I want to spend my life 00:00:01.90\00:00:07.84 Mending broken people 00:00:07.87\00:00:12.91 I want to spend my life 00:00:12.94\00:00:19.05 Removing pain 00:00:19.08\00:00:24.09 Lord, let my words 00:00:24.12\00:00:30.33 Heal a heart that hurts 00:00:30.36\00:00:34.83 I want to spend my life 00:00:34.86\00:00:40.67 Mending broken people 00:00:40.74\00:00:46.07 I want to spend my life 00:00:46.11\00:00:51.65 Mending broken people 00:00:51.68\00:00:55.75 Hello, friends, welcome to 3ABN Today. 00:01:09.93\00:01:12.10 My name is John Lomacang, 00:01:12.13\00:01:13.47 thank you so much for taking the time 00:01:13.54\00:01:14.87 to tune in for very special program. 00:01:14.90\00:01:17.31 And today we're gonna be addressing 00:01:17.34\00:01:18.94 a very challenging part of Scripture. 00:01:18.97\00:01:24.18 The rich man and Lazarus, 00:01:24.25\00:01:26.61 it is a parable 00:01:26.65\00:01:28.18 that have confused so many clergy 00:01:28.22\00:01:31.42 and membership alike. 00:01:31.45\00:01:34.96 I've heard so many different interpretations. 00:01:34.99\00:01:37.23 And we're gonna do our part today 00:01:37.26\00:01:39.66 in some cases not to muddy the water, 00:01:39.69\00:01:42.06 but to clear it up. 00:01:42.10\00:01:43.47 And to make it very clear about what the Bible teaches 00:01:43.50\00:01:46.40 as to the nature of man, what happens when he dies, 00:01:46.43\00:01:50.04 his mortal condition and a number of other things. 00:01:50.11\00:01:52.87 So stay tuned and get your Bibles 00:01:52.91\00:01:54.41 and invite your friends to join us. 00:01:54.44\00:01:56.28 And if you're a pastor, we would strongly suggest 00:01:56.31\00:01:58.81 that you start writing notes, 00:01:58.85\00:02:00.22 we're gonna go to a lot of scriptures today, 00:02:00.25\00:02:01.98 because one of the things 00:02:02.02\00:02:03.39 that we are very importantly concerned about 00:02:03.42\00:02:05.92 is that the Word of God be communicated clearly 00:02:05.95\00:02:09.72 that we don't teach scriptures in the Bible 00:02:09.76\00:02:11.73 that conflict with the weight of evidence. 00:02:11.76\00:02:15.56 The Bible says a number of things 00:02:15.60\00:02:16.97 about what happens when you die. 00:02:17.00\00:02:18.33 But when you give pictures that conflict, 00:02:18.37\00:02:20.44 then you create confusion 00:02:20.47\00:02:21.80 and God is not the author of confusion. 00:02:21.84\00:02:24.64 Today we have... 00:02:24.67\00:02:26.01 I have with me actually, 00:02:26.04\00:02:27.38 my good friend, Pastor Ryan Day. 00:02:27.41\00:02:28.74 Good to have you, Ryan. Yes, sir. 00:02:28.78\00:02:30.25 And I've said this before, 00:02:30.28\00:02:32.08 Ryan is not the new kid on the block any longer. 00:02:32.11\00:02:33.95 He's been here for... 00:02:34.02\00:02:35.35 How long have you been here now? 00:02:35.38\00:02:36.72 Well, this June will be one year, 00:02:36.75\00:02:38.95 so about ten months. 00:02:38.99\00:02:40.69 Glad to have you here. Amen. 00:02:40.76\00:02:42.09 And, but I found you to be a man of the word. 00:02:42.12\00:02:44.16 Amen. 00:02:44.23\00:02:45.56 An excited evangelist 00:02:45.59\00:02:46.93 and Ryan is a part of not only 3ABN's family, 00:02:46.96\00:02:49.86 he's a great musician, singer, 00:02:49.90\00:02:51.73 one who's dedicated his life to the Lord 00:02:51.77\00:02:53.74 and his wife is the principal of our school. 00:02:53.77\00:02:55.50 That's right. 00:02:55.54\00:02:56.91 We appreciate Stephanie, very, very much. 00:02:56.94\00:02:58.27 Yes. Amen. 00:02:58.31\00:02:59.64 And, but before we go any further, Ryan, 00:02:59.67\00:03:01.01 I think because you opened in the Bible, 00:03:01.04\00:03:02.38 we should have word of prayer. 00:03:02.41\00:03:03.75 So I'd like you to have that for us. 00:03:03.78\00:03:05.11 Yeah, sure thing. 00:03:05.15\00:03:06.48 Father in heaven, 00:03:06.51\00:03:07.85 Lord, we take this time very serious. 00:03:07.88\00:03:10.09 We recognize that this is not just another time 00:03:10.12\00:03:12.22 to just talk about Your word, even though it's so fun to do. 00:03:12.25\00:03:18.56 Lord, we need Your Spirit to lead and guide us 00:03:18.59\00:03:20.73 because we recognize that while we may think 00:03:20.80\00:03:24.17 we know everything on this subject, 00:03:24.20\00:03:25.53 there's still so much more light, 00:03:25.57\00:03:27.64 so many more connections 00:03:27.67\00:03:29.00 that You want us to make and, Lord, 00:03:29.04\00:03:30.61 we just thank You so much for truth, 00:03:30.64\00:03:33.01 and for the opportunity 00:03:33.04\00:03:34.38 to be able to preach and to teach 00:03:34.41\00:03:36.18 and to communicate this powerful message 00:03:36.21\00:03:39.01 to a lost and dying world. 00:03:39.05\00:03:41.45 So I pray, Lord, that You will give us 00:03:41.48\00:03:42.82 the spiritual eyesight, the spiritual hearing, 00:03:42.85\00:03:45.72 and of course, the spiritual mind of Christ 00:03:45.75\00:03:47.89 to be able to rightly divide Your word of truth 00:03:47.92\00:03:50.46 during this hour 00:03:50.53\00:03:51.86 and may there be someone who's watching 00:03:51.89\00:03:53.53 be blessed by this and be led to your truth, 00:03:53.60\00:03:56.80 and most importantly led to Jesus Christ. 00:03:56.87\00:03:59.37 We praise You, and we thank You as always, 00:03:59.40\00:04:01.74 and we ask this in Jesus' holy Name. 00:04:01.77\00:04:03.74 Amen. Amen. 00:04:03.81\00:04:05.14 Thank you, Ryan. Wonderful prayer. 00:04:05.17\00:04:06.88 And as I mentioned moment ago, 00:04:06.91\00:04:08.24 get your Bibles because we're gonna be talking 00:04:08.28\00:04:09.81 about the scriptures today and when we open the Bible, 00:04:09.84\00:04:13.82 we want the Word of God to speak. 00:04:13.85\00:04:16.12 Let's go right to the heart of the issue, Luke Chapter 16, 00:04:16.15\00:04:20.36 and you'll find in the gospels, 00:04:20.39\00:04:22.19 this particular story has become the foundation 00:04:22.22\00:04:28.43 for all kinds of... 00:04:28.46\00:04:30.17 Ryan, I could say misguided conclusions 00:04:30.20\00:04:33.84 about what Jesus actually said about death, 00:04:33.87\00:04:36.60 what the Bible teaches about death. 00:04:36.64\00:04:39.57 And so here's the premise, 00:04:39.61\00:04:42.44 either the rest of the Bible has to endorse this, 00:04:42.48\00:04:47.42 or this has to be the only thing we listened to 00:04:47.45\00:04:51.09 and ignore the rest of the Bible. 00:04:51.12\00:04:52.45 Right. 00:04:52.49\00:04:53.86 Because when you go into court, 00:04:53.89\00:04:55.22 the judge, or the jury, or the defense and prosecution, 00:04:55.26\00:04:58.13 they make decisions based on the preponderance 00:04:58.16\00:05:00.10 of the evidence, 00:05:00.13\00:05:01.60 and so you speak to that for a moment. 00:05:01.63\00:05:04.50 Yeah, absolutely. 00:05:04.53\00:05:05.87 So, you know, first of all, 00:05:05.90\00:05:08.00 someone gave me an illustration years ago, 00:05:08.04\00:05:11.14 and I've never forgotten it. 00:05:11.17\00:05:12.51 And that's the fact that, you know, 00:05:12.54\00:05:13.98 there are multiple dozens of Bible texts 00:05:14.01\00:05:17.35 that communicate the topic of the state of the dead, 00:05:17.38\00:05:20.12 what happens to us when we die, 00:05:20.15\00:05:21.48 the afterlife, things like that, 00:05:21.52\00:05:23.39 just to give an example. 00:05:23.42\00:05:24.75 But a lot of times, 00:05:24.79\00:05:27.49 there will be an enormous amount 00:05:27.56\00:05:30.53 of proof and harmony on a particular subject. 00:05:30.56\00:05:34.83 And then every once a while, 00:05:34.86\00:05:36.20 you might run into one or two or three texts 00:05:36.23\00:05:38.03 that seems to be, 00:05:38.07\00:05:39.57 may be pointing in a different direction. 00:05:39.60\00:05:41.60 And we know that God does not lie, 00:05:41.64\00:05:43.04 God is not the author of confusion. 00:05:43.07\00:05:44.81 So it may seem as if it is on the surface, 00:05:44.84\00:05:47.41 but we know that that text, 00:05:47.48\00:05:49.88 it does fall in harmony with the rest of Scripture. 00:05:49.91\00:05:52.38 I remembered the illustration that someone showed with me, 00:05:52.41\00:05:54.45 or showed to me, or gave to me years ago. 00:05:54.48\00:05:56.92 They used a fence post, 00:05:56.99\00:05:58.75 they said, if you're putting up fence post 00:05:58.79\00:06:00.29 and say you have ten fence post, 00:06:00.36\00:06:01.79 and you're putting them in a straight line, 00:06:01.82\00:06:03.73 but then you know, you get down the line, 00:06:03.76\00:06:05.49 you put your 10th post in the ground, 00:06:05.53\00:06:07.10 and then you look and you see 00:06:07.13\00:06:08.46 that there are one or two that are, you know, offline, 00:06:08.50\00:06:12.10 do you move the two to meet the other eight 00:06:12.13\00:06:15.70 or do you move the eight to meet the two? 00:06:15.74\00:06:17.81 Obviously, it just makes sense 00:06:17.84\00:06:19.24 that the two are out of line with the eight. 00:06:19.27\00:06:21.48 But that is just an illustration 00:06:21.51\00:06:22.91 to show the simplicity of Scripture 00:06:22.94\00:06:25.01 that we don't have to take something 00:06:25.05\00:06:27.22 out of context, or misunderstand something, 00:06:27.25\00:06:29.08 or formulate our own doctrine, or a new theology on something. 00:06:29.12\00:06:32.75 God's Word is harmonious. 00:06:32.79\00:06:34.39 And if we simply just allow the harmony of Bible 00:06:34.42\00:06:37.66 to speak to us 00:06:37.69\00:06:39.03 and rightly divide the word of truth, 00:06:39.06\00:06:40.40 as 2 Timothy 2:15 tells us, then we will be safe. 00:06:40.43\00:06:43.97 So we don't... 00:06:44.00\00:06:45.33 We're not gonna take the one post 00:06:45.37\00:06:47.34 that's out of line and put all the other 00:06:47.37\00:06:49.30 in harmony with it 00:06:49.34\00:06:50.91 because we're gonna take the one post 00:06:50.94\00:06:53.14 that's out of line 00:06:53.17\00:06:54.51 and put it in harmony with the eight. 00:06:54.54\00:06:55.88 Right. 00:06:55.91\00:06:57.25 Because the preponderance of evidence is amazing. 00:06:57.28\00:06:58.61 Let's begin by going right to Luke Chapter 16, 00:06:58.65\00:07:00.12 and we're gonna walk through the story together. 00:07:00.15\00:07:02.05 It's an amazing story 00:07:02.08\00:07:03.42 or as Ryan would say an incredible story. 00:07:03.49\00:07:04.89 An incredible story. 00:07:04.92\00:07:06.25 You know, I just, I've heard that phrase 00:07:06.29\00:07:08.09 and I said, that's definitely, 00:07:08.12\00:07:09.46 if I ever want to figure out 00:07:09.49\00:07:11.16 whether or not Ryan is saying it 00:07:11.19\00:07:12.53 lift up the word incredible. 00:07:12.56\00:07:13.90 But let's look at Luke Chapter 16, 00:07:13.93\00:07:15.73 and we'll break this down together, 00:07:15.76\00:07:17.57 starts in verse 19 and we'll go back and forth 00:07:17.60\00:07:21.47 and, "There was a certain rich man 00:07:21.50\00:07:24.51 who was clothed in purple and fine linen 00:07:24.54\00:07:28.14 and fared sumptuously every day. 00:07:28.18\00:07:30.85 But there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, full of sores, 00:07:30.88\00:07:34.02 who was laid at his gate, 00:07:34.05\00:07:36.99 desiring to be fed with the crumbs 00:07:37.02\00:07:39.25 which fell from the rich man's table. 00:07:39.29\00:07:41.02 Moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. 00:07:41.06\00:07:44.63 So it was that the beggar died, 00:07:44.66\00:07:46.13 and was carried by the angels to Abraham's bosom. 