Hi. 00:02:27.01\00:02:28.91 Followed by Dylan King. Mr. King, good to see you. 00:02:28.94\00:02:31.25 Thank you. 00:02:31.28\00:02:32.61 And then Jonathan Suarez, did I do that correctly? 00:02:32.65\00:02:35.15 Yes. I thought I did. 00:02:35.18\00:02:37.49 Hannah Williams and Doh Htoo. 00:02:37.52\00:02:40.26 Doh Htoo? Yeah. 00:02:40.29\00:02:41.62 Okay, praise the Lord. 00:02:41.66\00:02:42.99 Good to have you all here. 00:02:43.02\00:02:44.36 As we said, good looking group of young people, 00:02:44.39\00:02:46.63 all high school students so we're not going to say 00:02:46.70\00:02:48.46 whether they're single or married 00:02:48.50\00:02:49.83 because they're single because they are in high school 00:02:49.86\00:02:51.20 so don't worry about that. 00:02:51.23\00:02:52.83 But we want to talk about evangelism. 00:02:52.87\00:02:54.60 And before we go to our music, 00:02:54.64\00:02:56.30 I want to sort of put the flashlight on you, Mike, 00:02:56.34\00:02:58.41 for just a little bit. 00:02:58.44\00:03:00.38 You are C.R.O.S.S Training Director. 00:03:00.41\00:03:02.44 Walk us through what that acronym is C-R-O-S-S 00:03:02.48\00:03:06.08 and then what your job is, then we'll go to music, 00:03:06.11\00:03:08.95 come back and talk to our young people. 00:03:08.98\00:03:11.09 Sure. 00:03:11.12\00:03:12.45 C.R.O.S.S Training is a term 00:03:12.49\00:03:14.92 that was coined by Sunnydale students. 00:03:14.96\00:03:18.86 Our evangelism program at Sunnydale Academy 00:03:18.89\00:03:22.70 was just something we started back in 2007, 00:03:22.73\00:03:26.57 and we felt like as we moved into the program, 00:03:26.60\00:03:29.77 and it kind of changed and grew every year. 00:03:29.80\00:03:34.01 The students wanted to have a voice in that, 00:03:34.08\00:03:36.88 and they came up with some great ideas of how to name it. 00:03:36.95\00:03:39.88 But they came up with C.R.O.S.S Training. 00:03:39.91\00:03:41.75 And C.R.O.S.S Training is an acronym 00:03:41.78\00:03:43.42 as well as a play on words. 00:03:43.49\00:03:44.82 Yes. 00:03:44.85\00:03:46.19 The acronym is Christians Reaching Out to Save Souls. 00:03:46.22\00:03:49.49 The play on words is that they're doing two things 00:03:49.52\00:03:51.73 at the same time at Sunnydale. 00:03:51.76\00:03:53.26 They're receiving an excellent education, 00:03:53.29\00:03:55.43 preparing them for college, but at the same time, 00:03:55.46\00:03:58.17 they're also learning how to share their faith, 00:03:58.20\00:04:01.57 how to express their joy, and what God has done for them. 00:04:01.60\00:04:05.54 So two things at the same time. 00:04:05.57\00:04:07.38 Is this something, Mike, 00:04:07.41\00:04:08.74 that the student body has bought into sort of readily? 00:04:08.78\00:04:11.18 Did you have to do hard sell, 00:04:11.21\00:04:12.71 was it sort of a natural evolution 00:04:12.75\00:04:14.22 of what they were doing already? 00:04:14.25\00:04:16.35 I think that question may be better ask to our students 00:04:16.38\00:04:19.72 but what the staff is feeling, is the staff at Sunnydale... 00:04:19.75\00:04:25.63 And we could have brought 00:04:25.66\00:04:27.23 any staff member here to talk about this, 00:04:27.30\00:04:29.53 but the staff members are excited about it, 00:04:29.56\00:04:33.13 and I think because of that 00:04:33.17\00:04:34.54 it gives the students permission 00:04:34.57\00:04:36.00 to be excited about it as well. 00:04:36.04\00:04:39.31 It's a very exciting job that I have at Sunnydale Academy. 00:04:39.34\00:04:44.05 Let me ask you how did the mantle fall on you 00:04:44.08\00:04:46.01 to sort of head up this department? 00:04:46.05\00:04:49.35 Well, that's quite a story. 00:04:49.38\00:04:52.79 Originally, I grew up in a construction family. 00:04:52.82\00:04:57.03 No aspirations to work in ministry 00:04:57.06\00:04:59.79 or pastoral ministry or anything of that nature. 00:04:59.83\00:05:04.17 But the Lord's plans are different. 00:05:04.20\00:05:06.20 So a few years ago, my wife and I decided 00:05:06.23\00:05:09.27 that our life was going to change focus. 00:05:09.30\00:05:11.67 We were going to stop the construction company 00:05:11.71\00:05:14.38 that we had build together. 00:05:14.41\00:05:15.74 We were going to give that away, 00:05:15.78\00:05:17.15 and we were going to move in to service for the church. 00:05:17.18\00:05:20.25 We didn't know what that meant? All right. 00:05:20.32\00:05:22.25 But so that began a journey through mission work, 00:05:22.28\00:05:27.46 then coming to Sunnydale Academy and teaching there, 00:05:27.49\00:05:30.93 and then three years ago accepting the position 00:05:30.96\00:05:33.93 as the C.R.O.S.S Training Director. 00:05:34.00\00:05:35.76 Was that, you know, we have these epiphanies in our lives 00:05:35.80\00:05:39.37 that make these radical changes. 00:05:39.40\00:05:40.94 Was it something you felt that 00:05:40.97\00:05:42.30 you just weren't serving enough, 00:05:42.34\00:05:44.64 that you had no idea exactly where you are going to land 00:05:44.67\00:05:46.98 but you are going to make this leap of faith, 00:05:47.01\00:05:48.71 and wherever the Lord sort of put the carpet down 00:05:48.74\00:05:50.58 that's where you are going to land, 00:05:50.65\00:05:51.98 come back to earth, was it a radical thing 00:05:52.01\00:05:53.62 that you and your wife came to together, 00:05:53.65\00:05:55.48 or were you just feeling uncomfortable 00:05:55.52\00:05:57.12 in what you were doing? 00:05:57.19\00:05:59.89 We were blessed. 00:05:59.92\00:06:01.26 The business was successful. 00:06:01.29\00:06:02.69 We had plenty of work in a time 00:06:02.72\00:06:04.36 when construction was slowing down. 00:06:04.39\00:06:06.36 We didn't experience that, 00:06:06.39\00:06:07.73 so we felt like the Lord was blessing us, but both of us... 00:06:07.76\00:06:10.57 And this is the awesome God that we serve my wife and I, 00:06:10.60\00:06:15.40 individually, separately begin to feel 00:06:15.44\00:06:18.61 that something wasn't quite right in our lives. 00:06:18.64\00:06:22.24 And a couple of weeks went by, we came together 00:06:22.28\00:06:25.28 and we actually shared with each other 00:06:25.31\00:06:27.12 what we were feeling that something isn't right. 00:06:27.15\00:06:31.72 And from that discussion and prayer, 00:06:31.75\00:06:34.49 we realized that it was time to serve God more completely 00:06:34.52\00:06:39.36 in a different capacity than we were. 00:06:39.39\00:06:42.06 We were active church members at the time. 00:06:42.10\00:06:44.40 We actually made an agreement with each other 00:06:44.43\00:06:46.20 that when the church or when ministry call on us, 00:06:46.23\00:06:50.21 we would say yes. 00:06:50.24\00:06:52.47 We had a very busy couple of years 00:06:52.51\00:06:55.04 because whenever the church asked us to do something, 00:06:55.08\00:06:57.05 we said yes. 00:06:57.08\00:06:58.75 But out of that came this idea that that our lives were 00:06:58.78\00:07:02.78 one for service and one for ministry. 00:07:02.82\00:07:05.45 It does confirm the idea, the notion, 00:07:05.49\00:07:08.92 given, we understand that you arrived 00:07:08.96\00:07:10.93 at this feeling independently, 00:07:10.96\00:07:12.63 wasn't something you have to talk her into 00:07:12.66\00:07:14.00 or she would talk you into, 00:07:14.03\00:07:15.36 the Lord sort of put the burden on your hearts independently, 00:07:15.40\00:07:17.50 and when you came together 00:07:17.57\00:07:19.07 the seeds are already been planted? 00:07:19.10\00:07:20.44 Absolutely. 00:07:20.47\00:07:21.80 And there is nothing more encouraging to know 00:07:21.84\00:07:23.17 that God is leading something. 00:07:23.20\00:07:24.54 Yes. 00:07:24.57\00:07:25.91 When you have that assurance, the confidence just skyrockets. 00:07:25.94\00:07:28.91 Yeah, yeah. Makes it fun. 00:07:28.94\00:07:30.28 I tell you, it also insulates you against 00:07:30.35\00:07:32.28 when the bumps in a road come. 00:07:32.31\00:07:34.38 In fact, you know, that the Lord has put you here 00:07:34.42\00:07:36.89 so you can kind of weather that storm 00:07:36.92\00:07:38.25 because, you know, this is what God wants you to do. 00:07:38.29\00:07:39.95 Right. Yeah. 00:07:39.99\00:07:41.32 He makes the promises that He'll always be there. 00:07:41.36\00:07:43.12 Precisely. Precisely. Yeah. 00:07:43.16\00:07:44.96 All right, we're going to talk to our young people 00:07:44.99\00:07:46.59 in just a little bit. 00:07:46.63\00:07:47.96 But we want to go to our music just now. 00:07:48.00\00:07:50.37 Our music is coming from just a good friend of this ministry 00:07:50.40\00:07:54.44 and of this program, 00:07:54.47\00:07:56.24 Sandra Entermann who is just a lovely person 00:07:56.27\00:08:00.31 and who God has blessed with a beautiful voice 00:08:00.38\00:08:02.71 and a beautiful countenance. 