Which so many people do. 00:10:20.28\00:10:21.72 Yes. 00:10:21.75\00:10:23.08 And just other things, I wasn't doing Bible study, 00:10:23.12\00:10:26.29 I wasn't resting, you know, 00:10:26.32\00:10:28.32 sleeping those hours before midnight 00:10:28.36\00:10:30.19 are twice as valuable as those after, 00:10:30.23\00:10:32.33 so just some of those habits 00:10:32.36\00:10:34.46 that I had just fallen into 00:10:34.50\00:10:35.90 and just let what I knew go dormant. 00:10:35.93\00:10:39.63 And so I praise God, I decided you know what? 00:10:39.67\00:10:42.07 I'm gonna start each day 00:10:42.10\00:10:43.44 with the Sabbath School quarterly, 00:10:43.47\00:10:44.81 which I love joining in on the 3ABN Sabbath School, 00:10:44.84\00:10:48.01 you guys, do a great job. 00:10:48.04\00:10:49.61 And I, you know, 00:10:49.64\00:10:51.38 start each day with that discipline, 00:10:51.41\00:10:53.78 and all of any mind 00:10:53.82\00:10:55.32 altering substances of any kind, 00:10:55.35\00:10:57.25 even if it's legal, right? 00:10:57.29\00:10:59.59 And just commit my way to the Lord. 00:10:59.62\00:11:03.19 And I just, I praise Him because He has... 00:11:03.22\00:11:06.86 I just left all of that behind 00:11:06.90\00:11:09.86 and even during this dark time of COVID, 00:11:09.90\00:11:12.77 I feel like the joy of the Lord has been my strength. 00:11:12.80\00:11:15.17 That' right. 00:11:15.20\00:11:16.54 No pun intended. 00:11:16.57\00:11:17.91 Her name is Joy. 00:11:17.94\00:11:19.41 I like that. That's true. Yes, beautiful. 00:11:19.44\00:11:20.88 That's just a very good pun, but so in your learning, 00:11:20.91\00:11:26.05 it was about a seven-year journey 00:11:26.08\00:11:28.08 or talk about that? 00:11:28.12\00:11:29.58 Right. 00:11:29.62\00:11:30.95 So during those years 00:11:30.99\00:11:32.62 I didn't know the Adventist teachings, 00:11:32.65\00:11:35.92 but from what I had been taught a lot of it 00:11:35.96\00:11:37.69 seemed a bit odd, 00:11:37.73\00:11:39.53 but then when I would really investigate, 00:11:39.56\00:11:41.26 and really pray, and really listen, 00:11:41.30\00:11:42.90 and I had people friendship evangelizing me, 00:11:42.93\00:11:45.50 including my best friend 00:11:45.53\00:11:46.87 and the only other full-time co-worker 00:11:46.90\00:11:49.14 with FARM STEW, her name is Cherri Olin. 00:11:49.17\00:11:51.64 And she and her family, 00:11:51.67\00:11:53.68 their friendship evangelized me, 00:11:53.71\00:11:55.31 and they took time, they were patient. 00:11:55.34\00:11:58.18 I was a tough nut to crack. 00:11:58.21\00:12:00.98 And so, I just am so thankful for the patience 00:12:01.02\00:12:03.62 and the prayers. 00:12:03.65\00:12:05.05 And just that I actually came to the church 00:12:05.09\00:12:08.52 where I fully got baptized 00:12:08.56\00:12:09.89 was after being in Uganda and meeting people there. 00:12:09.92\00:12:13.90 Excuse me, what was the breaking point 00:12:13.93\00:12:15.76 where you said, 00:12:15.80\00:12:17.13 "I am coming into this message." 00:12:17.17\00:12:19.07 What was that? This is the truth, you know. 00:12:19.10\00:12:21.60 Honestly, it was our members 00:12:21.64\00:12:23.71 in the East-Central Africa Division. 00:12:23.74\00:12:25.84 I wanna give a shout out to the ECD and Pastor Ruguri, 00:12:25.87\00:12:30.01 but I was there with USA ID funded project 00:12:30.05\00:12:34.48 as a public health nutritionist. 00:12:34.52\00:12:35.98 That's my training. 00:12:36.02\00:12:37.52 And when I met the members there, 00:12:37.55\00:12:41.39 I felt at home, 00:12:41.42\00:12:42.86 I knew I had a spiritual family 00:12:42.89\00:12:44.69 and I love my biological family. 00:12:44.73\00:12:47.33 I'm a mother with two teenage girls 00:12:47.36\00:12:49.26 married 21 years, 00:12:49.30\00:12:51.10 and I love my family, 00:12:51.13\00:12:53.60 but when I realized I had this global family 00:12:53.64\00:12:55.87 around the world, 00:12:55.90\00:12:57.44 including the African divisions 00:12:57.47\00:13:00.04 which are growing so quickly 00:13:00.08\00:13:02.71 that they don't always have what they need to benefit 00:13:02.74\00:13:05.48 from our health message. 00:13:05.51\00:13:06.85 And that's where FARM STEW was born 00:13:06.88\00:13:08.28 was saying we want the things 00:13:08.32\00:13:10.42 that are blessing North American Adventists 00:13:10.45\00:13:13.66 to be able to bless the world 00:13:13.69\00:13:15.02 whether you're rich, poor, black, white, purple, 00:13:15.06\00:13:17.59 God, Jesus says He wants us to live abundantly. 00:13:17.63\00:13:20.93 John 10:10, "Abundant life for all." 00:13:20.96\00:13:22.86 Amen. That's right. 00:13:22.90\00:13:24.23 And you have a picture showing that then and now. 00:13:24.27\00:13:26.33 Yeah, so this is me training in Uganda. 00:13:26.37\00:13:30.14 And it's been such a blessing 00:13:30.17\00:13:32.04 to work alongside the trainers. 00:13:32.07\00:13:33.44 So I myself, I'm not the one 00:13:33.48\00:13:34.98 that's carrying on the training. 00:13:35.01\00:13:36.95 It's a trainer of trainer programs. 00:13:36.98\00:13:38.91 So we have 30 full-time staff 00:13:38.95\00:13:41.15 who have trained over "90,000 participant training days, " 00:13:41.18\00:13:45.62 so I say that carefully some people 00:13:45.65\00:13:47.89 and what we want is for people 00:13:47.92\00:13:49.66 to come to many FARM STEW classes 00:13:49.69\00:13:51.59 and really learn all the skills 00:13:51.63\00:13:53.40 to transform their lives, 00:13:53.43\00:13:54.76 but 90,000 people have spent a day with FARM STEW hands on 00:13:54.80\00:13:58.93 practical learning the skills that will help them thrive 00:13:58.97\00:14:02.64 even now during this COVID environment. 00:14:02.67\00:14:04.84 Wow. 00:14:04.87\00:14:06.21 Beautiful. 00:14:06.24\00:14:07.58 All right now what inspires you? 00:14:07.61\00:14:10.78 Oh, goodness. 00:14:10.81\00:14:12.15 Well, God, first of all, and the Holy Spirit. 00:14:12.18\00:14:14.78 I mean, He is my best friend. 00:14:14.82\00:14:17.22 He is my father. He takes care of me. 00:14:17.25\00:14:19.12 He helps me remember things I forget. 00:14:19.15\00:14:22.09 So it's God who inspires me 00:14:22.12\00:14:24.43 and seeing Him work through His people, 00:14:24.46\00:14:26.46 seeing Him transform the lives of people. 00:14:26.49\00:14:29.46 For example, we were invited 00:14:29.50\00:14:31.47 by the president of the Church of South Sudan, 00:14:31.50\00:14:34.80 into the refugee camps 00:14:34.84\00:14:36.17 where 1 million South Sudanese refugees 00:14:36.20\00:14:39.57 are living in Northern Uganda, 00:14:39.61\00:14:41.08 including tens of thousands 00:14:41.11\00:14:42.84 of Seventh-day Adventist believers 00:14:42.88\00:14:44.65 in these camps. 00:14:44.68\00:14:46.61 I was there for a camp meeting and the President, 00:14:46.65\00:14:48.98 Pastor Clement invited us to train the people there, 00:14:49.02\00:14:53.12 the camp meeting. 