I want to spend my life 00:00:01.60\00:00:06.80 Mending broken people 00:00:07.40\00:00:12.27 I want to spend my life 00:00:12.34\00:00:17.91 Removing pain 00:00:18.65\00:00:23.18 Lord, let my words 00:00:23.82\00:00:28.76 Heal a heart that hurts 00:00:30.03\00:00:33.96 I want to spend my life 00:00:34.46\00:00:39.37 Mending broken people 00:00:40.30\00:00:44.74 I want to spend my life 00:00:45.67\00:00:50.55 Mending broken people 00:00:51.28\00:00:56.05 - Hello and welcome to another 3ABN Today 00:01:11.13\00:01:13.34 program. We are so grateful that you have 00:01:13.44\00:01:15.84 joined us. You know why? You're part of our family. 00:01:15.97\00:01:18.97 We're family here at 3ABN, but you're family 00:01:19.07\00:01:22.31 there at home. Maybe you're listening on 3ABN 00:01:22.38\00:01:25.68 Radio as you're driving along...I'm not supposed 00:01:25.78\00:01:28.48 to have my phone here. Maybe you're actually 00:01:28.58\00:01:29.92 watching this or downloading it later on your phone from 00:01:29.98\00:01:32.32 the 3ABN app. We're just grateful for your support 00:01:32.39\00:01:35.29 of the ministry of 3ABN. I don't know how your 00:01:35.36\00:01:38.29 day's going, but here at 3ABN, it's been a 00:01:38.39\00:01:40.13 blessed day. Why is that? Because Jesus 00:01:40.20\00:01:43.10 is King. He's Lord of our lives; He's leading 00:01:43.16\00:01:45.37 out here in the ministry of 3ABN, and any day 00:01:45.43\00:01:48.20 with Jesus is a wonderful day. It doesn't mean that 00:01:48.27\00:01:51.14 we may have some troubles or some issues going on 00:01:51.21\00:01:53.34 now and then in our lives, but we know 00:01:53.41\00:01:55.71 that Jesus is with us through the storms of 00:01:55.78\00:01:57.48 life. So, again, we're just thankful for your 00:01:57.61\00:01:59.31 prayers and financial support for the ministry 00:01:59.35\00:02:02.25 of 3ABN. It's your ministry, as well. 00:02:02.28\00:02:05.45 And of course, we thank the Lord Jesus Christ for 00:02:05.55\00:02:06.92 supporting the ministry of 3ABN for over 30 years. 00:02:06.99\00:02:10.83 What a blessing. Today... Usually, my wife sits next 00:02:10.93\00:02:13.70 to me, but she wasn't able to make it, so I 00:02:13.80\00:02:16.40 have my neighbor, Jason Bradley. And the reason 00:02:16.50\00:02:19.53 I called my neighbor is that our offices 00:02:19.60\00:02:21.47 are not quite directly across from each other; 00:02:21.54\00:02:24.37 maybe a little diagonal. - Yeah. - So, if we sit 00:02:24.47\00:02:26.31 just right, I can sit at my desk and if he 00:02:26.41\00:02:28.48 sits at the one desk, we can wave at each 00:02:28.54\00:02:30.11 other through doorways and a hallway. So, Jason 00:02:30.15\00:02:33.28 Bradley, he's my neighbor, a great friend, loves the 00:02:33.35\00:02:37.42 Lord, and you are the general manager of the 00:02:37.52\00:02:40.36 Dare to Dream Network. You have a lot on your 00:02:40.42\00:02:42.39 plate (he wears many hats), but it's a blessing 00:02:42.46\00:02:45.89 to be in ministry together, isn't it? - Yes, it absolutely 00:02:45.93\00:02:48.66 is. And it's a blessing to have you as a neighbor. 00:02:48.76\00:02:50.90 [laughter] You are the meeting king, Greg. The 00:02:50.97\00:02:55.20 meeting king. - Well, we're doing a lot of 00:02:55.27\00:02:56.64 meetings, but the key is to get things done, right? 00:02:56.71\00:02:58.74 - That's right. - And accomplishing a lot by 00:02:58.81\00:03:01.38 God's grace. We have a great team here at 00:03:01.48\00:03:03.61 3ABN. And today, Jason, we have a wonderful 00:03:03.71\00:03:07.32 guest. He's no stranger to most of you that have 00:03:07.38\00:03:10.75 viewing 3ABN for many years. Who do we have 00:03:10.89\00:03:13.59 with us today? - Pastor Moise Ratsara-A.K.A. 00:03:13.66\00:03:17.09 the president of GYC. It's a blessing to have 00:03:17.19\00:03:21.83 you here. It's a privilege. - Glad to be here. - So, 00:03:21.93\00:03:25.03 we should just mention, actually, 'cause you 00:03:25.10\00:03:26.80 asked us just before as the open was playing 00:03:26.87\00:03:28.20 in the beginning, we should probably explain 00:03:28.24\00:03:29.90 what GYC is, 'cause you may be just joining in 00:03:30.01\00:03:32.27 for the first time, so GYC may be, "What is 00:03:32.34\00:03:34.51 that? Is that global something?" You know? 00:03:34.58\00:03:36.34 What is GYC? Many of you are like, "Oh, we 00:03:36.41\00:03:38.35 know what GYC is." So, Pastor Moise, just tell 00:03:38.41\00:03:40.98 us real quick what GYC is and then we'll go 00:03:41.05\00:03:42.48 from there. - Yeah. Well, GYC is a grassroots movement 00:03:42.55\00:03:45.65 of young Seventh-day Adventists and those 00:03:45.72\00:03:49.12 young at heart, as well, who love the Lord and 00:03:49.22\00:03:51.79 want to see Him come in their generation. 00:03:51.89\00:03:53.60 Our mission is very simple to inspire and 00:03:53.70\00:03:56.56 challenge young people to take sacrificial 00:03:56.63\00:03:59.23 initiative for Christ, because we truly 00:03:59.30\00:04:02.60 believe that He can come. And He wants 00:04:02.70\00:04:05.07 to come more than we want to see Him come! 00:04:05.14\00:04:06.78 So, that's our desire and we believe it can 00:04:06.84\00:04:10.91 happen through the power of the Holy Spirit. - Amen. 00:04:11.01\00:04:13.65 - I'm looking forward to getting into statistics a 00:04:13.72\00:04:16.58 little bit later and all of that. You know, 00:04:16.65\00:04:18.69 a lot of times, people say there's a lack of 00:04:18.75\00:04:21.32 men in the church. We got some guys here. 00:04:21.42\00:04:24.66 - That's right. - And there is a lack of youth 00:04:24.76\00:04:27.86 in the church, and we're talking to the president 00:04:27.96\00:04:30.50 of GYC. So, when we hear these statistics a little 00:04:30.60\00:04:35.44 later in the program, minds are going to be 00:04:35.50\00:04:37.67 blown. - That's right. GYC - Generation Youth 00:04:37.77\00:04:40.38 for Christ? - Yes. Generation, Youth, 00:04:40.44\00:04:43.98 Christ. That's our name; GYC for short. I just 00:04:44.08\00:04:50.05 want to do something a little bit special. I just 00:04:50.09\00:04:52.05 want to thank the viewers of 3ABN and for you guys 00:04:52.12\00:04:55.19 for giving us the support. Truly, I'm just so excited 00:04:55.26\00:04:57.96 I can spend this time with the both of you, 00:04:58.06\00:05:01.33 especially, Jason and Greg. - Amen. So, we're 00:05:01.43\00:05:04.23 going to get into, like you mentioned, some 00:05:04.30\00:05:05.63 statistics. We're going to give some updates 00:05:05.67\00:05:07.14 at what happened in Houston, Texas. A lot 00:05:07.20\00:05:10.11 of you see pictures and video of the buses 00:05:10.14\00:05:12.24 going out, dropping off the young people as they 00:05:12.31\00:05:14.58 knock on doors. Well, Pastor Moise has some 00:05:14.64\00:05:16.48 exciting statistics from what took place there 00:05:16.54\00:05:19.25 in Houston. We're going to talk about what GYC 00:05:19.35\00:05:21.12 is currently involved with, and then also 00:05:21.25\00:05:23.49 as they're preparing for Louisville, Kentucky 00:05:23.59\00:05:25.15 and GYC 2019/2020. - Yes. - Yeah. So, 00:05:25.29\00:05:30.66 that's coming up. Jason, I know you have a scripture 00:05:30.73\00:05:33.23 and then some music we want to go to. - Yes, yes. 00:05:33.33\00:05:35.76 And the scripture is taken from the book of Matthew, 00:05:35.86\00:05:39.23 the 28th chapter verses 19 and 20. "Go therefore 00:05:39.30\00:05:43.94 and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing 00:05:44.04\00:05:46.88 them in the name of the Father and of the Son 00:05:46.94\00:05:49.14 and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe 00:05:49.24\00:05:52.21 all things that I have commanded you. And 00:05:52.28\00:05:54.92 lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the 00:05:55.02\00:05:57.82 age. Amen." [Amen.] Yes. And now, we're 00:05:57.92\00:06:01.72 going to be blessed in song by Naomi Jackson, 00:06:01.82\00:06:05.73 and she's going to be singing "Then They 00:06:05.83\00:06:07.26 Will Know." - Amen. 00:06:07.36\00:06:09.53 I will speak I will wait 00:06:25.45\00:06:32.29 I will sent prophets among them 00:06:32.89\00:06:39.33 That they might hear That they might see 00:06:40.03\00:06:46.03 