I want to spend my life 00:00:01.56\00:00:07.50 Mending broken people 00:00:07.54\00:00:12.54 I want to spend my life 00:00:12.57\00:00:18.75 Removing pain 00:00:18.78\00:00:23.75 Lord, let my words 00:00:23.79\00:00:29.96 Heal a heart that hurts 00:00:29.99\00:00:34.63 I want to spend my life 00:00:34.66\00:00:40.24 Mending broken people 00:00:40.27\00:00:45.81 I want to spend my life 00:00:45.84\00:00:51.28 Mending broken people 00:00:51.31\00:00:55.65 Hello, and welcome to another 3ABN Today program. 00:01:11.20\00:01:14.50 I'm Jill Morikone, 00:01:14.54\00:01:15.87 and I have my husband Greg here with me today. 00:01:15.90\00:01:18.64 Normally, I'm sitting there and he's sitting here, 00:01:18.67\00:01:21.08 but today, we decided to switch it up a bit. 00:01:21.11\00:01:23.38 And we're so excited to bring this special, 00:01:23.41\00:01:26.68 incredible testimony to you at home. 00:01:26.72\00:01:29.68 Many times with the Today programs, 00:01:29.72\00:01:31.09 we feature different ministries. 00:01:31.12\00:01:33.39 We feature what God is doing around the world 00:01:33.42\00:01:35.82 in many different ministries, 00:01:35.86\00:01:37.19 but our guest today 00:01:37.23\00:01:38.69 has an incredible miracle story. 00:01:38.73\00:01:41.83 A miracle of what God is doing in her life, 00:01:41.86\00:01:44.60 especially with health. 00:01:44.63\00:01:47.00 And it's just incredible to see 00:01:47.04\00:01:50.11 what God is doing in people's lives, isn't it? 00:01:50.14\00:01:52.11 Yeah, you know, it is. 00:01:52.14\00:01:53.48 And it's really... 00:01:53.51\00:01:54.84 We are encouraging you to stay tuned 00:01:54.88\00:01:56.24 for the entire program 00:01:56.28\00:01:57.61 because can you imagine being active, 00:01:57.65\00:01:59.81 being, you know, running as in, like marathon type of training, 00:01:59.85\00:02:05.45 and then basically going to paralyzed, 00:02:05.49\00:02:08.09 you would think that's it. 00:02:08.12\00:02:09.52 And then God did an incredible thing 00:02:09.56\00:02:11.49 in her life. 00:02:11.53\00:02:12.86 We're not going to tell the story here 00:02:12.89\00:02:14.23 'cause she's going to share it. 00:02:14.26\00:02:15.60 But God has done some amazing things 00:02:15.63\00:02:16.97 and how God gave her the strength 00:02:17.00\00:02:20.17 through that experience too 00:02:20.20\00:02:21.74 because in that experience you don't always know. 00:02:21.77\00:02:24.34 You know, in Isaiah 43, 00:02:24.37\00:02:26.14 it talks about us going through storms in our lives. 00:02:26.17\00:02:29.31 And in the storm, 00:02:29.34\00:02:30.68 you don't necessarily know how long is that storm, 00:02:30.71\00:02:32.55 what's it going to be on the other side. 00:02:32.58\00:02:34.18 We know that God is with us through the storm, right? 00:02:34.22\00:02:36.92 And He is, 00:02:36.95\00:02:38.29 but we don't always know the outcome 00:02:38.32\00:02:39.65 because we know 00:02:39.69\00:02:41.02 it's always God's will to heal whether it's here in this life, 00:02:41.06\00:02:43.76 like immediately or when He comes 00:02:43.79\00:02:45.83 and our bodies are made perfect again. 00:02:45.86\00:02:47.20 So this is going to be exciting. 00:02:47.23\00:02:49.13 I mean, I'm excited to hear this story myself. 00:02:49.16\00:02:50.50 That's right. 00:02:50.53\00:02:51.87 We don't want to waste anymore time. 00:02:51.90\00:02:53.23 We want to introduce our special guest to you 00:02:53.27\00:02:55.20 and that's Loretta Spivey. 00:02:55.24\00:02:56.57 And, Loretta, we're so delighted 00:02:56.60\00:02:57.97 to have you here at 3ABN. 00:02:58.01\00:02:59.34 I can assure you 00:02:59.37\00:03:00.71 that I'm more excited than you are. 00:03:00.74\00:03:02.08 I'd love to tell the story. Amen. 00:03:02.11\00:03:04.15 And why do you... 00:03:04.18\00:03:05.51 Why are you excited to tell the story? 00:03:05.55\00:03:08.65 I want this earth, I think, for one reason now, 00:03:08.68\00:03:11.69 and that is so that people know there's a God, 00:03:11.72\00:03:14.26 and that that God is still 00:03:14.29\00:03:15.86 in the miracle-working business. 00:03:15.89\00:03:17.23 Praise the Lord. 00:03:17.26\00:03:18.59 And if you, if after you hear the story, 00:03:18.63\00:03:20.83 you don't believe that there's a God, 00:03:20.86\00:03:22.20 and you don't believe 00:03:22.23\00:03:23.57 that He is still in the miracle working business, 00:03:23.60\00:03:24.93 I don't know what else would make you believe it. 00:03:24.97\00:03:27.47 This is why I think it's good to hear these stories 00:03:27.50\00:03:29.84 because a lot of times we read in the Bible, 00:03:29.87\00:03:31.64 you know, the Old Testament or, 00:03:31.67\00:03:33.01 you know, and the gospel is about God healing people, 00:03:33.04\00:03:35.91 or how God worked just miraculously, 00:03:35.94\00:03:37.88 you think it was then, not now, 00:03:37.91\00:03:40.68 but you are living testimony to that. 00:03:40.72\00:03:42.45 And He still does it right now today. 00:03:42.48\00:03:44.79 And so many people are hopeless and feel like, "Yeah, that's... 00:03:44.82\00:03:48.12 It's the Bible and it's old, 00:03:48.16\00:03:49.66 and that's what God did back then." 00:03:49.69\00:03:51.93 But I'm here to say 00:03:51.96\00:03:53.29 that's what God does right here, right now. 00:03:53.33\00:03:55.86 Amen. So I'm excited. 