Amen. 00:04:57.46\00:04:59.06 So let's just jump right into this 00:04:59.09\00:05:00.83 because this is fascinating. 00:05:00.90\00:05:04.07 The Gideon Rescue Company. 00:05:04.10\00:05:07.34 These young men who volunteer 00:05:07.37\00:05:12.04 and go out when there's hurricanes 00:05:12.07\00:05:14.78 or tornadoes that strike. 00:05:14.81\00:05:16.78 Tell us how you began this ministry? 00:05:16.85\00:05:21.35 You have to really begin the credit due to 00:05:21.38\00:05:24.09 Dr. Michael Duehrssen, who started the Union College, 00:05:24.12\00:05:27.36 International Rescue and Relief Program. 00:05:27.39\00:05:29.59 And he had a vision, it was incredible vision 00:05:29.62\00:05:31.53 because his whole premise was to take young people 00:05:31.56\00:05:36.03 to give them practical skills and training 00:05:36.06\00:05:38.37 to respond to disasters as first responders, 00:05:38.40\00:05:41.20 but not just to practically help people 00:05:41.24\00:05:43.00 give a helping hand, but more importantly, 00:05:43.04\00:05:44.77 to spiritually be there 00:05:44.81\00:05:46.54 to share the gospel in times of need. 00:05:46.57\00:05:49.44 Amen. 00:05:49.48\00:05:50.85 So you two met in college, is that correct? 00:05:50.88\00:05:53.18 That's right. Okay. 00:05:53.21\00:05:54.55 And give us a little... 00:05:54.58\00:05:56.22 How did you come up with the name 00:05:56.25\00:05:57.85 of the Gideon Rescue Company? 00:05:57.89\00:06:00.09 This was shortly after we finished 00:06:00.16\00:06:01.49 most of our studies at Union College 00:06:01.52\00:06:03.43 and the Lord just, I mean, 00:06:03.46\00:06:05.76 we had a real conversion experience 00:06:05.79\00:06:07.20 in our lives we saw that 00:06:07.23\00:06:09.20 God had bigger plans and a bigger vision 00:06:09.23\00:06:11.60 for our lives personally. 00:06:11.63\00:06:13.20 And so as we begin to talk about this, 00:06:13.23\00:06:15.90 one of the stories that really 00:06:15.94\00:06:17.31 was inspirational to us was the story of Gideon. 00:06:17.34\00:06:18.94 Right. 00:06:18.97\00:06:20.31 And you see some incredible things 00:06:20.38\00:06:21.71 and story of Gideon, 00:06:21.74\00:06:23.08 where here God uses a man who recognizes. 00:06:23.11\00:06:25.68 I'm the least of the least like, 00:06:25.71\00:06:28.02 and yet You would use me Lord, like I don't know 00:06:28.05\00:06:30.32 if I'm sure about this, but yeah, 00:06:30.39\00:06:31.72 God puts us in forward. 00:06:31.75\00:06:33.59 And in the end, He uses unconventional methods 00:06:33.66\00:06:37.23 to reach and save all of Israel. 00:06:37.26\00:06:40.20 You know, the torch, a pitcher, you know, 00:06:40.23\00:06:42.90 those are things that you wouldn't typically 00:06:42.93\00:06:44.40 take to a battle, 00:06:44.43\00:06:45.77 but yet in the end God wins the day. 00:06:45.80\00:06:47.97 Amen. Amen. 00:06:48.00\00:06:49.77 So the first trip to Haiti was a very humble team. 00:06:49.80\00:06:54.01 You guys didn't have money and funds and organization, 00:06:54.08\00:06:57.18 but when they came back, they were able to say 00:06:57.25\00:07:00.22 how God really made 00:07:00.25\00:07:01.68 an impossible situation work out, 00:07:01.72\00:07:03.89 so that they could be a valuable service. 00:07:03.92\00:07:06.32 And that really reached me. 00:07:06.35\00:07:09.02 I saw that God could be very personal. 00:07:09.06\00:07:11.23 And that led me to a decision. 00:07:11.26\00:07:13.03 And then further after that, to join the team too. 00:07:13.06\00:07:16.20 Amen, and that... 00:07:16.23\00:07:18.40 I love that you have scripture. 00:07:18.43\00:07:20.94 And that kind of became your model 00:07:20.97\00:07:22.90 or your mission, would you share that? 00:07:22.94\00:07:25.57 So something that we have really experienced 00:07:25.61\00:07:30.05 in Scripture is Matthew Chapter 10. 00:07:30.08\00:07:33.18 And in Matthew 10, 00:07:33.21\00:07:35.82 Jesus has sent out His 12 disciples, 00:07:35.85\00:07:38.55 and He sends them out in a very unconventional way. 00:07:38.59\00:07:42.86 And we're reading here in verse 6 or 7. 00:07:42.89\00:07:47.30 "And as you go preach, saying, 00:07:47.33\00:07:49.46 'The kingdom of heaven is at hand. 00:07:49.50\00:07:51.53 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, 00:07:51.57\00:07:53.74 raise the dead, cast out devils. 00:07:53.77\00:07:56.24 Freely you have received, freely give. 00:07:56.27\00:07:58.87 Provide neither gold nor silver 00:07:58.91\00:08:01.14 nor brass in your purses, nor scrip for your journey..." 00:08:01.18\00:08:04.48 The scrip's like a backpack. 00:08:04.51\00:08:06.31 "Neither two coats, neither shoes, nor yet staves, 00:08:06.35\00:08:09.98 for the workman is worthy of his meat." 00:08:10.02\00:08:13.66 And what we found is that we can go 00:08:13.69\00:08:17.76 without knowing everything in advance 00:08:17.79\00:08:20.10 without having everything predetermined preset, 00:08:20.13\00:08:23.47 we can go on faith, trusting that God's 00:08:23.50\00:08:26.97 gonna make it work out. 00:08:27.04\00:08:29.14 And that's really 00:08:29.17\00:08:31.37 how a disaster situation has to be 00:08:31.41\00:08:33.01 because how can you arrange everything 00:08:33.04\00:08:35.61 in a place ahead of time. 00:08:35.64\00:08:36.98 You don't know 00:08:37.05\00:08:38.38 where the disaster is going to hit. 00:08:38.41\00:08:39.75 And you don't have connections all over the world. 00:08:39.78\00:08:42.22 And we're an international response team. 00:08:42.25\00:08:43.99 So we go as prepared as we can be, 00:08:44.02\00:08:46.99 but the Lord has to do so much that we are just unable to do. 00:08:47.06\00:08:51.46 Amen. 00:08:51.49\00:08:53.60 I mean, we had to put out prayer. 00:08:53.63\00:08:54.96 So truly willing vessels. 00:08:55.00\00:08:57.27 Oh, yeah. Most certainly. 00:08:57.30\00:08:59.50 And truly surrendered and willing to lead... 00:08:59.53\00:09:02.94 or follow the lead of the Holy Spirit. 00:09:02.97\00:09:04.64 Yes. 00:09:04.67\00:09:06.01 So now, Chris, your first experience 00:09:06.04\00:09:08.08 was in Panama City, right? 00:09:08.11\00:09:09.94 Yes, Ma'am. 00:09:09.98\00:09:11.31 When Panama City got hit by a hurricane, 00:09:11.35\00:09:14.52 Brock called me up a week before it, 00:09:14.55\00:09:16.58 we actually hadn't any clue what was going to be happening, 00:09:16.62\00:09:18.99 and they encouraged me to join the team. 00:09:19.02\00:09:21.79 And my first question was, I'm not medical, 00:09:21.82\00:09:24.26 I have no training for medical 00:09:24.33\00:09:25.99 and how can I be of service to this? 00:09:26.03\00:09:27.53 And his response was very much, 00:09:27.60\00:09:30.40 well, you can be a logistics coordinator. 00:09:30.47\00:09:33.34 And I was like, that's fine, Brock. 00:09:33.37\00:09:34.84 But what does one do as a logistics coordinator? 00:09:34.87\00:09:39.17 And then we came to conclusion that we, 00:09:39.21\00:09:41.38 you know, sometimes life is figured out as you go, 00:09:41.41\00:09:43.75 and that's kind of what we've done. 00:09:43.78\00:09:46.28 And a week later, he calls me up and says, 00:09:46.31\00:09:49.15 "Well, you've been called up, it's time to for active duty." 00:09:49.18\00:09:52.82 And I'm like, "What do you mean?" 00:09:52.85\00:09:54.42 He's like, well, 00:09:54.46\00:09:55.79 "We really need you to go to Panama City, 00:09:55.82\00:09:58.76 to be active down there." 