00:14:53.15\00:14:54.49 And I have seen their lives transform. 00:14:54.52\00:14:56.99 And I remember now and it just, 00:14:57.03\00:14:58.69 it's one of those wonderful memories. 00:14:58.73\00:15:01.26 I said, "Do you want your livelihood, 00:15:01.30\00:15:05.13 the survival of your children 00:15:05.17\00:15:07.34 to be dependent on the United Nations?" 00:15:07.37\00:15:10.71 Because they get their rations, 00:15:10.74\00:15:12.07 you know, from the United Nations. 00:15:12.11\00:15:13.98 And, you know, there's three agencies 00:15:14.01\00:15:16.21 that decide whether a refugee is gonna live or die, 00:15:16.24\00:15:19.15 whether they're gonna eat or starve. 00:15:19.18\00:15:20.65 Really? They're all based in one city. 00:15:20.68\00:15:24.49 Wow. 00:15:24.52\00:15:25.85 What city could you imagine that would be the least? 00:15:25.89\00:15:28.86 In America? 00:15:28.89\00:15:30.23 Nope. It's a global city. 00:15:30.26\00:15:32.59 And there's three agencies based there, 00:15:32.63\00:15:34.53 the Food and Agricultural Administration, 00:15:34.56\00:15:37.03 the UN... 00:15:37.07\00:15:39.50 Oh, my goodness, I can't say all three agencies, 00:15:39.53\00:15:41.70 but they're based in one city, which is Rome. 00:15:41.74\00:15:44.37 Unbelievable. 00:15:44.41\00:15:45.74 Rome decides 00:15:45.77\00:15:47.11 whether hundreds of millions of refugees live or die. 00:15:47.14\00:15:50.21 And on April 1 of this year, when COVID began, 00:15:50.25\00:15:53.52 they decided 00:15:53.55\00:15:54.88 the refugee rations are gonna be 00:15:54.92\00:15:56.25 one third less 00:15:56.28\00:15:58.85 just because of COVID 00:15:58.89\00:16:00.29 so they all receive one day less food. 00:16:00.32\00:16:03.26 I was going to say Rome 00:16:03.29\00:16:04.63 because that's where my mind is right now. 00:16:04.66\00:16:06.29 Exactly, I know you would know. 00:16:06.33\00:16:08.36 I've asked that question, guess what city? 00:16:08.40\00:16:11.07 I talked about there are two places on earth 00:16:11.10\00:16:12.97 that are cities within a country 00:16:13.00\00:16:14.64 that are not governed 00:16:14.67\00:16:16.00 by the country's political system? 00:16:16.04\00:16:18.41 Wow, that's interesting, but very telling, 00:16:18.44\00:16:20.44 but I'll let you continue. 00:16:20.48\00:16:21.81 We control it. So, yeah. 00:16:21.84\00:16:23.31 So I'm just blessed because our trainers, 00:16:23.35\00:16:25.38 we have 30 full-time staff, 10 in the refugee camps, 00:16:25.41\00:16:28.58 10 up in South Sudan as well, 00:16:28.62\00:16:31.22 that are training people how to live abundantly. 00:16:31.25\00:16:33.12 And I think we're gonna roll a clip 00:16:33.15\00:16:34.76 from a couple of people that have seen this firsthand. 00:16:34.79\00:16:38.66 This will be Tamara Schoch. She is a volunteer with us. 00:16:38.69\00:16:42.16 And then the next would be Edward Kawesa 00:16:42.20\00:16:44.40 who is our Country Director in Uganda. 00:16:44.43\00:16:46.53 Okay, let's look at that. Let's see it. 00:16:46.57\00:16:49.17 In the refugee camp, 00:16:49.20\00:16:50.71 we could see 00:16:50.74\00:16:52.37 where the FARM STEW trainers had been. 00:16:52.41\00:16:54.48 We would see these tippy tap stations 00:16:54.51\00:16:56.64 just over and over again 00:16:56.68\00:16:58.01 and if you're right next to these latrines or toilets, 00:16:58.05\00:17:02.25 which had just been freshly built. 00:17:02.28\00:17:03.65 So people are immediately taking 00:17:03.69\00:17:05.35 into practice the sanitation aspect. 00:17:05.39\00:17:07.49 We would see in those same places, 00:17:07.52\00:17:09.02 we would see a small garden 00:17:09.06\00:17:11.43 that was being well taken care of. 00:17:11.46\00:17:12.79 These people are now able to raise 00:17:12.83\00:17:14.73 their own crops. 00:17:14.76\00:17:16.46 One thing that I saw yesterday and heard 00:17:16.50\00:17:20.00 is one of the people living there 00:17:20.04\00:17:21.64 in the refugee camp. 00:17:21.67\00:17:23.91 They've been very discouraged. 00:17:23.94\00:17:25.87 They're given a very small amount of land, 00:17:25.91\00:17:27.54 and they feel like 00:17:27.58\00:17:28.91 there's nothing they can do with it 00:17:28.94\00:17:30.28 because the rent, the land that they've been given 00:17:30.31\00:17:31.65 is very rocky. 00:17:31.68\00:17:33.01 There's not a lot of resources there 00:17:33.05\00:17:34.98 as far as growing their own things. 00:17:35.02\00:17:36.79 And the techniques and hope that they have been given 00:17:36.82\00:17:41.72 through the FARM STEW trainers, 00:17:41.76\00:17:43.26 they're like we can do something 00:17:43.29\00:17:44.96 even with this small amount of resources, 00:17:44.99\00:17:47.43 we can contribute to the health of our children, 00:17:47.46\00:17:50.53 we can take some ownership 00:17:50.57\00:17:53.44 and be able to have 00:17:53.47\00:17:54.80 some kind of positive effect not only on their own family, 00:17:54.84\00:17:58.31 but also on their neighbors as well. 00:17:58.34\00:17:59.87 So their lives are being changed. 00:17:59.91\00:18:01.84 And that was very encouraging to see them taking to heart, 00:18:01.88\00:18:05.08 these different aspects of FARM STEW 00:18:05.11\00:18:07.32 and it truly being a blessing to them 00:18:07.35\00:18:09.42 to their children and even to their neighbors. 00:18:09.45\00:18:11.69 When I was still walking in my cafe is when I met Joy, 00:18:11.72\00:18:17.03 the founder of FARM STEW, Uganda. 00:18:17.06\00:18:20.10 She came she wanted to do some stuff 00:18:20.13\00:18:23.20 on printing and design. 00:18:23.23\00:18:25.93 And that is how we met. 00:18:25.97\00:18:29.27 And after a meeting, 00:18:29.30\00:18:32.71 she told me about her idea 00:18:32.74\00:18:35.11 of starting an organization FARM STEW, 00:18:35.14\00:18:40.92 Uganda. 00:18:40.95\00:18:42.38 And when I flashed back my life which was not easy at all, 00:18:42.42\00:18:47.09 and there was another opportunity 00:18:47.12\00:18:49.52 of going to serve people 00:18:49.56\00:18:51.73 like how I grew up 00:18:51.76\00:18:55.43 and I knew exactly 00:18:55.46\00:18:57.40 what was people are going through 00:18:57.43\00:18:59.60 I decided and I said, "Yes, I'll be there to serve." 00:18:59.63\00:19:03.81 The FARM STEW it goes down 00:19:28.16\00:19:30.47 to those range and train them how they can change their life, 00:19:30.50\00:19:35.10 how they can utilize the land 00:19:35.14\00:19:38.07 which you are having to be productive. 00:19:38.11\00:19:41.81 FARM STEW provides vegetable seedlings 00:19:41.84\00:19:45.68 to those people after training them 00:19:45.71\00:19:47.72 how they can grow them. 00:19:47.75\00:19:50.99 Thank you so much for that video, Joy. 00:19:51.02\00:19:53.76 What we saw there is a section in Uganda where you work, 00:19:53.79\00:19:58.66 where you have a FARM STEW. 00:19:58.69\00:20:00.03 You mentioned 00:20:00.06\00:20:01.40 it's in various parts of Africa. 