Oh, I am glad to be here, Jill. 00:01:51.21\00:01:53.27 Love to be with you. 00:01:53.31\00:01:54.64 So you are an associate speaker, 00:01:54.68\00:01:56.21 is that right? 00:01:56.24\00:01:57.58 Yes, that's correct. 00:01:57.65\00:01:58.98 And how long have you and your husband 00:01:59.01\00:02:00.35 been in Voice of Prophecy? 00:02:00.38\00:02:01.72 We started with Voice of Prophecy in 2013. 00:02:01.75\00:02:04.12 So it's been a couple of years now. 00:02:04.19\00:02:05.52 Okay, now when you started, I am trying to remember, 00:02:05.55\00:02:07.69 had you moved to Colorado or did the move to Colorado 00:02:07.72\00:02:10.36 for Voice of Prophecy take place 00:02:10.43\00:02:11.76 when you guys took the helm over? 00:02:11.79\00:02:13.73 It took place after Shawn became the speaker/director 00:02:13.80\00:02:16.53 for Voice of Prophecy. 00:02:16.56\00:02:18.10 The Adventist Media Center was closing 00:02:18.13\00:02:20.27 and so each of the ministries needed to look for a new home 00:02:20.34\00:02:23.51 and so Shawn and our manager Victor, 00:02:23.54\00:02:26.04 they looked at multiple locations 00:02:26.07\00:02:28.31 across the US and landed on Colorado 00:02:28.34\00:02:31.15 which I'm delighted that they did. 00:02:31.18\00:02:32.55 We are really enjoying being in Colorado. 00:02:32.58\00:02:34.15 Oh, that's wonderful. Beautiful scenery. 00:02:34.22\00:02:36.45 Oh, it is. It's gorgeous. 00:02:36.48\00:02:37.82 You can't beat that. Hard to beat. 00:02:37.85\00:02:39.19 Yes. That's right. 00:02:39.22\00:02:40.56 Absolutely. 00:02:40.59\00:02:41.92 Well, we want to get just a little bit 00:02:41.96\00:02:43.29 of Jean's story and she and her husband. 00:02:43.32\00:02:44.76 But the focus of this interview is actually about, 00:02:44.79\00:02:48.33 we could say a brand new, 00:02:48.36\00:02:49.70 but it's actually been in existence a little bit 00:02:49.73\00:02:51.77 but it's a radio program for children 00:02:51.80\00:02:54.77 called Discovery Mountain. 00:02:54.80\00:02:56.71 And I remember, Jean, maybe a year ago, 00:02:56.74\00:02:59.34 my sister calling me on the phone, 00:02:59.37\00:03:00.71 she lives in North Carolina and she said, 00:03:00.78\00:03:02.74 "Jill, have you ever heard of Discovery Mountain?" 00:03:02.78\00:03:04.51 And I was like, "I don't think so." 00:03:04.55\00:03:06.45 And she said, 00:03:06.48\00:03:07.82 "I love this program, and my boys." 00:03:07.85\00:03:09.65 I think she discovered it maybe when you were 00:03:09.68\00:03:11.62 three episodes in. 00:03:11.65\00:03:12.99 So it was season one, right at the beginning. 00:03:13.02\00:03:14.36 Wow. 00:03:14.39\00:03:15.72 And she said, "The boys love it." 00:03:15.76\00:03:17.63 My nephews are five, seven, nine and eleven. 00:03:17.66\00:03:20.80 Oh, okay. 00:03:20.83\00:03:22.16 Perfect age for this program. 00:03:22.20\00:03:23.53 Perfect age and they loved the radio program 00:03:23.57\00:03:25.30 and every week they are just glued to it to listen 00:03:25.33\00:03:27.64 and I said, "I got to check this out." 00:03:27.67\00:03:29.17 So we are going to talk about Discovery Mountain today. 00:03:29.20\00:03:31.94 What is Discovery Mountain in a nutshell? 00:03:31.97\00:03:34.08 And then we'll go back to some of 00:03:34.11\00:03:35.44 you and your husband's story. 00:03:35.48\00:03:36.81 Okay, sure. 00:03:36.85\00:03:38.18 Discovery Mountain, 00:03:38.21\00:03:39.55 we like to say it's our audio adventure series 00:03:39.58\00:03:40.92 for kids. 00:03:40.95\00:03:42.28 So it is a weekly half-hour program. 00:03:42.32\00:03:45.05 Voice of Prophecy creates 24 new episodes per year. 00:03:45.09\00:03:49.26 And in addition to that, 00:03:49.29\00:03:50.63 there is new content every week. 00:03:50.66\00:03:52.49 And so we know kids like, your nephews for example, 00:03:52.53\00:03:55.53 they get used to looking for something new 00:03:55.56\00:03:57.37 every Wednesday to listen to. 00:03:57.40\00:03:59.50 And so, when we don't have a full episode, 00:03:59.53\00:04:01.44 we have what we are calling our mini-adventure. 00:04:01.47\00:04:03.51 So a little bit of maybe behind the scenes 00:04:03.54\00:04:06.07 or an interview with a voice actor 00:04:06.11\00:04:07.88 but every single week there is new content. 00:04:07.91\00:04:09.98 Amen. 00:04:10.05\00:04:11.38 So the focus of our program today, 00:04:11.41\00:04:12.75 we are going to talk about Discovery Mountain 00:04:12.78\00:04:14.32 and what you have done with the seasons 00:04:14.35\00:04:17.19 and what is the purpose and the goal. 00:04:17.22\00:04:18.55 We are gonna get some behind the scenes look 00:04:18.59\00:04:20.69 into what takes place there with the production of it. 00:04:20.76\00:04:23.29 But let's talk about you and your husband, 00:04:23.32\00:04:25.26 tell me where you first met, how you first met? 00:04:25.29\00:04:26.83 Oh, wow. 00:04:26.90\00:04:28.23 That's a long story, 00:04:28.26\00:04:30.07 but I'll give you the highlights. 00:04:30.10\00:04:32.60 Neither Shawn or myself were raised 00:04:32.63\00:04:34.84 as Seventh-day Adventists and we met through my dad. 00:04:34.87\00:04:39.31 My dad at the time was working 00:04:39.34\00:04:41.11 for the ministry of advanced education 00:04:41.14\00:04:43.08 in British Columbia, Canada, and he had... 00:04:43.11\00:04:46.41 Part of his job was to have a youth advisory council 00:04:46.45\00:04:49.98 and one of the young fellows on that council and my dad, 00:04:50.02\00:04:52.82 they became friends in spite of the age difference 00:04:52.85\00:04:55.42 and this fellow's name was Choy 00:04:55.46\00:04:57.36 and Choy had a friend who is Shawn. 00:04:57.43\00:05:00.53 And one day, my dad brought the guys 00:05:00.60\00:05:02.66 over to our house, Shawn and I met 00:05:02.70\00:05:04.63 and we began dating after that. 00:05:04.67\00:05:08.04 Were you high school age? 00:05:08.07\00:05:09.40 I had just finished high school 00:05:09.44\00:05:11.01 and Shawn was in his third year of university. 00:05:11.04\00:05:13.11 Okay. 00:05:13.14\00:05:14.48 We started dating and became close to each other 00:05:14.51\00:05:18.45 and realized if we were going to get married, 00:05:18.48\00:05:20.72 we had to find a church 00:05:20.75\00:05:22.75 because we both have been raised in churches, 00:05:22.78\00:05:25.49 even though we weren't necessarily living that way 00:05:25.52\00:05:27.46 at that point in our lives. 00:05:27.49\00:05:29.56 And we thought, if we're gonna have kids one day, 00:05:29.59\00:05:31.03 we have to figure out where we gonna go to church. 00:05:31.06\00:05:33.53 And that began a journey and eventually, you know, 00:05:33.60\00:05:37.50 we ended up where we are today and it's... 00:05:37.57\00:05:41.24 Looking back on it, we have been married 00:05:41.27\00:05:42.80 more than 25 years now. 00:05:42.84\00:05:44.21 Oh, that's precious. 00:05:44.24\00:05:45.74 Amen. Yeah. 00:05:45.77\00:05:47.11 And so looking back, I really see 00:05:47.18\00:05:48.51 how when we were completely oblivious to God's hand 00:05:48.54\00:05:52.11 on our journey, God really was guiding us 00:05:52.15\00:05:54.25 and bringing us together and moving us in faith together 00:05:54.32\00:05:57.29 which is really special. 00:05:57.32\00:05:58.65 Amen, ain't that incredible when you know 00:05:58.69\00:06:00.06 God handpicks your spouse? 00:06:00.09\00:06:01.42 Oh, yeah. 00:06:01.46\00:06:02.79 And you can serve together in ministry 00:06:02.82\00:06:04.16 like the two of you do, that's wonderful. 00:06:04.19\00:06:05.53 Now you have two girls, tell us about them? 00:06:05.56\00:06:06.90 We do. We have two daughters. 00:06:06.93\00:06:08.26 Our oldest daughter Natalie 00:06:08.30\00:06:09.63 is studying at Southern Adventist University. 00:06:09.66\00:06:12.30 She is just loving it there. 00:06:12.33\00:06:13.84 She has kind of found her niche and we are thrilled. 00:06:13.87\00:06:16.17 And our youngest daughter is still in high school 00:06:16.20\00:06:18.61 at Campaign Academy, Naomi. 00:06:18.64\00:06:20.58 Natalie and Naomi. 00:06:20.61\00:06:21.94 Natalie and Naomi, that's wonderful. 00:06:21.98\00:06:23.35 Well, I know God has blessed you 00:06:23.38\00:06:25.71 with many gifts, gifts of speaking in ministry 00:06:25.75\00:06:28.15 and this program is incredible, 00:06:28.18\00:06:29.65 and I know it's reaching so many people. 