00:07:46.16\00:07:49.23 The rich man also died and was buried. 00:07:49.26\00:07:52.20 And being in torments in Hades, 00:07:52.23\00:07:55.37 he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham afar off 00:07:55.40\00:07:58.87 and Lazarus in his bosom." 00:07:58.91\00:08:00.98 I mean, already, 00:08:01.01\00:08:02.34 the symbolism starts to jump out. 00:08:02.38\00:08:03.75 Oh, absolutely. Okay, begin... 00:08:03.78\00:08:05.11 Take the next verse. 00:08:05.15\00:08:06.48 Sure, 24, it says, "Then he cried and said, 00:08:06.51\00:08:08.45 'Father Abraham, have mercy on me, 00:08:08.48\00:08:10.89 and send Lazarus 00:08:10.92\00:08:12.25 that he may dip the tip of his finger in water 00:08:12.29\00:08:14.96 and cool my tongue, 00:08:14.99\00:08:16.52 for I am tormented in this flame.' 00:08:16.56\00:08:18.86 But Abraham said, 00:08:18.89\00:08:20.23 'Son, remember that in your lifetime 00:08:20.30\00:08:22.33 you received good things, 00:08:22.36\00:08:23.87 and likewise Lazarus evil things, 00:08:23.90\00:08:27.14 but now he is comforted and you are tormented. 00:08:27.17\00:08:30.64 And besides all this, 00:08:30.71\00:08:32.04 between us and you there is a great gulf fixed, 00:08:32.07\00:08:35.14 so that those who want to pass from here to you cannot, 00:08:35.18\00:08:38.88 nor can those from there pass to us.'" 00:08:38.91\00:08:42.88 And then he now breaks it into... 00:08:42.92\00:08:44.69 He gives the picture now of what happens to the both. 00:08:44.72\00:08:47.56 Here's the fate of the rich man, 00:08:47.59\00:08:49.19 here's the fate of the beggar. 00:08:49.22\00:08:50.63 Now, they go back to the symbolism. 00:08:50.66\00:08:53.09 Right. 00:08:53.13\00:08:54.46 Verse 27, "Then he said, 'I beg you therefore, father, 00:08:54.50\00:08:57.93 that you would send him to my father's house, 00:08:57.97\00:09:02.04 for I have five brothers, that he may testify to them, 00:09:02.07\00:09:06.27 lest they also come to this place of torment.' 00:09:06.31\00:09:09.58 Abraham said to him..." 00:09:09.61\00:09:10.95 Now this is Abraham speaking, 00:09:10.98\00:09:13.18 "They have Moses and the prophets, 00:09:13.21\00:09:15.12 let them hear them." 00:09:15.15\00:09:16.48 Now would you got to get in the story now, 00:09:16.52\00:09:17.95 this is also suggesting that Abraham is still alive. 00:09:17.99\00:09:20.16 Right. 00:09:20.19\00:09:21.52 Because Abraham died a long time ago, 00:09:21.56\00:09:23.19 not only is it suggesting 00:09:23.22\00:09:24.79 that the poor man is in Abraham's bosom, 00:09:24.83\00:09:27.93 but now Abraham is talking, 00:09:27.96\00:09:29.53 who had been dead by this point for thousands of years. 00:09:29.56\00:09:31.87 Right. He's talking in this story. 00:09:31.90\00:09:35.27 "They have Moses and the prophets, 00:09:35.30\00:09:38.37 let them hear them. 00:09:38.41\00:09:40.08 And he said, 'No, father Abraham, 00:09:40.11\00:09:44.35 but if one goes to them from the dead, 00:09:44.38\00:09:47.62 they will repent. 00:09:47.65\00:09:49.25 But he said to him, 00:09:49.28\00:09:50.62 'If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, 00:09:50.69\00:09:52.49 neither will they be persuaded 00:09:52.52\00:09:53.86 though one rise from the dead.'" 00:09:53.89\00:09:56.49 And the ultimate resurrection was the resurrection of... 00:09:56.52\00:09:58.93 Absolutely. Of Jesus. 00:09:58.96\00:10:00.30 Jesus, absolutely. 00:10:00.33\00:10:01.66 And they didn't believe. 00:10:01.70\00:10:03.03 So let's go and break it down. 00:10:03.06\00:10:04.40 Let's start with some of the symbolism. 00:10:04.43\00:10:05.77 Sure. 00:10:05.80\00:10:07.14 And when you've heard this kinda, you would knew. 00:10:07.17\00:10:08.50 Right. 00:10:08.54\00:10:09.87 You came out of a church 00:10:09.90\00:10:11.24 that believe differently on this topic. 00:10:11.27\00:10:12.61 Oh, absolutely. So what is your transition? 00:10:12.64\00:10:13.98 I would just like to address the fact that, 00:10:14.01\00:10:15.34 you know, in the church that I was raised in, 00:10:15.38\00:10:17.08 and not just the church that I was raised in, 00:10:17.15\00:10:19.08 I was primarily raised in the Pentecostal faith, 00:10:19.11\00:10:21.55 but in many, many, many other denominations today, 00:10:21.58\00:10:24.65 many people want to apply that this particular parable 00:10:24.69\00:10:29.26 is not, as we would call it, a parable, 00:10:29.29\00:10:31.99 a figurative story or symbolic story, 00:10:32.03\00:10:34.20 but rather a literal story. 00:10:34.23\00:10:35.76 And as you were reading, 00:10:35.80\00:10:37.17 just then as we were reading through, 00:10:37.20\00:10:38.53 we could see some of the symbolism 00:10:38.57\00:10:39.90 been communicating and pouring out. 00:10:39.93\00:10:41.27 I just want to highlight the fact 00:10:41.30\00:10:42.64 that from the opening line of this particular passage, 00:10:42.67\00:10:45.74 we know that this has to be some type of parable or story 00:10:45.77\00:10:49.24 that Christ is telling that is not entirely true 00:10:49.28\00:10:53.05 or in the sense that it did actually happen. 00:10:53.08\00:10:55.95 For instance, you noticed the first few words, 00:10:55.98\00:10:57.52 there was a certain rich man, 00:10:57.59\00:10:59.35 Jesus often began, if you go back, 00:10:59.39\00:11:01.26 just one chapter Luke 15:11, notice what He says here, 00:11:01.29\00:11:05.23 again, the parable of the lost son, 00:11:05.26\00:11:07.00 He started with a certain man. 00:11:07.03\00:11:09.16 And so we know that this language communicates 00:11:09.20\00:11:10.97 to us that we're dealing with a parable, 00:11:11.00\00:11:13.13 Christ is using a symbolic story 00:11:13.17\00:11:15.80 of some sort, a short story to teach a moral lesson 00:11:15.84\00:11:19.34 and so we know that's the case. 00:11:19.37\00:11:20.71 And in the sense, it's an allegory. 00:11:20.78\00:11:22.18 Absolutely. 00:11:22.21\00:11:23.55 You find allegories, Jeremiah talked about the allegory 00:11:23.58\00:11:24.95 where the trees are talking to each other. 00:11:24.98\00:11:26.48 Right. 00:11:26.51\00:11:27.85 And so this allegorical language 00:11:27.88\00:11:29.22 also can be parabolic language he's illustrating to... 00:11:29.25\00:11:31.82 And one of the keys is, who's he talking to 00:11:31.85\00:11:34.59 is a big key factor. 00:11:34.62\00:11:36.12 Oh, absolutely. 00:11:36.16\00:11:37.53 So let's start with, who's he talking to. 00:11:37.56\00:11:38.89 Sure. 00:11:38.93\00:11:40.26 And let's start with verse 19 and to give further foundation, 00:11:40.30\00:11:42.76 verse 19, go to the Book of Exodus Chapter 39 00:11:42.80\00:11:47.24 and we're gonna look at verse 22 to 24. 00:11:47.27\00:11:49.87 We're gonna see where this picture came from. 00:11:49.90\00:11:52.44 There was a certain rich man 00:11:52.47\00:11:53.98 who was clothed in purple and fine linen, 00:11:54.01\00:11:57.05 and fared sumptuously every day. 00:11:57.08\00:11:59.05 Sure. Read Exodus 39:22-24. 00:11:59.08\00:12:02.78 Sure. Exodus 39. 00:12:02.82\00:12:04.19 By the way, this is talking 00:12:04.22\00:12:05.55 about the garments of the priest. 00:12:05.59\00:12:06.92 Sure, yeah, absolutely. 00:12:06.96\00:12:08.29 Exodus 39:22, 00:12:08.32\00:12:10.46 "He made the robe of the ephod of woven work, all of blue. 00:12:10.53\00:12:15.83 And there was an opening in the middle of the robe, 00:12:15.86\00:12:18.30 like the opening in a coat of mail, 00:12:18.33\00:12:21.00 with a woven binding all around the opening, 00:12:21.04\00:12:24.31 so that it would not tear. 00:12:24.34\00:12:26.61 They made on the hem of the robe 00:12:26.68\00:12:28.68 pomegranates of blue," 00:12:28.71\00:12:30.18 here comes the next color, "purple and scarlet, 00:12:30.25\00:12:33.42 and fine woven linen." 00:12:33.45\00:12:35.15 Okay. Okay. 00:12:35.18\00:12:36.52 So right there is what we're gonna take verse 22. 00:12:36.55\00:12:38.85 Sure. 00:12:38.89\00:12:40.26 So purple and fine woven linen, 00:12:40.29\00:12:42.32 describing the garment of the high priest. 00:12:42.36\00:12:44.03 Absolutely. 00:12:44.06\00:12:45.39 So when you see here, 00:12:45.43\00:12:46.83 at the very opening of the story, 00:12:46.90\00:12:49.30 it says, 00:12:49.33\00:12:50.77 the rich men were clothed in purple and fine linen. 00:12:50.80\00:12:54.04 And when you look at the hierarchy 00:12:54.07\00:12:55.47 of the Jewish economy, 00:12:55.50\00:12:57.84 the high priest, I mean, the high priest. 00:12:57.87\00:12:59.94 Right. 00:12:59.97\00:13:01.31 He is as high as you can go, he's the high priest, 00:13:01.34\00:13:03.65 and his garments were very well tailored, 00:13:03.68\00:13:05.88 if I could use that, 00:13:05.91\00:13:07.25 but all the colors had symbolism in them. 00:13:07.32\00:13:09.48 And so right away, Jesus is connecting. 00:13:09.52\00:13:11.69 He's talking to the Pharisees, He's talking to the scribes, 00:13:11.72\00:13:13.96 He's talking to the religious leaders, 00:13:13.99\00:13:15.89 and right away it should jump out at them, 00:13:15.92\00:13:19.59 "Is he talking to us?" 00:13:19.63\00:13:21.86 Okay. 00:13:21.90\00:13:23.23 Absolutely. Is he talking to us, okay. 00:13:23.26\00:13:25.17 But there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, full of sores, 00:13:25.20\00:13:29.04 who was laid at His gate. 00:13:29.07\00:13:31.54 Now this part, this is an amazing part, 00:13:31.57\00:13:33.88 also beggar. 00:13:33.91\00:13:36.75 When you look at the story, 00:13:36.78\00:13:38.11 the rich man has something that the beggar wants. 00:13:38.15\00:13:41.12 Right. 00:13:41.15\00:13:42.48 And let's find out what that is. 00:13:42.52\00:13:43.89 Verse 21 00:13:43.92\00:13:45.32 Verse 21 says, "Desiring to be fed with the crumbs 00:13:45.35\00:13:48.19 which fell from the rich man's table. 00:13:48.22\00:13:50.63 Moreover the dogs came and licked his sores." 00:13:50.66\00:13:53.63 Okay, now where do you get crumbs from often? 00:13:53.70\00:13:57.37 Where does crumbs come from? From food. 00:13:57.40\00:13:58.73 Right, from food. 00:13:58.77\00:14:00.14 Or specifically, 00:14:00.17\00:14:01.50 Jesus is referred to as the blank of life. 00:14:01.54\00:14:02.87 And the bread. The bread of life. 00:14:02.90\00:14:04.31 Absolutely. 00:14:04.34\00:14:05.67 They've been given the bread. 00:14:05.71\00:14:07.64 They had the bread for... 00:14:07.68\00:14:09.74 Oh, at this point about 2,000 years. 00:14:09.78\00:14:12.28 Right. 00:14:12.31\00:14:13.65 They had the bread, they wouldn't share the bread. 00:14:13.72\00:14:15.42 So the beggars, those who want to be fed. 00:14:15.45\00:14:17.95 Right. 00:14:17.99\00:14:19.32 And the big, the sad reality of the gospel, Ryan, 00:14:19.35\00:14:21.02 is when you have the bread of life, 00:14:21.06\00:14:22.99 and you don't share it, 00:14:23.02\00:14:24.36 and there are people begging for it. 00:14:24.39\00:14:25.73 Right. 00:14:25.76\00:14:27.10 And they'll say, if you just give me some crumbs, 00:14:27.13\00:14:29.03 but let's look at the symbolism. 00:14:29.06\00:14:30.67 Go to Matthew 7:6, 00:14:30.70\00:14:33.54 let's look at the crumbs and the dogs. 00:14:33.57\00:14:35.64 We're gonna start with Matthew 7, 00:14:35.67\00:14:38.14 and we're gonna start with verse 6. 00:14:38.17\00:14:39.51 We're gonna stay in Matthew 7 00:14:39.54\00:14:40.88 because Jesus brings this out very carefully. 