00:07:55.40\00:07:57.91 I didn't. 00:07:57.94\00:07:59.27 No, I grew up in a Catholic home. 00:07:59.31\00:08:00.68 Okay. 00:08:00.71\00:08:02.04 Yeah, my family would go to church on holidays, 00:08:02.08\00:08:05.18 you know, Christmas, Easter, 00:08:05.21\00:08:07.52 but I didn't really believe or anything, 00:08:07.55\00:08:09.45 I just kind of went with emotions 00:08:09.48\00:08:10.82 with my family, yeah. 00:08:10.89\00:08:12.22 So how did you then discover the Lord? 00:08:12.25\00:08:14.59 You know, I was going through a downtime, 00:08:14.62\00:08:16.73 I was feeling depressed. 00:08:16.76\00:08:18.09 And I tried so many other things to, 00:08:18.13\00:08:20.30 kind of, numb that. 00:08:20.33\00:08:22.60 But all of a sudden, 00:08:22.63\00:08:24.00 you know, I opened the Bible, 00:08:24.07\00:08:25.40 someone had bought me a Bible the prior Christmas. 00:08:25.43\00:08:27.24 I opened it, 00:08:27.27\00:08:28.60 I flipped through and the words in red caught my attention. 00:08:28.64\00:08:31.04 Started reading the Sermon on the Mount, and... 00:08:31.07\00:08:32.41 Praise the Lord. 00:08:32.44\00:08:33.78 I started to feel a comfort I had never felt before. 00:08:33.81\00:08:36.31 You know, and from there, you know, the rest is history. 00:08:36.34\00:08:39.35 I continued to grow from that point. 00:08:39.38\00:08:42.68 Did you study your way into the church? 00:08:42.72\00:08:45.32 Did you study with people? 00:08:45.35\00:08:46.69 How did you... 00:08:46.76\00:08:48.09 Yeah. 00:08:48.12\00:08:49.46 So actually, I was reading... 00:08:49.49\00:08:51.03 I remember I started with reading the common stories 00:08:51.06\00:08:53.80 I heard about like, "Oh, David and Goliath, 00:08:53.83\00:08:56.10 let me read David's whole story," you know? 00:08:56.13\00:08:58.63 Adam and Eve, so I started reading, 00:08:58.67\00:09:00.04 but then there was... 00:09:00.07\00:09:01.40 I came to certain parts that I didn't understand, 00:09:01.44\00:09:02.90 so I called up three groups of friends of mine. 00:09:02.94\00:09:05.67 Two of the groups were Adventists, 00:09:05.71\00:09:07.48 one of the groups were non-denominational. 00:09:07.51\00:09:10.65 So I learned from both groups, 00:09:10.68\00:09:13.52 but the Adventist's truth, 00:09:13.55\00:09:16.69 it just made so much more sense to me, you know? 00:09:16.72\00:09:18.92 And I realized that that was the Bible truth. 00:09:18.95\00:09:23.16 And so from there, 00:09:23.19\00:09:24.53 I continued to study and I was baptized maybe, 00:09:24.56\00:09:28.50 what, three months after I started studying the Bible. 00:09:28.53\00:09:30.77 Praise God. 00:09:30.80\00:09:32.13 You know, I didn't grow up in an Adventist home either. 00:09:32.17\00:09:36.04 I thought I was a Christian. 00:09:36.07\00:09:37.67 That's questionable, maybe. 00:09:37.71\00:09:39.97 But what happened 00:09:40.01\00:09:41.94 is when I really got into deep study, 00:09:41.98\00:09:43.88 letting the Lord lead me, 00:09:43.95\00:09:45.38 I found so many things 00:09:45.41\00:09:47.52 that I had never noticed before. 00:09:47.55\00:09:49.18 And then I found out the Adventist church 00:09:49.22\00:09:50.99 taught all of these things. 00:09:51.02\00:09:52.62 And that's what brought me... 00:09:52.65\00:09:54.06 You know, the reason 00:09:54.09\00:09:55.42 I'm a Seventh-day Adventist Christian 00:09:55.46\00:09:56.83 is because I believe this church 00:09:56.86\00:09:59.53 teaches more Bible truths than any other. 00:09:59.56\00:10:01.80 And I always say, 00:10:01.83\00:10:03.16 "If I found one that taught more, 00:10:03.20\00:10:04.83 I would go to it, right?" Right, yeah. 00:10:04.87\00:10:06.20 Yeah. 00:10:06.23\00:10:07.57 I'm with you. Okay, Lo-Ammi. 00:10:07.64\00:10:09.00 Yes. Tell us about your story. 00:10:09.04\00:10:11.04 Well, actually, the quite opposite. 00:10:11.07\00:10:12.41 I just grew up in Adventist Church, 00:10:12.44\00:10:14.18 in an Adventist home. 00:10:14.21\00:10:15.54 So my mother and my father were both Adventists and, 00:10:15.58\00:10:17.65 you know, I knew what it meant to go to church 00:10:17.68\00:10:19.05 seven days of the week. 00:10:19.08\00:10:20.42 I went to the home church there and the Pathfinders, 00:10:20.45\00:10:22.62 and if you've ever been to a black church, 00:10:22.65\00:10:23.99 it's all day events. 00:10:24.02\00:10:25.35 So, you know, AY, and socials, and everything else in between. 00:10:25.39\00:10:27.89 And what does AY stand for? 00:10:27.92\00:10:29.29 Adventist Youth. Okay. 00:10:29.32\00:10:30.66 So it's actually a program in the afternoon, 00:10:30.73\00:10:32.83 Sabbath afternoon directly, 00:10:32.86\00:10:34.43 you know, geared for 00:10:34.46\00:10:35.80 young adults and children, teenagers. 00:10:35.83\00:10:37.17 So you were saturated in church culture? 00:10:37.20\00:10:39.17 All the time. Yeah. 00:10:39.20\00:10:40.54 Okay. 00:10:40.57\00:10:41.90 So, you know, but the church doesn't save your relationship 00:10:41.94\00:10:43.27 with Jesus, does it? 00:10:43.30\00:10:44.64 Amen. 00:10:44.67\00:10:46.01 So eventually, you know, as you get your license 00:10:46.04\00:10:47.38 and you start making your own decisions, 00:10:47.41\00:10:48.74 you gradually drift away. 00:10:48.78\00:10:50.45 And so I kind of pursued 00:10:50.48\00:10:53.18 the goals and the things of the world, 00:10:53.21\00:10:54.95 you know, pursuing basketball and got caught up with music 00:10:54.98\00:10:57.89 and everything that comes with it, 00:10:57.92\00:10:59.35 and drugs and violence, and you name it, 00:10:59.39\00:11:01.32 I got involved in it. 00:11:01.36\00:11:02.69 And so it was about 9, 10 years ago, 00:11:02.72\00:11:05.46 I'd actually got invited to go to GYC. 00:11:05.49\00:11:08.16 My sister said that I was sponsored to go, 00:11:08.20\00:11:11.27 come to find out it was my mother 00:11:11.30\00:11:12.63 who paid for me to go to the GYC. 00:11:12.67\00:11:14.04 She sponsored you? 00:11:14.07\00:11:15.40 She sponsored me in. 00:11:15.44\00:11:16.77 And let's... 00:11:16.81\00:11:18.14 For some who may not know what GYC is. 00:11:18.17\00:11:19.51 So GYC is a youth conference that happens every year. 00:11:19.54\00:11:21.01 It's Generation Youth Christ, 00:11:21.04\00:11:23.08 and so thousands of young people 00:11:23.11\00:11:24.91 all across the country come to this big conference. 00:11:24.95\00:11:28.25 And so I've said, "Yeah, I'll go check it out." 00:11:28.28\00:11:31.15 And one message after another, and before you know it, 00:11:31.19\00:11:34.16 I made a decision to follow the Lord 00:11:34.19\00:11:35.96 and been in fulltime ministry ever since. 00:11:35.99\00:11:37.69 Glory to God. 00:11:37.73\00:11:39.06 You know, that's what we love about GYC is there's... 00:11:39.09\00:11:42.36 Yes. 00:11:42.40\00:11:43.77 Let me ask how the two of you met. 00:11:43.80\00:11:45.60 Oh. Yeah, it's funny. 00:11:45.63\00:11:47.54 So he actually ended up working with GYC. 00:11:47.57\00:11:49.77 Yup. 00:11:49.80\00:11:51.14 But we were doing... 00:11:51.17\00:11:52.97 We went to a church for a program 00:11:53.01\00:11:54.84 where I was advertising the ministry at the church. 00:11:54.88\00:11:56.41 It was near the... 00:11:56.44\00:11:57.78 Maybe what, like four years ago, 00:11:57.81\00:11:59.15 three years ago? 00:11:59.18\00:12:00.52 Mm-hm. 00:12:00.55\00:12:01.88 And well, after we advertised, he advertised GYC. 00:12:01.92\00:12:04.85 And so, you know, afterward, our group, 00:12:04.89\00:12:07.79 we had a bunch of people with us, 00:12:07.82\00:12:09.26 we ended up saying, 00:12:09.29\00:12:10.63 "Hey, why don't you come with us to Taco Bell?" 00:12:10.66\00:12:12.23 And, you know, he came to Taco Bell with us, 00:12:12.26\00:12:14.96 and since then, 00:12:15.00\00:12:16.43 you know, we've been friends. 