Say that one more time. 00:06:14.80\00:06:16.54 Helping... 00:06:16.57\00:06:18.71 Helping Oppressed People Everywhere. 00:06:18.74\00:06:21.24 Okay. 00:06:21.28\00:06:22.61 And so it's more of an acronym rather than just the word. 00:06:22.64\00:06:24.81 Yes. Okay. 00:06:24.85\00:06:26.18 And so we've been very successful 00:06:26.21\00:06:29.48 in helping the homeless in Miami. 00:06:29.52\00:06:31.72 We have a triplex, 00:06:31.75\00:06:34.49 and then, we have people coming from, 00:06:34.52\00:06:36.19 we have different people from our organization 00:06:36.22\00:06:37.93 from our church 00:06:37.96\00:06:39.29 who are going through hard times 00:06:39.33\00:06:40.96 to come and live up to a year for free. 00:06:41.00\00:06:43.50 Wow. 00:06:43.57\00:06:44.90 So that's what we do 00:06:44.93\00:06:46.60 for the Hope Ministry Project Inc. 00:06:46.63\00:06:49.17 And also, we go to Miami, if we, Thanksgiving, Easter, 00:06:49.20\00:06:54.01 we pick up the homeless randomly, 00:06:54.08\00:06:56.51 take them to the Hope house, Miami and fellowship with them, 00:06:56.54\00:07:00.62 and give them a hot meal, a hot lunch meal. 00:07:00.65\00:07:03.69 And then in Christmas day, 00:07:03.72\00:07:05.22 we always go at the Broward Outreach Center 00:07:05.25\00:07:08.19 where we do the washing feet, 00:07:08.22\00:07:09.79 and everybody receive a pair of new sneakers 00:07:09.82\00:07:14.00 and socks in every gift, every gift to the residents. 00:07:14.03\00:07:18.50 And also, we provide meals for all do residents 00:07:18.53\00:07:22.00 at the Broward Outreach Center. 00:07:22.04\00:07:23.64 Not only that, but also we have Bible study twice a week 00:07:23.71\00:07:28.64 at the Broward Outreach Center. 00:07:28.68\00:07:30.45 Saturday evening, 6 to 7, 00:07:30.48\00:07:33.01 and Sunday, 9 to 10. 00:07:33.05\00:07:37.52 So it's been a very powerful ministry 00:07:37.59\00:07:39.49 because we have people who have been baptized 00:07:39.52\00:07:41.76 from that ministry from the shelter ministry, 00:07:41.79\00:07:44.79 and we have all the churches that are involved 00:07:44.83\00:07:47.96 and also going to get Bible study. 00:07:48.00\00:07:49.56 So Hope Ministry is more out showing to people 00:07:49.60\00:07:54.04 the love of God by doing service 00:07:54.07\00:07:57.01 and meet their needs. 00:07:57.04\00:07:58.37 That's what we are. Okay. 00:07:58.41\00:07:59.74 It's beautiful. Wow. 00:07:59.77\00:08:01.11 It's wonderful. 00:08:01.14\00:08:02.48 So the ministry started in Florida? 00:08:02.51\00:08:04.15 It started in Florida in 2005. 00:08:04.18\00:08:06.41 And I think the first time, we had food left over, 00:08:06.45\00:08:09.45 and we went to feed the people in Broward. 00:08:09.48\00:08:11.75 In Broward? 00:08:11.79\00:08:13.12 In Broward, and that's when we found out 00:08:13.15\00:08:14.59 there was a need for the people. 00:08:14.62\00:08:17.13 Hope Ministry feeds the forgotten, 00:08:17.16\00:08:20.03 the worst one, 00:08:20.10\00:08:21.43 those who cannot go on the shelter, 00:08:21.46\00:08:23.13 those who are on the street that people look down on them 00:08:23.16\00:08:25.10 like they were nobody, and that's where our love, 00:08:25.13\00:08:27.94 our compassion goes the most, to love the unloved, 00:08:27.97\00:08:32.17 to give to those who cannot give us back, 00:08:32.21\00:08:33.91 and to help those who cannot help us back. 00:08:33.98\00:08:35.54 Wow. So that's what it is. 00:08:35.58\00:08:37.95 But this ministry also extends to where you were born, 00:08:37.98\00:08:41.58 and that's what we're going to be highlighting today. 00:08:41.62\00:08:43.59 Yes. The Haiti project. 00:08:43.62\00:08:46.25 And tell us how that came about? 00:08:46.29\00:08:48.59 You know, it's always been in my heart. 00:08:48.62\00:08:52.23 I get to give back to my country. 00:08:52.26\00:08:54.56 So I did, I give back to America. 00:08:54.60\00:08:57.17 I thank God for being here in America, 00:08:57.20\00:08:58.90 so that's why we have the Hope Ministry Project Inc. 00:08:58.93\00:09:00.64 House, Miami. 00:09:00.67\00:09:02.00 But also, it was always in my heart 00:09:02.04\00:09:04.31 to do something for the less, the orphans in Haiti. 00:09:04.34\00:09:08.01 But it was not visible until now. 00:09:08.04\00:09:10.68 So we had a board member 00:09:10.75\00:09:13.35 that was living close to the orphanage 00:09:13.42\00:09:16.22 and worship at the church, 00:09:16.25\00:09:18.02 and he came to let us know about the children 00:09:18.05\00:09:20.26 that didn't have no food to eat, 00:09:20.29\00:09:22.06 and in what's was happening. 00:09:22.09\00:09:23.76 So that's how we came into. 00:09:23.83\00:09:25.19 We moved into action, 00:09:25.23\00:09:26.56 and I think that you can step in if you want. 00:09:26.59\00:09:29.90 So and in that dream, 00:09:29.93\00:09:32.33 that passion was somewhere in my heart hidden, 00:09:32.37\00:09:36.50 but God knew exactly when to bring it out. 00:09:36.54\00:09:38.71 Yes. 00:09:38.74\00:09:40.08 So it was like, we jump into opportunity, 00:09:40.11\00:09:43.04 you know, to do that. 00:09:43.08\00:09:44.45 When we went to Haiti, it was a life changing 00:09:44.48\00:09:48.38 because those children who never knew love, 00:09:48.42\00:09:51.69 who never had people to care for them, 00:09:51.72\00:09:54.06 and they give us so much love. 00:09:54.09\00:09:55.42 Wow. Amen. 00:09:55.46\00:09:56.79 So it's just amazing. 00:09:56.83\00:09:58.16 So we... 00:09:58.19\00:09:59.56 Now, our team, we put ourself on the line 00:09:59.59\00:10:02.76 to help these children, never to let them go anymore. 00:10:02.80\00:10:05.57 Correct. 00:10:05.60\00:10:06.94 Cliff wants to say something. Cliff. 00:10:06.97\00:10:08.64 I was just second what Jessie is saying, and that is, 00:10:08.67\00:10:13.88 when we went to Haiti, this my first time going, 00:10:13.91\00:10:18.41 it was such a powerful mission trip. 00:10:18.45\00:10:20.85 And to be honest with you, how I got into this 00:10:20.92\00:10:22.82 because Jessie came to me and asked me for assistance, 00:10:22.85\00:10:26.86 asked me for help, 00:10:26.89\00:10:28.36 and from time to time, 00:10:28.39\00:10:29.72 we've gone down to feed the homeless in Miami. 00:10:29.76\00:10:32.53 But this mission or this trip was, 00:10:32.56\00:10:37.37 it was life changing. 00:10:37.40\00:10:39.07 And to be honest with you, when I talked to Angie about... 00:10:39.10\00:10:43.14 When you and Angie went to India 00:10:43.17\00:10:46.91 as far as your mission trip, 00:10:46.98\00:10:48.78 she also told me, she told me beforehand 00:10:48.81\00:10:51.85 how life changing a mission trip can be, 00:10:51.88\00:10:55.45 and this. 00:10:55.48\00:10:56.82 And she was absolutely right. 00:10:56.89\00:10:59.79 This was a life changing trip if I ever seen one. 00:10:59.82\00:11:04.83 As we go on, we will begin to unfold 00:11:04.86\00:11:08.13 some of the activities 00:11:08.16\00:11:10.40 or some of the changes that has been taking place. 00:11:10.47\00:11:14.70 Glory to God for that. 00:11:14.74\00:11:16.07 Amen. 00:11:16.10\00:11:17.44 Before we go to the first video that introduces the ministry, 00:11:17.51\00:11:19.97 I want to give Courtney an opportunity 00:11:20.01\00:11:21.71 because you're community liaison. 00:11:21.74\00:11:23.58 Explain to us what that is? 00:11:23.65\00:11:25.95 I work with different members of the community 00:11:25.98\00:11:29.55 try and bring in additional folks 00:11:29.58\00:11:31.12 to give them opportunities to volunteer. 00:11:31.15\00:11:33.29 Obviously, it's an honor to be able to do God's work. 00:11:33.36\00:11:36.46 And so part of the benefit of Hope Ministry 00:11:36.49\00:11:38.66 besides that we feel that we're helping folks in need 00:11:38.69\00:11:41.23 as Jesse eloquently shared with us, 00:11:41.26\00:11:43.20 but we also give volunteer opportunities 00:11:43.23\00:11:44.83 to other folks as well to share those blessings. 