00:03:34.94\00:03:36.28 It is. 00:03:36.31\00:03:37.65 Never been able to make that 00:03:37.68\00:03:39.01 and maybe not again till the Second Coming. 00:03:39.05\00:03:41.65 But at least, you know, today's the day. 00:03:41.68\00:03:44.65 And, Dan, we've asked you here for a reason. 00:03:44.69\00:03:47.36 And we have some other guests that's coming in by Skype. 00:03:47.39\00:03:50.13 Why don't you talk to our audience... 00:03:50.16\00:03:51.49 Okay. 00:03:51.53\00:03:52.86 At home and tell them what this program is all about? 00:03:52.89\00:03:55.00 Well, just a few weeks ago, if you heard the word corona, 00:03:55.03\00:03:58.40 you might have thought of a town 00:03:58.43\00:03:59.77 about 45 minutes 00:03:59.80\00:04:01.14 from where I live in Southern California, 00:04:01.17\00:04:02.50 Corona, California. 00:04:02.54\00:04:03.91 And maybe along the way, 00:04:03.94\00:04:05.27 I saw a billboard 00:04:05.31\00:04:06.64 that had some kind of a beer advertisement 00:04:06.68\00:04:08.01 said Corona beer. 00:04:08.04\00:04:09.38 But all of a sudden, just a few weeks ago, 00:04:09.41\00:04:11.08 the word coronavirus came into our nomenclature. 00:04:11.11\00:04:14.88 We started hearing that. 00:04:14.92\00:04:16.58 And now that's what you're talking about, Danny, 00:04:16.62\00:04:18.79 that everybody in the world is talking about coronavirus 00:04:18.82\00:04:21.52 and specifically, the COVID-19 variety of a coronavirus. 00:04:21.56\00:04:27.53 And today, we have two special guests 00:04:27.60\00:04:30.67 that are joining us by Skype. 00:04:30.70\00:04:32.43 One of them is Dr. Neil Nedley, 00:04:32.47\00:04:34.47 who is the president of Weimar Institute 00:04:34.50\00:04:36.91 in California, 00:04:36.94\00:04:38.27 a very good friend and also someone 00:04:38.31\00:04:41.81 who is very proficient in his medical work, 00:04:41.84\00:04:44.08 someone who I deeply respect. 00:04:44.15\00:04:46.11 And also, Dr. Wes Youngberg from Temecula, California. 00:04:46.15\00:04:48.92 Dr. Youngberg is a very good friend as well. 00:04:48.95\00:04:51.29 Someone, Danny, who is very into the epidemiology, 00:04:51.32\00:04:55.89 the public health aspects of this in addition 00:04:55.92\00:04:58.03 to the clinical aspects of it. 00:04:58.06\00:04:59.89 And so they're joining us by Skype, 00:04:59.93\00:05:01.46 and we'll be talking with him here momentarily 00:05:01.50\00:05:03.37 in a few minutes. 00:05:03.40\00:05:04.73 But first, you know, the word pestilence 00:05:04.77\00:05:08.37 has been going around a little bit. 00:05:08.40\00:05:10.41 And, Pastor Mark, tell us a little bit 00:05:10.44\00:05:13.04 about what the Bible says about pestilence. 00:05:13.07\00:05:15.91 Well, the Bible uses the term pestilence 81 times. 00:05:15.94\00:05:20.72 I was looking at this last night. 00:05:20.75\00:05:23.69 It uses pestilence in a variety of ways. 00:05:23.72\00:05:26.69 It uses pestilence, 00:05:26.76\00:05:28.09 in the general sense of a pestilence 00:05:28.12\00:05:31.59 that comes upon a people or a nation 00:05:31.63\00:05:34.36 because we're living in a broken world. 00:05:34.40\00:05:36.46 We're living in a world of sickness and suffering 00:05:36.50\00:05:38.87 and heartache and sorrow. 00:05:38.90\00:05:40.67 So in one sense, 00:05:40.74\00:05:42.07 the Bible uses the word pestilence in that way, 00:05:42.10\00:05:44.44 the result of living in a world of sin. 00:05:44.47\00:05:47.28 The Bible also uses the word pestilence, 00:05:47.31\00:05:50.05 in some instances, 00:05:50.08\00:05:51.68 in the idea of the judgments of God, 00:05:51.71\00:05:53.82 the plagues on Egypt are called a pestilence at times. 00:05:53.85\00:05:58.95 When the Bible uses the term pestilence 00:05:58.99\00:06:00.99 in the context of the judgment of God. 00:06:01.02\00:06:03.09 It is often in God's permissive will. 00:06:03.12\00:06:06.70 It's not that God necessarily causes pestilence at times, 00:06:06.73\00:06:11.00 but it's rather that God withdraws His favor, 00:06:11.03\00:06:15.57 and the natural consequence comes in pestilence. 00:06:15.60\00:06:19.34 There are times that the Bible uses the term pestilence 00:06:19.37\00:06:22.24 in another way, 00:06:22.28\00:06:23.65 and that is as a sign of the coming of Jesus. 00:06:23.68\00:06:27.12 If you look, for example, at Luke 21:11, 00:06:27.15\00:06:32.35 the Bible says "There'll be great earthquakes, 00:06:32.39\00:06:34.32 in various places, famines and pestilences, 00:06:34.36\00:06:37.63 and there'll be fearful sights of great signs for heaven." 00:06:37.66\00:06:40.80 And now the question then becomes, 00:06:40.83\00:06:43.26 what about this current virus? 00:06:43.30\00:06:45.87 Is this a sign that Jesus is coming next week 00:06:45.90\00:06:48.17 or the week after? 00:06:48.20\00:06:49.54 Not at all! 00:06:49.57\00:06:50.91 What it does indicate 00:06:50.94\00:06:52.27 is that we're living in a world of uncertainty, 00:06:52.31\00:06:54.34 the signs that the Bible talks about 00:06:54.38\00:06:57.15 in Matthew 24, Luke 21 00:06:57.18\00:06:59.21 are being fulfilled around us today. 00:06:59.25\00:07:01.48 Do they precisely define a period of time 00:07:01.52\00:07:04.65 that Christ is going to come? 00:07:04.69\00:07:06.02 They do not. 00:07:06.05\00:07:07.39 But what they do, do is give you a scenario, 00:07:07.46\00:07:09.49 a scenario that helps you to understand signposts 00:07:09.52\00:07:13.80 on the way of Christ coming. 00:07:13.83\00:07:16.06 I think the greatest lesson we can learn 00:07:16.10\00:07:18.10 though in these pestilences 00:07:18.13\00:07:19.97 is life is very uncertain for all of us. 00:07:20.04\00:07:24.61 And if there ever is a time 00:07:24.64\00:07:26.98 to make a full commitment to Christ, it's now. 00:07:27.01\00:07:30.25 These signs indicate to us, 00:07:30.28\00:07:33.25 the need of every day of our life, 00:07:33.28\00:07:36.02 living a day of total dependence on God. 00:07:36.05\00:07:38.62 Amen. 00:07:38.65\00:07:39.99 You know, I was thinking, Dan, 00:07:40.06\00:07:41.39 if you turn on the television or radio, news, 00:07:41.42\00:07:44.06 everywhere, people are basically looking 00:07:44.13\00:07:46.80 at two ramifications of this, 00:07:46.83\00:07:48.56 and they're looking at the physical, 00:07:48.60\00:07:50.60 they're looking at the political. 00:07:50.67\00:07:52.07 That's right. You know? 00:07:52.10\00:07:53.44 But today, we want to look at, of course, the physical 00:07:53.47\00:07:55.84 but the spiritual. 00:07:55.87\00:07:57.24 So thank you, Mark and Pastor John, 00:07:57.31\00:07:59.11 and for our doctors that we have on the day 00:07:59.14\00:08:01.38 because there's hope in a world 00:08:01.41\00:08:04.08 that seems like everything is, 00:08:04.15\00:08:06.51 you know, when people are so confused, 00:08:06.55\00:08:08.18 it's good to know that we serve a God 00:08:08.22\00:08:10.59 that's big enough that He can solve any problem, 00:08:10.62\00:08:13.39 small enough to live within our hearts. 00:08:13.46\00:08:15.46 And today, that He has the answer, 00:08:15.49\00:08:17.23 and is the only answer 00:08:17.26\00:08:18.69 for this world's problems today. 00:08:18.73\00:08:20.53 John, a couple comments before we go to the doctors. 00:08:20.60\00:08:23.47 Well, Habakkuk 2 brings another picture 00:08:23.50\00:08:26.43 to this pandemic. 00:08:26.47\00:08:28.50 When it began in December of 2019, 00:08:28.54\00:08:32.34 there was no knowledge that it even existed. 00:08:32.37\00:08:35.61 And I saw the parallel there too, 00:08:35.64\00:08:37.35 when sin had a beginning point. 00:08:37.38\00:08:40.52 But then as it began to spread, sin affected all humanity. 00:08:40.55\00:08:45.35 Obviously, it began with a single person, 00:08:45.39\00:08:48.12 well sin began with a single person. 00:08:48.16\00:08:50.43 But the good news as we look at it today, 00:08:50.46\00:08:53.40 right now, the concern is that 00:08:53.43\00:08:55.10 where is it affecting the world? 