fairly late in life
compared to my colleagues.

oil company for many years.

of the heart's desires

gave their souls to Jesus

did in my evangelistic meetings,

did anything scary

with them, of course, but...

That was my next line.

that, but you know...

What kind of appeal was made?

But that connection is there,

it's one thing to be preached

So I was always using

I am being called by a couple
of different institutions.

One was the Quiet Hour

lot of work for them.

The Quiet Hour was looking
for a president at the time,

this was 10 years ago now.

And it just so happened

that one of the
board of directors

that was on the Quiet
Hour also simultaneously

a board of directors on
Adventist World Aviation.

And he says,
"Hey, wait a minute.

that flying evangelist."

Yeah, and I was like
the flying nun, right?

So anyway, he says, "I know him.

looking for a president."

So now I had two
calls to entertain.

California didn't seem
to be too appealing to me,

I didn't want to
move out to California.

So that wasn't as interesting,

but Adventist World
Aviation became interesting

because I had an opportunity
to both share the gospel,

and share the passion of flying

and then a mission
throughout the world,

because I knew the mission work

of Adventist World Aviation
and what they were all about.

but I was always around it.

the very strong sense

freaked me out so much,

but yet every portion

there was always
that underlying motive

that I need to help someone,

to minister to him.

that, that ingrained,

up with that in mind

and it wasn't, I think until

just really over
the past five years,

really gotten a hold of me

mission work specifically

kind of was a bit broken,

and the one father figure

constant interaction

and that was not a good
example of a father figure.

And so, my thought is, well,

like to have a father figure,

and I know that, you know,

heavenly father is
always watching out for me

and always caring for me well,
that was hard to reconcile.

So the thought
was, if I serve God,

he's going to ship me off
to Africa and then abandon me

because I think at
that point, I mean,

I was born in '85
and still in the church,

there was a lot of talk
about, you know, missionaries
00:14:03.20\00:14:05.54
they were far off foreign lands,

oftentimes about Africa.

So that was my
thought, if you're a missionary,

you're going to go to Africa.

So that, that was my fear
that I would be separated,

that I would be abandoned,
that I'd be forgotten.

And then I just kind
of fizzle into nothing.

And that scared me
being an only child

victory in my life pursuing me

oh, about five years ago,

you became a pilot

mentally, emotionally,

like, "Oh yeah, what if..."

traveled into both my husband

and I being taken on as

We were going to go to Uganda,

that's its own

And then things shifted.

happens in their life

had those jump out of airplanes

and maybe not literally
jumped out of an airplane,

but those
experiences in our life

where we were
reaching some sort of crescendo

in our life that
is going to explode,

and so I'll just
serve you if I can.

And so we get a lot of
those calls and you get,

you have to filter those out.

they seem sincere, but

this woman and this man

she told me about her husband.