00:20:01.43\00:20:02.76 What are some of the other places 00:20:02.80\00:20:04.13 where FARM STEW is? 00:20:04.17\00:20:05.50 So as Edward mentioned, we started in Uganda. 00:20:05.53\00:20:08.60 He's our country director. 00:20:08.64\00:20:10.37 And then the Lord led us into South Sudan 00:20:10.41\00:20:12.87 by the invitation of the president 00:20:12.91\00:20:14.28 of the church there. 00:20:14.31\00:20:16.14 And Zimbabwe, 00:20:16.18\00:20:17.91 where I went with 00:20:17.95\00:20:19.28 It Is Written actually as a health evangelist 00:20:19.31\00:20:21.32 and we had some key people there. 00:20:21.35\00:20:23.42 And we started a team there and most recently, 00:20:23.45\00:20:25.85 we are going to start in Rwanda, 00:20:25.89\00:20:28.52 would have started already 00:20:28.56\00:20:29.89 had the school been able to open, 00:20:29.92\00:20:32.03 but we're excited to partner 00:20:32.06\00:20:33.40 with the Adventist School of Medicine 00:20:33.43\00:20:35.90 in Kigali, Rwanda. 00:20:35.93\00:20:37.47 Okay. 00:20:37.50\00:20:38.90 That is opening a lot of doors. 00:20:38.93\00:20:40.84 Now, we've mentioned the word FARM STEW 00:20:40.87\00:20:42.34 a number of times farm and stew. 00:20:42.37\00:20:45.27 What does FARM STEW mean? Right. 00:20:45.31\00:20:47.41 Well, we have the letters here in a picture 00:20:47.44\00:20:49.54 that people can see. 00:20:49.58\00:20:50.91 So it's a health message with eight letters. 00:20:50.95\00:20:53.21 And each letter stands for something so farming, 00:20:53.25\00:20:56.85 attitude, rest, and meals, sanitation, temperance, 00:20:56.89\00:21:03.79 enterprise, and water. 00:21:03.83\00:21:06.39 So those are the letters. 00:21:06.43\00:21:08.00 Here it is farming, attitude, rest, meals, that's farm, 00:21:08.03\00:21:13.57 and sanitation, temperance, enterprise, and water. 00:21:13.60\00:21:17.01 Wow. Innovative. 00:21:17.04\00:21:19.04 How'd you come up with the idea? 00:21:19.07\00:21:20.74 Honestly, I believe that was a gift 00:21:20.78\00:21:22.68 completely from God. 00:21:22.71\00:21:24.41 And it was really came to me in one Sabbath afternoon 00:21:24.45\00:21:26.92 I was reading a lot of Adventist literature, 00:21:26.95\00:21:29.98 I was actually out on the trampoline for my kids. 00:21:30.02\00:21:32.85 Just getting some sun, 00:21:32.89\00:21:34.22 you know, building the vitamin D. 00:21:34.26\00:21:35.72 And I was just praying like, asking God, 00:21:35.76\00:21:39.16 "Is there something that the poorest of the poor 00:21:39.19\00:21:42.66 could benefit from?" 00:21:42.70\00:21:44.30 But amazingly, 00:21:44.33\00:21:45.67 it's not just the poor, like sanitation. 00:21:45.70\00:21:48.07 That's not something that's in 00:21:48.10\00:21:49.44 any of our other health messages, 00:21:49.47\00:21:51.51 but now we know hand washing, 00:21:51.54\00:21:54.04 you know, the World Health Organization 00:21:54.08\00:21:56.28 says it can save more lives 00:21:56.31\00:21:57.71 than any immunization 00:21:57.75\00:21:59.28 or any other medical treatment combined. 00:21:59.31\00:22:01.58 Just hand washing. Right. 00:22:01.62\00:22:03.59 So we've all been getting a lesson 00:22:03.62\00:22:05.99 recently in hand washing. 00:22:06.02\00:22:08.22 So when you think about FARM STEW, 00:22:08.26\00:22:09.76 how could that help people in difficult times? 00:22:09.79\00:22:12.53 So one of the things that we did as an organization, 00:22:12.56\00:22:15.30 our board, which we don't have a big headquarters, 00:22:15.33\00:22:18.43 we've always been just working from our homes here 00:22:18.47\00:22:20.70 in North America. 00:22:20.74\00:22:22.07 And so we've always met virtually, 00:22:22.10\00:22:24.04 so our board of directors got together 00:22:24.07\00:22:26.07 when things started 00:22:26.11\00:22:27.44 getting interesting around here. 00:22:27.48\00:22:29.11 And I said, "How can we make FARM STEW be a blessing 00:22:29.14\00:22:32.11 to people here?" 00:22:32.15\00:22:33.48 And so we came out with this, I believe you have it, 00:22:33.52\00:22:35.98 the FARM STEW wellness guide. 00:22:36.02\00:22:37.39 Yes, that's right. 00:22:37.42\00:22:39.12 And I wanna let all of the viewers know 00:22:39.15\00:22:40.96 that you can go to FarmStew.org. 00:22:40.99\00:22:44.16 So it's just FarmStew.org 00:22:44.19\00:22:48.03 and if you wait about 5 or 10 seconds, 00:22:48.06\00:22:49.96 there'll be something pop up that says help fight COVID 00:22:50.00\00:22:52.70 and get your wellness guide, 00:22:52.73\00:22:54.14 and that's what we wanna spend a little bit of time 00:22:54.17\00:22:56.30 talking about today. 00:22:56.34\00:22:58.07 Because, you know, 00:22:58.11\00:22:59.44 you've been hearing a lot messages 00:22:59.47\00:23:00.81 and they basically all say the same three things, 00:23:00.84\00:23:03.18 isolate yourself, 00:23:03.21\00:23:04.71 wear your mask, and wash your hands. 00:23:04.75\00:23:06.61 Those are important, 00:23:06.65\00:23:08.02 but there's so much more 00:23:08.05\00:23:09.38 to building a healthy immune system 00:23:09.42\00:23:11.29 and having a healthy outlook 00:23:11.32\00:23:13.25 that's going to help people not only stay healthy, 00:23:13.29\00:23:15.66 but stay sane during this time. 00:23:15.69\00:23:18.19 So that's what our wellness guide 00:23:18.23\00:23:19.56 is designed to do. 00:23:19.59\00:23:21.23 Yeah, we went there and we saw a pop up. 00:23:21.26\00:23:22.60 Yeah. 00:23:22.63\00:23:23.97 If you do go to that website, you get a chance to see 00:23:24.00\00:23:26.47 that when you go to FarmStew.org. 00:23:26.50\00:23:28.97 It just like she said, wait about 10 seconds 00:23:29.00\00:23:30.34 and it will pop up. 00:23:30.37\00:23:31.71 It did. 00:23:31.74\00:23:33.07 As a little caption in the center 00:23:33.11\00:23:34.44 where you can put your first and last name 00:23:34.48\00:23:35.81 and email 00:23:35.84\00:23:37.18 and get a copy of the wellness guide. 00:23:37.21\00:23:38.55 Exactly. 00:23:38.58\00:23:39.91 I'm gonna keep it up so we can try that out. 00:23:39.95\00:23:41.42 That's wonderful. 00:23:41.45\00:23:42.78 Well, we invite you to do that. 00:23:42.82\00:23:44.15 We're excited to be able to stay 00:23:44.19\00:23:45.62 in touch with you, 00:23:45.65\00:23:46.99 but right now what I wanna talk about is farming. 00:23:47.02\00:23:50.13 Gardening gets you outside. 00:23:50.16\00:23:53.13 It gets you out in the fresh air, sunshine, 00:23:53.16\00:23:55.80 you're getting exercise. 00:23:55.83\00:23:57.40 There was a study that came out actually just this week 00:23:57.43\00:23:59.43 from Princeton University. 00:23:59.47\00:24:01.50 It was saying that gardening makes you happy, 00:24:01.54\00:24:04.31 even as much as really rigorous exercise. 00:24:04.34\00:24:07.18 Now I'm all for exercise too, 00:24:07.21\00:24:09.11 but gardening is a form of exercise. 