Great to be here, again. 00:05:31.19\00:05:33.29 Yeah, I'll tell you, we have rubbed shoulders together 00:05:33.33\00:05:35.63 in the dust as well as on the asphalt. 00:05:35.66\00:05:39.67 And in a nutshell briefly 00:05:39.70\00:05:41.07 before we go to the wonderful person 00:05:41.10\00:05:43.14 sitting to your right and the next person 00:05:43.17\00:05:44.54 to her right, 00:05:44.57\00:05:45.91 give us a nutshell of who you are, 00:05:45.94\00:05:47.51 what you do, and where you are right now? 00:05:47.58\00:05:49.41 Oh, Maranatha is basically a responsive ministry 00:05:49.44\00:05:52.11 to the Seventh-day Adventist Church. 00:05:52.15\00:05:53.52 We don't make-up any of our projects. 00:05:53.55\00:05:55.75 We do what they ask us to do as much as we can. 00:05:55.78\00:05:58.32 And for 50 years, that's what we've been doing. 00:05:58.35\00:06:00.56 Primarily building churches and schools, 00:06:00.59\00:06:04.03 other, some other projects too, 00:06:04.06\00:06:05.69 remodel projects here in the United States, 00:06:05.73\00:06:07.83 camps, campuses that type of thing. 00:06:07.86\00:06:10.57 And we've started drilling a lot of water wells, 00:06:10.60\00:06:12.50 because we find out that there's, 00:06:12.53\00:06:14.37 if people don't have water, it's very hard for them to, 00:06:14.40\00:06:17.81 you know, learn, grow, 00:06:17.84\00:06:20.18 experience Christ for that matter. 00:06:20.21\00:06:22.31 So we've expanded into that area also so. 00:06:22.34\00:06:25.18 Yeah, a lot of volunteers get involved, which is great. 00:06:25.21\00:06:29.58 So the gospel is not just building, 00:06:29.62\00:06:31.12 it's flowing also. 00:06:31.15\00:06:32.49 Okay. 00:06:32.52\00:06:34.42 Yes, the gospel is flowing. 00:06:34.46\00:06:36.22 In fact, when you go out there 00:06:36.26\00:06:37.63 and you see how dry certain places are in the world 00:06:37.66\00:06:40.90 and the impact of water is huge. 00:06:40.93\00:06:44.00 And we're excited to be able to be part of that now. 00:06:44.07\00:06:45.93 And we'll have an example of that today in the program. 00:06:45.97\00:06:47.74 We will, a great example. Yes. 00:06:47.77\00:06:50.51 And, Honey, why don't you introduce the next person. 00:06:50.54\00:06:52.27 Laura, Don's wife. 00:06:52.31\00:06:55.91 Welcome, Laura. Thirty seven years? 00:07:35.65\00:07:38.12 Since high school? 00:07:38.15\00:07:39.72 Pretty much, before that. 00:07:39.75\00:07:41.46 Before. Yeah, yeah, yeah. 00:07:41.49\00:07:42.82 No, since 1982, it's been a blessing, 00:07:42.86\00:07:45.29 you know, to watch what God is doing around the world 00:07:45.33\00:07:48.40 and be able to get out there and see it. 00:07:48.43\00:07:49.96 And sometimes even being able to make decisions 00:07:50.00\00:07:53.64 that make a difference and watching lives get changes 00:07:53.67\00:07:57.31 what's really exciting, 00:07:57.34\00:07:58.67 both on the volunteer side 00:07:58.71\00:08:00.48 and on the recipient side of the project, it's great. 00:08:00.51\00:08:03.48 How many countries have you been to? 00:08:03.55\00:08:05.28 Well, I've been to more countries 00:08:05.31\00:08:07.62 than we've worked in. 00:08:07.65\00:08:08.98 We've worked in about 90 countries 00:08:09.02\00:08:10.42 as Maranatha in the last 50 years. 00:08:10.49\00:08:13.66 But I've traveled a few more, you know, getting around but... 00:08:13.69\00:08:17.13 Okay. It's exciting. 00:08:17.16\00:08:20.83 You know, some people get involved 00:08:20.90\00:08:22.56 because they're excited about going someplace, 00:08:22.60\00:08:26.10 seeing a different culture. 00:08:26.13\00:08:29.34 But sometimes God has something bigger for them. 00:08:29.37\00:08:31.81 That's right. 00:08:31.84\00:08:33.17 If that's their only goal, 00:08:33.21\00:08:35.11 God will show them something else. 00:08:35.14\00:08:36.48 Mm-hmm. 00:08:36.51\00:08:37.85 They see the way people are in 00:08:37.88\00:08:40.15 some of these small areas of the world 00:08:40.22\00:08:42.55 where God is expanding His work. 00:08:42.58\00:08:45.52 I mean, there's countries for example, 00:08:45.55\00:08:47.89 we talked little earlier about Zambia. 00:08:47.92\00:08:52.33 I mean, there're thousands of congregations there 00:08:52.36\00:08:54.83 and when people get out there and they see the excitement 00:08:54.86\00:08:57.50 that people have for the gospel, they say, 00:08:57.57\00:08:59.27 "How come I don't have that back home." 00:08:59.30\00:09:02.34 How come I don't have that same passion 00:09:02.37\00:09:03.81 and it can resurrect that in the life, 00:09:03.84\00:09:06.68 which is great. 00:09:06.71\00:09:08.14 And I don't want to overlook our third guest, Peter Thomas. 00:09:08.18\00:09:12.18 Good to have you here, Peter. 00:09:12.21\00:09:13.55 Thank you. Yeah, that's a new twist. 00:09:48.88\00:09:51.52 Yeah. New twist. 00:09:51.55\00:09:52.89 It reminds me of Manuel EscA rcio, 00:09:52.92\00:09:54.56 whenever he came to America, 00:09:54.59\00:09:55.92 he says, "I'm an African-American." 00:09:55.96\00:09:57.33 Right. Good to have you here. 00:09:57.36\00:09:58.96 But you also do other things with Maranatha. 00:09:58.99\00:10:02.06 Contracts, you're a builder? I do. 00:10:02.10\00:10:03.97 I'm a building contractor in Texas, 00:10:04.00\00:10:06.74 but I also lead Maranatha trips to Africa. 00:10:06.77\00:10:09.34 Okay. 00:10:09.37\00:10:10.71 So I'm able to use the skills 00:10:10.74\00:10:12.31 that I've honed over a lifetime to take groups of volunteers 00:10:12.34\00:10:16.64 into some very out of the way places in Africa 00:10:16.68\00:10:19.91 and build the buildings 00:10:19.95\00:10:21.95 and experience the volunteers as they are... 00:10:21.98\00:10:28.39 as they experience new cultures. 00:10:28.42\00:10:30.43 And watch the lifestyle change that they go through 00:10:30.46\00:10:34.36 by watching how other people live. 00:10:34.40\00:10:36.30 And, Honey... Were you parents' missionaries? 00:10:36.33\00:10:38.23 Yes, they were. Wow! 00:10:38.27\00:10:39.90 My parents were second generation missionaries. 00:10:39.93\00:10:42.00 My grandparents on my father's side left England 00:10:42.04\00:10:44.54 in 1926 to go to Kenya. 00:10:44.57\00:10:48.28 See, Honey, he has roots like you do from England. 00:10:48.31\00:10:50.78 I was born in England. 00:10:50.85\00:10:52.28 Wow! I know. 00:11:00.69\00:11:02.19 And also there's something 00:11:02.22\00:11:03.83 that you were like the place that he's from, 00:11:03.86\00:11:06.09 specifically where were you born in Kenya? 00:11:06.13\00:11:08.50 In Kisii. 00:11:08.53\00:11:09.86 Oh, Kisii, Kenya? Yep. 00:11:09.90\00:11:11.37 3ABN Radio, 00:11:11.40\00:11:12.73 we have a full-power 3ABN radio station 00:11:12.77\00:11:15.70 in Kisii, Kenya. 00:11:15.74\00:11:17.11 Yeah, when I was born, it was a small town 00:11:17.14\00:11:18.77 and now it's a large city as you know 00:11:18.81\00:11:21.54 if you've been there recently. 00:11:21.58\00:11:23.45 And the former president of the United States 00:11:23.48\00:11:26.45 has roots in Kisii, Kenya. 00:11:26.48\00:11:29.18 I don't think he's Kisii. 00:11:29.22\00:11:30.59 I think he's Kisii. 00:11:30.62\00:11:31.95 Anyway, that's another part of the program. 00:11:31.99\00:11:33.89 That's just trivia for all the people 00:11:33.96\00:11:35.56 who are watching to figure it out. 00:11:35.59\00:11:37.56 But, Don, let's get back to Maranatha, 00:11:37.63\00:11:39.29 Maranatha is an organization that has transformed 00:11:39.33\00:11:42.23 our way of thinking about building projects. 00:11:42.26\00:11:44.87 Take us a little bit over the history of Maranatha. 00:11:44.90\00:11:47.27 And just, we're gonna sharpen that 00:11:47.34\00:11:48.74 and hone that in just a moment, 00:11:48.77\00:11:50.11 but kinda give us some background on Maranatha? 00:11:50.14\00:11:52.01 We started in 1969. 00:11:52.04\00:11:55.48 Just a group of people that got in airplanes 00:11:55.51\00:11:58.58 and flew close by the United States 00:11:58.61\00:12:00.95 to the Bahamas and built the church, 00:12:00.98\00:12:04.42 a place called Eight Mile Rock on Grand Bahama. 00:12:04.45\00:12:07.36 And that's something that, you know, 00:12:07.39\00:12:12.26 has come back into the news. 00:12:12.29\00:12:13.70 But it was the beginning of something 00:12:13.73\00:12:16.70 that they didn't know, they didn't really realize. 