau, South Sudan, 00:32:16.16\00:32:19.03 whose little children's arms 00:32:19.07\00:32:21.20 are just in this tiny yellow or red zone, 00:32:21.24\00:32:24.17 helping them by providing seeds 00:32:24.21\00:32:27.01 and providing agricultural skills 00:32:27.04\00:32:28.84 and providing information 00:32:28.88\00:32:30.21 about what they need to eat 00:32:30.25\00:32:31.58 in addition to the corn porridge. 00:32:31.61\00:32:33.31 And I think that's one of the things 00:32:33.35\00:32:34.75 that impressed me so much when I went to Africa, 00:32:34.78\00:32:38.09 what I saw in the people I met 00:32:38.12\00:32:40.69 is they just wanted to learn more. 00:32:40.72\00:32:42.59 They kept saying, "Can you come to our village and teach us?" 00:32:42.62\00:32:45.93 And I think that's the key thing 00:32:45.96\00:32:47.76 is just remembering people, 00:32:47.80\00:32:49.70 empowering people, 00:32:49.73\00:32:51.67 gives them a sense of pride and a sense of duty. 00:32:51.70\00:32:54.50 And I think that's what we want to do with them. 00:32:54.54\00:32:57.37 Wow. It's beautiful. 00:32:57.41\00:32:58.74 And there's a picture we have of Cherri 00:32:58.77\00:33:01.34 actually making the soy milk with the refugee women 00:33:01.38\00:33:04.71 and with one of our trainers. 00:33:04.75\00:33:06.78 And it was so exciting 00:33:06.82\00:33:08.55 because they just use what they have, 00:33:08.58\00:33:11.09 the little bucket and everything, 00:33:11.12\00:33:12.65 but they were so thrilled. 00:33:12.69\00:33:14.82 And this is in one of those camps 00:33:14.86\00:33:16.19 where that green cow 00:33:16.22\00:33:17.56 can actually make peace amongst different even tribal groups. 00:33:17.59\00:33:21.16 Wow. I won't soon forget that term. 00:33:21.20\00:33:23.50 Green cow. 00:33:23.53\00:33:25.33 We don't have any here in the Midwest. 00:33:25.37\00:33:26.70 No. 00:33:26.74\00:33:28.07 We have brown and black. 00:33:28.10\00:33:29.94 That's an amazing... 00:33:29.97\00:33:31.31 simply meaning the soybean. 00:33:31.34\00:33:33.61 Exactly. 00:33:33.64\00:33:34.98 And we use that a lot because 00:33:35.01\00:33:36.34 the protein quality in the soybean 00:33:36.38\00:33:38.31 is just exceptional among beans. 00:33:38.35\00:33:41.15 And so when we teach them to soak it, 00:33:41.18\00:33:43.55 which removes some of the things 00:33:43.59\00:33:44.95 that make it harder to digest 00:33:44.99\00:33:46.76 and then pound it and cook it, 00:33:46.79\00:33:48.82 it makes all the nutrition. 00:33:48.86\00:33:50.19 They're very bioavailable. 00:33:50.23\00:33:52.43 And we teach all the simple things. 00:33:52.46\00:33:53.80 We're very excited about something. 00:33:53.83\00:33:55.16 We have our FARM STEW curriculum. 00:33:55.20\00:33:58.27 And if you zoom in close, 00:33:58.30\00:33:59.63 you'll see this one is in Spanish. 00:33:59.67\00:34:01.67 So we've recently launched a work in Cuba 00:34:01.70\00:34:04.87 and we are thrilled 00:34:04.91\00:34:06.24 because there's a lot of food insecurity 00:34:06.27\00:34:08.84 in Cuba right now 00:34:08.88\00:34:10.21 the island especially during COVID 00:34:10.25\00:34:11.88 has been kind of constrained with what they can bring in. 00:34:11.91\00:34:15.58 So they've got to learn to grow it themselves. 00:34:15.62\00:34:18.22 And our manual is just full of information 00:34:18.25\00:34:20.32 about how to help families to thrive, 00:34:20.36\00:34:22.39 right where they are. 00:34:22.42\00:34:23.76 Wow. 00:34:23.79\00:34:25.13 Now in Cuba, this is, I have family in Cuba also. 00:34:25.16\00:34:28.16 So this is, touches my heart. 00:34:28.20\00:34:30.67 And Cuba has 100 pastors. 