00:08:02.74\00:08:04.08 And she's going to be singing that "That's The Day." 00:08:04.15\00:08:07.78 There are burdens that I carry everyday 00:08:26.37\00:08:33.78 Sometimes they make me want to cry 00:08:33.81\00:08:41.62 Hopeless feelings harbored deep inside my heart 00:08:41.65\00:08:48.09 And I find it hard to hold my head up high 00:08:48.12\00:08:53.90 But in the middle of the darkness in my life 00:08:57.17\00:09:04.77 I find a strength to carry on 00:09:04.81\00:09:12.51 Because I am holding to a promise Jesus made 00:09:12.55\00:09:19.15 And I know it won't be long 'til we'll be gone 00:09:19.19\00:09:25.06 In a while, we'll be gone 00:09:28.46\00:09:35.07 And we won't have to cry 00:09:35.10\00:09:38.81 Anymore 00:09:38.84\00:09:44.38 All our sorrows 00:09:44.41\00:09:46.48 Left behind 00:09:46.51\00:09:52.42 And that's the day that I am waiting for 00:09:52.45\00:10:00.00 And that's the day that I am longing for 00:10:00.03\00:10:07.14 And if you feel there is no meaning in your life 00:10:11.87\00:10:19.88 And it seems you've lost your way 00:10:19.91\00:10:24.12 Listen closely to the voice's deep inside 00:10:27.66\00:10:34.30 And remember what the Savior has to say 00:10:34.33\00:10:39.97 In a while we'll be gone 00:10:43.04\00:10:50.18 We won't have to cry 00:10:50.25\00:10:53.92 Anymore 00:10:53.95\00:10:59.35 All our sorrows left behind 00:10:59.39\00:11:07.30 That's the day that I am waiting for 00:11:07.33\00:11:15.04 And that's the day that I am longing for 00:11:15.07\00:11:19.84 When Jesus comes to take me home 00:11:34.56\00:11:41.00 Well done, beautifully sung. 00:11:45.90\00:11:47.54 I'm here with the students 00:11:47.57\00:11:49.90 and the C.R.O.S.S Training Director 00:11:49.94\00:11:51.27 from Sunnydale Academy. 00:11:51.31\00:11:52.64 We run through the names quickly. 00:11:52.67\00:11:54.01 This is Mike, Gracie, Dylan, 00:11:54.08\00:11:56.78 Jonathan, Hannah, and Doh. 00:11:56.85\00:12:00.32 Praise the Lord. Praise the Lord. 00:12:00.35\00:12:02.38 I want to go right to Gracie. 00:12:02.42\00:12:06.02 Where're you from? 00:12:06.05\00:12:07.39 I'm originally from Florida. 00:12:07.46\00:12:09.59 And I was born and raised there. 00:12:09.62\00:12:11.43 And my family moved to Missouri after my freshman year. 00:12:11.46\00:12:15.06 So... 00:12:15.10\00:12:16.43 So you're now currently from Missouri. 00:12:16.46\00:12:19.10 What year in school? 00:12:19.13\00:12:20.47 I'm a senior. You're a senior. 00:12:20.54\00:12:21.87 Yes. Almost gone. 00:12:21.90\00:12:23.81 Almost. Yeah, praise the Lord. 00:12:23.84\00:12:27.88 Tell me what the C.R.O.S.S Training idea means to you? 00:12:27.91\00:12:33.62 Why is that an important part of what you are doing? 00:12:33.65\00:12:35.62 Because that it's part of your student life, 00:12:35.65\00:12:37.65 it takes from your student life, 00:12:37.69\00:12:39.02 you got to devote time to it, why do you do that? 00:12:39.05\00:12:41.32 Right. 00:12:41.36\00:12:42.79 I strongly believe that C.R.O.S.S Training is, 00:12:42.82\00:12:46.09 it has to do with making us disciples. 00:12:46.13\00:12:49.03 I think it's a lot about discipleship. 00:12:49.06\00:12:50.87 And in the classroom, 00:12:50.90\00:12:52.23 we learn these skills in order to become disciples 00:12:52.27\00:12:54.74 outside of the classroom. 00:12:54.77\00:12:57.31 So you see your education 00:12:57.34\00:12:58.67 as really just equipping you to be a more effective tool? 00:12:58.71\00:13:01.41 Yes. Yeah. 00:13:01.44\00:13:02.78 What have you participated in 00:13:02.81\00:13:04.55 as far as C.R.O.S.S Training is concerned? 00:13:04.58\00:13:08.02 I would say a good example is in English class 00:13:08.05\00:13:11.02 when we do our peer reviews for our essays. 00:13:11.05\00:13:14.92 Our teacher has us find a partner 00:13:14.96\00:13:17.96 and trade papers with them 00:13:17.99\00:13:20.00 and we help each other out in finding mistakes 00:13:20.03\00:13:22.00 that we didn't see ourselves, 00:13:22.03\00:13:23.70 you know, getting that other's perspective from our peers. 00:13:23.77\00:13:27.07 And that kind of reminds me 00:13:27.14\00:13:29.87 of how we help each other out spiritually, 00:13:29.90\00:13:32.44 we try to show each other different perspectives 00:13:32.47\00:13:37.38 because we don't all see the same way. 00:13:37.45\00:13:38.78 Yeah, yeah. 00:13:38.81\00:13:40.15 As most of your experience 00:13:40.22\00:13:41.55 as far as evangelism is concerned 00:13:41.58\00:13:43.69 being on campus 00:13:43.72\00:13:45.05 or have you done some off campus things also? 00:13:45.09\00:13:47.09 I've definitely done both. 00:13:47.16\00:13:48.66 I think I started off on campus, 00:13:48.69\00:13:51.63 but this year I was able to go to Africa 00:13:51.66\00:13:54.53 and do not just off campus, 00:13:54.56\00:13:57.00 but out of the country, which was really wonderful. 00:13:57.07\00:13:59.93 Yeah. 00:13:59.97\00:14:01.30 Give me some perspective of Gracie before Africa 00:14:01.34\00:14:06.01 and Gracie post Africa? 00:14:06.04\00:14:08.21 How did the Africa experience impact and change your life? 00:14:08.24\00:14:13.62 I think God prepared me a lot beforehand. 00:14:13.65\00:14:18.55 I don't think I would have been ready 00:14:18.59\00:14:19.92 if He hadn't presented opportunities on campus. 00:14:19.95\00:14:25.03 For example, being on prayers team 00:14:25.06\00:14:30.97 and helping out in the dorm, 00:14:31.00\00:14:33.84 with my peers with other students, 00:14:33.87\00:14:37.51 reaching out to them personally, 00:14:37.54\00:14:39.51 and that really prepared me 00:14:39.54\00:14:41.84 because I'm a more personal person, 00:14:41.88\00:14:43.75 I work better with people that I know. 00:14:43.78\00:14:45.58 And going to Africa and meeting all these other people 00:14:45.61\00:14:48.32 that I've never seen before 00:14:48.35\00:14:49.68 that was outside of my comfort zone at the time. 00:14:49.72\00:14:52.19 And I think another aspect of C.R.O.S.S Training 00:14:52.22\00:14:55.12 is getting us outside of our comfort zone 00:14:55.16\00:14:57.16 and expanding our circle, you know? 00:14:57.23\00:14:59.53 So the Africa experience stretched you a little bit? 00:14:59.56\00:15:02.03 Yes. 00:15:02.06\00:15:03.40 Yeah, you came back different I suspect. 00:15:03.47\00:15:06.33 The rest of you, you actually do get to talk. 00:15:06.37\00:15:08.07 I'm coming to you. 00:15:08.10\00:15:10.31 I want to go to Dylan 00:15:10.34\00:15:11.67 because I want to hear from you all before our time goes, 00:15:11.71\00:15:13.61 and I've got some other questions. 00:15:13.68\00:15:15.01 I want to ask you at what part of C.R.O.S.S Training 00:15:15.04\00:15:17.45 did you particularly work in, Dylan? 00:15:17.48\00:15:21.15 Well, I've worked 00:15:21.18\00:15:22.52 in a couple of different parts of C.R.O.S.S Training. 00:15:22.55\00:15:27.19 I currently work for the Bible teacher, 00:15:27.26\00:15:30.76 and I help him preparing Sabbath school 00:15:30.83\00:15:37.07 and just activities for the other students 00:15:37.10\00:15:41.70 to take part in. 00:15:41.74\00:15:43.81 I have also traveled 00:15:43.84\00:15:45.41 to different churches in Missouri 00:15:45.44\00:15:48.11 and preached, and helped, tell stories, 00:15:48.14\00:15:52.75 and talk about Sunnydale and C.R.O.S.S Training. 00:15:52.78\00:15:56.69 In my sophomore year, 00:15:56.72\00:15:58.12 I went to Africa 00:15:58.15\00:15:59.99 and preached on the series there and... 00:16:00.06\00:16:06.56 Is that the picture of you in Africa 00:16:06.59\00:16:07.93 or is that just you speaking at Sunnydale? 00:16:07.96\00:16:09.80 No, that is a picture of me speaking at a different church. 00:16:09.83\00:16:15.97 I believe that's... 00:16:16.00\00:16:17.51 I'm not quite sure what church that is. 00:16:20.81\00:16:23.55 I believe that Sullivan, Missouri, I believe. 00:16:23.58\00:16:26.41 Dylan is a pillar at Sunnydale spiritually. 00:16:26.45\00:16:29.62 He's been modest. He preaches often. 00:16:29.65\00:16:32.79 He has a wonderful testimony, 00:16:32.82\00:16:34.16 he does a fantastic job with that. 00:16:34.19\00:16:35.52 Praise the Lord. 00:16:35.56\00:16:36.93 He's been to so many churches, he looks at a picture 00:16:36.96\00:16:39.09 that probably all were together a little bit. 00:16:39.13\00:16:41.66 And we praise the Lord before that. 00:16:41.70\00:16:43.10 You are in what year, Dylan? 00:16:43.13\00:16:44.93 I'm a senior. A senior? 00:16:44.97\00:16:46.57 Do you want to go into ministry? 00:16:46.60\00:16:48.00 Are you thinking of pastoring? 00:16:48.04\00:16:50.54 When I went to Africa, 00:16:50.61\00:16:51.94 I just got this feeling that I'm doing something that 00:16:51.97\00:16:57.95 I want to keep doing and keep serving God. 00:16:57.98\00:17:02.32 And for a long time, ever since my sophomore year, 00:17:02.35\00:17:07.79 when I went I felt like I wanted to become a pastor. 