00:12:16.77\00:12:19.80 But they started doing a few other projects 00:12:19.83\00:12:21.57 and so Maranatha 00:12:21.60\00:12:23.41 at that time flights international was born 00:12:23.44\00:12:25.37 and because each trip was called The Flight, 00:12:25.41\00:12:28.08 and contractors with smaller planes 00:12:28.11\00:12:30.55 would fly to different places, Central America, Mexico, 00:12:30.58\00:12:35.85 the Caribbean areas 00:12:35.88\00:12:37.22 that were accessible by small plane, 00:12:37.29\00:12:38.62 and they would take people with them, 00:12:38.65\00:12:39.99 each project was called The Flight, 00:12:40.02\00:12:42.09 and so it grew. 00:12:42.12\00:12:45.73 And eventually, as the word got out, 00:12:45.76\00:12:50.37 other parts of the world 00:12:50.40\00:12:51.73 started asking for projects too. 00:12:51.77\00:12:53.13 In fact, it seems like God was kind of watching this thing 00:12:53.17\00:12:55.77 as the church grew in other parts of the world 00:12:55.80\00:13:01.44 massively, actually, as you get into the 80s, 00:13:01.48\00:13:05.18 the need for simple structures 00:13:05.21\00:13:07.52 became phenomenal around the world. 00:13:07.55\00:13:09.75 And so, that's why we have requests 00:13:09.78\00:13:11.72 for over 100,000 projects in our office. 00:13:11.75\00:13:14.32 Wow, that's job security. 00:13:14.36\00:13:16.02 Well, I know... 00:13:16.06\00:13:18.73 When I first started in 1982, I thought, well, you know, 00:13:18.76\00:13:22.03 we'll work for a few years 00:13:22.06\00:13:23.40 and we'll get all these projects done 00:13:23.47\00:13:24.80 and then I'll go do something else. 00:13:24.83\00:13:26.33 No. No way. 00:13:26.37\00:13:27.90 You know, there's a great demand 00:13:27.94\00:13:30.61 in churches, schools, physical places 00:13:30.64\00:13:35.68 are important to gather the people of God together. 00:13:35.71\00:13:38.98 And worship for education, very, very important, 00:13:39.01\00:13:42.72 more so than we realized. 00:13:42.75\00:13:44.79 And in fact, they find that 00:13:44.82\00:13:47.36 if they don't have a place for people to meet, 00:13:47.39\00:13:50.96 the people tend to scatter. 00:13:50.99\00:13:53.16 And sometimes they'll say, 00:13:53.19\00:13:54.73 "Well, let them meet under the tree." 00:13:54.76\00:13:57.17 Well, maybe they worship that tree. 00:13:57.20\00:13:59.27 If that was the religion that they had initially 00:13:59.30\00:14:02.50 and that doesn't work so well. 00:14:02.54\00:14:04.97 So that's how we're working with Garwin McNeilus 00:14:05.01\00:14:09.41 and ASI and others. 00:14:09.44\00:14:10.78 We started working on the One-Day Church program, 00:14:10.85\00:14:15.12 which, because you don't have to do a fancy building 00:14:15.15\00:14:18.49 in some of these places. 00:14:18.52\00:14:19.85 Now, some of the places we work we have to increase... 00:14:19.89\00:14:23.19 Yeah, it has to work with the culture. 00:14:23.22\00:14:24.96 But there's places where 00:14:24.99\00:14:26.33 that's the nicest building in town. 00:14:26.36\00:14:28.06 And there, you can't believe 00:14:28.10\00:14:31.33 the gratitude for something simple. 00:14:31.37\00:14:33.94 But we live differently in our society here, 00:14:33.97\00:14:37.41 but when volunteers go out and see it, 00:14:37.44\00:14:40.41 and it's transformational. 00:14:40.48\00:14:42.18 As young or old, 00:14:42.21\00:14:44.31 and we have probably close to half of our volunteers 00:14:44.35\00:14:49.25 that are 25 and under. 00:14:49.28\00:14:53.09 It used to be considered old folks operation, 00:14:53.12\00:14:56.76 but it's started spanning the age brackets 00:14:56.83\00:15:01.33 all the way across, even families. 00:15:01.36\00:15:04.10 Some of our most popular projects are family projects. 00:15:04.17\00:15:06.84 Wow! Wow! 00:15:06.87\00:15:08.20 Especially at Christmas time. 00:15:08.24\00:15:09.57 Christmas? Families... 00:15:09.60\00:15:10.94 Yeah, you wouldn't think that, 00:15:10.97\00:15:12.31 but families are trying to teach their children 00:15:12.34\00:15:16.21 that there's more to life than getting presents, 00:15:16.24\00:15:20.52 giving critical to giving as a life thought process. 00:15:20.55\00:15:26.45 What am I thinking of, Honey? 00:15:26.49\00:15:28.12 About the girl in... Go ahead. 00:15:28.16\00:15:30.63 It was in Zimbabwe... Zimbabwe. 00:15:30.66\00:15:32.46 When we were there, there's a... 00:15:32.49\00:15:35.03 I think, she was about 17 years old 00:15:35.06\00:15:36.53 or so maybe 14, I think above 14. 00:15:36.56\00:15:38.40 Above 14. 00:15:38.43\00:15:39.87 And I was surprised to see such a young girl 00:15:39.90\00:15:42.97 at this building site. 00:15:43.00\00:15:46.21 And her mother indicated 00:15:46.24\00:15:47.81 that she had been doing mission projects 00:15:47.84\00:15:50.45 for since she was seven years old. 00:15:50.48\00:15:52.58 And one year, they said, "You know, 00:15:52.61\00:15:54.45 we're gonna do something different this summer, 00:15:54.48\00:15:55.82 we're going to go to Disney World." 00:15:55.85\00:15:57.62 Well, she went to Disney World and she said as a teenager. 00:15:57.65\00:16:00.39 She said, "I absolutely hated it." 00:16:00.46\00:16:02.62 Mom said, "What's wrong? 00:16:02.66\00:16:04.03 I thought you want to do 00:16:04.06\00:16:05.39 something different this summer." 00:16:05.43\00:16:06.76 She said, "No, Mom, I need to be with Maranatha. 00:16:06.80\00:16:08.13 I need to be on a building product." 00:16:08.16\00:16:09.50 Yes. "This is not what I wanna do. 00:16:09.53\00:16:10.90 This is waste of money." Yes. 00:16:10.97\00:16:12.47 I said, "So do you like?" 00:16:12.50\00:16:13.84 She said, "I love it when I'm with Maranatha." 00:16:13.87\00:16:15.37 Now that she's probably about 20 or 20 some years old now. 00:16:15.40\00:16:18.67 But I was amazed that you also have, 00:16:18.71\00:16:20.78 and, Laura, I told this to you, 00:16:20.81\00:16:22.14 you have a portion of Maranatha 00:16:22.18\00:16:23.55 that young people really dive into. 00:16:23.58\00:16:25.78 Right, we have a special project every year 00:16:25.81\00:16:27.92 called, "Ultimate Workout." 00:16:27.95\00:16:29.28 And some years we even have two Ultimate Workouts, 00:16:29.32\00:16:31.15 because the signup is so large. 00:16:31.19\00:16:32.59 So Ultimate Workout is for teenagers 00:16:32.62\00:16:34.99 between 14 and 18 years old, 00:16:35.02\00:16:37.13 and it's really not for parents. 00:16:37.16\00:16:39.26 So parents, you know, and I've tried to come 00:16:39.29\00:16:41.33 with my nieces and they're like, 00:16:41.36\00:16:42.70 "No, that's where we draw the line," you know, 00:16:42.73\00:16:44.60 so it really is for teenagers. 00:16:44.63\00:16:46.30 And what's cool is the leadership 00:16:46.33\00:16:49.04 is just a little bit older, 00:16:49.07\00:16:50.71 and then we have some older leadership there. 00:16:50.74\00:16:52.77 So if you're a parent, you can rest assure that 00:16:52.81\00:16:54.68 these kids are definitely taken care of. 00:16:54.71\00:16:56.31 But this year, 00:16:56.34\00:16:58.05 our Ultimate Workout was in Kenya, 00:16:58.08\00:17:00.62 and we've never shipped kids over to Africa. 00:17:00.65\00:17:03.59 So, you know, honestly, it is a bit of a nail biter, 00:17:03.62\00:17:06.19 but everybody came back 00:17:06.22\00:17:07.66 and came back with an experience. 00:17:07.69\00:17:09.79 Okay. 00:17:09.82\00:17:11.16 So it was just a fantastic trip. 00:17:11.19\00:17:12.53 I mean, probably one of the most 00:17:12.56\00:17:15.66 spiritual wonderful trips ever. 00:17:15.70\00:17:19.60 We were just telling Pete last night about, 00:17:19.63\00:17:24.01 we had a banker show up at our office 00:17:24.04\00:17:27.88 and, you know, you talk and you tell them 00:17:27.91\00:17:29.71 what you do in this and the other thing, 00:17:29.74\00:17:31.15 and the banker was a woman and she said, 00:17:31.18\00:17:32.95 "You know, I think I'll send my daughter." 00:17:32.98\00:17:35.98 Okay. 00:17:36.02\00:17:37.39 And she did, 00:17:37.42\00:17:38.75 and the daughter had just a fantastic time. 00:17:38.79\00:17:41.29 So, you know, 00:17:41.32\00:17:43.12 it's really an interesting thing. 00:17:43.16\00:17:45.59 you never know 00:17:45.63\00:17:47.00 how a life is going to be changed. 00:17:47.03\00:17:48.96 And that is really the mission of every Christian 00:17:49.00\00:17:53.54 on this planet, right, 00:17:53.57\00:17:54.90 is that we know that as human beings, 00:17:54.94\00:17:57.11 we need something more than ourselves 00:17:57.14\00:17:59.51 and even more than those other people 00:17:59.54\00:18:01.48 that care about us, we need God. 00:18:01.51\00:18:03.21 That's right. 00:18:03.24\00:18:04.58 And that is really the only true satisfying thing. 00:18:04.61\00:18:06.72 And the sooner you find that out, 00:18:06.75\00:18:08.45 and the sooner you really believe that, 00:18:08.48\00:18:11.05 the better and more satisfying your life is gonna be. 00:18:11.09\00:18:13.89 And I think teenagers, 00:18:13.96\00:18:15.29 you'll add that vector in their life, 00:18:15.32\00:18:18.26 where everything can go one way or the other, 00:18:18.29\00:18:20.93 and we know that as adults. 