I want to spend my life 00:00:01.60\00:00:06.80 Mending broken people 00:00:07.40\00:00:12.27 I want to spend my life 00:00:12.34\00:00:17.91 Removing pain 00:00:18.65\00:00:23.18 Lord, let my words 00:00:23.82\00:00:28.76 Heal a heart that hurts 00:00:30.03\00:00:33.96 I want to spend my life 00:00:34.46\00:00:39.37 Mending broken people 00:00:40.30\00:00:44.74 I want to spend my life 00:00:45.67\00:00:50.55 Mending broken people 00:00:51.28\00:00:56.05 - Hello and welcome to another 3ABN Today 00:01:09.00\00:01:11.43 program. We are so glad that you have 00:01:11.53\00:01:13.97 joined us. Why is that? Well, for one thing, you're 00:01:14.04\00:01:16.84 our friends and our family, and we just want to say 00:01:16.94\00:01:19.81 thank you for your support and prayers 00:01:19.87\00:01:21.41 for the ministry of 3ABN. It's making a difference 00:01:21.48\00:01:24.48 around the world, and that's an incredible thing 00:01:24.51\00:01:27.08 to think about-technology and how it spreads. A long 00:01:27.18\00:01:30.05 time ago, or over 30 years ago when God 00:01:30.12\00:01:33.39 gave Danny the impression to build a station that 00:01:33.49\00:01:35.96 would reach the world for Jesus Christ and 00:01:36.02\00:01:37.79 spread the gospel around the world, it is mainly by 00:01:37.86\00:01:39.59 satellite. Now, we have our cell phones, which- 00:01:39.66\00:01:42.00 good for me! I don't have my cell phone 00:01:42.06\00:01:43.60 with me today. It's supposed to be off 00:01:43.67\00:01:45.00 the set. Do you have yours? - Mine's here. - Good for you. 00:01:45.07\00:01:47.44 [laughter] Anyway, you can watch 3ABN on your cell phones. 00:01:47.50\00:01:50.27 It's 24 hours a day over the radio, over the internet... 00:01:50.34\00:01:54.04 It's really incredible. Even while we sleep 00:01:54.11\00:01:55.84 at night, the gospel is being spread around 00:01:55.88\00:01:59.08 the world, so we want to again just say thank 00:01:59.15\00:02:01.05 you for that, and thank you for being our family, 00:02:01.12\00:02:02.65 too. Because without you, 3ABN wouldn't 00:02:02.72\00:02:05.15 be here. And of course, we're always, always 00:02:05.25\00:02:07.29 so thankful for you. Today, we're talking 00:02:07.39\00:02:08.86 about SALT. And to be honest with you, I like 00:02:08.92\00:02:13.13 SALT, as in SALT from the shaker. - He does. - I- 00:02:13.19\00:02:16.87 you know, people say, "in moderation," right? 00:02:16.93\00:02:19.07 So, you're supposed to have it in moderation. 00:02:19.13\00:02:20.50 I do like salt, but we're not talking 00:02:20.54\00:02:21.87 about salt... - No. - ...that's going on 00:02:21.90\00:02:23.47 food. This is an incredible ministry, and we're excited, 00:02:23.57\00:02:26.68 'cause we have some long-time friends with 00:02:26.74\00:02:28.74 us, as well; plus, we've just met some new friends. 00:02:28.81\00:02:31.31 - Thank you for saying long-time friends. I 00:02:31.41\00:02:33.45 really- that really makes me feel young still, so you 00:02:33.52\00:02:36.02 did a very good job, sweetheart. - You know, 00:02:36.08\00:02:37.95 a lot of times, we tend to say "old friends," 00:02:37.99\00:02:39.55 and then what does that make us? I guess that 00:02:39.59\00:02:40.92 makes us old, too, so long-term sounds a 00:02:40.96\00:02:43.09 little better. - I love the Today program, 00:02:43.16\00:02:44.99 because we get to feature ministries. 00:02:45.03\00:02:46.80 We get to share with you at home what God 00:02:46.90\00:02:49.56 is doing in and around the world, and this 00:02:49.63\00:02:53.40 ministry is no exception. SALT, which stands for 00:02:53.50\00:02:56.40 Soul Winning and Leadership Training... - It's an acronym. 00:02:56.47\00:02:59.81 - And we - it's an acronym; that's right - and we want 00:02:59.87\00:03:01.48 to introduce them to you at this time. Right 00:03:01.54\00:03:04.21 on this side is Pastor Douglas Na'a, and 00:03:04.28\00:03:07.05 this is one of the long-term friends, we 00:03:07.12\00:03:09.42 could say. We went to school together 20 years 00:03:09.52\00:03:11.59 ago! - Yeah, I have a lot of fond memories. 00:03:11.65\00:03:13.69 - Yeah. You know, it's interesting, 'cause 00:03:13.76\00:03:15.56 just before we went on the program, we were 00:03:15.62\00:03:16.96 talking about how we were in the dorm together. - Yes! 00:03:16.99\00:03:19.43 - Whoever would've thought?...It's been 00:03:19.49\00:03:21.30 years ago now, right? We're not old! Okay, it 00:03:21.36\00:03:23.10 must've been a long time ago. - That's right. 00:03:23.16\00:03:25.07 - We were in the dorm together, and then here 00:03:25.13\00:03:27.00 we are, sitting on the set. It's incredible. - And you 00:03:27.04\00:03:30.01 are the director of SALT. - So, I direct the SALT 00:03:30.07\00:03:32.64 program - the Soul Winning and Leadership Training program 00:03:32.71\00:03:34.51 which runs from August to December on the campus 00:03:35.21\00:03:37.41 of Southern Adventist University. Wonderful 00:03:37.51\00:03:39.78 program; great partnership between It Is Written and 00:03:39.81\00:03:44.05 the School of Religion of Southern Adventist University. 00:03:44.15\00:03:46.39 So, it's my privilege to direct the program. 00:03:46.42\00:03:48.52 - Amen. - Glad you're here. 00:03:49.02\00:03:50.96 - Absolutely excited to have you here. 00:03:51.03\00:03:53.16 And sitting next to you is another long-term 00:03:53.23\00:03:55.46 friend and your wife, especially: this is Dr. 00:03:55.53\00:03:58.50 Alan Parker. You're a professor of religion 00:03:58.57\00:04:00.34 at Southern Adventist University, and it's a 00:04:00.40\00:04:02.60 joy to have you here. - Well, that's right- 00:04:02.70\00:04:04.47 I'm glad to be here; and my wife would 00:04:04.54\00:04:06.21 have loved to have been here. She knows both of you 00:04:06.27\00:04:08.61 for a while, now. [laughter] - That's good, too; I like 00:04:09.28\00:04:11.91 that! - And if you detect an accent on this side, that's 00:04:12.01\00:04:16.02 'cause we're mixing in New Zealand and South African. 00:04:16.08\00:04:18.62 So, that's part of what you get when you come 00:04:19.29\00:04:20.79 to Southern Adventist University; there's a lot 00:04:20.89\00:04:22.49 of different accents. You know, and some 00:04:22.56\00:04:24.73 people may remember you, also, 'cause you were in 00:04:24.79\00:04:26.73 charge of AFCOE, correct? Or at Amazing Facts. - So, 00:04:26.83\00:04:29.93 when I was at Amazing Facts, I was the director 00:04:30.03\00:04:32.63 of the College of Evangelism- the end of the evangelism 00:04:32.73\00:04:35.20 program in general-moved to Southern, and I had a 00:04:35.30\00:04:37.91 student who said, "Man, we'd love to do something 00:04:38.01\00:04:40.31 like that here," and that was the beginning 00:04:40.41\00:04:42.61 of doing the SALT program at Southern. - And how many 00:04:42.71\00:04:46.51 years ago was that? I know we're going to get 00:04:46.58\00:04:47.92 into this a little deeper; but how many years ago 00:04:47.95\00:04:49.28 was that? - 2011 was when we began. It was 00:04:49.32\00:04:51.92 just incredible, because John Bradshaw was actually 00:04:52.02\00:04:53.82 coming through. We just had a tornado, and that 00:04:53.92\00:04:56.36 tornado had come through, and John Bradshaw was 00:04:56.46\00:04:58.43 coming in to interview some people who had 00:04:58.49\00:05:00.50 survived the tornado. And he said, "Hey, 00:05:00.56\00:05:03.00 you want to stop by for breakfast?" And over 00:05:03.06\00:05:04.63 breakfast, we talked about SALT, and he said, "Why 00:05:04.73\00:05:07.77 don't we do a partnership?" And that's how it began. 00:05:07.87\00:05:09.60 - Oh, wow. - You know, it's really neat to see 00:05:09.67\00:05:11.87 what God does, you know? It was just over breakfast, 00:05:11.94\00:05:14.31 and then look where SALT is now. I know we're going 00:05:14.41\00:05:16.48 to get some more details, and it's really exciting 00:05:16.58\00:05:18.01 what God is doing. - It is! What year did you come to 00:05:18.11\00:05:19.88 Southern? - So, 2007. - 2007... And what classes 00:05:19.95\00:05:23.82 do you teach there? - So I teach Christian spirituality, 00:05:23.92\00:05:26.32 I will teach church ministry for theology students, I teach 00:05:27.22\00:05:30.73 life and teachings of Jesus, some evangelism classes... 