00:17:07.82\00:17:13.33 And this year however, I have been... 00:17:13.40\00:17:16.67 I'm looking at other options 00:17:16.70\00:17:18.87 and I realize that not only do I like sharing the gospel, 00:17:18.90\00:17:23.81 but I like working with people 00:17:23.84\00:17:26.78 and the idea of helping people not only spiritually, 00:17:26.81\00:17:31.48 but emotionally just encouraging them. 00:17:31.51\00:17:34.72 So I have been looking at 00:17:34.75\00:17:38.29 different options like counseling, 00:17:38.32\00:17:40.06 or being an advisor for a Shelton workshop. 00:17:40.09\00:17:46.19 There are many ways you can incorporate that call 00:17:46.23\00:17:48.46 that's on your life pastor, pastor evangelist, 00:17:48.50\00:17:51.77 pastor evangelist counselor, 00:17:51.80\00:17:53.13 pastor evangelist counselor psychologist, 00:17:53.17\00:17:55.27 you know, there's a lot of different facets 00:17:55.30\00:17:57.41 that you can use. 00:17:57.44\00:17:58.77 And I'm sure the Lord will kind of make it plain to you 00:17:58.81\00:18:00.31 as you, you know, as you go. 00:18:00.38\00:18:03.55 Yonathan! 00:18:03.58\00:18:04.91 Yes. 00:18:04.95\00:18:06.28 Where are you from? 00:18:06.31\00:18:07.78 I was born in Michigan. 00:18:07.82\00:18:09.98 I just moved two years ago to Kansas City, Missouri. 00:18:10.02\00:18:12.89 I see. 00:18:12.92\00:18:14.36 And you are in what year? 00:18:14.39\00:18:15.72 I'm a junior. A junior? 00:18:15.76\00:18:17.13 Okay, you got one more year to go. 00:18:17.16\00:18:18.76 Why did you particularly get involved in C.R.O.S.S Training? 00:18:18.79\00:18:21.60 C.R.O.S.S Training for me it didn't... 00:18:24.67\00:18:28.30 It wasn't me looking for C.R.O.S.S Training, 00:18:28.34\00:18:30.81 it's just opportunities just kind of presented themselves. 00:18:30.84\00:18:33.98 And C.R.O.S.S Training 00:18:34.01\00:18:35.34 is an everyday thing at Sunnydale. 00:18:35.38\00:18:37.15 And you get used to, 00:18:37.18\00:18:39.35 you get used to being asked to do different things 00:18:39.38\00:18:42.98 that you normally wouldn't have thought off. 00:18:43.02\00:18:44.35 So C.R.O.S.S Training for me came through the teachers 00:18:44.39\00:18:48.69 and other older students coming to me 00:18:48.72\00:18:51.33 and asking for me to help out with some stuff. 00:18:51.36\00:18:56.33 Before I go to Hannah, 00:18:56.36\00:18:57.70 Mike, I want to come back to you just a second 00:18:57.73\00:18:59.07 because it looks like, 00:18:59.10\00:19:00.44 and we talked about this a little bit 00:19:00.47\00:19:01.80 before that you are trying to create a culture 00:19:01.84\00:19:04.84 of service and evangelism. 00:19:04.87\00:19:06.81 Talk to me a little bit about that 00:19:06.88\00:19:08.41 what I'm perceiving as a cultural service, 00:19:08.44\00:19:10.55 so it's not something you kind of 00:19:10.58\00:19:11.91 sign it for or step into, 00:19:11.95\00:19:13.42 but there is this culture of service 00:19:13.45\00:19:16.99 that sort of move the students in a certain direction, 00:19:17.02\00:19:19.42 is that not so? 00:19:19.45\00:19:20.79 Yeah, so the first thing we have to recognize 00:19:20.86\00:19:23.32 is that this idea of service to others comes from God, 00:19:23.36\00:19:28.43 that is not a human characteristic. 00:19:28.46\00:19:30.50 So first thing we have to do is allow God to do work in us. 00:19:30.57\00:19:33.94 We have to recognize that. 00:19:33.97\00:19:35.50 But what Yonathan is referring to 00:19:35.54\00:19:37.24 is that Sunnydale is a place 00:19:37.31\00:19:38.64 where we want C.R.O.S.S Training, 00:19:38.67\00:19:40.31 or the idea of service to the others, 00:19:40.38\00:19:42.08 or the idea of sharing your faith 00:19:42.11\00:19:43.65 and we want that to permeate everything that we do. 00:19:43.68\00:19:47.68 We encourage it as the staff, we design programming for. 00:19:47.72\00:19:51.39 But the reality is that the students buy into it. 00:19:51.42\00:19:55.42 The students are comfortable with it. 00:19:55.46\00:19:57.93 They step up and even outside of staff involvement, 00:19:57.96\00:20:04.10 he mentioned, older students coming to him. 00:20:04.17\00:20:07.27 He's got to remember, he's now a junior. 00:20:07.34\00:20:08.80 He is one of the older students. 00:20:08.84\00:20:12.37 But it's the idea that something 00:20:12.41\00:20:15.11 that's very natural organic ongoing. 00:20:15.14\00:20:19.38 So God is just so good, so wonderful. 00:20:19.41\00:20:24.55 As broken people, He allows us to serve, 00:20:24.59\00:20:29.19 He makes us whole again, you know. 00:20:29.22\00:20:32.36 And at Sunnydale we're teachers, 00:20:32.39\00:20:34.73 we're human beings, 00:20:34.76\00:20:37.07 and we get to work with great young people 00:20:37.10\00:20:39.57 who are quick to volunteer, 00:20:39.60\00:20:41.60 quick to do things that benefits someone else. 00:20:41.64\00:20:45.01 Yeah, walk me through, Mike, how this work in, 00:20:45.04\00:20:47.28 is it a program that the students sign up for? 00:20:47.31\00:20:50.95 Or it's just part of the, 00:20:50.98\00:20:53.18 you know, the flavor of the campus? 00:20:53.21\00:20:55.55 How do you... 00:20:55.58\00:20:57.59 Is most of the campus involved in this? 00:20:57.62\00:20:59.65 Or most of the students doing this? 00:20:59.69\00:21:02.52 You know, how does that function day to day? 00:21:02.56\00:21:04.36 Right, so it's a program in the sense that 00:21:04.39\00:21:08.86 we define it as a program. 00:21:08.90\00:21:12.17 Everything that I do, the students volunteer, 00:21:12.20\00:21:15.50 to participate in this idea of C.R.O.S.S Training. 00:21:15.54\00:21:20.98 So for example, we have students that go out every day, 00:21:21.01\00:21:24.28 and they meet with elderly in the community 00:21:24.31\00:21:26.82 and they spend time with them. 00:21:26.85\00:21:28.35 Okay, they volunteer to do that that is part of their choice. 00:21:28.38\00:21:32.55 It's not something we force them to do this 00:21:32.59\00:21:35.29 or an attendance taken or anything. 00:21:35.32\00:21:37.03 So we do have a program, we provide that, 00:21:37.06\00:21:41.36 but the student chooses to be part of those opportunities. 00:21:41.40\00:21:44.43 Understood. 00:21:44.47\00:21:45.80 And it takes place in two places, the classroom, 00:21:45.83\00:21:48.20 so all of our teachers 00:21:48.24\00:21:50.04 or instructors in the school of evangelism, 00:21:50.11\00:21:52.47 meaning our math teacher, 00:21:52.51\00:21:54.08 she's going to tie in some sort of evangelistic method 00:21:54.11\00:21:57.35 to what she teaches. 00:21:57.38\00:21:58.71 Science, obviously with the discussion about creation 00:21:58.75\00:22:01.95 and what that means in today's society, 00:22:01.98\00:22:04.82 that's incorporated into the classroom. 00:22:04.85\00:22:06.86 Music is an easy one. Yeah. 00:22:06.89\00:22:09.56 All those things. 00:22:09.59\00:22:10.93 Gracie mentioned English class. 00:22:10.96\00:22:12.96 So the classroom portion of C.R.O.S.S Training 00:22:12.99\00:22:16.87 isn't separate classes, 00:22:16.90\00:22:18.60 isn't outside of what we're already doing 00:22:18.63\00:22:20.97 but the practical aspects. 00:22:21.00\00:22:23.44 Dylan mentioned going to churches. 00:22:23.51\00:22:25.81 We provide an opportunity... 00:22:25.84\00:22:28.08 We create worship teams. 00:22:28.11\00:22:29.48 And small groups of students can go out on the weekends 00:22:29.51\00:22:32.75 and participate with worship with other churches, 00:22:32.78\00:22:36.15 so that's just a small example 00:22:36.18\00:22:38.29 of opportunity to volunteer to join in. 00:22:38.32\00:22:41.39 So when we talk about culture 00:22:41.42\00:22:42.76 so the idea of service of C.R.O.S.S Training 00:22:42.79\00:22:45.13 is sort of interwoven into all the disciplines 00:22:45.16\00:22:47.66 in all of the classes and all of the curriculum, 00:22:47.70\00:22:50.17 it's all sort of blended 00:22:50.20\00:22:52.87 for one of a better term together? 00:22:52.90\00:22:54.74 By the grace of God. Yeah. 00:22:54.77\00:22:56.17 By the grace of God, yes. That is the goal. 00:22:56.20\00:22:58.17 That is the goal. Okay. 00:22:58.21\00:22:59.54 Praise the Lord. That's exciting. That's exciting. 00:22:59.57\00:23:01.61 Is this something that you see 00:23:01.64\00:23:03.85 as a move of God on all campuses? 00:23:03.88\00:23:06.18 Is this particular to what Sunnydale is doing, 00:23:06.21\00:23:08.85 or academies as you know that are moving in this direction, 00:23:08.88\00:23:12.52 or you sort of groundbreaking some new ground here? 00:23:12.55\00:23:16.49 I can't speak about every academy. 00:23:16.52\00:23:18.36 I have friends that work in different institutions 00:23:18.39\00:23:21.10 around the Midwest. 00:23:21.13\00:23:22.86 And there are different types 00:23:22.90\00:23:24.43 of the same philosophy happening. 00:23:24.47\00:23:27.14 Different name, different, you know... 00:23:27.17\00:23:29.10 But I think there's a grassroots movement 00:23:29.14\00:23:32.61 that our faith, our religion, our beliefs have to be dynamic, 00:23:32.64\00:23:37.88 they have to be active. 