And understand how much I love them 00:06:46.74\00:06:53.44 And they will know that I am Father 00:06:54.01\00:07:00.08 Then they will know I am Lord 00:07:00.42\00:07:06.19 They'll walk with Me and be my people 00:07:06.72\00:07:13.19 I'll walk with them as their God 00:07:13.56\00:07:18.93 As their God 00:07:19.33\00:07:24.17 I will strike I will scourge 00:07:27.44\00:07:33.28 And carry out vengeance upon them 00:07:33.75\00:07:39.82 But I will yield the wounds I make 00:07:40.39\00:07:46.53 And tenderly take them back to Me 00:07:47.06\00:07:53.30 And they will know that I am Father 00:07:53.67\00:08:00.11 And they will know I am Lord 00:08:00.48\00:08:06.21 They'll walk with me and be my people 00:08:07.02\00:08:13.39 I'll walk with them as their God 00:08:13.72\00:08:19.13 This is heaven This is salvation 00:08:20.60\00:08:26.94 This is their great hope and Mine 00:08:27.14\00:08:33.38 He will come My own Son 00:08:48.86\00:08:55.50 A Word faithful hearts can't help hearing 00:08:56.26\00:09:02.57 And by His death With His last breath 00:09:02.97\00:09:08.68 A Father's forgiveness comes flowing 00:09:09.28\00:09:15.98 Then they will know That I am Savior 00:09:16.45\00:09:22.79 I am Redeemer and Friend 00:09:23.12\00:09:28.60 Immanuel, the God who is with them 00:09:29.26\00:09:35.97 The God who gives all He can 00:09:36.27\00:09:42.28 He is salvation He is the kingdom 00:09:42.68\00:09:49.38 To know Him is paradise 00:09:49.72\00:09:56.06 Then they will know that I am Father 00:09:56.36\00:10:03.00 They will know I am Lord 00:10:03.26\00:10:08.40 I am Lord 00:10:08.97\00:10:15.54 - Amen. Thank you, Naomi. "And Then They 00:10:25.32\00:10:27.42 Will Know." Powerful message in song. And I 00:10:27.52\00:10:30.86 tell you: music is definitely a part of worship, I think, 00:10:30.99\00:10:33.86 as we present ourselves as a living sacrifice or 00:10:34.03\00:10:38.33 as a vessel that God can pour through. We can 00:10:38.43\00:10:41.17 bless many people, and we appreciate Naomi 00:10:41.24\00:10:43.71 Jackson. And in case you've just joined us, 00:10:43.81\00:10:46.54 we're here with Pastor Moise Ratsara. You are 00:10:46.64\00:10:49.84 the GYC president. You wear many hats, and we 00:10:49.91\00:10:52.61 want to get a little bit more into the detail of 00:10:52.71\00:10:54.52 your life, your family, your church, etc. But GYC- 00:10:54.62\00:10:58.29 I know that Naomi, as she was singing this 00:10:58.42\00:11:01.26 song, you were explaining to us that she has also a 00:11:01.36\00:11:03.49 pretty big role at GYC. - Yeah! So, she actually 00:11:03.59\00:11:06.73 serves on our board. We praise the Lord, 00:11:06.80\00:11:11.17 because she's very mission-driven and 00:11:11.23\00:11:13.97 she loves the Lord. - She does. - So, she's 00:11:14.07\00:11:16.91 a great person to work with. So, that's Naomi, 00:11:16.97\00:11:22.48 and she's a blessing to us. - Mm, yes. - Now, 00:11:22.54\00:11:25.85 how long have YOU been involved with GYC? - Oh, 00:11:25.88\00:11:29.45 well... That's a very good question, Jason. 00:11:29.48\00:11:31.95 Well, I started being involved with GYC in 00:11:32.05\00:11:35.66 2010, so that's about 8 years... 9 years, now! 00:11:35.72\00:11:41.96 We're in 2019. - Wow. - That's right. - So, in 00:11:42.06\00:11:44.43 2010, I was a bus leader, and that started 00:11:44.50\00:11:49.40 my involvement with the movement. - Wow. - And 00:11:49.47\00:11:52.84 how long have you been president? - Well, I've 00:11:52.97\00:11:54.94 been president- now, I'm going on my fourth 00:11:55.04\00:11:56.75 year as GYC president. So, I've been for about 00:11:56.81\00:12:03.05 four years now; almost four years. - Okay. That's 00:12:03.12\00:12:06.39 a huge role to step into! - I agree. It really is. 00:12:06.45\00:12:09.82 - Now, I know that you've enjoyed your experience 00:12:09.89\00:12:12.46 leading GYC. I know it's probably humbling, but 00:12:12.53\00:12:16.10 at the same time, what an opportunity to impact 00:12:16.16\00:12:18.27 young people for eternity. - Yeah, definitely. It's a 00:12:18.37\00:12:22.94 very humbling experience, because really, the ultimate 00:12:23.00\00:12:28.11 goal I'll say of the president is to make 00:12:28.21\00:12:30.48 sure that Jesus is leading the movement. 00:12:30.58\00:12:32.31 - Amen. - And as a leader, I'm pretty 00:12:32.41\00:12:36.28 much a follower and I follow whatever Jesus 00:12:36.35\00:12:38.99 has counseled in the Word and in the Bible. 00:12:39.05\00:12:41.72 I just want to follow whatever 00:12:43.93\00:12:45.79 He calls us to do as Seventh-day Adventist 00:12:45.86\00:12:49.76 young people. It has been a privilege to 00:12:49.83\00:12:53.27 serve. We're all volunteers; I'm a volunteer, too! So, I 00:12:53.37\00:12:58.04 enjoy that. - Yes. - So for those at home, there's 00:12:58.11\00:13:01.38 probably some that know a little bit about you and 00:13:01.44\00:13:03.91 your personal life, but some of you are saying, 00:13:03.98\00:13:06.41 "Well, is he married? Does he have a family?" 00:13:06.51\00:13:08.18 You mentioned pastoring, so tell us a little bit about 00:13:08.28\00:13:10.49 your family. I know we have a picture, and then 00:13:10.55\00:13:12.75 the church is in your involvement in the 00:13:12.82\00:13:14.16 Michigan Conference. - Yes. So, I have a 00:13:14.19\00:13:17.19 beautiful family. - That's a great picture. [laughter] 00:13:17.29\00:13:19.39 - I have my wife, Amy. She actually works as 00:13:19.49\00:13:24.53 an attorney, and we met through GYC, which is a 00:13:24.63\00:13:28.00 story for a later time. 00:13:28.10\00:13:33.44 And I have a little boy. I call him my little man. 00:13:34.18\00:13:36.44 His name- we just call him Kai. He's a lovely 00:13:37.51\00:13:41.98 little man and loves the Lord. He has two 00:13:42.08\00:13:45.82 favorite words. One of them is mas, which means 00:13:45.92\00:13:49.92 'more' in Spanish, and the other one is Bible. 00:13:49.99\00:13:52.86 - Bible? - So he says, "Bible, Bible, Bible," 00:13:52.96\00:13:55.86 and he's already learning to do his devotions even 00:13:55.96\00:13:59.13 though he can't read. So, we're... - Tell us 00:13:59.23\00:14:01.77 about that, 'cause, I mean, that's amazing. 00:14:01.87\00:14:03.97 - Yeah; so, every morning, he wakes up and he wants 00:14:04.07\00:14:07.34 the Bible, so he says, "Bible, Bible, Bible, Bible!" 00:14:07.44\00:14:09.71 And then we read to him. He acts as if he 00:14:09.81\00:14:13.85 reads, as well, which is very interesting- 00:14:13.95\00:14:15.98 but that is his favorite thing to do every morning. 00:14:16.08\00:14:19.52 - Wow. - Train up a child. - Yep. I was 00:14:19.62\00:14:23.73 just thinking that. - Really? Yeah, that's 00:14:23.83\00:14:26.06 incredible. - So, that's Kai. I also serve as 00:14:26.13\00:14:28.93 a pastor. I pastor one church, and we have 00:14:29.00\00:14:34.50 a company as well-a Filipino company-and 00:14:34.60\00:14:37.84 I serve, as well, as what they call as pastors in 00:14:37.91\00:14:42.61 the Michigan conference, as a district superintendent, 00:14:42.71\00:14:45.45 and it's basically you're there to help the pastors 00:14:45.58\00:14:47.98 in a certain district in the Michigan conference 00:14:48.12\00:14:50.95 with anything they might want counsel or help. So, 00:14:51.05\00:14:55.69 that's what I do, as well. I've been serving, 00:14:55.79\00:14:58.56 now, as a pastor for the last seven years. - Wow. 00:14:58.66\00:15:02.23 Now, were you always Adventist? Like, did you 00:15:03.00\00:15:05.87 grow up Adventist? How does... - Yes. Well, I grew 00:15:05.93\00:15:09.27 up Adventist. My parents were missionaries; my dad 00:15:09.37\00:15:13.14 was a very serious mission-minded person, 00:15:13.21\00:15:17.61 my mother was a godly woman, and we traveled 00:15:17.68\00:15:19.95 throughout the world. We actually survived 00:15:20.02\00:15:22.72 about three wars, going- living as missionaries; 00:15:22.82\00:15:26.89 lived in almost 11 countries. And through 00:15:26.96\00:15:29.72 all those experiences, I saw God move in a 00:15:29.82\00:15:32.79 mighty way. But when I went to college my 00:15:32.93\00:15:36.26 freshman year, I had some very deep questions 00:15:36.36\00:15:39.17 about God. To make a long story short, I 00:15:39.30\00:15:42.94 