I want to spend my life 00:00:01.60\00:00:06.80 Mending broken people 00:00:07.40\00:00:12.27 I want to spend my life 00:00:12.34\00:00:17.91 Removing pain 00:00:18.65\00:00:23.18 Lord, let my words 00:00:23.82\00:00:28.76 Heal a heart that hurts 00:00:30.03\00:00:33.96 I want to spend my life 00:00:34.46\00:00:39.37 Mending broken people 00:00:40.30\00:00:44.74 I want to spend my life 00:00:45.67\00:00:50.55 Mending broken people 00:00:51.28\00:00:56.05 - Hello and welcome to another 3ABN Today program. Thank 00:01:09.53\00:01:12.23 you for joining us as you do each and every day! 00:01:12.33\00:01:14.77 I'm blessed by a lovely co-host. - Yay! - My wife 00:01:14.84\00:01:17.74 Yvonne, how are you today? - I'm doing well, thank you. 00:01:17.81\00:01:20.38 - All right. You're looking spiffy. - Well, thank you; 00:01:20.44\00:01:22.11 so are you! [laughter] - All right. Now we'll move 00:01:22.18\00:01:24.85 on to the main part of the program. We know 00:01:24.95\00:01:28.05 that you're blessed. And don't forget every day 00:01:28.15\00:01:30.49 to thank the Lord for what He has done in your life, 00:01:30.59\00:01:32.95 because without Him there is no life. With Jesus Christ 00:01:33.05\00:01:36.22 and acceptance of Him committing- literally, if 00:01:36.32\00:01:39.93 we go to Him and confess our sins, He's faithful and 00:01:40.03\00:01:42.86 just to forgive us from our sins and to cleanse 00:01:42.96\00:01:45.33 us from some unrighteousness. - Oh... - All right, all 00:01:45.47\00:01:48.30 unrighteousness. - That's right. - Aren't you glad 00:01:48.44\00:01:50.31 about that? So, just think about it. The great God 00:01:50.41\00:01:53.38 of the universe has a home prepared for you and me 00:01:53.48\00:01:56.28 with our names there. And if they're written down in 00:01:56.38\00:01:59.68 the Lamb's Book of Life and all we have to do is, 00:01:59.78\00:02:02.38 as I've said already, confess to Jesus. He's faithful- He 00:02:02.48\00:02:06.02 wants to forgive us. He died that none should 00:02:06.12\00:02:08.12 perish but all should have everlasting life. So, the 00:02:08.22\00:02:11.96 news today from 3ABN to you is good news: Jesus 00:02:12.03\00:02:15.86 loves you, He died for you and made a plan of 00:02:15.96\00:02:18.00 salvation for you, He's coming back very soon 00:02:18.10\00:02:20.70 in the clouds of glory to call each and every one 00:02:20.80\00:02:23.64 of us home. Isn't that great news - Oh, man. 00:02:23.74\00:02:25.81 And you know, the... I guess the older I get, 00:02:25.87\00:02:28.81 the more I just appreciate the fact that this is just 00:02:28.91\00:02:32.98 temporary-but we have an eternal home. We have 00:02:33.05\00:02:37.02 an eternal home in heaven! So, what a blessing that 00:02:37.09\00:02:39.85 is to know that we can be with Him forever. 00:02:39.95\00:02:41.96 - Absolutely. And what a blessing for us that we're 00:02:42.09\00:02:44.36 able to work with people in ministry around the 00:02:44.46\00:02:46.90 world, have the same goals, same mission, as we do 00:02:46.96\00:02:50.27 here at 3ABN, and as you do at home-and that's to take 00:02:50.33\00:02:53.30 the gospel into all the world. And with that- 00:02:53.37\00:02:55.94 that's my little segue to introduce... - That 00:02:56.07\00:02:57.77 was good! [laughter] - Introduce brother Steve 00:02:57.87\00:02:59.51 Dickman. Steve, how are you doing? - I'm fine, 00:02:59.57\00:03:01.48 thank you. It's good to be here with you. - Thank 00:03:01.54\00:03:03.38 you! What a privilege to have you here today, 00:03:03.45\00:03:05.38 and you're the president of Harbert Hills? And 00:03:05.48\00:03:07.95 tell us where Harbert Hills is-and what is it? It's 00:03:08.02\00:03:11.85 a...school? Is it a... - Yeah! - Okay. - Harbert 00:03:11.95\00:03:15.49 Hills Academy is located in Savannah, Tennessee. Well, 00:03:15.56\00:03:18.89 near Savannah, Tennessee. - Okay. - We're kind of like 00:03:18.99\00:03:21.06 you are here. You say your nearest town may 00:03:21.16\00:03:24.33 be Thompsonville or West Frankfort, but reality is 00:03:24.40\00:03:28.30 you're kinda in the country. - Yeah, that's right. [laughter] 00:03:28.44\00:03:31.37 We like it. - And so, that's how it is for us there at 00:03:31.51\00:03:33.71 Harbert Hills Academy; we're located in the country. 00:03:33.81\00:03:35.74 - Okay. - And so, we praise God for that, 00:03:35.84\00:03:38.11 because we like the country. But Harbert Hills Academy 00:03:38.18\00:03:41.45 was started 1951. It's an outgrowth of the work 00:03:41.52\00:03:45.15 that happened at Madison College in Madison, Tennessee. 00:03:45.22\00:03:48.72 And for those who know something about that, 00:03:48.79\00:03:52.09 Madison was started in 1904. Ellen White helped to found 00:03:53.90\00:03:57.23 that school and to give it a philosophy of education- 00:03:57.30\00:04:01.54 and the philosophy there was, you should be a 00:04:01.60\00:04:05.97 missionary-and we're here to train missionaries, 00:04:06.01\00:04:08.81 and the mission idea was that you would be trained, 00:04:08.94\00:04:13.55 and then you would go out and start something 00:04:13.65\00:04:15.02 where there was nothing else going on to get the 00:04:15.12\00:04:17.65 gospel into the areas. Specifically at that point 00:04:17.75\00:04:20.36 in time, there's a lot of concern for the southern 00:04:20.46\00:04:22.99 part of the United States. The Civil War was over, 00:04:23.09\00:04:25.39 but still it was not the prime area of our country. 00:04:25.49\00:04:29.53 And so, she was promoting people to go out and start 00:04:29.60\00:04:33.17 things in the southern part of the United States. 00:04:33.23\00:04:36.04 And so, Harbert Hills Academy came out of 00:04:36.14\00:04:37.97 that environment. Both of my parents attended 00:04:38.04\00:04:40.78 Madison College, so they were there at Madison. 00:04:40.88\00:04:43.98 - All right. - My father came from California; 00:04:44.08\00:04:46.08 my mother was living in Tennessee at the time, 00:04:46.18\00:04:48.78 but she came to Madison, as well. And both of them 00:04:48.88\00:04:52.12 came for an interesting reason: their parents 00:04:52.22\00:04:54.79 didn't have the resources to pay for their college 00:04:54.89\00:04:58.36 education. And so, Madison was a place where you could 00:04:58.43\00:05:02.06 come, and if you would learn to work like they taught you 00:05:02.16\00:05:05.80 in that program, you could work your way through 00:05:05.90\00:05:07.94 school. - Oh, that's great. - And so, both 00:05:08.00\00:05:10.17 of my parents worked their way through Madison 00:05:10.24\00:05:12.34 College. They're sitting in chapel one day down 00:05:12.44\00:05:16.51 toward the end of their time there, and they 00:05:16.58\00:05:19.05 had been married by that point. They had met each 00:05:19.15\00:05:21.25 other and were married, and the individual giving 00:05:21.35\00:05:25.95 the chapel talk said, "I'm going to start a 00:05:26.02\00:05:27.69 new school, and I need some help." And so he 00:05:27.79\00:05:31.59 made his appeal. He said, "Are there any students 00:05:31.66\00:05:34.16 here who'd be willing to help start a new school, 00:05:34.26\00:05:36.53 pioneer a work? And we have this little place we're 00:05:36.60\00:05:39.87 interested in down in Savannah, Tennessee, 00:05:39.97\00:05:42.64 and there's no Seventh-day Adventist presence in nine 00:05:42.74\00:05:45.54 or ten different counties there." - Mm. - And as I 00:05:45.64\00:05:49.04 heard the story, my mother kind of gave the elbow to 00:05:49.14\00:05:53.11 my father and said, "Louie, I think that's us." - Okay! 00:05:53.21\00:05:57.25 - And so, they committed their lives to Harbert Hills 00:05:57.32\00:06:00.16 Academy and to service to God there, and I was 00:06:00.26\00:06:02.96 born there. So, I have a little history attachment 00:06:03.02\00:06:05.26 to the school. - I'll say you have a lot of history. 00:06:05.33\00:06:08.66 Steve is also a president of ASI. You've been there 00:06:08.76\00:06:14.34 and were recently re-elected, right? - Yes. - And so, you 00:06:14.40\00:06:18.24 have a busy schedule. - Yeah, I would say so. 00:06:18.34\00:06:21.98 - He has a tremendously busy schedule. So, doing 00:06:22.08\00:06:25.58 both-but you're able to do it. God has blessed 00:06:25.68\00:06:28.12 you. He's given you health and a good brain and a 00:06:28.18\00:06:30.69 great-and I would say instilled from your parents- 00:06:30.75\00:06:34.62 great love for the ministry and getting the gospel 00:06:34.76\00:06:37.53 to the world. And so, we're so thankful, again, 00:06:37.63\00:06:40.80 that you're here today. Before we go any farther 00:06:40.90\00:06:42.56 though, we do have some special music, and we're 00:06:42.66\00:06:45.37 going to do the music, and then we're going to 00:06:45.47\00:06:46.80 come back. We want you at home to call your friends, 00:06:46.87\00:06:49.54 your enemies, everybody... Let them know that 3ABN, 00:06:49.60\00:06:51.97 we have a great guest today. We're going to 00:06:52.11\00:06:53.78 be hearing some miracle stories. I know you like 00:06:53.88\00:06:55.71 that. Brother Steve Dickman is here. But right now, it's 00:06:55.78\00:06:58.91 my privilege to introduce some great friends of ours, 00:06:59.01\00:07:01.12 the Birchfield brothers. 