00:08:55.13\00:08:57.07 How is the world being affected by it? 00:08:57.10\00:08:58.90 Well, Habakkuk 2:14, 00:08:58.93\00:09:01.94 "For the earth will be filled 00:09:01.97\00:09:03.91 with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, 00:09:03.94\00:09:06.54 as the waters cover the sea." 00:09:06.57\00:09:08.51 So right now, we're looking at this spreading 00:09:08.54\00:09:10.28 from neighborhood to community, to continent. 00:09:10.35\00:09:14.72 And now we look at a worldwide concern, 00:09:14.75\00:09:16.52 now the pandemic. 00:09:16.55\00:09:18.15 The good news that I'd like to communicate 00:09:18.19\00:09:20.26 out of all of this, 00:09:20.29\00:09:21.62 is there's something that's going to spread 00:09:21.66\00:09:23.29 and cover the world even larger than the pandemic. 00:09:23.32\00:09:26.83 And that is the three angels' messages. 00:09:26.90\00:09:28.23 That's right. 00:09:28.26\00:09:29.60 The gospel to get the world ready. 00:09:29.63\00:09:31.03 This is an indication of how near we are, 00:09:31.07\00:09:33.54 an uncertain world has passed, Mark Finley pointed out. 00:09:33.57\00:09:36.24 So in the midst of all of this uncertainty, 00:09:36.27\00:09:39.14 God already had an answer to the virus of sin, 00:09:39.17\00:09:44.05 and that is His righteousness. 00:09:44.08\00:09:46.45 So while people are filled with fear, 00:09:46.48\00:09:49.22 the best is yet to come. 00:09:49.25\00:09:50.99 We'll talk about that as we go on. 00:09:51.02\00:09:52.62 So the earth will be filled with knowledge of the Lord, 00:09:52.65\00:09:56.09 more than the COVID virus. 00:09:56.12\00:09:58.26 And that's the good news in the midst of bad news. 00:09:58.29\00:10:00.63 Amen. Very good news. 00:10:00.70\00:10:02.66 And I'm wondering, Dr. Nedley, 00:10:02.70\00:10:05.00 if we can ask you to respond to us, 00:10:05.03\00:10:07.37 to the viewers of 3ABN right now, and tell us... 00:10:07.44\00:10:10.81 I've read some things that say this is a flu. 00:10:10.84\00:10:13.68 I've read some other things in the media 00:10:13.71\00:10:15.41 that say it's really not a flu. 00:10:15.44\00:10:17.18 Would you describe for us 00:10:17.25\00:10:19.08 what the COVID-19 coronavirus really is medically? 00:10:19.11\00:10:24.82 Well, coronavirus, 00:10:24.85\00:10:26.76 before it coursed out was known to physicians as a common cold. 00:10:26.79\00:10:32.33 And so the coronavirus even today, 00:10:32.36\00:10:35.73 this novel coronavirus, 00:10:35.76\00:10:38.00 80% of the time 00:10:38.03\00:10:39.40 it's just going to cause cold like symptoms 00:10:39.43\00:10:44.21 or maybe no symptoms at all 00:10:44.24\00:10:46.07 if you have a good immune system. 00:10:46.11\00:10:48.51 If your immune system is compromised 00:10:48.54\00:10:50.95 or it's not great, 00:10:50.98\00:10:52.31 you are at high risk of developing pneumonia 00:10:52.35\00:10:56.48 with this COVID-19 coronavirus. 00:10:56.52\00:11:00.09 And that pneumonia can occur 00:11:00.16\00:11:01.92 and as much as 20% of individuals who contract it, 00:11:01.96\00:11:05.99 and then a small percentage of those with pneumonia 00:11:06.03\00:11:09.46 will go into what's called 00:11:09.50\00:11:11.10 acute respiratory distress syndrome. 00:11:11.13\00:11:14.04 That's where they need to be put 00:11:14.07\00:11:15.44 on high pressured ventilation to try to save their life. 00:11:15.47\00:11:19.11 And some of those are dying. 00:11:19.14\00:11:22.41 And so this is the concern now. 00:11:22.44\00:11:24.88 Coronavirus never caused pneumonia, 00:11:24.91\00:11:27.52 just caused cold before, 00:11:27.55\00:11:29.45 but this COVID-19 variant is picking off individuals 00:11:29.48\00:11:33.96 whose immune systems are compromised 00:11:33.99\00:11:36.52 and causing that premature death. 00:11:36.56\00:11:39.83 Okay. 00:11:39.86\00:11:41.20 Now I want to go over to Dr. Wes Youngberg now 00:11:41.23\00:11:43.87 because, Dr. Youngberg, 00:11:43.90\00:11:45.23 you and I have talked in the past about the pandemic 00:11:45.27\00:11:48.00 and Pastor John mentioned the pandemic element of this. 00:11:48.04\00:11:51.44 This started back in Jan or in December actually, 00:11:51.47\00:11:54.51 and in epidemiology, the public health world, 00:11:54.54\00:11:57.45 which is part of the world that you live in, 00:11:57.48\00:11:59.91 things go in geometric proportions sometimes. 00:11:59.95\00:12:03.15 Give us a little idea of where this has come from 00:12:03.18\00:12:06.05 and where it might be going. 00:12:06.09\00:12:08.52 Yes, Dan. 00:12:08.56\00:12:09.89 We were warned back in 00:12:09.92\00:12:14.10 on January the 31st 00:12:14.13\00:12:15.90 in the medical journal Lancet, 00:12:15.93\00:12:18.53 where the key authors from University of Hong Kong, 00:12:18.57\00:12:22.84 Dr. Gabriel Leung and other key faculty 00:12:22.87\00:12:26.68 and medical professors that are participating 00:12:26.71\00:12:30.15 in the WHO collaborating research centers, 00:12:30.18\00:12:33.42 they basically published way back on January the 31st 00:12:33.45\00:12:37.42 that this was going to go pandemic 00:12:37.49\00:12:39.95 because of the fact 00:12:39.99\00:12:43.09 that it was just spreading so rapidly. 00:12:43.12\00:12:45.66 The key issue we still keep hearing, 00:12:45.69\00:12:49.26 some of my own colleagues that I respect greatly 00:12:49.30\00:12:52.63 are still confusing this 00:12:52.67\00:12:54.54 in terms of the severity with the flu. 00:12:54.57\00:12:57.31 It is true that to date, 00:12:57.34\00:12:59.61 in the United States and even the world, 00:12:59.64\00:13:01.88 more people have died from the seasonal flu, 00:13:01.91\00:13:05.38 than from COVID-19. 00:13:05.41\00:13:06.95 But that is going to change. 00:13:07.02\00:13:09.02 If we know anything about COVID-19 00:13:09.05\00:13:11.45 based on the mathematic modeling 00:13:11.49\00:13:14.09 and the projections is that that will change definitively. 00:13:14.16\00:13:18.19 The flu has what we call an R0 or an infectivity, 00:13:18.23\00:13:23.87 a basic reproduction number of how many people 00:13:23.90\00:13:27.64 if I'm infected, 00:13:27.67\00:13:29.00 I will end up infecting as well. 00:13:29.04\00:13:31.11 The flu only has an R0 of 1.28 or 1.3, 00:13:31.14\00:13:35.34 meaning if I'm infected with the flu, 00:13:35.38\00:13:38.35 I'll end up infecting one in a third other person 00:13:38.38\00:13:41.18 and then that gradually spread throughout society. 00:13:41.22\00:13:44.89 The COVID-19 has an R0 of minimum of 2.2, 00:13:44.92\00:13:49.89 which is dramatically elevated, 00:13:49.92\00:13:53.80 but some projections go up as high as 6.7. 00:13:53.83\00:13:57.17 So this is very serious, 00:13:57.20\00:13:59.50 and we need to take this very seriously. 00:13:59.53\00:14:02.30 That's why the NBA on March 11 canceled all games. 00:14:02.34\00:14:08.11 That's why Pioneer Memorial Church, 00:14:08.14\00:14:11.25 as of March 12 has canceled 00:14:11.28\00:14:15.78 all in-person church services, 00:14:15.82\00:14:18.39 everything is going live in terms of online 00:14:18.42\00:14:22.09 like what we're doing right now. 00:14:22.12\00:14:24.76 The State of Michigan has declared medical emergency 00:14:24.79\00:14:30.17 and has basically told 00:14:30.20\00:14:31.93 all educational institutions and churches 00:14:31.97\00:14:35.80 that they should not be meeting in large groups. 00:14:35.84\00:14:39.94 And, you know, we've been saying this 00:14:39.97\00:14:42.51 for over six weeks in our presentations, Dan. 00:14:42.54\00:14:44.95 Yes. 00:14:44.98\00:14:46.31 And just a lot of people haven't been listening to this. 00:14:46.35\00:14:48.65 This is really, really serious. 00:14:48.68\00:14:50.79 Our churches should not be meeting 00:14:50.82\00:14:53.12 person to person right now. 00:14:53.15\00:14:54.49 It should all be going live. 00:14:54.52\00:14:56.83 If we don't make those decisions ourselves, 00:14:56.86\00:14:59.63 the government is going to eventually make them for us. 00:14:59.66\00:15:02.80 But in the meantime, 00:15:02.83\00:15:04.43 if we don't make those decisions, 00:15:04.47\00:15:07.04 people are going to get sick needlessly, 00:15:07.07\00:15:10.41 and many people will die needlessly. 