00:06:29.68\00:06:31.42 So I am looking forward to hearing about that. 00:06:31.45\00:06:33.49 But first we have to go to our music. 00:06:33.56\00:06:35.26 Okay. 00:06:35.29\00:06:36.62 And before we do that, I ask Jean, 00:06:36.66\00:06:39.03 if there was a certain scripture 00:06:39.06\00:06:40.40 that she especially liked. 00:06:40.43\00:06:41.76 And this scripture is Proverbs 3:5, 6 00:06:41.80\00:06:44.90 and if you know it at home, please quote it with us. 00:06:44.93\00:06:47.37 This is an incredible scripture, 00:06:47.44\00:06:48.94 Proverbs 3:5, 6. 00:06:48.97\00:06:50.41 "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, 00:06:50.44\00:06:52.51 and lean not on your own understanding. 00:06:52.54\00:06:56.08 In all your ways acknowledge Him, 00:06:56.11\00:06:58.01 and He shall direct your paths." 00:06:58.05\00:07:01.05 So no matter where you are today 00:07:01.08\00:07:04.29 in your own journey with Jesus, reach out by faith, 00:07:04.32\00:07:07.26 accept Him as your personal savior, 00:07:07.29\00:07:10.23 trust in Him and He will never let you go. 00:07:10.26\00:07:14.23 Our song right now is a piano song 00:07:14.30\00:07:16.87 by Sam Ocampo and I love his music Jean, 00:07:16.90\00:07:19.73 he is an incredibly gifted musician. 00:07:19.77\00:07:21.84 Greg and I have his CD in the car, 00:07:21.87\00:07:23.81 in the hard drive in the car, you know? 00:07:23.84\00:07:25.17 And we often listen to it. 00:07:25.21\00:07:26.54 It is so peaceful and restful. Beautiful. 00:07:26.57\00:07:28.18 And the song he will be doing for us 00:07:28.21\00:07:30.05 is "It Took A Miracle Medley." 00:07:30.08\00:07:32.25 Amen. Thank you so much Sam Ocampo. 00:12:34.25\00:12:36.79 What an incredible blessing, "It Took A Miracle," 00:12:36.82\00:12:39.95 and it took a miracle for God to bring salvation 00:12:39.99\00:12:43.43 to each one of us and we are talking today 00:12:43.46\00:12:46.06 with Jean Boonstra, she is an associate speaker 00:12:46.09\00:12:49.20 for The Voice of Prophecy and we were talking about 00:12:49.23\00:12:51.90 Discovery Mountain which is, we could say brand new, 00:12:51.93\00:12:54.57 but it started in 2017, I believe. 00:12:54.60\00:12:57.21 Yes. 00:12:57.24\00:12:58.57 And it's a program specifically targeted, 00:12:58.61\00:13:00.41 a radio program, for kids. 00:13:00.48\00:13:02.18 So tell us what is Discovery Mountain? 00:13:02.21\00:13:04.38 So Discovery Mountain is, we call it our audio adventure 00:13:04.41\00:13:08.22 series for kids. 00:13:08.25\00:13:09.58 There are 24 half-hour episodes every year 00:13:09.62\00:13:12.19 and new content every week of the year 00:13:12.22\00:13:16.19 and it's just a dramatized story 00:13:16.22\00:13:20.70 is the best way to describe it. 00:13:20.73\00:13:22.60 Amen. 00:13:22.63\00:13:23.97 So what is the mission of the program? 00:13:24.00\00:13:26.60 So the mission of Discovery Mountain 00:13:26.63\00:13:28.70 is at its core, at its simplest form 00:13:28.74\00:13:31.64 is really to help children and their families 00:13:31.67\00:13:34.94 to get to know Jesus. 00:13:34.98\00:13:36.38 To reach children families of any background, 00:13:36.41\00:13:38.98 whether they've attended church their entire lives 00:13:39.01\00:13:41.75 or never set foot in a church. 00:13:41.78\00:13:43.59 That's our goal is to introduce them to Jesus 00:13:43.62\00:13:45.82 and help them to grow that relationship with Him. 00:13:45.85\00:13:47.56 Amen. 00:13:47.59\00:13:48.92 And before we go any further 00:13:48.96\00:13:50.29 talking about Discovery Mountain, 00:13:50.33\00:13:51.66 I believe we have a video clip that you all have put together. 00:13:51.69\00:13:53.40 Yes. 00:13:53.43\00:13:54.76 And tell us about this video clip before we watch it. 00:13:54.80\00:13:56.46 Okay, well, this is great because it shows 00:13:56.50\00:13:58.03 a little bit of the visuals of what Discovery Mountain. 00:13:58.07\00:14:00.47 It's an audio program but it definitely has a look 00:14:00.54\00:14:02.80 and a feel about it. 00:14:02.84\00:14:04.21 We've been very careful 00:14:04.24\00:14:05.57 to create images of the main characters 00:14:05.61\00:14:08.44 and so in this video, 00:14:08.48\00:14:09.81 it kind of gives an overview of what the mission is 00:14:09.84\00:14:11.85 and your viewers can see what it looks like too. 00:14:11.88\00:14:14.78 Sounds perfect, let's take a look at that right now. 00:15:13.27\00:15:14.78 are regular church attendees, 00:15:14.81\00:15:16.85 or if they've never been to church ever, 00:15:16.88\00:15:19.88 now all will enjoy the fun engaging stories. 00:15:19.91\00:15:23.79 Each episode presents Bible stories 00:15:23.82\00:15:26.05 and help with real life issues that kids struggle with today, 00:15:26.09\00:15:30.83 all in a non-threatening manner. 00:15:30.86\00:15:34.10 Now each of our audio CDs clearly indicates 00:15:34.13\00:15:37.47 both the Bible stories covered and the theme of the stories 00:15:37.50\00:15:41.54 such as forgiveness, jealousy, competition or loneliness. 00:15:41.57\00:15:46.88 This will help you as parents, grandparents, and teachers 00:15:46.91\00:15:50.45 to find just the right episodes for the children you care about 00:15:50.48\00:15:54.48 and, of course, the underlying theme of each episode 00:15:54.52\00:15:58.09 is the greatest story ever told, 00:15:58.12\00:16:00.76 Jesus and His love personal savior 00:16:09.36\00:16:11.17 while they are listening to Discovery Mountain. 00:16:11.20\00:16:14.04 Now as parents, 00:16:14.07\00:16:15.50 creating this resource for family timeless values 00:16:23.78\00:16:26.72 that God's Word shares. 00:16:26.75\00:16:29.05 Our two daughters, well, they are now young women, 00:16:29.08\00:16:32.32 and Discovery Mountain is the kind of program 00:16:32.35\00:16:34.92 that we wish had been available when they were just little. 00:16:34.96\00:16:38.73 I invite you to visit our website, 00:16:38.76\00:16:40.53 DiscoveryMountain.com. expedition in Discovery Mountain 00:17:12.99\00:17:15.90 where every day is an exercise in faith. 00:17:15.93\00:17:19.00 Amen. I love that. 00:17:26.24\00:17:27.98 And you know I am not a child anymore 00:17:28.01\00:17:31.18 but I enjoy the series. 00:17:31.21\00:17:33.18 I've just listened to a little bit of season four 00:17:33.21\00:17:36.58 and then several episodes of season five 00:17:36.62\00:17:39.32 and I found myself thinking, "I wonder what happens next." 00:17:39.35\00:17:42.39 I need to see what's gonna happen. 00:17:42.42\00:17:43.96 So this is not just for young people, 00:17:44.03\00:17:45.66 it will be for all ages as well. 00:17:45.69\00:17:47.20 Yeah, absolutely. 00:17:47.23\00:17:48.56 One of our dreams and our hopes when we created this program 00:17:48.60\00:17:51.00 is that it would be interesting enough 00:17:51.03\00:17:52.90 that families would really want to listen to it together 00:17:52.93\00:17:55.94 because when we listen together, 00:17:55.97\00:17:57.41 you know, we have an opportunity to talk about 00:17:57.44\00:17:59.41 those faith exercises as we call them, 00:17:59.44\00:18:02.21 and I have heard from a lot of individuals 00:18:02.24\00:18:04.38 who write to me and say, 00:18:04.41\00:18:05.75 "I can't wait for the next episode. 00:18:05.78\00:18:07.12 By the way, I am 67 years old." 00:18:07.15\00:18:11.19 You know, I think we all like stories, though. 00:18:11.22\00:18:12.72 Yeah, we do. 00:18:12.75\00:18:14.09 And you think about Jesus, when he walked this earth, 00:18:14.16\00:18:15.99 He spoke in parables 00:18:16.02\00:18:17.63 and He engaged His audience with that. 00:18:17.66\00:18:20.00 So here you are presenting biblical truth 00:18:20.03\00:18:22.23 in a way that people can connect with and resonate 00:18:22.26\00:18:24.27 at a heart level. 00:18:24.30\00:18:25.63 Yeah, yeah, that was the goal, absolutely. 00:18:25.67\00:18:28.04 And I have to tell you, Jill, 00:18:28.07\00:18:29.40 I was at a women's ministries event not long ago 00:18:29.44\00:18:32.11 and I was there for a totally separate purpose 00:18:32.14\00:18:34.28 from Discovery Mountain 00:18:34.31\00:18:35.64 but when I walked into the ballroom, 00:18:35.68\00:18:37.58 I met a dear lady, she gave me a big hug and she said, 00:18:37.65\00:18:40.75 "I am Discovery Mountain's biggest fan." 00:18:40.82\00:18:43.22 And I said, "Oh!" 00:18:43.25\00:18:44.72 She is 86 years old 00:18:44.75\00:18:46.29 and her friends affirmed 00:18:46.32\00:18:48.12 that she just loves the program. 