It's so good to be here. 00:03:01.54\00:03:03.14 God is doing so much around the world. 00:03:03.18\00:03:04.65 We were commenting about how exciting it is 00:03:04.68\00:03:07.62 that there's so many ministries God is using 00:03:07.65\00:03:10.32 to finish His work. 00:03:10.35\00:03:11.69 It's very, very neat. 00:03:11.72\00:03:13.19 And you came to 3ABN years ago, 00:03:13.22\00:03:15.19 we were just talking before we started the program. 00:03:15.22\00:03:17.29 This was with Tiny Tots. How many years ago was that? 00:03:17.33\00:03:19.93 I think 10. I think 10. 00:03:19.96\00:03:21.30 Wow. 00:03:21.33\00:03:22.66 Yeah, so that was good memories 00:03:22.70\00:03:24.07 with Aunty Linda, Miss Brenda, Miss Cinda. 00:03:24.10\00:03:27.34 Miss Cinda. That's right. Absolutely. 00:03:27.37\00:03:29.44 With your kids, right? Yeah. 00:03:29.47\00:03:31.47 We have five children. 00:03:31.51\00:03:33.48 And it was our, two of our middle ones 00:03:33.51\00:03:36.21 that were in that programming at that time. 00:03:36.24\00:03:38.85 That's very special. Absolutely. 00:03:38.88\00:03:40.55 So, Julia, tell us just a little bit, 00:03:40.58\00:03:42.28 what is ASAP Ministries? 00:03:42.32\00:03:44.75 I know we featured your ministry before, 00:03:44.79\00:03:46.45 but what if someone's watching the first time and they say, 00:03:46.49\00:03:48.96 what does that stand for? 00:03:48.99\00:03:50.63 And what is this ministry all about? 00:03:50.66\00:03:51.99 Sure. 00:03:52.03\00:03:53.36 ASAP Ministries is for Advocates 00:03:53.40\00:03:55.50 for Southeast Asians and the Persecuted. 00:03:55.53\00:03:58.27 And so what we're all about 00:03:58.30\00:03:59.90 is to multiply disciples Christ's way. 00:03:59.93\00:04:03.44 And the way we do that 00:04:03.47\00:04:04.94 is we empower and train local people 00:04:04.97\00:04:08.98 to be missionaries to the poor, 00:04:09.01\00:04:11.41 the persecuted unreached refugees. 00:04:11.45\00:04:14.35 And we do that 00:04:14.38\00:04:15.92 just by God's grace and His power. 00:04:15.95\00:04:18.25 And so we have church planting, that's our main emphasis. 00:04:18.29\00:04:22.29 And we have schools and different holistic projects 00:04:22.32\00:04:25.86 like wells and other things just to reach the people 00:04:25.89\00:04:28.66 so they see Christ in action. 00:04:28.70\00:04:30.20 Amen. 00:04:30.23\00:04:31.57 Now you focus specifically on the 10/40 Window. 00:04:31.60\00:04:33.90 But what is the 10.40 Window? 00:04:33.94\00:04:35.64 Someone says what countries does that represent? 00:04:35.67\00:04:37.71 What's that represent? 00:04:37.74\00:04:39.07 So if you look at the globe, 00:04:39.11\00:04:41.84 it's between the 10 degrees north 00:04:41.88\00:04:44.01 and 40 degrees north, 00:04:44.05\00:04:45.71 the latitude lines is approximately 00:04:45.75\00:04:48.08 where the 10/40 Window is. 00:04:48.12\00:04:49.72 It's also sometimes called the resistant band, 00:04:49.75\00:04:52.59 because that's the area where it's largely Muslim, 00:04:52.62\00:04:56.09 Hindu and Buddhist. 00:04:56.12\00:04:57.59 And just a number of, 00:04:57.63\00:04:59.46 you know, number of countries and areas where it's, 00:04:59.49\00:05:02.56 where people don't know about Jesus. 00:05:02.60\00:05:04.20 Wow. 00:05:04.23\00:05:05.60 What an incredible ministry. 00:05:05.63\00:05:07.20 Now this was founded by your mom, right? 00:05:07.24\00:05:09.74 Tell us about that? 00:05:09.77\00:05:11.11 Yes, Judy Akin, my mother founded this. 00:05:11.14\00:05:14.01 Actually it goes back even beyond that, 00:05:14.04\00:05:15.88 because when I was a child, 00:05:15.91\00:05:18.15 my family worked in Thailand in the refugee camps. 00:05:18.18\00:05:21.82 You know, in the early 80s, when Pol Pot was in Cambodia, 00:05:21.85\00:05:26.89 and refugees from Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam 00:05:26.92\00:05:29.66 were all flooding into Thailand. 00:05:29.69\00:05:31.79 So that's where it all started. 00:05:31.83\00:05:33.80 And during that time 00:05:33.83\00:05:35.16 over 10,000 people were baptized 00:05:35.20\00:05:36.97 in the refugee camps. 00:05:37.00\00:05:38.67 It was such a miracle. Yeah. 00:05:38.70\00:05:41.04 And so then from that, all those war-torn countries, 00:05:41.07\00:05:45.17 people had to go back after the war was over, 00:05:45.21\00:05:48.01 but there was no official structure to help them. 00:05:48.04\00:05:51.55 And so my mom worked with 00:05:51.58\00:05:52.95 the Adventist system in the church, 00:05:52.98\00:05:55.25 to start church plants 00:05:55.28\00:05:57.19 and to establish the work in those countries. 00:05:57.22\00:05:59.35 And it's just grown and grown by God's grace. 00:05:59.39\00:06:02.19 So what was it like as a child, growing up seeing the need, 00:06:02.22\00:06:06.39 seeing the poverty, seeing the war-torn countries? 00:06:06.43\00:06:09.56 How did that impact you 00:06:09.60\00:06:10.93 and influence your life in mission? 00:06:10.97\00:06:12.90 I don't think I'd be doing what I'm doing now, 00:06:12.93\00:06:15.10 if I hadn't had those experiences, 00:06:15.14\00:06:17.27 that it was such a joy to learn how to serve. 00:06:17.31\00:06:20.91 And when children can get involved in ministry, 00:06:20.94\00:06:24.65 and go and help and do whatever little things that we can, 00:06:24.68\00:06:29.42 it changes something deep inside our hearts. 00:06:29.45\00:06:32.19 And so, it just puts this bug in my heart 00:06:32.22\00:06:34.99 to share the gospel with the world. 00:06:35.02\00:06:36.69 It gives a different worldview, a different perspective. 00:06:36.73\00:06:40.63 Like, they're my brothers and sisters, or my friends. 00:06:40.66\00:06:44.30 I don't see any difference, 00:06:44.33\00:06:45.90 even though they may eat something different 00:06:45.93\00:06:48.14 or speak something different in a different way. 00:06:48.17\00:06:50.67 But, yeah, it did impact a lot. 00:06:50.71\00:06:53.17 Okay. 00:06:53.21\00:06:54.54 So I know we're going to get 00:06:54.58\00:06:55.91 into what ASAP Ministries is doing. 00:06:55.94\00:06:58.08 And specifically, 00:06:58.11\00:06:59.45 you have a lot of videos 00:06:59.48\00:07:00.82 and pictures and other things, 00:07:00.85\00:07:02.72 projects that you're involved in. 00:07:02.75\00:07:04.35 But tell me just a bit about your family, Julia, 00:07:04.39\00:07:06.35 and then we'll go to you, Pastor Lisa. 00:07:06.39\00:07:07.72 Yeah, sure. 00:07:07.76\00:07:09.09 I'm married to AJ and he's a counselor. 00:07:09.12\00:07:12.23 And I have two daughters, 00:07:12.26\00:07:13.66 an 18-year-old and a 13-year-old, 00:07:13.70\00:07:16.46 and we live in the country. 00:07:16.50\00:07:18.93 And it's just such a blessing. 00:07:18.97\00:07:20.40 Love my family. 00:07:20.44\00:07:21.77 Amen. 00:07:21.80\00:07:23.14 Country living is a blessing and family is a gift from God. 00:07:23.17\00:07:25.77 Yes. 00:07:25.81\00:07:27.18 What about you, Pastor Lisa? 00:07:27.21\00:07:28.54 Tell us a bit about your story? 00:07:28.58\00:07:29.91 My husband is Richard Isensee and he's an engineer. 00:07:29.94\00:07:33.85 And we have five children. 00:07:33.88\00:07:35.28 And it's... 00:07:35.32\00:07:36.65 I feel so blessed 00:07:36.69\00:07:38.02 because when I was, when we were first, 00:07:38.05\00:07:42.22 coming back to Wisconsin, 00:07:42.26\00:07:43.86 I was pregnant with our first child, 00:07:43.89\00:07:45.66 and I thought, I'm just going to be home with our kids. 00:07:45.69\00:07:48.60 And God just kind of took us on a little different journey. 00:07:48.63\00:07:51.70 Instead, we went into church planting 00:07:51.73\00:07:54.24 and I was able to work part time in that, 00:07:54.27\00:07:56.00 but then also homeschool our five children. 