00:15:10.44\00:15:12.94 This is a very, very critical issue. 00:15:12.97\00:15:15.01 And before I take questions, 00:15:15.04\00:15:16.95 the Harvard and Los Alamos National Laboratory 00:15:16.98\00:15:21.15 have been saying since late January, 00:15:21.18\00:15:26.22 early to mid-February, 00:15:26.25\00:15:28.66 that they're mathematic modelers, 00:15:28.69\00:15:31.23 with the best epidemiologists in the world 00:15:31.26\00:15:33.90 that understand how to project 00:15:33.93\00:15:35.86 or forecast what is to come very accurately. 00:15:35.90\00:15:39.83 They're saying that anywhere between 40% and 70% 00:15:39.87\00:15:44.21 of the world's entire population 00:15:44.24\00:15:46.98 will be infected, 00:15:47.01\00:15:48.38 not just exposed, but actually infected. 00:15:48.41\00:15:51.35 Now as Dr. Nedley has been saying, 00:15:51.38\00:15:54.02 we know that about 80% maybe even 85% of people 00:15:54.05\00:15:58.35 who get infected will either not know it, 00:15:58.39\00:16:01.66 and therefore be spreading it to other people, 00:16:01.69\00:16:04.46 or they will get mildly sick like kind of a normal 00:16:04.49\00:16:08.06 or mild to moderate flu symptoms 00:16:08.10\00:16:10.30 and then get over it. 00:16:10.37\00:16:12.13 The problem is that they're infecting people, okay? 00:16:12.17\00:16:15.07 So back to the issue with the flu, 00:16:15.10\00:16:17.61 the flu has a case fatality rate 00:16:17.64\00:16:21.51 of 0.1%. 00:16:21.54\00:16:24.15 It's very low, and even that low percentage 00:16:24.18\00:16:27.35 accounts for anywhere between 3,000 and 60,000 00:16:27.42\00:16:31.55 or more deaths in the United States every year 00:16:31.59\00:16:35.22 from the seasonal flu, okay? 00:16:35.26\00:16:37.66 But we should not confuse 00:16:37.69\00:16:40.40 what is about to happen with this 00:16:40.43\00:16:42.76 because with COVID-19, 00:16:42.80\00:16:45.60 the case fatality rate at minimum is 1%, 00:16:45.63\00:16:49.77 which is Dr. Anthony Fauci said on March 11, 00:16:49.80\00:16:55.71 10 times more deadly than the flu. 00:16:55.74\00:16:59.45 That's minimum, 00:16:59.48\00:17:00.82 that's the most conservative estimate possible. 00:17:00.85\00:17:04.32 Other studies and reports are coming out 00:17:04.35\00:17:07.29 that COVID-19 is at least 20 times more deadly. 00:17:07.36\00:17:12.96 In other words, the case fatality rate 00:17:12.99\00:17:14.90 is 20 times worse 00:17:14.93\00:17:16.53 than the seasonal flu and others. 00:17:16.56\00:17:19.47 And once the hospital systems 00:17:19.50\00:17:21.17 are no longer able to take care of patients, 00:17:21.20\00:17:24.84 that case fatality rate may go up dramatically, 00:17:24.87\00:17:29.24 meaning it's about 50 times more deadly than the flu. 00:17:29.28\00:17:32.68 So if you've been kind of dismissive 00:17:32.71\00:17:36.99 about the potential impact of COVID-19, in our country, 00:17:37.02\00:17:42.19 and in our personal lives, this is the time to act. 00:17:42.22\00:17:45.99 This is the time to wake up. 00:17:46.03\00:17:48.20 Just three weeks ago, 00:17:48.23\00:17:49.56 I did a sermon on the unpreparedness, 00:17:49.60\00:17:52.43 a sermon that was entitled, 00:17:52.47\00:17:54.80 "Wellness implications of the parable 00:17:54.84\00:17:58.47 of the ten virgins." 00:17:58.51\00:18:00.48 The questions are, 00:18:00.51\00:18:01.84 are we part of the five foolish virgins? 00:18:01.88\00:18:05.68 Or are we part of the five wise virgins?" 00:18:05.71\00:18:09.05 Remember, all of them weren't really well prepared. 00:18:09.08\00:18:11.95 But the ones that were wise 00:18:11.99\00:18:13.56 were the ones that acted quickly 00:18:13.59\00:18:15.52 and had some preparation before. 00:18:15.56\00:18:18.33 Well, I think that obviously, 00:18:18.36\00:18:21.00 one aspect for me is preparation 00:18:21.03\00:18:22.93 and trying to avoid getting it. 00:18:22.96\00:18:24.53 Danny, I don't think you want this, do you? 00:18:24.57\00:18:26.07 No, absolutely no. 00:18:26.10\00:18:27.44 You know, I don't think any of us would want that. 00:18:27.47\00:18:28.87 So we want to try to keep from getting it. 00:18:28.90\00:18:31.01 And I guess, Dr. Nedley, let me go to you next, 00:18:31.04\00:18:33.68 what would you say to the people 00:18:33.71\00:18:35.71 that are watching this and to us 00:18:35.74\00:18:37.58 that we should do to try 00:18:37.65\00:18:38.98 to prevent getting this disease? 00:18:39.01\00:18:40.52 And then we'll talk about after that would be 00:18:40.55\00:18:42.68 once you get it, then what? 00:18:42.72\00:18:44.29 Because while it's good 00:18:44.32\00:18:45.99 and they're saying people don't go to church 00:18:46.02\00:18:48.66 or, you know, do go online, 00:18:48.69\00:18:50.46 but we have all of our healthcare people. 00:18:50.53\00:18:52.56 We have people in traveling so many places, 00:18:52.59\00:18:55.36 we do not have that option. 00:18:55.40\00:18:58.40 So I think what you're asking is for 00:18:58.43\00:19:01.27 if you're in that number, and you've got to be there, 00:19:01.30\00:19:04.51 what can we do to prevent 00:19:04.54\00:19:07.31 or at least take the risk down tremendously? 00:19:07.38\00:19:09.81 That's right. 00:19:09.84\00:19:11.18 And then we'll talk in a minute about what to do in ministry. 00:19:11.21\00:19:13.82 Yes. But, Dr. Nedley. 00:19:13.85\00:19:16.08 Yes, some people are fearful. 00:19:16.12\00:19:18.15 For instance, if they're on an airplane, 00:19:18.19\00:19:20.36 and one person is infected, 00:19:20.39\00:19:22.69 the entire airplane is going down 00:19:22.72\00:19:25.06 and going to get infected, 00:19:25.09\00:19:27.90 all the passengers that's actually not true. 00:19:27.93\00:19:31.03 With the systems that we have in our aircraft, 00:19:31.07\00:19:33.44 it's only those within a six foot radius 00:19:33.47\00:19:36.60 of the person that's infected. 00:19:36.64\00:19:38.84 And so this is why they're trying 00:19:38.87\00:19:40.91 to prevent the gathering together 00:19:40.98\00:19:44.25 in tight spaces, 00:19:44.28\00:19:47.22 an individual who is infected. 00:19:47.25\00:19:49.78 So that six-foot radius is pretty clear. 00:19:49.82\00:19:52.35 If you're not within six feet, 00:19:52.39\00:19:54.69 and the person isn't actively, you know, coughing, 00:19:54.72\00:19:59.03 you're going to be safe. 00:19:59.06\00:20:01.23 But also a big way of transmission 00:20:01.26\00:20:04.40 is through your hands. 00:20:04.43\00:20:06.74 And if someone coughs, and it gets on its surface, 00:20:06.77\00:20:12.21 and then you touch that surface, 00:20:12.24\00:20:13.98 and you go to your mouth or your face, 00:20:14.01\00:20:17.35 you're very likely to get infected. 00:20:17.38\00:20:19.51 And so we recommend 00:20:19.55\00:20:20.92 before you touch your mouth or your face, 00:20:20.95\00:20:24.65 that you wash your hands immediately before that 00:20:24.69\00:20:27.92 or at least use hand sanitizer. 00:20:27.96\00:20:30.53 It turns out the old fashioned 00:20:30.56\00:20:32.16 washing of the hands with soap and water 00:20:32.19\00:20:34.70 is actually a little better than the hand sanitizer 00:20:34.73\00:20:37.67 because the hand sanitizer can't get rid of the mucus 00:20:37.70\00:20:41.40 that's surrounding that virus 00:20:41.44\00:20:43.20 that might come from a cough as well. 00:20:43.24\00:20:46.14 And so the best method 00:20:46.17\00:20:48.04 is just old-fashioned soap and water, 00:20:48.08\00:20:50.08 washing your hands thoroughly. 00:20:50.15\00:20:52.68 But if that's not around, 00:20:52.71\00:20:54.48 the hand sanitizer is the next best thing 00:20:54.52\00:20:58.09 and even here at Weimar Institute, 00:20:58.12\00:21:03.32 which by the way Weimar has not closed down, 00:21:03.36\00:21:06.26 we'll tell you why that's the case. 00:21:06.29\00:21:08.76 Weimar is still functioning and will continue to function 00:21:08.80\00:21:14.54 as long as is practical 00:21:14.57\00:21:16.30 or unless the government actually tells us we can't. 00:21:16.34\00:21:19.94 But Weimar is probably the safest place 00:21:19.97\00:21:22.11 on planet earth 00:21:22.14\00:21:23.48 if you end up getting COVID-19 to recover from it. 00:21:23.55\00:21:28.32 And so this is something we'll get into later. 