00:18:48.16\00:18:49.89 So yes, you are right. 00:18:49.92\00:18:51.26 Storytelling and those timeless stories and truths 00:18:51.29\00:18:55.46 from the Bible really they are ageless. 00:18:55.50\00:18:57.37 They are, that's right. 00:18:57.40\00:18:58.73 So I noticed in that when you have 00:18:58.77\00:19:00.97 the open to each program, it talks something about, 00:19:01.00\00:19:03.61 of course, using your imagination, 00:19:03.64\00:19:05.41 but then it talks about faith. 00:19:05.44\00:19:07.01 And talk to me about 00:19:07.08\00:19:08.41 how faith is an integral part of the program? 00:19:08.44\00:19:11.15 Well, the way we phrase it to kind of make it interesting 00:19:11.18\00:19:13.92 is everyday isn't exercise in faith, you know? 00:19:13.95\00:19:17.22 So Discovery Mountain is this small town 00:19:17.29\00:19:19.92 that sat kind of in the mountains 00:19:19.95\00:19:21.86 and definitely Colorado was an inspiration for that, 00:19:21.89\00:19:25.76 and so the idea of exercising and being outdoors 00:19:25.79\00:19:29.43 and all of these activities, that's constantly a part of it. 00:19:29.46\00:19:32.13 I never thought of that, that's great. 00:19:32.17\00:19:33.54 Yeah. 00:19:33.57\00:19:34.90 But we wanted, of course, 00:19:34.94\00:19:36.27 the real way we exercise is exercising our faith 00:19:36.30\00:19:38.11 and just getting to know God and spending time with Him, 00:19:38.14\00:19:41.88 and the way that we do that in the program 00:19:41.91\00:19:45.05 is every season has a Bible story and a theme 00:19:45.08\00:19:48.25 and we always start there, 00:19:48.28\00:19:49.78 we always choose which story of the Bible we want to tell 00:19:49.82\00:19:53.12 and what the theme of that is, and then we incorporate that 00:19:53.15\00:19:56.02 into each and every single episode. 00:19:56.06\00:19:58.69 There is a Bible verse per episode 00:19:58.73\00:20:01.50 and then not only do we tell that Bible story, 00:20:01.53\00:20:05.60 the characters, fictitious characters, 00:20:05.63\00:20:07.54 of course, they experience those things along the way. 00:20:07.57\00:20:11.77 So I noticed it said 1968, Discovery Mountain 1968, 00:20:11.81\00:20:15.44 but we know that you started this program in 2017. 00:20:15.48\00:20:18.08 Right. So what's that all about? 00:20:18.11\00:20:20.02 You have a good eye. 00:20:20.05\00:20:21.92 It does say that on the logo. 00:20:21.95\00:20:24.09 There's... 00:20:24.12\00:20:25.45 So Discovery Mountain sort of stared by faith. 00:20:25.49\00:20:28.26 So one of our main characters, his name is George Simon, 00:20:28.29\00:20:31.96 we have a storyline where he actually discovers 00:20:31.99\00:20:35.56 Discovery Mountain kind of by accident 00:20:35.60\00:20:38.07 providentially back in 1968. 00:20:38.10\00:20:41.34 So that's when the town is birthed 00:20:41.37\00:20:44.71 and then you see his faith 00:20:44.74\00:20:47.28 and his staying there in that remote area, 00:20:47.31\00:20:50.45 that's where that date comes from. 00:20:50.48\00:20:52.55 That's great. Yeah. 00:20:52.58\00:20:54.02 So tell me where did you get the inspiration for the script 00:20:54.05\00:20:56.89 because right now, you are writing all the scripts, 00:20:56.92\00:20:58.35 is that correct? 00:20:58.39\00:20:59.72 Yes, that's correct. 00:20:59.75\00:21:01.09 So how do you come up with the scripts? 00:21:01.12\00:21:02.46 Well, I actually have a list, you know, in my computer, 00:21:02.49\00:21:06.93 one of the programs I use for taking notes 00:21:07.00\00:21:08.66 where every Bible story that I think is significant, 00:21:08.70\00:21:11.83 and of course every story in the Bible is significant, 00:21:11.87\00:21:14.17 but ones where I think you can really tell a story, 00:21:14.24\00:21:17.01 I have a whole list 00:21:17.04\00:21:18.44 and so when I think about an upcoming season, 00:21:18.47\00:21:21.21 I think about, well, which stories of the Bible 00:21:21.24\00:21:24.41 do I really want families to have a chance 00:21:24.45\00:21:27.05 to really get to know in a different way. 00:21:27.12\00:21:28.92 So for example, season four 00:21:28.95\00:21:30.49 when we decided to create that one, 00:21:30.52\00:21:32.65 the story of Esther is one of my favorites. 00:21:32.69\00:21:35.09 And the story of Esther 00:21:35.12\00:21:37.43 has wonderful themes throughout it. 00:21:37.46\00:21:39.53 I mean it's the whole theme with the great controversy, 00:21:39.56\00:21:41.50 you see good, you see evil, 00:21:41.53\00:21:43.06 you see God intervening for His people. 00:21:43.10\00:21:46.77 Esther is an ordinary person that God uses 00:21:46.84\00:21:50.11 in an incredibly extraordinary way. 00:21:50.14\00:21:52.31 Yes. 00:21:52.34\00:21:53.68 And so that was the foundation for that season. 00:21:53.71\00:21:56.34 And then we had the characters and the individuals 00:21:56.38\00:21:59.08 who live in Discovery Mountain 00:21:59.11\00:22:00.52 kind of experience the same themes. 00:22:00.55\00:22:03.39 So we have Mr. Simon, who we just talked about. 00:22:03.42\00:22:06.12 His niece visits and her name is Hattie 00:22:06.15\00:22:09.06 and she is working for a construction company, 00:22:09.09\00:22:11.43 and she discovers that 00:22:11.46\00:22:12.79 this company wants to destroy Discovery Mountain camp. 00:22:12.83\00:22:16.13 Kind of like a Haman experience then, okay. 00:22:16.16\00:22:18.20 Absolutely, so we have a Haman character 00:22:18.23\00:22:20.44 in Discovery Mountain. 00:22:20.47\00:22:21.80 We have Mordecai character in Discovery Mountain 00:22:21.84\00:22:24.14 and then Hattie, 00:22:24.21\00:22:26.51 the listeners discover a couple of episodes in, 00:22:26.54\00:22:28.68 of course that's short for of Hadassah. 00:22:28.71\00:22:30.88 And we have the opportunity 00:22:30.95\00:22:32.51 not only to talk about the story of Esther 00:22:32.55\00:22:34.42 but this character has her own Esther moments. 00:22:34.45\00:22:37.72 So that's an example of how we do that. 00:22:37.75\00:22:40.06 I love it. 00:22:40.09\00:22:41.42 It's like running a parallel story 00:22:41.46\00:22:42.79 along with the Bible. 00:22:42.82\00:22:44.16 So you take the story from the Bible 00:22:44.23\00:22:45.56 and then you run a parallel story 00:22:45.59\00:22:46.93 with modern-day life 00:22:46.96\00:22:48.30 and yet they are learning from the Bible at the same time. 00:22:48.33\00:22:50.27 That's fabulous, that's great. 00:22:50.30\00:22:52.33 So why did you want to start the series? 00:22:52.37\00:22:57.01 Why do we even have a need for that? 00:22:57.04\00:22:58.87 Right, right. 00:22:58.91\00:23:00.28 Well, I really had a couple of motivations 00:23:00.31\00:23:02.71 and one was that, 00:23:02.74\00:23:04.25 you know, when our daughters were little 00:23:04.28\00:23:05.78 and they are not anymore, they are young women, 00:23:05.81\00:23:08.05 but it feels like just yesterday. 00:23:08.08\00:23:09.75 But when they were young, as parents, 00:23:09.78\00:23:11.42 Shawn and I had a lot of conversations 00:23:11.45\00:23:13.76 and spent a lot of time thinking and praying 00:23:13.79\00:23:15.56 about what kind of Bible related content 00:23:15.59\00:23:19.49 we could share with our daughters. 00:23:19.53\00:23:21.63 And we had... 00:23:21.66\00:23:23.00 Personally as parents, we sort of had our own criteria 00:23:23.03\00:23:27.04 that we establish for choosing resources, 00:23:27.07\00:23:30.11 whether it's books or things that they watched... 00:23:30.14\00:23:32.91 Can I be nosy and ask what is that criteria? 00:23:32.94\00:23:35.84 What criteria would you set for your children? 00:23:35.88\00:23:37.68 Sure. 00:23:37.71\00:23:39.05 Well, again, this is very personal, 00:23:39.08\00:23:40.42 but for us, we wanted the animations, 00:23:40.45\00:23:43.59 whether it was something they were watching on a screen 00:23:43.62\00:23:45.52 or pictures in a book, 00:23:45.55\00:23:47.06 we wanted them to be realistic... 