00:07:01.22\00:07:03.95 - Praise the Lord. Is that beautiful or what? - Oh, it's 00:09:26.16\00:09:28.43 so peaceful, isn't it? It's just very relaxing and 00:09:28.53\00:09:31.33 tranquil. - And what a Friend we have in Jesus. 00:09:31.43\00:09:34.04 - Yes, indeed. - That's what we're talking about 00:09:34.14\00:09:35.97 today. That's what you were sharing with the 00:09:36.07\00:09:37.97 world. You're doing it in an area here in Tennessee- 00:09:38.04\00:09:41.54 you say near Savannah. You've given us a little 00:09:41.64\00:09:43.88 bit of the background with your folks going 00:09:43.98\00:09:46.18 there and you being basically born there-and the year 00:09:46.28\00:09:49.62 your folks went down there was the year I was born. 00:09:49.75\00:09:52.32 So, I'll remember that-1951. I know I look a lot older, but 00:09:52.35\00:09:56.76 I wasn't born until 1951. - Oh, no! - So, we want to 00:09:56.86\00:10:01.16 find out a little more about the school, and I'm sure 00:10:01.26\00:10:04.03 you've got some questions, too... - Oh, yes. - ...about it 00:10:04.13\00:10:06.77 and find out, you know, is it connected with the church, 00:10:06.84\00:10:10.24 is it self-supporting... There are a number of 00:10:10.31\00:10:12.91 things, and I'm sure you have some... What questions 00:10:12.97\00:10:15.01 you want out asking him? - I was asking him 00:10:15.11\00:10:17.68 about the enrollment. Like, what is the enrollment 00:10:19.45\00:10:22.92 at the school? How many kids do you have there? 00:10:23.02\00:10:25.65 - So, we have about 60 students, and they come 00:10:25.72\00:10:28.59 from, interestingly, all over the world. It was 00:10:28.66\00:10:32.59 probably 10-15 years ago we started accepting a few 00:10:32.69\00:10:36.00 students from out of the country. - Okay. - And 00:10:36.06\00:10:38.50 somehow, they got multiplied, and we have a lot of 00:10:38.57\00:10:41.00 applications from out of the country-students that 00:10:41.10\00:10:43.81 want to come to the United States and study. Maybe 00:10:43.91\00:10:47.11 some of them just want to get to the United States; 00:10:47.21\00:10:50.31 that's probably a possibility. But our program is unique 00:10:50.41\00:10:54.02 in that that Madison model of education was to provide 00:10:54.08\00:10:58.45 a balanced education, or you might say an 00:10:58.55\00:11:01.66 all-around education. We believe that education 00:11:01.72\00:11:04.23 is more than what you learn in the classroom. 00:11:04.33\00:11:06.26 - Okay. - Not that classrooms aren't something good, 00:11:06.36\00:11:09.36 because we all need certain information, and we better 00:11:09.40\00:11:13.34 get it in the best environment we can-but there's a lot 00:11:13.44\00:11:17.07 more to education than that. My study of education over 00:11:17.11\00:11:22.48 the years-and I've been doing this about 00:11:22.54\00:11:24.08 28 years now-and so in my role for Harbert Hills 00:11:24.11\00:11:31.35 Academy, it's been a while. I just continue to study 00:11:31.42\00:11:35.62 this idea of education: what God really wants in regard 00:11:35.72\00:11:40.30 to this. First of all, think of Genesis. Where 00:11:40.40\00:11:45.87 did God put Adam and Eve? - In a garden. 00:11:45.97\00:11:48.57 - He put them in a garden. Why did He put them there? 00:11:48.64\00:11:51.64 You think, "Well, he wanted a nice place 00:11:52.67\00:11:55.31 for them." That's true, but there was something 00:11:55.38\00:11:57.55 more than that. And if you read Genesis chapter 00:11:57.61\00:11:59.68 2, you find it says, "And God took Adam 00:11:59.78\00:12:01.98 and Eve and put them in the garden to dress 00:12:02.05\00:12:05.29 it and to keep it." - Mhm. - Well, what's so significant 00:12:05.35\00:12:08.32 about that little sentence? Well, it encompasses the 00:12:08.42\00:12:11.46 whole plan of education- because who's the Teacher? 00:12:11.56\00:12:14.40 God Himself is the Teacher in this case, and He took 00:12:14.50\00:12:19.10 the students, Adam and Eve, and He put them 00:12:19.20\00:12:21.80 into the garden and He gave them useful 00:12:21.94\00:12:24.47 work to do. So, you have: God is the teacher. So, 00:12:24.57\00:12:28.81 in today's environment, since He can't come 00:12:28.91\00:12:31.55 personally, He gave us His Word, right? So we 00:12:31.65\00:12:33.98 have the Word of God, we have the-in nature, He 00:12:34.08\00:12:38.62 put them right there in nature-the study of 00:12:38.69\00:12:40.62 nature, we have useful work for them to do. 00:12:40.69\00:12:44.26 And along with the experiences that you have when you're 00:12:44.39\00:12:48.86 just living life, that was God's original plan of 00:12:48.93\00:12:52.33 education. Well, if you take that a little further 00:12:52.40\00:12:54.80 downstream and you look at, how did Jesus get His 00:12:54.90\00:12:56.91 education? Well, book education says from 00:12:57.04\00:13:00.91 four things: useful work, study of Scripture, study 00:13:01.01\00:13:05.28 of nature, and experiences of life. - Okay, that's good. 00:13:05.38\00:13:08.88 - So, we find that model of education in Genesis, 00:13:08.98\00:13:11.39 we find it-and actually, in the schools of the 00:13:11.49\00:13:13.96 prophets, as well-we find it in the life of Jesus... 00:13:14.06\00:13:16.62 And, you know, there are even indicators that 00:13:18.43\00:13:20.43 someday, when we get to the heavenly kingdom, we're 00:13:20.53\00:13:24.43 still going to continue our education, and we're 00:13:24.53\00:13:27.57 going to continue it on God's farm instead of our 00:13:27.67\00:13:30.34 farm here. - All right! - And so, it's very interesting 00:13:30.41\00:13:34.11 to see that God is consistent. And a lot of times today, 00:13:34.18\00:13:39.25 you see the high-tech education, and "We've got 00:13:39.35\00:13:42.45 to get a computer in the hand of every student," and this 00:13:42.55\00:13:45.59 kind of thing. But you know, God didn't do 00:13:45.65\00:13:47.46 that in the beginning. He could have, right? 00:13:47.56\00:13:50.79 God is God; He could've created an iPad for 00:13:50.89\00:13:53.43 everyone, right? - Yeah, right; sure. [laughter] 00:13:53.56\00:13:56.00 - Instead, He gave them a real apple tree. - Yeah, 00:13:56.10\00:13:58.37 there you go. Real apple. [laughter] - Said, "Grow 00:13:58.47\00:14:01.37 some of these and find out." - So, what are some 00:14:01.47\00:14:05.01 of the things that your students do there besides... 00:14:05.11\00:14:06.88 Once they get out of the classroom, what are 00:14:06.98\00:14:10.68 they learning? - So, the way that... The practical 00:14:10.75\00:14:14.25 training part of it is, at Harbert Hills Academy, 00:14:14.32\00:14:17.29 is that we have a 49-bed nursing home on our campus 00:14:17.35\00:14:21.66 owned by the school... - Okay. - ...For the purpose of a 00:14:21.76\00:14:24.36 training institution for the students. So, we 00:14:24.43\00:14:27.40 have 49 residents there, the students are involved 00:14:27.50\00:14:29.96 in cooking and cleaning and housekeeping... 00:14:30.07\00:14:32.33 And then, once they are mature enough, we train 00:14:32.40\00:14:35.54 them to be certified nurse assistants, and 00:14:35.60\00:14:38.14 they can actually do... - These are high school? 00:14:38.24\00:14:40.01 - Yeah! And they can do direct patient care. And 00:14:40.11\00:14:42.58 so, it's a very maturing experience... - I'll say. 00:14:42.68\00:14:47.78 - ...For them. And then, we have a farm. You can't 00:14:47.88\00:14:52.55 have school without a farm... - Yeah, what's 00:14:52.65\00:14:55.32 some of the things they do? You're growing different 00:14:55.42\00:14:57.66 crops? They're driving the tractors and all that? 00:14:57.79\00:15:00.86 - We grow berries and potatoes and cucumbers, 00:15:00.96\00:15:03.50 and we're just building some greenhouses, kind 00:15:03.60\00:15:06.27 of bringing... Our goal is to actually grow more 00:15:06.37\00:15:09.77 of what we eat. You know, we're pretty dependent 00:15:09.87\00:15:12.27 these days on going to Walmart, right? Or some 00:15:12.41\00:15:15.04 other grocery store; don't let me call out a certain 00:15:15.14\00:15:17.55 brand name here. But we go to the grocery store; 00:15:17.65\00:15:20.75 we expect that that's where our food comes 00:15:20.82\00:15:22.28 from. - Yeah!- But in the beginning, it wasn't 00:15:22.38\00:15:25.02 that way. - Right. - And there may come a time 00:15:25.12\00:15:27.72 when it's not going to be that way. And so, 00:15:27.82\00:15:29.76 learning to grow things is a very important part- 00:15:29.86\00:15:32.13 not just practically speaking but for their education. 00:15:32.19\00:15:35.36 - So the young folk get to learn farming a little 00:15:35.43\00:15:37.90 bit, right? - Yeah. - Gardening and farming. 