00:21:28.35\00:21:32.59 But nonetheless, in the serving line, 00:21:32.62\00:21:35.22 we're having people at the end of the serving line, 00:21:35.26\00:21:38.36 wash their hands again 00:21:38.39\00:21:41.23 because they might touch some surfaces 00:21:41.26\00:21:43.23 in that whole process of serving 00:21:43.26\00:21:45.47 and just to prevent the spread. 00:21:45.50\00:21:50.04 And so it gets back 00:21:50.11\00:21:51.87 into that water principle of new start. 00:21:51.91\00:21:54.28 And of course, that was there in the Bible as well, 00:21:54.31\00:21:57.05 regarding the avoiding of contamination 00:21:57.08\00:22:02.52 through cleanliness and washing as we get into, 00:22:02.55\00:22:07.19 as we put our hands towards where mucous membranes are at 00:22:07.26\00:22:11.49 and where this can get into the cells of our body. 00:22:11.53\00:22:16.60 Okay, I want to share a little idea 00:22:16.80\00:22:19.40 talking about the face. 00:22:19.43\00:22:20.77 And Dr. Youngberg turned me on to this idea, 00:22:20.84\00:22:23.07 and I want to show something. 00:22:23.10\00:22:24.97 This is a little bottle of liquid iodine forte. 00:22:25.01\00:22:28.51 And, Dr. Youngberg, 00:22:28.54\00:22:29.88 you can talk about this in a minute, 00:22:29.91\00:22:31.25 but this, 00:22:31.28\00:22:32.61 we put a little sprayer on this bottle, 00:22:32.65\00:22:34.02 and it has iodine, 00:22:34.05\00:22:35.38 which of course, is a great antiviral in stuff. 00:22:35.42\00:22:40.16 But one of the things Dr. Youngberg taught me to do 00:22:40.19\00:22:41.89 is to spray this up in the air above me 00:22:41.92\00:22:44.49 and let it come down on my face. 00:22:44.53\00:22:46.70 And then get into my eyes. 00:22:46.73\00:22:48.06 You want some, Danny? I just take some of yours. 00:22:48.10\00:22:49.80 Okay. 00:22:49.83\00:22:51.73 So let's talk about this aspect. 00:22:51.77\00:22:54.60 This is kind of a unique little simple thing 00:22:54.64\00:22:56.34 that can be done. 00:22:56.37\00:22:57.71 That helps prevent like if you touch your face, 00:22:57.74\00:22:59.51 or you get it on your face, the simple use of iodine. 00:22:59.54\00:23:02.84 In 2009, Dr. David Derry, an MD, PhD, 00:23:02.88\00:23:08.62 who was passionate about getting the word out 00:23:08.65\00:23:13.15 that iodine is one of the world's best antivirals 00:23:13.19\00:23:18.06 and antimicrobials. 00:23:18.09\00:23:20.70 And many people who succumb to COVID-19 00:23:20.73\00:23:24.43 or any virus for that matter, 00:23:24.47\00:23:27.14 also end up suffering bacterial infections 00:23:27.17\00:23:30.24 as secondary infection. 00:23:30.31\00:23:31.67 And so one of the nice things about iodine 00:23:31.71\00:23:34.11 is that it actually is very broad spectrum 00:23:34.18\00:23:36.95 and bacteria or fungi 00:23:36.98\00:23:39.21 don't have the opportunity to become resistant to iodine. 00:23:39.25\00:23:42.72 Well, in 2009, Dr. David Derry published a review article 00:23:42.75\00:23:47.69 in the medical journal thyroid science 00:23:47.72\00:23:50.53 that basically highlighted 00:23:50.56\00:23:53.53 how to use iodine medically 00:23:53.60\00:23:57.60 to greatly mitigate the challenges 00:23:57.63\00:24:01.44 with very deadly virus, the various, 00:24:01.47\00:24:06.88 you know, little epidemics and pandemics 00:24:06.91\00:24:09.51 that we've had up to date. 00:24:09.54\00:24:11.38 Of course, this could very well be the biggest one. 00:24:11.41\00:24:16.55 Even more so than the Spanish flu 00:24:16.58\00:24:18.85 some are believe in, 00:24:18.89\00:24:20.26 I presently believe that it may actually end up 00:24:20.29\00:24:23.73 being worse based on Los Alamos National Laboratory and others, 00:24:23.76\00:24:27.60 it could very easily lead to more deaths 00:24:27.63\00:24:30.47 than even the Spanish flu epidemic 00:24:30.50\00:24:32.70 of 1918 and 1919. 00:24:32.73\00:24:35.37 So the iodine is... 00:24:35.40\00:24:37.81 The key 00:24:37.84\00:24:39.17 is that there's different types of iodine, okay? 00:24:39.21\00:24:41.98 And so we're using, what you're using right there, 00:24:42.01\00:24:45.08 Dan, is a potassium iodide, 00:24:45.11\00:24:48.58 very dilute solution of 150 micrograms per drop. 00:24:48.62\00:24:53.59 And so with every squirt of that, 00:24:53.66\00:24:55.62 that you can either squirt it up 00:24:55.66\00:24:58.59 into your nostrils or 00:24:58.63\00:25:02.26 use as into your lungs just by breathing it in, 00:25:02.30\00:25:05.47 squirting it into your mouth and breathing it in. 00:25:05.50\00:25:07.64 It helps kill viruses, 00:25:07.67\00:25:09.17 and it helps become an antiviral shield. 00:25:09.20\00:25:13.71 But they're the most common forms of iodine 00:25:13.78\00:25:17.15 on the market are Lugol's 2% or sometimes 5%. 00:25:17.18\00:25:21.35 You probably don't want to spray 00:25:21.38\00:25:22.72 that on to your eyes or... 00:25:22.75\00:25:26.76 Because it's much more irritating. 00:25:26.79\00:25:28.46 So you have to use a dilute form for the purposes 00:25:28.49\00:25:31.66 that you just demonstrated. 00:25:31.69\00:25:33.50 But Dr. David Derry also called 00:25:33.53\00:25:35.90 for increasing the dose of regular iodine 00:25:35.93\00:25:39.77 and potassium iodide combinations 00:25:39.80\00:25:42.90 found in Lugol's for instance, 00:25:42.94\00:25:45.21 as a protection against viruses. 00:25:45.24\00:25:49.51 Of course, Dr. Nedley and others have been talking 00:25:49.54\00:25:53.08 about other very valuable strategies, 00:25:53.11\00:25:55.62 including zinc lozenges 00:25:55.65\00:25:57.49 and other ways to optimize the immune system. 00:25:57.52\00:26:00.96 But primarily, the issues have to deal 00:26:00.99\00:26:04.66 with the lifestyle medicine strategies, 00:26:04.69\00:26:06.93 the natural remedies. 00:26:07.00\00:26:09.03 The information that we have learned 00:26:09.06\00:26:12.13 over the past century 00:26:12.17\00:26:14.24 from the amazing book called Ministry of Healing, 00:26:14.27\00:26:16.81 that's what gave me the passion 00:26:16.84\00:26:18.61 to become a lifestyle medicine doctor 00:26:18.64\00:26:20.91 is reading the works of Ellen White 00:26:20.98\00:26:23.45 and the health message 00:26:23.48\00:26:26.25 of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, 00:26:26.28\00:26:27.75 which is designed to spread to the world 00:26:27.78\00:26:30.32 to decrease morbidity and mortality 00:26:30.39\00:26:33.49 to decrease sickness and to decrease the death rate. 00:26:33.56\00:26:37.66 I want to follow up, 00:26:37.69\00:26:39.23 you kind of did a nice little transition. 00:26:39.26\00:26:40.93 You mentioned Spanish flu there, Dr. Youngberg. 00:26:40.96\00:26:44.63 And I was thinking about the situation 00:26:44.67\00:26:47.37 that took place in Minnesota and, Dr. Nedley, 00:26:47.44\00:26:50.11 it makes me think of Weimar when I look at this. 00:26:50.14\00:26:53.38 But in 1918, 00:26:53.41\00:26:55.04 I have in my hand a copy of the Northern Union Reaper, 00:26:55.08\00:26:58.05 which was the Adventist union paper, back in 1918, 00:26:58.08\00:27:03.08 right in the heart of the Spanish flu. 00:27:03.12\00:27:05.19 There's a fascinating story here 00:27:05.22\00:27:06.96 that actually Dr. Youngberg brought to my attention 00:27:06.99\00:27:09.89 several weeks ago, 00:27:09.92\00:27:11.26 where we had a group of 120 individuals 00:27:11.29\00:27:14.56 that were part 00:27:14.60\00:27:15.93 of the Scandinavian seminary training 00:27:15.96\00:27:17.50 who were training pastors 00:27:17.57\00:27:19.20 in just west of Minneapolis, Minnesota, 00:27:19.23\00:27:22.67 place where today we actually have a Maplewood Academy, 00:27:22.70\00:27:25.67 on that same grounds. 