00:18:20.96\00:18:23.20 So the Ultimate Workout is really trying to direct 00:18:23.23\00:18:26.27 our goal is to direct every young person there 00:18:26.30\00:18:30.31 to begin, or reestablish, 00:18:30.34\00:18:33.04 or cement in a relationship with Jesus Christ, 00:18:33.07\00:18:36.75 because that really is the only thing 00:18:36.78\00:18:38.38 that's satisfying. 00:18:38.41\00:18:40.02 And isn't it true that Maranatha 00:18:40.05\00:18:41.75 and I want to go to Pete just right after this. 00:18:41.78\00:18:43.89 Isn't it true that some of the children 00:18:43.92\00:18:45.49 that go to the Ultimate Workout end up wanted to be baptized? 00:18:45.52\00:18:48.22 Absolutely. Yeah. 00:18:48.26\00:18:49.59 So it's not just an experience for them, they get... 00:18:49.62\00:18:51.46 they meet Christ there. 00:18:51.49\00:18:52.83 They meet Christ there and they have a huge turn 00:18:52.86\00:18:56.13 and that is the turn that we're all hoping for, right? 00:18:56.16\00:18:58.60 And really one of those turns that you do every day, right? 00:18:58.63\00:19:02.04 We've been seeing 20 to 30 baptisms a year 00:19:02.07\00:19:04.54 on the Ultimate Workout. 00:19:04.57\00:19:06.01 And this year it included some of the locals as well 00:19:06.04\00:19:09.08 that we're interacting with the kids, 00:19:09.11\00:19:10.55 so it's pretty neat. 00:19:10.58\00:19:13.82 These experiences are more than just construction 00:19:13.85\00:19:16.18 because some people are, "Well, I can't do construction. 00:19:16.22\00:19:18.22 I don't want to do construction," 00:19:18.25\00:19:19.59 but there's other kinds of outreach 00:19:19.62\00:19:21.22 that always go along with these projects. 00:19:21.26\00:19:24.16 Whether it's something as simple as a Vacation 00:19:24.23\00:19:25.79 Bible School, lot of health ministries. 00:19:25.83\00:19:28.16 Oh, yeah. Yes, we have met them. 00:19:28.20\00:19:29.76 And sometimes, you know, 00:19:29.80\00:19:31.20 traditional evangelism too 00:19:31.23\00:19:32.73 can work in depending on the interests of the groups 00:19:32.77\00:19:36.37 that are going so. 00:19:36.40\00:19:37.81 Now, Pete, as a builder and being with Maranatha, 00:19:37.84\00:19:40.98 you're not just a board member, 00:19:41.01\00:19:42.34 talk about some of your experiences 00:19:42.38\00:19:43.85 because, as a builder, 00:19:43.88\00:19:45.21 I'm sure you've been at Ground Zero. 00:19:45.25\00:19:46.58 Correct. Okay, talk about some of that? 00:19:46.61\00:19:48.78 Well, one of the things that first appealed to being about 00:19:48.82\00:19:51.15 Maranatha was the organizational structure, 00:19:51.19\00:19:54.09 because prior to going on my first Maranatha trip, 00:19:54.16\00:19:57.26 I'd been on other mission trips with other denominations, 00:19:57.33\00:20:00.63 other groups and it always seemed like, 00:20:00.70\00:20:03.57 you spent half of your time once you got there, 00:20:03.60\00:20:05.93 assembling all of the materials that you needed for a job. 00:20:05.97\00:20:09.87 With Maranatha, you show up in day one, 00:20:09.90\00:20:13.58 you're under construction. 00:20:13.61\00:20:15.58 And so, for a builder or for people 00:20:15.61\00:20:18.55 that are in the building business, 00:20:18.58\00:20:20.32 that's exciting because you don't want to travel 00:20:20.35\00:20:22.52 long distances to someplace 00:20:22.55\00:20:23.92 and then spend a lot of time trying to organize yourselves. 00:20:23.99\00:20:26.76 It's all organized, the logistics are amazing. 00:20:26.79\00:20:29.62 We just go to work. That's right. 00:20:29.66\00:20:31.29 And so, over the course of seven or eight days, 00:20:31.33\00:20:34.23 we literally will build a complete building. 00:20:34.30\00:20:37.77 And the volunteers can see the finished product 00:20:37.80\00:20:40.34 and, so it's very rewarding for me 00:20:40.37\00:20:44.37 as a contractor to be able to go over 00:20:44.41\00:20:46.11 and complete structures once I get there. 00:20:46.14\00:20:48.14 So you supervise? 00:20:48.18\00:20:49.64 Yes. Wow! 00:20:49.68\00:20:51.05 Well, some people claim that I whip them with a whip, 00:20:51.08\00:20:54.35 but it's more... To get it done. 00:20:54.38\00:20:55.72 Yeah, we have a good time, 00:20:55.75\00:20:57.09 but we also get some work done. 00:20:57.12\00:20:58.45 Yes. 00:20:58.49\00:20:59.82 You know, Maranatha is exciting, Don, 00:20:59.85\00:21:01.19 you want to say something? 00:21:01.22\00:21:02.56 I was just gonna say, you know, we need people like Pete, 00:21:02.59\00:21:03.93 because a lot of volunteers can go to work 00:21:03.96\00:21:05.79 under the leadership of one or two good skilled people. 00:21:05.83\00:21:09.56 Everybody doesn't have to know everything. 00:21:09.60\00:21:11.13 But you have to have some people that know. 00:21:11.17\00:21:13.74 And that's why you have to have guys like Pete 00:21:13.77\00:21:16.17 that are willing to go, and supervise, 00:21:16.20\00:21:18.74 and be patient 00:21:18.77\00:21:20.41 and not use the whip, sorry, Pete. 00:21:20.48\00:21:23.55 But really help them realize 00:21:23.58\00:21:25.85 that they can make a difference. 00:21:25.88\00:21:28.15 Honey, I mean, you remember the time we were in Zimbabwe, 00:21:28.18\00:21:31.02 and I remember the One-Day Church 00:21:31.05\00:21:33.02 because in Zambia, we did the brick. 00:21:33.05\00:21:35.59 But in Zimbabwe, we did that One-Day Church structure, 00:21:35.62\00:21:38.06 and it was so inspiring, 00:21:38.09\00:21:39.66 that we went to a spot where, 00:21:39.69\00:21:41.53 in a matter of days, 00:21:41.56\00:21:42.90 and I like the fact that some of those structures. 00:21:42.93\00:21:44.77 It's quite different in Zimbabwe, 00:21:44.80\00:21:46.23 I mean, in Zambia, it took a little longer 00:21:46.27\00:21:47.67 because of the kinds of brick and different function. 00:21:47.70\00:21:51.24 And then I think the inspiration 00:21:51.27\00:21:52.61 came the next time out 00:21:52.64\00:21:54.28 that the One-Day Church just spring into action 00:21:54.31\00:21:56.68 and we were able to put up like 14 buildings. 00:21:56.75\00:21:59.75 Including a school from kindergarten 00:21:59.78\00:22:02.22 all the way up to, 00:22:02.25\00:22:03.59 and then the church was not a metal, 00:22:03.62\00:22:05.95 the church was brick. 00:22:05.99\00:22:07.36 And I think we had a dedication there, 00:22:07.39\00:22:09.32 it was a very inspiring thing. 00:22:09.36\00:22:11.09 But the thing that reminded me 00:22:11.13\00:22:12.46 so much of the passion of Maranatha 00:22:12.49\00:22:14.36 as we didn't just see young people, 00:22:14.40\00:22:16.67 but we saw these two old ladies, 00:22:16.70\00:22:18.20 do you remember that. 00:22:18.23\00:22:19.57 And there was an older lady. 00:22:19.60\00:22:22.04 I didn't... I asked... 00:22:22.07\00:22:23.41 I don't usually ask age, but she was so vibrant, 00:22:23.44\00:22:26.91 I had to ask her age. 00:22:26.98\00:22:28.61 I said, "How old are you?" She says, "I'm 87." 00:22:28.64\00:22:32.08 I said, and she's passing these steel girders 00:22:32.11\00:22:35.78 from person to next off the trucks. 00:22:35.82\00:22:38.15 I'm thinking 87 shouldn't... 00:22:38.19\00:22:41.29 So there's no age limit, is it? No. 00:22:41.32\00:22:43.56 No, you know, people self-select on this, 00:22:43.63\00:22:47.20 and some people can do and some can't. 00:22:47.23\00:22:49.06 We had a an old mason that 00:22:49.10\00:22:51.43 when he was 91or 92, he had a walker, 00:22:51.47\00:22:55.30 and he'd go to the pile of concrete block 00:22:55.34\00:22:59.24 and he put on several them, 00:22:59.27\00:23:00.98 he put it over the wall and he was a great mason. 00:23:01.01\00:23:04.78 He's been a mason all his life 00:23:04.81\00:23:06.15 and people always wanted to take pictures of him. 00:23:06.18\00:23:08.08 And he said, 'Hurry up, take the picture. 00:23:08.12\00:23:09.45 I got a wall to build." 00:23:09.48\00:23:10.82 You know, but He even with his walker at his advanced age, 00:23:10.89\00:23:15.49 he was putting more block in the wall than anybody else. 00:23:15.52\00:23:18.56 And what I said to her, I said... 00:23:18.59\00:23:20.30 She said, "What do you think 00:23:20.33\00:23:21.80 I should be doing at home rotting in a chair?" 00:23:21.83\00:23:24.17 And then we found out her sister was there. 00:23:24.20\00:23:26.84 So they were both one 87 and one 89, and she said, 00:23:26.87\00:23:29.70 "Well, what do you expect us to do sit at home 00:23:29.74\00:23:31.17 and just rot in a chair." 