00:09:58.79\00:10:00.13 And I'm like... 00:10:00.20\00:10:01.53 So, you knew this was actually even before the hurricane? 00:10:01.56\00:10:03.77 You just knew it was growing in intensity 00:10:03.80\00:10:07.44 and he had you going? 00:10:07.47\00:10:08.90 Well, I had no clue that there was a hurricane 00:10:08.94\00:10:10.97 in the coast, off the coast. 00:10:11.01\00:10:12.44 That was not something that I was planning for. 00:10:12.47\00:10:14.28 Yeah. 00:10:14.31\00:10:15.74 But I was willing and a week later 00:10:15.78\00:10:17.78 when he called me, it was a lot of heart searching 00:10:17.81\00:10:20.72 to figure out if this is gonna be 00:10:20.75\00:10:22.18 something that I was truly gonna 00:10:22.22\00:10:24.35 bite the bullet and do, 00:10:24.39\00:10:25.95 but it was one of the best adventures of my life. 00:10:25.99\00:10:28.89 Well, I know that you guys... 00:10:28.92\00:10:31.13 As you just read from Matthew Chapter 10. 00:10:31.16\00:10:35.53 You go with very little, you've got what did you say 00:10:35.56\00:10:40.54 you took a backpack with some water and... 00:10:40.57\00:10:44.51 Trail mix, backpack, a water bottle... 00:10:44.54\00:10:47.38 That's how we travel. A sleeping bag. 00:10:47.41\00:10:50.25 I think that was pretty... And I had some... 00:10:50.28\00:10:51.85 I had a box of literature. 00:10:51.88\00:10:53.62 And I think, I brought one copy 00:10:53.65\00:10:57.59 of the Great Controversy maybe. 00:10:57.62\00:10:58.95 Okay. 00:10:58.99\00:11:00.36 Now, and I wanna get to that point 00:11:00.39\00:11:02.16 because this touched me so much as we were talking 00:11:02.19\00:11:06.39 with him right before the interview. 00:11:06.43\00:11:08.56 And that is, let's talk about the Golden Hour. 00:11:08.60\00:11:12.73 When disaster strikes, and there's all kinds of teams 00:11:12.77\00:11:17.97 showing up from different things. 00:11:18.01\00:11:20.58 But what makes your team different 00:11:20.61\00:11:24.05 is the spiritual ministry is number one on your list. 00:11:24.08\00:11:29.65 Let's talk about the Golden Hour. 00:11:29.68\00:11:31.35 Absolutely. 00:11:31.39\00:11:32.79 So in pre hospital medicine, we have a concept 00:11:32.82\00:11:36.36 that's very popular, and most people understand 00:11:36.39\00:11:38.99 and that is there's a Golden Hour 00:11:39.03\00:11:41.10 from the time an accident occurs. 00:11:41.13\00:11:43.20 We have fast ambulances, we have fast helicopters 00:11:43.23\00:11:46.43 for the reason that we can pick those patients up 00:11:46.47\00:11:48.27 and get them to definitive care 00:11:48.30\00:11:50.14 as quickly as possible to save life and limb. 00:11:50.21\00:11:53.27 Now, what's interesting 00:11:53.31\00:11:54.64 as we've responded to these disasters, 00:11:54.68\00:11:56.21 we've discovered that there's a parallel principle 00:11:56.24\00:11:59.11 in the spiritual realm. 00:11:59.15\00:12:01.22 Meaning that from the time an accident occurs 00:12:01.25\00:12:05.29 or even a disaster occurs, 00:12:05.32\00:12:07.69 then people are hurting 00:12:07.72\00:12:11.06 and they need help. 00:12:11.09\00:12:12.43 Not just physically, 00:12:12.46\00:12:13.80 but most importantly, spiritually. 00:12:13.83\00:12:15.16 Amen. 00:12:15.20\00:12:16.53 In fact, there's an old adage, and probably most of us 00:12:16.56\00:12:18.70 have heard it at some point or another. 00:12:18.73\00:12:20.24 But you know, 00:12:20.27\00:12:21.60 you can live weeks without food, 00:12:21.64\00:12:24.11 days without water, minutes without air, 00:12:24.14\00:12:26.61 but you can't live a moment without hope. 00:12:26.68\00:12:28.34 Amen. And how true. 00:12:28.38\00:12:30.75 So have you found that when you're talking about 00:12:30.78\00:12:33.52 the Golden Hour, when you arrive, 00:12:33.55\00:12:35.72 and you get there really quickly, how open... 00:12:35.75\00:12:39.59 I mean, let's talk about the kinds of services you do 00:12:39.62\00:12:42.09 because sometimes 00:12:42.12\00:12:43.46 when you think of search and rescue, you're thinking 00:12:43.53\00:12:45.79 and I'm sure you get involved in that, 00:12:45.83\00:12:47.40 we see their equipment here, the helmet and the rope 00:12:47.43\00:12:51.17 and then this that they're using, 00:12:51.20\00:12:53.44 and we might think you may be pulling someone 00:12:53.47\00:12:56.17 out of water, out of a dangerous situation, 00:12:56.20\00:12:58.74 but really a lot of what you do 00:12:58.77\00:13:02.14 and let's just talk about Hurricane Dorian, 00:13:02.18\00:13:04.78 where you were all in the Bahamas. 00:13:04.81\00:13:07.75 A lot of what you do is simple enough that 00:13:07.78\00:13:12.42 I could do it. 00:13:12.45\00:13:14.06 I could be a part of this search and rescue team. 00:13:14.09\00:13:18.43 Tell us about the people that you prayed with. 00:13:18.46\00:13:23.00 And well, let's just go into the whole Hurricane Dorian 00:13:23.03\00:13:27.04 and how God provided for their needs 00:13:27.07\00:13:29.87 when they had no idea they just showed up. 00:13:29.90\00:13:32.91 And there's so many things that happened. 00:13:32.94\00:13:36.11 Let's talk about the plane. 00:13:36.14\00:13:37.68 Let's talk about the supplies that were coming 00:13:37.71\00:13:41.55 and then how God met your needs? 00:13:41.58\00:13:43.08 Absolutely. 00:13:43.12\00:13:45.55 We actually in Hurricane Michael 00:13:45.59\00:13:48.16 was the first time I'd worked with a group 00:13:48.19\00:13:49.62 called Arrow Bridge. 00:13:49.66\00:13:51.43 And this is a group that 00:13:51.46\00:13:53.16 is not a faith based group. 00:13:53.19\00:13:55.16 But we had a real awesome conversation with them 00:13:55.20\00:13:58.00 and they saw the potential 00:13:58.03\00:14:00.84 to where we could team up together 00:14:00.87\00:14:02.94 and Arrow Bridge is a flight broker. 00:14:02.97\00:14:05.34 So they basically offer air, you know, air. 00:14:05.37\00:14:09.31 Transport. Yeah, transportation. 00:14:09.34\00:14:12.25 And this when we say flight broker, 00:14:12.28\00:14:13.62 these would be people 00:14:13.65\00:14:14.98 who are volunteering their air craft 00:14:15.02\00:14:16.35 to be used for disaster? 00:14:16.38\00:14:17.72 Yeah, they're volunteering their time, 00:14:17.75\00:14:19.09 general aviation volunteer their time, 00:14:19.12\00:14:20.46 their pilots their fuel, to fly supplies, 00:14:20.49\00:14:22.69 medical personnel, 00:14:22.72\00:14:24.33 anything that's really needed in a disaster scene. 00:14:24.36\00:14:27.60 These people sign up for these missions. 00:14:27.63\00:14:29.90 And so this was the first time 00:14:29.93\00:14:32.33 we actually had worked with them. 00:14:32.37\00:14:33.74 And it was an amazing experience 00:14:33.77\00:14:36.07 where these guys, 00:14:36.10\00:14:37.61 the three of these guys here in Florida were able to 00:14:37.64\00:14:40.61 be the point of contact on the ground 00:14:40.68\00:14:42.41 to distribute all of this food, water, 00:14:42.44\00:14:44.38 aid that was coming into the Panhandle, 00:14:44.41\00:14:46.58 Florida that time. 00:14:46.61\00:14:48.08 The air bridge flew an over 40 private planes 00:14:48.12\00:14:50.99 worth of supplies in the Hurricane Michael, 00:14:51.02\00:14:54.56 that was in 2018. 00:14:54.59\00:14:56.66 And it was really a good seamless exercise there 00:14:56.73\00:15:01.16 because they flew in the supplies, 00:15:01.20\00:15:03.47 we stored them at the hangar, and we brought them 00:15:03.50\00:15:06.17 to the local church, and then to serve. 