00:02:00.68\00:02:02.08 On a mission trip, can we say mission trips? 00:02:02.12\00:02:04.69 Mission experiences? 00:02:04.72\00:02:06.49 I'm not sure how we would want to describe that. 00:02:06.52\00:02:08.02 But it's going to be a fun day today. 00:02:08.06\00:02:09.42 We have six different roles to share with you today. 00:02:09.46\00:02:12.79 And I'm very excited about them. 00:02:12.83\00:02:14.73 Yes, I was here fairly recently, 00:02:14.76\00:02:16.97 and we had our international convention 00:02:17.00\00:02:19.37 and they were willing to share 00:02:19.40\00:02:21.24 some of the interviews that they have with some, 00:02:21.27\00:02:24.31 they call members in action. 00:02:24.34\00:02:26.07 But this is the different ministries part 00:02:26.11\00:02:27.98 of ASI. 00:02:28.01\00:02:29.34 And of course, 3ABN is a part of ASI. 00:02:29.38\00:02:31.71 And we're grateful for the partnership with ASI 00:02:31.75\00:02:35.52 throughout so many of these years, 00:02:35.55\00:02:36.89 we're blessed by that. 00:02:36.92\00:02:38.25 Amen. 00:02:38.29\00:02:39.62 And as Greg mentioned, these specific roles, 00:02:39.65\00:02:42.49 they're focused on mission. 00:02:42.52\00:02:44.06 Now mission can be your next-door neighbor, 00:02:44.09\00:02:46.39 but mission is also going around the world, 00:02:46.43\00:02:49.26 being the hands and feet of Jesus. 00:02:49.30\00:02:52.00 And there's a verse that before we go to those roles, 00:02:52.03\00:02:54.30 I think about is in Isaiah, Isaiah chapter 58. 00:02:54.34\00:02:57.91 And of course, you know that scripture. 00:02:57.94\00:02:59.77 Isaiah 58, we're going to start in verse 6, 00:02:59.81\00:03:02.38 "Is this not the fast that I have chosen 00:03:02.41\00:03:05.01 to loose the bonds of wickedness, 00:03:05.05\00:03:07.02 to undo the heavy burdens, 00:03:07.05\00:03:08.85 to let the oppressed go free that you break every yoke." 00:03:08.88\00:03:12.59 That is what we are called to do 00:03:12.62\00:03:15.29 as Seventh-day Adventist Christians. 00:03:15.32\00:03:17.39 "Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, 00:03:17.43\00:03:20.23 you bring to your house, the poor that are cast out. 00:03:20.26\00:03:24.27 When you see the naked you cover him 00:03:24.30\00:03:25.90 and do not hide yourself from your own flesh. 00:03:25.93\00:03:29.04 Then your light shall break forth 00:03:29.07\00:03:32.11 like the morning 00:03:32.14\00:03:33.84 and your healing will spring forth speedily." 00:03:33.88\00:03:36.38 So these ministries in particular 00:03:36.41\00:03:39.71 practice, you could say, Isaiah Chapter 58. 00:03:39.75\00:03:42.15 Yeah, amen. 00:03:42.18\00:03:43.52 You know, God's given the commission, 00:03:43.55\00:03:44.89 they're going forward and doing 00:03:44.92\00:03:46.25 what God's put before them to do. 00:03:46.29\00:03:47.62 Our first rule, we're going to Cuba, 00:03:47.66\00:03:49.56 is that right? 00:05:01.96\00:05:03.83 Let me tell you a little bit, 00:05:03.87\00:05:05.20 only by the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. 00:05:05.23\00:05:09.80 You know, the four pillars that God gave us in Cuba, 00:05:09.84\00:05:12.94 we're trying to be faithful, number one, is to train. 00:05:12.97\00:05:16.21 We use a modified light curriculum 00:05:16.24\00:05:18.78 and training Cubans, 00:05:18.81\00:05:20.28 especially youth in medical missionary, 00:05:20.32\00:05:22.28 practical gospel. 00:05:22.32\00:05:23.65 Number two, we send them, we interview, hire, 00:05:23.69\00:05:26.35 and send them out to work full time 00:05:26.39\00:05:28.66 in unreached cities and frontiers of Cuba. 00:05:28.69\00:05:31.59 Number three, we harvest 00:05:31.63\00:05:33.46 by bringing down schools and church groups 00:05:33.50\00:05:37.33 and youth from North America 00:05:37.37\00:05:39.23 to hold harvest campaigns in these cities, 00:05:39.27\00:05:41.60 and we buy homes in the cities 00:05:41.64\00:05:44.14 and we stay and nurture those flock. 00:05:44.17\00:05:46.17 So they're not only recognized companies 00:05:46.21\00:05:48.31 but organize Seventh-day Adventist churches under it. 00:05:48.34\00:05:52.68 So kind of how do our people work? 00:05:52.71\00:05:54.88 We want to tell you a little bit about that 00:05:54.92\00:05:56.95 as well as a couple stories and what's happening. 00:05:56.99\00:06:00.96 What are these workers do 00:06:00.99\00:06:02.32 to raise up new followers for Jesus, 00:06:02.36\00:06:04.46 for Jesus Christ is so interesting. 00:06:04.49\00:06:08.83 All of them do something different, Donna. 00:06:08.86\00:06:11.50 Some of them are more medical professionals, 00:06:11.53\00:06:16.50 have a medical background, 00:06:16.54\00:06:18.21 but anything you do to release suffering, 00:06:18.24\00:06:20.84 to relieve burden 00:06:20.88\00:06:22.21 and just to relieve the issues of life 00:06:22.24\00:06:25.61 that people deal with to genuinely care about people 00:06:25.65\00:06:28.25 is Christ's method for opening up new work. 00:06:28.28\00:06:31.69 I want to tell you about somebody a week ago 00:06:31.72\00:06:33.56 we sent recently, 00:06:33.59\00:06:35.89 we sent Verdelio and Noriski to a new city. 00:06:35.92\00:06:39.43 And last week we heard this story. 00:06:39.46\00:06:42.33 They went to a town called Jicotea, 00:06:42.36\00:06:44.80 we bought a house in that town. 00:06:44.83\00:06:46.20 There's a picture of them, they moved into that house. 00:06:46.23\00:06:49.40 And they were wondering, "Lord, what to do, " 00:06:49.44\00:06:51.57 the house was on the main street, 00:06:51.61\00:06:53.04 very close to the bus station. 00:06:53.07\00:06:55.31 And they felt impressed. 00:06:55.34\00:06:57.25 We need to do something 00:06:57.28\00:06:58.61 all these people are at the bus station, 00:06:58.65\00:07:00.08 they come there to find their work 00:07:00.12\00:07:01.48 in the morning. 00:07:01.52\00:07:03.28 "What do we do there?" 00:07:03.32\00:07:04.95 Well, they went to the bus station 00:07:04.99\00:07:06.52 and looked around 00:07:06.55\00:07:07.89 and the bathrooms were just intolerable. 00:07:07.92\00:07:11.26 It's a place you don't want to go in Cuba 00:07:11.29\00:07:12.89 and these are the only public restrooms 00:07:12.93\00:07:15.13 in that city there at the bus station. 00:07:15.16\00:07:18.10 And you just don't want to go in there. 00:07:18.13\00:07:20.07 A lot of times, they don't work. 00:07:20.10\00:07:21.44 They're dark, they're filthy, they're just nasty. 00:07:21.47\00:07:24.97 It's a place that we always avoid 00:07:25.01\00:07:27.88 and most people avoid unless emergency. 00:07:27.91\00:07:30.71 Well, our medical missionaries prayed, 00:07:30.75\00:07:32.25 "Lord, how do we, 00:07:32.28\00:07:33.62 how do we minister those people?" 00:07:33.65\00:07:34.98 And they felt like the answer came, bathrooms. 00:07:35.02\00:07:39.49 So Verdelio and Noriski, on their own accord, 00:07:39.52\00:07:41.69 they bought disinfectants 00:07:41.72\00:07:43.09 with their little salary of $25 a month, 00:07:43.12\00:07:46.19 they went out and bought disinfectants, 00:07:46.23\00:07:48.56 they scrubbed every inch of those bathrooms, 00:07:48.60\00:07:51.33 even the walls. 00:07:51.37\00:07:52.80 And they placed sweet smelling scents in there. 00:07:52.83\00:07:56.07 And immediately the people begin to ask the lady, 00:07:56.10\00:07:59.81 the uniformed officer that's there in charge 00:07:59.84\00:08:01.98 of kind of directing traffic in the morning 00:08:02.01\00:08:03.75 and helping people find the work 00:08:03.78\00:08:05.91 and the transportation to work and those kind of things. 00:08:05.95\00:08:09.32 And they said, "What's going on here? 00:08:09.35\00:08:11.22 Why are these bathrooms so clean?" 00:08:11.25\00:08:14.49 And this official in uniform, 00:08:14.52\00:08:17.79 this woman she would point to the house across the street. 00:08:17.83\00:08:20.90 And she said, "That's the new church in town. 00:08:20.93\00:08:22.86 And that's the pastor and his wife 00:08:22.90\00:08:25.33 that are in charge of the church. 