We are so glad to hear that. 00:03:21.36\00:03:22.73 Yeah, so speaking of husband, 00:03:22.76\00:03:24.67 I am going to introduce the song 00:03:24.70\00:03:28.64 that my husband is gonna sing, which I'm excited about. 00:03:28.67\00:03:33.38 So the song is, Be Still and Know. 00:03:33.41\00:03:37.68 Be still and know that He is God 00:03:59.07\00:04:03.20 Be still and know that He is holy 00:04:07.18\00:04:11.38 Be still oh restless soul of mine 00:04:15.22\00:04:20.26 Bow before the Prince of Peace 00:04:20.29\00:04:24.13 Let the noise and clamor cease 00:04:24.16\00:04:27.83 Be still and know that He is God 00:04:31.20\00:04:35.47 Be still and know that He is faithful 00:04:39.14\00:04:43.55 Consider all that He has done 00:04:47.22\00:04:52.05 Stand in awe and be amazed 00:04:52.09\00:04:56.02 And know that He will never change 00:04:56.06\00:05:02.10 Be still 00:05:02.13\00:05:05.10 Be still and know that He is God 00:05:10.44\00:05:25.82 Be still 00:05:25.85\00:05:30.33 And know that He is God 00:05:30.36\00:05:34.10 Be still 00:05:34.13\00:05:38.67 Be speechless 00:05:38.70\00:05:44.61 Be still and know that He is God 00:05:44.64\00:05:52.58 Be still and know 00:05:52.61\00:05:54.68 He is our Father 00:05:54.72\00:06:00.76 Come rest your head upon His breast 00:06:00.79\00:06:05.83 Listen to the rhythm of His unfailing heart of love 00:06:05.86\00:06:13.74 Beating for His little ones 00:06:13.77\00:06:17.74 Calling each of us to come 00:06:17.77\00:06:22.01 Be still 00:06:25.85\00:06:29.15 Be still 00:06:34.92\00:06:38.36 Thank you, honey, my husband, John Lomacang 00:06:54.21\00:06:57.48 for singing that beautiful song. 00:06:57.55\00:06:59.58 Be still and know that I am God. 00:06:59.61\00:07:02.62 Wow, beautiful. 00:07:02.65\00:07:03.99 Anyway, Francine, 00:07:04.02\00:07:06.96 you wanted to share something with the audience. 00:07:06.99\00:07:09.46 I have to say... This is very good. 00:07:09.49\00:07:11.59 I have to say, I grew up with Your Story Hour. 00:07:11.63\00:07:14.50 And I remember meeting Aunt Carole 00:07:14.53\00:07:16.77 and going into the facility every week 00:07:16.80\00:07:18.70 once in a while. 00:07:18.73\00:07:20.07 But the biggest highlight 00:07:20.14\00:07:21.47 is still having little tape recorders. 00:07:21.50\00:07:23.61 My daughter is now listening to them. 00:07:23.64\00:07:25.94 And so on the way to school, 00:07:25.97\00:07:27.91 we often would go listen at 7 o'clock in the morning 00:07:27.94\00:07:31.01 is when we have it. 00:07:31.05\00:07:32.38 And we listen to it. 00:07:32.41\00:07:33.82 And if we can't finish it 00:07:33.85\00:07:35.18 because I dropped her off at school, 00:07:35.22\00:07:36.62 sometimes we have to go finish it in the evening. 00:07:36.69\00:07:39.69 And she just loves it. 00:07:39.72\00:07:41.06 And it's wonderful 00:07:41.09\00:07:42.42 because it reminds me of stories 00:07:42.46\00:07:44.33 of how the disciples were asking Jesus 00:07:44.36\00:07:47.93 in Matthew 13 about 00:07:47.96\00:07:49.86 why are You teaching in parables? 00:07:49.90\00:07:53.07 And Jesus is telling His disciples, 00:07:53.10\00:07:56.27 it's because at this point in their life, 00:07:56.30\00:07:58.97 this is what they can learn 00:07:59.01\00:08:00.38 and this is how they learn about who God is. 00:08:00.41\00:08:03.01 And so, I appreciate everything that you're doing 00:08:03.04\00:08:05.85 is because it is still reaching the community 00:08:05.88\00:08:09.35 and it is growing their faith. 00:08:09.38\00:08:11.22 And hopefully, in turn they're taking that time 00:08:11.25\00:08:13.66 to read the Bible. 00:08:13.69\00:08:15.02 But it's these little stories and it just reminds me 00:08:15.06\00:08:17.36 how Jesus was teaching the disciples. 00:08:17.43\00:08:20.70 And so again opening that Bible 00:08:20.73\00:08:22.50 so I encourage you at home as well to, 00:08:22.53\00:08:24.63 you know, take that time. 00:08:24.67\00:08:26.00 It's learning from what Your Story Hour has done, 00:08:26.03\00:08:28.77 but also reading for yourself some of those words. 00:08:28.80\00:08:31.34 Amen. Absolutely. 00:08:31.37\00:08:32.71 And well said. 00:08:32.74\00:08:34.58 And we know that radio is the theater of the mind. 00:08:34.61\00:08:37.15 Right. Your imagination. 00:08:37.18\00:08:39.11 And that's what I like about Your Story Hour. 00:08:39.15\00:08:41.48 It just takes your way 00:08:41.52\00:08:42.92 and you're just traveling with them. 00:08:42.95\00:08:44.69 You feel like you're there with them really. 00:08:44.72\00:08:47.39 So, Julie, tell us more about Your Story Hour? 00:08:47.46\00:08:49.82 How did it get started 00:08:49.86\00:08:51.19 and how long has Your Story Hour been around? 00:08:51.23\00:08:53.63 Okay, Your Story Hour is a nondenominational ministry. 00:08:53.70\00:08:58.13 And we began, last March, 00:08:58.17\00:09:00.34 we celebrated our 70th birthday. 00:09:00.37\00:09:02.30 Wow. 00:09:02.34\00:09:03.71 So we are now 70 years old. 00:09:03.74\00:09:05.57 Praise the Lord. 00:09:05.61\00:09:06.98 So and the Lord continues to bless. 00:09:07.01\00:09:09.64 And it started from just back in the, late 1940s. 00:09:09.68\00:09:15.45 The people in community saw need, 00:09:15.48\00:09:17.12 the kids needed some direction. 00:09:17.19\00:09:18.99 They started a story time program and said, 00:09:19.02\00:09:20.99 "You know, let's get these kids in here 00:09:21.02\00:09:22.49 and tell them some good stories." 00:09:22.52\00:09:24.13 And then from there, they're like, 00:09:24.16\00:09:25.49 well, what if we could get a radio station 00:09:25.53\00:09:27.30 to air these stories. 00:09:27.33\00:09:28.66 So they found radio station. 00:09:28.70\00:09:30.03 So every week they were going in, 00:09:30.07\00:09:31.40 and they were doing it live. 00:09:31.43\00:09:32.77 So if there were mistakes, then they were there. 00:09:32.80\00:09:35.77 And so it just progressed from there 00:09:35.80\00:09:38.67 that then they started taping them, 00:09:38.71\00:09:40.28 and then other radio stations started carrying them, 00:09:40.31\00:09:43.28 and then it wasn't too long. 00:09:43.35\00:09:44.68 And they realized that this is, you know, this could be more 00:09:44.71\00:09:47.62 and so they started with professional actors 00:09:47.65\00:09:50.59 and started recording the scripts 00:09:50.62\00:09:52.55 that they were working on. 00:09:52.59\00:09:54.06 And then it just continued to grow from there. 