Praise the Lord. 00:09:35.77\00:09:37.41 You've seen many things and also seen needs 00:09:37.44\00:09:42.71 and this has inspired you through your ministry as well. 00:09:42.74\00:09:45.91 Well, we have Bill Wells, 00:09:45.95\00:09:49.12 and a little bit about yourself 00:09:49.15\00:09:51.09 and how you got involved with the ministry there? 00:09:51.12\00:09:53.79 Yeah, thank you. 00:09:53.82\00:09:55.16 So I'm California born and bred 00:09:55.19\00:09:57.09 and I've been living in Michigan now 00:09:57.13\00:09:59.33 about eight years 00:09:59.36\00:10:00.70 and three years married and absolutely love my wife. 00:10:00.73\00:10:06.07 Praise the Lord. 00:10:06.10\00:10:07.44 And so, I met her 00:10:07.47\00:10:09.00 while I was studying at Andrews University. 00:10:09.04\00:10:10.84 And so, my journey in getting into ASAP Ministries 00:10:10.87\00:10:17.08 was while I was the student there at Andrews University, 00:10:17.11\00:10:19.81 got a chance to meet Pastor Scott 00:10:19.85\00:10:22.52 on a handful of occasions 00:10:22.55\00:10:24.02 and then become aware of what ASAP is doing. 00:10:24.05\00:10:28.76 Right around 2014-15 00:10:28.79\00:10:31.09 as a Syrian refugee crisis was underway, 00:10:31.13\00:10:34.73 I began to take note about refugees 00:10:34.76\00:10:37.00 and seeing 00:10:37.03\00:10:38.37 there's a huge mission opportunity 00:10:38.40\00:10:40.64 in the world right now. 00:10:40.67\00:10:42.00 What are we doing and I begin to apply my studies 00:10:42.04\00:10:45.21 and my research about refugees 00:10:45.24\00:10:47.91 and engaging with my local church 00:10:47.94\00:10:50.35 taking young people to visit refugee churches 00:10:50.38\00:10:52.55 and doing ministry. 00:10:52.58\00:10:54.32 And lo and behold, 00:10:54.35\00:10:55.95 as I finished my studies at Andrews, 00:10:55.98\00:10:58.55 ASAP Ministries offered me to work 00:10:58.59\00:11:02.39 as refugee ministry coordinator 00:11:02.42\00:11:03.76 continuing what I had already started 00:11:03.79\00:11:06.90 through my own personal efforts and study as a student. 00:11:06.93\00:11:10.50 Praise the Lord. Praise the Lord. 00:11:10.53\00:11:12.47 Well, you know, the first time I heard about ASAP Ministries 00:11:12.50\00:11:17.54 is many, many years ago and when I think of ASAP, 00:11:17.57\00:11:21.74 people use that to say as soon as possible, 00:11:21.78\00:11:25.35 but what do the ASAP letter stand for, 00:11:25.38\00:11:29.42 for the ministry? 00:11:29.45\00:11:30.79 Great question. 00:11:30.82\00:11:32.15 That stands for 00:11:32.19\00:11:33.82 Advocates for Southeast Asians and the Persecuted, 00:11:33.86\00:11:36.62 ASAP, 00:11:36.66\00:11:37.99 Advocates for Southeast Asians and the Persecuted. 00:11:38.03\00:11:40.20 So really within that 00:11:40.23\00:11:42.10 our ministry has a focus really on four areas, 00:11:42.13\00:11:46.17 persecuted people groups. 00:11:46.20\00:11:49.87 Poor, so persecuted poor, refugees, 00:11:49.90\00:11:53.44 and I can't believe it, 00:11:53.48\00:11:57.71 my brain just happened to skip that last fourth one right now, 00:11:57.75\00:12:00.48 Pastor Scott? 00:12:00.52\00:12:02.18 Just it has just always been focused 00:12:02.22\00:12:04.35 on those who are in desperate situations 00:12:04.39\00:12:06.32 birthed out of the refugee crisis 00:12:06.35\00:12:07.99 in Southeast Asia back in the 70s and 80s 00:12:08.02\00:12:10.66 and ongoing till today, 00:12:10.69\00:12:12.59 we've got, you know, 00:12:12.63\00:12:14.00 just we continue to have refugees 00:12:14.03\00:12:16.03 pouring out of Burma. 00:12:16.06\00:12:17.60 And now ASAP has expanded to areas 00:12:17.63\00:12:20.50 that are in the Middle East and top of Africa. 00:12:20.54\00:12:24.71 And so 00:12:24.74\00:12:26.14 wherever there's desperate need, 00:12:26.17\00:12:27.78 ASAP has been raising up local national missionaries, 00:12:27.81\00:12:32.98 who can be trained, better equipped 00:12:33.01\00:12:34.88 and who already know the language and the culture 00:12:34.92\00:12:36.65 we can then reach into an unreached part 00:12:36.69\00:12:39.29 of the world that we're not serving 00:12:39.32\00:12:41.02 as a church yet. 00:12:41.06\00:12:42.39 So that's the supporting ministry 00:12:42.42\00:12:44.49 always done through the missions, 00:12:44.53\00:12:46.26 trying to help get the gospel so that Jesus can come back. 00:12:46.29\00:12:50.93 And now you mentioned training local, 00:12:50.97\00:12:54.34 national missionaries. 00:12:54.37\00:12:56.81 You train them but as well you have people 00:12:56.84\00:13:00.11 that assist for a period of time 00:13:00.14\00:13:02.64 because you went yourself or was it just to train people? 00:13:02.68\00:13:05.51 Yes. 00:13:05.55\00:13:06.88 I mean when you train the best training 00:13:06.92\00:13:09.02 is when you can be alongside so we've done that some, 00:13:09.05\00:13:11.69 but primarily ASAP has been about working 00:13:11.72\00:13:14.52 with those who are already there 00:13:14.56\00:13:15.89 with the structure there 00:13:15.92\00:13:17.26 but then empowering and equipping 00:13:17.29\00:13:18.99 the lay local people to go out and do that. 00:13:19.03\00:13:22.06 Let's get, can we get a little picture 00:13:22.10\00:13:23.83 about ASAP as a ministry? 00:13:23.87\00:13:28.17 Do you hire the local missionary workers? 00:13:28.20\00:13:32.61 Do you hire them? 00:13:32.64\00:13:35.11 So if there's a salary for them, 00:13:35.14\00:13:37.48 and how are they funded? 00:13:37.51\00:13:39.98 Great question. Yes. 00:13:40.02\00:13:41.75 So in working in Southeast Asia, 00:13:41.78\00:13:44.22 with the numerous projects that we work with, 00:13:44.25\00:13:46.35 and elsewhere around the world, 00:13:46.39\00:13:48.19 we engage local, passionate Seventh-day Adventist leaders 00:13:48.22\00:13:53.66 and workers and we engage them, we partner with them, hire them 00:13:53.70\00:13:59.43 and work through the local Adventist 00:13:59.47\00:14:01.94 mission structures present, 00:14:01.97\00:14:04.47 present in the countries to support, 00:14:04.51\00:14:08.08 to fund to enable those mission leaders 00:14:08.11\00:14:12.45 to engage in mission in new ways, 00:14:12.48\00:14:17.69 often breaking ground in new places. 00:14:17.72\00:14:20.69 And so we find that, 00:14:20.72\00:14:22.62 that empowering local believers and local workers 00:14:22.66\00:14:26.93 is much more effective than say Pastor Scott 00:14:26.96\00:14:30.13 or I showing up 00:14:30.17\00:14:31.50 and having to spend three years learning a language 00:14:31.53\00:14:33.77 and trying to learn the culture and settle in 00:14:33.80\00:14:37.81 so, so that's how ASAP is operated. 00:14:37.84\00:14:40.68 Well, praise the Lord. 00:14:40.71\00:14:42.04 Through donations from people giving, supporting, 00:14:42.08\00:14:44.65 then it goes out on to the field 100% 00:14:44.68\00:14:46.92 to whatever people give to is sent there. 00:14:46.95\00:14:50.25 So that's a... 00:14:50.29\00:14:51.62 That's wonderful. 00:14:51.65\00:14:52.99 It's really, I find it to be cost effective. 00:14:53.02\00:14:55.16 You're able to do more with the funding that comes in. 00:14:55.19\00:15:00.16 Now when you have these refugee centers, 00:15:00.20\00:15:04.93 is that what you call them refugee centers? 00:15:04.97\00:15:06.70 Is there a name outside of a door 00:15:06.74\00:15:08.94 in these countries? 00:15:08.97\00:15:10.34 How do the refugees know 00:15:10.37\00:15:13.68 where to go to get the help? 00:15:13.71\00:15:17.35 So we were primarily working with people 00:15:17.38\00:15:20.55 who once were refugees 00:15:20.58\00:15:21.92 who were back in their countries now, 00:15:21.95\00:15:23.28 that's the majority of the national missionaries 00:15:23.32\00:15:25.22 that we're supporting. 