00:11:44.87\00:11:48.20 And so part of my work as community liaison 00:11:48.24\00:11:51.41 is to bring in different folks, many of them Adventists, 00:11:51.44\00:11:54.61 many Christians, some non-Adventist as well 00:11:54.64\00:11:57.05 because the work that needs to be done 00:11:57.08\00:11:59.21 requires many of us, 00:11:59.25\00:12:00.62 and so we're looking to expand our reach 00:12:00.65\00:12:02.35 beyond the wonderful support that we have 00:12:02.38\00:12:03.99 from the Plantation Seventh-day Adventist Church. 00:12:04.02\00:12:07.36 But again, much work to be done 00:12:07.39\00:12:08.96 and we want to expand the folks 00:12:08.99\00:12:10.33 that are available to help with that. 00:12:10.36\00:12:12.43 That's wonderful. 00:12:12.46\00:12:13.80 What I'd like to do, honey, is 00:12:13.83\00:12:15.16 there's a video roll that we showed, 00:12:15.20\00:12:18.23 a kind of an introduction video role 00:12:18.27\00:12:20.34 to this particular trip that was taken in Haiti. 00:12:20.37\00:12:22.57 We're going to go to that right now, 00:12:22.60\00:12:24.11 and then we're going to come back, 00:12:24.14\00:12:25.47 and talk about what we've seen, 00:12:25.51\00:12:27.18 and then continue to build on that. 00:12:27.21\00:12:28.94 It's a beautiful country, beautiful people. 00:12:35.65\00:12:37.89 It's a natural beautiful place. 00:12:37.92\00:12:39.92 We're in the Caribbean, 00:12:39.95\00:12:41.56 we have crystal clear blue waters, 00:12:41.59\00:12:43.29 the wonderful beautiful mountains. 00:12:43.32\00:12:45.33 The beauty that is unparalleled. 00:12:45.36\00:12:48.00 The mountains, the ocean. 00:12:48.03\00:12:50.57 Going over Haiti and looking at the mountains 00:12:57.64\00:12:59.47 and then seeing what looked like 00:12:59.51\00:13:01.01 a bunch of trees have fallen over, 00:13:01.04\00:13:04.15 but then as we got closer and closer, 00:13:04.18\00:13:05.65 we realized that these were built homes, 00:13:05.68\00:13:08.08 and these were people that were living 00:13:08.12\00:13:09.75 in what looked like just torn down force 00:13:09.78\00:13:12.99 and my heart began to break even before I landed. 00:13:13.02\00:13:16.09 I've seen poor people. 00:13:16.12\00:13:18.46 I've seen, you know, I've been to Jamaica, 00:13:18.49\00:13:20.53 sand I've seen, you know, little places that, 00:13:20.60\00:13:23.70 you know, section that's poor, 00:13:23.77\00:13:27.04 and you know these people don't have anything. 00:13:27.07\00:13:29.34 But at the magnitude of this, I couldn't put a finger, 00:13:29.37\00:13:35.24 I really couldn't. 00:13:35.28\00:13:36.61 You couldn't sum it up in words. 00:13:36.64\00:13:38.88 It's just heartbreaking. 00:13:38.91\00:13:40.42 Lot of poverty, lot of crime, lot of hardship here. 00:13:40.45\00:13:43.39 The orphanage here was constructed 00:13:49.32\00:13:50.99 about 18 years ago. 00:13:51.03\00:13:52.49 It's the Seventh-day Adventist group, 00:13:52.53\00:13:54.43 and there's a church here on property as well 00:13:54.46\00:13:56.33 along with the orphanage with about 22 children. 00:13:56.36\00:13:58.93 The folks, the church that's helped to build it 00:13:58.97\00:14:01.80 were not able to continue to support it. 00:14:01.84\00:14:03.81 And so when we became aware of it, 00:14:03.84\00:14:05.54 they were really in a place of need, 00:14:05.57\00:14:07.21 just barely getting by. 00:14:07.28\00:14:10.35 Little things that we have. 00:14:10.38\00:14:11.91 Our kids really take so many things for granted. 00:14:11.95\00:14:15.48 The love that they gave us, 00:14:15.52\00:14:18.25 you know, just first meeting was, 00:14:18.29\00:14:22.99 it makes your eyes wet. 00:14:23.02\00:14:24.63 Young man, Henderson, has got to be 12 years old, 00:14:28.66\00:14:32.23 and immediately, first time out of the van, 00:14:32.27\00:14:34.24 he made a bee line right for me. 00:14:34.27\00:14:36.81 And he said in his best English, 00:14:36.84\00:14:40.48 "What's your name?" 00:14:40.51\00:14:41.84 And I said, "Ahkeem." 00:14:41.88\00:14:43.21 He said, "I am Henderson." 00:14:43.24\00:14:45.15 I said, "Hey, Henderson." 00:14:45.18\00:14:47.22 And so over the couple of days, 00:14:47.25\00:14:48.65 we, you know, just kind of talked to one another 00:14:48.68\00:14:50.99 as best we could, played basketball with him. 00:14:51.02\00:14:53.22 So yesterday, we walk up, and he's like, 00:14:53.25\00:14:55.29 "Hey, are you going to be my dad?" 00:14:55.32\00:14:59.23 So when I toured here on the first day, 00:15:09.64\00:15:12.57 and then I went back to my hotel, I just slumbered. 00:15:12.61\00:15:16.51 It's so hard to sleep on a comfy bed 00:15:16.54\00:15:18.68 when these children are sleeping on cots, 00:15:18.71\00:15:21.68 and they shower with a hose, and it's just very hard. 00:15:21.72\00:15:25.15 If anyone would have the opportunity to come here, 00:15:29.56\00:15:31.19 we would love them to join us some time, 00:15:31.23\00:15:32.69 but they will be appalled by the need. 00:15:32.73\00:15:34.60 We knew it was going to be difficult. 00:15:34.63\00:15:36.43 We knew that the orphanage had been run down. 00:15:36.46\00:15:38.53 We did not really understand 00:15:38.57\00:15:40.77 the way that physical facility has deteriorated. 00:15:40.84\00:15:43.20 The kids have been very well cared for. 00:15:57.19\00:15:58.65 Praise God. 00:15:58.69\00:16:00.06 Again, the team that's been doing that are, 00:16:00.09\00:16:01.42 they're saints. 00:16:01.46\00:16:02.79 The kids are clean. 00:16:02.82\00:16:04.16 They are fed as well as they can, 00:16:04.19\00:16:05.53 given the food that is available to them. 00:16:05.56\00:16:07.20 They are happy. 00:16:07.23\00:16:08.56 They do not have food insecurity issues. 00:16:08.60\00:16:11.60 When we share food, 00:16:11.63\00:16:12.97 the older kids give it to all the younger kids first 00:16:13.00\00:16:14.87 which is wonderful. 00:16:14.90\00:16:16.24 It says to us that people here really love them 00:16:16.27\00:16:18.01 and really cared for them. 00:16:18.04\00:16:19.41 And so we're thankful for those people. 00:16:19.44\00:16:20.81 But we definitely could use help. 00:16:20.88\00:16:22.74 Again, of any type, 00:16:22.78\00:16:24.15 but I would encourage folks to pray about it, 00:16:24.18\00:16:26.45 to look into their hearts, and to count their blessings 00:16:26.48\00:16:30.39 because the way people are living here, again, 00:16:30.42\00:16:32.29 we would find completely unacceptable at home. 00:16:32.32\00:16:34.89 Wow. 00:17:00.55\00:17:01.88 If that hasn't impacted you as it has us, 00:17:01.92\00:17:04.69 then you probably didn't see it. 00:17:04.72\00:17:06.59 It's amazing. 00:17:06.62\00:17:07.96 But what an amazing... 00:17:07.99\00:17:09.32 You know, as we've traveled around, honey, 00:17:09.36\00:17:10.76 you know, when you go to places like India, 00:17:10.83\00:17:13.90 and parts of South America, different parts of the world, 00:17:13.93\00:17:18.37 you begin to think, 00:17:18.40\00:17:19.73 "Well, it can't be that bad other places." 00:17:19.77\00:17:21.77 But then you look at 00:17:21.80\00:17:23.14 video and pictures like this and realize. 00:17:23.17\00:17:24.51 Yeah, it's sad. 00:17:24.54\00:17:25.87 And Haiti had an earthquake. 00:17:25.91\00:17:28.18 Oh, I forgot what year, 00:17:28.21\00:17:29.54 it was on my birthday, January 12th... 00:17:29.58\00:17:31.25 2010. In 2010. 00:17:31.28\00:17:33.62 And what devastation. 00:17:33.65\00:17:35.55 And, Courtney, you have a daughter 00:17:35.58\00:17:38.49 and your daughter celebrated her birthday in Haiti. 00:17:38.52\00:17:42.86 She did. 00:17:42.89\00:17:44.23 It was her birthday 00:17:44.26\00:17:45.59 when we were there for our trip, 00:17:45.63\00:17:47.00 and that was her in the video, 00:17:47.03\00:17:48.36 and she wanted very much to celebrate her birthday 00:17:48.40\00:17:50.77 with the orphans. 