00:34:30.70\00:34:33.57 And from what I understand, and 300 Bible workers 00:34:33.60\00:34:36.20 and few of them have cars. 00:34:36.24\00:34:38.37 What is FARM STEW doing to help the brethren in Cuba? 00:34:38.41\00:34:43.11 Well, Cherri mentioned the ASI connection. 00:34:43.14\00:34:45.25 And that's what's really cool. 00:34:45.28\00:34:46.68 This body of Christ is actually working. 00:34:46.72\00:34:48.25 There's many members, different parts, 00:34:48.28\00:34:49.75 doing different things. 00:34:49.78\00:34:51.19 And we realized Care for Cuba is a ministry 00:34:51.22\00:34:54.56 connected with Andrews University 00:34:54.59\00:34:55.92 and World Youth Group is a ministry 00:34:55.96\00:34:57.76 that's been working in Cuba for many years. 00:34:57.79\00:34:59.26 They have together 100 Bible workers, 00:34:59.29\00:35:02.40 and we actually combined together 00:35:02.43\00:35:04.90 to have a container 00:35:04.93\00:35:06.50 that's going to be shipped to Cuba. 00:35:06.53\00:35:08.37 Even though flights are canceled, 00:35:08.40\00:35:09.74 the containers can still get there 00:35:09.77\00:35:11.44 with our manuals, with flash drives with, 00:35:11.47\00:35:14.08 like I said, 2, 000 of those kits for girls 00:35:14.11\00:35:17.11 and also 100 bicycles 00:35:17.15\00:35:19.31 so that those workers can get out to see the people. 00:35:19.35\00:35:22.05 And... Amen. 00:37:02.35\00:37:04.19 Well, one of the things 00:37:04.22\00:37:05.69 that my husband and I fell in love with, 00:37:05.72\00:37:07.39 with FARM STEW 00:37:07.42\00:37:08.76 is the fact that each Bible, each lesson 00:37:08.79\00:37:12.19 has a biblical background to it. 00:37:12.23\00:37:13.56 Amen. 00:37:13.60\00:37:14.93 So you're bringing them back to the Bible. 00:37:14.96\00:37:16.70 Starting the very first one 00:37:16.73\00:37:18.77 where Joy brought up the fact that 00:37:18.80\00:37:20.44 farming was the very first occupation 00:37:20.47\00:37:22.84 that God gave us. 00:37:22.87\00:37:24.21 That's right. 00:37:24.24\00:37:25.57 You wanna tell them a little more? 00:37:25.61\00:37:26.94 Sure. 00:37:26.98\00:37:28.31 So yeah, we, in a lot of these cultures, 00:37:28.34\00:37:29.84 farming is kind of seen as a work for poor people. 00:37:29.88\00:37:33.15 And in fact, because many of them don't know 00:37:33.18\00:37:35.25 how to do it well, they do end up being poor. 00:37:35.28\00:37:37.92 But we know farmers can have a very profitable business 00:37:37.95\00:37:41.92 if they do it well. 00:37:41.96\00:37:43.29 And if they can, what we call, value addition, 00:37:43.32\00:37:45.79 so our E stands for enterprise. 00:37:45.83\00:37:48.30 So we teach people to add value to the food, 00:37:48.33\00:37:50.83 like by making the soy milk or other soy products. 00:37:50.87\00:37:54.34 And then they can actually sell that 00:37:54.37\00:37:55.84 for a higher price 00:37:55.87\00:37:57.21 and make more money 00:37:57.24\00:37:58.57 so they can send their own kids to school 00:37:58.61\00:38:00.34 and even have plenty to tithe and build the local church 00:38:00.38\00:38:03.61 through being tithing members. 00:38:03.65\00:38:05.81 I like that, value enterprise. Wow. 00:38:05.85\00:38:07.45 Now we have Malawi Adventist University. 00:38:07.48\00:38:11.42 What are you doing for them out there? 00:38:11.45\00:38:13.29 How do you connect? 00:38:13.32\00:38:14.69 Yes, well, we've had our curriculum 00:38:14.72\00:38:17.49 and we've just been trying to figure out, 00:38:17.53\00:38:19.19 we encourage people to share the recipe 00:38:19.23\00:38:21.23 of abundant life. 00:38:21.26\00:38:22.60 So we kind of looked at ourselves, 00:38:22.63\00:38:23.97 how can we share it? 00:38:24.00\00:38:25.33 And praise God, 00:38:25.37\00:38:26.70 there's a woman named Sharon Pittman 00:38:26.74\00:38:28.07 who is now leading Malawi Adventist University. 