00:23:47.09\00:23:48.42 That's good. 00:23:48.46\00:23:49.79 Yeah, I never felt comfortable with Bible characters 00:23:49.82\00:23:52.79 being portrayed in a silly way or to look like caricatures. 00:23:52.83\00:23:56.16 I thought they should look like real people. 00:23:56.20\00:23:58.07 I respect that. Yeah. 00:23:58.10\00:24:00.04 And then we wanted the stories to be true to life. 00:24:00.07\00:24:03.61 So no talking animals, 00:24:03.64\00:24:06.17 no hopping in a time machine and going back in time, 00:24:06.21\00:24:09.28 those were important criteria for us 00:24:09.31\00:24:11.85 as well as that the story should just be things 00:24:11.88\00:24:17.19 that the kids could relate to. 00:24:17.22\00:24:18.55 Yes. 00:24:18.59\00:24:19.92 And for us personally, 00:24:19.95\00:24:21.29 we felt like we wanted to introduce 00:24:21.32\00:24:22.86 our kids primarily, not always but primarily 00:24:22.89\00:24:26.09 to the New King James Version of the Bible. 00:24:26.13\00:24:28.33 So we wanted them to become familiar with that language. 00:24:28.36\00:24:32.47 And so all of those criteria that we used 00:24:32.50\00:24:35.90 in parenting our daughters when they were young, 00:24:35.94\00:24:38.11 I've sort of applied now to creating Discovery Mountain. 00:24:38.14\00:24:41.61 So I wanted to create a resource 00:24:41.64\00:24:43.58 that I would have loved when my daughters were young, 00:24:43.65\00:24:46.61 and that I would have felt comfortable with using. 00:24:46.65\00:24:49.32 And, you know, I mean, Greg and I don't have children 00:24:49.35\00:24:51.29 but I can only imagine as a parent, 00:24:51.32\00:24:53.46 you want to know that your children are safe. 00:24:53.49\00:24:56.49 I mean, not just physically safe 00:24:56.52\00:24:58.03 but you want to know... 00:24:58.06\00:24:59.39 if I set them in front of a television, 00:24:59.43\00:25:01.06 or if I set them in front of a radio 00:25:01.10\00:25:03.50 and they are going to listen to a children's programming, 00:25:03.57\00:25:06.30 is it going to portray biblical principles? 00:25:06.33\00:25:08.57 Is it going to portray things that I, as a parent, 00:25:08.60\00:25:11.27 want to instill on my child? 00:25:11.31\00:25:13.11 I like that. Absolutely, absolutely. 00:25:13.14\00:25:14.68 And by the way, our daughters loved 3ABN Kids programming 00:25:14.71\00:25:17.25 when they were young, that was wonderful. 00:25:17.28\00:25:19.88 They spent a lot of time with that, 00:25:19.91\00:25:21.25 but they enjoyed it. 00:25:21.28\00:25:22.62 But, you know, so that was part of my motivation, 00:25:22.65\00:25:24.35 wanting to create this resource for families, for kids, 00:25:24.39\00:25:27.26 for parents but, you know, 00:25:27.29\00:25:29.09 and I think you've probably experienced this, 00:25:29.12\00:25:30.83 probably too, Jill, especially when 00:25:30.86\00:25:33.50 I am at women's ministries type of events 00:25:33.53\00:25:35.90 or talking to my female friends and colleagues, 00:25:35.93\00:25:38.73 there is a deep burden of grandparents 00:25:38.77\00:25:42.24 for their grandchildren. 00:25:42.27\00:25:43.91 Yeah. 00:25:43.94\00:25:45.27 Those parents who have adult children, 00:25:45.31\00:25:47.08 who maybe don't believe or aren't going to church, 00:25:47.11\00:25:50.55 then there is that disconnect with that third generation, 00:25:50.58\00:25:53.85 the grandkids, and so many grandparents 00:25:53.92\00:25:58.35 just have such a burden to reach those kids. 00:25:58.39\00:26:01.32 And I wanted, we wanted Discovery Mountain 00:26:01.36\00:26:03.83 to be a great resource for them, 00:26:03.86\00:26:05.36 something that, 00:26:05.39\00:26:06.73 if their grandchildren are visiting, 00:26:06.80\00:26:08.13 or if they have them 00:26:08.16\00:26:09.50 take driving them to and from church, 00:26:09.53\00:26:11.07 that they could play for them and it would be a gentle, 00:26:11.10\00:26:13.87 sort of engaging friendly way for them to talk about faith 00:26:13.94\00:26:17.44 and talk about their beliefs. 00:26:17.51\00:26:18.84 Amen. 00:26:18.87\00:26:20.21 That's beautiful 00:26:20.24\00:26:21.58 because I can think of phone calls 00:26:21.61\00:26:22.94 that we receive in the office 00:26:22.98\00:26:24.31 and sometimes people call distraught 00:26:24.35\00:26:25.68 and I don't work in the pastoral department, 00:26:25.71\00:26:27.75 so I wouldn't get all of those phone calls. 00:26:27.78\00:26:29.28 But sometimes 00:26:29.32\00:26:30.79 a grandma will call or something, 00:26:30.82\00:26:32.45 or a mom or something and those say, you know, 00:26:32.49\00:26:35.12 "I am really worried about my kids." 00:26:35.16\00:26:37.63 I mean, I agree with you, 00:26:37.66\00:26:39.16 that is a burden for kids and for grandkids, 00:26:39.19\00:26:41.93 those who are not walking with God or don't know God, 00:26:41.96\00:26:44.77 and how can I bring them back. 00:26:44.80\00:26:46.40 And, of course, we know 00:26:46.43\00:26:47.77 it's the drawing of the Holy Spirit, 00:26:47.80\00:26:49.14 it's nothing we can do but the Lord has blessed 00:26:49.17\00:26:51.84 with different avenues 00:26:51.87\00:26:53.21 that you can put in front of your children, 00:26:53.24\00:26:54.58 and one of them is Discovery Mountain. 00:26:54.61\00:26:57.25 So that's an incredible resource 00:26:57.28\00:26:59.61 that God has given. 00:26:59.65\00:27:01.05 So praise the Lord for that. 00:27:01.08\00:27:02.42 We aired Discovery Mountain, 00:27:02.45\00:27:03.79 we just kind of make sure we get this in here. 00:27:03.82\00:27:05.99 On 3ABN Radio, 00:27:06.02\00:27:07.89 Discovery Mountain airs every Sunday evening 00:27:07.92\00:27:11.39 at 7:30 PM Central. 00:27:11.43\00:27:13.70 So all you have to do is 00:27:13.73\00:27:15.80 tune into 3ABN Radio at 7:30 PM Central, 00:27:15.83\00:27:19.80 or you can go and listen to it on your website as well 00:27:19.83\00:27:22.90 because I know that's how I've been listening 00:27:22.94\00:27:24.44 because that's way, it's on demand, 00:27:24.47\00:27:25.81 anytime you want, you can listen to it. 00:27:25.84\00:27:27.38 Yes, yes, absolutely. 00:27:27.41\00:27:28.74 And we are delighted to be part of the 3ABN 00:27:28.78\00:27:30.65 Radio family of stations because that's a whole network 00:27:30.68\00:27:34.22 that you have established there. 00:27:34.25\00:27:35.98 And the website is mobile-friendly 00:27:36.02\00:27:38.09 which we created intentionally for parents 00:27:38.12\00:27:40.76 so that if whether you are viewing the website 00:27:40.79\00:27:43.16 on a smartphone, on a tablet, on a laptop or home computer, 00:27:43.19\00:27:46.93 it sorts of scales to the size of your screen 00:27:47.00\00:27:49.23 and it's a convenient way to listen as well. 00:27:49.26\00:27:51.47 Yes, and what's the website? 00:27:51.50\00:27:52.83 I know we'll put up the address at the end 00:27:52.87\00:27:54.24 but what's the website? 00:27:54.27\00:27:55.60 Sure. DiscoveryMountain.com. 00:27:55.64\00:27:56.97 Okay. Very simple. 00:27:57.01\00:27:58.34 Wonderful. 00:27:58.37\00:27:59.71 So let's go back to grandparents for a moment. 00:27:59.74\00:28:02.01 What influence can grandparents 00:28:02.04\00:28:03.55 have on their grandchildren's lives? 00:28:03.58\00:28:05.38 Well, you know, and I am thinking 00:28:05.41\00:28:07.32 future forward here, I don't have grandkids yet, 00:28:07.35\00:28:10.02 although I am letting my hair grow grey, 00:28:10.09\00:28:12.02 I am trying to embrace that. 00:28:12.05\00:28:14.26 You look beautiful. 00:28:14.29\00:28:15.69 Oh, you're sweet, thank you. 00:28:15.72\00:28:18.63 But just it's that experience of the grandparents 00:28:18.66\00:28:21.10 that I've interacted with 00:28:21.13\00:28:22.46 and I felt the burden that they have in their heart. 00:28:22.50\00:28:24.90 And, you know, grandparents have 00:28:24.93\00:28:26.27 a wonderful opportunity to influence that 00:28:26.30\00:28:29.00 third generation as we call it. 00:28:29.04\00:28:30.61 But I also believe, Jill, that there is a duty there 00:28:30.64\00:28:33.81 to train up that next generation. 