00:14:40.91\00:14:42.54 Look at verse 6 about the dogs, start there. 00:14:42.58\00:14:45.28 Okay, verse 6 says, 00:14:45.31\00:14:46.65 "Do not give what is holy to the dogs, 00:14:46.72\00:14:48.85 nor cast your pearls before the swine, 00:14:48.88\00:14:51.52 lest they trample them under their feet, 00:14:51.55\00:14:53.36 and turn and tear you in pieces." 00:14:53.39\00:14:56.12 Okay, and now we're gonna give a picture now 00:14:56.16\00:14:58.76 of what he meant by dogs. 00:14:58.79\00:15:00.80 Sure. Look at verse 27 and 28. 00:15:00.83\00:15:02.70 So the Bible says in Mark 7:27, 00:15:02.73\00:15:06.20 "But Jesus said to her, 00:15:06.23\00:15:07.57 'Let the children be filled first, 00:15:07.64\00:15:09.04 for it is not good to take the children's bread 00:15:09.07\00:15:11.21 and throw it to the little dogs.'" 00:15:11.24\00:15:12.94 And verse 28. 00:15:12.97\00:15:14.31 Verse 28, "And she answered and said to Him, 00:15:14.34\00:15:15.74 'Yes, Lord, 00:15:15.78\00:15:17.81 yet even the little dogs 00:15:17.85\00:15:19.68 under the table eat from the children's crumbs.'" 00:15:19.71\00:15:22.08 Here it is. Right. 00:15:22.12\00:15:23.49 Dogs and crumbs, 00:15:23.52\00:15:24.85 where they're saying, 00:15:24.89\00:15:26.22 children, the children had the bread. 00:15:26.25\00:15:28.09 Absolutely. 00:15:28.12\00:15:29.46 The Lord gave the bread to His children 00:15:29.49\00:15:31.83 but this woman is saying, 00:15:31.86\00:15:33.19 who's begging to be fed, she wants the gospel. 00:15:33.23\00:15:35.63 Right. 00:15:35.66\00:15:37.00 And I just have to add here 00:15:37.07\00:15:38.40 also Christ is in this particular parable 00:15:38.43\00:15:40.54 in Luke 16, 00:15:40.57\00:15:42.70 the audience that He is speaking to, 00:15:42.74\00:15:44.64 if you go back up in the previous verses, 00:15:44.67\00:15:46.54 in Luke Chapter 16, you'll find out 00:15:46.57\00:15:48.41 that He's speaking directly to the Pharisees. 00:15:48.44\00:15:50.35 The Pharisees are kind of his small audience here. 00:15:50.38\00:15:54.35 And it's interesting that He would use a story 00:15:54.38\00:15:56.92 in this particular story, the rich man and Lazarus, 00:15:56.99\00:15:58.85 He would use a story that would have often been told 00:15:58.89\00:16:01.09 by the Pharisees to communicate the opposite 00:16:01.12\00:16:03.53 of what Jesus is speaking, right? 00:16:03.56\00:16:04.89 That's right. 00:16:04.93\00:16:06.26 In the Pharisee's story, it would always be the rich man 00:16:06.29\00:16:08.23 that, of course, was blessed by God, 00:16:08.26\00:16:09.73 and he would end up going to Abraham's bosom. 00:16:09.76\00:16:12.10 And then, of course, the beggar who was poor, 00:16:12.13\00:16:14.04 he must have been cursed, 00:16:14.07\00:16:15.40 he would have been one that would end up 00:16:15.44\00:16:16.81 in an eternal burning hell. 00:16:16.84\00:16:18.74 But it's interesting that right here 00:16:18.77\00:16:20.11 in this particular verse, when you're mentioning the, 00:16:20.18\00:16:21.81 you know, the crumbs and, you know, 00:16:21.84\00:16:23.68 the Lazarus was wanting the crumbs 00:16:23.75\00:16:25.78 and the dogs came and licked his sores. 00:16:25.81\00:16:27.15 And you take us back to the story 00:16:27.22\00:16:28.65 of this woman who came to Jesus here in Mark Chapter 7. 00:16:28.68\00:16:32.42 It's interesting that that woman 00:16:32.45\00:16:33.79 was a Canaanite woman. 00:16:33.86\00:16:35.19 That's right. 00:16:35.22\00:16:36.56 she was not a Jew, and so the symbolism here 00:16:36.59\00:16:37.96 that we're already seeing as Christ has flip-flopped 00:16:37.99\00:16:40.33 this particular story around, 00:16:40.40\00:16:42.13 and He's trying to communicate the moral story 00:16:42.16\00:16:44.90 to the Pharisees and saying, 00:16:44.93\00:16:46.27 no, no, it's not the always 00:16:46.30\00:16:47.64 like the way you say it's gonna be. 00:16:47.67\00:16:49.47 In fact, let me tell you a story. 00:16:49.50\00:16:51.17 You see, the Jews often found themselves 00:16:51.21\00:16:53.78 as a higher or much more important 00:16:53.81\00:16:57.28 or much more worthy of the goodness of God 00:16:57.35\00:16:59.58 than that of the Gentiles 00:16:59.61\00:17:01.02 and so this Canaanite woman, in Mark 7, 00:17:01.05\00:17:03.59 she makes that point to Christ. 00:17:03.62\00:17:04.95 He says, yeah, but even the dogs get the crumbs, 00:17:04.99\00:17:07.46 the little dogs get the crumbs that fall from the table. 00:17:07.49\00:17:09.62 In other words, the symbolism here 00:17:09.66\00:17:10.99 as Christ is saying, you know what, 00:17:11.03\00:17:13.03 let me flip-flop this around for you 00:17:13.06\00:17:14.53 just because you may be rich, and you may be thinking, 00:17:14.56\00:17:17.47 you think that you're blessed of God 00:17:17.50\00:17:18.83 doesn't necessarily mean 00:17:18.87\00:17:20.24 you're gonna end up in Abraham's bosom. 00:17:20.27\00:17:22.07 And, you know, 00:17:22.10\00:17:23.44 so He's flip-flopping this around 00:17:23.51\00:17:24.84 to show that the relationship 00:17:24.87\00:17:26.21 between the Jews and the Gentiles 00:17:26.24\00:17:27.68 exactly what He would show Peter 00:17:27.71\00:17:30.25 in the vision, Acts 10, 00:17:30.28\00:17:32.08 when the sheet came down, 00:17:32.11\00:17:33.55 He would reach him and say to him, 00:17:33.62\00:17:34.95 look, you know, these are My people, too, 00:17:34.98\00:17:36.79 and My crumbs, My bread, 00:17:36.82\00:17:38.69 My bread of life is just as much 00:17:38.72\00:17:40.16 for them as it is for you. 00:17:40.19\00:17:41.86 And I'm glad you cited Acts Chapter 10 00:17:41.89\00:17:43.63 because in Acts Chapter 10, that's another story 00:17:43.66\00:17:45.89 that people take and twist it. 00:17:45.93\00:17:47.70 Make him seem like Jesus said eat anything. 00:17:47.73\00:17:49.76 But if you remember when the sheet came down 00:17:49.80\00:17:51.37 with all kinds of unclean foods, 00:17:51.40\00:17:53.44 Peter said, I've never eaten anything common or unclean. 00:17:53.47\00:17:56.30 And then later on when he went to Cornelius's house, 00:17:56.34\00:17:58.87 he said to Cornelius, 00:17:58.91\00:18:00.28 "God has shown me 00:18:00.31\00:18:01.64 that I should not call any man common or unclean." 00:18:01.68\00:18:04.31 Absolutely. 00:18:04.35\00:18:05.68 It's amazing how stories get twisted today 00:18:05.71\00:18:07.05 and all these false doctrines come out of it. 00:18:07.12\00:18:08.78 We're trying to clear up the false teachings. 00:18:08.82\00:18:10.89 Another thing is, 00:18:10.92\00:18:12.29 the Jews never saw any other nation 00:18:12.32\00:18:13.96 as worthy of the gospel. 00:18:13.99\00:18:15.32 That's why at the well, 00:18:15.36\00:18:16.73 the woman that spoke to Jesus here 00:18:16.76\00:18:18.16 in John Chapter 4. 00:18:18.19\00:18:19.83 Look at another example, John 4:9 00:18:19.86\00:18:23.67 And all through the life of Jesus, 00:18:23.70\00:18:25.63 He continued to make example, He's continued to show the Jews 00:18:25.67\00:18:29.20 how unthankful and grateful they were. 00:18:29.24\00:18:31.94 This is John 4:9, 00:18:31.97\00:18:34.01 "Then the woman of Samaria said to Him, 00:18:34.08\00:18:36.31 'How is it that You, being a Jew, 00:18:36.34\00:18:38.31 ask a drink from me, a Samaritan woman? 00:18:38.35\00:18:40.65 For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.'" 00:18:40.72\00:18:43.42 See, and then not only that, 00:18:43.49\00:18:45.19 the 10 lepers in Luke Chapter 16, 00:18:45.22\00:18:48.42 the 10 lepers, none of them were Jews. 00:18:48.46\00:18:51.89 But look what happened to the 10th one. 00:18:51.93\00:18:54.90 Luke 17:16, 00:18:54.93\00:18:57.93 "And fell down on his face at His feet, 00:18:57.97\00:19:00.64 giving Him thanks. 00:19:00.67\00:19:02.00 And he was a Samaritan." Right, right. 00:19:02.04\00:19:03.91 So you see, continually, 00:19:03.94\00:19:05.91 Jesus tried to break down this wall of prejudice 00:19:05.94\00:19:09.81 that the Jews had against other nations. 00:19:09.84\00:19:12.01 Absolutely, and I just want to kind of... 00:19:12.05\00:19:14.22 I don't want to certainly interrupt 00:19:14.25\00:19:15.58 what you're saying there. 00:19:15.62\00:19:16.99 But I want to kind of give lead way 00:19:17.02\00:19:18.35 into the fact that the fact 00:19:18.39\00:19:19.72 that Christ is addressing the Pharisees, 00:19:19.75\00:19:21.09 this was their mentality. 00:19:21.12\00:19:22.46 They were the leaders, 00:19:22.49\00:19:23.83 they were the religious teachers, 00:19:23.86\00:19:25.19 they would have been the, you know, 00:19:25.23\00:19:26.56 the theologians of the day. 00:19:26.59\00:19:27.93 And the fact that Christ has to turn the tables 00:19:27.96\00:19:29.56 to the religious leaders, 00:19:29.60\00:19:31.70 the ones who should know better more than anyone, 00:19:31.73\00:19:33.77 and He's having to instruct them, 00:19:33.84\00:19:35.17 and He's having to reprove them and correct them. 00:19:35.20\00:19:37.41 It's fascinating also to mention here, 00:19:37.44\00:19:39.94 the fact that He is speaking to the Pharisees, 00:19:39.97\00:19:43.01 because Christ in teaching this particular parable, 00:19:43.04\00:19:46.25 as we're gonna continue through this particular parable. 00:19:46.28\00:19:49.65 You will notice that there's lots of symbolism 00:19:49.68\00:19:51.65 and you'll notice that off the cuff. 00:19:51.69\00:19:53.29 If you don't know the rest of the story of Scripture, 00:19:53.36\00:19:56.06 then you will quickly get an understanding 00:19:56.09\00:19:58.23 that as if Christ believed in what He was saying, 00:19:58.26\00:20:00.93 in a sense, that as soon as you die, 00:20:00.96\00:20:03.77 you either end up in one of two places, 00:20:03.80\00:20:05.90 but what Christ was using was, He was using their story, 00:20:05.93\00:20:09.34 their interpretation, their understanding. 00:20:09.37\00:20:11.57 I was doing a little bit of research not too long ago, 00:20:11.61\00:20:13.91 and I found this Flavius Josephus, okay? 00:20:13.98\00:20:15.58 Okay. 00:20:15.61\00:20:16.95 Flavius Josephus was also a Pharisee, 00:20:16.98\00:20:20.15 he was a Jewish historian 00:20:20.22\00:20:21.95 and he was born sometime around, I think, 36, 37 AD. 00:20:21.98\00:20:26.02 So in and around the time 00:20:26.05\00:20:27.49 that Christ and the early church 00:20:27.56\00:20:29.26 had just begun. 00:20:29.29\00:20:30.76 And it's interesting to notice 00:20:30.83\00:20:32.16 that he writes in his book War on the Jews 00:20:32.19\00:20:34.00 pertaining to the belief in the soul, okay. 00:20:34.03\00:20:37.17 That's right. 00:20:37.20\00:20:38.53 Pertaining to the Pharisees 00:20:38.57\00:20:39.90 because he himself was a Pharisee. 00:20:39.93\00:20:41.27 This is what he writes in Wars of the Jews, page 11. 00:20:41.30\00:20:44.51 Notice what he says, he says, 00:20:44.54\00:20:45.87 "They" speaking of the Pharisees, 00:20:45.91\00:20:47.94 "say that all souls are incorruptible, 00:20:47.98\00:20:51.48 but that the souls of good men only 00:20:51.51\00:20:54.22 are removed into other bodies." 00:20:54.25\00:20:56.99 And then he goes on to say, 00:20:57.02\00:20:58.35 "But that the souls of bad man," 00:20:58.39\00:21:00.36 notice the opposition here, 00:21:00.39\00:21:03.12 notice that the souls of bad men 00:21:03.16\00:21:05.36 are subject to eternal punishment. 