00:12:16.46\00:12:18.03 So I was promoting GYC, 00:12:18.07\00:12:19.40 he was promoting SALT at the church, 00:12:19.43\00:12:21.00 you know, for the youth event. 00:12:21.04\00:12:22.37 And we connected at Taco Bell, and he said, 00:12:22.40\00:12:25.64 "Hey, if it ever works out for us 00:12:25.67\00:12:27.01 to work together, let's do it." 00:12:27.08\00:12:28.41 I wasn't living in Orlando at the time. 00:12:28.44\00:12:29.81 Then I came back and both parties meshed, 00:12:29.84\00:12:32.18 and we've been trying to fulfill the vision 00:12:32.21\00:12:33.92 that he shared with me at the church ever since. 00:12:33.95\00:12:37.09 And right before we get into what SALT is all about, 00:12:37.12\00:12:40.56 you recently got your master's degree. 00:12:40.59\00:12:43.02 Tell us what your education is. 00:12:43.06\00:12:45.36 Yeah, I graduated on Friday. 00:12:45.39\00:12:47.53 So praise God for that, this past Friday. 00:12:47.60\00:12:51.03 But yeah, I have my Master's in Non-Profit Management. 00:12:51.07\00:12:54.94 So... What was your bachelor's? 00:12:54.97\00:12:57.14 My bachelor's was in social work. 00:12:57.21\00:12:58.54 In social work. Yup, yup. 00:12:58.57\00:12:59.91 And I ended up 00:12:59.94\00:13:01.28 getting a certification as a CNP, 00:13:01.31\00:13:03.48 which is certified non-profit professional. 00:13:03.55\00:13:06.28 And the goal is, because, you know, when SALT started, 00:13:06.31\00:13:08.72 I wanted to focus my life around the ministry. 00:13:08.75\00:13:11.62 And so I didn't go to school for a particular career, 00:13:11.65\00:13:15.26 but it was to be able to strengthen 00:13:15.29\00:13:17.03 the ministry even more. 00:13:17.06\00:13:18.39 Ooh, that speaks of the strong commitment. 00:13:18.43\00:13:20.50 So that's kind of what the path I went down. 00:13:20.53\00:13:22.60 All right. 00:13:22.63\00:13:23.97 So tell us a little bit about how you came up, 00:13:24.00\00:13:28.27 how the Lord inspired you with this idea for Service 00:13:28.30\00:13:33.01 And Love Together, which you call SALT? 00:13:33.04\00:13:34.98 Yeah, yeah. 00:13:35.01\00:13:36.34 So SALT, it was inspired by a few things. 00:13:36.38\00:13:39.75 I mean, you know, and, you know, I am from Orlando. 00:13:39.78\00:13:42.28 And that's where, you know, SALT is right now. 00:13:42.32\00:13:44.45 But when I first came into the church, 00:13:44.49\00:13:47.69 one of the things was, 00:13:47.72\00:13:49.06 you know, we realized young adults 00:13:49.09\00:13:50.43 were leaving the church. 00:13:50.46\00:13:51.79 That was a big thing. 00:13:51.83\00:13:53.16 You know, and when you go to the churches, 00:13:53.19\00:13:54.60 I mean, there's two young adults 00:13:54.63\00:13:56.06 at this church, maybe five at this one, 00:13:56.10\00:13:57.80 three at this one. 00:13:57.83\00:13:59.17 There wasn't something bringing them all together. 00:13:59.20\00:14:01.80 And so that was one of the reasons 00:14:01.84\00:14:03.30 why we wanted to have a vehicle to bring 00:14:03.34\00:14:05.54 the young adults together from the different churches 00:14:05.57\00:14:07.21 so there can be a young adult community. 00:14:07.28\00:14:09.11 'Cause here you are, as a young adult, 00:14:09.14\00:14:10.75 just joining the church, 00:14:10.78\00:14:12.11 and you're seeing other people pull out the back door, right? 00:14:12.15\00:14:14.02 Right. Exactly. 00:14:14.05\00:14:15.38 Right, you see it. 00:14:15.42\00:14:16.79 And so that was one thing. 00:14:16.82\00:14:18.15 The other thing was we realized that young adults 00:14:18.19\00:14:21.29 just hanging out with each other 00:14:21.32\00:14:22.92 isn't really the answer to keep young adults 00:14:22.96\00:14:25.16 in the church, you know? 00:14:25.19\00:14:26.53 They have to be... 00:14:26.56\00:14:27.90 You know, young adults want to change the world, 00:14:27.93\00:14:29.26 the millennials want to change the world. 00:14:29.30\00:14:30.67 Amen. 00:14:30.70\00:14:32.03 And so when you provide an outlet for young adults 00:14:32.07\00:14:34.37 to be able to change the world, 00:14:34.40\00:14:35.97 to be able to make a difference in their community, 00:14:36.00\00:14:38.24 that's what makes them stay. 00:14:38.27\00:14:39.61 So SALT became 00:14:39.64\00:14:41.41 this young adult community of service. 00:14:41.44\00:14:44.58 And, at one point, 00:14:44.61\00:14:46.38 half of our leadership 00:14:46.41\00:14:48.15 were backslid Seventh-day Adventist Christians, 00:14:48.18\00:14:50.69 young adults that came back to the church. 00:14:50.72\00:14:53.25 Praise God. 00:14:53.29\00:14:54.62 And so that was... 00:14:54.66\00:14:55.99 And, you know, the other thing 00:14:56.02\00:14:57.43 as well is when I came to the church, 00:14:57.46\00:14:58.99 there were a lot of outreach projects happening, 00:14:59.03\00:15:02.46 but there weren't relationships being built, you know? 00:15:02.50\00:15:05.00 And Christ's method is to create relationships 00:15:05.03\00:15:07.34 with those that He's serving. 00:15:07.37\00:15:08.70 And so... 00:15:08.74\00:15:10.07 So you're saying 00:15:10.11\00:15:11.44 they were a kind of a hit-and-missed? 00:15:11.47\00:15:12.81 It was, "Let me get my Jesus points this weekend, 00:15:12.84\00:15:14.54 and I'm done," you know? 00:15:14.58\00:15:15.91 But that's not how it should be. 00:15:15.94\00:15:18.18 It's needs to be... 00:15:18.21\00:15:19.55 For someone to truly be converted and to stay, 00:15:19.58\00:15:22.85 that commitment with Christ, 00:15:22.88\00:15:24.29 they need to see it practically. 00:15:24.32\00:15:25.82 And the only way you can do that is through relationships, 00:15:25.85\00:15:27.82 so... 00:15:27.86\00:15:29.19 So what are some of the types of programs that SALT does? 00:15:29.22\00:15:34.40 Yeah, so we have our hospital outreach. 00:15:34.43\00:15:36.87 Our hospital outreach, 00:15:36.90\00:15:38.23 we have groups of young adult volunteers, 00:15:38.27\00:15:39.77 go room to room, 00:15:39.80\00:15:41.14 they sing and pray with patients. 00:15:41.17\00:15:42.94 That's been a blessing. 00:15:42.97\00:15:44.31 We've gotten invited to funerals 00:15:44.34\00:15:45.67 and have had some testimonies come out of that. 00:15:45.71\00:15:50.75 And then we have a tutoring program 00:15:50.78\00:15:52.81 we're working on building right now to get to launch. 00:15:52.85\00:15:55.95 We need some tutors to really man that program. 00:15:55.98\00:15:58.05 But we have... 00:15:58.09\00:15:59.42 Tutoring. 00:15:59.45\00:16:00.79 Tutoring, actually at a title one school. 00:16:00.86\00:16:02.56 Oh, praise God. 00:16:02.59\00:16:03.93 So we started out in the community, 00:16:03.96\00:16:05.56 just kind of working with the kids 00:16:05.59\00:16:07.03 in that kind of a low-income community. 00:16:07.10\00:16:08.96 But we want to transition 00:16:09.00\00:16:10.37 to tutoring at a title one school 00:16:10.40\00:16:12.17 because it's a little more measurable as well. 00:16:12.20\00:16:14.60 We can see the impact being made 00:16:14.64\00:16:16.91 and volunteers might be more dedicated 00:16:16.94\00:16:19.47 to that sort of thing. 00:16:19.51\00:16:20.88 And our homeless outreach 00:16:20.91\00:16:22.24 is our biggest outreach right now, 00:16:22.28\00:16:23.61 the most known in the community. 