00:28:33.88\00:28:35.81 And I think of a couple of places in scriptures 00:28:35.84\00:28:38.01 where we see that. 00:28:38.05\00:28:39.38 Good. 00:28:39.41\00:28:40.75 When we are thinking back to the Exodus, 00:28:40.82\00:28:43.72 you know, Moses before the children of Israel 00:28:43.79\00:28:47.26 take that first step into the Promised Land, 00:28:47.29\00:28:49.22 of course, Moses can't lead them there, 00:28:49.26\00:28:52.16 that's a whole other study, 00:28:52.19\00:28:54.20 but before Joshua leads them into the Promised Land, 00:28:54.23\00:28:56.77 Moses pauses and he just reminds 00:28:56.80\00:29:00.17 the gathered people there of where they've been, 00:29:00.24\00:29:02.97 where God has taken them, 00:29:03.00\00:29:04.41 he has taken them out of bondage, 00:29:04.44\00:29:06.07 they've had this amazing journey for 40 years 00:29:06.11\00:29:09.18 where they've learned so much. 00:29:09.21\00:29:11.01 And then Moses reminds them and he encourages them, 00:29:11.05\00:29:14.15 and he reminds them of the things 00:29:14.22\00:29:15.95 that God has done for them. 00:29:15.98\00:29:17.32 Yes. 00:29:17.39\00:29:18.72 And in Deuteronomy 4:9, these are the words 00:29:18.75\00:29:22.19 that Moses wants the children of Israel not to forget. 00:29:22.22\00:29:25.59 It says, "Only take heed to yourself, 00:29:25.63\00:29:28.26 and diligently keep yourself, 00:29:28.30\00:29:29.63 lest you forget the things your eyes have seen, 00:29:29.66\00:29:33.54 and lest they depart from your heart 00:29:33.57\00:29:35.57 all the days of your life. 00:29:35.60\00:29:37.31 And teach them to your children and your grandchildren." 00:29:37.34\00:29:40.98 So he is encouraging them 00:29:41.01\00:29:42.51 and reminding them of their duty 00:29:42.54\00:29:44.31 that if they don't share this with the next generations, 00:29:44.35\00:29:48.12 they won't necessarily remember those blessings, 00:29:48.15\00:29:50.82 and how God intervened in their lives, 00:29:50.89\00:29:53.46 and what He did for them, 00:29:53.49\00:29:54.89 and He doesn't want them to forget 00:29:54.92\00:29:56.73 that beautiful forgiveness, 00:29:56.76\00:29:58.99 and that journey that they took with Him. 00:29:59.03\00:30:01.73 And, you know, the Bible says a lot about grandparents, 00:30:01.76\00:30:04.60 more than I realized before I began studying this 00:30:04.63\00:30:06.84 and before this became a real passion for me. 00:30:06.87\00:30:09.27 In the Book of Proverbs, Proverbs 13:22. 00:30:09.30\00:30:12.94 I am just jumping over there, you said Proverbs 13:22? 00:30:12.97\00:30:16.04 Proverbs 13:22. 00:30:16.08\00:30:18.71 There is a verse for grandparents here, 00:30:18.75\00:30:20.72 it says, "A good man..." 00:30:20.75\00:30:22.82 And we can substitute man or a woman. 00:30:22.85\00:30:24.49 "A good man leaves an inheritance 00:30:24.52\00:30:27.36 to his children's children." 00:30:27.39\00:30:29.59 So I think when we read the word inheritance, 00:30:29.62\00:30:32.19 we automatically think of that transferring of wealth 00:30:32.23\00:30:35.73 to another generation. 00:30:35.76\00:30:37.17 That's how we think of... Playing with money. 00:30:37.20\00:30:38.57 Yeah. That's how we think of inheritance nowadays. 00:30:38.60\00:30:41.94 But there is a much richer, deeper inheritance 00:30:41.97\00:30:45.84 that grandparents can share with their grandchildren. 00:30:45.87\00:30:50.25 And we see a wonderful example of that in Timothy. 00:30:50.28\00:30:53.21 In 2 Timothy 1. 00:30:53.25\00:30:55.98 Now, of course, this is Paul's letter to Timothy. 00:30:56.02\00:30:58.62 Timothy, a young man of faith, a young man being used of God. 00:30:58.65\00:31:02.76 And Paul writes 00:31:02.79\00:31:04.36 about that history of faith that Timothy has. 00:31:04.39\00:31:07.30 So 2 Timothy 1:3-5. 00:31:07.33\00:31:10.10 It says, "I thank God, 00:31:10.17\00:31:12.17 whom I serve with a pure conscience, 00:31:12.20\00:31:14.14 as my forefathers did, as without ceasing 00:31:14.17\00:31:17.11 I remember you in my prayers night and day, 00:31:17.14\00:31:19.54 greatly desiring to see you, being mindful of your tears, 00:31:19.57\00:31:23.24 that I may be filled with joy..." 00:31:23.28\00:31:24.81 So this is Paul writing to Timothy. 00:31:24.85\00:31:26.82 "When I call to remembrance 00:31:26.85\00:31:28.25 the genuine faith that is in you, 00:31:28.28\00:31:30.79 which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois 00:31:30.82\00:31:33.36 and your mother Eunice, 00:31:33.39\00:31:34.72 and I am persuaded is in you also." 00:31:34.76\00:31:38.23 Wow. 00:31:38.26\00:31:39.59 And so Timothy had the perfect inheritance 00:31:39.63\00:31:42.60 from his grandmother and his mother 00:31:42.63\00:31:44.57 which was that genuine faith 00:31:44.60\00:31:46.60 that these godly women must have exemplified, 00:31:46.63\00:31:49.67 shared with him, told him the stories 00:31:49.70\00:31:51.71 and encouraged him to have that faith. 00:31:51.74\00:31:53.81 So it's a wonderful legacy that grandparents can leave 00:31:53.88\00:31:57.45 with that next generation. 00:31:57.48\00:31:58.81 Amen. It's a beautiful legacy. 00:31:58.85\00:32:00.82 You know, you think whether 00:32:00.85\00:32:02.22 you have a great deal of money or not, 00:32:02.25\00:32:03.99 that doesn't matter because that spiritual inheritance, 00:32:04.02\00:32:07.56 your legacy of faith, 00:32:07.59\00:32:09.19 your legacy of what you know of Jesus. 00:32:09.22\00:32:12.23 And your journey with Jesus, 00:32:12.26\00:32:13.93 you have the privilege and opportunity 00:32:14.00\00:32:16.06 to pass down not just to your children 00:32:16.10\00:32:18.27 but to your grandchildren and I think, you know, 00:32:18.30\00:32:21.77 Greg and I don't have children, so you can mentor 00:32:21.80\00:32:24.91 other people's children and grandchildren, 00:32:24.94\00:32:27.38 you can be a spiritual mother or grandmother in Israel 00:32:27.41\00:32:31.08 or a spiritual father or grandfather in Israel. 00:32:31.11\00:32:33.62 You can mentor people in the church 00:32:33.65\00:32:35.32 or in the community. 00:32:35.35\00:32:36.69 You can invite them in to listen to Discovery Mountain 00:32:36.72\00:32:40.89 and to learn and so that's incredible. 00:32:40.96\00:32:42.92 So let's talk a little more about Discovery Mountain. 00:32:42.96\00:32:45.63 How do you get the actors? 00:32:45.66\00:32:47.93 How do they come? 00:32:47.96\00:32:49.30 Oh, that is a wonderful story. 00:32:49.33\00:32:51.97 So none of our voice actors are professional actors at all. 00:32:52.00\00:32:56.14 They sound professional. I mean they sound incredible. 00:32:56.17\00:32:57.71 Don't they sound wonderful? They do, they do. 00:32:57.74\00:32:59.91 So our main character in the program, 00:32:59.94\00:33:01.74 his name is Jake Donovan. 00:33:01.78\00:33:03.55 And, sort of, as we were creating this program, 00:33:03.58\00:33:05.95 we sort of had multiple characters, 00:33:05.98\00:33:08.72 multiple voice actors in mind, 00:33:08.75\00:33:10.79 just didn't have anyone in mind for Jake Donovan 00:33:10.82\00:33:13.56 and I thought, "Well, Lord, who can voice that role. 00:33:13.59\00:33:16.12 It's so important 00:33:16.16\00:33:17.53 and that person needs to be available." 00:33:17.56\00:33:19.73 And one day, someone that works for us, 00:33:19.76\00:33:22.53 our media director at The Voice of Prophecy, 00:33:22.56\00:33:24.53 Ruben Gomez, he was voicing something 00:33:24.57\00:33:27.57 for a completely other project that we were doing 00:33:27.64\00:33:30.21 for Voice of Prophecy and I heard his voice 00:33:30.24\00:33:33.21 and I thought, "Ah, Lord, 00:33:33.24\00:33:36.31 I think you have Ruben in mind." 00:33:36.34\00:33:38.25 And so I had to approach him 00:33:38.28\00:33:39.88 and ask if he would preferredly consider that 00:33:39.91\00:33:42.28 on top of his already busy schedule 00:33:42.32\00:33:44.49 but he did. 00:33:44.52\00:33:46.02 He prayed and he accepted. 00:33:46.05\00:33:47.66 So our media director for our VOP 00:33:47.69\00:33:49.42 is the voice of Jake Donovan. 00:33:49.46\00:33:52.16 Mr. Simon is voiced by our receptionist, 00:33:52.19\00:33:54.93 George Swanson who is a wonderful man. 00:33:54.96\00:33:57.47 And you know, we talk a lot on the program 00:33:57.50\00:33:59.57 about how God sends just the right people 00:33:59.60\00:34:02.34 to Discovery Mountain, that's part of the storyline. 00:34:02.37\00:34:04.97 But He has sent just the right voice actors to us. 00:34:05.01\00:34:08.34 I'm telling you just on the production side 00:34:08.38\00:34:11.21 of this project, we've seen God's hand at work. 00:34:11.25\00:34:15.62 A gal named Lisa. 00:34:15.65\00:34:17.22 She brought her son in to audition for the program. 