00:05:30.79\00:05:33.90 So, it's just a variety. - Amen. - You're busy. 00:05:34.00\00:05:36.53 - It does keep me busy. - Absolutely. And I know 00:05:36.60\00:05:38.70 your wife, Nicole. If you watch 3ABN at all, 00:05:38.77\00:05:41.20 you might have seen her. She's on A Multitude of 00:05:41.27\00:05:43.54 Counselors and does an incredible job. She has 00:05:43.64\00:05:47.11 a heart for people and a heart for ministry, 00:05:47.21\00:05:49.84 and you have several kids at home, too. - Yes, four 00:05:49.94\00:05:52.48 kids. We just adopted a child from Ukraine; 00:05:52.58\00:05:56.35 he's 16, and then we have three biological 00:05:56.45\00:05:58.99 kids. - Amen. - So, it's very loud and very exciting 00:05:59.09\00:06:01.76 at home. [laughter] - And before we get to the rest 00:06:01.86\00:06:04.69 of our guests, Pastor Doug, tell us about your 00:06:04.73\00:06:07.16 wife and family, too; we missed that at the 00:06:07.23\00:06:09.03 beginning. - Yeah, so I'm married to my beautiful 00:06:09.13\00:06:11.77 wife, Meliana Na'a, and we'll be married 14 years 00:06:11.87\00:06:15.04 now. - Yay. - Congratulations. - Yeah. We married in Auckland, 00:06:15.14\00:06:18.74 New Zealand. And right after we got married, 00:06:18.84\00:06:21.14 then we came over to Andrews University into 00:06:21.24\00:06:25.01 the seminary. And ever since then, we pastored 00:06:25.11\00:06:28.65 in different conferences, and now got the call to... 00:06:28.72\00:06:31.92 - ...be the director... - ...be the director for the 00:06:32.02\00:06:34.59 SALT program. - Amen. And have you been there 00:06:34.66\00:06:36.49 since 2011 when they began, or no? When did 00:06:36.56\00:06:38.49 you start there? - No, it's been going on two 00:06:38.56\00:06:39.89 years now since I've been there. - Amen. Okay. And 00:06:39.93\00:06:43.60 then we have Jeremy Clark sitting next to Dr. Parker. 00:06:43.70\00:06:46.37 You graduated from SALT just recently! - Yeah, in 00:06:46.43\00:06:50.71 2018. What a blessed experience it was to be 00:06:50.77\00:06:55.54 able to attend. - Amen. - Well, we're excited to 00:06:55.61\00:06:57.75 get into your story and your experience at SALT. 00:06:57.81\00:07:01.38 So, tell us about your family, too, since we're 00:07:01.45\00:07:03.25 talking about families. So, you're married. 00:07:03.35\00:07:04.89 - I'm married - 22 years. - Congratulations! - I have 00:07:04.95\00:07:08.29 four. We've got a 7-year-old, a 14-year-old, a 19-year-old, 00:07:08.36\00:07:15.56 and a 22-year-old. So, across the gamut there. 00:07:15.70\00:07:19.23 - Yeah. [laughter] For sure. And what do you call home? 00:07:19.30\00:07:21.40 - Right now, we are living in a little town near Mountain 00:07:21.50\00:07:26.07 Grove, Missouri, and we are potentially moving 00:07:26.17\00:07:29.94 to Indianapolis. - Wow. That's neat. - We can't 00:07:30.05\00:07:34.32 wait to hear why God brought you to SALT 00:07:34.42\00:07:37.32 and what happened, your experiences there, and then 00:07:37.45\00:07:40.72 what God's doing in your life now. But before we 00:07:40.82\00:07:42.72 get to all of that, we have one more guest to 00:07:42.79\00:07:44.63 introduce. This is Elizabeth Rivas. - Yes! - And you 00:07:44.69\00:07:48.10 graduated from SALT just recently, as well? - Yes! 00:07:48.16\00:07:50.53 Same class as Jeremy, so 2018. I was so lucky 00:07:50.60\00:07:54.44 that God brought me around to the SALT program, 'cause 00:07:54.54\00:07:58.27 I was... No, there was no- I had no idea I was 00:07:59.27\00:08:02.88 going to do that, but He worked it out for 00:08:02.94\00:08:04.61 us, so... - Amen. And where is home for you? 00:08:04.71\00:08:06.45 - Chattanooga; in Chattanooga, Tennessee right now. - So, 00:08:06.55\00:08:09.22 you didn't have to go far to go to school? - Not too 00:08:09.32\00:08:10.89 far, no. [laughter] - That's nice. Not much 00:08:10.95\00:08:14.16 of a travel, for sure, to get to class and stuff. 00:08:14.26\00:08:16.22 That's great. Yeah, we're looking forward to getting 00:08:16.32\00:08:17.79 to the stories. There's a scripture that we wanted 00:08:17.89\00:08:19.66 that goes right along with... - Yes! Thank you. - I'm gonna 00:08:19.73\00:08:21.43 guess. Don't you- it probably has something 00:08:21.53\00:08:23.30 to do with salt. - It has something to do with salt. 00:08:23.40\00:08:25.50 We're going to look at Matthew chapter 5 verse 00:08:25.57\00:08:28.54 13 - part of Jesus' Sermon on the Mount. This is just 00:08:28.60\00:08:30.77 after all the Beatitudes. Then, He says, "You are 00:08:30.87\00:08:33.74 the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its 00:08:33.84\00:08:36.41 flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then 00:08:36.51\00:08:39.01 good for nothing but to be thrown out and 00:08:39.11\00:08:41.58 trampled underfoot by men." Why did you pick that scripture? 00:08:41.65\00:08:46.12 Of course, it says, "You are the salt of the earth," 00:08:46.22\00:08:47.99 but...any specific reason? - You know, one of the great 00:08:48.06\00:08:50.66 things about that scripture is it tells you what to do and 00:08:50.73\00:08:54.13 what not to do. So, it tells you that God has 00:08:54.23\00:08:57.37 to transform your life so that you can be salt. 00:08:57.47\00:08:59.57 But if you don't let that transformation take place, 00:08:59.67\00:09:02.50 you're going to be good for nothing, you know? 00:09:02.60\00:09:04.94 And I think so many of us have had an experience 00:09:05.04\00:09:07.74 with Jesus, but we've lost that. And when we 00:09:07.84\00:09:10.58 do evangelism and witnessing, that experience comes back. 00:09:10.68\00:09:13.72 That's how we get our seasoning back. So, we 00:09:13.78\00:09:15.65 don't want to be good for nothing; we want 00:09:15.72\00:09:17.05 to be good for something. - Amen. So, take us back 00:09:17.09\00:09:19.45 to the story behind the birth of SALT. I know 00:09:19.55\00:09:22.22 you said over breakfast, you were with Pastor 00:09:22.32\00:09:24.46 John Bradshaw, and it was kind of born from 00:09:24.56\00:09:26.36 that; but there must have been a reason or 00:09:26.43\00:09:28.76 a... Did you see a need for more soul-winning 00:09:28.86\00:09:31.43 evangelism, or...? What was the purpose? - Yes; 00:09:31.53\00:09:34.30 so as we were sitting down together, we sort 00:09:34.40\00:09:37.34 of shared a dream that anyone could do evangelism 00:09:37.44\00:09:40.81 training, and we said, "How could that happen?" 00:09:40.91\00:09:43.91 We looked at the beautiful campus of Southern, and we 00:09:44.01\00:09:46.98 said, "It'd be great if it could happen right 00:09:47.05\00:09:48.42 here. You've got a school of religion that's very 00:09:48.52\00:09:51.19 dedicated to the Bible, that's dedicated to the 00:09:51.32\00:09:53.25 mission of the Bible, and then you have this 00:09:53.36\00:09:56.19 evangelistic fervor and passion of It Is Written. 00:09:56.29\00:09:58.96 What would happen if we combined those two and 00:09:59.03\00:10:01.66 that you could get people from the ages of 17 to 00:10:01.73\00:10:04.17 77, coming together?" Get credits for it if they want 00:10:04.27\00:10:09.07 them, or just come and attend the program. There's nothing 00:10:09.14\00:10:13.11 like that out there, so we said, "If we could 00:10:13.17\00:10:14.78 create a program that would bring together the 00:10:14.84\00:10:17.61 deep theology with the evangelistic experience, 00:10:17.68\00:10:20.45 and then make it for everyone? Then, there'd 00:10:20.55\00:10:22.98 be no excuse for somebody not to get trained," and that 00:10:23.08\00:10:25.85 was our goal. - Mm, wow. So you said from 17 to 77. 00:10:25.95\00:10:30.53 [laughter] So in other words, that's basically 00:10:30.63\00:10:33.03 almost all ages then! 'Cause some people, 00:10:33.13\00:10:35.70 I think, you know, at home, they could be 00:10:35.76\00:10:37.27 tuning in right today and saying, "Oh, that's... I'm 00:10:37.37\00:10:40.34 way too old to be able to do that. That's all 00:10:40.40\00:10:43.37 for the young folk," but you're saying no. - No. 00:10:43.44\00:10:45.64 - Definitely not. We've actually had people take 00:10:45.74\00:10:48.54 the SALT program, for example, even last year, 00:10:48.61\00:10:51.55 we had, basically, a 50-year-old, we had 00:10:51.65\00:10:55.45 some in their 40s and their 30s...in the past 00:10:55.55\00:10:58.19 two years. And so we've had a diversity of ages. 00:10:58.29\00:11:02.12 I think the assumption is that because it's 00:11:02.19\00:11:04.09 on a college campus, it's only for students- 00:11:04.16\00:11:07.40 but far from it. We've had a diversity of ages 00:11:07.50\00:11:10.30 take the SALT program. That's the wonderful thing; 00:11:10.37\00:11:12.27 it's open for all ages. Everybody needs to be 00:11:12.37\00:11:14.30 a salt of the earth. - Yeah. Wow. Yeah, 00:11:14.40\00:11:17.87 I mean that's- I think to me, that's incredible, 00:11:17.97\00:11:19.71 because a lot of times, I think we can become 00:11:19.77\00:11:21.88 discouraged and think that, "Okay, this is it; 00:11:21.94\00:11:24.85 God can't use me anymore..." But there's always hope. 00:11:24.95\00:11:28.22 So then what happens? So you realize then that 00:11:28.28\00:11:29.85 there is a need, that there's nothing out there 00:11:29.95\00:11:32.55 like this, then we can do something about it... Then 00:11:32.62\00:11:34.82 what happens? - So he said, "Let's put It Is 00:11:34.92\00:11:37.39 Written support behind it." I was able to go back to 00:11:37.46\00:11:40.20 the university with that support, and they voted 00:11:40.26\00:11:44.47 it incredibly quickly. I mean, there is some 00:11:44.53\00:11:46.90 bureaucracy at universities. - Oh, yeah! - But that 00:11:46.97\00:11:50.31 bureaucracy went through very quickly; and by that 00:11:50.41\00:11:52.74 fall, we were offering our very first program. 