00:09:00.47\00:09:03.10 If you could just put that in layman's terms, 00:09:03.14\00:09:04.84 what do you study? 00:09:04.87\00:09:06.98 What does it focus on? 00:09:07.01\00:09:09.01 Stuff in space, stars, galaxies, planets. 00:09:09.04\00:09:12.01 Okay. 00:09:12.05\00:09:13.42 The universe as a whole and how it all works together. 00:09:13.45\00:09:16.92 Well, I would say on that note, I'm an amateur astronomer. 00:09:16.99\00:09:20.59 So amateur that I use my iPad to look at the heavens. 00:09:20.66\00:09:25.29 We're glad to have you here also. 00:09:25.33\00:09:27.10 And we got to talk about 00:09:27.13\00:09:28.46 the Oregon Adventist Men's Chorus. 00:09:28.50\00:09:31.53 And, David, I'll start with you. 00:09:31.57\00:09:33.74 Just kind of give us... 00:09:33.77\00:09:36.14 I know, you just mentioned you've been a pastor, 00:09:36.17\00:09:38.64 and I did know that, 00:09:38.67\00:09:40.01 but how long have you been in ministry? 00:09:40.08\00:09:43.08 Well, a long time ago, that's why I'm retired. 00:09:43.11\00:09:46.72 But when I was in the academy, 00:09:46.75\00:09:48.08 I was in a quartet with my two brothers 00:09:48.12\00:09:50.02 and a fellow named Buz Starrett. 00:09:50.09\00:09:51.42 Yes. 00:09:51.45\00:09:52.79 And then at PSC, Buz started a student led men's chorus. 00:09:52.82\00:09:58.23 And years later when I was a pastor, 00:09:58.26\00:10:00.70 I was also in the music committee 00:10:00.73\00:10:02.06 for our camp meeting in Oregon. 00:10:02.10\00:10:03.47 Okay. 00:10:03.50\00:10:04.83 And we had begun a men's group in my church in Salem 00:10:04.87\00:10:08.07 about 20 guys, we decided to sing 00:10:08.10\00:10:09.90 for an Easter program one Sabbath, one year, 00:10:09.94\00:10:12.41 probably 1993 I think it was there about. 00:10:12.44\00:10:15.91 And that went really well. 00:10:15.94\00:10:17.28 People seem to appreciate it. 00:10:17.35\00:10:18.68 So I thought "Well, let's see if we can do some more." 00:10:18.71\00:10:20.05 And being on the music committee 00:10:20.08\00:10:21.42 for a camp meeting, I thought 00:10:21.45\00:10:22.78 "Why don't we get a group together 00:10:22.82\00:10:24.15 and let's sing them for camp meeting." 00:10:24.19\00:10:25.55 So I told my friends, fellow pastors, 00:10:25.59\00:10:27.69 and they put ads in a bulletin. 00:10:27.72\00:10:29.92 So in camp meeting in Oregon in 1994, 00:10:29.96\00:10:31.99 we had 112 men show up to sing, 00:10:32.03\00:10:35.00 a great experience with that. 00:10:35.03\00:10:36.36 We thought "Well, let's do a program of our own." 00:10:36.40\00:10:39.00 So the next spring, 00:10:39.03\00:10:41.27 our next summer at camp meeting, 00:10:41.30\00:10:42.64 no, next spring, 00:10:42.67\00:10:44.01 we had our first festival of praise 00:10:44.04\00:10:45.91 for the Oregon Adventist Men's Chorus. 00:10:45.94\00:10:47.28 Okay. 00:10:47.31\00:10:48.64 We've been doing that for the next 25 years. 00:10:48.68\00:10:50.05 Wow! 00:10:50.08\00:10:51.41 You know, we thought we'd do it three or four years, 00:10:51.45\00:10:52.78 we'd be all done, but the Lord had other ideas, 00:10:52.81\00:10:54.15 so it's been quite a ride we've been on. 00:10:54.18\00:10:55.75 And so then this started while you were in pastoring? 00:10:55.78\00:10:58.22 Yes. 00:10:58.25\00:10:59.59 Okay. 00:10:59.62\00:11:00.96 So that... 00:11:00.99\00:11:02.32 You know, it's amazing as you talk about 00:11:02.36\00:11:03.73 God had other plans. 00:11:03.76\00:11:05.09 Yep. 00:11:05.13\00:11:06.46 Lot of times, the things we do recreationally 00:11:06.49\00:11:07.83 tend to become the longevity of our ministry 00:11:07.86\00:11:10.27 because when I asked the question, 00:11:10.30\00:11:11.63 how long have you been in ministry, 00:11:11.67\00:11:13.00 you're still in ministry. 00:11:13.03\00:11:14.37 Yeah. 00:11:14.40\00:11:15.74 Because pastors although they retire, 00:11:15.77\00:11:17.11 they really never retire. 00:11:17.14\00:11:18.47 Still doing it. 00:11:18.51\00:11:19.84 You know, we never get retired. 00:11:19.87\00:11:21.21 Well, in my church we had a person 00:11:21.24\00:11:22.58 come from California I think, and joined, 00:11:22.61\00:11:23.95 His name is Lou Wildman. 00:11:23.98\00:11:25.31 So he's the co-founder of the chorus. 00:11:25.35\00:11:27.05 He thought it was all done directing, 00:11:27.12\00:11:28.45 he had been directing choirs over the years. 00:11:28.48\00:11:30.29 But again, Lord plugged him in a new way 00:11:30.32\00:11:32.15 and used him for a number of years, 00:11:32.19\00:11:33.56 the first 20 years of our existence 00:11:33.59\00:11:35.36 as a chorus. 00:11:35.39\00:11:36.73 Now was all your ministry in the Oregon area? 00:11:36.76\00:11:38.36 Yes. Okay. Wow! 00:11:38.39\00:11:40.20 That's unusual. You stayed... Were you... 00:11:40.23\00:11:42.23 Okay, now this is the $1,000 question. 00:11:42.26\00:11:45.27 Were you born in Oregon? 00:11:45.30\00:11:46.63 No. 00:11:46.67\00:11:48.00 We were transplanted in California. 00:11:48.04\00:11:49.37 Okay, all right. 00:11:49.40\00:11:50.74 So you're West Coast. West Coast. 00:11:50.81\00:11:52.14 We like California too. 00:11:52.17\00:11:53.51 We'll let you come to Oregon, 00:11:53.54\00:11:54.88 or should I say it the other way around? 00:11:54.91\00:11:56.41 'Cause I enjoy California. It was... 00:11:56.44\00:11:58.31 I lived in California for about 18 years, 00:11:58.35\00:12:00.12 enjoyed it very well. 00:12:00.15\00:12:01.52 The West Coast is a beautiful place to live. 00:12:01.55\00:12:04.29 Okay, back here in Illinois, it's... 00:12:04.32\00:12:06.39 Flying in I couldn't believe all the trees blow us, 00:12:06.42\00:12:08.19 it seemed like Oregon, 00:12:08.22\00:12:09.56 there are so many trees looking down. 00:12:09.59\00:12:10.93 It's beautiful. Very nice. 00:12:11.09\00:12:12.43 Yeah, the Midwest is nice. 00:12:12.46\00:12:15.03 We are in that... 00:12:15.06\00:12:16.77 You know, when the seasons come and go in the Midwest... 