00:08:25.37\00:08:27.04 And they do that." 00:08:27.07\00:08:28.40 And so they're doing this every week, 00:08:28.44\00:08:29.77 and I just praise the Lord last week. 00:08:29.80\00:08:31.87 We found out already 00:08:31.91\00:08:33.24 they have six people ready for baptism. 00:08:33.27\00:08:36.21 Amen. Thanks, Donna. 00:08:36.24\00:08:37.68 Henry, six people ready for baptism 00:08:37.71\00:08:42.68 because they were cleaning bathrooms! 00:08:42.72\00:08:45.35 Isn't God amazing? 00:08:45.39\00:08:46.72 That's medical missionary work, Donna. 00:08:46.76\00:08:48.12 That is medical missionary work. 00:08:48.16\00:08:50.23 Yes. 00:08:50.26\00:08:51.59 And so the results across Cuba, 00:08:51.63\00:08:53.56 we just wanted to say praise the Lord 00:08:53.60\00:08:55.56 we have greater than 100 workers 00:08:55.60\00:08:58.03 medical missionaries working now in 55 cities. 00:08:58.07\00:09:02.14 And we have 55 churches that are growing up, 00:09:02.17\00:09:04.91 8 of these have already been organized 00:09:04.94\00:09:06.81 and 47 are coming up. 00:09:06.84\00:09:11.25 And we got another story just a couple of days ago 00:09:11.28\00:09:14.98 from one of our workers sent these pictures. 00:09:15.02\00:09:17.45 This is a lady, Yipsy 00:09:17.49\00:09:18.82 that lost part of one of her feet. 00:09:18.85\00:09:21.26 And the other foot is deteriorating. 00:09:21.29\00:09:25.29 Yipsy was very disappointed, very discouraged, down and out. 00:09:25.33\00:09:31.70 She just didn't want to live anymore. 00:09:31.73\00:09:34.97 She couldn't play with her grandchildren, 00:09:35.00\00:09:36.50 she couldn't do housework. 00:09:36.54\00:09:37.87 She lost a foot, she was just down and out. 00:09:37.91\00:09:41.14 And our medical missionary in her town 00:09:41.18\00:09:44.05 Dian Less came and just ministered her, 00:09:44.08\00:09:47.98 cleaned her house, washed her clothes. 00:09:48.02\00:09:50.19 And Yipsy was like so amazed, so truly grateful. 00:09:50.22\00:09:54.66 She said, "You know, before you came, 00:09:54.69\00:09:57.39 I wanted to end my life. 00:09:57.43\00:09:58.76 I had decided I'm gonna kill myself." 00:09:58.79\00:10:00.86 But with tears in her eyes, she said, 00:10:00.90\00:10:02.63 "Now I know that there is a Savior 00:10:02.66\00:10:05.27 and that He loves me. 00:10:05.30\00:10:06.84 And I want to give myself to Christ." 00:10:06.87\00:10:08.64 And it's just another conversion, 00:10:08.67\00:10:10.11 but everybody worked on it in a different way. 00:10:10.14\00:10:12.97 Praise the Lord. 00:10:13.01\00:10:14.61 Praise the Lord. 00:10:14.64\00:10:15.98 You know, God is working in Cuba. 00:10:16.01\00:10:18.08 And I know that part of the offering 00:10:18.11\00:10:20.38 is going to be helping your projects in Cuba. 00:10:20.42\00:10:23.75 And we only have a few seconds left. 00:10:23.79\00:10:26.15 But how is that offering going to help quickly. 00:10:26.19\00:10:30.16 Praise the Lord. 00:10:30.19\00:10:31.53 Next to the seminary, Donna, adjacent to the seminary, 00:10:31.56\00:10:33.96 God has given us a farm 00:10:34.00\00:10:35.66 and some beautiful, beautiful property. 00:10:35.70\00:10:37.70 And we've already built through ASI's help 00:10:37.73\00:10:39.77 a lovely, lovely building. 00:10:39.80\00:10:43.47 It's a multi-purpose building, 00:10:43.51\00:10:44.97 it was originally meant to be a girl's dorm, 00:10:45.01\00:10:46.91 but we use it for everything. 00:10:46.94\00:10:48.84 And now we need desperately new classrooms, 00:10:48.88\00:10:53.82 for a place for class, 00:10:53.85\00:10:55.18 some cafeteria and bathrooms 00:10:55.22\00:10:56.95 in this facility to train our workers. 00:10:56.99\00:10:58.82 In the past, 00:10:58.85\00:11:00.19 we've been able to use the seminary 00:11:00.22\00:11:01.56 but now with their master's degree program, 00:11:01.59\00:11:03.76 they're so full, 00:11:03.79\00:11:05.33 we have not been able to take over their campus 00:11:05.36\00:11:07.46 for a month and do a light curriculum, 00:11:07.50\00:11:08.96 and we need our own space. 00:11:09.00\00:11:10.90 So this offering is really $170,000 project, 00:11:10.93\00:11:14.34 but about half that is being asked by ASI. 00:11:14.37\00:11:17.24 And it's going to make it possible for us 00:11:17.27\00:11:19.17 to train new workers. 00:11:19.21\00:11:20.54 We have 500 cities in Cuba to go, Donna, 00:11:20.58\00:11:23.85 and we want to reach every city for Christ. 00:11:23.88\00:11:26.72 Amen. Thank you, Henry. 00:11:26.75\00:11:30.39 Thank you, Donna and Henry. 00:11:30.42\00:11:31.95 What an incredible ministry there in Cuba. 00:11:31.99\00:11:34.02 And I had the opportunity to go with 3ABN to Cuba 00:11:34.06\00:11:36.93 back in the year 2000 or so. 00:11:36.96\00:11:38.99 So Cuba has always been a very special in my heart. 00:11:39.03\00:11:42.63 And I like here it says these young people, 00:11:42.66\00:11:44.77 they're there to relieve the suffering, 00:11:44.80\00:11:47.44 the burdens and issues of life that people deal with, 00:11:47.47\00:11:51.01 you know, and I think about Christ. 00:11:51.04\00:11:53.14 That's how He ministered was to their physical needs 00:11:53.17\00:11:54.51 and then of course, 00:11:54.54\00:11:55.88 the spiritual is right in there too. 00:11:55.91\00:11:57.25 Amen. 00:11:57.28\00:11:58.61 I love the three-pronged approach 00:11:58.65\00:11:59.98 that they took 00:12:00.02\00:12:01.35 as far as using that modified light curriculum 00:12:01.38\00:12:03.65 to train the locals, 00:12:03.69\00:12:05.02 especially the youth in medical missionary work. 00:12:05.05\00:12:08.32 Then, of course, they interviewed and hired 00:12:08.36\00:12:10.49 and sent them out full time 00:12:10.53\00:12:12.69 in the cities in frontiers of Cuba, 00:12:12.73\00:12:14.80 and then bringing the harvest, 00:12:14.83\00:12:16.67 bringing down schools or churches 00:12:16.70\00:12:18.83 or youth groups from North America 00:12:18.87\00:12:21.44 to do that harvest. 00:12:21.47\00:12:22.80 So what an incredible ministry. 00:12:22.84\00:12:24.27 The next ministry is just as amazing. 00:12:24.31\00:12:26.68 This is ASAP, 00:12:26.71\00:12:28.31 Advocates for South East Asia and the Persecuted. 00:12:28.34\00:12:33.01 Julia O'Carey, she's a woman of God. 00:12:33.05\00:12:35.25 She's a woman of prayer. 00:12:35.28\00:12:37.19 She has been here to 3ABN 00:12:37.22\00:12:38.79 before talking about what they do, 00:12:38.82\00:12:41.09 specifically for the poor, the persecuted, 00:12:41.12\00:12:44.19 and the unreached refugees, 00:12:44.23\00:12:46.06 and the schools and the ministry 00:12:46.09\00:12:48.80 that they do overseas is amazing. 00:12:48.83\00:12:50.17 Yeah, it's amazing. 00:12:50.20\00:12:51.53 What we're going to hear in this role that's coming up 00:12:51.57\00:12:53.17 is that they reached over 80 schools 00:12:53.20\00:12:55.54 in what they call the 1040 window. 00:12:55.57\00:12:57.37 That's a lot of support for the schools. 00:12:57.41\00:12:59.07 Let's go to this exciting role right now. 00:12:59.11\00:13:02.71 Well, it's really nice to have Julia and Curtis with us. 00:13:02.74\00:13:05.71 And, Julia, 00:13:05.75\00:13:07.08 you're the Executive Director for ASAP 00:13:07.12\00:13:09.15 and we'll hear a little bit more about that 00:13:09.18\00:13:10.52 in a minute. 00:13:10.55\00:13:11.89 And Curtis Letniak, a businessman from Canada, 00:13:11.92\00:13:14.62 who also serves on the ASAP board. 00:13:14.66\00:13:17.06 We're so happy to have both of you here today. 00:13:17.09\00:13:19.46 Julia, tell us first, what does ASAP stand for? 00:13:19.49\00:13:23.30 And what's the broad brush on the mission 00:13:23.33\00:13:25.87 and purpose of ASAP? 00:13:25.90\00:13:27.74 ASAP stands for 00:13:27.77\00:13:29.10 Advocates for Southeast Asians and the Persecuted. 00:13:29.14\00:13:32.47 And ASAP is about multiplying disciples 00:13:32.51\00:13:35.94 among the poor, the persecuted, unreached, and refugees. 