00:16:23.65\00:16:26.48 And that is... 00:16:26.51\00:16:27.85 We're implementing, hopefully soon, 00:16:27.88\00:16:30.12 a back-to-work program for the homeless. 00:16:30.19\00:16:32.35 So we're providing all the services needed 00:16:32.39\00:16:34.56 for a homeless individual to obtain employment 00:16:34.59\00:16:38.09 and then eventually move into a case management 00:16:38.13\00:16:40.63 aspect of that program, 00:16:40.70\00:16:42.03 which we're working on right now. 00:16:42.06\00:16:43.47 All right. 00:16:43.50\00:16:44.83 And before we go to Lo-Ammi, 00:16:44.87\00:16:46.60 let me ask you, 00:16:46.63\00:16:47.97 you said you're providing all of the services needed. 00:16:48.00\00:16:50.97 Tell us what some of these serves are. 00:16:51.01\00:16:52.34 Yeah. 00:16:52.37\00:16:53.71 So if you're a homeless individual in Orlando, 00:16:53.78\00:16:55.11 you come to our outreach. 00:16:55.14\00:16:56.61 It's, you know, all outside, everything we have is mobile. 00:16:56.64\00:16:59.01 So a homeless individual will come, they'll register. 00:16:59.05\00:17:02.32 After they register, they go to our clothing trailer. 00:17:02.35\00:17:05.45 At our clothing trailer, we call it change trailer, 00:17:05.49\00:17:08.79 they get their towel, their washcloth, 00:17:08.82\00:17:11.13 their hygiene product, 00:17:11.16\00:17:12.49 and they also get a change of clothes, 00:17:12.53\00:17:13.90 brand new clothes. 00:17:13.93\00:17:15.50 Once they get that, they go and they get a haircut. 00:17:15.53\00:17:19.43 Once they obtain a haircut, 00:17:19.47\00:17:20.87 they can go into the shower trailer 00:17:20.94\00:17:22.27 and take a shower. 00:17:22.30\00:17:23.64 How cool. 00:17:23.67\00:17:25.01 You know, we have Spread the Vote, 00:17:25.04\00:17:27.11 an organization that helps them attain identification. 00:17:27.18\00:17:30.75 We have other partners that we work with 00:17:30.78\00:17:33.01 to help in different areas. 00:17:33.05\00:17:35.58 But ultimately, that's kind of, 00:17:35.62\00:17:38.79 you know, the gist of certain main services 00:17:38.82\00:17:41.96 we offer the homeless right now. 00:17:41.99\00:17:43.73 So this is very well organized. 00:17:43.76\00:17:45.23 It is. 00:17:45.26\00:17:46.59 Yes, yeah. 00:17:46.63\00:17:47.96 This is not something that's arbitrarily done. 00:17:48.00\00:17:49.33 Exactly. 00:17:49.36\00:17:50.70 They come and they follow a procedure. 00:17:50.77\00:17:52.10 Exactly. 00:17:52.13\00:17:53.47 There's been a lot of test-and-trial. 00:17:53.50\00:17:54.84 You know, obviously, you know, we have this vision, 00:17:54.87\00:17:56.40 we want to implement it. 00:17:56.44\00:17:57.77 Then we realize as soon as we implement it, 00:17:57.81\00:17:59.14 "Oh, we didn't think about this, that, and that." 00:17:59.17\00:18:00.51 Yeah. 00:18:00.58\00:18:01.91 So there was a lot of test-and-trial. 00:18:01.94\00:18:03.28 But, you know, as we continued to do it more and more, 00:18:03.31\00:18:04.85 there's now a smooth system that's in place 00:18:04.88\00:18:06.92 that allows our homeless friends... 00:18:06.95\00:18:08.28 Praise God, you didn't just sit back 00:18:08.32\00:18:09.65 and wait till you have this smooth system. 00:18:09.68\00:18:11.02 Yeah. 00:18:11.05\00:18:12.39 And, you know, I just have to say, 00:18:12.42\00:18:13.76 we are so spoiled in the United States. 00:18:13.79\00:18:16.83 You know, we take... 00:18:16.86\00:18:18.63 Most of us take our daily shower for granted. 00:18:18.66\00:18:22.46 You know, every now and then, 00:18:22.50\00:18:23.87 when I'm in the shower and I'm praising God, 00:18:23.90\00:18:25.97 and that's my time... 00:18:26.00\00:18:28.37 God and I have a good time in the shower. 00:18:28.40\00:18:30.41 But anyway, 00:18:30.44\00:18:31.91 you know, quite often I will say to the Lord, 00:18:31.94\00:18:34.58 "Thank you, Lord, that I've got a hot shower." 00:18:34.61\00:18:38.28 And to be homeless, 00:18:38.31\00:18:40.02 I can't imagine what it would be like to go 00:18:40.05\00:18:42.72 for maybe weeks. 00:18:42.75\00:18:44.09 Imagine two, three days without showering, 00:18:44.12\00:18:45.55 you know how you feel. 00:18:45.59\00:18:46.96 Right. 00:18:46.99\00:18:48.32 Some individuals, three, four months without showering, 00:18:48.36\00:18:49.69 so you can see their demeanor change, 00:18:49.72\00:18:51.59 once they take a shower and come out, 00:18:51.63\00:18:52.96 they just look like a new person. 00:18:52.99\00:18:54.63 So it's been a blessing. 00:18:54.66\00:18:56.00 So being mobile... 00:18:56.03\00:18:57.37 So let's just say you go to location, 00:18:57.40\00:18:59.53 how are these locations picked? 00:18:59.57\00:19:01.74 Yeah, so there's a couple of key things 00:19:01.77\00:19:03.51 that we look for. 00:19:03.54\00:19:04.87 One, we need a power hook-up. 00:19:04.91\00:19:06.98 We need a host hook-up. 00:19:07.01\00:19:08.71 And then we also need a dumping area 00:19:08.74\00:19:10.68 that the waste that needs to be dumped somewhere, 00:19:10.75\00:19:13.42 and so we have to get... 00:19:13.45\00:19:14.78 There are areas that are approved by the city 00:19:14.82\00:19:16.35 where we can dump black water. 00:19:16.38\00:19:18.69 So those are the churches that are ideal. 00:19:18.72\00:19:20.46 Conveniently, and I don't think it was coincidentally, 00:19:20.49\00:19:23.43 I think it was intentional, 00:19:23.46\00:19:24.79 the two Adventist churches close to Downtown 00:19:24.83\00:19:27.40 have all of those things? 00:19:27.43\00:19:28.76 Praise God. 00:19:28.80\00:19:30.17 So it works out. 00:19:30.20\00:19:31.53 And they have big properties, so it works out really well. 00:19:31.57\00:19:34.24 You've got some pictures. 00:19:34.27\00:19:35.60 So I think this would be an ideal time 00:19:35.64\00:19:37.01 'cause we want to get to the harvesting. 00:19:37.04\00:19:38.84 But let's look at some of the pictures that... 00:19:38.87\00:19:40.48 Okay. 00:19:40.51\00:19:41.84 Because I love this slogan, change your body, 00:19:41.88\00:19:46.28 change your soul? 00:19:46.31\00:19:47.65 Change the body, change the soul. 00:19:47.68\00:19:49.02 Change the body change the soul. 00:19:49.05\00:19:50.62 Let's look at these pictures right now. 00:19:50.69\00:19:52.02 Yeah. 00:19:52.05\00:19:53.39 So that's our clothing trailer right there, 00:19:53.42\00:19:54.76 our change trailer. 00:19:54.79\00:19:56.12 Some homeless individuals there. 00:19:56.16\00:19:57.53 And we have our volunteers inside, 00:19:57.56\00:19:58.89 kind of giving clothing. 00:19:58.93\00:20:00.26 All right. 00:20:00.30\00:20:01.63 So they've registered 00:20:01.66\00:20:03.00 and now they're standing in line 00:20:03.03\00:20:04.40 waiting for you to call their name. 00:20:04.43\00:20:07.07 And then they'll go up, and then they'll get a haircut? 00:20:07.14\00:20:11.14 They'll get a haircut after the change trailer, 00:20:11.17\00:20:14.51 then they go and get a haircut. 00:20:14.54\00:20:15.88 Yeah, I think in that picture, 00:20:15.91\00:20:17.25 if we can bring that picture back up, 00:20:17.28\00:20:18.61 see, right at the very back... 00:20:18.65\00:20:20.02 Yeah. Yeah. 00:20:20.05\00:20:21.38 And at the back stand... 00:20:21.42\00:20:22.75 Under the blue canopy there, yup... 00:20:22.78\00:20:24.12 So they get a haircut before they take the shower. 00:20:24.15\00:20:25.49 And then they're lined up there in the seats to get a shower. 00:20:25.52\00:20:28.99 How precious. 00:20:29.02\00:20:30.76 Now who is this? Yeah. 00:20:30.83\00:20:32.56 So we had the opportunity to go up 00:20:32.59\00:20:36.03 when the hurricane hit recently. 