00:09:54.09\00:09:56.12 And so 70 years later here we are 00:09:56.16\00:09:57.96 with hundreds of programs 00:09:57.99\00:09:59.66 and continuing to make more programs 00:09:59.69\00:10:01.60 and keeping up with technology, you know, it's... 00:10:01.63\00:10:04.60 How long have you been there? 00:10:04.63\00:10:05.97 I've been with Story Hour for just over 20 years. 00:10:06.00\00:10:08.30 Oh, quite a while. Right. 00:10:08.34\00:10:09.67 Yes, and in my current position it's been 13 years. 00:10:09.70\00:10:12.51 Oh, my. So yeah. 00:10:12.54\00:10:13.98 Now, I've been working with Your Story Hour 00:10:14.01\00:10:18.08 for about 15 years and it's been wonderful. 00:10:18.11\00:10:21.18 And a person there that was near and dear 00:10:21.22\00:10:23.62 to my heart, you know, who I'm gonna say? 00:10:23.69\00:10:25.02 Yes, I do. 00:10:25.05\00:10:26.39 And who I always worked with, talked, 00:10:26.42\00:10:28.62 we've been prayed over the phone. 00:10:28.66\00:10:30.03 Richard. Right. 00:10:30.06\00:10:31.39 We miss Richard. Richard. 00:10:31.43\00:10:33.19 What did Richard do there? 00:10:33.23\00:10:34.63 Richard was responsible for making sure 00:10:34.66\00:10:37.27 all of our radio programs were sent out 00:10:37.30\00:10:40.94 to the radio stations. 00:10:40.97\00:10:42.57 So he was in charge of all of that 00:10:42.60\00:10:44.94 and making the programs 'cause we have a schedule 00:10:44.97\00:10:47.18 'cause we have some radio stations 00:10:47.21\00:10:48.91 that airs just once a week 00:10:48.94\00:10:50.28 and that's fine or stations like 3ABN, 00:10:50.35\00:10:52.71 they air us daily. 00:10:52.75\00:10:54.22 And so Richard was responsible for setting all the programs 00:10:54.25\00:10:57.62 'cause I said we have over 500 to choose from, 00:10:57.65\00:11:00.19 so we need to figure out where, 00:11:00.26\00:11:04.49 you know what stories we put in where. 00:11:04.53\00:11:07.53 And so Richard was responsible for that 00:11:07.60\00:11:09.36 and we certainly miss him as well. 00:11:09.40\00:11:12.03 Yeah. And Richard passed away... 00:11:12.07\00:11:13.84 Yes, he did. Yeah. 00:11:13.87\00:11:15.20 Few years ago. But, you know... Yeah. 00:11:15.24\00:11:17.04 But the Lord, you know, keeps bringing people in, 00:11:17.11\00:11:19.04 you know, it's the Lord's mission. 00:11:19.07\00:11:21.21 And so He brings in the missionaries 00:11:21.24\00:11:22.94 that are needed for to continue the work, 00:11:22.98\00:11:24.85 so He continues to bring in the people 00:11:24.88\00:11:27.02 that are now responsible for getting the program out. 00:11:27.05\00:11:28.95 Exactly. Yeah. 00:11:28.98\00:11:30.32 So we're just very blessed 00:11:30.39\00:11:31.99 to be able to continue to provide the programming. 00:11:32.02\00:11:33.66 All right. 00:11:33.69\00:11:35.02 Now, Jon, tell us about yourself? 00:11:35.06\00:11:36.39 You're a pastor in Michigan? 00:11:36.42\00:11:38.13 No, I pastor in western Pennsylvania. 00:11:38.16\00:11:40.70 Pennsylvania? Yes. 00:11:40.73\00:11:42.06 Okay. Yes. 00:11:42.10\00:11:43.43 Okay 'cause I know Story Hour is based in Michigan. 00:11:43.47\00:11:45.30 We are based in Michigan. Yes. 00:11:45.33\00:11:46.67 Right. Yes. 00:11:46.74\00:11:48.07 And so it's a little bit of a drive for him to come. 00:11:48.10\00:11:49.80 Oh, yeah. 00:11:49.84\00:11:51.17 But since they're not needed in the studio all the time, 00:11:51.21\00:11:54.28 you know, he's able to come over 00:11:54.31\00:11:55.81 and it works really well. 00:11:55.84\00:11:57.18 Yeah. Oh. 00:11:57.25\00:11:58.58 Okay, so tell us 00:11:58.61\00:11:59.95 how did you get into that position of Uncle Jon? 00:11:59.98\00:12:04.22 Well, my daughter was attending the university 00:12:04.29\00:12:08.06 right there at Berrien Springs. 00:12:08.09\00:12:09.72 And she decided at the end of one school year 00:12:09.76\00:12:14.20 that instead of bringing all of her stuff home, 00:12:14.23\00:12:16.60 she stored some things in Aunt Julie's house. 00:12:16.67\00:12:21.44 And then, when the next fall came, 00:12:21.47\00:12:23.41 and we came to move her back into the dorm, 00:12:23.44\00:12:27.91 it was then my task to go to Aunt Julie's house 00:12:27.94\00:12:30.68 and load all the stuff into the van. 00:12:30.75\00:12:32.61 And so I called Julie and she came out 00:12:32.65\00:12:34.75 and I think it was at noon or something like that. 00:12:34.78\00:12:37.72 And I loaded everything into the van. 00:12:37.75\00:12:39.92 And as I was shutting the door to the van, 00:12:39.95\00:12:43.73 she was coming out of the house to get back in the car 00:12:43.76\00:12:45.66 to go back to Your Story Hour 00:12:45.69\00:12:47.73 and it just popped into my head. 00:12:47.76\00:12:49.86 And so kind of as a joke, I threw it out there. 00:12:49.90\00:12:52.93 If you ever need another Uncle Dan, let me know. 00:12:52.97\00:12:55.47 Oh. 00:12:55.50\00:12:56.84 And then she gets kind of this hesitant look on her face, 00:12:56.91\00:13:01.71 like she's not sure exactly how she should answer. 00:13:01.74\00:13:06.15 And then it didn't. 00:13:06.18\00:13:08.12 That look really didn't go away. 00:13:08.15\00:13:10.49 But she hesitatingly said, 00:13:10.52\00:13:12.19 "Well, we are accepting auditions right now." 00:13:12.22\00:13:16.49 Yeah. 00:13:16.52\00:13:17.86 So if you want to come in and take a couple hours. 00:13:17.89\00:13:21.30 Well, my younger daughter was starting her freshman year. 00:13:21.33\00:13:26.07 So we were gonna be there throughout the week 00:13:26.10\00:13:28.47 to support her in that new freshman year 00:13:28.50\00:13:31.24 at the university. 00:13:31.27\00:13:32.61 So I was gonna be in town all week. 00:13:32.64\00:13:34.41 So I said, okay. 00:13:34.44\00:13:35.78 So I went in and auditioned. 00:13:35.81\00:13:37.25 Wow. 00:13:37.28\00:13:38.61 And that began a year and a half 00:13:38.65\00:13:41.85 long process of auditioning 00:13:41.88\00:13:45.02 because they were still accepting auditions. 00:13:45.05\00:13:48.02 And I didn't hear anything more about it 00:13:48.06\00:13:53.03 and I didn't want to push or anything. 00:13:53.06\00:13:54.40 So I just kind of left it and I didn't hear anything 00:13:54.43\00:13:57.70 until actually the end of the school year. 00:13:57.73\00:14:01.04 They asked me to come in and they said, 00:14:01.07\00:14:03.27 "We want you to redo your audition tape." 00:14:03.30\00:14:04.74 Oh. 00:14:04.77\00:14:06.11 And I said, okay. 00:14:06.14\00:14:07.81 So I went and I said... 00:14:07.84\00:14:11.01 Did the audition, re-did it, Aunt Carole was there. 