00:17:50.80\00:17:52.13 She wanted to bring cake in, 00:17:52.17\00:17:53.54 and share that celebration with her. 00:17:53.57\00:17:55.87 So her party was not thrown here 00:17:55.90\00:17:58.01 in the States in Miami. 00:17:58.04\00:17:59.37 It was thrown in Haiti, and yes, 00:17:59.41\00:18:01.91 it was a really fun thing to get to do there. 00:18:01.94\00:18:04.45 Very selfless. 00:18:04.48\00:18:05.98 Yes. And how old is she? 00:18:06.01\00:18:07.35 She is 12. Wow. 00:18:07.42\00:18:09.72 You know what's nice about allowing children at that age 00:18:09.75\00:18:12.32 to get involved in missions 00:18:12.35\00:18:14.06 is that when they come back home, 00:18:14.09\00:18:15.42 they have a whole lot less to complain about. 00:18:15.46\00:18:16.93 Yes. 00:18:16.96\00:18:18.29 And we've had that as experience. 00:18:18.33\00:18:19.66 When we were in Africa, you know, 00:18:19.69\00:18:21.03 a teenager had gone to mission trips every year, 00:18:21.06\00:18:22.40 and one year, 00:18:22.43\00:18:23.77 the family took her to Disney World, 00:18:23.80\00:18:25.13 and she said, 00:18:25.17\00:18:26.50 "The summer I hated the most 00:18:26.53\00:18:27.87 was when I was at Disney world." 00:18:27.90\00:18:29.24 She said, "Why?" 00:18:29.27\00:18:30.61 She said, "I need to be in Africa 00:18:30.64\00:18:31.97 doing something for people." 00:18:32.01\00:18:33.34 And that's what Hope is doing. 00:18:33.38\00:18:34.71 Give me the acronym again, Helping Oppressed People... 00:18:34.74\00:18:36.48 Everywhere. Everywhere. 00:18:36.51\00:18:37.85 Everywhere. 00:18:37.88\00:18:39.21 That is, so it's not just, if the Lord opens doors for you 00:18:39.25\00:18:41.32 to go other places, you go there too, 00:18:41.35\00:18:43.39 but Haiti has a special place in your heart. 00:18:43.42\00:18:46.25 How did you get that home in Haiti? 00:18:46.29\00:18:49.39 Like she said, Courtney said, it was built in 2000, 00:18:49.42\00:18:53.50 and about 7 years ago, there ran out of food. 00:18:53.53\00:18:57.60 This place cost us about 00:18:57.63\00:18:58.97 half a million dollars to build. 00:18:59.00\00:19:00.34 That's why I told you earlier, it would be impossible for me 00:19:00.37\00:19:02.84 to have an orphanage in Haiti 00:19:02.87\00:19:04.51 because with that kind of money, the land, 00:19:04.54\00:19:06.71 but God made it possible. 00:19:06.78\00:19:08.11 So money that was coming to that orphanage stopped, 00:19:08.14\00:19:10.78 didn't have any more help. 00:19:10.85\00:19:12.35 So now this is all we came about to know about it, 00:19:12.38\00:19:15.92 and then we step in by faith. 00:19:15.95\00:19:17.59 Wow. By faith, we step in. 00:19:17.62\00:19:20.06 And so it's a big place, it's really big, 00:19:20.09\00:19:24.89 and so there was no way if it was not God 00:19:24.93\00:19:29.60 to be able to have this property. 00:19:29.63\00:19:33.94 This is why there you can see the footstep of God in the end, 00:19:33.97\00:19:38.37 you know? 00:19:38.41\00:19:39.74 And so because money stopped coming, 00:19:39.77\00:19:42.28 that's why we were able to take over, 00:19:42.31\00:19:44.38 and to take care of the management 00:19:44.41\00:19:46.58 for the children. 00:19:46.61\00:19:47.95 How many children? 00:19:47.98\00:19:49.32 We have 23 children, and five staff. 00:19:49.35\00:19:51.32 Five staff. 00:19:51.35\00:19:52.69 Yeah, people working. Yes. 00:19:52.72\00:19:54.16 As Jessie said, it was really a wonderful project 00:19:54.19\00:19:55.99 when it was built. 00:19:56.02\00:19:57.36 Over half a million dollars to build. 00:19:57.43\00:19:59.36 They had everything they needed, 00:19:59.39\00:20:00.73 they had a commercial bakery to raise funds, 00:20:00.80\00:20:03.30 to be self-supporting. 00:20:03.37\00:20:05.30 It was very, very well done. 00:20:05.33\00:20:06.74 The problem was over time, as they lost their funding, 00:20:06.77\00:20:10.21 they had to begin to sell off equipment. 00:20:10.24\00:20:12.24 So they had solar panels, 00:20:12.27\00:20:13.68 they had to sell those for food, 00:20:13.71\00:20:15.21 the bakery items. 00:20:15.24\00:20:17.05 When we became involved, 00:20:17.08\00:20:18.68 they didn't have utensils or plates. 00:20:18.71\00:20:20.32 Last year, we had to send down plates. 00:20:20.35\00:20:22.42 So they went from being well-staffed, well-funded 00:20:22.45\00:20:25.72 to truly barely subsisting when we became involved. 00:20:25.75\00:20:29.46 So it was wonderfully done, but a shame that the support, 00:20:29.49\00:20:34.60 the church supporting that was not able to continue. 00:20:34.63\00:20:37.27 And so when we came in, 00:20:37.30\00:20:38.63 we did not actually have the funds 00:20:38.67\00:20:40.44 prepared to be able to help, but as Jessie said, 00:20:40.47\00:20:42.60 we had to step out in faith 00:20:42.64\00:20:44.21 because the need was so great, you could not turn away. 00:20:44.24\00:20:47.28 Wow. 00:20:47.31\00:20:48.64 It was amazing. Cliff? 00:20:48.68\00:20:50.01 But also we have to keep in mind that 00:20:50.05\00:20:51.51 this orphanage is located on Adventist property. 00:20:51.55\00:20:55.55 There's an Adventist Church on that property. 00:20:55.58\00:20:58.99 But there was another church running the orphanage, 00:20:59.02\00:21:02.59 and unfortunately, 00:21:02.62\00:21:03.96 things didn't work out there too well. 00:21:04.03\00:21:05.46 So they end up, 00:21:05.49\00:21:09.33 one thing led to another, and they end up, 00:21:09.36\00:21:12.93 I believe, selling the batteries 00:21:12.97\00:21:14.37 to get to buy food. 00:21:14.40\00:21:16.91 The batteries for the electricity 00:21:16.94\00:21:18.47 which of course is the solar panels. 00:21:18.51\00:21:21.54 And so they end up selling those to buy food 00:21:21.58\00:21:25.28 which means they had no electricity. 00:21:25.31\00:21:27.35 So we... 00:21:27.42\00:21:28.75 Well, Jessie bought it to all of our attention and we, 00:21:28.78\00:21:32.82 through God's help, stepped in, 00:21:32.85\00:21:34.39 and tried to help in any way we can. 00:21:34.42\00:21:38.59 You know, the amazing thing about it is 00:21:38.63\00:21:40.63 the building was there. 00:21:40.70\00:21:42.40 Yeah. 00:21:42.43\00:21:43.77 And if you had to say, 00:21:43.80\00:21:45.13 "Well, let's build a building in Haiti." 00:21:45.17\00:21:46.63 "How much?" "Half a million dollars." 00:21:46.67\00:21:49.00 You would say, 00:21:49.04\00:21:50.41 "Hey, we just are basic people here. 00:21:50.44\00:21:52.17 We're not doing that." 00:21:52.21\00:21:53.58 But that shows you how the Lord provides. 00:21:53.61\00:21:54.94 Yeah. 00:21:54.98\00:21:56.31 And so now, right, the church is not far away, 00:21:56.34\00:21:58.38 now you have this building. 00:21:58.41\00:21:59.75 So as you pointed out, Courtney, 00:21:59.78\00:22:02.38 the building is still there, the framework is good, 00:22:02.42\00:22:05.45 it's a good structure. 00:22:05.49\00:22:06.86 Now it has to be refurbished, brought back up to standards. 00:22:06.89\00:22:11.06 Talk about some of the conditions 00:22:11.09\00:22:12.43 because you mentioned they had to sell the panels, 00:22:12.46\00:22:15.33 then they sold the batteries, 00:22:15.36\00:22:17.47 then they had to sell some of the appliances, 00:22:17.50\00:22:20.04 and all this was just to eat. 00:22:20.07\00:22:22.30 And that shouldn't be the thing, 00:22:22.34\00:22:23.71 and we're going to talk about in a moment 00:22:23.74\00:22:25.07 how to bring that back up 00:22:25.11\00:22:26.44 because we talk about the amount of meals 00:22:26.47\00:22:27.81 they used to have compared to now. 00:22:27.84\00:22:29.41 But let's talk about some of those things, 00:22:29.44\00:22:30.95 those needs that are there. 00:22:30.98\00:22:32.31 And what are some of the things you see there 00:22:32.35\00:22:33.72 are in need in that building? 00:22:33.75\00:22:35.28 Absolutely, John. 00:22:35.32\00:22:36.69 As we shared in the video, when we arrived, 00:22:36.72\00:22:38.65 there was no electricity, there was no running water. 