00:23:31.21\00:23:32.54 And I thought, wow, here we are, 00:23:32.57\00:23:34.74 at any age 00:23:34.78\00:23:36.21 if you have a passion to do something, 00:23:36.24\00:23:38.28 because in ministry and Maranatha, 00:23:38.31\00:23:40.42 as you mentioned earlier, I mean, 00:23:40.45\00:23:41.88 you have so many requests for churches, 00:23:41.92\00:23:44.39 that what you envisioned back in '82, 00:23:44.42\00:23:47.36 there's no retirement, not for this particular one. 00:23:47.39\00:23:51.66 Well, John Freeman, 00:23:51.69\00:23:53.03 the Founder of Maranatha in '69, 00:23:53.06\00:23:54.96 he used to say, 00:23:55.00\00:23:56.67 "You know, retirement is out of this world." 00:23:56.70\00:23:59.33 Yes. I like that. 00:23:59.37\00:24:00.77 So and that's true. 00:24:00.84\00:24:03.14 I doubt that the people that started Maranatha 00:24:03.17\00:24:06.68 in the early days really expected 00:24:06.71\00:24:09.38 it to last 50 years. 00:24:09.41\00:24:12.18 I mean, Maranatha, Jesus is coming, 00:24:12.21\00:24:14.95 you know, come quickly, Lord Jesus. 00:24:14.98\00:24:17.09 And we still live under that thought process, 00:24:17.12\00:24:19.65 and that hope, and that desire. 00:24:19.69\00:24:23.22 But we don't want another 50. Oh! 00:24:23.26\00:24:26.13 One thing, though, I will have to say 00:24:26.16\00:24:27.86 about the 50, is this is our 50th year. 00:24:27.90\00:24:31.17 Oh, yeah! 00:24:31.20\00:24:32.57 And what's interesting, as you look back at, 00:24:32.60\00:24:36.71 you know, we're kind of compiling 00:24:36.74\00:24:38.77 and looking back at, how did this happen, 00:24:38.81\00:24:40.91 and what happened, and who did, wonder that. 00:24:40.98\00:24:44.15 And what's so inspiring to me is, 00:24:44.18\00:24:48.18 this is not an organization that somebody dreamed up 00:24:48.22\00:24:51.89 or that somebody with tremendous skill 00:24:51.92\00:24:54.29 or passion, 00:24:54.32\00:24:55.66 this is an organization that God wanted. 00:24:55.69\00:24:57.66 That's right. 00:24:57.69\00:24:59.03 And He was gonna have it. That's right. 00:24:59.06\00:25:01.03 Like God was going to have this organization, 00:25:01.06\00:25:03.50 whether people wanted to be involved or not, 00:25:03.57\00:25:06.50 like, I'm asking you, but if not you, 00:25:06.53\00:25:09.20 someone else, this is gonna happen, 00:25:09.24\00:25:11.14 because it's important. 00:25:11.17\00:25:12.84 And yeah, it's not about the buildings, 00:25:12.87\00:25:15.11 it's about the people. 00:25:15.14\00:25:16.48 That's right. And make no mistake. 00:25:16.51\00:25:18.28 But those buildings are important. 00:25:18.31\00:25:20.62 So they're like the entrA(C)e to all these souls 00:25:20.65\00:25:23.69 that are coming into the kingdom. 00:25:23.72\00:25:25.12 And those of us who work on the buildings 00:25:25.15\00:25:27.96 and those of us who receive the buildings, 00:25:27.99\00:25:30.66 this is a huge blessing. 00:25:30.73\00:25:32.06 And this is God in this. 00:25:32.09\00:25:33.43 So what's really cool is, I know, 00:25:33.46\00:25:36.20 you guys work with an organization 00:25:36.23\00:25:38.93 that holds hands with God, 00:25:38.97\00:25:40.37 you are partners with God. 00:25:40.44\00:25:42.37 We are too, and what a thrill. 00:25:42.40\00:25:45.51 I mean, could you, I mean, there's hardly, 00:25:45.54\00:25:47.58 I mean, really, what a thrill. 00:25:47.61\00:25:49.31 I mean, you can't ask to do something better. 00:25:49.34\00:25:51.21 Yeah, it's better than that. We needed. 00:25:51.25\00:25:52.61 Yeah, what's better, you know, so that's one thing 00:25:52.65\00:25:56.08 that has really just so underscored 00:25:56.12\00:25:58.89 in big red pen, 00:25:58.92\00:26:01.79 like, hey, this is God's hand in this 00:26:01.82\00:26:04.89 and He has kept this organization 00:26:04.93\00:26:07.20 this whole time. 00:26:07.23\00:26:08.56 Yeah, I hope we're not still in business in 50 years, 00:26:08.60\00:26:11.07 my goodness so, but you know. 00:26:11.10\00:26:12.43 I agree with you. 00:26:12.47\00:26:13.84 You know, when you statistically 00:26:13.87\00:26:16.04 or chronologically say, 00:26:16.07\00:26:17.41 "I think I have more time behind me than ahead of me." 00:26:17.44\00:26:20.18 We start saying Maranatha with more passion, 00:26:20.21\00:26:22.08 " Maranatha even so come Lord Jesus." 00:26:22.11\00:26:23.65 Yes, you do. Yeah. 00:26:23.68\00:26:25.01 I want also to talk about the fact 00:26:25.05\00:26:26.38 that Maranatha is not just an organization 00:26:26.41\00:26:28.48 that builds churches based on requests, 00:26:28.52\00:26:31.22 but Maranatha has been a key staple 00:26:31.25\00:26:33.66 in times of disaster. 00:26:33.69\00:26:36.06 Yeah, we're not exactly 00:26:36.09\00:26:37.43 a disaster response organization. 00:26:37.46\00:26:38.79 But there's times 00:26:38.83\00:26:40.40 when the church has requested us to step in 00:26:40.43\00:26:43.57 and help and a number of those can go back 00:26:43.60\00:26:47.24 to the earthquake in Haiti. 00:26:47.27\00:26:50.41 That's one of the times 00:26:50.44\00:26:51.77 that the One-Day product was pretty helpful. 00:26:51.81\00:26:54.18 I've to go in there and provide stuff 00:26:54.21\00:26:55.64 very quickly for them 00:26:55.68\00:26:57.05 when they lost so many that's... 00:26:57.08\00:26:59.78 The hurricane in what was it? 00:26:59.81\00:27:02.25 17 in Dominica? Yeah. 00:27:02.28\00:27:06.32 You probably heard more about the hurricane in Puerto Rico, 00:27:06.35\00:27:09.46 but it was the same hurricane, but it had hit Dominica harder. 00:27:09.49\00:27:12.19 Matter of fact, we have a couple of pictures, 00:27:12.23\00:27:13.60 I want to show you... 00:27:13.63\00:27:14.96 We're gonna show our viewers before and after, 00:27:15.00\00:27:16.36 if you are on the radio, we try to describe this. 00:27:16.40\00:27:18.30 That's the church on a rock right, 00:27:18.33\00:27:20.14 the ocean is right clear behind it. 00:27:20.17\00:27:21.70 I never forgot that picture when we saw. 00:27:21.74\00:27:23.81 You remember, Honey. Mm-hmm. 00:27:23.84\00:27:25.24 And that was before... 00:27:25.27\00:27:26.98 That was after the hurricane had done some severe damage. 00:27:27.01\00:27:30.25 Yeah. Yeah, it... 00:27:30.28\00:27:32.18 Actually the hurricane either totaled out 00:27:32.21\00:27:35.95 or severely damaged 28 out of 32 00:27:35.98\00:27:40.06 or 33 churches on the island. 00:27:40.09\00:27:42.52 So it took out almost everything 00:27:42.56\00:27:44.13 that the church had. 00:27:44.16\00:27:45.66 Now that was before. Yeah, well. 00:27:45.69\00:27:47.93 Let's see the after. Oh, yeah. Just look into it. 00:27:47.96\00:27:50.17 This is the hand of Maranatha. 00:27:50.20\00:27:51.87 Praise the Lord! Amen. 00:27:51.90\00:27:53.23 This is the church, it's kind of interesting 00:27:53.27\00:27:56.00 because this is built to withstand pretty much 00:27:56.04\00:28:00.11 whatever hurricane wants to come at it. 00:28:00.18\00:28:03.24 It's expensive, it's strong, powerful building. 00:28:03.28\00:28:06.75 We asked the locals what they thought 00:28:06.82\00:28:09.82 of this building in terms of another hurricane. 00:28:09.85\00:28:13.49 They says, "Well, if we get another one, 00:28:13.56\00:28:15.32 we know where we're going." 00:28:15.36\00:28:17.33 Going to church. We're going to church. 00:28:17.36\00:28:18.96 That's a beautiful view. 00:28:18.99\00:28:20.33 Now, Pete, were you involved in this project? 00:28:20.40\00:28:22.10 I was. Oh, you were? 00:28:22.13\00:28:23.47 I went there with Maranatha shortly 00:28:23.50\00:28:25.00 after the hurricane hit. 00:28:25.03\00:28:27.44 I was able to help with assessments there 00:28:27.47\00:28:29.84 and then I also was there 00:28:29.87\00:28:31.21 as a part of the construction of that church. 00:28:31.24\00:28:32.64 Wow! 00:28:32.67\00:28:34.01 And Don is right, 00:28:34.08\00:28:35.74 you couldn't drive a tank through that building. 00:28:35.78\00:28:37.81 It's there forever. 00:28:37.85\00:28:39.71 That's good to know, 00:28:39.75\00:28:41.08 because what better place to be during a time of storm 00:28:41.12\00:28:44.42 than in a church. 00:28:44.45\00:28:45.79 Praise the Lord. Yeah. 00:28:45.82\00:28:47.39 And I'm glad you mentioned that because sometimes we talk about 00:28:47.46\00:28:49.89 the One-Day Church, 00:28:49.92\00:28:51.49 which has primarily been... 00:28:51.53\00:28:54.00 I'll use the term loosely reshape 00:28:54.03\00:28:56.70 or pre-shaped forms of metal 00:28:56.77\00:29:00.24 that have already been pre-shaped 00:29:00.27\00:29:02.47 and shipped to different parts of the world. 00:29:02.50\00:29:05.51 Yeah. 00:29:05.54\00:29:07.31 We've done quite a bit of that 00:29:07.38\00:29:09.01 working with Mr. McNeilus out in Minnesota. 