00:12:16.80\00:12:18.80 You can tell the change. 00:12:18.83\00:12:20.17 You get those four seasons. You get a lot... 00:12:20.24\00:12:22.60 Are you in the rainy part of Oregon? 00:12:22.64\00:12:24.57 That's the part. 00:12:24.61\00:12:25.94 Okay, where you don't have to worry 00:12:25.97\00:12:27.61 about things getting brown. 00:12:27.64\00:12:29.14 No, maybe in the summer, but not much. 00:12:29.18\00:12:31.61 You can send some of that water to California. 00:12:31.65\00:12:34.22 Unfortunately, we do. 00:12:34.25\00:12:35.58 Well, Pastor Schmidt, good to have you here. 00:12:35.62\00:12:37.65 Now, Ben, 00:12:37.69\00:12:39.02 give us a little bit more about your background. 00:12:39.05\00:12:41.46 You live in Oregon right now but you're from... 00:12:41.49\00:12:43.73 Oh, do you live in Caldwell? 00:12:43.76\00:12:45.09 I live in Caldwell, yes. 00:12:45.13\00:12:46.46 How far is that from Oregon? 00:12:46.49\00:12:47.86 Well, it's about a six-hour drive. 00:12:47.90\00:12:49.23 Okay. 00:12:49.26\00:12:50.60 And a little over an hour flight. 00:12:50.67\00:12:52.70 Well, give us some of your background. 00:12:52.73\00:12:54.07 What got you involved in the... 00:12:54.14\00:12:56.81 In the men's chorus? Yeah. 00:12:56.84\00:12:58.34 Well, I was actually teaching there 00:12:58.37\00:13:00.38 in the Caldwell area number of years ago, 00:13:00.41\00:13:02.81 and the men's chorus was scheduled 00:13:02.84\00:13:05.28 to come and perform on a huge weekend 00:13:05.31\00:13:08.52 at the school. 00:13:08.55\00:13:09.88 And I was terribly busy 00:13:09.92\00:13:12.25 with my own groups and stretched out, 00:13:12.29\00:13:14.26 and I didn't want this men's chorus to come. 00:13:14.29\00:13:16.59 And they kept calling me 00:13:16.62\00:13:17.96 while I was in the middle of doing everything else, 00:13:17.99\00:13:20.10 and really get, at many points irritating me. 00:13:20.13\00:13:23.13 And I was already ready for them to leave 00:13:23.16\00:13:25.23 before they got there even. 00:13:25.27\00:13:29.27 But then, when they actually got there 00:13:29.30\00:13:31.84 and started that first rehearsal, 00:13:31.87\00:13:34.48 I had told some of the young guys 00:13:34.51\00:13:36.95 in my select choir that they needed to come 00:13:36.98\00:13:40.52 to the rehearsal as well and sing with the choir. 00:13:40.55\00:13:42.05 So if I had to be there, 00:13:42.08\00:13:43.42 they needed to be there too, okay? 00:13:43.49\00:13:44.82 So makes it together. 00:13:44.85\00:13:46.19 Yeah, not just leave me hanging out there by myself, you know. 00:13:46.22\00:13:49.32 We were partway through that first song, 00:13:49.36\00:13:51.63 and one of my students turned around 00:13:51.66\00:13:53.80 and just went, "Wow!" 00:13:53.83\00:13:56.46 And they were hooked, 00:13:56.50\00:13:57.83 just the whole concept of men together, 00:13:57.87\00:14:02.30 singing the praises of God and enjoying it 00:14:02.34\00:14:06.78 and doing it with enthusiasm, and energy, and excitement, 00:14:06.81\00:14:10.95 and singing from their heart, and it was just... 00:14:10.98\00:14:13.21 It opened up a whole new world to them. 00:14:13.25\00:14:14.95 In fact, the young man that turned around 00:14:14.98\00:14:17.12 and said wow to me came from a home 00:14:17.19\00:14:19.59 where his father had left years before 00:14:19.62\00:14:23.53 and his mother struggled her hardest 00:14:23.56\00:14:26.80 as a single mother, you know, 00:14:26.83\00:14:28.83 and he just coming into that group 00:14:28.86\00:14:31.57 and the men just mentored those guys 00:14:31.60\00:14:34.50 and just bonded with him, 00:14:34.54\00:14:36.47 and it was just a fantastic spiritual 00:14:36.50\00:14:38.84 and emotional experience for all of us. 00:14:38.87\00:14:41.41 And I was about... 00:14:41.44\00:14:42.78 So you know, you knew from that moment, 00:14:42.81\00:14:44.15 this is what I want to do. 00:14:44.18\00:14:45.51 Yeah. So then we started... 00:14:45.55\00:14:46.92 I started taking guys over to rehearsals 00:14:46.95\00:14:49.38 as often as we could. 00:14:49.42\00:14:51.15 And we ended up actually, 00:14:51.19\00:14:53.66 some of my students and I traveling to South Africa 00:14:53.69\00:14:55.72 with the men's chorus a number of years ago. 00:14:55.76\00:14:57.46 Okay. Well, that's good. 00:14:57.53\00:14:59.13 So you have been with them for about how long now? 00:14:59.16\00:15:04.43 You know, I don't... 00:15:04.47\00:15:05.80 That was quite a while ago, and then I moved to Arizona. 00:15:05.83\00:15:09.67 So I was out for a few years. 00:15:09.70\00:15:12.07 Okay. 00:15:12.11\00:15:13.48 You know, it was interesting what you said about Arizona 00:15:13.51\00:15:14.84 'cause you live in Caldwell, Idaho. 00:15:14.88\00:15:17.45 And I said, "How would you leave 00:15:17.48\00:15:19.81 such beautiful weather in Arizona?" 00:15:19.85\00:15:22.05 And what was your response to that? 00:15:22.08\00:15:24.19 Well, it was not difficult for me 00:15:24.22\00:15:26.45 to leave the beautiful weather in Arizona. 00:15:26.49\00:15:28.29 Okay. 00:15:28.32\00:15:29.66 I like the four seasons, I like the coolness, 00:15:29.69\00:15:31.29 it's wonderful to wake up in the morning 00:15:31.33\00:15:32.96 and put on a jacket to take a walk. 00:15:32.99\00:15:34.96 That's true. I love that. 00:15:35.00\00:15:36.33 That's not very common 00:15:36.36\00:15:37.70 except at high, high altitudes at Arizona. 