00:11:52.81\00:11:55.81 I had a couple of prized students of mine who 00:11:55.88\00:11:59.68 were willing to help with the program at almost 00:11:59.78\00:12:01.58 no pay just because they believed in the vision. And 00:12:01.65\00:12:04.69 once we started the program, the word got 00:12:04.75\00:12:06.55 out, and every year we've had a great class. - Amen. 00:12:06.65\00:12:09.52 So what is different about SALT than some of the other 00:12:09.62\00:12:12.09 evangelistic training programs that are 00:12:12.16\00:12:14.56 around the world? I know you mentioned one already; 00:12:14.63\00:12:16.83 that's so you can get college credit, and it's 00:12:16.93\00:12:18.53 connected with the college campus. But what else would 00:12:18.60\00:12:20.20 be different? - I think one of the things that 00:12:20.27\00:12:22.34 separate SALT is this is the only four-month Bible 00:12:22.40\00:12:25.47 training program we have left, and also the fact that 00:12:25.57\00:12:27.78 it's connected to an institution. We get so 00:12:27.91\00:12:31.71 many calls from conferences, pastors, presidents, looking 00:12:31.78\00:12:36.79 for effective Bible workers, and so even 00:12:36.85\00:12:39.35 they know- they call the SALT program, looking for Bible 00:12:39.45\00:12:42.86 work. So, I think it's the only one left here 00:12:42.99\00:12:45.43 in the North American Division, I believe. - Wow. 00:12:45.53\00:12:48.30 - So, that's a wonderful uniqueness. - And with 00:12:48.36\00:12:50.87 that, something that makes the program unique is that 00:12:50.97\00:12:54.27 you get mentoring. So, every time you go into 00:12:54.37\00:12:56.60 the field, there's somebody to work with you. When you 00:12:56.67\00:12:59.64 give a Bible study, there's someone sitting in on that 00:12:59.74\00:13:01.84 Bible study. So, you're not out there alone. 00:13:01.94\00:13:04.75 There are some online options, which is good 00:13:04.85\00:13:07.12 if that's all you can do; but this gives you the 00:13:07.22\00:13:10.15 opportunity to have somebody actually walk alongside of you. 00:13:10.25\00:13:12.99 - Amen. What would you learn if you went to SALT? 00:13:13.09\00:13:15.16 What would you learn? - We learn a lot of things, 00:13:15.26\00:13:17.79 but basically, SALT program teaches you 00:13:17.89\00:13:21.60 to know your faith, share your faith, and 00:13:21.70\00:13:24.33 defend your faith. And when we talk about 00:13:24.40\00:13:26.03 defending, we're not talking about debating people into 00:13:26.10\00:13:27.74 the faith; we're talking about answering people's 00:13:27.80\00:13:29.90 objections in a Christlike and in a winsome way. 00:13:30.01\00:13:33.07 And not only that, but the wonderful thing about 00:13:33.17\00:13:36.75 the SALT program - it combines the theoretical 00:13:36.81\00:13:39.51 and the practical. So, it's not just the- when 00:13:39.58\00:13:42.02 we talk about knowing your faith, we're not 00:13:42.12\00:13:43.52 talking about intellectual knowledge; we're talking 00:13:43.62\00:13:45.72 about experiential knowledge. And so, when the students 00:13:45.79\00:13:49.52 come and take the SALT program, they actually get 00:13:49.66\00:13:51.73 to experience Adventism. It's one thing knowing 00:13:51.83\00:13:54.36 about the three angels' messages-but have you 00:13:54.50\00:13:56.43 experienced the three angel's messages? - Wow. 00:13:56.50\00:13:58.20 - That's deep. - And so, we really want the students 00:13:58.30\00:14:01.74 to experience, and I think that's what we 00:14:01.84\00:14:04.41 need today: we need an experiential knowledge 00:14:04.54\00:14:06.44 of Jesus, not just the theoretical knowledge. 00:14:06.51\00:14:08.14 - I agree. - And so, that's one of the things that's 00:14:08.21\00:14:10.75 highly emphasized in this whole program. 00:14:10.85\00:14:13.18 I think one of the strongpoints of this whole program on top 00:14:13.28\00:14:17.15 of discipleship, the mentorship, is the fact 00:14:17.25\00:14:19.72 that it's taught by proven soul winners. You've got 00:14:19.82\00:14:24.66 John Bradshaw, you've got Eric Flickinger, you've 00:14:26.29\00:14:28.60 got? you've got the It Is Written evangelists 00:14:28.70\00:14:31.37 come in and teach the SALT program. So, it has that 00:14:31.43\00:14:34.34 elemental credibility, that these are people 00:14:34.44\00:14:36.77 who know what they're talking about. They know 00:14:36.84\00:14:38.94 soul winning like the back of their hand, and 00:14:39.01\00:14:40.98 combined with the teachers at the Southern Adventist 00:14:41.04\00:14:44.38 University - School of Religion! They're not only 00:14:44.48\00:14:46.92 academic, but they, too, have proven themselves 00:14:46.98\00:14:48.72 to be effective soul winners! And so, when 00:14:48.82\00:14:51.52 you have students come to the SALT program, you know 00:14:51.59\00:14:53.82 you're being taught by the best. - Amen. - You 00:14:53.89\00:14:56.32 know you've been taught by those who have actually 00:14:56.39\00:14:58.76 proven themselves. So, the elemental credibility's 00:14:58.86\00:15:02.20 right there. These are credible teachers that 00:15:02.33\00:15:04.53 teach in the SALT program. - So then do the students 00:15:04.60\00:15:06.87 have the opportunity of going out and conducting 00:15:06.97\00:15:08.70 Bible studies in their area? - Absolutely. 00:15:08.80\00:15:10.61 - Absolutely. In fact, a great experience took 00:15:10.67\00:15:14.28 place. I remember having students go out, and they 00:15:14.34\00:15:17.75 would- some of them say, "Hey, can you come with 00:15:17.85\00:15:19.18 me?" - Sure, a little nervous about this, 00:15:19.21\00:15:20.75 like, "Oh, I don't know." - Yeah! "What do I do?" 00:15:20.85\00:15:22.72 So one student, he says, "Look. This lady, she loves 00:15:22.82\00:15:26.35 me visiting with her, but I don't know how 00:15:26.45\00:15:28.52 spiritually interested she is." And so I said, 00:15:28.59\00:15:31.39 "Alright. Let me go along." And so he starts the Bible 00:15:31.49\00:15:34.06 study, doing a great job, and then she stops him 00:15:34.13\00:15:37.27 and says, "You know, I just don't want to be 00:15:37.37\00:15:39.93 going to church and doing some of those things." 00:15:40.00\00:15:42.70 - Okay. [laughter] - And so, he was like, deer in 00:15:42.84\00:15:45.37 the headlights; but I'm there so I just felt impressed to say, 00:15:45.44\00:15:48.91 "Well, can you tell me why?" And she says, "Because 00:15:49.01\00:15:51.55 I feel that they reject me, I don't have the 00:15:51.65\00:15:53.88 nice clothes, they look at me and I just feel the 00:15:53.95\00:15:57.15 judgmentalism." And so I said, "Well, how long 00:15:57.25\00:15:59.89 has it been since you've been in church?" And it 00:15:59.95\00:16:01.96 was like over a decade. - Mm, wow. A long time. 00:16:02.02\00:16:04.19 - And so, I was then inspired to ask her 00:16:04.26\00:16:07.16 another question. I said, "Do you feel God looks at 00:16:07.26\00:16:09.46 you the same way?" And some tears just filled her 00:16:09.56\00:16:13.00 eyes, and she said... - Great question. - "Yeah. 00:16:13.10\00:16:15.07 That's exactly how I feel." So I turned back to the 00:16:15.14\00:16:17.54 student and I say, "You know, we just learnt about 00:16:17.64\00:16:20.11 the gospel the other day in class. Would you like to 00:16:20.24\00:16:22.08 share that?" So now, they're learning something 00:16:22.18\00:16:24.48 in the classroom, but they're learning to do 00:16:24.58\00:16:26.75 it in the field. So he stumbles his way through 00:16:26.85\00:16:29.48 the gospel presentation, getting more confidence 00:16:29.58\00:16:31.62 as he goes along, and then at the end, he says, 00:16:31.72\00:16:34.59 "Would it be your desire to accept Jesus Christ?" 00:16:34.69\00:16:38.69 And she says, "Yes, I would like to do that." 00:16:38.76\00:16:41.53 And she's... Tears are coming down her face, 00:16:41.66\00:16:43.60 the student is shocked because he's never seen 00:16:43.73\00:16:45.60 this before, and we're able to have a prayer 00:16:45.67\00:16:48.54 there. And it didn't end right there, because that 00:16:48.64\00:16:51.47 Sabbath, she came to church for the first time-she was 00:16:51.57\00:16:54.48 willing to take the risk- because that wasn't really 00:16:54.54\00:16:56.81 about church. It was about God. - Right. 00:16:56.91\00:16:59.41 - And then, we had meetings at the end of that month. 00:16:59.51\00:17:02.08 By the end of those meetings, she was sealing her decision 00:17:02.18\00:17:06.15 for Jesus through baptism. So, that's why we do 00:17:06.25\00:17:08.92 something like SALT. - See, this is what's really powerful 00:17:09.02\00:17:11.46 to me is that this is real-life experience. 