00:20:36.06\00:20:37.90 There were towns and cities without water, 00:20:41.80\00:20:43.81 access to water. 00:20:43.84\00:20:45.17 Yeah. 00:20:45.21\00:20:46.54 And so the people there, they didn't know what to do. 00:20:46.57\00:20:47.91 We actually got called by a county up there 00:20:47.94\00:20:49.71 in North Florida. 00:20:49.74\00:20:51.68 And, you know, I just kind of put it out there, 00:20:51.71\00:20:53.11 I am like," Hey, we have a shower trailer, 00:20:53.15\00:20:54.55 if you guys need us, let us know." 00:20:54.58\00:20:56.38 We got contacted, 00:20:56.42\00:20:59.39 you know, we brought up our trailer 00:20:59.42\00:21:01.59 and we were able to provide showers 00:21:01.62\00:21:02.96 to the community there that didn't have access 00:21:02.99\00:21:05.06 to shower during that time and we're able to witness 00:21:05.09\00:21:07.33 in that way too 00:21:07.40\00:21:08.73 to just so many different people in that area. 00:21:08.76\00:21:11.10 Amen, amen. 00:21:11.13\00:21:12.47 So not only with that family, but who are these people? 00:21:12.50\00:21:15.20 Yeah, so those are the first responders 00:21:15.24\00:21:18.41 that came out, they don't have access to showers either, 00:21:18.44\00:21:21.08 you know, they're out there helping people 00:21:21.11\00:21:22.81 that the houses are messed up, 00:21:22.84\00:21:24.41 but they weren't able to shower. 00:21:24.45\00:21:26.01 So we were able to get them showers as well 00:21:26.05\00:21:28.55 throughout the time that we were out there. 00:21:28.58\00:21:30.29 Okay. 00:21:30.32\00:21:31.65 Now you partner with 00:21:31.69\00:21:33.09 or various people partner with you, tell us about this. 00:21:33.12\00:21:35.76 Yeah. 00:21:35.79\00:21:37.13 So this is the department of health. 00:21:37.16\00:21:38.73 Actually, they come out 00:21:38.76\00:21:40.20 and they do a hepatitis vaccination 00:21:40.23\00:21:42.70 for the homo citizen epidemic. 00:21:42.73\00:21:44.07 Praise God. 00:21:44.10\00:21:45.43 And so they're doing the vaccinations there 00:21:45.47\00:21:46.84 to help us out. 00:21:46.87\00:21:48.20 All right. 00:21:48.24\00:21:49.57 And then we have the University of Central Florida. 00:21:49.60\00:21:53.11 They come out, 00:21:53.14\00:21:54.48 they have a group called Hearts for the Homeless, 00:21:54.51\00:21:56.88 and so they do, you know, checks on the heart, 00:21:56.95\00:21:59.68 blood pressure, 00:21:59.71\00:22:01.18 you know, other various checks on their health to see 00:22:01.22\00:22:05.22 how they're doing. 00:22:05.25\00:22:06.59 Wonderful. 00:22:06.62\00:22:07.96 And then we've got... 00:22:07.99\00:22:09.32 Yeah, Clean the World 00:22:09.36\00:22:10.73 actually donates hygiene products to us 00:22:10.76\00:22:12.96 so we can help provide the hygiene 00:22:12.99\00:22:14.90 to the homeless as well. 00:22:14.93\00:22:16.26 So they do help support us. 00:22:16.30\00:22:17.77 And one of the beautiful things about all these partnerships 00:22:17.80\00:22:21.30 is these are all secular organizations, 00:22:21.34\00:22:23.71 you know, and so as a result, 00:22:23.74\00:22:27.18 you know, we're able to reach people, 00:22:27.21\00:22:29.21 not just our volunteers, 00:22:29.24\00:22:30.58 not just the people reaching out to 00:22:30.65\00:22:32.15 but then there are corporations 00:22:32.18\00:22:33.52 and other people that are getting involved, 00:22:33.55\00:22:35.25 other organizations, 00:22:35.28\00:22:36.62 and it really provides such a wide range of people 00:22:36.69\00:22:39.89 that we're able to reach, which is awesome, 00:22:39.92\00:22:42.16 you know, it's great. 00:22:42.19\00:22:43.53 You know, I wanted to tell this story, 00:22:43.56\00:22:46.43 Lo-Ammi, I am gonna call you Ammi, 00:22:46.46\00:22:50.27 about the atheist. 00:22:50.30\00:22:52.10 First of all, Ammi is the harvest director, 00:22:52.13\00:22:56.91 tell us what that means and then tell us 00:22:56.94\00:23:00.58 the story of the atheist 00:23:00.61\00:23:01.94 who is actually volunteering with you 00:23:01.98\00:23:03.75 and when you're talking about not just changing 00:23:03.78\00:23:08.45 for the homeless or changing for our church members 00:23:08.48\00:23:12.09 but other volunteers whose lives are being changed. 00:23:12.12\00:23:14.59 Yes, so I know, people always kind of raise their eyebrows 00:23:14.62\00:23:17.53 like what's the harvest director, 00:23:17.56\00:23:18.89 you know, what are you planting? 00:23:18.93\00:23:20.26 Yes. 00:23:20.30\00:23:21.63 Well, we plant seeds throughout the community, 00:23:21.66\00:23:23.00 reaching people and, 00:23:23.03\00:23:24.37 you know, showering them and giving them haircuts. 00:23:24.40\00:23:26.40 And so my responsibility is to harvest them. 00:23:26.43\00:23:28.87 So one of the responsibilities at least this year 00:23:28.90\00:23:31.34 was to try to really emphasize advance 00:23:31.37\00:23:34.31 at all of our local Adventist churches. 00:23:34.34\00:23:36.64 We all volunteer, we all go to different churches. 00:23:36.68\00:23:39.58 So every month, we wanted to do like, 00:23:39.61\00:23:42.15 in the beginning of the year, 00:23:42.18\00:23:43.52 we started doing a week a prayer. 00:23:43.59\00:23:44.92 I conducted a week of prayer, 00:23:44.95\00:23:46.29 we did an evangelistic series every Friday, 00:23:46.32\00:23:48.59 at least once every Friday of each month, 00:23:48.62\00:23:50.53 we wanted to do a harvest event at one of our local churches 00:23:50.56\00:23:53.43 to invite the people that we've been witnessing to 00:23:53.50\00:23:56.26 to come to the local churches as they had make decisions, 00:23:56.30\00:23:59.10 so either Bible studies or baptisms, 00:23:59.13\00:24:01.07 then those context can be placed in those local churches 00:24:01.10\00:24:04.57 that we're doing at those events. 00:24:04.61\00:24:05.94 So though we're a hub of a lot of volunteers 00:24:05.97\00:24:08.51 from different churches, 00:24:08.54\00:24:09.88 we want to make sure that to let the churches know 00:24:09.91\00:24:11.88 we are here to help, we want to, 00:24:11.91\00:24:14.12 you know, have the church grow and so the work 00:24:14.15\00:24:16.79 that we're doing in the community, 00:24:16.82\00:24:18.15 we wanna plug them into the local churches 00:24:18.19\00:24:19.59 because it's great that we shower them, 00:24:19.62\00:24:21.22 it's great that we're feeding them, 00:24:21.26\00:24:22.59 it's great that we're clothing them, 00:24:22.62\00:24:23.96 but at the end of the day, 00:24:24.03\00:24:25.36 if they don't have a community of believers 00:24:25.39\00:24:26.73 that they can grow 00:24:26.76\00:24:28.10 in their experience with Christ, 00:24:28.13\00:24:29.46 then it means nothing. 00:24:29.50\00:24:30.83 So my job is to harvest them and after we serve them, 00:24:30.87\00:24:32.37 we harvest them 00:24:32.40\00:24:33.74 into making decisions for the God, 00:24:33.77\00:24:35.10 so that's my responsibility. 00:24:35.14\00:24:36.47 So, back up just a second cause said lots of churches. 00:24:36.50\00:24:39.27 Yeah. 00:24:39.31\00:24:40.68 How many Seventh-day Adventist Churches 00:24:40.71\00:24:42.31 are there in Orlando? 00:24:42.34\00:24:43.68 So within a one mile radius, 'cause we talked about this... 00:24:43.75\00:24:45.08 I've lost count. 00:24:45.11\00:24:46.92 Within a one mile radius, we have about 15, 00:24:46.95\00:24:49.85 about 12 to 15 Adventist churches 00:24:49.88\00:24:51.42 through different conferences. 