00:14:11.05\00:14:15.02 She coached me because the goal 00:14:15.05\00:14:17.65 for Aunt Nikki and I when we do it 00:14:17.69\00:14:19.92 is for us to sound natural, 00:14:19.95\00:14:21.42 like we're just having a conversation. 00:14:21.46\00:14:23.83 And Aunt Carole was there 00:14:23.86\00:14:25.19 to try to get me to give them my best. 00:14:25.23\00:14:29.96 And I think if they could, 00:14:30.00\00:14:32.03 they tried to do that for all of the auditioning 00:14:32.07\00:14:34.24 'cause they really wanted the best from everybody 00:14:34.27\00:14:36.57 so that they could pick from the best 00:14:36.60\00:14:39.87 that a person could give them. 00:14:39.91\00:14:41.24 And so I went and I did that. 00:14:41.28\00:14:44.88 And it was funny when I left 00:14:44.91\00:14:46.61 and there would be a couple more auditions 00:14:46.65\00:14:48.62 that they would end up calling me back for. 00:14:48.65\00:14:51.72 Every time I left, I was thinking to myself, 00:14:51.75\00:14:56.52 I may not ever be back here again. 00:14:56.56\00:14:58.43 This was fun, 00:14:58.46\00:14:59.79 but I may not be back, you know. 00:14:59.83\00:15:02.46 And it was a year and a half 00:15:02.50\00:15:04.70 and finally we waited through all of that. 00:15:04.73\00:15:06.84 And I may get more into that process down the road 00:15:06.87\00:15:09.74 but in this interview, but when they finally, 00:15:09.77\00:15:12.64 actually came and I got the call, 00:15:12.67\00:15:15.91 you're gonna, we want to ask you 00:15:15.94\00:15:18.11 to be the next uncle... 00:15:18.15\00:15:21.25 How did you feel? 00:15:21.28\00:15:23.82 I was elated. 00:15:23.89\00:15:25.89 But, you know, it really sunk in 00:15:25.92\00:15:28.39 a little while later. 00:15:28.42\00:15:30.13 They asked us to come in. 00:15:30.16\00:15:31.63 Nikki and I went in 'cause they were trying 00:15:31.66\00:15:33.53 to put in some new theme music and everything 00:15:33.60\00:15:35.66 to go with Aunt Nikki and I being the host. 00:15:35.70\00:15:38.90 And they wanted to just test some lines and things 00:15:38.93\00:15:41.77 so they had us come in and rebuild. 00:15:41.80\00:15:44.14 So when I went in for the interview for that... 00:15:44.21\00:15:48.18 Not audition but a recordings for that. 00:15:48.21\00:15:51.71 When I walked into the studio, it was like, you know, 00:15:51.75\00:15:55.05 I'm gonna be back again. 00:15:55.08\00:15:56.45 I knew it. 00:15:56.48\00:15:57.82 It was, it was like, you know, 00:15:57.85\00:15:59.32 this is something that it's gonna happen, 00:15:59.35\00:16:01.86 it's gonna happen, it's gonna happen. 00:16:01.89\00:16:03.73 I belong here now. 00:16:03.76\00:16:05.09 Exactly, exactly. That's great. 00:16:05.13\00:16:06.80 It's a process. So you do have a board? 00:16:06.83\00:16:09.06 We have a board. Yeah. 00:16:09.10\00:16:10.60 As we were auditioning for people, 00:16:10.67\00:16:12.07 we had kind of a little group 00:16:12.10\00:16:14.87 that was listening to all the auditions 00:16:14.90\00:16:17.84 that were coming in 00:16:17.87\00:16:19.34 and we just weren't quite getting what we wanted. 00:16:19.37\00:16:22.34 And when Jon came in, I thought, 00:16:22.38\00:16:25.28 "Well, that sounds pretty good." 00:16:25.31\00:16:27.22 But I thought, well, maybe it's 'cause I'm used to Jon, 00:16:27.25\00:16:28.98 I've known Jon a long time, so maybe I'm used to Jon. 00:16:29.02\00:16:31.32 And that's why it sounds good. 00:16:31.35\00:16:32.72 So I had our producer, 00:16:32.75\00:16:34.09 I'm like, "Okay, send this to the other people, 00:16:34.16\00:16:35.66 but don't put a last name with it." 00:16:35.69\00:16:37.66 Because I don't want people to think 00:16:37.69\00:16:39.19 I have to say something nice 00:16:39.23\00:16:40.60 because, you know, it's a... 00:16:40.63\00:16:41.96 Yeah. 00:16:42.00\00:16:43.33 You know, obviously is related or I, you know, 00:16:43.37\00:16:45.47 didn't also the other end didn't want to discount him 00:16:45.50\00:16:48.07 because he was related. 00:16:48.10\00:16:49.94 So I just sent it off with his first name. 00:16:50.01\00:16:51.34 And the feedback was, 00:16:51.37\00:16:52.71 "Wow, that sounded pretty good, who was that." 00:16:52.74\00:16:55.08 So then it came out well, you know, 00:16:55.11\00:16:56.58 it's actually my brother-in-law, 00:16:56.61\00:16:57.95 but we, you know, as Jon said, we continued, 00:16:57.98\00:16:59.68 we had other auditions they came in. 00:16:59.71\00:17:01.65 And so it was a process that we went through 00:17:01.68\00:17:04.89 'cause we just, we did a lot of praying the board 00:17:04.92\00:17:07.56 on the staff. 00:17:07.59\00:17:09.12 You know, Aunt Carole was still with us. 00:17:09.16\00:17:11.26 We did a lot of praying about, you know, who are the next host 00:17:11.29\00:17:15.56 'cause it's a really, really huge, important job. 00:17:15.60\00:17:19.90 And so, you know... 00:17:19.93\00:17:21.60 And Stanley was the first host for more than 40 years. 00:17:21.64\00:17:24.91 Right. Oh, yeah. 00:17:24.94\00:17:26.27 Aunt Carole's been there for more than 30. 00:17:26.31\00:17:28.41 How about Uncle Dan? How long? 00:17:28.44\00:17:29.78 Uncle Dan was there for almost 30 years as well. 00:17:29.81\00:17:31.31 That long? 00:17:31.35\00:17:32.68 Now did he pass away? 00:17:32.71\00:17:34.05 He did pass away. He did pass away. 00:17:34.12\00:17:35.45 Yes, he did pass away as well. Okay. Wow. 00:17:35.48\00:17:36.82 And, but they even before Uncle Dan became ill, 00:17:36.85\00:17:42.46 he and Aunt Carole were both was saying to me, 00:17:42.49\00:17:45.19 we're not getting any younger. 00:17:45.23\00:17:47.23 You know, you need to start thinking about this. 00:17:47.30\00:17:49.06 And I thought "Oh, I don't want to think about this. 00:17:49.10\00:17:50.50 I like the way it is." Yeah. 00:17:50.57\00:17:52.20 But so the process that actually started 00:17:52.23\00:17:55.70 before Uncle Dan became ill, we were well in the process. 00:17:55.74\00:18:00.08 And so it just, 00:18:00.11\00:18:01.94 it was a little more bittersweet doing it that way 00:18:01.98\00:18:03.88 and we're so thankful that Aunt Carole's 00:18:03.95\00:18:05.31 still part of our program, and we're so... 00:18:05.35\00:18:07.42 We're blessed. Yeah. 00:18:07.45\00:18:08.78 But you have Aunt Nikki. So bless to have her. Right. 