00:38:28.10\00:38:31.21 And she said, 00:38:31.24\00:38:32.57 "We have an online platform and we can teach it 00:38:32.61\00:38:36.21 not only to our students on campus, 00:38:36.24\00:38:37.81 but anywhere around the world, 00:38:37.85\00:38:39.18 people could sign up 00:38:39.21\00:38:40.62 and it's gonna be led by Malawian professor, " 00:38:40.65\00:38:43.22 who's a nutrition professor. 00:38:43.25\00:38:44.59 Her name is Larisha, 00:38:44.62\00:38:46.02 and she's going to be leading the teaching. 00:38:46.05\00:38:48.72 And then we're gonna be having hands on 00:38:48.76\00:38:50.36 practical lessons on the campus 00:38:50.39\00:38:52.59 so people can get certified 00:38:52.63\00:38:54.20 and trained anywhere in the world. 00:38:54.23\00:38:56.00 And that will be 00:38:56.03\00:38:57.37 for the Southern Africa-Indian division. 00:38:57.40\00:38:59.03 We are actually talking 00:38:59.07\00:39:00.40 to a couple other universities too, 00:39:00.44\00:39:01.77 one in Rwanda 00:39:01.80\00:39:03.14 that wants us to do something similar. 00:39:03.17\00:39:04.87 And I even had a conversation 00:39:04.91\00:39:06.27 with the Middle East-North Africa division recently. 00:39:06.31\00:39:10.48 So we wanna get this message out there. 00:39:10.51\00:39:12.98 You can find that information on our website. 00:39:13.01\00:39:15.28 Like I said, just click on the "recipe" 00:39:15.32\00:39:17.69 and the information is there, 00:39:17.72\00:39:19.05 but we're excited, 00:39:19.09\00:39:21.02 Malawi Adventist University too, 00:39:21.06\00:39:22.56 the other thing we want to do there 00:39:22.59\00:39:23.93 is start a food business 00:39:23.96\00:39:25.89 that can actually start to sell food, health food 00:39:25.93\00:39:29.83 that can help to raise 00:39:29.86\00:39:31.50 also the money to fund the trainers 00:39:31.53\00:39:33.50 that go out and do the hands-on classes. 00:39:33.54\00:39:35.90 That's great. 00:39:35.94\00:39:37.31 And FARM STEW does change lives. 00:39:37.34\00:39:39.67 You have a, I looked at your website 00:39:39.71\00:39:42.21 and Ruth and Patrick, 00:39:42.24\00:39:43.58 they have a great story from you. 00:39:43.61\00:39:46.18 They're from Uganda. Yeah, exactly. 00:39:46.21\00:39:48.48 Ruth is a very fun story because she was not Adventist. 00:39:48.52\00:39:53.36 She learned about our message. 00:39:53.39\00:39:54.72 And in the rest lesson, we talk about Sabbath. 00:39:54.76\00:39:57.76 We talk also about rest for the land 00:39:57.79\00:39:59.69 and she got convicted, 00:39:59.73\00:40:01.06 like many have, wanted to keep the Sabbath, 00:40:01.10\00:40:04.10 but she was doing it somewhat secretly for a while. 00:40:04.13\00:40:06.53 Wow. 00:40:06.57\00:40:07.90 But when I met her, she and Patrick had, 00:40:07.94\00:40:11.27 she had already brought the message of FARM STEW 00:40:11.31\00:40:13.31 to about four neighboring villages. 00:40:13.34\00:40:15.98 And she had all these innovations. 00:40:16.01\00:40:17.35 For example, she had a hand-washing station 00:40:17.38\00:40:19.28 that we had taught 00:40:19.31\00:40:20.98 how to wash their hands with very limited water, 00:40:21.02\00:40:22.98 but she had covered the soap with a bottle, 00:40:23.02\00:40:26.52 a cut plastic bottles 00:40:26.55\00:40:27.89 so that in the rain, the soap wouldn't dissolve. 00:40:27.92\00:40:30.33 Just very clever woman. 00:40:30.36\00:40:32.16 And yeah, there's a few websites. 00:40:32.19\00:40:34.63 I mean, on our website, 00:40:34.66\00:40:36.00 there's several testimonies like that, 00:40:36.03\00:40:37.40 where you can just see the joy that FARM STEW has brought. 00:40:37.43\00:40:41.84 And they are, they have gone to what, 00:40:41.87\00:40:44.07 six other villages 00:40:44.11\00:40:45.54 and they're teaching them how to make soy milk. 00:40:45.57\00:40:48.21 Exactly. 