00:24:51.45\00:24:52.79 In just one mile? Yeah. 00:24:52.82\00:24:54.32 So we expand that to, you know, 10 miles, 20, 00:24:54.36\00:24:57.26 you know, Orlando was a very Adventist saturated city 00:24:57.33\00:25:01.76 'cause of Advent health and hospitals that are there. 00:25:01.80\00:25:04.17 So a lot of churches and then we realize 00:25:04.20\00:25:07.07 there's not a lot of work that's being done. 00:25:07.14\00:25:09.30 And so one of the unique things about SALT is that we're, 00:25:09.34\00:25:11.57 you know, gathering people from, 00:25:11.61\00:25:13.61 you know, different churches, 00:25:13.68\00:25:16.04 different conferences, focusing on one mission, 00:25:16.08\00:25:18.05 but at the same time, 00:25:18.08\00:25:19.41 want to implement those people back 00:25:19.45\00:25:21.08 into the local churches so they can alternately 00:25:21.12\00:25:24.09 fulfill this vision in their local churches. 00:25:24.12\00:25:26.22 That way they can have a SALT hub 00:25:26.25\00:25:27.86 and they can do what we're doing in downtown, 00:25:27.89\00:25:30.06 they can do it in their local church 00:25:30.13\00:25:31.46 in their local community to have that impact. 00:25:31.49\00:25:33.43 So it's duplicable? 00:25:33.50\00:25:34.83 Yes. And that's what we're trying. 00:25:34.86\00:25:36.67 And that's in the process. So that's the long-term goal. 00:25:36.70\00:25:38.03 That is the long term goal. 00:25:38.07\00:25:39.70 So right now, you're proving it and it is working. 00:25:39.73\00:25:42.37 It is making a major difference in peoples' lives. 00:25:42.40\00:25:46.01 Wonderful seeds are being sown. 00:25:46.04\00:25:48.81 So and my job is to try to say okay, 00:25:48.84\00:25:51.08 we've reached them, 00:25:51.11\00:25:52.45 we've made connections with them, 00:25:52.48\00:25:53.82 we're building friendships and relationships, 00:25:53.85\00:25:55.18 we invite them to Bible studies, 00:25:55.22\00:25:56.55 we have a foodies group that, 00:25:56.58\00:25:57.92 you know, we go out to eat. 00:25:57.95\00:25:59.29 So we have all of these ways to communicate 00:25:59.32\00:26:00.96 and connect with them. 00:26:00.99\00:26:02.32 So how do we have them, 00:26:02.36\00:26:04.96 create another atmosphere 00:26:04.99\00:26:06.33 that they can grow their deep desire to know God, 00:26:06.36\00:26:10.40 and so that's what all of their harvest events 00:26:10.47\00:26:12.33 are for the week appraisal, revival weekends, 00:26:12.37\00:26:14.57 the Friday night events, 00:26:14.60\00:26:15.94 the evangelistic series is to gather all of the people 00:26:15.97\00:26:19.51 that we've connected with and plug them 00:26:19.54\00:26:21.28 into those programs so they can ultimately 00:26:21.31\00:26:23.08 make a decision for Jesus. 00:26:23.11\00:26:24.45 One thing that I just wanna mention, 00:26:24.48\00:26:25.88 if you could just focus in on the logo, 00:26:25.91\00:26:28.98 I absolutely love this logo, and it's so catching, 00:26:29.02\00:26:31.92 and on your shirts, it just jumps at you. 00:26:31.95\00:26:33.99 Right. 00:26:34.06\00:26:35.39 SALT, with a salt shaker upside down, okay, 00:26:35.42\00:26:39.09 and then Service and Love Together. 00:26:39.13\00:26:42.33 We talked about serving and being available, 00:26:42.36\00:26:46.20 but you need to have some substance to that serving, 00:26:46.23\00:26:50.81 and that's called love, that's called care. 00:26:50.84\00:26:52.44 That's right, yep. 00:26:52.47\00:26:53.81 If love is not rooted in the reason 00:26:53.88\00:26:55.91 why you're serving, avails nothing, 00:26:55.94\00:26:57.75 and so as we are all serving one purpose, 00:26:57.78\00:27:02.35 outward expression of our Love for Jesus, 00:27:02.38\00:27:04.79 you see that unity come together. 00:27:04.82\00:27:06.62 So actually if the logo that just showed up, it says, 00:27:06.65\00:27:10.13 "At your service," a good friend of ours, 00:27:10.16\00:27:12.09 he's actually the leader for our homeless outreach... 00:27:12.13\00:27:14.63 And just got promoted 00:27:14.66\00:27:16.00 to vice president of the organization. 00:27:16.03\00:27:17.37 He just got promoted to vice president now. 00:27:17.40\00:27:18.73 He always has thousands 00:27:18.77\00:27:20.14 and thousands of slogans and ideas, 00:27:20.17\00:27:22.50 and he's like SALT at your service, 00:27:22.54\00:27:24.47 and it stuck, and I was like, 00:27:24.51\00:27:26.01 "I think that's should be our updated logo." 00:27:26.04\00:27:28.48 At your service 'cause that's exactly what we're doing. 00:27:28.51\00:27:29.84 Our catchphrase yeah? 00:27:29.88\00:27:31.21 Yeah, catchphrase, we wanna be at your service. 00:27:31.25\00:27:33.15 How can we, you know, help and serve you, 00:27:33.18\00:27:35.08 and which kind of leads into the story 00:27:35.12\00:27:36.79 about our atheist friend that we mentioned about. 00:27:36.82\00:27:40.49 You know, Eric and I, 00:27:40.56\00:27:42.39 we're roommates 00:27:42.42\00:27:43.76 and so we have a third roommate, 00:27:43.83\00:27:45.16 and he kind of let us know about a situation 00:27:45.19\00:27:46.80 that took place with a guy that he knew. 00:27:46.83\00:27:50.50 And so he's like, 00:27:50.57\00:27:51.90 "Hey, man, he's just gonna stay here 00:27:51.93\00:27:53.27 for the weekend, he needs a crash." 00:27:53.30\00:27:54.64 And I was like, "Yeah, no problem, 00:27:54.67\00:27:56.30 he can stay for the week." 00:27:56.34\00:27:57.67 Well, what ends up being a week ends up 00:27:57.71\00:27:59.11 being three months. 00:27:59.14\00:28:00.81 And so as we unite... 00:28:00.88\00:28:02.28 Give us a little of the back story. 00:28:02.31\00:28:04.05 Yeah, so Eric can kind of give you 00:28:04.08\00:28:06.65 a little backdrop to the story and then I can... 00:28:06.72\00:28:08.58 Yeah, yeah. 00:28:08.62\00:28:09.95 So he was... 00:28:09.98\00:28:11.55 So this individual, 00:28:11.59\00:28:13.22 he was diagnosed with brain cancer, 00:28:13.25\00:28:16.46 and so he's in the MMA instructor, 00:28:16.49\00:28:19.63 could no longer do his job. 00:28:19.66\00:28:21.33 So he had brain cancer, no longer do his job, 00:28:21.36\00:28:23.57 his girlfriend left him as soon as he was diagnosed 00:28:23.60\00:28:25.73 because she's like, "I can't deal with this." 00:28:25.77\00:28:28.37 She left, and he's living in his car. 00:28:28.40\00:28:31.17 That's when our third roommate... 00:28:31.21\00:28:33.24 You know, he reached out to our third roommate 00:28:33.27\00:28:37.28 and then after that... 00:28:37.35\00:28:38.68 Yeah, he asked, 00:28:38.71\00:28:40.05 "Hey, can he stay for the weekend?" 00:28:40.08\00:28:41.42 Then we found out he lost his job, 00:28:41.45\00:28:42.78 and after he lost his job, his car broke down, 00:28:42.82\00:28:44.99 and he had no money, he had no place to stay, 00:28:45.02\00:28:48.26 he reached out to all of these friends 00:28:48.29\00:28:49.62 that he thought he had, they all kind of bailed on him. 00:28:49.66\00:28:51.76 Yep. 00:28:51.79\00:28:53.13 And so, you know, it's interesting 00:28:53.16\00:28:54.50 because we serve so many people outside of the community, 00:28:54.53\00:28:56.36 we have personal relationships 00:28:56.40\00:28:57.73 which we'd never actually extended anyone 00:28:57.77\00:28:59.73 to come into our home and so when you read the Bible 00:28:59.77\00:29:02.37 and you read Matthew 25 and you read Isaiah 58, 00:29:02.40\00:29:05.47 you see this emphasis 00:29:05.51\00:29:06.88 to invite people into your home. 00:29:06.91\00:29:08.24 Usually, we think, "Oh, yeah, it's a weekend thing, 00:29:08.28\00:29:10.05 you know, stay." 00:29:10.08\00:29:11.55 But as, you know, things developed, you realize, 00:29:11.58\00:29:14.35 "Man, Lord like..." 00:29:14.38\00:29:17.02 Yeah, he's a mess, like, 00:29:17.09\00:29:19.52 you know, he's going through depression, 00:29:19.55\00:29:20.89 he's lost his job. 00:29:20.96\00:29:22.29 What do we do? We don't really... 