00:15:06.20\00:15:09.44 They bring in church academy kids, 00:15:09.47\00:15:12.77 and they hand out the supplies. 00:15:12.81\00:15:14.28 So then they operated at the point of distribution 00:15:14.31\00:15:16.31 for two weeks. 00:15:16.34\00:15:18.28 And our POD, point of distribution 00:15:18.31\00:15:21.38 had many things that the normal 00:15:21.42\00:15:24.79 and regular pods didn't have them. 00:15:24.82\00:15:26.96 The normal pods just have like food and water and ice. 00:15:26.99\00:15:29.19 And we had all kinds of things, 00:15:29.22\00:15:32.09 sleeping bags and phone chargers and, 00:15:32.13\00:15:35.10 I mean, you name it. 00:15:35.13\00:15:36.90 And it was good. 00:15:36.97\00:15:38.30 But the most important thing that you had 00:15:38.33\00:15:41.10 is what you have found is the most important thing. 00:15:41.14\00:15:46.44 And that is something written material 00:15:46.47\00:15:50.25 that can give people hope. 00:15:50.28\00:15:51.91 So when you were in... You've got this now. 00:15:51.95\00:15:55.32 I mean, God has arranged for you, 00:15:55.35\00:15:58.12 your small group, you didn't have planes, 00:15:58.15\00:16:02.42 you didn't have... 00:16:02.46\00:16:04.53 Now you have a whole network of planes 00:16:04.56\00:16:06.80 available to you. 00:16:06.83\00:16:08.16 You don't have to worry about the upkeep. 00:16:08.20\00:16:10.07 But when you get there, tell us what happened 00:16:10.10\00:16:12.60 when you arrived in the Bahamas? 00:16:12.63\00:16:15.34 Because these guys just show up, 00:16:15.37\00:16:18.64 they have no idea where they're going, 00:16:18.67\00:16:20.98 they're just trusting the Lord, 00:16:21.01\00:16:22.71 they're praying all the time and they show up and say, 00:16:22.74\00:16:25.25 okay, Lord, now what? 00:16:25.28\00:16:26.61 So what happened when you get to the Bahamas? 00:16:26.65\00:16:28.48 Hurricane Dorian was a unique storm, 00:16:28.52\00:16:32.22 in the sense that it was unprecedented. 00:16:32.25\00:16:33.99 We've never seen a storm of this magnitude, 00:16:34.06\00:16:36.83 size, strength, local... 00:16:36.86\00:16:40.40 Duration? Yeah, duration. 00:16:40.43\00:16:42.53 It sat on the Bahamas for days. 00:16:42.56\00:16:44.97 And that was something that they just hadn't seen before. 00:16:45.00\00:16:46.74 Yeah. 00:16:46.77\00:16:48.10 So when we talk about 00:16:48.14\00:16:49.47 the scale of how large this disaster was, 00:16:49.50\00:16:52.04 it truly was much larger 00:16:52.07\00:16:53.41 and I think we can even picture, 00:16:53.48\00:16:55.58 and so it took some time to get to the Bahamas actually. 00:16:55.61\00:16:59.38 Because you got to wait for the storm to pass, 00:16:59.41\00:17:01.18 you know, the weather was not safe enough to fly. 00:17:01.22\00:17:03.72 And so it took a few days waiting on the ground, 00:17:03.79\00:17:05.52 which was a trying experience for us as a team 00:17:05.55\00:17:07.46 as we're ready to go. 00:17:07.49\00:17:08.82 But we waited and the Lord actually... 00:17:08.86\00:17:10.96 finally was able to provide a plane 00:17:10.99\00:17:14.23 that was able to take us into the Bahamas. 00:17:14.30\00:17:18.33 And the Bahamas are network of islands. 00:17:18.37\00:17:20.04 They're not very high in elevation, five feet. 00:17:20.07\00:17:23.71 Yeah, so I mean, 00:17:23.74\00:17:25.07 the storms just caught a little bit. 00:17:25.11\00:17:26.44 But the plane that took us in was 00:17:26.47\00:17:28.04 just a private individual who own this jet 00:17:28.08\00:17:31.38 that he flew down from Ohio and picked us up 00:17:31.41\00:17:34.48 and was graciously taking us into Marsh Harbor was our goal, 00:17:34.52\00:17:39.55 our direction that we're headed. 00:17:39.59\00:17:41.12 One of the hardest hit places. 00:17:41.16\00:17:43.66 And he inserted us there and it was just incredibly, 00:17:43.73\00:17:46.56 every step of the way God was leading, opening doors, 00:17:46.59\00:17:49.36 guiding, directing, as we're praying, 00:17:49.40\00:17:51.73 and just humbly willing to go where God would send us. 00:17:51.77\00:17:55.44 And so we ended up at the main airport there 00:17:55.47\00:17:57.84 in Marsh Harbor and it was in fact 00:17:57.87\00:18:01.11 one of the few buildings on the island 00:18:01.14\00:18:03.04 that was still standing. 00:18:03.08\00:18:04.58 Everything else was completely gone. 00:18:04.61\00:18:07.95 So you've got all of this material 00:18:07.98\00:18:11.72 that's going to be coming in from the plane. 00:18:11.75\00:18:14.59 Where were you gonna set up? 00:18:14.62\00:18:15.96 I mean, how did God handle that? 00:18:15.99\00:18:19.46 You know, we certainly go in not knowing. 00:18:19.49\00:18:21.86 But God gave us the best accommodations 00:18:21.90\00:18:24.90 on the island really. 00:18:24.93\00:18:26.94 Won't you tell them about it? All right. 00:18:26.97\00:18:30.41 The airport itself has a block building 00:18:30.44\00:18:33.58 for the customs, 00:18:33.61\00:18:34.94 agency when you fly into the island 00:18:34.98\00:18:36.51 and one of power I had a diesel generator 00:18:36.54\00:18:40.02 that was still allowing power to be provided. 00:18:40.05\00:18:43.12 It didn't have running water, but it did provide 00:18:43.15\00:18:45.25 like a secure environment as a food product in that 00:18:45.29\00:18:49.19 we could be able to store it until we can find a network 00:18:49.22\00:18:51.96 to be able to provide and pass our product. 00:18:51.99\00:18:56.03 But you've got other people who are coming to be 00:18:56.06\00:18:58.30 able to help out, other professional teams. 00:18:58.33\00:19:01.10 And we were able to build a relationship 00:19:01.14\00:19:03.34 with the airport manager. 00:19:03.41\00:19:04.81 And he gave us the customs area that was 00:19:04.84\00:19:08.68 and we cleaned it up a little bit, 00:19:08.71\00:19:10.05 but it was a prime spot of any spot on the island 00:19:10.08\00:19:12.71 to be able to securely store what we were flying in 00:19:12.75\00:19:17.52 before we could actually start passing things out. 00:19:17.59\00:19:19.92 And saying note on that, you have to realize that 00:19:19.95\00:19:21.46 in a disaster scene space is a premium. 00:19:21.49\00:19:24.76 I bet. 00:19:24.79\00:19:26.13 So location, location, location, right? 00:19:26.16\00:19:28.46 I mean, it's, location is everything. 00:19:28.50\00:19:31.03 And so the space that we were given, 00:19:31.07\00:19:32.97 I mean, these are teams 00:19:33.00\00:19:34.34 from around the world, you know, 00:19:34.37\00:19:35.70 the United States was there with their military. 00:19:35.74\00:19:37.61 I mean, everybody's, they're looking for a space 00:19:37.64\00:19:39.11 to set up their headquarters, the place to operate out of, 00:19:39.14\00:19:41.88 and here we were given this incredible open, 00:19:41.91\00:19:46.18 you know, customs and immigration space, 00:19:46.21\00:19:49.65 all for the use that that we needed for supplies. 00:19:49.68\00:19:52.39 And there were so many people who were then coming, 00:19:52.42\00:19:55.62 God actually was drawing the people to you 00:19:55.66\00:19:58.96 because they were trying to get off the island. 00:19:58.99\00:20:01.10 The devastation was so complete 00:20:01.13\00:20:03.80 that the name of the whole situation 00:20:03.87\00:20:06.67 was evacuation. 