00:15:25.25\00:15:26.59 But there are places like right there in Lebanon, 00:15:26.62\00:15:30.03 where they're working with the Syrians 00:15:30.06\00:15:31.89 that there is a little school 00:15:31.93\00:15:33.46 where we can help to fund the teachers, 00:15:33.50\00:15:36.26 fund the students, 00:15:36.30\00:15:37.63 and also in the Karen refugee camps 00:15:37.67\00:15:40.07 along the border between Thailand and Myanmar. 00:15:40.10\00:15:43.41 Same thing there we have many teachers, 00:15:43.44\00:15:46.21 helping and caring for these young people 00:15:46.24\00:15:47.94 who are stuck inside refugee camps 00:15:47.98\00:15:49.81 hoping to have a future 00:15:49.84\00:15:51.35 but now the door is closed to other countries many times, 00:15:51.38\00:15:54.65 but being able to help them and lead them to Christ, right, 00:15:54.68\00:15:57.72 in those situations 00:15:57.75\00:15:59.09 where there's just no other options, 00:15:59.12\00:16:00.92 nothing, nothing to do. 00:16:00.96\00:16:02.46 You just stuck. 00:16:02.49\00:16:03.83 You grew up in that camp where you can't go out, 00:16:03.86\00:16:05.39 you can't come in. 00:16:05.43\00:16:06.76 You don't know what's going to happen, 00:16:06.80\00:16:08.13 but you're hoping. 00:16:08.16\00:16:09.50 And that's where they're being trained 00:16:09.53\00:16:10.87 and taught and led to Christ. 00:16:10.90\00:16:12.43 Praise the Lord. Praise the Lord. 00:16:12.47\00:16:14.37 You both have been involved in different ways. 00:16:14.40\00:16:17.34 Scott, I want to ask you this question. 00:16:17.37\00:16:20.01 You went overseas to work with ASAP? 00:16:20.04\00:16:26.68 Can you tell me something in particular, 00:16:26.72\00:16:29.52 that said to you, 00:16:29.55\00:16:31.75 this is something 00:16:31.79\00:16:33.12 that I want to continue to be involved in, 00:16:33.15\00:16:34.49 because now you're serving as a pastor in Texas. 00:16:34.52\00:16:37.49 And you're still connected to the ministry, 00:16:37.53\00:16:39.29 some, something in particular that said, this is of the Lord, 00:16:39.33\00:16:43.47 I want to continue help Him. 00:16:43.50\00:16:45.40 You know, growing up, 00:16:45.43\00:16:46.77 I had no interest in being a missionary. 00:16:46.80\00:16:48.50 I never went as a student missionary. 00:16:48.54\00:16:50.31 I was committed to working in the inner city, 00:16:50.34\00:16:53.17 California, my plan to be in San Francisco. 00:16:53.21\00:16:56.04 And my wife said, 00:16:56.08\00:16:57.41 "These people out there never had a chance." 00:16:57.45\00:16:59.11 And I said, "No, the church is everywhere 00:16:59.15\00:17:00.62 just look at, you know, the programs 00:17:00.65\00:17:01.98 they show in Sabbath school". 00:17:02.02\00:17:03.52 And she said, Uh-huh, 00:17:03.55\00:17:04.92 and I finally realized and saw and for myself, 00:17:04.95\00:17:08.79 traveled through those places where you just go and go, 00:17:08.82\00:17:12.56 and there is no church 00:17:12.59\00:17:13.93 and you're among different people groups. 00:17:13.96\00:17:15.76 I learned that there are more than 00:17:15.80\00:17:17.17 4,000 totally distinct unreached people groups 00:17:17.20\00:17:20.47 in the world 00:17:20.50\00:17:21.84 that do not have a vibrant, moving, gospel witness. 00:17:21.87\00:17:26.34 And so what else can I do? 00:17:26.37\00:17:28.94 You know, when we finally came back, 00:17:28.98\00:17:30.55 because our children were ready for college 00:17:30.58\00:17:32.58 and our parents were getting elderly, 00:17:32.61\00:17:34.85 it's like, what am I doing here, 00:17:34.88\00:17:36.22 I can now speak Cambodian and Thai, 00:17:36.25\00:17:37.62 I should be over there in the mission field. 00:17:37.65\00:17:40.06 And God showed me there in Houston, 00:17:40.09\00:17:42.82 at a conference, 00:17:42.86\00:17:44.19 and we were surrounded with people 00:17:44.23\00:17:46.03 from almost every country of the world, 00:17:46.06\00:17:48.80 and that they had come here and it was God's intention, 00:17:48.83\00:17:51.93 His strategy so that we could reach them 00:17:51.97\00:17:54.70 and they could reach back into their own countries. 00:17:54.74\00:17:56.97 Praise the Lord. Praise the Lord. 00:17:57.01\00:17:58.34 Now, you mentioned the number 00:17:58.37\00:17:59.71 that perhaps flew by some people, 00:17:59.74\00:18:01.08 tell us that number again, 00:18:01.11\00:18:02.44 how many people groups did you mentioned? 00:18:02.48\00:18:04.15 Well, there's different ways of figuring it. 00:18:04.18\00:18:06.18 But if we consider a distinct culture 00:18:06.21\00:18:09.12 and language and ethnicity 00:18:09.15\00:18:10.79 that is maybe on both sides of two country's borders there, 00:18:10.82\00:18:14.59 but there's people through the mountains 00:18:14.62\00:18:15.96 on both sides, 00:18:15.99\00:18:17.33 but they're distinct and unique. 00:18:17.36\00:18:18.69 We consider there's over 4,000 distinct groups. 00:18:18.73\00:18:22.53 And this is not just small, 00:18:22.56\00:18:23.90 this consists of about a third of the world 00:18:23.93\00:18:26.74 that we are in, 00:18:26.77\00:18:28.10 3.3 billion or something like that. 00:18:28.14\00:18:30.21 Amazing, amazing. 00:18:30.24\00:18:31.84 How about, Bill, 00:18:31.87\00:18:33.21 you studied this thing in school, 00:18:33.24\00:18:34.74 but then there's a difference between looking at books 00:18:34.78\00:18:37.48 and evaluating things and then being out there. 00:18:37.51\00:18:41.48 You have done that. Yeah. 00:18:41.52\00:18:42.98 What in particular impacted you that you said, 00:18:43.02\00:18:45.92 I want to continue doing this, this is of the Lord? 00:18:45.95\00:18:48.46 Yes. 00:18:48.49\00:18:49.82 Seeing, of course, 00:18:49.86\00:18:51.33 the mission potential 00:18:51.36\00:18:54.53 really is what's been the driving factor for me. 00:18:54.56\00:18:57.80 Recognizing that in the first 10 years 00:18:57.83\00:19:02.37 of a person's displacement and resettlement, 00:19:02.40\00:19:05.61 they are the most open to the gospel. 00:19:05.64\00:19:08.08 And so, really as we see what's going on in the world 00:19:08.11\00:19:11.65 as there's displacement, refugees, 00:19:11.68\00:19:15.55 internally displaced persons, asylum seekers, 00:19:15.58\00:19:19.02 as these people movements around the world are happening. 00:19:19.05\00:19:23.46 Really, when they end up in a new place, 00:19:23.49\00:19:25.23 they ask those deep questions 00:19:25.26\00:19:27.66 that they may not have been able to ask 00:19:27.70\00:19:30.37 in their previous context, 00:19:30.40\00:19:31.83 and they're able to explore those. 00:19:31.87\00:19:33.84 And that is the golden opportunity 00:19:33.87\00:19:35.37 that I see 00:19:35.40\00:19:36.74 that we can come alongside as neighbors, as friends, 00:19:36.77\00:19:41.24 as church members 00:19:41.28\00:19:42.61 or we see them 00:19:42.64\00:19:43.98 in their difficult circumstances, 00:19:44.01\00:19:46.18 providing humanitarian support 00:19:46.21\00:19:48.32 in a loving, Christ centered way 00:19:48.35\00:19:51.49 using Christ compassion, compassionate methods. 00:19:51.52\00:19:54.82 And we can come alongside 00:19:54.86\00:19:57.03 and introduce the beauty of a loving Savior, 00:19:57.06\00:20:02.76 who died for them, 00:20:02.80\00:20:04.13 wants them to live in eternity 00:20:04.17\00:20:05.57 and we can share 00:20:05.60\00:20:06.94 that beautiful gospel hope with them 00:20:06.97\00:20:10.01 and give them give them that eternal hope. 00:20:10.04\00:20:12.41 Pastor John, can I share a quote from Evangelism? 00:20:12.44\00:20:14.34 Sure. 00:20:14.38\00:20:15.71 Page 570, we put it in the booklet 00:20:15.74\00:20:17.65 praying for the world next door. 00:20:17.68\00:20:20.05 And it just sums up what Bill is sharing with us 00:20:20.08\00:20:23.28 that just so powerfully, 00:20:23.32\00:20:24.65 it says, "We should be able to see 00:20:24.69\00:20:26.72 in the multiplying opportunities 00:20:26.76\00:20:28.59 to reach many foreigners in America, 00:20:28.62\00:20:31.16 a divinely appointed 00:20:31.19\00:20:32.69 means of rapidly extending the third angels' message 00:20:32.73\00:20:36.06 unto all the nations of earth. 