00:15:38.03\00:15:40.37 - Gardening, farming... We have a bakery there 00:15:40.47\00:15:43.37 on campus, we have... Yeah. Also have a radio 00:15:43.44\00:15:48.38 station. So, we have a variety of things that 00:15:48.51\00:15:50.51 they're involved in, which are the practical training 00:15:50.58\00:15:53.01 opportunities to take what they learn in the 00:15:53.11\00:15:55.58 classroom and apply it so that you don't forget 00:15:55.65\00:15:58.59 it. Now, I'm going to assume something. I'm 00:15:58.65\00:16:01.29 going to assume in high school, you took algebra. 00:16:01.39\00:16:02.72 Is that true? - Yeah, I had to. [laughter] 00:16:02.79\00:16:05.73 Didn't really want to; I had to. - That's one 00:16:05.86\00:16:09.46 of those required courses, right? - Yeah. - But you 00:16:09.53\00:16:12.50 know what? We don't remember much of it. 00:16:12.60\00:16:15.04 - That's true, yeah. - Because we didn't 00:16:15.14\00:16:16.47 use it for anything. - Mhm. Good; I was 00:16:16.50\00:16:19.21 afraid he was gonna ask me something and I was 00:16:19.31\00:16:21.31 gonna have to know... - Better you than me. 00:16:21.38\00:16:23.48 - No, yeah. - You could certainly answer those 00:16:23.58\00:16:25.75 questions better than I. - No, but you also probably 00:16:25.81\00:16:28.55 took basic math where you learned to add and 00:16:28.62\00:16:30.99 subtract, right? - Yeah. - But you remember that, 00:16:31.05\00:16:33.42 right? - Absolutely. - Why? Because you use it. - Yeah, 00:16:33.49\00:16:35.86 that's right. - You know, you use it daily. - Yeah, 00:16:35.92\00:16:37.89 I was a carpenter for many years. - Okay, 00:16:37.96\00:16:39.69 so... - So, I really needed that. - And 00:16:39.76\00:16:41.10 you learned some geometry. - Yeah. - And I bet I could 00:16:41.13\00:16:43.37 ask you a question about how to build a building 00:16:43.47\00:16:45.07 related to geometry, and you could just tell me 00:16:45.13\00:16:47.17 like that. - Don't ask me any, but I can build 00:16:47.27\00:16:50.81 buildings. - He can! - Exactly, because why? 00:16:50.87\00:16:53.98 You used that skill that you learned. And so, we 00:16:54.08\00:16:56.85 feel that application is one of the keys to 00:16:56.91\00:17:00.18 education that has been, to some degree, neglected. 00:17:00.28\00:17:03.69 - Mhm. - And we learn a lot of theoretical 00:17:03.82\00:17:05.95 stuff. Even today, we send students to college 00:17:06.05\00:17:09.89 and they come out, and then they get the real 00:17:09.99\00:17:12.59 world and they're like, "What do I do now?" 00:17:12.69\00:17:14.53 - Absolutely. - Well, it should be that we 00:17:14.66\00:17:17.43 know something and have real skills when we come 00:17:17.50\00:17:20.47 out of school. - It is interesting that we 00:17:20.57\00:17:22.07 just spoke of heaven. The Bible says that 00:17:22.17\00:17:24.77 we'll do the work of our hands once we're in heaven. 00:17:24.84\00:17:28.24 In other words, we'll plant vineyards, and 00:17:28.34\00:17:29.98 we'll do the work. So as you said, continuing 00:17:30.08\00:17:32.38 education won't just be all in one area; it's 00:17:32.48\00:17:37.02 gonna be in the physical: out doing things, which 00:17:37.12\00:17:39.45 is amazing. Now, more recently, I think you 00:17:39.55\00:17:42.39 got into some building. Speaking of building 00:17:42.49\00:17:44.23 or trades, tell us a little bit what's happening 00:17:44.33\00:17:47.00 on that end, or just students... Are they 00:17:47.10\00:17:50.50 building houses, or...? What's happening? 00:17:50.60\00:17:52.50 - Well, we have had, for a long time, a housing 00:17:52.60\00:17:56.20 need on our campus. - Mhm. - We've had less housing 00:17:56.30\00:18:00.08 than we have- we have more need than we have 00:18:00.18\00:18:04.15 houses. And so, in addition to that, we've had some of 00:18:04.25\00:18:07.65 our staff have been living in mobile homes. 00:18:07.78\00:18:10.65 Now, mobile homes are a good solution maybe 00:18:10.75\00:18:13.62 temporarily. - Right. - But a long-term solution 00:18:13.69\00:18:16.02 is... They don't really work that well for that. 00:18:16.16\00:18:19.26 So, we are in a process right now of building 00:18:19.36\00:18:22.90 some new staff homes. - Wow. - That will replace 00:18:23.00\00:18:26.47 our mobile homes and give us additional housing 00:18:26.57\00:18:28.70 so that our staff have a respectable place to 00:18:28.80\00:18:32.47 live. - They should! They should. They work 00:18:32.57\00:18:34.04 for it. - These are not extravagant homes; 00:18:34.18\00:18:38.15 they're about 1400 sq ft, 3 bedroom, 2 bath, a 00:18:38.25\00:18:40.92 little garage...but they're very nice. And the students 00:18:41.02\00:18:44.89 are learning so many things helping to build them. - So 00:18:44.99\00:18:48.26 the students are part of the actual building of the 00:18:48.36\00:18:51.19 homes as well! - Yes! - This is really good! 00:18:51.29\00:18:54.53 I'm loving the idea of the application of the 00:18:54.63\00:18:58.73 education, because so often... You know, you're 00:18:58.83\00:19:02.14 in school, and you're learning the academic 00:19:02.24\00:19:04.14 part, as you had said before, and then you 00:19:04.24\00:19:07.18 get out, and then you have to get the experience. 00:19:07.28\00:19:09.68 But the students are getting experience as 00:19:09.78\00:19:13.31 they learn the academics! And so, that is such a 00:19:13.42\00:19:17.49 great marriage to me. I think that it's really 00:19:17.62\00:19:20.16 important. And it's also important, I think, 00:19:20.26\00:19:22.59 for character development, because they're learning... 00:19:22.69\00:19:27.06 I interviewed someone on Dare to Dream once, 00:19:29.03\00:19:31.80 an author, and he wrote a book called How Children 00:19:31.90\00:19:35.30 Succeed. And basically, it was saying that it's 00:19:35.40\00:19:38.91 not just about academics; it's about character 00:19:39.01\00:19:41.54 development, perseverance, and determination, and 00:19:41.64\00:19:44.41 all of these things. And so, that's how they 00:19:44.51\00:19:47.55 succeed. So, you are helping students to be 00:19:47.65\00:19:51.29 successful in life, because not only are 00:19:51.35\00:19:54.12 they having the academic piece, but they're also 00:19:54.22\00:19:56.42 having the character development piece, and 00:19:56.52\00:19:58.63 that is so important. - Yeah. And for me 00:19:58.73\00:20:02.06 as an employer, someone comes to me and they 00:20:02.16\00:20:05.33 want to work in, say, the studio, and they 00:20:05.47\00:20:08.50 say, "Well, I studied some in school a little 00:20:08.60\00:20:10.61 bit," or, "I've gone on the internet and 00:20:10.67\00:20:12.17 I've looked at how to run a camera," but if 00:20:12.27\00:20:14.48 I say, somebody comes and says, "Hey, I was 00:20:14.54\00:20:16.54 taught, and I've already got experience, so"... 00:20:16.61\00:20:18.31 Here are your students. Some of those can come 00:20:18.41\00:20:20.65 away and say, "I've already done this. I've 00:20:20.75\00:20:22.58 done some building, I've done some electrical, 00:20:22.68\00:20:24.35 I've done plumbing, I've done framing, I've done 00:20:24.45\00:20:26.39 gardening, I've done"... You've actually- now, 00:20:26.49\00:20:29.42 you've got somebody. Say, "Okay, now we 00:20:29.56\00:20:31.33 don't just have the textbook; now we got the whole 00:20:31.43\00:20:34.10 complete package." - That's right. - I mean, that's 00:20:34.20\00:20:36.87 a great advantage. - Really great advantage. 00:20:36.93\00:20:39.40 - If you know...or you wouldn't be doing it. 00:20:39.50\00:20:41.30 - I got my education at Harbert Hills Academy, 00:20:41.40\00:20:44.34 and I've learned a lot of things in my life. I 00:20:44.44\00:20:46.47 went to school after Harbert Hills Academy. 00:20:46.54\00:20:48.31 I attended Southwestern Adventist College and then 00:20:48.38\00:20:51.25 Walla Walla College, and went away with a degree 00:20:51.35\00:20:53.75 in engineering; worked in that field for about 00:20:53.85\00:20:56.18 10 years. But when I came back to Harbert 00:20:56.28\00:20:59.25 Hills, I recognized something. I said, 00:20:59.32\00:21:02.22 "Do you know what? Most of the stuff I 00:21:02.32\00:21:03.86 use every day is what I learned right here." 00:21:03.93\00:21:06.29 - Okay! - And so, the fact that I can build a house 00:21:06.39\00:21:10.50 and I can do wiring and I can do plumbing, and 00:21:10.57\00:21:12.17 I can do those kinds of things. Those are 00:21:12.27\00:21:14.54 things I learned there. I didn't learn that in 00:21:14.67\00:21:16.07 college. - And that's... - I learned that with 00:21:16.20\00:21:18.77 the practical part of the program right there. 