00:21:05.39\00:21:07.76 But notice, he mentions the Sadducees 00:21:07.80\00:21:09.36 but the Sadducees take away the belief 00:21:09.40\00:21:11.90 of the immortal duration of the soul, 00:21:11.93\00:21:13.87 and the punishment and rewards of Hades. 00:21:13.94\00:21:15.87 So He's using this comparison 00:21:15.90\00:21:18.94 between the Pharisees and Sadducees 00:21:18.97\00:21:20.58 that the Pharisees believed in the immortality of the soul. 00:21:20.61\00:21:23.08 That's right. 00:21:23.11\00:21:24.45 And they believed exactly what Christ was communicating, 00:21:24.48\00:21:25.81 hence why Christ was using the picture, 00:21:25.85\00:21:28.62 and the wording, and the symbolism 00:21:28.65\00:21:29.98 that He was using here to communicate a moral point. 00:21:30.02\00:21:32.62 In fact, we're gonna get to this 00:21:32.65\00:21:33.99 probably in just a few moments, 00:21:34.06\00:21:35.39 but Christ never told this parable 00:21:35.42\00:21:37.23 for the purpose to communicate the truth 00:21:37.26\00:21:38.96 about hellfire and the state of the dead. 00:21:38.99\00:21:41.10 No, He tried to... 00:21:41.13\00:21:42.46 He was undoing what they already believe. 00:21:42.50\00:21:43.87 Exactly, and so but the fact that He was using this... 00:21:43.90\00:21:48.77 It's powerful to note that He was basically... 00:21:48.80\00:21:53.51 This message was flying in the face of the Pharisees 00:21:53.58\00:21:55.51 who believed in the immortality of the soul. 00:21:55.54\00:21:57.55 But their idea, of course, as I said earlier, 00:21:57.58\00:21:59.85 was that if you were rich, if you were well often, 00:21:59.88\00:22:02.18 if you were a Jew, 00:22:02.22\00:22:03.59 it's almost like you have an automatic right 00:22:03.62\00:22:05.02 into the kingdom of God. 00:22:05.05\00:22:06.39 And Christ was turning that around 00:22:06.42\00:22:07.76 about him saying, no, no, no, let me clarify this for you. 00:22:07.79\00:22:10.56 And it's powerful how He uses the imagery 00:22:10.63\00:22:13.40 and the symbolism to communicate the opposite 00:22:13.43\00:22:16.00 of what these religious leaders actually believed. 00:22:16.03\00:22:17.90 That's right. 00:22:17.93\00:22:19.27 And matter of fact, they even referred, 00:22:19.30\00:22:20.64 anytime they didn't agree with Jesus, 00:22:20.67\00:22:22.37 they called Him of another race. 00:22:22.40\00:22:24.01 Right. 00:22:24.04\00:22:25.37 You know, they said in John 8:48 00:22:25.41\00:22:26.78 when the Jews answered and said to Christ, 00:22:26.81\00:22:28.88 "Do we not rightly say 00:22:28.91\00:22:30.25 that You are a Samaritan and You have a demon?" 00:22:30.28\00:22:31.88 Oh, yeah. 00:22:31.91\00:22:33.25 You know, whenever they didn't agree with Jesus, 00:22:33.28\00:22:34.62 they linked Him into another race. 00:22:34.65\00:22:35.98 Yeah, you're not a Jew. 00:22:36.02\00:22:37.39 You're not, you can't be a Jew because of Your behavior. 00:22:37.42\00:22:39.19 And so, we continually see 00:22:39.22\00:22:40.56 that picture drawn in the Bible. 00:22:40.59\00:22:41.92 But there's a point that you made a moment ago, 00:22:41.96\00:22:43.32 and I want to talk about this just a brief second. 00:22:43.36\00:22:46.03 The reason why this is so important 00:22:46.06\00:22:47.40 for Jesus to undo as there was a teaching, 00:22:47.43\00:22:49.10 today, it's called Neoplatonism. 00:22:49.13\00:22:50.97 Yes. 00:22:51.00\00:22:52.33 If you look up that Neoplatonistic ideology, 00:22:52.37\00:22:54.80 it came from Plato, 00:22:54.84\00:22:56.17 who taught that the soul was immortal by nature. 00:22:56.20\00:22:58.91 And that's why Jesus stayed away for four days 00:22:58.94\00:23:03.35 before He raised literal Lazarus. 00:23:03.38\00:23:05.55 Right, right. 00:23:05.58\00:23:06.92 He stayed away for four days 00:23:06.95\00:23:08.28 because the Jews in this Neoplatonistic belief. 00:23:08.32\00:23:10.89 Look it up Neoplatonism. 00:23:10.92\00:23:13.56 P- L-A-T-O-N-I-S-M Neo. 00:23:13.59\00:23:16.52 They believe that three days the soul made an attempt 00:23:16.56\00:23:19.59 to get back into the body, which you just pointed out. 00:23:19.63\00:23:22.13 And if it was successful, the person came back to life, 00:23:22.16\00:23:24.60 but if they didn't succeed, 00:23:24.63\00:23:26.07 then the person was deemed to death. 00:23:26.10\00:23:27.70 Right, right. 00:23:27.74\00:23:29.07 Jesus stayed away for four days to confirm, to say to them, 00:23:29.10\00:23:31.87 okay, let me let you realize 00:23:31.91\00:23:34.08 that souls don't bring bodies back to life. 00:23:34.11\00:23:36.41 I am the resurrection of life. 00:23:36.44\00:23:39.15 So you see clearly, 00:23:39.18\00:23:40.52 Jesus was having to come to His own people, 00:23:40.55\00:23:42.85 His own children with the bread, 00:23:42.88\00:23:45.29 who wouldn't even share the crumbs 00:23:45.32\00:23:47.36 and had to untwist so much 00:23:47.39\00:23:49.56 of what they twisted through years. 00:23:49.59\00:23:50.93 Absolutely, absolutely. 00:23:50.96\00:23:52.29 Let's go to the next symbolism here. 00:23:52.33\00:23:53.70 What verse are we now? 00:23:53.73\00:23:55.06 Verse 22, I think. Yes. 00:23:55.10\00:23:56.97 Verse 22, let's go that one now. 00:23:57.00\00:23:58.33 Sure. 00:23:58.37\00:23:59.70 So verse 22 says, "So it was that the beggar died, 00:23:59.73\00:24:01.64 and was carried by the angels to Abraham's bosom. 00:24:01.67\00:24:04.71 The rich man also died and was buried. 00:24:04.74\00:24:07.28 And being in torments in Hades, he lifted up his eyes 00:24:07.31\00:24:10.08 and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom." 00:24:10.15\00:24:13.42 Now I have to add here just for a moment, 00:24:13.45\00:24:15.22 because many people want to apply 00:24:15.25\00:24:17.95 or read into this something that's not here. 00:24:17.99\00:24:20.36 Thank you. 00:24:20.39\00:24:21.72 And that is the fact that, notice that, 00:24:21.76\00:24:23.09 Christ often in His ministry and in His words, 00:24:23.12\00:24:25.13 if something were to happen, immediately following an event, 00:24:25.16\00:24:27.60 He would use the word immediately. 00:24:27.63\00:24:29.66 And you'll notice that the word immediately 00:24:29.70\00:24:31.20 is not found here. 00:24:31.23\00:24:32.57 In other words, we cannot apply the fact 00:24:32.60\00:24:33.94 that Christ was communicating 00:24:33.97\00:24:35.47 that these particular individuals 00:24:35.50\00:24:36.84 went immediately upon the point of death 00:24:36.91\00:24:39.04 to again, heaven or hell 00:24:39.07\00:24:40.78 as the symbolism is communicating here. 00:24:40.81\00:24:43.28 But rather, He is just simply stating the fact, 00:24:43.35\00:24:46.41 just the fate of the two, 00:24:46.45\00:24:48.18 and it's not specified in the text, 00:24:48.22\00:24:50.22 whether or not it happened immediately or not. 00:24:50.29\00:24:51.75 In fact, you can't read that in here at all. 00:24:51.79\00:24:54.62 Thank you. 00:24:54.66\00:24:55.99 So that's another thing, 00:24:56.02\00:24:57.63 this immediate departure to your destination. 00:24:57.66\00:25:00.10 Right. 00:25:00.13\00:25:01.46 And we know we'll see about this in John Chapter 5 00:25:01.50\00:25:02.83 in just a moment here. 00:25:02.86\00:25:04.20 But I want to point out something, 00:25:04.27\00:25:05.60 the other symbolism jumps up in these two verses. 00:25:05.63\00:25:07.84 Right, absolutely. Watch this. 00:25:07.87\00:25:10.01 Is Abraham's bosom the cemetery? 00:25:10.04\00:25:13.61 Absolutely not. 00:25:13.68\00:25:15.01 I mean, it brings a smile to our hearts... 00:25:15.04\00:25:16.38 It does, sure. 00:25:16.41\00:25:17.75 That they're being buried in Abraham's bosom. 00:25:17.78\00:25:20.12 Why Abraham, 00:25:20.15\00:25:21.48 why does he continually bring Abraham 00:25:21.52\00:25:24.29 into the picture? 00:25:24.32\00:25:25.65 Now we're gonna address that right now. 00:25:25.69\00:25:27.59 Absolutely. 00:25:27.66\00:25:28.99 And then we're gonna see how many times 00:25:29.02\00:25:30.36 Abraham is talked about further on. 00:25:30.39\00:25:31.73 But let's go to Matthew 3:9, 00:25:31.76\00:25:35.23 once again, the Jews thought it 00:25:35.26\00:25:37.80 since we have Abraham as our father 00:25:37.83\00:25:39.17 and you see in the Old Testament, 00:25:39.20\00:25:40.57 the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. 00:25:40.64\00:25:42.54 The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. 00:25:42.57\00:25:44.14 Right. 00:25:44.21\00:25:45.54 And they held that as a, you know, an armband, a pride, 00:25:45.57\00:25:47.58 almost like a medal in the Olympics. 00:25:47.61\00:25:49.44 Sure. 00:25:49.48\00:25:50.85 But Jesus had to break down this idea 00:25:50.88\00:25:52.21 that you are not any different than any other nation. 00:25:52.25\00:25:55.15 Only that I chose you like the post office 00:25:55.18\00:25:57.79 to deliver the package 00:25:57.82\00:25:59.32 but you have the same blood, the same heart, 00:25:59.35\00:26:00.89 when you die you have the same fate. 00:26:00.96\00:26:02.76 Look at Matthew 3:9, 00:26:02.79\00:26:05.06 and this is one of that lead us to the attitude they have. 00:26:05.09\00:26:09.10 Sure, the Bible says, 00:26:09.13\00:26:10.47 "And do not think to say to yourselves, 00:26:10.50\00:26:12.67 'We have Abraham as our father.' 00:26:12.70\00:26:15.47 For I say to you 00:26:15.50\00:26:16.84 that God is able to raise up children 00:26:16.91\00:26:19.01 to Abraham from these stones." 00:26:19.04\00:26:21.51 Okay, right away, they're boasting, 00:26:21.54\00:26:22.88 don't say that whatever you do, 00:26:22.91\00:26:24.55 don't say Abraham is your father, 00:26:24.58\00:26:26.55 please don't go there. 00:26:26.58\00:26:27.92 Sure, sure. 00:26:27.95\00:26:29.28 And so this ideology, once again, 00:26:29.32\00:26:30.69 the preferential ideology is, 00:26:30.72\00:26:32.65 Abraham is our Father 00:26:32.69\00:26:34.06 and then also they talked about Jesus. 00:26:34.09\00:26:37.03 Look at John 8:57. Yes. 00:26:37.06\00:26:39.33 They said to Jesus, 'cause Jesus came 00:26:39.36\00:26:41.13 continually trying to reveal Himself to them, 00:26:41.16\00:26:43.77 and they couldn't get it that He's the Messiah, 00:26:43.80\00:26:45.87 they kept going back to their progenitors. 00:26:45.90\00:26:48.70 Right, absolutely. 00:26:48.74\00:26:50.11 Oh, I have to just say, 00:26:50.14\00:26:51.47 just let's look at verse 56 along with this, 00:26:51.51\00:26:53.78 so Christ makes the point here, 00:26:53.81\00:26:55.14 "Your father Abraham rejoiced to see My day, 00:26:55.18\00:26:58.85 and he saw it and was glad." 00:26:58.88\00:27:00.52 And of course, the response in 57 00:27:00.55\00:27:02.02 and the Jews said to Him, 00:27:02.05\00:27:03.39 "You are not yet 50 years old, and have You seen Abraham?" 00:27:03.42\00:27:06.62 And then, of course, verse 58, 00:27:06.65\00:27:07.99 "Jesus said to them, 'Most assuredly, I say to you, 00:27:08.02\00:27:10.03 before Abraham was, I AM.'" 00:27:10.06\00:27:12.03 Right, He's showing, hey, you keep saying Abraham, 00:27:12.06\00:27:14.70 but the reality of it is, I have preceded him, 00:27:14.73\00:27:18.03 and I'm here after him. 00:27:18.07\00:27:19.40 Right. 00:27:19.43\00:27:20.77 I'm pre and post Abraham, only God can do that. 00:27:20.84\00:27:22.84 Absolutely. 00:27:22.87\00:27:24.21 So once again, he's breaking down 00:27:24.24\00:27:25.57 this preferential ideology 00:27:25.61\00:27:26.98 and Galatians 3:29, 00:27:27.01\00:27:31.18 because once again, 00:27:31.21\00:27:32.61 the Jews thought that since Abraham is, 00:27:32.65\00:27:35.18 since they're of the seed of Abraham, 00:27:35.22\00:27:36.89 then surely we have the right, 00:27:36.92\00:27:38.25 but look at what Paul says in Galatians 3:29. 