00:23:37.91\00:23:41.48 We just had a week of prayer speaker on our campus, 00:23:41.52\00:23:43.32 and he talked about the happiness 00:23:43.39\00:23:46.12 that comes from heaven, 00:23:46.15\00:23:48.66 it escapes out of us as joy, you know. 00:23:48.69\00:23:51.79 And so the idea that there has to be a result 00:23:51.83\00:23:55.43 of this wonderful gift of salvation 00:23:55.46\00:23:57.77 that we accept there has to be result of that, 00:23:57.80\00:24:00.04 so I think that's happening all over. 00:24:00.07\00:24:02.67 I'm praying that that is happening all over. 00:24:02.70\00:24:04.64 Yeah, do you see this philosophy 00:24:04.67\00:24:08.11 having a positive effect 00:24:08.14\00:24:10.68 on the student body as a whole? 00:24:10.75\00:24:14.88 Well, again, that's a question probably better for them 00:24:14.92\00:24:19.15 because students talk more openly with students, 00:24:19.19\00:24:22.06 lets be honest. 00:24:22.09\00:24:23.43 The teachers don't always hear the real stuff. 00:24:23.46\00:24:29.46 I would like to challenge the students 00:24:29.50\00:24:31.03 to answer that question on what they see 00:24:31.07\00:24:34.07 as the effect of C.R.O.S.S Training in our campus. 00:24:34.14\00:24:35.94 Okay, since the stoplight is now on Hannah, 00:24:35.97\00:24:39.11 maybe we can... 00:24:39.14\00:24:40.61 First of all, you are from where, Hannah? 00:24:40.68\00:24:42.81 I'm from originally from St. Louis, 00:24:42.84\00:24:45.58 but now I live in Columbia, Missouri. 00:24:45.61\00:24:47.02 Oh, I see. And what year in school? 00:24:47.05\00:24:48.72 I'm a junior. 00:24:48.75\00:24:50.09 Okay, talk to me a little about the flavor of the campus 00:24:50.12\00:24:53.99 with this evangelistic mindset 00:24:54.06\00:24:56.49 sort of undergirding all that you do. 00:24:56.52\00:24:59.43 How has that impacted student life on campus? 00:24:59.46\00:25:02.70 It definitely has impacted student life 00:25:02.73\00:25:05.00 especially as a whole 00:25:05.03\00:25:06.67 because a lot of times we volunteer 00:25:06.74\00:25:09.90 or other students will get involved. 00:25:09.94\00:25:11.84 And I know, I'm involved a lot in music with praise teams, 00:25:11.87\00:25:15.51 especially over mission trips so my... 00:25:15.54\00:25:18.91 I'm kind of put in charge of getting others students 00:25:18.95\00:25:21.05 involved to help me out with. 00:25:21.08\00:25:22.55 Praise teams or whether going off campus and singing, 00:25:22.58\00:25:25.42 and nursing homes or doing whatever. 00:25:25.45\00:25:29.26 And that kind of gets the whole student body involved. 00:25:29.29\00:25:33.60 And it impacts everybody 00:25:33.63\00:25:35.16 because we'll do praise teams for church 00:25:35.20\00:25:37.27 and other people see and say, "Oh, I want to do praise team." 00:25:37.30\00:25:40.97 And it's just kind of gets everybody involved. 00:25:41.00\00:25:42.64 And it definitely has impacted the whole campus, I feel like. 00:25:42.67\00:25:45.24 Very cool. 00:25:45.27\00:25:46.61 I saw at the corner of my eye, they put up a picture 00:25:46.68\00:25:48.28 while you were talking part of the praise team. 00:25:48.31\00:25:50.68 So is that sort of... 00:25:50.75\00:25:52.48 Where you sort of fit and function praise team, 00:25:52.51\00:25:54.52 it's kind of your thing. 00:25:54.55\00:25:55.88 Yeah, I play guitar. 00:25:55.92\00:25:57.29 I've played guitar for about 10 years now. 00:25:57.32\00:25:58.89 So I'm one of Pastor Eric's main guitarist, he tells me. 00:25:58.92\00:26:03.63 But, yeah, I love doing praise teams. 00:26:03.66\00:26:07.00 I did them over mission trips, which was a huge blessing, 00:26:07.03\00:26:10.30 it was so much fun. 00:26:10.37\00:26:11.80 I mean, doing praise teams at school is fun, 00:26:11.83\00:26:13.94 but doing them over mission trips 00:26:13.97\00:26:15.80 with other kids 00:26:15.84\00:26:17.21 and kind of getting them involved, 00:26:17.24\00:26:18.57 getting them hyped up in the songs 00:26:18.61\00:26:20.48 or whatever we're doing is so much fun for me 00:26:20.51\00:26:22.84 to see them just kind of light up, 00:26:22.88\00:26:24.91 it's a lot of fun. 00:26:24.95\00:26:26.28 Now you've done 00:26:26.31\00:26:27.65 some off campus mission work, haven't you? 00:26:27.68\00:26:29.58 Yeah. Where? 00:26:29.62\00:26:31.45 Where? 00:26:31.49\00:26:32.82 I have done at other churches, 00:26:32.85\00:26:36.19 and I've also done at nursing homes. 00:26:36.22\00:26:37.86 So there's been a couple of Sabbaths in the year 00:26:37.89\00:26:41.10 where Pastor Eric or whoever, 00:26:41.13\00:26:43.40 it will be Mr. Needles will get together 00:26:43.47\00:26:45.17 a group of people to do a praise team 00:26:45.20\00:26:48.07 or just sing a couple of songs. 00:26:48.10\00:26:50.01 In the afternoon, after church so after lunch we'll load up, 00:26:50.04\00:26:53.07 we will get our crew together, 00:26:53.11\00:26:54.44 and then we will go and we'll sing. 00:26:54.48\00:26:55.81 And it's so much fun 00:26:55.84\00:26:57.18 because the elderly people love that 00:26:57.25\00:26:59.15 because they don't get that very much, 00:26:59.18\00:27:00.98 and they love that interaction 00:27:01.02\00:27:02.82 and to know that there's other people 00:27:02.85\00:27:04.29 around them who want to, I don't know, 00:27:04.32\00:27:08.16 just kind of get them involved in and sing with them, 00:27:08.19\00:27:10.73 and talk to them, and get to know them. 00:27:10.76\00:27:12.73 From listening to what you say, 00:27:12.76\00:27:14.43 it seems as though there is an addictive aspect 00:27:14.46\00:27:18.03 to this kind of service, 00:27:18.07\00:27:19.40 it's something that really kind of gets into your psyche, 00:27:19.43\00:27:21.87 into your mindset, is that so? 00:27:21.90\00:27:23.27 Yeah, very much so, I think so. 00:27:23.30\00:27:24.97 I mean, for me at least definitely 00:27:25.01\00:27:26.88 because I love playing guitar 00:27:26.91\00:27:28.58 and so playing for other people, 00:27:28.61\00:27:30.35 it's a joy to see me be able to bring other people joy, 00:27:30.38\00:27:33.85 especially if they are down. 00:27:33.92\00:27:35.52 When we're singing songs 00:27:35.55\00:27:36.99 and especially because I worked, 00:27:37.02\00:27:38.62 I worked at a Camp Heritage in Iowa-Missouri Conference. 00:27:38.65\00:27:42.69 And so I've done a lot of camp songs. 00:27:42.72\00:27:44.59 And to be able to do camp songs with like little kids 00:27:44.63\00:27:47.20 and see them really light up, 00:27:47.23\00:27:48.56 it's so much fun because they get so into it. 00:27:48.60\00:27:51.30 Yeah... Yeah. 00:27:51.33\00:27:52.67 Now you went on. I'm coming to you, Mike. 00:27:52.70\00:27:54.44 You went on a specific mission trip 00:27:54.47\00:27:56.10 sometime ago, did you not? 00:27:56.14\00:27:57.74 Where was that? La Vida, New Mexico. 00:27:57.77\00:28:00.98 And it's La Vida Mission School, 00:28:01.01\00:28:03.21 it's a self-supporting school, 00:28:03.24\00:28:06.15 and it's on a Navajo Reservation. 00:28:06.18\00:28:08.62 So we went there, and we did construction work, 00:28:08.65\00:28:11.45 we also did preaching, we did vespers, 00:28:11.49\00:28:15.29 we did morning worships 00:28:15.32\00:28:16.66 and nightly worships with the kids 00:28:16.73\00:28:18.16 and with the staff as well. 00:28:18.19\00:28:19.86 And we also, we were able to help inside the classrooms, 00:28:19.89\00:28:23.26 we were able to help inside the cafe 00:28:23.30\00:28:26.47 and wherever else they needed us really 00:28:26.50\00:28:28.44 and that was a huge blessing to me. 00:28:28.47\00:28:29.84 How long was that mission trip? That was about a week. 00:28:29.87\00:28:31.74 About a week? Yeah. 00:28:31.77\00:28:33.11 Okay, okay. 00:28:33.14\00:28:35.78 In doing things on campus, 00:28:35.81\00:28:38.71 there is one feeling but going off 00:28:38.75\00:28:41.28 and sort of working for the Lord 00:28:41.32\00:28:42.78 in that kind of setting, 00:28:42.82\00:28:44.85 little bit different, wasn't it? 00:28:44.89\00:28:46.22 Yeah, for sure. 00:28:46.25\00:28:47.59 'Cause when you are on campus, 00:28:47.66\00:28:48.99 you have the staff kind of like helping you. 00:28:49.02\00:28:50.63 And the C.R.O.S.S Training trains you 00:28:50.66\00:28:52.59 to be able to go out and do those things. 00:28:52.63\00:28:54.96 So when I went out on the mission trip, 00:28:55.00\00:28:56.53 it was kind of like, 00:28:56.56\00:28:57.90 "You are on your own, you got this." 00:28:57.93\00:28:59.27 Like kind of more of you and Jesus. 00:28:59.30\00:29:00.64 We trained you. So yeah, so... 00:29:00.67\00:29:02.64 It was definitely a great experience though, 00:29:02.67\00:29:04.54 it was so much fun. 00:29:04.57\00:29:05.91 Praise the Lord. Mike, you had something? 