00:15:37.73\00:15:39.30 Yes, yes, that's right. That's true. 00:15:39.33\00:15:40.67 So it was not difficult for me to move back. 00:15:40.74\00:15:43.24 And when the seasons change, 00:15:43.27\00:15:44.61 there is something that we can appreciate 00:15:44.64\00:15:46.44 about the difference. 00:15:46.47\00:15:47.81 Definitely. 00:15:47.84\00:15:49.18 Find a jacket, putting a jacket on, 00:15:49.21\00:15:50.55 just feeling that little nip in the air. 00:15:50.58\00:15:52.61 But so at Caldwell, you get those four seasons. 00:15:52.65\00:15:54.78 Yes. That's a good thing. 00:15:54.82\00:15:56.32 But now children, family? 00:15:56.35\00:15:58.59 I have two daughters and two grandchildren. 00:15:58.62\00:16:01.59 Okay. 00:16:01.62\00:16:02.96 And... 00:16:02.99\00:16:04.33 So you two are enjoying being the grandfather? 00:16:04.36\00:16:06.46 Yes. Yes. Okay. 00:16:06.49\00:16:07.83 Except they're in Texas so they're a long ways away. 00:16:07.86\00:16:10.10 Okay. But that's good. 00:16:10.17\00:16:12.30 And you've been in the group... 00:16:12.33\00:16:14.04 You guys travel and sing together. 00:16:14.07\00:16:15.40 But then let me ask a question, 00:16:15.44\00:16:17.04 about how many people are in the Oregon Men's Chorus? 00:16:17.11\00:16:20.88 Oh, it depends what the event is we're preparing for. 00:16:20.91\00:16:23.28 Our festivals usually have 70 or 80 singers. 00:16:23.35\00:16:27.85 Our mission trips usually have more like 30 or 40, 00:16:27.88\00:16:30.79 plus those in the country that we're going to. 00:16:30.82\00:16:33.36 But generally, 50-ish is a good size of our group, 00:16:33.39\00:16:35.99 50 to 60 will be in our festivals, yeah. 00:16:36.02\00:16:37.96 Okay, 'cause we go to a church that only sees 125, 00:16:37.99\00:16:40.60 you don't take 100 guys. 00:16:40.63\00:16:41.96 And the platforms can't accommodate 00:16:42.00\00:16:43.67 if you're a large group. 00:16:43.70\00:16:45.03 That's true. So you... 00:16:45.07\00:16:46.43 Depending on the arrangement, like the occasion you do that. 00:16:46.47\00:16:50.54 And, Paul, let me come to Paul. 00:16:50.61\00:16:51.94 Paul would be... 00:16:51.97\00:16:53.38 I say this with total respect to the two of you, 00:16:53.41\00:16:55.44 the younger of the three of you today. 00:16:55.48\00:16:56.85 Just barely. 00:16:56.88\00:16:58.21 Barely younger. 00:16:58.25\00:16:59.58 Paul, tell us about your background. 00:16:59.61\00:17:01.38 I know we found out about your astrophysicist background, 00:17:01.42\00:17:05.69 and I could identify with you as a layman 00:17:05.72\00:17:08.72 on the basis of understanding in the beauty of the heavens. 00:17:08.76\00:17:11.33 Sure. 00:17:11.36\00:17:12.69 But tell us how did you get exposed 00:17:12.73\00:17:14.10 to the Oregon Men's Chorus... 00:17:14.13\00:17:16.77 Adventists Men's Chorus? 00:17:16.80\00:17:18.13 Well, I was privileged to go to Portland Adventist Academy, 00:17:18.17\00:17:21.57 they're in Portland. 00:17:21.60\00:17:22.94 And I joined the corral, and I love to sing. 00:17:22.97\00:17:25.84 And when I got out of there, 00:17:25.87\00:17:27.84 music remained an interest of mine, 00:17:27.88\00:17:30.05 got involved in church choirs. 00:17:30.08\00:17:31.98 And then I ended up joining a smaller men's singing group 00:17:32.01\00:17:35.92 called His Praise, which I'm still a part. 00:17:35.95\00:17:39.32 And back then, 00:17:39.35\00:17:40.86 when the OAMC had their festivals, 00:17:40.89\00:17:43.53 they'd have like kind of breakout groups 00:17:43.56\00:17:46.70 where they'd invite individual smaller groups 00:17:46.73\00:17:49.43 to come up and sing, and His Praise was one of them. 00:17:49.46\00:17:52.90 And so as a member of His Praise, 00:17:52.93\00:17:54.54 I ended up being part of the OAMC that way 00:17:54.57\00:18:00.28 and really my involvement 00:18:00.31\00:18:02.34 with the OAMC started before then 00:18:02.38\00:18:03.98 when I was just a listener in the audience. 00:18:04.05\00:18:07.85 I heard a couple of festivals. 00:18:07.88\00:18:11.09 Long time ago, I helped video one of them. 00:18:11.12\00:18:14.49 And I could remember back then 00:18:14.52\00:18:16.83 that there was something more than music going on. 00:18:16.86\00:18:19.39 I could sense this 00:18:19.43\00:18:21.33 that this brotherhood and camaraderie 00:18:21.36\00:18:23.80 just coming off of the men off the platform, 00:18:23.87\00:18:26.84 and you could sense that as a listener. 00:18:26.87\00:18:28.57 I don't remember much of what they're saying 00:18:28.60\00:18:30.71 but I remember that feeling. 00:18:30.74\00:18:33.07 And when I finally joined the men's chorus, 00:18:33.11\00:18:35.81 it became obvious to me what that was. 00:18:35.84\00:18:38.98 It was came from the brotherhood 00:18:39.01\00:18:41.25 that was within the group. 00:18:41.28\00:18:42.62 Okay. 00:18:42.65\00:18:43.99 How we support each other, and pray together, 00:18:44.02\00:18:46.42 and confide in each other, 00:18:46.45\00:18:48.19 and that has been very important for me. 00:18:48.22\00:18:52.86 Okay. 00:18:52.89\00:18:54.23 So the Oregon Men's Chorus, David, 00:18:54.30\00:18:56.53 is not just a music group, 00:18:56.56\00:18:59.60 give us some more dimensions of... 00:18:59.63\00:19:01.30 Well, one of our goals is to mentor young men. 00:19:01.34\00:19:04.24 When Ben brought men from the academy where he was, 00:19:04.31\00:19:06.81 it was something we aimed to do. 00:19:06.88\00:19:09.68 We have a Milo Academy in Oregon 00:19:09.71\00:19:11.55 that we have a relationship with, 00:19:11.58\00:19:13.21 and every year, we encourage students 00:19:13.25\00:19:14.95 to come up the guys. 00:19:14.98\00:19:17.29 So that is one of our goals. 