00:18:08.82\00:18:10.32 And of course, now we have Aunt Nikki too. 00:18:10.39\00:18:11.72 Yes. 00:18:11.75\00:18:13.09 How did that process go, the same? 00:18:13.12\00:18:15.56 Do you want to tell this? 00:18:15.59\00:18:16.93 I can tell how I joined. 00:18:16.96\00:18:18.53 It's definitely a different way than Jon entered. 00:18:18.56\00:18:22.70 I have been very aware 00:18:22.73\00:18:26.23 of Your Story Hour for many years. 00:18:26.27\00:18:27.64 One, I grew up listening to Uncle Dan and Aunt Sue. 00:18:27.67\00:18:30.84 But then, when I was in eighth grade, 00:18:30.91\00:18:33.98 my mother became Aunt Carole. 00:18:34.01\00:18:35.98 I love it, you're Carole's daughter? 00:18:39.58\00:18:41.58 Yeah. Aunt Carole is my mother. Oh! 00:18:41.62\00:18:43.99 So I knew Richard. 00:18:44.02\00:18:45.65 When you said the name I'm like I know. 00:18:45.69\00:18:47.26 That's why your eyes just sparkled. 00:18:47.29\00:18:50.53 So growing up, I was well aware of Your Story Hour would go in, 00:18:50.56\00:18:56.00 would get to see how stories were made. 00:18:56.03\00:18:58.83 I knew who the people were, 00:18:58.87\00:19:00.74 and I... 00:19:00.77\00:19:04.21 My voice is very similar to my mother's. 00:19:04.24\00:19:06.24 Yes, it is. 00:19:06.27\00:19:07.61 And actually, both my sisters are. 00:19:07.64\00:19:09.21 And I can remember, you know, 00:19:09.24\00:19:12.01 like the children come in and do recordings. 00:19:12.05\00:19:14.92 And I could never be a child on Your Story Hour 00:19:14.95\00:19:18.59 because it would be, "Wait was that Aunt Carole?" 00:19:18.62\00:19:20.86 People were... 00:19:20.89\00:19:22.29 My voice was too similar. 00:19:22.32\00:19:23.96 And I was always entertained 00:19:24.03\00:19:25.63 'cause at the time Fred was the producer. 00:19:25.66\00:19:28.93 And occasionally he would call the home 00:19:28.96\00:19:30.40 and I would answer, you know, you only say hello. 00:19:30.47\00:19:33.00 It's not that there's a lot of words, 00:19:33.03\00:19:34.37 but every once in a while, 00:19:34.40\00:19:35.77 he would think I was my mother. 00:19:35.80\00:19:37.14 And he worked with my mother's voice 00:19:37.21\00:19:38.57 all the time, 00:19:38.61\00:19:39.94 so I was always like, 00:19:39.97\00:19:41.88 you know, but so I grew up with it. 00:19:41.91\00:19:44.85 And now seeing my mother as Aunt Carole, 00:19:44.88\00:19:46.82 you see the full reality of what it is to be a host. 00:19:46.85\00:19:49.48 There are many, many blessings and it's wonderful, 00:19:49.52\00:19:52.02 but there are hard parts to it. 00:19:52.05\00:19:54.56 Things you have to work with and people's expectations. 00:19:54.59\00:19:57.86 And so my mom, you know, I've heard her talk, 00:19:57.89\00:20:01.70 oh, we need to get new people 00:20:01.73\00:20:03.67 and we need to bring any younger host sitting, 00:20:03.70\00:20:06.94 talking about it over the years. 00:20:06.97\00:20:08.77 You know, this has been something we prayed about, 00:20:08.80\00:20:10.71 talked about, and they're never were both, 00:20:10.74\00:20:14.28 you know, people sometimes would send an audition, 00:20:14.31\00:20:16.44 but it might be just a person. 00:20:16.48\00:20:18.01 There wasn't ever a couple, you know, new co-hosts. 00:20:18.05\00:20:22.28 And a few years ago, they got more serious about it. 00:20:22.32\00:20:26.09 And my mom asked 00:20:26.12\00:20:27.46 all of her daughters to audition. 00:20:27.49\00:20:29.79 And so I sent an audition, 00:20:29.82\00:20:31.19 but I was very reticent 00:20:31.23\00:20:33.29 to actually do it 00:20:33.33\00:20:34.83 because I have... 00:20:34.86\00:20:36.20 At that time, younger children, 00:20:36.23\00:20:37.70 and knowing what it would involve 00:20:37.73\00:20:40.87 I was like, okay, God, I don't know about this. 00:20:40.94\00:20:43.71 And I'm like, I'm feeling like, if I send in the audition, 00:20:43.74\00:20:46.21 I'm saying I do want to be the next host. 00:20:46.24\00:20:49.48 And I was like, I don't know about this, God. 00:20:49.51\00:20:50.98 I don't know. 00:20:51.01\00:20:52.35 I was very, you know, 00:20:52.38\00:20:55.92 Julie and I talked, I sent her emails. 00:20:55.95\00:20:57.75 I'd be like, Julie, I don't know 00:20:57.79\00:20:59.29 but I'm sending this in. 00:20:59.32\00:21:00.66 You know, Mom, I don't know. 00:21:00.69\00:21:02.02 And she's like, I only want. 00:21:02.06\00:21:03.53 My mom is very much I only want it for you 00:21:03.56\00:21:05.09 if this is what God wants. 00:21:05.13\00:21:06.46 That's right. 00:21:06.49\00:21:07.83 And so, you know, my family was praying with me 00:21:07.86\00:21:10.07 and I sent the first one in, and I actually had to redo it. 00:21:10.10\00:21:13.94 Like the sound recording didn't go well 00:21:13.97\00:21:15.50 and so I sent in a second audition 00:21:15.54\00:21:17.61 and it was like, I don't know. 00:21:17.64\00:21:19.31 Is the next step gonna happen and there was this. 00:21:19.34\00:21:21.51 I really had some pushback. 00:21:21.54\00:21:22.94 I'm like because this is someone. 00:21:22.98\00:21:26.55 My mom's been doing it for 30 years. 00:21:26.58\00:21:28.05 This is someone who she is known. 00:21:28.08\00:21:30.09 And I'm like, do I want that publicity? 00:21:30.12\00:21:33.76 Do I want to be... 00:21:33.79\00:21:35.32 You know, when you walk into a store, 00:21:35.36\00:21:37.13 people would recognize her, 00:21:37.16\00:21:38.49 been Apple Valley in Berrien Springs. 00:21:38.53\00:21:40.03 And it's like, do I want that? 00:21:40.10\00:21:41.83 Is that what's right for my family? 00:21:41.86\00:21:43.40 Am I going to be a good host? 00:21:43.47\00:21:45.90 And really deliberate about it, prayed about it. 00:21:45.93\00:21:48.97 And then the next step came, 00:21:49.00\00:21:50.54 okay, do the next audition, do the next audition. 00:21:50.61\00:21:52.94 And I realized for myself, there was the feeling of... 00:21:52.97\00:21:58.08 At one point I heard there was someone else auditioning. 00:21:58.11\00:22:00.72 And I was so surprised 00:22:00.75\00:22:02.08 'cause I had this little flair, but wait. 00:22:02.12\00:22:05.22 Somebody else. I was like, I don't know. 00:22:05.25\00:22:07.39 And I was like, okay, God, maybe you are pushing this way. 00:22:07.46\00:22:10.63 And because my voice is similar to my mom's 00:22:10.66\00:22:14.10 we had talked before, 00:22:14.13\00:22:15.46 well, what if one of you girls become 00:22:15.50\00:22:17.07 or what if maybe someday you'll become the next host, 00:22:17.10\00:22:20.04 you follow in my footsteps. 