00:21:18.84\00:21:20.94 - Wonderful. I wanted to talk about how you 00:21:21.04\00:21:24.71 got into media. I mean, you seem to be getting 00:21:24.81\00:21:27.58 into all... You know, Jesus said, "Go ye 00:21:27.65\00:21:30.69 into all the world," so you're training 00:21:30.79\00:21:32.12 the students. But back some... How long ago 00:21:32.15\00:21:34.42 was it before y'all said, "We want to get into 00:21:34.56\00:21:38.06 media," whether it's radio, television, print, 00:21:38.16\00:21:40.23 or page, "but we should be there." Tell us how 00:21:40.33\00:21:43.70 that started. - Well, it's an interesting 00:21:43.80\00:21:45.17 journey, because we didn't really say that. 00:21:45.23\00:21:47.90 - Oh, okay. [laughter] - Here's what happened: 00:21:48.00\00:21:50.47 we had a staff member. His name was Albert 00:21:50.57\00:21:52.91 Nielsen-fine man. He had worked there at 00:21:53.01\00:21:55.41 the school for years, and he came to the 00:21:55.51\00:21:57.45 board of directors one day and he said, "I'd 00:21:57.58\00:22:01.12 like to start a radio station. Would you 00:22:01.25\00:22:03.85 be willing to allow me to do that?" And the 00:22:03.95\00:22:06.62 board looked at him and said, "You must be from 00:22:06.76\00:22:09.56 another planet." [laughter] "You know that we have 00:22:09.66\00:22:12.13 a hard time buying the groceries to feed 00:22:12.19\00:22:15.06 these students and paying the bills... 00:22:15.16\00:22:17.47 Radio station? How would we ever do that?" And 00:22:18.80\00:22:21.50 he just said, "Well, let me ask a question. 00:22:21.60\00:22:25.71 If I could find the money, would you let me start 00:22:25.81\00:22:29.21 it and shelter it here at this school? Because I 00:22:29.31\00:22:31.91 need a corporation to shelter it." And they 00:22:32.01\00:22:34.28 said, "Okay. Brother Nielsen, it's fine. If 00:22:34.42\00:22:37.92 you can get some money together, we'll let you 00:22:38.02\00:22:39.69 start the radio station." What they didn't know 00:22:39.79\00:22:42.39 is that his mother was going to leave him some 00:22:42.52\00:22:44.39 inheritance money. - Oh... - And he had a passion 00:22:44.49\00:22:47.93 to see this happen, but we didn't understand. 00:22:48.06\00:22:50.83 I say "we"; the board didn't understand what 00:22:50.97\00:22:52.57 he was doing, but I believe he was under 00:22:52.67\00:22:55.20 the influence of the Holy Spirit, and the Holy 00:22:55.30\00:22:58.27 Spirit had prompted him to do this thing. He 00:22:58.37\00:23:00.58 had the ability to take nothing and make 00:23:00.68\00:23:06.88 something. You know? Some people have that. 00:23:06.95\00:23:08.52 - Sure. - He could take baling wire and masking 00:23:08.62\00:23:10.22 tape and make a transmitter, okay? [laughter] That's 00:23:10.35\00:23:13.29 the kind of ability he had. And because of 00:23:13.36\00:23:17.93 that ability, he was actually able to pass 00:23:18.06\00:23:20.50 his Class I FCC license test, and he began 00:23:20.60\00:23:25.23 to assemble the needed parts and put together a 00:23:25.33\00:23:27.77 radio station. Well, we didn't have a 00:23:27.87\00:23:29.34 tower. He said, "I've gotta have a tower. 00:23:29.40\00:23:30.87 What am I gonna do?" So, a local guy came 00:23:30.94\00:23:33.51 by and he said, "Listen, I'd like to just donate 00:23:33.61\00:23:37.75 my car to you guys." And so, he donated this 00:23:37.85\00:23:41.38 old Cadillac to the school. And Mr. Nielsen saw it, 00:23:41.48\00:23:44.35 but he didn't see a Cadillac. - Uh-oh. - He saw a tower. 00:23:44.45\00:23:47.46 - Come on now. [laughter] - And he said, "Would 00:23:47.52\00:23:50.53 you be willing to let me have this car for 00:23:50.63\00:23:52.99 the radio station work here?" And he saw an 00:23:53.09\00:23:56.77 ad in the paper somewhere up here in Illinois somewhere. 00:23:56.87\00:23:58.97 Someone had a tower they wanted to sell, 00:23:59.07\00:24:03.14 and he called them up. He said, "How 00:24:03.24\00:24:04.97 about this: I'm starting a little radio station, and 00:24:05.07\00:24:07.21 I've got a Cadillac I'd like to trade you for 00:24:07.28\00:24:08.74 your tower." And they said, "Done." - Okay! 00:24:08.81\00:24:12.65 - So, we drove that old Cadillac up here to Illinois 00:24:12.78\00:24:15.38 and parked it in this guy's parking lot and 00:24:15.45\00:24:18.29 hoped that we never had to see it again. - Yeah. 00:24:18.42\00:24:21.56 - And he sent us out to this field where 00:24:21.66\00:24:23.36 there was this tower that had been dropped on the 00:24:23.46\00:24:25.13 ground. - Mm, mm... - And you know what 00:24:25.19\00:24:26.53 happens when you drop a tower. - Mhm. - It bends 00:24:26.63\00:24:28.36 up some of the parts. - Yeah, absolutely. - We 00:24:28.46\00:24:30.47 took it apart and loaded it in a U-Haul truck and 00:24:30.53\00:24:32.40 hauled it home and built a tower with that, and 00:24:32.47\00:24:35.97 that's how it got started. He had a passion to see 00:24:36.07\00:24:38.37 this happen, and he wouldn't let anything 00:24:38.47\00:24:40.41 stand in his way. A lack of equipment was nothing 00:24:40.51\00:24:43.35 to him. - Right. - Because he'd just pray his way 00:24:43.45\00:24:45.21 through it and ask the Lord to help him know what 00:24:45.28\00:24:46.95 to do, and if it was a Cadillac for a tower 00:24:47.05\00:24:48.65 or whatever it was... But he ultimately got 00:24:48.75\00:24:52.05 a license for a 100,000-watt station. - Wow, that's 00:24:52.15\00:24:55.72 great. - Now, in the late '60s, early '70s, 00:24:55.82\00:24:57.16 that was okay; you could do that, because radio 00:24:57.26\00:25:00.26 wasn't the same thing it is today. - Right. 00:25:00.36\00:25:02.33 - But you could never get that license today. 00:25:02.43\00:25:04.23 - Mhm. - Because the frequencies are all 00:25:04.33\00:25:06.33 taken up. - Oh, yeah. Yeah. So, you built 00:25:06.43\00:25:10.64 a radio station... And what'd you do 00:25:10.74\00:25:13.11 for programming? What year was this when you 00:25:13.17\00:25:15.08 first went on the air? - So actually, in the 00:25:15.14\00:25:17.01 early '70s, I worked at that radio station as 00:25:17.11\00:25:19.61 a student at Harbert Hills Academy. I was 00:25:19.71\00:25:22.02 over there- and we had turntables. You 00:25:22.08\00:25:23.42 know the old, big turntables, and you'd put the record 00:25:23.45\00:25:25.42 on it and you'd cue it up, and then you'd 00:25:25.49\00:25:28.36 would switch it on at the right time and the 00:25:28.46\00:25:30.29 music would play. That's what we did! - Yeah. 00:25:30.39\00:25:32.13 - And so, I'd work shifts there at the 00:25:32.23\00:25:33.56 radio station, never knowing that I'd be involved 00:25:33.60\00:25:35.73 in anything greater than that... So, we got 00:25:35.83\00:25:41.74 our programming from wherever we could get 00:25:41.84\00:25:44.64 it, and Mr. Nielsen had a very interesting personality. 00:25:44.74\00:25:49.54 He liked to study history; studied a lot of things, 00:25:49.64\00:25:51.25 and so he'd bring all these interesting programs 00:25:51.38\00:25:53.45 in, and we'd play them. So, it was kind of a 00:25:53.55\00:25:55.65 little bit...maybe the word's eclectic or 00:25:55.75\00:25:58.15 something. It was just like, it didn't really have 00:25:58.22\00:26:00.72 a theme, maybe, but it was a lot of stuff, and 00:26:00.82\00:26:02.79 it was educational radio, and we learned 00:26:02.92\00:26:04.73 a lot of things there. - Mhm! - And so, that 00:26:04.86\00:26:07.20 was the programming stream. Now, I came 00:26:07.26\00:26:09.53 back to Harbert Hills in 1991. And when 00:26:09.63\00:26:12.50 I came back, the radio station was kind of a 00:26:12.57\00:26:14.90 low point. When I say it was a low 00:26:15.00\00:26:16.77 point, due to lack of funds, you know 00:26:16.87\00:26:19.54 how it is, you do what you have to do with 00:26:19.64\00:26:21.61 what you have. - Sure. - And so, he was doing 00:26:21.68\00:26:23.38 that, and the transmitter was old and decrepit, 00:26:23.45\00:26:26.31 we would say, and on its last leg a few times 00:26:26.41\00:26:29.18 ago before. And he would just say, "Well, 00:26:29.28\00:26:33.19 we'll keep it going one more time." - Mhm. 00:26:33.25\00:26:35.06 - And I looked at that situation and I said, 00:26:35.12\00:26:36.89 "I don't know what there is to do for this. 00:26:37.03\00:26:39.16 It doesn't look hopeful to me." So, we kind of 00:26:39.26\00:26:42.70 went through a process there for a few years, 00:26:42.76\00:26:44.40 and in 1995 or '6, I had a guy call me 00:26:44.47\00:26:50.41 on the phone. He said, "I'd like to buy your 00:26:50.51\00:26:55.31 radio station. What do you take for it?" 00:26:55.41\00:26:57.85 And I went, wow-this guy might be serious! 00:26:57.95\00:27:01.45 I kind of smiled internally. This might be a great 00:27:01.55\00:27:04.75 opportunity to really get rid of this thing. 00:27:04.85\00:27:06.45 So I said, "Well, I don't know, but 00:27:06.59\00:27:08.56 I'll think about it." Hung up the phone... 