00:20:06.74\00:20:08.14 People were not gonna stay and they were trying to get off 00:20:08.17\00:20:11.04 as quickly as they could. 00:20:11.07\00:20:12.41 And so thousands of people were coming to the airport, 00:20:12.44\00:20:15.18 thousands of people were down at the port, 00:20:15.21\00:20:16.95 thousands of people were at the clinic 00:20:16.98\00:20:18.95 trying to get any transportation method 00:20:18.98\00:20:22.18 they could to leave the island. 00:20:22.22\00:20:23.59 Yeah. 00:20:23.62\00:20:24.95 You know, I have to just say one thing that 00:20:24.99\00:20:26.32 what amazes me is that we hear about like 00:20:26.35\00:20:29.29 the Red Cross or ADRA, 00:20:29.32\00:20:31.03 even you know with the Adventist Church. 00:20:31.06\00:20:34.53 I didn't know that there were people 00:20:34.56\00:20:37.73 in general aviation 00:20:37.77\00:20:39.37 who are willing to fly their planes and do all this. 00:20:39.40\00:20:43.04 This is wonderful. 00:20:43.07\00:20:44.54 But many of these programs go down 00:20:44.57\00:20:47.58 and they are handing out food and water. 00:20:47.61\00:20:51.31 But like you've said, there is that 00:20:51.35\00:20:55.05 immediate need for hope. 00:20:55.08\00:20:58.22 Tell us how you're meeting that need? 00:20:58.25\00:21:03.63 I can share that 00:21:03.66\00:21:04.99 in one of the personal experiences 00:21:05.03\00:21:07.50 we had, there was a family there. 00:21:07.53\00:21:10.50 And we had been giving them some water and food. 00:21:10.57\00:21:13.54 And afterwards we just offered, we said, may we pray with you. 00:21:13.57\00:21:17.94 And they melted. 00:21:17.97\00:21:19.31 I mean, they were just in tears, 00:21:19.34\00:21:20.88 you know, and they gathered their entire family around 00:21:20.91\00:21:23.04 and we gathered our team 00:21:23.08\00:21:24.41 around with them, and we prayed with them. 00:21:24.45\00:21:26.11 And it wasn't anything complicated, 00:21:26.15\00:21:27.52 other than that, 00:21:27.55\00:21:28.88 we just asked that the Lord would be with them, 00:21:28.92\00:21:30.25 would guide them, would sustain them, 00:21:30.29\00:21:31.62 protect them, comfort them. 00:21:31.65\00:21:33.76 And afterwards, they said, thank you so much, 00:21:33.79\00:21:39.46 you're the first people to pray with us 00:21:39.49\00:21:42.46 after this disaster. 00:21:42.50\00:21:44.27 That breaks your heart. 00:21:44.30\00:21:45.63 You know, I mean, because you realize like, 00:21:45.67\00:21:47.00 wow, these people have been here for days 00:21:47.04\00:21:48.37 before we've even arrived. 00:21:48.40\00:21:49.94 And, you know, it's an incredible, 00:21:50.01\00:21:52.74 stressful time they've been through. 00:21:52.77\00:21:54.11 Sure. 00:21:54.18\00:21:55.51 But one of your primary objectives 00:21:55.54\00:21:57.98 is to hand out GLOW tracks or books. 00:21:58.01\00:22:03.02 Was it you, Kory, that handed a woman a book, 00:22:03.05\00:22:05.85 who said that, tell us that story? 00:22:05.89\00:22:08.09 I gave out a Great Controversy. 00:22:08.12\00:22:10.63 And I don't know how, but she recognized the book. 00:22:10.66\00:22:12.89 She's like, I've been wanting this book. 00:22:12.93\00:22:14.63 Thank you so much. I was like, Wow, amazing. 00:22:14.66\00:22:17.50 Awesome. Yeah. 00:22:17.57\00:22:18.90 But she'd been there for days 00:22:18.93\00:22:20.27 without anything to read, right? 00:22:20.30\00:22:21.64 Yeah, yeah. 00:22:21.67\00:22:23.27 She said, I've been here for days. 00:22:23.30\00:22:24.81 Thank you so much. Now I have something to read. 00:22:24.84\00:22:27.71 And, I mean, you're there 00:22:27.74\00:22:29.08 you don't have phones working. 00:22:29.11\00:22:30.45 You don't have internet and you have, you know, 00:22:30.48\00:22:34.52 something good to put your mind on is a blessing. 00:22:34.55\00:22:36.89 And I would imagine, 00:22:36.92\00:22:38.25 I mean, this is getting into a land 00:22:38.29\00:22:39.62 that I don't know anything about. 00:22:39.65\00:22:40.99 But I imagine the people just kinda hover around 00:22:41.02\00:22:44.03 where there a focal point... 00:22:44.06\00:22:46.03 They do, that was the airport. 00:22:46.06\00:22:47.40 Where there is food, there is water, 00:22:47.43\00:22:48.76 where there is some type of supplies, 00:22:48.80\00:22:51.50 and so there really isn't anything for them to do. 00:22:51.53\00:22:54.57 Now I know with Patrick, I think that Patrick 00:22:54.60\00:22:56.71 one of his loves is the printed word. 00:22:56.74\00:22:59.84 And I think, Patrick, 00:22:59.87\00:23:01.21 did you not hand out lots of literature? 00:23:01.24\00:23:04.51 Yes, sir. Yes. 00:23:04.55\00:23:05.88 And people were that's what they would rather, 00:23:05.91\00:23:08.48 some people were wanting to when we were trying to hand out 00:23:08.52\00:23:11.35 food and water, they would... 00:23:11.39\00:23:13.25 they didn't want the water or food, 00:23:13.29\00:23:14.69 they was wanted the reading materials 00:23:14.72\00:23:17.13 that was in and out. 00:23:17.16\00:23:18.79 Yeah, it is incredible. 00:23:18.83\00:23:20.20 You know, that, as you'd hand somebody 00:23:20.23\00:23:22.63 a water bottle, they would say, no, thank you. 00:23:22.66\00:23:25.60 I'm okay on the water. Wow. 00:23:25.63\00:23:27.44 But they would say, I want the book in your hand. 00:23:27.47\00:23:30.41 I want the tract in your hand. That's amazing. 00:23:30.44\00:23:32.51 And that proves this principle that we see, 00:23:32.54\00:23:36.85 where the number one need in a disaster 00:23:36.88\00:23:39.18 or crisis situation is not what we typically think, 00:23:39.21\00:23:41.92 food, water, safety, those things are important, 00:23:41.95\00:23:43.99 we don't deny that and we try to provide that 00:23:44.02\00:23:45.89 as best as we can. 00:23:45.92\00:23:47.36 But you can't live a moment without hope. 00:23:47.39\00:23:51.29 What pushes you forward, when you've lost everything 00:23:51.33\00:23:53.16 when you've encountered an incredible crisis? 00:23:53.19\00:23:55.23 What pushes you forward to continue the next 24 hour? 00:23:55.26\00:23:58.10 Yeah. 00:23:58.13\00:23:59.57 And that's what people are hurting for is hope. 00:23:59.60\00:24:01.37 Amen. 00:24:01.40\00:24:02.74 You know, I remember after 911, 00:24:02.77\00:24:04.31 how there was that golden moment after 911, 00:24:04.34\00:24:08.61 when everybody was in the church. 00:24:08.64\00:24:11.48 I mean, everybody was... 00:24:11.51\00:24:13.65 it was kind of like a spiritual wake up call. 00:24:13.72\00:24:16.69 But then you see, it begins to... 00:24:16.72\00:24:18.79 if you didn't meet that need when they needed it, 00:24:18.82\00:24:22.19 it begins to wane. 00:24:22.22\00:24:24.16 So you all are there with materials. 00:24:24.23\00:24:27.83 And I know that, Chris, 00:24:27.86\00:24:30.17 you used to work for Pacific Press. 00:24:30.20\00:24:31.60 Yes, ma'am. 00:24:31.63\00:24:32.97 So, tell us about these waterproof GLOW tracts 00:24:33.00\00:24:36.71 because that's really important in this disaster. 00:24:36.74\00:24:39.44 Fair enough. 00:24:39.47\00:24:40.81 So different perspectives, 00:24:40.88\00:24:42.24 but like if you were to hand someone a bottle of water, 00:24:42.28\00:24:46.72 if it has any moisture on the bottle at all, 00:24:46.75\00:24:49.45 then, and you're also handing them a GLOW track 00:24:49.48\00:24:51.29 or sharing material or paper doesn't always hold up 00:24:51.32\00:24:54.72 real well when it gets wet. 00:24:54.76\00:24:57.23 And so there is a process to be able to 00:24:57.26\00:24:59.19 actually water proof GLOW tracts 00:24:59.23\00:25:01.46 or sharing material. 