almost became an agnostic because of the questions 00:15:43.04\00:15:47.64 I had; I could not get clear answers to the 00:15:47.74\00:15:51.08 questions I was longing to get answers to... But 00:15:51.18\00:15:56.89 GYC changed my life. In 2010, they came to 00:15:56.95\00:16:03.02 Southern, and there was a preacher there. He 00:16:03.12\00:16:06.46 challenged me. He told me I didn't know the 00:16:06.56\00:16:07.90 Bible. And I said, "You don't know my life! 00:16:08.00\00:16:09.96 I've been a missionary kid most of my life!" - I 00:16:10.03\00:16:11.83 know the Bible! - Yeah, I know the Bible! But he 00:16:11.93\00:16:14.67 says, "No, you don't know the Bible!" And 00:16:14.74\00:16:16.71 he started sharing stories and things, and that really 00:16:16.81\00:16:19.74 challenged me. I guess the word was, I was 00:16:19.84\00:16:23.21 furious! - Wow. - He was preaching from 00:16:23.28\00:16:26.05 the front; he wasn't even talking to me, 00:16:26.11\00:16:27.78 but I took it as if the Holy Spirit was talking 00:16:28.55\00:16:30.62 to me and convicting me. So, I had a conversion 00:16:30.72\00:16:35.46 moment in college. - Wow. - Yeah. - And really, that 00:16:35.56\00:16:41.63 would be through GYC. - Yes! It was through 00:16:41.73\00:16:44.80 GYC, and that's why I'm involved with the movement, 00:16:44.90\00:16:47.40 'cause it changed my life in a very real way. 00:16:47.47\00:16:52.17 - You think about that, Jason. Isn't that amazing? 00:16:52.27\00:16:53.94 I mean, it changes life. I really- as far as your 00:16:54.04\00:16:56.75 relationship with Jesus Christ. He found his wife 00:16:56.88\00:16:59.75 at GYC...and it's just interesting how God 00:16:59.85\00:17:04.12 works, isn't it? You probably had no idea, 00:17:04.22\00:17:06.05 'cause you said you were a bus leader, which is the 00:17:06.15\00:17:08.39 outreach buses, way back in the day when 00:17:08.49\00:17:11.29 you were involved with GYC in that level. You 00:17:11.39\00:17:14.53 probably had no idea that you'd become 00:17:14.60\00:17:15.93 president of GYC and leading this youth 00:17:15.96\00:17:18.53 movement. It's neat what God does. - Yeah! 00:17:18.63\00:17:21.24 As a matter of fact, I remember when they were 00:17:21.30\00:17:23.67 choosing the president. They do in a very prayerful 00:17:23.77\00:17:25.97 manner, very serious way, and they were going to 00:17:26.07\00:17:29.74 choose a president on Saturday night. And on 00:17:29.78\00:17:33.18 that Friday, I almost told them, "Guys, you 00:17:33.25\00:17:35.62 know I- this is overwhelming. I don't know if I would like 00:17:35.72\00:17:40.62 to be the president of this movement, because 00:17:40.69\00:17:43.22 GYC's serious!" You know? It's committed young people 00:17:43.32\00:17:46.86 who really want to see the Lord come, and I 00:17:46.96\00:17:49.33 wanted to make sure I led because God wanted 00:17:49.46\00:17:52.03 me to lead. So, He made it very clear, and I accepted 00:17:52.13\00:17:57.27 the challenge with His help. - Wow. Amen. 00:17:57.37\00:17:59.67 - There's a lot of logistics involved. 00:17:59.74\00:18:01.24 I mean, you have thousands of people that go to GYC. 00:18:01.34\00:18:06.45 What are some of the challenges that you face 00:18:06.55\00:18:08.65 as a president? - Well, Jason, I'll say the biggest 00:18:08.72\00:18:12.92 one. The biggest challenge is staying focused on what 00:18:12.99\00:18:18.19 matters most to God, because when you have 00:18:18.29\00:18:22.40 a movement like GYC, you have a lot of moving 00:18:22.46\00:18:24.80 pieces. You have a lot of logistics, a lot of 00:18:24.87\00:18:27.50 different ideas and all of those different 00:18:27.57\00:18:30.74 things. But to just keep focused on what God is 00:18:30.84\00:18:33.64 calling us to do, preaching the three angels' message, 00:18:33.71\00:18:35.94 challenging young people, empowering them to do 00:18:36.04\00:18:39.61 service, calling them to the Bible to live according 00:18:39.71\00:18:44.02 to it, thus saith the Lord. - Mhm. - That's 00:18:44.09\00:18:46.55 a radical call. So, that's the biggest 00:18:46.65\00:18:49.72 challenge- being focused and making sure that we're 00:18:49.79\00:18:52.13 focused on the Word of God. Another one: 00:18:52.23\00:18:54.33 obviously, you deal with people; learning how to 00:18:54.93\00:19:00.67 work with people. I'm learning, you know, 00:19:00.74\00:19:04.34 how to work with people, how to best address certain 00:19:04.41\00:19:09.41 issues that might be arising at different times, and 00:19:09.51\00:19:13.05 really learning. I think my biggest thing, my 00:19:13.11\00:19:16.38 biggest challenge, is learning to be a learner. 00:19:16.48\00:19:18.75 [laughter] And to listen. - Well, that's? 00:19:18.85\00:19:21.36 - And to do what the Lord is calling us to 00:19:21.42\00:19:23.79 do and listen to the young people and 00:19:23.86\00:19:26.03 where they feel that God is leading them to. 00:19:26.13\00:19:28.93 Those are the challenges- maintaining that balance. 00:19:29.03\00:19:31.27 - Mhm. Yeah, we should- we're going to 00:19:31.33\00:19:33.70 talk about some updates here pertaining to Houston. 00:19:33.77\00:19:35.84 Hopefully, you're able to tune into GYC via 3ABN. 00:19:35.94\00:19:40.51 It's been, yeah, the beginning of this year. 00:19:40.61\00:19:42.91 I know from 3ABN's perspective, we are 00:19:42.98\00:19:45.65 so blessed to have had the opportunity, continue 00:19:45.75\00:19:48.22 to have the opportunity, to air GYC programming. 00:19:48.28\00:19:52.62 We appreciate the partnership of working 00:19:52.69\00:19:54.32 with GYC. We've been working well with you 00:19:54.42\00:19:56.06 and the previous presidents, as well, and GYC as an 00:19:56.12\00:19:58.89 organization. It's a win-win is how we see it. We're 00:19:58.96\00:20:02.20 able to basically air GYC. We're blessed with 00:20:02.26\00:20:05.73 some wonderful programming, as well. When we were going 00:20:05.83\00:20:09.47 to Houston, our truck crew-you know, it's 00:20:09.54\00:20:11.31 usually around the Christmas break- 00:20:11.37\00:20:12.71 so, we headed down to Houston, Texas. It's 00:20:12.74\00:20:15.91 just interesting, 'cause you can see the battle 00:20:16.01\00:20:17.61 between Christ and Satan. That's a real 00:20:17.65\00:20:19.41 battle- the spiritual warfare. We thought 00:20:19.48\00:20:22.45 our truck was in tiptop shape. It's driving down 00:20:22.55\00:20:25.15 the interstate, and there's massive air 00:20:25.25\00:20:26.79 conditioning units that cool the truck when 00:20:26.86\00:20:29.09 we're in operation to cool the equipment, the 00:20:29.12\00:20:30.96 people inside... And one of those big air conditioning 00:20:31.03\00:20:33.86 units- we have a picture as you can see now. That 00:20:33.93\00:20:36.20 AC unit fell face forward right- I mean, it was a 00:20:36.26\00:20:39.33 perfect spot for the AC unit to fall. It didn't 00:20:39.40\00:20:42.27 fall off on the interstate. We didn't know it had 00:20:42.37\00:20:44.67 fallen off, Jason, until we were at a rest stop 00:20:44.77\00:20:46.61 and the truck driver said, "Wow! Look at 00:20:46.68\00:20:48.34 this big thing right here!" It had fallen 00:20:48.41\00:20:49.98 off but it fell perfectly. So, it didn't cause an 00:20:50.05\00:20:52.21 accident, we were able to salvage the unit. So, 00:20:52.31\00:20:55.28 God kept us safe, we're able to arrive at GYC, 00:20:55.38\00:20:57.45 no problem at all in operation. Then once 00:20:57.55\00:21:02.49 GYC starts, boy, a lot of things happen. - Yes. 00:21:02.59\00:21:04.96 And you know, God's hand of protection... 00:21:05.09\00:21:08.03 That's huge. 'Cause when that thing fell off, I mean, 00:21:08.13\00:21:11.23 that could've gone through somebody's windshield... 00:21:11.33\00:21:12.83 - Yeah, could've fallen on the interstate. - Yeah! 00:21:12.93\00:21:14.40 It could have been horrible. - Yeah. No, you're absolutely 00:21:14.50\00:21:16.81 right. And I know we do all the setup. And 00:21:16.87\00:21:19.57 this year's theme, pastor, was To the End? - Yes. 00:21:19.67\00:21:23.51 It was To the End. And the reason why we 00:21:23.58\00:21:26.55 selected To the End is because the key to 00:21:26.61\00:21:30.79 finishing the work is the Holy Spirit. And in 00:21:30.85\00:21:33.59 Acts 1:8, it says, "You shall receive power." 