00:03:55.90\00:03:57.23 I'm excited too. 00:03:57.27\00:03:58.60 We're so excited to have you here. 00:03:58.63\00:03:59.97 And if the name Loretta Spivey is familiar to you at all, 00:04:00.00\00:04:03.44 I was thinking, "I know this woman," 00:04:03.47\00:04:06.07 because I used to read years ago. 00:04:06.11\00:04:08.68 I used to read her columns in the Adventist Review. 00:04:08.71\00:04:11.41 She's a fabulous author. 00:04:11.45\00:04:13.58 You and your sister-in-law, was it your sister-in-law? 00:04:13.62\00:04:15.68 My sister-in-law, my sister-in-law Gina, 00:04:15.72\00:04:17.65 and as we all know, we took two sides of an issue, 00:04:17.69\00:04:21.19 and we always know 00:04:21.22\00:04:22.56 that I was the one that was right, 00:04:22.59\00:04:24.63 she was the one that was not. 00:04:24.66\00:04:26.03 So, yeah, I'm sure 00:04:26.06\00:04:27.40 that's how you remember the story. 00:04:27.43\00:04:28.76 That is exactly how I remembered your story... 00:04:28.80\00:04:30.13 That's very good. That's good. 00:04:30.17\00:04:31.50 But it was like, always to get 00:04:31.53\00:04:32.87 the two different sides of the issue, I love that. 00:04:32.90\00:04:34.24 Absolutely. It was awesome. 00:04:34.27\00:04:35.60 Now, you used to be New York, Northeastern Conference, 00:04:35.64\00:04:37.54 all of that stuff, New York, and then where do you live now? 00:04:37.57\00:04:39.87 I live in Connecticut, up there in Northeastern. 00:04:39.91\00:04:42.44 And then I moved to Pennsylvania 00:04:42.48\00:04:44.38 where most of this story took place, 00:04:44.41\00:04:46.58 and now I live in North Carolina. 00:04:46.61\00:04:47.95 Okay. 00:04:47.98\00:04:49.32 So before we go to our music, 00:04:49.35\00:04:50.69 let's just take back before you became ill 00:04:50.72\00:04:53.36 and before you had all those health challenges, 00:04:53.39\00:04:55.32 so what was your life like then? 00:04:55.36\00:04:57.56 Before I had all those health challenges, 00:04:57.59\00:04:59.03 I went to the doctor once a year, like we do. 00:04:59.06\00:05:02.53 It's good, get your, like, yearly checkup. 00:05:02.56\00:05:04.07 My yearly checkup. 00:05:04.10\00:05:05.43 And it was always fine, 00:05:05.47\00:05:06.80 no high blood pressure, no diabetes, no issues at all. 00:05:06.84\00:05:09.70 I have five children, 00:05:09.74\00:05:12.21 and so I was actively taking care of them. 00:05:12.24\00:05:14.74 I did mission trips 00:05:14.78\00:05:16.21 with Maranatha Volunteers International, several. 00:05:16.24\00:05:17.88 Oh, yeah. That's a great ministry. 00:05:17.91\00:05:19.41 One or two year. And I was a runner. 00:05:19.45\00:05:23.92 My big races up to that point were 10Ks and half marathons. 00:05:23.95\00:05:28.29 Wow! And that's really... 00:05:28.32\00:05:29.66 And, of course, I was active in church, 00:05:29.69\00:05:31.49 and that's really how I spent my time. 00:05:31.53\00:05:34.66 So let me ask about then your training then so too, 00:05:34.70\00:05:36.77 you know, 'cause you don't just go out 00:05:36.80\00:05:38.13 and run a half marathon or a 10K, 00:05:38.17\00:05:39.93 so you probably have a pretty strict 00:05:39.97\00:05:42.07 exercise regimen every week? 00:05:42.10\00:05:43.61 I had. 00:05:43.64\00:05:44.97 Well, let's call it relatively strict 00:05:45.01\00:05:47.31 since people who know my training may be watching. 00:05:47.34\00:05:50.15 Okay, so tell what you mean. I want to tell the truth. 00:05:50.18\00:05:52.78 We want the truth. 00:05:52.81\00:05:54.15 I want to be honest, so I trained... 00:05:54.18\00:05:57.02 I was not a super athlete, 00:05:57.05\00:06:00.72 and I just mentioned all the other things 00:06:00.76\00:06:02.19 that I did. 00:06:02.22\00:06:03.73 So I didn't want to go out though 00:06:03.76\00:06:05.66 and just try to run something without training, so I trained. 00:06:05.69\00:06:08.60 I also tried to eat well. Good. 00:06:08.63\00:06:11.23 And be healthy. 00:06:11.27\00:06:12.60 Sometimes I would take someone to soccer practice 00:06:12.63\00:06:14.87 and get a little exercise in while 00:06:14.90\00:06:16.44 they were doing practice. 00:06:16.47\00:06:17.81 Oh, yeah. 00:06:17.84\00:06:19.17 Or, you know, while I was waiting 00:06:19.21\00:06:20.54 for someone at piano lessons, 00:06:20.58\00:06:21.91 I would, you know, go and hit the street there. 00:06:21.94\00:06:23.58 So, yes, but it absolutely takes training to run a 10K 00:06:23.61\00:06:27.98 and absolutely a half marathon at 13.1 miles. 00:06:28.02\00:06:31.75 Oh, yeah. So, yeah. 00:06:31.79\00:06:33.56 And I was very active, and it was great. 00:06:33.59\00:06:37.13 Absolutely. 00:06:37.16\00:06:38.49 Now I think we have a photo 00:06:38.53\00:06:39.86 of whom we wanted to do put this up. 00:06:39.89\00:06:41.23 This is of a baptism, is that right? 00:06:41.26\00:06:42.80 The photo of the baptism 00:06:42.83\00:06:44.97 was in Ecuador for a mission trip 00:06:45.00\00:06:48.00 with Maranatha Volunteers International. 00:06:48.04\00:06:50.41 And the funny thing about that baptism 00:06:50.44\00:06:53.71 is that we camped right near that river. 00:06:53.74\00:06:56.34 Okay. 00:06:56.38\00:06:57.71 And that was a trip called Ultimate Workout, 00:06:57.75\00:06:59.85 so it was for teenagers, 14 to 18. 00:06:59.88\00:07:01.38 Oh, yeah. 00:07:01.42\00:07:02.75 Did you take any of your kids with you? 00:07:02.78\00:07:04.12 None of my children went on that. 00:07:04.15\00:07:05.49 But all of my children, 00:07:05.52\00:07:06.86 four of my children have been 00:07:06.89\00:07:08.22 on Ultimate Workout for the five. 00:07:08.26\00:07:09.59 And so, I promised the kids 00:07:09.62\00:07:10.96 that I would not ever get in that river 00:07:10.99\00:07:13.29 because I didn't like the way the river looked. 