00:29:05.94\00:29:07.38 I was going to remind her of La Vida Mission 00:29:07.41\00:29:09.48 because she was, I thought, I was afraid 00:29:09.51\00:29:10.88 she was not going to talk about that 00:29:10.95\00:29:12.28 so that was it, that was it. 00:29:12.31\00:29:13.65 Gracie, we didn't say when you went to Africa, 00:29:13.72\00:29:15.15 what precisely did you do? 00:29:15.18\00:29:17.42 We did a Vacation Bible School 00:29:17.49\00:29:20.06 for the kids at the school there. 00:29:20.09\00:29:21.49 We went to Tanzania, Africa 00:29:21.52\00:29:23.09 and there is this mission station Kibidula. 00:29:23.12\00:29:26.19 And we got to go to Kibidula, 00:29:26.23\00:29:30.27 and we did Vacation Bible School 00:29:30.30\00:29:32.60 for the school that was there. 00:29:32.63\00:29:34.47 We sang with the kids, we did an activity, 00:29:34.50\00:29:36.57 we gave them Bible stories. 00:29:36.60\00:29:38.54 And afterward we spent time painting houses, 00:29:38.57\00:29:41.28 sanding houses... 00:29:41.31\00:29:42.64 Oh, boy we were tired. 00:29:42.68\00:29:45.38 But it was such a blessing, the kids were wonderful, 00:29:45.41\00:29:48.32 the people were wonderful. 00:29:48.35\00:29:49.78 And we got to meet student missionaries there too 00:29:49.82\00:29:52.22 which we got to connect with 00:29:52.25\00:29:54.16 and share our faith with and everything 00:29:54.19\00:29:56.09 and encourage each other. 00:29:56.12\00:29:58.73 Praise the Lord. Really exciting stuff. 00:29:58.76\00:30:01.43 Very, very exciting stuff. 00:30:01.46\00:30:02.80 Everybody is smiling, 00:30:02.83\00:30:04.17 so obviously you had a good time 00:30:04.20\00:30:05.53 and memories are good. 00:30:05.57\00:30:06.94 And something you want to, so you want to repeat. 00:30:06.97\00:30:09.00 Doh? Yeah. 00:30:09.04\00:30:10.41 You are from where? I'm originally from Thailand. 00:30:10.44\00:30:13.48 I live in Des Moines, Iowa. 00:30:13.51\00:30:15.91 From Thailand to Des Moines, Iowa. 00:30:15.94\00:30:17.91 That's a bit of a... A bit of a move. 00:30:17.95\00:30:20.12 Yeah, they actually have winter in Des Moines, Iowa. 00:30:20.15\00:30:23.59 A lot of it. Yeah, a lot of winter. 00:30:23.62\00:30:26.45 What year are you at Sunnydale? I'm a sophomore. 00:30:26.49\00:30:29.12 Sophomore. Okay, all right. 00:30:29.16\00:30:31.93 Where have you served as far as C.R.O.S.S Training 00:30:31.96\00:30:36.90 is concerned? 00:30:36.97\00:30:38.30 Well, on campus I've done leading out 00:30:38.33\00:30:41.30 with the small Bible study group, 00:30:41.34\00:30:43.84 doing Sabbath school. 00:30:43.91\00:30:45.24 I've done praise teams. 00:30:45.27\00:30:46.88 I spoke in front of the students 00:30:46.91\00:30:49.74 in the Sunnydale Church. 00:30:49.78\00:30:51.38 And outside the campus I've done magabooking. 00:30:51.41\00:30:54.05 I had a chance to do magabooking. 00:30:54.12\00:30:55.95 And it was such a great experience, 00:30:55.98\00:30:58.32 it was nine weeks during the summer 00:30:58.35\00:31:00.36 and so that is as a lot of students go out 00:31:00.39\00:31:04.39 and share the faith out in the outside world 00:31:04.43\00:31:08.90 door to door, fearlessly, strong. 00:31:08.93\00:31:11.87 And from that I learned to be more confident with myself 00:31:11.90\00:31:14.57 because before I've done that I was a small shy boy, 00:31:14.60\00:31:18.77 I wouldn't talk much. 00:31:18.81\00:31:20.18 Yes. 00:31:20.21\00:31:21.54 Just after that I was more courageous 00:31:21.58\00:31:24.28 with what I do and more confident sharing 00:31:24.31\00:31:27.55 God's words and my faith. 00:31:27.62\00:31:29.12 Praise the Lord. 00:31:29.15\00:31:30.49 Explain to our audience what magabooks are 00:31:30.52\00:31:32.55 'cause some may not know. 00:31:32.59\00:31:33.96 And I can do but I think 00:31:33.99\00:31:35.32 it will be better coming from you. 00:31:35.36\00:31:37.16 Magabooking for me 00:31:37.23\00:31:38.66 is just that student going door to door 00:31:38.69\00:31:41.13 with Christian literature 00:31:41.16\00:31:43.16 and would just tell the people about the books, 00:31:43.20\00:31:47.24 see if they're interested and if they're interested, 00:31:47.27\00:31:49.84 we give them the book and they give us whatever 00:31:49.87\00:31:52.97 they have or donation for our tuitions, yeah. 00:31:53.01\00:31:56.31 So when you magabook, it's not a specific price 00:31:56.34\00:31:59.08 like regular literature evangelism, 00:31:59.11\00:32:01.05 it's kind of more donation based? 00:32:01.08\00:32:02.98 It's on donation basis and it's also evangelism 00:32:03.02\00:32:06.76 'cause every time we get to talk to somebody, 00:32:06.79\00:32:10.46 we share our faith, 00:32:10.53\00:32:11.86 and we share with them what's in the book 00:32:11.89\00:32:14.30 and what the book can do with the lives and... 00:32:14.33\00:32:18.37 Praise the Lord. How it can change them. 00:32:18.40\00:32:19.73 Yeah. 00:32:19.77\00:32:21.34 Let me salute you man from a shy little boy. 00:32:21.37\00:32:25.04 Because I have great respect for people 00:32:25.07\00:32:27.58 who go door to door with books, 00:32:27.61\00:32:30.95 that kind of makes you my hero, man, 00:32:30.98\00:32:32.31 because I tried that. 00:32:32.35\00:32:33.75 I can't do it. Just miserable... 00:32:33.82\00:32:36.72 When I was in school before 00:32:36.79\00:32:38.12 it's part of the theology training, 00:32:38.15\00:32:39.92 you have to spend a vacation, you pick it summer, 00:32:39.95\00:32:42.32 Easter, or whatever doing door to door selling. 00:32:42.36\00:32:46.53 So I did it, but I wasn't any good at it. 00:32:46.56\00:32:49.53 One, if they gave me a song and dance, I give them a book, 00:32:49.56\00:32:51.70 that means you got to pay for that, you know. 00:32:51.73\00:32:53.37 And then two, I just have a very low rejection quotient. 00:32:53.44\00:32:56.54 I don't like people slamming doors on my face. 00:32:56.57\00:32:57.91 So I wasn't good at that. 00:32:57.94\00:33:00.08 He says shy little boy, 00:33:00.11\00:33:01.51 but one thing Doh did not mention is in the dorm 00:33:01.54\00:33:04.18 something he does for fun is going door to door 00:33:04.25\00:33:06.72 and praying with his students, with his classmates. 00:33:06.75\00:33:10.09 I think that's cool 00:33:10.12\00:33:11.72 because someone who's finds it difficult 00:33:11.75\00:33:15.56 to be outgoing is doing something 00:33:15.59\00:33:18.19 it's very outgoing for Jesus. 00:33:18.23\00:33:20.53 And I think that's cool and that's nice. 00:33:20.60\00:33:22.83 Plus I've come to realize 00:33:22.86\00:33:24.57 that everything you do for the Lord, 00:33:24.60\00:33:25.93 nothing is wasted. 00:33:25.97\00:33:27.34 It becomes part of your resume for later on in life. 00:33:27.37\00:33:29.80 You know, you do other things and you can see 00:33:29.84\00:33:31.51 what this experience way back here 00:33:31.54\00:33:33.48 has given you some preparation for what you're doing now. 00:33:33.51\00:33:36.85 So those kinds of experiences certainly are not wasted. 00:33:36.88\00:33:40.32 When the students are doing different kinds of ministry 00:33:40.35\00:33:43.72 on campus, off campus, 00:33:43.79\00:33:45.22 do they inform you of that so that you can catalog 00:33:45.25\00:33:47.56 the kinds of things that are going on? 00:33:47.59\00:33:49.12 Or a lot of things going on that really, 00:33:49.16\00:33:51.06 they're just doing on their own that you may not even know off? 00:33:51.09\00:33:53.26 Okay. 00:33:53.29\00:33:55.63 Yes, both things happen, both things happen. 00:33:55.66\00:33:58.00 It occurred to me, yeah. 00:33:58.03\00:33:59.87 So at staff meeting sometimes 00:33:59.90\00:34:01.37 we talk about what the students are talking about. 00:34:01.40\00:34:04.41 We find out that 00:34:04.44\00:34:05.77 so and so has been holding a Bible study 00:34:05.81\00:34:07.21 in his room for the past four weeks, we had no clue. 00:34:07.28\00:34:10.75 In fact, the five students 00:34:10.78\00:34:12.41 had been going won't tell anybody. 00:34:12.45\00:34:14.95 And so we kind of, 00:34:14.98\00:34:16.32 sometimes we find out things 00:34:16.35\00:34:17.69 like that kind of after the fact. 00:34:17.72\00:34:20.99 Sometimes the student will come to myself or Pastor Rick 00:34:21.02\00:34:24.49 or one of the other staff members 00:34:24.53\00:34:26.33 and maybe get some advice on how to do something 00:34:26.36\00:34:28.56 or how to be a part of something. 00:34:28.60\00:34:29.93 So I would say some... 00:34:29.96\00:34:31.97 A lot of it happens with our knowledge or planning, 00:34:32.00\00:34:37.01 but a lot of it happens just... 00:34:37.04\00:34:38.67 I mean, just by the grace of God, 00:34:38.71\00:34:40.71 they're trying to be faithful. 00:34:40.78\00:34:43.55 Understood. 00:34:43.58\00:34:44.91 In addition to the things where sort of just pop up 00:34:44.95\00:34:47.22 which are almost spontaneous acts of evangelism. 