00:07:56.04\00:07:58.51 So it's really been a blessing. 00:07:58.54\00:07:59.87 And in fact, our, all five of our kids 00:07:59.91\00:08:01.64 have been on at least one mission trip 00:08:01.68\00:08:03.41 with ASAP but some of them four now. 00:08:03.45\00:08:06.08 So... 00:08:06.58\00:08:07.92 They're great missionaries. 00:08:07.95\00:08:09.28 They're incredible missionaries. 00:08:09.32\00:08:11.02 Amen. 00:08:11.05\00:08:12.39 It is incredible for our children 00:08:12.42\00:08:14.49 to have that experience, it changes them. 00:08:14.52\00:08:17.19 I would just highly recommend if you have children, 00:08:17.23\00:08:21.50 and you want them to be passionate about other people 00:08:21.53\00:08:24.27 and about missions, 00:08:24.30\00:08:25.67 that you would have them be part of a mission trip. 00:08:25.70\00:08:29.04 Amen. 00:08:29.07\00:08:30.41 It's beautiful thing, so. 00:08:30.44\00:08:31.77 That's beautiful. 00:08:31.81\00:08:33.14 So God calls us all to be involved 00:08:33.17\00:08:34.74 in mission work. 00:08:34.78\00:08:36.11 In fact, our scripture for today 00:08:36.14\00:08:38.01 is Luke10:2, 00:08:38.05\00:08:40.82 "Then He said, 00:08:40.85\00:08:42.18 " Jesus speaking to them, 00:08:42.22\00:08:43.55 "the harvest truly is great, 00:08:43.59\00:08:45.69 but the laborers are few, 00:08:45.72\00:08:47.82 therefore pray the Lord of the harvest 00:08:47.86\00:08:50.63 to send out laborers into His harvest." 00:08:50.66\00:08:53.70 And that's what ASAP Ministries is all about. 00:08:53.73\00:08:56.60 And that's what we're encouraging you today 00:08:56.63\00:08:58.90 to pray the Lord of the harvest 00:08:58.93\00:09:00.44 that He would send forth laborers, 00:09:00.47\00:09:02.90 and that labor can be you, and it can be me, 00:09:02.94\00:09:06.21 it can be all of us. 00:09:06.24\00:09:07.58 So before we go any further, 00:09:07.61\00:09:09.08 we're going to go to a special song 00:09:09.11\00:09:10.45 and then we'll come back 00:09:10.48\00:09:11.81 and really unpack what the ministry is doing. 00:09:11.85\00:09:14.25 The song is brought to us today by Message of Mercy. 00:09:14.28\00:09:17.55 I love their music, group of woman, 00:09:17.59\00:09:19.99 and this song is entitled "Total Praise." 00:09:20.02\00:09:23.79 Lord, 00:09:28.93\00:09:30.57 I will lift 00:09:30.60\00:09:34.80 Mine eyes to the hills 00:09:34.84\00:09:38.27 Knowing my help 00:09:43.21\00:09:48.65 Is coming from You 00:09:48.68\00:09:51.82 Your peace You give me 00:09:56.12\00:10:01.90 In time of the storm 00:10:01.93\00:10:04.73 You are the source Of my strength 00:10:10.41\00:10:14.64 You are the strength Of my life 00:10:17.65\00:10:21.85 I lift my hands 00:10:25.45\00:10:29.26 In total praise to You 00:10:29.29\00:10:33.36 Amen, 00:10:36.83\00:10:40.57 Amen 00:10:40.60\00:10:44.24 Amen, 00:10:44.27\00:10:48.18 Amen 00:10:48.21\00:10:51.91 Amen, Amen 00:10:51.95\00:10:55.65 Amen, 00:10:55.68\00:10:59.22 Amen 00:10:59.25\00:11:03.26 Amen, 00:11:03.29\00:11:06.70 Amen 00:11:06.73\00:11:09.76 Thank you so much Message of Mercy 00:11:15.47\00:11:17.51 "Total Praise." 00:11:17.54\00:11:18.87 I love that song. 00:11:18.91\00:11:20.24 If you are just joining us, 00:11:20.28\00:11:21.94 our special guest today is no stranger 00:11:21.98\00:11:24.45 if you've watched 3ABN for any length of time. 00:11:24.48\00:11:27.12 This is ASAP Ministries. 00:11:27.15\00:11:30.45 And we're so blessed to have them here 00:11:30.49\00:11:32.35 talking about the impact 00:11:32.39\00:11:34.36 that you and I can make 00:11:34.39\00:11:35.72 that ASAP Ministries makes 00:11:35.76\00:11:38.19 through the power and anointing of the Holy Spirit 00:11:38.23\00:11:41.36 on the lives of the poor and the persecuted 00:11:41.40\00:11:43.97 and the unreached people groups, 00:11:44.00\00:11:45.87 especially in the 10.40 Window. 00:11:45.90\00:11:48.40 We have Julia O'Carey, who is Executive Director, 00:11:48.44\00:11:51.31 and just very glad to have you here. 00:11:51.34\00:11:53.51 And we have Pastor Lisa Isensee, 00:11:53.54\00:11:56.11 who is the Mission Advancement Officer. 00:11:56.14\00:11:58.75 I'm to be here. 00:11:58.78\00:12:00.12 It's a privilege to have both of you here. 00:12:00.15\00:12:01.95 So let's talk just a moment about ASAP Ministries. 00:12:01.98\00:12:06.96 I think we have an opening picture 00:12:06.99\00:12:08.82 kind of setting the stage for this ministry. 00:12:08.86\00:12:12.03 So what our ministry does 00:12:12.06\00:12:13.40 really focuses on the suffering, 00:12:13.43\00:12:15.33 the persecuted the poor, 00:12:15.36\00:12:16.77 these types of people 00:12:16.80\00:12:18.87 who don't get a lot of care and attention. 00:12:18.90\00:12:21.74 And so the verse that 00:12:21.77\00:12:24.57 we have is what we do for the suffering 00:12:24.61\00:12:26.24 we do for Jesus. 00:12:26.27\00:12:27.94 And so you'll see, 00:12:27.98\00:12:30.28 as we talk about different projects 00:12:30.31\00:12:33.01 of how we're actually accomplishing our ministry 00:12:33.05\00:12:36.85 by reaching those poor people who really need the help. 00:12:36.89\00:12:40.76 Amen. 00:12:40.79\00:12:42.62 One of the things we're very excited about, 00:12:42.66\00:12:44.36 if you can go on to the next picture, 00:12:44.39\00:12:46.33 is that we have over 600 Ethnic Missionaries 00:12:46.36\00:12:50.97 working in different countries. 00:12:51.00\00:12:53.00 Some of them close countries 00:12:53.03\00:12:54.37 that we don't even mention which countries they are, 00:12:54.40\00:12:56.64 and the exciting thing 00:12:56.67\00:12:58.01 and we started our program with Luke 10:2 00:12:58.04\00:13:01.58 is that there are so many more places, 00:13:01.61\00:13:04.78 so many more places 00:13:04.81\00:13:06.15 that could be reached for Jesus, 00:13:06.18\00:13:07.52 so many more ethnic missionaries 00:13:07.55\00:13:08.88 that you could be supporting. 00:13:08.92\00:13:11.05 And it's, you know, 00:13:11.09\00:13:12.42 it's not, it's not like here in the States 00:13:12.45\00:13:14.02 where to have a full-time worker, 00:13:14.06\00:13:17.13 it would be thousands 00:13:17.16\00:13:18.49 and thousands of dollars every year. 00:13:18.53\00:13:20.60 But for $90 or $100, $130 a month, 00:13:20.63\00:13:25.17 a full-time person 00:13:25.20\00:13:26.57 can be working for Jesus in these countries. 00:13:26.60\00:13:28.94 So it's something that many people can be involved in, 00:13:28.97\00:13:34.04 regardless of what your budget might be. 00:13:34.08\00:13:36.51 So let me get that straight. 00:13:36.54\00:13:38.11 You said for $90 or $100? 00:13:38.15\00:13:40.55 Or $130 depending on the country, 00:13:40.58\00:13:42.25 there's different, you know. 00:13:42.28\00:13:43.62 You can sponsor an ethnic missionary? 00:13:43.65\00:13:46.05 Yes. 00:13:46.09\00:13:47.42 So they're church planters, Bible workers, 00:13:47.46\00:13:50.89 medical missionaries, teachers, 00:13:50.93\00:13:53.76 because we're trying to reach them 00:13:53.80\00:13:55.36 in different ways. 00:13:55.40\00:13:57.00 And so we have different types of workers 00:13:57.03\00:13:59.13 and we train them up, 00:13:59.17\00:14:00.54 we equip them. 00:14:00.57\00:14:01.90 And we send them out to these unreached villages 00:14:01.94\00:14:04.74 that where people have never heard about Jesus, 00:14:04.77\00:14:07.64 never heard about the gospel. 00:14:07.68\00:14:09.68 Lisa. Go ahead. 00:14:09.71\00:14:11.05 There's one of our hard-working board members said, 00:14:11.08\00:14:14.02 I love it because when I go to bed at night, 00:14:14.05\00:14:16.65 I know that I am supporting people 00:14:16.69\00:14:19.55 that are working while I'm sleeping. 