00:07:13.33\00:07:15.83 And I didn't know what else was in the river. 00:07:15.86\00:07:17.27 Yes. 00:07:17.30\00:07:18.63 And so I promised them, I'm not getting in the river. 00:07:18.67\00:07:21.10 I don't care... 00:07:21.14\00:07:22.47 They bathed in the river, 00:07:22.50\00:07:23.84 they went and had fun in the river 00:07:23.87\00:07:25.21 after work every day, 00:07:25.24\00:07:26.57 and I gladly stood on the shore and watched them. 00:07:26.61\00:07:28.91 But then this young lady decides 00:07:28.94\00:07:30.55 she wants to get baptized. 00:07:30.58\00:07:32.28 At first, I thought 00:07:32.31\00:07:33.65 it was just a ploy to get me in the river. 00:07:33.68\00:07:37.49 But it was my honor to get in the river for that reason 00:07:37.52\00:07:40.19 to baptize her. 00:07:40.22\00:07:41.56 Yes, amen. 00:07:41.59\00:07:43.09 So this is all before your major health challenge, 00:07:43.12\00:07:45.53 you know, you're involved with mission trips. 00:07:45.56\00:07:47.10 It sounds like on yearly basis you'd go on one trip... 00:07:47.13\00:07:48.93 Yes, yes. A trip or two a year. 00:07:48.96\00:07:51.20 Okay. Absolutely. 00:07:51.23\00:07:52.57 Okay, and you're exercising, taking care of your family, 00:07:52.60\00:07:55.84 involved in your church, 00:07:55.87\00:07:57.21 I think we should just hit on the mission thing too. 00:07:57.24\00:07:58.64 So when did you get interested in missions 00:07:58.67\00:08:00.54 'cause for you to go there 00:08:00.58\00:08:01.91 and do this once or twice a year, 00:08:01.94\00:08:03.28 you're baptizing this young lady, 00:08:03.31\00:08:04.65 you're involved. 00:08:04.68\00:08:06.01 So somehow, missions 00:08:06.05\00:08:07.38 has a special place in your heart. 00:08:07.42\00:08:08.75 Missions has a very special place 00:08:08.78\00:08:10.12 in my heart. 00:08:10.15\00:08:11.49 I was the first Adventist in my family. 00:08:11.52\00:08:12.85 Oh, wow! 00:08:12.89\00:08:14.22 When I was nine years old, I went to camp meeting. 00:08:14.26\00:08:17.39 And my joy of camp meeting was the ABC 00:08:17.43\00:08:20.06 they called it back in those days. 00:08:20.10\00:08:21.43 Yes. Oh, yeah. The Book and the Bible House. 00:08:21.46\00:08:22.80 The Book and the Bible House, that's what they called it. 00:08:22.83\00:08:24.17 That's right. 00:08:24.20\00:08:25.53 Now it's the Adventist Book Center. 00:08:25.57\00:08:26.90 And when I went to the Book 00:08:26.94\00:08:28.27 and Bible House, I got two books. 00:08:28.30\00:08:30.14 And I read one of them between Mount Vernon, Ohio 00:08:30.17\00:08:35.18 and Pittsburg, Pennsylvania where I lived at the time. 00:08:35.21\00:08:37.11 I literally finished the book 00:08:37.15\00:08:38.51 as we were pulling up at nine years old. 00:08:38.55\00:08:39.88 What was the book? Do you remember? 00:08:39.91\00:08:41.25 Mighty Mary. 00:08:41.28\00:08:42.62 One was called Mighty Mary and one was called Dr. Rabbit. 00:08:42.65\00:08:45.72 Both of them were about missionaries. 00:08:45.75\00:08:47.56 Dr. Rabbit would be Eric B. Okay. 00:16:48.10\00:16:49.90 And so, we had a little small community hospital. 00:16:49.94\00:16:52.21 So I went to the hospital, and they were changing shifts, 00:16:52.24\00:16:54.88 and they apologized. 00:16:54.91\00:16:56.24 People in big cities will laugh, 00:16:56.28\00:16:57.61 they apologized because I had to wait 15 whole minutes, 00:16:57.65\00:17:00.75 15 whole minutes to get to the back. 00:17:00.78\00:17:03.52 I got to the back, I waited a couple more minutes 00:17:03.55\00:17:05.65 and a little older, vested, 00:17:05.69\00:17:09.52 three-jacket doctor came in, glasses. 00:17:09.56\00:17:12.43 And he talked to me, and literally, 00:17:12.46\00:17:14.30 in another 10 or 15 minutes, he had diagnosed me. 00:17:14.33\00:17:17.03 Wow! 00:17:17.07\00:17:18.40 This is a little country hospital? 00:17:18.43\00:17:19.77 This is a little, small town, suburban hospital. 00:17:19.80\00:17:22.00 Yeah. 00:17:22.04\00:17:23.37 And I didn't know 00:17:23.41\00:17:24.74 how significant that was at the time. 00:17:24.77\00:17:26.74 So he says, "I know what this is. 00:17:26.78\00:17:28.81 You have..." 00:17:28.84\00:17:30.18 And he called it Guillain-Barre syndrome. 00:17:30.21\00:17:33.05 And so what is Guillain-Barre syndrome? 00:17:33.08\00:17:35.32 Well, first of all, what do you do in this age 00:17:35.35\00:17:37.25 when somebody says Guillain-Barre syndrome, 00:17:37.29\00:17:38.82 yes, that's what I did. 00:17:38.85\00:17:40.19 You whipped out your cell phone, 00:17:40.22\00:17:41.56 and you try to Google that real quick. 00:17:41.59\00:17:42.92 I whipped out my cell phone, 00:17:42.96\00:17:44.29 and I didn't know how to spell it, 00:17:44.33\00:17:45.66 but I figured it out, he told me. 00:17:45.69\00:17:47.33 And when I looked at it, I looked at him, 00:17:47.36\00:17:53.80 and I looked at it, and I turned off my phone. 00:17:53.84\00:17:55.84 And I said, "I really shouldn't have 00:17:55.87\00:17:57.21 even looked at it." 00:17:57.24\00:17:58.57 Because... It was scary. 00:17:58.61\00:17:59.94 It was scary, I saw intubation, 00:17:59.97\00:18:02.24 pair of paralysis, and death. 