00:27:38.29\00:27:40.99 Actually, I think verse 28 and 29. 00:27:41.02\00:27:43.02 Sure, absolutely. 00:27:43.06\00:27:44.39 Verse 28, 29, says, 00:27:44.43\00:27:45.76 "There is neither Jew nor Greek, 00:27:45.79\00:27:47.40 there is neither slave nor free, 00:27:47.43\00:27:49.23 there is neither male nor female, 00:27:49.26\00:27:51.27 for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 00:27:51.30\00:27:54.50 And if you are Christ's, then you are Abraham's seed, 00:27:54.54\00:27:57.67 and heirs according to the promise." 00:27:57.71\00:27:59.84 Nothing could burn a Jews collar more than that. 00:27:59.87\00:28:02.81 Paul is saying, "If you're in Jesus, 00:28:02.84\00:28:04.98 you are heir of Abraham." 00:28:05.01\00:28:06.35 Absolutely. 00:28:06.38\00:28:07.72 You are gonna benefit from that seed, 00:28:07.75\00:28:09.38 and nothing could burn the Jews more. 00:28:09.42\00:28:10.99 That's why they resisted Him so much, 00:28:11.02\00:28:13.02 like in Antioch Chapter 30, 00:28:13.05\00:28:14.99 Antioch in the Book of Acts 13:40-46. 00:28:15.02\00:28:18.66 You read a story 00:28:18.69\00:28:20.03 when Paul and Barnabas was in Antioch preaching, 00:28:20.10\00:28:21.70 the Jews were excited 00:28:21.73\00:28:23.06 until the Gentiles came the next Sabbath 00:28:23.10\00:28:24.93 to hear the sermon. 00:28:24.97\00:28:26.30 And then they began to contradict 00:28:26.33\00:28:27.67 and blaspheme them 00:28:27.70\00:28:29.04 and turn the entire town against Paul and Barnabas. 00:28:29.07\00:28:31.04 So once again, the symbolism here 00:28:31.07\00:28:32.44 is preferential treatment that Jews believe they had 00:28:32.47\00:28:35.64 and the Lord is breaking it down 00:28:35.68\00:28:37.05 in this parable. 00:28:37.08\00:28:38.41 Absolutely, in fact, the irony of this 00:28:38.45\00:28:39.78 is if you go back to John Chapter 8, 00:28:39.81\00:28:41.55 just referencing it, 00:28:41.58\00:28:42.92 you read that particular chapter, 00:28:42.95\00:28:44.29 Christ is actually condemning, 00:28:44.32\00:28:46.39 and He's rebuking the Pharisees 00:28:46.42\00:28:48.42 because again, they're calling themselves 00:28:48.46\00:28:50.46 seeds and heirs of Abraham, but Christ says, look, 00:28:50.53\00:28:52.99 you know what, you can't really call yourself that 00:28:53.03\00:28:54.93 because you don't believe in Me, 00:28:54.96\00:28:56.30 you don't believe in My Word. 00:28:56.33\00:28:57.67 I give you My Word, you don't trust in it. 00:28:57.70\00:28:59.03 I tell you, who I am, you don't believe who I am, 00:28:59.07\00:29:01.84 and I think of, you know, 00:29:01.87\00:29:03.51 we're gonna get to this in just a little bit 00:29:03.54\00:29:05.24 and apply some emphasis to this. 00:29:05.27\00:29:06.61 But the fact that, you know, 00:29:06.68\00:29:08.01 those first five books of the Bible, 00:29:08.04\00:29:09.38 this is what they live by. 00:29:09.41\00:29:10.75 They live by that Torah, that Pentateuch, 00:29:10.78\00:29:12.28 the first five, Genesis, Exodus, 00:29:12.31\00:29:14.22 Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy 00:29:14.25\00:29:15.72 which again, Moses wrote, 00:29:15.75\00:29:17.52 and they were all about the writings of Moses, 00:29:17.59\00:29:19.29 they were all about the prophetic and the promises 00:29:19.32\00:29:22.19 that Moses had to give of the Messiah, 00:29:22.22\00:29:24.03 but when the Messiah showed up, 00:29:24.06\00:29:25.49 Jesus says, look, he spoke of me. 00:29:25.53\00:29:28.50 In those writings, Moses spoke of me, 00:29:28.53\00:29:30.20 but yet you do not believe. 00:29:30.27\00:29:32.17 Read John 5:39, 00:29:32.20\00:29:33.54 that's a very point you're making 00:29:33.57\00:29:34.90 because the Jews, and Jesus is standing, 00:29:34.94\00:29:37.94 now how obvious can it be. 00:29:37.97\00:29:40.18 Jesus is standing right there in the flesh 00:29:40.21\00:29:42.94 and the religious leaders are reading, 00:29:42.98\00:29:45.61 reading the prophets, 00:29:45.65\00:29:47.52 reading the Book of Moses to, 00:29:47.55\00:29:49.62 you know, as you just mentioned the first five books. 00:29:49.65\00:29:51.65 They're locked into the law and the Torah. 00:29:51.69\00:29:53.69 And look what Jesus said. 00:29:53.76\00:29:55.09 Jesus says in John 5:39, it says, 00:29:55.12\00:29:58.79 "You search the Scriptures, 00:29:58.83\00:30:00.20 for in them you think you have eternal life, 00:30:00.23\00:30:02.23 and these are they which testify of Me." 00:30:02.26\00:30:04.57 And notice, He didn't say, 00:30:04.60\00:30:06.17 for in them you have eternal life, 00:30:06.20\00:30:07.64 he says, in them you think you have eternal... 00:30:07.67\00:30:10.11 You think, He says, you think. 00:30:10.14\00:30:11.94 So we often read this chapter to get people to rear it. 00:30:11.97\00:30:14.28 We often recite this verse 00:30:14.31\00:30:15.64 to get people to study their Bibles. 00:30:15.68\00:30:17.35 Here's the point, when you study your Bible, 00:30:17.38\00:30:19.11 don't think that eternal life is in your Bible, 00:30:19.15\00:30:20.95 it's still in Jesus. 00:30:20.98\00:30:22.32 It's still in Christ. Absolutely. 00:30:22.35\00:30:23.69 That's what I was gonna say to them. 00:30:23.72\00:30:25.05 So let's go to the next part of the story. 00:30:25.09\00:30:26.42 Sure. 00:30:26.45\00:30:27.79 It's an amazing story, Jesus is having 00:30:27.82\00:30:29.16 and the hardest thing, 00:30:29.19\00:30:30.53 the hardest thing that He did, 00:30:30.56\00:30:31.89 and by the way, you know, the Daniel 9, 00:30:31.93\00:30:34.36 there was that 70-week prophecy. 00:30:34.40\00:30:35.73 Sure. 00:30:35.76\00:30:37.10 Jesus came in the first, 00:30:37.17\00:30:38.50 the last three and a half years to try to get to the first 00:30:38.53\00:30:40.74 go to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. 00:30:40.77\00:30:42.87 He even told His disciples, 00:30:42.90\00:30:44.24 first go to the lost sheep of the house of Israel 00:30:44.31\00:30:45.81 'cause they're still lost. 00:30:45.84\00:30:47.18 But they have three and a half years left 00:30:47.21\00:30:48.94 of that last one week, before I cut them off. 00:30:48.98\00:30:51.38 Absolutely. 00:30:51.41\00:30:52.75 So He is trying to break through to them. 00:30:52.78\00:30:54.32 And even the last evidence is when Stephen was stoned, 00:30:54.35\00:30:56.99 and then Paul said, 00:30:57.02\00:30:58.35 now the gospel's gonna to the Gentiles. 00:30:58.39\00:30:59.72 Absolutely. 00:30:59.75\00:31:01.09 But you find now, very next verse 00:31:01.12\00:31:02.46 where we are is, 00:31:02.49\00:31:03.83 and he's gonna talk about the conditions, 00:31:03.86\00:31:05.19 the conditions that are often 00:31:05.23\00:31:06.93 the fate of those who ignore the Lord. 00:31:07.00\00:31:08.63 And the conditions of those who embrace the Lord. 00:31:08.66\00:31:11.23 Verse 24 and 25 00:31:11.27\00:31:12.60 Verse 24 says, he... 00:31:12.63\00:31:14.70 I just want to pause this for a moment. 00:31:14.74\00:31:16.07 Just look at also the wording, the previous verse, verse 23. 00:31:16.10\00:31:18.67 And being in torments in Hades, we mentioned this earlier, 00:31:18.71\00:31:22.34 Hades obviously comes from Greek mythology. 00:31:22.38\00:31:24.45 So you can see this Greek Hellenistic mentality 00:31:24.48\00:31:27.42 that Christ is using to further communicate this. 00:31:27.45\00:31:29.98 He's not saying He believes in this, 00:31:30.02\00:31:31.35 He's not confirming that this is His mentality 00:31:31.39\00:31:33.56 or His theology, 00:31:33.59\00:31:34.92 but yet He's using this to communicate the story. 00:31:34.96\00:31:37.26 And then we have some context clues for that. 00:31:37.33\00:31:38.99 Notice verse... But he's using their language. 00:31:39.03\00:31:40.73 Absolutely. 00:31:40.80\00:31:42.13 So he's trying to say, does it sound like 00:31:42.16\00:31:43.87 if somebody comes from Australia and say, 00:31:43.90\00:31:46.50 The New York Knicks, your President, 00:31:46.53\00:31:49.20 the White House, Congress, 00:31:49.24\00:31:51.04 we're saying why are they talking that way? 00:31:51.07\00:31:52.44 They're trying to come, you Americans 00:31:52.47\00:31:54.28 and then all of a sudden, yeah, they're talking about us. 00:31:54.31\00:31:56.41 The Lord is using their language 00:31:56.44\00:31:57.91 to get a message to them. 00:31:57.95\00:31:59.28 Go ahead. Absolutely. 00:31:59.31\00:32:00.65 Verse 24 and onward, it says, "Then he cried and said, 00:32:00.72\00:32:04.22 'Father Abraham, have mercy on me 00:32:04.29\00:32:06.86 and send Lazarus 00:32:06.89\00:32:08.96 that he may dip the tip of his finger in water 00:32:08.99\00:32:12.33 and cool my tongue, 00:32:12.36\00:32:13.90 for I am tormented in this flame." 00:32:13.93\00:32:16.97 And I don't smirk in fact... You can't get past that. 00:32:17.00\00:32:18.60 Yeah, I don't smirk in the fact that he's in these flames, 00:32:18.63\00:32:22.07 just the symbolism, 00:32:22.10\00:32:23.44 the fact that someone could believe that 00:32:23.51\00:32:24.84 this is a literal story. 00:32:24.87\00:32:26.21 If this is a literal story, 00:32:26.24\00:32:27.58 then we have to apply every single line upon line, 00:32:27.61\00:32:29.31 precept on precept as a literal application 00:32:29.34\00:32:32.81 and I'm just thinking, 00:32:32.85\00:32:34.22 he really goes on to say and cool my tongue, 00:32:34.25\00:32:36.15 for I'm tormented in this flames. 00:32:36.18\00:32:37.52 Have you? 00:32:37.59\00:32:38.92 And I use this in my evangelistic series. 00:32:38.95\00:32:40.29 I tell people, imagine you're standing 00:32:40.32\00:32:42.22 in flaming fires, 00:32:42.26\00:32:44.69 will you first of all, it just amazes me 00:32:44.73\00:32:46.56 that this guy has the intelligence 00:32:46.59\00:32:49.03 and a coherent mind to be able to communicate these things. 00:32:49.06\00:32:50.80 Right. 00:32:50.87\00:32:52.20 Because, you know, that this is symbolic 00:32:52.23\00:32:53.57 because you go put yourself in flames 00:32:53.60\00:32:55.44 and try to hold 00:32:55.47\00:32:56.81 an intelligent conversation with someone, 00:32:56.84\00:32:58.17 it's just not gonna happen. 00:32:58.21\00:32:59.54 It's just, it's definitely not gonna happen. 00:32:59.57\00:33:00.98 But the fact that, you know, the irony of this, 00:33:01.01\00:33:03.04 that he would say, 00:33:03.08\00:33:04.41 "All I need is a drop to cool my tongue 00:33:04.45\00:33:06.58 and to help me from these torments." 00:33:06.61\00:33:08.85 We know that obviously, there's something parable. 00:33:08.88\00:33:10.99 And if you burn your hand in the sink, 00:33:11.02\00:33:12.52 which is turning on the hot water too quickly. 00:33:12.55\00:33:14.36 You're not gonna stand there... 00:33:14.39\00:33:15.72 But you please just dip a little, 00:33:15.76\00:33:17.13 you'd be screaming. 00:33:17.16\00:33:18.49 It's just not a coherent moment. 00:33:18.53\00:33:19.86 Absolutely. Verse 25. 00:33:19.89\00:33:21.23 Verse 25 continues. 00:33:21.26\00:33:22.60 Look at the connection once again, back to the Jews. 00:33:22.63\00:33:24.33 Back to Abraham "But Abraham said, 00:33:24.37\00:33:26.60 'Son, remember that in your lifetime 00:33:26.63\00:33:29.00 you received your good things, 00:33:29.04\00:33:30.44 and likewise Lazarus evil things, 00:33:30.51\00:33:33.31 but now he is comforted and you are tormented." 