00:17:11.53\00:17:14.23 These are not students to students in the classroom, 00:17:14.33\00:17:16.36 doing a mock Bible study; I mean, these are real 00:17:16.46\00:17:19.77 souls that are out there. They're seeing a real 00:17:19.87\00:17:22.64 conversion like you're just sharing-I mean, 00:17:22.74\00:17:24.51 that's powerful-taking place. And to me, that's 00:17:24.57\00:17:28.14 where it can get a little addictive, in a good sense 00:17:28.21\00:17:30.61 of the word, right? [Yep.] - That's why we call it the 00:17:30.68\00:17:32.58 evangelism bug. We try to infect them with it. 00:17:32.65\00:17:34.75 - Amen! And then you have it the rest of your life. 00:17:34.85\00:17:36.82 [laughter] That's great. So, I know there's different 00:17:36.89\00:17:38.69 platforms. Tell us and unpack that for us. 00:17:38.79\00:17:40.96 - Correct. So, the SALT has three separate 00:17:41.06\00:17:44.39 platforms. The first platform is what we 00:17:44.46\00:17:47.23 want everybody to experience. It gives you the full, complete 00:17:47.33\00:17:51.10 experience; and that is our 16-week fall 00:17:51.20\00:17:53.54 program from August to December. We encourage 00:17:53.64\00:17:56.71 people to take that program. - Is that 00:17:56.81\00:17:58.44 where they actually come, then? On campus? - They 00:17:58.51\00:18:00.18 come on campus. - They stay... Would it be in the 00:18:00.24\00:18:01.68 dorms, or do they have to find housing? - There 00:18:01.74\00:18:03.88 are options available, right? - Okay. - So, younger students 00:18:03.95\00:18:07.92 tend to go in the dorms, and older students will 00:18:07.98\00:18:10.12 find housing in the community. - Okay. 00:18:10.19\00:18:12.32 Good. So that's the first platform. - That's the 00:18:12.39\00:18:14.46 first platform, man. That gives you the full, complete 00:18:14.52\00:18:15.86 experience. We realize not everybody can take 16 00:18:15.89\00:18:19.36 weeks off from their work; and we have our 00:18:19.46\00:18:22.30 second platform, and that's our one-week 00:18:22.36\00:18:24.13 summer SALT program. Sometimes- that's usually 00:18:24.20\00:18:27.14 on the campus of Southern Adventist University, but 00:18:27.20\00:18:29.44 this is where local churches get to partner with the SALT 00:18:29.50\00:18:33.04 program, where they invite the SALT program to do their 00:18:33.14\00:18:35.44 church and we do a one-week training in their church, or a 00:18:35.54\00:18:39.31 long weekend training in their church that prepares 00:18:39.38\00:18:41.55 them for an upcoming evangelistic meeting. 00:18:41.62\00:18:43.22 - You go to the churches. - So, if they cannot make it 00:18:43.32\00:18:44.65 to the SALT program, SALT program can make it 00:18:44.75\00:18:46.96 to them. - I love it. - That's how it works. 00:18:47.06\00:18:50.99 A lot of churches are in need of training, in need 00:18:51.09\00:18:53.70 of revival, in need of equipping and preparing 00:18:53.76\00:18:56.30 people to know their faith, share their faith, 00:18:56.36\00:18:57.73 and defend their faith. Then, we also have our 00:18:57.83\00:19:00.44 third platform, and that is our SALT 365. That gives... 00:19:00.50\00:19:05.94 365 just simply means it's available 365 days out of 00:19:06.71\00:19:10.58 the year, and these are resources that's available 00:19:10.68\00:19:12.91 for anybody any way, any age, no matter 00:19:13.01\00:19:16.02 where you are in this world. You can 00:19:16.08\00:19:17.75 actually take some of those resources and 00:19:17.82\00:19:19.22 train your local church with the resources that 00:19:20.06\00:19:23.06 are available. - And it's online? - And it's online. 00:19:23.16\00:19:24.99 - How much does it cost? - It's free of charge. That's 00:19:25.06\00:19:27.30 the wonderful thing about SALT 365. And so we have 00:19:27.40\00:19:30.80 those three platforms that's available for 00:19:30.90\00:19:32.57 anybody to take. - Amen! Isn't that exciting? 'Cause 00:19:32.70\00:19:35.50 God wants all of us to be involved in evangelism, 00:19:35.60\00:19:38.91 you know? The Great Commission, Matthew 00:19:39.04\00:19:40.98 28... He says, "Go ye and make disciples, and 00:19:41.04\00:19:44.18 preach the gospel to the world." So, what an 00:19:44.31\00:19:46.61 incredible ministry, training soul winners 00:19:46.68\00:19:49.88 to spread the gospel to the world. So, if you want 00:19:50.49\00:19:53.96 to get involved, if you're, say, sitting at home right 00:19:54.06\00:19:57.19 now and you're saying, "I want to come to SALT 00:19:57.29\00:19:59.13 and I want to be equipped and trained," or, "I think 00:19:59.23\00:20:01.83 SALT should come to my church and train my church," 00:20:01.93\00:20:05.40 or you want any of those resources-you all have a 00:20:05.50\00:20:07.87 website. What's that website? - Our website 00:20:07.97\00:20:09.44 is simple-it's SALT.training. You don't have to put "www" 00:20:09.54\00:20:12.94 in the front, you don't have to put a ".com," 00:20:13.04\00:20:14.64 ".org," or ".net"; it's just SALT.training, 00:20:14.74\00:20:17.68 as it is. Come onto our website, and you will 00:20:17.78\00:20:21.28 see the three platforms there. We have a 16-week 00:20:21.38\00:20:24.32 program, a one-week summer SALT program, and also our 00:20:24.39\00:20:28.29 SALT 365. You can just click on which one you 00:20:28.39\00:20:31.43 prefer to take. - And what if someone wants 00:20:31.49\00:20:32.89 to call instead of visit the website? - They can 00:20:32.99\00:20:35.26 call us; they can call directly. SALT office: 00:20:35.36\00:20:37.50 That's our number, and that'll come directly to 00:20:40.54\00:20:43.37 either myself or my outreach coordinator. - Amen! Wonderful. 00:20:43.44\00:20:46.61 Well, I know we want to hear from Jeremy and 00:20:46.74\00:20:49.08 Elizabeth, and we want to get some of your story. 00:20:49.18\00:20:50.91 So, Elizabeth! Maybe we should do ladies first. 00:20:50.98\00:20:52.81 Let's hear why did you come to SALT in the first 00:20:52.91\00:20:56.48 place? Tell us why, how you found out about it, 00:20:56.58\00:20:59.09 and why you wanted to go. - Well, I lived in the area 00:20:59.15\00:21:02.02 in Chattanooga, and my dad is actually an employee 00:21:02.12\00:21:05.13 at Southern, so I heard about this program while 00:21:05.19\00:21:07.83 I was still in high school. I was interested in it, 00:21:07.93\00:21:11.30 but I wasn't sure that I wanted to commit a full 00:21:11.40\00:21:14.14 semester of college. So I kind of put it out 00:21:14.20\00:21:18.47 of my mind for a while. It's kind of a long story, 00:21:18.57\00:21:22.31 but God kind of brought it back to me several times, 00:21:22.44\00:21:25.01 and I finally made the commitment to, "Okay, 00:21:25.11\00:21:27.58 God, I'm going to take this." And what drew 00:21:27.68\00:21:30.09 me to the program in and of itself most was 00:21:30.19\00:21:33.25 the fact that they were going to enable me to be 00:21:33.36\00:21:36.99 able to share what I believed, what I had 00:21:37.09\00:21:38.69 grown up knowing, but didn't know quite how to 00:21:38.76\00:21:41.63 share it. I had seen a lot around me: people 00:21:41.70\00:21:45.97 that call themselves Christians, but they 00:21:46.10\00:21:48.77 weren't really active. I wasn't either, and I 00:21:48.87\00:21:51.97 wanted an avenue that I could become more active. 00:21:52.04\00:21:55.18 So, that's what drew me to it. - Amen...amen. 00:21:55.28\00:21:59.11 - So, describe, then, your experience then 00:21:59.21\00:22:00.88 going then and taking this. You did the 16 00:22:00.98\00:22:02.92 weeks then-is that right?- in the fall. - Yes, I did the 00:22:03.02\00:22:04.82 16-week program. - Were you scared? I mean, did 00:22:04.92\00:22:06.96 you like knocking on doors or talking to 00:22:07.02\00:22:08.36 people or having Bible studies? Did that even 00:22:08.42\00:22:09.92 make you a little bit nervous? - That's... 00:22:09.99\00:22:11.33 Yeah! A little; we could say that. That's not my 00:22:11.36\00:22:14.40 natural comfort zone to be out there and 00:22:14.50\00:22:17.00 talking to strangers, but I did feel supported. 00:22:17.10\00:22:22.64 We went out in pairs, and my partner was 00:22:22.74\00:22:26.21 almost like a grandmother to me. I was so blessed to 00:22:26.27\00:22:29.31 have her. She was very bold in her faith, and she 00:22:29.38\00:22:33.01 was very zealous for the work. And so, that kind 00:22:33.05\00:22:38.12 of gave me courage to, you know, be able to 00:22:38.19\00:22:40.62 speak to people, as well. And when we went knocking 00:22:40.69\00:22:44.16 on doors, it was a hard process, but it was very, 00:22:44.23\00:22:47.30 very much worth it. It grew me so much. I 00:22:47.36\00:22:50.97 didn't think I could do it, but we had so much support 00:22:51.07\00:22:53.30 from mentors and from the staff. It was a really good 00:22:53.37\00:22:57.11 experience, for sure. - So when you go knocking 00:22:57.21\00:22:59.71 on doors, someone at home might say, "Well, 00:22:59.81\00:23:01.41 what does that mean? What are you saying to 00:23:01.48\00:23:02.81 them when you knock on someone's door? What 00:23:02.94\00:23:04.48 happens? - Right. - So what are you doing when 00:23:04.55\00:23:05.88 you go down the street and you knock on someone's 00:23:06.08\00:23:07.42 door? - So, we go and we approach the house, 00:23:07.52\00:23:10.79 and we try to look around- maybe see what kind of 00:23:10.89\00:23:14.22 people live in it. So like, young people or, 00:23:14.32\00:23:17.13 you know, what could we say that would appeal 00:23:17.19\00:23:21.10 to them about the Bible, right? And so, we go up 00:23:21.20\00:23:23.43 to them and we offer health services through 00:23:23.50\00:23:26.94 our church or community, as well. And then we ask 00:23:27.04\00:23:30.47 if they're interested in learning about the 00:23:30.54\00:23:32.27 Bible at all. And so, if they are, then we'll 00:23:32.37\00:23:36.38 sign them up to come back and visit them 00:23:36.44\00:23:38.65 some more-we try to make connections, 00:23:38.71\00:23:40.25 establish a relationship with them-and we come 00:23:40.35\00:23:43.55 back with our mentor, as well, and we sit down 00:23:43.62\00:23:47.46 and we have a Bible study on Daniel 2 or 00:23:47.52\00:23:50.69 whatever the topic might be. It's just a really good 00:23:50.79\00:23:54.73 experience to see the people understanding 00:23:54.80\00:23:56.93 concepts about the Bible, so it's great. - How do you 00:23:57.00\00:24:00.30 think the experience changed you?