00:13:35.98\00:13:39.91 And we do that through a holistic way. 00:13:39.95\00:13:42.98 So we have clean water well projects, 00:13:43.02\00:13:45.42 we have church plants, 00:13:45.45\00:13:46.79 we support over 80 schools among the 1040 window. 00:13:46.82\00:13:51.19 You know, one of the things 00:13:51.23\00:13:52.56 I've really appreciated Debbie about 00:13:52.59\00:13:53.93 the way ASAP works in these countries 00:13:53.96\00:13:55.93 is the ethnic missionaries that are used, 00:13:55.96\00:13:58.10 that are trained and equipped and then sent out 00:13:58.13\00:14:01.84 to the people in these countries. 00:14:01.87\00:14:03.20 And it creates a very effective way. 00:14:03.24\00:14:05.47 People that know the language and know the culture 00:14:05.51\00:14:07.58 are able to work so effectively 00:14:07.61\00:14:08.98 among people in these countries in Southeast Asia. 00:14:09.01\00:14:11.68 Well, I tell you, ASI has been so privileged 00:14:11.71\00:14:14.18 to be a part of that outreach 00:14:14.22\00:14:16.28 and to be able to work with ASAP in ministry, 00:14:16.32\00:14:20.32 support through the offerings, 00:14:20.36\00:14:21.69 but it's more than just through the offerings. 00:14:21.72\00:14:24.63 There are other things that happen at ASI 00:14:24.66\00:14:26.63 that provide support to ministries. 00:14:26.66\00:14:29.16 You know, it's so true. 00:14:29.20\00:14:30.53 I love ASI 00:14:30.57\00:14:32.00 because when you go, 00:14:32.03\00:14:34.54 there are so many divine appointments that happen 00:14:34.57\00:14:37.01 and the networking and the people you meet, 00:14:37.04\00:14:39.44 like for example, how I met Curtis, 00:14:39.47\00:14:41.84 Denzil McNeilus, 00:14:41.88\00:14:43.24 who's on our board also he told me, 00:14:43.28\00:14:46.45 "Julia, you need to meet a friend of mine 00:14:46.48\00:14:48.65 who's really into missions and loves Cambodia." 00:14:48.68\00:14:51.72 And then just minutes later at the ASAP booth, 00:14:51.75\00:14:55.22 Curtis shows up. 00:14:55.26\00:14:56.62 And so I said, "Curtis, I hear you love Cambodia. 00:14:56.66\00:15:00.13 So if you're ever in Cambodia again, 00:15:00.16\00:15:01.80 I'd love you to visit 00:15:01.83\00:15:03.16 some of our projects and schools." 00:15:03.20\00:15:05.13 Julia, it's so true how, how God, 00:15:05.17\00:15:08.40 you know, has used ASI to make those connections. 00:15:08.44\00:15:11.04 And that was really where our interest started 00:15:11.07\00:15:13.68 with Cambodia was through ASI 00:15:13.71\00:15:15.44 and hearing about 00:15:15.48\00:15:16.81 some of the work that's being done there. 00:15:16.85\00:15:18.18 Our family had gone to visit Cambodia a couple of times. 00:15:18.21\00:15:20.82 And then once we made the connection with Julia, 00:15:20.85\00:15:23.05 Julia extended this invitation, 00:15:23.08\00:15:25.02 and our family then began a series of trips, 00:15:25.05\00:15:28.32 I believe we have a picture here 00:15:28.36\00:15:30.39 to show our family in Cambodia. 00:15:30.43\00:15:33.33 As a family, we've traveled, I think, 6 times 00:15:33.36\00:15:36.03 and I've been there 10 times to Cambodia. 00:15:36.06\00:15:38.97 During our visit with ASAP to Cambodia that first time, 00:15:39.00\00:15:44.27 we have another picture here that shows 00:15:44.31\00:15:46.31 one of this literacy schools 00:15:46.34\00:15:47.78 and one of the ASAP literacy schools there 00:15:47.81\00:15:49.54 that just touched our hearts, 00:15:49.58\00:15:51.01 you'll notice the school in the background there. 00:15:51.05\00:15:53.01 One thing you'll also notice 00:15:53.05\00:15:54.38 is the average age of these are the teachers, 00:15:54.42\00:15:56.89 these aren't the students in this picture, 00:15:56.92\00:15:58.99 14 to 16 years old, 00:15:59.02\00:16:00.86 these young people volunteering 00:16:00.89\00:16:02.76 to teach these kids, 00:16:02.79\00:16:04.46 200 kids in that small school 00:16:04.49\00:16:06.66 that were just being blessed by the Ministry of ASAP. 00:16:06.70\00:16:09.30 And it just touched our hearts 00:16:09.33\00:16:10.67 with the need that exists for training 00:16:10.70\00:16:12.30 for these young people that were so willing to serve. 00:16:12.33\00:16:14.77 And so then the next picture shows 00:16:14.80\00:16:17.64 one of the largest trainings 00:16:17.67\00:16:19.44 that we worked with ASAP in cooperation 00:16:19.47\00:16:21.94 with some other ASI ministries as well 00:16:21.98\00:16:25.01 for training teachers and church planters, 00:16:25.05\00:16:27.92 medical missionaries in the schools, 00:16:27.95\00:16:29.88 and throughout the countries and particularly Cambodia. 00:16:29.92\00:16:34.16 It was such a blessing. 00:16:34.19\00:16:35.72 And that is where I found ASI 00:16:35.76\00:16:38.89 and the connections that you make 00:16:38.93\00:16:41.40 with these ministries. 00:16:41.43\00:16:42.96 The blessing that you gain from that goes far beyond 00:16:43.00\00:16:46.27 what we maybe give in terms of 00:16:46.30\00:16:47.94 you know, financial support or things like that. 00:16:47.97\00:16:50.14 It's been for our family, 00:16:50.17\00:16:52.24 the opportunity to be involved with our time 00:16:52.27\00:16:54.98 and to just share the blessings 00:16:55.01\00:16:58.15 that God's given us with connections that we have. 00:16:58.18\00:17:01.28 Canada currently doesn't have an ASAP presence really. 00:17:01.32\00:17:04.65 And so, you know, 00:17:04.69\00:17:06.02 connections that we have in Canada, 00:17:06.05\00:17:07.39 where we're from, 00:17:07.42\00:17:08.76 to be able to share it at camp meetings 00:17:08.79\00:17:10.13 and also to raise the ability for donations 00:17:10.16\00:17:13.29 to be made in Canada as well 00:17:13.33\00:17:14.96 is something that we've been working 00:17:15.00\00:17:16.33 recently with ASAP on as well. 00:17:16.36\00:17:17.83 Wow, I tell you it sounds like 00:17:17.87\00:17:19.20 connections is the real word here. 00:17:19.23\00:17:20.57 Exactly. That's great. 00:17:20.60\00:17:21.94 So tell us about the project for this year. 00:17:21.97\00:17:24.01 How will offerings provide support to ASAP? 00:17:24.04\00:17:26.68 Well, ASAP has a missionary tentmaker program. 00:17:26.71\00:17:29.88 And what that is, 00:17:29.91\00:17:31.25 is where we train young people to do a trade, 00:17:31.28\00:17:34.88 like become a barber 00:17:34.92\00:17:37.02 but also train them to be missionaries. 00:17:37.05\00:17:39.62 And we support them along the way. 00:17:39.65\00:17:42.56 And we're so excited about this project, 00:17:42.59\00:17:44.76 it seems like such a perfect fit 00:17:44.79\00:17:46.29 with ASI 00:17:46.33\00:17:47.66 because it's like missions and ministry 00:17:47.70\00:17:49.96 right in the marketplace. 00:17:50.00\00:17:51.37 Oh, that's wonderful. 00:17:51.40\00:17:52.73 So if that's something 00:17:52.77\00:17:54.10 that you really are excited about, then, huh, Curtis? 00:17:54.14\00:17:55.47 Absolutely. 00:17:55.50\00:17:56.84 As a business owner, we love to see 00:17:56.87\00:17:58.37 where projects can be self-sustaining, 00:17:58.41\00:18:00.41 where they can... 00:18:00.44\00:18:01.81 People can be equipped, 00:18:01.84\00:18:03.18 and then they can go 00:18:03.21\00:18:04.55 and be able to support themselves. 00:18:04.58\00:18:06.18 And so that's very exciting to see 00:18:06.21\00:18:08.98 this project move forward 00:18:09.02\00:18:10.35 where these Bible workers are able to go 00:18:10.39\00:18:13.22 into their communities 00:18:13.25\00:18:14.59 and share Christ in their marketplace, 00:18:14.62\00:18:16.86 trade like barber or different, you know, repairing skills, 00:18:16.89\00:18:21.56 different things like that, 00:18:21.60\00:18:22.93 where they can go and create 00:18:22.96\00:18:24.33 their own way to support themselves 00:18:24.37\00:18:25.83 and then share Christ. 00:18:25.87\00:18:27.60 You know, I think it's pretty amazing 00:18:27.64\00:18:29.44 that we hear lots of stories 00:18:29.47\00:18:31.44 about the impact on people around the world. 