Thank you for joining us as 00:01:11.80\00:01:14.27 you do each and every day. Thank you for 00:01:14.34\00:01:16.47 your love and your prayers and your 00:01:16.57\00:01:18.31 financial support of 3ABN as we endeavor 00:01:18.37\00:01:21.34 to take this great gospel of the kingdom 00:01:21.41\00:01:23.85 into all the world. I may be getting 00:01:23.91\00:01:26.45 old, but I'll tell you what- I've never 00:01:26.55\00:01:28.05 been more excited about the gospel, 00:01:28.12\00:01:29.78 about 3ABN, about the work, the mission 00:01:29.88\00:01:33.52 of the church, of 3ABN, than I am right now. 00:01:33.62\00:01:38.43 - Amen. - So, I praise God for the 00:01:38.49\00:01:40.56 opportunity to be living in the closing 00:01:40.66\00:01:42.43 moments of Earth's history. Today, if 00:01:42.50\00:01:45.33 you're a Christian, we want you to 00:01:45.43\00:01:47.87 take this seriously. We want you to go 00:01:47.94\00:01:49.74 to God and say, "Lord, what would 00:01:49.80\00:01:51.14 you have me to do?" If you're not, today 00:01:51.17\00:01:53.14 is a day of salvation, because I promise 00:01:53.17\00:01:55.14 you, you won't find peace and joy and 00:01:55.24\00:01:57.71 happiness until you accept Jesus Christ 00:01:57.78\00:02:00.32 into your life as Lord and Savior of 00:02:00.42\00:02:02.85 your life. That peace is an amazing thing, 00:02:02.95\00:02:06.15 and you can get it. So today, you can 00:02:06.22\00:02:08.76 call us. We have people who'd love 00:02:08.82\00:02:10.33 to pray with you if you need somebody 00:02:10.43\00:02:11.96 to pray with you. I'm here with my 00:02:12.06\00:02:13.60 wife Yvonne. Yvonne, we're going to have 00:02:13.73\00:02:15.83 a great program today in the Lord. - We are! 00:02:15.93\00:02:18.47 I'm so excited. I love our guest. He's 00:02:18.53\00:02:21.67 family to us, and this is such a blessing. 00:02:21.77\00:02:26.27 - Pastor Wintley Phipps, it's good to have 00:02:26.37\00:02:28.28 you here today. - Always a joy to be 00:02:28.31\00:02:30.05 with you, and we love you both and 00:02:30.11\00:02:31.85 we've been praying for you. I'm so glad 00:02:31.95\00:02:33.82 to be on the program today. - Thank you so 00:02:33.98\00:02:35.65 much. Founder and CEO of US Dream Academy. 00:02:35.72\00:02:41.66 A lot of people- they know you as 00:02:41.72\00:02:45.33 a singer, and some don't know about the 00:02:45.43\00:02:47.86 Dream Academy. We could speak about it 00:02:47.96\00:02:50.30 for just a little bit, 'cause it's a 00:02:50.40\00:02:51.93 great cause- a work that you're doing. 00:02:51.97\00:02:54.27 But today, we're here- we're actually debuting, 00:02:54.37\00:02:57.57 if I can use that word, a brand-new- 00:02:57.64\00:02:59.47 I want to say album, but that's way past. 00:02:59.54\00:03:02.88 Albums dates its way back. I used to 00:03:03.01\00:03:07.12 say 'record.' "Play the record," you know? 00:03:07.15\00:03:09.12 Now, I see that- I just saw recently, 00:03:09.22\00:03:12.39 they're bringing records back. Now, 00:03:12.45\00:03:14.49 young people want records so they can 00:03:14.56\00:03:16.19 have records again, 'cause they think, "Wow, 00:03:16.29\00:03:18.46 these antiques is pretty neat." [laughter] 00:03:18.56\00:03:21.30 Today, you have a brand-new project. 00:03:22.13\00:03:24.27 We're looking forward to it. You're entitling 00:03:24.37\00:03:27.14 it, "Glorious Church." Before we get into 00:03:27.20\00:03:31.11 this too much, we're going to show some of 00:03:31.17\00:03:32.87 the songs he's going to be singing for us 00:03:32.94\00:03:34.61 here a bit. Tell us a little bit about the 00:03:34.68\00:03:36.81 Dream Academy. We want to talk a little 00:03:36.91\00:03:39.78 bit about Wintley, your past, and your 00:03:39.85\00:03:41.92 mission for the future. - Sure. Well, the 00:03:42.02\00:03:44.42 Dream Academy is a ministry that brings 00:03:44.49\00:03:46.76 tutoring and mentoring after school in the name 00:03:46.82\00:03:50.49 of Christ to children whose parents are 00:03:50.53\00:03:52.99 incarcerated, and children falling 00:03:53.06\00:03:55.20 behind in school. We've been doing it 00:03:55.26\00:03:58.07 for 20 years now (which is a miracle 00:03:58.13\00:04:01.17 all by itself). We're just praising God. 00:04:01.24\00:04:04.94 We focus on giving the kids a snack 00:04:04.97\00:04:07.88 after school, homework help; we give them 00:04:07.94\00:04:12.45 an opportunity to catch a vision of what 00:04:12.51\00:04:14.82 they're dreaming of inside. If a kid 00:04:14.92\00:04:17.52 wants to be a teacher, we want them to see 00:04:17.59\00:04:19.75 what that's like-or if she wants to be 00:04:19.82\00:04:22.19 a doctor, we want her to see what that's 00:04:22.26\00:04:23.63 like. Then, we focus on building character, 00:04:23.66\00:04:27.83 because at the end of the day, character 00:04:27.86\00:04:32.57 is the most important thing that we have. 00:04:32.67\00:04:35.54 It's more important than the money we make, 00:04:36.54\00:04:39.04 it's more important than the accomplishments 00:04:39.11\00:04:41.58 we have. - That is so true. There's a 00:04:41.64\00:04:44.58 book that I read about how children succeed. 