00:22:20.07\00:22:21.40 So, you know, there's been talk over the years 00:22:21.44\00:22:23.81 and then with doing it, 00:22:23.84\00:22:25.74 kept each step happening, 00:22:25.77\00:22:27.11 and it's like, I don't know, God if I want the publicity 00:22:27.18\00:22:29.78 and then I'm like, but I love telling stories. 00:22:29.81\00:22:33.01 At church, I have done children stories. 00:22:33.05\00:22:35.05 I love sharing about God's love to people 00:22:35.08\00:22:37.72 and telling Jesus' stories, 00:22:37.75\00:22:39.72 and expressing that, sharing that I love it. 00:22:39.75\00:22:42.76 Yeah. 00:22:42.79\00:22:44.13 And so I was like, is this where you're leading? 00:22:44.16\00:22:46.90 And then it kept happening... 00:22:46.93\00:22:48.60 Amen. Bible lessons for children. 00:33:49.42\00:33:50.93 We do have Bible lessons in conjunction 00:33:50.96\00:33:53.03 and I see Francine is excited about this. 00:33:53.06\00:33:55.13 Our Bible lessons have been around 00:33:55.16\00:33:57.47 for about 30 years. 00:33:57.50\00:33:58.83 And it's it started as a correspondence course. 00:33:58.87\00:34:00.57 And we still have a lot of children and adults 00:34:00.64\00:34:02.90 that do a correspondence. 00:34:02.94\00:34:04.31 Beautiful pictures. 00:34:04.34\00:34:05.67 But it's a non-denominational. 00:34:05.71\00:34:07.18 Yeah. 00:34:07.21\00:34:08.54 So it's just straight from the Bible. 00:34:08.58\00:34:09.91 Amen. 00:34:09.94\00:34:11.28 And, but we decided after 30 years, 00:34:11.31\00:34:12.85 they need to be refreshed. 00:34:12.88\00:34:14.22 So the pictures you saw were some of our designs 00:34:14.25\00:34:16.92 that were refreshing them. 00:34:16.99\00:34:19.09 As we were going through them, I realized, you know what? 00:34:19.12\00:34:22.02 The content is actually really good. 00:34:22.06\00:34:23.66 Maybe change a little bit of the language, 00:34:23.73\00:34:26.26 but the content is really, really solid. 00:34:26.29\00:34:28.63 It's just the package that needed to be refreshed... 00:34:28.66\00:34:32.27 Updated. Right, updated. 00:34:32.30\00:34:33.64 So that's what we're working on. 00:34:33.67\00:34:35.90 And so we're almost halfway through. 00:34:35.94\00:34:38.51 How many lessons? 00:34:38.54\00:34:40.11 Fifty two. Yeah, 52 lessons total. 00:34:40.18\00:34:41.84 That many? Yeah. 00:34:47.65\00:34:48.98 At the end of... There's a quiz. 00:34:49.02\00:34:50.39 And each lesson comes with activities that... 00:34:50.42\00:34:55.19 Really, the activity itself 00:34:55.22\00:34:57.43 is designed to actually get the child 00:34:57.46\00:34:59.19 or whoever is going through it 00:34:59.23\00:35:00.70 using their Bible for themselves. 00:35:00.73\00:35:03.06 It's important that 00:35:03.10\00:35:04.87 as they're interacting with Bible stories 00:35:04.90\00:35:06.84 that they actually interact with their Bible. 00:35:06.87\00:35:09.20 Because I'm in a project right now 00:35:09.24\00:35:13.07 where I'm going through 00:35:13.11\00:35:14.44 all of the Your Story Hour Bible stories. 00:35:14.48\00:35:17.38 Well, as I'm doing that, I'm realizing that 00:35:17.45\00:35:20.22 while there are more than 120 different Bible stories, 00:35:20.25\00:35:24.85 individual episodes. 00:35:24.89\00:35:27.06 We don't cover all the Bible stories 00:35:27.09\00:35:29.62 in the Bible. 00:35:29.66\00:35:30.99 There are so many more. 00:35:31.03\00:35:32.36 So if a child actually learns to enjoy 00:35:32.39\00:35:35.63 and know how to be enjoy 00:35:35.66\00:35:37.80 getting into the Bible for themselves, 00:35:37.83\00:35:39.63 there's so much more that they can get into. 00:35:39.67\00:35:41.50 Right. Yeah. 00:35:41.54\00:35:42.87 And that's really the goal of, you know, 00:35:42.90\00:35:44.41 one of the goals of Your Story Hour. 00:35:44.44\00:35:46.88 It's to introduce people to children to Jesus, 00:35:46.91\00:35:50.88 but it's also to introduce a child 00:35:50.95\00:35:53.18 into the Word of God. 00:35:53.21\00:35:54.55 That's right. 00:35:54.58\00:35:55.92 And that's a really important foundation to be into. 00:35:55.95\00:35:59.59 The Bible stories 00:35:59.62\00:36:00.96 of the 52 Adventures in the Holy Bible. 00:36:00.99\00:36:03.46 They're basically four different sections, 00:36:03.53\00:36:06.70 the Life of Jesus section, 00:36:06.73\00:36:09.06 the Parables of Jesus, the Teachings of Jesus, 00:36:09.10\00:36:13.64 and then there are some collection of them 00:36:13.67\00:36:16.44 that's about making good choices. 00:36:16.47\00:36:18.77 And that goes into Bible stories 00:36:18.81\00:36:21.38 that are beyond the scope of the gospels. 00:36:21.41\00:36:24.45 Amen. 00:36:24.48\00:36:25.81 Julie, you were gonna say something. 00:36:25.85\00:36:27.22 With the Bible lessons as they... 00:36:27.25\00:36:29.52 Sorry. 00:36:29.55\00:36:30.89 No worries. 00:36:30.92\00:36:32.25 As they go through the lessons after they've completed four, 00:36:32.29\00:36:36.19 there is a reward, 00:36:36.22\00:36:37.89 they get a free Your Story Hour stories. 00:36:37.93\00:36:40.90 They get that by the time they had finished them all, 00:36:40.93\00:36:42.93 they get the whole album of The Life of Jesus. 00:36:42.96\00:36:45.80 Free? We hear... 00:39:30.10\00:39:32.70 We, well, we get letters, we get emails, 00:39:32.73\00:39:35.97 we get phone calls, 00:39:36.00\00:39:37.41 phone messages from people talking 00:39:37.44\00:39:38.97 about how it has affected their life. 00:39:39.01\00:39:40.98 I was in the office just recently, 00:39:41.01\00:39:43.85 and there was an eight-year-old girl 00:39:43.88\00:39:45.21 had left this very eloquent message 00:39:45.25\00:39:47.12 on the machine, 00:39:47.15\00:39:48.48 talking about how she wanted to follow Christ 00:39:48.52\00:39:51.72 because she had been listening to the Bible stories. 00:39:51.75\00:39:54.89 And she has now signed up for the adventures. 00:39:54.92\00:39:56.83 And there was one, Julie, about someone who had affected, 00:39:56.86\00:40:01.86 the Lord healed them from alcoholism. 00:40:01.90\00:40:03.67 Oh, yeah. 00:40:03.70\00:40:05.37 We had a new donor that had given 00:40:05.40\00:40:07.14 and as my practice kind of is I'm always curious, 00:40:07.17\00:40:09.50 you know, this is a new donor, how did they hear about us? 00:40:09.54\00:40:12.14 So I reached out to her via email. 00:40:12.17\00:40:14.44 And she shared with me 00:40:14.48\00:40:15.81 that she'd been going to church, 00:40:15.84\00:40:17.18 but she had been struggling with alcohol. 