00:34:17.29\00:34:19.82 She lives in our area. 00:34:19.85\00:34:21.29 And as our director, 00:34:21.32\00:34:22.66 Director Doug often does when parents come in, 00:34:22.69\00:34:24.86 he says, "Mom, why don't you get in the studio 00:34:24.89\00:34:27.10 and audition as well." 00:34:27.13\00:34:29.00 And sometimes, the parents play along 00:34:29.03\00:34:31.03 and she did and she's amazingly talented. 00:34:31.07\00:34:33.94 She does such a wonderful job. 00:34:33.97\00:34:35.97 Who does she play? 00:34:36.00\00:34:37.34 She plays a gal named Allie 00:34:37.41\00:34:39.54 who is part of an historical flashback 00:34:39.57\00:34:42.21 where we talk about pilots... 00:34:42.24\00:34:44.05 Female pilots during World War II. 00:34:44.08\00:34:45.58 Okay. 00:34:45.61\00:34:47.02 And we're going to have her appear again. 00:34:47.05\00:34:48.38 She'll be in other seasons too. 00:34:48.42\00:34:50.42 So God just... 00:34:50.49\00:34:51.92 She had no desire to even audition for the program 00:34:51.95\00:34:54.86 and she's wonderfully talented 00:34:54.89\00:34:56.52 and so that was a really neat way to see 00:34:56.56\00:34:58.79 God's hand at work and sending the right people. 00:34:58.83\00:35:00.93 Amen. Oh, that's wonderful. 00:35:00.96\00:35:03.06 So I would imagine when you do production, 00:35:03.10\00:35:05.17 everything is perfect. 00:35:05.20\00:35:06.84 Nobody ever makes mistakes and it just goes flawless. 00:35:06.87\00:35:10.81 Of course. Is this kind of how it... 00:35:10.84\00:35:12.27 Yeah, that's how production work goes, doesn't it? 00:35:12.31\00:35:16.44 Never any hiccups in production. 00:35:16.48\00:35:17.81 We already at 3ABN, that definitely doesn't happen. 00:35:17.85\00:35:20.02 I know you would know that too, but I think you have 00:35:20.05\00:35:21.78 a special role of bloopers, is that right? 00:35:21.82\00:35:23.69 We do, we do. 00:35:23.72\00:35:25.05 You know, we love to create supplemental video content. 00:35:25.09\00:35:28.26 We go on field trips. 00:35:28.29\00:35:29.62 We do all kinds of fun stuff that's on the website. 00:35:29.66\00:35:31.79 But the favorite thing for kids and older, 00:35:31.83\00:35:34.66 kids at heart to watch is our bloopers, 00:35:34.70\00:35:37.67 and I think this bloopers reel 00:35:37.70\00:35:39.67 that you have is from season two 00:35:39.70\00:35:41.30 if I remember correctly. 00:35:41.34\00:35:42.67 Okay, wonderful. 00:35:42.70\00:35:44.04 Let's take a look at that reel right now. 00:35:44.11\00:35:45.44 Hi, Director Doug here 00:35:48.78\00:35:50.15 with another look behind the scenes 00:35:50.18\00:35:51.81 on how we make a Discovery Mountain program. 00:35:51.85\00:35:54.52 One thing I've really began to appreciate now 00:35:54.55\00:35:57.29 working on several episodes of Discovery Mountain 00:35:57.32\00:35:59.92 is the quality of our actors. 00:35:59.95\00:36:01.92 They've done a fabulous job and you need to keep in mind 00:36:01.96\00:36:04.86 that none of these actors are professional. 00:36:04.89\00:36:07.66 They are either high school students 00:36:07.70\00:36:09.46 or in the case of our adult actors, 00:36:09.50\00:36:12.03 they have other jobs 00:36:12.07\00:36:13.44 and sometimes we even use elementary school students. 00:36:13.47\00:36:16.07 And I think they are doing a fabulous job. 00:36:16.10\00:36:18.41 And the end result shows it. The program sounds terrific. 00:36:18.44\00:36:22.64 But every once in a while, 00:36:22.68\00:36:26.18 things don't always go as planned. 00:36:26.21\00:36:28.82 Why don't you take a look? 00:36:28.85\00:36:32.42 And I have found German... 00:36:32.45\00:36:35.56 Sorry. 00:36:35.59\00:36:38.86 Wait, did you say... 00:36:38.89\00:36:40.23 My dad was surprised when Gadget came home... 00:36:43.97\00:36:48.00 Sorry. 00:36:48.04\00:36:49.90 I had three days to think about, 00:36:49.94\00:36:51.94 let me start little before that... 00:36:51.97\00:36:55.11 Chamomile tea. 00:36:55.14\00:36:57.55 It's a plant. I am Director Doug and... 00:38:14.42\00:38:17.56 And click on the blue... 00:38:17.63\00:38:20.83 When I read the script for the... 00:38:20.90\00:38:22.73 Hi. I am Director Doug. 00:38:25.73\00:38:27.07 I am from Canada... 00:38:27.14\00:38:28.90 What's a trees favorite drink? 00:38:28.94\00:38:31.41 Root beer. 00:38:31.44\00:38:32.77 You know what I love about that is it sounds like 00:38:43.69\00:38:45.65 you all have a great time. 00:38:45.69\00:38:47.06 Oh, absolutely. We have so much fun. 00:38:47.09\00:38:49.52 You can see that, you know, 00:38:49.56\00:38:50.93 they'd like each other and just in the studio 00:38:50.96\00:38:52.76 and having a wonderful time. 00:38:52.79\00:38:54.13 I love that. That's great. 00:38:54.20\00:38:56.03 So how long does it actually take 00:38:56.06\00:38:57.57 because obviously with stopping and restarting? 00:38:57.60\00:38:59.97 How long does it take to do an episode, 00:39:00.04\00:39:01.67 a 28-30 episode? 00:39:01.70\00:39:03.61 That's a really good question. We do them in seasons. 00:39:03.64\00:39:06.04 So a season is either six or ten episodes 00:39:06.07\00:39:09.18 and we block out about ten days to do a season. 00:39:09.21\00:39:12.88 And you know how production goes. 00:39:12.91\00:39:15.25 As I said, all of our voice actors are volunteers 00:39:15.28\00:39:17.65 and so we're working around school schedules, 00:39:17.69\00:39:20.06 we are working around people's work schedules. 00:39:20.09\00:39:22.16 Some days, we go 12 hours, 00:39:22.19\00:39:23.63 some days we go 4 hours in the morning 00:39:23.66\00:39:25.83 and 4 hours in the evening. 00:39:25.86\00:39:27.33 But it's about 10 days of production per season. 00:39:27.40\00:39:30.77 That's wonderful, 00:39:30.80\00:39:32.13 and you're in the middle of season five, right? 00:39:32.17\00:39:33.50 Yes. Okay. 00:39:33.54\00:39:34.87 Now what's the Bible story behind each season? 00:39:34.90\00:39:36.81 I know, I'm putting you on the spot here. 00:39:36.84\00:39:38.64 I know, Moses was in season five, I remember that. 00:39:38.67\00:39:40.88 Yes. What about the other seasons? 00:39:40.91\00:39:42.28 So season one, 00:39:42.31\00:39:43.65 we kind of introduced Discovery Mountain. 00:39:43.68\00:39:45.75 We let the listeners get to know the characters 00:39:45.78\00:39:49.32 and the setting of the story and that Jonah's story. 00:39:49.35\00:39:52.92 So Jake Donovan is running away from something. 00:39:52.95\00:39:55.89 We find out it's his calling from God to serve Him. 00:39:55.92\00:39:58.76 And so we tell the story of Jonah 00:39:58.79\00:40:01.40 which very much fits how Jake Donovan is feeling. 00:40:01.43\00:40:05.10 Season two is a summer camp, 00:40:05.13\00:40:06.77 our first summer camp series which there's one every year. 00:40:06.84\00:40:09.87 And the campers... 00:40:09.90\00:40:11.94 The way we tell the Bible story during summer camp 00:40:11.97\00:40:14.01 is the campers do a production at the end of camp. 00:40:14.08\00:40:17.45 And so, 00:40:17.48\00:40:18.81 throughout they are learning the story of Joseph, 00:40:18.85\00:40:20.52 for season two, and then on the final episode, 00:40:20.55\00:40:23.49 the final night of camp, 00:40:23.52\00:40:24.85 they actually do a production of the story of Joseph. 00:40:24.89\00:40:27.72 So there we were able to talk about competition, 00:40:27.76\00:40:30.33 jealousy with all the brothers. 00:40:30.36\00:40:32.53 Season three is a holiday season. 00:40:32.56\00:40:35.50 So we started with a thankfulness episode 00:40:35.53\00:40:38.17 and then told the story, 00:40:38.20\00:40:39.60 the Christmas story right from the Bible. 00:40:39.63\00:40:41.50 Amen. 00:40:41.54\00:40:42.87 Season four is the story of Esther 00:40:42.90\00:40:45.04 which we talked about a little bit earlier. 00:40:45.07\00:40:47.51 And season five 00:40:47.58\00:40:48.91 is the early part of Moses' life. 00:40:48.94\00:40:51.61 I couldn't quite tackle all of Moses' story in one season. 00:40:51.65\00:40:55.88 But we focused on, you know... 00:40:55.92\00:40:58.49 And the faith of his mother Jochebed, for example. 