00:04:44.65\00:04:48.18 The name of the book is How Children Succeed, 00:04:48.28\00:04:50.99 and he was saying- the author was saying- 00:04:51.09\00:04:53.15 that it's not just about reading, writing, 00:04:53.22\00:04:57.19 and arithmetic. It's about character-building. 00:04:57.29\00:04:59.76 - Absolutely. - It's about discipline. It's 00:04:59.86\00:05:01.80 about stick-to-itiveness. It's about integrity. 00:05:01.86\00:05:04.40 It sounds like that's what a focus is 00:05:04.47\00:05:07.64 with the Dream Academy. - Yes! And I've found 00:05:07.74\00:05:10.97 God's divine plan- what the servant of 00:05:11.11\00:05:14.68 God calls-God's divine plan for the development 00:05:14.74\00:05:18.91 of Christian character. It's in 2 Peter 1:5-7. 00:05:18.98\00:05:23.72 God says, "There are 8 dimensions of 00:05:24.65\00:05:26.42 character. I want you to have-want all of 00:05:26.52\00:05:28.62 my children to have- strong faith, values 00:05:28.69\00:05:32.26 or virtue or moral integrity, a love of 00:05:32.33\00:05:37.03 knowledge and learning, self-control, patience, 00:05:37.13\00:05:42.94 a respect for what is sacred or holiness- 00:05:43.04\00:05:47.44 a respect for what is holy-kindness, and 00:05:47.48\00:05:51.75 love. Those 8 dimensions, what we focus on, 00:05:51.85\00:05:55.95 because it's God's divine plan-for the 00:05:56.02\00:05:59.32 development of character. For example, 00:05:59.39\00:06:01.16 patience. The children who learn patience are 00:06:01.22\00:06:07.76 the ones who go on to be the most successful. 00:06:07.86\00:06:10.00 Why? I heard a man say once, "I've seen 00:06:10.07\00:06:13.34 impatience," he said, "destroy more talented 00:06:13.44\00:06:16.64 people than anything else." That's why 00:06:16.71\00:06:20.58 you get into things that you shouldn't get 00:06:20.68\00:06:23.01 into before you should get into them. That's 00:06:23.11\00:06:27.52 what teenage pregnancy's all about; that's what 00:06:27.62\00:06:30.22 trying things- learn to be patient, and 00:06:30.29\00:06:33.89 it helps. - Deferred gratification. - That's 00:06:33.99\00:06:37.66 correct. - Right? They have research 00:06:37.73\00:06:39.43 studies that show that children who can 00:06:39.49\00:06:41.90 defer gratification... The question was 00:06:41.96\00:06:45.33 asked, "Do you want these apples now?" 00:06:45.43\00:06:48.64 I don't remember what the thing was. "Now? 00:06:48.70\00:06:50.67 Or can you wait for 20 more minutes and 00:06:50.77\00:06:53.48 get 2 apples?" It was something like that, 00:06:53.54\00:06:56.04 and the children who could wait are the 00:06:56.11\00:06:59.35 children who later became the most 00:06:59.45\00:07:01.15 successful. - Absolutely. Character's important. 00:07:01.25\00:07:04.32 - Yeah. It is, truly. - Absolutely. Well, 00:07:04.35\00:07:07.39 we're so thankful for the work that you're 00:07:07.49\00:07:08.82 doing there. You are known around the world 00:07:08.92\00:07:11.43 as a singer, speaker, you're still a pastor, 00:07:11.49\00:07:15.70 so I don't know how he does it all, but... 00:07:15.76\00:07:19.23 - I know! He's always on a plane! He and 00:07:19.30\00:07:21.77 Linda-they're always riding a plane. - I 00:07:21.84\00:07:23.24 started to say I thought I've traveled 00:07:23.34\00:07:24.67 a lot over the years, but he definitely 00:07:24.71\00:07:26.24 travels more than I have. Literally, you've 00:07:26.34\00:07:29.91 been on a plane for, sometimes, several times 00:07:29.98\00:07:33.35 a week for 30+ years. - And you have to 00:07:33.42\00:07:35.92 have a church that loves you and a church 00:07:35.98\00:07:39.19 that supports you. I've been pastoring my 00:07:39.25\00:07:41.96 church for 16 years. - Oh, wow. - So, 00:07:42.02\00:07:45.56 just to be able to say that is a testament 00:07:45.73\00:07:49.30 of blessing. I pastored the Palm 00:07:49.40\00:07:51.30 Bay Seventh-Day Adventist church in 00:07:51.37\00:07:53.70 Palm Bay, Florida, and I've got members 00:07:53.80\00:07:56.00 who, wherever I am in the world, I know 00:07:56.07\00:07:58.84 they're praying for me. Do you know what 00:07:58.91\00:08:01.31 that's like? To know that you have members 00:08:01.41\00:08:03.68 who see you not just as the pastor of the 00:08:03.78\00:08:06.75 Palm Bay church, or of the church, but 00:08:06.85\00:08:09.88 the pastor FROM the church to the rest 00:08:09.95\00:08:12.82 of the world. It's a beautiful thing. 00:08:12.92\00:08:15.56 I love them, and I think they love me, too. 00:08:15.59\00:08:19.56 - What I'd like to do- he's going to be doing 00:08:19.63\00:08:22.96 a few songs for us, so we don't have a 00:08:23.03\00:08:24.77 lot of time to talk. Give us the short 00:08:24.83\00:08:28.77 version of how a little boy from Trinidad, 00:08:28.84\00:08:31.51 growing up, ends up singing before presidents- 00:08:31.61\00:08:34.98 around the world- kings and queens and 00:08:35.04\00:08:37.25 presidents, and many presidents here in 00:08:37.28\00:08:39.51 the United States of America. How do you 00:08:39.58\00:08:41.85 get from that point, playing in the sand, 00:08:41.95\00:08:45.12 watching airplanes take off, to being 00:08:45.19\00:08:47.26 now literally known for singing around 00:08:47.36\00:08:49.72 the world the gospel music? - Well, I had 00:08:49.82\00:08:54.20 an aunt that came by to visit me one day, 00:08:54.30\00:08:56.13 and she was looking at the pictures of 00:08:56.20\00:08:57.80 me and the 6 presidents of the United States 00:08:57.90\00:09:00.17 and different magazine covers... She said, 00:09:00.20\00:09:04.97 "I want to tell you something," so we 00:09:05.04\00:09:06.61 sat down. She said, "When your father, 00:09:06.71\00:09:10.68 my brother- we had a sister named Pearl. 