00:19:17.32\00:19:18.65 And again, not just have them sing with us 00:19:18.69\00:19:20.36 and lower our average age, 00:19:20.39\00:19:21.72 which certainly they do, 00:19:21.76\00:19:23.22 we want them to know that the church needs them, 00:19:23.26\00:19:25.19 that they have something 00:19:25.23\00:19:26.56 to contribute to the Lord's work 00:19:26.59\00:19:27.93 even before they finish their schooling. 00:19:27.96\00:19:29.96 So that's been important to us. 00:19:30.00\00:19:31.43 Okay. 00:19:31.47\00:19:32.80 And then in the group itself, 00:19:32.83\00:19:34.24 not only do we try to do ministry when we sing, 00:19:34.27\00:19:36.17 but as we rehearse, the music grips us 00:19:36.20\00:19:39.27 before we sing it outside to anybody else. 00:19:39.31\00:19:41.48 Okay. 00:19:41.51\00:19:42.84 There are several songs we've done 00:19:42.88\00:19:44.25 that number of us have talked. 00:19:44.28\00:19:46.11 As we're learning the music, we can hardly sing the music 00:19:46.15\00:19:48.38 because it's moving us emotionally. 00:19:48.42\00:19:51.19 Then it has been mentioned, 00:19:51.22\00:19:52.55 we have our worship times during rehearsals, 00:19:52.59\00:19:54.06 and share prayer requests, 00:19:54.09\00:19:55.42 get together by groups of three or four and pray, 00:19:55.46\00:19:57.63 there's a great deal of fellowship that goes on. 00:19:57.66\00:20:00.40 You know, guys don't usually go off 00:20:00.43\00:20:01.83 or retreat like women may do. 00:20:01.86\00:20:04.20 So this has become our form of men's ministry. 00:20:04.27\00:20:07.17 Okay. 00:20:07.24\00:20:08.57 We've had guys share their testimony 00:20:08.60\00:20:09.94 with their group. 00:20:09.97\00:20:11.31 We have one of our members 00:20:11.34\00:20:12.67 just come out of a gay lifestyle 00:20:12.71\00:20:14.04 and shared that with us. 00:20:14.08\00:20:15.41 Another member who has come from drugs and substance abuse, 00:20:15.44\00:20:18.48 and he shared his journey with us 00:20:18.51\00:20:20.02 and his struggles with that. 00:20:20.05\00:20:21.52 And guys relate to that 00:20:21.55\00:20:22.88 if they haven't been through that, 00:20:22.92\00:20:24.29 they still relate to struggle and growth 00:20:24.32\00:20:25.65 and the Lord's work in their lives. 00:20:25.69\00:20:27.96 So that ministry among and within ourselves 00:20:27.99\00:20:30.33 is a very important part of what we try to accomplish, 00:20:30.36\00:20:33.06 we try to formulate 00:20:33.09\00:20:35.73 our rehearsals and events with that 00:20:35.76\00:20:37.47 as a key component of that. 00:20:37.50\00:20:40.04 That's interesting that you pointed out. 00:20:40.07\00:20:42.37 And as a pastor, you see that on a broader scale. 00:20:42.40\00:20:46.11 Are you primarily one of the organizers 00:20:46.14\00:20:48.21 of lot of the events 00:20:48.24\00:20:49.68 when it comes to the mentoring or does it... 00:20:49.71\00:20:52.85 How does it happen? Let's use an example. 00:20:52.88\00:20:54.38 Well, we try, like I said in rehearsal, 00:20:54.42\00:20:57.39 Ben wants to get the most obviously 00:20:57.42\00:20:59.02 that he can on rehearsal time, 00:20:59.05\00:21:00.96 but we set aside not less than half an hour 00:21:00.99\00:21:03.26 for a little devotional talk, 00:21:03.29\00:21:05.06 sharing a prayer requests, 00:21:05.09\00:21:06.46 getting together not as a whole group, 00:21:06.49\00:21:08.03 but as I say, three or four and praying together. 00:21:08.06\00:21:11.00 And it gives guys opportunity 00:21:11.03\00:21:12.37 to share with a smaller group of people 00:21:12.40\00:21:13.84 what's going on in their lives, what their needs are. 00:21:13.87\00:21:16.60 And that's been very important to all of us. 00:21:16.64\00:21:18.51 Okay. So these are... 00:21:18.54\00:21:20.01 There are victories here that are being won as you... 00:21:20.08\00:21:21.78 Yes. 00:21:21.81\00:21:23.14 In other words, as you're ministering 00:21:23.18\00:21:24.51 to other people, exposing them to Christ 00:21:24.55\00:21:26.55 and the Christ of the music, and the Christ of the song, 00:21:26.58\00:21:29.28 the victories in the lyrics as you pointed out, 00:21:29.32\00:21:32.22 that sometimes the lyrics move you 00:21:32.25\00:21:34.96 before it moves anybody else. 00:21:34.99\00:21:36.49 Absolutely. 00:21:36.52\00:21:37.86 And there's a little thing there 00:21:37.89\00:21:39.23 if it doesn't do anything for you, 00:21:39.26\00:21:40.60 how can you communicate it to anyone else. 00:21:40.63\00:21:41.96 Amen. Have you had that experience? 00:21:42.00\00:21:43.37 Oh, I have. 00:21:43.40\00:21:45.50 One of the most overwhelming experiences 00:21:45.53\00:21:47.24 was on the trip to South Africa, 00:21:47.27\00:21:48.70 standing there with all those men, 00:21:48.74\00:21:51.17 black, white, there were Romanians, 00:21:51.21\00:21:54.08 there was a whole... 00:21:54.11\00:21:56.28 Just a plethora of races. Yes. 00:21:56.31\00:21:57.98 And standing there and we're singing 00:21:58.01\00:22:01.58 "I Then Shall Live." 00:22:01.62\00:22:02.95 Oh, wow! 00:22:02.98\00:22:04.32 And that phrase, 00:22:04.35\00:22:07.56 it still brings emotion into my life. 00:22:07.59\00:22:10.13 That phrase, "I then shall live as one that's been forgiven." 00:22:10.16\00:22:15.80 And I just had to quit singing 00:22:15.83\00:22:17.17 because all these men together were singing this. 00:22:17.20\00:22:21.70 And it was just overwhelming 00:22:21.74\00:22:23.27 and tears started for me in my eyes, 00:22:23.30\00:22:24.74 and I just could not continue to see 00:22:24.77\00:22:26.44 because it's like, "Yes, Lord, I want to live that way." 00:22:26.47\00:22:30.95 And that's why I'm here, 00:22:30.98\00:22:32.35 it's 'cause I want to share with others 00:22:32.38\00:22:34.25 that they can also live as one that's been forgiven. 