00:33:33.38\00:33:37.65 Showing how the story flips. 00:33:37.68\00:33:39.05 You thought you had the right but He's the one. 00:33:39.08\00:33:41.78 And that's why Jesus said when the Pharisees saw, 00:33:41.82\00:33:43.59 I'm sitting with the publicans, 00:33:43.62\00:33:44.95 the harlots, the tax collectors. 00:33:44.99\00:33:46.32 Jesus said, 00:33:46.35\00:33:47.69 they'll make the kingdom before you, 00:33:47.72\00:33:49.06 because they will continually seen as unworthy. 00:33:49.09\00:33:51.59 But they accepted Jesus, 00:33:51.63\00:33:53.19 they were in the company of Jesus. 00:33:53.23\00:33:54.86 And then Jesus said to them, 00:33:54.90\00:33:56.33 if you were sick, I could help you. 00:33:56.36\00:33:58.20 But since you don't need a physician, 00:33:58.23\00:34:00.24 I can't do anything for you. 00:34:00.27\00:34:01.60 Absolutely. 00:34:01.64\00:34:02.97 They wouldn't admit their sinful condition. 00:34:03.00\00:34:04.34 It's fair to state that Christ was a rebel. 00:34:04.37\00:34:06.88 He was not a rebel to the kingdom of God 00:34:06.91\00:34:09.24 and God's agenda. 00:34:09.28\00:34:10.65 He was a rebel to this manmade false system 00:34:10.68\00:34:13.85 that had been established and continued forward, 00:34:13.92\00:34:17.12 influenced by the Hellenistic in Greek 00:34:17.19\00:34:19.09 and Roman mythologies and philosophies of the day. 00:34:19.12\00:34:23.32 So Christ is now coming in 00:34:23.36\00:34:25.33 as a rebel against their agenda, 00:34:25.36\00:34:27.23 and He's saying, look, let me clear this like, 00:34:27.30\00:34:28.93 let me clear the air, let me set the record straight. 00:34:28.96\00:34:31.47 This is not how you think it is. 00:34:31.50\00:34:34.04 It's actually this way. 00:34:34.07\00:34:35.40 And so that's what we're seeing here. 00:34:35.44\00:34:36.77 This is just one example of that. 00:34:36.81\00:34:38.24 And I'm gonna continue verse 26. 00:34:38.27\00:34:39.94 Before we read verse 26, 00:34:39.97\00:34:41.91 you'll begin to see right away 00:34:41.94\00:34:43.45 when in death, in the judgment, 00:34:43.48\00:34:46.65 there will be no connection between the two sides. 00:34:46.72\00:34:48.45 Right, absolutely. 00:34:48.48\00:34:49.82 There will be no connection, 00:34:49.85\00:34:51.19 nobody is gonna be leaving there 00:34:51.22\00:34:52.55 and coming over here and nobody leaving... 00:34:52.59\00:34:53.96 There'll be no connection in the judgment. 00:34:53.99\00:34:56.49 When the 1,000 years is done 00:34:56.52\00:34:58.66 and just before the lake of fire, 00:34:58.69\00:35:00.03 which is described in this story, 00:35:00.10\00:35:01.50 there'll be no communication on both sides. 00:35:01.53\00:35:03.23 And it says that in verse 26, 00:35:03.26\00:35:05.00 "And besides all this, 00:35:05.03\00:35:06.37 between us and you there is a great gulf fixed, 00:35:06.40\00:35:09.94 so that those who want to pass from here to you cannot, 00:35:10.01\00:35:14.58 nor can those from here pass to us." 00:35:14.61\00:35:17.85 In other words, we can't even connect. 00:35:17.88\00:35:19.85 And then the righteous, the Bible says in Hebrews, 00:35:19.88\00:35:21.92 it's appointed unto men once to die, 00:35:21.95\00:35:24.09 and after that the judgment, so there is no... 00:35:24.12\00:35:26.52 And you'll see clearly, 00:35:26.55\00:35:27.89 we're gonna wrap this in Scripture 00:35:27.92\00:35:29.26 right after these next few verses. 00:35:29.29\00:35:31.36 Then he said, another symbolistic language, 00:35:31.39\00:35:33.80 once again, going back to Abraham. 00:35:33.83\00:35:36.30 Then he said, I beg you, therefore Father 00:35:36.33\00:35:38.70 that you would send him to my father's house, 00:35:38.73\00:35:41.80 for I have how many brothers? 00:35:41.84\00:35:43.74 Five brothers. 00:35:43.81\00:35:45.64 List those books again, Genesis, Exodus... 00:35:45.67\00:35:47.28 Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy. 00:35:47.31\00:35:50.05 The five books 00:35:50.08\00:35:51.41 that the Jews put their heaviest weight on. 00:35:51.45\00:35:52.78 That's right. 00:35:52.81\00:35:54.15 The Torah, the Pentateuch, the five books. 00:35:54.22\00:35:56.18 They put all their, 00:35:56.22\00:35:57.59 that's what John 5:39 was all about, 00:35:57.62\00:35:59.29 you're searching these books looking for eternal life. 00:35:59.32\00:36:02.12 So now they're saying, we have five brothers. 00:36:02.16\00:36:04.13 And notice what it says, that they may testify to them. 00:36:04.16\00:36:07.73 That's why the Lord says, 00:36:07.76\00:36:09.10 these are they which testify of me. 00:36:09.13\00:36:11.17 Those books testified of Jesus, 00:36:11.20\00:36:12.77 but you're ignoring him, He's right here. 00:36:12.80\00:36:14.60 He said, well, send somebody that they may testify, 00:36:14.64\00:36:17.97 that they may give a clearer message. 00:36:18.01\00:36:19.81 And then He says, 00:36:19.84\00:36:21.18 lest they also come to this place of torment. 00:36:21.21\00:36:23.65 Right. 00:36:23.68\00:36:25.01 And once again, this conversation with a man 00:36:25.05\00:36:26.58 that's dead, Abraham. 00:36:26.61\00:36:28.45 Abraham said to him, they have Moses and the what? 00:36:28.48\00:36:31.89 Prophets. 00:36:31.92\00:36:33.25 Look at Luke 24:27. 00:36:33.29\00:36:35.66 Now once again, he's clearly, this is the clear delineation, 00:36:35.69\00:36:40.00 a clear description of who He's talking about. 00:36:40.03\00:36:41.60 Yes. 00:36:41.63\00:36:42.96 They have Moses and the prophets, who? 00:36:43.00\00:36:45.67 The Amalekites, the Hittites, the Jebusites, the Amorites, 00:36:45.70\00:36:48.34 the Perizzites, the Hivites, 00:36:48.37\00:36:50.11 none of them had Moses and the prophets. 00:36:50.14\00:36:52.04 The Israelites had Moses and the prophets, Luke 24:27? 00:36:52.07\00:36:56.44 Luke 24:27 says, 00:36:56.48\00:36:58.75 "And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, 00:36:58.78\00:37:00.72 He expounded to them in all the Scriptures 00:37:00.75\00:37:03.18 the things concerning Himself." 00:37:03.22\00:37:04.75 That's right. It's powerful. 00:37:04.79\00:37:06.12 And this is the story in the Road to Emmaus. 00:37:06.15\00:37:07.49 That's right. 00:37:07.56\00:37:08.89 He's communicating to a disciple, 00:37:08.92\00:37:10.26 beginning at Moses and the prophets. 00:37:10.29\00:37:11.63 And then you'll find later on, 00:37:11.66\00:37:13.16 this Moses and the prophets seems to be their foundation 00:37:13.19\00:37:16.77 on which they based their eternal hope. 00:37:16.80\00:37:18.13 That's right. 00:37:18.17\00:37:19.50 He says, you can have all the books in the world. 00:37:19.53\00:37:21.17 Let me just put a pin right here. 00:37:21.20\00:37:23.81 Don't find... 00:37:23.84\00:37:25.17 Don't think your foundation is in learning. 00:37:25.21\00:37:28.08 Learning is important. 00:37:28.11\00:37:29.44 Teach them to observe all things I command you. 00:37:29.48\00:37:31.68 But our foundation of salvation is in Jesus. 00:37:31.71\00:37:33.92 Sure. 00:37:33.95\00:37:35.28 That's what the Lord is trying to communicate. 00:37:35.32\00:37:36.69 You're stuck in this ecclesiastical mindset 00:37:36.72\00:37:39.89 that you could teach yourself in. 00:37:39.92\00:37:41.42 That's why they called the disciples ignorant 00:37:41.46\00:37:43.19 and unlearned. 00:37:43.22\00:37:44.56 But what was the key, they were with Jesus. 00:37:44.59\00:37:46.53 Absolutely, and I just want to add to that the fact that, 00:37:46.56\00:37:48.96 you know, we know that, as you said earlier, 00:37:49.00\00:37:51.13 very clearly, and I agree 100%, 00:37:51.17\00:37:53.10 that the Word of God in and of itself 00:37:53.13\00:37:55.20 does not have that power other than Christ Himself. 00:37:55.24\00:37:58.31 He's the one that has the power. 00:37:58.34\00:37:59.87 But Christ did say, speaking of Himself, 00:37:59.91\00:38:01.91 He said, "I am the way the truth and the life." 00:38:01.94\00:38:04.48 And, of course, 00:38:04.51\00:38:05.85 when He was praying in John 17:17 00:38:05.88\00:38:09.98 when He was praying in the Garden of Gethsemane 00:38:10.02\00:38:11.89 before being arrested and taken on to put to trial. 00:38:11.92\00:38:14.69 He says, Thy word. 00:38:14.72\00:38:16.46 He says, sanctify them by Thy truth, 00:38:16.49\00:38:18.26 Thy Word is truth. 00:38:18.29\00:38:20.43 So the Word of God holds the power in as much 00:38:20.50\00:38:22.93 that it points us to the Savior. 00:38:22.96\00:38:25.63 And that's exactly what was happening here, 00:38:25.67\00:38:27.70 this particular man, though he was rich, 00:38:27.74\00:38:30.01 and though he was abundant in all of the delicacies 00:38:30.04\00:38:32.37 and the wonderful things in the world, 00:38:32.41\00:38:34.34 he had rejected the truth, 00:38:34.38\00:38:36.08 he had rejected the Word of God. 00:38:36.11\00:38:38.08 But Lazarus, though he was poor, 00:38:38.11\00:38:40.12 and he was a beggar, he did not, 00:38:40.15\00:38:41.95 he had a pure heart, and God found him worthy. 00:38:41.98\00:38:44.32 The Pharisees in the same way, they were rich. 00:38:44.35\00:38:47.46 Of course, we read, of course, earlier, 00:38:47.49\00:38:49.19 the fine linens and the things that they wore, 00:38:49.22\00:38:50.99 but they rejected the truth when it was brought to them. 00:38:51.03\00:38:53.53 And I just want to pull out here, 00:38:53.60\00:38:55.20 you had just read verses 27 00:38:55.23\00:38:57.73 and through 29, 00:38:57.77\00:38:59.97 where he says there at the end of verse 29, 00:39:00.04\00:39:02.54 they have Moses and the prophets, 00:39:02.57\00:39:04.21 let them hear them, 00:39:04.24\00:39:05.91 you know, to me right there the response 00:39:05.94\00:39:07.94 and I'm gonna speak again, 00:39:07.98\00:39:09.31 my good friend Dennis Priebe, he would say, 00:39:09.34\00:39:11.08 the only two words in the human language 00:39:11.11\00:39:12.91 we should learn is, "Yes, Lord." 00:39:12.95\00:39:14.85 Exactly. 00:39:14.88\00:39:16.22 His response should have been, Ah, I got it, okay, yes, Lord, 00:39:16.25\00:39:19.59 you know, and that's it. 00:39:19.62\00:39:20.96 But what was his response? 00:39:20.99\00:39:22.32 Notice verse 30 here. That's right. Read the two. 00:39:22.36\00:39:24.03 And he said, no, I just want to pause there, 00:39:24.06\00:39:27.23 even though he continues to say, Father, Abraham, 00:39:27.30\00:39:29.10 and he continues the sentence his response to, again, 00:39:29.13\00:39:32.73 what appears to be this divine figure symbolically, 00:39:32.77\00:39:36.04 no, that's not good enough for me. 00:39:36.07\00:39:39.21 And I just want to, you know, testify to the point 00:39:39.24\00:39:42.14 that this particular parable, 00:39:42.18\00:39:45.01 and many other truths in the Bible, 00:39:45.05\00:39:47.15 God's Word is so clear. God's Word is so plain. 00:39:47.22\00:39:49.42 God is not the author of confusion, 00:39:49.45\00:39:51.29 He does not want to confuse us, His word is harmonious. 00:39:51.32\00:39:54.16 He's not gonna say one thing over here, 00:39:54.19\00:39:55.66 and then turn around 00:39:55.69\00:39:57.03 and say another thing over here, 00:39:57.06\00:39:58.39 but yet many people in that fence 00:39:58.43\00:39:59.76 post that I described earlier, 00:39:59.79\00:40:01.13 they would rather go and manipulate, 00:40:01.16\00:40:03.47 and twist, and skew, 00:40:03.50\00:40:04.83 and pervert the two that seems to be off 00:40:04.87\00:40:07.24 and fit their own and create their own theology, 00:40:07.27\00:40:10.01 rather than going with the eight 00:40:10.04\00:40:11.87 that's in harmony with each other. 