00:09:10.78\00:09:15.68 A couple years before you were born, 1953, 00:09:15.75\00:09:22.56 Pearl died while trying to deal with an 00:09:22.66\00:09:30.00 unwanted pregnancy situation. We were 00:09:30.10\00:09:35.74 broken. The family was just devastated. 00:09:35.84\00:09:38.47 When your mother became pregnant 00:09:38.54\00:09:41.81 with you, there were some who were urging 00:09:41.88\00:09:44.78 her that she needed to do the same, but 00:09:44.88\00:09:47.62 we gathered around and said, 'Absolutely 00:09:47.65\00:09:49.35 not.' We've been through too much. 00:09:49.42\00:09:54.06 Your mother's mother paid a visit to your 00:09:54.16\00:09:59.06 father's mother. They closed the door, 00:09:59.16\00:10:01.50 they came together, and they made a pact 00:10:01.56\00:10:05.13 that they were going to pray for the life 00:10:05.20\00:10:08.87 of this child. The prayer that they 00:10:08.94\00:10:12.34 covenanted-that they would pray-was, 00:10:12.41\00:10:15.38 "Lord, make this child's life a blessing 00:10:15.44\00:10:19.88 to the world." So, I would like to think 00:10:19.98\00:10:25.12 that the voice God gave me, the opportunities... 00:10:25.19\00:10:29.69 All of those wonderful opportunities that 00:10:29.76\00:10:33.26 I've had in life... But I've got to 00:10:33.36\00:10:35.90 understand and remember that I am 00:10:36.00\00:10:39.40 living the answer to Grandmother's prayers. 00:10:39.47\00:10:43.17 The thing that also moved me was because 00:10:44.77\00:10:50.08 my aunt Pearl died, I was able to live. 00:10:50.18\00:10:54.95 God saw my situation and decided that He 00:10:56.38\00:11:00.09 would place in my throat something 00:11:00.19\00:11:03.02 unique in the world. I praise Him for it. 00:11:03.09\00:11:06.73 I don't deserve it. I look back now after 00:11:06.80\00:11:10.13 40+ years of only singing for the glory 00:11:10.23\00:11:14.40 of God. That was my way of saying, "Thank 00:11:14.47\00:11:20.24 you, Lord. Thank You for sparing my life, 00:11:20.34\00:11:23.61 thank You for giving me an opportunity 00:11:23.65\00:11:27.28 to be a candidate for the kingdom of 00:11:27.38\00:11:29.48 heaven, thank You for allowing me not just 00:11:29.55\00:11:33.52 to live on Earth, but because of the 00:11:33.62\00:11:36.46 grace of Jesus, I can live forever." I 00:11:36.52\00:11:41.10 hope that answers your question...in a different 00:11:41.20\00:11:44.23 way, but... - It does. One of the 00:11:44.30\00:11:46.03 things that I most appreciate about 00:11:46.13\00:11:47.70 Wintley, and what I appreciate about 00:11:47.77\00:11:50.14 you- I don't just throw out compliments 00:11:50.24\00:11:52.21 all the time. One of the things that 00:11:52.34\00:11:54.24 I believe it's why God has blessed Him 00:11:54.34\00:11:56.54 so abundantly is that I have noticed- 00:11:56.68\00:11:59.31 and known you a long time-and I've 00:11:59.38\00:12:00.82 noticed over the years when people 00:12:00.85\00:12:02.85 get into the arenas that you are, that you 00:12:02.95\00:12:06.62 sing in before congressmen, senators, 00:12:06.69\00:12:09.19 presidents, and again, kings and queens 00:12:09.29\00:12:13.13 around the world, it seems-and I don't 00:12:13.23\00:12:16.50 want to say most, but- many compromise 00:12:16.56\00:12:19.00 the integrity of their music, because when 00:12:19.07\00:12:21.67 you're singing, and some of the folk you 00:12:21.77\00:12:23.97 sing for are very well-known-in secular 00:12:24.01\00:12:27.34 world, as well. So, people get that- 00:12:27.44\00:12:31.75 I saw it way back in Elvis' day when 00:12:31.85\00:12:34.32 a lot of the gospel groups he had sing 00:12:34.38\00:12:36.65 with him instead of them helping him to 00:12:36.75\00:12:39.19 be converted, they all ended up-many 00:12:39.25\00:12:42.06 of those, I should say; not all-many 00:12:42.12\00:12:44.19 of those went the way of the world, 00:12:44.29\00:12:45.83 but I've seen that you've stayed 00:12:45.89\00:12:47.36 focused on your music. You haven't lost 00:12:47.40\00:12:49.63 sight of the words, the styles of music, 00:12:49.73\00:12:53.87 the communication, and that's apparently- 00:12:53.97\00:12:57.24 I wouldn't say it's been an easy thing 00:12:57.34\00:12:59.84 for you to do, but I believe that's why 00:12:59.94\00:13:02.28 God's blessed you. We're going to be 00:13:02.34\00:13:05.25 doing some of the songs here from the new 00:13:05.31\00:13:07.92 project, and it will say exactly what I've 00:13:08.05\00:13:11.19 been saying. After all these years, 00:13:11.29\00:13:13.15 you're still holding fast to what you 00:13:13.22\00:13:16.02 know to be truth and integrity. - Well, 00:13:16.09\00:13:18.29 thank you. It's very simple, really. When 00:13:18.33\00:13:21.96 I walk out or whenever I sing, Jesus is on 00:13:22.06\00:13:26.17 the front row. What I'm doing-whatever 00:13:26.27\00:13:30.77 I'm doing-is for