00:14:19.59\00:14:20.92 They're working for Jesus while I'm sleeping. 00:14:20.96\00:14:23.79 I love that. 00:14:23.83\00:14:25.16 So tell me what is an ethnic missionary? 00:14:25.19\00:14:27.26 What does that even mean? 00:14:27.30\00:14:29.76 So ethnic missionary means 00:14:29.80\00:14:31.37 that there are people who are from that area 00:14:31.40\00:14:34.00 that know the language, know the culture, 00:14:34.04\00:14:36.77 that are there to stay, 00:14:36.81\00:14:38.61 that are connected with the community. 00:14:38.64\00:14:40.58 So they're very effective, 00:14:40.61\00:14:42.71 because they can reach areas 00:14:42.74\00:14:45.31 where I could never go, 00:14:45.35\00:14:47.25 because either there's communism, 00:14:47.28\00:14:49.78 or there's language barriers or political barriers. 00:14:49.82\00:14:54.36 So it's really wonderful 00:14:54.39\00:14:56.32 to be able to train these people 00:14:56.36\00:14:58.33 and not all of them have like a high college education, 00:14:58.36\00:15:01.36 but they have faith and they love the Lord. 00:15:01.40\00:15:05.23 And they're passionate about what they do 00:15:05.27\00:15:07.10 and they're effective. 00:15:07.14\00:15:08.47 We see so many results. 00:15:08.50\00:15:10.47 Amen. 00:15:10.51\00:15:11.84 That's amazing. So there's 600 of these? 00:15:11.87\00:15:13.64 Yes. 00:15:13.68\00:15:15.01 Over 600 and many, many more that we could have. 00:15:15.04\00:15:18.15 Yeah. 00:15:18.18\00:15:19.51 Amen. 00:15:19.55\00:15:20.88 That's incredible. 00:15:20.92\00:15:22.25 And the way that we try to reach people, 00:15:22.28\00:15:24.69 because there's so much culture and prejudice 00:15:24.72\00:15:27.92 against Christianity in these countries 00:15:27.96\00:15:30.16 is by meeting the real needs. 00:15:30.19\00:15:32.29 So the next slide 00:15:32.33\00:15:33.66 just kind of shows a little bit about that. 00:15:33.70\00:15:37.00 We try to find ways to connect with the people, 00:15:37.03\00:15:41.80 what do they need? Do they need clean water? 00:15:41.84\00:15:44.54 Do they need health? Do they need education? 00:15:44.57\00:15:48.38 And so, one example is the Ahlin Training Center. 00:15:48.41\00:15:52.75 The Ahlin Training Center 00:15:52.78\00:15:54.85 is a medical missionary training center in Myanmar 00:15:54.88\00:15:58.15 that we just established. 00:15:58.19\00:15:59.85 And that center is training up our missionaries, 00:15:59.89\00:16:03.73 even if they're church planters 00:16:03.76\00:16:05.26 or whatever they are to be medical missionaries, 00:16:05.29\00:16:07.63 because medical missionary work is the right arm of the gospel. 00:16:07.66\00:16:10.33 Absolutely. 00:16:10.37\00:16:11.70 And so, if we want to show the next picture, 00:16:11.73\00:16:13.84 this just shows a little story. 00:16:13.87\00:16:15.37 There was this young man who became Adventist, 00:16:15.40\00:16:19.04 and he, unfortunately, 00:16:19.07\00:16:23.45 was so persecuted by his family 00:16:23.48\00:16:26.45 because of his faith and he had so much stress, 00:16:26.48\00:16:29.88 he couldn't focus on his exams 00:16:29.92\00:16:31.59 and he got hopeless, even though he found Jesus, 00:16:31.62\00:16:34.69 he thought I can't, 00:16:34.72\00:16:36.06 I can't be a Christian in my country, 00:16:36.09\00:16:37.43 it's too hard. 00:16:37.46\00:16:39.09 And so he decided to commit suicide, 00:16:39.13\00:16:41.13 and he drank poison, 00:16:41.16\00:16:43.03 and he almost died. 00:16:43.06\00:16:44.93 But the medical missionary center leader, 00:16:44.97\00:16:48.70 Dr. Triley and her team 00:16:48.74\00:16:50.27 worked to rehabilitate him and help him, 00:16:50.31\00:16:54.18 his organs have healed, he's gaining weight now. 00:16:54.21\00:16:57.58 And we prayed for him and God answered our prayer 00:16:57.61\00:17:00.05 and rescued this man. 00:17:00.08\00:17:01.42 So Lord spared his life? The Lord spared his life. 00:17:01.45\00:17:04.15 And because of that witness, 00:17:04.19\00:17:06.55 his father who's a Buddhist monk, 00:17:06.59\00:17:08.82 you can see a picture of him here, 00:17:08.86\00:17:10.49 his heart is open. 00:17:10.53\00:17:12.73 And this picture is him getting fomentation treatments 00:17:12.76\00:17:17.40 for his back problems at the center. 00:17:17.43\00:17:21.07 This is just a week ago. 00:17:21.10\00:17:22.44 So this is the young man 00:17:22.47\00:17:23.81 who had tried to commit suicide. 00:17:23.84\00:17:25.17 It's his father. 00:17:25.21\00:17:26.54 His father that was so opposed. 00:17:26.57\00:17:28.08 So there's so much power 00:17:28.11\00:17:29.51 in reaching out to their real needs. 00:17:29.54\00:17:32.21 God is using the center 00:17:32.25\00:17:34.15 and many other projects through the 10/40 Window. 00:17:34.18\00:17:37.62 That's incredible. 00:17:37.65\00:17:38.99 Praise the Lord for how He works. 00:17:39.02\00:17:40.66 I love to hear mission stories, 00:17:40.69\00:17:42.79 and stories of miracles 00:17:42.82\00:17:44.66 that God performs and that He does. 00:17:44.69\00:17:47.16 Let's shift a moment and talk about the schools. 00:17:47.20\00:17:50.40 I know ASAP Ministries 00:17:50.43\00:17:52.20 has an incredible outreach to young people, 00:17:52.23\00:17:55.20 and specifically at-risk youth. 00:17:55.24\00:17:57.14 So talk to us about that? 00:17:57.17\00:17:58.51 Yeah, so we are so excited 00:17:58.54\00:18:00.54 because we see how God can use schools 00:18:00.58\00:18:04.25 to church plant, 00:18:04.28\00:18:05.61 to impact and to bring people to the gospel 00:18:05.65\00:18:08.48 because when kids who are Buddhist, 00:18:08.52\00:18:11.39 hear about Jesus and hear those stories 00:18:11.42\00:18:14.02 actually changes their worldview. 00:18:14.06\00:18:16.66 And I have a little slide 00:18:16.69\00:18:18.19 just so that you know that we have 00:18:18.23\00:18:20.03 over 80 schools for at-risk children. 00:18:20.06\00:18:23.33 And so these are the children, 00:18:23.37\00:18:24.77 Jill, that are poor, 00:18:24.80\00:18:26.87 that are in the most worse situation. 00:18:26.90\00:18:29.60 When I say at-risk, 00:18:29.64\00:18:30.97 they're at-risk for being trafficked, 00:18:31.01\00:18:33.68 for work or sexual trafficking, they're at-risk of abuse, 00:18:33.71\00:18:38.71 they're in war zones. 00:18:38.75\00:18:40.45 Let me give you just a couple examples. 00:18:40.48\00:18:43.55 Just a few weeks ago, 00:18:43.59\00:18:45.52 in one area where we have a school 00:18:45.55\00:18:47.39 right on the border between Thailand and Myanmar, 00:18:47.42\00:18:50.49 a soldier went up to a lady 00:18:50.53\00:18:52.86 right near the school, and said, 00:18:52.89\00:18:55.03 "Give me that plastic bag." 00:18:55.06\00:18:56.90 And she said, "No, I have my fruit in it." 00:18:56.93\00:18:59.93 And he shot her three times, dead. 00:18:59.97\00:19:02.70 This is the type of environment that they live in. 00:19:02.74\00:19:07.51 It's just heartbreaking. 00:19:07.54\00:19:09.24 And then in the schools in Cambodia, 00:19:09.28\00:19:12.15 these kids are at-risk of being trafficked. 00:19:12.18\00:19:14.72 And let me give you an example of that. 00:19:14.75\00:19:17.02 I was teaching the teachers because I'm a teacher, 00:19:17.05\00:19:21.66 I have my Masters in education. 00:19:21.69\00:19:23.69 So that's one of my joys 00:19:23.73\00:19:25.06 is to go over and get to teach these teachers. 00:19:25.09\00:19:26.73 Amen. Yeah. 00:19:26.76\00:19:28.10 And one of the teachers told me 00:19:28.13\00:19:30.07 that she was teaching about careers, 00:19:30.10\00:19:33.23 and just a normal thing 00:19:33.27\00:19:34.60 and she was asking the children, 00:19:34.64\00:19:36.04 what do you want to be when you grow up? 00:19:36.07\00:19:38.67 And one little girl that's rather new, 00:19:38.71\00:19:42.01 raised her hand and she said, 00:19:42.04\00:19:43.55 "I want to be a prostitute." 