00:29:09.04\00:29:12.88 You know, as time goes on 00:29:12.91\00:29:15.32 you learn that there's other issues, 00:29:15.35\00:29:18.39 importing these products are not as easy 00:29:18.42\00:29:21.46 as we had hoped that they would be. 00:29:21.49\00:29:23.43 And so a lot of the places in the world we've gone to, 00:29:23.46\00:29:27.60 same concept, 00:29:27.63\00:29:30.17 the concept being build something 00:29:30.20\00:29:33.13 that will start the product or start the project 00:29:33.17\00:29:36.60 and let the locals finish it up, 00:29:36.64\00:29:37.97 so that you don't have to put too much resource 00:29:38.01\00:29:39.91 into one location. 00:29:39.94\00:29:41.51 And so now in a lot of the countries 00:29:41.54\00:29:44.28 we will work with a local manufacturer 00:29:44.31\00:29:46.92 and sometimes we do at our self 00:29:46.95\00:29:50.29 manufacture the steel our self-depending on the location, 00:29:50.32\00:29:53.25 and we'll put it up there then we don't have to worry 00:29:53.29\00:29:55.16 about bringing in through customs. 00:29:55.19\00:29:56.59 It's... 00:29:56.62\00:29:58.56 They may have the right to bring stuff in free, 00:29:58.59\00:30:01.83 but believe me, they figured out 00:30:01.86\00:30:04.87 how to get the money out of you anyway. 00:30:04.90\00:30:06.50 Oh, yeah. We did a project. 00:30:06.53\00:30:09.17 I remember going there. We came... 00:30:09.20\00:30:10.54 We arrived afterwards 00:30:10.61\00:30:11.94 and we arrived at a particular place. 00:30:11.97\00:30:14.28 And, you know, I had a phone call from Garwin, 00:30:14.31\00:30:16.21 and he said, "Well, we need this kind of tool, 00:30:16.24\00:30:17.71 that kind of tool, these kind of bolts." 00:30:17.75\00:30:19.85 He said, "There're some additional things we need. 00:30:19.88\00:30:21.95 So stop at home depot and bring all these things in." 00:30:21.98\00:30:25.02 When we got there, 00:30:25.05\00:30:26.39 one of the locals at the airport said, 00:30:26.42\00:30:27.76 "One of our luggage is missing." 00:30:27.79\00:30:29.36 And we went to the airport and found that they wanted us 00:30:29.39\00:30:31.56 to pay for that piece of luggage 00:30:31.59\00:30:33.40 with all those power tools in it. 00:30:33.43\00:30:35.83 And thank the Lord, 00:30:35.86\00:30:37.20 we got away with not having to pay for that. 00:30:37.27\00:30:39.20 But that's... that happens sometimes. 00:30:39.23\00:30:40.97 Yeah, so there's, you live and you learn and you adjust. 00:30:41.00\00:30:45.01 Right. You have to constantly do that. 00:30:45.04\00:30:47.51 The world is a changing place. Yes, it is. 00:30:47.58\00:30:49.88 And so each country we end up doing it different. 00:30:49.91\00:30:54.02 That's right. 00:30:54.05\00:30:55.38 We try to get as consistent as we can. 00:30:55.42\00:30:58.52 But every place is different. 00:30:58.55\00:31:01.09 I mean, we just started working 00:31:01.12\00:31:02.46 in the country of CA'te d'Ivoire, 00:31:02.49\00:31:04.53 the French speaking in Africa. 00:31:04.56\00:31:07.60 I didn't bring any pictures on that, 00:31:07.63\00:31:08.96 but we're just starting there. 00:31:09.00\00:31:10.33 But that's a whole different set of rules 00:31:10.37\00:31:11.70 and a whole different type of culture... 00:31:11.73\00:31:13.07 That's right. 00:31:13.10\00:31:14.44 Than most of the places that we worked in the past, 00:31:14.47\00:31:16.24 even though it's in Africa. 00:31:16.27\00:31:17.61 Wow! So it's... 00:31:17.64\00:31:19.54 They don't even have a lot of the same steel 00:31:19.57\00:31:21.61 that they'll have in like Kenya, 00:31:21.64\00:31:23.48 so you have to do it different. 00:31:23.55\00:31:25.25 How many projects do you do a year? 00:31:25.28\00:31:27.42 You know, it depends on the project. 00:31:27.45\00:31:29.48 If you do a one-day project, a simple project, 00:31:29.52\00:31:32.52 you can do a lot of them. 00:31:32.55\00:31:33.89 Whereas if you do some of the big schools, you know, 00:31:33.96\00:31:36.49 that slows down your numbers. 00:31:36.52\00:31:39.03 So we don't think of it so much in terms of numbers, 00:31:39.06\00:31:41.23 but in general, it'll run between 400 and 1,000. 00:31:41.26\00:31:45.67 And the length of time for each project? 00:31:45.70\00:31:48.34 Again, based on how big your project is. 00:31:48.37\00:31:50.21 Okay, yeah, that's true. 00:31:50.24\00:31:52.74 Sometimes they're one day. That's true. 00:31:52.77\00:31:56.64 One of the things... 00:31:56.68\00:31:58.01 One of the great things about the one-day program is, 00:31:58.05\00:32:00.65 it gives us an opportunity to hold maybe 00:32:00.72\00:32:03.32 tight our hands with the church, 00:32:03.39\00:32:04.92 because there're a lot of things 00:32:04.95\00:32:06.32 that the local church people can do 00:32:06.35\00:32:08.26 and they want to do. 00:32:08.29\00:32:09.69 That's right. This is theirs after all. 00:32:09.72\00:32:11.53 That's right. It is theirs. 00:32:11.56\00:32:12.89 So it really help, 00:32:12.93\00:32:14.83 it brings a tighter partnership. 00:32:14.86\00:32:17.27 Yeah. And so that's kind of neat. 00:32:17.30\00:32:18.63 Well, that's what makes it, 00:32:18.67\00:32:20.57 you know, nice for the volunteers too, 00:32:20.64\00:32:22.10 they want that relationship with the locals. 00:32:22.14\00:32:23.81 That's what you take home 00:32:23.84\00:32:25.91 the reality of this mission experience 00:32:25.94\00:32:28.94 by looking in the eyes 00:32:28.98\00:32:31.21 and getting the feedback from the local people. 00:32:31.25\00:32:33.95 It's one thing to watch it on the screen 00:32:34.02\00:32:36.69 and that's good, 00:32:36.72\00:32:38.12 but when you see it yourself, 00:32:38.15\00:32:40.19 there it's transformational we end up with. 00:32:40.26\00:32:42.16 We have so many stories one of those... 00:32:42.19\00:32:43.96 One of the... On the Maranatha. 00:32:44.03\00:32:45.36 The rock quarry in Zambia. 00:32:45.39\00:32:47.10 Rock quarry, oh, yeah. We went to the rock quarry. 00:32:47.13\00:32:48.73 That trip transformed our lives. 00:32:48.76\00:32:50.77 It really shook us to the core to let us know 00:32:50.80\00:32:53.00 that here in America, we are so blessed. 00:32:53.03\00:32:55.07 We're considered and I'm saying this loosely 00:32:55.10\00:32:57.21 by no means this is true materialistically. 00:32:57.24\00:32:59.87 We're considered very wealthy here in America 00:32:59.91\00:33:01.78 compared to some of the places we've been. 00:33:01.81\00:33:03.88 And we met that elder and his wife. 00:33:03.95\00:33:05.58 Yes. 00:33:05.61\00:33:06.95 And we looked, I said, well, he's about my size 00:33:07.02\00:33:08.92 and his wife was about my wife size. 00:33:08.95\00:33:11.05 And I gave him a pair of shoes. 00:33:11.09\00:33:15.69 And the man began to cry. 00:33:15.72\00:33:17.53 I said, "What happened?" 00:33:17.56\00:33:18.89 He said, "This is the first pair of shoes 00:33:18.93\00:33:20.50 I have ever owned." 00:33:20.53\00:33:21.86 Is that Pata. He calls it Pata. 00:33:21.90\00:33:23.23 Yeah, a Bata. Is it Bata? 00:33:23.26\00:33:25.17 Yeah, and he says, "Are you kidding me?" 00:33:25.20\00:33:27.37 I said the first pair of shoes 00:33:27.44\00:33:28.77 and as we went back to our hotel room 00:33:28.80\00:33:30.31 and just started to cry. 00:33:30.34\00:33:31.67 We said, Lord, what's wrong with us? 00:33:31.71\00:33:33.04 And my wife gave... 00:33:33.07\00:33:34.44 What did you gave, skirt? 00:33:34.48\00:33:35.81 Oh, I gave half my luggage, half my clothes I gave away. 00:33:35.84\00:33:39.65 I bought some pants 00:33:39.68\00:33:41.02 because it's our first trip you say, 00:33:41.05\00:33:42.38 we're going into the outback, 00:33:42.42\00:33:43.79 you know, it's gonna be get some nice rugged, 00:33:43.82\00:33:45.69 get some nice rugged shoes, 00:33:45.72\00:33:47.66 we ended up giving him the shoes, 00:33:47.69\00:33:49.56 giving him the pants, giving him the shirt. 00:33:49.59\00:33:52.19 And then we went to and that fired my wife up 00:33:52.23\00:33:55.66 for the next trip to Zimbabwe, 00:33:55.70\00:33:57.07 because we saw the school built 00:33:57.10\00:33:59.03 and even there that same couple, 00:33:59.07\00:34:00.94 there was one... 00:34:00.97\00:34:02.50 They had three children and two of them. 00:34:02.54\00:34:04.51 We kept seeing, we said, "Where's the other son?" 00:34:04.54\00:34:06.78 You remember that story... 00:34:06.81\00:34:08.14 He's in the rock quarry, breaking rocks. 00:34:08.18\00:34:11.55 I said, "What's he doing that for?" 00:34:11.58\00:34:12.91 Yeah. And. 00:34:12.95\00:34:14.38 And it was for his school tuition. 00:34:14.42\00:34:17.02 But I was able to, Lord blessed me 00:34:17.09\00:34:19.25 to raise money to help at our church 00:34:19.29\00:34:23.19 and on Facebook, 00:34:23.22\00:34:24.56 whoever wanted to help in Zambia 00:34:24.59\00:34:27.63 to help children go to school and be able to raise money 00:34:27.66\00:34:31.10 and that young boy. 00:34:31.13\00:34:32.87 Oh, yeah. I said, "Where's your son?" 00:34:32.90\00:34:34.24 He said, "He's in rock quarry." 