00:18:31.47\00:18:34.08 But what you've shared with me, Curtis, 00:18:34.11\00:18:35.71 tells me that being involved changes you. 00:18:35.74\00:18:39.38 Absolutely. 00:18:39.41\00:18:40.75 So it's more than just what you give 00:18:40.78\00:18:42.32 just in the offering plate is what you give personally. 00:18:42.35\00:18:45.05 So that's really fantastic. 00:18:45.09\00:18:46.42 Julia, you were gonna say something. 00:18:46.45\00:18:47.79 Yes, about the project that we're doing. 00:18:47.82\00:18:52.49 One reason why it's so important 00:18:52.53\00:18:54.96 is because in these close countries 00:18:55.00\00:18:56.80 that we work in, 00:18:56.83\00:18:58.17 a lot of missionaries can't go into a village 00:18:58.20\00:19:00.27 and say, "Oh, I'm a missionary. 00:19:00.30\00:19:02.07 And I want to tell you about Jesus" 00:19:02.10\00:19:04.77 because of communism or Buddhism 00:19:04.81\00:19:07.34 or different reasons. 00:19:07.38\00:19:08.71 And so this project, 00:19:08.74\00:19:10.21 having them have a trade really helps. 00:19:10.25\00:19:13.82 And also, just to emphasize, 00:19:13.85\00:19:16.05 we ASAP has been so blessed by the Letniak family 00:19:16.08\00:19:19.99 and so we just love the volunteers 00:19:20.02\00:19:22.86 and the help in the mission trips. 00:19:22.89\00:19:24.43 And so we just want to encourage 00:19:24.46\00:19:25.79 more people to get involved. 00:19:25.83\00:19:27.16 Amen, amen. 00:19:27.20\00:19:28.53 Thank you very much, Julia and Curtis, 00:19:28.56\00:19:30.03 for your contribution to our program. 00:19:30.07\00:19:33.90 Amen. Okay, I'll be ready. 00:22:20.54\00:22:21.87 So you got to make sure you're paying attention. 00:22:21.90\00:22:23.24 Okay. 00:22:23.27\00:22:24.61 So I want you to notice what are some of the problems 00:22:24.64\00:22:25.97 that people are facing in these communities 00:22:26.01\00:22:27.61 where we serve 00:22:27.64\00:22:28.98 and then we'll talk about the solutions as well. 00:22:29.01\00:22:30.38 Okay, very good. 00:22:30.41\00:22:31.75 Let's look at that video. 00:22:31.78\00:22:33.11 I want to tell you a story. 00:22:36.48\00:22:39.42 There was once a village 00:22:39.45\00:22:40.79 deep in the heart of East Africa, 00:22:40.82\00:22:42.56 passing by, one can see there 00:22:42.59\00:22:44.26 were lots of children and laughter, 00:22:44.29\00:22:46.66 farms that stretch for miles 00:22:46.70\00:22:48.33 and everyone beam huge grins as people drove by. 00:22:48.36\00:22:52.50 Many passed and wave to the friendly villagers, 00:22:52.53\00:22:55.10 but there were things that lay hidden 00:22:55.14\00:22:56.47 beyond the sight of a passing car window. 00:22:56.50\00:22:59.61 No one saw the villagers scavenging in trees 00:22:59.64\00:23:02.31 looking for leaves to eat. 00:23:02.34\00:23:03.91 No one seemed to understand 00:23:03.95\00:23:05.45 that no matter how hard they tried, 00:23:05.48\00:23:07.52 those miles of farmland 00:23:07.55\00:23:08.95 had stopped producing food years ago, 00:23:08.98\00:23:11.52 their soil was dying. 00:23:11.55\00:23:13.05 And the village's drinking water 00:23:13.09\00:23:14.46 was contaminated with feces and roadside chemicals. 00:23:14.49\00:23:18.06 No one knew that the village's children 00:23:18.09\00:23:19.89 were hungry. 00:23:19.93\00:23:21.26 Things were getting worse. 00:23:21.30\00:23:22.63 Children were dying now. 00:23:22.66\00:23:24.00 It didn't used to be this way. 00:23:24.03\00:23:26.50 FARM STEW is an acronym 00:23:26.53\00:23:28.37 for a recipe to an abundant life. 00:23:28.40\00:23:32.04 The ingredients are farming, attitude, rest, meals, 00:23:32.07\00:23:38.61 sanitation, temperance, enterprise, and water. 00:23:38.65\00:23:44.22 The ingredients encourage change 00:23:44.25\00:23:46.19 using education to improve the health 00:23:46.22\00:23:48.62 and well-being of poor families and vulnerable people. 00:23:48.66\00:23:52.89 I saw FARM STEW demonstrate 00:23:52.93\00:23:55.03 and how to effectively repair the soil 00:23:55.06\00:23:57.23 and grow nutritionally sensitive crops 00:23:57.27\00:23:59.23 like soy and fruit trees. 00:23:59.27\00:24:01.34 I witnessed the first farmer field school 00:24:01.37\00:24:04.01 being used to teach a community how to grow their own food. 00:24:04.04\00:24:08.31 Six brand new wells were installed 00:24:08.34\00:24:10.71 in our communities. 00:24:10.75\00:24:12.11 Clean sparkling water 00:24:12.15\00:24:13.52 flowed out to all who needed it. 00:24:13.55\00:24:15.92 I watched FARM STEW make soy milk, 00:24:15.95\00:24:18.05 whole grain porches and teach how to collect 00:24:18.09\00:24:20.42 nutritious greens growing wild in the field 00:24:20.46\00:24:24.09 that children of these communities 00:24:24.13\00:24:25.76 were not going to starve. 00:24:25.79\00:24:27.40 FARM STEW is a tool to meet people's needs 00:24:27.43\00:24:29.86 and bring the love of Jesus to the works of this church. 00:24:29.90\00:24:34.60 Okay, so let's see 00:24:34.64\00:24:35.97 how well you were paying attention. 00:24:36.00\00:24:37.34 Okay. 00:24:37.37\00:24:38.71 What were some of the problems you saw they faced? 00:24:38.74\00:24:40.11 Well, what I noticed first 00:24:40.14\00:24:41.84 is that kids were climbing 00:24:41.88\00:24:43.24 into the trees looking for food. 00:24:43.28\00:24:45.58 Then I noticed 00:24:45.61\00:24:46.95 that they don't have clean water. 00:24:46.98\00:24:49.88 The third was their farm fields are depleted of nutrients 00:24:49.92\00:24:53.76 so they don't produce good food. 00:24:53.79\00:24:56.12 And the last which really touched my heart, 00:24:56.16\00:24:58.33 Joy, was that children are actually dying, 00:24:58.36\00:25:01.06 because they don't have food to eat. 00:25:01.10\00:25:03.30 Oh, wow, you paid close attention. 00:25:03.33\00:25:05.77 And in fact, 9 million people die every year 00:25:05.80\00:25:09.24 of hunger related diseases. 00:25:09.27\00:25:10.81 Can you imagine? That's terrible. 00:25:10.84\00:25:12.84 Now I did say 00:25:12.87\00:25:14.21 that they were talking about solutions. 00:25:14.24\00:25:15.58 So my question to you, Joy, 00:25:15.61\00:25:16.95 is what do the refugee outreach teams 00:25:16.98\00:25:22.28 have to do with the solutions? 00:25:22.32\00:25:24.09 How are they affecting those in that area? 00:25:24.12\00:25:25.95 So our trainers are teaching people 00:25:25.99\00:25:28.12 how to cultivate the soil that makes it grow amazingly. 00:25:28.16\00:25:31.09 And I want to show you a picture of a soybean field 00:25:31.13\00:25:33.70 and a vegetable garden. 00:25:33.73\00:25:35.33 Now Amon is one of the trainers there, 00:25:35.36\00:25:37.43 he's with the green mask. 00:25:37.47\00:25:39.20 Amon was a teacher. 00:25:39.23\00:25:40.70 And when he learned about the FARM STEW message, 00:25:40.74\00:25:43.64 he said, "I want to teach my people 00:25:43.67\00:25:45.54 the recipe of FARM STEW." 00:25:45.57\00:25:47.11 So you can see they're doing mods, 00:25:47.14\00:25:48.78 they're doing composts, they're doing nutrition, 00:25:48.81\00:25:51.25 sensitive agriculture. 00:25:51.28\00:25:52.61 So we're making sure that people get the foods 00:25:52.65\00:25:54.38 that they need, 00:25:54.42\00:25:55.75 not just enough to fill the belly 00:25:55.78\00:25:57.65 but enough to nourish the blood. 00:25:57.69\00:25:59.42 You know, the Bible says the life of the flesh 00:25:59.45\00:26:01.39 is in the blood. 00:26:01.42\00:26:02.76 And that makes all the difference. 00:26:02.79\00:26:04.13 Wow. 00:26:04.16\00:26:05.49 So they're really making a difference to people 00:26:05.53\00:26:07.23 all over the areas where they're living. 00:26:07.26\00:26:08.60 Yeah. 00:26:08.63\00:26:09.96 And the refugee outreach team since it began, 00:26:10.00\00:26:11.83 since ASI began supporting us, 00:26:11.87\00:26:13.87 we have trained over 14,000 participants 00:26:13.90\00:26:17.07 with just that team alone in over 1,000 training events. 