00:19:43.58\00:19:45.61 And the teacher just was shocked. 00:19:45.65\00:19:47.45 And she said, 00:19:47.48\00:19:48.82 "Why do you want to be a prostitute?" 00:19:48.85\00:19:50.19 And she said, 00:19:50.22\00:19:51.55 "Well, my aunty says that I can have nice dresses." 00:19:51.59\00:19:54.89 And that's her worldview. 00:19:54.92\00:19:57.56 But then after education and teaching her, 00:19:57.59\00:20:01.26 now she wants to be a nurse 00:20:01.30\00:20:02.93 because she wants to help heal people. 00:20:02.96\00:20:05.37 And so that's the difference 00:20:05.40\00:20:06.74 that these schools are making for these children 00:20:06.77\00:20:08.54 who have no opportunity and who are really at-risk. 00:20:08.57\00:20:12.84 And so, it's just a joy 00:20:12.87\00:20:15.08 to be able to see the changes and the difference. 00:20:15.11\00:20:18.08 And we have a little video 00:20:18.11\00:20:19.68 that shows the change in one of our student's lives 00:20:19.71\00:20:23.25 and what he's doing now. 00:20:23.28\00:20:24.72 Okay. Let's take a look at that now. 00:20:24.75\00:20:26.45 Wi Wang Fu dropped out of school 00:20:35.63\00:20:37.67 at the age of six when his father died of AIDS. 00:20:37.70\00:20:41.37 His mother was also infected and struggled to find work. 00:20:41.40\00:20:46.84 When Fu finally returned to school, 00:20:46.88\00:20:49.01 he couldn't read or write, 00:20:49.04\00:20:50.65 and he struggled to concentrate on his studies. 00:20:50.68\00:20:54.08 But through the care of his teachers 00:20:54.12\00:20:55.85 at the Cambodian Adventist Elementary School, 00:20:55.88\00:20:58.55 his grades improved dramatically. 00:20:58.59\00:21:03.36 He also discovered a talent for music, 00:21:03.39\00:21:05.69 and a love for Jesus. 00:21:05.73\00:21:07.56 And three years ago, 00:21:07.60\00:21:09.60 both Fu and his mother were baptized. 00:21:09.63\00:21:14.50 He once was a struggling student 00:21:14.54\00:21:16.37 but today, he teaches second grade at the school 00:21:16.40\00:21:19.44 where his life story changed forever. 00:21:19.47\00:21:23.58 It is the joy of ASAP teachers like Fu 00:21:23.61\00:21:26.45 to help students 00:21:26.48\00:21:27.82 who are going through difficult times. 00:21:27.85\00:21:30.75 But many students and teachers 00:21:30.79\00:21:32.55 are still awaiting the faithful prayers 00:21:32.59\00:21:35.12 and support of a donor like you. 00:21:35.16\00:21:37.59 Will you become part of their story today? 00:21:37.63\00:21:40.70 Because Jesus is coming soon. 00:21:40.73\00:21:42.96 Now more than ever, mission matters. 00:21:43.00\00:21:45.90 Amen. 00:21:52.17\00:21:53.51 What an impactful story. 00:21:53.54\00:21:56.48 You know, when I go there year after year, 00:21:56.51\00:22:00.35 and I see these little kids grow up, 00:22:00.38\00:22:02.45 and I remember Fu, 00:22:02.48\00:22:03.82 and how naughty he was as a little boy 00:22:03.85\00:22:06.59 and then now I see him just being used by God. 00:22:06.62\00:22:11.39 And it just really touches my heart. 00:22:11.43\00:22:14.16 Each of these children are important. 00:22:14.20\00:22:16.26 A second-grade teacher now reaching out ministering just. 00:22:16.30\00:22:22.20 Tell me how you first began the schools. 00:22:22.24\00:22:26.51 How were they initiated? 00:22:26.54\00:22:27.88 I know they're all for at-risk 00:22:27.91\00:22:29.31 children like Fu or like that story, 00:22:29.34\00:22:32.15 you told of the girl 00:22:32.18\00:22:33.52 who said she wants to grow up 00:22:33.55\00:22:34.88 and be a prostitute. 00:22:34.92\00:22:36.45 And then the Lord got a hold of her heart 00:22:36.48\00:22:38.89 and showed her, her value 00:22:38.92\00:22:40.26 and now she wants to be a nurse. 00:22:40.29\00:22:41.62 But tell me how you started the school? 00:22:41.66\00:22:43.53 Well, we saw when we had the church plants that 00:22:43.56\00:22:46.70 there were these children in the slums 00:22:46.73\00:22:48.80 that were rummaging around 00:22:48.83\00:22:50.23 and trying to find things in the garbage dumps 00:22:50.27\00:22:54.37 to recycle just to have enough to eat 00:22:54.40\00:22:58.04 and live on in and we thought, 00:22:58.07\00:22:59.44 wow, they're not going to school. 00:22:59.47\00:23:00.84 They don't even have enough money 00:23:00.88\00:23:02.21 to go to the government schools 00:23:02.24\00:23:04.11 because they don't have money for a uniform or bags, shoes. 00:23:04.15\00:23:09.62 Yeah. 00:23:09.65\00:23:10.99 And so, I went out there in these garbage dumps, 00:23:11.02\00:23:13.49 and it broke my heart 00:23:13.52\00:23:14.86 to see these kids like rummaging around. 00:23:14.89\00:23:17.13 And so we thought 00:23:17.16\00:23:18.49 we have to do something for them. 00:23:18.53\00:23:20.10 And so we started a school 00:23:20.13\00:23:22.20 and we called it the Feed and Read School. 00:23:22.23\00:23:24.33 And we had hot, healthy meals for them 00:23:24.37\00:23:28.20 because when we didn't do that, 00:23:28.24\00:23:30.11 they wouldn't come 00:23:30.14\00:23:31.47 because they didn't have the food. 00:23:31.51\00:23:34.48 And so that's how we started 00:23:34.51\00:23:35.91 and we've seen how God has grown 00:23:35.94\00:23:37.51 and developed these schools in such beautiful ways. 00:23:37.55\00:23:40.42 Now, some of the children, 00:23:40.45\00:23:41.82 they no longer dig in the dumps. 00:23:41.85\00:23:43.42 Some of them are even literature evangelists 00:23:43.45\00:23:45.35 with their parents and they go and sell God's Word to people. 00:23:45.39\00:23:48.82 Yeah, it's beautiful. Amen. 00:23:48.86\00:23:50.19 And now there's 80 plus schools? 00:23:50.23\00:23:51.56 Yes. 00:23:51.59\00:23:52.93 Thousands of children, 00:23:52.96\00:23:54.30 you know, thousands of students. 00:23:54.33\00:23:55.66 Yeah. Amen. 00:23:55.70\00:23:57.03 Even just in some of our schools, 00:23:57.07\00:23:58.40 they'll be thousands, 00:23:58.43\00:23:59.77 you know, like, it's a number, number of young people. 00:23:59.80\00:24:02.34 Yeah. 00:24:02.37\00:24:03.71 And what I love about these schools 00:24:03.74\00:24:05.27 is that we're very intentional on discipleship. 00:24:05.31\00:24:09.01 And so the next little video you're going to see 00:24:09.04\00:24:12.45 is of a young man who became Adventist, 00:24:12.48\00:24:15.85 but he's really struggled 00:24:15.88\00:24:17.75 because they're in a culture 00:24:17.79\00:24:19.95 that just works against them 00:24:19.99\00:24:23.06 being Adventist, all the family. 00:24:23.09\00:24:25.69 But yet with the discipleship, 00:24:25.73\00:24:28.16 with the principal praying and they meet in small groups, 00:24:28.20\00:24:32.80 they study the Word, 00:24:32.83\00:24:34.17 they do united prayer 00:24:34.20\00:24:35.67 and it's so consistent in their lives 00:24:35.70\00:24:38.31 that they build up that faith so that they can be strong. 00:24:38.34\00:24:41.38 And so I want you to meet Chhai Den. 00:24:41.41\00:24:43.78 It's just a short little story of his decision. 00:24:43.81\00:24:46.41 Amen. 00:24:46.45\00:24:47.78 Let's go to that now. 00:24:47.82\00:24:49.15 Chhai Den attends the Takong Adventist School 00:24:52.09\00:24:54.62 in northwestern Cambodia. 00:24:54.66\00:24:56.99 Although he was raised in a Buddhist family, 00:24:57.03\00:24:59.46 he started to believe in God through the Bible classes 00:24:59.49\00:25:02.70 and discipleship small groups at the school. 