00:40:17.25\00:40:20.12 And she listened to the story 00:40:20.15\00:40:21.58 where Jesus is asking the paralytic 00:40:21.62\00:40:23.62 and he says to paralytic, "Do you want to be healed?" 00:40:23.69\00:40:26.29 And that touched her heart. 00:40:26.32\00:40:28.16 And she wanted to be healed from it. 00:40:28.19\00:40:29.76 And she stopped drinking from that. 00:40:29.79\00:40:32.23 Yeah. 00:40:32.26\00:40:33.60 It was that story that was what she needed to hear, 00:40:33.63\00:40:37.07 the Lord saying to her, "Do you want to be healed?" 00:40:37.10\00:40:40.14 So we hear from people of all ages, 00:40:40.17\00:40:42.14 how these stories have affected them 00:40:42.17\00:40:44.37 and made their choices 00:40:44.41\00:40:45.74 just like your daughter was saying. 00:40:45.77\00:40:47.11 Right. 00:40:47.18\00:40:48.51 And you mentioned, you know, it helps her make decisions. 00:40:48.54\00:40:50.35 A few years ago, I just, 00:40:50.38\00:40:52.28 this email just touched my heart 00:40:52.31\00:40:53.65 because, you know, was a young man 00:40:53.72\00:40:55.25 and he was overseas. 00:40:55.28\00:40:57.39 And he said he was at a restaurant 00:40:57.42\00:40:59.69 and the waitress gave him back too much money. 00:40:59.72\00:41:01.96 And he corrected her and the people that, 00:41:01.99\00:41:03.93 you know, kind of where it is table they were like, 00:41:03.96\00:41:05.76 surprised that he would say anything. 00:41:05.79\00:41:07.40 But there's a story and probably you've heard 00:41:07.43\00:41:09.56 it a nickel is worth of honesty. 00:41:09.60\00:41:10.97 Oh, I love that one. 00:41:11.00\00:41:12.33 And he listened to it as a child. 00:41:12.37\00:41:13.70 And even as a young adult, 00:41:13.74\00:41:15.27 that's those principles of being honest 00:41:15.30\00:41:17.54 even in the small things made an impression upon him. 00:41:17.61\00:41:20.88 And because of that, you know, he was honest 00:41:20.91\00:41:24.65 and gave the money back that wasn't owed to him. 00:41:24.68\00:41:26.38 So it's just, you know, it affects kids now 00:41:26.41\00:41:28.82 and, you know, when you're putting it 00:41:28.85\00:41:30.49 into their minds now, 00:41:30.52\00:41:32.09 later on those principles continue 00:41:32.12\00:41:34.59 to be with them. 00:41:34.62\00:41:35.96 And so that's, you know, 00:41:35.99\00:41:37.33 one of the great things about Story Hour is 00:41:37.36\00:41:38.89 it's not just for now, 00:41:38.93\00:41:40.30 it's something that carries through. 00:41:40.33\00:41:41.66 That's right. Yes. 00:41:41.70\00:41:43.40 Well, we look at the stories we've talked about, 00:41:43.47\00:41:45.40 you know, we do Bible stories, 00:41:45.43\00:41:46.77 and we do history stories, 00:41:46.84\00:41:48.37 but we also do stories that deal with bullying 00:41:48.40\00:41:52.11 or dealing with inclusion. 00:41:52.14\00:41:54.28 We have ones about... 00:41:54.31\00:41:57.81 Homelessness. Homelessness. That's right. 00:41:57.85\00:41:59.48 That's a new one that's coming out. 00:41:59.51\00:42:00.92 There's all these things that it's not just issues 00:42:00.95\00:42:03.89 that were past, they're present issues. 00:42:03.92\00:42:05.99 How do we interact with people now? 00:42:06.02\00:42:08.06 Or spiritually there was one 00:42:08.09\00:42:10.43 actually was on the screen it said hunted, 00:42:10.46\00:42:12.19 and it was about a girl 00:42:12.23\00:42:13.63 who her friend was fighting cancer. 00:42:13.70\00:42:16.16 And it was the feeling of why God, 00:42:16.20\00:42:18.70 how can You allow this? 00:42:18.73\00:42:20.14 And we all have had questions like that. 00:42:20.17\00:42:22.47 And she had an experience. 00:42:22.50\00:42:24.21 Her family, they were out riding horses, 00:42:24.24\00:42:25.74 and a bear was chasing them. 00:42:25.77\00:42:27.88 And she realized, wait a second, 00:42:27.91\00:42:30.45 Satan is out there chasing us too. 00:42:30.48\00:42:32.28 So it's not just, you know, 00:42:32.31\00:42:34.32 she then looked at the cancer in a whole different way. 00:42:34.35\00:42:36.48 So it reaches people spiritually 00:42:36.52\00:42:38.19 and moral choices. 00:42:38.22\00:42:39.62 So it's amazing hearing 00:42:39.65\00:42:41.42 how these stories have affected people 00:42:41.46\00:42:43.46 and blessed them, and... 00:42:43.53\00:42:45.46 So I grew up listening them too. 00:42:45.49\00:42:46.93 There's a story called All Things for Andrew. 00:42:47.00\00:42:49.10 Yes. 00:42:49.13\00:42:50.47 That is one of my absolute favorite stories. 00:42:50.50\00:42:52.90 It's a beautiful story. 00:42:52.93\00:42:54.27 About 'cause my husband was kind of adopted, 00:42:54.30\00:42:58.04 so it meant so much to me. 00:42:58.07\00:42:59.94 When I heard that story, I couldn't stop listening. 00:42:59.97\00:43:03.35 I said, "Honey, you got to hear this." 00:43:03.38\00:43:05.21 That's why I take it home and I put it in the CD player 00:43:05.25\00:43:09.25 and there's about Andrew how he is, 00:43:09.28\00:43:11.25 what, got in an accident? 00:43:11.29\00:43:12.62 Right. 00:43:12.65\00:43:13.99 And he found his family. 00:43:14.06\00:43:15.39 He found birth family. Biological family. 00:43:15.42\00:43:16.76 Right. Yes. 00:43:16.79\00:43:18.13 And I love that one too 00:43:18.16\00:43:19.49 'cause there's a story within the story. 00:43:19.53\00:43:20.86 So they're both... 00:43:20.90\00:43:22.23 Both of those stories are pointing how God is, 00:43:22.26\00:43:23.77 you know, you may think something 00:43:23.80\00:43:25.13 is really horrible has happened to you, 00:43:25.17\00:43:26.57 but how God is actually working 00:43:26.60\00:43:28.40 towards your benefit. 00:43:28.44\00:43:30.11 So, you know, the Andrew in the story was in an accident. 00:43:30.14\00:43:32.77 It was horrible, but because of the accident, 00:43:32.81\00:43:34.81 he got to find his biological family. 00:43:34.84\00:43:37.58 He found the Lord. Yeah, and he found... 00:43:37.65\00:43:38.98 Right. Exactly. Exactly. 00:43:39.01\00:43:40.62 So that's how the Lord works. 00:43:40.65\00:43:41.98 Yes, yes. 00:43:42.02\00:43:43.35 And it shows that all things work together for good, right? 00:43:43.39\00:43:45.89 Right. Exactly. To those that love God. 00:43:45.92\00:43:47.76 Right. Exactly. All things. 