00:20:36.10\00:20:37.73 God in His providence has brought me 00:20:37.77\00:20:39.40 into our very doors 00:20:39.43\00:20:40.77 and thrust them as it were into our arms, 00:20:40.80\00:20:44.37 that they might learn the truth and be qualified to do a work 00:20:44.41\00:20:47.24 we could not do 00:20:47.28\00:20:48.64 in getting the light before men of other tongues." 00:20:48.68\00:20:51.48 Amen. 00:20:51.51\00:20:52.85 If we think of Pentecost, and the praying, 00:20:52.88\00:20:55.45 the earnest praying that we're doing now 00:20:55.48\00:20:56.99 for revival and reformation, 00:20:57.02\00:20:58.65 asking God to finish the work 00:20:58.69\00:21:00.32 as the disciples did that in the upper room 00:21:00.36\00:21:02.62 when the spirit came down. 00:21:02.66\00:21:04.63 It says there were devout men of every nation, 00:21:04.66\00:21:07.50 dwelling in Jerusalem. 00:21:07.53\00:21:08.86 And they said, 00:21:08.90\00:21:10.23 "How is it we hear in our own language?" 00:21:10.27\00:21:11.70 God has done this again, 00:21:11.73\00:21:13.07 in every metro area around the world, 00:21:13.10\00:21:14.74 there are people 00:21:14.77\00:21:16.10 who have come from those 4,000 plus ethnic groups. 00:21:16.14\00:21:19.14 And if we will seek 00:21:19.17\00:21:20.51 for the power of the Holy Spirit, 00:21:20.54\00:21:22.11 then He's going to do, 00:21:22.14\00:21:23.61 He's going to finish the work much more rapidly 00:21:23.65\00:21:25.51 than we think would be possible 00:21:25.55\00:21:27.45 because we have 00:21:27.48\00:21:28.82 this migration situation across the world. 00:21:28.85\00:21:30.92 Yeah. 00:21:30.95\00:21:32.29 To tag on to that, 00:21:32.32\00:21:34.02 you know, there's over in the US alone, 00:21:34.06\00:21:37.06 there's over 380 unreached people groups. 00:21:37.09\00:21:39.59 So these are in the US? 00:21:39.63\00:21:41.03 Yeah. 00:21:41.06\00:21:42.40 Three hundred and eighty, 00:21:42.43\00:21:43.77 so these are, these are like 00:21:43.80\00:21:45.13 Pastor Scott was saying 00:21:45.17\00:21:46.50 individual groups who have unique cultures, 00:21:46.53\00:21:48.64 languages, etc., 00:21:48.67\00:21:50.01 that make them distinctly different than anyone, 00:21:50.04\00:21:52.31 than everyone else around them. 00:21:52.34\00:21:53.78 So that's here in the United States, 380, 00:21:53.81\00:21:57.61 if you include the EU, if you include Canada, 00:21:57.65\00:22:00.52 there's over 450 00:22:00.55\00:22:02.32 and of all of those 450 unreached people groups, 00:22:02.35\00:22:06.12 only about 100 of them are actually being reached. 00:22:06.15\00:22:10.09 So majority are not being reached yet. 00:22:10.13\00:22:13.33 And the history behind that quote 00:22:13.36\00:22:16.63 from Evangelism 570, which was written in 1914. 00:22:16.67\00:22:20.84 It's fascinating 00:22:20.87\00:22:22.20 because the seeds for that began 00:22:22.24\00:22:23.87 in Ellen White's first statements in 1874, 00:22:23.91\00:22:27.08 with the first migration waves 00:22:27.11\00:22:30.15 happening in America from Europe. 00:22:30.18\00:22:32.78 And anyways, and from there, 00:22:32.81\00:22:34.48 we see that in Adventist history, 00:22:34.52\00:22:36.15 mission history, 00:22:36.18\00:22:37.59 the church grew around the world 00:22:37.62\00:22:40.09 because it first started reaching immigrants 00:22:40.12\00:22:42.99 in North America, 00:22:43.02\00:22:44.56 and so there's a beautiful history 00:22:44.59\00:22:47.03 in the Adventist Church 00:22:47.06\00:22:48.56 that connects the present situation 00:22:48.60\00:22:51.57 to what we've seen in the past. 00:22:51.60\00:22:53.07 Praise the Lord. 00:22:53.10\00:22:54.44 I want to say something before you make that comment 00:22:54.47\00:22:56.60 because you have mentioned that, 00:22:56.64\00:22:59.74 something that is at the very core 00:22:59.77\00:23:01.18 of the Seventh-day Adventist Church 00:23:01.21\00:23:02.54 is taking the message to all the world 00:23:02.58\00:23:06.28 and of the denominations in the world, 00:23:06.31\00:23:08.72 Seventh-day Adventist Church is one of the denominations 00:23:08.75\00:23:12.29 that is at the forefront of getting to every nation 00:23:12.32\00:23:15.96 in the heaven, 00:23:15.99\00:23:17.33 and to reach every single language group. 00:23:17.36\00:23:19.76 And I say, praise God. 00:23:19.79\00:23:22.20 What's going on? 00:23:22.23\00:23:23.57 We need to do more. 00:23:23.60\00:23:24.97 I hope you didn't lose your thought. 00:23:25.00\00:23:26.33 Go ahead. No, I didn't. 00:23:26.37\00:23:27.70 Because the excitement is just there strongly. 00:23:27.74\00:23:30.37 I mean, we are talking about people 00:23:30.41\00:23:32.44 coming from countries 00:23:32.47\00:23:33.81 you cannot get into with the gospel, 00:23:33.84\00:23:35.91 many of them. 00:23:35.94\00:23:37.28 My wife had met somebody at the door. 00:23:37.31\00:23:39.11 I'm not going to even mention the country 00:23:39.15\00:23:40.68 so it doesn't fall back 00:23:40.72\00:23:42.62 with the rest of what I want to say. 00:23:42.65\00:23:44.25 But she had been knocking 00:23:44.29\00:23:45.62 praying for a specific unreached people group 00:23:45.65\00:23:47.99 from another country. 00:23:48.02\00:23:49.36 And the last door 00:23:49.39\00:23:50.73 she knocked on that day was a man, 00:23:50.76\00:23:52.29 a young man from that country. 00:23:52.33\00:23:54.26 They made a friendship 00:23:54.30\00:23:55.63 and then in a park they followed up 00:23:55.66\00:23:57.87 with some others joining them 00:23:57.90\00:23:59.77 and they began to study. 00:23:59.80\00:24:01.14 He was from a Muslim background. 00:24:01.17\00:24:02.70 And he had lots to say and lots to argue about. 00:24:02.74\00:24:05.67 But one day, he just stopped 00:24:05.71\00:24:07.04 in the middle of his strong statement. 00:24:07.08\00:24:09.14 He said, you know what, 00:24:09.18\00:24:10.65 I couldn't do this back in my country, 00:24:10.68\00:24:12.41 I might even get killed for it. 00:24:12.45\00:24:14.82 And so beautiful, 00:24:14.85\00:24:16.72 someone from his very nationality 00:24:16.75\00:24:18.69 in another city was here in America, 00:24:18.72\00:24:21.92 come as a refugee and was living. 00:24:21.96\00:24:24.76 It's in one of the cities that's being torn by violence 00:24:24.79\00:24:28.16 right at this very moment. 00:24:28.20\00:24:29.80 And he was reached out to by the Seventh-day Adventists. 00:24:29.83\00:24:33.34 And during an evangelism program 00:24:33.37\00:24:35.50 that was done in the city, 00:24:35.54\00:24:36.94 they were looking for translators. 00:24:36.97\00:24:38.91 And they selected him. 00:24:38.94\00:24:40.68 Yeah, and he didn't have 00:24:40.71\00:24:42.04 any Seventh-day Adventist background, 00:24:42.08\00:24:43.41 but he came and preached night after night 00:24:43.45\00:24:44.95 for the evangelist. 00:24:44.98\00:24:46.31 And at the end, he was baptized. 00:24:46.35\00:24:47.82 Praise God. 00:24:47.85\00:24:49.18 You know, now, he's not there in this American city. 00:24:49.22\00:24:51.65 He's back in his country, 00:24:51.69\00:24:53.02 a country that's been torn by poverty, 00:24:53.05\00:24:55.49 famine and incredible war 00:24:55.52\00:24:57.76 and he is starting schools for children there 00:24:57.79\00:25:01.40 who did not have hope, 00:25:01.43\00:25:02.76 and he's sharing with them, 00:25:02.80\00:25:04.30 who the Prophet Jesus really is, 00:25:04.33\00:25:07.10 and what really happened on the cross. 00:25:07.14\00:25:09.00 Amen. Amen. 00:25:09.04\00:25:10.37 Yeah, this is the potential that we have all around us 00:25:10.41\00:25:12.74 to be missionaries here now. 00:25:12.77\00:25:14.54 That's incredible, 00:25:14.58\00:25:16.08 that's marvelous what God is doing. 