00:22:38.69\00:22:42.62 Occasionally, once or twice a month, 00:22:42.66\00:22:44.96 when there was power, 00:22:44.99\00:22:46.33 they would pump water out of their well, 00:22:46.36\00:22:48.56 hold it in a storage facility that was not covered, 00:22:48.60\00:22:51.33 and then bathe with a hose. 00:22:51.37\00:22:53.54 So there were bathrooms and showers 00:22:53.57\00:22:55.74 that were not functional. 00:22:55.77\00:22:57.11 You can see that the property was dilapidated. 00:22:59.01\00:23:01.21 You know, it needed to be painted, 00:23:01.24\00:23:02.58 there were some security issues that we needed to resolve. 00:23:02.61\00:23:05.75 Food, as we already shared was a real problem 00:23:05.78\00:23:08.75 that the kids were eating poor quality canned fish, 00:23:08.78\00:23:14.16 not enough fresh vegetables, those types of things 00:23:14.19\00:23:16.83 because they were truly living hand to mouth. 00:23:16.86\00:23:19.39 Everything of value had been sold 00:23:19.43\00:23:21.73 when we came including utensils. 00:23:21.76\00:23:23.77 They don't own the bowls 00:23:23.80\00:23:25.27 that they were preparing the food, 00:23:25.30\00:23:26.77 and there's no refrigeration, since there's no electricity. 00:23:26.84\00:23:29.70 So every meal for roughly 30 people, 00:23:29.74\00:23:32.57 every day, is prepared, someone goes out, 00:23:32.61\00:23:34.71 and purchases the food, and prepares only that meal. 00:23:34.74\00:23:37.28 There's no ability to cook ahead 00:23:37.35\00:23:39.18 or plan or purchase food in bulk or store food. 00:23:39.21\00:23:42.95 So just truly barely getting by when we arrived. 00:23:42.98\00:23:47.59 Yeah. Wow. 00:23:47.66\00:23:48.99 And you think about it, Haiti is not that far away. 00:23:49.02\00:23:51.16 No. 00:23:51.19\00:23:52.53 When you think about the population of, 00:23:52.56\00:23:54.10 you know, people that have means, 00:23:54.13\00:23:56.70 we're not talking about, you know, 00:23:56.77\00:23:58.70 15,000 miles away or 11,000 miles away, 00:23:58.73\00:24:01.14 we're talking right here in the Caribbean 00:24:01.17\00:24:03.04 within the belt of a lot of provision. 00:24:03.07\00:24:06.88 But it's just, like, it's just been overlooked, 00:24:06.91\00:24:09.14 and Haiti is not a new place, 00:24:09.18\00:24:10.55 it has gone through quite a bit of challenges, 00:24:10.58\00:24:11.91 you know, the earthquakes, poverty, government structure, 00:24:11.95\00:24:14.98 all these types of things. 00:24:15.02\00:24:16.62 But the Lord has given you an opportunity 00:24:16.69\00:24:18.19 to step in there. 00:24:18.22\00:24:19.55 Amen. 00:24:19.59\00:24:20.96 Also, in Haiti, you know, when you are poor, 00:24:20.99\00:24:25.16 you are poor forever. 00:24:25.19\00:24:26.70 And then when you are wealthy, you are wealthy forever. 00:24:26.73\00:24:28.93 Wow. There was no middle ground. 00:24:28.96\00:24:30.97 And in Haiti, you know, 00:24:31.00\00:24:32.90 I've been visiting for a long time, 00:24:32.93\00:24:34.64 you know, my husband used to live there, 00:24:34.67\00:24:37.11 I always like to help the children 00:24:37.14\00:24:39.44 because they are the ones sufferings. 00:24:39.47\00:24:41.34 They didn't ask to be born, 00:24:41.38\00:24:43.08 and somebody brought them into life. 00:24:43.11\00:24:45.71 They need to have the very basic of living. 00:24:45.75\00:24:48.25 Amen. 00:24:48.28\00:24:49.62 So when we went there, there was none of that. 00:24:49.65\00:24:52.75 No one who wanted, 00:24:52.79\00:24:54.16 like she said, there was no electricity. 00:24:54.19\00:24:55.52 How come you are going to have a child 00:24:55.56\00:24:56.89 sleeping in the dark? 00:24:56.93\00:24:58.76 Going to school, wake up in the dark again. 00:24:58.79\00:25:01.03 This is really basic. 00:25:01.06\00:25:02.40 No one in water, the water is away there 00:25:02.43\00:25:04.17 making mosquitoes. 00:25:04.20\00:25:06.00 So, you know, no drinking water. 00:25:06.03\00:25:08.50 What kind of life is this? 00:25:08.54\00:25:10.01 Wow. 00:25:10.04\00:25:11.37 We had... 00:25:11.41\00:25:12.74 Our heart was broken. Of course. 00:25:12.77\00:25:14.51 And we had to prioritize to give them the very basic. 00:25:14.54\00:25:18.68 Food was cost, we had to give them, 00:25:18.71\00:25:21.08 make plans to have them good food for them. 00:25:21.12\00:25:23.69 It was unbelievable. 00:25:23.72\00:25:25.55 But like we said, we moved into that by faith. 00:25:25.59\00:25:29.39 And that's what is hard with Haiti. 00:25:29.42\00:25:31.66 They don't have a system to help the poor. 00:25:31.69\00:25:36.77 Everybody's about their own. 00:25:36.80\00:25:39.43 So I think that's the calling for you and I 00:25:39.47\00:25:42.57 to do that, to bring love to this people, 00:25:42.60\00:25:45.41 compassion, and give them a reason to live. 00:25:45.44\00:25:48.61 That's right. That's the work of us to do. 00:25:48.64\00:25:53.05 Now how do you feed them spiritually? 00:25:53.08\00:25:56.45 They have a church in property, and they have a lady, 00:25:56.48\00:25:59.39 they call her, they have a lady on property that study, 00:25:59.42\00:26:02.12 do Bible study with them. 00:26:02.16\00:26:03.53 Oh, good. 00:26:03.56\00:26:04.89 So as a matter of fact, in the upcoming trip, 00:26:04.93\00:26:06.53 we're going to have baptism with these children. 00:26:06.56\00:26:10.07 And to show you, how powerful it is 00:26:10.10\00:26:11.97 when you try to help because of the... 00:26:12.00\00:26:15.17 We provide you solar panels, they have electricity, 00:26:15.20\00:26:18.34 and they have water, 00:26:18.37\00:26:19.71 they are able to reach the community. 00:26:19.74\00:26:22.14 So they have the solar panels now? 00:26:22.18\00:26:24.28 They have the solar panels. Wonderful. 00:26:24.31\00:26:25.88 You know, and they have the batteries. 00:26:25.91\00:26:28.08 The batteries. Yes. 00:26:28.12\00:26:29.45 And then what happened is that 00:26:29.48\00:26:31.69 they were able to bring water to the hose, to the community. 00:26:31.72\00:26:35.72 So now, we are reaching out the community 00:26:35.76\00:26:37.96 by giving them drinking water. 00:26:37.99\00:26:39.93 That is so powerful. Wow. 00:26:40.00\00:26:41.36 This is the really basic that God teaches us to do. 00:26:41.40\00:26:44.63 By showing love, by meeting the people's needs, 00:26:44.67\00:26:47.37 then the gospel will be preached. 00:26:47.44\00:26:49.90 You know, Matthew 28, says... 00:26:49.94\00:26:51.34 Oh, Matthew 25, 00:26:51.37\00:26:52.71 When did you see a stranger and take him in, 00:26:52.74\00:26:54.51 or naked and clothe them? 00:26:54.54\00:26:56.31 Or when did you see the sick, or in prison, and come to them? 00:26:56.34\00:26:59.38 Or those who were thirsty and feed 00:26:59.41\00:27:01.05 and those who needed water and you gave them water?" 00:27:01.08\00:27:03.92 This is the real. 00:27:03.99\00:27:05.32 That's the examination of the return of Christ. 00:27:05.35\00:27:08.06 "When did you see?" 00:27:08.09\00:27:09.59 "And as much as you've done it, to the least of these 00:27:09.62\00:27:11.13 you've done it to me." 00:27:11.16\00:27:12.49 I want to walk through some of these pictures 00:27:12.53\00:27:14.00 and explain to us what we're watching, 00:27:14.03\00:27:15.36 what we're seeing here. 00:27:15.40\00:27:16.77 Okay. 00:27:16.80\00:27:19.03 Talk about this picture? 00:27:19.07\00:27:20.44 Well, this picture, 00:27:20.47\00:27:22.60 as I'm walking through the orphanage, 00:27:22.64\00:27:25.77 I took a look, and I turned around, 00:27:25.81\00:27:28.08 I saw these two children. 00:27:28.11\00:27:30.08 And I immediately snapped that picture 00:27:30.15\00:27:32.38 just because they were just there, 00:27:32.41\00:27:35.68 and they just look so in need of attention and love. 00:27:35.72\00:27:40.56 As a matter of fact, one of them... 00:27:40.59\00:27:43.22 It was so bad, they had no Pampers. 