00:34:47.25\00:34:50.29 Is there or are there X number of projects or goals 00:34:50.32\00:34:54.19 that you have during a given school year 00:34:54.26\00:34:56.56 that are fostered from your department 00:34:56.59\00:34:58.56 that they can kind of feed into and be involved in? 00:34:58.59\00:35:02.80 We don't have a set number. 00:35:02.83\00:35:04.93 If you have ever been a part of a boarding school, 00:35:04.97\00:35:08.57 our school year is pretty much dictated by the calendar. 00:35:08.60\00:35:11.67 Yeah, very much so. Schedule is everything. 00:35:11.71\00:35:13.88 So something interesting happens 00:35:13.91\00:35:16.38 with programs like mine. 00:35:16.41\00:35:17.95 We have to kind of compete 00:35:17.98\00:35:20.12 for weekends and spots and openings, 00:35:20.15\00:35:22.42 and we find crevasses and we push stuff in, 00:35:22.45\00:35:26.05 and I think that we have become 00:35:26.09\00:35:28.69 more creative over the past few years 00:35:28.72\00:35:31.39 to set aside time 00:35:31.43\00:35:32.89 in different fashions for students 00:35:32.93\00:35:34.43 to be a part of programs. 00:35:34.46\00:35:36.77 I want each of you to just sort of walk 00:35:36.80\00:35:38.73 out of quarters of your own minds now 00:35:38.77\00:35:41.00 and prepare for me the one event 00:35:41.04\00:35:44.21 that you have been involved 00:35:44.24\00:35:45.57 and that had the greatest impact 00:35:45.61\00:35:46.94 on your own personal life. 00:35:46.98\00:35:48.31 Something that sort of stood out for you 00:35:48.34\00:35:49.78 that you remember 00:35:49.81\00:35:51.61 or that has changed you in any significant way. 00:35:51.65\00:35:54.12 If someone were to say, 00:35:54.15\00:35:55.48 "This is the thing that really did it for me," 00:35:55.52\00:35:59.62 what would that be? 00:35:59.65\00:36:00.99 You're following where am I going with that? 00:36:01.02\00:36:02.52 Okay, since you're nodding the most, Yonathan, 00:36:02.56\00:36:04.23 let's start with you. 00:36:04.26\00:36:06.59 For me, it was this year, 00:36:06.63\00:36:08.26 I had the opportunity to go to India 00:36:08.30\00:36:11.67 on a mission trip. 00:36:11.70\00:36:13.74 I went with eight other students I think. 00:36:13.77\00:36:17.54 And well, this is us. This is a little village. 00:36:17.61\00:36:21.81 Now, what was so interesting about our trip to India 00:36:21.84\00:36:25.65 is just over and over I saw prayers answered. 00:36:25.68\00:36:28.95 Even just to raise money, fund raise to go to India, 00:36:28.98\00:36:32.22 prayers were already being answered, 00:36:32.25\00:36:33.96 prayers that I was praying, prayers that other people 00:36:33.99\00:36:36.73 were praying with me and for me. 00:36:36.76\00:36:39.76 Once we got to India as in last picture, 00:36:39.79\00:36:44.17 there was a village 00:36:44.20\00:36:45.83 that didn't have any clean water, 00:36:45.87\00:36:48.64 you know, and the year that went previous 00:36:48.67\00:36:51.71 they had prayed about it and they had started this... 00:36:51.74\00:36:56.24 They had started this... Fund raising. 00:36:56.28\00:36:59.55 Fund raising, right, to try to put the well. 00:36:59.58\00:37:03.59 I wasn't part of that last year. 00:37:03.62\00:37:05.72 But this year I was able to come, 00:37:05.75\00:37:07.09 I was able to see how a prayer 00:37:07.16\00:37:09.29 that not even I prayed was being answered. 00:37:09.32\00:37:12.16 Praise the Lord. 00:37:12.19\00:37:13.70 It was great. Yeah, yeah. 00:37:13.73\00:37:15.26 So that impacted you greatly? 00:37:15.30\00:37:16.67 It impacted me and it changed my life. 00:37:16.70\00:37:19.77 Praise the Lord. Praise the God. 00:37:19.80\00:37:21.30 Anyone else? Gracie? Dylan? 00:37:21.34\00:37:24.71 I think that I have two 00:37:24.74\00:37:27.68 because before coming to Sunnydale 00:37:27.71\00:37:31.21 when I was interested in it, 00:37:31.25\00:37:32.71 this is my first year by the way 00:37:32.75\00:37:35.05 and unfortunately my last. 00:37:35.08\00:37:36.42 But before coming I was interested in it, 00:37:36.45\00:37:38.79 and I didn't really think it a possibility 00:37:38.82\00:37:41.56 because of financial issues and everything. 00:37:41.59\00:37:44.46 But after talking to the principal 00:37:44.49\00:37:47.20 and Mrs. Kelly about scholarships 00:37:47.23\00:37:49.40 and all that type of thing, 00:37:49.43\00:37:50.77 I realized that God's making a way no matter what, 00:37:50.80\00:37:53.37 like if He wants you to be somewhere, 00:37:53.44\00:37:55.20 you're going to be somewhere. 00:37:55.24\00:37:56.57 Oh, yeah. 00:37:56.60\00:37:57.94 And that was really powerful for me. 00:37:57.97\00:38:00.38 And I would say that an event 00:38:00.41\00:38:03.88 that really impacted me was one of the music tours 00:38:03.95\00:38:06.92 that we did early on in the year. 00:38:06.95\00:38:08.38 I believe that it was the first one. 00:38:08.42\00:38:10.49 And I forgot which church we went to, 00:38:10.52\00:38:12.69 but we went and we played. 00:38:12.72\00:38:15.22 I'm in band, so I played in the band, 00:38:15.26\00:38:17.66 but outside of band Mrs. Vee had us, 00:38:17.69\00:38:20.00 some of us to prepare these testimonies to speak 00:38:20.03\00:38:22.46 to the people 00:38:22.50\00:38:23.87 and just share what's God doing in our life and... 00:38:23.90\00:38:27.14 And for the first time, 00:38:27.17\00:38:28.80 I spoke up about depression and about anxiety, 00:38:28.84\00:38:34.44 and all these things 00:38:34.48\00:38:35.81 that I have gone through for the first time 00:38:35.84\00:38:38.48 and how God has helped me through it. 00:38:38.51\00:38:41.35 And sharing that with other people 00:38:41.38\00:38:44.42 was a really growing experience for me. 00:38:44.45\00:38:46.62 Praise the Lord. 00:38:46.65\00:38:47.99 And that was one of the things 00:38:48.02\00:38:49.36 that prepared me to go to Africa 00:38:49.39\00:38:50.73 and start talking to other people about it. 00:38:50.76\00:38:52.76 Had you gone to Adventist education before, 00:38:52.79\00:38:55.03 Adventist school before? 00:38:55.06\00:38:56.40 No. This is your first time? 00:38:56.43\00:38:57.77 Yeah. 00:38:57.80\00:38:59.13 Quickly, give me the sort of Reader's Digest version 00:38:59.17\00:39:00.54 the difference between school and a non-Adventist institution 00:39:00.57\00:39:05.47 and your experience at Sunnydale? 00:39:05.51\00:39:07.48 Oh, boy. 00:39:07.51\00:39:09.98 There is a completely different atmosphere, like, 00:39:10.05\00:39:12.91 we've talked about C.R.O.S.S Training kind of prepares 00:39:12.95\00:39:15.45 this culture of, 00:39:15.48\00:39:17.59 you are able to share your faith freely, 00:39:17.62\00:39:19.45 you are able to step up out of your comfort zone, 00:39:19.49\00:39:21.52 you are encouraged too actually 00:39:21.56\00:39:23.43 and that's different because in public school 00:39:23.46\00:39:26.03 you are discouraged from doing that type of thing. 00:39:26.06\00:39:28.36 It's sort of look down upon by other people. 00:39:28.40\00:39:31.30 So... Praise the Lord. 00:39:31.33\00:39:33.10 Praise the Lord. 00:39:33.13\00:39:34.47 Dylan, Hannah, Doh? What stands on your mind? 00:39:34.50\00:39:36.91 Who wants to take that? 00:39:36.94\00:39:38.74 I have an experience it happened this year 00:39:38.77\00:39:41.84 as, you know, I went on the La Vida Mission trip. 00:39:41.88\00:39:44.91 But I was not planning on going at all. 00:39:44.95\00:39:47.62 I had gone earlier in the year 00:39:47.65\00:39:49.75 in the beginning of the school year 00:39:49.78\00:39:51.15 so in 2017 went in October. 00:39:51.19\00:39:54.29 And I really enjoyed it, and I wanted to go back, 00:39:54.32\00:39:56.52 but I wasn't sure I was going to be able to afford it. 00:39:56.56\00:39:59.29 And I wasn't really sure if I should or not 00:39:59.33\00:40:01.56 because school was crazy, 00:40:01.60\00:40:03.67 I'm involved in a lot at Sunnydale. 00:40:03.70\00:40:06.60 And so it came to like we had a month before 00:40:06.63\00:40:10.34 we left and Mrs. Kelly, 00:40:10.41\00:40:13.24 she works in the office, I was like... 00:40:13.27\00:40:14.91 She went before, and she really wanted me to go 00:40:14.94\00:40:17.45 and so did a lot of other staff members. 00:40:17.48\00:40:19.15 And so I was like, 00:40:19.18\00:40:20.52 "Okay, well, put my name on the list 00:40:20.55\00:40:21.88 and hopefully I can get the money." 