00:26:17.11\00:26:21.34 So tell me when you say 14,000 participants, 00:26:21.38\00:26:24.01 what does that mean exactly? 00:26:24.05\00:26:25.38 So what that means is 00:26:25.41\00:26:26.75 we want people to come back again and again. 00:26:26.78\00:26:28.42 It's like a discipleship program. 00:26:28.45\00:26:30.12 Really, our curriculum is based on the Bible, 00:26:30.15\00:26:31.95 inspired by the Spirit of Prophecy 00:26:31.99\00:26:33.89 but also infused with sound science. 00:26:33.92\00:26:36.42 So my training is in public health. 00:26:36.46\00:26:38.29 And so it's a very holistic look 00:26:38.33\00:26:40.20 at what do people need to thrive. 00:26:40.23\00:26:41.90 So they come back again and again, 00:26:41.93\00:26:43.87 they sign in every time 00:26:43.90\00:26:45.23 and we have a tremendous database. 00:26:45.27\00:26:47.90 So there's real accountability, 00:26:47.94\00:26:49.40 and we're auditing 00:26:49.44\00:26:50.77 all of our organizations and everything. 00:26:50.81\00:26:52.14 So there's real accountability for every dollar 00:26:52.17\00:26:53.91 that an ASI member gives. 00:26:53.94\00:26:55.78 In what countries is FARM STEW presently? 00:26:55.81\00:26:58.18 So we're in Uganda, 00:26:58.21\00:26:59.55 then we were invited 00:26:59.58\00:27:00.92 by the president of the church in South Sudan to come there. 00:27:00.95\00:27:03.72 We're in Zimbabwe, we've just launched in Cuba. 00:27:03.75\00:27:07.02 And we are going to launch in Rwanda. 00:27:07.06\00:27:10.06 COVID slowed us down a bit, but it's not going to stop us. 00:27:10.09\00:27:12.86 So is FARM STEW just for third world countries? 00:27:12.89\00:27:15.40 No, we are so excited 00:27:15.43\00:27:16.93 because this recipe of abundant life 00:27:16.97\00:27:19.23 really applies to all of us. 00:27:19.27\00:27:20.74 And if you go to our website, farmstew.org, 00:27:20.77\00:27:24.34 you will wait just maybe 10 seconds, 00:27:24.37\00:27:26.34 and there'll be a pop up. 00:27:26.37\00:27:27.71 And you can get your own FARM STEW wellness guide 00:27:27.74\00:27:30.18 that goes through each letter of the acronym 00:27:30.21\00:27:32.15 and shows how you can apply it to your life 00:27:32.18\00:27:34.75 to improve your health and well-being as well. 00:27:34.78\00:27:36.82 Wow, that's fantastic. 00:27:36.85\00:27:38.32 Thank you so much for sharing what FARM STEW has done, 00:27:38.35\00:27:41.36 how ASI has helped, 00:27:41.39\00:27:42.86 and what FARM STEW is doing to make a difference 00:27:42.89\00:27:44.76 to people in various countries in Africa. 00:27:44.79\00:27:47.00 Thank you, Joy. Amen. 00:27:47.03\00:27:48.36 And we love being part of the ASI family 00:27:48.40\00:27:50.27 and just partnering with the other ministries 00:27:50.30\00:27:51.87 and coming together and getting this job done 00:27:51.90\00:27:54.17 so Jesus can come back and we can all go home. 00:27:54.20\00:27:56.81 Wonderful. 00:27:56.84\00:27:58.17 Thank you very much, Joy. Amen. 00:27:58.21\00:27:59.64 Thank you. 00:27:59.67\00:28:03.04 Thank you, Debbie and Joy, for that amazing interview. 00:28:03.08\00:28:06.51 We're going next to Jesus for Asia. 00:28:06.55\00:28:10.19 Now Jesus for Asia is an amazing ministry 00:28:10.22\00:28:14.29 led out by John and Natalie Wood. 00:28:14.32\00:28:16.16 And we feel a little affinity 00:28:16.19\00:28:18.29 you could say to John and Natalie Wood 00:28:18.33\00:28:20.00 because they used to work here at 3ABN. 00:28:20.03\00:28:22.30 And we always say, 00:28:22.33\00:28:23.67 once you're part of the 3ABN family, 00:28:23.70\00:28:25.40 you're always part of the 3ABN family. 00:28:25.43\00:28:28.84 And Jesus for Asia, 00:28:28.87\00:28:30.31 this role specifically focuses on their work in Cambodia. 00:28:30.34\00:28:34.34 Yeah, really, it's an amazing story. 00:28:34.38\00:28:36.71 And Julia O'Carey had the opportunity, 00:28:36.75\00:28:38.48 sitting down with John and Natalie Wood 00:28:38.51\00:28:40.85 and then a special, I want to say, 00:28:40.88\00:28:43.72 testimony from Miranda as well, an incredible story. 00:28:43.75\00:28:47.66 We know that you'll enjoy this role. 00:28:47.69\00:28:49.82 So let's go to that right now. 00:28:49.86\00:28:51.73 Cambodia is a Buddhist country, 00:29:01.80\00:29:04.54 95% of the population are Buddhists. 00:29:04.57\00:29:07.98 So there's no question 00:29:08.01\00:29:09.54 that this country needs the gospel. 00:29:09.58\00:29:14.88 Cambodia has about 18 million people. 00:29:14.92\00:29:17.55 And I think about 3% are Christian. 00:29:17.59\00:29:22.52 And currently we have 00:29:22.56\00:29:23.99 around about 3000 active 00:29:24.03\00:29:25.89 Seventh-day Adventist Church members 00:29:25.93\00:29:27.50 in the country. 00:29:27.53\00:29:28.86 So you can see there's this huge need. 00:29:28.90\00:29:31.50 In this whole big country, 00:29:31.53\00:29:33.34 I think we have about seven pastors. 00:29:33.37\00:29:36.74 Imagine the whole country has seven pastors. 00:29:36.77\00:29:39.24 We need to create an environment 00:29:39.27\00:29:42.18 where people will be open to the gospel. 00:29:42.21\00:29:46.18 One way of doing it is to open up schools. 00:29:46.21\00:29:50.69 Battambang is the second largest city 00:29:50.72\00:29:53.05 as well as province in Cambodia 00:29:53.09\00:29:55.42 and we do not have any school at all. 00:29:55.46\00:29:58.79 Our mission is a small mission, 00:30:02.36\00:30:04.30 and tithe per capita is only $34. 00:30:04.33\00:30:09.80 So it would be impossible 00:30:09.84\00:30:13.38 for a small mission like Cambodia Mission 00:30:13.41\00:30:16.44 to be able to have the funding 00:30:16.48\00:30:20.62 needed to start a school. 00:30:20.65\00:30:26.09 The idea was written down in 2015 00:30:26.12\00:30:32.66 when the Cambodia Adventist Mission 00:30:32.69\00:30:34.53 had a strategic planning for the next five years. 00:30:34.56\00:30:37.40 And so it's been on the books since then. 00:30:37.43\00:30:41.50 And when Miranda came along, 00:30:41.54\00:30:43.91 saying, "I want to build a school," 00:30:43.94\00:30:45.71 I said, "Miranda, I've got a perfect project for you. 00:30:45.74\00:30:48.28 Go and see the mission president 00:30:48.31\00:30:49.64 and tell him what you want to do." 00:30:49.68\00:30:51.01 It's great to see you, John, Natalie and Miranda. 00:30:54.18\00:30:57.65 It's extra special and fun that I get to interview friends 00:30:57.69\00:31:02.12 and especially since it's about a project 00:31:02.16\00:31:04.46 that is so close to our hearts. 00:31:04.49\00:31:07.30 So, Miranda, you've been instrumental, 00:31:07.33\00:31:09.80 God has used you in developing this project. 00:31:09.83\00:31:13.64 And I know it all started with a literal dream. 00:31:13.67\00:31:16.50 Can you tell us a little bit about it? 00:31:16.54\00:31:19.01 Yes. 00:31:19.04\00:31:20.38 So when I was 15 years old, 00:31:20.41\00:31:22.94 I was really praying for God 00:31:22.98\00:31:25.45 to show me what He had for my life. 00:31:25.48\00:31:27.58 And He gave me a dream 00:31:27.62\00:31:30.09 where I was walking along a path towards my house, 00:31:30.12\00:31:33.79 and a tall, shiny man stood there and told me 00:31:33.82\00:31:36.83 to find a missionary organization 00:31:36.86\00:31:39.03 in Tennessee and a man named Elder Wood. 00:31:39.06\00:31:42.13 And it took about five years for me to find them 00:31:42.16\00:31:44.93 and learned about them 00:31:44.97\00:31:46.30 through a faith camp that they put on. 00:31:46.33\00:31:48.27 And at that time, when I met them, 00:31:48.30\00:31:49.77 I was already signed up to go as a student missionary 00:31:49.80\00:31:51.97 for a year 00:31:52.01\00:31:53.34 with Adventist frontier missions. 00:31:53.38\00:31:55.24 And while I was over there for that year, 00:31:55.28\00:31:56.95 that's when Tim introduced the project to me. 00:31:56.98\00:31:59.98 Wow. 00:32:00.02\00:32:01.35 And I think at the same time, 00:32:01.38\00:32:02.72 you were praying for somebody 00:32:02.75\00:32:04.65 that had a master's in education, right, John? 00:32:04.69\00:32:08.66 That's correct. 