00:21:33.62\00:21:36.62 We wanted to access that power through prayer. We 00:21:38.36\00:21:41.53 actually had a thousand- this is an official count- 00:21:41.63\00:21:44.57 about 1,011 people at the prayer room. So, 00:21:44.67\00:21:49.90 we pray every morning at GYC, early in the morning- 00:21:50.01\00:21:52.74 - Wow, look at that picture. That picture 00:21:52.84\00:21:54.18 is amazing! - Yeah! So, that's about more than 00:21:54.21\00:21:58.21 a thousand young people gathering to pray, and 00:21:58.31\00:22:02.18 early in the morning. - What time? - I was 00:22:02.32\00:22:04.19 just going to... - Yeah! [laughter] - So, some of 00:22:04.29\00:22:06.39 them, the room is almost full at 5:45 in the morning. 00:22:06.49\00:22:10.46 - 5:45 in the morning! - Yes. A.M, not P.M. 00:22:10.59\00:22:14.66 - A thousand! - Yes. So, at 6, you can have 00:22:14.73\00:22:19.77 pretty much about 600-700 young people there. And 00:22:19.90\00:22:24.27 by the time it hits about 6:15, there's no way 00:22:24.34\00:22:28.51 you'll find a spot. - Why so many young 00:22:28.58\00:22:31.25 people in the prayer room at 5 something 00:22:31.31\00:22:33.52 in the morning? - Well, really, I think it's people 00:22:33.62\00:22:37.82 are desperate. - Mhm. - Young people are 00:22:37.92\00:22:40.92 desperate to come together as a community 00:22:40.99\00:22:46.13 and seek the Lord together. You know, you could pray 00:22:46.23\00:22:49.66 in your room (which is very important-you 00:22:49.73\00:22:51.47 should have your prayer closet), but when you 00:22:51.57\00:22:53.44 see all these young people who are searching 00:22:53.50\00:22:55.47 for the same thing you're searching for, and that 00:22:55.57\00:22:57.67 is to be baptized by the Holy Spirit to be 00:22:57.74\00:23:00.78 led by His life, that energizes. I mean, 00:23:00.88\00:23:03.95 I try to go there every morning, and I would say 00:23:04.05\00:23:10.35 it's the closest thing to heaven that I have 00:23:10.45\00:23:12.22 experienced. People from, we have almost, all 00:23:12.25\00:23:17.63 continents at GYC except for Antarctica. [laughter] 00:23:17.69\00:23:21.60 And they're praying there- and some in 00:23:21.70\00:23:24.27 different languages. They're praying for 00:23:24.33\00:23:27.20 the same thing, and that is the Holy Spirit. 00:23:27.27\00:23:29.97 The Holy Spirit. We want that power. 00:23:30.04\00:23:32.57 We're willing to surrender. So, that's what young 00:23:32.67\00:23:35.84 people are looking for. They want a challenge, 00:23:35.91\00:23:37.91 they want an experience that is real. - I was just 00:23:37.98\00:23:42.65 going to say, Jan Castor... Is that how you say his 00:23:42.72\00:23:45.22 last name? - Yes! Yes. He's a gem. - Yes, 00:23:45.32\00:23:47.99 he is! And he gets you excited about prayer! 00:23:48.09\00:23:51.83 I mean, he is so passionate about prayer, and he's just 00:23:51.89\00:23:55.46 a great guy. - Yeah. I mean, he loves the 00:23:55.56\00:23:58.87 Lord. Jan is an integral part of the prayer room, 00:23:58.93\00:24:04.07 but there are other people, as well. It's 00:24:04.14\00:24:06.27 just a whole movement, I guess, that it's so 00:24:06.37\00:24:09.88 important to us. That's one of the visions I had, 00:24:09.98\00:24:12.38 and I believe it's from the Lord that we want 00:24:12.45\00:24:15.52 to experience Bible-based revival at GYC. - Amen. 00:24:15.58\00:24:19.02 - We just don't want it to be an event where 00:24:19.09\00:24:20.86 when people leave this, say, "Well, that was a 00:24:20.96\00:24:22.66 good event." We want them to come out of 00:24:22.72\00:24:24.56 there saying, "I don't think my life will ever 00:24:24.63\00:24:27.66 be the same again." - Yeah. Yeah. - "I have to change." 00:24:27.76\00:24:31.33 - You know, I think what's beautiful, 00:24:31.40\00:24:32.73 too, is that I see GYC as like the stone being 00:24:32.77\00:24:35.50 thrown into a lake, and that ripple begins 00:24:35.57\00:24:38.87 to grow because I can see this prayer room, you've got people, 00:24:38.94\00:24:41.14 you mentioned, from all parts of the world: from 00:24:41.24\00:24:43.81 the United States, North America, and they're going 00:24:43.88\00:24:46.21 to go back and hopefully start their prayer group 00:24:46.28\00:24:48.72 in their own church, university, and then 00:24:48.78\00:24:53.42 that ripple grows and grows and grows. 00:24:53.52\00:24:56.02 - Definitely. I mean, one of our biggest 00:24:56.09\00:24:57.79 passions is the local church. Everything 00:24:57.89\00:25:01.23 must exist in the church for the local church. So, 00:25:01.26\00:25:05.67 I met young people there at GYC who said, "You 00:25:05.73\00:25:09.80 know, we started doing this prayer thing at our 00:25:09.87\00:25:12.44 church," and I mean, God works, you know? 00:25:12.54\00:25:15.18 No man is bigger than his prayer life, and no 00:25:15.28\00:25:18.21 church is bigger than their prayer time. 00:25:18.28\00:25:20.72 At prayer meeting, that's the time to pray, and 00:25:20.78\00:25:24.75 wherever, or Sunday morning, you know, 00:25:24.85\00:25:28.49 they gather together. But on Sabbath, it should 00:25:28.59\00:25:31.83 be the culmination on Saturday of all of those 00:25:31.93\00:25:34.90 prayers. That's why the Lord says, "My house 00:25:34.96\00:25:38.03 shall be called a house of prayer." 00:25:38.10\00:25:40.54 Never said, "My house shall be a social club," 00:25:40.60\00:25:42.94 it never said, "My house shall be a 00:25:43.04\00:25:45.27 place where we do activities"; it says, 00:25:45.31\00:25:49.38 "My house shall be called the house of 00:25:49.44\00:25:50.85 prayer." Young people catch that vision and 00:25:50.91\00:25:54.72 they go to their local church, and God is 00:25:54.82\00:25:57.52 doing mighty things! - Yeah. - You know, 00:25:57.59\00:26:00.09 one of the things that I really love about GYC 00:26:00.16\00:26:02.32 is the fact that, you know, whatever city 00:26:02.42\00:26:04.89 that GYC is in, it's never left the same 00:26:04.99\00:26:09.13 because of the outreach initiative and the prayers 00:26:09.23\00:26:12.83 that are going up there and around the world 00:26:12.93\00:26:16.10 for GYC. - Yes. Well, you know, we've made 00:26:16.17\00:26:21.31 a commitment-especially this year-that whatever 00:26:21.38\00:26:24.81 city we go to, when we give Bible studies, this 00:26:24.91\00:26:28.98 year in Houston, we did something we've never 00:26:29.08\00:26:31.05 done before. We went out to the refugees, because 00:26:31.12\00:26:34.26 in Houston, in every... So let's see. You have 00:26:34.32\00:26:39.86 two houses. The other house- one house will 00:26:39.93\00:26:42.90 speak a different language at supper 00:26:43.00\00:26:44.63 time in the city of Houston. That's how 00:26:44.73\00:26:47.00 diverse it is. So we said, they have a lot 00:26:47.07\00:26:49.74 of refugees there, people from all over 00:26:49.80\00:26:52.27 the world, where the gospel might not be 00:26:52.34\00:26:55.14 able to go to in an official way or whatever 00:26:55.21\00:26:58.75 way you want to put it- but they're present there 00:26:58.81\00:27:00.72 in the thousands. So, we went to them; we actually 00:27:00.82\00:27:03.28 reached out to more than 600 refugee people 00:27:03.39\00:27:08.92 who signed up for Bible studies. We had 60 00:27:08.99\00:27:12.29 missionaries who stayed behind after GYC to follow 00:27:12.39\00:27:15.60 up on each Bible study by those refugees. - You 00:27:15.63\00:27:18.80 know, that is downright exciting. Say those 00:27:18.87\00:27:20.94 numbers one more time. So you said 600 people 00:27:21.00\00:27:23.30 signed up? - For Bible studies in Houston. 00:27:23.41\00:27:26.27 - That's not just someone knocking on the door, 00:27:26.37\00:27:28.01 leaving a Bible study card - this is someone 00:27:28.04\00:27:30.11 filling out the information and saying, "I want a Bible 00:27:30.21\00:27:33.11 study." - And we're very clear and they took 00:27:33.21\00:27:35.18 already two Bible study sets, 'cause we had 00:27:35.28\00:27:37.72 two sets at the door. They said, "Yes, we're 00:27:37.82\00:27:40.56 going to do this," and each and every one of 00:27:40.62\00:27:42.92 them, with the help of the local church 00:27:43.02\00:27:44.56 and the Texas conference- we followed up with each 00:27:44.66\00:27:48.66 one of them right after GYC was done...but that's 00:27:48.76\00:27:52.50 not it yet! [laughter] - I like that. He said... 00:27:52.60\00:27:55.94 [excited chatter] - Yes, more! Not only do we 00:27:56.00\00:27:59.11 do outreach for the city, but GYC young people 00:27:59.17\00:28:02.84 participants were in involved in Houston 00:28:02.94\00:28:06.58 throughout the year in 842 baptisms. 