00:29:22.32\00:29:23.66 I heard he's an Atheist. 00:29:23.69\00:29:25.03 Yeah, he's an Atheist as that. 00:29:25.06\00:29:26.39 So to make a long story short, the Lord has blessed, 00:29:26.43\00:29:27.83 he's been able to go to counseling 00:29:27.86\00:29:29.56 and the counselor that he met essentially was... 00:29:29.60\00:29:32.77 I believe it was a miracle. 00:29:32.80\00:29:34.14 That whole counselor situation was a... 00:29:34.17\00:29:36.54 It was evident that he needed counseling, 00:29:36.57\00:29:38.64 I mean, he was going through severe depression for sure. 00:29:38.67\00:29:41.01 And with everything going on I mean, 00:29:41.04\00:29:42.71 you know, what do you expect? 00:29:42.74\00:29:44.08 So I ended up looking up counselors online. 00:29:44.15\00:29:47.02 And I was like, 00:29:47.05\00:29:48.38 "Oh, I think there's a free counselor. 00:29:48.42\00:29:49.75 Call him, call the counselor." 00:29:49.78\00:29:51.12 He called. 00:29:51.15\00:29:52.49 He went in for an hour session just to, 00:29:52.52\00:29:54.26 you know, I guess that was the intro session. 00:29:54.29\00:29:56.62 So this lady charges close to $200 an hour. 00:29:56.66\00:29:58.83 Ooh. 00:29:58.86\00:30:00.20 I didn't know that, but he sat there, 00:30:00.23\00:30:01.83 he was with her for three hours and she said, 00:30:01.86\00:30:04.63 "Don't worry about paying me, come back next week. 00:30:04.67\00:30:07.07 I like you. 00:30:07.14\00:30:08.47 I wanna keep seeing you." 00:30:08.50\00:30:09.84 Wow. 00:30:09.87\00:30:11.21 So this isn't anyone that's associated with your ministry? 00:37:00.65\00:37:02.25 You both go out and preach. 00:37:02.28\00:37:03.82 When did you know you had or that God was calling you 00:37:03.89\00:37:07.39 and giving you a speaking ability? 00:37:07.46\00:37:09.46 For me, it was kind of after my test... 00:37:09.49\00:37:11.69 After my experience at that youth conference 00:37:11.73\00:37:14.43 at Generation Youth for Christ, 00:37:14.46\00:37:16.00 the Lord opened up the door for me 00:37:16.03\00:37:17.40 to be a Bible worker in California. 00:37:17.47\00:37:20.24 And so from there, became a chaplain, 00:37:20.27\00:37:22.70 became a Bible teacher, 00:37:22.74\00:37:24.21 and that was about three years ago 00:37:24.24\00:37:25.57 that I got a lot of speaking appointments, 00:37:25.61\00:37:26.98 you know, and I was like, 00:37:27.01\00:37:28.34 "Well, there's no way I can work a full-time job and, 00:37:28.38\00:37:30.85 you know, take care of these appointments." 00:37:30.88\00:37:32.65 And so I took a leap of faith, I was like, "All right, Lord, 00:37:32.68\00:37:34.05 you gonna have to provide, 00:37:34.12\00:37:35.45 but I wanna fulfill these appointments, 00:37:35.48\00:37:37.29 four months," and now becoming three years 00:37:37.32\00:37:39.89 and so it's amazing 00:37:39.92\00:37:42.22 because everywhere that I preach, 00:37:42.26\00:37:43.63 I am sharing this vision that SALT has 00:37:43.66\00:37:45.16 and I wanna make sure that let people know, 00:37:45.19\00:37:47.00 "Listen, we are doing this in Orlando, 00:37:47.03\00:37:48.36 but you can do this in Tennessee, 00:37:48.40\00:37:49.76 you can do this in Africa, you can do this in Haiti, 00:37:49.80\00:37:51.50 you can do this in, 00:37:51.53\00:37:52.87 you know, wherever parts of the country 00:37:52.90\00:37:54.24 that you're at 00:37:54.27\00:37:55.60 or whatever state you're living in." 00:37:55.64\00:37:57.01 And so yeah, you know, for me, I am always constantly... 00:37:57.04\00:37:59.67 Actually these next few months 00:37:59.71\00:38:01.88 is gonna be hectic in my schedule 00:38:01.91\00:38:03.65 in evangelistic series and everything. 00:38:03.68\00:38:05.75 And so Eric, I know, I live with Eric, 00:38:05.78\00:38:08.28 so fulltime relationship, fulltime school, 00:38:08.32\00:38:10.99 fulltime work, and then fulltime SALT. 00:38:11.02\00:38:13.22 So yeah, we've been really, really, 00:38:13.25\00:38:16.52 you know, busy to say the least. 00:38:16.56\00:38:18.69 I think they call it big dedicated. 00:38:18.73\00:38:21.23 Yeah, I am gonna use that word dedicated. 00:38:21.26\00:38:23.47 So are you trying to 00:38:23.50\00:38:26.07 or thinking about putting together 00:38:26.10\00:38:28.67 some kind of menu 00:38:28.70\00:38:30.04 'cause you said you did a lot of test and trials 00:38:30.11\00:38:32.17 to find out what worked. 00:38:32.21\00:38:33.58 Have you thought about doing that 00:38:33.61\00:38:34.98 so you can get different chapters 00:38:35.01\00:38:36.95 going in different areas? 00:38:36.98\00:38:38.31 Exactly, so, we want to be able to put together, 00:38:38.35\00:38:41.58 like you said, a blueprint. 00:38:41.62\00:38:43.59 Now that I'm out of school, 00:38:43.62\00:38:44.95 I can start really developing that 00:38:44.99\00:38:47.82 and we have put some things together here and there, 00:38:47.86\00:38:50.56 but really to combine everything together 00:38:50.63\00:38:53.60 and really put everything down in paper, 00:38:53.63\00:38:55.23 it's gonna take a while. 00:38:55.26\00:38:56.60 But, you know, between everything else, 00:38:56.67\00:39:00.14 now that I'm out of school at least my evenings, 00:39:00.17\00:39:02.17 I can spend to put in that manual together. 00:39:02.20\00:39:04.01 The big goal is that 00:39:04.04\00:39:06.51 once we complete this book or this, 00:39:06.54\00:39:10.28 you know, blueprint, we wanna be 00:39:10.35\00:39:12.15 able to go to every church across the country and say, 00:39:12.18\00:39:14.85 "Here's a blueprint, follow this, 00:39:14.88\00:39:16.55 experience your Bible, 00:39:16.58\00:39:17.92 and you'll have young people come back into your church 00:39:17.95\00:39:19.62 and everything would be laid out." 00:39:19.65\00:39:20.99 Amen. 00:39:21.02\00:39:22.36 So it's test and trail for us as we are learning, 00:39:22.39\00:39:23.73 we're growing. 00:39:23.76\00:39:25.09 But in those experiences, we can show you exactly, 00:39:25.13\00:39:26.53 and that's ultimately, my vision, 00:39:26.56\00:39:28.13 our vision as organization is to implement this 00:39:28.16\00:39:30.80 in every church, Adventist Church. 00:39:30.87\00:39:32.87 So you've got this, 00:39:32.90\00:39:35.84 I am gonna say it in a different way, 00:39:35.87\00:39:37.84 in every city, 'cause you got all... 00:39:37.87\00:39:39.74 I love the fact that you've got all these people coming in 00:39:39.77\00:39:43.68 from different churches. 00:39:43.75\00:39:45.08 How many volunteers do you have? 00:39:45.11\00:39:47.02 We have consistently about 100 volunteers. 00:39:47.05\00:39:50.72 Praise God. 00:39:50.79\00:39:52.12 That consistent being defined as coming to at least 00:39:52.15\00:39:54.29 one outreach at least once per month. 00:39:54.32\00:39:56.09 Okay, wonderful. 00:39:56.12\00:39:57.66 And when you bring all of these in, I mean, 00:39:57.69\00:40:00.96 you know, you've got different conferences 00:40:01.00\00:40:03.80 working together, 00:40:03.87\00:40:05.20 different Seventh-day Adventist churches 00:40:05.23\00:40:06.97 working together 00:40:07.04\00:40:08.37 and impacting and if we've got time, 00:40:08.40\00:40:10.81 I wanna ask you personally how it's impacted you, 00:40:10.84\00:40:13.38 but impacting spiritual lives 00:40:13.41\00:40:17.88 and touching so many hearts, 00:40:17.91\00:40:21.25 but it's been what, seven years, eight years? 