00:25:02.73\00:25:07.17 The school's principal Pastor Sam Makura 00:25:07.20\00:25:09.77 noticed a spiritual transformation 00:25:09.80\00:25:11.97 taking place in the young man's life. 00:25:12.01\00:25:14.98 But then, 00:25:15.01\00:25:16.34 Chhai Den's older brother passed away. 00:25:16.38\00:25:18.28 Traditionally, in the Cambodian family, 00:25:21.48\00:25:24.89 whenever one family member passes away, 00:25:24.92\00:25:28.22 the remaining boy in the family 00:25:28.26\00:25:29.96 must become a monk for three days. 00:25:29.99\00:25:33.23 Chhai Den's father insisted that he become a monk. 00:25:33.26\00:25:36.56 He agreed to do it and went to the temple. 00:25:36.60\00:25:39.20 He shaved his head 00:25:39.23\00:25:40.57 and dressed in the saffron robes. 00:25:40.60\00:25:43.84 I know the culture and I knew that was expected. 00:25:43.87\00:25:47.28 So I prayed hard for Chhai Den the whole day. 00:25:47.31\00:25:50.35 That evening, he left the temple 00:25:50.38\00:25:52.38 and came to our small group meeting. 00:25:52.41\00:25:54.92 During united prayer, 00:25:54.95\00:25:56.79 he expressed true repentance for his decision 00:25:56.82\00:25:59.89 and promise God 00:25:59.92\00:26:01.26 to never turn back to Buddhism again. 00:26:01.29\00:26:04.03 I teach him that as a Christian, 00:26:04.06\00:26:06.56 he needs to be diligent and respectful to his parents. 00:26:06.59\00:26:10.80 Since he has put that into practice 00:26:10.83\00:26:12.73 and worked hard for his parents, 00:26:12.77\00:26:14.70 their love for him has increased. 00:26:14.74\00:26:16.91 Today, they allow him to come to the church freely, 00:26:16.94\00:26:19.61 and they tell me 00:26:19.64\00:26:20.98 that their son made the right decision 00:26:21.01\00:26:22.98 to become a Christian. 00:26:23.01\00:26:24.35 Chhai Den was one of the 17 students and parents 00:26:34.39\00:26:37.66 baptized recently at the Takong Adventist School. 00:26:37.69\00:26:42.20 We praise God for their decisions. 00:26:42.23\00:26:44.40 And for sponsors like you, 00:26:44.43\00:26:46.27 whose generous gifts 00:26:46.30\00:26:47.67 provide teachers stipends and school fees 00:26:47.70\00:26:50.21 for students like Chhai Den. 00:26:50.24\00:26:51.77 ASAP Ministries supports more than 70 schools 00:26:58.75\00:27:02.58 serving impoverished and unreached communities 00:27:02.62\00:27:05.35 in Southeast Asia 00:27:05.39\00:27:06.72 and elsewhere in the 10/40 Window. 00:27:06.76\00:27:11.23 Would you consider becoming a sponsor today 00:27:11.26\00:27:13.73 to bring Christian education and the gospel message 00:27:13.76\00:27:16.83 to these precious children of God? 00:27:16.87\00:27:19.40 Because Jesus is coming soon. 00:27:19.43\00:27:21.50 Now more than ever, mission matters. 00:27:21.54\00:27:24.84 Amen. 00:27:33.85\00:27:35.18 I love to see his little face Chhai Den, 00:27:35.22\00:27:37.19 and to see how God enabled him to stand up for Jesus 00:27:37.22\00:27:43.22 and then how his parents turned around. 00:27:43.26\00:27:46.56 What a beautiful story. 00:27:46.59\00:27:48.63 What do you use 00:27:48.66\00:27:50.00 for the curriculum in the schools there? 00:27:50.03\00:27:51.83 Well, we use the government curriculum, 00:27:51.87\00:27:53.67 but then we supplement it with the Bible. 00:27:53.70\00:27:56.30 And so we translated my Bible first curriculum 00:27:56.34\00:28:00.48 and it's beautiful. 00:28:00.51\00:28:01.84 We put in some pictures of Asian fruit 00:28:01.88\00:28:04.55 instead of American fruit and things like that. 00:28:04.58\00:28:07.25 But we love that curriculum, 00:28:07.28\00:28:08.68 because it takes them 00:28:08.72\00:28:10.05 through the Bible stories very clearly, 00:28:10.09\00:28:12.15 and it includes Spirit of Prophecy as well. 00:28:12.19\00:28:16.32 And we also did a curriculum 00:28:16.36\00:28:17.86 called Growing Safe Rooted in God's love. 00:28:17.89\00:28:21.00 And that's specifically focusing 00:28:21.03\00:28:22.90 on how to keep them safe 00:28:22.93\00:28:24.50 from abuse and trafficking and things like that, 00:28:24.53\00:28:27.87 and how to get their identity in Christ. 00:28:27.90\00:28:30.54 And it's a beautiful curriculum 00:28:30.57\00:28:32.17 that Adventist worked on and it goes through. 00:28:32.21\00:28:36.21 And when we were doing that, 00:28:36.24\00:28:38.21 we thought, you know, 00:28:38.25\00:28:39.58 we want something to supplement this. 00:28:39.61\00:28:41.02 And so I have something I want to show you. 00:28:41.05\00:28:43.79 Yay! 00:28:43.82\00:28:45.19 We have... Please go and tell us through. 00:28:45.22\00:28:46.76 Yes. 00:28:46.79\00:28:48.12 We have these cuddly mega voices, 00:28:48.16\00:28:50.39 and you're wondering, what in the world is that? 00:28:50.43\00:28:52.73 Well, in the pocket here of the animals, 00:28:52.76\00:28:57.77 of the little stuffed animal, we have a mega voice. 00:28:57.80\00:29:01.24 And on this mega voice 00:29:01.27\00:29:02.97 is the Bible recorded in their language 00:29:03.00\00:29:06.47 plus the stories and the memory verses 00:29:06.51\00:29:09.48 and songs from the curriculum, 00:29:09.51\00:29:11.65 so that it can wash over their minds 00:29:11.68\00:29:14.15 when they go home and go to sleep. 00:29:14.18\00:29:16.22 And so we have enough of these 00:29:16.25\00:29:18.85 for all the students in Cambodia. 00:29:18.89\00:29:21.22 We've raised enough money, but we need more, 00:29:21.26\00:29:25.26 because we have thousands of kids. 00:29:25.29\00:29:27.76 And I want to make sure I get this right. 00:29:27.80\00:29:29.53 We have 3,174 students in Myanmar 00:29:29.56\00:29:34.34 and the border between Thailand and Myanmar 00:29:34.37\00:29:37.57 that we don't have these for yet. 00:29:37.61\00:29:40.31 And it's $35 for one of these. 00:29:40.34\00:29:43.41 And so that comes to a total of $111,000 for this project, 00:29:43.45\00:29:49.42 but we really believe these children are worth it. 00:29:49.45\00:29:53.72 And what a difference this can make for them 00:29:53.76\00:29:56.62 in making them feel safe, making them sleep better. 00:29:56.66\00:29:59.43 Can I have one? 00:29:59.46\00:30:01.40 I want to hold little tight. 00:30:01.43\00:30:02.86 Okay, 00:30:02.90\00:30:04.23 so this would be the Bible in their language? 00:30:04.27\00:30:05.63 Yes. 00:30:05.67\00:30:07.00 This would also have songs in their language, curriculum. 00:30:07.04\00:30:09.50 Bible curriculum in their language. 00:30:09.54\00:30:11.27 So when they go to sleep at night, 00:30:11.31\00:30:12.87 maybe their home isn't safe, maybe they're afraid, 00:30:12.91\00:30:16.51 they can cuddle, and they can listen... 00:30:16.54\00:30:18.41 To God's Word. 00:30:18.45\00:30:19.78 To who they are in God. Yeah. 00:30:19.81\00:30:21.75 What's neat, too, if you think about it, 00:30:21.78\00:30:24.75 $35 to invest in a young person 00:30:24.79\00:30:28.29 for their spiritual growth is an incredible investment. 00:30:28.32\00:30:31.69 Somebody might say, you know, at my child's birthday, 00:30:31.73\00:30:34.23 I want to give money for this, or at Christmas time, 00:30:34.26\00:30:38.37 this is something that 00:30:38.40\00:30:39.73 that a school could do is to raise money for these or, 00:30:39.77\00:30:44.11 you know, many different ways. 00:30:44.14\00:30:46.41 Because even the kids, 00:30:46.44\00:30:47.78 they're going to see this and say, 00:30:47.81\00:30:49.14 "Boy, I would like that." 00:30:49.18\00:30:51.31 And I... 00:30:51.35\00:30:52.75 What you need to realize too, 00:30:52.78\00:30:54.12 most of the children that may be listening, 00:30:54.15\00:30:55.88 they might have lots of stuffed animals. 