00:40:11.91\00:40:14.28 And they create their own theology, 00:40:14.31\00:40:16.04 and I cannot count and my heartbreaks, 00:40:16.08\00:40:17.91 cannot count the times I have, 00:40:17.95\00:40:19.35 I've witnessed to people 00:40:19.38\00:40:21.15 and they would have some type of skewed 00:40:21.18\00:40:23.99 or twisted misunderstanding of Scripture. 00:40:24.02\00:40:25.65 And I would go to them and say, 00:40:25.69\00:40:27.06 you know hey, look, the Bible says this, 00:40:27.09\00:40:28.56 you know, notice how clear and harmonious the scriptures 00:40:28.59\00:40:30.93 and the response is, "No, I don't believe that" 00:40:30.96\00:40:33.43 or no, they reject the truth. 00:40:33.50\00:40:35.20 And so very similarly, in the experience 00:40:35.23\00:40:37.30 of what this rich man is going through here, 00:40:37.37\00:40:39.20 he rejected the word that he wanted a dead man. 00:40:39.23\00:40:42.67 That's why in verse 30... 00:40:42.70\00:40:44.31 But before you go to the verse, notice what he asked instead, 00:40:44.34\00:40:47.81 he's asking for a miracle instead. 00:40:47.84\00:40:51.11 And so many people today 00:40:51.15\00:40:52.55 would rather a miracle than the Word of God. 00:40:52.58\00:40:56.02 That's right. 00:40:56.05\00:40:57.39 That's why the Bible says, 00:40:57.42\00:40:58.75 Many false christs and false prophets will rise 00:40:58.79\00:41:00.26 and will deceive many, 00:41:00.29\00:41:01.62 they'll show great signs and wonders." 00:41:01.66\00:41:03.19 Matthew 24. 00:41:03.22\00:41:04.56 "They'll show signs and wonders to deceive." 00:41:04.59\00:41:06.29 Right. 00:41:06.33\00:41:07.66 So don't look for miracles over God's Word. 00:41:07.70\00:41:09.33 If God's Word says it, thank you. 00:41:09.36\00:41:11.37 If God's word says it, 00:41:11.40\00:41:12.73 don't say, hey, well, do a miracle, 00:41:12.77\00:41:14.97 then I believe it. 00:41:15.00\00:41:16.34 And that's the problem with Christianity today. 00:41:16.37\00:41:17.94 They prefer miracles, give me two pills, 00:41:17.97\00:41:20.18 and call me in the morning. 00:41:20.21\00:41:21.54 Take two and call me in the morning 00:41:21.58\00:41:22.91 rather than let God's word speak. 00:41:22.94\00:41:24.31 And by the way, Paul says in 1 Thessalonians 2:13, 00:41:24.35\00:41:28.98 "The Word of God effectively works 00:41:29.02\00:41:31.02 in those who believe." 00:41:31.05\00:41:32.95 So if the Word of God is in you, 00:41:32.99\00:41:34.56 and you believe it, if you let the Word of God in, 00:41:34.59\00:41:36.39 it'll work in you. 00:41:36.42\00:41:37.76 Amen. But you gotta believe it. 00:41:37.79\00:41:39.13 Don't put miracles above the Word of God. 00:41:39.16\00:41:40.90 And verse 31, let's transition... 00:41:40.93\00:41:42.26 Yeah, let's continue on to verse 30 here, 00:41:42.30\00:41:44.37 he says, "And he said to him, 'No, Father Abraham, 00:41:44.40\00:41:47.64 but if one goes to them from the dead," 00:41:47.67\00:41:50.61 and I want you to notice the wording here, okay, 00:41:50.64\00:41:52.74 "if one goes to them from the dead, 00:41:52.77\00:41:55.98 they will repent." 00:41:56.01\00:41:57.45 But then notice verse 31, 00:41:57.48\00:41:59.08 but he said to him speaking of... 00:41:59.11\00:42:01.45 This is Abraham's response. 00:42:01.48\00:42:03.39 But he said to him, 00:42:03.42\00:42:04.75 "If they do not hear Moses and the prophets," 00:42:04.79\00:42:06.52 in other words, if they will not accept 00:42:06.55\00:42:07.99 the plain truth of God's Word as it is. 00:42:08.02\00:42:09.46 That's right. 00:42:09.49\00:42:10.93 Neither will they be persuaded though one, 00:42:10.96\00:42:13.70 notice the word here, rise from the dead, 00:42:13.73\00:42:16.23 there's a different... 00:42:16.26\00:42:17.60 Christ is actually communicating in this parable, 00:42:17.63\00:42:20.04 the differentiation between the belief 00:42:20.07\00:42:22.17 that the Pharisees had and the belief that He had. 00:42:22.20\00:42:24.64 In other words, the Pharisees believed 00:42:24.67\00:42:26.07 in the immortality of the soul. 00:42:26.11\00:42:27.48 And the fact that 00:42:27.51\00:42:28.84 the dead people could come from the dead 00:42:28.88\00:42:30.78 as a dead person, 00:42:30.85\00:42:32.21 as a spirit, as a ghost 00:42:32.25\00:42:34.02 and speak and communicate to the people, 00:42:34.05\00:42:35.82 but notice the opposition that Christ communicates here 00:42:35.85\00:42:39.69 that the truth is, He said, 00:42:39.72\00:42:41.26 neither what they believe will be persuaded though one, 00:42:41.29\00:42:44.03 here's the word, rise from the dead. 00:42:44.06\00:42:45.86 Christ believed in the resurrection of the dead 00:42:45.89\00:42:49.10 rather than someone coming as or from the dead. 00:42:49.13\00:42:51.73 Exactly, those go to them from the dead, see. 00:42:51.77\00:42:54.27 Right. 00:42:54.30\00:42:55.64 You're dead, you're not going anywhere, 00:42:55.67\00:42:57.01 so on this particular note, 00:42:57.04\00:42:58.37 you clearly see they believe in one thing, 00:42:58.41\00:42:59.74 that's why reiterate right here. 00:42:59.77\00:43:01.34 That's why Jesus stayed away for four days 00:43:01.38\00:43:04.08 because they were waiting for someone 00:43:04.15\00:43:05.48 to come from the dead. 00:43:05.51\00:43:06.95 And then that's also the belief 00:43:07.02\00:43:08.58 that's why they guarded the tomb. 00:43:08.62\00:43:10.69 When Jesus died, 00:43:10.72\00:43:12.05 they didn't want Him to come from the dead. 00:43:12.09\00:43:13.86 But He didn't come from the dead, 00:43:13.89\00:43:15.89 He is the resurrection and the life, 00:43:15.92\00:43:17.83 there's a difference all together. 00:43:17.86\00:43:19.19 People when... 00:43:19.23\00:43:20.60 So let's hit, we have about 10 minutes left. 00:43:20.63\00:43:21.96 Sure, sure. 00:43:22.00\00:43:23.33 Let's go ahead and hit this right on the head. 00:43:23.37\00:43:24.70 Let's start with some sound Bible verses. 00:43:24.73\00:43:27.54 Let's first start with John 5:28 and 29. 00:43:27.57\00:43:30.64 What does the Bible say about what happens when you die? 00:43:30.71\00:43:32.67 And this is important. 00:43:32.71\00:43:34.08 Once again, we're gonna wrap this parable. 00:43:34.11\00:43:35.74 This was a parable that Jesus was communicating 00:43:35.78\00:43:39.35 to the leaders of the Jewish nation, 00:43:39.38\00:43:41.45 the scribes the Pharisees, the Sadducees, 00:43:41.48\00:43:44.22 because of the distorted belief they had, 00:43:44.29\00:43:45.89 He was saying, brethren, 00:43:45.92\00:43:47.26 don't think yourself better than other people. 00:43:47.29\00:43:49.16 Because those that you ignore 00:43:49.19\00:43:50.63 will make the kingdom before you 00:43:50.66\00:43:52.23 and all the advantages you had, all the word I gave you, 00:43:52.26\00:43:55.03 all the years that I've taught you, 00:43:55.06\00:43:56.56 all the clothing you wear 00:43:56.60\00:43:58.23 will not give you preferential treatment 00:43:58.27\00:43:59.97 over those that you ignore. 00:44:00.04\00:44:01.37 That's right. 00:44:01.40\00:44:02.74 Take care of the needs, 00:44:02.77\00:44:04.11 the Samaritans that they ignored 00:44:04.14\00:44:05.47 were licking the sores of the beggar. 00:44:05.51\00:44:07.68 He said, those people that you think are outcast, 00:44:07.71\00:44:09.81 they're taking care of the community's needs. 00:44:09.84\00:44:11.28 Absolutely. 00:44:11.31\00:44:12.65 They are feeding the hungry, and clothing the naked, 00:44:12.68\00:44:14.05 and taking stuff to the poor. 00:44:14.12\00:44:15.55 You're not doing anything 00:44:15.58\00:44:16.92 and you think you're gonna make the kingdom. 00:44:16.99\00:44:18.32 That's why Matthew 25 says, 00:44:18.35\00:44:19.92 when you do it to the least of these, 00:44:19.95\00:44:21.32 you've done for Me, that's the measure 00:44:21.36\00:44:23.22 and not necessarily what you have. 00:44:23.26\00:44:24.59 Absolutely. 00:44:24.63\00:44:25.96 John 5:28 and 29, 00:44:25.99\00:44:28.53 Jesus says, "Do not marvel at this, 00:44:28.56\00:44:30.30 for the hour is coming 00:44:30.37\00:44:31.70 in which all who are in the graves 00:44:31.73\00:44:33.64 will hear His voice." 00:44:33.67\00:44:35.54 And come forth that rise factor 00:44:35.57\00:44:37.94 that Christ is talking about in the parable, 00:44:37.97\00:44:39.84 though, notice this, 00:44:39.87\00:44:41.21 "Those who have done good to the resurrection of life, 00:44:41.24\00:44:43.85 and those who have done evil 00:44:43.88\00:44:45.38 to the resurrection of condemnation." 00:44:45.41\00:44:47.55 That's right. And the other thing that... 00:44:47.62\00:44:49.12 So you see the two resurrections, 00:44:49.15\00:44:51.12 the resurrection of life, 00:44:51.15\00:44:52.49 the resurrection of condemnation. 00:44:52.52\00:44:54.36 So those are the resurrections that are coming in the future. 00:44:54.39\00:44:57.16 This is not something that happens when you die. 00:44:57.23\00:44:58.83 Absolutely. Look at another thing. 00:44:58.86\00:45:00.23 And by the way, the symbolism and the story was about fire. 00:45:00.30\00:45:03.06 Let's see what the Bible says about fire. 00:45:03.10\00:45:04.47 What happens to the wicked when they die, 00:45:04.50\00:45:06.37 and when will there be fire? 00:45:06.40\00:45:07.74 Sure. 00:45:07.77\00:45:09.10 When will those who are gonna be destroyed in the fire? 00:45:09.14\00:45:11.54 When is it gonna happen? 00:45:11.57\00:45:12.91 Look at Matthew 13:40-42. 00:45:12.94\00:45:15.21 Yes, I was hoping you were gonna go there. 00:45:15.24\00:45:17.55 This is the parable of the wheat and the tares. 00:45:17.58\00:45:19.58 That's right. 00:45:19.61\00:45:20.95 And what verse did you say again? 00:45:20.98\00:45:22.32 Verse 40-42. 00:45:22.35\00:45:23.69 So 40-42, this is speaking 00:45:23.72\00:45:25.05 of the explanation of the tares. 00:45:25.09\00:45:26.42 That's right. 00:45:26.45\00:45:27.79 And Christ says beginning in verse 40, 00:45:27.82\00:45:29.16 "Therefore, as the tares are gathered, 00:45:29.19\00:45:30.56 and burned in the fire, 00:45:30.63\00:45:31.96 so it will be at the," notice, "end of this." 00:45:31.99\00:45:34.90 And the New King James Version says, 00:45:34.93\00:45:36.26 end of this age, 00:45:36.30\00:45:37.63 only the King James Version uses the same thing 00:45:37.67\00:45:39.20 at the end of this world. 00:45:39.23\00:45:40.87 That's right. 00:45:40.94\00:45:42.27 And so when is the end of this world, 00:45:42.30\00:45:43.64 that would be the question. 00:45:43.67\00:45:45.01 But he goes on to say in verse 41. 00:45:45.04\00:45:46.37 "The Son of Man will send out His angels, 00:45:46.41\00:45:47.74 and they will gather out all of His kingdom 00:45:47.78\00:45:50.35 and all that offended, 00:45:50.38\00:45:51.71 and those who practice lawlessness, 00:45:51.75\00:45:53.52 and will cast them into the furnace of fire. 00:45:53.55\00:45:56.69 There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth." 00:45:56.72\00:45:58.25 And there was wailing 00:45:58.29\00:45:59.62 and gnashing of teeth of the man 00:45:59.65\00:46:00.99 who was in torment in the parable. 00:46:01.02\00:46:02.96 And so when would this happen? 