00:27:08.69\00:27:11.69 ...and then I went to ASI. - Mhm. - And you 00:27:11.79\00:27:15.33 know what an inspiration ASI can be... At ASI, 00:27:15.43\00:27:18.87 I met Paul Moore, and he was involved in radio, 00:27:18.93\00:27:24.34 and I told him about the situation. He looked at 00:27:24.44\00:27:28.04 me and he said, "Whatever you do, please don't sell 00:27:28.14\00:27:32.01 that station." - Right. - He said, "You don't 00:27:32.11\00:27:34.65 understand what you've got. It may be on a 00:27:34.75\00:27:38.05 low down right now, but you have a real 00:27:38.15\00:27:40.86 opportunity to witness to your community through 00:27:40.96\00:27:42.59 this." He said, "Please don't sell it." I said, 00:27:42.66\00:27:45.39 "Well, what can we do?" He says, "Well, I'll help 00:27:45.46\00:27:47.43 you if I can. You just tell me what"... You 00:27:47.50\00:27:49.56 know. I said, "I don't know what to do!" 00:27:49.66\00:27:51.20 Well, I went back home, and we began to pray. 00:27:51.27\00:27:53.80 I said, "Lord"- because what had happened in the 00:27:53.87\00:27:56.20 meantime is the FCC had told us, "You have to go 00:27:56.30\00:27:58.61 down in power." [laughter] What they didn't know 00:27:58.71\00:28:01.64 is we were not at full power. We were broadcasting 00:28:01.74\00:28:04.58 off an old, decrepit transmitter just barely 00:28:04.65\00:28:07.38 getting out. But because of the license said 100,000 00:28:07.48\00:28:11.32 watts, he said, "You have to go down." 00:28:11.39\00:28:12.72 So, he had put an application- Mr. Nielsen put an application 00:28:12.75\00:28:15.12 to go down in power. And so I got home and I said, 00:28:15.19\00:28:18.43 "Are we going to let this thing go down in power? 00:28:18.53\00:28:20.43 What are we gonna do?" And I'm just praying and 00:28:20.50\00:28:21.90 praying and praying... I got up in the morning. 00:28:21.96\00:28:25.40 I was reading in Psalms 81 and it says this-verse 10: 00:28:25.50\00:28:29.80 "I am the Lord your God who brought you out 00:28:29.90\00:28:33.74 of the land of Egypt. Open your mouth wide and I will 00:28:33.84\00:28:37.41 fill it." - All right! - I went to the office, I 00:28:37.48\00:28:40.28 sat down with the group, and I said, "We're going 00:28:40.38\00:28:43.25 to have a 100,000-watt radio station." They said, 00:28:43.35\00:28:46.05 "What do you mean?" I said, "Well, I read this 00:28:46.15\00:28:48.29 verse of scripture. Do you believe the Bible?" 00:28:48.39\00:28:50.29 [laughter] "Well, yes, we believe the Bible!" I said, 00:28:50.39\00:28:53.60 "Well, good! Then let's do this!" And so, we began 00:28:53.70\00:28:56.50 the process, the Lord sent the funds, and in 00:28:56.60\00:28:58.60 a matter of a few months, 6-8 months, we were up 00:28:58.73\00:29:01.30 at 100,000 watts, and we were broadcasting now 00:29:01.40\00:29:05.11 to places that we'd never been before. - Sure. - And 00:29:05.21\00:29:08.21 we had taken on a consistent programming stream. And so 00:29:08.31\00:29:12.38 it was a real blessing, and we began to see 00:29:12.48\00:29:14.88 the impact of a radio station in a local community! 00:29:14.98\00:29:18.75 It was just amazing to see what God was doing- 00:29:18.85\00:29:21.46 to see Him supply the need, and then to see Him begin 00:29:23.29\00:29:26.09 to use this resource in the community to 00:29:26.19\00:29:29.56 impact the community. - Amen. - Well, that's 00:29:29.70\00:29:32.23 incredible. - So are the students actually the... 00:29:32.33\00:29:35.24 I don't want to say disc jockeys; that's so 00:29:37.01\00:29:38.94 dated. [laughter] But are they the... Thank 00:29:39.04\00:29:42.14 you. Are they the announcers and all that in there? - So, 00:29:42.21\00:29:45.65 we teach a class called Radio Broadcasting. And 00:29:45.75\00:29:48.48 in that class, they learn how to use their voice... 00:29:48.58\00:29:52.82 There's kind of a process to that. You know, on TV, 00:29:52.92\00:29:56.02 you got a face, and you can express yourself through 00:29:56.16\00:29:59.33 facial expressions and that kind of thing. But 00:29:59.43\00:30:01.80 in radio, you're just there. - Right. - And 00:30:01.90\00:30:04.63 you've got to use your voice to express yourself. 00:30:04.70\00:30:07.77 And so, we teach them that, and we teach them 00:30:07.84\00:30:10.21 how to run the automation systems and all the stuff 00:30:10.27\00:30:12.81 associated with running a little studio for the 00:30:12.87\00:30:16.44 radio station. They get some experience there. 00:30:16.54\00:30:19.48 They go over on Friday afternoons, and they 00:30:19.58\00:30:21.48 run live there for some hours and select the music 00:30:21.58\00:30:24.92 and do the announcing. And so, they're a part 00:30:24.99\00:30:27.56 of this and learning how to do this. You know, a 00:30:27.66\00:30:31.53 lot of little churches have Low Power FMs 00:30:31.63\00:30:33.73 now. - Yeah. Yeah, absolutely. - A lot of 00:30:33.83\00:30:36.10 times, they don't have anybody that knows 00:30:36.20\00:30:37.57 anything. They start one; they say, "We'd like to 00:30:37.63\00:30:39.60 have one," but they don't know. And so, to be able 00:30:39.70\00:30:42.10 to send some students out that have that training... 00:30:42.24\00:30:45.84 - No, that's incredible. Like 3ABN, I talked 00:30:45.91\00:30:47.44 to Angela Lomacang recently. We have nearly a network 00:30:47.54\00:30:50.61 of almost 400 radio stations around the world. A lot 00:30:50.68\00:30:54.38 of those are those Low Power, but we need 00:30:54.48\00:30:56.79 people to know how to operate those and to 00:30:56.89\00:30:59.59 run those. Now, you talked about the radio 00:30:59.69\00:31:02.52 not being seen. When we first started 3ABN, I told 00:31:02.62\00:31:05.93 some of my friends that we were building a television 00:31:05.99\00:31:08.63 station, and they said, "No, you should build a 00:31:08.73\00:31:11.10 radio." And I said, "Why?" And they said, "'Cause 00:31:11.20\00:31:13.57 you have a face for radio, not television." - No... 00:31:13.64\00:31:16.50 [laughter] - I said they're friends; I guess 00:31:16.60\00:31:19.87 they were. Maybe I'm too dumb to figure that 00:31:19.94\00:31:22.31 one out. But they said, "You've really got a radio 00:31:22.41\00:31:24.78 look about you." - No... Not true. - A hidden 00:31:24.88\00:31:28.82 look. So, doing this, if... I'm gonna guess. 00:31:28.88\00:31:33.86 Now, I'm not a prophet or a son of a prophet. 00:31:33.96\00:31:35.92 I'm gonna say, once you get in the Lord's work 00:31:36.02\00:31:38.36 and once you really get going and you get this 00:31:38.39\00:31:41.43 100-watt station, everything to this day has just been 00:31:41.50\00:31:44.80 a barrel of fun, a bed of roses, they say, and 00:31:44.87\00:31:47.40 all of this stuff... Probably, this never had a... The radio 00:31:47.47\00:31:50.74 station's never had a problem. Is that right, 00:31:50.81\00:31:52.54 or am I wrong a little bit? - Well, I want to 00:31:52.64\00:31:55.08 tell you the first problem we had. - Okay. - And that 00:31:55.14\00:31:57.31 was when we just bought a used transmitter 00:31:57.45\00:32:00.28 out of Texas. - Mhm. - And we brought it in. We're 00:32:00.38\00:32:02.95 going to put it on the air. We're not even on the air 00:32:03.02\00:32:04.99 yet with the 100,000 watts, because we needed a new 00:32:05.09\00:32:08.16 transmitter. But new was used to us at that point! 00:32:08.22\00:32:10.76 - Sure. - So we bought this transmitter, and 00:32:10.86\00:32:12.46 we brought it there. We tried everything. I had 00:32:12.56\00:32:16.03 two engineers there that knew more about this thing 00:32:16.13\00:32:18.97 than you and I could know in a lifetime. They took it 00:32:19.07\00:32:21.77 all apart and laid it out on a table and put 00:32:21.87\00:32:23.67 it back together and plugged it in...it wouldn't 00:32:23.77\00:32:25.31 work. We took it apart again, laid it out on the 00:32:25.37\00:32:27.14 table, and put it back together...it wouldn't 00:32:27.24\00:32:28.78 work. And I'm going like, "What's the deal here? 00:32:28.84\00:32:32.31 I mean, are we even gonna have a radio station? We 00:32:32.38\00:32:35.25 spent all this money now to upgrade, but are we 00:32:35.35\00:32:37.65 even going to have one?" And the third time, we 00:32:37.79\00:32:40.39 took it apart, put it back together...it still wouldn't 00:32:40.49\00:32:42.62 work. - Mm. - So, by that time, I was kind of wondering. 00:32:42.69\00:32:45.53 But one of the engineers says, "Ah, I think we ought 00:32:47.33\00:32:49.90 to change the length of this cable." And I said, 00:32:49.96\00:32:52.37 "What is the length of a cable have to do with 00:32:52.47\00:32:53.97 anything?" They said, "Well, you never know 00:32:54.07\00:32:55.40 in radio, different things impact..." 00:32:55.44\00:32:57.27 - Sure. - He changed the length of the cable, 00:32:57.37\00:32:58.87 plugged it in, it worked. - Okay! - Wow. - Well, 00:32:58.97\00:33:01.64 all of that to say, God was training me, and 00:33:01.74\00:33:05.51 I didn't know it. - Okay. - Because our founder, 00:33:05.68\00:33:10.62 Albert Nielsen at that point... We didn't know 00:33:10.72\00:33:13.02 it, but he had bladder cancer...and a few months 00:33:13.12\00:33:15.59 later, he was dead. I was left with a radio 00:33:15.72\00:33:20.23 station that I didn't know anything about. But I 00:33:20.33\00:33:24.10 did know something, because I had been trained. We 00:33:24.23\00:33:26.30 teared the transmitter apart a couple of times. - Yeah, 00:33:26.40\00:33:28.34 okay. - So, I felt comfortable working on it and at least 00:33:28.47\00:33:32.14 knowing I could open the door and close it. 00:33:32.24\00:33:33.84 - Sure. Yeah. - And so, that is one of the challenges 00:33:33.98\00:33:38.81 we had in the beginning... But God was working 00:33:38.91\00:33:40.98 even through these difficulties, we're still working, providing 00:33:41.08\00:33:44.49 the training, providing us with what we needed. 