00:28:06.65\00:28:11.35 - Wow. - Oh, wow! - 842 baptisms - the people 00:28:11.42\00:28:18.79 that decided, "We're going to get baptized!" 00:28:18.89\00:28:21.03 In the last three years, they have received more 00:28:21.13\00:28:25.53 than 3,168 Bible studies. - Wow! - That the young 00:28:25.60\00:28:30.14 people, taking initiative. - So this is not just 00:28:30.27\00:28:33.24 Houston; this would be the other cities prior? 00:28:33.31\00:28:35.84 - Yeah, this is Houston, Phoenix- young people, 00:28:35.98\00:28:41.18 seeing about- yeah! 800+ baptisms through their 00:28:41.25\00:28:48.12 personal efforts for the Lord. - That's- 00:28:48.22\00:28:50.73 praise the Lord. I'm just going to say, 00:28:50.83\00:28:52.43 that's to you at home, as well, because you're 00:28:52.53\00:28:54.93 also donating to 3ABN- it's your ministry, it's 00:28:55.00\00:28:58.63 the Lord's ministry- we're able to broadcast 00:28:58.73\00:29:01.37 such events as GYC. I know many of you support 00:29:01.47\00:29:04.37 GYC financially. We're going to put up some 00:29:04.47\00:29:06.47 contact information on how you can support in 00:29:06.57\00:29:09.21 many different ways, give you some exciting- 00:29:09.31\00:29:10.81 there's some more information to come, as well-but we 00:29:10.88\00:29:13.62 just want to say thank you. Jason, as we think 00:29:13.68\00:29:15.75 about the people at home, even all of us 00:29:15.82\00:29:18.45 together, we're God's family. - Amen. - And 00:29:18.55\00:29:20.52 we're here to work together, making a 00:29:20.62\00:29:22.09 difference in the world. You think about that. 00:29:22.19\00:29:23.93 Over 800 baptisms! Well, those people now are 00:29:24.03\00:29:26.09 participating in their church! - Yes. - And 00:29:26.16\00:29:29.30 those people, hopefully, are spreading the gospel 00:29:29.36\00:29:31.30 and making even more of an impact. It's just neat 00:29:31.37\00:29:34.84 how it grows and grows. - Amen. - Go ahead; you 00:29:34.97\00:29:37.57 had something else. - Yeah. Well, you know, they could 00:29:37.64\00:29:39.41 see all the stats of what young people 00:29:39.47\00:29:40.88 are doing. They go to GYCweb.org beyond. 00:29:40.98\00:29:46.08 So, you could go there, you could see all the 00:29:46.18\00:29:49.88 stats of what young people have been doing, 00:29:49.98\00:29:53.12 because these are just some of the highlights- 00:29:53.19\00:29:56.49 but young people have been very busy over the 00:29:56.59\00:30:00.53 last three or so years and over the existence 00:30:00.63\00:30:04.20 of GYC, which now has been about 17 years. 00:30:04.27\00:30:07.94 - Wow, 17 years! - Yes. - It's getting kind of older! 00:30:08.04\00:30:11.74 - Yea- [laughter] - You know, we officially- 00:30:11.81\00:30:14.91 most of our participants that come to GYC are about 00:30:14.98\00:30:21.42 18 to 21 or so. That's most of our participants. 00:30:21.52\00:30:25.55 So, that's generation- I believe-generation Z! 00:30:25.65\00:30:30.73 - Okay. - Which is a whole generation 00:30:30.83\00:30:33.40 apart from millennials. I'm a millennial, so we 00:30:33.50\00:30:36.93 have a new generation that's coming up. - They 00:30:37.03\00:30:40.64 were basically born, 'cause if GYC is 17 00:30:40.74\00:30:42.80 years old, some of them that were born are now 00:30:42.87\00:30:44.67 attending as 17-year-olds. - Good point, yeah! [laughter] 00:30:44.74\00:30:47.84 - So, GYC not only is- we talked about the 00:30:47.94\00:30:51.68 prayer room, which is just powerful-then... 00:30:51.75\00:30:54.32 I mean, you've been in GYC a number of times. 00:30:54.42\00:30:57.09 But it's amazing, because they go from that, GYC 00:30:57.19\00:30:59.52 Houston, the prayer room, then they go to 00:30:59.62\00:31:02.96 the devotional (and the kids are all fired up, 00:31:03.06\00:31:05.33 coming to the devotional in the morning which 00:31:05.43\00:31:07.00 starts at 7 AM). Then after that was breakfast. 00:31:07.10\00:31:09.63 And then, something else that I think is 00:31:09.73\00:31:11.40 really powerful at GYC is all the seminars. 00:31:11.47\00:31:13.60 - Yes. - That's something that's just incredible. 00:31:13.67\00:31:15.84 Maybe describe a little bit to the people at home 00:31:15.94\00:31:18.67 that can't make it to GYC why that's an 00:31:18.74\00:31:20.38 important part of GYC. - So, as I mentioned, 00:31:20.48\00:31:23.81 you know, we're serious about the Bible. - That's 00:31:23.91\00:31:25.91 right. - So, we want to address topics that are very relevant 00:31:25.95\00:31:28.75 to young people. That affects them directly. 00:31:28.88\00:31:31.15 So, those are the seminars, what they're 00:31:31.82\00:31:33.96 intended for. They're intended to be very 00:31:34.02\00:31:35.66 practical and challenge them. So, we talk about 00:31:35.72\00:31:39.13 relationships. We talk about struggles. We 00:31:39.19\00:31:42.70 talk about doctrine. We talk about creation, 00:31:42.76\00:31:46.37 evolution; we talk about things that they're dealing 00:31:46.47\00:31:49.80 with on a regular basis. Those are the 00:31:49.90\00:31:54.81 seminars. So, we gather together that we have 00:31:54.88\00:31:57.11 different seminars ranging from all those topics I 00:31:57.21\00:32:00.62 mentioned, from relationships to heavy doctrinal studies. 00:32:00.72\00:32:07.06 For example, you might say, yeah, we talk a 00:32:07.72\00:32:11.53 lot about a lot of different things. So, 00:32:11.63\00:32:13.93 you could check all of those out, as well, on our website. 00:32:14.00\00:32:17.63 But the experience of being in the seminars 00:32:17.73\00:32:21.54 room is like nothing else, because you can engage 00:32:21.60\00:32:24.77 with the speakers, you could get tools to help 00:32:24.87\00:32:29.21 you in your own personal experience right there, 00:32:29.31\00:32:32.65 and friends who are going through that same experience. 00:32:32.71\00:32:35.38 So, those are the seminars that we have. 00:32:35.48\00:32:37.59 Yeah. - Yeah. That's great. I mean, it's just 00:32:37.69\00:32:40.66 so much going on at GYC. - Oh, incredible. It's a 00:32:40.72\00:32:44.49 busy schedule. - Yes. If you go there and you 00:32:44.56\00:32:47.10 do not grow spiritually, it's 'cause you don't 00:32:47.20\00:32:50.30 want to-'cause I know what it's like! [laughter] 00:32:50.37\00:32:52.60 - And you know, the amazing thing, we have something 00:32:52.67\00:32:55.57 else we're passionate about, as well: our 00:32:55.64\00:32:57.51 university-campus ministries. We have 00:32:57.57\00:33:00.68 campus ministry students that come from all the 00:33:00.74\00:33:03.85 secular campus universities around the United States, 00:33:03.95\00:33:07.65 some of them not Adventist. And a big majority of them 00:33:07.72\00:33:10.79 that come get baptized right after GYC. - Wow. 00:33:10.85\00:33:14.69 - Yes. We have, for example, the campus 00:33:14.76\00:33:17.63 groups in Michigan. They bring young people that their 00:33:17.73\00:33:22.63 missionaries have been studying with throughout 00:33:22.70\00:33:25.23 the year, they bring them to GYC, and most 00:33:25.30\00:33:27.97 of them at GYC make a decision to get baptized. 00:33:28.04\00:33:31.31 - Incredible. - Yeah. So... - That's great. 00:33:31.37\00:33:34.91 - Yeah. You might have been an Adventist for 00:33:34.98\00:33:36.54 a while or a non- Adventist, but I 00:33:36.61\00:33:39.68 believe, by God's grace, God is going to move you. 00:33:39.78\00:33:41.85 [Amen.] - You know, another thing I like, 00:33:41.95\00:33:44.49 too, is the fact that- you know, the follow-up. 00:33:44.59\00:33:47.12 You mentioned the follow-up on outreach. 