00:40:58.52\00:41:01.56 She had to give him up 00:41:01.59\00:41:02.92 and then she had the opportunity 00:41:02.96\00:41:04.33 to have that baby in her home 00:41:04.36\00:41:05.83 for a few years to raise him to be a young man, 00:41:05.86\00:41:08.26 and then she sent him off to the palace 00:41:08.30\00:41:10.37 where he made decisions 00:41:10.40\00:41:12.07 based on the faith she instilled in him. 00:41:12.10\00:41:13.97 Amen. 00:41:14.04\00:41:15.37 And then, ongoing, of course, 00:41:15.40\00:41:16.74 we could be here all day if I talked about all of that. 00:41:16.77\00:41:19.31 I was just gonna ask what's coming up in season six 00:41:19.34\00:41:21.54 or you not disclose those trade secrets? 00:41:21.58\00:41:23.85 No, that's okay. Season six. 00:41:23.88\00:41:25.81 I've really enjoyed season six 00:41:25.85\00:41:27.32 because we're doing something a little bit new. 00:41:27.35\00:41:29.52 So we always tell 00:41:29.55\00:41:31.32 the Bible story by kind of reenacting it. 00:41:31.35\00:41:34.26 So we have a voice actress, does the voice of Esther, 00:41:34.29\00:41:36.83 for example. 00:41:36.86\00:41:38.19 In season six, we're doing a historical flashback 00:41:38.23\00:41:40.96 where we talk about 00:41:41.00\00:41:44.77 the female pilots of World War II 00:41:44.80\00:41:47.47 the WASPS which I love that learning that history 00:41:47.54\00:41:50.71 and researching it for the program. 00:41:50.74\00:41:52.07 And it's also in the context of telling 00:41:52.11\00:41:53.98 the Bible story of the Good Samaritan. 00:41:54.01\00:41:56.38 So we actually took one of the parables 00:41:56.41\00:41:58.61 and wove it into a complete season. 00:41:58.65\00:42:01.15 I love that. That's great. 00:42:01.18\00:42:03.12 Oh, okay, so what about... 00:42:03.15\00:42:05.49 If someone saying, I'm a teacher at a school 00:42:05.52\00:42:07.56 and I really like to incorporate 00:42:07.59\00:42:09.19 this into my classroom or I am a homeschooling mom 00:42:09.22\00:42:12.46 and I'd like to incorporate this with my children. 00:42:12.49\00:42:15.86 Do you have extra resources in addition to the audio? 00:42:15.90\00:42:19.03 What you have available? 00:42:19.07\00:42:20.44 Yeah, that's a great question because 00:42:20.47\00:42:21.80 we get a lot of requests for that kind of thing. 00:42:21.84\00:42:23.17 And so that's something 00:42:23.20\00:42:24.54 we're more in the process of developing. 00:42:24.57\00:42:25.97 Right now, we have interactive activities for every season, 00:42:26.01\00:42:29.88 not necessarily every episode, but every season 00:42:29.91\00:42:31.91 which can be downloaded right off of the website. 00:42:31.95\00:42:34.02 And for example, when the freshman class 00:42:34.05\00:42:36.48 at Discovery Mountain Academy 00:42:36.52\00:42:37.89 is learning about the layers of the earth's atmosphere, 00:42:37.92\00:42:40.99 we created a downloadable sheet 00:42:41.02\00:42:42.52 where the listener can then work on learning the layers 00:42:42.56\00:42:46.06 of the earth's atmosphere as well. 00:42:46.09\00:42:47.76 But one thing we're in the process 00:42:47.80\00:42:49.53 of creating is exercise... 00:42:49.56\00:42:52.00 Faith exercise books we're calling them. 00:42:52.03\00:42:53.94 So these are workbooks. 00:42:53.97\00:42:55.50 We don't have one for every season yet, 00:42:55.54\00:42:57.31 but beginning with season four, 00:42:57.34\00:42:59.31 this is a workbook that has activities 00:42:59.34\00:43:02.01 that are geared towards first to third graders 00:43:02.04\00:43:04.98 and then activities that are geared towards 00:43:05.01\00:43:07.52 older elementary school students and throughout. 00:43:07.55\00:43:10.69 There are also coloring pages, so the younger child 00:43:10.72\00:43:13.69 who can't yet read can still listen 00:43:13.76\00:43:16.42 and color the pictures. 00:43:16.46\00:43:17.79 So these exercises just take the Bible verses, 00:43:17.83\00:43:21.50 the faith exercises just to a deeper level. 00:43:21.53\00:43:24.17 Oh, that's great because you know, 00:43:24.20\00:43:25.80 when you get into it, 00:43:25.83\00:43:27.24 you learn more and you retain more. 00:43:27.27\00:43:29.17 It's not just listening to it 00:43:29.20\00:43:30.54 but then they can do these exercises as well. 00:43:30.61\00:43:32.54 Absolutely. Amen. 00:43:32.57\00:43:33.91 That's wonderful. 00:43:33.98\00:43:35.31 So before we move on, 00:43:35.34\00:43:36.68 I know we're almost at the end of the program 00:43:36.71\00:43:38.78 and here before we get to the end, 00:43:38.81\00:43:40.62 we want to make sure we put up the contact information 00:43:40.65\00:43:43.32 for Discovery Mountain so that you can contact them 00:43:43.39\00:43:45.55 and you can get involved in this incredible program 00:43:45.59\00:43:48.56 for children and any age, 00:43:48.59\00:43:50.63 I think it would work for any age group as well, 00:43:50.66\00:43:52.76 but specifically geared for young people. 00:43:52.79\00:43:55.46 But before we do that, and we talk about 00:43:55.50\00:43:57.73 just a little bit about other things 00:43:57.77\00:43:59.10 that are going on at the VOP. 00:43:59.13\00:44:00.47 Okay. 00:44:00.54\00:44:01.87 I want to see, if you don't mind, 00:44:01.90\00:44:03.24 making an appeal to someone at home. 00:44:03.27\00:44:05.27 If there is someone at home 00:44:05.31\00:44:06.78 who says, you know, "I have kids, 00:44:06.81\00:44:09.38 I have grandkids, and I'm worried for them 00:44:09.41\00:44:12.48 and I'm not sure what to do." 00:44:12.51\00:44:14.75 What would you tell them, Jean? 00:44:14.78\00:44:17.39 And that, that really is a burden 00:44:17.42\00:44:19.45 that I hear a lot and I think sometimes 00:44:19.49\00:44:23.06 grandparents particularly, 00:44:23.09\00:44:24.49 they feel like their hands are tied. 00:44:24.53\00:44:26.13 They don't have that day-to-day contact 00:44:26.16\00:44:27.96 with these grandchildren they love and they adore. 00:44:28.00\00:44:31.20 And just sharing their faith, 00:44:31.23\00:44:33.64 finding these easy ways to share faith 00:44:33.67\00:44:37.11 such as Discovery Mountain, 00:44:37.14\00:44:38.47 where a program can be played and you just see if the kids 00:44:38.51\00:44:41.44 perhaps respond to it or not, and it gives you an opportunity 00:44:41.48\00:44:44.38 to talk about the Bible. 00:44:44.41\00:44:45.88 But I would just appeal to the grandparents 00:44:45.91\00:44:48.28 to just consider that a privilege, 00:44:48.32\00:44:51.55 it may feel like 00:44:51.59\00:44:52.92 perhaps a burden to share that faith with those children. 00:44:52.95\00:44:57.43 But it's a privilege to be able to do that. 00:44:57.46\00:45:00.13 And I read something recently in Life Sketches, 00:45:00.20\00:45:04.07 let's see if I have it here, I do, 00:45:04.10\00:45:05.77 where Sister White was meeting with her own grandchildren 00:45:05.80\00:45:10.11 and she had some words that she shared with them, 00:45:10.14\00:45:12.21 and I'd love to just share that with your viewers. 00:45:12.24\00:45:15.04 So this is found in Life Sketches 00:45:15.08\00:45:16.61 and it's a Sabbath afternoon 00:45:16.64\00:45:18.45 and the children of Willie White are gathered, 00:45:18.48\00:45:21.25 and I believe it's later 00:45:21.28\00:45:23.05 in Ellen White's life, and these are the words 00:45:23.08\00:45:25.52 that are recorded for us that she shared. 00:45:25.55\00:45:27.29 She said, "The Lord is very good to us 00:45:27.36\00:45:30.93 and if we follow on to know the Lord, 00:45:30.96\00:45:33.16 we shall know that his going forth 00:45:33.19\00:45:35.13 is prepared as the morning. 00:45:35.16\00:45:37.57 If there is any question in your minds," 00:45:37.60\00:45:39.60 again, she is talking to her grandchildren, 00:45:39.63\00:45:41.54 "any question in your minds in regard to what is right, 00:45:41.57\00:45:44.74 look to the Lord Jesus and He will guide you. 00:45:44.77\00:45:49.08 We should bring every plan to the Lord 00:45:49.11\00:45:51.28 to see if He approves it. 00:45:51.31\00:45:53.05 Remember that the Lord will carry us through. 00:45:53.08\00:45:55.88 I am guarding every moment 00:45:55.92\00:45:57.29 so that nothing may come between me and the Lord. 00:45:57.32\00:46:00.36 I hope there will not. 00:46:00.39\00:46:02.16 God grant that we may all prove faithful. 