00:25:01.50\00:25:03.23 So that when you get into these situations 00:25:03.26\00:25:05.40 that it's more durable, it's able to withstand 00:25:05.43\00:25:07.84 some of these disaster environments 00:25:07.87\00:25:10.97 and to be that much more productive 00:25:11.01\00:25:13.14 and you know, maybe it's just not just 00:25:13.17\00:25:14.51 one person who receives it, 00:25:14.54\00:25:15.88 but if they're able to share that themselves, 00:25:15.91\00:25:18.18 then it's able to last longer 00:25:18.21\00:25:19.78 and be more productive if you will. 00:25:19.81\00:25:22.18 And it's not that just... 00:25:22.22\00:25:23.59 Wait a minute, one thing I just want you to, 00:25:23.62\00:25:25.19 because it just occurred to me. 00:25:25.22\00:25:26.55 There are people who are watching here going, 00:25:26.59\00:25:28.32 what's a GLOW tract? 00:25:28.36\00:25:29.69 Yes, fair enough. 00:25:29.72\00:25:31.06 So explain what a GLOW track is? 00:25:31.09\00:25:32.43 Okay. 00:25:32.46\00:25:33.80 So it's a small piece of literature, 00:25:33.83\00:25:35.16 it may be like a multiple fold. 00:25:35.20\00:25:37.37 So it may tell a small story 00:25:37.40\00:25:39.27 or may tell a small biblical fact, 00:25:39.30\00:25:41.97 something to you, give perspective, 00:25:42.00\00:25:45.14 maybe if it's a natural disaster. 00:25:45.17\00:25:46.51 Why is this natural disaster happening? 00:25:46.54\00:25:48.14 What is, you know, 00:25:48.18\00:25:49.84 spiritually what impact is this having? 00:25:49.88\00:25:52.98 So it's not a full book, but a small pamphlet, 00:25:53.01\00:25:56.99 if you will. 00:25:57.02\00:25:58.35 Okay. Okay. They're dynamite. 00:25:58.39\00:26:00.49 I mean, these little tracts are dynamite. 00:26:00.56\00:26:02.29 We love these things. 00:26:02.32\00:26:03.66 Because they really do like what Chris is saying. 00:26:03.73\00:26:05.83 They... 00:26:05.86\00:26:07.20 different topics, you know, where is God when I'm hurting? 00:26:07.23\00:26:09.43 Why are natural disasters increasing? 00:26:09.46\00:26:12.30 Hope in times of uncertainty, I mean, like, 00:26:12.33\00:26:14.74 it's just every topic seems to have a place 00:26:14.77\00:26:17.64 for whatever conversation or interaction that you have. 00:26:17.67\00:26:20.08 I mean, people... 00:26:20.11\00:26:21.44 it's like, wow, wait, hold on one moment, 00:26:21.48\00:26:23.24 I have the exact tract that will match 00:26:23.28\00:26:26.75 whatever situation you're facing. 00:26:26.82\00:26:29.12 And so it just, I mean, incredible even some, 00:26:29.15\00:26:31.55 I remember one of the gentlemen we were sitting next to, 00:26:31.59\00:26:33.79 he was in a state of shell shock. 00:26:33.86\00:26:36.73 And here we were, just give, make sure he had food, water. 00:26:36.76\00:26:40.00 And he said, you know, 00:26:40.03\00:26:42.90 I've never thought about these things. 00:26:42.93\00:26:44.37 But this world, it's changing. 00:26:44.40\00:26:47.24 You know, things are changing. 00:26:47.27\00:26:48.60 And so we were able to share with him 00:26:48.64\00:26:50.01 from that point forward. 00:26:50.04\00:26:51.37 Well, what does the Bible have to say about this? 00:26:51.41\00:26:53.14 Like, why do we see the world changing around us? 00:26:53.17\00:26:56.01 So, they're just incredible ways 00:26:56.04\00:26:57.55 to open up the conversation because at the end of the day, 00:26:57.58\00:27:01.22 what people really want to know is, 00:27:01.25\00:27:03.99 where am I headed? Where am I going? 00:27:04.02\00:27:05.95 You know, and what is the purpose? 00:27:05.99\00:27:07.36 What is the meaning? 00:27:07.39\00:27:08.72 Life without purpose, life without meaning, 00:27:08.76\00:27:10.09 life without vision, what's the point? 00:27:10.13\00:27:13.16 Amen. Amen. 00:27:13.19\00:27:15.20 Well, to me what's amazing is, 00:27:15.23\00:27:17.17 is that there are people 00:27:17.20\00:27:19.27 that specialize in all different areas. 00:27:19.30\00:27:21.04 There are some people that are able to give. 00:27:21.07\00:27:22.84 So they're gonna give the pallets of water, 00:27:22.87\00:27:25.01 some good pallets of food, 00:27:25.04\00:27:27.28 but you're here to help distribute, 00:27:27.31\00:27:29.51 is that right? 00:27:29.54\00:27:31.18 Well, we have... 00:27:31.21\00:27:34.22 are we supposed to answer that? 00:27:34.25\00:27:35.58 All right, just go for it. Okay. 00:27:35.62\00:27:36.99 We have training in lots of areas. 00:27:37.02\00:27:39.19 Amen. 00:27:39.22\00:27:40.76 And we have technical training, the rope rescues, 00:27:40.79\00:27:42.82 swift waters, rescue boat, medical, 00:27:42.86\00:27:46.29 but anybody could do what we do for the most part. 00:27:46.33\00:27:51.43 We go in there and whatever the needs are, 00:27:51.47\00:27:54.54 that's what we'll do. 00:27:54.57\00:27:55.90 So if the place needs cleaned up 00:27:55.94\00:27:58.17 and need to pick up trash, 00:27:58.21\00:27:59.54 we'll do that, and that opens doors too. 00:27:59.57\00:28:01.24 If they need medical, we'll do that. 00:28:01.28\00:28:04.81 A lot of people look at these disaster situations 00:28:04.85\00:28:06.58 and they're like, 00:28:06.61\00:28:07.95 oh, that's for that group of professionals. 00:28:07.98\00:28:11.32 But if you are able to go in there 00:28:11.35\00:28:15.36 and have something to offer, if you have a heart 00:28:15.39\00:28:17.89 that's submitted to Christ and you wanna serve people, 00:28:17.93\00:28:22.13 you're gonna find lots of needs 00:28:22.16\00:28:23.60 and lots of opportunities to do that. 00:28:23.67\00:28:25.57 And you don't need... 00:28:25.60\00:28:28.24 Man, you don't have to be a professional. 00:28:28.27\00:28:30.04 So you don't have to be an EMT then to be on the front line? 00:28:30.11\00:28:34.11 It's good and it opens the doors 00:28:34.18\00:28:36.01 and if you can get it and this is 00:28:36.04\00:28:37.45 that's your calling, great. 00:28:37.48\00:28:38.81 Amen. 00:28:38.85\00:28:40.18 But you don't have to have that. 00:28:40.22\00:28:41.55 No. Amen. 00:28:41.58\00:28:42.92 I don't have that. 00:28:42.95\00:28:45.82 Yeah, you know, we see this a lot. 00:28:45.85\00:28:48.39 You know, people I think unfortunate the way 00:28:48.42\00:28:50.73 that our society works is that 00:28:50.76\00:28:52.19 we leave a lot of these opportunities 00:28:52.23\00:28:54.20 to people who are more qualified. 00:28:54.23\00:28:56.13 But if you go back to the age old adage again, 00:28:56.16\00:28:59.27 God does not call the qualified, 00:28:59.30\00:29:01.30 He qualifies the called. 00:29:01.34\00:29:02.84 Then we figure out that 00:29:02.87\00:29:04.24 that the Lord really isn't interested 00:29:04.31\00:29:05.94 in our many certifications. 00:29:05.97\00:29:08.14 He's interested in willing hearts 00:29:08.18\00:29:09.61 and willing hands. 00:29:09.64\00:29:10.98 And just being good Samaritans, I love to... 00:29:11.01\00:29:13.62 you mentioned that earlier. 00:29:13.65\00:29:14.98 And if you'd like to read that, 00:29:15.02\00:29:17.29 how God used the Good Samaritan 00:29:17.32\00:29:21.19 to minister in that Golden Hour, 00:29:21.22\00:29:23.93 and then the other relief came afterwards. 