00:33:44.59\00:33:47.86 It's been a journey of faith, honestly, because 00:33:47.96\00:33:50.93 you know how it is in broadcasting work. At 00:33:52.43\00:33:54.56 least for us, we're a listener-supported station. 00:33:54.70\00:33:58.03 We don't have the funds to just pay all the bills, 00:33:58.13\00:34:00.54 but we invite our listeners to help us! 00:34:00.64\00:34:02.24 - Right. - And that's been a journey of faith, really, 00:34:02.34\00:34:04.47 because when you've got a transmitter of the size 00:34:04.54\00:34:08.51 we've had to have on the air, it eats a lot of 00:34:08.61\00:34:10.85 electricity. The bills are expensive, but God has 00:34:10.95\00:34:14.85 been faithful in providing. He's helped me to know 00:34:14.95\00:34:18.99 how to do things I could never do. - Mhm. - You 00:34:19.09\00:34:21.22 know, you open the equipment, maybe you're 00:34:21.32\00:34:22.66 looking, "I have no idea what's wrong with this 00:34:22.69\00:34:24.03 thing!" - Sure. - And you get an impression, "Well, 00:34:24.06\00:34:25.73 look here, look there, check this, check that," 00:34:25.83\00:34:27.16 and pretty soon, it's working again. And you're going, 00:34:27.20\00:34:29.73 "Praise the Lord! I don't know how to fix this thing, 00:34:29.86\00:34:31.33 but it's fixed!" - I want to go a little bit now... 00:34:31.47\00:34:35.10 I'm gonna bring us to the recent past. The 00:34:35.20\00:34:38.91 radio station-everything's going well. But all of a 00:34:39.04\00:34:43.18 sudden, you get a-and you'll explain this to the 00:34:43.28\00:34:46.25 viewers-you got a hit. Lightning hit on your 00:34:46.35\00:34:49.45 station. I think you even have a few pictures and 00:34:49.58\00:34:52.19 in a little bit they'll show you, but tell us 00:34:52.32\00:34:54.26 what in the world happened to this radio station and 00:34:54.36\00:34:57.29 how much damage did occur? - So, I was in the country 00:34:57.39\00:35:03.10 of Colombia. And some of my other duties, 00:35:03.16\00:35:05.73 with ASI and, actually, with OCI, and I was 00:35:05.83\00:35:09.57 down there doing some meetings for OCI and 00:35:09.67\00:35:11.97 doing some training down there for-leadership 00:35:12.07\00:35:13.68 training-for the ministries. And it's the night before I'm 00:35:13.78\00:35:17.81 to come home, and it's like 11 o'clock at night 00:35:17.91\00:35:19.95 where I'm at, and I'm getting these text 00:35:20.05\00:35:22.65 messages. "We got problems. We're having 00:35:22.75\00:35:24.89 a huge lightning storm on campus." My wife 00:35:24.99\00:35:26.92 texted me and she said, "I think the windows are 00:35:27.02\00:35:29.19 going to blow out or something. This is a terrible storm." 00:35:29.32\00:35:31.63 I went, "Oh, my!" And so, pretty soon someone's 00:35:31.73\00:35:35.06 putting on the text message, "I smell smoke." 00:35:35.16\00:35:37.37 And I said, "Somebody smells smoke? That's bad! 00:35:37.47\00:35:40.10 Something's burning!" And so pretty soon, 00:35:40.24\00:35:44.17 somebody else said, "I smell smoke!" I said, 00:35:44.27\00:35:46.24 "Will somebody get in their car and go see what's 00:35:46.34\00:35:48.18 burning?!" [laughter] Because something's 00:35:48.28\00:35:50.55 burning if everybody's smelling smoke. You know 00:35:50.65\00:35:52.41 the old adage: "Where there's smoke, there 00:35:52.51\00:35:53.85 might be some fire"? But they couldn't see 00:35:53.88\00:35:56.25 anything, because the transmitter building's 00:35:56.35\00:35:57.69 about 2,000 ft from campus. But pretty soon, 00:35:57.72\00:36:00.19 somebody got that far out, and they saw this 00:36:00.29\00:36:02.29 glow, and they called the fire department. 00:36:02.42\00:36:04.59 And when I heard that, I said, "Oh, my. We got 00:36:04.69\00:36:06.29 bigger problems." I said, "If they go in there, 00:36:06.43\00:36:07.86 start squirting water on this, there's a 10,000-volt 00:36:07.96\00:36:10.37 transformer in there, and it's going to be 00:36:10.50\00:36:13.44 problems." And so, they showed up. I tried to send 00:36:13.54\00:36:16.94 text messages through, "Please, be careful." I 00:36:17.04\00:36:19.07 didn't want anybody to get hurt! I said, "The 00:36:19.24\00:36:21.24 equipment is one thing, but getting somebody 00:36:21.38\00:36:22.71 hurt is another problem." And so they went out, 00:36:22.74\00:36:24.85 and they put the fire out. I came home the 00:36:24.95\00:36:28.48 next day. My flight was scheduled early 00:36:28.62\00:36:30.29 that next morning; I came home. I went straight out 00:36:30.39\00:36:32.79 to the transmitter building, and I just stood there and 00:36:32.89\00:36:34.96 looked at it. You know how things kind of affect 00:36:35.02\00:36:37.33 you? - Ooh... Look at that. It's like that, we 00:36:37.39\00:36:40.80 have in Johnston City, that little transmitter 00:36:40.90\00:36:42.40 shack (that's what they call that). - You look 00:36:42.50\00:36:44.30 inside then, and you look at the equipment that 00:36:44.40\00:36:46.84 was getting out the good news, and you go in your 00:36:46.94\00:36:51.21 mind, you begin to say, "Lord, what is happening 00:36:51.34\00:36:54.74 here? Why could this be happening to us now?" 00:36:54.84\00:36:58.58 - I mean, that's total destruction. It looks 00:36:59.65\00:37:01.38 like you bombed it. - Yeah. It was just ashes and 00:37:01.48\00:37:04.39 some melted equipment was all that was left. 00:37:04.52\00:37:07.22 - Mm, mm, mm. - And as much as I have this 00:37:07.32\00:37:10.86 inward desire to say, "Okay, everything's 00:37:10.93\00:37:13.46 fine," when you're in a crisis like that, your 00:37:13.56\00:37:16.30 mind is just going. So, my mind went this way; 00:37:16.40\00:37:19.87 my mind said, "All right." I'm an action kind of person. 00:37:19.97\00:37:24.67 "Let me go on the internet. I'm gonna search. I'll 00:37:24.77\00:37:28.98 find a used transmitter." And I did! I found one 00:37:29.08\00:37:30.98 very similar to the one we had. I said, "Ooh- 00:37:31.08\00:37:33.21 that's in Oregon. I can send somebody to Oregon, 00:37:33.31\00:37:35.42 we can buy that transmitter, we can rebuild this thing, 00:37:35.48\00:37:37.72 we'll be back on the air before too long, and we 00:37:37.85\00:37:39.92 can get out there again." And then I stopped, and 00:37:40.02\00:37:44.73 I began to ask myself this question: "Is that 00:37:44.83\00:37:48.23 really what God would want?" x2 The devil's 00:37:48.33\00:37:52.80 got a blow in here, right? He's put a blow in, he's 00:37:52.90\00:37:55.94 brought this thing down... God could've protected 00:37:56.04\00:37:59.34 it, but He chose not to... There must be some purpose 00:37:59.44\00:38:02.88 here. I said, "You know what? I'm going back to 00:38:02.98\00:38:08.28 my Bible." And that verse in Psalms 81, "Open your 00:38:08.38\00:38:13.32 mouth wide, and I will fill it." And I said, "You 00:38:13.42\00:38:16.56 know, we're not going to rebuild with any 00:38:16.66\00:38:18.03 used equipment." - Okay! - I said, "That's not... 00:38:18.13\00:38:20.60 I don't believe that would be pleasing to the Lord." 00:38:20.70\00:38:23.00 - Mhm. - I said, "We could for a few...maybe 00:38:23.06\00:38:25.63 $20-30,000, I go out and buy some used stuff, and 00:38:25.73\00:38:28.14 we get back on the air, but I don't believe that 00:38:28.20\00:38:29.90 would be pleasing to the Lord." I said, "We're 00:38:30.01\00:38:32.51 going to go"... I said, "I know that it's going to be 00:38:32.61\00:38:34.34 expensive, but we're going to buy new equipment, 00:38:34.44\00:38:37.28 and this digital age now will allow us to do more 00:38:37.38\00:38:41.65 than we have ever done before. For God's glory, 00:38:41.72\00:38:46.19 let's rebuild this thing and really put it on the 00:38:46.32\00:38:48.26 map." - Absolutely, and that's what I wanted 00:38:48.36\00:38:50.33 our viewers to know the reason you were not 00:38:50.43\00:38:52.59 above buying used, but buying used is buying 00:38:52.69\00:38:56.56 old technology. - Yeah. - So, you're thinking ahead, 00:38:56.67\00:39:00.40 which is a very smart and wise and prudent 00:39:00.50\00:39:02.54 thing to do is to say, "We're going to go with 00:39:02.64\00:39:04.74 new technology." Tell us what you can do with 00:39:04.84\00:39:07.41 digital technology. - So, the digital world today 00:39:07.48\00:39:10.21 allows you to have a transmitter that occupies 00:39:10.28\00:39:13.78 the same bandwidth. In other words, it doesn't 00:39:13.88\00:39:15.75 step on other people's radio station, but you 00:39:15.85\00:39:18.92 can put three or four channels where there 00:39:19.02\00:39:21.02 was only one. So, digital radio's kind of... It's been 00:39:21.16\00:39:25.06 around for a while, but it's the best technology 00:39:25.16\00:39:29.13 there is today. - And we just happen to know 00:39:29.23\00:39:31.43 where