00:22:34.32\00:22:37.39 And so the music... 00:22:37.42\00:22:39.35 As conductor, I intentionally choose music 00:22:39.39\00:22:43.43 that will reach the hearts of people. 00:22:43.46\00:22:44.93 We are not a chorus to entertain, 00:22:44.96\00:22:47.90 we are a chorus to sing a message. 00:22:47.93\00:22:50.57 That's right. 00:22:50.60\00:22:51.93 And if we just want to entertain, 00:22:51.97\00:22:56.40 God wouldn't be keeping us together this long 00:22:56.44\00:22:58.24 I don't believe. 00:22:58.27\00:22:59.61 That's a very important point. 00:22:59.64\00:23:00.98 I'm going to come to Paul in just a moment here, 00:23:01.01\00:23:03.75 but you make a very interesting point. 00:23:03.78\00:23:05.11 I know that song "I Then Shall Live." 00:23:05.15\00:23:07.12 Matter of fact, I was doing a marriage retreat, 00:23:07.15\00:23:09.22 and at the end of that weekend, 00:23:09.25\00:23:11.45 that was the song that was chosen. 00:23:11.49\00:23:13.99 And it's just... It has such a... 00:23:14.06\00:23:17.36 It's a strong message in each of the verses. 00:23:17.43\00:23:20.20 Yes. 00:23:20.23\00:23:21.56 So then it builds to this crescendo, 00:23:21.60\00:23:22.93 and I could hear it, now in my head I'm hearing, 00:23:22.96\00:23:25.50 you know, hundred voices of men. 00:23:25.53\00:23:27.24 And because it has, you know, the Gaither Vocal Band does it, 00:23:27.27\00:23:30.41 and they sound like they really stack 00:23:30.44\00:23:32.54 'cause it sounds like more than just for God. 00:23:32.57\00:23:33.98 Right, right. 00:23:34.01\00:23:35.34 But when you hear that really resonating... 00:23:35.38\00:23:37.71 Yes. 00:23:37.75\00:23:40.42 And then it takes it up, boy, 00:23:40.45\00:23:41.78 I could tell you that, that'll be emotionally moving 00:23:41.82\00:23:44.22 because it's a message in the first and foremost. 00:23:44.29\00:23:46.02 Right. 00:23:46.05\00:23:47.39 It's not just, we want you to live that way 00:23:47.46\00:23:48.92 but we're saying that in order for us 00:23:48.96\00:23:51.06 to be a blessing to you, we have to live that way also. 00:23:51.09\00:23:52.93 Yes, amen. 00:23:52.96\00:23:54.30 That's interesting. 00:23:54.33\00:23:55.66 So the music is moving you 00:23:55.70\00:23:57.57 as you're preparing to move others. 00:23:57.60\00:23:59.47 So you're going forth in the armor. 00:23:59.50\00:24:01.60 And if you notice in scripture, 00:24:01.64\00:24:02.97 and I know you've seen this before, 00:24:03.00\00:24:05.34 in many of the instances of the Israelites, 00:24:05.37\00:24:08.04 they go into battle singing. 00:24:08.08\00:24:09.54 Yeah. 00:24:09.58\00:24:11.18 It's a precursor, 00:24:11.21\00:24:12.55 and then they come out of the battles, 00:24:12.58\00:24:13.92 the songs of victory. 00:24:13.95\00:24:15.65 So have you seen that aspect of your ministry? 00:24:15.68\00:24:20.16 Well, as they said, 00:24:20.19\00:24:21.52 we hear testimonies from other guys. 00:24:21.56\00:24:23.43 So we know guys among us, as well as ourselves, 00:24:23.46\00:24:26.39 are singing from their own experience 00:24:26.43\00:24:28.00 and the gratitude they feel for what the Lord has done. 00:24:28.03\00:24:31.60 Our earlier ministry to Ukraine, 00:24:31.63\00:24:33.20 they told us about lives changed, 85 baptisms. 00:24:33.23\00:24:36.10 I mean to have any part in that at all, 00:24:36.14\00:24:38.37 it's just amazing opportunity. 00:24:38.41\00:24:40.68 Wow! 00:24:40.71\00:24:42.04 Praise God. 00:24:42.08\00:24:44.68 Paul, in this group, 00:24:44.71\00:24:49.65 being the single guy, 00:24:49.68\00:24:52.65 how do you find this group ministering to you? 00:24:52.69\00:24:56.46 I know both of these gentlemen are married, grandchildren. 00:24:56.49\00:25:00.93 But as a single man, 00:25:00.96\00:25:02.33 how does the ministry of this group impact your life? 00:25:02.36\00:25:06.37 Well, it gives me a sobering look at marriage 00:25:06.40\00:25:09.77 when I hear other people's stories and... 00:25:09.80\00:25:13.98 Now in a good way, 00:25:14.01\00:25:15.34 it helps me to take it seriously 00:25:15.38\00:25:16.75 and look forward to... 00:25:16.78\00:25:18.11 You know, these guys are looking back 00:25:18.15\00:25:19.48 on ups and downs 00:25:19.51\00:25:21.22 in their lives and their marriages. 00:25:21.25\00:25:23.89 It encourages me to, 00:25:23.92\00:25:25.69 "Okay, when it's in God's will for me 00:25:25.72\00:25:29.62 to go down that road, 00:25:29.66\00:25:30.99 I'll maybe learn some of these lessons." 00:25:31.03\00:25:34.86 Well, that's true. 00:25:34.90\00:25:36.23 And I hope you both are good witness 00:25:36.26\00:25:37.63 to him in that respect 00:25:37.67\00:25:39.00 because it sounds a little ominous, 00:25:39.03\00:25:40.64 he thinks that marriage is an ominous experience, like, 00:25:40.67\00:25:43.34 "Do I have to do this?" 00:25:43.41\00:25:44.74 But... 00:25:44.77\00:25:46.11 It's the best thing that happened to me. 00:25:46.14\00:25:47.48 Exactly. 00:25:47.51\00:25:48.84 And I must say, after many years of marriage, 00:25:48.88\00:25:50.38 praise the Lord, I wouldn't be who I am today 00:25:50.45\00:25:53.05 if I didn't have the wife I have. 00:25:53.08\00:25:54.95 I know and there are many of you 00:25:54.98\00:25:56.45 that share the same experience. 00:25:56.48\00:25:58.72 But now the music wise because how... 00:25:58.75\00:26:01.79 Are you all... 00:26:01.82\00:26:03.16 Let me just ask this other question. 00:26:03.19\00:26:04.63 How many of you go to the same church? 