00:24:09.14\00:24:11.18 And it cuts across all classes, races, colors, anywhere, 00:24:11.21\00:24:14.82 so you don't have to live in the country, 00:24:14.85\00:24:17.19 although that's a blessed thing to be right now, 00:24:17.22\00:24:20.16 but even if you can just put a small area 00:24:20.19\00:24:22.42 about the size of this table, 00:24:22.46\00:24:23.93 you can grow a lot of food for your family. 00:24:23.96\00:24:27.73 And, you know, at this time, when so many things are dying, 00:24:27.76\00:24:33.54 whether it's people in your life, loved ones, 00:24:33.57\00:24:37.31 maybe it's just your dream. 00:24:37.34\00:24:39.24 Maybe you couldn't graduate, 00:24:39.27\00:24:40.64 maybe you lost your job or your business is dying. 00:24:40.68\00:24:44.91 There's something very healthy about seeing something grow. 00:24:44.95\00:24:48.98 So we wanna encourage people 00:24:49.02\00:24:50.49 just get out there with your shovel. 00:24:50.52\00:24:51.95 Don't make it too big so that it feels oppressive. 00:24:51.99\00:24:54.66 That's right. That's beautiful. 00:30:01.80\00:30:03.33 And we know in the Bible it talks about planting. 00:30:03.37\00:30:05.90 Is that the new earth? 00:30:05.93\00:30:07.34 Oh, yeah, well in the new earth we're gonna have... 00:30:07.37\00:30:10.21 I like the Bible says, we're gonna plant vineyards 00:30:10.24\00:30:11.61 and eat of them. 00:30:11.64\00:30:12.97 Yeah. Exactly. 00:30:13.01\00:30:14.34 So that's what's happening already in Africa, 00:30:14.38\00:30:15.71 in the places where FARM STEW is they're planting 00:30:15.74\00:30:17.41 and they're eating of their own crops. 00:30:17.45\00:30:18.85 Yes. 00:30:18.88\00:30:20.22 They're not planting and just selling to stores 00:30:20.25\00:30:21.62 and buying it back and eating, 00:30:21.65\00:30:22.98 but they're eating right there from nature's bounty. 00:30:23.02\00:30:25.52 Right. 00:30:25.55\00:30:26.89 And we just started something new. 00:30:26.92\00:30:28.29 Actually, we've gotten a big delivery 00:30:28.32\00:30:30.43 of fruit trees recently. 00:30:30.46\00:30:33.46 So we're actually when you said the trees, 00:30:33.50\00:30:35.30 you know, I think of the tree of life 00:30:35.33\00:30:37.27 and a different fruit for every season, 00:30:37.30\00:30:40.24 you know, it's gonna be so awesome. 00:30:40.27\00:30:42.00 And we try to really train people 00:30:42.04\00:30:44.01 about the nutritional value of fruits and vegetables. 00:30:44.04\00:30:46.88 That's for the M for our meals curriculum 00:30:46.91\00:30:49.28 is this whole food plant-based diet. 00:30:49.31\00:30:51.98 And we actually are building a solar dryer in Uganda 00:30:52.01\00:30:55.88 and in South Sudan 00:30:55.92\00:30:57.25 so we can help people solar drying of their fruit. 00:30:57.29\00:31:02.06 So they can preserve it and make money off of it. 00:31:02.09\00:31:06.86 You know, if all the mangoes become ripe at the same time 00:31:06.90\00:31:08.86 I hate to say, 00:31:08.90\00:31:10.23 but a lot of them are rotting on the ground. 00:31:10.27\00:31:11.60 That's true. 00:31:11.63\00:31:12.97 You could do a lot more that can give you longevity 00:31:13.00\00:31:15.60 for food down the road, if it's preserved. 00:31:15.64\00:31:18.57 Exactly. 00:31:18.61\00:31:19.94 Now how was FARM STEW moving forward in Africa? 00:31:19.97\00:31:23.31 So these invitations like I mentioned in Rwanda 00:31:23.35\00:31:26.51 to partner with the local medical school, 00:31:26.55\00:31:28.95 the seventh Adventist medical school in the world. 00:31:28.98\00:31:32.65 We also are doing so much and I wanna show one thing 00:31:32.69\00:31:36.46 we started this year which is our first new well, 00:31:36.49\00:31:39.79 and we have a picture of it. 00:31:39.83\00:31:41.16 Let's see. 00:31:41.20\00:31:42.53 We really felt like the committees 00:31:42.56\00:31:43.90 where we're working, 00:31:43.93\00:31:45.27 they have a lot of what they need 00:31:45.30\00:31:46.74 and they're building a lot of capacity, 00:31:46.77\00:31:48.10 but if you don't have clean water, 00:31:48.14\00:31:50.04 you can't be healthy. 00:31:50.07\00:31:51.41 You can't. 00:31:51.44\00:31:52.77 In fact, 2,300 children die every day 00:31:52.81\00:31:57.11 from contaminated water 00:31:57.15\00:31:58.71 or lack of water globally every day. 00:31:58.75\00:32:02.12 So, you know, 00:32:02.15\00:32:03.49 the world has stopped for COVID. 00:32:03.52\00:32:05.35 Right. But it hasn't. 00:32:05.39\00:32:06.72 What about hunger? 00:32:06.76\00:32:08.09 You know, 00:32:08.12\00:32:09.46 there's 9 million people die every year of hunger 00:32:09.49\00:32:12.53 related diseases. 00:32:12.56\00:32:14.30 And the world has not stopped for that. 00:32:14.33\00:32:17.07 And I don't want us to stop. 00:32:17.10\00:32:18.83 I want us to start. 00:32:18.87\00:32:20.20 I want us to start caring for the poor 00:32:20.24\00:32:22.34 as Jesus called us to. 00:32:22.37\00:32:24.71 And, you know, Sister White, 00:32:24.74\00:32:26.07 we had a quote that popped up before I wanna share a quote, 00:32:26.11\00:32:28.54 how do we care for the poor? 00:32:28.58\00:32:30.95 She gave us amazing counsel. 00:32:30.98\00:32:33.65 It starts like this. 00:32:33.68\00:32:35.12 It says, "You give to the poor and endure them 00:32:35.15\00:32:40.26 by teaching them to be dependent. 00:32:40.29\00:32:43.26 Instead teach them to help themselves." 00:32:43.29\00:32:46.59 And she says, 00:32:46.63\00:32:47.96 "The needy must be placed in a position 00:32:48.00\00:32:50.17 where they can help themselves." 00:32:50.20\00:32:51.97 And I love that quote 00:32:52.00\00:32:53.34 because there's a role for us as outsiders, 00:32:53.37\00:32:55.77 but it's not to come and do for people. 00:32:55.80\00:32:58.61 It's to place them in a position 00:32:58.64\00:33:01.14 where they can help themselves. 00:33:01.18\00:33:02.51 Exactly. 00:33:02.54\00:33:03.88 And that's what we do with our staff 00:33:03.91\00:33:05.25 and our trainers. 00:33:05.28\00:33:06.61 For example, Edward, 00:33:06.65\00:33:07.98 who is speaking before our country director, 00:33:08.02\00:33:10.82 he has an amazing story. He was an orphan. 00:33:10.85\00:33:14.09 And his story you can find on our website at about us, 00:33:14.12\00:33:17.49 this his seven-minute story, 00:33:17.53\00:33:18.86 the Outpost Centers International came 00:33:18.89\00:33:21.00 and they did these videos for us. 00:33:21.03\00:33:22.80 They captured his story in such a beautiful way. 00:33:22.83\00:33:25.10 His life has been transformed into a life of service. 00:33:25.13\00:33:28.97 And he is fulfilled because he is serving people. 00:33:29.00\00:33:32.01 And he went through hardship, as he mentioned. 