00:40:21.28\00:40:24.59 Yeah, it'll be eight years in September, yep. 00:40:24.62\00:40:28.82 Eight years, isn't it time? 00:40:28.86\00:40:32.19 I mean, are you getting to a point, 00:40:32.23\00:40:34.10 how do you get your funding 00:40:34.13\00:40:35.60 and are you getting to a point 00:40:35.63\00:40:37.87 where perhaps you could have a full-time, 00:40:37.90\00:40:42.87 become a full-time paid director? 00:40:42.90\00:40:44.91 Right now you're a full time unpaid director. 00:40:44.94\00:40:46.98 Right. 00:40:47.01\00:40:48.34 But especially if you're gonna try 00:40:48.38\00:40:49.71 and open different chapters, duplicate this. 00:40:49.74\00:40:52.28 It's necessary and, 00:40:52.31\00:40:54.32 you know, there's only so far we can go 00:40:54.35\00:40:57.79 without having full-time person, 00:40:57.82\00:41:00.19 you know, we're almost at that place and so, 00:41:00.26\00:41:03.36 by the end of this year, 00:41:03.43\00:41:04.76 my goal would be to transition full-time 00:41:04.79\00:41:06.29 into the organization 00:41:06.33\00:41:08.50 because that would just increase our capacity, 00:41:08.53\00:41:11.07 not only to make a difference 00:41:11.10\00:41:12.63 but it could even create opportunities 00:41:12.67\00:41:14.47 for other young adults 00:41:14.50\00:41:15.97 to be full-time ministry, you know? 00:41:16.00\00:41:18.17 And so yeah, that's the goal. 00:41:18.21\00:41:21.51 Right now, we aren't able to, 00:41:21.54\00:41:23.45 our funding comes from individual donations, 00:41:23.48\00:41:26.08 and we just... 00:41:26.11\00:41:27.45 You are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. 00:41:27.52\00:41:30.39 Exactly, yes. 00:41:30.42\00:41:31.79 And so but it's just not enough for that, 00:41:31.82\00:41:34.26 we pretty much just have enough to operate, 00:41:34.29\00:41:38.49 you know, as often as we do, but that's pretty much it. 00:41:38.53\00:41:42.00 Okay. 00:41:42.03\00:41:43.47 I do wanna ask this as well, 00:41:43.50\00:41:45.40 you had mentioned you've got this shower trailer 00:41:45.43\00:41:47.97 and you actually went through it. 00:41:48.00\00:41:49.50 Yeah. When it was right off the line. 00:41:49.54\00:41:51.37 Just right off the line, 00:41:51.41\00:41:52.74 and just your booth was a couple of down from us 00:41:52.77\00:41:55.74 at 3ABN. 00:41:55.78\00:41:58.21 At ASI? At ASI. 00:41:58.25\00:41:59.75 Okay. 00:41:59.78\00:42:01.12 And I heard a lot of people talking about that trailer 00:42:01.15\00:42:04.09 down there, and I just being curious as everybody else, 00:42:04.12\00:42:08.26 I went down there. 00:42:08.29\00:42:09.62 Oh, my goodness, I mean, this is a Cadillac trailer. 00:42:09.66\00:42:13.50 I mean, it's hard to believe, I came from mid-America, 00:42:13.53\00:42:18.23 I've came from the ranching business in Texas, 00:42:18.27\00:42:21.50 and so we talk about big trailers, 00:42:21.54\00:42:23.14 you know like cattle trailers. 00:42:23.17\00:42:24.84 And so in my mind, I thought was gonna, 00:42:24.87\00:42:27.08 "How are they gonna do this?" 00:42:27.11\00:42:28.78 Very sophisticated, 00:42:28.81\00:42:30.25 everything meticulously put in place 00:42:30.28\00:42:32.71 to actually have a shower, 00:42:32.75\00:42:34.12 you know, and I guess, it ran off a generator. 00:42:34.15\00:42:36.69 How does all this run? 00:42:36.72\00:42:38.19 So we can run on a generator, 00:42:38.22\00:42:40.59 like during the hurricane relief, 00:42:40.66\00:42:41.99 we did run on generator, 00:42:42.02\00:42:43.36 but usually we plug right into the building. 00:42:43.43\00:42:45.53 And, you know, I do wanna comment, 00:42:45.56\00:42:48.83 part of the reason why we're able to get that trailer 00:42:48.86\00:42:50.87 is because of the 3ABN viewers. 00:42:50.90\00:42:52.93 It was on 3ABN today, we talked about the vision, 00:42:52.97\00:42:56.27 there was a particular viewer that said, 00:42:56.30\00:43:00.28 I'll donate to you guys and $16,500 right there. 00:43:00.31\00:43:03.45 Praise God. 00:43:03.48\00:43:04.81 And another individual said, if you raise $17,500, 00:43:04.85\00:43:08.72 we'll match you. 00:43:08.75\00:43:10.69 We could pray that I conducted and shared the vision, 00:43:10.72\00:43:13.39 he said, "If you can match this, 00:43:13.46\00:43:16.46 I'll give you the other half," 00:43:16.49\00:43:17.83 and we were able to raise to $40,000 00:43:17.86\00:43:20.40 and a little about over... 00:43:20.43\00:43:22.03 It was I mean, we have the commitments there, 00:43:22.06\00:43:24.50 pretty much very quickly. 00:43:24.53\00:43:27.34 3ABN viewers have big hearts. 00:43:27.37\00:43:29.10 They've been a blessing. They do. 00:43:29.14\00:43:30.61 And, you know, the most amazing thing to me 00:43:30.64\00:43:33.41 is that we have a program called Blessings On The Go, 00:43:33.48\00:43:36.64 our monthly and that's what keeps us, 00:43:36.68\00:43:39.71 that's what keeps our doors open. 00:43:39.75\00:43:41.38 It's these monthly donations that are consistent, 00:43:41.42\00:43:44.75 and sometimes people who write and say, 00:43:44.79\00:43:49.22 "I can only give $5 a month" 00:43:49.26\00:43:51.13 or "I can give $10 a month," 00:43:51.16\00:43:53.40 and you realize what they're giving up 00:43:53.43\00:43:56.13 to even be able to do that. 00:43:56.16\00:43:58.07 And we just thank you from bottom of our hearts 00:43:58.10\00:44:00.57 for your generosity 00:44:00.64\00:44:02.14 and, you know, the Lord's going to... 00:44:02.17\00:44:04.71 He is smiling on that, I'll put it that way. 00:44:04.74\00:44:06.47 It's amazing what we had a vision, 00:44:06.51\00:44:08.34 that vision was fulfilled because of 3ABN. 00:44:08.38\00:44:10.38 Amen, praise God. 00:44:10.45\00:44:12.01 Thank you for saying that. 00:44:12.05\00:44:13.42 Now this trailer though, 00:44:13.45\00:44:14.85 you are in need of a truck 00:44:14.88\00:44:18.55 that's a pick-up F-250 or equivalent? 00:44:18.59\00:44:21.02 Yeah, F-250 equivalent truck 00:44:21.06\00:44:23.56 at least can tow up to 12,000 pounds 00:44:23.63\00:44:25.86 because right now we're struggling in... 00:44:25.89\00:44:29.06 Because we've had to rent trucks, 00:44:29.10\00:44:30.87 and it's a big chunk of money 00:44:30.90\00:44:32.77 to have to rent all the time in transport, 00:44:32.80\00:44:35.24 so we're at that point we're like, 00:44:35.27\00:44:36.60 you know, we need to cut this cost, 00:44:36.64\00:44:37.97 let's fundraise for the truck. 00:44:38.01\00:44:39.37 So actually we have SALT day coming up. 00:44:39.41\00:44:42.94 It's every May 13th is SALT day, 00:44:42.98\00:44:47.22 and so we're gonna fundraise for certain project 00:44:47.25\00:44:49.58 and the project this year would be, 00:44:49.62\00:44:52.42 it's gonna be the truck. 