he can get some extra channels-radio 00:39:31.50\00:39:33.94 channels. - Yes! - And I said to myself, "I know 00:39:34.04\00:39:37.21 3ABN has a radio channel, and I know 3ABN has a 00:39:37.27\00:39:41.01 Spanish channel," and I've had this burden for a long 00:39:41.11\00:39:43.61 time to see a Spanish broadcast in our area... 00:39:43.71\00:39:46.05 but I didn't know how to do it. But the devil opened 00:39:46.15\00:39:50.95 that door for me! - He sure did. - I believe the 00:39:51.02\00:39:52.92 devil didn't know it. - Nuh-uh. - But I believe 00:39:53.05\00:39:55.49 He wanted the gospel to go in a more powerful 00:39:55.59\00:39:57.19 way. - Absolutely! - And so right now, we are 00:39:57.33\00:40:01.50 selecting equipment and building the station back, 00:40:01.60\00:40:04.80 and God has just blessed abundantly and opened 00:40:04.90\00:40:07.94 the windows of heaven, and we can build back 00:40:08.00\00:40:11.54 with brand-new new technology, digital 00:40:11.61\00:40:14.71 technology, that will allow us to do a better 00:40:14.74\00:40:17.58 job of bringing honor to God. - Amen. - What 00:40:17.65\00:40:22.05 do you think? - I think it's amazing. I think, 00:40:22.08\00:40:24.19 you know, it's so... God allows certain things 00:40:24.22\00:40:27.46 to happen to draw us closer to Him and also 00:40:27.49\00:40:31.73 to enhance our circumstances in some way, and that's 00:40:31.79\00:40:36.60 what He's done. He's opened up your mind 00:40:36.67\00:40:39.43 to say, "Well, let's not use used equipment; 00:40:39.50\00:40:42.80 let's get something new." And as you said, Danny, 00:40:42.87\00:40:45.47 and it's so important to stay abreast of the 00:40:45.57\00:40:48.01 technology, because it's always changing and you 00:40:48.04\00:40:50.98 could get something that's obsolete. You're paying 00:40:51.05\00:40:53.48 less, but it's obsolete. Get something that has to do 00:40:53.52\00:40:57.29 with what's going on now, and then you can stay 00:40:57.35\00:40:59.62 up with it. So, I think that's beautiful. - I was 00:40:59.69\00:41:03.83 thinking about this and I said, "You know, that's 00:41:03.89\00:41:06.36 a lot of money. It's gonna be like a quarter 00:41:06.39\00:41:08.43 million dollars just for the basic stuff we need." 00:41:08.46\00:41:11.17 That's a lot of money. But I said, "You know 00:41:11.23\00:41:13.13 what? If there's one soul that would be reached 00:41:13.20\00:41:18.01 because of this, it's worth the investment." 00:41:18.07\00:41:21.71 - There'll be many more than that. - That's right. 00:41:21.74\00:41:23.11 - Yeah! And likely to be many more than that. 00:41:23.18\00:41:25.71 But if it was just one, and someday we look 00:41:25.81\00:41:29.12 back and say, "We invested a quarter million dollars to 00:41:29.18\00:41:31.05 save a soul," praise God because Jesus invested 00:41:31.12\00:41:33.52 His life. He didn't hold anything back. He said 00:41:33.56\00:41:37.23 the whole treasury of heaven was poured out 00:41:37.29\00:41:39.19 in Jesus, and He came here. He didn't hold 00:41:39.26\00:41:41.70 anything back. He said, "Well, I'm gonna save 00:41:41.76\00:41:43.26 some for later." He gave it all. - And for our 00:41:43.30\00:41:45.90 viewers at home, we of course- television is 00:41:45.97\00:41:50.21 our main focus, has been for years... At least, we 00:41:50.27\00:41:53.91 talk about it and you see us there, but as 00:41:53.98\00:41:55.68 we mentioned our radio stations are up to nearly 00:41:55.74\00:41:58.25 300 owned and affiliate, or 400 owned and affiliate 00:41:58.31\00:42:01.92 stations. But radio, if you go to our local 00:42:01.98\00:42:05.52 church, and we're here out in the country as you 00:42:05.59\00:42:07.59 saw, we have numerous people-I don't know- 00:42:07.66\00:42:10.26 12, 15... I would be guessing. I know there's 00:42:10.33\00:42:13.16 more than I can count at hand of people, Steve, 00:42:13.19\00:42:16.13 as you know, just have walked in the church and said, 00:42:16.20\00:42:19.67 "I'm here from listening to 3ABN Radio." Now, 00:42:19.73\00:42:24.11 we get it with television, but radio... There's many 00:42:25.07\00:42:26.41 people-walked in, baptized at our church (probably from 00:42:26.44\00:42:30.48 3ABN Radio as television in the area), so it's very 00:42:30.58\00:42:33.88 powerful. And so what you have there, people 00:42:33.98\00:42:36.58 are driving down the road, they can't watch 00:42:36.65\00:42:38.75 television when they're driving down the road, 00:42:38.82\00:42:40.69 you know, and you turn the radio on, and so we 00:42:40.76\00:42:44.09 have a full-power station here, too-95.9 in the 00:42:44.19\00:42:47.63 local area-and these people are listening 00:42:47.73\00:42:49.46 to 3ABN Radio. And they walk in, just like the ones 00:42:49.56\00:42:52.80 do and say, "We're ready to be baptized." - Amen! 00:42:52.87\00:42:55.64 - And just recently, Pastor John was telling 00:42:55.74\00:42:57.61 me another couple or two that came in. So 00:42:57.67\00:42:59.87 between television and radio, it's amazing. So 00:42:59.97\00:43:02.64 that's why we're excited to be able to work with 00:43:02.74\00:43:04.71 you and to... We know the results, you know 00:43:04.81\00:43:07.55 the results, and now you're going to be 00:43:07.62\00:43:09.12 able to do greater things for God than you were 00:43:09.22\00:43:11.52 able to do before, because the devil said, "Well, I'm 00:43:11.62\00:43:13.62 going to take them out." But he underestimated 00:43:13.72\00:43:17.46 you and the power of God and your determination, 00:43:17.56\00:43:20.26 because it's not like your first rodeo, 00:43:20.33\00:43:22.43 as they say. You've been in ministry 28 years. 00:43:22.53\00:43:25.23 I guarantee you you've been to a bunch of rodeos. 00:43:25.33\00:43:27.90 So, what we don't say is give up. - Exactly. 00:43:28.00\00:43:31.11 - So, "Okay, God. How are you going to bring 00:43:31.17\00:43:32.51 us out of this one?" - That's right. - Right 00:43:32.57\00:43:34.14 now, what they're facing is, of course, that quarter 00:43:34.24\00:43:36.81 million dollars. You may have some or 00:43:36.95\00:43:38.71 part of it done. I'm sure you don't have all of 00:43:38.81\00:43:40.88 it, the radio, but tell our viewers what we 00:43:40.98\00:43:44.85 can do to help with this. - Let me tell you, Danny, 00:43:44.95\00:43:48.56 what God has done. He has, to His glory, provided 00:43:48.66\00:43:55.46 all the funds for the radio work. - Wow! 00:43:55.56\00:43:58.53 That is amazing. - To do this quarter million 00:43:58.63\00:44:01.97 dollar rebuild, He provided that. - That's amazing. 00:44:02.07\00:44:04.41 - It's absolutely amazing. But what He has done... 00:44:04.51\00:44:07.34 He didn't stop there. - Okay. - I called 3ABN 00:44:07.44\00:44:10.28 to get some counsel, and I was talking with 00:44:10.38\00:44:13.58 your engineer here. - Moses. - And we began to talk 00:44:13.65\00:44:16.92 about the fact that we've had an application in for 00:44:17.02\00:44:21.12 a TV station for a while and we got the construction 00:44:21.22\00:44:24.13 permit. But you know what the FCC's been 00:44:24.23\00:44:26.09 doing with those frequencies and stuff, so it's been 00:44:26.23\00:44:29.76 sitting dormant. But we found out that our license 00:44:29.86\00:44:34.77 to construct the TV station is now open. - Wow. - With 00:44:34.87\00:44:38.91 a dedicated frequency that we can build there. 00:44:39.01\00:44:40.78 - Wow. Isn't that amazing? - So what I would like to 00:44:40.84\00:44:43.95 do is appeal to the 3ABN audience to take this 00:44:44.05\00:44:47.65 thing to the next level. - Okay. - Because God 00:44:47.75\00:44:49.95 has opened the door for us through this tragedy 00:44:50.05\00:44:53.05 to now do the Low Power TV, as well. - Okay. - And 00:44:54.32\00:44:57.86 He has provided so abundantly at this point 00:44:58.83\00:45:01.16 that I am sitting here today in full confidence 00:45:01.26\00:45:04.33 that He's going to provide what we need to get that 00:45:04.47\00:45:06.84 Low Power TV on the air, as well. - Absolutely. 00:45:06.97\00:45:10.11 - And to be a 3ABN affiliate in that area, broadcasting 00:45:10.17\00:45:15.81 the good news of Jesus to people in that area. 00:45:15.88\00:45:18.95 They tell us that the budget is about $100,000 00:45:19.05\00:45:21.88 for this. - Yeah. Yeah. - But I believe that God 00:45:21.98\00:45:25.15 has this, and I want to tell you why. I 00:45:25.25\00:45:28.22 was sitting in my office about a few days after 00:45:28.32\00:45:30.63 I got home from my trip and I found out what 00:45:30.69\00:45:33.09 happened. I've been through the ashes and 00:45:33.16\00:45:35.06 we're starting to clean things up, and I had 00:45:35.16\00:45:37.30 begun to process what we needed to do for 00:45:37.40\00:45:40.20 fundraising, and I was just sitting there 00:45:40.27\00:45:41.60 and making some phone calls, and this little girl 00:45:41.70\00:45:45.77 came to my door. She said, "Mr. Steve? Are 00:45:45.87\00:45:48.71 you busy right now?" And of course that, 00:45:48.81\00:45:52.08 in my case, is the question that always, "Yes, I'm 00:45:52.18\00:45:54.48 always busy, but it's okay." So I said, "No, 00:45:54.58\00:45:56.82 come on in! Sit down. What can I do for you?" 00:45:56.89\00:45:58.95 And another little girl popped her head around 00:45:59.05\00:46:01.96 the door, and so I saw there were two of them, 00:46:02.06\00:46:03.69 and they live there on our campus. She sat 00:46:03.79\00:46:06.46 down and she said, "You know, we're worried about 00:46:06.53\00:46:09.63 the radio station." I said, "Really?" She says, 00:46:09.73\00:46:13.00 "Yeah." She said, "So, we want to make a 00:46:13.10\00:46:17.07 donation." And I say, "Well, how nice. That's 00:46:17.14\00:46:21.24 so nice of you to want to make a donation." 