00:18:02.28\00:18:04.98 And so, I thought, 00:18:05.01\00:18:06.35 "Okay, let's just take this slow roll. 00:18:06.38\00:18:07.98 Let's just take our time. 00:18:08.02\00:18:09.65 And so, obviously I had to be admitted 00:18:09.68\00:18:12.19 into the hospital. 00:18:12.22\00:18:13.72 So I was admitted, and they did... 00:18:13.76\00:18:16.49 I won't go through the names of the treatment. 00:18:16.52\00:18:18.36 I don't know that they're all that important, 00:18:18.39\00:18:19.73 but I did a round of treatments. 00:18:19.76\00:18:22.30 And then I did a week of physical therapy, 00:18:22.33\00:18:24.23 and I went home. 00:18:24.27\00:18:25.60 Were your symptoms the same? 00:18:25.63\00:18:26.97 The tongue tingling, the fingers and the toes, 00:18:27.00\00:18:28.74 and that was it or had they progressed? 00:18:28.77\00:18:31.94 The other symptom was that I felt very weak. 00:18:31.97\00:18:34.44 Okay. And very tired. 00:18:34.48\00:18:36.58 But what mother of five doesn't feel weak and tired. 00:18:36.61\00:18:38.91 So I... 00:18:38.95\00:18:40.52 And I kept telling him in the hospital like, 00:18:40.55\00:18:41.88 "I feel weak. 00:18:41.92\00:18:43.25 I feel weak." 00:18:43.28\00:18:44.62 And they were doing the tests, 00:18:44.65\00:18:45.99 but I was passing all of the tests. 00:18:46.02\00:18:47.36 And so, they were thinking, 00:18:47.39\00:18:48.72 "Okay, she's not failing these tests. 00:18:48.76\00:18:50.43 These physical test, she can, 00:18:50.46\00:18:51.79 you know, push my hand down and push her leg out." 00:18:51.83\00:18:54.23 And so, they said, 00:18:54.26\00:18:55.60 "We caught this, you should so grateful, 00:18:55.63\00:18:57.37 you saw what it's on the internet. 00:18:57.40\00:18:59.07 This could be terrible, but we caught it in time. 00:18:59.10\00:19:01.20 You're in good shape. 00:19:01.24\00:19:02.67 Go home with a walker but just use it, 00:19:02.70\00:19:05.57 just in case you need it. 00:19:05.61\00:19:06.94 You won't need it all the time 00:19:06.98\00:19:08.31 but just if you need it, use it." 00:19:08.34\00:19:09.91 So, okay... 00:19:09.94\00:19:11.28 Go ahead. Sure, sure. 00:19:11.31\00:19:12.65 This actually is at the emergency room 00:19:12.68\00:19:14.02 'cause you went to the emergency room, right? 00:19:14.05\00:19:15.38 I went to the emergency room. 00:19:15.42\00:19:16.75 Yes, so then this doctor diagnoses 00:19:16.79\00:19:18.12 which to me is a miracle because like you were saying, 00:19:18.15\00:19:19.75 usually this should take a while. 00:19:19.79\00:19:21.12 I mean, you go in, and they're saying, 00:19:21.16\00:19:22.49 "Well, we're not sure, run some tests, and then, 00:19:22.52\00:19:24.09 oh, we're not sure and run some more tests." 00:19:24.13\00:19:26.63 But this was diagnosed, you said, in 15 minutes? 00:19:26.66\00:19:28.76 This was diagnosed in 15 minutes, 00:19:28.80\00:19:30.13 but here's the thing, at this time... 00:19:30.17\00:19:31.50 It's amazing. 00:19:31.53\00:19:32.87 I still didn't know that that was a big miracle 00:19:32.90\00:19:35.04 because I didn't how rare it was. 00:19:35.07\00:19:37.01 I didn't know how hard it was to pinpoint. 00:19:37.04\00:19:39.31 Okay, so this is hard to pinpoint. 00:19:39.34\00:19:40.74 So it's hard to pinpoint, 00:19:40.78\00:19:42.11 but he just named it so quickly that at that point, 00:19:42.14\00:19:45.41 I still didn't realize 00:19:45.45\00:19:47.12 that that was miracle number one. 00:19:47.15\00:19:48.48 It's incredible 00:19:48.52\00:19:49.85 'cause now they're saying they caught it soon enough. 00:19:49.88\00:19:51.22 They're saying they caught it soon enough. 00:19:51.25\00:19:52.82 And so, and I am borderline complaining 00:19:52.85\00:19:57.39 about being in the hospital for two weeks. 00:19:57.43\00:19:59.26 Right. That's a long time. 00:19:59.29\00:20:00.63 That is a long time. Right? 00:20:00.66\00:20:02.00 And so after two weeks, I come out of the hospital, 00:20:02.03\00:20:04.43 and like I say, just with the walker, 00:20:04.47\00:20:06.57 but just in case, 00:20:06.60\00:20:07.94 you know, we know you don't really want to use it 00:20:07.97\00:20:09.30 but just in case. 00:20:09.34\00:20:10.94 You've done well in physical therapy. 00:20:10.97\00:20:13.38 The personality of this "disease", 00:20:13.41\00:20:16.04 syndrome is that you go down, and then you steadily climb up. 00:20:16.08\00:20:22.55 That's the personality of the disease, right? 00:20:22.58\00:20:24.55 So they're telling me, "When you get home, 00:20:24.59\00:20:26.29 you will continue to get stronger, 00:20:26.32\00:20:28.79 and stronger, and stronger. 00:20:28.82\00:20:30.93 So I get home... 00:20:30.96\00:20:32.29 Well, that's encouraging. Very encouraging. 00:20:32.33\00:20:34.53 I get home not needing to really use the walker 00:20:34.56\00:20:37.30 but being careful, right? 00:20:37.33\00:20:40.17 And then I realized that I'm not getting better, 00:20:40.20\00:20:43.14 I'm not getting stronger, I'm getting weaker. 00:20:43.17\00:20:45.01 Oh, wow. 00:20:45.04\00:20:46.37 So I get home, and I'm able to slowly 00:20:46.41\00:20:48.34 but carefully walk without my walker 00:20:48.38\00:20:51.48 from my room to my bathroom. 00:20:51.51\00:20:54.18 Wow! 00:20:54.22\00:20:55.55 Well, day two, I need to use 00:20:55.58\00:20:57.62 my walker to get to my bathroom. 00:20:57.65\00:20:59.92 Okay, this is a problem. 00:20:59.95\00:21:01.52 Day three, I really need to use my walker to get 00:21:01.56\00:21:04.53 to the bathroom. 00:21:04.56\00:21:05.89 Oh, wow. 00:21:05.93\00:21:07.26 Day three, in the evening, I have a fever of 103 or 104, 00:21:07.30\00:21:10.47 crazy. 