00:40:21.92\00:40:23.99 And so I raised about $75 or $100 00:40:24.02\00:40:27.56 and then all of a sudden unanimously 00:40:27.59\00:40:31.13 the whole bill was paid, 00:40:31.16\00:40:33.40 I didn't have to raise any money; 00:40:33.43\00:40:34.93 they wouldn't tell me who it was. 00:40:34.96\00:40:37.00 It was just all of a sudden, 00:40:37.07\00:40:38.40 I went home for a break and I came back 00:40:38.43\00:40:40.14 and everything was paid for it. 00:40:40.17\00:40:42.07 And I still to this date don't know who did it. 00:40:42.10\00:40:45.34 But I was extremely blessed and that made my day big time. 00:40:45.37\00:40:48.74 And I was able to go 00:40:48.78\00:40:50.35 and be more involved in the mission trip 00:40:50.38\00:40:53.01 in La Vida than I was the first time. 00:40:53.05\00:40:55.12 'Cause we were able to do more, 00:40:55.15\00:40:56.48 and I was little bit more comfortable with the area. 00:40:56.52\00:40:58.75 And since they kind of knew who was coming, 00:40:58.79\00:41:00.86 I've been there before, 00:41:00.89\00:41:02.22 and I made friends with the kids. 00:41:02.26\00:41:04.03 I was able to do a lot more. 00:41:04.06\00:41:05.83 So it was a major blessing and it changed my life. 00:41:05.86\00:41:08.96 So, yeah. Praise the Lord. 00:41:09.00\00:41:10.37 Praise the Lord. 00:41:10.40\00:41:11.90 Doh, Dylan? Going once, going twice? 00:41:11.93\00:41:15.30 Well, I have two. 00:41:15.34\00:41:20.18 The first one is at the end of my sophomore year, 00:41:20.21\00:41:25.38 I, when talking to my mom on the phone, 00:41:25.41\00:41:29.15 and she was really stressed 00:41:29.18\00:41:32.19 about how we were going to pay my school bill 00:41:32.22\00:41:36.19 because money is tight in my family. 00:41:36.22\00:41:40.10 And so we were sitting there, 00:41:40.13\00:41:42.30 and we were trying to come up with the ideas 00:41:42.33\00:41:44.57 on how we're going arrange the money. 00:41:44.60\00:41:48.04 And we didn't have any luck like we couldn't think of any, 00:41:48.07\00:41:52.74 like, good ideas or how we are going to pay it. 00:41:52.77\00:41:55.68 And so I wasn't sure if I be able to come back. 00:41:55.71\00:42:00.82 And I think it was the last week of school, 00:42:00.85\00:42:07.26 my mom called me and she said, 00:42:07.29\00:42:11.23 "You will never guess what happened." 00:42:11.26\00:42:13.70 I was like, "Yeah, you're probably right, 00:42:13.73\00:42:16.03 I would never guess, so why don't you tell me." 00:42:16.06\00:42:18.97 And she said, 00:42:19.00\00:42:21.44 "We're down to $1,000 on your school bill, 00:42:21.47\00:42:25.57 like, someone paid..." 00:42:25.61\00:42:27.58 I forgot the exact amount but a large chunk of money 00:42:27.61\00:42:32.15 on my school bill. 00:42:32.18\00:42:33.75 And my mom was just crying over the phone 00:42:33.82\00:42:37.19 and that caused me to crying and it made me realize 00:42:37.22\00:42:40.86 that not only I'm getting 00:42:40.89\00:42:43.93 a good education at Sunnydale, 00:42:43.96\00:42:47.83 having good experiences, 00:42:47.86\00:42:49.20 but people are backing me up 00:42:49.23\00:42:52.90 with money or with prayers, 00:42:52.93\00:42:56.17 and it really gave me a lot of motivation to be 00:42:56.20\00:43:01.81 more involved in C.R.O.S.S Training. 00:43:01.84\00:43:05.48 And the second one is my mission trip to Africa 00:43:05.51\00:43:09.88 or should I say the events prior to that 00:43:09.92\00:43:15.09 because it was just miracle 00:43:15.12\00:43:16.86 after miracle that allowed me to go. 00:43:16.93\00:43:21.70 We had fund raised 00:43:21.73\00:43:23.80 and we had talked to my grandma's church, 00:43:23.87\00:43:29.60 and we were almost there 00:43:29.64\00:43:33.14 to the goal that I had to raise. 00:43:33.17\00:43:36.14 And, again, we didn't know 00:43:36.18\00:43:38.61 how we were going to raise the money. 00:43:38.65\00:43:41.18 And then my grandma told me that her church 00:43:41.22\00:43:47.06 if I would be willing to come to the church 00:43:47.09\00:43:51.46 and give a mission report, 00:43:51.49\00:43:53.80 they would pay the rest of my bill. 00:43:53.83\00:43:56.53 And that really touched me. 00:43:56.56\00:43:59.77 And then my passport it was down to the wire. 00:43:59.80\00:44:04.87 And actually Mr. Needles took me 00:44:04.91\00:44:08.88 to a post office at the very last moment, 00:44:08.91\00:44:13.55 and we were able to get everything prepared 00:44:13.62\00:44:16.99 and my passport came just on time. 00:44:17.02\00:44:21.16 Praise the Lord. Praise the Lord. 00:44:21.19\00:44:22.52 So thank you, Mr. Needles. 00:44:22.56\00:44:24.63 In listening to all of you speak, 00:44:24.66\00:44:27.10 I see a pattern of the Lord sort of inserting Himself 00:44:27.13\00:44:31.40 His hand into your lives. 00:44:31.43\00:44:32.77 All of you can recount miracles that have happened to further, 00:44:32.80\00:44:37.91 you know, what you have been trying to do for the Lord. 00:44:37.94\00:44:40.28 My question then is how do those kinds of miracles, 00:44:40.31\00:44:43.35 when you see God moving in such a powerful way 00:44:43.38\00:44:46.55 to do something for you 00:44:46.58\00:44:47.92 so that He can do something through you. 00:44:47.95\00:44:50.02 How does that make you feel about the mission 00:44:50.09\00:44:52.02 and what you are trying to do? 00:44:52.05\00:44:53.39 Does it encourage you? 00:44:53.46\00:44:54.79 Does it make you rely on the Lord more? 00:44:54.82\00:44:56.16 How does that make you feel to see the Lord doing 00:44:56.19\00:44:57.96 such marvelous things in your lives? 00:44:57.99\00:44:59.93 Anybody want to grab that? 00:45:00.00\00:45:03.03 I think it is very encouraging for me personally. 00:45:03.06\00:45:08.24 A lot of times I tend to focus on what's happening around me 00:45:08.27\00:45:11.94 like the visible and everything. 00:45:11.97\00:45:13.68 But when God does these miracles 00:45:13.71\00:45:15.71 when He works these things and makes things happen, 00:45:15.74\00:45:18.55 it makes me think I should be looking at God all the time. 00:45:18.58\00:45:22.12 I should be focusing on Him always like it's 00:45:22.15\00:45:25.45 because He's the one doing it all. 00:45:25.49\00:45:28.99 Anyone else? 00:45:29.02\00:45:30.36 I have something, I agree with Gracie, 00:45:30.43\00:45:31.96 definitely very encouraging 'cause I remember one time, 00:45:31.99\00:45:36.97 I was doing a praise team or like a week of prayer 00:45:37.00\00:45:39.37 for a school nearby, some middle school kids. 00:45:39.40\00:45:44.71 And I remember, I was going through a tough time 00:45:44.74\00:45:46.21 because my brother had fell from a tree 00:45:46.24\00:45:48.41 and cracked his skull and got blood in his brain, 00:45:48.44\00:45:51.28 and I was really down and I didn't think. 00:45:51.31\00:45:54.02 I can't get up fine, 00:45:54.05\00:45:55.38 I'm going to breakdown in front of all these kids, 00:45:55.42\00:45:57.29 and I just remember Mr. Needles praying with us 00:45:57.32\00:46:00.39 in the car, 00:46:00.46\00:46:01.79 and then after we did the praise team, 00:46:01.82\00:46:03.63 he prayed for my little brother. 00:46:03.66\00:46:04.99 And that really touched me and it just helped me remember 00:46:05.03\00:46:06.56 that through everything 00:46:06.59\00:46:08.26 even if I'm trying to do God's work 00:46:08.30\00:46:09.70 and something goes wrong, 00:46:09.73\00:46:11.30 I need to focus on God 00:46:11.33\00:46:12.67 because He's always there through everything, 00:46:12.70\00:46:14.50 no matter what traumatic experience 00:46:14.54\00:46:16.91 or whatever He will always be there. 00:46:16.94\00:46:19.11 So... Yeah. Mr. Needles, all right. 00:46:19.14\00:46:22.31 Just a follow up, direct answer to prayer, 00:46:22.34\00:46:25.08 her little brother very, very serious head injury, 00:46:25.11\00:46:29.95 it was just a few hours they were clearing him 00:46:29.98\00:46:32.75 to leave to go home and so... 00:46:32.79\00:46:34.16 Oh, Praise the Lord. 00:46:34.19\00:46:35.59 From our point of view, nothing short of a miracle. 00:46:35.62\00:46:38.19 And it's fun to be a part of that. 00:46:38.23\00:46:39.83 Here's my question? 00:46:39.86\00:46:41.20 Because you're going to school 00:46:41.23\00:46:42.70 to get a good Christian education 00:46:42.73\00:46:44.53 and the cherry on the sundae is being allowed to do 00:46:44.57\00:46:47.04 some of these things for the Lord. 00:46:47.07\00:46:48.40 How does this impact your schoolwork and your time, 00:46:48.44\00:46:50.74 is this a stretch, 00:46:50.81\00:46:52.14 does that impact it negatively or do you find you 00:46:52.17\00:46:54.68 actually have more energy to do what you have to do 00:46:54.71\00:46:56.95 because you got to come out here 00:46:56.98\00:46:58.31 with a degree you know, 00:46:58.35\00:47:00.12 that's why all that money is being shelling out, 00:47:00.15\00:47:02.88 you know, and this is a very, very important part of it, 00:47:02.92\00:47:06.42 but you got to come out of school with a degree. 00:47:06.45\00:47:08.46 So does this enhance 00:47:08.49\00:47:10.03 your schoolwork, your school time? 00:47:10.06\00:47:12.09 Is it kind of a stretch to try to get your work done 00:47:12.13\00:47:14.83 and is done or does it fit kind of nicely? 