00:29:23.96\00:29:26.53 So, yeah, and the story of the Good Samaritan, 00:29:26.56\00:29:29.20 you know, there's this guy and he's injured, right? 00:29:29.23\00:29:32.20 He gets robbed 00:29:32.23\00:29:33.57 and laid by the side of the road 00:29:33.64\00:29:35.07 and a couple people come by 00:29:35.10\00:29:37.11 and only one of them choose to help. 00:29:37.14\00:29:39.24 But it's like the original 00:29:39.27\00:29:40.61 search and rescue story of the Bible, right? 00:29:40.68\00:29:42.51 He comes and he provides care on scene. 00:29:42.54\00:29:44.78 He pours in the oil and the wine. 00:29:44.81\00:29:47.02 He wraps his bandages up. 00:29:47.05\00:29:48.72 He puts them on the original all-terrain vehicles, 00:29:48.75\00:29:51.12 which is his donkey or mule. 00:29:51.15\00:29:53.86 And takes him to definitive care, right? 00:29:53.89\00:29:56.16 Which is what we do, we show up, 00:29:56.19\00:29:57.53 we treat them on scene, we put them in ambulance, 00:29:57.56\00:29:59.39 we take them to definitive care, 00:29:59.43\00:30:01.10 which is the hospital in our days, 00:30:01.13\00:30:02.63 but, and that story, it's taken him to the end. 00:30:02.66\00:30:05.37 And then he says whatever the innkeeper needs 00:30:05.40\00:30:08.77 more to take care of, and he provides for that too. 00:30:08.80\00:30:11.61 And he does that all 00:30:11.64\00:30:13.01 in a very specific fast time frame. 00:30:13.04\00:30:15.94 And so it's an illustration of the spiritual Golden Hour 00:30:15.98\00:30:18.88 in that story too. 00:30:18.91\00:30:20.25 Amen, amen. 00:30:20.32\00:30:21.65 So what we're seeing here is, you all had the desire, 00:30:21.68\00:30:27.06 the Holy Spirit put the desire in your heart to help those 00:30:27.09\00:30:30.93 who are hurting and in this, but now, just the willingness, 00:30:30.96\00:30:35.33 you know, it just reminds me 00:30:35.36\00:30:37.57 when you think of Isaiah, who he's before the Lord, 00:30:37.60\00:30:41.27 he sees the Lord high 00:30:41.30\00:30:42.64 and lifted up and God is saying, 00:30:42.67\00:30:44.14 Who shall we send forth? 00:30:44.21\00:30:45.91 And he's gone. 00:30:45.94\00:30:47.28 Here am I, send me, so just having that 00:30:47.31\00:30:50.35 willingness to go. 00:30:50.38\00:30:52.58 Then, again, it amazes me that 00:30:52.61\00:30:56.45 when you said you don't know 00:30:56.48\00:30:57.82 much about the logistics before you get there. 00:30:57.85\00:30:59.95 Sometimes they know nothing about it, 00:30:59.99\00:31:02.02 you just get there, right? 00:31:02.06\00:31:03.83 And you just... But God has been providing. 00:31:03.86\00:31:07.70 And it's interesting that you've got all these other 00:31:07.73\00:31:11.70 "More Professional Teams," who are not faith based. 00:31:11.73\00:31:14.77 So God gives you the best of the best. 00:31:14.80\00:31:18.97 God is... You just can't out give Him. 00:31:19.01\00:31:21.88 But what we're seeing is that 00:31:21.91\00:31:25.88 these disasters are happening 00:31:25.91\00:31:28.15 with greater frequency, greater intensity. 00:31:28.18\00:31:32.22 So what are you looking for in going forward? 00:31:32.25\00:31:37.86 Even though you don't have to be 00:31:37.89\00:31:39.46 a professional, 00:31:39.49\00:31:40.83 I just believe with all of my heart 00:31:40.90\00:31:42.43 that there are many professionals out there. 00:31:42.46\00:31:44.97 Maybe you're an EMT, or a doctor or nurse 00:31:45.00\00:31:47.64 or an engineer, or maybe you're a contractor 00:31:47.67\00:31:50.41 or a cook. 00:31:50.44\00:31:53.81 There's got to be people 00:31:53.88\00:31:55.64 who are out there who are saying, 00:31:55.68\00:31:57.81 you know, I could answer the call for disaster. 00:31:57.85\00:32:01.42 What are you looking for? 00:32:01.45\00:32:03.69 That is one of the greatest needs. 00:32:03.72\00:32:06.52 Jesus, in fact, told His disciples, 00:32:06.55\00:32:08.29 it's interesting. 00:32:08.32\00:32:09.66 He tells His disciples, pray to the Lord of the harvest 00:32:09.69\00:32:13.13 that he would send forth money. 00:32:13.16\00:32:18.10 But this is how we think typically. 00:32:18.13\00:32:19.47 That's what we do. 00:32:19.50\00:32:20.84 We think, you know, pray the Lord for harvest, 00:32:20.87\00:32:22.20 it was important. 00:32:22.24\00:32:23.61 We need money, we need resources, 00:32:23.64\00:32:24.97 we need equipment, all of these things. 00:32:25.01\00:32:26.34 But that's not what Jesus said. 00:32:26.37\00:32:27.71 He said, prayed the Lord of harvest, 00:32:27.74\00:32:29.08 he would send forth laborers. 00:32:29.11\00:32:30.45 Yes. 00:32:30.48\00:32:31.81 Because the harvest is great, and the laborers are few. 00:32:31.85\00:32:33.18 Yeah. Yeah. 00:32:33.21\00:32:34.55 And that's the sad case of situation is that 00:32:34.58\00:32:35.92 it's an all hands on deck need 00:32:35.95\00:32:38.25 in these disaster situations. 00:32:38.29\00:32:40.16 And we're a tiny team of four, 00:32:40.19\00:32:42.99 at one little junction in the airport, 00:32:43.02\00:32:45.06 trying to make the best impact 00:32:45.09\00:32:46.43 that we can on the physical level 00:32:46.46\00:32:48.33 and on the spiritual level. 00:32:48.36\00:32:50.30 And yet, we could have used a team of 50 00:32:50.37\00:32:53.54 and that still wouldn't have been enough. 00:32:53.57\00:32:55.00 Yeah. Yeah. 00:32:55.04\00:32:56.37 And so one of our greatest needs 00:32:56.40\00:32:57.74 that we see is, 00:32:57.77\00:32:59.11 you know, Lord, send us laborers, 00:32:59.14\00:33:00.48 send us other that have that same burden 00:33:00.51\00:33:02.01 and that same call to go and reach those 00:33:02.04\00:33:04.78 that are hurting and in a need. 00:33:04.81\00:33:06.51 I wanna put some on that too, you know, 00:33:06.55\00:33:09.52 right before Christ is crucified, 00:33:09.55\00:33:12.02 when the last moments are really counting, 00:33:12.05\00:33:14.42 and the conversation is important, 00:33:14.46\00:33:15.79 He asks His disciples in Luke 22:35, 00:33:15.82\00:33:18.59 He says, "When I sent you out, 00:33:18.63\00:33:20.30 without scrip and person shoes, did you lack anything?" 00:33:20.33\00:33:23.97 And they said no. 00:33:24.00\00:33:25.70 And we can say the same thing. 00:33:25.73\00:33:27.14 We haven't lacked the resources that we've needed. 00:33:27.17\00:33:30.14 Whatever we've needed, whether it was food or water 00:33:30.21\00:33:32.34 or a place to store our supplies to give out, 00:33:32.37\00:33:35.74 we haven't lacked anything. 00:33:35.78\00:33:37.91 We have lacked hands to do the work. 00:33:37.95\00:33:42.58 And in the type of hands, 00:33:42.62\00:33:45.49 let's talk about the qualification 00:33:45.52\00:33:47.69 because even though 00:33:47.72\00:33:49.06 I called out professionals here, 00:33:49.09\00:33:51.26 you don't have to be a professional. 00:33:51.29\00:33:53.13 Like I said, 00:33:53.16\00:33:54.50 we could go on a trip like this, 00:33:54.53\00:33:56.60 if we would be willing to maybe sleep rough it a little. 00:33:56.67\00:34:00.77 Because you realize if you're going into an area 00:34:00.84\00:34:03.71 that's a disaster, you're probably not gonna have 00:34:03.74\00:34:06.44 the greatest accommodations to you, 00:34:06.47\00:34:08.94 but what you're looking for is somebody that has a heart 00:34:08.98\00:34:14.02 that surrendered to the Lord and somebody 00:34:14.05\00:34:17.89 who is going to let the love of God 00:34:17.92\00:34:22.32 flow through them 00:34:22.36\00:34:24.06 to reach lost and hurting people. 