00:33:32.04\00:33:35.64 And, you know, for all of us 00:33:35.68\00:33:37.01 going through hardship right now, 00:33:37.05\00:33:38.61 one of the best ways to get out of our funk, 00:33:38.65\00:33:42.02 whatever that might be, is to serve somebody else. 00:33:42.05\00:33:45.52 You know, write somebody a card, 00:33:45.55\00:33:47.99 you know, just reach out to neighbor, 00:33:48.02\00:33:49.42 maybe dig a little garden tree to your neighbor as well. 00:33:49.46\00:33:52.29 So... That's true. 00:33:52.33\00:33:53.66 And you also talked about Wyatt. 00:33:53.70\00:33:56.26 Talk about Wyatt? 00:33:56.30\00:33:58.00 So Wyatt is a young man, he's a volunteer. 00:33:58.03\00:34:02.00 And we are thrilled to have him. 00:34:02.04\00:34:03.67 He's actually a "botanist." 00:34:03.71\00:34:05.37 We were talking about agronomist and botanist, 00:34:05.41\00:34:07.41 and he recently dedicated himself to FARM STEW. 00:34:07.44\00:34:12.71 And he actually went over to Uganda 00:34:12.75\00:34:14.18 and was doing the training 00:34:14.22\00:34:16.38 to be ready to launch our program in Rwanda. 00:34:16.42\00:34:19.29 And I think we have a video, why it was involved in, 00:34:19.32\00:34:22.26 so let's jump to that. 00:34:22.29\00:34:23.76 Okay, let's look at that. 00:34:23.79\00:34:25.13 I want to tell you a story. 00:34:28.70\00:34:31.63 There was once a village 00:34:31.67\00:34:33.00 deep in the heart of East Africa. 00:34:33.03\00:34:34.80 Passing by, one can see there were lots of children 00:34:34.84\00:34:37.71 and laughter, 00:34:37.74\00:34:39.07 farms that stretched for miles 00:34:39.11\00:34:40.48 and everyone been huge grins as people drove by. 00:34:40.51\00:34:44.71 Many passed in way to the friendly villagers, 00:34:44.75\00:34:47.25 but there were things that lay hidden beyond 00:34:47.28\00:34:48.92 the sight of a passing car window. 00:34:48.95\00:34:51.79 No one saw the villager scavenging in trees 00:34:51.82\00:34:54.49 looking for leaves to eat. 00:34:54.52\00:34:56.19 No one seemed to understand 00:34:56.22\00:34:57.66 that no matter how hard they tried, 00:34:57.69\00:34:59.69 those miles of farmland 00:34:59.73\00:35:01.20 had stopped producing food years ago, 00:35:01.23\00:35:03.70 their soil was dying. 00:35:03.73\00:35:05.27 And the village's drinking water 00:35:05.30\00:35:06.70 was contaminated with feces and roadside chemicals. 00:35:06.74\00:35:09.94 No one knew 00:35:09.97\00:35:11.31 that the village's children were hungry. 00:35:11.34\00:35:13.14 Things were getting worse. Children were dying now. 00:35:13.17\00:35:16.14 It didn't used to be this way. 00:35:16.18\00:35:18.68 FARM STEW is an acronym 00:35:18.71\00:35:20.62 for a recipe to an abundant life. 00:35:20.65\00:35:24.22 The ingredients are farming, attitude, rest, meals, 00:35:24.25\00:35:30.86 sanitation, temperance, enterprise, and water. 00:35:30.89\00:35:36.40 The ingredients encouraged change using education 00:35:36.43\00:35:39.73 to improve the health and well-being of poor families 00:35:39.77\00:35:43.51 and vulnerable people. 00:35:43.54\00:35:45.14 I saw FARM STEW demonstrating 00:35:45.17\00:35:47.28 how to effectively repair the soil 00:35:47.31\00:35:49.41 and grow nutritionally sensitive crops 00:35:49.44\00:35:51.41 like soy and fruit trees. 00:35:51.45\00:35:53.52 I witness the first farmer field school 00:35:53.55\00:35:56.15 being used to teach a community how to grow their own food. 00:35:56.18\00:36:00.49 Six brand new wells were installed 00:36:00.52\00:36:02.89 in our communities. 00:36:02.92\00:36:04.39 Clean, sparkling water flowed out 00:36:04.43\00:36:06.43 to all that needed it. 00:36:06.46\00:36:08.20 I watched FARM STEW make soy milk, 00:36:08.23\00:36:10.30 whole grain porches, 00:36:10.33\00:36:11.67 and teach how to collect nutritious greens 00:36:11.70\00:36:14.07 growing wild in the field. 00:36:14.10\00:36:16.24 The children of these communities 00:36:16.27\00:36:17.97 were not going to starve. 00:36:18.01\00:36:19.71 FARM STEW is a tool to meet people's needs 00:36:19.74\00:36:22.08 and bring the love of Jesus to the works of this church. 00:36:22.11\00:36:26.08 Wyatt. 00:36:26.11\00:36:27.45 Beautiful. It's amazing. 00:36:27.48\00:36:28.82 You can see how the people are excited about. 00:36:28.85\00:36:30.72 And how do you feel 00:36:30.75\00:36:32.55 when you see the sense of accomplishment 00:36:32.59\00:36:34.79 and transforming lives? 00:36:34.82\00:36:36.16 Because you talked about contaminated water, 00:36:36.19\00:36:38.16 food supplies 00:36:38.19\00:36:39.53 and when you mentioned the backdrop of one third 00:36:39.56\00:36:41.96 of the supplies have been cut to people 00:36:42.00\00:36:45.17 that have this great food need. 00:36:45.20\00:36:47.80 When you think about FARM STEW, 00:36:47.84\00:36:49.34 what sense of accomplishment do you sense? 00:36:49.37\00:36:51.84 Honestly, I just praise God 00:36:51.87\00:36:53.38 because I've talked to a lot of our trainers 00:36:53.41\00:36:55.61 over the last few weeks and they just said, 00:36:55.64\00:36:57.41 you know, "Joy, this message was for such a time as this." 00:36:57.45\00:37:01.72 And there are many people suffering right now 00:37:01.75\00:37:04.72 all over the world, 00:37:04.75\00:37:06.09 many starving before the virus will hit them, 00:37:06.12\00:37:08.82 they will starve, but, you know, 00:37:08.86\00:37:10.63 in the FARM STEW communities, 00:37:10.66\00:37:12.06 the people that have taken 00:37:12.09\00:37:13.63 this message to heart, they are not suffering. 00:37:13.66\00:37:17.40 They're out in these rural villages, 00:37:17.43\00:37:18.93 they're growing their own food. 00:37:18.97\00:37:20.74 They're washing their hands properly. 00:37:20.77\00:37:22.64 They have their latrines. 00:37:22.67\00:37:24.44 You know, they are not struggling 00:37:24.47\00:37:25.87 in the same way. 00:37:25.91\00:37:27.24 And I praise God for that. 00:37:27.28\00:37:28.61 I only wish we were bigger. 00:37:28.64\00:37:31.21 And I know God wants us to grow 00:37:31.25\00:37:33.08 because I know He wants 00:37:33.11\00:37:35.02 abundant life for all people. 00:37:35.05\00:37:37.12 And, you know, why we had to bring Him home. 00:37:37.15\00:37:39.95 His time in Rwanda is gonna have to wait 00:37:39.99\00:37:42.02 until the school can open, 00:37:42.06\00:37:43.49 but praise God, 00:37:43.53\00:37:44.86 our 30 African staff are still there, 00:37:44.89\00:37:48.46 and they are still doing what they can. 00:37:48.50\00:37:50.73 So when we first heard about the virus we had, 00:37:50.77\00:37:53.70 Betty will show a picture of her. 00:37:53.74\00:37:56.04 We made a flyer about COVID before there was even a case 00:37:56.07\00:38:01.21 in Uganda or South Sudan, 00:38:01.24\00:38:02.64 we were out handing out these flyers 00:38:02.68\00:38:05.48 and putting them up and educating people 00:38:05.51\00:38:07.52 and actually the local governor of Iganga, 00:38:07.55\00:38:10.55 which is the capital city where we are in Uganda. 