00:25:16.11\00:25:18.01 You know, when you look at ASAP ministries, 00:25:18.05\00:25:23.22 you are reaching people that have backgrounds of one, 00:25:23.25\00:25:28.96 they don't even know that there's a God. 00:25:28.99\00:25:31.43 Two, they may have a mis... 00:25:31.46\00:25:35.10 a distorted view of who God is. 00:25:35.13\00:25:37.57 And some are coming from the idea, 00:25:37.60\00:25:39.53 there are many gods, 00:25:39.57\00:25:42.00 the god you serve is just one among many. 00:25:42.04\00:25:43.64 So there are 00:25:43.67\00:25:45.01 all these different types of beliefs 00:25:45.04\00:25:46.51 and to bring them to the knowledge of the truth 00:25:46.54\00:25:50.31 that there is only one true God 00:25:50.35\00:25:52.68 and the message of salvation 00:25:52.71\00:25:54.25 and that we're not just passing through this world. 00:25:54.28\00:25:58.12 This is a great work that has to be done, 00:25:58.15\00:26:01.12 a great work. 00:26:01.16\00:26:02.49 Well, you have some resources that are available. 00:26:02.52\00:26:05.43 And we want you at home to 00:26:05.46\00:26:07.83 or wherever you may be to stay tuned, 00:26:07.86\00:26:09.86 because you're going to hear 00:26:09.90\00:26:11.23 some great and wonderful things 00:26:11.27\00:26:13.74 that ASAP is making available. 00:26:13.77\00:26:17.17 And so how to reach the people next door. 00:26:17.21\00:26:20.51 You know, you may wonder, 00:26:20.54\00:26:22.11 how am I going to get involved in this. 00:26:22.14\00:26:24.51 Well, you can support ASAP Ministries, 00:26:24.55\00:26:27.22 as you've heard. 00:26:27.25\00:26:28.58 They're doing great work with local missionaries. 00:26:28.62\00:26:32.39 You can help support that work, 00:26:32.42\00:26:33.82 but you're going to hear more as we continue. 00:26:33.86\00:26:36.32 And so, let's talk about this new, 00:26:36.36\00:26:41.73 I'm calling it new because it's new to me, 00:26:41.76\00:26:43.83 but it may be newer than we think, 00:26:43.87\00:26:45.60 we talk about Reaching the World Next Door, 00:26:45.63\00:26:50.01 and you have 13 of these. 00:26:50.04\00:26:54.28 Tell us a little, a little bit about the idea 00:26:54.31\00:26:57.18 how it surfaced 00:26:57.21\00:26:59.41 and what you hope to accomplish with it? 00:26:59.45\00:27:03.55 So the Reaching the World Next Door 00:27:03.59\00:27:06.15 is a training that that we've been working on 00:27:06.19\00:27:09.52 and developing for quite a while 00:27:09.56\00:27:12.69 for several months 00:27:12.73\00:27:14.06 and Pastor Scott wrote the first drafts for it 00:27:14.10\00:27:16.53 almost 10 years ago. 00:27:16.56\00:27:17.90 Wow. 00:27:17.93\00:27:19.27 And, and so at present 00:27:19.30\00:27:21.77 through the Adventist learning community 00:27:21.80\00:27:24.47 and the website's just below. 00:27:24.51\00:27:27.88 We can, 00:27:27.91\00:27:29.38 any person who's interested in reaching out to, 00:27:29.41\00:27:33.01 to say their Hindu or Buddhist or Muslim friend 00:27:33.05\00:27:37.09 or their Jewish friend 00:27:37.12\00:27:38.45 that may live next door to them 00:27:38.49\00:27:39.82 or even a Native American, 00:27:39.85\00:27:43.12 you know, someone who lives next to them. 00:27:43.16\00:27:45.19 They want to reach out cross culturally, 00:27:45.23\00:27:47.26 it's a 13-part training 00:27:47.30\00:27:50.90 that helps people to bridge into cross cultural ministry. 00:27:50.93\00:27:56.20 Okay. 00:27:56.24\00:27:57.57 How do I connect with my friend, my neighbor, 00:27:57.61\00:28:00.88 who's from another country? 00:28:00.91\00:28:02.24 How do I share the gospel with them? 00:28:02.28\00:28:05.01 I find that what people 00:28:05.05\00:28:06.98 what's holding people back is their fear. 00:28:07.02\00:28:09.18 You know, I'm going to say something that's so foolish, 00:28:09.22\00:28:12.65 or I'm not going to know how to answer a question 00:28:12.69\00:28:14.79 that it would have been better if I just stayed at home. 00:28:14.82\00:28:17.09 So I'm going to stay home. 00:28:17.13\00:28:18.76 And we have to get past that, 00:28:18.79\00:28:20.13 we have to know if you don't share, 00:28:20.16\00:28:22.20 nobody will, 00:28:22.23\00:28:23.57 because it's more than 60% of Muslims, 00:28:23.60\00:28:26.97 Buddhists, Hindus, Jews in America 00:28:27.00\00:28:29.94 that do not have a Christian friend. 00:28:29.97\00:28:32.91 That's just, that's beyond my comprehension. 00:28:32.94\00:28:34.94 And for international students, it's worse. 00:28:34.98\00:28:36.95 It's more like 75% live here, having spent four years, 00:28:36.98\00:28:41.25 six years in America 00:28:41.28\00:28:42.92 from countries they may be the future leaders, 00:28:42.95\00:28:45.39 but they've been here 00:28:45.42\00:28:46.76 and they've never made an American friend. 00:28:46.79\00:28:48.39 This is something very important 00:28:48.42\00:28:49.99 that you have said. 00:28:50.03\00:28:51.86 You know, there are students like you said 00:28:51.89\00:28:54.03 they come from different countries, 00:28:54.06\00:28:55.93 and are studying here 00:28:55.96\00:28:58.33 and it's a great, a wonderful idea 00:28:58.37\00:29:02.14 to be able to reach them. 00:29:02.17\00:29:03.51 So when they go to their countries, 00:29:03.54\00:29:05.27 they return different, but they have a treasure, 00:29:05.31\00:29:09.74 let's call it that they didn't have before 00:29:09.78\00:29:12.58 that cannot be measured in money. 00:29:12.61\00:29:16.02 And so it's marvelous 00:29:16.05\00:29:18.35 and these are opportunities that we should not let pass by. 00:29:18.39\00:29:22.92 Yeah, I'd like to share a brief story, if I can, 00:29:22.96\00:29:26.46 and so, so I've had a chance to work with individuals 00:29:26.49\00:29:32.13 and international students. 00:29:32.17\00:29:34.07 I can't share where they're from. 00:29:34.10\00:29:36.84 But in talking with them, 00:29:36.87\00:29:38.61 one of them having spent several years 00:29:38.64\00:29:40.91 at our university, talking with him, 00:29:40.94\00:29:43.24 dialoguing with him. 00:29:43.28\00:29:45.48 He came one day and he's like, 00:29:45.51\00:29:48.28 you know, I think I'm a Seventh-day Adventist. 00:29:48.32\00:29:51.65 And I was like, 00:29:51.69\00:29:53.05 you know, please unpack that and he's like, 00:29:53.09\00:29:55.06 I like, believe 00:29:55.09\00:29:56.42 like all the same things you guys believe. 00:29:56.46\00:29:58.33 And he's had such a positive experience 00:29:58.36\00:30:01.96 at our university that, 00:30:02.00\00:30:03.80 that he takes that with him wherever he goes. 00:30:03.83\00:30:05.47 Praise the Lord. 00:30:05.50\00:30:06.84 And so while he hasn't made that step for baptism, 00:30:06.87\00:30:11.67 or joining a church, 00:30:11.71\00:30:13.21 he has a very positive understanding 00:30:13.24\00:30:15.64 and relationship. 00:30:15.68\00:30:17.01 And that may be the... 00:30:17.05\00:30:18.38 That may be the stepping stone 00:30:18.41\00:30:19.75 that someone later will finish sowing the seed 00:30:19.78\00:30:22.72 and cultivating and sowing the seed. 00:30:22.75\00:30:24.35 And it's just a beautiful story. 00:30:24.39\00:30:27.16 When you make yourself available to God 00:30:27.19\00:30:29.32 and that's what the training program. 00:30:29.36\00:30:30.79 We'll get back and tell you more about that in a moment. 00:30:30.83\00:30:32.59 But you took another story that I want to share. 00:30:32.63\00:30:35.40 That's exactly how one person starts 00:30:35.43\00:30:37.83 and another continues. 00:30:37.87\00:30:39.47 And how if we will choose to say, 00:30:39.50\00:30:41.60 God, I'm available today. 00:30:41.64\00:30:44.17 I have my agenda, 00:30:44.21\00:30:45.71 but I'm going to the grocery store 00:30:45.74\00:30:47.14 and I'll be working and various things 00:30:47.18\00:30:49.71 so please, I'm available. 00:30:49.74\00:30:51.85 Sometimes that's hard. 00:30:51.88\00:30:53.21 I was coming back from being overseas. 00:30:53.25\00:30:55.48 I was tired out, I had a two-hour shuttle ride. 00:30:55.52\00:30:58.02 This is when we were living in Michigan. 00:30:58.05\00:31:00.16 From Chicago coming back and I just, 00:31:00.19\00:31:02.66 I didn't want to be bothered, you know, but I'm available. 