00:21:10.50\00:21:12.33 It's day four, I am literally... 00:21:12.37\00:21:15.60 You know, you teach children to slide down the stairs 00:21:15.64\00:21:17.31 on their behind? 00:21:17.34\00:21:18.67 I'm literally sliding down the stairs on my behind 00:21:18.71\00:21:21.58 because I can't walk. 00:21:21.61\00:21:23.21 This is four days after coming home? 00:21:23.24\00:21:24.75 Four days after coming home. 00:21:24.78\00:21:26.11 And they're saying you should be going up? 00:21:26.15\00:21:27.48 I should be coming up, not down. 00:21:27.52\00:21:29.28 I get to the bottom of the stairs, 00:21:29.32\00:21:30.69 and I still can't walk 30 feet to my car. 00:21:30.72\00:21:34.56 So my husband picks me up and takes me to the car 00:21:34.59\00:21:37.66 and takes me back to the emergency room. 00:21:37.69\00:21:39.09 Good. Okay. 00:21:39.13\00:21:40.46 Okay, we get back to the emergency room, 00:21:40.50\00:21:42.06 and they say, 00:21:42.10\00:21:43.43 "Yeah, something's definitely wrong here. 00:21:43.47\00:21:44.80 You should not be... 00:21:44.83\00:21:46.17 You're going in the wrong direction." 00:21:46.20\00:21:47.54 Right. 00:21:47.57\00:21:48.90 So now there's more tests and the vampires, 00:21:48.94\00:21:52.14 you know, more blood and more blood. 00:21:52.17\00:21:54.51 One time, the lady came in 00:21:54.54\00:21:55.88 and took my blood, and she said, "Wow! 00:21:55.91\00:21:58.21 I've never taken this much blood before." 00:21:58.25\00:22:01.95 That makes me feel really good, thank you so much. 00:22:01.98\00:22:04.45 That's real good bedside manners at that moment. 00:22:04.49\00:22:05.82 Thank you so much. 00:22:05.85\00:22:07.32 And then the next day, they came and said, 00:22:07.36\00:22:08.69 "Oh, your blood count's really low. 00:22:08.72\00:22:10.13 We have to take..." 00:22:10.16\00:22:11.49 "Oh! Yeah? 00:22:28.58\00:22:29.91 Wow. 00:22:29.94\00:22:31.28 By the time they decided 00:22:31.31\00:22:32.65 to approach it more aggressively, 00:22:32.68\00:22:34.05 I can't even stand up to use the little, 00:22:34.08\00:22:37.59 I'm going to use the term porta potty 00:22:37.62\00:22:39.45 that's in the room three steps from my bed. 00:22:39.49\00:22:41.69 I can't get up to do that. 00:22:41.72\00:22:43.36 A question for you, so this would be now what, 00:22:43.39\00:22:44.89 three weeks 00:22:44.93\00:22:46.26 since you originally went to the emergency room? 00:22:46.29\00:22:47.63 Exactly. 00:22:47.66\00:22:49.00 Let me ask you something right, you know, okay. 00:22:49.03\00:22:50.37 Sure, sure. 00:22:50.40\00:22:51.73 So in your mind, 00:22:51.77\00:22:53.10 how are you dealing with this mentally, 00:22:53.13\00:22:54.47 your family, 00:22:54.50\00:22:55.84 because there's somebody at home right now 00:22:55.87\00:22:57.21 that could be just exactly where you are, 00:22:57.24\00:22:58.57 maybe not with that disease, but it was something else. 00:22:58.61\00:22:59.94 So you, again, active in church, 00:22:59.97\00:23:03.14 active mom, a runner, 00:23:03.18\00:23:05.25 mission trips, now you're using the walker, 00:23:05.28\00:23:07.52 now you can't even really use the walker, 00:23:07.55\00:23:08.88 you can barely make it 00:23:08.92\00:23:10.25 to the little thing by your bed, 00:23:10.29\00:23:11.62 what is going through your mind mentally? 00:23:11.65\00:23:14.22 I'm not going to give you the answer you want yet 00:23:14.26\00:23:16.32 because at this point, my mind is thinking, 00:23:16.36\00:23:18.69 "Man, this is going to be an awesome story." 00:23:18.73\00:23:21.10 Okay, so you still had courage then in your heart. 00:23:21.13\00:23:23.06 Oh, yeah. Okay. 00:23:32.07\00:23:33.41 This is going to be 00:23:33.44\00:23:34.78 an amazing testimony honestly... 00:23:34.81\00:23:36.14 So your outlook still really... 00:23:36.18\00:23:37.51 My outlook is amazing. 00:23:37.55\00:23:38.88 At this point, I'm not even trying 00:23:38.91\00:23:40.25 to have a positive outlook. 00:23:40.28\00:23:41.62 I just know like this is going to be a great story. 00:23:41.65\00:23:43.59 I'm going to be fine. They caught this thing. 00:23:43.62\00:23:45.55 Yup. We're having a little... 00:23:45.59\00:23:46.92 There's a little hiccup, but it's going to be fine. 00:23:46.96\00:23:49.39 And so, at this point, this is what I'm thinking. 00:23:49.42\00:23:51.26 Okay. Okay, yeah. 00:23:51.29\00:23:52.63 Next thing I know, we had a good friend 00:23:52.66\00:23:54.30 who lived in Pittsburg 00:23:54.33\00:23:55.70 who was a pediatric neuro, something or other, 00:23:55.73\00:23:59.40 I can't remember. 00:23:59.43\00:24:00.77 Sorry, I can't remember your official title. 00:24:00.80\00:24:02.70 And she said to my husband, 00:24:02.74\00:24:04.11 you know, when they go out in the hallway and talk, 00:24:04.14\00:24:05.47 there's always something. 00:24:05.51\00:24:06.84 There's an issue. 00:24:06.88\00:24:08.21 She says, "You need to get her to the main hospital, 00:24:08.24\00:24:10.95 and you need to do that quickly." 00:24:10.98\00:24:12.31 I'm still at the community hospital. 00:24:12.35\00:24:13.85 And you need to do that quickly. 00:24:13.88\00:24:15.35 So now, my husband's like, 00:24:15.38\00:24:16.72 "Oh, man, how am I going to tell 00:24:16.75\00:24:18.09 these people like, we need to move." 00:24:18.12\00:24:20.69 Well, when my husband went and talked to the doctor, 00:24:20.72\00:24:22.32 guess what he said? 00:24:22.36\00:24:23.69 "You're right". 