00:38:10.59\00:38:12.79 Okay. 00:38:12.82\00:38:14.16 They thanked us on live radio 00:38:14.19\00:38:15.99 saying we were doing a great job, 00:38:16.02\00:38:17.96 and then we've been able to go out 00:38:17.99\00:38:19.73 and teach the hand washing. 00:38:19.76\00:38:21.56 Now everybody's listening. 00:38:21.60\00:38:23.53 Before people were just in hand washing, 00:38:23.57\00:38:25.40 but you can see them with their masks. 00:38:25.43\00:38:28.00 I know I noticed that the people had a mask. 00:38:28.04\00:38:30.94 And you talk about a little girl Tippy. 00:38:30.97\00:38:34.74 Yeah, the next picture is one of my favorites. 00:38:34.78\00:38:36.98 You know, we can teach adults and the adults we teach them 00:38:37.01\00:38:40.12 to love their children. 00:38:40.15\00:38:41.92 And we're excited about... 00:38:41.95\00:38:43.69 Is this her? Yes, this is her. 00:38:43.72\00:38:46.19 So she, you know, as young as five years old, 00:38:46.22\00:38:48.46 they can really learn how to take care of themselves. 00:38:48.49\00:38:50.96 I don't know if people caught that, 00:38:50.99\00:38:52.33 she's washing her hands. 00:38:52.36\00:38:53.70 Exactly. 00:38:53.73\00:38:55.06 You know, we did it like that too. 00:38:55.10\00:38:56.43 Yeah, so a tippy tap. I'll just say briefly. 00:38:56.46\00:38:57.83 It's what you how you can wash your hands with running water 00:38:57.87\00:39:00.50 in an area 00:39:00.54\00:39:01.87 where there is no running water. 00:39:01.90\00:39:03.34 And, you know, the Bible is the first place 00:39:03.37\00:39:05.94 where it said we should wash with running water. 00:39:05.97\00:39:08.71 That was long before germs were discovered. 00:39:08.74\00:39:10.85 God knew 00:39:10.88\00:39:12.21 that we needed to wash off germs. 00:39:12.25\00:39:14.05 So that's what we train and now people really get it. 00:39:14.08\00:39:18.02 There's a lot of interest in our message. 00:39:18.05\00:39:20.62 That's true. Oh, my... 00:39:20.66\00:39:23.46 Now talk about FARM STEW in the gospel. 00:39:23.49\00:39:25.89 How is it spreading the gospel? 00:39:25.93\00:39:27.26 Oh, yeah. 00:39:27.30\00:39:28.63 Well, first, I just praise God 00:39:28.66\00:39:30.20 because all of our curriculum is infused 00:39:30.23\00:39:33.37 with the Scripture, our staff, 00:39:33.40\00:39:35.80 our godly people who love the Lord 00:39:35.84\00:39:38.77 and love His church. 00:39:38.81\00:39:40.41 And so the gospel goes with them, 00:39:40.44\00:39:43.28 but we also feel that we are the right arm 00:39:43.31\00:39:46.11 of the gospel. 00:39:46.15\00:39:47.48 So we're just opening the door for the church. 00:39:47.52\00:39:50.39 And I wanna share with you a video by Pastor Thomas Amoli, 00:39:50.42\00:39:54.19 he is actually the pastor that's over the refugee camps, 00:39:54.22\00:39:57.53 the South Sudanese camps 00:39:57.56\00:39:58.89 and he shares it so eloquently 00:39:58.93\00:40:01.40 I would love to let him put it in his words. 00:40:01.43\00:40:03.43 Okay, Pastor Thomas Amoli. 00:40:03.47\00:40:06.63 FARM STEW come in with this idea 00:40:06.67\00:40:10.31 that we can grow our food 00:40:10.34\00:40:13.78 from those small compounds 00:40:13.81\00:40:15.51 or small plot given to us by UN, 00:40:15.54\00:40:18.68 that was when our eyes open that we can see light 00:40:18.71\00:40:24.52 where things are coming for our own good. 00:40:24.55\00:40:30.26 That makes me to remember what Paul says in Roman 00:40:30.29\00:40:34.00 that all things happen for the good of God's people. 00:40:34.03\00:40:39.17 On that point I think FARM STEW came 00:40:39.20\00:40:43.91 through Mama Doreen in March, 00:40:43.94\00:40:47.34 I think it was in Bidibidi and April it reached us 00:40:47.38\00:40:51.95 and we started moving. 00:40:51.98\00:40:53.31 I was there 00:40:53.35\00:40:54.68 with my associate pastor Everest. 00:40:54.72\00:40:57.72 We moved from camp to camp, 00:40:57.75\00:41:00.89 taking Mama Doreen 00:41:00.92\00:41:02.42 teaching all these new skill 00:41:02.46\00:41:06.80 that FARM STEW is bringing in our life, 00:41:06.83\00:41:10.63 in our church to our members. 00:41:10.67\00:41:13.57 And you can see light coming to members' face. 00:41:13.60\00:41:16.50 Now we have hope for our children, 00:41:16.54\00:41:19.67 we have hope for ourselves. 00:41:19.71\00:41:22.21 We have new things 00:41:22.24\00:41:24.75 when we learned about the soya bean. 00:41:24.78\00:41:27.78 Ah, people could make milk from soya bean. 00:41:27.82\00:41:30.59 People say, "Wow, that is the point. 00:41:30.62\00:41:33.46 We left our milk. 00:41:33.49\00:41:35.02 God has brought our milk back 00:41:35.06\00:41:37.26 through getting milk from soil." 00:41:37.29\00:41:40.10 That was a big takeout. 00:41:40.13\00:41:42.36 You know, I tell people 00:41:42.40\00:41:43.73 that I see now FARM STEW be like 00:41:43.77\00:41:48.44 John the Baptist going ahead, 00:41:48.47\00:41:51.74 and then we as pastors and ministers 00:41:51.77\00:41:53.68 will follow with the message, with the gospel, 00:41:53.71\00:41:57.08 it's powerful. 00:41:57.11\00:41:59.18 They prepare people health's wise, food wise, 00:41:59.21\00:42:03.22 natural food, making everything. 00:42:03.25\00:42:05.72 I think that is a very powerful thing. 00:42:05.75\00:42:08.52 That with the help of FARM STEW 00:42:08.56\00:42:10.43 is a right hand for me as a pastor. 00:42:10.46\00:42:14.10 As they move, the gospel goes 00:42:14.13\00:42:18.30 and people hear the word of hope 00:42:18.33\00:42:20.94 and they eat the natural food 00:42:20.97\00:42:23.17 that they produced by themselves powerfully. 00:42:23.20\00:42:28.08 We've already seen dramatic improvements 00:42:28.11\00:42:30.45 in the lives of thousands of people 00:42:30.48\00:42:32.51 FARM STEW has trained. 00:42:32.55\00:42:34.58 The FARM STEW recipe of abundant life 00:42:34.62\00:42:37.05 has developed by examining the factors 00:42:37.09\00:42:39.79 that lead to global hotspots of health and longevity, 00:42:39.82\00:42:43.79 the Blue Zones. 00:42:43.83\00:42:45.39 FARM STEW is real tested and working solution. 00:42:45.43\00:42:50.63 Also Pastor Amoli is very much involved 00:42:50.67\00:42:52.83 in the gospel aspect of FARM STEW there 00:42:52.87\00:42:56.24 and what area is he in by the way? 00:42:56.27\00:42:58.84 So he is overseeing the refugee camps 00:42:58.87\00:43:01.81 and the South Sudan attached territory 00:43:01.84\00:43:04.18 actually goes into Uganda. 00:43:04.21\00:43:07.02 And so because they have so many members 00:43:07.05\00:43:10.25 that actually live in Uganda 00:43:10.29\00:43:11.62 because of the volatile situation 00:43:11.65\00:43:13.76 in the country of South Sudan, 00:43:13.79\00:43:15.92 it's quite a dangerous place, actually. 00:43:15.96\00:43:18.76 Yes. 00:43:18.79\00:43:20.13 Now what is your vision for Africa with the FARM STEW? 00:43:20.16\00:43:26.00 Yeah. 00:43:26.03\00:43:27.37 So the vision that I feel that God has given not only me, 00:43:27.40\00:43:31.37 but our entire board of directors, 00:43:31.41\00:43:32.77 I have a fabulous, fabulous Board of Directors 00:43:32.81\00:43:34.94 very engaged. 