00:30:55.92\00:30:58.72 But in there, you know, in these places, 00:30:58.75\00:31:00.79 they might not have any toys. 00:31:00.82\00:31:03.83 My daughter was there on a mission trip 00:31:03.86\00:31:05.73 and she came back 00:31:05.76\00:31:07.40 and she had brought things to this school 00:31:07.43\00:31:10.30 and done some different activities with them. 00:31:10.33\00:31:12.83 But then she was interviewing the students. 00:31:12.87\00:31:15.10 And she said, 00:31:15.14\00:31:16.47 "Have you had any answered prayers?" 00:31:16.50\00:31:18.81 And the little child said, 00:31:18.84\00:31:20.48 you know, was holding this stuffed animal 00:31:20.51\00:31:22.14 that had just been given to them, 00:31:22.18\00:31:23.98 yes, yes. You know what? 00:31:24.01\00:31:25.98 She said, what he said, she said, 00:31:26.01\00:31:27.35 I prayed that God would give me one toy. 00:31:27.38\00:31:30.35 And, you know, they had. 00:31:30.39\00:31:32.15 So this is just an incredible thing 00:31:32.19\00:31:34.86 that schools and church's 00:31:34.89\00:31:37.23 families could be involved 00:31:37.26\00:31:38.59 in to raise that $111, 000 or something. 00:31:38.63\00:31:41.83 So we want to encourage you at home, 00:31:41.86\00:31:43.97 we will put up contact information 00:31:44.00\00:31:46.03 for ASAP Ministries at the end of the program. 00:31:46.07\00:31:48.60 But for $35 you can sponsor one of these for a child 00:31:48.64\00:31:54.68 and for 111,000, what was the exact amount? 00:31:54.71\00:31:57.05 111,000. 00:31:57.08\00:31:58.41 $111,000, 00:31:58.45\00:32:00.38 you can do that specifically for that entire region 00:32:00.42\00:32:04.09 for all the students in Myanmar... 00:32:04.12\00:32:06.86 And Thailand. And Thailand. 00:32:06.89\00:32:09.32 And I know earlier, Pastor Lisa, 00:32:09.36\00:32:11.53 you talked about the ethnic missionaries 00:32:11.56\00:32:13.23 and how for $90 or 100 or was it 120, 130? 00:32:13.26\00:32:17.20 130 I think is the amount. 00:32:17.23\00:32:18.57 130, you could sponsor an ethnic missionary. 00:32:18.60\00:32:21.04 So what an incredible opportunity you have at home. 00:32:21.07\00:32:24.87 You might be saying, I can't travel overseas, 00:32:24.91\00:32:27.51 and I can't do that but you can get involved. 00:32:27.54\00:32:30.88 And you can help spread Jesus to those who are marginalized, 00:32:30.91\00:32:35.85 to those who are impacted to the poor and the oppressed. 00:32:35.88\00:32:38.69 So let's switch gears a little bit. 00:32:38.72\00:32:41.52 We've been talking about the schools 00:32:41.56\00:32:43.43 and the curriculum and the incredible impact 00:32:43.46\00:32:45.89 that ASAP Ministries has with the schools. 00:32:45.93\00:32:48.43 Talk to us, Pastor Lisa, 00:32:48.46\00:32:50.10 about the work for the persecuted 00:32:50.13\00:32:51.80 in these closed countries? 00:32:51.83\00:32:54.14 Well, one of the things that I want to share 00:32:54.17\00:32:55.77 as we're transitioning into our closed countries, 00:32:55.80\00:32:59.14 is oftentimes 00:32:59.17\00:33:00.51 education and church planting go hand in hand. 00:33:00.54\00:33:03.28 For instance, last year I was in Myanmar, 00:33:03.31\00:33:05.98 and I was talking 00:33:06.01\00:33:07.48 with one of our ethnic missionaries. 00:33:07.52\00:33:10.15 And he was sharing how his dream is, 00:33:10.19\00:33:12.35 as a pastor to be a church planter to, 00:33:12.39\00:33:14.76 to go into areas 00:33:14.79\00:33:16.12 that have never heard the Word of God 00:33:16.16\00:33:18.66 and to share it with them. 00:33:18.69\00:33:20.50 But he said, you know, 00:33:20.53\00:33:21.86 even though I'm trained as a pastor, 00:33:21.90\00:33:23.83 I decided that what I needed to do 00:33:23.87\00:33:25.63 is I needed to go into a village. 00:33:25.67\00:33:27.74 And I would go into that village, 00:33:27.77\00:33:29.44 and I would say, 00:33:29.47\00:33:31.07 I can come and I can be a teacher for you. 00:33:31.11\00:33:35.68 So he went into an area 00:33:35.71\00:33:37.21 that was very close to Christianity. 00:33:37.25\00:33:39.91 And he came, he said, 00:33:39.95\00:33:41.92 "Please gather all the elders together." 00:33:41.95\00:33:44.69 And he knew they needed the school. 00:33:44.72\00:33:46.12 In fact, they had never had someone 00:33:46.15\00:33:48.22 with more than sixth grade education as the teacher. 00:33:48.26\00:33:52.39 And so, he, they brought all the elders together 00:33:52.43\00:33:54.56 in one of the huts 00:33:54.60\00:33:55.93 and they started talking and he said, 00:33:55.96\00:33:57.47 "I'm willing to come and be your teacher. 00:33:57.50\00:34:00.94 I will come, you won't even have to pay me, 00:34:00.97\00:34:04.07 but you need to know that I will share Jesus. 00:34:04.11\00:34:07.38 I will tell Bible stories. 00:34:07.41\00:34:09.08 I will sing Christian songs." 00:34:09.11\00:34:11.58 And, you know, 00:34:11.61\00:34:12.95 the elders kind of look back and they said, 00:34:12.98\00:34:14.38 "We don't, you know, we don't like that. 00:34:14.42\00:34:15.75 We don't like Christians. We don't like Christianity. 00:34:15.78\00:34:17.35 We certainly don't want a Christian teaching our kids." 00:34:17.39\00:34:20.32 And then somebody across this home, 00:34:20.36\00:34:24.19 this hut said, 00:34:24.23\00:34:25.56 "Well, I'm just curious, what education do you have?" 00:34:25.59\00:34:28.83 And he said, 00:34:28.86\00:34:30.20 "Well, I'm a college graduate." 00:34:30.23\00:34:32.10 You know, they all just kind of sat back and said, 00:34:32.13\00:34:34.04 oh, you know. 00:34:34.07\00:34:35.40 'Cause they were, a lot of them were only sixth graders. 00:34:35.44\00:34:36.77 Oh, that was the highest 00:34:36.81\00:34:38.44 their teacher had ever had in their village. 00:34:38.47\00:34:41.71 And so they looked at each other and this, 00:34:41.74\00:34:44.11 and one influential elder said, 00:34:44.15\00:34:47.55 "We need to do this for the sake of our children." 00:34:47.58\00:34:51.12 And so, in this village 00:34:51.15\00:34:52.65 children are coming 00:34:52.69\00:34:54.02 from two other villages to this school. 00:34:54.06\00:34:57.43 He teaches in the morning, 00:34:57.46\00:34:58.79 in the afternoon and then he takes little break. 00:34:58.83\00:35:00.96 And then he teaches the teenagers 00:35:01.00\00:35:03.40 that have now had to go off into the fields 00:35:03.43\00:35:05.23 and be working in the evening. 00:35:05.27\00:35:08.20 And he said, "Please pray for me. 00:35:08.24\00:35:10.31 Please pray for me 00:35:10.34\00:35:11.67 because my dream is to plant at least three churches 00:35:11.71\00:35:15.31 in this area where I'm teaching." 00:35:15.34\00:35:17.75 So here's just one of our ethnic missionaries 00:35:17.78\00:35:19.95 that's making an incredible difference for Jesus. 00:35:19.98\00:35:22.82 It's so exciting what God is doing. 00:35:22.85\00:35:25.65 We have some other stories like 00:35:25.69\00:35:27.02 that and if you can go to the next picture. 00:35:27.06\00:35:30.83 One of, I was there a couple years ago, 00:35:30.86\00:35:34.03 and we were in partnership with another ministry Oonjai, 00:35:34.06\00:35:37.93 and we had gone into a city 00:35:37.97\00:35:42.64 where we were doing an eyeglass clinic with Oonjai. 00:35:42.67\00:35:45.37 ASAP and Oonjai were partnering together on this. 00:35:45.41\00:35:49.08 And here, 00:35:49.11\00:35:50.45 all these people were coming that were refugees. 00:35:50.48\00:35:53.11 And they were, you know, 00:35:53.15\00:35:54.48 it's illegal for them to be there. 00:35:54.52\00:35:56.32 But most of them in this particular group 00:35:56.35\00:35:58.49 that we were ministering to, have had to flee their country. 