00:32:08.69\00:32:10.03 2011, I saw a huge need for someone to open schools 00:32:10.06\00:32:15.26 and in that area, 00:32:15.30\00:32:17.10 and we needed somebody with master's in education. 00:32:17.13\00:32:19.60 So I prayed, 00:32:19.63\00:32:20.97 thinking and all this is impossible 00:32:21.00\00:32:22.34 and not knowing that God was preparing somebody 00:32:22.37\00:32:25.17 at that very point in time. 00:32:25.21\00:32:26.57 And what's really cool is that now recently, 00:32:26.61\00:32:30.28 another couple, another family has joined us and Natalie, 00:32:30.31\00:32:34.12 the lady of that family 00:32:34.15\00:32:35.48 has also a master's in education. 00:32:35.52\00:32:38.09 Not me. 00:32:38.12\00:32:39.45 Another Natalie. Yes, yes. 00:32:39.49\00:32:41.92 I think we have a picture of them too to show. 00:32:41.96\00:32:44.93 That's correct. 00:32:44.96\00:32:46.29 Yeah, there they are. 00:32:46.33\00:32:48.80 Danielle is behind that person, 00:32:48.83\00:32:50.67 but she has a master's in education. 00:32:50.70\00:32:53.20 And then Lloyd will be looking 00:32:53.23\00:32:54.94 over the construction of the project. 00:32:54.97\00:32:56.74 Wow. 00:32:56.77\00:32:58.11 Well, Miranda, give us a little progress update 00:32:58.14\00:33:00.21 on this school. 00:33:00.24\00:33:04.01 Okay, so we're hoping to build a boarding academy 00:33:04.05\00:33:08.62 that's for 7th through 12th grade. 00:33:08.65\00:33:11.52 And the goal is that in this area, 00:33:11.55\00:33:14.16 we will be able to share Jesus with our students 00:33:14.19\00:33:17.33 but also with the local community 00:33:17.36\00:33:18.79 because there's not a lot of Adventist presence 00:33:18.83\00:33:21.10 in that area, 00:33:21.13\00:33:22.60 even churches or workers in that direct location. 00:33:22.63\00:33:26.07 So we're really hoping that that will be what we can do. 00:33:26.10\00:33:29.70 And they're also right now... 00:33:29.74\00:33:32.44 We're working on clearing the land 00:33:32.47\00:33:36.68 is what they're just finishing up, 00:33:36.71\00:33:38.05 they got to go ahead to clear land 00:33:38.08\00:33:40.75 after we checked for land mines. 00:33:40.78\00:33:42.78 And so we would have built already except that COVID hit, 00:33:42.82\00:33:48.16 we would have built our first building, 00:33:48.19\00:33:49.52 but hopefully that will come very soon. 00:33:49.56\00:33:51.66 Yeah. 00:33:51.69\00:33:53.03 So what has been going on during the COVID time, John? 00:33:53.06\00:33:57.10 Have you just been sitting around? 00:33:57.13\00:33:59.20 I doubt it. 00:33:59.23\00:34:01.07 No, God's been expanding in so many ways. 00:34:01.10\00:34:03.74 We saw some real needs there, 00:34:03.77\00:34:05.57 a lot of families are struggling 00:34:05.61\00:34:07.61 with getting enough nutrition during this time. 00:34:07.64\00:34:10.38 And so we've been providing about 48 families in the area 00:34:10.41\00:34:15.45 with some nutrition packs to help them keep going, 00:34:15.48\00:34:18.49 which is a really great way 00:34:18.52\00:34:19.85 to connect with the local community. 00:34:19.89\00:34:23.19 That's so beautiful. 00:34:23.22\00:34:25.26 Thank you so much for sharing. 00:34:25.29\00:34:27.63 What is a website or a way 00:34:27.66\00:34:29.66 that we can stay updated on this project 00:34:29.70\00:34:31.77 'cause it's so important, 00:34:31.80\00:34:33.13 I really see the need for it 00:34:33.17\00:34:34.77 'cause Cambodia needs schools like this. 00:34:34.80\00:34:37.91 So how can people keep in touch with that? 00:34:37.94\00:34:43.04 We can go to Jesus4Asia.org. 00:34:43.08\00:34:46.72 And all of our projects are there 00:34:46.75\00:34:48.78 and this is a big one. 00:34:48.82\00:34:50.72 And so Jesus4Asia.org. 00:34:50.75\00:34:53.52 Okay, well, good. 00:34:53.56\00:34:55.99 And I do want to say congratulations, Miranda, 00:34:56.02\00:34:59.03 for your engagement. 00:34:59.06\00:35:00.70 That's very exciting. 00:35:00.73\00:35:02.56 And it's actually special that you're engaged 00:35:02.60\00:35:04.93 to John and Natalie's son. 00:35:04.97\00:35:06.67 So that is so cool. 00:35:06.70\00:35:08.90 Well, God bless you. 00:35:08.94\00:35:10.57 And this project will be praying 00:35:10.61\00:35:12.94 and we just know that God is going to do 00:35:12.97\00:35:14.94 amazing things through it. 00:35:14.98\00:35:16.71 Thank you so much for sharing with ASI. 00:35:16.75\00:35:19.68 Thank you. Thank you. 00:35:19.71\00:35:21.05 I love to hear testimonies. 00:35:24.42\00:35:25.95 I love to hear what God is doing 00:35:25.99\00:35:28.39 in and through ministries around the world. 00:35:28.42\00:35:30.76 You know what really touched my heart? 00:35:30.79\00:35:32.13 What's that? 00:35:32.16\00:35:33.50 Was, of course we know Cambodia, 00:35:33.53\00:35:35.26 as they mentioned, as a Buddhist country. 00:35:35.30\00:35:37.00 95% of the population is Buddhists. 00:35:37.03\00:35:39.63 It's amazing. 00:35:39.67\00:35:41.00 Only 3% Christians, and yet in that entire country, 00:35:41.04\00:35:46.78 3% of the people are Christians, 00:35:46.81\00:35:48.71 there are only 7 pastors, 00:35:48.74\00:35:51.25 what an amazing pastors 00:35:51.28\00:35:53.92 within the Seventh-day Adventist Church, 00:35:53.95\00:35:55.28 what an amazing mission field. 00:35:55.32\00:35:58.39 So God calls us to do mission work, 00:35:58.42\00:36:00.62 God calls us to support mission work, 00:36:00.66\00:36:03.49 to get out of our own selves, you could say in those needs, 00:36:03.53\00:36:08.26 and to look into the needs of other people, 00:36:08.30\00:36:10.27 people who are lost and alone and dying 00:36:10.30\00:36:13.07 without knowledge of Jesus. 00:36:13.10\00:36:14.87 And that is what Jesus for Asia is doing. 00:36:14.90\00:36:17.81 Didn't you enjoy the story also of Miranda? 00:36:17.84\00:36:19.71 You know, and how God gave her a dream as a young person 00:36:19.74\00:36:22.74 about helping a ministry in Tennessee, 00:36:22.78\00:36:25.45 and look where God has placed her now. 00:36:25.48\00:36:27.35 I mean, it's just incredible. 00:36:27.38\00:36:29.42 We want to encourage you that God is alive and well. 00:36:29.45\00:36:32.72 Amen. 00:36:32.75\00:36:34.09 Just make Him first in your life. 00:36:34.12\00:36:35.89 And, man, God would just incredibly bless you. 00:36:35.92\00:36:39.89 What ministry are we going to next? 00:36:39.93\00:36:41.43 We're going to Adventist World Radio. 00:36:41.46\00:36:43.57 All right, that's a big one. 00:36:43.60\00:36:44.93 They have been here many times 00:36:44.97\00:36:46.63 of course, Dwayne McKee is the president. 00:36:46.67\00:36:48.80 And if anyone does evangelism, 00:36:48.84\00:36:50.77 Adventist World Radio does evangelism. 00:36:50.81\00:36:54.28 Debbie Young had the opportunity 00:36:54.31\00:36:56.04 to interview Kyle Allen, 00:36:56.08\00:36:57.71 who was the vice president there at AWR. 00:36:57.75\00:37:00.32 One of the things they talked about 00:37:00.35\00:37:01.85 was the unlocking Bible Prophecy series 00:37:01.88\00:37:04.32 that virtually streamed with Cami Oetman, 00:37:04.35\00:37:07.06 she's a precious woman of God, 00:37:07.09\00:37:08.96 they had over 2 million people watch this series. 00:37:08.99\00:37:13.86 They're working with 10,000 digital missionaries, 00:37:13.90\00:37:16.43 and I think there's quite a bit more. 00:37:16.46\00:37:18.23 So let's go to that role and listen in. 00:37:18.27\00:37:20.84 That sounds good. 00:37:20.87\00:37:23.00 Hi, Kyle. 00:37:23.04\00:37:24.37 It's so good to have you here with us, 00:37:24.41\00:37:26.37 from Adventist World Radio as one of the vice presidents. 00:37:26.41\00:37:29.21 Why don't you tell us a little bit 00:37:29.24\00:37:30.58 about Adventist World Radio, 00:37:30.61\00:37:31.95 some of the countries where it is ministering 00:37:31.98\00:37:35.78 and some of the ways 00:37:35.82\00:37:37.15 that Adventist World Radio was ministering to people? 