00:43:34.98\00:43:36.31 We have volunteers all over the United States. 00:43:36.34\00:43:37.91 I just wanna shout out to them and thank them as well. 00:43:37.95\00:43:41.35 The vision is that we could partner 00:43:41.38\00:43:43.42 with the church around the world. 00:43:43.45\00:43:46.05 For example, there are 8 million members 00:43:46.09\00:43:48.22 in Sub-Saharan Africa alone. 00:43:48.26\00:43:50.53 Adventists? Adventist members. 00:43:50.56\00:43:52.76 Eight million? 00:43:52.79\00:43:54.13 Yes, and growing, 00:43:54.16\00:43:56.00 40% of the church growth is happening 00:43:56.03\00:43:58.10 in the three divisions of Sub-Saharan Africa. 00:43:58.13\00:43:59.73 Beautiful. 00:43:59.77\00:44:01.10 So we can partner with them. 00:44:01.14\00:44:02.47 I'd love every church to have a FARM STEW committee. 00:44:02.50\00:44:05.54 You can see a picture here of Pastor Dukubiey 00:44:05.57\00:44:09.04 learning to wash his hands from FARM STEW, 00:44:09.08\00:44:11.35 so Pastor Dukubiey has been the original pastor. 00:44:11.38\00:44:15.78 I played clips of him on other 3ABN shows. 00:44:15.82\00:44:19.09 He says that where FARM STEW goes, 00:44:19.12\00:44:21.12 people come. 00:44:21.16\00:44:22.49 And so they use us going out before a TMI effort, 00:44:22.52\00:44:25.99 total number involvement effort to bring and attract people 00:44:26.03\00:44:28.83 to the gospel. 00:44:28.86\00:44:30.20 So it's really, really a blessing, 00:44:30.23\00:44:32.10 and then I wanna show one thing 00:44:32.13\00:44:33.74 we were able to do last October, 00:44:33.77\00:44:36.20 I was in South Sudan. 00:44:36.24\00:44:37.87 We brought in leaders from the whole country, 00:44:37.91\00:44:41.54 actually church leaders, 00:44:41.58\00:44:42.91 and you can see one of the pastors, 00:44:42.94\00:44:44.28 Pastor Paul, 00:44:44.31\00:44:45.65 up in the northern part of South Sudan. 00:44:45.68\00:44:48.85 I've never been there 00:44:48.88\00:44:50.22 probably never will get to go there, 00:44:50.25\00:44:51.79 but you can see him holding the FARM STEW rainbow, 00:44:51.82\00:44:54.72 that's our food guide. 00:44:54.76\00:44:56.29 And he is teaching 00:44:56.32\00:44:57.79 the whole foods plant-based diet. 00:44:57.83\00:44:59.39 We sent them out with seeds. 00:44:59.43\00:45:01.16 We had 62 people 00:45:01.20\00:45:02.53 go through a four-day intensive training 00:45:02.56\00:45:04.97 where myself and the local trainers lead out 00:45:05.00\00:45:08.34 and taught partners from all over the church. 00:45:08.37\00:45:10.51 So that's our dream. 00:45:10.54\00:45:12.61 Okay. 00:45:12.64\00:45:13.98 That's fabulous. 00:45:14.01\00:45:15.34 And I noticed that you said Blue Zones. 00:45:15.38\00:45:17.81 Yes. What are Blue Zones? 00:45:17.85\00:45:19.18 Well, as you may know, 00:45:19.21\00:45:21.28 the Loma Linda area has been identified 00:45:21.32\00:45:24.65 as one of the Blue Zones, 00:45:24.69\00:45:26.15 one of the five places in the world 00:45:26.19\00:45:28.09 with a hotspot of health and longevity. 00:45:28.12\00:45:30.63 So our dream is that we could have 00:45:30.66\00:45:33.09 Blue Zones pop up all over the world, 00:45:33.13\00:45:35.16 no matter your race, 00:45:35.20\00:45:36.53 no matter your economic status. 00:45:36.56\00:45:38.60 People can live healthy, abundant lives 00:45:38.63\00:45:40.44 with the gardening, the fresh air, 00:45:40.47\00:45:42.07 the sunshine, the good habits, 00:45:42.10\00:45:44.44 not using alcohol and drugs and all of that 00:45:44.47\00:45:47.64 we can live abundantly and that's my dream. 00:45:47.68\00:45:51.75 And when you talk about support, 00:45:51.78\00:45:54.58 when you look at the future of FARM STEW, 00:45:54.62\00:45:57.52 what are some of the areas that you need 00:45:57.55\00:45:59.12 your financial support 00:45:59.15\00:46:01.02 because you talk about developing the ministry 00:46:01.06\00:46:02.89 how it's still growing. 00:46:02.92\00:46:04.59 And I think this is a great opportunity 00:46:04.63\00:46:06.13 to let our viewers and listeners know, 00:46:06.16\00:46:08.00 here are some of the needs 00:46:08.03\00:46:09.36 and then we can give them information 00:46:09.40\00:46:10.90 on how they could support it. 00:46:10.93\00:46:12.27 Absolutely. 00:46:12.30\00:46:13.64 So one of the things I wanted to show 00:46:13.67\00:46:15.00 is two of our trainers. 00:46:15.04\00:46:16.37 These are South Sudanese refugees, 00:46:16.40\00:46:17.74 and also church elders on a motorcycle. 00:46:17.77\00:46:20.48 So one of the things I mentioned, 00:46:20.51\00:46:22.01 we don't have a big headquarters anywhere, 00:46:22.04\00:46:23.65 we don't believe in that, 00:46:23.68\00:46:25.01 we want people to go out into the rural villages, 00:46:25.05\00:46:27.52 but it takes staff 00:46:27.55\00:46:29.08 like these two wonderful guys, 00:46:29.12\00:46:30.89 this is Joseph and Elias. 00:46:30.92\00:46:33.25 It takes them being paid salaries 00:46:33.29\00:46:36.02 even now during COVID. 00:46:36.06\00:46:37.73 We were able to actually advance their wages 00:46:37.76\00:46:40.10 before the lockdown 00:46:40.13\00:46:41.46 because there was price spikes that happened 00:46:41.50\00:46:43.37 and the Holy Spirit I feel 00:46:43.40\00:46:44.90 directed me to advance their wages 00:46:44.93\00:46:46.87 so that they could be able to feed themselves. 00:46:46.90\00:46:50.57 And we believe a laborer is worthy of their hire. 00:46:50.61\00:46:52.67 So these are full-time people that are out working hard. 00:46:52.71\00:46:56.04 So we have staff wages, transportation, 00:46:56.08\00:46:59.41 and we also help girls with the menstrual cycle. 00:46:59.45\00:47:02.38 So we have a pads project for the girls $15 a girl 00:47:02.42\00:47:06.45 to keep them in school and... 00:47:06.49\00:47:07.82 Fifteen? Yes. 00:47:07.86\00:47:09.19 That's all? 00:47:09.22\00:47:10.56 Yes. Is that for how long? 00:47:10.59\00:47:11.93 Those will last 00:47:11.96\00:47:13.29 for two or three years actually. 00:47:13.33\00:47:14.66 Fifteen dollars? 00:47:14.70\00:47:16.03 Fifteen dollars. Yes. 00:47:16.06\00:47:17.40 It's beautiful. I didn't plan this. 00:47:17.43\00:47:18.87 I feel like God did is $15 to start a garden, 00:47:18.90\00:47:21.47 $15 for pads, 00:47:21.50\00:47:23.07 we can bring water to a community 00:47:23.10\00:47:25.21 and it averaged out. 00:47:25.24\00:47:26.57 I didn't plan this to $15 a person. 00:47:26.61\00:47:29.41 So we try to make it easy. 00:47:29.44\00:47:31.11 Everything in FARM STEW is taking complex ideas. 00:47:31.15\00:47:34.95 You know, I went to Johns Hopkins 00:47:34.98\00:47:36.58 for my master's in Public Health. 00:47:36.62\00:47:38.82 I got a lot of education, but you know what, 00:47:38.85\00:47:40.79 if it's not simple, if it's not practical, 00:47:40.82\00:47:44.46 people aren't gonna do it. 00:47:44.49\00:47:46.09 So we want to put those simple practical skills. 