-in your 00:24:00.40\00:24:02.77 own walk with God, in your own journey-how 00:24:02.90\00:24:06.64 do you think it grew you or it changed you? - It 00:24:06.74\00:24:09.21 definitely made me more confident in what God can 00:24:09.28\00:24:12.41 do through me. I was not comfortable with giving a 00:24:12.51\00:24:17.85 Bible study. That's not something that I thought 00:24:17.92\00:24:20.09 I could do, but they really showed us the 00:24:20.19\00:24:24.19 steps to doing it, what things to look for, and 00:24:24.26\00:24:27.66 how to really make it personable. So, one 00:24:27.76\00:24:31.97 time, I went to one of the doors, and I thought 00:24:32.03\00:24:34.60 it was going to be just like all the others. They're 00:24:34.67\00:24:36.40 really...you know- sometimes they're nice, 00:24:36.50\00:24:38.51 but they're not really interested, and I just 00:24:38.61\00:24:41.04 left them with the Bible study. I was, you know- 00:24:41.14\00:24:43.01 maybe they'll read it on their own. But we 00:24:43.14\00:24:45.75 kept coming back, 'cause she was like, "Yeah, please 00:24:45.85\00:24:47.72 bring more of them." It was a young lady, 00:24:47.82\00:24:49.92 and she kept studying more. And finally, one of the times, 00:24:49.98\00:24:55.66 she's like, "Yeah, can you please sit down and explain 00:24:55.76\00:24:57.59 this to me?" So we were finally able to sit down 00:24:57.66\00:25:00.80 with this lady, and I was like, "Wow, this is 00:25:00.90\00:25:02.53 actually going somewhere." And we even got down to 00:25:02.63\00:25:05.70 the topic about the Sabbath and she was like, "Wow, so 00:25:05.83\00:25:08.07 it's really- the Sabbath is about relationships! 00:25:08.17\00:25:10.74 It's not just the law." - That's good. - Praise the 00:25:10.84\00:25:13.04 Lord. - We were able to communicate that with her, 00:25:13.14\00:25:15.21 and she was like, "Yes! I really want to follow 00:25:15.28\00:25:17.15 this; I really want to get to know God more," 00:25:17.21\00:25:19.88 and she committed to start keeping the Sabbath every 00:25:19.98\00:25:22.88 week. And that, for me, was amazing, 'cause I'd 00:25:22.98\00:25:26.52 never done anything like that before, and it's really 00:25:26.62\00:25:29.02 encouraging going forward now, as well. - Amen. - That's 00:25:29.12\00:25:32.53 a powerful experience: someone to ask- 'cause 00:25:32.63\00:25:34.96 I mean, her face just radiates, so I'm thinking, 00:25:35.03\00:25:38.40 yeah, that she's caught the evangelism bug. [laughter] 00:25:39.20\00:25:42.80 - She's infected. - So you would recommend SALT to 00:25:43.61\00:25:49.34 someone else? - I would! I would. I have recommended 00:25:49.44\00:25:52.18 it to several of my friends I think. One of my friends 00:25:52.28\00:25:55.12 are coming from California, potentially, next semester 00:25:55.25\00:25:57.19 to take it, so I definitely recommend it 100%, for 00:25:57.29\00:26:00.89 sure. - And what are you going to do, moving forward? 00:26:00.99\00:26:02.82 Are you wanting to do Bible work, or are you 00:26:02.92\00:26:04.59 wanting to u- how are you going to use this, 00:26:04.69\00:26:06.80 what you've learned, going forward? - Right. 00:26:06.90\00:26:08.76 Well, long-term, I'm just happy that I have 00:26:08.86\00:26:11.23 tools in my pocket as I'm potentially going to 00:26:11.37\00:26:14.17 be in the medical field; I'll have tools to speak 00:26:14.27\00:26:16.44 to people. But more immediately, I am- 00:26:16.50\00:26:19.51 if God continues to lead that way-I'll be going to 00:26:19.61\00:26:22.24 South America next year and just spending some 00:26:22.34\00:26:26.05 time down there doing some Bible work, as well. 00:26:26.15\00:26:28.08 - Amen. - You know, this is powerful. Before we 00:26:28.18\00:26:29.75 get to Jeremy-'cause you just touched on something 00:26:29.82\00:26:31.65 that I think is really powerful, and that is 00:26:31.72\00:26:33.29 you're thinking of going into the medical field. 00:26:33.39\00:26:34.92 So, SALT is not just for someone that's really 00:26:35.02\00:26:37.43 going to do Bible work for the rest of their 00:26:37.53\00:26:39.06 life and that is their occupation, if we want 00:26:39.16\00:26:41.10 to say; you're saying this is powerful tools 00:26:41.16\00:26:43.47 in your pocket, so to speak. - For sure; yes. 00:26:43.57\00:26:45.63 - Just unpackage that just a little bit about 00:26:45.67\00:26:47.44 what you mean by that, 'cause there's a lot of 00:26:47.50\00:26:49.04 people-young people, especially-that may be 00:26:49.14\00:26:50.77 saying, "Ah, that's not the profession or work 00:26:50.87\00:26:53.21 I want to do, so I'm not going to go to 00:26:53.31\00:26:55.11 SALT." But SALT's actually for people that are planning 00:26:55.21\00:26:57.71 just taking, what, a semester out? Get 00:26:57.85\00:26:59.75 some great too-. - Yeah... yeah. And that's another 00:26:59.85\00:27:03.05 thing that I'm really so thankful that I 00:27:03.15\00:27:05.35 could receive college credit for, so I wasn't 00:27:05.42\00:27:07.16 necessarily taking time off of school. You know, 00:27:07.26\00:27:11.09 I was filling up my religion requirements, 00:27:11.19\00:27:13.26 my elective requirements, and at the same time, I 00:27:13.40\00:27:17.23 was being able to have this time to learn about 00:27:17.33\00:27:19.73 how to share my faith within my major-within 00:27:19.83\00:27:22.50 what I was already wanting to do, so it's a great match. 00:27:22.64\00:27:26.37 It's not a waste of time at all. - Amen. - I like how 00:27:26.47\00:27:30.25 you set that up. Go ahead, Dr. Parker. - Yeah. It's 00:27:30.35\00:27:32.08 something that we might call evangeliving rather 00:27:32.15\00:27:35.12 than evangelism, because it's something that you do 00:27:35.18\00:27:38.32 as part of your profession, no matter what you do. 00:27:38.39\00:27:41.19 - Wow. - That's powerful. - That's good. I like that. 00:27:41.32\00:27:44.19 - Let's go to Jeremy and hear your story. 00:27:44.29\00:27:46.39 Now, you- you're married, you got four kids... This is 00:27:46.49\00:27:49.10 a different story than someone who's just in 00:27:49.20\00:27:50.87 college, so tell us what led you-what drew you 00:27:50.97\00:27:54.44 to SALT? - Well, we had already been doing some 00:27:54.54\00:27:57.97 evangelism in our local church, and it just- 00:27:58.07\00:28:02.34 it wasn't as successful as we would've hoped it 00:28:02.48\00:28:05.01 would be, and so we were at an Iowa camp meeting, 00:28:05.08\00:28:09.05 and Pastor Na'a came and he was the guest 00:28:09.15\00:28:11.42 speaker. He was having some classes on evangelism, so my 00:28:11.49\00:28:14.92 wife and I attended. While we were going 00:28:14.99\00:28:18.39 through the classes, Pastor Na'a said something that 00:28:18.49\00:28:22.10 resonated with us. He said, "In warfare, the 00:28:22.20\00:28:26.43 battle is always won on the ground." And so, 00:28:26.53\00:28:29.70 my wife and I kind of looked at each other, 00:28:29.84\00:28:31.64 and we were talking without talking, and we knew that we 00:28:31.74\00:28:35.31 had been going about evangelism the wrong 00:28:35.38\00:28:37.55 way. - Wow. - So, the Lord just put a conviction on my 00:28:37.65\00:28:40.88 heart to go and to learn how to do this. So a long 00:28:40.98\00:28:45.59 story short, God just made the way possible. 00:28:45.65\00:28:48.29 We were able to leave everything behind. My 00:28:48.39\00:28:52.46 wife held the fort for me, and we went down 00:28:52.56\00:28:54.36 to SALT and really learned a lot more than we realized 00:28:54.46\00:28:58.90 we were signing up for in the beginning. - And 00:28:59.03\00:29:02.20 what would that be? You said you learned a lot more- 00:29:02.30\00:29:04.07 - Well, so, I went for evangelism. That's 00:29:04.21\00:29:05.84 why I went. Knocking on doors was the last 00:29:05.94\00:29:09.31 thing that I was thinking of. [laughter] I really 00:29:09.44\00:29:14.42 didn't realize at that moment that it was 00:29:14.48\00:29:16.62 going to be such an intensive part of the 00:29:16.72\00:29:18.69 curriculum. You meet a lot of folks, and you 00:29:18.79\00:29:23.93 get over that nervousness of, "I can't do this." You can! 00:29:24.03\00:29:27.90 It's so easy; SALT makes it easy. They train you how 00:29:28.00\00:29:31.60 to do this, and so you're able to go out and make 00:29:31.67\00:29:34.30 relationships with folks. You know, I had a situation 00:29:34.40\00:29:37.71 where we met a young lady who accepted us 00:29:37.81\00:29:43.45 into her home, but she was battling with drugs. 