00:37:37.19\00:37:40.19 Amen. 00:37:40.22\00:37:41.56 Thank you, Debbie. It's great to see you. 00:37:41.59\00:37:43.12 And good to be with you here at ASI. 00:37:43.16\00:37:45.39 You know, AWR is an incredible ministry 00:37:45.43\00:37:48.20 that I'm really privileged to serve in. 00:37:48.23\00:37:49.90 And it has been for over 50 years, 00:37:49.93\00:37:52.83 almost 50 years, 00:37:52.87\00:37:54.20 broadcasting the Adventist message 00:37:54.24\00:37:56.20 to the world, to the places 00:37:56.24\00:37:58.37 where it's hardest to reach even, 00:37:58.41\00:37:59.74 our motto, no walls, no borders, no limits. 00:37:59.77\00:38:02.44 The radio waves and the digital waves now 00:38:02.48\00:38:05.41 it can reach into areas 00:38:05.45\00:38:06.82 that missionaries can't even go. 00:38:06.85\00:38:08.68 So in over 130 languages, Debbie, 00:38:08.72\00:38:10.89 on over 1,000 stations worldwide 00:38:10.92\00:38:13.25 through FM, AM, digital shortwave 00:38:13.29\00:38:16.09 and now through social media, 00:38:16.12\00:38:17.93 the internet podcasts, God pods, you name it, 00:38:17.96\00:38:21.10 whatever medium we can use 00:38:21.13\00:38:23.63 to get the gospel to the world 00:38:23.67\00:38:25.67 is what we're all about 00:38:25.70\00:38:27.04 because we believe Jesus is coming soon. 00:38:27.07\00:38:29.14 And He has called us to proclaim 00:38:29.17\00:38:30.51 the three angels' messages to the world. 00:38:30.54\00:38:32.44 Amen. 00:38:32.47\00:38:33.81 So then tell me with all these ways 00:38:33.84\00:38:35.54 that you're able to proclaim the gospel, 00:38:35.58\00:38:37.65 what kind of impact has the pandemic had 00:38:37.68\00:38:40.75 on AWR's outreach? 00:38:40.78\00:38:43.22 Well, you know, that's a good question, Debbie. 00:38:43.25\00:38:45.99 The pandemic, of course, slowed us down, 00:38:46.02\00:38:48.09 we've not been able to travel as much 00:38:48.12\00:38:49.96 and go to the places to help build up the work. 00:38:49.99\00:38:52.99 But in an unusual way, 00:38:53.03\00:38:55.00 it's given us even bigger opportunities 00:38:55.03\00:38:57.70 that we never would have dreamed of, 00:38:57.73\00:38:59.07 at the beginning of this year. 00:38:59.10\00:39:00.67 Like a lot of ministries, 00:39:00.70\00:39:02.04 we had to shift a lot of our focus online. 00:39:02.07\00:39:04.31 And so through the Unlocking Bible Prophecy series 00:39:04.34\00:39:07.84 with Cami Oetman in which you'll hear about 00:39:07.88\00:39:09.98 a little bit later this weekend, 00:39:10.01\00:39:12.08 God blessed in a tremendous way. 00:39:12.11\00:39:13.92 And through social media, through YouTube, Facebook, 00:39:13.95\00:39:17.15 we were able to reach over 2 million people 00:39:17.19\00:39:19.55 who have viewed the content of Unlocking Bible Prophecies, 00:39:19.59\00:39:23.16 thousands of people requesting Bible studies. 00:39:23.19\00:39:25.99 And still today, Debbie, 00:39:26.03\00:39:27.36 over 30,000 new viewers per day 00:39:27.40\00:39:29.23 are watching her series on YouTube. 00:39:29.26\00:39:31.43 So God is really blessing 00:39:31.47\00:39:33.23 through the Unlocking Bible Prophecy series. 00:39:33.27\00:39:35.97 In addition, 00:39:36.00\00:39:37.34 we've been able to work 00:39:37.37\00:39:38.71 with over 10,000 digital missionaries, 00:39:38.74\00:39:40.41 some of whom are just posting on their Facebook, 00:39:40.44\00:39:42.68 sharing the content, 00:39:42.71\00:39:44.05 some of whom are actually answering 00:39:44.08\00:39:45.41 Bible questions and praying with people 00:39:45.45\00:39:47.95 but engaging lay people 00:39:47.98\00:39:49.48 in the work of responding to the interest 00:39:49.52\00:39:51.89 in these prophetic meetings. 00:39:51.92\00:39:53.32 But you know, 00:39:53.36\00:39:54.69 that's during the pandemic time, 00:39:54.72\00:39:56.06 you know, I could say so many other things 00:39:56.09\00:39:58.39 about the work of AWR. 00:39:58.43\00:39:59.89 Of course, we talked about radio, 00:39:59.93\00:40:01.60 which is actually still happening now, of course, 00:40:01.63\00:40:03.80 even though the pandemic is bad, 00:40:03.83\00:40:05.97 people are stuck in their homes. 00:40:06.00\00:40:07.54 One example, Debbie, in the Philippines, 00:40:07.57\00:40:09.94 the island of Mindoro, where just three years ago, 00:40:09.97\00:40:12.54 we didn't have Adventist Radio practically on the island. 00:40:12.57\00:40:16.08 Now by God's grace, we have 12 stations, 00:40:16.11\00:40:19.18 over 131 villages 00:40:19.21\00:40:21.72 that are listening to Adventist World Radio 00:40:21.75\00:40:23.75 and just got the numbers in yesterday 00:40:23.79\00:40:25.55 over 10,000 have been baptized, 00:40:25.59\00:40:27.92 including some communist rebels 00:40:27.96\00:40:30.36 who live in the mountains of this island. 00:40:30.39\00:40:33.36 And all because of radio. 00:40:33.40\00:40:35.63 It's incredible what God is doing 00:40:35.66\00:40:37.40 in an undisclosed country. 00:40:37.43\00:40:39.50 In Asia, Debbie, 00:40:39.53\00:40:41.17 we have over 80 believers now 00:40:41.20\00:40:43.00 who are listening to the Adventist message 00:40:43.04\00:40:44.77 through AWR 00:40:44.81\00:40:46.14 because they heard it on shortwave radio. 00:40:46.17\00:40:48.61 And their lives are threatened by, you know, 00:40:48.64\00:40:50.75 the Muslim authorities in the area, 00:40:50.78\00:40:52.11 but they have heard the truth, 00:40:52.15\00:40:54.05 and they are faithfully listening now 00:40:54.08\00:40:56.05 and wanting to be baptized. 00:40:56.08\00:40:57.49 So just a couple of examples, of course, Papua New Guinea, 00:40:57.52\00:41:01.42 we've got radio there as well. 00:41:01.46\00:41:03.32 And before the pandemic, 00:41:03.36\00:41:05.16 you know, we had planned to go there 00:41:05.19\00:41:06.53 and do a series of evangelistic meetings, 00:41:06.56\00:41:09.36 they had a goal of 100,000, baptisms. 00:41:09.40\00:41:11.80 But now, during the pandemic, now they're saying, 00:41:11.83\00:41:15.34 because people are listening to those radio broadcasts, 00:41:15.37\00:41:18.04 now their goal is 200,000 baptisms 00:41:18.07\00:41:21.78 in Papua New Guinea by God's grace, 00:41:21.81\00:41:24.28 as we look to the 2021. 00:41:24.31\00:41:25.91 Just a few examples, Debbie, 00:41:25.95\00:41:27.52 so many more around the world of how God is blessing through 00:41:27.55\00:41:31.05 getting the message out through AWR 00:41:31.09\00:41:32.85 even during the pandemic time. 00:41:32.89\00:41:34.22 Wow, that's really exciting. 00:41:34.26\00:41:36.46 So for our offering lineup this year, 00:41:36.49\00:41:41.26 AWR is on and to do something really interesting, 00:41:41.30\00:41:44.47 reaching into the country of Iraq, 00:41:44.50\00:41:46.67 tell us about that. 00:41:46.70\00:41:48.40 Well, thank you, Debbie. 00:41:48.44\00:41:49.77 Yes, so we have a very unique opportunity 00:41:49.80\00:41:52.17 in partnership 00:41:52.21\00:41:53.54 with the Middle East North Africa union, 00:41:53.58\00:41:54.98 that's MENA, 00:41:55.01\00:41:56.34 of putting radio in northern Iraq. 00:41:56.38\00:41:59.11 Now this is a region called the Sulaymaniyah region 00:41:59.15\00:42:01.52 where the Kurdish people live. 00:42:01.55\00:42:03.92 The Kurds are, of course, they're Muslim, 00:42:03.95\00:42:06.35 but they are an ethnic minority. 00:42:06.39\00:42:07.72 And they've been persecuted for many centuries. 00:42:07.76\00:42:10.89 As a result, 00:42:10.93\00:42:12.26 they are often more open to Christianity. 