00:27:25.71\00:27:27.08 They had a large five-storied building 00:27:27.11\00:27:28.68 with 120 people living, eating, and going to school, 00:27:28.71\00:27:32.78 that's one building. 00:27:32.81\00:27:34.22 And 90 of those 120 people 00:27:34.25\00:27:38.02 got the Spanish flu. 00:27:38.05\00:27:40.39 But the beautiful thing 00:27:40.46\00:27:41.79 this article talks about Dr. Frederick Shepherd, 00:27:41.82\00:27:43.63 the health officer for the Hutchinson city, 00:27:43.66\00:27:46.26 reported in the newspaper 00:27:46.29\00:27:47.63 which was reprinted in the Adventist paper 00:27:47.66\00:27:50.20 that not one single person died of the Spanish flu. 00:27:50.27\00:27:55.44 That was before there was penicillin, 00:27:55.47\00:27:57.11 before there was antibiotics, 00:27:57.14\00:27:59.04 it was before all those things but Dr. H.E. Larson, 00:27:59.07\00:28:01.91 who is a graduate physician 00:28:01.94\00:28:03.55 that obviously knew how to use natural remedies, 00:28:03.58\00:28:06.18 treated all 90 of those with a staff of people 00:28:06.21\00:28:10.02 that were there, and not one person died 00:28:10.09\00:28:12.02 and they were taking note of this. 00:28:12.05\00:28:13.66 So I'm thinking, Dr. Nedley, 00:28:13.69\00:28:16.29 how would we utilize the eight natural remedies 00:28:16.32\00:28:20.30 or someone who actually gets this? 00:28:20.33\00:28:24.17 Well, and that's a very good question 00:28:24.20\00:28:26.60 because if what Dr. Youngberg said is correct 00:28:26.63\00:28:30.34 that 40% to 70% of humanity is going to end up 00:28:30.41\00:28:34.08 getting this COVID-19, 00:28:34.11\00:28:36.08 which actually could be true 00:28:36.11\00:28:37.95 because this is why no political organization 00:28:37.98\00:28:41.12 can stop it spread. 00:28:41.15\00:28:43.28 We can't really quarantine this thing 00:28:43.32\00:28:45.62 to the point where it won't spread 00:28:45.65\00:28:48.72 because unlike Ebola and SARS, 00:28:48.76\00:28:52.06 where virtually everybody got sick, 00:28:52.09\00:28:54.30 when you have 80% of people not getting sick 00:28:54.33\00:28:57.07 or very little sickness, 00:28:57.10\00:28:58.63 in other words, you're not going to seek care, 00:28:58.67\00:29:00.67 those people are going to go out and infect others. 00:29:00.74\00:29:03.51 And by the way, 00:29:03.54\00:29:04.87 that's why the flu can't be completely contained either 00:29:04.91\00:29:07.08 because a lot of people have healthy immune systems 00:29:07.11\00:29:09.61 and they get the flu, 00:29:09.64\00:29:10.98 but they develop zero symptoms, 00:29:11.01\00:29:12.81 and they think they haven't had it, 00:29:12.85\00:29:14.58 but their immune system fought it off. 00:29:14.62\00:29:16.89 And so this is where NEWSTART principles 00:29:16.92\00:29:19.75 become very important 00:29:19.79\00:29:22.02 because NEWSTART actually is a great immune booster, 00:29:22.06\00:29:27.80 and one that can actually put us 00:29:27.83\00:29:29.80 into this 80% category instead of the 20% 00:29:29.83\00:29:33.84 that get really sick. 00:29:33.87\00:29:35.60 And I think that's what was happening there 00:29:35.64\00:29:37.41 in Hutchinson 00:29:37.44\00:29:38.77 is that so many people were getting very sick 00:29:38.81\00:29:41.01 with the Spanish flu, 00:29:41.04\00:29:42.48 and these people didn't get very sick. 00:29:42.51\00:29:44.18 So let's go through that acronym a little bit. 00:29:44.25\00:29:47.32 The N is nutrition, 00:29:47.35\00:29:49.05 we want to have good antioxidants. 00:29:49.08\00:29:52.22 Antioxidants are great for the immune system, 00:29:52.25\00:29:55.66 and the top five antioxidant vegetables are broccoli, 00:29:55.69\00:29:59.63 Brussels sprouts, spinach, kale, garlic is number one. 00:29:59.66\00:30:03.47 And garlic actually has antiviral properties. 00:30:03.50\00:30:07.04 We also want to have the antioxidant fruits. 00:30:07.07\00:30:10.11 Those are your berries, primarily plums, 00:30:10.14\00:30:12.17 or the whole fruit. 00:30:12.21\00:30:13.58 That's not a berry that has the highest antioxidants 00:30:13.61\00:30:16.75 and those, you know, plums are pretty inexpensive. 00:30:16.78\00:30:21.18 And then we also want to avoid sugar 00:30:21.22\00:30:24.65 and have sugar out of our diet as well as free oils. 00:30:24.69\00:30:29.39 And then there may be some additional things 00:30:29.42\00:30:31.39 if you happen to mess up 00:30:31.43\00:30:32.76 and put something towards your face or mouth 00:30:32.79\00:30:35.86 before washing your hands 00:30:35.90\00:30:37.83 that would be the time for the zinc lozenge 00:30:37.87\00:30:39.90 because zinc actually stops 00:30:39.93\00:30:41.70 the replication of this virus on contact. 00:30:41.74\00:30:44.94 And so those zinc lozenges can come in, 00:30:44.97\00:30:47.61 and then N-acetylcysteine, 00:30:47.64\00:30:50.35 which is something that really boosts our immune system, 00:30:50.38\00:30:53.11 very inexpensive. 00:30:53.15\00:30:54.48 There was a nice randomized controlled trial 00:30:54.52\00:30:57.09 showing that three out of four people 00:30:57.12\00:31:01.62 that were taking NAC, 00:31:01.66\00:31:03.93 developed zero symptoms of the flu, 00:31:03.96\00:31:07.30 and that was a randomized controlled trial 00:31:07.33\00:31:10.40 and those not taking NAC, 00:31:10.47\00:31:12.20 the vast majority of them develop symptoms. 00:31:12.23\00:31:14.87 And because of the similarities here 00:31:14.90\00:31:16.91 we think the NAC will also be very immune 00:31:16.94\00:31:20.31 enhancing to anyone even with the COVID-19 virus. 00:31:20.38\00:31:25.85 Exercise, aerobic exercise, outdoors, 00:31:25.88\00:31:29.45 don't, you know, a lot of people think 00:31:29.48\00:31:31.09 they need to stay indoors with this thing. 00:31:31.12\00:31:33.86 There's virtually no transmission outside 00:31:33.89\00:31:37.13 and particularly we're exercising in the open air. 00:31:37.16\00:31:40.23 This is a very safe environment to be in, 00:31:40.30\00:31:43.37 and it will boost our immune system. 00:31:43.40\00:31:45.30 In regards to water hydrotherapy, 00:31:45.33\00:31:47.80 this is what they used in the in the seminary 00:31:47.84\00:31:50.91 was hydrotherapy and contrast therapy 00:31:50.94\00:31:54.31 where you do the hot and the cold 00:31:54.34\00:31:56.28 and the fomentations can be very immune enhancing, 00:31:56.31\00:32:00.02 and it can also be used as a treatment. 00:32:00.05\00:32:02.98 This is why at Weimar where we're set up 00:32:03.02\00:32:04.95 for this hydrotherapy sort of thing. 00:32:04.99\00:32:07.59 This could be a great place for people 00:32:07.66\00:32:10.03 that are suffering 00:32:10.06\00:32:11.39 some of the more severe complications 00:32:11.43\00:32:12.93 of COVID-19. 00:32:12.96\00:32:15.40 Sunlight, of course, is antiviral, 00:32:15.43\00:32:17.70 and it helps our vitamin D levels 00:32:17.73\00:32:19.77 which help our immune system, that's the S in NEWSTAR. 00:32:19.80\00:32:23.24 T is temperance, if we're using alcohol, 00:32:23.27\00:32:25.91 and this is why it's probably good. 00:32:25.94\00:32:27.28 They suspended the NBA 00:32:27.31\00:32:28.74 because you have thousands of people 00:32:28.78\00:32:30.88 badly in need of exercise, 00:32:30.95\00:32:32.91 watching about 10 people badly in need of rest. 00:32:32.95\00:32:36.35 But those people badly in need of exercise are also drinking. 00:32:36.38\00:32:40.26 And when you have alcohol on board at the time 00:32:40.29\00:32:42.62 you get this virus, it replicates it rapidly, 00:32:42.66\00:32:46.19 and it does suppress the immune system. 00:32:46.23\00:32:49.63 And then you have the fresh air, of course, 00:32:49.66\00:32:52.77 which will be very helpful, adequate rest, 00:32:52.80\00:32:55.40 we know that sleep is very important 00:32:55.44\00:32:57.61 for the immune system and getting that adequate rest. 00:32:57.64\00:33:00.88 And then that final T is also important. 