00:33:47.22\00:33:48.96 I mean, that's crucial. Like, you can't just 00:33:49.06\00:33:51.13 say, "Here, here's a study," and not follow 00:33:52.29\00:33:55.36 up with them. So, I love how you guys 00:33:55.46\00:33:57.20 get the local churches involved with the 00:33:57.30\00:34:00.17 follow-up. - Yeah, that's so important. I mean, you 00:34:00.27\00:34:02.90 add that wonderful verse in Matthew chapter 28, 00:34:03.00\00:34:06.68 "The Great Commission." You know, it's called, 00:34:06.74\00:34:08.78 "The Great Commission," not "The Great Option..." 00:34:08.88\00:34:10.88 [laughter]...for a reason! So, when we go to the city, 00:34:10.98\00:34:16.18 we can't just say, "Well, we're just going to go to 00:34:16.28\00:34:18.65 a city, do our event..." No. We have to follow 00:34:18.72\00:34:21.92 with the Great Commission, go to all the world, and 00:34:22.06\00:34:24.99 teach them, you know, why having God in their 00:34:25.09\00:34:29.63 life is important. We want to hold ourselves 00:34:29.70\00:34:32.67 accountable, and we work with the local 00:34:32.73\00:34:34.57 church, the union- everybody that is 00:34:34.64\00:34:37.84 wanting to help to reach that city we work with. 00:34:37.91\00:34:42.04 And that's very important to us. 00:34:42.11\00:34:44.71 - So, Pastor, who all can attend GYC? 'Cause 00:34:44.78\00:34:48.18 someone at home might be saying, "Okay, for 00:34:48.25\00:34:49.58 one thing, I don't know that my age quite fits 00:34:49.62\00:34:51.65 in that bracket," or someone may be saying, 00:34:51.79\00:34:53.72 "Ah, you know, my relationship with Christ 00:34:53.79\00:34:56.16 is not really where it should be; I'm not really 00:34:56.26\00:34:58.33 into the prayer room... I don't know. I don't 00:34:58.39\00:35:00.20 think I want to attend." Give a little bit of a... 00:35:00.30\00:35:02.70 I don't want to say a pep talk, but just explain 00:35:04.13\00:35:06.67 that it's open to anybody to attend; I know that. 00:35:06.77\00:35:09.14 - It definitely is. If GYC can be attended 00:35:09.20\00:35:15.64 by someone who... It can be anybody who 00:35:15.74\00:35:19.28 really wants to have an encounter with God. - So 00:35:19.38\00:35:22.18 even right now, if they're like, "Ah, 00:35:22.25\00:35:23.59 I don't think I'm right there," but still... - Oh, 00:35:23.62\00:35:25.62 yes! That's the best! I was like that when 00:35:25.69\00:35:27.86 I attended at GYC. I mean, when they came 00:35:27.96\00:35:30.76 to my university there in Tennessee, I mean, 00:35:30.83\00:35:36.46 I was...you know? I was studying religion, and 00:35:36.56\00:35:42.70 I had deep questions. I wasn't a committed 00:35:42.80\00:35:45.97 Seventh-day Adventist... I was definitely not a 00:35:46.11\00:35:50.31 committed Seventh-day Adventist, but I had a 00:35:50.38\00:35:53.78 desire inside of me to find the truth. I wanted 00:35:53.85\00:35:56.89 an encounter with God. So if that is you, come 00:35:56.95\00:36:01.96 to GYC, because GYC is young people and 00:36:02.06\00:36:06.53 young at heart! You know, our oldest participant, I 00:36:06.59\00:36:10.23 believe, was about 93 years old. - Wow! 00:36:10.33\00:36:14.04 - She was attending with her daughter and 00:36:14.14\00:36:16.71 her granddaughter at GYC. - That's like three generations. 00:36:16.81\00:36:19.54 - And she was involved. She attended all the 00:36:19.64\00:36:22.84 plenaries, and she enjoyed it, because 00:36:22.94\00:36:27.95 we need people young at heart and young 00:36:28.05\00:36:30.65 people to work together. - I think it's important, 00:36:30.75\00:36:33.05 and I like that a lot. As you touched on 00:36:33.15\00:36:34.96 this earlier is that you really are strongly 00:36:35.06\00:36:37.86 encouraging the young people to participate in 00:36:37.93\00:36:41.20 their local church, 'cause it's nice to 00:36:41.30\00:36:43.33 come to a big event. "Wow, this is fun; 00:36:43.40\00:36:45.37 this is really neat," then go home and 00:36:45.47\00:36:47.04 really do nothing. I like that. And I like 00:36:47.14\00:36:49.04 the other thing about GYC, too (there's many things 00:36:49.14\00:36:51.01 I like about GYC). - Yeah, yeah. [laughter] - But one 00:36:51.11\00:36:53.31 is that you also are encouraging those 00:36:53.38\00:36:55.81 that are more experienced (I'm not going to say "older"). 00:36:55.98\00:36:57.75 [laughter] And I'm? falling in that category now,? 00:36:57.81\00:37:01.12 [laughter] So, but you know, maybe those that 00:37:01.22\00:37:06.22 have more experience, like you mentioned this 00:37:06.29\00:37:07.62 one person at 93 years of age. They have a lot 00:37:07.66\00:37:09.49 that we as young people can actually glean from 00:37:09.56\00:37:12.53 them. So, I think to have that interaction 00:37:12.59\00:37:14.00 together is really good. You're seminar presenters. 00:37:14.10\00:37:16.33 You have a wide? of ages. You have 00:37:16.43\00:37:19.20 some that are very young- peers-but they're actually 00:37:19.27\00:37:22.07 presenting, too. Others, been around a little while, 00:37:22.17\00:37:24.54 have great things to say, and I really appreciate 00:37:24.64\00:37:26.78 your leadership, the leadership of GYC-to 00:37:26.88\00:37:29.81 mix that so nicely, because... I don't 00:37:29.91\00:37:33.95 know. To me, it shows a working together- 00:37:34.05\00:37:35.92 a very important part. - Yeah! And that is so 00:37:36.02\00:37:38.39 important. There's a reason why, even as 00:37:38.49\00:37:42.29 GYC, we have a board of directors. In my team, 00:37:42.36\00:37:46.70 the youngest member just turned 20. - Okay, 00:37:46.80\00:37:50.10 that's pretty young. - They were 19 last 00:37:51.37\00:37:53.44 year. - I think I'm starting to feel a 00:37:53.54\00:37:56.64 little old. [laughter] - And we have a board 00:37:56.71\00:37:59.64 of directors who are advanced and experienced 00:37:59.77\00:38:03.35 in age. But the reason why we have those 00:38:03.48\00:38:06.21 truths is because we believe that we have 00:38:06.31\00:38:09.18 to work beyond just generations together, 00:38:09.28\00:38:12.15 because we all have the same mission to see Jesus 00:38:12.29\00:38:15.12 come in our lifetime. - Praise the Lord. 00:38:15.19\00:38:16.69 - And there's so much that young people can 00:38:16.76\00:38:18.86 learn from those who are more experienced 00:38:18.93\00:38:21.86 than they are. 'Cause we might have the zeal, 00:38:21.96\00:38:25.33 but they might have the wisdom. - Yeah, 00:38:25.43\00:38:27.67 that's right. - So, we don't want to be foolish. 00:38:27.74\00:38:30.17 - Mhm. - And think that we as young people can 00:38:30.27\00:38:32.47 finish the work just by ourselves. We need the 00:38:32.57\00:38:35.71 experience, we need to learn from failures and 00:38:35.78\00:38:38.71 successes... So, we really hunger for that 00:38:38.81\00:38:41.75 at GYC, those people who believe in young 00:38:41.85\00:38:45.65 people. [Amen.] - So, we've talked about the 00:38:45.75\00:38:48.06 prayer room, we've talked about the devotional-it's 00:38:48.12\00:38:51.56 just before breakfast- then the seminars... 00:38:51.66\00:38:54.36 And I know? one day we've talked on 00:38:54.43\00:38:56.26 this just a little bit is the outreach time. 00:38:56.36\00:38:57.73 We've actually talked about it a few times 00:38:57.80\00:38:59.30 and some of the numbers, but that's a huge day. 00:38:59.40\00:39:01.97 At Houston- it was Sunday, because it 00:39:02.10\00:39:04.94 kind of started at a different time. It 00:39:05.01\00:39:06.34 started Friday night, which is a little bit 00:39:06.37\00:39:07.71 different, just because of how the holiday and 00:39:07.74\00:39:09.08 everything worked out. But outreach day was 00:39:09.11\00:39:11.98 on Sunday. You know how many buses went 00:39:12.08\00:39:13.58 out? How many young people went out 00:39:13.65\00:39:15.22 in Houston on Sunday for outreach? - Oh, 00:39:15.32\00:39:18.05 yes! Well, we had close to almost 2,000 young 00:39:18.12\00:39:22.39 people that went out on outreach in Houston. 