00:40:48.24\00:40:49.58 And other things, planting and many other things. 00:40:49.61\00:40:52.68 Yeah. 00:40:52.71\00:40:54.28 When we talk about FARM STEW, 00:40:54.32\00:40:56.52 I just had a chance to bring up your website 00:40:56.55\00:40:58.72 and we'll let the viewers and listeners know 00:40:58.75\00:41:01.02 how they can go there. 00:41:01.06\00:41:02.52 It's exciting to see that the gospel is going forward. 00:41:02.56\00:41:06.16 You know, also in the book of James, 00:41:06.19\00:41:07.76 it talks about 00:41:07.80\00:41:09.13 if somebody is hungry and destitute and naked, 00:41:09.16\00:41:11.70 and you just say, go ahead, and be warmed. 00:41:11.73\00:41:14.74 You've done nothing for them, but if you clothe them, 00:41:14.77\00:41:17.34 if you feed them, 00:41:17.37\00:41:18.94 it opens their door to say, 00:41:18.97\00:41:20.81 "I like my life. 00:41:20.84\00:41:22.18 You've been already transformed my life, 00:41:22.21\00:41:23.88 now I want to find out about the Christ in your life." 00:41:23.91\00:41:27.18 Talk about your donation base a little bit, 00:41:27.22\00:41:29.82 because we're going to reach out to those 00:41:29.85\00:41:31.35 who are watching and listening to the program. 00:41:31.39\00:41:33.96 What are some of the areas? 00:41:33.99\00:41:35.49 Is it just primarily all supported by donations 00:41:35.52\00:41:38.29 or kind of let me understand that? 00:41:38.33\00:41:39.69 We are supported by donations primarily from individuals. 00:41:39.73\00:41:45.03 We do have one grant that we have gotten, 00:41:45.07\00:41:48.47 we are trying to establish the food business to help 00:41:48.50\00:41:52.94 support the ministry, 00:41:52.97\00:41:54.48 but it is primarily people's donations that we get 00:41:54.51\00:41:58.38 that keep the ministry going. 00:41:58.41\00:42:00.45 Well, and also ASI, I have to say, 00:42:00.48\00:42:02.48 has been a wonderful supporter too. 00:42:02.52\00:42:04.62 And we praise God for the ASI members. 00:42:04.65\00:42:07.26 And I think that's how I ended up 00:42:07.29\00:42:08.62 becoming president of Lake Union. 00:42:08.66\00:42:10.39 'Cause I just, I love that. 00:42:10.43\00:42:12.29 And then I'll also say 00:42:12.33\00:42:13.66 a number of our donors are saying, you know, 00:42:13.70\00:42:15.03 "What are you doing for America?" 00:42:15.06\00:42:16.40 Like we have our challenges too. 00:42:16.43\00:42:17.87 We, this health message, it may be is relevant. 00:42:17.90\00:42:21.10 And so again, 00:42:21.14\00:42:23.04 we decided to come up with a wellness guide for us, 00:42:23.07\00:42:26.64 where we take the each letter of FARM STEW 00:42:26.68\00:42:29.58 and we make it pertinent to us. 00:42:29.61\00:42:31.78 For example, right now many people are in fear, 00:42:31.81\00:42:34.32 you know, over COVID and everything. 00:42:34.35\00:42:36.42 But we know that a merry heart is good medicine. 00:42:36.45\00:42:39.22 Right? That's true. 00:42:39.25\00:42:40.59 And you know, we want people to understand 00:42:40.62\00:42:43.16 what they can do to boost their immunity, 00:42:43.19\00:42:45.69 even, you know, 00:42:45.73\00:42:47.16 getting out in the garden, having that fresh air, 00:42:47.20\00:42:50.43 that exercise, that sunshine. 00:42:50.47\00:42:51.80 And even there's microbes in the soil, 00:42:51.83\00:42:53.80 some of which are actually very beneficial 00:42:53.84\00:42:55.44 even for our lungs and the health of our lungs. 00:42:55.47\00:42:58.14 So we want people to get out and again, on our website, 00:42:58.17\00:43:00.71 if you go to the FarmStew.org, 00:43:00.74\00:43:02.08 it's you just wait about 10 seconds 00:43:02.11\00:43:04.08 and there's a wellness guide 00:43:04.11\00:43:05.45 that will pop up as a free download. 