00:26:04.66\00:26:07.83 Paul and I do. 00:26:07.86\00:26:09.20 Okay, you and Paul do. 00:26:09.23\00:26:10.67 So then you have an opportunity to minister at your church 00:26:10.70\00:26:13.74 on a more continuous basis in music. 00:26:13.77\00:26:17.44 Do you sing locally? 00:26:17.51\00:26:20.21 Yeah. 00:26:20.28\00:26:21.64 His Praise is a more local group, 00:26:21.68\00:26:23.35 that smaller group I'm a part of. 00:26:23.38\00:26:27.42 I'm involved in a music group, our praise team at the church, 00:26:27.45\00:26:31.52 at Sunnyside church. 00:26:31.55\00:26:32.89 So yeah, 00:26:32.92\00:26:34.26 I love to take music wherever I go. 00:26:34.29\00:26:35.99 Okay. 00:26:36.02\00:26:37.53 And, David, at that local level, 00:26:37.56\00:26:39.16 he mentioned the group His Praise, 00:26:39.19\00:26:41.00 is that a quartet or... 00:26:41.03\00:26:42.90 No, it's a men's chorus 00:26:42.93\00:26:44.27 based in Vancouver and Portland area, yeah. 00:26:44.30\00:26:48.07 You brought a video with you today. 00:26:48.10\00:26:50.11 Tell me what this video is about 00:26:50.14\00:26:52.04 before we let our audience... 00:26:52.07\00:26:54.01 The one I think is probably about our ministry 00:26:54.08\00:26:56.34 in Romania in 2009, it's made from that. 00:26:56.38\00:26:59.31 Okay. 00:26:59.35\00:27:00.72 Introduce the people there whatnot. 00:27:00.75\00:27:02.38 And if I'm understanding correctly, 00:27:02.42\00:27:03.79 your background is Romanian. 00:27:03.82\00:27:05.32 Yeah, it is. 00:27:05.35\00:27:06.69 Well, okay. 00:27:06.76\00:27:08.09 So let's take a look at this, and then we'll go back 00:27:08.12\00:27:09.46 and make some comments on the other side. 00:27:09.49\00:27:11.03 Thank you so much for that video. 00:30:05.17\00:30:06.53 I want to just kind of recap what we just saw, David. 00:30:06.57\00:30:12.27 Obviously, it was in a foreign language. 00:30:12.31\00:30:14.11 But I know our viewers 00:30:14.18\00:30:15.51 were able to follow the caption below. 00:30:15.54\00:30:17.88 Tell us about that trip that you were on. 00:30:17.91\00:30:20.15 That came from our trip to Ukraine in 2017. 00:30:20.22\00:30:23.59 And the one speaking was the president of the union 00:30:23.62\00:30:25.85 of that portion of Ukraine. 00:30:25.89\00:30:29.36 Since we don't solicit mission trips, 00:30:29.39\00:30:31.63 we would be fine singing in Oregon, 00:30:31.66\00:30:34.03 in the United States. 00:30:34.10\00:30:35.73 But we've gotten requests from Romania, 00:30:35.76\00:30:37.90 twice for South Africa, and then for Ukraine. 00:30:37.93\00:30:42.10 So when we get an invitation, 00:30:42.14\00:30:43.91 we accept that assuming it's coming from the Lord, 00:30:43.94\00:30:46.88 they don't have any reason to bring us over on their own. 00:30:46.91\00:30:49.74 So we get as much information and details as we can. 00:30:49.78\00:30:53.72 In Ukraine, we had a terrific team there 00:30:53.75\00:30:56.35 doing the logistics and making the plans 00:30:56.38\00:30:57.99 of exactly where we would go. 00:30:58.02\00:30:59.49 We send an advanced team over 00:30:59.52\00:31:01.09 to help select venues and whatnot. 00:31:01.12\00:31:04.03 But when that begins to solidify, 00:31:04.06\00:31:06.13 then we see the Lord's hand putting the pieces together. 00:31:06.16\00:31:09.53 And if we get a serious invitation like that, 00:31:09.56\00:31:11.47 if it's enough in the future where we can plan, 00:31:11.50\00:31:13.64 provide forth, and we try to do those. 00:31:13.67\00:31:17.01 How many guys went over with you? 00:31:17.04\00:31:18.77 Twenty-nine was all from our chorus. 00:31:18.81\00:31:22.04 But then we were joined by 50 men in Ukraine, 00:31:22.08\00:31:24.41 another 10 or so from Romania. 00:31:24.45\00:31:26.48 Okay. 00:31:26.51\00:31:27.85 So we had a chorus of 75 or 80 something like that, 00:31:27.88\00:31:30.39 plus an orchestra. 00:31:30.42\00:31:31.75 Now that must be interesting 00:31:31.79\00:31:33.12 because what happens is you're taking those 00:31:33.15\00:31:34.49 who speak English and those who speak Romanian. 00:31:34.52\00:31:38.46 Well, and their music is... 00:31:38.49\00:31:39.93 Ben could tell you more, 00:31:40.00\00:31:41.33 their music is very different from ours, plus the language. 00:31:41.36\00:31:44.60 So we take their language, put it into phonetics 00:31:44.63\00:31:47.64 and write the phonetics in our language 00:31:47.67\00:31:49.07 so we actually can sing in Ukrainian sort of. 00:31:49.10\00:31:51.11 Okay. 00:31:51.14\00:31:52.47 They take our English songs, 00:31:52.51\00:31:53.98 put it into phonetics for Ukrainian, 00:31:54.01\00:31:55.64 so we're singing... 00:31:55.68\00:31:57.15 We sing probably three or four in Ukrainian 00:31:57.18\00:31:59.25 and the rest they have to learn to do it in English. 00:31:59.28\00:32:01.92 So it's a wonderful mixture that we do. 00:32:01.95\00:32:04.19 So this is not the Bible, 00:32:04.22\00:32:05.55 but you guys were singing in tone. 00:32:05.59\00:32:06.99 Yes. Yeah. 00:32:07.06\00:32:08.39 And the Holy Spirit is helping them 00:32:08.42\00:32:10.53 with our English and helping us with their Ukrainian. 00:32:10.56\00:32:13.13 It's a great, great experience. 00:32:13.16\00:32:14.56 Ben, as a director tell us about that experience. 