00:46:02.99\00:46:04.33 Christ doesn't say it once. 00:46:04.36\00:46:05.69 He says it again, also, in verse 49, 00:46:05.73\00:46:07.96 notice what Jesus says again in verse 49, 00:46:08.00\00:46:10.10 "So it will be at the end of the world." 00:46:10.17\00:46:13.10 So when will the wicked be the judged? 00:46:13.13\00:46:16.07 When will the righteous be brought forth 00:46:16.10\00:46:18.01 from the graves? 00:46:18.04\00:46:19.37 It's at the end of this world at the second coming of Jesus. 00:46:19.41\00:46:21.44 That's right. 00:46:21.48\00:46:22.84 And they're not gonna be in there saying, I'm thirsty, 00:46:22.88\00:46:25.68 could you give me some water? 00:46:25.71\00:46:27.05 It's really hot over here. 00:46:27.12\00:46:28.45 That's not gonna be the case, 00:46:28.48\00:46:29.82 because they will not exist continually. 00:46:29.85\00:46:31.65 And also, there's something else 00:46:31.69\00:46:33.02 that people insert in this. 00:46:33.05\00:46:34.39 Years ago, I got a pamphlet, 00:46:34.42\00:46:35.76 I still have this book from a pastor, 00:46:35.79\00:46:37.13 I won't say the denomination. 00:46:37.16\00:46:38.49 But he said, well, he start to presuppose 00:46:38.53\00:46:40.70 and this is called eisegesis, adding what's not there. 00:46:40.73\00:46:43.80 Exegesis is expounding on what is there. 00:46:43.87\00:46:46.13 Eisegesis is adding what's not there. 00:46:46.17\00:46:48.04 He said, "Well, this story was about the souls 00:46:48.07\00:46:52.64 of each of those." 00:46:52.67\00:46:54.01 Not once did you find the word soul in the story at all. 00:46:54.08\00:46:55.98 That's right, absolutely. 00:46:56.01\00:46:57.35 Because how can a soul be tormented 00:46:57.38\00:46:59.81 when it has no dimensions. 00:46:59.85\00:47:01.18 Absolutely. 00:47:01.22\00:47:02.55 This is bodily torment of the man as we speak, 00:47:02.58\00:47:03.92 this is bodily discomfort 00:47:03.99\00:47:05.32 that's talked about in the story. 00:47:05.35\00:47:06.69 So let's see what happens? What actually happens? 00:47:06.72\00:47:08.26 Malachi Chapter 4. Yes. 00:47:08.29\00:47:10.23 This is the most rapid fire story 00:47:10.26\00:47:11.79 you've ever had in the short program. 00:47:11.83\00:47:13.19 Absolutely. 00:47:13.23\00:47:14.56 Malachi 4:1 and 3, 00:47:14.60\00:47:16.40 look what the Bible says about the fate of the wicked. 00:47:16.43\00:47:18.57 "For behold, the day is coming" 00:47:18.60\00:47:19.93 Malachi 4:1, "burning like an oven, 00:47:19.97\00:47:22.87 and all the proud, yes, 00:47:22.90\00:47:25.01 all who do wickedly will be stubble. 00:47:25.04\00:47:28.31 And the day which is coming," not at the end of the death, 00:47:28.34\00:47:31.68 "shall burn them up, says the Lord 00:47:31.71\00:47:33.95 that will leave them neither root nor branch," 00:47:34.02\00:47:35.72 in verse 3. 00:47:35.75\00:47:37.09 What about the wicked? Yes. 00:47:37.12\00:47:38.89 "You shall trample the wicked, 00:47:38.92\00:47:40.49 for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet 00:47:40.56\00:47:42.99 on the day that I do this, 00:47:43.02\00:47:44.53 says the Lord of hosts." 00:47:44.56\00:47:45.89 And, Ryan, I want you to go to Psalm 37. 00:47:45.93\00:47:48.70 Go to Psalm 37 00:47:48.73\00:47:50.07 Psalm 37. Verse 18-20. 00:47:50.10\00:47:51.43 Because here's another thing showing you 00:47:51.47\00:47:53.17 that the wicked are not gonna be hanging around. 00:47:53.20\00:47:54.97 They're not gonna be hanging around 00:47:55.00\00:47:56.34 throughout eternity. 00:47:56.37\00:47:57.71 There's not gonna be some eternally burning hell, 00:47:57.74\00:47:59.47 because the Bible made it very clear. 00:47:59.51\00:48:01.08 They're gonna be ashes under the soles of our feet. 00:48:01.11\00:48:03.45 They're gonna be burned up 00:48:03.48\00:48:04.81 but look what David the Psalmist says, 00:48:04.85\00:48:06.58 Psalm 37:18-20. Sure. 00:48:06.61\00:48:08.95 So 18-20 says, "The Lord knows the days of the upright: 00:48:08.98\00:48:12.05 and their inheritance shall be forever." 00:48:12.09\00:48:14.59 The upright forever. Right, right. 00:48:14.62\00:48:16.73 Okay, verse 19, 00:48:16.76\00:48:18.23 "They shall not be ashamed in the evil time, 00:48:18.26\00:48:21.30 and in the days of famine they shall be satisfied." 00:48:21.33\00:48:24.57 And then notice verse 20, 00:48:24.60\00:48:26.30 the wicked says, "But the wicked shall," 00:48:26.33\00:48:28.90 notice the word perish... 00:48:28.94\00:48:30.31 That's right. 00:48:30.34\00:48:31.67 "And the enemies of the Lord, 00:48:31.71\00:48:33.04 like the splendor of the meadows, shall vanish. 00:48:33.07\00:48:35.41 into smoke they shall vanish away." 00:48:35.44\00:48:37.28 That's right. 00:48:37.35\00:48:38.68 So this end result of the wicked is into smoke. 00:48:38.71\00:48:41.92 Right. Malachi says ashes. 00:48:41.95\00:48:44.09 Look at verse 10, read Psalm 37:10. 00:48:44.12\00:48:47.39 "For yet a little while 00:48:47.46\00:48:48.79 and the wicked shall be no more, 00:48:48.82\00:48:50.73 indeed, you will look carefully for his place, 00:48:50.76\00:48:53.43 but it shall be no more." 00:48:53.50\00:48:56.30 In fact, I'm thinking of another text also 00:48:56.33\00:48:58.37 exactly what they just said 00:48:58.40\00:48:59.73 that the wicked shall be no more. 00:48:59.77\00:49:01.17 I'm thinking of Obadiah 1:15-16, it says, 00:49:01.20\00:49:04.74 "For the day of the Lord is near upon all the heathen 00:49:04.77\00:49:07.38 and they shall be as though they had not been." 00:49:07.41\00:49:11.71 That's right. And so... 00:49:11.75\00:49:13.42 To perish, what does that mean? 00:49:13.45\00:49:14.78 I was also thinking of John 3:16. 00:49:14.82\00:49:16.92 The most beautiful passage. 00:49:16.99\00:49:18.89 Let's read it together. 00:49:18.92\00:49:20.26 "For God so loved the world 00:49:20.29\00:49:21.72 that He gave His only begotten Son, 00:49:21.76\00:49:23.73 that whoever believeth in Him should not perish 00:49:23.76\00:49:27.73 but have everlasting life." 00:49:27.76\00:49:29.73 So the wicked don't have everlasting life. 00:49:29.76\00:49:31.93 So the wicked, 00:49:31.97\00:49:33.34 if you don't have everlasting life, 00:49:33.37\00:49:34.94 you can't be burning everlasting. 00:49:34.97\00:49:36.57 Absolutely 00:49:36.60\00:49:37.94 There's no everlasting burning 00:49:37.97\00:49:39.31 to those who don't have everlasting life. 00:49:39.34\00:49:40.68 The righteous receive everlasting life. 00:49:40.71\00:49:42.81 What do the wicked? 00:49:42.84\00:49:44.18 They perish. Sure. 00:49:44.25\00:49:45.58 Into smoke shall they vanish away, 00:49:45.61\00:49:48.08 they shall perish, 00:49:48.12\00:49:49.45 they shall be as though they will be no more. 00:49:49.48\00:49:51.59 Psalm 37:10 and so another one, 00:49:51.62\00:49:54.59 Revelation 21:8. 00:49:54.62\00:49:56.19 I'll hit this very quickly. 00:49:56.22\00:49:57.56 "But the cowardly, unbelievable, abominable, 00:49:57.63\00:50:01.30 murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, 00:50:01.33\00:50:04.80 and all liars shall have their part in the lake 00:50:04.83\00:50:07.34 which burns with fire and brimstone, 00:50:07.37\00:50:09.27 which is the second death." 00:50:09.30\00:50:10.97 Right, absolutely. 00:50:11.01\00:50:12.34 That's that eternal death. 00:50:12.37\00:50:13.78 And in very simple passage, Romans 6:23, for the... 00:50:13.81\00:50:18.25 Wages of sin is death. 00:50:18.28\00:50:19.68 But... 00:50:19.71\00:50:21.05 But the gift of God 00:50:21.08\00:50:22.52 is eternal life in Christ Jesus, our Lord. 00:50:22.55\00:50:24.29 Okay, there are the two comparisons, 00:50:24.32\00:50:26.19 the wages of sin is death. 00:50:26.22\00:50:27.82 Right. 00:50:27.86\00:50:29.19 The gift of God is eternal life. 00:50:29.22\00:50:30.56 Amen. 00:50:30.63\00:50:31.96 The wicked don't receive eternal life, 00:50:31.99\00:50:33.33 they receive death. 00:50:33.36\00:50:34.70 And what's death... The second death. 00:50:34.73\00:50:36.97 The second death is being banished, 00:50:37.00\00:50:40.14 being destroyed in the lake of fire. 00:50:40.17\00:50:41.80 And you look for them and they'll be no more. 00:50:41.84\00:50:44.37 That's why Jesus said in the parable... 00:50:44.41\00:50:46.24 Matter of fact, in the Beatitudes, 00:50:46.27\00:50:47.61 the meek shall inherit the earth. 00:50:47.64\00:50:49.31 Right, absolutely. 00:50:49.34\00:50:50.68 You know, we have a couple of minutes here. 00:50:50.75\00:50:52.08 I know we're getting close to the end of this time. 00:50:52.11\00:50:53.45 But I just got to say this, 00:50:53.48\00:50:54.82 in pertaining to this particular topic. 00:50:54.85\00:50:57.02 This is one of those topics 00:50:57.09\00:50:58.42 that many people really struggle with, 00:50:58.45\00:51:01.62 because of what has been programmed into their mind 00:51:01.66\00:51:03.83 over the years. 00:51:03.86\00:51:05.19 They feel like there's a sense of vengeance, 00:51:05.23\00:51:06.80 there's a sense of justice, 00:51:06.83\00:51:08.50 in knowing that again, God, not the devil, 00:51:08.53\00:51:10.87 but God is now in charge of hell, 00:51:10.90\00:51:13.20 as the Bible does say, God, not the devil is in charge, 00:51:13.23\00:51:15.24 but God is in charge, but that God would, 00:51:15.27\00:51:17.64 you know, pour out all of His wrath 00:51:17.67\00:51:19.34 for all eternity upon these people. 00:51:19.37\00:51:22.08 And I find that to be inconsistent 00:51:22.11\00:51:24.98 with the fact that 1 John 4:8 says, God is love. 00:51:25.01\00:51:29.08 Thank you. And He is so loving. 00:51:29.12\00:51:31.22 I'll tell you this, this is the truth. 00:51:31.25\00:51:32.69 You know, we've already established 00:51:32.72\00:51:34.06 that the wicked will not burn forever 00:51:34.09\00:51:36.66 in the verses that we just read. 00:51:36.73\00:51:38.06 But really quickly, you know, 1 Peter, excuse me, 00:51:38.09\00:51:40.70 2 Peter 2:9 tells us this, 00:51:40.73\00:51:43.16 "The Lord knows how to deliver the godly 00:51:43.20\00:51:45.00 out of temptations." 00:51:45.03\00:51:46.74 "And to," notice, "reserve the unjust unto the," 00:51:46.77\00:51:50.91 notice this, 00:51:50.94\00:51:52.27 "the day of judgment to be punished." 00:51:52.31\00:51:54.94 That's right. 00:51:54.98\00:51:56.31 There's a single day at the end of time. 00:51:56.34\00:51:57.98 That's right. 00:51:58.01\00:51:59.35 And I just want to bring out the fact that God is love. 00:51:59.38\00:52:01.42 He will bring in into sin, 00:52:01.45\00:52:03.59 but He takes it and He does it in a single day, 00:52:03.62\00:52:06.22 not for all eternity. 00:52:06.25\00:52:07.59 And lastly and not leastly, 00:52:07.66\00:52:10.03 Satan himself will be devoured, 00:52:10.06\00:52:12.49 Ezekiel 28:18 and 19. 00:52:12.53\00:52:14.23 "The Lord will devour him by bringing a fire forth 00:52:14.30\00:52:17.70 from the midst of him, and he shall be," 00:52:17.73\00:52:20.04 the Bible says in Ezekiel 28:19, 00:52:20.07\00:52:23.41 "And shall be no more forever." 00:52:23.44\00:52:25.14 Amen. 00:52:25.17\00:52:26.51 If the devil is not gonna exist anymore, 00:52:26.54\00:52:28.11 why would those who were wicked exist 00:52:28.14\00:52:30.78 in eternal flames? 00:52:30.85\00:52:32.18 Friends, we try to make it clear. 00:52:32.21\00:52:33.55 We're gonna take a short break 00:52:33.58\00:52:35.35 and we'll be back after this news break 00:52:35.38\00:52:37.89 for a few closing thoughts, 00:52:37.92\00:52:40.16 so don't go away. 00:52:40.19\00:52:41.52