00:43:05.48\00:43:08.12 So that's something 00:43:08.15\00:43:09.48 we wanted to give back to our donor base. 00:43:09.52\00:43:11.05 They've given so much to us. 00:43:11.09\00:43:12.69 We're now in five countries... 00:43:12.72\00:43:14.49 And what countries do you serve? 00:43:14.52\00:43:16.69 So Cherri... 00:43:16.73\00:43:18.06 We serve in Cuba, Zimbabwe, Uganda, South Sudan... 00:43:18.09\00:43:23.26 And now Malawi. And now Malawi. 00:43:23.30\00:43:25.13 Wow. Wow. Expanding tremendously. 00:43:25.17\00:43:27.84 And that, but you have some more pictures here. 00:43:27.87\00:43:29.44 I think we have enough time 00:43:29.47\00:43:30.81 to get some more of them in there 00:43:30.84\00:43:32.17 and kind of look at. 00:43:32.21\00:43:33.54 Yeah, you have one with you guys 00:43:33.58\00:43:34.91 making soy milk. 00:43:34.94\00:43:36.28 I think we showed that one. Didn't we? 00:43:36.31\00:43:37.65 Yeah. 00:43:37.68\00:43:39.01 So then I just wanna share it so funny 00:43:39.05\00:43:41.72 when Cherri first met me, 00:43:41.75\00:43:43.15 she was out doing evangelism, local evangelism, 00:43:43.18\00:43:45.39 and then now we go to our own booths 00:43:45.42\00:43:48.12 and we have a FARM STEW booth 00:43:48.16\00:43:49.82 where we're, where we're trying to reach out 00:43:49.86\00:43:52.53 and actually use FARM STEW, as a tool for local evangelism 00:43:52.56\00:43:55.80 in our own community. 00:43:55.83\00:43:57.17 So this was at our local fair, 00:43:57.20\00:43:59.27 or it's not this past year because of COVID, 00:43:59.30\00:44:01.47 but we're gonna be reaching out in various ways. 00:44:01.50\00:44:04.81 And then we also did a virtual cooking class. 00:44:04.84\00:44:08.71 That's the very last picture that we had 00:44:08.74\00:44:11.31 where we're reaching out 00:44:11.35\00:44:12.68 and actually teaching people cooking classes online. 00:44:12.71\00:44:16.28 Yeah. 00:44:16.32\00:44:17.95 So, and this is actually a new baptized member 00:44:17.99\00:44:19.95 in between us 00:44:19.99\00:44:21.32 who's come in with our friendship, 00:44:21.36\00:44:23.59 you know, she's come in 00:44:23.63\00:44:24.96 and other people have come into our church. 00:44:24.99\00:44:26.49 I think, you know, in part 00:44:26.53\00:44:27.86 just our friendship speaks volumes to people, you know, 00:44:27.90\00:44:31.97 and I praise God for it every day. 00:44:32.00\00:44:34.84 What are some of the needs 00:44:34.87\00:44:36.20 that you would express you have? 00:44:36.24\00:44:37.71 I know we talked about donations and coming in ASI, 00:44:37.74\00:44:40.84 praise the Lord 00:44:40.88\00:44:42.21 once again, thank you for being in our union, 00:44:42.24\00:44:44.15 but what are some of the needs you see 00:44:44.18\00:44:46.05 that could be a part of expanding your ministry 00:44:46.08\00:44:48.38 and making the ministry of FARM STEW more effective? 00:44:48.42\00:44:55.22 Well, I really believe that 00:44:55.26\00:44:57.66 just the ongoing support 00:44:57.69\00:44:59.46 where we can count and plan ahead, 00:44:59.49\00:45:01.36 you know, the monthly support 00:45:01.40\00:45:03.03 where we know we can have our trainers 00:45:03.06\00:45:05.47 and I do have a picture of our trainers 00:45:05.50\00:45:07.30 with a bunch of cans of seeds 00:45:07.34\00:45:09.94 that I just wanna share. 00:45:09.97\00:45:11.31 So that's one of the things we buy is the seeds 00:45:11.34\00:45:14.11 for our trainers 00:45:14.14\00:45:15.48 so that they can go out and teach the planting methods. 00:45:15.51\00:45:19.81 So we do gardens. 00:45:19.85\00:45:21.18 And then we also realized that 00:45:21.22\00:45:22.55 in a lot of the communities we serve, 00:45:22.58\00:45:24.25 people do not have good quality water. 