00:47:14.86\00:47:17.37 I feel like if you put God first in everything, 00:47:17.40\00:47:19.57 you will have time for everything else. 00:47:19.60\00:47:21.17 Sure, and I agree. So... 00:47:21.20\00:47:22.74 Okay. That's it. How I feel about it. 00:47:22.77\00:47:26.31 I feel like it's, again, it prepares you 00:47:26.34\00:47:29.18 for what we're really here to do 00:47:29.21\00:47:31.18 because in the end, yes, we need a degree, 00:47:31.21\00:47:33.82 and we're going to do what we're going to do, like, 00:47:33.85\00:47:35.68 God has given us specific burdens, like, 00:47:35.72\00:47:39.32 if Dylan wants to be a counselor or pastor 00:47:39.35\00:47:41.99 whatever he wants to be, 00:47:42.02\00:47:43.43 he can take this education of discipleship 00:47:43.46\00:47:47.60 and put into that. 00:47:47.63\00:47:48.96 If someone wants to be an artist, 00:47:49.00\00:47:51.07 they can put it into that career. 00:47:51.10\00:47:53.84 No matter what you go into, 00:47:53.87\00:47:55.50 if you have this education that combines, like, 00:47:55.54\00:48:00.08 classroom experiences with discipleship 00:48:00.11\00:48:02.51 and becoming someone who represents God, 00:48:02.54\00:48:05.05 then it prepares you for what we are here to do, 00:48:05.08\00:48:07.25 what God really wants us to do. 00:48:07.32\00:48:10.09 Yonathan? 00:48:10.12\00:48:12.72 Definitely, homework, you always have to do homework. 00:48:12.75\00:48:15.59 But I think the teachers are very... 00:48:15.62\00:48:18.03 They're really willing to help out the extra help 00:48:18.06\00:48:21.20 if you ever gone on a mission trip, 00:48:21.23\00:48:22.90 you've been gone for a while. 00:48:22.93\00:48:24.33 You come back, they try extra hard, 00:48:24.37\00:48:27.57 but as Hannah said, 00:48:27.64\00:48:29.44 you know, if you get God right, 00:48:29.47\00:48:31.47 you know, everything seems fun to play. 00:48:31.51\00:48:34.08 Well said. Well said. Well said. 00:48:34.11\00:48:36.51 In the time that remains just before we go to newsbreak, 00:48:36.54\00:48:39.41 back to you, Mike, I'm going to ask you 00:48:39.45\00:48:40.82 one of those kind of high concept ontological questions 00:48:40.85\00:48:43.52 we ask every now and again. 00:48:43.59\00:48:45.35 When you listen to these young people... 00:48:45.39\00:48:48.29 And I'm very encouraged by what they're saying 00:48:48.32\00:48:49.66 it's really exciting 00:48:49.69\00:48:51.03 because how does that make you feel 00:48:51.06\00:48:52.39 and the task that you have been given to see 00:48:52.43\00:48:54.50 that C.R.O.S.S Training 00:48:54.53\00:48:56.77 and I'll come back to the word again, 00:48:56.80\00:48:58.30 the culture that you're establishing 00:48:58.33\00:49:00.34 on the campus at Sunnydale. 00:49:00.37\00:49:01.84 How does that make you feel about the job 00:49:01.87\00:49:03.27 that you have been called to do? 00:49:03.30\00:49:05.11 You made this sharp left turn, no, 00:49:05.14\00:49:07.68 sharp right turn in the direction of the Lord 00:49:07.71\00:49:11.41 and now you are put in charge to something 00:49:11.45\00:49:12.91 that kinds gives you a little jumpstart, man, 00:49:12.95\00:49:15.98 to see and to hear what they are doing, 00:49:16.02\00:49:17.65 how does that make you feel about the decision 00:49:17.69\00:49:19.02 that you ultimately made for Jesus? 00:49:19.05\00:49:20.89 Well, again, when you see God working miracles for you. 00:49:20.96\00:49:24.86 Yeah. It's very empowering. 00:49:24.89\00:49:28.36 But here's the reality, 00:49:28.40\00:49:30.47 these students don't understand that they motivate me, 00:49:30.50\00:49:33.54 they hold me accountable. 00:49:33.57\00:49:34.90 Yes. 00:49:34.94\00:49:36.27 Because how dare I come to work and take a day off... 00:49:36.30\00:49:40.08 And get a little frustrated or get little down 00:49:40.11\00:49:42.48 or just not do it I'm supposed to. 00:49:42.51\00:49:45.28 When I see them doing everything that they do, 00:49:45.31\00:49:48.55 they're handling high school which is difficult to do, 00:49:48.58\00:49:52.22 and they are finding ways to share their faith. 00:49:52.25\00:49:54.66 So it holds me accountable to do the same. 00:49:54.69\00:49:58.69 Yeah, yeah. 00:49:58.73\00:50:00.10 So in spite of my position at Sunnydale, 00:50:00.13\00:50:02.63 I need to find ways to share my faith. 00:50:02.66\00:50:04.00 Yes. 00:50:04.07\00:50:05.40 Just like these students are doing that on campus, 00:50:05.43\00:50:07.44 in the dorm around. 00:50:07.47\00:50:08.80 So there is an element of accountability for our staff 00:50:08.84\00:50:11.11 that, you know, when you see students getting fired up 00:50:11.14\00:50:13.58 about God and wanting to be 00:50:13.61\00:50:16.51 a part of sharing that wonderful message, 00:50:16.54\00:50:21.88 they motivate us. 00:50:21.92\00:50:23.52 Just very quickly, 00:50:23.59\00:50:24.92 does the school provide for the staff 00:50:24.95\00:50:27.79 a particular ways to share their faith 00:50:27.82\00:50:30.96 in the community or in the school 00:50:30.99\00:50:32.66 or our staff sort of expected to just sit down think about 00:50:32.69\00:50:36.90 and come of ways to sort do that themselves. 00:50:36.97\00:50:38.77 And I know that they've got to weave 00:50:38.80\00:50:40.14 that into their curriculum, 00:50:40.17\00:50:41.50 it's part of what they're doing in the classroom, 00:50:41.54\00:50:43.10 but did they have other opportunities 00:50:43.14\00:50:44.67 to kind of share and step out and stuff too? 00:50:44.71\00:50:47.08 Right. 00:50:47.11\00:50:48.44 So at Sunnydale we are blessed where we have... 00:50:48.48\00:50:51.18 We're kind of in between three small towns, 00:50:51.21\00:50:53.92 we have local community centers, 00:50:53.95\00:50:56.05 we have bigger cities that are close, 00:50:56.08\00:50:58.59 so the staff can find ways 00:50:58.62\00:51:00.36 to reach out in their community. 00:51:00.39\00:51:01.99 However, a lot of the staff, 00:51:02.02\00:51:05.63 C.R.O.S.S Training wouldn't happen without them. 00:51:05.66\00:51:08.10 So if a student needs to go somewhere 00:51:08.13\00:51:10.47 or needs to do something 00:51:10.50\00:51:11.83 or wants to be part of something, 00:51:11.87\00:51:13.20 they're going to have a staff member go with them. 00:51:13.23\00:51:14.64 They're going to just 00:51:14.67\00:51:17.74 because logistic staff members are involved 00:51:17.77\00:51:20.41 and we have the greatest staff out there. 00:51:20.48\00:51:22.58 They're so quick to step up, 00:51:22.61\00:51:24.35 they're so quick to be a part of this. 00:51:24.38\00:51:27.75 And, again, as staff, 00:51:27.78\00:51:30.49 the idea or the philosophy of C.R.O.S.S Training 00:51:30.52\00:51:32.92 is integrated into the job. 00:51:32.95\00:51:35.82 It's not part of the job, there's no bonus for that. 00:51:35.86\00:51:38.89 It's just needs to be part of what we do. 00:51:38.93\00:51:40.96 Yeah, as you said 00:51:41.00\00:51:42.33 part of the culture of the school. 00:51:42.36\00:51:43.70 Yeah. Yeah. 00:51:43.77\00:51:45.10 We're getting ready to go to the address roll 00:51:45.13\00:51:46.94 for Sunnydale Academy. 00:51:46.97\00:51:48.30 We have done and I say this unapologetically 00:51:48.34\00:51:51.91 a de facto commercial for Sunnydale. 00:51:51.94\00:51:54.28 And that's quite all right 00:51:54.31\00:51:55.71 because you may be looking for a school 00:51:55.74\00:51:57.81 to send your child to and you certainly want one 00:51:57.85\00:51:59.68 that gives them a quality Christian education, 00:51:59.71\00:52:01.68 but as we mention 00:52:01.72\00:52:03.05 that cherry on the sundae is the idea 00:52:03.08\00:52:05.42 that your young person will be immersed 00:52:05.45\00:52:08.12 in a culture of service. 00:52:08.16\00:52:09.66 They will pick up this idea 00:52:09.69\00:52:13.60 that there is more than reading, 00:52:13.63\00:52:15.00 writing, and arithmetic, 00:52:15.03\00:52:16.36 there is a service aspect that will be a blessing to them 00:52:16.40\00:52:20.04 and will round out their Christian experience. 00:52:20.07\00:52:23.24 Should you want to make contact with Sunnydale Academy, 00:52:23.27\00:52:25.57 support what these young people are doing, 00:52:25.61\00:52:27.48 maybe make a financial donation 00:52:27.51\00:52:29.61 to this cause to C.R.O.S.S Training 00:52:29.64\00:52:31.48 or to the school, 00:52:31.51\00:52:32.85 here is the contact information that you will need. 00:52:32.88\00:52:37.59 If you would like to find out 00:52:37.62\00:52:38.95 more about Sunnydale Adventist Academy 00:52:38.99\00:52:41.59 or if you would like to support 00:52:41.62\00:52:42.96 one of their students on the mission trip, 00:52:42.99\00:52:45.03 please visit their website Sunnydale.org. 00:52:45.06\00:52:48.73 Your donation can make a world of difference to a student 00:52:48.76\00:52:51.53 who longs to share about Jesus. 00:52:51.57\00:52:53.94 That website again is Sunnydale.org. 00:52:53.97\00:52:57.01 Or you may call them 00:52:57.04\00:52:58.37 at area code (573) 682-2164 00:52:58.41\00:53:04.71 or write to them at Sunnydale Adventist Academy 00:53:04.75\00:53:08.28 C.R.O.S.S Training 6818, 00:53:08.32\00:53:11.95 Audrain Road 9139 00:53:11.99\00:53:14.99 in Centralia, Missouri 65240. 00:53:15.02\00:53:19.56