00:33:00.91\00:33:03.68 Those who trust in God and don't panic 00:33:03.75\00:33:06.58 actually are going to have a better immune system. 00:33:06.61\00:33:09.92 So we don't want this pandemic to be a panic demic, 00:33:09.95\00:33:14.26 we want it to be one that we can trust God 00:33:14.29\00:33:19.39 that He will do what's best for us 00:33:19.43\00:33:21.13 and also help us by His grace 00:33:21.16\00:33:23.06 to follow these consistent NEWSTART principles 00:33:23.10\00:33:25.87 in our life. 00:33:25.90\00:33:27.24 And I don't think we really need to worry about it 00:33:27.27\00:33:29.37 if we're doing those things and if we're healthy. 00:33:29.40\00:33:32.61 I want to go to Pastor Finley for a moment. 00:33:32.64\00:33:36.61 Dr. Youngberg kind of gave a nice transition to trust 00:33:36.64\00:33:39.78 and the spiritual elements. 00:33:39.81\00:33:41.15 If someone is watching this and they're thinking, 00:33:41.18\00:33:43.22 "Oh, no, I don't want to get this. 00:33:43.25\00:33:45.62 What if I do?" 00:33:45.65\00:33:46.99 And we know that maybe almost everyone will. 00:33:47.06\00:33:50.23 Where is the spiritual element of this, Pastor Finley? 00:33:50.26\00:33:53.50 If we live our lives in fear, worry, and anxiety, 00:33:53.53\00:33:58.87 it does breakdown the immune system, 00:33:58.90\00:34:01.50 and we are more likely to get sick. 00:34:01.54\00:34:05.47 God leads us to have a trust and a confidence in Him. 00:34:05.51\00:34:10.35 That does not mean that we'll never get sick. 00:34:10.38\00:34:12.91 But what it does mean is that it increases 00:34:12.95\00:34:15.78 our possibility of being well. 00:34:15.82\00:34:18.79 I love the way it's put here in the book of Isaiah, 00:34:18.82\00:34:22.52 in Isaiah 43. 00:34:22.56\00:34:25.73 It tells us how precious we are to God. 00:34:25.76\00:34:29.16 And it says, Isaiah 43:1, but now, 00:34:29.20\00:34:32.43 thus says the Lord who created you, O Jacob, 00:34:32.47\00:34:35.10 and he who formed you, O Israel, 00:34:35.14\00:34:36.81 fear not for I've redeemed you, 00:34:36.84\00:34:39.24 I've called you by your name, you are mine." 00:34:39.27\00:34:42.58 So God says to us, don't live your life in fear, 00:34:42.61\00:34:46.11 don't live your life in worry, 00:34:46.15\00:34:47.68 don't live your life in anxiety. 00:34:47.72\00:34:49.65 Certainly we ought to be prudent, 00:34:49.68\00:34:51.62 certainly we ought to take every precaution 00:34:51.65\00:34:53.76 as our doctors have told us to wash our hands, 00:34:53.79\00:34:56.93 to use some of those iodine sprays if necessary, 00:34:56.96\00:35:01.10 to definitely get the best diet 00:35:01.13\00:35:03.06 and get adequate exercise and rest. 00:35:03.10\00:35:05.83 But in harmony with that, 00:35:05.87\00:35:08.90 our mental attitude is one of trust. 00:35:08.94\00:35:13.27 In the Book of Isaiah, 00:35:13.31\00:35:15.91 it talks about how God Himself is our protector. 00:35:15.94\00:35:20.25 But when you come over to the Book of Psalms, 00:35:20.32\00:35:22.95 in the 91 Psalm, 00:35:22.98\00:35:25.35 it talks about the increase of pestilences, 00:35:25.39\00:35:28.49 like this that are going to take place 00:35:28.52\00:35:30.53 in the last days of history. 00:35:30.56\00:35:32.89 And it says, talking about those pestilences, 00:35:32.93\00:35:36.13 it says, "Surely He, that is God, 00:35:36.16\00:35:39.20 shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler, 00:35:39.23\00:35:42.57 and from the perilous pestilence." 00:35:42.60\00:35:45.21 Then down in verse 7, 00:35:45.24\00:35:46.68 "A thousand may fall at your side, 00:35:46.71\00:35:49.11 ten thousand at your right hand, 00:35:49.14\00:35:51.58 but it shall not come near you." 00:35:51.61\00:35:55.22 And then it talks about God giving His angels 00:35:55.25\00:35:58.15 charge over us to keep us in all our ways. 00:35:58.19\00:36:01.69 I think that as Christians, the way I view life is this. 00:36:01.72\00:36:05.86 We are in a world of good and evil, 00:36:05.89\00:36:07.93 a world where even good people get sick. 00:36:07.96\00:36:10.97 But our hearts and minds can totally trust God, 00:36:11.00\00:36:14.97 knowing that His purposes for us 00:36:15.00\00:36:17.74 and His intention for us is only good. 00:36:17.77\00:36:21.38 Even if I get sick, I trust Him to get me through it. 00:36:21.41\00:36:25.15 So it's a matter in my understanding, 00:36:25.18\00:36:28.75 when sickness is all around you 00:36:28.78\00:36:30.79 to do the best you can to keep well, 00:36:30.82\00:36:33.25 but if for some reason you cannot control, 00:36:33.29\00:36:36.19 you actually get sick, 00:36:36.22\00:36:38.56 to trust God that He's going to get you through. 00:36:38.59\00:36:40.60 Amen. 00:36:40.63\00:36:42.86 Pastor John? 00:36:42.90\00:36:44.47 You know, the impact of this is something 00:36:44.50\00:36:46.20 that people are doing almost naturally, 00:36:46.23\00:36:48.54 I heard just recently on the news 00:36:48.57\00:36:50.21 and it's on all networks, 00:36:50.24\00:36:52.51 people are self-quarantining themselves. 00:36:52.54\00:36:56.11 They figure it's better to take a precaution 00:36:56.14\00:36:59.31 than expose what I have to someone else. 00:36:59.35\00:37:03.49 And, Pastor Finley, 00:37:03.52\00:37:05.29 that brought me to the verse versus examine yourself. 00:37:05.32\00:37:09.39 In light of the conditions that exist in the world, 00:37:09.42\00:37:11.96 we know that this is a synonymous parody to sin. 00:37:11.99\00:37:15.96 What affects me, affects someone else. 00:37:16.00\00:37:19.03 And I think we've heard this throughout. 00:37:19.07\00:37:20.64 You may have even mentioned it in your preaching 00:37:20.67\00:37:23.34 if what you had infected someone else, 00:37:23.41\00:37:28.51 would it better their lives or make their lives worse? 00:37:28.54\00:37:31.58 And I think this is where our attitude 00:37:31.61\00:37:33.21 in this difficult time is so vitally important. 00:37:33.25\00:37:36.99 I've said so many times 00:37:37.02\00:37:38.35 if we can communicate trust and faith 00:37:38.39\00:37:41.29 in a troublesome time, then people might say, 00:37:41.32\00:37:43.53 "Well, what about your God?" 00:37:43.56\00:37:46.13 Look at Daniel's attitude 00:37:46.16\00:37:47.63 when people had fears about his future. 00:37:47.66\00:37:52.37 Well, Daniel said, 00:37:52.40\00:37:53.74 "The God that I serve is able to deliver." 00:37:53.77\00:37:56.84 The Hebrew said the very same thing. 00:37:56.91\00:37:59.04 "We are not going to be fearful about the atmosphere 00:37:59.07\00:38:02.74 that surrounds us 00:38:02.78\00:38:04.15 because the God who we serve is able to deliver." 00:38:04.18\00:38:06.92 And that's why Peter said, 00:38:06.95\00:38:08.28 "Cast all your care on Him because He cares for you." 00:38:08.32\00:38:11.82 So we've taken the commonsense precautions. 00:38:11.85\00:38:14.99 If you're sneezing, well, 00:38:15.02\00:38:16.93 be mindful of people around you. 00:38:16.96\00:38:18.99 A sneeze in your elbow, cover your mouth. 00:38:19.03\00:38:21.93 But if you do sneeze in your hand, wash your hands, 00:38:21.96\00:38:24.73 and soap and water. 00:38:24.77\00:38:26.10 I like the fact that soap and water 00:38:26.13\00:38:27.47 you don't have to go buy it. 00:38:27.54\00:38:28.87 It's in every household. 00:38:28.90\00:38:30.34 But I also heard maybe some of the doctors 00:38:30.41\00:38:32.01 could convey this and clear this up. 00:38:32.04\00:38:34.21 Someone also said the overuse of hand sanitizers 00:38:34.28\00:38:38.38 could actually not be a very good thing. 00:38:38.41\00:38:40.15 Maybe that's a question that we might be able to ask 00:38:40.22\00:38:42.35 because so many people are buying hand sanitizers. 00:38:42.38\00:38:44.89 And then also secondly, 00:38:44.92\00:38:46.25 there's a certain level of alcohol that's needed, 00:38:46.29\00:38:48.92 rather than the perfumey type 00:38:48.96\00:38:50.96 that smells like strawberries or grape. 