Him first. And so, you 00:13:30.81\00:13:35.78 have to do it with the greatest integrity 00:13:35.84\00:13:39.11 that you can, your heart has to be as 00:13:39.21\00:13:42.35 right as it could be, because you're 00:13:42.45\00:13:45.15 standing before your Savior, the King of 00:13:45.22\00:13:48.72 the universe... So, Jesus is on the front 00:13:48.79\00:13:51.89 row. If other people are blessed, praise 00:13:51.96\00:13:54.30 God; but really, as Ellen White says, 00:13:54.36\00:13:57.13 the purpose of music is to glorify God. 00:13:57.20\00:14:02.07 That's the purpose of it. This past 00:14:02.17\00:14:06.88 week, I had the opportunity to sing 00:14:06.91\00:14:10.55 at the memorial service for a great 00:14:10.65\00:14:14.32 American by the name of Rich DeVos, who's 00:14:14.38\00:14:18.32 the founder of Amway and also owned the 00:14:18.42\00:14:23.56 Orlando Magic basketball team. I was so humbled 00:14:23.63\00:14:31.47 that this man wanted me to be the only 00:14:31.60\00:14:36.34 singer at his memorial service and chose the 00:14:36.44\00:14:41.81 songs. He chose "I'd Rather Have Jesus" 00:14:41.91\00:14:46.78 than silver or gold... Here's a billionaire 00:14:46.88\00:14:51.09 saying, "I'd rather have Jesus than 00:14:51.19\00:14:55.46 silver or gold; I'd rather be His than 00:14:55.52\00:14:58.06 have riches untold." He also chose "He 00:14:58.16\00:15:02.20 Touched Me," and that's why this CD 00:15:02.26\00:15:06.74 that we've done is so special for me, 00:15:06.77\00:15:09.64 because we're doing a lot of the songs that 00:15:09.74\00:15:11.77 are the soundtrack of people's faith. It's 00:15:11.84\00:15:16.28 the soundtrack of growing in the Lord, 00:15:16.34\00:15:20.22 you know? "Shall We Gather at the River," 00:15:20.25\00:15:22.05 "At the Cross," "Jesus Is Coming Again..." 00:15:22.18\00:15:25.89 - "Softly and Tenderly." - "Jesus Paid It All..." 00:15:26.02\00:15:31.03 All of those songs that are really the 00:15:31.09\00:15:33.33 soundtrack of our faith and growing 00:15:33.40\00:15:36.77 in the Lord. And of course, the CD is 00:15:36.83\00:15:39.40 entitled, "Glorious Church." It's titled 00:15:39.47\00:15:43.00 after a song that you commissioned, and I 00:15:43.10\00:15:48.41 felt very honored that you asked me to do 00:15:48.51\00:15:52.85 that song, "Glorious Church." - It was 00:15:52.95\00:15:54.68 written for you by Lanny Wolfe. - It was 00:15:54.75\00:15:56.08 literally written for me... All right! Well. 00:15:56.12\00:15:58.69 It is an amazing song that captures, 00:15:58.79\00:16:06.49 prophetically, where we are, but also the 00:16:06.59\00:16:12.50 triumph of the church of God in the end. 00:16:12.57\00:16:15.54 "Glorious Church" is just one of those 00:16:18.07\00:16:19.57 very unique songs. The lyrics, the message, 00:16:19.71\00:16:24.25 and the music and the orchestration...but 00:16:24.35\00:16:27.15 it captures that Babylon is spiritual 00:16:27.22\00:16:33.59 confusion, it is the union of church and 00:16:33.66\00:16:38.19 state, it's the church embracing state power 00:16:38.29\00:16:45.30 and thinking that they're invincible, 00:16:45.43\00:16:47.64 when the truth of the matter is, it's a 00:16:47.70\00:16:51.44 fallen church. When you ally with Babylon... 00:16:51.51\00:16:54.41 You know, you and I have always been 00:16:54.51\00:16:58.15 around people who try to pull people out 00:16:58.25\00:17:02.05 of the church. They can always find 00:17:02.15\00:17:07.09 something wrong with the church. I told 00:17:07.19\00:17:09.72 a story the other day of a man who 00:17:09.82\00:17:12.69 said to a pastor, "I'm not coming to 00:17:12.76\00:17:14.10 your church because you have a lady by 00:17:14.13\00:17:16.10 the name of Sister Brunson, and she's 00:17:16.16\00:17:17.87 this, and you have another man by the 00:17:18.00\00:17:20.07 name of Mr. Johnson; he's that." I'm just 00:17:20.14\00:17:22.94 as good as they are. So, the pastor, a 00:17:23.00\00:17:27.01 couple weeks later, came to the farmer 00:17:27.08\00:17:29.81 and said, "I'd like to buy a pig from 00:17:29.88\00:17:32.31 you." He said, "Okay." He brought out his 00:17:32.38\00:17:36.22 best pig. He said, "No, no, no, no. I 00:17:36.25\00:17:39.45 want that pig over there." He said, "No! 00:17:39.55\00:17:41.76 You don't want to buy THAT one! That's 00:17:41.82\00:17:43.36 the worst pig I got!" He said, "Well, how 00:17:43.43\00:17:45.26 would you feel if I buy that pig..." No, 00:17:45.33\00:17:48.50 he actually bought the pig! He said, "Okay, 00:17:48.60\00:17:50.53 you know what I'm going to do? I want 00:17:50.63\00:17:51.97 to go throughout the county and tell people 00:17:52.07\00:17:54.14 this is kind of pigs you produce." [laughter] 00:17:54.20\00:17:58.21 Sometimes, we pick out a person- the 00:17:58.31\00:18:02.91 Bible says the wheat and tares grow together. 