00:34:24.13\00:34:27.40 Right? 00:34:27.43\00:34:28.76 That has to be the paramount desire in quality. 00:34:28.80\00:34:31.17 Yes. Yeah. 00:34:31.20\00:34:32.77 You know, kind of caught me by surprise 00:34:32.80\00:34:34.44 when Chris was sharing earlier that 00:34:34.47\00:34:36.91 whenever you left, you know, 00:34:36.94\00:34:40.38 you had your backpack and you had your box, trail mix. 00:34:40.41\00:34:44.78 And you got there and then you found a place 00:34:47.88\00:34:51.42 where you could sleep on the grass. 00:34:51.45\00:34:53.59 Now, that's kind of strange, and then it just hit me 00:34:53.66\00:34:55.86 where you were, what was going on 00:34:55.89\00:34:58.63 and probably everybody in the area 00:34:58.66\00:35:00.00 were sleeping on the grass. 00:35:00.03\00:35:02.76 Depending on which trip you go to, 00:35:02.80\00:35:05.03 which trip you're going on, but when we went to the Bahamas 00:35:05.07\00:35:09.24 that was largely a lot of everybody else 00:35:09.27\00:35:11.91 was sleeping on the grass. 00:35:11.94\00:35:14.18 When we went to down in Panama City 00:35:14.21\00:35:16.75 for Hurricane Michael, you know, there were some, 00:35:16.78\00:35:20.05 there were houses that were there, 00:35:20.12\00:35:21.45 but for what we needed to do 00:35:21.48\00:35:23.69 and what we were accomplishing then, 00:35:23.72\00:35:26.69 the ground was exactly what we needed, again. 00:35:26.76\00:35:29.36 And I'm sure that it was comfortable 00:35:29.39\00:35:31.03 for that particular time. 00:35:31.06\00:35:33.26 I would think that because the harvest is so ripe, 00:35:33.29\00:35:37.37 that there's so much to be accomplished, 00:35:37.40\00:35:39.73 that you probably sleep pretty good at night, 00:35:39.77\00:35:41.74 when you finally get to the bed. 00:35:41.77\00:35:43.17 When you get down, you better be. 00:35:43.20\00:35:44.54 So you forget about, you know, 00:35:44.57\00:35:45.91 just how many springs you have underneath you. 00:35:45.94\00:35:48.28 You're just glad that you got a place to... 00:35:48.31\00:35:49.98 Where they're young enough to fit in for a bed. 00:35:50.05\00:35:54.98 So, when you are, as you said, what sets you apart 00:35:55.02\00:36:00.36 from other teams, 00:36:00.39\00:36:01.72 you are a small and humble team, 00:36:01.76\00:36:03.43 but God is honoring that humility. 00:36:03.46\00:36:06.83 What sets you apart is that you are offering hope 00:36:06.90\00:36:11.97 not only in prayer but you're giving them 00:36:12.00\00:36:13.87 something tangible, a book. 00:36:13.94\00:36:15.97 What are some of your favorite pieces, 00:36:16.00\00:36:18.21 Patrick, to literature wise in a situation like this? 00:36:18.24\00:36:22.61 What do you like to hand out? 00:36:22.64\00:36:25.01 Steps to Christ and... 00:36:25.05\00:36:27.32 I mean, we did hand out some Great Controversies, 00:36:27.35\00:36:29.45 but we usually kind of 00:36:29.48\00:36:32.85 hang on to the Great Controversies. 00:36:32.89\00:36:34.66 I mean, because there's like, 00:36:34.69\00:36:36.66 we'll meet some very important people you know, 00:36:36.73\00:36:39.26 and I don't know, just God always makes it where 00:36:39.29\00:36:42.33 the Great Controversy usually wind up 00:36:42.36\00:36:44.30 in those people's hands. 00:36:44.33\00:36:45.70 But yeah, usually the Steps to Christ or, 00:36:45.73\00:36:47.67 you know, the GLOW tracts. 00:36:47.70\00:36:49.77 You know, where's God when I'm hurting? 00:36:49.80\00:36:51.87 Ministry of Healing and Desire of Ages as well. 00:36:51.91\00:36:54.18 Okay. 00:36:54.21\00:36:55.54 I mean, that's what people need to hear. 00:36:55.58\00:36:57.55 Now, when you were in the Bahamas, 00:36:57.58\00:37:00.35 the Lord arranged that you're... 00:37:00.42\00:37:02.85 They have a boat. 00:37:02.88\00:37:04.79 And this is interesting because we've got a picture 00:37:04.82\00:37:07.46 of this boat. 00:37:07.49\00:37:08.82 And I didn't know that they made boats like this, 00:37:08.86\00:37:12.76 but this is an inflatable boat. 00:37:12.79\00:37:15.46 And you use this for? It is a very unique boat. 00:37:15.50\00:37:19.70 It's actually called a creature craft. 00:37:19.73\00:37:22.80 And what's interesting about the boat, 00:37:22.84\00:37:25.77 and we were actually discussing this on our way up here, 00:37:25.81\00:37:28.78 the first Sabbath School Mission offering 00:37:28.81\00:37:31.75 that was collectively raised in 1890 00:37:31.78\00:37:35.12 for Seventh-day Adventist Church 00:37:35.15\00:37:37.19 was to buy a boat, The Pit Karen. 00:37:37.22\00:37:40.96 And so this is actually a joint leap of faith venture 00:37:40.99\00:37:44.66 between our group here and also 00:37:44.69\00:37:46.39 our local little church in Ardmore, Oklahoma. 00:37:46.43\00:37:50.27 They saw the need, they stepped out in faith 00:37:50.30\00:37:52.73 and they bought the boat. 00:37:52.77\00:37:54.34 And so the boat is as a tool in which we can reach people, 00:37:54.37\00:37:58.31 you know, in flooded environments. 00:37:58.34\00:38:00.68 But it's a door that opens, you know, 00:38:00.71\00:38:03.35 opportunity as well not just for that physical 00:38:03.38\00:38:05.85 hand of help, 00:38:05.88\00:38:07.22 but more importantly for that spiritual mental help. 00:38:07.25\00:38:10.02 So when you got the boat shipped down 00:38:10.09\00:38:13.12 to the Bahamas, you didn't actually 00:38:13.15\00:38:15.36 have the opportunity to use it in the Bahamas. 00:38:15.39\00:38:18.39 But let's talk about what God... 00:38:18.43\00:38:21.10 I mean, when you talk about 00:38:21.13\00:38:22.53 God meeting your needs, and you know 00:38:22.56\00:38:24.00 what we know that because here at 3ABN, I mean, 00:38:24.07\00:38:28.64 we don't have money in the bank for next month. 00:38:28.67\00:38:30.91 And sometimes you know, when you're behind, 00:38:30.94\00:38:33.58 and God will open a door 00:38:33.61\00:38:35.38 and we just go forward by faith and it's like, 00:38:35.41\00:38:37.65 well, you're already behind on the budget, 00:38:37.68\00:38:40.72 but we just go forward by faith and God always ends up 00:38:40.75\00:38:43.99 meetings our needs, always. 00:38:44.02\00:38:46.22 So you're there and now you've got to get back 00:38:46.25\00:38:49.42 to the States and everything shutting down. 00:38:49.46\00:38:51.63 Tell us what God did? 00:38:51.66\00:38:53.70 The boat was shipped to us on Sabbath morning actually. 00:38:53.73\00:38:56.80 They finally... 00:38:56.87\00:38:58.20 They weren't able to take us on the first plane 00:38:58.23\00:38:59.57 because of the space and the limits that 00:38:59.60\00:39:01.27 we had for our equipment. 00:39:01.30\00:39:02.64 The boat is heavy, all together 00:39:02.67\00:39:04.01 with all of its equipment's about 640 pounds. 00:39:04.04\00:39:07.08 So it's a large load to load into 00:39:07.11\00:39:09.58 any sort of smaller type aircraft. 00:39:09.61\00:39:11.88 And so when we first came 00:39:11.91\00:39:13.42 we left the boat back in Florida 00:39:13.45\00:39:15.42 and Arrow Bridge, our friends, 00:39:15.45\00:39:17.29 they eventually flew us the boat on Sabbath morning. 00:39:17.32\00:39:21.26 But a disaster scene is so dynamic, 00:39:21.29\00:39:23.46 it changes from minute to minute. 