00:45:24.29\00:45:27.12 And I'm thrilled to say, in 2020, 00:45:27.16\00:45:31.59 we were actually able to either repair or drill 31 new wells 00:45:31.63\00:45:36.50 in the communities where we've been serving. 00:45:36.53\00:45:38.67 In Eastern Uganda? 00:45:38.70\00:45:40.10 Yes, yes. 00:45:40.14\00:45:41.60 And our plan for 2021 is that 00:45:41.64\00:45:43.97 we build 50 new wells this year 00:45:44.01\00:45:47.18 because the needs are tremendous. 00:45:47.21\00:45:48.78 Can you imagine 00:45:48.81\00:45:50.15 trying to keep your family healthy 00:45:50.18\00:45:51.51 without access to clean water? 00:45:51.55\00:45:53.21 And we were in a village in Africa 00:45:53.25\00:45:54.72 when we went to Nairobi 00:45:54.75\00:45:57.52 a number of years ago, not the Nakuta but even, 00:45:57.55\00:46:00.99 and we went way out and we saw, 00:46:01.02\00:46:02.82 I think it was a Maasai tribe. 00:46:02.86\00:46:04.46 They're tall and very skinny 00:46:04.49\00:46:06.03 and beautifully clad in this colorful outfits, 00:46:06.06\00:46:08.40 but they had no water in the village. 00:46:08.43\00:46:11.50 We said, well, how do you get water? 00:46:11.53\00:46:12.87 Well, they had to walk. 00:46:12.90\00:46:14.87 And then they had this rickety motorcycle 00:46:14.90\00:46:17.81 that I tried to ride. 00:46:17.84\00:46:19.47 I was not as tall as they are. 00:46:19.51\00:46:21.91 And then when I tried to ride it, my wife said, 00:46:21.94\00:46:23.48 "Don't go too far," 00:46:23.51\00:46:24.95 because you know, they say, 00:46:24.98\00:46:26.31 "Well, there are animals that are free roaming out 00:46:26.35\00:46:28.65 in some of those areas," 00:46:28.68\00:46:30.09 but they had no water. 00:46:30.12\00:46:31.82 So they had to walk a long way for water 00:46:31.85\00:46:34.16 or people had to bring water 00:46:34.19\00:46:35.69 so that when you talk about 31 wells 00:46:35.72\00:46:37.63 and want to add 50 more, 00:46:37.66\00:46:39.36 Africa is a major continent 00:46:39.39\00:46:41.06 and a lot of these countries don't have water, 00:46:41.10\00:46:43.67 which is the bare essential 00:46:43.70\00:46:45.80 for cleaning internally and externally. 00:46:45.83\00:46:48.50 Exactly. 00:46:48.54\00:46:49.87 So how do you see FARM STEW 00:46:49.90\00:46:51.24 impacting the world in the future? 00:46:51.27\00:46:53.64 Well, we have these five freedoms. 00:46:53.68\00:46:55.68 And actually when I was preparing, 00:46:55.71\00:46:57.05 I was thinking about Jill 00:46:57.08\00:46:58.41 because I always watch 3ABN Sabbath School. 00:46:58.45\00:47:01.48 Jill always has her list. 00:47:01.52\00:47:02.85 Yes, she has. Okay. 00:47:02.88\00:47:04.22 It's made an impact. So this is my list. 00:47:04.25\00:47:06.65 We have a passion for freedom. 00:47:06.69\00:47:08.62 You know, all of us are made to be free 00:47:08.66\00:47:10.96 and Jesus sets us free. 00:47:10.99\00:47:12.66 So our first freedom is freedom from dependency. 00:47:12.69\00:47:16.10 We don't want people to just want handouts. 00:47:16.13\00:47:18.17 We want them to be able to take care of themselves. 00:47:18.20\00:47:20.34 So that's the garden 00:47:20.37\00:47:21.70 and the enterprise classes and whatnot. 00:47:21.74\00:47:23.77 So that supports our trainers to go out. 00:47:23.81\00:47:25.91 The next is freedom from shame. 00:47:25.94\00:47:27.68 We talked about the girls 00:47:27.71\00:47:29.54 having the menstrual hygiene 00:47:29.58\00:47:31.31 and the education about their bodies. 00:47:31.35\00:47:32.68 So they're not scared of their bodies. 00:47:32.71\00:47:34.28 They're proud and happy to be women. 00:47:34.32\00:47:36.99 The next is freedom from disease 00:47:37.02\00:47:38.39 and drudgery. 