00:24:23.73\00:24:25.69 He said, "You're absolutely right. 00:24:25.73\00:24:27.06 We need to get her over there. We need to get her there now." 00:24:27.10\00:24:29.53 So they did the paperwork and immediately shift me 00:24:29.56\00:24:31.93 over to the main teaching hospital. 00:24:31.97\00:24:35.87 I get there 00:24:35.90\00:24:37.24 and the doctor comes in the room, I'm in bed. 00:24:37.27\00:24:38.91 The doctor comes in the room, and the doctor says to me, 00:24:38.94\00:24:41.21 he looks me over, and he says, 00:24:41.24\00:24:43.04 "Hi, Loretta, can you give me a thumbs up?" 00:24:43.08\00:24:48.65 And I literally could not give the doctor a thumbs up. 00:24:48.68\00:24:51.59 Oh, wow. 00:24:51.62\00:24:52.95 You couldn't even move your hand, so... 00:24:52.99\00:24:54.32 I could not move my hands 00:24:54.36\00:24:56.73 enough to give the doctor a thumbs up. 00:24:56.76\00:25:00.63 Wow! 00:25:00.66\00:25:02.00 So I looked at my hand, and I looked at the doctor, 00:25:02.03\00:25:05.40 and I looked at my hand, and I said, 00:25:05.43\00:25:07.24 "I can give you smile, 00:25:07.27\00:25:08.80 but I can't give you a thumbs up. 00:25:08.84\00:25:10.47 I can't do it." Oh, wow. 00:25:10.51\00:25:12.84 And so, and I understood later 00:25:12.87\00:25:15.64 that that's kind of the last thing. 00:25:15.68\00:25:17.38 You know, after the thumbs up, 00:25:17.41\00:25:18.75 they're asking, "Can you blink your eyes." 00:25:18.78\00:25:20.42 You know, I mean, but he knew I could blink 00:25:20.45\00:25:22.42 because I was able to talk and communicate. 00:25:22.45\00:25:24.69 And so, he then started from the beginning. 00:25:24.72\00:25:27.32 We don't what this is. 00:25:27.36\00:25:28.69 Let's start from the beginning 00:25:28.72\00:25:30.06 with testing and getting it all figured out. 00:25:30.09\00:25:32.66 And so, they tested, and they said, 00:25:32.69\00:25:36.10 "Yeah, it's that what it is. 00:25:36.13\00:25:37.63 We just have to treat it more aggressively." 00:25:37.67\00:25:39.83 And this doctor, you know, I would say, 00:25:39.87\00:25:42.47 he was a bit of a hotshot, you know, and kind of... 00:25:42.50\00:25:44.67 I guess you have to be a little confident 00:25:44.71\00:25:46.64 to be a neuro... 00:25:46.68\00:25:51.08 Not a neurosurgeon, a neurological doctor. 00:25:51.11\00:25:52.45 Neurologist. 00:25:52.48\00:25:53.82 Neurologist, thank you, thank you, thank you, 00:25:53.85\00:25:55.18 to be a neurologist. 00:25:55.22\00:25:56.55 And so, he was a little cocky and a little confident, 00:25:56.58\00:25:58.05 and so he was like, "We got this. 00:25:58.09\00:25:59.52 You know, this is what we're going to do." 00:25:59.55\00:26:01.86 And so, they started a different treatment 00:26:01.89\00:26:05.96 which was every other day for me, for five days. 00:26:05.99\00:26:08.86 And we did that, and they said, "You're getting better." 00:26:08.90\00:26:12.73 You know, I could do this a little, 00:26:12.77\00:26:14.77 and I could... 00:26:14.80\00:26:17.04 I think we have a picture. Okay. 00:26:17.07\00:26:18.47 So go to that... I think we have a picture. 00:26:18.51\00:26:19.84 Of you in the hospital there? Of me in the hospital. 00:26:19.87\00:26:21.34 I don't like this picture. Oh, wow! 00:26:21.38\00:26:23.68 Yeah, somebody put my arm up there. 00:26:23.71\00:26:27.08 I didn't put it there, right. 00:26:27.12\00:26:28.45 So you couldn't even move your arm? 00:26:28.48\00:26:29.82 I couldn't move it at all. 00:26:29.85\00:26:31.42 Just barely moved your thumb against your forefinger. 00:26:31.45\00:26:34.42 Barely moved my thumb against my forefinger, 00:26:34.46\00:26:36.16 so I asked someone to, 00:26:36.19\00:26:37.53 you know, plop it there so that I could, 00:26:37.56\00:26:39.59 you know, rest. 00:26:39.63\00:26:40.96 And so, they did the treatments, 00:26:41.00\00:26:43.20 I got stronger, I was able to move a little. 00:26:43.23\00:26:45.53 And they said, "You're ready for physical therapy." 00:26:45.57\00:26:47.70 That's a good sign. 00:26:47.74\00:26:49.07 Now mind you, it's a good sign, and I was active, right? 00:26:49.10\00:26:53.34 Seriously, I went to physical therapy like Rambo, 00:26:53.38\00:26:57.61 like I was ready. 00:26:57.65\00:26:59.55 I mean literally when they were wheeling me 00:26:59.58\00:27:01.48 in to the physical therapy place... 00:27:01.52\00:27:03.69 Now I wasn't doing all this, but when they wheeled me in, 00:27:03.72\00:27:06.19 I was talking... 00:27:06.22\00:27:07.56 Going past talking to the people saying, 00:27:07.59\00:27:09.36 "I'm going to be your star. 00:27:09.39\00:27:10.89 You're going to have my picture up. 00:27:10.93\00:27:12.26 I am going to take this physical therapy thing, 00:27:12.29\00:27:14.46 and I'm going to run out of this place." 00:27:14.50\00:27:16.77 You really took the bull by the horns. 00:27:16.80\00:27:18.13 I took the bull by the horns. I was ready. 00:27:18.17\00:27:20.44 And I went in there, 00:27:20.47\00:27:21.80 and you know, they do some test, 00:27:21.84\00:27:23.17 and I was like, "What you got? 00:27:23.20\00:27:24.54 Like, let's do it." You know, they said, "Do five?" 00:27:24.57\00:27:26.54 I'm going to do seven, 00:27:26.57\00:27:27.91 like I'm taking this thing by the horns. 00:27:27.94\00:27:30.65 But something strange happened. 00:27:30.68\00:27:33.21 Day two or three in physical therapy, 00:27:33.25\00:27:35.38 instead of getting stronger, 00:27:35.42\00:27:38.35 I'm getting weaker. 