00:46:02.19\00:46:05.46 There will be a glorious meeting soon. 00:46:05.49\00:46:07.53 I am glad that you have come to see me. 00:46:07.60\00:46:10.17 May the Lord bless you." 00:46:10.20\00:46:11.97 So that she's encouraging this third generation 00:46:12.00\00:46:16.50 that the Lord will carry them through, 00:46:16.54\00:46:19.14 just as He carries each and every one of us through. 00:46:19.17\00:46:21.61 And I just pray that parents and grandparents, 00:46:21.64\00:46:23.35 as we care for these children, 00:46:23.38\00:46:25.88 the Lord will carry us through as well 00:46:25.91\00:46:27.85 and He will provide a way 00:46:27.88\00:46:29.38 for us to lead as He wants us to. 00:46:29.42\00:46:31.52 Amen. That's right. 00:46:31.55\00:46:33.36 You know, God tells us in Isaiah, 00:46:33.39\00:46:35.79 "I will contend with those that content with thee, 00:46:35.82\00:46:37.63 and I will save your children," 00:46:37.66\00:46:39.46 and we could say your grandchildren as well 00:46:39.49\00:46:42.00 because God loves them and He's drawing them 00:46:42.03\00:46:44.63 even now to Himself with those quotes of love. 00:46:44.67\00:46:46.94 He's not willing that any should perish, 00:46:46.97\00:46:49.04 but that all should come to repentance. 00:46:49.07\00:46:51.24 So talk to us just a moment here 00:46:51.27\00:46:53.48 about some other things going on 00:46:53.51\00:46:55.24 at The Voice of Prophecy. 00:46:55.28\00:46:56.61 I know Disclosure would be 00:46:56.64\00:46:57.98 like your flagship program, is that right? 00:46:58.01\00:46:59.35 Yes, yes. That's correct. 00:46:59.38\00:47:00.72 So Disclosure is a weekly one-hour program 00:47:00.75\00:47:03.39 that Shawn and I co-host together. 00:47:03.42\00:47:06.09 We talk about all different things. 00:47:06.12\00:47:08.29 Disclosure, you know, by the name you probably guess, 00:47:08.32\00:47:11.13 we're just looking at issues in the Bible, 00:47:11.16\00:47:13.50 issues in day-to-day life, 00:47:13.53\00:47:15.06 where we can grow our relationship with God, 00:47:15.10\00:47:17.87 and we dig in and sometimes I've asked Shawn 00:47:17.90\00:47:20.94 tough questions that he receives 00:47:20.97\00:47:22.47 during evangelistic meetings 00:47:22.50\00:47:23.91 and he answers them right on the air. 00:47:23.94\00:47:26.41 So those are the kind of things we're doing with Disclosure. 00:47:26.44\00:47:28.51 But when Shawn and I started 00:47:28.54\00:47:30.85 at The Voice of Prophecy in 2013, 00:47:30.88\00:47:33.28 that was an opportunity for us to pray and to talk to God 00:47:33.31\00:47:38.02 about what direction He wanted this ministry 00:47:38.05\00:47:40.59 to go under Shawn's leadership. 00:47:40.66\00:47:42.86 And we really felt impressed that Voice of Prophecy 00:47:42.89\00:47:45.89 was no longer a media ministry but an evangelistic ministry 00:47:45.93\00:47:50.17 that uses media to do the work of evangelism. 00:47:50.20\00:47:52.90 It's good. 00:47:52.93\00:47:54.27 And so we are creating an entire package of resources 00:47:54.30\00:47:57.01 for local churches to use in their communities 00:47:57.04\00:48:00.68 during the pre-work of evangelism, 00:48:00.71\00:48:02.21 during evangelism and during the follow-up phase 00:48:02.24\00:48:04.75 and that's Shawn's portfolio. 00:48:04.78\00:48:07.85 So I can't really speak in detail. 00:48:07.88\00:48:10.22 You might want to have him on the program 00:48:10.29\00:48:11.62 one day to talk about that in detail. 00:48:11.65\00:48:13.15 We will do that. 00:48:13.19\00:48:14.52 But it's called Discovery Centers 00:48:14.56\00:48:16.22 and Discovery Mountain 00:48:16.26\00:48:18.43 is part of that package of resources, 00:48:18.46\00:48:21.23 where the local church can minister to the children 00:48:21.26\00:48:24.07 and families in the community. 00:48:24.10\00:48:25.43 Amen. 00:48:25.47\00:48:26.80 So how has being at The Voice of Prophecy, 00:48:26.84\00:48:29.44 how has that grown you as a woman, as a woman of God, 00:48:29.47\00:48:33.61 how has that grown you spiritually? 00:48:33.68\00:48:35.04 Because I know your kids were younger 00:48:35.08\00:48:36.78 but now they're growing up and you're not need, 00:48:36.85\00:48:39.51 not that you're not needed, that's not the right word, 00:48:39.55\00:48:41.58 but as integrally involved in their lives. 00:48:41.62\00:48:44.39 So how has that grown you? 00:48:44.42\00:48:45.85 Yeah, well, it's been a wonderful journey. 00:48:45.89\00:48:47.99 Our daughters have become young women 00:48:48.02\00:48:49.72 and the parenting at this stage of life is different. 00:48:49.76\00:48:54.00 And it has freed me to do more things 00:48:54.03\00:48:56.77 for women's ministry which I've really enjoyed. 00:48:56.80\00:48:58.83 Amen. 00:48:58.87\00:49:00.24 It's been a wonderful opportunity to fellowship 00:49:00.27\00:49:02.17 with women and to... 00:49:02.20\00:49:04.61 They feed my faith. 00:49:04.64\00:49:06.14 And just really the whole process of taking a ministry 00:49:06.17\00:49:11.05 that has existed for more than 85 years, you know, 00:49:11.08\00:49:13.62 Voice of Prophecy started with H.M.S. Richards, 00:49:13.65\00:49:16.48 wonderful ministry, 00:49:16.52\00:49:17.85 and just to have God lead and guide us in faith 00:49:17.89\00:49:20.96 on the direction 00:49:20.99\00:49:22.42 He wants it to go for the future, moving forward, 00:49:22.46\00:49:25.59 has grown my faith immensely, just immensely 00:49:25.63\00:49:29.60 and we've really had to rely on Him, 00:49:29.63\00:49:32.10 spent time just praying and talking to Him 00:49:32.13\00:49:36.07 and feeling that full reliance on Him in this journey. 00:49:36.10\00:49:39.54 And that's really a wonderful thing. 00:49:39.57\00:49:41.18 Amen, that is incredible. 00:49:41.21\00:49:42.84 Before we put up your address, what I want to do right now 00:49:42.88\00:49:45.38 is just spend just a moment in prayer 00:49:45.41\00:49:48.22 for someone whose children maybe aren't walking with God 00:49:48.25\00:49:52.25 or maybe they are and they say, "I want to make sure that 00:49:52.29\00:49:55.32 they continue walking with God," 00:49:55.36\00:49:56.73 or someone whose maybe even grandchildren aren't. 00:49:56.76\00:49:59.56 So let's just take a moment. 00:49:59.59\00:50:01.10 Wherever you are, if you're driving in the car, 00:50:01.13\00:50:03.77 you can keep your eyes open on the road 00:50:03.80\00:50:05.70 but just in your spirit, bow with us in prayer. 00:50:05.73\00:50:09.30 Holy Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus, 00:50:09.34\00:50:11.94 and we just thank You that we can call You, Abba, Father. 00:50:11.97\00:50:16.04 We thank You that we can come boldly 00:50:16.08\00:50:18.91 before Your throne knowing that we find grace and mercy 00:50:18.95\00:50:23.39 and help in our time of need 00:50:23.42\00:50:25.45 and right now we are praying for our brothers and sisters 00:50:25.49\00:50:28.06 who are watching this program 00:50:28.09\00:50:29.89 or who are listening to this program, 00:50:29.92\00:50:33.03 those who are may be hurting for children or grandchildren. 00:50:33.06\00:50:37.00 Lord, we ask in the name of Jesus, 00:50:37.07\00:50:39.13 that You would put a hedge of protection 00:50:39.17\00:50:41.27 around these children 00:50:41.30\00:50:42.94 that angels that excel in strength 00:50:42.97\00:50:45.64 would be around them that 00:50:45.67\00:50:47.01 You would draw them with Your cords of love, 00:50:47.08\00:50:49.58 draw them back to Yourself, 00:50:49.61\00:50:51.65 and that Satan would not be allowed to have them, 00:50:51.68\00:50:54.68 that they would make decisions for You, 00:50:54.72\00:50:56.72 that You would use Your Word, 00:50:56.79\00:50:59.35 You would use people in their lives, 00:50:59.39\00:51:01.92 their families to speak a word into their lives 00:51:01.96\00:51:05.36 and that they would make a decision for You. 00:51:05.39\00:51:07.50 And that when You come again in the clouds of glory, 00:51:07.53\00:51:10.37 these precious grandparents and parents 00:51:10.40\00:51:13.20 could look up and say, 00:51:13.23\00:51:14.57 "God, we are here with the family 00:51:14.60\00:51:16.71 that You have entrusted to us, 00:51:16.74\00:51:18.87 and we just thank You and give you praise 00:51:18.91\00:51:21.08 in the precious and holy name of Jesus. 00:51:21.11\00:51:23.58 Amen.