00:44:52.45\00:44:53.79 It's gonna be the truck. Yep. 00:44:53.86\00:44:55.19 All right, I just have to ask this 00:44:55.22\00:44:57.13 because you're both... 00:44:57.16\00:44:59.13 If I were the mother of either one of you, I would be... 00:44:59.16\00:45:02.76 My heart would be bursting with joy and pride 00:45:02.80\00:45:06.10 in how you are investing your life 00:45:06.13\00:45:10.34 in the lives of others for the glory of God. 00:45:10.41\00:45:13.17 Tell me, how being involved with SALT, tell our audience, 00:45:13.21\00:45:19.68 how it has changed your life. 00:45:19.71\00:45:22.85 You wanna go first or you want me to? 00:45:22.88\00:45:24.22 Yeah, I mean, I could go, for me, 00:45:24.29\00:45:26.52 I've been in fulltime ministry 00:45:26.55\00:45:27.99 for the last eight to nine years, 00:45:28.02\00:45:30.63 and when I experienced Christ for the first time 00:45:30.66\00:45:33.90 at the youth conference, I realized like, 00:45:33.93\00:45:35.73 my life isn't about myself and my pleasure, 00:45:35.76\00:45:38.20 it's about what God has fulfilled, 00:45:38.23\00:45:41.24 you know, what he wants to fulfill through me. 00:45:41.27\00:45:43.14 And so, you know, I've been a chaplain, 00:45:43.17\00:45:44.74 I've been a Bible teacher, 00:45:44.77\00:45:46.41 you know, I am an evangelist as well 00:45:46.44\00:45:48.08 for soul outreach, and I travel and speak. 00:45:48.11\00:45:50.98 But I realize that it's when you actually 00:45:51.01\00:45:53.52 take time to meet the needs of the people 00:45:53.55\00:45:56.79 that God reveals a lot about yourself 00:45:56.82\00:45:58.59 that you didn't realize you had it, 00:45:58.62\00:46:00.49 you know, and the pride, the selfishness, 00:46:00.56\00:46:02.52 so all of those things are kind of removed to side 00:46:02.56\00:46:04.73 when you're focusing on somebody else. 00:46:04.76\00:46:07.10 And so my relationship with God 00:46:07.13\00:46:08.93 ever since I joined SALT has transcended to a place 00:46:08.96\00:46:12.97 where I've never thought I would have. 00:46:13.00\00:46:15.07 And I always encourage people, listen, 00:46:15.10\00:46:16.74 service isn't necessarily designed to bless others, 00:46:16.81\00:46:20.41 it's designed for you, 00:46:20.48\00:46:21.81 God used that as a means to save you. 00:46:21.84\00:46:23.18 Amen. 00:46:23.21\00:46:24.55 And if it wasn't for an organization like SALT, 00:46:24.58\00:46:26.55 if I wasn't in full time evangelism the way that I am, 00:46:26.58\00:46:29.52 I don't think I'll be in the church, 00:46:29.55\00:46:31.02 I would have been just a pew-warmer. 00:46:31.05\00:46:32.72 But God has shown me like this is the means 00:46:32.75\00:46:36.16 of understanding who you are in me, 00:46:36.19\00:46:38.39 but most importantly, 00:46:38.43\00:46:39.76 what I'm gonna try to develop. 00:46:39.79\00:46:41.13 And the only way that I could have been done, 00:46:41.16\00:46:42.50 that took place and happen is through service, 00:46:42.53\00:46:44.70 and so I feel like I've become a different person 00:46:44.73\00:46:48.14 because of it. 00:46:48.17\00:46:49.50 Oh, you've become a wonderful man. 00:46:49.54\00:46:50.91 And I understand Jesus even much more 00:46:50.94\00:46:52.27 when he says certain things, 00:46:52.31\00:46:53.64 it's like, "Man, God, I understand 00:46:53.68\00:46:55.01 what you're talking about now," 00:46:55.04\00:46:56.38 and it's only when it's those situations 00:46:56.41\00:46:57.75 where you're focusing on others and the betterment of... 00:46:57.78\00:47:01.62 You know, for the betterment of other people 00:47:01.65\00:47:03.52 and fulfilling the commission 00:47:03.59\00:47:04.92 that the God could do that transformation 00:47:04.95\00:47:06.42 that he desires to accomplish. 00:47:06.45\00:47:07.79 You know, service doesn't save us, 00:47:07.82\00:47:10.26 only the blood of Jesus, only Christ can save us. 00:47:10.33\00:47:13.60 But service does transform us. 00:47:13.63\00:47:16.67 I mean, ministry is transforming 00:47:16.70\00:47:20.07 because it is a way that Jesus uses 00:47:20.14\00:47:25.24 to work his character into our hearts 00:47:25.27\00:47:29.48 and, you know, that's the beauty. 00:47:29.51\00:47:31.48 So, for you, you are pretty much 00:47:31.51\00:47:33.28 a brand new Christian. 00:47:33.31\00:47:34.65 You're an old Christian when you started this, so... 00:47:34.68\00:47:36.15 I was, yeah. 00:47:36.18\00:47:37.52 It's just like natural to you, 00:47:37.59\00:47:38.99 part of the natural Christian life. 00:47:39.02\00:47:40.49 Yeah, it is. 00:47:40.56\00:47:42.56 And, you know, to be honest, without service, 00:47:42.59\00:47:47.00 I don't know if I would be in the church, 00:47:47.03\00:47:49.56 you know, I don't know where I would be. 00:47:49.60\00:47:51.57 To be honest with you, if I was not serving, 00:47:51.60\00:47:53.47 if I was not so... 00:47:53.54\00:47:54.87 I believe there is a capacity 00:47:54.90\00:47:56.94 at which everyone's able to serve, 00:47:57.01\00:47:58.87 you know, and some people's capacity is larger 00:47:58.91\00:48:03.28 and some people's is maybe not as large. 00:48:03.35\00:48:05.51 But if I wasn't using my full capacity for service, 00:48:05.55\00:48:10.79 the enemy would have it. 00:48:10.82\00:48:12.15 Yep. 00:48:12.19\00:48:13.56 And I don't know where I would be, 00:48:13.59\00:48:15.96 so I owe a lot to, you know, God putting me in this place 00:48:15.99\00:48:20.80 and to be able to run SALT, it's definitely transforming, 00:48:20.83\00:48:24.97 it's kept me here, 00:48:25.00\00:48:26.33 and my relationship with God is still alive, 00:48:26.37\00:48:30.01 you know, and so... 00:48:30.04\00:48:31.37 You know, that's how we feel, 00:48:31.41\00:48:32.74 we talk about this quite often that sometimes people say, 00:48:32.77\00:48:35.48 "When are you gonna retire?" 00:48:35.51\00:48:36.95 "They have to kick us out of here" 00:48:36.98\00:48:38.38 'cause, waking up every day with purpose... 00:48:38.41\00:48:44.19 Because of that purpose every day. 00:48:44.22\00:48:46.25 And that purpose is never removed. 00:48:46.29\00:48:47.66 Yeah. 00:48:47.69\00:48:49.02 And the Lord turbo charges that all the time, 00:48:49.06\00:48:51.86 you know, continues to energize you, 00:48:51.89\00:48:53.90 and he continues to open up doors. 00:48:53.93\00:48:56.40 And he loves hearing from us and what are our needs 00:48:56.43\00:48:59.87 and so that we should say, "Lord, this is your plan, 00:48:59.90\00:49:03.81 we're just selling here your mouthpiece or feet, 00:49:03.84\00:49:06.98 or hands," and I go back to this, 00:49:07.01\00:49:09.88 I absolutely love this logo, 00:49:09.91\00:49:11.68 Service And Love Together. 00:49:11.71\00:49:14.25 I mean. 00:49:14.32\00:49:15.65 And that is the salt of the earth, 00:49:15.68\00:49:17.19 whenever we do, I'll do that. 00:49:17.22\00:49:20.76 Yes, I do care, and then we're working together. 00:49:20.79\00:49:25.09 One becomes two, two becomes three, 00:49:25.13\00:49:26.83 three becomes a hundred, and before you know it, 00:49:26.90\00:49:28.70 we're fulfilling the great commission 00:49:28.73\00:49:30.27 that God has... 00:49:30.30\00:49:31.63 You're a math teacher. 00:49:31.67\00:49:33.00 Yep, exactly. 00:49:33.03\00:49:35.84 What we want to do 00:49:35.87\00:49:37.77 is we have the address for SALT. 00:49:37.81\00:49:43.88 If you would like to have either Eric or Lo-Ammi, 00:49:43.95\00:49:47.75 come to your church or do a week of prayer 00:49:47.78\00:49:50.29 or any evangelistic series or just come 00:49:50.32\00:49:53.86 and talk about this, you can contact them here. 00:49:53.89\00:49:56.76 But my heart, I just know, as you said, 3ABN, 00:49:56.83\00:50:01.30 God uses his people, the 3ABN viewers. 00:50:01.33\00:50:04.80 And I believe that there's somebody out there 00:50:04.83\00:50:07.44 that the Holy Spirit is inspiring right now, 00:50:07.47\00:50:10.31 maybe they are on a car dealership 00:50:10.34\00:50:13.17 and you could even contribute an F-250, I mean, 00:50:13.21\00:50:17.68 donate that. 00:50:17.71\00:50:19.05 But if you would like to donate and support this cause, 00:50:19.08\00:50:25.55 here's how you can get in touch with these young men.