00:31:02.69\00:31:05.49 And so this young girl gets on the bus 00:31:05.53\00:31:08.10 was walking back. 00:31:08.13\00:31:09.46 And I saw she was look like probably from China. 00:31:09.50\00:31:12.53 And I just smiled, that's all I did. 00:31:12.57\00:31:14.17 And she immediately took that little tiny bit of friendship 00:31:14.20\00:31:16.91 and began to talk to me. 00:31:16.94\00:31:18.94 Did she want to practice English? 00:31:18.97\00:31:20.38 It was pretty good by then but maybe. 00:31:20.41\00:31:23.04 And so we started talking 00:31:23.08\00:31:24.41 and we talked the rest of the trip. 00:31:24.45\00:31:26.55 At the end, I took her contact. 00:31:26.58\00:31:28.98 Her name was Shenchen. 00:31:29.02\00:31:30.39 And my wife called her and we decided to get together. 00:31:30.42\00:31:33.82 We invited her over for a meal. 00:31:33.86\00:31:35.96 And she came, 00:31:35.99\00:31:37.33 45-minute drive to our house 00:31:37.36\00:31:38.93 from the university she was studying at 00:31:38.96\00:31:40.80 in South Bend, I think. 00:31:40.83\00:31:43.60 And she came up there, 00:31:43.63\00:31:46.27 she then invited us to her house 00:31:46.30\00:31:47.84 and fixed a nice, wonderful Chinese meal for us. 00:31:47.87\00:31:50.51 And then next 00:31:50.54\00:31:51.87 there was a memorial-day weekend, 00:31:51.91\00:31:53.24 our youth group was having a picnic. 00:31:53.27\00:31:55.14 She came and joined, 00:31:55.18\00:31:56.75 started coming to church once in a while 00:31:56.78\00:31:59.08 and then one of the students 00:31:59.11\00:32:00.72 started studying the Bible with her. 00:32:00.75\00:32:02.72 We had to move to Houston. 00:32:02.75\00:32:05.05 She ended up getting married, moved out of that situation. 00:32:05.09\00:32:08.16 But we kept in touch. 00:32:08.19\00:32:09.79 And our friend Rachel 00:32:09.82\00:32:11.16 began to study with her over the phone. 00:32:11.19\00:32:13.66 And then finally we connected her 00:32:13.70\00:32:15.06 with a Chinese member in California 00:32:15.10\00:32:16.73 where she studied and was baptized 00:32:16.77\00:32:19.37 just before giving birth to her first child. 00:32:19.40\00:32:22.37 It's God, God led, He has led them here. 00:32:22.40\00:32:26.74 And if we will open ourselves, 00:32:26.78\00:32:28.54 He will lead us to them as well. 00:32:28.58\00:32:30.05 Amen. Amen. 00:32:30.08\00:32:31.51 I want to ask you a question because you're going beyond, 00:32:31.55\00:32:36.79 let's say, "Hey, what's your name? 00:32:36.82\00:32:39.95 My name is John. 00:32:39.99\00:32:41.39 Want to do some Bible studies?" 00:32:41.42\00:32:42.76 You're going beyond that. 00:32:42.79\00:32:44.13 You're meeting needs, and you're doing this overseas. 00:32:44.16\00:32:47.40 Give us a little glimpse of what it is 00:32:47.43\00:32:50.20 that some of these people need help in different ways. 00:32:50.23\00:32:53.17 Because you help them and you impact their lives 00:32:53.20\00:32:55.20 and now they somehow 00:32:55.24\00:32:57.91 that makes a connection with the people 00:32:57.94\00:33:01.34 that they say these people have helped me, 00:33:01.38\00:33:03.65 and they are more open to hearing about the gospel 00:33:03.68\00:33:06.78 after they have been helped. 00:33:06.82\00:33:08.72 Some needs have been met in their lives. 00:33:08.75\00:33:10.79 And so they can testify of what you have done for them 00:33:10.82\00:33:15.16 to other people, 00:33:15.19\00:33:16.52 and I'm sure you have experiences 00:33:16.56\00:33:17.89 that you can share and say, 00:33:17.93\00:33:19.39 hey, these people are good people, 00:33:19.43\00:33:21.00 they will help you. 00:33:21.03\00:33:22.36 So tell us what kind of needs have you seen, 00:33:22.40\00:33:25.93 that you run into, 00:33:25.97\00:33:27.30 that you help people 00:33:27.34\00:33:28.67 with in some of these countries ASAP is involved in 00:33:28.70\00:33:32.27 and it yields fruit for the honor 00:33:32.31\00:33:35.08 and glory of the Lord. 00:33:35.11\00:33:36.44 Yeah, so one project that, 00:33:36.48\00:33:40.28 that I've had the privilege and the blessing 00:33:40.32\00:33:42.12 to oversee and manage the last couple of years. 00:33:42.15\00:33:46.55 It's called a Bangkok Refugee and Poor program. 00:33:46.59\00:33:49.66 And so in Bangkok, Thailand, 00:33:49.69\00:33:52.83 we have coordinator on the field 00:33:52.86\00:33:55.20 working day in and day out with urban refugees. 00:33:55.23\00:33:59.37 And today, you know, 00:33:59.40\00:34:01.10 there's 79.8 million displaced people 00:34:01.14\00:34:05.11 in the world. 00:34:05.14\00:34:06.47 And most of them 00:34:06.51\00:34:08.01 are actually now living in urban centers, 00:34:08.04\00:34:10.31 so they're urban refugees, 00:34:10.35\00:34:11.75 so they don't have the structure 00:34:11.78\00:34:13.11 of a refugee camp, 00:34:13.15\00:34:14.48 as we would typically think about. 00:34:14.52\00:34:16.82 And so, in Bangkok, 00:34:16.85\00:34:18.95 we're working with urban refugees, 00:34:18.99\00:34:21.02 and the need is far greater than any one ministry 00:34:21.06\00:34:26.43 could ever meet. 00:34:26.46\00:34:28.20 But in our little corner of the world of Bangkok, 00:34:28.23\00:34:31.87 we've been able to reach out and minister 00:34:31.90\00:34:34.04 to numerous families, 00:34:34.07\00:34:36.87 some of whom have decided to become 00:34:36.91\00:34:40.38 baptized members of the Adventist Church there, 00:34:40.41\00:34:42.04 some of them 00:34:42.08\00:34:43.51 as they've been helped and supported, 00:34:43.55\00:34:46.15 they resettled to a third country, 00:34:46.18\00:34:48.98 for example, Canada. 00:34:49.02\00:34:50.59 They resettled to another country 00:34:50.62\00:34:51.95 and there then they take that memory with them. 00:34:51.99\00:34:55.92 And just and they know that 00:34:55.96\00:34:58.19 hey, we can connect with Adventists 00:34:58.23\00:35:00.40 and find help and support 00:35:00.43\00:35:02.13 and find a meaningful connection 00:35:02.16\00:35:04.43 in community 00:35:04.47\00:35:05.80 because of what they've experienced 00:35:05.83\00:35:07.17 in Bangkok, not only through our ministry, 00:35:07.20\00:35:08.54 but through the partnering churches 00:35:08.57\00:35:09.90 that we work with and schools. 00:35:09.94\00:35:11.77 Praise the Lord. Praise the Lord. 00:35:11.81\00:35:13.24 Oh, I'm... 00:35:13.27\00:35:14.71 Reaching the people next door. 00:35:14.74\00:35:16.08 Yeah. 00:35:16.11\00:35:17.91 When you get to walk into a refugee camp, 00:35:17.95\00:35:22.22 and you see people living in a little bamboo hut, 00:35:22.25\00:35:25.95 maybe the size of twice this table 00:35:25.99\00:35:28.16 with their three or four children, 00:35:28.19\00:35:30.43 and you hear their stories 00:35:30.46\00:35:32.09 of what they've gone through the war in the past, 00:35:32.13\00:35:35.83 now the camps are ready to close 00:35:35.86\00:35:37.47 and they have to go back to that country. 00:35:37.50\00:35:39.57 The fear, the hopes to go to a different country 00:35:39.60\00:35:42.37 to have safety and education for their children. 00:35:42.40\00:35:45.64 That's one side of the world. 00:35:45.67\00:35:47.54 And I'm so thankful for what ASAP is doing there 00:35:47.58\00:35:49.94 and others are doing. 00:35:49.98\00:35:51.45 When you get to meet them on this side of the world, 00:35:51.48\00:35:53.85 and you see the hope in their eyes, 00:35:53.88\00:35:56.05 the excitement is to have their kids 00:35:56.08\00:35:57.65 starting to live in a place of safety. 00:35:57.69\00:36:00.12 But then you also see the struggle, 00:36:00.16\00:36:02.42 because it's not paradise like they thought 00:36:02.46\00:36:04.49 it was going to be when they got here, 00:36:04.53\00:36:06.29 and they are struggling to have a job 00:36:06.33\00:36:08.96 during this time of the Coronavirus. 