00:43:47.79\00:43:49.12 Right. Always working for our good. 00:43:49.16\00:43:50.83 Yes. 00:43:50.86\00:43:52.19 And so, Jon, you're a pastor, so... 00:43:52.23\00:43:54.30 Yes. 00:43:54.33\00:43:55.66 Did you grow up listening to Start Your Hour? 00:43:55.70\00:43:57.03 I did. 00:43:57.07\00:43:58.40 I actually don't remember not listening Your Story Hour. 00:43:58.43\00:44:02.74 My first distinct memories of Your Story Hour 00:44:02.77\00:44:06.68 were actually my parents were church school teachers 00:44:06.71\00:44:10.15 and we just moved to Northern Michigan 00:44:10.18\00:44:12.61 for a school there. 00:44:12.65\00:44:14.02 And our babysitter had a collection 00:44:14.05\00:44:16.82 of Your Story Hour recordings 00:44:16.89\00:44:20.46 on LP in a velvet case. 00:44:20.49\00:44:24.13 And so we would listen to them on the record player and we... 00:44:24.16\00:44:28.16 I know about Your Story Hour before that 00:44:28.20\00:44:30.27 because it been around since my dad was a kid. 00:44:30.30\00:44:32.67 But this was the first time 00:44:32.70\00:44:34.80 I remember any distinct remembrance of that. 00:44:34.84\00:44:37.34 And so we would listen to them at our babysitter's 00:44:37.41\00:44:40.18 and then we ended up getting a case of our own, 00:44:40.21\00:44:43.24 and so we'd listen to them at home 00:44:43.28\00:44:44.68 and later we got them on cassette. 00:44:44.71\00:44:46.35 Yes. Yeah, it's so... 00:44:46.38\00:44:48.35 Yeah. 00:44:48.38\00:44:49.72 So you're raised in. 00:44:49.75\00:44:51.09 And, you know, everyone knows who Doug Batchelor is. 00:44:51.12\00:44:54.52 His daughter Rachel was raised, 00:44:54.56\00:44:57.79 his children were raised listening to that. 00:44:57.83\00:44:59.89 Before they go to bed, 00:44:59.93\00:45:01.26 they would always listen to Your Story Hour. 00:45:01.30\00:45:04.17 You know, I really credit 00:45:04.20\00:45:07.80 the foundation of my knowledge of Bible stories 00:45:07.84\00:45:11.77 really to Your Story Hour. 00:45:11.81\00:45:14.21 And also my mother would read Uncle Arthur's Bible stories. 00:45:14.28\00:45:18.08 Oh, yes. 00:45:18.11\00:45:19.45 So between Your Story Hour and Uncle Arthur 00:45:19.48\00:45:22.72 that was what laid the foundation 00:45:22.75\00:45:25.02 for really a Bible knowledge 00:45:25.05\00:45:28.19 that is something 00:45:28.22\00:45:29.59 that I rely on. 00:45:29.62\00:45:34.00 I really rely on it. And I think that... 00:45:34.03\00:45:36.03 Especially as a pastor. 00:45:36.06\00:45:37.40 Yeah, as a pastor, I do. 00:45:37.47\00:45:38.80 But I think everybody really needs to be relying 00:45:38.83\00:45:41.64 upon an extensive Bible knowledge. 00:45:41.67\00:45:44.57 And really, unless you know the Bible stories, 00:45:44.61\00:45:48.24 many times you really can't understand the context 00:45:48.28\00:45:50.88 of the Bible teaching. 00:45:50.95\00:45:53.08 Because those stories really tell us, 00:45:53.11\00:45:55.75 okay, how does that teaching apply to real life? 00:45:55.78\00:45:59.22 Yes. Those are all there... 00:45:59.25\00:46:01.16 You know, the... 00:46:01.19\00:46:02.69 I believe it's Peter, says, they're for our example. 00:46:02.72\00:46:07.60 And if we don't know those examples, 00:46:07.63\00:46:09.76 we can't really understand 00:46:09.80\00:46:11.13 what the teaching is telling us. 00:46:11.17\00:46:12.50 That's true. 00:46:12.53\00:46:13.87 That's why it's so important 00:46:13.94\00:46:15.27 that children learn the Bible stories. 00:46:15.30\00:46:16.64 Well, you know, in it... 00:46:16.67\00:46:18.57 Many years ago when I became this position, 00:46:18.61\00:46:21.11 you know, you stop and you reflect on like, 00:46:21.14\00:46:22.84 okay, what are we here for and what are we doing? 00:46:22.88\00:46:25.95 And I went to Deuteronomy, where Moses tells them, 00:46:25.98\00:46:29.92 you need to teach these things to your children. 00:46:29.95\00:46:32.52 When you're rising in the morning, 00:46:32.55\00:46:34.62 when you're walking in the day, 00:46:34.66\00:46:36.29 when you're going to bed at night. 00:46:36.32\00:46:37.73 And I think that's Your Story Hour. 00:46:37.76\00:46:40.10 You know Story Hour is used in the morning 00:46:40.13\00:46:41.86 for worship some places, 00:46:41.90\00:46:43.77 Story Hour is used in the car when you're going places, 00:46:43.80\00:46:46.30 and Story Hour is used at night when you're going to bed. 00:46:46.33\00:46:49.30 And so that's I think, that's where we fit in 00:46:49.34\00:46:51.81 is with that we're helping parents 00:46:51.84\00:46:53.48 and helping families teach these principles 00:46:53.51\00:46:56.28 to their children, just like, you know, 00:46:56.31\00:46:58.15 they were commanded in Deuteronomy. 00:46:58.18\00:47:00.05 Teach these things to your children 00:47:00.12\00:47:01.45 because the Lord knows that we're gonna forget, 00:47:01.48\00:47:03.08 so we have to be reminded, you know, time and time again. 00:47:03.12\00:47:06.05 And through these stories and these different avenues of, 00:47:06.09\00:47:09.42 you know, reminded to be honest, 00:47:09.46\00:47:10.83 we're reminded to be faithful to God, 00:47:10.86\00:47:12.73 we're reminded to listen to our parents. 00:47:12.76\00:47:14.73 And we're reminded that you know, 00:47:14.76\00:47:16.33 okay, sometimes things are bad, but the Lord is, right. 00:47:16.36\00:47:19.37 God is good. 00:47:19.40\00:47:20.74 And God is working for your good. 00:47:20.77\00:47:22.10 Exactly. 00:47:22.14\00:47:23.51 And so that's, you know, 00:47:23.54\00:47:24.87 I think that's a really neat thing 00:47:24.91\00:47:26.24 about Your Story Hour is to be a part of that. 00:47:26.27\00:47:27.61 Yes. It's so encouraging. 00:47:27.64\00:47:28.98 Now, I'm gonna speak a little bit about funding. 00:47:29.01\00:47:30.98 Okay. 00:47:31.01\00:47:32.35 Okay, so, Julie, you're the president... 00:47:32.38\00:47:34.38 Yes. Of Your Story Hour. 00:47:34.42\00:47:37.09 So share with us how do you get funding? 00:47:37.12\00:47:39.89 Is it through, yours nondenominational, so? 00:47:39.92\00:47:42.46 Right. 00:47:42.49\00:47:43.83 How do you get funding? 00:47:43.86\00:47:45.19 We partner with individuals that listen to Your Story Hour, 00:47:45.23\00:47:49.23 so it is individual partners we get... 00:47:49.26\00:47:51.90 Once in a while we'll get a special grant. 00:47:51.93\00:47:54.04 But those are really far and few between. 00:47:54.07\00:47:56.44 And since we're nondenominational, 00:47:56.47\00:47:57.81 we're not sponsored by any church or organization, 00:47:57.84\00:48:00.98 so it is in the individual donors. 