00:27:43.26\00:27:46.56 A what? Pampers. 00:27:46.59\00:27:47.93 No Pampers? No Pampers. 00:27:47.96\00:27:49.33 What's the age? 00:27:49.36\00:27:50.70 They were not party trained. 00:27:50.77\00:27:52.13 Well, at least that one wasn't. About two. 00:27:52.17\00:27:53.94 They were about two years old at that time, yes. 00:27:53.97\00:27:56.17 And no parents? 00:27:56.20\00:27:57.54 No. No. 00:27:57.61\00:27:58.94 As a matter of fact, there was one incident where... 00:27:58.97\00:28:02.68 This, I was told when I was there. 00:28:02.71\00:28:05.71 One of the ladies was sitting in a car in traffic, 00:28:05.75\00:28:09.05 and this woman came up to her and just gave her this baby 00:28:09.08\00:28:13.86 as she's sitting in traffic. 00:28:13.89\00:28:15.26 And said, "I cannot take care of her anymore. 00:28:15.29\00:28:17.76 But because you're in a vehicle, you're in a car, 00:28:17.79\00:28:20.93 I believe you can give her a better life than I can, " 00:28:20.96\00:28:23.87 and left. 00:28:23.90\00:28:25.40 And so that was heartbreaking when you really look at that. 00:28:25.43\00:28:30.11 And these are just some of the examples 00:28:30.14\00:28:32.84 of some of the stories that are there. 00:28:32.87\00:28:35.81 And what else do we have as far as photos are concerned? 00:28:35.84\00:28:37.88 Well, what is that? 00:28:37.91\00:28:39.25 Well, this was what we saw as far as the pipes, 00:28:39.28\00:28:43.99 no running water, as we mentioned earlier. 00:28:44.02\00:28:46.42 And we saw there were toilets 00:28:46.45\00:28:49.66 that had no toilet seats, 00:28:49.69\00:28:53.26 shower curtains with no shower, with no... 00:28:53.29\00:28:55.63 Sorry. 00:28:55.66\00:28:57.47 We had showers but no shower curtains. 00:28:57.50\00:29:00.24 So we just saw a dilapidated condition. 00:29:00.27\00:29:04.84 We saw where it was just 00:29:04.87\00:29:08.91 really nothing was really being... 00:29:08.94\00:29:12.98 There was no function to anything. 00:29:13.01\00:29:16.32 And I would add to that what was... 00:29:16.35\00:29:18.92 Besides seeing the conditions they were living in, 00:29:18.95\00:29:20.86 and how difficult that is, 00:29:20.89\00:29:22.29 what was hard is you could see the bones of the project 00:29:22.32\00:29:24.86 and that it had been an amazing project. 00:29:24.89\00:29:27.23 And these children have lived there 00:29:27.30\00:29:29.13 as the property grows into disrepair, 00:29:29.16\00:29:32.40 that it's their hope fading. 00:29:32.43\00:29:35.64 You see where you live, your home, 00:29:35.67\00:29:38.07 your meals get smaller and more worn down. 00:29:38.11\00:29:41.38 You see your own circumstances changing 00:29:41.41\00:29:43.85 in the course of even some of their very short lives, 00:29:43.88\00:29:46.45 and that that was heartbreaking to see as well. 00:29:46.48\00:29:49.22 So when we arrived 00:29:49.25\00:29:50.79 and their faces were joyful and loving, 00:29:50.82\00:29:53.49 and there as Jessie said, 00:29:53.56\00:29:54.99 that the love is unbelievable given their life. 00:29:55.02\00:29:57.66 They want to hug you, they want to hold your hand, 00:29:57.69\00:29:59.49 they want to walk around with you. 00:29:59.53\00:30:01.16 It was just... 00:30:01.20\00:30:02.53 It was a very moving experience, 00:30:02.56\00:30:03.90 both from an understanding 00:30:03.97\00:30:05.43 of the circumstances they were living in 00:30:05.47\00:30:07.44 and then conversely the love 00:30:07.47\00:30:08.87 that was spilling out of them was really amazing to see. 00:30:08.90\00:30:12.17 Well, let's see another picture, 00:30:12.21\00:30:13.58 I think, for this... 00:30:13.61\00:30:15.08 What do we have here? What is that? 00:30:15.11\00:30:16.44 This was one of the batteries that was installed 00:30:16.48\00:30:19.71 on the second missionary trip that, 00:30:19.75\00:30:21.85 I believe Jessie went back. 00:30:21.88\00:30:25.29 Once we went on the first mission trip 00:30:25.32\00:30:27.06 and we took an assessment for, 00:30:27.09\00:30:29.09 you know, for our church, 00:30:29.12\00:30:30.46 Plantation Seventh-day Adventist Church, 00:30:30.53\00:30:32.06 and through some of their donations, 00:30:32.09\00:30:35.30 we were able to get batteries installed 00:30:35.33\00:30:38.90 and we were able to get the solar panels installed, 00:30:38.93\00:30:42.97 and we were able to get the electricity up 00:30:43.00\00:30:44.81 and running on the second trip. 00:30:44.84\00:30:48.18 So we were... 00:30:48.21\00:30:49.54 What you saw there was just one of the individuals 00:30:49.58\00:30:52.78 that was installing the batteries. 00:30:52.81\00:30:54.55 Now I know you like your daughter 00:30:54.58\00:30:56.35 to get involved in mission trips. 00:30:56.38\00:30:57.72 Yes. 00:30:57.75\00:30:59.09 Are you going to take Ashley down? 00:30:59.12\00:31:00.46 He need to. I'm hoping to take Ashley down. 00:31:00.49\00:31:01.86 There is no question because she wants to go, 00:31:01.89\00:31:06.70 so I'm hoping we can do that in near future. 00:31:06.73\00:31:09.56 You know, what I want to do is show the second video 00:31:09.60\00:31:11.47 because this is really important. 00:31:11.50\00:31:12.87 Yeah. 00:31:12.90\00:31:14.24 Let's look at the second video that was pertaining 00:31:14.27\00:31:15.84 to this particular trip that you all were on 00:31:15.87\00:31:18.64 and then we'll come back for more commentary. 00:31:18.67\00:31:20.58 Okay. 00:31:20.61\00:31:21.94 The greatest need right now is power 00:31:35.62\00:31:40.10 because power is going to help them do many things. 00:31:40.13\00:31:43.97 Power will allow them to refrigerate food, cook food, 00:31:44.00\00:31:48.74 probably sell food that they can make. 00:31:48.77\00:31:51.21 And it's going to allow them to get water flowing, 00:31:51.24\00:31:56.21 you know, evenly and freely throughout the place. 00:31:56.24\00:31:59.71 We need this orphanage to be somewhat self-sufficient. 00:31:59.75\00:32:04.72 With the solar, 00:32:04.75\00:32:06.96 it provides the electricity needed for it, 00:32:06.99\00:32:10.03 for instance, for the bakery, for the oven, 00:32:10.06\00:32:14.40 for the... 00:32:14.43\00:32:16.56 Just for the lighting. 00:32:16.60\00:32:18.83 We need to have ceiling fans to cool everything down. 00:32:18.87\00:32:23.17 We need light switches. 00:32:23.20\00:32:24.84 We need so much for this orphanage. 00:32:24.87\00:32:27.51 It is unbelievable the need. 00:32:27.58\00:32:30.48 First and foremost, prayer, prayer for the children here, 00:32:30.55\00:32:33.82 for the people who have not abandoned them, 00:32:33.85\00:32:35.95 and who stayed here to continue to help them 00:32:35.98\00:32:38.32 despite the fact that their funding was cut off. 00:32:38.35\00:32:42.79 Second, we can use all kinds of help, 00:32:42.82\00:32:44.73 obviously monetary donations are at the top 00:32:44.76\00:32:47.30 because a lot of things are best done in country, 00:32:47.33\00:32:49.43 a lot of things here are better to be purchased 00:32:49.46\00:32:51.00 as opposed to us shipping them from the States. 00:32:51.03\00:32:52.70 We need to start with security 00:32:52.73\00:32:54.07 so that any other improvements we do make here are protected. 00:32:54.14\00:32:57.91 Food is next for the children, healthier meals, 00:32:57.94\00:33:01.21 appropriate utensils, appropriate kitchen. 00:33:01.24\00:33:04.25 Then probably next would be water, 00:33:04.28\00:33:07.52 solving some of their water issues, plumbing, 00:33:07.55\00:33:10.32 and also solar panels 00:33:10.39\00:33:11.82 so that they can have electricity. 00:33:11.85\00:33:13.19 Right now, there's no electricity here. 00:33:13.22\00:33:14.56 Even if the donations come in 00:33:21.30\00:33:23.50 and we throw tons of resources and money at this stuff, 00:33:23.57\00:33:27.34 if we don't have boots on the ground here 00:33:27.37\00:33:29.37 to make sure that this stuff goes 00:33:29.40\00:33:32.21 where it's supposed to go, 00:33:32.24\00:33:33.91 in the direction that we believe, 00:33:33.98\00:33:36.48 and the values that we have are enacted, 00:33:36.51\00:33:40.62 we can get batteries, 00:33:40.65\00:33:42.85 but they'll be gone when the need arises. 