00:46:21.31\00:46:23.55 And she handed me an envelope, and in that 00:46:24.25\00:46:29.62 envelope, there was $767. - Oh, praise the Lord. - She said, 00:46:29.72\00:46:35.19 "You know, I think it's more important that 00:46:35.29\00:46:37.39 people be able to hear about Jesus than it is 00:46:37.49\00:46:41.50 for me to have a playhouse." She says, "My sister and I 00:46:41.60\00:46:44.83 have been saving money for our little playhouse." 00:46:44.93\00:46:46.87 She says, "But we want to give this to the radio 00:46:47.60\00:46:49.90 station." - Wow. - I just sat there and I said, 00:46:50.01\00:46:53.11 "God's got this." [laughter] It is no problem for Him. 00:46:53.98\00:46:57.91 - Absolutely. - Put your worries aside; the Lord 00:46:57.95\00:47:00.98 is going to do this thing. - Mhm. - And it's 00:47:01.05\00:47:04.02 just amazing to see what God does with little things. 00:47:04.09\00:47:07.72 - Yeah. Little is much when God is in it. - That's 00:47:07.79\00:47:10.39 right. - And so, we're sitting now, facing this 00:47:10.46\00:47:14.00 opportunity to now put a TV antenna and a TV 00:47:14.03\00:47:18.60 transmitter in this new building and on this same 00:47:18.67\00:47:22.04 tower, and I believe God will be glorified when we 00:47:22.10\00:47:26.44 do that. - Yeah. Isn't that great how the Lord 00:47:26.47\00:47:28.48 works? - It is. God is amazing. - Looked like 00:47:28.54\00:47:30.98 it was going to be devastation, and all 00:47:31.01\00:47:32.88 of a sudden comes out a radio that's doing 00:47:32.95\00:47:36.45 different languages- even doing Spanish 00:47:36.52\00:47:38.55 as well as the English- then television. And so, 00:47:38.62\00:47:42.02 I mean, this is really... Pardon this, but it's 00:47:42.06\00:47:44.03 a real kick in the pants to the devil and his work, right? 00:47:44.09\00:47:47.33 And see the pants. But that's what God 00:47:47.43\00:47:49.76 does. He's in the business of creating things. So, what 00:47:49.86\00:47:53.00 we want you to do, we want you to pray and 00:47:53.07\00:47:54.64 ask the Holy Spirit what He would have you to 00:47:54.70\00:47:57.31 do. Now, I want to give you just a minute before 00:47:57.37\00:47:59.34 we put the address on the screen, but I want 00:47:59.41\00:48:01.34 you to get ready to take it down and as 00:48:01.44\00:48:03.41 the Holy Spirit's impressing, you'll want to send a 00:48:03.51\00:48:05.91 tax deductible love gift to Harbert Hills 00:48:06.01\00:48:08.28 Academy, because this is an incredible opportunity- 00:48:08.35\00:48:12.22 and that's why we wanted you to come here. I talked 00:48:12.32\00:48:14.29 to our friend Garwin McNeilus some weeks ago, and he 00:48:14.39\00:48:17.36 was telling me about it. He sent me pictures. 00:48:17.46\00:48:19.29 I mean, this looked like... I mean, it was a total 00:48:21.13\00:48:24.37 bomb-out. It's like, really-sometimes, you 00:48:24.47\00:48:26.60 get a hit in just certain- you know. But this is 00:48:26.67\00:48:29.10 like- destroyed everything. And so, we started talking, 00:48:29.17\00:48:32.47 and he was asking me questions and then 00:48:32.57\00:48:34.14 said, "Why don't you talk to Steve and see 00:48:34.24\00:48:36.58 what we can do?" And I said, "Absolutely. Let's 00:48:36.64\00:48:38.81 do it." It's just beginning. - Yes. - It's gonna happen, 00:48:38.91\00:48:43.89 so we want you in about a year from now to be 00:48:43.95\00:48:46.39 sitting down, should the Lord tarry, and bring 00:48:46.49\00:48:48.36 some of the folk who've come to know Jesus and 00:48:48.49\00:48:50.93 been baptized in the church from watching and listening 00:48:51.03\00:48:53.96 to 3ABN Radio and whatever other programming you have 00:48:54.06\00:48:57.77 there. So, absolutely. - What an opportunity 00:48:57.87\00:49:00.87 to witness to the community and to evangelize the community 00:49:00.94\00:49:05.41 in a way that- you know, media- there's no better 00:49:05.54\00:49:08.61 way than media to me, because you will enter 00:49:08.71\00:49:12.11 the homes or into the cars, or whatever, and 00:49:12.21\00:49:14.92 that's how people can hear about Jesus...and 00:49:15.05\00:49:18.29 it's just amazing. So, what an amazing opportunity. 00:49:18.42\00:49:20.79 - It is an amazing opportunity, and I'm 00:49:20.89\00:49:22.89 just confident that God's going to do something 00:49:23.02\00:49:25.19 amazing for us, and we're going to look back a year 00:49:25.29\00:49:27.56 from now and just continue to praise Him. I shared with 00:49:27.66\00:49:31.53 some folks recently- well, the newspaper asked me 00:49:31.63\00:49:34.04 to do a story about the fire, and so I wrote the 00:49:34.14\00:49:36.84 story and I sent it to him, and the guy called 00:49:36.94\00:49:38.57 me. He said, "Why? You're just sounding like this is a 00:49:38.67\00:49:41.54 good thing!" [laughter] And I said, "Well, what 00:49:41.68\00:49:45.01 else do you do? It's done; we gotta go 00:49:45.11\00:49:47.45 forward." - Mhm. - And he was just amazed that- 00:49:47.55\00:49:50.32 the positive attitude. "We're gonna do this. 00:49:51.69\00:49:53.46 God's gonna bless this." And it's a real opportunity 00:49:53.56\00:49:57.09 just to witness to the community, too, that the 00:49:57.23\00:49:59.33 devil took it down, but God brought it back 00:49:59.39\00:50:02.06 stronger. - Amen. - All right. I think it- and 00:50:02.16\00:50:04.43 as old as I am, I can use the word as "fun". 00:50:04.53\00:50:07.14 It's fun serving the Lord and watching what God is 00:50:07.24\00:50:10.51 gonna do, 'cause we don't know what He's 00:50:10.61\00:50:12.44 gonna do, but we know it's gonna be good. - That's 00:50:12.57\00:50:14.54 right. - Right? For we know that all things 00:50:14.64\00:50:16.95 work together for good to who? - Them that love 00:50:17.05\00:50:20.58 the Lord and are the called according to His 00:50:20.68\00:50:22.72 purpose. - Amen. - And who is that? That's 00:50:22.82\00:50:24.55 all of us. That's all of us who's willing, 00:50:24.65\00:50:26.39 right? As we said in the beginning, if we 00:50:26.45\00:50:28.69 come to Jesus, we're all sinners, we're all 00:50:28.79\00:50:31.46 saved by grace; and if we confess our sins, 00:50:31.59\00:50:34.26 faithful and just He is to forgive us from our 00:50:34.36\00:50:36.83 sins, cleanse us from all unrighteousness... 00:50:36.93\00:50:39.07 Then He says this: "Go ye into all the 00:50:39.17\00:50:41.67 world." But Stevie says, "All power is given me 00:50:41.77\00:50:45.01 in heaven and earth." - Exactly. - Go ye therefore. 00:50:45.07\00:50:46.94 So now... I mean, immediately. So 00:50:47.01\00:50:49.94 what's saying is, "Okay, looks like the end of 00:50:50.05\00:50:52.25 the road of this TV station... No, it's just 00:50:52.31\00:50:54.28 the beginning, 'cause all power, I'm gonna 00:50:54.38\00:50:56.92 transfer that to you. And if you go in My 00:50:57.02\00:50:59.29 name, I will open those doors." As Dr. Walt used 00:50:59.42\00:51:02.12 to say, "I've counted my resources." The 00:51:02.22\00:51:03.86 Lord said, "And advance found that I'm not wanting." 00:51:03.93\00:51:06.49 So Steve, go forward, Savannah,? to that 00:51:06.59\00:51:10.00 whole entire area, television and radio 00:51:10.10\00:51:12.07 for Jesus. What an incredible, incredible 00:51:12.13\00:51:14.80 testimony and opportunity, and we want YOU to have 00:51:14.90\00:51:18.27 the opportunity to be a part of this. So what 00:51:18.37\00:51:20.68 we're going to do now, we're going to go to an 00:51:20.74\00:51:22.08 address roll. You pray and ask the Holy Spirit 00:51:22.11\00:51:24.18 what He would have you to do. Now, if you don't 00:51:24.25\00:51:26.58 get this down for any reason, you can call 00:51:26.68\00:51:28.52 3ABN. We will give you their contact information, 00:51:28.58\00:51:32.09 but we're going to go to that now, and then 00:51:32.19\00:51:33.92 we're gonna go to a newsbreak and come 00:51:34.02\00:51:35.56 back for a closing thought. 00:51:35.66\00:51:37.19 If the Lord impresses you to support Harbert 00:51:39.49\00:51:41.46 Hills Academy and their media ministry and the 00:51:41.56\00:51:44.50 rebuild of their radio station, please send 00:51:44.60\00:51:46.84 your donation or other support to Harbert 00:51:46.90\00:51:50.14 Hills Academy 3575 Lonesome Pine Road 00:51:50.24\00:51:54.11 Savannah, Tennessee 38372.