00:36:09.00\00:36:11.80 We've had many of our friends 00:36:11.83\00:36:13.74 who have come as refugees to America 00:36:13.77\00:36:16.77 and who have gotten a part time job here 00:36:16.81\00:36:19.17 or two jobs here 00:36:19.21\00:36:20.54 and now suddenly they have nothing. 00:36:20.58\00:36:22.41 So we've been able to continue despite the need for masks 00:36:22.44\00:36:27.88 and sanitation and social distancing, 00:36:27.92\00:36:30.42 we've been able to continue the food bank deliveries, 00:36:30.45\00:36:33.22 just setting things outside the door, 00:36:33.25\00:36:35.22 or having them come through very carefully. 00:36:35.26\00:36:38.03 We've continued to try to find ways 00:36:38.06\00:36:40.36 that they can have jobs, 00:36:40.40\00:36:42.06 the ladies know how to sew, 00:36:42.10\00:36:43.77 some of them have sewing machines already. 00:36:43.80\00:36:45.73 Others have donated, so that we have them available. 00:36:45.77\00:36:48.84 They were making masks, 00:36:48.87\00:36:50.31 now they're making some furniture, 00:36:50.34\00:36:53.04 but they're just, they're in need, 00:36:53.07\00:36:54.81 they have practical needs, 00:36:54.84\00:36:56.18 especially in those first few months. 00:36:56.21\00:36:58.78 And they say, you know, 00:36:58.81\00:37:00.15 a lot of people are worried about integration 00:37:00.18\00:37:02.08 and the difficulties that come with refugees 00:37:02.12\00:37:04.95 and immigration and immigrants. 00:37:04.99\00:37:06.76 But the key, it's not English class. 00:37:06.79\00:37:09.89 It's not some other social service. 00:37:09.92\00:37:11.96 The key they have found through research 00:37:11.99\00:37:14.30 is do they have an American friend 00:37:14.33\00:37:17.60 who is there to help them go through their struggles? 00:37:17.63\00:37:20.27 If they do, they will integrate well, 00:37:20.30\00:37:23.04 they will succeed well, 00:37:23.07\00:37:24.44 they will become solid promoting 00:37:24.47\00:37:26.47 effective citizens of the country. 00:37:26.51\00:37:29.34 So we have enjoyed it. 00:37:29.38\00:37:31.55 I'm busy with a lot of things. 00:37:31.58\00:37:33.35 But I have one family. 00:37:33.38\00:37:35.18 I have other friends and other families too. 00:37:35.22\00:37:36.75 But there's one particular recently arrived refugee family 00:37:36.79\00:37:40.42 that we've been able to get to know, 00:37:40.46\00:37:42.49 to help him through his back pain 00:37:42.52\00:37:44.49 through his difficulties. 00:37:44.53\00:37:46.23 He's out of work. 00:37:46.26\00:37:47.60 He was an Uber driver, 00:37:47.63\00:37:48.96 and now trying to get back on his feet. 00:37:49.00\00:37:51.53 But we've gotten to know them. 00:37:51.57\00:37:52.93 We love their children. 00:37:52.97\00:37:54.30 One day, we invited him out to our property. 00:37:54.34\00:37:56.81 We swam, we played, 00:37:56.84\00:37:58.61 we barbecued and we were together. 00:37:58.64\00:38:00.44 And at the end of the day, the kids are saying, 00:38:00.48\00:38:02.51 "This is our favorite time in the last three years 00:38:02.54\00:38:04.31 that we've been here. 00:38:04.35\00:38:05.68 This is just amazing." 00:38:05.71\00:38:07.68 They feel like they have an American family, 00:38:07.72\00:38:10.42 friends that are there. 00:38:10.45\00:38:11.79 And so that's what I, 00:38:11.82\00:38:13.42 you know, to bring it back for a moment 00:38:13.46\00:38:14.82 to the training the 13-part training, 00:38:14.86\00:38:17.09 Reach the World Next Door. 00:38:17.13\00:38:18.83 It just simply helps you find those unreached people 00:38:18.86\00:38:21.90 to know where the refugees are and what 00:38:21.93\00:38:24.17 local resettlement agencies are doing. 00:38:24.20\00:38:26.10 You don't have to do it all. 00:38:26.13\00:38:27.50 There's a system there. 00:38:27.54\00:38:29.30 But you can either join as a volunteer and be trained, 00:38:29.34\00:38:32.54 or you can find out just how to meet somebody 00:38:32.57\00:38:35.38 and then be that friend, that family 00:38:35.41\00:38:37.48 and the training then walks you through 00:38:37.51\00:38:39.78 how to help them tangibly, 00:38:39.81\00:38:41.98 how to then share your faith in an appropriate way 00:38:42.02\00:38:44.79 at the right time 00:38:44.82\00:38:46.15 in a way that's respectful to them 00:38:46.19\00:38:47.52 and their religion, their background, 00:38:47.56\00:38:49.46 but helps them to understand this new world they're around 00:38:49.49\00:38:52.16 and how people believe 00:38:52.19\00:38:53.53 and the options 00:38:53.56\00:38:54.90 that they've not been able to hear 00:38:54.93\00:38:56.26 all their life. 00:38:56.30\00:38:57.63 Excellent. This is great. 00:38:57.67\00:38:59.00 So, it walks them through carefully. 00:38:59.03\00:39:00.37 And I mentioned, you know, people are afraid, 00:39:00.40\00:39:02.24 afraid to make that mistake or to even start, 00:39:02.27\00:39:05.04 they don't know where to get going. 00:39:05.07\00:39:06.88 But because the training is intended 00:39:06.91\00:39:08.68 for a small group, 00:39:08.71\00:39:10.05 either your family or church group to do together, 00:39:10.08\00:39:13.38 it builds into it that encouragement 00:39:13.42\00:39:15.22 and accountability, 00:39:15.25\00:39:16.58 where you gather together, 00:39:16.62\00:39:17.95 you find out how each other been doing, 00:39:17.99\00:39:19.69 praises, prayer requests, 00:39:19.72\00:39:21.42 and whether or not you did the assignments, 00:39:21.46\00:39:23.56 and then helps them to move forward 00:39:23.59\00:39:25.76 in accomplishing it. 00:39:25.79\00:39:27.26 It's really helping people to get engaged 00:39:27.30\00:39:30.37 with those in need of the gospel. 00:39:30.40\00:39:33.07 We're seeing people pick it up 00:39:33.10\00:39:34.97 and move forward out into their communities. 00:39:35.00\00:39:37.24 Excellent. Excellent. 00:39:37.27\00:39:38.61 So you have seen people using these things already, 00:39:38.64\00:39:42.08 the 13 training lessons, 00:39:42.11\00:39:45.71 and you mentioned something very interesting. 00:39:45.75\00:39:48.68 You said, is it designed for like small groups 00:39:48.72\00:39:54.39 and churches to do? 00:39:54.42\00:39:55.76 So, let's say right now 00:39:55.79\00:39:57.59 you have the eyes and ears of the church members 00:39:57.63\00:40:02.06 that are involved in the different ministries 00:40:02.10\00:40:04.27 of the church, 00:40:04.30\00:40:05.63 what message do you have for them, 00:40:05.67\00:40:07.84 so they can get interested in using these lessons? 00:40:07.87\00:40:12.17 So because the needs are everywhere 00:40:12.21\00:40:15.54 whether you're in the city 00:40:15.58\00:40:16.91 or you living in the countryside 00:40:16.95\00:40:18.28 and you just meet somebody at a gas station 00:40:18.31\00:40:19.81 who's moved out to the suburbs, to the countryside, 00:40:19.85\00:40:22.78 you will find those people 00:40:22.82\00:40:24.72 but we're just not aware of them that much. 00:40:24.75\00:40:27.46 So this helps to engage that so anybody anywhere can do it. 00:40:27.49\00:40:31.26 We have groups doing it online 00:40:31.29\00:40:33.19 because of the present situation. 00:40:33.23\00:40:35.46 We're doing it by Zoom or another way of meeting 00:40:35.50\00:40:38.47 and it's easy to pick up 00:40:38.50\00:40:41.50 and just to begin doing in that way. 00:40:41.54\00:40:44.77 And people are already they're finding ways 00:40:44.81\00:40:47.84 through Facebook contacts that they know of. 00:40:47.88\00:40:50.98 Oh, yeah, that person I went to school with. 00:40:51.01\00:40:53.01 They were from another country and religious background. 00:40:53.05\00:40:55.22 I'm going to get in touch with them. 00:40:55.25\00:40:57.19 And someone else, 00:40:57.22\00:40:58.55 just begin looking around and made a friend 00:40:58.59\00:41:00.52 with a man from Iraq and said, 00:41:00.56\00:41:02.86 "I'm going to befriend him. 00:41:02.89\00:41:04.39 He's handicapped." 00:41:04.43\00:41:05.76 Now, they've helped him get a job, 00:41:05.79\00:41:07.30 helping him through these tough times. 