00:48:01.01\00:48:03.28 You have a staff? 00:48:03.35\00:48:04.68 We do have a staff. 00:48:04.71\00:48:06.05 We have about eight full-time people 00:48:06.08\00:48:07.42 that work at Your Story Hour. 00:48:07.45\00:48:08.78 Jon and Nicole are volunteers. 00:48:08.82\00:48:10.32 So we're always thankful for our volunteers as well. 00:48:10.39\00:48:13.36 They volunteer their time. 00:48:13.39\00:48:14.72 And, but, yeah, we do have a staff that, 00:48:14.76\00:48:17.89 you know, 'cause you have to get these programs out, 00:48:17.93\00:48:19.93 our producer, 00:48:20.00\00:48:21.33 you know, works on them, our scriptwriters, 00:48:21.36\00:48:24.17 and then the people that run the Bible school, 00:48:24.20\00:48:26.33 and then we have a Spanish director. 00:48:26.37\00:48:27.94 Oh. 00:48:27.97\00:48:29.30 And so, you know, and we have a sales team, 00:48:29.34\00:48:31.74 so that we can make these stories available 00:48:31.77\00:48:34.18 for people in their homes. 00:48:34.21\00:48:35.84 And so it's really a team. 00:48:35.88\00:48:37.25 It's kind of like a family team. 00:48:37.28\00:48:38.98 But as a team, and we... 00:48:39.01\00:48:40.35 It's our partners in ministry 00:48:40.42\00:48:41.75 that financially support us that make a difference, 00:48:41.78\00:48:45.12 you know, because, you know, people, 00:48:45.15\00:48:47.79 you know, sometimes I'll call the donors 00:48:47.82\00:48:49.19 and they like, oh, we appreciate what you do. 00:48:49.22\00:48:50.63 And it's like, you know, it's a partnership 00:48:50.66\00:48:52.69 because without you and your willingness 00:48:52.73\00:48:55.06 to help fund us, we couldn't do it. 00:48:55.10\00:48:57.27 It'd be very quiet at Story Hour, 00:48:57.30\00:48:59.00 if we didn't have those donations. 00:48:59.03\00:49:01.14 And Richard used to say to me, "Funds are low." 00:49:01.17\00:49:05.14 He would say, "Funds are low." Yes. 00:49:05.17\00:49:06.88 Funds are low. We need to pray. 00:49:06.91\00:49:08.24 So I said, "Richard, let's pray," 00:49:08.28\00:49:09.61 I'd say that to him. 00:49:09.64\00:49:10.98 And we appreciate that. Yeah. 00:49:11.01\00:49:12.35 Let's pray about this right now. 00:49:12.38\00:49:13.72 Right. 00:49:13.75\00:49:15.08 And so you're funded by the viewers and listeners? 00:49:15.12\00:49:17.72 The listeners, correct. Yeah. 00:49:17.75\00:49:19.35 Right now the viewers, isn't it right. 00:49:19.39\00:49:21.52 I always tell people be aware, I was telling my husband, 00:49:21.56\00:49:25.26 they're not just viewers, they're listeners. 00:49:25.29\00:49:26.63 Listeners. Yeah. 00:49:26.70\00:49:28.03 Because we do air some of these programs on radio. 00:49:28.06\00:49:30.37 Right, right. 00:49:30.40\00:49:31.73 These today shows, 00:49:31.77\00:49:33.10 but these are funds that are much needed to make... 00:49:33.13\00:49:35.47 They are. 00:49:35.50\00:49:36.84 You know, we run the Bible school 00:49:36.91\00:49:38.24 and it's free of charge. 00:49:38.27\00:49:39.61 And as Nicole mentioned, we give away free CDs. 00:49:39.64\00:49:41.88 So it's free to the Bible student, 00:49:41.91\00:49:43.38 but obviously there's a cost and there's cost in postage, 00:49:43.45\00:49:46.51 and there's cost in producing stories, 00:49:46.55\00:49:48.38 there's cost in on keeping the contact... 00:49:48.42\00:49:49.78 Lights are heating. Right. 00:49:49.82\00:49:51.15 Oh, yeah. 00:49:51.19\00:49:52.52 You know, we like those, 00:49:52.55\00:49:53.89 you know, to work with lights and computers, 00:49:53.96\00:49:55.29 and you know, so all of those things, 00:49:55.32\00:49:57.03 they, they're important, 00:49:57.06\00:49:59.29 you know, and the recording sessions 00:49:59.33\00:50:01.36 are important to continuing to do new stories 00:50:01.40\00:50:04.83 and we have a Spanish department. 00:50:04.87\00:50:06.94 There lot of people may not realize, 00:50:06.97\00:50:08.94 you know, that we have a Spanish department 00:50:08.97\00:50:10.44 and we want to do a recording session 00:50:10.51\00:50:11.84 for them too. 00:50:11.87\00:50:13.21 But one of the things is funding, 00:50:13.24\00:50:15.01 you know, we need, you know, 00:50:15.04\00:50:16.68 we need funding for that and we rely on the Lord. 00:50:16.75\00:50:19.21 But we believe the Lord... 00:50:19.25\00:50:21.45 It's a partnership with the Lord as well. 00:50:21.48\00:50:22.82 We can't just sit back and say, "Oh, Lord, we need this money." 00:50:22.85\00:50:25.42 You know, and we do our part to get the need made known, 00:50:25.45\00:50:28.42 but the Lord continues to bless 00:50:28.46\00:50:30.03 and continues to surprise us 00:50:30.06\00:50:32.49 and continues to fund the ministry through. 00:50:32.53\00:50:35.23 I believe that He whispers in people's ears. 00:50:35.26\00:50:36.97 I do too. 00:50:37.00\00:50:38.33 You know, saying, you know, 00:50:38.37\00:50:39.70 what about this place, you know? 00:50:39.73\00:50:41.07 They could use your help, 00:50:41.10\00:50:42.44 have you looked into helping them 00:50:42.47\00:50:43.81 and all of that? 00:50:43.84\00:50:45.17 So, you know, we're really, really grateful 00:50:45.21\00:50:47.48 for our partners in ministry. 00:50:47.51\00:50:48.84 It was kind of nice about the time 00:50:48.88\00:50:50.28 we were in the studio last Nikki and I 00:50:50.35\00:50:53.45 to record Your Story Hour 00:50:53.52\00:50:57.49 got a donation from somebody 00:50:57.52\00:51:00.66 that my family was friends with 00:51:00.69\00:51:03.36 when I was just three or four years old. 00:51:03.43\00:51:08.90 She was the church pianist. 00:51:08.93\00:51:10.67 At the church we attended 00:51:10.70\00:51:12.10 and my father was in a quartet and she played for them 00:51:12.13\00:51:15.34 and her daughter was in first grade with me. 00:51:15.37\00:51:18.84 So it was kind of the... 00:51:18.87\00:51:20.78 Her husband had passed away. 00:51:20.81\00:51:22.88 And she had sent a gift 00:51:22.91\00:51:24.38 to Your Story Hour as a memorial. 00:51:24.41\00:51:26.92 And at the time, 00:51:26.95\00:51:28.48 she sent that gift she was the newsletter, 00:51:28.52\00:51:32.42 introducing Nikki and I had gone out 00:51:32.45\00:51:34.76 and so she got to talk to Julie about how we were connected. 00:51:34.79\00:51:39.86 And she was just thrilled that little Johnny Clayburn 00:51:39.89\00:51:45.40 was now Uncle Jon. 00:51:45.43\00:51:46.77 Sweet. 00:51:46.84\00:51:48.17 Yeah, so I got to send her a nice, nice note. 00:51:48.20\00:51:50.71 Amen.