00:33:42.88\00:33:45.32 And so we've looked at hiring a managing director here 00:33:45.35\00:33:50.46 so that we can have accountability 00:33:50.53\00:33:53.26 for all of the efforts that are taking place. 00:33:53.29\00:33:56.30 I think that is so needed because everything else, 00:33:56.33\00:33:59.03 all of the other things that are going to come in, 00:33:59.07\00:34:01.64 will now go through 00:34:01.67\00:34:03.00 the accountability of that manager, 00:34:03.04\00:34:04.37 and so I was thankful to be able to interview 00:34:04.41\00:34:05.97 and really get a sense of the heart 00:34:06.01\00:34:07.94 of the managing director here 00:34:07.98\00:34:10.35 and know that he's aimed at first. 00:34:10.38\00:34:13.42 And the first thing he said was, 00:34:13.45\00:34:14.78 "I love the kids," right? 00:34:14.82\00:34:16.58 And he has a passion for that. 00:34:16.62\00:34:17.95 So that's the first thing, 00:34:17.99\00:34:20.26 making sure you've got someone in place 00:34:20.29\00:34:21.99 that's going to be able to manage 00:34:22.02\00:34:24.23 what we're going to be committing to as a church. 00:34:24.26\00:34:28.00 But in terms of physical needs, it is absolutely the basics. 00:34:28.03\00:34:31.77 It's get electricity in here, get portable water... 00:34:31.80\00:34:36.94 addressed security. 00:34:39.04\00:34:41.38 Make sure they have a place to experience God. 00:34:41.41\00:34:44.95 This is groundbreaking. We're not here by chance. 00:34:47.88\00:34:51.02 This is destiny. We have to do something. 00:34:51.05\00:34:53.46 It's good to sit in your pews and say, 00:34:53.49\00:34:55.89 "Yeah. Yeah. I had served today." 00:34:55.92\00:34:58.36 But to actually get out and do something, 00:34:58.39\00:35:02.63 that's where God is because before coming here... 00:35:02.66\00:35:08.10 And this is my first time coming to Haiti. 00:35:08.14\00:35:12.14 Before coming here, I didn't know what to think. 00:35:12.17\00:35:14.81 I mean, I have a lot of friends at home that are Asian, 00:35:14.84\00:35:17.65 and they tell stories, 00:35:17.68\00:35:19.01 but their stories cannot match what I've seen 00:35:19.05\00:35:24.19 since I've been here. 00:35:24.22\00:35:25.55 What a powerful video, huh? Yeah I'm ready to go to Haiti. 00:35:49.44\00:35:53.25 I'm ready to go and help. That's right. 00:35:53.28\00:35:54.78 And you? I'm ready. 00:35:54.82\00:35:57.29 I mean, can you... This is... 00:35:57.32\00:35:59.65 We have so much here in America. 00:35:59.69\00:36:01.06 So much. 00:36:01.09\00:36:02.72 We personally have so much here in America that... 00:36:02.76\00:36:04.76 Let me ask a question. 00:36:04.79\00:36:06.13 And we're going to just... 00:36:06.16\00:36:07.50 Before we go to the questions, 00:36:07.53\00:36:08.86 we're going to just introduce our new panelists. 00:36:08.90\00:36:10.27 Yeah. Saada Aboubaker. 00:36:10.30\00:36:11.63 Good to have you, Saada. 00:36:11.67\00:36:13.27 Yes. Yes. 00:36:13.34\00:36:14.67 Tell us about yourself briefly? 00:36:14.70\00:36:16.64 I live in Fort Lauderdale. 00:36:16.71\00:36:18.31 I'm in commercial real estate. 00:36:18.34\00:36:19.94 And I also have a daughter who's nine, Xena. 00:36:19.97\00:36:22.91 Okay. 00:36:22.94\00:36:24.28 Has she gone to Haiti? 00:36:24.31\00:36:25.71 She was on the second trip with us. 00:36:25.75\00:36:27.68 Wow. Yes. 00:36:27.72\00:36:29.15 And she replaced your brother? 00:36:29.18\00:36:30.52 Yeah, which is fine with me. 00:36:30.59\00:36:33.69 Cliff is not here any longer. 00:36:33.76\00:36:35.56 But, yeah, I tell you... 00:36:35.59\00:36:37.96 What a mission. 00:36:37.99\00:36:39.33 Now who is taking care of all these children? 00:36:39.36\00:36:42.33 Who's directing them there in Haiti? 00:36:42.36\00:36:45.90 For Haiti, it is important to have someone 00:36:45.93\00:36:49.47 that is showing transparency 00:36:49.50\00:36:51.77 and who have the love and passion for children. 00:36:51.81\00:36:55.28 So we're blessed to have St. Louis Cefran, 00:36:55.31\00:37:00.12 new director of the orphanage. 00:37:00.15\00:37:02.32 The love from that man to the children 00:37:02.35\00:37:04.95 is unbelievable. 00:37:04.99\00:37:06.32 He is a godsend. Amen. 00:37:06.35\00:37:08.12 Because you cannot have orphanage in Haiti 00:37:08.16\00:37:11.76 without showing transparency. 00:37:11.79\00:37:14.03 That someone is there to look after the children. 00:37:14.10\00:37:17.27 But not only he is there to work 00:37:17.30\00:37:20.54 but it's not only the reason, it's his passion for children. 00:37:20.57\00:37:25.64 So when we went to the church before, 00:37:25.67\00:37:29.44 God provided us with him. 00:37:29.48\00:37:32.51 And this is a blessing 00:37:32.55\00:37:34.68 to the Hope Ministry Project, Inc. 00:37:34.72\00:37:36.62 That orphanage could not be working and functioning 00:37:36.69\00:37:40.56 without that man, the director. 00:37:40.59\00:37:42.96 This is true. 00:37:42.99\00:37:44.33 We very much feel that God placed him 00:37:44.36\00:37:46.36 in our path at that time. 00:37:46.39\00:37:47.73 He had experience with another Adventist orphanage. 00:37:47.76\00:37:50.17 As Jessie said, has an unbelievable love 00:37:50.20\00:37:52.27 for the children and is completely trustworthy, 00:37:52.30\00:37:55.77 provides documentation 00:37:55.80\00:37:57.14 for any funds that are provided, 00:37:57.21\00:37:58.77 provides a real comfort level for us about... 00:37:58.81\00:38:01.54 This is the path that God has for us 00:38:01.58\00:38:03.68 because Louis was placed 00:38:03.75\00:38:05.51 at this spot in this moment in time. 00:38:05.55\00:38:07.45 Wow. 00:38:07.52\00:38:08.85 Children are so comfortable with him, 00:38:08.88\00:38:10.92 I mean someone that they can go to 00:38:10.99\00:38:12.52 and someone that they can talk to 00:38:12.55\00:38:14.19 and trust, which was a big thing for us. 00:38:14.26\00:38:17.13 And he definitely provides that security 00:38:17.16\00:38:19.79 that they have lacked for so long, it's a blessing. 00:38:19.83\00:38:23.60 When you were invited to go, what were your... 00:38:23.67\00:38:28.00 What was your... 00:38:28.04\00:38:29.40 How did it change you? How did it impact your life? 00:38:29.44\00:38:31.84 Well, that was my first mission trip. 00:38:31.87\00:38:34.01 So I'd never done... 00:38:34.08\00:38:35.41 I had never had an experience like that before. 00:38:35.44\00:38:37.38 I've done the washing of the feet 00:38:37.45\00:38:39.68 with the group before and we've done, 00:38:39.71\00:38:42.02 you know, we've fed the homeless 00:38:42.05\00:38:43.49 but nothing of this magnitude. 00:38:43.52\00:38:46.45 So I would always, you know, say that 00:38:46.49\00:38:49.62 I would watch programs like this at home, 00:38:49.66\00:38:52.26 and it tugs at the heart a little bit, 00:38:52.29\00:38:55.23 and you know, you feel bad, you're compassionate, 00:38:55.26\00:38:57.73 but then that's kind of, sometimes, where it stops. 00:38:57.77\00:39:00.84 And so I feel like God moved me to this trip. 00:39:00.87\00:39:04.77 And it was a life-changing experience that I mean... 00:39:04.81\00:39:09.71 You really do have to experience 00:39:09.74\00:39:11.45 to understand just how much... 00:39:11.48\00:39:15.05 How inspiring it is. 00:39:15.08\00:39:16.69 So going there, I didn't know what to expect. 00:39:16.72\00:39:21.09 I didn't know what it would look like. 00:39:21.12\00:39:23.83 And just when the truck... 00:39:23.86\00:39:26.06 When the van pulled up and those kids ran out at us, 00:39:26.09\00:39:30.77 just embracing us, 00:39:30.80\00:39:32.13 taking the backpacks off of our back 00:39:32.17\00:39:33.67 and putting it down, 00:39:33.74\00:39:35.07 I mean that's just a feeling that I'll never forget. 