00:27:38.39\00:27:42.49 And so, you know, one day in physical therapy, 00:27:42.52\00:27:45.39 I could do five, 00:27:45.43\00:27:47.00 the next day in physical therapy, 00:27:47.03\00:27:49.43 I could barely do anything. 00:27:49.46\00:27:50.80 And I said to them, 00:27:50.83\00:27:52.17 "I'm getting weaker, I'm getting weaker." 00:27:52.20\00:27:54.30 The first time this happened, 00:27:54.34\00:27:55.74 and they didn't really believe me, they said, 00:27:55.77\00:27:57.11 "Oh, let's give it a day or so and see what happens." 00:27:57.14\00:27:59.41 And so, in a day or so, 00:27:59.44\00:28:01.44 I was back to barely being able to give a thumbs up. 00:28:01.48\00:28:05.01 In a day or so, 00:28:05.05\00:28:06.38 I was barely able to feed myself. 00:28:06.41\00:28:07.75 In a day or so, you see I like to talk, 00:28:07.78\00:28:09.85 I could barely even hold my little iPhone 00:28:09.88\00:28:13.56 to talk on the phone. 00:28:13.59\00:28:15.16 So they said, "No more physical therapy, 00:28:15.19\00:28:16.73 back to the hospital you go. 00:28:16.76\00:28:19.49 We got to get this thing figured out." 00:28:19.53\00:28:21.33 So now, I'm back in the hospital, 00:28:21.36\00:28:24.30 I'm back getting another treatment 00:28:24.33\00:28:26.20 and trying to figure out. 00:28:26.23\00:28:27.57 So they're saying 00:28:27.60\00:28:28.94 you don't have Guillain-Barre at this point? 00:28:28.97\00:28:30.31 No, no, no, no. This time they still have... 00:28:30.34\00:28:31.67 They're still thinking it, okay. 00:28:31.71\00:28:33.04 They're still thinking it. 00:28:33.07\00:28:34.41 They're just thinking they can't... 00:28:34.44\00:28:35.78 It's a tough case, 00:28:35.81\00:28:37.15 and they can't really wrestle it down. 00:28:37.18\00:28:38.51 They have to figure out exactly which treatment. 00:28:38.55\00:28:39.88 So we go back... 00:28:39.91\00:28:41.25 Let me just ask you again, 00:28:41.28\00:28:42.62 how far then after your original diagnosis 00:28:42.65\00:28:43.99 in the emergency room 00:28:44.02\00:28:45.35 with the little doctor that was there? 00:28:45.39\00:28:46.72 You're talking maybe a month now 00:28:46.76\00:28:48.09 all this has taken place with going... 00:28:48.12\00:28:49.46 This is to... 00:28:49.49\00:28:50.83 I went to physical therapy right after Thanksgiving. 00:28:50.86\00:28:55.36 Okay, so maybe a month or so. 00:28:55.40\00:28:57.07 It's a month 'cause I went in, October 26, 00:28:57.10\00:28:58.43 that day I remember. 00:28:58.47\00:28:59.80 That's amazing. 00:28:59.83\00:29:01.17 Well, it's a lot to take place in a month. 00:29:01.20\00:29:02.54 It's a lot to take place in a month, so. 00:29:02.57\00:29:03.91 Okay, so they're saying, 00:29:03.94\00:29:05.27 "Now we need to treat it with something else." 00:29:05.31\00:29:06.64 "We need to really go after this thing." 00:29:06.68\00:29:08.08 So we're back in the hospital now, 00:29:08.11\00:29:10.55 and we're going after it, and I'm reading your mind, 00:29:10.58\00:29:12.85 and you want to know what I was thinking, and... 00:29:12.88\00:29:15.32 Very good. 00:29:15.35\00:29:16.69 I want to know what you're thinking 00:29:16.72\00:29:18.05 because that's a lot to process. 00:29:18.09\00:29:19.42 It is, yeah. It's a lot to process. 00:29:19.45\00:29:20.79 But I'm a little crazy. 00:29:20.82\00:29:22.16 So what I was thinking was, 00:29:22.19\00:29:23.53 "Boy, this is really going to be a good story. 00:29:23.56\00:29:25.16 I mean, I didn't know you had all this mind, God. 00:29:25.19\00:29:26.90 This is really shaping up to be a good story." 00:29:26.93\00:29:29.36 So you still had a positive outlook? 00:29:29.40\00:29:31.13 Still had a positive outlook. Yeah. 00:29:31.17\00:29:34.27 That's a testimony to your faith in God. 00:29:34.30\00:29:35.90 It is. You know, that really is. 00:29:35.94\00:29:37.81 No. It's not? 00:29:37.84\00:29:39.17 That's a testimony to God's keeping power. 00:29:39.21\00:29:41.58 Amen. 00:29:41.61\00:29:43.04 That's not a testimony to anything 00:29:43.08\00:29:44.58 that has to do with me. 00:29:44.61\00:29:45.95 That's good. 00:29:45.98\00:29:47.32 Nothing, nothing at all that has to do with me 00:29:47.35\00:29:49.08 because we have to understand that, 00:29:49.12\00:29:51.39 in these situations, 00:29:51.42\00:29:53.49 we're sometimes trying so hard to get better 00:29:53.52\00:29:56.32 and trying so hard to be positive 00:29:56.36\00:29:58.59 and sometimes, the song said, 00:29:58.63\00:30:01.43 we really have to be still 00:30:01.46\00:30:03.37 and know and be still and let God be God. 00:30:03.40\00:30:07.80 And so, it had nothing to do with my great attitude. 00:30:07.84\00:30:11.01 It just had everything to do with God. 00:30:11.04\00:30:13.11 Maybe God said, 00:30:13.14\00:30:14.58 "I have these imaginations in my mind, 00:30:14.61\00:30:16.85 maybe God said, "You know, we can... 00:30:16.88\00:30:19.21 Devil, you can mess with her body, 00:30:19.25\00:30:21.12 but you can't have her mind." 00:30:21.15\00:30:22.48 I don't know. I don't know... 00:30:22.52\00:30:23.85 Like a Job experience. Like a Job experience. 00:30:23.89\00:30:25.55 Maybe, I do not in any way compare myself to Job, 00:30:25.59\00:30:28.59 just want to say that. 00:30:28.62\00:30:29.96 Right. 00:30:29.99\00:30:31.33 But at this point, I was still positive. 00:30:31.36\00:30:33.73 So now, what happens now 00:30:33.76\00:30:37.33 is that this back 00:30:37.37\00:30:41.77 and forth happens four times. 