00:29:43.55\00:29:46.85 She had lost her children, and she was losing the fight. 00:29:46.95\00:29:52.65 So, she was desperately searching for the Lord, 00:29:52.75\00:29:57.19 but she didn't know how to reach Him. So she 00:29:57.33\00:29:59.96 invited us into her home, and we were able to meet 00:30:00.06\00:30:02.86 with her. And after several lessons of 00:30:02.96\00:30:05.50 sitting down together, there was this moment 00:30:05.60\00:30:08.57 where just the look in her eyes changed, and 00:30:08.67\00:30:12.34 she realized..."Jesus loves me." - Yeah. 00:30:12.47\00:30:16.61 - "As far as I've fallen and I've lost everything, 00:30:16.68\00:30:20.68 and..." And she was just able to realize that even 00:30:20.78\00:30:24.12 in that state, God loved her. I was hooked. That 00:30:24.22\00:30:27.86 was it, and so I realized right then and there that 00:30:27.96\00:30:32.89 the Lord was kind of calling me more to just evangelism 00:30:32.96\00:30:37.53 itself, not that there's anything wrong with it. 00:30:37.63\00:30:39.77 You gotta have a harvest event, but there's so much 00:30:39.83\00:30:43.07 that goes into that that we don't see. - Can I 00:30:43.17\00:30:46.01 stop you for one second? You said, "I was hooked." 00:30:46.07\00:30:47.94 Was that the first time you had ever experienced 00:30:48.01\00:30:51.28 the Holy Spirit working on someone else's heart 00:30:51.35\00:30:54.88 like that? - Yes-the first time I had seen it 00:30:54.95\00:30:56.28 in anyone's life outside of my family's. You know, 00:30:56.32\00:30:59.85 my family and I, we have plenty of testimonies to 00:30:59.95\00:31:02.46 share on how God has delivered us-transformed 00:31:02.52\00:31:05.33 us-but that was the first time I had ever seen the 00:31:05.39\00:31:08.56 Holy Spirit at work through me to touch someone else. 00:31:08.66\00:31:12.93 - What did that feel like? - It's... Words can't explain. 00:31:13.00\00:31:18.21 - Yeah, I think that's powerful, and you realize 00:31:21.34\00:31:23.35 that God can use us as weak human beings to 00:31:23.45\00:31:26.31 touch someone's life. And the thing is, it's 00:31:26.45\00:31:29.15 not just temporal; we're talking eternity here. 00:31:29.25\00:31:31.55 I mean, that's... Yeah. That's powerful. So, I 00:31:31.69\00:31:35.56 can see your face, too- yours also radiates... 00:31:35.66\00:31:37.43 Yeah, emotion is deep there. That...yeah. 00:31:37.53\00:31:42.00 - It's an emotional experience! - Yeah. 00:31:42.06\00:31:44.33 - But you would recommend SALT to someone else? - Well, 00:31:44.40\00:31:46.63 it's funny you say that. I'm actually sending my 00:31:46.74\00:31:48.70 daughter next semester. [laughter] - I think that 00:31:48.80\00:31:51.61 hits close to home! - So, yeah; I would 00:31:51.67\00:31:54.44 recommend it to anyone. And we witness so many 00:31:54.54\00:31:57.78 young men and women, just living the experience 00:31:57.88\00:32:03.69 and realizing why they believe the way they 00:32:03.79\00:32:07.99 believe and being able to put their fingerprint 00:32:08.09\00:32:11.09 on that. There was a lot of testimonies just 00:32:11.19\00:32:14.03 in the classroom, which was wonderful to be a 00:32:14.16\00:32:17.10 part of. - 'Cause that encourages everybody 00:32:17.20\00:32:19.13 when things are being shared within the classroom, too! 00:32:19.20\00:32:21.74 - Oh, yeah. It definitely inspires people. - Yeah. 00:32:21.87\00:32:23.51 - So what are you doing in moving forward now? 00:32:24.64\00:32:26.54 - Well, we went home. SALT teaches you how 00:32:26.64\00:32:30.61 to kind of bring evangelism to the church, and it gives 00:32:30.71\00:32:36.25 you the tools to do that. So, we went home and 00:32:36.35\00:32:38.15 presented to the church our plan for evangelism. 00:32:38.22\00:32:40.86 It Is Written- one of the great things about the 00:32:40.96\00:32:43.39 partnership is they offer something called a Mega 00:32:43.46\00:32:45.53 Mailer. And so, our church piggybacked with It Is 00:32:45.63\00:32:50.83 Written and partnered with them, and we sent 00:32:50.93\00:32:52.63 a Mega Mailer. Now, we live in a very small community, 00:32:52.73\00:32:55.07 so it was roughly 1,800 mailers went out, and 00:32:55.17\00:32:58.27 we had 19 folks. - Oh. That's a huge percentage. 00:32:58.37\00:33:01.78 - ...that they would like us to come and give them 00:33:01.88\00:33:04.41 Bible studies. And so, my church is doing that 00:33:04.51\00:33:06.92 right now. And in the process of that, we 00:33:07.02\00:33:10.65 actually got a call from the Indianapolis Conference. It 00:33:10.79\00:33:15.32 Is Written is doing a 2020 campaign there, 00:33:15.46\00:33:17.66 and we have an opportunity to come up there and do Bible 00:33:17.76\00:33:20.50 work. - Amen! - The Lord has just continued to bless 00:33:20.60\00:33:23.67 us. - Amen... - It's encouraging, isn't it? 00:33:23.77\00:33:26.63 - Yes. - I mean, you think about this: over breakfast 00:33:26.74\00:33:28.97 a number of years ago, the idea of SALT started to formulate. 00:33:29.07\00:33:33.14 - And all the people's lives who are being changed as a result! 00:33:33.88\00:33:35.94 - What does that do to you?- I mean, to hear these testimonies. 00:33:36.04\00:33:38.81 - It makes me emotional, too, because I think it's 00:33:38.95\00:33:42.38 one thing to catch fish... It's another thing to have 00:33:42.45\00:33:44.55 a school to train fishermen. And so, to see each one of 00:33:44.69\00:33:48.39 their lives as they unfold... I mean, I don't know what 00:33:48.49\00:33:51.43 eternity's going to be like, but this is amazing. - Amen. 00:33:51.53\00:33:54.63 - Well, we have some more guests we want 00:33:54.73\00:33:56.06 to bring on right now. We're going to trade out 00:33:56.10\00:33:58.23 Jeremy and Elizabeth during the song, but 00:33:58.30\00:34:02.77 right now we're going to go to a song. This is a 00:34:02.84\00:34:04.67 perfect song to go with what we're talking about- 00:34:04.77\00:34:06.98 "I Will Serve Thee." This is by our good 00:34:07.11\00:34:10.15 friends, Reggie and Ladye Love Smith. 00:34:10.25\00:34:12.85 I will serve Thee because I love Thee 00:34:27.40\00:34:36.71 You have given life to me 00:34:39.14\00:34:47.85 I was nothing before you found me 00:34:50.05\00:34:59.49 You have given life to me 00:35:02.30\00:35:11.41 Heartaches broken pieces 00:35:14.94\00:35:23.55 Ruined lives are why 00:35:25.65\00:35:30.69 You died on Calvary 00:35:30.79\00:35:37.83 Your touch is what I longed for 00:35:38.27\00:35:47.68 You have given life to me 00:35:49.51\00:35:59.25 I will serve Thee because I love Thee 00:36:01.19\00:36:11.10 You have given life to me 00:36:13.50\00:36:22.68 I was nothing before you found me 00:36:26.75\00:36:36.06 You have given life to me 00:36:38.56\00:36:48.17 Heartaches broken pieces 00:36:54.58\00:37:04.19 Ruined lives are why 00:37:06.49\00:37:11.53 You died on Calvary 00:37:11.89\00:37:19.33 Your touch was what I longed for 00:37:19.93\00:37:29.54 You have given life to me 00:37:31.48\00:37:41.02 You have given life 00:37:44.89\00:37:52.27 To me 00:37:55.14\00:38:05.08 - Wow, amen. Thank you, Reggie and Ladye Love. 00:38:18.36\00:38:20.20 That is a powerful song- "I Will Serve Thee." How 00:38:20.33\00:38:23.57 fitting, just as you mentioned before we went to the song. 00:38:23.67\00:38:25.57 God wants all of us to be vessels that He can use. 00:38:25.67\00:38:28.60 And no matter what place you are in life, however old 00:38:28.70\00:38:32.61 or however young you are, wherever you live in this 00:38:32.71\00:38:35.74 world, we can all spread God's gospel around the 00:38:35.84\00:38:38.31 world. Well, you mentioned we're switching out with 00:38:38.41\00:38:40.98 some of our guests that we have here; but in case 00:38:41.08\00:38:42.85 you're just joining us, we're talking about SALT- 00:38:42.95\00:38:44.59 and that's not salt you put on your food, but 00:38:44.69\00:38:47.39 it's about SALT... I'll let you explain what 00:38:47.49\00:38:49.69 it is, but we have Pastor Na'a with us. 00:38:49.79\00:38:51.46 You're the director of SALT. - Yes. - And then 00:38:51.56\00:38:54.23 we have Dr. Parker. You're professor at 00:38:54.36\00:38:56.13 Southern Adventist University of Religion; you're professor 00:38:56.26\00:38:59.57 there. So tell us, again, what SALT is in case 00:38:59.70\00:39:01.74 someone is just joining us-what SALT stands 00:39:01.84\00:39:03.44 for. - SALT stands for Soul Winning and Leadership 00:39:03.54\00:39:06.57 Training. It is the It Is Written school of 00:39:06.68\00:39:09.24 evangelism in partnership with the school of religion 00:39:09.34\00:39:12.38 of Southern Adventist University. It's a wonderful 00:39:12.48\00:39:15.38 program that prepares people, teaches and 00:39:15.48\00:39:18.05 equips people to be effective soul winners. 