00:39:35.10\00:39:39.97 And one of the children said, 00:39:40.01\00:39:43.35 "People come and they say that they're going to be back 00:39:43.38\00:39:46.48 and they're going to help us and they tell us 00:39:46.51\00:39:48.75 all these great ideas and then they never show up." 00:39:48.78\00:39:52.25 So we all knew at that moment that 00:39:52.29\00:39:55.19 we were going to be the ones to show up. 00:39:55.22\00:39:57.23 That's right. 00:39:57.26\00:39:58.59 There was a particular story 00:39:58.63\00:40:00.00 that you shared with us briefly. 00:40:00.03\00:40:01.36 Talk about the blind man? 00:40:01.40\00:40:02.93 His name is John Le. 00:40:02.96\00:40:04.40 He is 21. 00:40:04.43\00:40:06.60 He's been in the orphanage since he was a small boy. 00:40:06.63\00:40:09.90 He's blind but he wasn't born blind. 00:40:09.94\00:40:12.54 As we began to speak with him, 00:40:12.57\00:40:14.11 he explained to us that he had an issue with his eyes. 00:40:14.18\00:40:17.05 They weren't sure exactly what it was. 00:40:17.08\00:40:20.32 And then around the age of five, 00:40:20.35\00:40:22.15 he woke up completely blind, and everything was dark. 00:40:22.18\00:40:26.29 So just speaking with him a little bit more 00:40:26.32\00:40:29.16 and getting to know his story, 00:40:29.19\00:40:30.53 he said that someone came in, 00:40:30.56\00:40:32.93 you know, a group came in to help out 00:40:32.96\00:40:34.53 and just kind of said that they would be back to perform 00:40:34.56\00:40:39.73 some sort of surgery or that there was something 00:40:39.77\00:40:42.04 that they could do to help him to regain his sight, 00:40:42.07\00:40:45.01 and you know, they never came back. 00:40:45.04\00:40:47.48 So I mean, just the hope he felt, right, 00:40:47.51\00:40:51.45 what the possibility of being able to see again 00:40:51.48\00:40:55.35 was just ripped away. 00:40:55.38\00:40:56.72 How sad. 00:40:56.79\00:40:58.12 In other words, he was saying to you, 00:40:58.15\00:40:59.49 "Please don't do the same thing to me." 00:40:59.52\00:41:00.86 Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. 00:41:00.89\00:41:02.22 You know, that's a sad reality 00:41:02.26\00:41:03.59 because you think about that... 00:41:03.63\00:41:04.96 And there are so many of us, sometimes we sit down, 00:41:04.99\00:41:06.63 and we watch a program 00:41:06.70\00:41:08.03 and we kind of become hardened to it, 00:41:08.06\00:41:09.83 inoculated, and we see the children in their poverty 00:41:09.86\00:41:12.00 and we'd say, 00:41:12.03\00:41:13.37 "They're just trying to raise funds 00:41:13.44\00:41:14.77 to use it for themselves," 00:41:14.80\00:41:16.40 and then we hear about this ministry 00:41:16.44\00:41:18.17 and we know that that's not the case. 00:41:18.21\00:41:20.41 There are people on the other side 00:41:20.48\00:41:21.81 of our comfort 00:41:21.84\00:41:23.58 that are going to go to bed tonight and wonder, 00:41:23.65\00:41:26.58 you know, 00:41:26.61\00:41:27.95 "How many mosquito bites am I going to have 00:41:27.98\00:41:29.32 when I wake up in the morning? 00:41:29.35\00:41:30.69 Is going to be warm water for me? 00:41:30.72\00:41:32.05 Am I going to get to school? 00:41:32.09\00:41:33.46 Am I going to have a meal," 00:41:33.49\00:41:34.82 'cause I want you to talk about that. 00:41:34.86\00:41:36.19 You talked about... 00:41:36.22\00:41:37.56 In the past, when you had the funding... 00:41:37.59\00:41:38.93 And what I like about your ministry... 00:41:38.96\00:41:40.30 We're going to show a video in a moment. 00:41:40.33\00:41:41.66 But what I like about your ministry is 00:41:41.70\00:41:43.03 you just want to provide every need that they have 00:41:43.06\00:41:45.93 and, I think Courtney mentioned, 00:41:45.97\00:41:47.37 the budget just kept shrinking and shrinking 00:41:47.44\00:41:49.44 and shrinking and shrinking because... 00:41:49.47\00:41:51.21 How much does it take per month, 00:41:51.24\00:41:52.57 you say, average to handle this? 00:41:52.61\00:41:54.18 Average is about $5,000 a month. 00:41:54.21\00:41:56.75 Okay. Wow. 00:41:56.78\00:41:58.11 And actually we're having living on $2,000 00:41:58.15\00:41:59.88 a month, which is... 00:41:59.91\00:42:01.58 Instead of them having three meals a day, 00:42:01.62\00:42:03.69 we are down now to two meals a day. 00:42:03.72\00:42:06.02 And it's just heartbreaking, you know, because... 00:42:06.05\00:42:11.09 The two meals a day... 00:42:11.13\00:42:12.53 And then so many needs. 00:42:12.56\00:42:14.00 Also, we have children 00:42:14.03\00:42:16.26 who are of aging group 00:42:16.30\00:42:20.44 that, you know, 18. 00:42:20.47\00:42:22.27 Like Courtney said, 00:42:22.30\00:42:24.34 we have those kids all what they know is orphanage. 00:42:24.37\00:42:28.64 Had lived in all their lives. All their lives. 00:42:28.68\00:42:30.58 And now what happen, 00:42:30.65\00:42:31.98 they're aging out and they don't have a trade 00:42:32.01\00:42:35.05 Are we going to let them go without having a skill? 00:42:35.08\00:42:36.52 That's right. They need a trade. 00:42:36.55\00:42:38.85 That's really important 00:42:38.89\00:42:40.66 because they need to have a trade 00:42:40.69\00:42:42.02 to be able to be independent, 00:42:42.06\00:42:45.46 otherwise they will stay in the orphanage forever. 00:42:45.49\00:42:47.60 That's right. 00:42:47.63\00:42:48.96 So that's one of the needs that we have, 00:42:49.00\00:42:50.97 also for them to have a... 00:42:51.00\00:42:54.24 Before you go past that point, 00:42:54.27\00:42:55.70 I want to talk about the trade here 00:42:55.74\00:42:57.21 and give one of the other ladies a chance. 00:42:57.24\00:42:59.81 How do you get them ready for this trade? 00:42:59.84\00:43:01.88 What is the vision for that? 00:43:01.91\00:43:04.18 I think initially what we'd like to do 00:43:04.25\00:43:07.42 and what our push is next 00:43:07.45\00:43:09.22 is we need to bring a small business 00:43:09.25\00:43:10.72 into the orphanage to help them become more self-supporting. 00:43:10.79\00:43:14.36 As they become more self-supporting, 00:43:14.39\00:43:16.29 we can bring in some of these programs that Jessie said 00:43:16.32\00:43:18.73 to enable these children and young adults 00:43:18.76\00:43:20.90 to live independently on their own. 00:43:20.93\00:43:22.80 So part of what we're trying to do is raise funds 00:43:22.83\00:43:24.90 so that we can bring in 00:43:24.93\00:43:26.30 a small business as Jess said. 00:43:26.33\00:43:28.14 We really maxed out all of our funds, 00:43:28.17\00:43:31.01 providing some of the essential needs. 00:43:31.04\00:43:33.24 The food is an ongoing cost but we provided electricity, 00:43:33.27\00:43:35.81 we fixed the plumbing, the children have healthcare, 00:43:35.84\00:43:39.45 tuition has been paid for this year, 00:43:39.48\00:43:41.42 and now we're about to the end of our budget. 00:43:41.45\00:43:43.89 And the food is ongoing obviously. 00:43:43.92\00:43:47.09 So I think the thing that we need most 00:43:47.16\00:43:49.42 is to establish that small business 00:43:49.46\00:43:50.99 so that they can begin to offset 00:43:51.03\00:43:53.16 some of their costs. 00:43:53.19\00:43:54.53 But I also just wanted to add one thing to what Saada said, 00:43:54.56\00:43:57.27 which is that... 00:43:57.30\00:43:58.63 You know, many of us volunteer, 00:43:58.67\00:44:00.04 you know, periods of time for volunteer work, right? 00:44:00.07\00:44:02.07 You know, "I'm going to do this... 00:44:02.10\00:44:03.44 I'm going to feed the homeless on the street in Miami 00:44:03.51\00:44:04.84 for three hours on a Sabbath afternoon." 