00:42:12.29\00:42:14.50 And so other churches have actually been able to go 00:42:14.53\00:42:16.60 into this region and start work, 00:42:16.63\00:42:18.03 the Adventist Church has not been able to break in. 00:42:18.07\00:42:20.77 But by God's grace, we see an opportunity here 00:42:20.80\00:42:22.94 to have a radio station, Debbie, 00:42:22.97\00:42:24.87 that can reach millions of people 00:42:24.91\00:42:26.98 in the northern border region of Iraq, even into Iran, 00:42:27.01\00:42:30.68 and places like that. 00:42:30.71\00:42:32.05 There are over 30 million Kurds that live in Iraq, in Iran, 00:42:32.08\00:42:36.22 in Turkey and Syria, across the Middle East. 00:42:36.25\00:42:38.82 And we believe by having this radio station 00:42:38.85\00:42:41.12 and by producing content in Turkish, 00:42:41.16\00:42:43.49 we can actually reach them not only through radio 00:42:43.53\00:42:45.66 but through social media, 00:42:45.69\00:42:47.03 and through other avenues to help them understand 00:42:47.06\00:42:49.73 that there is a God who loves them, 00:42:49.76\00:42:51.37 and that the Bible is true. 00:42:51.40\00:42:53.03 Well, it is certainly true that through technology, 00:42:53.07\00:42:56.71 we can reach the world for Jesus. 00:42:56.74\00:42:58.64 Thank you so much, Kyle. 00:42:58.67\00:43:00.38 And is there anything... 00:43:00.41\00:43:01.74 We have just a few seconds left, 00:43:01.78\00:43:03.11 is there another testimony 00:43:03.14\00:43:04.48 that you might be able to share about the impact of AWR? 00:43:04.51\00:43:06.98 Absolutely. 00:43:07.02\00:43:08.35 So just as another testimony, you know, in China. 00:43:08.38\00:43:11.09 China's a huge area where we need to reach. 00:43:11.12\00:43:14.26 There's a billion people there. 00:43:14.29\00:43:16.29 And radio is difficult to get a license in China. 00:43:16.32\00:43:18.89 But we've been training young people, Debbie, 00:43:18.93\00:43:21.06 young adults who are using their cell phones 00:43:21.10\00:43:24.10 to preach the gospel through their cell phones. 00:43:24.13\00:43:26.74 Literally, we have one young man 00:43:26.77\00:43:28.10 that's been preaching to 30,000 people 00:43:28.14\00:43:30.11 through his cell phone. 00:43:30.14\00:43:31.47 We have a young lady there 00:43:31.51\00:43:32.84 who has been preaching over her cell phone 00:43:32.87\00:43:34.94 and she has 30 people who are ready to be baptized 00:43:34.98\00:43:37.71 as soon as the pandemic gets better 00:43:37.75\00:43:40.68 and things open up. 00:43:40.72\00:43:42.05 It's incredible what God is doing 00:43:42.08\00:43:43.42 through our young adults around the world, 00:43:43.45\00:43:45.02 preaching the gospel through social media. 00:43:45.05\00:43:46.39 Well, thank you. 00:43:46.42\00:43:47.76 I'm glad I hung on for that exciting report. 00:43:47.79\00:43:49.79 Thank you so much, Kyle. And God bless you with AWR. 00:43:49.82\00:43:53.09 God bless you, Debbie. Thank you. 00:43:53.13\00:43:56.46 Thank you, Debbie and Kyle. 00:43:56.50\00:43:58.13 It's incredible AWR is doing, 00:43:58.17\00:44:00.07 that God is just blessing them abundantly. 00:44:00.10\00:44:01.77 It's amazing also the opportunities 00:44:01.80\00:44:03.14 they're having in China. 00:44:03.17\00:44:04.51 Yeah. 00:44:04.54\00:44:05.87 God is just opening doors around the world. 00:44:05.91\00:44:07.91 I believe that we're in the last days. 00:44:07.94\00:44:09.74 Absolutely. 00:44:09.78\00:44:11.11 And this gospel message 00:44:11.15\00:44:12.61 needs to be preached into all the world. 00:44:12.65\00:44:15.12 The last role we have for you today 00:44:15.15\00:44:17.72 is Water for Life. 00:44:17.75\00:44:20.16 Debbie Young had the opportunity 00:44:20.19\00:44:21.69 to sit down with Gary Bartholomew. 00:44:21.72\00:44:23.93 He's vice president and founder of Water for Life. 00:44:23.96\00:44:27.43 And they particularly drill wells, 00:44:27.46\00:44:29.96 specifically in Guatemala. 00:44:30.00\00:44:31.67 And they've drilled over 150 wells so far, 00:44:31.70\00:44:35.67 which is amazing 00:44:35.70\00:44:37.47 to think people who didn't have clean water 00:44:37.51\00:44:39.47 and people who had no access to that, 00:44:39.51\00:44:41.68 now have access to water. 00:44:41.71\00:44:43.58 You know, clean water's everything. 00:44:43.61\00:44:45.05 You know, people die if you don't have clean water, 00:44:45.08\00:44:46.75 so it's amazing. 00:44:46.78\00:44:48.12 Even with COVID going on well, you know what, 00:44:48.15\00:44:51.12 we'll actually let you listen to this roll 00:44:51.15\00:44:52.85 because we don't want to spill everything. 00:44:52.89\00:44:54.26 It's amazing what God is doing even in the midst of COVID. 00:44:54.29\00:44:56.69 Let's go to that roll right now. 00:44:56.73\00:44:58.79 Imagine having to walk miles every day just to find water, 00:45:14.08\00:45:18.61 and not clean water bubbling from a natural spring 00:45:18.65\00:45:20.82 but contaminated water 00:45:20.85\00:45:22.18 and dipped from a muddy cattle pond. 00:45:22.22\00:45:24.52 Not a pretty picture, is it? 00:45:24.55\00:45:26.05 But did you know approximately 12 million people 00:45:26.09\00:45:29.09 in the country of Guatemala alone 00:45:29.12\00:45:31.06 live this way right now? 00:45:31.09\00:45:33.03 They have for years with no hope 00:45:33.06\00:45:34.66 of ever working their way out of it. 00:45:34.70\00:45:37.67 Water for Life is giving that hope 00:45:37.70\00:45:39.50 and bringing it to reality. 00:45:39.53\00:45:41.40 Over the past few years, 00:45:41.44\00:45:42.77 Water for Life has drilled over 150 wells 00:45:42.80\00:45:45.77 in northeast Guatemala. 00:45:45.81\00:45:47.24 And that number is rising quickly. 00:45:47.28\00:45:49.58 Each well brings safe, clean water 00:45:49.61\00:45:52.45 to countless numbers of grateful people. 00:45:52.48\00:45:55.12 Recently, I had the privilege of spending four weeks 00:45:55.15\00:45:57.85 working with Water for Life in Guatemala 00:45:57.89\00:45:59.85 and I can honestly say 00:45:59.89\00:46:01.22 that was one of the richest experiences 00:46:01.26\00:46:03.12 of my life. 00:46:03.16\00:46:04.86 Before going down, 00:46:04.89\00:46:06.23 I had wondered 00:46:06.26\00:46:07.60 what keeps volunteers coming back year after year, 00:46:07.63\00:46:10.47 I can tell you I've experienced it firsthand. 00:46:10.50\00:46:13.90 A volunteer's efforts are more than repaid 00:46:13.94\00:46:16.91 when one of the mothers from a village 00:46:16.94\00:46:18.34 comes up and says, 00:46:18.37\00:46:19.77 "Thank you for the well you drilled for us last year. 00:46:19.81\00:46:22.71 This has been the first year none of our babies have died." 00:46:22.74\00:46:27.12 Where Water for Life provides wells, 00:46:27.15\00:46:28.92 mortality drops. 00:46:28.95\00:46:30.65 Within a few months, 00:46:30.69\00:46:32.02 villagers are noticeably healthier, 00:46:32.05\00:46:33.92 living a vivacious life free from waterborne illness 00:46:33.96\00:46:37.06 and parasites. 00:46:37.09\00:46:39.03 Water for Life is not only giving 00:46:39.06\00:46:40.73 life saving water 00:46:40.76\00:46:42.10 but also a life saving message. 00:46:42.13\00:46:44.77 When we meet people's basic human need, 00:46:44.80\00:46:47.24 we're building a friendship, 00:46:47.27\00:46:48.74 a relationship that becomes a wide open door 00:46:48.77\00:46:51.27 for sharing the message of God and His love. 00:46:51.31\00:46:54.61 These people are not just thirsty 00:46:54.64\00:46:56.14 for clean water, 00:46:56.18\00:46:57.51 because of the relationship, 00:46:57.55\00:46:58.88 they are eager to hear about God and His Word. 00:46:58.91\00:47:02.25 If you would like to volunteer 00:47:02.28\00:47:03.79 or contribute to Water for Life, 00:47:03.82\00:47:05.79 visit www.H2OFORLIFE.org 00:47:05.82\00:47:10.43 where you will also find more information 00:47:10.46\00:47:12.73 about past and current projects in Guatemala. 00:47:12.76\00:47:16.13 Friend, thank you for doing what you can 00:47:16.16\00:47:18.53 to share the gift of Water for Life 00:47:18.57\00:47:21.10 while at the same time sharing the hope 00:47:21.14\00:47:23.44 of the true Water of Life. 00:47:23.47\00:47:26.27 Gary, so good to hear 00:47:36.99\00:47:38.69 that you are still drilling wells in Guatemala. 00:47:38.72\00:47:42.92 That's just exciting. 00:47:42.96\00:47:44.69 You know, the question comes to my mind 00:47:44.73\00:47:49.00 what is happening in Guatemala now 00:47:49.03\00:47:51.63 with the COVID situation?