00:35:58.52\00:36:03.09 I sat there and interviewed people, 00:36:03.12\00:36:04.73 and I just was crying after almost every interview, 00:36:04.76\00:36:08.00 because when they became Christians, 00:36:08.03\00:36:10.60 their neighbors and their own family members 00:36:10.63\00:36:12.77 were threatening to kill them. 00:36:12.80\00:36:15.07 And so, these families had to do something, 00:36:15.10\00:36:17.31 they had to go somewhere. 00:36:17.34\00:36:19.01 And so they would flee to the closest place 00:36:19.04\00:36:21.84 or the place that they could get in quickest, 00:36:21.88\00:36:24.25 but then they couldn't get, 00:36:24.28\00:36:26.88 you know, papers there, 00:36:26.92\00:36:28.95 partly because they were Christian. 00:36:28.98\00:36:31.32 And so they were just sharing some of what was going on. 00:36:31.35\00:36:34.69 And I talked to one young man, 00:36:34.72\00:36:36.06 his mom would not even do a side shot 00:36:36.09\00:36:39.26 where it was just a silhouette, 00:36:39.29\00:36:40.63 like a black silhouette, 00:36:40.66\00:36:42.00 because she said someone in our country 00:36:42.03\00:36:43.37 might recognize us and figure out where we were. 00:36:43.40\00:36:47.04 And, but she said, 00:36:47.07\00:36:48.40 I think it's okay for him to be interviewed, 00:36:48.44\00:36:50.71 you know, just that black silhouette. 00:36:50.74\00:36:52.74 Because she said, 00:36:52.77\00:36:54.11 "It's, you know, it's been four years, 00:36:54.14\00:36:56.14 three, four years since we've been there. 00:36:56.18\00:36:58.51 I don't think they'll recognize him." 00:36:58.55\00:37:00.82 And so they, they said, 00:37:00.85\00:37:05.32 he started to tell me his story. 00:37:05.35\00:37:07.69 And he shared about here 00:37:07.72\00:37:09.12 right then his father 00:37:09.16\00:37:10.49 was in the internally in the detention center 00:37:10.53\00:37:15.10 for illegal immigrants in this country. 00:37:15.13\00:37:18.23 And this is nothing like, 00:37:18.27\00:37:20.67 you know, if you think of a prison, 00:37:20.70\00:37:22.04 and then you think 10 times worse, 00:37:22.07\00:37:24.21 that there's not room to lie down and sleep. 00:37:24.24\00:37:26.54 So they take turns sleeping for a few hours at a time. 00:37:26.57\00:37:30.55 They don't have enough money. 00:37:30.58\00:37:32.35 So many things like this, 00:37:32.38\00:37:33.98 you know, just awful. 00:37:34.02\00:37:35.35 Do they work them during the day? 00:37:35.38\00:37:36.72 Is it like a work camp? I don't think so. 00:37:36.75\00:37:38.09 They're just stuck there 00:37:38.12\00:37:39.45 and you know, just basically, 00:37:39.49\00:37:41.19 it seemed like shoulder to shoulder 00:37:41.22\00:37:43.09 as they talked about it. 00:37:43.12\00:37:44.46 And... 00:37:44.49\00:37:45.83 And how long had his father been there? 00:37:45.86\00:37:47.20 I think he had been in prison for a year, 00:37:47.23\00:37:50.17 in this detention camp for a year. 00:37:50.20\00:37:53.10 And, you know, 00:37:53.13\00:37:54.50 I'm hearing all of these very sorrowful things. 00:37:54.54\00:37:57.67 And I said to him, 00:37:57.71\00:37:59.04 "Tell me, 00:37:59.07\00:38:00.44 what do you see Jesus doing in your future? 00:38:00.48\00:38:02.84 You know, what, tell me about what, 00:38:02.88\00:38:05.25 what you are hoping for?" 00:38:05.28\00:38:07.05 And he had already told me he was so excited 00:38:07.08\00:38:08.75 because he didn't realize 00:38:08.78\00:38:10.12 he was coming to a Seventh-day Adventist outreach. 00:38:10.15\00:38:12.39 And when he heard that, 00:38:12.42\00:38:13.76 he said, my dad, 00:38:13.79\00:38:15.49 we know we're Seventh-day Adventists, 00:38:15.52\00:38:16.89 my dad's a Seventh-day Adventist pastor. 00:38:16.93\00:38:19.49 And, so here at the end of this interview, 00:38:19.53\00:38:21.43 I'm asking him, 00:38:21.46\00:38:22.80 "Tell me, what hopes do you have, 00:38:22.83\00:38:24.27 what plans?" 00:38:24.30\00:38:25.63 And he got tears in his eyes, 00:38:25.67\00:38:27.00 and they'll make me get tears in my eyes right now. 00:38:27.04\00:38:28.77 But he said, "I want to be a pastor. 00:38:28.80\00:38:31.17 I want to be a Seventh-day Adventist pastor like my dad." 00:38:31.21\00:38:34.38 Here his dad is in prison, because he's a Christian, 00:38:34.41\00:38:37.55 because he's a Christian pastor. 00:38:37.58\00:38:39.98 And he said, "This is what I want to do. 00:38:40.02\00:38:41.58 I want to be a Seventh-day Adventist pastor." 00:38:41.62\00:38:44.82 So beautiful, God is working in these places. 00:38:44.85\00:38:47.79 We call them our GWIDOP countries. 00:38:47.82\00:38:50.56 You know, God's work in dangerous oppressive places. 00:38:50.59\00:38:54.46 Oh, I love that. 00:38:54.50\00:38:55.90 GWIDOP, so God's work in dangerous oppressive places. 00:38:55.93\00:39:00.24 Now we've had to change 00:39:00.27\00:39:01.74 how we work with these countries 00:39:01.77\00:39:04.01 even because it is dangerous. 00:39:04.04\00:39:05.91 Sometimes we cannot even go in 00:39:05.94\00:39:07.94 and get the pictures and get the interviews 00:39:07.98\00:39:09.71 that we would like to. 00:39:09.74\00:39:11.08 You know, we still work on getting those interviews, 00:39:11.11\00:39:13.52 but what you can do is you can sponsor, 00:39:13.55\00:39:15.78 you can be a GWIDOP sponsor and for $100 a month, 00:39:15.82\00:39:20.59 you can effectively be sponsoring 00:39:20.62\00:39:22.92 one of these workers 00:39:22.96\00:39:24.36 for Jesus or a different projects 00:39:24.39\00:39:26.43 in these closed countries 00:39:26.46\00:39:27.80 where we don't even say the names of these countries 00:39:27.83\00:39:30.57 because it's dangerous for the people who are in them. 00:39:30.60\00:39:32.87 Sometimes we have to blur their faces. 00:39:32.90\00:39:35.97 So it can really make an incredible difference. 00:39:36.00\00:39:38.37 If you go to the next picture, 00:39:38.41\00:39:39.81 I want to share a story of a friend of mine. 00:39:39.84\00:39:43.95 I'm going to call him Pastor B 00:39:43.98\00:39:45.95 and Pastor B is in a closed country. 00:39:45.98\00:39:47.98 If you go on, these are, 00:39:48.02\00:39:49.75 actually another friend of mine in a closed country 00:39:49.78\00:39:52.49 but if you go to this one, 00:39:52.52\00:39:53.86 Pastor B is the youth director in his country 00:39:53.89\00:39:56.93 and also works with ASAP Ministries 00:39:56.96\00:39:59.76 and his father has an incredible legacy. 00:39:59.79\00:40:04.43 He was an amazing man of faith for God. 00:40:04.47\00:40:07.74 In fact, thousands came into the church 00:40:07.77\00:40:13.14 and became Christians because of his ministry. 00:40:13.17\00:40:16.34 And I had, the first person 00:40:16.38\00:40:18.81 that I interviewed quite a few years ago 00:40:18.85\00:40:21.08 now was his father. 00:40:21.12\00:40:23.49 And he told me about how he had been in prison 00:40:23.52\00:40:26.59 for a total of less than, well, less than five years, 00:40:26.62\00:40:29.69 almost five years that he had been in prison. 00:40:29.72\00:40:32.29 One of the times was four and a half years. 00:40:32.33\00:40:35.00 Well, this last time that I was in Southeast Asia, 00:40:35.03\00:40:38.97 I was talking to Pastor B. 00:40:39.00\00:40:40.87 And I said, "Pastor B, tell me about your childhood, 00:40:40.90\00:40:45.57 because what was it like for you 00:40:45.61\00:40:47.84 when you were a child, 00:40:47.88\00:40:49.38 and your dad was in prison 00:40:49.41\00:40:51.38 for four and a half years just for being a Christian, 00:40:51.41\00:40:54.82 and, and sharing his faith." 00:40:54.85\00:40:56.75 And he started to share these stories 00:40:56.79\00:40:59.79 that were just incredible. 00:40:59.82\00:41:01.16 In fact, last night, I spoke with him 00:41:01.19\00:41:02.62 and heard a little bit more. 00:41:02.66\00:41:05.13 He was five years old, if you can imagine this. 00:41:05.16\00:41:09.33 He was five years old when his dad was put in prison. 