00:34:34.27\00:34:35.60 I said, "How much is his tuition?" 00:34:35.64\00:34:37.01 They told us, we said, we looked at each other 00:34:37.04\00:34:38.37 we know what we have to do. 00:34:38.41\00:34:39.74 Yeah, we can do that. It's like $100. 00:34:39.77\00:34:41.11 Go get your son, he's going to school. 00:34:41.14\00:34:42.48 We're gonna pay his tuition for this year. 00:34:42.51\00:34:43.85 Yeah, multiply what you experienced 00:34:43.88\00:34:45.38 by all the thousands of volunteers 00:34:45.41\00:34:47.35 that go out there, they experience the same thing. 00:34:47.42\00:34:50.02 So their hearts touched and soften the Holy Spirit 00:34:50.09\00:34:53.76 as be generous. 00:34:53.79\00:34:55.12 Exactly. God's generous. 00:34:55.16\00:34:56.49 Amen. He wants us to be generous. 00:34:56.52\00:34:57.93 And so that's something that happens. 00:34:57.96\00:35:01.13 It's a nice result in couple's lives. 00:35:01.16\00:35:04.40 And I always go with things. 00:35:04.43\00:35:06.84 I always go with some old clothes that we have. 00:35:06.87\00:35:08.20 Ever since then. 00:35:08.24\00:35:09.57 Yeah, I bring clothes from children, 00:35:09.60\00:35:11.54 from our churches to give me your clothes. 00:35:11.57\00:35:13.48 There're kids there that need the clothes. 00:35:13.51\00:35:15.28 I go to the Dollar Store, 00:35:15.31\00:35:16.64 I buy balloons and little toys and things. 00:35:16.68\00:35:19.01 So my suitcase is stuffed with things to give away. 00:35:19.05\00:35:22.42 I know, I'm gonna go to the next story 00:35:22.45\00:35:23.79 that's really, really close to Peter here. 00:35:23.82\00:35:25.99 I want to show this picture in Kenya. 00:35:26.02\00:35:28.99 And I want you to describe 00:35:29.02\00:35:30.36 because I know this is very near and dear to you. 00:35:30.43\00:35:32.43 Let's bring up this picture of that 00:35:32.46\00:35:34.43 wonderful crowd of people there in Kenya. 00:35:34.46\00:35:36.53 And tell us what's in the background 00:35:36.56\00:35:37.90 and tell us what this project is all about here? 00:35:37.93\00:35:39.70 Well, this is the One-Day Church that we build in Kenya. 00:35:39.73\00:35:43.04 And typically we build it in less than one day. 00:35:43.07\00:35:46.71 So we have crews that go around 00:35:46.78\00:35:48.68 and the beautiful part about One-Day Churches, 00:35:48.71\00:35:50.75 we build them in some very remote locations. 00:35:50.78\00:35:54.25 I mean, these can be hours and hours 00:35:54.32\00:35:56.28 from even any significant road. 00:35:56.32\00:35:59.59 Our crew shows up out there 00:35:59.62\00:36:01.69 and of course the villagers once they see they're there, 00:36:01.72\00:36:03.83 they congregate around and they watch them 00:36:03.86\00:36:05.53 build a structure in a day. 00:36:05.56\00:36:07.83 And then the next Sabbath, 00:36:07.86\00:36:09.66 they get to worship in that structure. 00:36:09.70\00:36:11.30 And if you've ever actually watched that happen... 00:36:11.33\00:36:14.67 The transformation of not only the local people, 00:36:14.70\00:36:18.91 but the people that were there to build 00:36:18.94\00:36:20.38 that church is just amazing, 00:36:20.41\00:36:21.78 because here we are in one day they have and as Don has said, 00:36:21.81\00:36:25.45 that's usually the nicest structure in the village. 00:36:25.48\00:36:28.45 And that particular part of northern Kenya, 00:36:28.48\00:36:30.89 while the pictures are a little deceiving 00:36:30.92\00:36:32.32 that's in the middle of the rainy season, 00:36:32.35\00:36:34.52 nine months out of the year, that's a barren desert. 00:36:34.56\00:36:37.96 And so we're now able to also put a well on those locations 00:36:37.99\00:36:41.70 with that church. 00:36:41.73\00:36:43.16 So you can imagine the instant transformation 00:36:43.20\00:36:45.50 that takes place in those people's lives. 00:36:45.53\00:36:48.67 People that walk hours and hours every day 00:36:48.70\00:36:50.84 for water each day now have a well at the church, 00:36:50.91\00:36:55.04 so it becomes the congregation 00:36:55.08\00:36:57.18 or the gathering point for the congregation 00:36:57.25\00:36:59.05 and the entire village. 00:36:59.08\00:37:00.42 Not only the bread of life, but the living water. 00:37:00.45\00:37:02.12 That's right. Wow! Wow! 00:37:02.15\00:37:04.19 I used to think that... Oh, go ahead. 00:37:04.22\00:37:05.72 We're told many, many times in the Bible 00:37:05.75\00:37:07.99 that we're to preach the gospel to all the world, 00:37:08.02\00:37:10.13 what that means these remote locations. 00:37:10.16\00:37:13.23 And being able to see that up close in personal 00:37:13.26\00:37:15.56 you go to places that, 00:37:15.60\00:37:17.00 that nobody's ever heard of 00:37:17.07\00:37:18.73 and you transform those people's lives 00:37:18.77\00:37:20.74 is truly amazing. 00:37:20.77\00:37:22.37 Wow! Wow! Life transformation. 00:37:22.40\00:37:24.34 And that is, I mean this... It changes you, doesn't it? 00:37:24.37\00:37:26.91 Yeah, absolutely. Yeah. 00:37:26.98\00:37:28.44 There's so many experiences just diving through my mind 00:37:28.48\00:37:31.41 about going out, as you said, we go for one reason, 00:37:31.45\00:37:35.15 but the Lord transfers that reason it to His mission. 00:37:35.18\00:37:39.22 He's got a bigger view. He says, I know... 00:37:39.25\00:37:41.22 He said, "You think you're going 00:37:41.26\00:37:42.59 to just enjoy your time at Maranatha? 00:37:42.62\00:37:44.33 I have some people that you are gonna meet and help." 00:37:44.36\00:37:46.70 Amen. And on that... 00:37:46.73\00:37:48.70 On the Zimbabwe trip 00:37:48.73\00:37:51.07 was when Angie raised money for kids to come to the school. 00:37:51.10\00:37:54.67 It was amazing as all those school buildings 00:37:54.70\00:37:56.50 began to go up, we saw the local police, 00:37:56.54\00:37:59.01 we thought is there something wrong. 00:37:59.04\00:38:00.38 Oh, yes, yes. 00:38:00.41\00:38:01.74 Something going on, so I walk over to the officers, 00:38:01.78\00:38:03.11 they were about seven of them in their uniforms. 00:38:03.14\00:38:04.61 I said, "Is there something wrong, officer." 00:38:04.65\00:38:06.31 He said, "No, we have come to see 00:38:06.35\00:38:09.32 how much it costs to enroll our children in your school." 00:38:09.35\00:38:11.62 Alrighty, there you go. 00:38:11.65\00:38:13.36 It was so beautiful. Yeah. 00:38:13.39\00:38:14.72 And then follow that up 00:38:14.76\00:38:16.09 with a beautiful evangelistic series with Mark Finley. 00:38:16.12\00:38:18.86 So it's not just building projects, 00:38:18.89\00:38:21.33 but it's reaching out and planting the gospel. 00:38:21.36\00:38:23.26 Yeah, it really is. Yeah. 00:38:23.30\00:38:25.57 Let's go to this next photo. 00:38:25.60\00:38:27.27 This is a picture of a large school 00:38:27.34\00:38:29.30 and you'll tell us where it is? 00:38:29.34\00:38:31.91 This is in India, a place called Khunti, India. 00:38:31.94\00:38:35.24 This is a school of about 1,400 students in total. 00:38:35.28\00:38:41.28 This is the elementary section. 00:38:41.32\00:38:42.95 They had really deteriorating classrooms 00:38:42.98\00:38:47.82 and they asked us to help them 00:38:47.86\00:38:49.26 and this particular building is what we call an Education 00:38:49.29\00:38:52.36 and Evangelism Center. 00:38:52.39\00:38:54.20 In India, we can't use the word evangelism, 00:38:54.23\00:38:56.06 but it's... 00:38:56.10\00:38:58.40 That's what it is. 00:38:58.43\00:38:59.77 It does more than just be a school. 00:38:59.80\00:39:02.30 But that particular school was built in the memory 00:39:02.34\00:39:06.71 of one of our board member's wife 00:39:06.78\00:39:08.34 who passed away, Sue Kruger. 00:39:08.38\00:39:11.05 And it opened with 650 students. 00:39:11.08\00:39:14.42 Opened? 00:39:14.45\00:39:16.05 So right off the bat, so that's a big impact project 00:39:16.08\00:39:19.55 and had a lot of volunteers go and experience it. 00:39:19.59\00:39:23.73 Those big schools, we've done 115 of those now, 00:39:23.76\00:39:27.03 I think, in different parts of the world. 00:39:27.10\00:39:29.63 And they are so transformational. 00:39:29.66\00:39:32.47 They make a big impact on a community. 00:39:32.50\00:39:35.24 So you know, you were mentioning the police 00:39:35.27\00:39:38.21 that were going to send their kids to the school. 00:39:38.24\00:39:40.68 So one of the great things about Adventist education 00:39:40.71\00:39:43.21 that some people might know, not know is that 00:39:43.24\00:39:46.21 it is the second largest private educational system 00:39:46.25\00:39:50.19 in the world. 