00:18:02.98\00:18:04.38 We pick out the tares and go and 00:18:04.45\00:18:06.41 say, "This is what the wheat over there 00:18:06.48\00:18:08.38 looks like." You know what I mean? So, one 00:18:08.45\00:18:12.72 of the things about the church that's 00:18:12.79\00:18:14.69 really, really important is that Babylon is a 00:18:14.79\00:18:20.23 mixture of a confusion and the church state 00:18:20.33\00:18:25.00 of power, but the Lord reminds us in 00:18:25.10\00:18:28.54 this song, "Glorious Church," that His 00:18:28.67\00:18:31.54 church will triumph in the end. - You know, 00:18:31.64\00:18:34.61 Yvonne, this was such a great set-up. 00:18:34.68\00:18:36.41 I was going to have him do this one last, 00:18:36.51\00:18:38.68 but I think what we'll do is- we actually- 00:18:38.81\00:18:41.62 you sang it at camp meeting and it's on 00:18:41.72\00:18:45.05 a DVD. I think we'd like to have you do 00:18:45.12\00:18:48.02 that. Now, didn't you co-write that song with 00:18:48.09\00:18:50.26 Lanny Wolfe? - Yes. - Aw! Awesome! 00:18:50.36\00:18:53.16 - She wrote out the main points. Basically, 00:18:53.23\00:18:56.93 she co-writes with him like I do, I think. 00:18:57.03\00:18:59.17 Like, "Lanny, could you really write about 00:18:59.23\00:19:01.04 this subject or talk about Babylon? Can 00:19:01.14\00:19:03.64 you do this?" Put your names on there as 00:19:03.74\00:19:05.67 a co-writer, too. We're going to go to 00:19:05.81\00:19:09.04 that, and then we're going to come back. 00:19:09.11\00:19:10.48 Hopefully, we'll have time for you to do 00:19:10.58\00:19:11.91 about two or three more songs, at least; 00:19:11.95\00:19:13.95 we'll talk about those. This is the song, 00:19:14.05\00:19:16.55 "Glorious Church." 00:19:16.62\00:19:18.95 [audience applauds] 00:26:26.92\00:26:35.49 - Amen. Praise the Lord. - That song is 00:26:35.79\00:26:39.09 just... The anointing is on that song. Your 00:26:39.19\00:26:46.70 delivery of the song is just so- I remember 00:26:46.74\00:26:50.94 when we were in the studio, and he was 00:26:51.04\00:26:53.11 singing it. I was just feeling like, "Oh, 00:26:53.17\00:26:56.14 this is just amazing." - I talked to Lanny Wolfe 00:26:56.21\00:27:00.25 yesterday, the writer, and he said to me, 00:27:00.35\00:27:03.75 "I was just listening again to the songs," 00:27:03.82\00:27:06.89 and these are Lanny's words. "No one could 00:27:06.92\00:27:10.26 deliver 'Glorious Church' like Wintley 00:27:10.36\00:27:13.46 Phipps did." He said this song was written 00:27:13.56\00:27:17.47 literally for him to deliver it in the way 00:27:17.60\00:27:20.84 that you did. We give God the credit, but 00:27:20.87\00:27:22.50 He blessed you with that ability. I'm glad 00:27:22.57\00:27:25.81 that you're using it for Him. Now, we 00:27:25.84\00:27:28.64 want to go to the next song. We'll 00:27:28.71\00:27:30.15 have you get ready in a moment to do 00:27:30.25\00:27:31.58 that. Yvonne, this is one of your- 00:27:31.61\00:27:34.02 tell us what he's getting ready to tell 00:27:34.05\00:27:35.38 us a little about this song. - Listen. 00:27:35.45\00:27:37.92 I listen to this song over and over 00:27:37.99\00:27:42.06 and over again. One day, I just had to call 00:27:42.12\00:27:44.46 brother Pastor Wintley and say, 00:27:44.56\00:27:46.70 "This song is just blessing me." I 00:27:46.73\00:27:49.00 made him promise that if I go to sleep 00:27:49.06\00:27:54.54 before the Lord comes that he will come and 00:27:54.60\00:27:56.81 sing this song for my memorial. This song 00:27:56.87\00:27:59.71 is just so beautiful. - And you know what 00:27:59.77\00:28:01.71 I told him; I said, "You'll outlive all 00:28:01.78\00:28:03.14 of us." - Well, I don't know about that. 00:28:03.21\00:28:06.18 Oh, this song blesses me. When my daddy 00:28:06.28\00:28:09.12 was sick, I played it for him in the 00:28:09.18\00:28:12.35 nursing home. This song is just a beautiful, 00:28:12.42\00:28:16.22 beautiful song. It ministers to my spirit. 00:28:16.26\00:28:19.26 - Great. Right now, you'll be blessed as 00:28:19.33\00:28:21.70 he sings, "No Need to Fear." 00:28:21.76\00:28:24.43 No need to fear when times of trouble come 00:28:50.16\00:28:58.23 Oppression storm beats at your door 00:28:58.33\00:29:07.88 No need to fear 00:29:08.28\00:29:14.48 No need to fear though evil seems so strong 00:29:17.15\00:29:26.03 Their pride and power is not for long 00:29:26.19\00:29:34.80 Be still, my soul 00:29:34.90\00:29:40.58 And trust in God 00:29:40.88\00:29:44.71 And place your life 00:29:45.15\00:29:49.62 Into His hands 00:29:49.78\00:29:53.56 For He will never, never fail you 00:29:53.99\00:30:03.03 And in the morning, you'll see His face 00:30:03.47\00:30:11.84 No need to fear... 00:30:12.27\00:30:16.51 Don't fear 00:30:17.01\00:30:24.69 No need to fear The envy and the scorn 00:30:30.69\00:30:39.30 Of those who boast in what they own 00:30:39.40\00:30:48.21 No need to fear 00:30:48.88\00:30:54.58 For what remains when life's brief day is done 00:30:55.18\00:31:03.63 Their glories are a setting sun 00:31:04.03\00:31:13.34 But as for me, of this, I'm sure 00:31:13.94\00:31:22.04 God will redeem 00:31:22.14\00:31:27.18 My soul from death 00:31:27.65\00:31:31.49 And He will never, never fail me 00:31:31.79\00:31:40.96 And in the morning, I'll see His face 00:31:41.33\00:31:51.07 And He will never fail you 00:32:12.79\00:32:21.87 No one can tell you from His love 00:32:22.00\00:32:31.05 And He will never forsake you 00:32:31.11\00:32:40.62 And in the morning 00:32:40.92\00:32:46.03 You'll see His face 00:32:46.13\00:32:51.83 No need to fear 00:32:52.97\00:32:58.64 Don't fear 00:33:00.68\00:33:10.29 - Amen. You happy now? - You know what? 00:33:20.50\00:33:23.23 I'm telling you! That song just ministers 00:33:23.33\00:33:26.47 so much to me. - Absolutely. Why 00:33:26.53\00:33:29.60 don't you give us, while he's coming back 00:33:29.67\00:33:31.47 here, sitting down, give us a list of 00:33:31.54\00:33:33.54 some of the songs. - Sure, sure. Okay, 00:33:33.58\00:33:35.98 "Glorious Church," "At the Cross," "Shall 00:33:36.08\00:33:39.05 We Gather at the River," "In Christ 00:33:39.11\00:33:41.08 Alone," "Crown Him with Many Crowns," 00:33:41.22\00:33:44.62 "Jesus Paid It All," "Softly and Tenderly," 00:33:44.69\00:33:47.69 "Old Rugged Cross," "This Is My Father's 00:33:47.79\00:33:50.69 World," "Jesus Is Coming Again," and 00:33:50.79\00:33:53.86 "No Need to Fear." - All right. - What 00:33:53.96\00:33:56.60 beautiful songs! - Aren't they? And 00:33:56.70\00:33:58.67 the orchestrations and all that's beautiful, 00:33:58.77\00:34:01.70 also. Pastor Phipps, when you do something, 00:34:01.77\00:34:06.57 you set your mind to it. You do it 00:34:06.68\00:34:08.24 quickly. It wasn't that long ago; it 00:34:08.31\00:34:10.75 seemed like a few days, but I guess it's 00:34:10.85\00:34:12.51 been a month or two- a couple months ago 00:34:12.58\00:34:14.62 that he called me and said, "Hey, I'm 00:34:14.68\00:34:16.89 thinking about doing this new project." 00:34:16.99\00:34:19.12 Invited him to do it here, put his vocals 00:34:19.19\00:34:21.59 on here, and it was like no time. Really cool. When 00:34:21.69\00:34:27.40 I do something like that, it takes me forever 00:34:27.50\00:34:29.00 to go in. He's like, "Well, we've got 00:34:29.10\00:34:30.53 it all done. We're ready now. We're 00:34:30.63\00:34:32.00 ready to mix it," and I'm like... "You didn't 00:34:32.10\00:34:34.00 even have time- are you kidding me?" 00:34:34.10\00:34:36.04 That's what happens when you don't have 00:34:36.14\00:34:38.14 to stop, make fixes; you have that voice 00:34:38.24\00:34:40.04 and it keeps going. Absolutely incredible. 00:34:40.14\00:34:44.28 Brand-new project by Pastor Phipps. We'll 00:34:44.38\00:34:46.82 tell you in a little bit how you may 00:34:46.92\00:34:48.25 get it; but right now, we want to go to 00:34:48.35\00:34:50.25 the next song. Tell us a little bit about 00:34:50.35\00:34:52.12 "Coming Again." - Well, I wrote this song 00:34:52.22\00:34:55.39 and placed at the end of it the great hymn, 00:34:55.49\00:34:58.59 "Jesus Is Coming Again." The first part of it 00:34:58.66\00:35:01.73 tells- the lyric, actually, is an angel 00:35:01.83\00:35:06.77 singing. The angel is singing to the 00:35:06.87\00:35:10.21 disciples. - And you wrote this. - Yes, I 00:35:10.31\00:35:12.94 wrote the first part. And the angel says, 00:35:13.04\00:35:15.14 "Why stand ye gazing there up into the 00:35:15.24\00:35:17.78 sky? Be not discouraged. We have brought good 00:35:17.85\00:35:21.12 news. The same Jesus that you see going 00:35:21.15\00:35:24.52 away, He will come again, and like manna." 00:35:24.62\00:35:27.36 Then we put the triumphant hymn at 00:35:27.46\00:35:30.16 the end of it, "Lift up the trumpet and 00:35:30.23\00:35:31.56 loud let it sing. Jesus is coming again." 00:35:31.63\00:35:33.60 It's been a blessing to be able to put that 00:35:35.40\00:35:38.87 perspective. I never see anybody talk 00:35:38.97\00:35:45.27 about the coming of Christ from the 00:35:45.37\00:35:47.91 perspective of the angels ministering 00:35:48.01\00:35:52.31 to the disciples, giving them this 00:35:52.41\00:35:56.18 great, great news that He's coming again. 00:35:56.25\00:35:58.82 - Absolutely. Well, we're going to have 00:35:58.92\00:36:01.32 to put on his list of accomplishments 00:36:01.36\00:36:03.56 now-songwriter, too. [laughter] 00:36:03.66\00:36:06.09 Have you written other songs? 00:36:06.19\00:36:07.50 - Oh, yes. I've written hundreds 00:36:07.66\00:36:09.80 of songs. Matter of fact- this has been 00:36:09.86\00:36:11.93 an interesting experience. I got 00:36:12.00\00:36:14.04 a call one day from, of all people, Aretha 00:36:14.14\00:36:17.01 Franklin. She said if I would come and 00:36:17.11\00:36:21.04 spend the afternoon with her. I said, 00:36:21.11\00:36:22.44 "Sure!" I love ministering to people 00:36:22.48\00:36:25.15 no matter where, you know? So I went, 00:36:25.21\00:36:26.85 and she sat down at the piano and 00:36:26.92\00:36:30.19 started playing songs that I had written 00:36:30.29\00:36:34.29 that she had heard. She was singing them 00:36:34.39\00:36:37.86 back to me. My, what an experience. She 00:36:37.93\00:36:41.80 said, "Remember me when you come-" 00:36:41.90\00:36:45.67 that's another song I wrote from the 00:36:45.73\00:36:48.04 perspective of the thief on the cross 00:36:48.10\00:36:49.74 saying, "Lord, remember me when You come into 00:36:49.84\00:36:52.87 Your kingdom," and she was singing that 00:36:52.94\00:36:54.58 to me! So, yes; I've written many songs 00:36:54.68\00:36:58.75 through the years. This song, with "Coming 00:36:58.85\00:37:02.78 Again" on the end of it, it's one of them. 00:37:02.85\00:37:04.75 - Well, what happened is, I recognize some 00:37:04.82\00:37:06.65 of those, but I didn't know you wrote them. 00:37:06.79\00:37:08.52 - Yeah! I didn't know he wrote "Remember 00:37:08.59\00:37:10.46 Me!" - So, he's not saying, "Hey, look 00:37:10.56\00:37:12.29 what I wrote!" or "Look what I did!" 00:37:12.36\00:37:13.83 He sings them, and I'm like, "Wow, those 00:37:13.93\00:37:15.33 are beautiful songs." But I heard this one, 00:37:15.43\00:37:17.73 the "Coming Again." It's a fabulous song. 00:37:17.80\00:37:20.94 Just was surprised that you wrote it; 00:37:21.00\00:37:23.71 not that you couldn't, but you didn't even 00:37:23.74\00:37:26.04 mention, "Well, hey, I wrote this song." 00:37:26.11\00:37:28.38 Anyway, we want you to do it in just a 00:37:28.48\00:37:31.51 moment, so, again- it's a brand-new 00:37:31.61\00:37:33.31 project (if you're just joining us), and 00:37:33.42\00:37:35.15 it's entitled "Glorious Church." Right now, 00:37:35.25\00:37:38.89 Wintley' s going to be singing-I think 00:37:38.99\00:37:40.89 it's a beautiful song- "Coming Again." 00:37:40.96\00:37:43.83 Why stand ye gazing there up into the sky? 00:38:20.13\00:38:29.90 Be not discouraged 00:38:31.21\00:38:36.44 For we have brought good news 00:38:37.05\00:38:42.35 This same Jesus whom we do magnify 00:38:43.39\00:38:53.26 Soon, He will come again for all to glorify 00:38:53.40\00:39:03.30 He is coming again 00:39:07.31\00:39:13.65 He is coming again 00:39:14.08\00:39:20.79 Son of the Father 00:39:21.22\00:39:26.59 He is coming again 00:39:26.96\00:39:32.60 On Calvary, He claimed my destiny 00:39:32.90\00:39:38.27 Lord, I humble myself 00:39:38.61\00:39:46.55 To Thee 00:39:48.85\00:39:57.33 Lord, I want to see Your face 00:39:58.69\00:40:03.83 Just help me be strong 00:40:04.30\00:40:10.07 I know You will return 00:40:11.27\00:40:16.61 I know it won't be long 00:40:16.95\00:40:22.88 He is coming again 00:40:23.65\00:40:29.86 He is coming again 00:40:29.99\00:40:36.40 Son of the Father 00:40:36.87\00:40:42.07 He is coming again 00:40:42.30\00:40:47.84 On calvary, He claimed my destiny 00:40:48.21\00:40:53.85 Lord, I humble myself 00:40:54.15\00:41:02.92 To Thee 00:41:04.33\00:41:09.26 Lift up the trumpet and loud let it ring 00:41:09.60\00:41:14.00 Jesus is coming again 00:41:14.34\00:41:18.57 Cheer up ye pilgrims 00:41:18.94\00:41:20.98 Be joyful and sing 00:41:21.08\00:41:23.31 Jesus is coming again 00:41:23.61\00:41:27.92 Coming again, coming again 00:41:28.18\00:41:32.29 Jesus is coming again 00:41:32.72\00:41:36.69 Coming again, coming again 00:41:36.83\00:41:41.40 Jesus is coming again 00:41:41.50\00:41:50.84 - Amen. - Wow. Isn't it great, the way it 00:41:52.61\00:41:54.88 tied those two songs together? I mean, 00:41:54.98\00:41:57.95 that's just... What a blessing. - I'm still- 00:41:58.01\00:42:01.55 I hadn't realized some of these songs 00:42:01.65\00:42:03.25 that, because he's never really- I've 00:42:03.28\00:42:05.82 known him for years, but he doesn't say, 00:42:05.89\00:42:07.56 "Hey, I wrote this song; I wrote that." I know 00:42:07.59\00:42:09.56 those songs, I just didn't really look to 00:42:09.62\00:42:11.53 see who wrote them. My hats off again. 00:42:11.59\00:42:14.36 He's always doing something, bringing 00:42:14.46\00:42:16.67 us something you didn't know before 00:42:16.73\00:42:18.37 after all these years. Wintley, it's great 00:42:18.47\00:42:21.34 having you here today, and I know 00:42:21.44\00:42:23.97 that it's a program; we could literally 00:42:24.07\00:42:27.04 talk to you for hours-some of your 00:42:27.14\00:42:29.08 experiences. And I know, because he 00:42:29.11\00:42:31.41 doesn't just name-drop. He's able to minister 00:42:31.51\00:42:35.35 to so many of these people that many of 00:42:35.48\00:42:37.82 us couldn't do, and God's opened that 00:42:37.89\00:42:40.02 door. That's a door. You've gone 00:42:40.12\00:42:43.12 through it, again, with integrity, 00:42:43.22\00:42:45.36 without compromising. You go through, and 00:42:45.46\00:42:48.23 when God opens that door, you minister 00:42:48.33\00:42:50.20 to these folk because everybody is a soul. 00:42:50.30\00:42:53.80 No soul's more important than the others, but 00:42:53.87\00:42:56.37 some of us can reach people here and some 00:42:56.47\00:42:58.81 reach there. God has opened up the door 00:42:58.87\00:43:01.41 for you to reach people that are 00:43:01.48\00:43:03.14 well-known. I know that some of the 00:43:03.24\00:43:05.38 folks and movie stars and secular music 00:43:05.45\00:43:09.45 and all of this- again, we talked about, in the 00:43:09.52\00:43:12.09 political arena, that God has opened those 00:43:12.15\00:43:14.49 doors. I'm thankful that you go there. 00:43:14.62\00:43:17.79 You've not compromised, but you lift up Jesus. 00:43:17.86\00:43:22.20 - Well, when I was, I guess in my 20s, 00:43:22.26\00:43:25.67 God gave me a quote- I believe it was from 00:43:25.70\00:43:30.07 Him-and I share it and I have been sharing 00:43:30.11\00:43:33.58 it with people all my ministry. You 00:43:33.68\00:43:37.75 don't have to compromise to be recognized. 