00:32:14.60\00:32:16.70 It was pretty impressive to pull in to these towns 00:32:16.77\00:32:19.33 with three huge buses 00:32:19.37\00:32:21.37 and, you know, all of that. 00:32:21.40\00:32:25.37 It was an incredible experience to many in the orchestra 00:32:25.41\00:32:30.25 were not even Christians, 00:32:30.28\00:32:32.31 but they were hired to play. 00:32:32.35\00:32:33.72 And of course, you know, 00:32:33.75\00:32:35.08 you do whatever gig you can find 00:32:35.12\00:32:36.45 as an instrumentalist, you know. 00:32:36.48\00:32:37.99 And so they were hired to travel 00:32:38.02\00:32:39.79 and do this tour with us. 00:32:39.82\00:32:41.52 And the interaction and bonding between them and the chorus, 00:32:41.56\00:32:47.23 all of that was incredible to see. 00:32:47.30\00:32:51.07 The challenge I faced was 00:32:51.10\00:32:53.64 every instruction I gave to the chorus 00:32:53.67\00:32:56.37 had to be translated twice. 00:32:56.40\00:32:58.91 So it had to be translated into Romania 00:32:58.94\00:33:00.38 and had to be translated into Ukrainian. 00:33:00.41\00:33:02.28 So that obviously took more time and patience. 00:33:02.31\00:33:07.45 But to me, the greatest experience 00:33:07.52\00:33:09.42 was in one of the towns, 00:33:09.45\00:33:11.52 and I don't remember the name of it. 00:33:11.55\00:33:14.56 The mayor of the town did not want us to come. 00:33:14.59\00:33:16.52 Mariupol'. Okay. 00:33:16.56\00:33:18.49 What was the town? Mariupol'. 00:33:18.53\00:33:20.03 Mariupol'. 00:33:20.10\00:33:21.43 And she did not want us to come, 00:33:21.46\00:33:22.80 and so she had not shut us down 00:33:22.83\00:33:24.33 but in front of the concert venue, 00:33:24.37\00:33:26.74 she had staged a festival day 00:33:26.77\00:33:30.34 with a very well known Ukrainian pop star 00:33:30.41\00:33:34.34 to do a concert 00:33:34.38\00:33:35.94 at the same time our concert was supposed to be done. 00:33:35.98\00:33:38.78 And her stage was set up 00:33:38.81\00:33:40.32 right at the front of the building 00:33:40.35\00:33:42.28 where the people would come in. 00:33:42.32\00:33:43.69 Unbelievable. 00:33:43.72\00:33:45.05 And yet the workings of the Lord, 00:33:45.09\00:33:49.39 we had to turn people away, 00:33:49.42\00:33:51.23 it was standing room only, 00:33:51.26\00:33:52.59 and we had to turn people away, 00:33:52.63\00:33:54.53 even while the rock concert was going on outside 00:33:54.56\00:33:56.80 or the pop concert was going on outside. 00:33:56.87\00:33:58.53 Wow. 00:33:58.57\00:33:59.90 And it was really an incredible experience 00:33:59.93\00:34:03.10 to see the Lord work in such a mighty way 00:34:03.14\00:34:06.04 and people to... 00:34:06.07\00:34:07.51 Many of them introduced to Christianity 00:34:07.58\00:34:11.55 through our concerts. 00:34:11.58\00:34:13.05 I was only... 00:34:13.08\00:34:14.42 I'm thinking about that, 00:34:14.45\00:34:15.78 and I remember the phrase in the Bible, 00:34:15.82\00:34:17.19 the Apostle Paul says, 00:34:17.22\00:34:18.55 "You can do nothing against the truth 00:34:18.59\00:34:20.26 only for the truth." 00:34:20.29\00:34:21.62 Yes. 00:34:21.66\00:34:22.99 So when the Lord establishes something... 00:34:23.02\00:34:24.36 She actually gave you guys free advertised. 00:34:24.39\00:34:25.76 That's right. That's right. 00:34:25.79\00:34:27.33 She set up a venue right in front of the building 00:34:27.40\00:34:29.70 and the people... 00:34:29.73\00:34:31.07 There are probably some people that came, 00:34:31.10\00:34:33.34 "You know, let's go over here instead" 00:34:33.37\00:34:35.17 and you have that outside crowd. 00:34:35.20\00:34:37.97 Paul, tell us about that 00:34:38.01\00:34:39.34 because this is now your language. 00:34:39.37\00:34:42.54 Close, I'm Romanian, and that was in Ukraine. 00:34:42.58\00:34:45.18 Okay. 00:34:45.21\00:34:46.55 And the language is like completely different. 00:34:46.58\00:34:48.05 Okay. 00:34:48.08\00:34:49.75 However, that experience was very special to me. 00:34:49.78\00:34:52.35 I was completely naive. 00:34:52.39\00:34:54.42 I was just walking in the line with guys. 00:34:54.46\00:34:56.62 "Oh, look, a concert. 00:34:56.66\00:34:57.99 Oh, look, guys are in military uniform." 00:34:58.03\00:35:00.30 "Okay, let's just do our thing." 00:35:00.33\00:35:02.63 We showed up, did our thing, came out, I was hungry, 00:35:02.66\00:35:05.90 let's go home, sitting on the bus. 00:35:05.93\00:35:08.04 And here our organizer gets up on the bus, 00:35:08.07\00:35:10.81 you know, the local man there who was helping us. 00:35:10.84\00:35:14.34 Absolutely ecstatic, you know, 00:35:14.38\00:35:16.51 spattering stuff out we couldn't understand him, 00:35:16.54\00:35:18.65 somebody translated. 00:35:18.68\00:35:20.72 Basically, he was saying 00:35:20.75\00:35:22.08 that he was told there was no chance 00:35:22.12\00:35:24.95 he could have any success in this town 00:35:24.99\00:35:28.09 and that he has just seen a miracle 00:35:28.12\00:35:29.49 with his own eyes. 00:35:29.52\00:35:31.89 The neat thing about that, apparently, in Ukraine, 00:35:31.93\00:35:35.46 the Orthodox Church is very strong 00:35:35.50\00:35:37.37 and if you're not orthodox, 00:35:37.40\00:35:38.73 they picture you as hardly Christian, 00:35:38.77\00:35:40.64 whether you're Adventist, or Baptist, 00:35:40.67\00:35:42.00 or Lutheran, or whatever. 00:35:42.04\00:35:43.74 And they said when we got back, the tour, 00:35:43.81\00:35:47.18 the Lord used another way to raise 00:35:47.21\00:35:48.54 not only the public perception of Seventh-day Adventists, 00:35:48.58\00:35:50.98 but also Christianity in general 00:35:51.01\00:35:53.11 which was a neat thing. 00:35:53.15\00:35:54.48 We had no way of working out, but the Lord worked it out. 00:35:54.52\00:35:57.69 It's just smoother way to improve the perception 00:35:57.72\00:36:00.16 of the public of Christianity in general, 00:36:00.19\00:36:02.66 you didn't have to be orthodox for them to think well of you. 00:36:02.69\00:36:05.96 And that's amazing because we know 00:36:05.99\00:36:07.73 in the Eastern Bloc nations, 00:36:07.76\00:36:09.63 you know, the Orthodox Church, 00:36:09.66\00:36:11.60 whether it's Russian Orthodox or whatever nation 00:36:11.63\00:36:15.40 that orthodox faith is established in, 00:36:15.44\00:36:17.41 it's a bulwark, you know, 00:36:17.44\00:36:19.17 you're coming in a wall in reality, 00:36:19.21\00:36:22.44 and they protect their territory 00:36:22.48\00:36:25.28 very, very well not wanting anybody. 