00:39:23.53\00:39:24.86 I'm sure. 00:39:24.89\00:39:26.23 And unfortunately on Sabbath afternoon, 00:39:26.26\00:39:29.63 well, not unfortunately, fortunately, 00:39:29.66\00:39:31.77 the United States military was actually coming in 00:39:31.80\00:39:35.47 with all of their large response 00:39:35.50\00:39:36.84 in their aircraft 00:39:36.91\00:39:38.24 and so pretty soon the whole airport 00:39:38.27\00:39:39.61 was turning into you know, much larger response 00:39:39.64\00:39:41.78 and we had the capacity for you know, 00:39:41.81\00:39:44.25 that we could fly so many planes in 00:39:44.28\00:39:45.98 with small aviation and unload supplies. 00:39:46.01\00:39:48.08 But when you can bring a C-130 full of food and water, 00:39:48.12\00:39:51.15 it changes drastically. 00:39:51.19\00:39:53.46 And so our team members back in United States said 00:39:53.49\00:39:56.06 we are sending you a plane and we advise that 00:39:56.09\00:39:58.43 you get on it because it's large enough 00:39:58.46\00:40:01.16 to carry you, your team and all of your equipment 00:40:01.20\00:40:03.23 and the boat back to United States. 00:40:03.26\00:40:05.27 If you don't get on the plane, we don't know 00:40:05.30\00:40:07.27 if we can guarantee your passage back 00:40:07.34\00:40:10.54 at least all in one piece. 00:40:10.61\00:40:13.38 So we prayed about it. 00:40:13.41\00:40:14.74 I know it's a struggle for us because we hadn't been there. 00:40:14.78\00:40:16.61 This was a shorter response than we typically have, 00:40:16.64\00:40:19.01 and we felt that we just 00:40:19.05\00:40:20.42 there's still so much to be done. 00:40:20.45\00:40:21.78 There's still so many people to be reached. 00:40:21.82\00:40:23.25 They're still, I mean, it's just overwhelming. 00:40:23.28\00:40:25.82 And so it was a struggle for us to get on that plane. 00:40:25.85\00:40:27.76 But we prayed about it. 00:40:27.79\00:40:29.29 And we decided that you know, 00:40:29.32\00:40:30.73 maybe the Lord is asking us to do this. 00:40:30.76\00:40:34.73 And so we did, we met the pilot that landed with his plane, 00:40:34.76\00:40:38.73 and he was looking at all of our equipment 00:40:38.77\00:40:41.27 and kind of calculating our weight. 00:40:41.30\00:40:43.00 And that's when Patrick looked at our pilot and, 00:40:43.04\00:40:48.54 Patrick, you recognize him. 00:40:48.58\00:40:51.48 Yeah, I asked him what his name was. 00:40:51.51\00:40:53.62 He told me his name. 00:40:53.65\00:40:55.45 And I was like, where do I know you from? 00:40:55.48\00:40:57.39 When I asked him his last name and he gave me his last name 00:40:57.42\00:40:59.52 and that's when I realized who he was. 00:40:59.55\00:41:01.42 And... 00:41:01.46\00:41:02.79 You got really excited, how this was going. 00:41:02.82\00:41:04.23 Patrick was much more animated. 00:41:04.26\00:41:05.59 He was like, oh, man, I can't believe it. 00:41:05.63\00:41:07.40 It's amazing. This is incredible. 00:41:07.43\00:41:09.16 I can't believe, I'm here with him... 00:41:09.20\00:41:10.57 And we're like Patrick, you're blowing his cover. 00:41:10.60\00:41:11.93 So he is a sports figure. Quite famous. 00:41:11.97\00:41:13.34 He was a famous sports figure and just, 00:41:13.37\00:41:17.01 I mean, a humble guy, gracious guy. 00:41:17.04\00:41:19.17 I mean, just incredible. 00:41:19.21\00:41:20.58 Like, we haven't met many celebrities, 00:41:20.61\00:41:22.08 but this one that we've met was just such a nice guy. 00:41:22.11\00:41:26.11 And so he took all of our equipment, 00:41:26.15\00:41:27.85 all of our team. 00:41:27.88\00:41:29.25 And you know, he has luxury seats 00:41:29.28\00:41:30.82 in this brand new plane. 00:41:30.89\00:41:32.42 And so we're trying to be careful loading all of our gear 00:41:32.45\00:41:34.92 into the plane and careful with the seats. 00:41:34.96\00:41:36.29 Brand new $5 million plane. Yeah. 00:41:36.32\00:41:39.83 And he just Patrick in the front seat with him 00:41:39.86\00:41:44.27 and Patrick was able to fly back with him. 00:41:44.30\00:41:45.97 And that was just, it was an incredible flight 00:41:46.00\00:41:47.47 on the way back. 00:41:47.54\00:41:48.87 In fact, I remember and looking out the window, 00:41:48.90\00:41:51.87 and the clouds were just, I mean, brilliant. 00:41:51.91\00:41:54.48 I mean, just beautiful. The sun was shining here. 00:41:54.51\00:41:56.61 And what I was thinking was like man, 00:41:56.64\00:41:58.08 Lord, like You're coming soon. 00:41:58.11\00:41:59.78 Amen. 00:41:59.81\00:42:01.15 We can see this, like Jesus is coming soon. 00:42:01.18\00:42:02.95 And we happen to have with us 00:42:02.98\00:42:04.82 one last copy of the Great Controversy. 00:42:04.85\00:42:07.66 And it was actually Chris's mother's copy 00:42:07.69\00:42:10.33 of the Great Controversy and it was illustrated. 00:42:10.36\00:42:12.76 And so Kory and I, 00:42:12.79\00:42:14.30 we decided to write just a little note. 00:42:14.33\00:42:16.50 I mean, this celebrity, he's used to signing 00:42:16.53\00:42:18.17 all sorts of memorabilia for people. 00:42:18.20\00:42:20.37 And we just said, you know what, 00:42:20.44\00:42:21.94 we're gonna sign this one note for him, 00:42:21.97\00:42:24.21 and give him a gift. 00:42:24.24\00:42:25.77 And so we wrote him a note and basically just said, 00:42:25.81\00:42:28.31 you know, if the only thing 00:42:28.34\00:42:31.38 that we did on this entire trip, 00:42:31.41\00:42:33.42 was to come all the way here 00:42:33.45\00:42:35.32 and to place this book in your hands, 00:42:35.35\00:42:37.19 then it would be worth it. 00:42:37.22\00:42:38.55 Amen. 00:42:38.59\00:42:39.92 And when he took that book, he was so excited. 00:42:39.95\00:42:41.79 He was like, thank you so much. 00:42:41.82\00:42:43.16 Like, he's really like a gift for me. 00:42:43.19\00:42:44.53 You know, this is incredible. But that wasn't the best. 00:42:44.56\00:42:48.16 I mean, when we landed in Florida 00:42:48.20\00:42:50.47 there we got through customs. 00:42:50.50\00:42:52.33 And then he started asking us questions like, 00:42:52.37\00:42:54.17 who are you guys, and where are you from? 00:42:54.24\00:42:56.37 And so we started sharing a little bit about our team, 00:42:56.40\00:42:58.84 and he said, well, you know, 00:42:58.87\00:43:00.21 said I'm not too far from you guys. 00:43:00.28\00:43:02.41 I can reconfigure a few things in my aircraft 00:43:02.44\00:43:04.58 and change it out 00:43:04.61\00:43:05.95 so we could put straps in it for cargo, 00:43:05.98\00:43:07.45 we could box up your supplies so they fit in there nicely 00:43:07.52\00:43:10.19 and pull out all of my luxury seats, 00:43:10.22\00:43:12.12 and he said, you know what? 00:43:12.15\00:43:13.49 Here's my cell phone number just call me next time 00:43:13.56\00:43:17.13 that there's a disaster and I'll come and pick you up. 00:43:17.16\00:43:18.49 How amazing is God. 00:43:18.53\00:43:20.90 I mean, that is absolutely amazing. 00:43:20.93\00:43:25.00 So let's talk about, I mean, we don't know 00:43:25.03\00:43:28.54 when the next disaster is going to hit, 00:43:28.57\00:43:31.51 but we know it's coming. 00:43:31.54\00:43:33.11 I mean there's no question. 00:43:33.14\00:43:35.54 Let's talk about what the... 00:43:35.58\00:43:39.61 First of all give you're... 00:43:39.65\00:43:42.05 Let's give your website and your Facebook address 00:43:42.08\00:43:46.76 real quickly, if you will? 00:43:46.79\00:43:48.12 I don't have that.