00:39:18.19\00:39:20.36 Not only that, but it teaches people to know 00:39:20.42\00:39:22.42 their faith, experience it, share it, live it, 00:39:22.52\00:39:25.19 and defend their faith. - Amen. - Very practical, 00:39:25.29\00:39:29.66 isn't it? - Yes. - It is. So you take what 00:39:29.76\00:39:32.33 you learn in the classroom and you go and you put it 00:39:32.43\00:39:34.24 into practice in the field with real people. - That's 00:39:34.30\00:39:37.71 incredible. We want to put up your contact 00:39:37.81\00:39:40.31 information. We've been talking about this wonderful 00:39:40.41\00:39:42.84 soul-winning evangelism training center-as you 00:39:42.98\00:39:46.85 said, evangeliving- which is powerful, 00:39:46.95\00:39:50.39 because God calls us to a lifestyle of evangelism. 00:39:50.49\00:39:53.62 So if you want to contact SALT, what's your website 00:39:53.69\00:39:56.86 again? - Our website is simple; it's just soul.training. You 00:39:56.96\00:40:00.06 don't have to put a ".com" or ".org" at the end of it, 00:40:00.16\00:40:02.60 or "www"; it's just simple. So, it's just salt.training, 00:40:02.66\00:40:06.84 and that'll take you to the website. And there, 00:40:06.94\00:40:09.70 you will have all of the information you need to 00:40:09.80\00:40:11.47 take the SALT program, partner with the SALT 00:40:11.57\00:40:14.34 program, and also be equipped by the SALT 00:40:14.38\00:40:16.54 program. - Amen. - And the phone number. - The 00:40:16.64\00:40:18.51 phone number is (423) 236-2036, 00:40:18.58\00:40:22.18 and that'll come directly to our SALT office. - Let's 00:40:22.28\00:40:25.19 repeat that number one more time. - (423) 236-2036. 00:40:25.25\00:40:30.69 - Wonderful; okay. Well, we switched out some- 00:40:30.79\00:40:33.66 we did some musical chairs here during the song, so 00:40:33.76\00:40:36.36 instead of Elizabeth and Jeremy, we have two 00:40:36.46\00:40:38.60 new guests who are going to tell us about their experience 00:40:38.70\00:40:41.74 in the SALT program. We have Leah Crosby. 00:40:41.84\00:40:45.47 And Leah, we're so glad to have you here. - Thank 00:40:45.57\00:40:48.31 you! I'm glad to be here. - And sitting next to you 00:40:48.44\00:40:51.55 is Milika. - Hi. - Milika... Saafi? - Yes. - And we're 00:40:51.65\00:40:56.62 so glad to have you here, as well, Milika. - Thank you 00:40:56.69\00:40:58.79 for having me here. - And so, let's hear a little bit 00:40:58.85\00:41:01.19 about both of your stories. We'll start with you, Leah. 00:41:01.32\00:41:04.03 Tell us what led you and what drew you to the SALT 00:41:04.13\00:41:06.36 program-and how long ago did you go? - So, I 00:41:06.46\00:41:09.30 went through the SALT program in 2013. I had 00:41:09.40\00:41:13.50 been doing Bible work over the- not Bible 00:41:13.64\00:41:15.80 work- canvassing over the summer! And we would 00:41:15.87\00:41:22.54 offer for those who we would sell books to 00:41:22.64\00:41:26.85 sign up for Bible studies. And I thought, "Well, 00:41:26.95\00:41:28.98 wouldn't it be neat if I could go back and 00:41:29.08\00:41:30.62 actually give Bible studies to some of these types of 00:41:30.72\00:41:32.89 people?" I had heard about SALT, I think, it 00:41:32.99\00:41:36.56 was through the website or something, 'cause it 00:41:36.62\00:41:39.16 had just started a couple years prior. And then, in 00:41:39.23\00:41:44.80 my devotions, I was reading about how students should 00:41:44.87\00:41:47.10 learn more about the Bible. And I was like, 00:41:47.20\00:41:50.14 "Where could I go to learn about the Bible, 00:41:50.24\00:41:52.47 like, as your textbook?" And my mom was like, 00:41:52.54\00:41:54.98 "What about SALT?" So I applied, I think, just 00:41:55.04\00:41:59.31 a month or so before it started. - Mm, wow. And 00:41:59.41\00:42:02.98 then they accepted you, and then you attended. 00:42:03.08\00:42:04.49 So you took the 16-week program that we were 00:42:04.59\00:42:06.39 talking about; is that right? - Correct. - Wonderful. 00:42:06.49\00:42:08.39 - And what was the program like for you? What was your 00:42:08.49\00:42:10.83 experience? - For me, what I really liked about 00:42:10.93\00:42:14.16 it... I had been raised a Seventh-day Adventist 00:42:14.26\00:42:17.50 Christian, but sometimes I feel like it's almost 00:42:17.57\00:42:20.84 assumed that you know things...but you may not 00:42:20.90\00:42:24.51 REALLY know them. And so, I felt like I really 00:42:24.57\00:42:27.74 knew why I was an Adventist, why I was 00:42:27.84\00:42:30.21 a Christian, and it wasn't just, "Okay, 00:42:30.31\00:42:33.92 this is what we believe"; it was more of a connection 00:42:34.02\00:42:39.49 of the gospel and the truth. It wasn't just 00:42:39.59\00:42:42.02 theology; it was alive. I even considered getting 00:42:43.43\00:42:47.56 rebaptized because it really just touched me 00:42:47.66\00:42:49.60 in a way that those doctrines hadn't touched 00:42:49.70\00:42:52.47 me in the past. - Amen. So not only learning 00:42:52.57\00:42:55.20 what we believe as Seventh-day Adventist 00:42:55.30\00:42:56.77 Christians and learning the Sabbath, as we would 00:42:56.87\00:42:58.84 say, and the state of the dead, and the soon 00:42:58.91\00:43:00.61 return of Jesus...you learned about Jesus, as 00:43:00.68\00:43:03.35 well, and the combination of Jesus with the doctrine. 00:43:03.45\00:43:07.25 - Mhm. - So then, you went out in the field. 00:43:07.35\00:43:12.05 So, you did some canvassing during the summer, so that's 00:43:12.15\00:43:14.92 knocking on doors. Did you kind of get over 00:43:15.02\00:43:16.73 that fear of going and doing Bible studies now 00:43:16.83\00:43:18.99 as you're into the curriculum? - Yeah, 00:43:19.09\00:43:21.53 that wasn't a fear for me. - Good for you! - I learned 00:43:22.60\00:43:25.63 to work with other people when I found out who my 00:43:25.73\00:43:28.07 outreach partner was. I was like, "Will that 00:43:28.14\00:43:30.11 work!?" So, I learned more how to work with other 00:43:30.21\00:43:32.87 people. That was, probably, the biggest practical side 00:43:32.94\00:43:37.78 of things. - Oh, that's good! - So then now, 00:43:37.88\00:43:39.48 what are you doing now? 'Cause you've taken this, 00:43:39.55\00:43:40.88 you said this has been a few years ago, and so 00:43:40.92\00:43:43.25 did you continue on, or what is your career? 00:43:43.35\00:43:45.15 What are you doing? - So, yeah. SALT just totally 00:43:45.22\00:43:48.49 turned my life around. I wasn't sure exactly 00:43:48.56\00:43:53.13 what direction I was going. I had been doing 00:43:53.23\00:43:55.23 elementary ed; and then after going through the 00:43:55.33\00:43:59.43 SALT program, I just fell in love with teaching other 00:43:59.53\00:44:02.00 people the Bible and about Jesus. And towards the end 00:44:02.07\00:44:06.64 of the program, they had someone there 00:44:06.74\00:44:08.48 recruiting to work as a Bible worker during the 00:44:08.61\00:44:11.51 next summer. So I interviewed and I 00:44:11.61\00:44:16.22 got the job just immediately, and I felt so shocked and 00:44:16.32\00:44:21.52 honored that God would choose me. It's just been 00:44:21.62\00:44:24.93 one thing after the other; I never went very long 00:44:24.99\00:44:28.26 without an opportunity. So, that was just my 00:44:28.33\00:44:31.70 biggest takeaway that God can actually use me- 00:44:31.77\00:44:34.00 that He has a plan for my life! Like I may have 00:44:34.14\00:44:36.50 had it all planned out, like, "This is the way 00:44:36.57\00:44:38.57 I'm going," but God's plans are always better. 00:44:38.67\00:44:41.94 - Amen. That's powerful. So you've been doing 00:44:42.04\00:44:44.25 Bible work in different areas since then. - Correct. 00:44:44.35\00:44:46.98 - Amen! That's exciting. Well, let's hear a little 00:44:47.08\00:44:49.48 bit of Malika and your story. - Well, how I came 00:44:49.58\00:44:54.02 to SALT: Pastor Douglas Na'a came to one of our 00:44:54.12\00:44:58.79 camps-our church camps- and when I looked at it, 00:44:58.89\00:45:03.57 I was like, "Oh, okay, this seems good," but 00:45:03.63\00:45:05.60 even before Doug came, even before Pastor Na'a 00:45:05.73\00:45:10.61 came, I was kind of giving out literature, but I wasn't 00:45:10.67\00:45:15.74 able to approach people. So, I was actually just 00:45:15.84\00:45:17.61 putting it on their cars. So... - So in other 00:45:17.71\00:45:21.35 words, you didn't really want to talk to someone 00:45:21.48\00:45:22.82 and hand them the pieces, just like, "Oh, there's 00:45:22.88\00:45:24.65 nobody there, so let me just put it there." 