00:44:04.87\00:44:07.28 We came back from this going, "There is no one else." 00:44:07.31\00:44:10.95 If we do not show up to feed these children, 00:44:10.98\00:44:13.28 there is no one. 00:44:13.31\00:44:14.68 There is not a social system, as Jessie said, 00:44:14.72\00:44:18.09 other people go and do not continue to help. 00:44:18.12\00:44:20.99 So the 15 of us that went down came back 00:44:21.02\00:44:23.73 with a wonderful blessing 00:44:23.76\00:44:25.86 of having spent time with these children 00:44:25.89\00:44:27.53 but a terrible burden. 00:44:27.60\00:44:28.96 I lay awake in bed at night and think, 00:44:29.00\00:44:30.80 "How are we going to feed these children?" 00:44:30.87\00:44:32.67 We have maxed out the budget from our not-for-profit 00:44:32.70\00:44:36.84 because, again, we've stepped out. 00:44:36.91\00:44:38.94 But it is truly... 00:44:38.97\00:44:40.41 If we do not raise funds to do the things 00:44:40.48\00:44:43.08 we need to do, these children will not have food, 00:44:43.11\00:44:45.08 and I am not exaggerating when I say that. 00:44:45.11\00:44:47.45 Wow. 00:44:47.52\00:44:48.85 And I think that the turning point 00:44:48.88\00:44:50.32 from that first trip was when we all... 00:44:50.39\00:44:52.35 I mean, I think when we got there 00:44:52.39\00:44:53.79 and we saw the need and we saw their living condition, 00:44:53.86\00:44:57.53 we immediately knew 00:44:57.56\00:44:58.89 that we had to step in and get involved. 00:44:58.93\00:45:00.30 But I think the turning point was when we all came home 00:45:00.33\00:45:03.00 from the trip and the sun went down 00:45:03.03\00:45:05.47 that Sabbath and we realized that 00:45:05.50\00:45:08.17 those kids would be at home in the dark. 00:45:08.20\00:45:10.24 Oh, no. Wow. 00:45:10.31\00:45:11.91 And to think of those kids that showed us so much love 00:45:11.94\00:45:15.51 would be without light that night 00:45:15.54\00:45:18.75 and would be spending the night in the dark, 00:45:18.78\00:45:21.35 night after night, 00:45:21.38\00:45:23.25 was what really, at that point, just... 00:45:23.28\00:45:25.82 I mean everyone knew there was no turning back. 00:45:25.85\00:45:28.69 Something has to be done. 00:45:28.72\00:45:30.06 Yeah. Wow. 00:45:30.13\00:45:31.46 You were just there in Haiti, Jessie. 00:45:31.49\00:45:34.36 Yes. 00:45:34.40\00:45:35.73 I just was there for the school supply, 00:45:35.76\00:45:38.67 I believe, and the notebook and the backpack for them. 00:45:38.70\00:45:42.27 But it's just amazing the welcoming they give us. 00:45:42.30\00:45:47.28 To me, this is all that is worth it. 00:45:47.31\00:45:49.58 Yeah. 00:45:49.61\00:45:50.95 When you see the life of these children being transformed, 00:45:50.98\00:45:54.62 you know, they have a meal, they dress, 00:45:54.65\00:45:57.92 you know, and they're so grateful. 00:45:57.95\00:46:00.76 You know, my husband... 00:46:00.79\00:46:02.22 And my husband says, "I see why you and Saada 00:46:02.26\00:46:05.19 and your whole group love these children," 00:46:05.23\00:46:07.20 because they give so much love, 00:46:07.23\00:46:10.60 so much love, it's just unbelievable. 00:46:10.67\00:46:12.93 And I will move mountain for these children. 00:46:12.97\00:46:16.00 I just doesn't want them to be left alone. 00:46:16.04\00:46:17.64 Wow. 00:46:17.67\00:46:19.01 You know, I want to go to the video right now 00:46:19.04\00:46:20.68 in the interest of informing you. 00:46:20.71\00:46:23.65 And when we come back, 00:46:23.68\00:46:25.01 we'll segue to the rest of our program. 00:46:25.05\00:46:26.65 Yes. 00:46:26.72\00:46:28.05 Welcome to you 00:46:32.75\00:46:39.13 All right. 00:48:07.02\00:48:08.58 All right. 00:48:14.62\00:48:15.96 You know, I love my children. 00:48:44.55\00:48:45.89 They are my world. 00:48:45.92\00:48:48.06 And I can't think of being a better person 00:48:48.09\00:48:51.93 outside of being a better parent for them 00:48:51.96\00:48:55.63 knowing that I'm training them up 00:48:55.66\00:48:57.30 to be a little boy who loves God, 00:48:57.37\00:49:01.20 little girl who loves God, 00:49:01.24\00:49:02.67 and are protected, fed, clothed, loved, 00:49:02.70\00:49:06.11 and then I come here and I see 00:49:06.14\00:49:08.11 these children that are really in need, 00:49:08.14\00:49:11.98 in need of the basics. 00:49:12.01\00:49:13.85 And my heart breaks. 00:49:13.92\00:49:16.32 And really one of the things that touched me the most 00:49:16.35\00:49:19.49 was just the vulnerability. 00:49:19.52\00:49:21.16 The time that we spent here with these kids, 00:49:25.09\00:49:27.60 you know, talking to them, 00:49:27.63\00:49:28.96 playing with them, touching them, 00:49:29.00\00:49:30.37 and cutting their nails, and all of those things, 00:49:30.40\00:49:33.44 that's awesome, you know, it's a wonderful experience, 00:49:33.47\00:49:36.54 but we can't be here every day. 00:49:36.57\00:49:38.51 But when we have sponsorships and we make that, 00:49:38.54\00:49:42.88 I guess, a solid program where the people back home 00:49:42.91\00:49:46.08 sponsoring these kids can send letters, 00:49:46.11\00:49:48.65 can send pictures, and then vice versa, 00:49:48.68\00:49:51.52 I think that's going to do a lot for this orphanage. 00:49:51.55\00:49:54.26 And then when we get some consistent program going here, 00:49:54.29\00:49:57.53 I think it can spill over into other communities. 00:49:57.56\00:50:00.60 We want to be the orphanage that people think of, 00:50:00.63\00:50:03.90 that they choose. 00:50:03.97\00:50:05.30 We want to have a high level of expectation 00:50:05.33\00:50:08.14 when it comes to cleanliness, food, education, Christianity. 00:50:08.17\00:50:12.61 There's no reason we can't do that here. 00:50:12.64\00:50:14.21 We want this orphanage to be a beacon in the community 00:50:14.28\00:50:18.11 and outreach opportunity. 00:50:18.15\00:50:19.48 There's a church on the site here as well. 00:50:19.51\00:50:21.35 We want this to be the same standard 00:50:21.38\00:50:23.02 that we would provide to our children in the States, 00:50:23.05\00:50:24.99 but we will need lots of help to do that. 00:50:25.02\00:50:27.49 Lord, prepare me 00:50:27.56\00:50:30.53 To be a sanctuary 00:50:30.56\00:50:34.63 Pure and holy 00:50:34.66\00:50:38.13 Tried and true with thanksgiving 00:50:38.17\00:50:44.94 I'll be Your living Sanctuary 00:50:44.97\00:50:52.51 For You 00:50:52.55\00:50:56.22 Lord, prepare me 00:50:56.25\00:50:58.95 To be a sanctuary 00:50:58.99\00:51:00.76 That's it. 00:51:03.09\00:51:06.39 Right, you want to take it up. 00:51:06.43\00:51:08.63 I'm done. 00:51:08.66\00:51:10.10 I know you're watching the program 00:51:21.48\00:51:22.94 and you're saying, "How can I help? 00:51:22.98\00:51:25.31 What difference can I make? 00:51:25.35\00:51:26.72 How can I put my funds 00:51:26.75\00:51:28.08 where lives are being transformed?" 00:51:28.12\00:51:30.19 We want you to take note of what you saw today. 00:51:30.22\00:51:32.42 And when you go to bed tonight, 00:51:32.45\00:51:34.16 as was pointed out on the program, 00:51:34.19\00:51:36.39 and you're in the comfort of your bed, 00:51:36.42\00:51:38.29 there is somebody without lights, without food, 00:51:38.33\00:51:40.90 without those needs, 00:51:40.93\00:51:42.26 and the Lord is calling on you to reach deep down 00:51:42.30\00:51:44.87 and change your life. 00:51:44.90\00:51:46.23 And here is the information 00:51:46.27\00:51:47.64 that you need to become involved. 00:51:47.67\00:51:50.51 The Hope Ministry Project team 00:51:54.08\00:51:55.91 provide food for over 200 people each week, 00:51:55.94\00:51:59.48 along with clothing, sleeping bags, and toiletries. 00:51:59.51\00:52:02.85 If you would like to support this ministry, 00:52:02.88\00:52:05.09 please visit their website, HopeHouseMiami.org, 00:52:05.12\00:52:09.29 that's HopeHouseMiami.org. 00:52:09.32\00:52:12.46 You may also call them 00:52:12.49\00:52:13.83 at 954-468-0532 00:52:13.90\00:52:18.97 or send your donations to Hope Ministry Project, 00:52:19.00\00:52:22.37 1528 Northeast 135th Street, 00:52:22.40\00:52:26.81 Miami, Florida 33161. 00:52:26.88\00:52:30.25