00:38:50.99\00:38:53.60 Should we look out for those types of things 00:38:53.63\00:38:55.30 and which kind of hand sanitizer 00:38:55.33\00:38:57.37 will be best and at what level? 00:38:57.40\00:39:00.24 How much should we use? 00:39:00.27\00:39:01.60 That's a good question. 00:39:01.64\00:39:03.34 Dr. Youngberg, would you like to answer that question 00:39:03.41\00:39:06.17 about the hand sanitizer? 00:39:06.21\00:39:08.64 Well, as Dr. Nedley just pointed out, 00:39:08.68\00:39:11.48 the key is washing hands with soap and water, 00:39:11.51\00:39:14.78 and then using hand sanitizers as a secondary option 00:39:14.82\00:39:18.62 when you can't easily wash your hands. 00:39:18.65\00:39:21.82 I personally, 00:39:21.86\00:39:23.22 I personally have a little bottle of this liquid iodine 00:39:23.26\00:39:26.09 and I just spray it, 00:39:26.13\00:39:27.50 I spray it right on my hands 00:39:27.53\00:39:28.96 and that becomes my simple hand sanitizer, 00:39:29.00\00:39:33.23 and I can wipe it on my face as well. 00:39:33.27\00:39:35.47 So right now I'm a little bit less concerned 00:39:35.50\00:39:40.68 about using too much hand sanitizer. 00:39:40.71\00:39:43.45 I'm more concerned about people 00:39:43.48\00:39:44.95 not paying attention to sanitation properly. 00:39:44.98\00:39:48.45 Okay, thank you. 00:39:48.48\00:39:50.19 Pastor Mark, the General Conference, 00:39:50.22\00:39:54.06 of course, Seventh-day Adventist Church, 00:39:54.09\00:39:55.59 were global church and have millions, 00:39:55.62\00:39:59.03 20 plus million members around the world this summer. 00:39:59.06\00:40:02.43 Even we're looking at having our General Conference session, 00:40:02.46\00:40:06.07 for hundreds of thousands of people, 00:40:06.10\00:40:07.77 maybe even million plus, 00:40:07.80\00:40:10.04 would be coming to Indianapolis. 00:40:10.11\00:40:12.54 Can you tell us anything about that? 00:40:12.57\00:40:14.34 And then also about how are we as a church 00:40:14.38\00:40:17.88 because while we're hearing that, 00:40:17.91\00:40:19.65 you know, we're having to stop many things, 00:40:19.68\00:40:23.15 what are we doing as a church 00:40:23.18\00:40:24.52 to make sure we're still going forward, 00:40:24.55\00:40:26.59 taking the gospel to the world? 00:40:26.62\00:40:28.39 That's a great question. Danny, thank you so much. 00:40:28.42\00:40:30.53 The Seventh-day Adventist church leadership 00:40:30.56\00:40:32.69 is certainly extremely conscious of what's happening, 00:40:32.73\00:40:35.33 cognizant of what's happening. 00:40:35.36\00:40:37.50 And our leadership is praying is seeking God. 00:40:37.57\00:40:41.34 No decisions have been made at this point 00:40:41.37\00:40:43.61 regarding the General Conference session. 00:40:43.64\00:40:46.14 You know, you may hear a rumor 00:40:46.17\00:40:47.51 that it's canceled or something that's just not true. 00:40:47.58\00:40:50.25 At this point, 00:40:50.28\00:40:51.61 at the point we're taping this television program 00:40:51.65\00:40:54.25 in March, 00:40:54.32\00:40:55.92 the General Conference 00:40:55.95\00:40:57.29 is looking to our health department, 00:40:57.32\00:40:59.99 Dr. Peter Landless, 00:41:00.06\00:41:01.59 who is very much up with the CDC, 00:41:01.62\00:41:04.63 and the health authorities, 00:41:04.66\00:41:08.16 we are looking 00:41:08.20\00:41:09.53 at the development of this virus, 00:41:09.56\00:41:11.33 how is it going to develop if it develops in the way 00:41:11.37\00:41:14.40 that some people think 00:41:14.44\00:41:15.77 we will need to make some very serious decisions. 00:41:15.80\00:41:18.74 The General Conference session represents the entire world. 00:41:18.77\00:41:23.48 And so we have to be asking the question, 00:41:23.55\00:41:25.65 if indeed there are major issues 00:41:25.68\00:41:29.72 with travel with visas, 00:41:29.75\00:41:33.12 at what point do you make the decision 00:41:33.15\00:41:35.39 say this no longer represents the world? 00:41:35.42\00:41:37.79 Also, if you bring that many people together, 00:41:37.83\00:41:40.60 how does that indeed indicate to infecting other people? 00:41:40.63\00:41:46.13 So we want to take every single thing 00:41:46.17\00:41:48.47 into consideration. 00:41:48.50\00:41:50.01 At this point, we're looking at every one of this issue, 00:41:50.04\00:41:52.77 contingency plans are being developed, 00:41:52.81\00:41:55.01 but no specific decision has been made 00:41:55.04\00:41:57.18 as this program is being taped. 00:41:57.25\00:41:59.28 Now as far as a church is concerned, 00:41:59.31\00:42:03.32 we look at this coronavirus 00:42:03.39\00:42:06.86 through the eyes of compassion. 00:42:06.89\00:42:10.03 We've talked about prevention, 00:42:10.06\00:42:11.73 we've talked about trusting God. 00:42:11.76\00:42:14.33 But what about our responsibility 00:42:14.36\00:42:16.46 to minister to people that have this virus, 00:42:16.50\00:42:20.84 and the virus has become a severe impairment 00:42:20.87\00:42:24.31 to their health? 00:42:24.34\00:42:26.14 We as a church believe 00:42:26.17\00:42:28.38 that we do not run from sickness, 00:42:28.41\00:42:31.61 we run to people that are sick. 00:42:31.65\00:42:34.65 And I'm reminded of a new book that's come out by an author 00:42:34.68\00:42:38.69 by the name of Starkey. 00:42:38.72\00:42:40.16 He wrote the book on early Christianity. 00:42:40.19\00:42:43.63 And he tells the story 00:42:43.66\00:42:45.39 of the second and third centuries, 00:42:45.43\00:42:48.76 when one of the worst plagues ever to hit humanity 00:42:48.80\00:42:52.50 was killing tens of thousands and hundreds of people. 00:42:52.53\00:42:57.34 And he goes back 00:42:57.41\00:42:58.74 and looks at second and third century documents, 00:42:58.77\00:43:02.78 which indicate that the pagans abandoned their sick 00:43:02.81\00:43:07.85 and actually put them in the streets. 00:43:07.88\00:43:10.09 And Christians went into the streets 00:43:10.12\00:43:12.62 ministered to them, 00:43:12.65\00:43:13.99 sometimes getting the influenza themselves and dying. 00:43:14.06\00:43:17.66 And Starkey says that one of the great reasons 00:43:17.69\00:43:21.93 Christianity grew was not only the preaching of the gospel, 00:43:21.96\00:43:26.10 but it was the living of the gospel. 00:43:26.13\00:43:28.17 It was this self-sacrificial ministry to the disadvantage, 00:43:28.20\00:43:32.67 to the sick. 00:43:32.71\00:43:34.38 One of the things 00:43:34.41\00:43:35.74 that the Seventh-day Adventist Church 00:43:35.78\00:43:38.35 is doing today 00:43:38.38\00:43:40.32 is looking at 00:43:40.35\00:43:42.45 how we can proclaim the gospel 00:43:42.48\00:43:47.16 not only in our lips, 00:43:47.19\00:43:48.76 but what blessing can we be to society? 00:43:48.79\00:43:51.79 What healing remedies can we bring to society? 00:43:51.83\00:43:56.67 How can our health message benefit society? 00:43:56.70\00:43:59.83 How can these simple things like hydrotherapy bless others? 00:43:59.87\00:44:03.27 How can we share the message of this new start 00:44:03.30\00:44:07.18 or creation health or celebrate whatever you want to call it, 00:44:07.21\00:44:10.18 how can we share the message 00:44:10.25\00:44:11.58 of these eight natural remedies of wellness 00:44:11.61\00:44:13.92 with a larger community, 00:44:13.95\00:44:15.78 so they can help to have strong immune systems? 00:44:15.82\00:44:18.49 That is a role for Adventists to play 00:44:18.52\00:44:20.69 where we can light the world with the glory of God. 00:44:20.76\00:44:23.66 And, you know, Danny, it seems like to me that, 00:44:23.73\00:44:25.96 especially with the news reports, 00:44:25.99\00:44:28.53 that perhaps the supply chain for medications 00:44:28.56\00:44:32.50 may be interrupted in this process, 00:44:32.53\00:44:34.57 that's going to put even more of an emphasis 00:44:34.60\00:44:36.74 on the natural remedies. 00:44:36.81\00:44:40.78 It's gonna make it really important, 00:44:40.81\00:44:42.14 and we have, 00:44:42.18\00:44:43.65 maybe we need to get kind of retooled 00:44:43.68\00:44:46.55 and know how to give a fomentation, 00:44:46.58\00:44:48.92 know how to care in those situations. 