00:39:50.22\00:39:52.09 And people bring their kids there every day. 00:39:52.12\00:39:58.76 So family that may 00:39:58.79\00:40:00.90 or may not be an Adventist Christian family, 00:40:00.93\00:40:03.67 they're bringing their kids there every day. 00:40:03.70\00:40:06.43 And they're beginning relationships 00:40:06.47\00:40:08.34 with other Christian families and they, they find a home. 00:40:08.37\00:40:12.54 And I can't tell you how many stories I've heard, 00:40:12.57\00:40:14.64 maybe you have heard too. 00:40:14.68\00:40:16.95 By the time that kid like some boy 00:40:16.98\00:40:20.15 starts at 11 years old, 00:40:20.22\00:40:21.75 they find the school they put him in, 00:40:21.78\00:40:23.39 you know, by the time he's 17, 00:40:23.42\00:40:26.12 I remember the mom and the grandmother saying, 00:40:26.15\00:40:28.92 "He just completely changed." 00:40:28.96\00:40:30.93 And he gave his life to Christ. 00:40:30.96\00:40:32.56 And now, the family 00:40:32.59\00:40:34.63 and the grandparents have also become 00:40:34.66\00:40:37.60 Seventh-day Adventist Christians. 00:40:37.63\00:40:39.33 Because of the school, 00:40:39.37\00:40:40.84 so the school is really this long term, 00:40:40.87\00:40:44.04 day by day and like evangelistic tool 00:40:44.11\00:40:48.31 that God is using, 00:40:48.34\00:40:49.91 using relationships, using learning about the Bible, 00:40:49.94\00:40:52.75 using learning about how to build 00:40:52.78\00:40:54.78 and maintain a Christian life. 00:40:54.82\00:40:56.48 You know, so the schools are fantastic. 00:40:56.52\00:40:58.75 It's the gospel in action. 00:40:58.79\00:41:00.16 It is the gospel. Yes. 00:41:00.19\00:41:01.52 And it's not just a quick fix, but it's a transformational, 00:41:01.56\00:41:04.13 not just for the children. 00:41:04.16\00:41:05.49 Because you had an experience, remember, 00:41:05.53\00:41:06.86 there's a boy that kept hanging around the site 00:41:06.90\00:41:08.70 there in Zimbabwe and you say, 00:41:08.73\00:41:10.07 "Are you in school?" He said, "No." 00:41:10.10\00:41:12.23 And you said, "Well, where's your parents?" 00:41:12.27\00:41:13.84 He said, "They passed away." 00:41:13.87\00:41:15.27 "So where do you live with?" 00:41:15.30\00:41:16.64 With my older brother." 00:41:16.71\00:41:18.04 "Well, are you in school?" "No." 00:41:18.07\00:41:19.74 "When was the last time you went to school?" 00:41:19.77\00:41:21.54 "Three years ago." "Why?" 00:41:21.58\00:41:23.45 Say, "I can't afford it." I can't afford it. 00:41:23.48\00:41:25.15 My wife said, "You're going to school." 00:41:25.18\00:41:26.55 Yeah. And... 00:41:26.58\00:41:27.92 We had sponsorship and funds. 00:41:27.95\00:41:29.65 And we said, "Come, you're in school." 00:41:29.68\00:41:32.15 And she sat there in the register's office... 00:41:32.19\00:41:33.96 I have him some clothes. Him clothes. 00:41:33.99\00:41:35.32 She said, "Sign him up, he's going to school." 00:41:35.36\00:41:37.26 Yeah. And that is it. 00:41:37.33\00:41:38.66 We leave with this like, "Don, we need to go again." 00:41:38.69\00:41:43.10 Because there's so many more lives 00:41:43.13\00:41:44.47 that we want to touch. 00:41:44.50\00:41:45.83 There're plenty of opportunities. 00:41:45.87\00:41:47.24 Plenty of opportunities. 00:41:47.27\00:41:48.60 Look on the inside of this building. 00:41:48.64\00:41:49.97 Now, what you... 00:41:50.01\00:41:51.34 Did you, I know, as a builder, 00:41:51.37\00:41:52.71 that's a huge building, Peter, that one. 00:41:52.74\00:41:54.08 Can we show that picture one more time. 00:41:54.11\00:41:55.44 I want to see the outside of that 00:41:55.48\00:41:56.81 and then we're gonna look at the inside. 00:41:56.85\00:41:58.18 That's a structure that was built by Maranatha. 00:41:58.21\00:42:00.65 See, so it's not just a One-Day Church, 00:42:00.72\00:42:02.35 not just sometimes a smaller church, 00:42:02.38\00:42:03.72 that's a huge structure. 00:42:03.79\00:42:05.22 It functions as a church in the center section 00:42:05.25\00:42:07.56 and there're classrooms on the outside edge, 00:42:07.59\00:42:09.16 it's the way it's designed. 00:42:09.19\00:42:10.86 So that there's a big auditorium 00:42:10.93\00:42:13.33 as well as your classroom, so it's multi use. 00:42:13.40\00:42:16.26 We have a picture on the inside. 00:42:16.30\00:42:17.90 Let's look at a picture from the inside. 00:42:17.93\00:42:19.27 You can see that there's a big auditorium on the inside. 00:42:19.30\00:42:21.90 It also could be a gymnasium, and then you have classrooms 00:42:21.94\00:42:24.47 all along the outside of that hall basically. 00:42:24.51\00:42:29.51 But, you know, they pack them in. 00:42:29.54\00:42:32.05 Look at the windows, that's nice. 00:42:32.08\00:42:33.82 You got air and natural light in. 00:42:33.85\00:42:36.55 And that's not a one-day project. 00:42:36.58\00:42:38.05 No. No. 00:42:38.09\00:42:39.95 Not even close. 00:42:39.99\00:42:41.89 How long does someone take to build, Pete? 00:42:41.92\00:42:43.83 Well, that's a multiple trip project. 00:42:43.86\00:42:46.80 I don't remember in Khunti, 00:42:46.83\00:42:48.16 but I'm guessing there were probably four different 00:42:48.20\00:42:51.20 Maranatha trips there to construct that building 00:42:51.23\00:42:54.44 along with the local Maranatha employees. 00:42:54.47\00:42:57.24 Okay. 00:42:57.31\00:42:58.64 So, those take quite a long time 00:42:58.67\00:43:00.01 as you can see by how big the structure is. 00:43:00.04\00:43:02.18 But as Don has mentioned, 00:43:02.21\00:43:03.88 the impact is dramatic in that town 00:43:03.95\00:43:06.01 or that city where they build it. 00:43:06.05\00:43:07.42 Because we get so many students there 00:43:07.45\00:43:10.02 and it's such a good looking building 00:43:10.09\00:43:11.59 and the quality structure. 00:43:11.62\00:43:13.59 In fact, we had one of those built 00:43:13.66\00:43:15.46 on the island of Dominica. 00:43:15.49\00:43:16.83 Don, if you remember and it survived the hurricane. 00:43:16.86\00:43:19.13 It did. Yeah, it did. 00:43:19.16\00:43:20.60 So yeah, they're very, very nice buildings. 00:43:20.63\00:43:23.77 Wow! That's... 00:43:23.80\00:43:25.23 Our church in Fairfield, California, 00:43:25.27\00:43:28.10 was built by Maranatha builders. 00:43:28.14\00:43:29.47 Yes, it was. 00:43:29.50\00:43:30.84 I remember that very well. It sure was. 00:43:30.91\00:43:32.24 When I was pastoring, I said, "Who build this church?" 00:43:32.27\00:43:33.68 Maranatha builders. 00:43:33.71\00:43:35.08 Maranatha builders, so you do local you wanna do. 00:43:35.11\00:43:36.95 Yeah, we do a lot of projects in the United States, 00:43:36.98\00:43:38.88 believe it or not. 00:43:38.91\00:43:40.25 We have a video that I want to... 00:43:40.32\00:43:42.12 It's a Kajiado. Kajiado. 00:43:42.15\00:43:46.19 I wrote it down phonetically 00:43:46.22\00:43:47.56 and I still couldn't pronounce it. 00:43:47.59\00:43:49.22 Tell us about that before we will look at this video? 00:43:49.26\00:43:51.69 Kajiado is a special project. 00:43:51.73\00:43:55.03 It's a girls' rescue center. Okay. 00:43:55.06\00:43:58.23 It's about an hour or so from Nairobi, Kenya. 00:43:58.27\00:44:01.44 Oh, wow! 00:44:01.47\00:44:02.80 And it was established as a place 00:44:02.84\00:44:04.84 as a rescue for girls 00:44:04.87\00:44:06.61 who are going through the FGM and early child marriage issues 00:44:06.68\00:44:11.88 that they sometimes have in the Masai villages 00:44:11.91\00:44:15.75 there in Kenya. 00:44:15.78\00:44:17.59 And so it gets your heart. 00:44:17.62\00:44:19.52 These girls have gone through stuff you can't even imagine. 00:44:19.55\00:44:22.49 And so this rescue center was built, 00:44:22.52\00:44:24.86 but they desperately needed more facilities, 00:44:24.89\00:44:28.43 they needed water. 00:44:28.46\00:44:30.17 And so we were lucky enough 00:44:30.20\00:44:31.97 to be able to get involved in it 00:44:32.00\00:44:33.54 and start helping. 00:44:33.57\00:44:34.90 It's just the beginning of the project for us. 00:44:34.94\00:44:36.34 We've done some. 00:44:36.37\00:44:38.44 I think we brought a short video... 00:44:38.47\00:44:39.81 A video, yeah. It might be good to... 00:44:39.84\00:44:41.44 Let's look at that video right now 00:44:41.48\00:44:42.81 about this project. 00:44:42.84\00:44:44.18 God, we want to thank You for the visitors 00:44:50.89\00:44:52.55 and Father give them genuine mercies 00:44:52.59\00:44:55.22 until they have reached here. 00:44:55.26\00:44:56.59 Well, Father, we honor You and glorify Your name 00:44:56.62\00:44:58.29 because of that Father. 