00:41:07.33\00:41:09.16 Those friendships get started when we become intentional. 00:41:09.20\00:41:12.57 Excellent. 00:41:12.60\00:41:13.94 I think for any church, this training kit, 00:41:13.97\00:41:17.47 this training series 00:41:17.51\00:41:19.37 is helpful to expanding the vision 00:41:19.41\00:41:23.95 of the local ministry, 00:41:23.98\00:41:26.41 because we can be involved in personal ministries 00:41:26.45\00:41:29.42 and men's ministry 00:41:29.45\00:41:31.05 and children's ministries and so on. 00:41:31.09\00:41:32.45 And those are all great and excellent. 00:41:32.49\00:41:35.09 Having this training opens up then the avenue, 00:41:35.12\00:41:38.86 now I can take what I'm doing 00:41:38.89\00:41:40.23 and make it cross culturally relevant and relatable, 00:41:40.26\00:41:44.47 and further expanding the number of people 00:41:44.50\00:41:47.67 that we can embrace and include 00:41:47.70\00:41:49.40 in the different ministries of our local churches. 00:41:49.44\00:41:51.61 Excellent. This is great. 00:41:51.64\00:41:53.54 So do, is all the training online 00:41:53.58\00:41:58.15 or do they get some printed material 00:41:58.18\00:42:00.88 or is the option to print from what's online? 00:42:00.92\00:42:03.49 Is that the way it was? 00:42:03.52\00:42:04.95 It's a good, very good question. 00:42:04.99\00:42:06.65 Adventist learning community 00:42:06.69\00:42:08.02 is the North American divisions place 00:42:08.06\00:42:10.59 for continued education for pastors, 00:42:10.63\00:42:13.33 for teachers, for anybody who wants to learn 00:42:13.36\00:42:15.63 more about ministry 00:42:15.66\00:42:17.20 or how to reach out and other topics as well. 00:42:17.23\00:42:20.54 And so they're the ones that are hosting it, 00:42:20.57\00:42:22.57 it's step forward, slash, 00:42:22.60\00:42:24.04 AdventistLearning Community.com/rwnd. 00:42:24.07\00:42:29.81 And at that place the videos are there 00:42:29.84\00:42:33.01 because there's video clips from people 00:42:33.05\00:42:35.08 who are heavily involved in refugee ministry 00:42:35.12\00:42:38.09 like Terry Sally, 00:42:38.12\00:42:39.65 and others who as pastors and as conference leaders, 00:42:39.69\00:42:43.96 like Dan Serns from Texas Conference 00:42:43.99\00:42:48.46 and Dean Cordon from Iowa Missouri Conference. 00:42:48.50\00:42:51.47 They're sharing what their experiences 00:42:51.50\00:42:54.04 and so it's a combination of that, 00:42:54.07\00:42:56.97 and then their principal materials 00:42:57.01\00:42:58.57 that they can just print out, use 00:42:58.61\00:43:01.48 and one of them is praying for the world next door 00:43:01.51\00:43:04.05 to get people really praying. 00:43:04.08\00:43:05.81 Another one is my favorite missionary, 00:43:05.85\00:43:08.18 which looks at Jesus. 00:43:08.22\00:43:09.55 Yes. 00:43:09.58\00:43:10.92 You know, the missionary to the Jews people, 00:43:10.95\00:43:13.66 but he couldn't help reach out to the Canaanite, 00:43:13.69\00:43:16.56 and the Samaritan, and the Roman. 00:43:16.59\00:43:18.73 And so it walks you through seeing the love of Jesus 00:43:18.76\00:43:21.96 who even at the cross is asking God forgiveness 00:43:22.00\00:43:25.03 for the oppressor. 00:43:25.07\00:43:27.07 For the foreigner 00:43:27.10\00:43:28.44 who shouldn't have been in their country, 00:43:28.47\00:43:29.80 the Roman centurion. 00:43:29.84\00:43:31.87 So this is Jesus call to us and you can access it there. 00:43:31.91\00:43:37.38 Excellent, excellent. 00:43:37.41\00:43:38.75 So the information is available 00:43:38.78\00:43:41.05 and you instruct people how to get it. 00:43:41.08\00:43:44.79 But you mentioned there are also things to read, 00:43:44.82\00:43:47.62 but also things to see in here. 00:43:47.66\00:43:49.39 There are videos available, so that people can see like, 00:43:49.42\00:43:54.90 like it's true still, 00:43:54.93\00:43:56.26 the picture paints a thousand words, 00:43:56.30\00:43:58.03 how about moving pictures, and the video. 00:43:58.07\00:44:00.04 So this is a great resource to have. 00:44:00.07\00:44:02.64 I see that you also have another website 00:44:02.67\00:44:07.64 that is MyLanguageMyLife.com. 00:44:07.68\00:44:12.31 Tell us something about this website 00:44:12.35\00:44:15.05 and what is available there? 00:44:15.08\00:44:17.85 I remember when I was trying to figure out 00:44:17.89\00:44:20.36 how God was leading and coming back to the States 00:44:20.39\00:44:22.62 that we were at a GYC Conference 00:44:22.66\00:44:25.16 in Houston, Texas, 00:44:25.19\00:44:26.53 and we went out with the young people 00:44:26.56\00:44:27.90 in the buses. 00:44:27.93\00:44:29.26 And I heard one come back and say, the lady said, 00:44:29.30\00:44:31.93 "No English, Vietnamese, 00:44:31.97\00:44:33.94 and I didn't know what to give her." 00:44:33.97\00:44:36.04 And it hit me, 00:44:36.07\00:44:37.41 we have resources around the world. 00:44:37.44\00:44:39.87 Our church has so much beautiful literature, 00:44:39.91\00:44:42.74 but it's not available. 00:44:42.78\00:44:44.18 It's over there somewhere in a mission office. 00:44:44.21\00:44:46.51 I don't know how to order it. I don't know how to get it. 00:44:46.55\00:44:49.15 And now we have all these people. 00:44:49.18\00:44:51.32 And even if you do speak English, 00:44:51.35\00:44:53.15 your heart language you want to hear, 00:44:53.19\00:44:55.46 you need to hear the gospel there. 00:44:55.49\00:44:57.86 So we begin to work with volunteers, 00:44:57.89\00:44:59.89 with ASAP Ministries to put together a site, 00:44:59.93\00:45:02.46 MyLanguageMyLife.com 00:45:02.50\00:45:04.60 that has now over 150 languages 00:45:04.63\00:45:07.70 of Seventh-Day Adventist material. 00:45:07.74\00:45:09.60 Marvelous, 150 languages? 00:45:09.64\00:45:11.67 It's great. 00:45:11.71\00:45:13.04 So when you meet somebody and let's take Vietnamese again 00:45:13.07\00:45:15.64 because there's so many of them in the United States, 00:45:15.68\00:45:18.38 you can either hand him a card that you can get from ASAP 00:45:18.41\00:45:21.52 that has the website 00:45:21.55\00:45:22.92 or you can pull out your phone or their phone and say, 00:45:22.95\00:45:26.05 can I show you something that's got things 00:45:26.09\00:45:28.06 in your language 00:45:28.09\00:45:29.42 and scroll down and click on Adventist World Radio 00:45:29.46\00:45:32.53 or 3ABN Latino or whatever else is there 00:45:32.56\00:45:37.10 so many great resources that you can share with them. 00:45:37.13\00:45:41.40 Marvelous, marvelous. 00:45:41.44\00:45:44.61 You know, we receive calls, emails and letters. 00:45:44.64\00:45:47.31 Do you have any information in Spanish? 00:45:47.34\00:45:49.14 Because since I work with the Spanish ministry 00:45:49.18\00:45:52.05 here at 3ABN, 00:45:52.08\00:45:53.48 they're asking for where do I get this? 00:45:53.52\00:45:54.95 Where do I get that? 00:45:54.98\00:45:56.32 Now this is a marvelous resource 00:45:56.35\00:45:58.35 that people can just in seconds, 00:45:58.39\00:46:00.82 go right there and they have, 00:46:00.86\00:46:03.02 they can select the language 00:46:03.06\00:46:04.99 that they want to get the material. 00:46:05.03\00:46:06.90 And this is... 00:46:06.93\00:46:08.26 This brings me to a question people often bring up 00:46:08.30\00:46:11.43 which is like, "Well, everybody matters," right? 00:46:11.47\00:46:13.77 I mean, you know, 00:46:13.80\00:46:15.14 lots of our own people here who've grown up 00:46:15.17\00:46:17.24 and were born in United States, they need the gospel. 00:46:17.27\00:46:20.14 And that's where we can affirm that and say, 00:46:20.18\00:46:22.11 of course, everyone matters to Jesus. 00:46:22.14\00:46:24.71 We're simply asking, 00:46:24.75\00:46:26.38 who's had a chance to hear and who hasn't. 00:46:26.41\00:46:29.68 So, black, white, Hispanic, 00:46:29.72\00:46:33.72 we have that background for the majority of us 00:46:33.76\00:46:35.96 we can access like church, a radio station, 00:46:35.99\00:46:38.79 television program, a Bible, that's in our language in our, 00:46:38.83\00:46:43.06 from our background, you know, it's around, 00:46:43.10\00:46:46.00 but many of these people do not, 00:46:46.03\00:46:47.90 they've never had that opportunity. 