00:45:24.75\00:45:26.55 - Yeah. - Okay. So this is like a little Bible study 00:45:26.65\00:45:29.32 card or something, or a piece of literature? - It 00:45:29.42\00:45:31.69 was like GLOW tracts. - GLOW tract! Okay. 00:45:31.76\00:45:33.70 - So, I was too scared to give it to them. But 00:45:34.73\00:45:38.17 when Doug came, he put up a booth at our church 00:45:38.30\00:45:41.67 camp. And when I looked at what they offered, 00:45:41.77\00:45:44.94 I was like, "Hm, this is pretty interesting." So 00:45:45.04\00:45:48.21 I signed up, thinking that they'll probably just send 00:45:48.31\00:45:50.68 me newsletters and just updates on the SALT 00:45:50.81\00:45:53.48 program. So, the next week, Doug called and 00:45:53.58\00:45:58.69 he asked whether I was interested in joining the 00:45:58.79\00:46:03.56 SALT program, and I said, "Yeah, but maybe next 00:46:03.66\00:46:06.53 year, not this fall," which was last year. 00:46:06.59\00:46:09.16 But after the phone call, it didn't settle well with 00:46:09.26\00:46:13.50 me; so I had to pray about it, and I was 00:46:13.60\00:46:16.64 strongly impressed to attend SALT last year. 00:46:16.77\00:46:23.68 - Wow. - So, they brought me to SALT, so I packed 00:46:23.78\00:46:26.28 my bags from California and drove all the way to 00:46:26.38\00:46:28.78 Tennessee. - Wow, drove all the way...yeah. - That's 00:46:28.88\00:46:31.82 a little drive! [laughter] ...All the way across the 00:46:31.95\00:46:34.22 country. - So what did it do for you? How did it 00:46:34.32\00:46:38.03 change your life? - Well, now, I'm able to share 00:46:38.09\00:46:41.60 my faith with others, and not just giving 00:46:41.70\00:46:45.40 GLOW tracts, putting GLOW tracts on their 00:46:45.50\00:46:47.20 cars; I'm able to share with others, like pass 00:46:47.30\00:46:50.97 GLOW tracts out with others. I'm more confident 00:46:51.07\00:46:54.18 now to share my faith- to tell others what Jesus 00:46:54.31\00:46:58.65 has done for me, so... And I'm able to use the 00:46:58.78\00:47:02.48 tools that were taught in SALT, and I'm able to 00:47:02.58\00:47:10.79 apply those tools to what I'm doing now. 00:47:10.93\00:47:13.46 - Wow. - So tell me, you were afraid to 00:47:13.53\00:47:16.00 talk to someone; you'd just leave a GLOW tract 00:47:16.13\00:47:17.80 on someone's hood of their car. So what was your first 00:47:17.93\00:47:21.54 experience like? The first time you knocked on a 00:47:21.64\00:47:24.47 door. Do you remember that-what that's like? 00:47:24.57\00:47:26.61 - Okay, it's funny you tell me that. The first 00:47:26.68\00:47:29.38 time I knocked on someone's door... Well, actually, our 00:47:29.51\00:47:34.12 first class, we approached- me and my canvassing partner 00:47:34.22\00:47:37.92 (who was Destiny)-we approached the store, 00:47:38.02\00:47:40.42 and she told me, "Look up; look up!" So I looked 00:47:40.52\00:47:44.33 up, and there was a nest of wasps. - Oh, dear. - But 00:47:44.39\00:47:48.43 I was impressed to just knock on their door. We 00:47:49.33\00:47:52.23 weren't going to leave that house. So, I knocked 00:47:52.33\00:47:55.47 on the door, and straight away, one of the wasps 00:47:55.57\00:47:57.64 came and stung me on my lip. - On your lip?! 00:47:57.77\00:48:01.48 - That was your first experience. - That was 00:48:01.61\00:48:03.45 my first experience that I'll never forget. And so, 00:48:03.55\00:48:07.48 what was funny...we decided to continue. 00:48:07.55\00:48:11.25 And what's funny about it is, every time I'd stay 00:48:12.12\00:48:16.96 quiet, it was sore-like, it was throbbing. But 00:48:17.06\00:48:23.50 every time we'd go door to door, it just- it was 00:48:23.60\00:48:28.40 just soothing though it was sore when I was quiet. 00:48:28.50\00:48:34.44 But every time I tell people, "Hey, you know, 00:48:34.58\00:48:37.51 you want Bible study?", it was just soothing, so... 00:48:37.65\00:48:41.48 - God performed a miracle and took the pain while 00:48:41.58\00:48:44.79 you were at the door talking with people. - Yes. 00:48:44.89\00:48:46.96 - That's amazing. - I find it interesting, actually, 00:48:47.06\00:48:48.92 that the wasp stung you on your lip. It could've 00:48:49.06\00:48:51.19 been your arm or anything else, but that's what we 00:48:51.29\00:48:53.09 use-our mouth-to talk. - To share Jesus. - That's 00:48:53.19\00:48:56.23 Satan trying to- but you said, "No, Satan! 00:48:56.33\00:48:58.43 Yes, I'm going forward anyway!" [laughter] 00:48:58.53\00:49:01.04 - Wow. So what are you doing now, then, with 00:49:02.00\00:49:04.17 the training that you received in your work 00:49:04.27\00:49:06.71 or what you're doing now currently? - Yep. So right 00:49:06.84\00:49:08.78 now, I'm doing Bible work in Page, Arizona, 00:49:08.84\00:49:12.71 ministering to the Navajos. - Wow. - Amen. - Fantastic. 00:49:12.81\00:49:18.19 You know, I think what's really incredible is that 00:49:19.09\00:49:20.46 you get people from many different...where they're 00:49:20.56\00:49:23.66 at in their life. Like you mentioned, from 17 to 00:49:23.76\00:49:26.83 77? I know you just used that as an interesting 00:49:26.93\00:49:28.60 age range there... But still, it's neat to see 00:49:28.70\00:49:30.90 what God is doing, and He can use anybody, 00:49:31.00\00:49:33.27 no matter what we're doing, so long as we're 00:49:33.37\00:49:35.20 a willing vessel to be used of God. - Amen. 00:49:35.30\00:49:37.91 Amen. - Does... Oh, go ahead. - You don't always 00:49:38.04\00:49:40.41 see the results of it right away, either. I 00:49:40.54\00:49:42.98 just think back to an experience where a 00:49:43.08\00:49:46.35 SALT student- two SALT students went up, knocked 00:49:46.51\00:49:49.35 on a door, and the lady invited them in and said, 00:49:49.45\00:49:52.12 "I just want to know something. Are you 00:49:52.85\00:49:54.32 Seventh-day Adventists?" And they were like, "What 00:49:54.42\00:49:57.79 do we say here, because if they're prejudiced or 00:49:57.89\00:49:59.79 not...?" So finally, they kind of meekly 00:49:59.89\00:50:01.43 nod. "Well, we are Seventh-day Adventist 00:50:01.50\00:50:03.00 Christians." And she said, "Well, good, 'cause I 00:50:03.10\00:50:05.30 wouldn't study the Bible with anyone else." Two 00:50:05.37\00:50:07.94 years beforehand, SALT students had studied 00:50:08.07\00:50:11.27 the Bible with her, lost contact... She had moved 00:50:11.34\00:50:14.81 away; no one knew where she was. And now, they 00:50:15.78\00:50:18.51 knocked on her door again, and she invited them in 00:50:18.61\00:50:20.82 and she got so excited, started studying the Bible 00:50:20.92\00:50:23.72 with him, her neighbor started studying the 00:50:23.79\00:50:25.92 Bible... Again, we had meetings, and both of 00:50:26.05\00:50:28.12 them were baptized at the end of the meetings... 00:50:28.22\00:50:30.06 ...two years after the initial contact. - Yeah. 00:50:30.16\00:50:32.76 - So at the end of the 16 weeks, is there always 00:50:32.86\00:50:34.90 an evangelistic series like you're mentioning? 00:50:35.00\00:50:37.17 - Yes. - There is! Okay, and it's being... I mean, 00:50:37.27\00:50:40.44 who are the evangelists? Are they some of the 00:50:40.54\00:50:41.87 students, or one of the professors? - Typically, 00:50:41.90\00:50:44.54 it'll be like Pastor Na'a will preach, or we'll 00:50:44.61\00:50:47.74 bring in an evangelist. Students will get involved 00:50:47.84\00:50:50.81 in presenting other things, but the meetings will be 00:50:50.91\00:50:53.08 held by professional evangelists. - Okay. 00:50:53.18\00:50:55.05 And then the follow-up, is that done by some of 00:50:55.15\00:50:56.75 the SALT students? - The wonderful thing is that 00:50:56.85\00:50:58.89 part of the SALT program is partnering with a local 00:50:58.99\00:51:02.02 church, so that the students get to see the whole experience- 00:51:02.09\00:51:05.99 the whole process of evangelism. So like right 00:51:06.09\00:51:09.26 now, we are gearing up our next church for our 00:51:09.33\00:51:11.53 upcoming evangelistic meetings this November. 00:51:11.73\00:51:14.17 And so, part of the training-or that church-is transitioning 00:51:14.30\00:51:18.07 contacts over to the local members. So, there's a 00:51:18.17\00:51:22.68 sense of ownership by the local church members 00:51:22.81\00:51:24.88 off this program. And so once the SALT program 00:51:25.01\00:51:28.85 leaves, it transitions out to the next church. 00:51:28.98\00:51:31.59 The local members are actually following up 00:51:31.69\00:51:34.16 with many of these wonderful people that have just been 00:51:34.26\00:51:37.03 baptized. - Amen! We want to put up the 00:51:37.13\00:51:39.03 contact information one more time before we go 00:51:39.09\00:51:42.46 to the news break here, and then we'll come back 00:51:42.56\00:51:44.17 for some closing thoughts. It's been an exciting program. 00:51:44.27\00:51:46.60 - It has. - It inspires me to want to get 00:51:46.70\00:51:49.94 involved in evangelism! If you want to contact 00:51:50.04\00:51:52.87 the SALT ministry, just go to their website: 00:51:53.01\00:51:54.81 That's all you need to put in. Type in: 00:51:57.65\00:51:59.45 And you'll see the three-pronged approach 00:52:01.88\00:52:03.42 or the three platforms that they have that you 00:52:03.55\00:52:06.59 can attend; the four-month evangelism training... 00:52:06.69\00:52:09.86 You can invite the SALT brethren to your church, 00:52:09.96\00:52:13.43 and they can teach you how to do evangelism 00:52:13.53\00:52:16.40 in your local area! Or, you can just look at 00:52:16.50\00:52:18.73 SALT 365 and you can see resources and learn 00:52:18.87\00:52:22.87 how to do evangelism at home and abroad, so we're 00:52:22.97\00:52:25.77 going to go to a news break- we'll be right back. 00:52:25.91\00:52:28.38