00:47:38.42\00:47:39.75 So that's the water projects, 00:47:39.79\00:47:41.42 because like you said, 00:47:41.46\00:47:42.79 that drudgery of just walking and carrying water, 00:47:42.82\00:47:45.43 be miserable, it takes hours out of people's 00:47:45.46\00:47:47.53 otherwise productive time 00:47:47.56\00:47:48.90 where they could be in the garden, 00:47:48.93\00:47:50.27 growing food, 00:47:50.30\00:47:51.63 they're just trudging back and forth. 00:47:51.67\00:47:53.00 And it brings them disease 00:47:53.03\00:47:54.37 when they're drinking dirty water. 00:47:54.40\00:47:55.74 So those are the three freedoms from, 00:47:55.77\00:47:58.14 and then we have two freedoms for. 00:47:58.17\00:48:00.68 So there's freedom to share. 00:48:00.71\00:48:03.88 So we want to be able to share this curriculum 00:48:03.91\00:48:06.41 as broadly and as widely as we can. 00:48:06.45\00:48:08.38 We wanna to print these manuals. 00:48:08.42\00:48:09.75 These are about $15 to print. 00:48:09.78\00:48:11.45 And then we have a flip chart that costs in general, 00:48:11.49\00:48:14.52 about $40 to print. 00:48:14.56\00:48:15.89 It's a nice, big flip chart 00:48:15.92\00:48:17.56 that shows the pictures from here 00:48:17.59\00:48:19.59 so that anybody can educate anywhere 00:48:19.63\00:48:21.43 where there's not electricity. 00:48:21.46\00:48:22.96 Part of the curriculum. Yeah. 00:48:23.00\00:48:24.63 And we also are translating 00:48:24.67\00:48:26.07 like I was on the phone with our team 00:48:26.10\00:48:27.54 from South Sudan yesterday. 00:48:27.57\00:48:28.90 We need all these materials in Arabic. 00:48:28.94\00:48:31.17 We have them in Spanish. 00:48:31.21\00:48:32.64 We need them in Arabic. We need them in Swahili. 00:48:32.67\00:48:35.38 Our website is now in five languages, 00:48:35.41\00:48:37.18 but we need to get our manuals. 00:48:37.21\00:48:39.25 And of course that costs money, the translation. 00:48:39.28\00:48:42.65 And then finally our last freedom 00:48:42.68\00:48:44.29 is freedom to grow. 00:48:44.32\00:48:46.35 So that will allow us 00:48:46.39\00:48:47.72 to just create these new bold partnerships, 00:48:47.76\00:48:50.29 like the one with Malawi Adventist University. 00:48:50.33\00:48:52.99 We're hiring one of their professors. 00:48:53.03\00:48:54.90 We're doing a pilot study out in villages 00:48:54.93\00:48:57.50 and really being able to examine the difference, 00:48:57.53\00:49:01.27 the impact from the baseline 00:49:01.30\00:49:03.34 where kids are now 00:49:03.37\00:49:04.71 only seven percent of their kids 00:49:04.74\00:49:06.07 are getting the nutrition they need in Malawi. 00:49:06.11\00:49:08.04 Seven percent? Yeah. 00:49:08.08\00:49:10.01 And then we wanna see the impact 00:49:10.05\00:49:11.71 over the next few years, 00:49:11.75\00:49:13.08 what kind of impact can we make? 00:49:13.11\00:49:14.85 So those are our five freedoms. 00:49:14.88\00:49:16.48 Five freedoms. That's wonderful. 00:49:16.52\00:49:18.79 Anything else, hun? 00:49:18.82\00:49:20.32 I'm just excited to see 00:49:20.36\00:49:21.79 what the Lord is doing with FARM STEW 00:49:21.82\00:49:25.33 and your partner here, Cherri, 00:49:25.36\00:49:30.27 as you said, she's the cherry on top, right? 00:49:30.30\00:49:32.27 Exactly. 00:49:32.30\00:49:33.80 And so the Lord is blessing, malnutrition is real, isn't it? 00:49:33.84\00:49:37.24 It is very real. 00:49:37.27\00:49:38.61 It is real. 00:49:38.64\00:49:39.97 And when you go, 00:49:40.01\00:49:41.34 you have to deal with malnutrition, 00:49:41.38\00:49:42.71 not deal with it. 00:49:42.74\00:49:44.08 You see it. 00:49:44.11\00:49:45.45 And I like that little strip you have there. 00:49:45.48\00:49:47.85 Yes. 00:49:47.88\00:49:49.22 And I wanna show you 00:49:49.25\00:49:50.59 just how eager our church members are 00:49:50.62\00:49:51.95 to learn and to receive. 