00:43:37.85\00:43:40.68 - OK. That's good. - You don't have to 00:43:40.78\00:43:43.89 compromise to be recognized. I've 00:43:43.95\00:43:47.32 lived that story. I've tried my best to be 00:43:47.36\00:43:51.46 faithful. Music- the servant of God calls 00:43:51.56\00:43:56.30 it an "entering wedge." It is 00:43:56.40\00:43:58.93 a tool that God uses to get past people's 00:43:59.07\00:44:04.34 defenses, to get past many of the 00:44:04.41\00:44:09.21 hurdles that they put up. If you think 00:44:09.34\00:44:13.01 about it, just about all of us have a song 00:44:13.08\00:44:17.49 that we connect very closely to our conversion. 00:44:17.59\00:44:23.56 For everybody, it's different. For me, 00:44:23.66\00:44:29.03 I was a student of Kingsway College 00:44:29.10\00:44:32.17 back in 1971, '72. The kids were singing 00:44:32.30\00:44:39.37 a song back then, "It only takes a 00:44:39.47\00:44:43.71 spark to get a fire going, and that's 00:44:43.75\00:44:51.55 how it is with God's love once you've 00:44:51.62\00:44:55.16 experienced it. You want to sing; it's 00:44:55.26\00:44:58.86 fresh like spring. You want to pass it on." 00:44:58.93\00:45:03.87 Don't tell me you don't know that song. 00:45:05.23\00:45:07.14 - I don't. - Oh! Danny, you gotta 00:45:07.24\00:45:09.90 sing it to her. You gotta teach her that. 00:45:10.01\00:45:11.94 Well, she's a lot younger than we are. 00:45:13.98\00:45:16.31 - Oh, right. - Not really, but she 00:45:16.44\00:45:18.75 appreciates it. - Don't say that! [laughter] 00:45:18.88\00:45:21.92 - We gotta be truthful here. - So, back in 00:45:21.98\00:45:24.65 1971, '72, that was the song that touched 00:45:24.79\00:45:29.96 me. I associate that song with God's 00:45:30.03\00:45:34.36 Spirit and His power touching my life, 00:45:34.46\00:45:38.37 changing my life. One of the great 00:45:38.43\00:45:41.00 joys I've had is, the man who wrote 00:45:41.04\00:45:45.91 that song became a friend, and he actually 00:45:46.01\00:45:50.11 played on one of my early albums. His 00:45:50.21\00:45:53.08 name is Kurt Kaiser. Kurt Kaiser wrote 00:45:53.15\00:45:55.92 that song, so the joy of meeting the person 00:45:56.02\00:46:00.09 that wrote the song that God used to bring 00:46:00.12\00:46:03.89 you to Him... So, when people pick up 00:46:03.96\00:46:08.56 this CD and donate to the ministry-and some 00:46:08.63\00:46:11.53 people will purchase it, I'm sure-just think 00:46:11.60\00:46:15.57 that one of those songs may just 00:46:15.67\00:46:18.91 touch a person's heart in a way that you'll 00:46:19.01\00:46:22.08 see them in the kingdom of heaven 00:46:22.14\00:46:24.65 because of one of those songs. - And 00:46:24.71\00:46:27.52 watch this, now. Since our time is 00:46:27.62\00:46:29.45 about gone, because we're going to be 00:46:29.52\00:46:31.75 talking about God's amazing love- I'm 00:46:31.82\00:46:34.92 transitioning here to this- yeah, we're segueing 00:46:34.99\00:46:38.16 into the last... So why don't you 00:46:38.26\00:46:40.13 get ready. We do have time for one 00:46:40.20\00:46:42.23 more song. This is a beautiful song also. 00:46:42.30\00:46:44.63 And again, we'll put up an address 00:46:44.73\00:46:46.90 in a little bit so you can see how 00:46:46.94\00:46:48.40 you may purchase your own copies of Glorious 00:46:48.47\00:46:51.61 Church. Right now, "Amazing Love." 00:46:51.71\00:46:54.88 Amazing love How can it be 00:47:09.69\00:47:16.10 You broke the chains And set me free 00:47:16.70\00:47:22.40 You fill my life With joy untold 00:47:23.41\00:47:29.98 You light my spirit You feed my soul 00:47:30.35\00:47:36.69 Now, I want to let the whole world know 00:47:37.09\00:47:43.73 Of all You've done for me 00:47:43.83\00:47:50.03 I want to praise Your name 00:47:50.37\00:48:00.41 Amazing love How can it be 00:48:00.94\00:48:07.15 You sent Your Son to die for me 00:48:07.65\00:48:14.12 He took the blame, carried my shame 00:48:14.42\00:48:21.06 All the way to calvary 00:48:21.53\00:48:28.37 When I thought I was forever lost 00:48:28.60\00:48:35.34 You caught my falling soul 00:48:35.61\00:48:41.68 I want to love You more 00:48:41.95\00:48:49.79 Amazing love 00:48:54.56\00:49:00.70 Amazing love 00:49:01.37\00:49:06.44 Amazing, amazing love 00:49:08.24\00:49:17.85 Amazing love How can it be 00:49:19.85\00:49:25.96 You would give Your life for me 00:49:26.93\00:49:32.30 You bring such comfort to my soul 00:49:32.63\00:49:39.74 You raise me up and make me whole 00:49:40.18\00:49:47.22 Now, I want to let the whole world know 00:49:47.55\00:49:54.19 Of all You've done for me 00:49:54.56\00:50:01.06 I don't think I could ever, 00:50:01.40\00:50:07.54 ever love You more 00:50:07.60\00:50:14.44 Amazing love 00:50:14.78\00:50:20.32 Amazing love 00:50:20.78\00:50:27.96 Amazing love How can it be 00:50:29.06\00:50:35.33 Now, I'll live eternally 00:50:35.60\00:50:41.00 I once was lost 00:50:41.40\00:50:44.97 But now I'm found 00:50:45.37\00:50:48.74 I was blind, but now I see 00:50:49.08\00:50:55.32 And now, I am forever Yours 00:50:56.12\00:51:02.82 Soon, I'll see Your face 00:51:03.16\00:51:08.96 And I will love You more 00:51:09.23\00:51:18.77 Amazing love 00:51:19.14\00:51:26.35 Amazing love 00:51:26.72\00:51:33.62 Amazing love 00:51:33.99\00:51:41.90 Amazing love 00:51:42.26\00:51:51.77 - God's love is amazing. AMAZING love. Again, 00:51:55.24\00:51:59.51 the tone that Pastor Wintley has is just 00:51:59.58\00:52:02.82 so beautiful. It's such a gift. - And 00:52:02.85\00:52:06.42 music is a gift.