00:36:25.31\00:36:28.28 And give us some more insight into that 00:36:28.32\00:36:30.19 because I'm making reference 00:36:30.22\00:36:31.69 to something that's part of your experience. 00:36:31.72\00:36:35.26 I was born in the United States. 00:36:35.29\00:36:37.33 Okay. 00:36:37.36\00:36:38.69 So I've only heard stories. 00:36:38.73\00:36:40.60 But the bigotry can be very strong. 00:36:40.63\00:36:44.97 I heard a story... 00:36:48.54\00:36:50.31 A pastor I met in Florida 00:36:50.34\00:36:52.31 came from that part of the world 00:36:52.34\00:36:53.68 that he said he was working 00:36:53.71\00:36:55.24 in an area where the local priest, 00:36:55.28\00:36:58.51 orthodox priest told his parishioners, 00:36:58.55\00:37:01.85 it's okay for you to throw rocks at this pastor, 00:37:01.88\00:37:04.35 this Adventist pastor. 00:37:04.39\00:37:08.32 Not saying they're all like that of course but... 00:37:08.36\00:37:09.92 Right. 00:37:09.96\00:37:11.33 Now that's just a level of some of what they face. 00:37:11.36\00:37:13.19 Yeah. 00:37:13.23\00:37:14.56 Wow, wow. 00:37:14.60\00:37:15.93 But then you went over there singing 00:37:15.96\00:37:17.30 in practically three different languages, 00:37:17.37\00:37:20.64 in fact, English and... 00:37:20.67\00:37:23.04 Ukrainian. 00:37:23.07\00:37:24.41 Ukrainian and... 00:37:24.44\00:37:25.77 Didn't we do one song in Romanian? 00:37:25.81\00:37:28.68 I don't know. 00:37:28.71\00:37:30.05 No, I don't think we did on this trip. 00:37:30.08\00:37:31.41 But at least in two languages, 00:37:31.45\00:37:32.98 they're learning your language, you're learning their language. 00:37:33.01\00:37:35.15 But it's interesting. 00:37:35.18\00:37:36.52 One of the reasons I think that the Lord puts us together 00:37:36.55\00:37:38.42 in particularly in Ukraine, 00:37:38.45\00:37:41.26 they view us of course as rich Americans. 00:37:41.29\00:37:43.86 They have no idea 00:37:43.93\00:37:45.26 how hard our guys work to raise money. 00:37:45.29\00:37:47.40 A lot of our guys don't go 00:37:47.43\00:37:48.76 'cause they simply can't raise the funds. 00:37:48.80\00:37:50.57 But over the years, we've had people 00:37:50.60\00:37:52.43 travel several hundred miles 00:37:52.47\00:37:53.84 and bring back a trailer full of boxes of apples, 00:37:53.87\00:37:56.50 sell apples to raise money. 00:37:56.54\00:37:59.07 People sold motorcycles, 00:37:59.11\00:38:00.61 they've contacted their relatives and say, 00:38:00.68\00:38:02.01 "When my birthday and Christmas comes, 00:38:02.04\00:38:03.58 please give me a present of cash instead of a gift." 00:38:03.65\00:38:06.95 And they work very hard to raise the money. 00:38:07.02\00:38:09.65 We have one, what I would call major donor, 00:38:09.68\00:38:12.42 but the rest of the guys do their very hardest work. 00:38:12.45\00:38:15.12 But our American dollar goes farther 00:38:15.16\00:38:18.56 in some of those countries. 00:38:18.59\00:38:19.93 In Ukraine, the trip wouldn't have happened 00:38:20.00\00:38:22.36 if we hadn't been able to go 00:38:22.40\00:38:24.17 because we funded the transportation, the buses, 00:38:24.20\00:38:28.00 the food, the lodging, and the orchestra. 00:38:28.04\00:38:31.27 And not that it's easy for us either because it isn't. 00:38:31.31\00:38:33.91 But still the Lord used American contributions and all 00:38:33.98\00:38:37.45 so that the tour could happen. 00:38:37.48\00:38:39.31 I think I mentioned there were 85 baptisms out of that 00:38:39.35\00:38:42.05 because our tour was in cities 00:38:42.08\00:38:44.62 that would follow with Bible studies 00:38:44.65\00:38:46.62 and evangelistic meetings 00:38:46.65\00:38:47.99 to try and raise an interest for that 00:38:48.02\00:38:49.36 which the Lord used it to do. 00:38:49.39\00:38:51.36 So 85 baptisms just financially, 00:38:51.39\00:38:56.70 you know, the tour wouldn't have happened 00:38:56.77\00:38:58.33 without the Lord using us to go over there. 00:38:58.37\00:39:00.67 Wow. 00:39:00.74\00:39:02.07 So we scrimped and saved like anybody would 00:39:02.10\00:39:03.51 but at least they're wonderful results 00:39:03.54\00:39:04.91 that the Lord makes out of that effort. 00:39:04.94\00:39:06.98 Was it on one of these trips that the song 00:39:07.01\00:39:08.94 "I Then Shall Live" was born? 00:39:08.98\00:39:12.15 Oh, it was sung in Romania I think first... 00:39:12.18\00:39:14.72 I don't know that we did that in Ukraine but... 00:39:14.75\00:39:16.69 We didn't do it in Ukraine, we did it in South Africa. 00:39:16.72\00:39:18.62 In South Africa? Yeah. 00:39:18.65\00:39:20.06 And that's an amazing experience 00:39:20.09\00:39:21.79 that I want to be able to share with our viewing audience. 00:39:21.82\00:39:25.03 "I Then Shall Live" 00:39:25.06\00:39:26.39 we talked about it earlier in the program, 00:39:26.43\00:39:28.56 but we're going to roll a video here 00:39:28.60\00:39:30.47 to let you see the power in that song, 00:39:30.50\00:39:33.84 a song that talks about not only the commitments 00:39:33.87\00:39:36.47 that we have as individuals to the gospel 00:39:36.50\00:39:38.54 to representing Christ, 00:39:38.57\00:39:40.61 but what we're also trying to activate 00:39:40.68\00:39:42.28 in the lives of those 00:39:42.31\00:39:43.95 who are listening to the message in song. 00:39:43.98\00:39:46.48 Amen.