00:46:47.94\00:46:50.47 And so that's where, that's where we're appealing, 00:46:50.51\00:46:53.11 especially in Houston, 00:46:53.14\00:46:54.48 I love going to speak 00:46:54.51\00:46:56.24 at the Spanish speaking churches. 00:46:56.28\00:46:58.08 They've got that fire, 00:46:58.11\00:46:59.45 they've got their outreach going on, 00:46:59.48\00:47:00.82 the yearly evangelism programs. 00:47:00.85\00:47:02.95 And whenever we speak about 00:47:02.98\00:47:04.72 reaching out to immigrants and refugees, 00:47:04.75\00:47:07.19 they immediately get it. 00:47:07.22\00:47:08.56 Many of them have transitioned here 00:47:08.59\00:47:10.69 from another country, 00:47:10.73\00:47:12.06 they understand the difficulty, 00:47:12.09\00:47:13.93 the challenges 00:47:13.96\00:47:15.30 that these refugees from unreached countries 00:47:15.33\00:47:17.47 have gone through. 00:47:17.50\00:47:18.83 And so they are picking up this task and saying, 00:47:18.87\00:47:21.90 we want to reach out cross culturally, 00:47:21.94\00:47:24.54 that's been exciting. 00:47:24.57\00:47:25.91 In fact, 00:47:25.94\00:47:27.28 we are working on a translation into Spanish 00:47:27.31\00:47:29.68 of the Reach the World Next Door training. 00:47:29.71\00:47:31.81 Because there are so many you're saying, 00:47:31.85\00:47:33.35 we want to be trained. 00:47:33.38\00:47:34.78 We want to know how to reach out, 00:47:34.82\00:47:36.15 but we don't feel adequate. 00:47:36.18\00:47:37.52 We want to learn how. Yeah. 00:47:37.55\00:47:39.22 The key, a key Bible text that I've just, 00:47:39.25\00:47:41.56 I've spent a lot of time thinking about 00:47:41.59\00:47:43.66 reading is Acts 17:26 and 27. 00:47:43.69\00:47:47.26 And that really undergirds all of this 00:47:47.30\00:47:50.87 that we're talking about, Acts 17:26 and 27. 00:47:50.90\00:47:54.70 And Paul, of course, he's there in Athens. 00:47:54.74\00:47:57.27 He's speaking at Mars Hill to the wise men there. 00:47:57.31\00:48:03.75 They're surrounded by all the different gods 00:48:03.78\00:48:05.95 on Mars Hill. 00:48:05.98\00:48:07.32 And I love what Paul says here. 00:48:07.35\00:48:08.68 He says, "For one man, 00:48:08.72\00:48:10.79 he created all the nations throughout the whole earth." 00:48:10.82\00:48:14.09 And that just communicates to us like, 00:48:14.12\00:48:17.09 no matter who we are, 00:48:17.13\00:48:18.69 God's created every single human being 00:48:18.73\00:48:21.76 around the world. 00:48:21.80\00:48:23.13 And so we're all of His creation. 00:48:23.16\00:48:26.94 He decided beforehand when they should rise and fall 00:48:26.97\00:48:29.94 and He determined their boundaries. 00:48:29.97\00:48:31.44 God knows where we're going to live, 00:48:31.47\00:48:34.74 wherever board, 00:48:34.78\00:48:36.11 wherever we're going to move to, 00:48:36.14\00:48:37.48 how life events transition and move us through life. 00:48:37.51\00:48:41.18 He understands those boundaries. 00:48:41.22\00:48:43.28 And I love verse 27, as Paul mentions, 00:48:43.32\00:48:46.82 "His purpose was for the nations 00:48:46.86\00:48:49.96 to seek after God, 00:48:49.99\00:48:52.06 and perhaps feel their way toward Him and find Him." 00:48:52.09\00:48:55.56 And so in the midst of what we see going on 00:48:55.60\00:48:58.40 and refugees being displaced in, 00:48:58.43\00:49:01.94 in migration and so on. 00:49:01.97\00:49:04.64 Well, we see what I see God doing 00:49:04.67\00:49:06.57 is that well, God's not causing the wars, 00:49:06.61\00:49:09.28 and the famines, and the persecution, 00:49:09.31\00:49:11.51 but in the people movements, 00:49:11.55\00:49:13.88 He's leading nations to a place 00:49:13.92\00:49:16.79 where like Paul is saying they can seek after God. 00:49:16.82\00:49:21.76 And are we there to meet them in their search for God? 00:49:21.79\00:49:25.56 Yes, that's impacting. 00:49:25.59\00:49:30.30 You know why we were talking here, 00:49:30.33\00:49:31.83 I went to MyLanguageMyLife.com web page, 00:49:31.87\00:49:35.30 and it's marvelous, 00:49:35.34\00:49:37.74 I encourage you to take a look at this page 00:49:37.77\00:49:39.94 and also the 00:49:39.97\00:49:42.48 AdventistLearning Community.com/rwnd, 00:49:42.51\00:49:48.58 both of these places, take time, look at it over. 00:49:48.62\00:49:52.79 I just went to MyLanguageMyLife.com. 00:49:52.82\00:49:55.29 I clicked on English and you can listen. 00:49:55.32\00:49:59.29 There's a subheading, listen. 00:49:59.33\00:50:03.43 And then the Bible in many languages, 00:50:03.47\00:50:06.67 radio, television, then it says watch. 00:50:06.70\00:50:11.17 And it has many resources for watching, 00:50:11.21\00:50:13.88 explore many resources 00:50:13.91\00:50:16.34 to explore small group materials. 00:50:16.38\00:50:18.51 Excellent. 00:50:18.55\00:50:19.88 And then there's a section especially for kids 00:50:19.91\00:50:22.12 here that I see. 00:50:22.15\00:50:23.49 And then it says books and magazines, 00:50:23.52\00:50:25.89 health connect, related information. 00:50:25.92\00:50:29.09 And this is a marvelous resource. 00:50:29.12\00:50:31.26 I praise the Lord that it's available 00:50:31.29\00:50:33.26 in so many languages. 00:50:33.29\00:50:35.10 And so I encourage you to take a look at this, 00:50:35.13\00:50:37.70 you are going to need this resource. 00:50:37.73\00:50:41.74 You've heard it today, you may need it today 00:50:41.77\00:50:43.81 or you may need it tomorrow. 00:50:43.84\00:50:45.17 But take a look at this web page 00:50:45.21\00:50:47.01 because you will be blessed to see it. 00:50:47.04\00:50:50.11 You can explore yourself and be blessed, 00:50:50.15\00:50:52.71 your personal spiritual life will be enriched. 00:50:52.75\00:50:55.18 Yes. 00:50:55.22\00:50:56.55 When I came back 00:50:56.58\00:50:57.92 from my first two years in Cambodia, 00:50:57.95\00:51:00.02 and I walked into a Christian bookstore 00:51:00.06\00:51:02.26 in Central California, 00:51:02.29\00:51:04.39 I began to just weep. 00:51:04.43\00:51:05.76 And I couldn't figure out 00:51:05.79\00:51:07.13 what was going on until it hit me. 00:51:07.16\00:51:08.83 We had all these hundreds, thousands of resources 00:51:08.86\00:51:11.90 in English. 00:51:11.93\00:51:13.27 And we had no Bible studies, or anything in Cambodia. 00:51:13.30\00:51:17.67 And I just said, Lord, please, we need these 00:51:17.71\00:51:21.48 before the people we need to be writing, 00:51:21.51\00:51:23.31 we need to be creating. 00:51:23.35\00:51:25.38 God is calling us to consider 00:51:25.41\00:51:28.38 those who've never had a chance. 00:51:28.42\00:51:29.98 It's like we've been feeding the first 500 of the 5,000. 00:51:30.02\00:51:33.66 And we keep giving the seconds and thirds and fourths 00:51:33.69\00:51:36.26 while the other people are still hungry. 00:51:36.29\00:51:37.63 Thank you so much. 00:51:37.66\00:51:38.99 Well, we are going to give you contact information. 00:51:39.03\00:51:42.10 And you're going to hear news from 3ABN 00:51:42.13\00:51:44.33 and we will be back in a moment 00:51:44.37\00:51:46.47 for final comments from Scott and Bill. 00:51:46.50\00:51:49.04 We'll see you in a moment. 00:51:49.07\00:51:51.34 For more information about ASAP Ministries 00:51:51.37\00:51:53.81 and Reach the World Next Door, 00:51:53.84\00:51:56.01 please contact them at 269-471-3026. 00:51:56.04\00:52:01.72 That's 269-471-3026. 00:52:01.75\00:52:06.69 Their website is ASAPMinistries.org. 00:52:06.72\00:52:09.76 That's ASAPMinistries.org. 00:52:09.79\00:52:13.76 You may also write to them at 105 South Cass Street, 00:52:13.80\00:52:17.87 Berrien Springs, Michigan 49103. 00:52:17.90\00:52:22.27 That's 105 South Cass Street, 00:52:22.30\00:52:25.07 Berrien Springs, Michigan 49103. 00:52:25.11\00:52:29.31