00:44:48.95\00:44:50.89 And so to me, there's three things. 00:44:50.92\00:44:52.42 Number one, I want to try to avoid getting this if I can. 00:44:52.45\00:44:55.72 That's right. 00:44:55.76\00:44:57.13 And then if I get it, 00:44:57.16\00:44:58.49 I want to make common sense decisions 00:44:58.53\00:45:00.70 on how I'm going to relate to whether I go out, 00:45:00.73\00:45:03.60 whether I'd stay in. 00:45:03.67\00:45:05.00 And I think I know I'm going to stay in. 00:45:05.03\00:45:06.94 And then, thirdly, if others have it, 00:45:06.97\00:45:10.61 and they need my help, then I want to help them. 00:45:10.64\00:45:15.34 Those three things. 00:45:15.38\00:45:16.75 Then I think two, 00:45:16.78\00:45:18.11 that there are two great pitfalls 00:45:18.15\00:45:21.62 that as individuals we ought to avoid 00:45:21.65\00:45:23.69 and the church ought to avoid. 00:45:23.72\00:45:25.32 One is ignoring what's happening. 00:45:25.35\00:45:28.29 One is saying, "Well, this is just going to pass 00:45:28.32\00:45:29.86 and I'm not worried about it." 00:45:29.89\00:45:31.36 And I think that really contributes 00:45:31.39\00:45:32.99 to what you've just said. 00:45:33.03\00:45:34.50 We don't live in panic, but we don't overreact either. 00:45:34.53\00:45:38.43 That's right. 00:45:38.47\00:45:39.80 We don't ignore this situation. 00:45:39.83\00:45:42.14 We take commonsense principles to be on the very best diet, 00:45:42.17\00:45:45.31 to get adequate exercise, to build our immune system, 00:45:45.34\00:45:48.11 to wash our hands, to watch it when we sneeze 00:45:48.14\00:45:51.21 and try to sneeze into our elbows and to... 00:45:51.25\00:45:53.18 And to avoid the large crowds... 00:45:53.21\00:45:54.98 Yeah, sure. 00:45:55.02\00:45:56.35 And be little bit more isolated. 00:45:56.38\00:45:57.72 You know, when it comes to church. 00:45:57.75\00:45:59.29 I think that's a decision 00:45:59.32\00:46:00.89 that every pastor has to make with his congregation. 00:46:00.96\00:46:03.96 It's a decision that may be made for us 00:46:04.03\00:46:06.06 by government entities. 00:46:06.09\00:46:07.76 But it's a decision, I think that's one 00:46:07.80\00:46:09.83 that we need to cautiously make. 00:46:09.86\00:46:13.94 But the one idea is people ignore. 00:46:13.97\00:46:16.91 The other is they overreact. 00:46:16.94\00:46:18.81 So you got those two extremes. 00:46:18.84\00:46:21.34 We want to take a measured, prayerful, 00:46:21.38\00:46:24.98 commonsense approach to the problem 00:46:25.01\00:46:27.95 as we move ahead. 00:46:27.98\00:46:29.32 Steady at the controls. 00:46:29.35\00:46:30.89 And it's amazing with medical science, 00:46:30.92\00:46:33.56 where we are today and the things 00:46:33.59\00:46:35.36 that are going to be happening 00:46:35.39\00:46:36.73 should the Lord tarry in the next 10 years 00:46:36.76\00:46:38.93 or we're reading about 00:46:38.96\00:46:40.30 that we find ourselves going back to Sister Ellen White. 00:46:40.33\00:46:44.30 Yes, yes. 00:46:44.33\00:46:45.67 And the health message God gave her... 00:46:45.70\00:46:47.77 Hot and cold. 00:46:47.80\00:46:49.14 Isn't it? The simple things. 00:46:49.17\00:46:50.81 Yes. To do this. 00:46:50.84\00:46:52.17 But I also want to talk for just a moment 00:46:52.21\00:46:54.11 focus on the mission, and the mission as a church, 00:46:54.18\00:46:59.18 as people, as Christians 00:46:59.21\00:47:00.72 or whatever denomination you are. 00:47:00.75\00:47:02.82 For instance, Dan and Karen are here, 00:47:02.85\00:47:06.99 Mark Finley neither live in Southern Illinois. 00:47:07.06\00:47:09.52 I don't have to tell those 00:47:09.56\00:47:10.93 of you know that from California, 00:47:10.96\00:47:12.86 from DC area, 00:47:12.89\00:47:14.46 but you decided it's worth the risk to come here. 00:47:14.50\00:47:20.04 Now commonsense would say, maybe on the secular level, 00:47:20.07\00:47:25.31 "I'm not. Are you kidding? 00:47:25.34\00:47:26.68 Travel all the way to Southern Illinois 00:47:26.71\00:47:28.44 and go down and do all this." 00:47:28.48\00:47:30.75 But the heart for Jesus, the love for Jesus, 00:47:30.78\00:47:33.52 and love for people, and compassion, 00:47:33.55\00:47:35.92 as you brought out, says, "You know what, 00:47:35.95\00:47:38.49 we're going to go ahead and do this. 00:47:38.52\00:47:40.16 And when I get home, 00:47:40.19\00:47:41.52 I may isolate myself for a while." 00:47:41.56\00:47:43.56 But I just want to say to our viewers, 00:47:43.63\00:47:45.46 and for all of us here, thank you, 00:47:45.49\00:47:47.60 and for being willing to be here 00:47:47.63\00:47:50.60 to do what you're doing. 00:47:50.67\00:47:52.50 Mark, you're doing this, Pastor Mark, 00:47:52.53\00:47:54.14 on the series on the three angels' messages. 00:47:54.17\00:47:57.21 You could have opted and said, "You know, 00:47:57.24\00:47:58.64 I think I'll just stay home." 00:47:58.67\00:48:00.38 But you're driven by the Holy Spirit, 00:48:00.41\00:48:02.61 by the Lord to say, "You know, I can't live in fear." 00:48:02.64\00:48:05.55 You said that earlier. 00:48:05.58\00:48:07.35 You know, I'm going to trust God. 00:48:07.42\00:48:09.08 So the things that he's been telling us, 00:48:09.12\00:48:11.92 you're living in your own life. 00:48:11.95\00:48:13.29 That's what I noticed here. 00:48:13.36\00:48:14.69 You're living by those same principles, 00:48:14.72\00:48:16.83 to trust the Lord and to go forward and do. 00:48:16.86\00:48:18.86 So commonsense, cleanliness, 00:48:18.89\00:48:22.33 and being driven by the mission 00:48:22.36\00:48:25.27 that Jesus says, "Go ye into all the world." 00:48:25.30\00:48:27.44 Now for the churches and pastors 00:48:27.47\00:48:29.54 and all the people who say, 00:48:29.57\00:48:31.67 we are not like pioneer that was said earlier, 00:48:31.71\00:48:34.78 guess what, you can watch 3ABN, 00:48:34.81\00:48:36.78 you can stream it online, 00:48:36.85\00:48:38.18 you can do it on your computers, 00:48:38.21\00:48:39.61 download the 3ABN app on your phones, 00:48:39.65\00:48:42.52 just turn on the 3ABN whether it's dish network, 00:48:42.55\00:48:45.12 whether it's Roku, 00:48:45.15\00:48:46.52 cable stations around the world. 00:48:46.55\00:48:48.59 So for many of you, and there's other networks, 00:48:48.62\00:48:50.46 of course, also, 00:48:50.53\00:48:51.86 but for many who can't get out or decide not to, 00:48:51.89\00:48:54.80 look into technology that God has given us 00:48:54.83\00:48:57.90 that sitting anywhere in the world. 00:48:57.93\00:49:00.04 And no matter how isolated we are, 00:49:00.07\00:49:02.54 that we have the opportunities 00:49:02.57\00:49:04.04 that we can literally continue to take in the gospel, 00:49:04.11\00:49:07.21 but more importantly than just taking it in, 00:49:07.28\00:49:09.71 it's taking it in and then taking it out, 00:49:09.74\00:49:12.21 giving this message to the world. 00:49:12.25\00:49:14.12 So thank you for what you're doing. 00:49:14.15\00:49:15.52 And Karen, and for what you're doing Pastor John. 00:49:15.55\00:49:18.39 You just got back from Tobago, and you know, Trinidad 00:49:18.42\00:49:21.62 and so you didn't hesitate to go. 00:49:21.66\00:49:23.76 You said, "Hey, the Lord wants me there" 00:49:23.83\00:49:25.89 so you did it. 00:49:25.93\00:49:27.30 So there are people who go forward. 00:49:27.33\00:49:28.86 Does that mean that God's protecting them? 00:49:28.90\00:49:31.03 Tell me about that for just a moment. 00:49:31.07\00:49:32.83 We only have a minute left here to couple 00:49:32.87\00:49:34.80 but tell me about the people who go forward. 00:49:34.84\00:49:37.84 I think I heard you say something earlier 00:49:37.87\00:49:39.71 doesn't mean that because you go forward 00:49:39.74\00:49:42.38 in the name of the Lord, 00:49:42.41\00:49:43.75 that you can't contract something like this 00:49:43.78\00:49:46.01 or bad things happen to you. 00:49:46.05\00:49:47.95 But when they do, tell us what's the remedy here?