00:44:58.33\00:44:59.79 And even as we're waiting for them in eager, 00:44:59.83\00:45:01.93 Father, You've helped us and we have met with them 00:45:01.96\00:45:04.17 and find out that they are okay, Father. 00:45:04.20\00:45:06.53 We lift up Your name and glorify Your name. 00:45:06.57\00:45:08.20 Amen. Amen. 00:45:08.24\00:45:09.57 Father in Jesus' name, we want to thank You 00:45:09.60\00:45:11.14 because of this power that You have given us. 00:45:11.17\00:45:14.31 Thank You for giving us an opportunity 00:45:14.34\00:45:16.58 to stand here together and hold our hands 00:45:16.61\00:45:19.25 to witness the miracle that You're about to do. 00:45:19.28\00:45:21.72 Yes. 00:45:21.75\00:45:23.08 That's an amazing video. Wow! Powerful. 00:47:02.65\00:47:04.82 When you look at what happened there. 00:47:04.85\00:47:06.19 But I want Don to explain 00:47:06.22\00:47:07.56 why this water was so important? 00:47:07.59\00:47:09.49 Well, this rescue center is in area of Kenya 00:47:09.52\00:47:12.13 that's extremely dry. 00:47:12.16\00:47:14.30 And everybody knows that they didn't have water there. 00:47:14.33\00:47:17.50 They had drilled a well before 00:47:17.57\00:47:18.90 but they were getting like nothing out of it. 00:47:18.93\00:47:20.94 Most of the people in that area 00:47:20.97\00:47:22.30 get their water off a water truck, they buy it, 00:47:22.34\00:47:24.21 and the schools having to do that too 00:47:24.24\00:47:26.11 in order to have any water at all. 00:47:26.14\00:47:27.88 And the girls, of course, 00:47:27.91\00:47:29.34 the restroom facilities are terrible, 00:47:29.38\00:47:30.75 they never took a shower. 00:47:30.78\00:47:33.35 And that needed to be improved in order for us to expand that 00:47:33.42\00:47:37.39 that rescue center to allow more girls to come in. 00:47:37.42\00:47:40.99 So this whole thing of drilling a water well was critical, 00:47:41.02\00:47:45.46 but we actually had hydrogeologist 00:47:45.49\00:47:48.43 look at this and they said, "Don't bother. 00:47:48.46\00:47:50.77 You're not gonna hit any water here. 00:47:50.80\00:47:52.30 Wow! 00:47:52.33\00:47:53.67 "There's nothing that indicates 00:47:53.74\00:47:55.07 that there'll be any water down there. 00:47:55.10\00:47:56.44 So you can drill if you want, but don't expect to get water." 00:47:56.47\00:47:59.71 So these girls started praying. 00:47:59.74\00:48:02.54 These girls at the rescue center, 00:48:02.58\00:48:04.15 they were getting together. 00:48:04.18\00:48:05.51 It was two or three times a day for a couple of months. 00:48:05.55\00:48:08.25 Yeah. For several months. What? 00:48:08.28\00:48:09.85 And they were praying that and when it came time 00:48:09.88\00:48:12.02 and we brought our well drilling equipment in there, 00:48:12.05\00:48:16.29 they were expecting water. 00:48:16.32\00:48:18.89 I mean, so when they started drilling, 00:48:18.93\00:48:21.83 we were there 00:48:21.86\00:48:23.70 and within less than two meters, 00:48:23.77\00:48:25.80 they hit solid granite. 00:48:25.83\00:48:27.80 So they go through granted all the way down. 00:48:27.84\00:48:29.57 Well, there's water come out of a rock. 00:48:29.60\00:48:33.78 Can water come out of a rock? 00:48:33.81\00:48:36.38 So they're drilling the first day 00:48:36.41\00:48:37.88 they went down about 60 meters? 00:48:37.91\00:48:40.02 Nothing. 00:48:40.05\00:48:41.38 And the next day, the driller at 87 meters was saying, 00:48:41.42\00:48:44.72 "Yes, I've seen a little moisture here, 00:48:44.75\00:48:46.79 what's going on?" 00:48:46.86\00:48:48.19 So basically at about 100 meters 00:48:48.22\00:48:50.23 they had a gusher. 00:48:50.26\00:48:51.59 Wow! It was an absolute miracle. 00:48:51.63\00:48:54.13 And let me just tell you, everybody in town 00:48:54.20\00:48:56.33 because that area is so dry. 00:48:56.36\00:49:00.27 Everybody would like to have that water. 00:49:00.34\00:49:02.07 So everybody and it's right on the road 00:49:02.10\00:49:04.74 like this well is right on the road, 00:49:04.77\00:49:06.98 so everybody that goes by they're like, 00:49:07.01\00:49:09.24 "What in the world?" 00:49:09.28\00:49:11.08 There is no water down there. 00:49:11.11\00:49:12.45 How in the world, I mean, it is a miracle 00:49:12.48\00:49:14.75 and it's a clear miracle. 00:49:14.78\00:49:16.28 And I felt like, you know, 00:49:16.32\00:49:17.65 we wanted to expand that school, 00:49:17.69\00:49:19.02 but you can't do it in good conscience 00:49:19.05\00:49:21.56 with no water. 00:49:21.59\00:49:22.92 That's right, it's a life project. 00:49:22.96\00:49:24.33 You're just creating something that will die 00:49:24.36\00:49:25.69 because you have to have water to live. 00:49:25.73\00:49:27.33 So we're putting plans together 00:49:27.40\00:49:28.73 to do not only their elementary school there, 00:49:28.76\00:49:30.57 but to expand it to a secondary school. 00:49:30.60\00:49:32.67 Okay. These girls need that too. 00:49:32.70\00:49:35.00 So it's a big project, 00:49:35.04\00:49:36.37 come a lot of opportunities for people to go to Kenya 00:49:36.40\00:49:38.67 and actually talk to these girls. 00:49:38.71\00:49:40.68 It's life changing. 00:49:40.71\00:49:42.04 Yeah, the girls have a very good story. 00:49:42.08\00:49:43.65 We don't have time to tell it here now, 00:49:43.68\00:49:45.88 but I did feel like that water was a sign from God 00:49:45.91\00:49:49.35 as the God was saying, 00:49:49.38\00:49:50.72 "These girls have had enough." Amen. 00:49:50.79\00:49:52.95 They have had enough. Amen. 00:49:52.99\00:49:54.69 And we're gonna have a place that's safe and good, 00:49:54.72\00:49:57.53 and we'll launch them into a much better life ahead. 00:49:57.56\00:50:00.20 That's beautiful. 00:50:00.23\00:50:01.56 I don't know if you could do it, 00:50:01.60\00:50:02.93 but in about a minute and a half 00:50:02.96\00:50:04.30 tell us about the donorship 00:50:04.33\00:50:05.67 and how that makes a difference with Maranatha? 00:50:05.70\00:50:07.04 Well, as you know, I mean, 00:50:07.07\00:50:08.94 we basically run on donations 00:50:08.97\00:50:12.37 and the generosity of people 00:50:12.41\00:50:14.61 and the Holy Spirit talking to people's hearts. 00:50:14.64\00:50:18.18 So all these buildings, all the wells, 00:50:18.21\00:50:21.48 they are all gifts from people who care. 00:50:21.52\00:50:25.75 And I believe it is the Holy Spirit 00:50:25.79\00:50:27.99 that taps on that person and says, 00:50:28.02\00:50:30.66 "I have a project for you." 00:50:30.73\00:50:32.76 And, you know, we definitely don't want to push anybody, 00:50:32.79\00:50:35.76 but I know that there are people out there 00:50:35.80\00:50:37.57 that the Holy Spirit is speaking too. 00:50:37.60\00:50:40.54 And there are people that are the receivers of that, 00:50:40.57\00:50:43.84 that are praying 00:50:43.91\00:50:46.37 for an advancement of some project. 00:50:46.41\00:50:49.24 And we are dependent on that. 00:50:49.28\00:50:50.85 We are the middleman. 00:50:50.88\00:50:53.28 We are what I call pass through, 00:50:53.31\00:50:54.85 we are a pass through. 00:50:54.88\00:50:56.22 You know, but we see this 00:50:56.25\00:50:57.95 and we hope for that and we put them together, 00:50:57.99\00:51:00.06 and make that project happen. 00:51:00.09\00:51:02.19 And you know, we do answer to a donor, 00:51:02.22\00:51:04.69 I mean, we, like, 00:51:04.73\00:51:07.33 if you give a gift for a project, 00:51:07.40\00:51:09.16 we invite you to go work on it, 00:51:09.20\00:51:12.33 at least go see it, 00:51:12.37\00:51:13.84 if nothing else we'll send you a picture. 00:51:13.87\00:51:15.94 You know, we want you to know like, 00:51:15.97\00:51:17.71 this is a transparent ministry, 00:51:17.74\00:51:19.31 it's transparent as it would be. 00:51:19.34\00:51:21.51 And we're trying to be as efficient as we can be. 00:51:21.54\00:51:24.78 This is God's work, so if a person is feeling, 00:51:24.81\00:51:30.89 the tap, tap, tap of the Holy Spirit respond, 00:51:30.92\00:51:32.99 there's nothing higher or better, 00:51:33.02\00:51:35.29 and that dollar you'll see the result of it 00:51:35.32\00:51:38.03 10,000 years from now, 00:51:38.06\00:51:39.86 it's still gonna be working. 00:51:39.89\00:51:42.36 In the lives of eternity, 00:51:42.40\00:51:43.87 we're gonna take a short break right here, 00:51:43.90\00:51:45.23 but on the other side after this news break 00:51:45.27\00:51:47.07 and the address role 00:51:47.14\00:51:48.47 to get in touch with Maranatha Ministries. 00:51:48.50\00:51:50.54 We'll come back for a few closing thoughts. 00:51:50.61\00:51:52.87 If you feel impressed to help and support 00:51:56.28\00:51:58.38 the worldwide ministry of Maranatha, 00:51:58.41\00:52:00.15 you can do so on a variety of ways. 00:52:00.22\00:52:02.25 You can visit their website at www.