00:41:09.36\00:41:14.67 And it was his family here. His mom is with three kids. 00:41:14.70\00:41:18.91 How is she supposed to support them? 00:41:18.94\00:41:20.28 Of course. 00:41:20.31\00:41:21.64 You know, she's trying to figure it out. 00:41:21.68\00:41:23.18 And she was able to get word to his uncle. 00:41:23.21\00:41:25.88 And his uncle who was not a Christian said, 00:41:25.91\00:41:28.68 "Yes, you come to our village." 00:41:28.72\00:41:30.95 And so he brought them to their village. 00:41:30.99\00:41:32.49 Here they're in a village, 00:41:32.52\00:41:33.86 they are the only Christians in this entire village. 00:41:33.89\00:41:37.56 In fact, they only became Christians, 00:41:37.59\00:41:39.53 because for a little while they were in a refugee camp. 00:41:39.56\00:41:42.93 And so, he shared about how, 00:41:42.96\00:41:46.74 you know, the other parents told the children, 00:41:46.77\00:41:50.04 "You see him, 00:41:50.07\00:41:51.41 don't be friends with him, 00:41:51.44\00:41:52.87 because his father is a convict, 00:41:52.91\00:41:54.68 he's in prison. 00:41:54.71\00:41:56.51 He'll be a bad influence on you, 00:41:56.54\00:41:58.05 don't be friends with him." 00:41:58.08\00:41:59.75 Can you imagine growing up like that, 00:41:59.78\00:42:01.15 growing up under that oppression 00:42:01.18\00:42:02.68 and that ridicule and that sadness 00:42:02.72\00:42:05.69 having your dad gone? 00:42:05.72\00:42:07.06 Sometimes we think of the persecution 00:42:07.09\00:42:09.09 that the adults face, 00:42:09.12\00:42:10.53 but it's the children too in these close countries. 00:42:10.56\00:42:12.83 That's right. 00:42:12.86\00:42:14.20 And so, he shared about how he would go to school 00:42:14.23\00:42:16.30 and the teacher would be so mean to him, 00:42:16.33\00:42:19.13 said it was so hard to learn. 00:42:19.17\00:42:21.44 But when he would sneak out in the afternoon 00:42:21.47\00:42:24.17 after or before school 00:42:24.21\00:42:25.71 was even out because he knew if we're going to eat tonight, 00:42:25.74\00:42:28.44 my family needs help. 00:42:28.48\00:42:30.38 And so at 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 years old, 00:42:30.41\00:42:34.08 maybe even till he was 10, 00:42:34.12\00:42:36.08 he would go out into the woods and he would pick fiddleheads, 00:42:36.12\00:42:39.59 the ferns as they were just coming up, 00:42:39.62\00:42:41.42 and you would pick other things that he knew were edible 00:42:41.46\00:42:43.93 and bring them back. 00:42:43.96\00:42:45.29 And he take his like half gallon engine oil, 00:42:45.33\00:42:50.60 pails, cans, 00:42:50.63\00:42:51.97 and he would bring them a kilometer down to the river 00:42:52.00\00:42:55.00 to get water. 00:42:55.04\00:42:56.37 And three times every day 00:42:56.40\00:42:57.74 he would bring that back for his family 00:42:57.77\00:42:59.41 to have enough water to eat and to clean up 00:42:59.44\00:43:01.41 with and to cook with. 00:43:01.44\00:43:03.71 And he's just a little kid? 00:43:03.75\00:43:05.08 He's just a little kid. 00:43:05.11\00:43:06.45 He's just a little kid. 00:43:06.48\00:43:07.82 His mom, you know, was taking the baby on her hip 00:43:07.85\00:43:09.82 out into the fields to work on her little bit of forest 00:43:09.85\00:43:13.29 that she had cleared out to be a rice, 00:43:13.32\00:43:15.79 rice paddy and to grow corn. 00:43:15.82\00:43:18.23 And so incredible, 00:43:18.26\00:43:19.66 because he shared last night 00:43:19.69\00:43:21.03 I had never heard this story before. 00:43:21.06\00:43:22.86 He said, "You know, 00:43:22.90\00:43:24.23 God took care of us during those years. 00:43:24.27\00:43:27.10 In fact, my uncle would tell my mom, 00:43:27.14\00:43:29.24 you need to divorce your husband, 00:43:29.27\00:43:31.61 and there's another man in this village 00:43:31.64\00:43:33.17 who wants to marry you." 00:43:33.21\00:43:34.58 She said, "No, I'll be faithful to my husband. 00:43:34.61\00:43:36.64 I'll be faithful to God. 00:43:36.68\00:43:38.78 And God will be faithful to us." 00:43:38.81\00:43:40.35 I'm sure is what she was thinking. 00:43:40.38\00:43:42.72 And she would go out there and she would grow her crops. 00:43:42.75\00:43:45.55 Well, he shared about how, 00:43:45.59\00:43:47.12 at the end of the year before their harvest, 00:43:47.16\00:43:50.03 they would be, 00:43:50.06\00:43:52.03 all of the villagers would be out of rice 00:43:52.06\00:43:54.86 except for their family. 00:43:54.90\00:43:56.97 Yay! 00:43:57.00\00:43:58.33 And he said, you know, we would just cut, 00:43:58.37\00:44:00.50 we would say it must be God. 00:44:00.54\00:44:02.30 Because here's one woman feeding four people, 00:44:02.34\00:44:05.91 and then you know, 00:44:05.94\00:44:07.28 there's these other families 00:44:07.31\00:44:08.64 where they have teenagers 00:44:08.68\00:44:10.01 that are out there working to much bigger fields. 00:44:10.05\00:44:12.31 And yet God took care of them. 00:44:12.35\00:44:13.85 He shared about 00:44:13.88\00:44:15.22 how a huge problem in this jungle, 00:44:15.25\00:44:16.79 it was way off the beaten track. 00:44:16.82\00:44:18.69 And a huge problem was in the barns 00:44:18.72\00:44:20.99 where they would store the food 00:44:21.02\00:44:24.79 with rats and the mice would come in and just, 00:44:24.83\00:44:27.53 you know, eat and eat on my food. 00:44:27.56\00:44:29.06 In fact, it was a weekly chore 00:44:29.10\00:44:30.87 that the children would chase the rats 00:44:30.90\00:44:32.60 and the mice away. 00:44:32.63\00:44:33.97 He said, "We never ever saw mice or rats in our barn. 00:44:34.00\00:44:39.87 They just didn't come. 00:44:39.91\00:44:42.71 They just didn't come." 00:44:42.74\00:44:44.21 And it, you know it makes me think 00:44:44.25\00:44:45.95 of Malachi Chapter 3 that says, 00:44:45.98\00:44:49.22 "I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, 00:44:49.25\00:44:53.22 so that he will not destroy the fruit of your ground." 00:44:53.25\00:44:55.86 Nor shall the vine fall 00:44:55.89\00:44:57.23 to bear fruit for you in the field... 00:44:57.26\00:44:58.89 "Fail to bear fruit for you in the field, " 00:44:58.93\00:45:00.33 says the Lord of hosts. 00:45:00.36\00:45:01.70 It's so beautiful. 00:45:01.73\00:45:03.06 I can just see, 00:45:03.10\00:45:04.43 maybe even an angel that just was like, 00:45:04.47\00:45:05.80 I'm in this barn. 00:45:05.83\00:45:09.24 So God is working in amazing ways. 00:45:09.27\00:45:12.41 Just to finish up his story, 00:45:12.44\00:45:15.08 he said, "I have something to tell you 00:45:15.11\00:45:16.78 that you do not know." 00:45:16.81\00:45:18.15 He's just telling me this last night. 00:45:18.18\00:45:19.88 He said, "I took a group of youth 00:45:19.91\00:45:22.42 to my old village just this summer." 00:45:22.45\00:45:26.02 And he said, 00:45:26.05\00:45:27.39 "When we got there, 00:45:27.42\00:45:28.76 I wanted to see 00:45:28.79\00:45:30.13 because there was two people that had been his friend, 00:45:30.16\00:45:32.39 one was his cousin, 00:45:32.43\00:45:33.90 and another little neighbor boy 00:45:33.93\00:45:35.43 whose family must have had a little more openness 00:45:35.46\00:45:37.50 in their hearts. 00:45:37.53\00:45:38.93 Because there was just this little neighbor boy 00:45:38.97\00:45:40.70 that was his friend. 00:45:40.74\00:45:42.50 And he went into that village, 00:45:42.54\00:45:46.78 and came to find out 00:45:46.81\00:45:49.11 that there are now six families 00:45:49.14\00:45:51.11 that are Christian in his village. 00:45:51.15\00:45:53.85 And the one who is leading them is his friend. 00:45:53.88\00:45:58.02 God is so good.