00:39:22.49\00:39:25.73 - Yeah, it's incredible. - I don't know the 00:39:25.83\00:39:28.90 exact number of buses, but I can assure you that 00:39:29.00\00:39:31.93 almost those 2,000 people had space on 00:39:32.00\00:39:34.74 the bus. - Yeah, amen. - So, it was more than 00:39:34.80\00:39:37.41 30 buses that went out throughout the entire 00:39:37.51\00:39:42.01 community. They did something very unique 00:39:42.08\00:39:45.28 in that some of them went to affluent 00:39:45.35\00:39:47.28 communities to gather food, as well, for the 00:39:47.38\00:39:49.88 refugees, 'cause not only did we want to 00:39:49.95\00:39:52.35 tend to their spiritual need, but we wanted 00:39:52.42\00:39:54.09 them to have some basic necessities. So, we went 00:39:54.16\00:39:57.33 to the affluent communities, and the affluent communities 00:39:57.39\00:39:59.53 provided all the needs for the refugees. So, 00:39:59.63\00:40:03.06 some buses went there and everything like that, 00:40:03.16\00:40:05.13 and it was a wonderful outreach. So, that's 00:40:05.23\00:40:09.24 how many people actually... about how many people 00:40:09.34\00:40:11.84 went on outreach. - Wow. - Why is outreach important? 00:40:11.94\00:40:14.38 Because, I mean, GYC hasn't abandoned that 00:40:14.48\00:40:16.51 plan-ever since I've been around with GYC, 00:40:16.61\00:40:18.35 they have always had outreach. Why is that 00:40:18.45\00:40:20.32 such an important part of GYC? - Well, I would 00:40:20.42\00:40:23.95 say for two main reasons. Reason #1: some people 00:40:24.05\00:40:26.39 learn by doing. We have seminars which are great, 00:40:26.49\00:40:30.23 we have the prayer room which is a powerful 00:40:30.33\00:40:32.66 experience, but some people just need that 00:40:32.76\00:40:34.73 hands-on, "Let's get out and let's do something." 00:40:34.80\00:40:38.00 So, that's one of the reasons why we do 00:40:38.07\00:40:40.97 outreach. Another one is that we believe the 00:40:41.04\00:40:44.11 best in-reach is outreach. - Oh, wow. - Unpack that. 00:40:44.21\00:40:48.68 - Yeah, so that's what we- we believe in that, 00:40:48.78\00:40:51.98 so if we want young people to have an 00:40:52.11\00:40:54.78 experience with God, they have to live a 00:40:54.85\00:40:57.69 life like God. God went out. He mingled with 00:40:57.79\00:41:01.36 people. He, most of the day, He was doing things 00:41:01.49\00:41:05.06 with people, and that's where you find Jesus is 00:41:05.13\00:41:08.83 when you do the things that Jesus was passionate 00:41:08.93\00:41:10.93 about. So, that's another reason for outreach...and 00:41:11.00\00:41:14.57 lastly because we don't have much time. I say 00:41:14.64\00:41:21.84 this very seriously. We don't know if we'll 00:41:21.91\00:41:24.05 have another GYC. - Good point. - Things can happen. 00:41:24.15\00:41:28.55 We live in a blessed country, but different 00:41:28.62\00:41:32.35 things can happen, you know? You never know. 00:41:32.42\00:41:34.49 So, we have this urgency about this community that 00:41:34.59\00:41:40.33 we're going into. We want them to have an 00:41:40.46\00:41:43.00 experience to accept, or the opportunity to 00:41:43.06\00:41:46.97 accept Jesus. - Amen. - So, we have this urgency, 00:41:47.07\00:41:52.27 and it's so urgent that we're constantly thinking 00:41:52.37\00:41:56.14 of ways how we can impact the world, 00:41:56.21\00:41:58.51 because we have that sense of urgency. - Yeah, 00:42:00.58\00:42:06.12 Pastor, you're right on. It's interesting, because 00:42:06.19\00:42:08.76 we watch the young people as they gather in the main 00:42:08.82\00:42:10.76 hall, getting ready for outreach. Some of them 00:42:10.83\00:42:12.99 look absolutely terrified. Some of them are there 00:42:13.09\00:42:16.63 with a lot of confidence; they've done this before. 00:42:16.70\00:42:18.37 What's really amazing is that when the young 00:42:18.47\00:42:21.70 people come back and start streaming back 00:42:21.80\00:42:23.97 in from the buses dropping them off... You talk about 00:42:24.04\00:42:26.34 a difference. - Oh, yeah. - They are excited, and 00:42:26.41\00:42:30.08 they are talking to each other. There is 00:42:30.18\00:42:32.15 a whole nother level of energy, even in the main 00:42:32.21\00:42:34.65 auditorium for that night after they've 00:42:34.72\00:42:36.58 gone out on outreach. There's just kind of 00:42:36.69\00:42:38.15 like a little murmur before we go live, 00:42:38.22\00:42:40.29 because I know what they're doing. They're 00:42:40.39\00:42:41.92 talking about their experiences of the 00:42:41.99\00:42:44.09 day and what God has done! It's just amazing 00:42:44.16\00:42:46.96 to see that. And Jason, you get the opportunity 00:42:47.06\00:42:48.70 to be at the exhibits, which is another important 00:42:48.80\00:42:50.47 part of GYC. Talk about that, 'cause you work 00:42:50.57\00:42:52.63 heavily there in the GYC booth...or the 00:42:52.73\00:42:55.07 3ABN booth at GYC. There we go. - Yes. 00:42:55.14\00:42:57.97 [laughter] I mean, it's amazing, because one 00:42:58.07\00:43:01.04 thing that is really exciting to me is seeing 00:43:01.14\00:43:03.65 so many young people that are on fire for 00:43:03.75\00:43:06.28 the Lord. So, being at the booth, I get a chance 00:43:06.38\00:43:09.02 and an opportunity to have conversations with 00:43:09.12\00:43:12.25 them to talk to them and to hear some of 00:43:12.35\00:43:16.06 their experiences, you know? I hear some of the 00:43:16.16\00:43:19.06 stories about outreach, or people share how 00:43:19.13\00:43:24.47 they're enjoying the conference and the 00:43:24.57\00:43:26.33 different seminars and all of those things. I mean, 00:43:26.40\00:43:29.24 it's just amazing to be able to interact 00:43:29.34\00:43:31.54 with these young people that so many people say 00:43:31.64\00:43:34.64 are missing from the church, but yet they're 00:43:34.74\00:43:37.91 right there on fire! And another interesting 00:43:37.98\00:43:40.98 thing about it is the fact that GYC isn't 00:43:41.05\00:43:43.75 free to attend, per se, and so they're making 00:43:43.89\00:43:47.99 an investment in their walk, you know? - That's 00:43:48.06\00:43:54.00 a good point. - I mean, all of our workforce... 00:43:54.10\00:43:57.47 Almost all of them are volunteers. I myself, 00:43:57.53\00:44:05.47 even though I'm the president, I have to 00:44:05.57\00:44:06.91 pay full registration, my flight for my wife 00:44:06.98\00:44:10.95 and me, and it's very interesting, you know? 00:44:10.98\00:44:14.78 And our meals if we want meals and all 00:44:14.88\00:44:16.89 those things. But the idea behind it is that 00:44:16.99\00:44:20.59 we're investing in our future. It's... Young 00:44:20.66\00:44:27.66 people want to be challenged; they don't 00:44:27.73\00:44:29.76 want to be entertained. - Yeah. - If we wanted to 00:44:29.86\00:44:32.67 be entertained, there are many places that 00:44:32.73\00:44:34.57 could entertain you. We want to be challenged. 00:44:34.64\00:44:39.41 And when young people see a challenge, they 00:44:39.47\00:44:41.78 want to rise. So, that's why I believe people are 00:44:41.88\00:44:45.28 willing to invest into GYC, because GYC's 00:44:45.35\00:44:48.02 not cheap. I know from personal experience! 00:44:48.22\00:44:51.52 [laughter] But it's almost fully funded 00:44:51.62\00:44:57.06 by young people. It's such a blessing, because 00:44:57.09\00:45:02.06 God blesses when He knows we are seeking to uplift 00:45:02.13\00:45:05.60 Him. I've had wonderful stories of young people 00:45:05.70\00:45:10.37 who will canvass the whole summer and use most of 00:45:10.51\00:45:16.01 their money to go to a GYC. - Wow. - So 00:45:16.11\00:45:19.51 they're knocking on doors throughout the summer, 00:45:19.55\00:45:20.95 selling religious books to raise money so that 00:45:21.05\00:45:23.99 they can go to GYC. - Yes. [Wow.] Some of them even 00:45:24.09\00:45:28.56 do what we call faith trip. They begin? 