00:47:46.13\00:47:49.56 And also, you know, I wanted to show, 00:47:49.60\00:47:52.30 we have these wells that we're trying to put in 00:47:52.33\00:47:55.30 and that a well, a water that is life for people. 00:47:55.34\00:47:59.77 And we have a matching grant this year for these wells 00:47:59.81\00:48:03.45 where every dollar is matched up to $84,000. 00:48:03.48\00:48:06.38 We have a plan to put in 50 wells, 00:48:06.41\00:48:09.12 we have six in 00:48:09.15\00:48:11.05 and we would have had six more in April 00:48:11.09\00:48:13.82 where it not for the downtime, 00:48:13.86\00:48:16.09 but we are trying to work 00:48:16.12\00:48:17.46 really hard to reach our goal so that's $4,600 per well. 00:48:17.49\00:48:22.23 And that is our dream 00:48:22.26\00:48:23.73 to get those installed this year. 00:48:23.77\00:48:26.00 But it feed, well, the well, what, 00:48:26.03\00:48:29.27 how many people will get use of that well? 00:48:29.30\00:48:31.51 A lot of people will. Oh, a lot of people. 00:48:31.54\00:48:33.54 It's supposed to be defined for about 300, 00:48:33.58\00:48:36.61 but as you know, 00:48:36.64\00:48:37.98 when you put water into community, 00:48:38.01\00:48:40.22 people come. 00:48:40.25\00:48:41.68 And, of course, we teach them also about Jesus 00:48:41.72\00:48:44.12 and the living water 00:48:44.15\00:48:45.49 that would flow from Him for eternal life. 00:48:45.52\00:48:49.26 Now I noticed, you talked about integrating the truth 00:48:49.29\00:48:53.03 with scientific truths. 00:48:53.06\00:48:55.26 That's very interesting. 00:48:55.30\00:48:56.63 Talk about that briefly? Yes. 00:48:56.67\00:48:58.43 So as a trained Public Health Nutritionist, 00:48:58.47\00:49:02.07 I do believe in science, 00:49:02.10\00:49:04.11 there's a lot we can learn from science. 00:49:04.14\00:49:07.24 But we have to start knowing that the Word of God 00:49:07.28\00:49:09.88 is the foundation for truth 00:49:09.91\00:49:11.65 and we build the scientific ideas upon that. 00:49:11.68\00:49:15.25 So there it needs to be an integration and, 00:49:15.28\00:49:17.92 you know, we've gotten some pushback 00:49:17.95\00:49:19.69 of people that say, 00:49:19.72\00:49:21.16 "Well, why are you including the Bible 00:49:21.19\00:49:23.39 in your health curriculum?" 00:49:23.43\00:49:24.76 You know, when I'm out 00:49:24.79\00:49:26.13 talking to the world about that, 00:49:26.16\00:49:28.20 but local people in countries 00:49:28.23\00:49:31.27 where the spiritual life and the physical life 00:49:31.30\00:49:33.90 are not so disconnected, they're integrated. 00:49:33.94\00:49:37.17 And so I believe that this Holy Scripture 00:49:37.21\00:49:40.14 has the power to motivate behavior change 00:49:40.18\00:49:43.18 in a way that nothing else can do. 00:49:43.21\00:49:45.61 And so I've actually been able to be 00:49:45.65\00:49:47.65 in the halls of powerful places, 00:49:47.68\00:49:50.25 you know, seeking resources for FARM STEW 00:49:50.29\00:49:54.66 making actually a case for the Word of God. 00:49:54.69\00:49:57.83 Oh, yeah. Beautiful. 00:49:57.86\00:49:59.19 And that's one of the things we're excited about 00:49:59.23\00:50:00.56 we're doing research 00:50:00.60\00:50:01.93 actually with the University of Macquarie, 00:50:01.96\00:50:04.03 University in Uganda. 00:50:04.07\00:50:05.83 And we have some plans, 00:50:05.87\00:50:07.44 actually to do some other projects 00:50:07.47\00:50:09.00 with other non-Christian non-Adventist groups, 00:50:09.04\00:50:13.34 but all the while defending the Word of God 00:50:13.38\00:50:15.61 being central to our program, 00:50:15.64\00:50:17.48 and we will not depart from that plan. 00:50:17.51\00:50:21.28 I like that, you're talking about not only it's just bread, 00:50:21.32\00:50:23.62 temporary bread, but the bread of life. 00:50:23.65\00:50:25.45 Amen. How it all connects together. 00:50:25.49\00:50:26.82 That's interesting. 00:50:26.86\00:50:28.19 I like that you put that in defending the Word of God. 00:50:28.22\00:50:31.49 What makes that? 00:50:31.53\00:50:33.09 How did that challenge come 00:50:33.13\00:50:34.46 about that you had to include God's Word in that? 00:50:34.50\00:50:38.63 Well, as you know, leading a nonprofit, I mean, 00:50:38.67\00:50:42.30 money doesn't grow on trees. 00:50:42.34\00:50:43.97 True. Not at all. 00:50:44.01\00:50:45.34 So we try to get creative, 00:50:45.37\00:50:47.11 where are we going to look for the funds 00:50:47.14\00:50:49.54 to be able to keep these workers going out, 00:50:49.58\00:50:51.68 to keep the seeds, you know, we buy a lot of seeds, 00:50:51.71\00:50:54.82 we buy the pads for the girls. 00:50:54.85\00:50:56.89 We've served 6,000 girls already. 00:50:56.92\00:50:59.65 So we get ideas who could we partner with? 00:50:59.69\00:51:03.12 Because, you know, Sister White says, 00:51:03.16\00:51:04.86 "Don't just take money from Adventists." 00:51:04.89\00:51:06.49 There are so many Adventist Ministries, 00:51:06.53\00:51:07.86 I don't wanna only be asking Adventist for funds. 00:51:07.90\00:51:11.43 I want to reach out. 00:51:11.47\00:51:13.87 And if I can do it, and our board is committed, 00:51:13.90\00:51:16.37 if we can do it in a way with integrity, 00:51:16.40\00:51:18.97 where we still uphold everything 00:51:19.01\00:51:21.14 about the truth of this church, 00:51:21.18\00:51:23.24 and honor God, 00:51:23.28\00:51:24.61 then anybody can give us resources 00:51:24.65\00:51:26.75 if your stimulus check arrived and you don't need it. 00:51:26.78\00:51:29.55 I like that. I love that. 00:51:29.58\00:51:31.49 I know people that are not getting 00:51:31.52\00:51:33.12 a stimulus check. 00:51:33.15\00:51:34.49 Wow. 00:51:34.52\00:51:35.86 Well, you know, on the other side, 00:51:35.89\00:51:37.23 we're gonna just take a little break, 00:51:37.26\00:51:38.59 but what we've learned about FARM STEW, 00:51:38.63\00:51:39.96 it's a very, very worthy cause. 00:51:40.00\00:51:41.33 Yes, it is. 00:51:41.36\00:51:42.70 And we have a few more things we're gonna say 00:51:42.73\00:51:44.23 about before our program ends, 00:51:44.27\00:51:45.60 but we're gonna take a short news break 00:51:45.63\00:51:47.54 and come back on the other side 00:51:47.57\00:51:48.90 with a few closing thoughts. 00:51:48.94\00:51:50.31 Right. 00:51:50.34\00:51:52.87 If you'd like to find out 00:51:52.91\00:51:54.24 more about how to support FARM STEW International, 00:51:54.28\00:51:56.61 visit their website FarmStew.org. 00:51:56.64\00:51:58.98 That's FarmStew.org. 00:51:59.01\00:52:01.42 You may also call them at 815-200-4925. 00:52:01.45\00:52:06.86 Send an email to hi@farmstew.org 00:52:06.89\00:52:11.36 or write to FARM STEW International, 00:52:11.39\00:52:13.66 PO Box 291, Princeton, Illinois 61356. 00:52:13.70\00:52:18.70