00:49:51.99\00:49:53.32 There's a picture of Jonah. 00:49:53.36\00:49:54.69 He's one of our Ugandan agronomists, 00:49:54.72\00:49:56.79 and it's the very last picture. 00:49:56.83\00:49:58.63 And you can see he's here at a church meeting. 00:49:58.66\00:50:01.13 You can even see 00:50:01.16\00:50:02.50 some of the Pathfinder uniforms. 00:50:02.53\00:50:04.03 People are just so excited. 00:50:04.07\00:50:05.40 That's what we call 00:50:05.43\00:50:06.77 soy scrambled eggs, right there. 00:50:06.80\00:50:08.37 It's actually just tofu, 00:50:08.40\00:50:09.90 but they made it by curdling the milk 00:50:09.94\00:50:11.97 with some lemon juice and a little salt. 00:50:12.01\00:50:14.18 They can make it homemade. 00:50:14.21\00:50:15.58 And in the villages, 00:50:15.61\00:50:17.11 people are excited to try these foods 00:50:17.15\00:50:19.25 and supplement their normal corn diet 00:50:19.28\00:50:23.18 with foods that will actually help them. 00:50:23.22\00:50:25.19 Now, you just used a word I had never heard before, 00:50:25.22\00:50:27.46 maybe because I'm not into the plant world, 00:50:27.49\00:50:29.49 but what's agronomist? 00:50:29.52\00:50:31.16 Agronomist. So we hire local experts. 00:50:31.19\00:50:34.80 So Jonah went to school to study agriculture, 00:50:34.83\00:50:38.47 and now he can teach others to do the same. 00:50:38.50\00:50:40.74 So we have South Sudanese agronomists, nutritionists, 00:50:40.77\00:50:44.71 even nurses. 00:50:44.74\00:50:46.07 So we hire the local people 00:50:46.11\00:50:48.04 to bring the message in their local language, 00:50:48.08\00:50:50.25 to their local community. 00:50:50.28\00:50:51.95 And we see it as friendship evangelism. 00:50:51.98\00:50:54.22 So it's a full circle back to me and Cherri, you know. 00:50:54.25\00:50:58.02 Now we are equipping and sending out workers 00:50:58.05\00:51:00.89 who can do friendship evangelizing, 00:51:00.92\00:51:02.49 meeting the needs of people right where they're at. 00:51:02.52\00:51:04.96 Wow, this is amazing. 00:51:04.99\00:51:06.49 You know, we're gonna take a news break in a moment, 00:51:06.53\00:51:08.63 but just before we do that, 00:51:08.66\00:51:10.07 I want to reach out to those who are listening 00:51:10.10\00:51:11.87 to this exciting program, honey. 00:51:11.90\00:51:14.20 I mean, we've covered so many, 00:51:14.24\00:51:15.67 so many areas here about agronomists 00:51:15.70\00:51:18.67 and you were talking about that, the green cow, 00:51:18.71\00:51:21.28 I don't think you'll ever forget that one, 00:51:21.31\00:51:23.04 but also the, the pad packaging 00:51:23.08\00:51:26.55 that you're making a difference in not only in Africa, 00:51:26.58\00:51:28.82 but also in Cuba and other countries. 00:51:28.85\00:51:32.15 And Cherri and Joy have just asked 00:51:32.19\00:51:34.99 for you to participate in ways, and you can go to the website. 00:51:35.02\00:51:38.19 Here's the information that you need 00:51:38.23\00:51:40.43 to be able to find out more about FARM STEW 00:51:40.46\00:51:43.23 and how you can financially and prayerfully make sure 00:51:43.26\00:51:46.23 that this ministry continues transforming lives. 00:51:46.27\00:51:48.90 If you would like to contact 00:51:52.47\00:51:53.94 or learn more about FARM STEW International, 00:51:53.98\00:51:56.44 you can visit their website at FarmStew.org. 00:51:56.48\00:51:59.91 That's FarmStew.org. 00:51:59.95\00:52:03.15 You can call them at (815) 200-4925. 00:52:03.18\00:52:09.76 That's (815) 200-4925. 00:52:09.79\00:52:15.03 Their address is PO box 291 Princeton, Illinois 61356. 00:52:15.06\00:52:21.94 You can email them at Hi@FarmStew.org. 00:52:21.97\00:52:25.97 That's Hi@FarmStew.org. 00:52:26.01\00:52:30.88