00:45:28.62\00:45:33.16 California, GYC's in Houston. They will 00:45:33.23\00:45:35.90 stop at different towns and canvass their way 00:45:36.00\00:45:37.80 through GYC. And when they come to GYC, they 00:45:37.87\00:45:40.64 have the money they need. So, we have quite a few 00:45:40.74\00:45:44.77 people that do that. But it's because they 00:45:44.87\00:45:48.98 see the value in coming together with people 00:45:49.08\00:45:52.08 who are like-minded and being inspired that having 00:45:52.18\00:45:57.05 a place where they can live out their values 00:45:57.12\00:46:00.06 to the fullest and be challenged. - You know, 00:46:00.16\00:46:03.56 it's... My mind is still blown, because you said 00:46:03.63\00:46:06.06 something a minute ago. You're the president of 00:46:06.13\00:46:08.50 GYC and you pay for registration, you pay 00:46:08.56\00:46:12.17 for all that, and all your travel and your 00:46:12.23\00:46:15.10 family, and you give up your time to put into all 00:46:15.20\00:46:20.54 of this. It speaks to your dedication, to 00:46:20.61\00:46:22.94 the cause, and to Christ. - Well, we praise the Lord. 00:46:23.04\00:46:25.28 And I didn't correct myself. I pay early 00:46:25.35\00:46:27.98 bird registration - $20 off. [laughter] 00:46:28.08\00:46:31.69 You get $20 off. But yeah! - It's well worth 00:46:31.79\00:46:35.76 it. - It's well worth it. I will register early, 00:46:35.82\00:46:39.46 anyhow, so... [laughter] - But it's worth it to 00:46:39.53\00:46:42.30 put the money out there to attend GYC. - Oh, yeah. 00:46:42.36\00:46:45.20 - I never think it's a sacrifice. For me, the 00:46:45.27\00:46:50.17 sacrifice will be probably not helping with GYC; I 00:46:50.27\00:46:54.78 don't know that. But that to me is, it's a 00:46:54.84\00:46:59.78 joy. That's the reason for existence...to spread 00:46:59.85\00:47:02.78 the three angels' message. - Amen, 00:47:02.85\00:47:04.89 that's right. So, we hope that you are 00:47:04.99\00:47:06.69 excited about GYC. You might have a young 00:47:06.79\00:47:09.42 person that has never attended that you're 00:47:09.49\00:47:11.49 like, "Boy, I think they would really be blessed," 00:47:11.59\00:47:12.93 someone in your church, maybe a family member, 00:47:12.96\00:47:14.50 maybe you, yourself, want to attend GYC. So, 00:47:14.56\00:47:17.70 we need you, Pastor, to tell us... We were talking 00:47:17.77\00:47:20.30 about Houston, but that's in the past. We're looking 00:47:20.34\00:47:22.74 forward to GYC where and when and what is 00:47:22.80\00:47:25.31 the theme? - Yes. So, our next GYC will actually 00:47:25.37\00:47:28.74 be January 1, 2020. It will be in Louisville, 00:47:28.81\00:47:33.55 Kentucky. - Okay! That's not far from us. - Not far 00:47:33.62\00:47:36.85 from 3ABN, and our theme is going to be 00:47:36.92\00:47:40.42 By Many or by Few. We're going to be talking about 00:47:40.52\00:47:43.46 the story of Jonathan. The reason why we chose 00:47:43.53\00:47:46.46 that theme is because in these last days, God 00:47:46.53\00:47:50.93 is looking for people who are willing to take 00:47:51.03\00:47:53.17 a personal stand for Him. "By Many or by Few," God 00:47:53.23\00:47:57.51 is going to accomplish the work. So, that's 00:47:57.61\00:48:00.68 why we chose this theme. We also want to focus 00:48:00.74\00:48:03.65 on mission; that's something that's so 00:48:03.75\00:48:05.55 important to GYC. We have an initiative, for 00:48:05.61\00:48:08.75 example, to go to the island or to the country 00:48:08.82\00:48:11.72 of Iceland and pray for the entire country. So, 00:48:11.79\00:48:16.96 that's one of our big initiatives coming up 00:48:17.06\00:48:18.83 in the summer. We really want to see Jesus come 00:48:18.93\00:48:23.60 in our generation. So, that can only be done 00:48:23.70\00:48:26.74 through the power of the Holy Spirit. - Wow. 00:48:26.80\00:48:28.84 - And we want to be ready when He's ready 00:48:28.90\00:48:30.44 to move. - Amen. - Go ahead, Jason. - I was 00:48:30.51\00:48:33.61 just going to ask you a quick question, and 00:48:33.68\00:48:35.34 hopefully, we can get a...it's kind of a packed 00:48:35.44\00:48:39.55 question. For those that haven't been to GYC before 00:48:39.61\00:48:44.25 but they want to make an impact in their community 00:48:44.35\00:48:46.89 and they want to maybe study the Bible with 00:48:46.96\00:48:49.92 somebody or lead out in the study, what do you 00:48:50.03\00:48:51.86 recommend? - Well, I recommend for them, #1, 00:48:51.89\00:48:55.46 is go to the Bible and pray, and study the 00:48:55.56\00:49:02.00 Bible for yourself. Then, I will also recommend them 00:49:02.14\00:49:07.44 to... You know, we have different affiliates 00:49:07.48\00:49:10.15 throughout here in America that might 00:49:10.25\00:49:13.88 be closer to where they are, and they can find 00:49:13.98\00:49:16.32 all those affiliates on GYCweb.org at 00:49:16.38\00:49:20.16 Affiliates. - Okay. - Go be connected 00:49:20.26\00:49:23.99 with those young people. Something else that's also 00:49:24.09\00:49:26.90 important is try to be involved in your local 00:49:27.00\00:49:29.26 church. That's very important, because 00:49:29.40\00:49:33.03 the local church is built for service. 00:49:33.10\00:49:35.67 And if you want to be involved with GYC, begin 00:49:35.77\00:49:39.87 at your local church and attend at GYC. 00:49:39.97\00:49:42.68 It's the experience that makes all the difference- 00:49:42.78\00:49:45.28 being with all those people that are there 00:49:45.38\00:49:49.02 for one thing, and that is to be filled with the 00:49:49.08\00:49:52.85 Holy Spirit. - You know, and I like that you 00:49:52.95\00:49:55.56 mentioned earlier that GYC is Bible-based, 00:49:55.62\00:49:58.83 and that's critical, 'cause we all have 00:49:58.89\00:50:00.96 opinions or we can go off in this direction or 00:50:01.06\00:50:03.67 that direction...but when we base what we believe 00:50:03.77\00:50:06.80 on the Word of God, you can't go wrong. I like 00:50:06.87\00:50:09.87 that about GYC, making the Bible the center of 00:50:09.94\00:50:13.34 everything. The outreach, the seminars, the prayer 00:50:13.44\00:50:17.35 room... So, we want to encourage you-Jason, 00:50:17.45\00:50:19.45 I do, right? - Yes. - To attend GYC! I know you, 00:50:19.55\00:50:22.28 too, Pastor. Louisville, Kentucky. You said 00:50:22.35\00:50:24.89 starting January 1, 2020? And we'll be doing, by 00:50:24.95\00:50:29.09 God's grace, everything we're talking about. 00:50:29.19\00:50:31.03 There'll be seminars there, the prayer room, 00:50:31.09\00:50:32.86 the outreach-many things to be involved with. I know 00:50:32.96\00:50:35.73 that GYC also does some mission work, as well. 00:50:35.83\00:50:39.13 - We have a lot of things prepared for this GYC in 00:50:39.23\00:50:42.77 Louisville. I'm just going to put it that 00:50:42.87\00:50:44.31 way. There are things that I believe are going 00:50:44.41\00:50:50.25 to be extremely mission- focused, are going to 00:50:50.31\00:50:53.82 challenge young people, so we have some things 00:50:53.88\00:50:57.35 in store by God's grace. So, if they can be there, 00:50:57.45\00:51:01.26 if you can be there, it'll be a blessing. 00:51:01.32\00:51:03.76 - So we're getting ready to go to some contact 00:51:03.86\00:51:06.03 information. Pastor, I know we're going to 00:51:06.13\00:51:08.40 give your website; it's one of the big things 00:51:08.50\00:51:10.20 we're going to push people toward. But 00:51:10.27\00:51:12.63 what will they find there? Obviously, 00:51:12.73\00:51:14.07 registration and other things. What would 00:51:14.10\00:51:15.47 they find at the website, and then what are some 00:51:15.50\00:51:17.04 of your needs? - Yeah! So, at the website, 00:51:17.11\00:51:19.67 they'll find information about how they can get 00:51:19.74\00:51:22.94 involved, registration, what is GYC doing, blogs, 00:51:23.01\00:51:27.32 podcasts. We have podcasts. - Wow, cool. - And also, it's 00:51:27.38\00:51:31.15 of content that they might find a blessing, 00:51:31.25\00:51:33.22 as well, there. Some of our needs are we always 00:51:33.36\00:51:38.06 want young people to participate at a GYC. 00:51:38.13\00:51:40.93 We always appreciate donations and help; 00:51:41.03\00:51:44.80 but ultimately, we want young people to be 00:51:44.87\00:51:47.67 mission-focused. - Amen. - And if young people want 00:51:47.74\00:51:51.31 to do something for the Lord, please come. - All 00:51:51.41\00:51:54.81 right. So- thank you. Well said. So, what we 00:51:54.91\00:51:57.28 want to do right now is actually go to our address 00:51:57.35\00:51:59.01 roll where you can help GYC there financially, 00:51:59.08\00:52:01.95 find out more information about the upcoming GYC, 00:52:02.05\00:52:04.35 even some statistics we talked about earlier. 00:52:04.39\00:52:06.76 Let's go to that right now. - If you would like to attend 00:52:06.86\00:52:12.43 the next GYC conference or if you'd like to learn 00:52:12.49\00:52:15.70 more about the opportunities this organization offers, then 00:52:15.80\00:52:19.27 why not visit their website, GYCweb.org?