00:30:41.80\00:30:43.84 Wow. 00:30:43.87\00:30:45.21 So we get stronger in the hospital... 00:30:45.24\00:30:46.57 You think you're getting better? 00:30:46.61\00:30:47.94 And we go to physical therapy. And then you get weaker? 00:30:47.98\00:30:49.84 And then we get weaker. 00:30:49.88\00:30:51.21 And then you go back to the hospital? 00:30:51.25\00:30:52.58 And then we go back to the hospital. 00:30:52.61\00:30:53.95 And we go to... And every time I go... 00:30:53.98\00:30:56.42 Now I'm getting to know the people in rehab, right? 00:30:56.45\00:30:57.92 Yeah. 00:30:57.95\00:30:59.29 Because I'm going back to the same rehab. 00:30:59.32\00:31:01.96 And this is an awesome rehab. 00:31:01.99\00:31:03.36 The people literally come from all over the United States 00:31:03.39\00:31:06.33 and the world to go to this rehab. 00:31:06.36\00:31:07.90 Oh, wow. Top-notch. 00:31:07.93\00:31:09.26 And so... Top-notch. 00:31:09.30\00:31:10.70 And so, I come back, and they're like, 00:31:10.73\00:31:12.07 "Oh, great, you know, you're back. 00:31:12.10\00:31:13.44 This is awesome." 00:31:13.47\00:31:14.80 And then they're like, 00:31:14.84\00:31:16.17 "Oh, great, you're sick, you're going back." 00:31:16.20\00:31:18.57 The fourth time this happened, okay, time number four, 00:31:18.61\00:31:24.08 I go back to the hospital, and they say, 00:31:24.11\00:31:25.75 "We need to rethink some things. 00:31:25.78\00:31:28.05 We need to really look at exactly 00:31:28.08\00:31:30.99 what's happening here." 00:31:31.02\00:31:32.65 And so they do more test 00:31:32.69\00:31:35.19 and they do this nerve and muscle biopsy, 00:31:35.22\00:31:38.03 and take a chunk of nerve 00:31:38.06\00:31:39.46 and a chunk of muscle out of my leg. 00:31:39.49\00:31:43.70 I'll tell you something funny. 00:31:43.73\00:31:45.80 You see how your face is like ooh. 00:31:45.83\00:31:48.30 That's what I'm thinking, ooh. That doesn't sound pleasant. 00:31:48.34\00:31:51.87 The scar for this thing is about this big. 00:31:51.91\00:31:54.81 It's a little small skinny scar. 00:31:54.84\00:31:58.21 And when I came out of surgery, 00:31:58.25\00:32:00.02 there was a little band-aid on my leg, down there. 00:32:00.05\00:32:03.79 But my leg hurt, like my whole body hurt. 00:32:03.82\00:32:06.22 I'm sure. 00:32:06.25\00:32:07.59 It was so painful, and I said to them, 00:32:07.62\00:32:08.96 "Listen, I need a bandage that commiserate 00:32:08.99\00:32:12.89 with the size of this pain that's going on." 00:32:12.93\00:32:14.50 Not a band-aid. I don't need a band-aid. 00:32:14.53\00:32:16.46 I need people to walk in this room 00:32:16.50\00:32:18.07 and feel some kind of way... 00:32:18.10\00:32:19.63 Feel like, "Oh, Loretta's really gone 00:32:19.67\00:32:21.17 through a lot of stuff. 00:32:21.20\00:32:22.54 Loretta's really hurt." Yes. 00:32:22.57\00:32:23.91 I need something to show what's going on here. 00:32:23.94\00:32:26.88 So all through this, I said... 00:32:26.91\00:32:28.58 I'm laughing, I'm in good humor, God is... 00:32:28.61\00:32:33.25 So now though... 00:32:33.28\00:32:36.38 Oh, I skipped something really important. 00:32:36.42\00:32:37.85 It's fine. Let's go back to that. 00:32:37.89\00:32:39.22 Really important. Let's go back. 00:32:39.25\00:32:40.96 When I was home for those four days, 00:32:40.99\00:32:43.02 you know, I was starting to feel weak and tired. 00:32:43.06\00:32:44.66 Yes. Literally God spoke to me. 00:32:44.69\00:32:48.66 And God said to me, 00:32:48.70\00:32:50.90 "This isn't over, but you're going to be okay." 00:32:50.93\00:32:54.10 Oh, wow. Okay. 00:32:54.14\00:32:56.44 So now though, it's... 00:32:56.47\00:32:59.11 I went in October, 00:32:59.14\00:33:01.24 short stint at home in November, 00:33:01.28\00:33:04.11 back and forth, December, January, 00:33:04.15\00:33:08.65 now we're into February. 00:33:08.68\00:33:10.19 Wow. Okay, several months now. 00:33:10.22\00:33:11.79 So now we're into some months... 00:33:11.82\00:33:13.15 Yes, you are. 00:33:13.19\00:33:14.52 Did they come up with the diagnosis 00:33:14.56\00:33:15.89 after they did this nerve... 00:33:15.92\00:33:17.26 They took this piece of nerve out 00:33:17.29\00:33:18.63 in that big surgery? 00:33:18.66\00:33:20.00 Well, after they took the piece of nerve out, 00:33:20.03\00:33:21.36 they were still counseling with each other 00:33:21.40\00:33:22.73 and trying to get it all figured out. 00:33:22.76\00:33:27.00 But in the meantime, I'm having some questions now, 00:33:27.04\00:33:30.67 and I'm talking to God now... 00:33:30.71\00:33:33.07 'Cause this has been like four months now. 00:33:33.11\00:33:34.51 Yes, and I wanted to know, 00:33:34.54\00:33:36.75 my main question is, I have a few, 00:33:36.78\00:33:38.75 but my main question is what does okay really mean, 00:33:38.78\00:33:42.58 because you said, God... 00:33:42.62\00:33:43.95 He had said you'd be okay. You said it's not over. 00:33:43.99\00:33:46.99 But you'll be okay. But you're going to be okay. 00:33:47.02\00:33:49.09 So, you know, when people die, you say they're resting now. 00:33:49.12\00:33:51.89 They're in a better place, they're okay, they're resting. 00:33:51.93\00:33:55.20 And so I'm like, well, let's go back, 00:33:55.23\00:33:56.77 maybe I misunderstood this thing, 00:33:56.80\00:33:58.20 like what exactly is okay. 00:33:58.23\00:34:00.24 I don't know if you're familiar with Joni Eareckson Tada. 00:34:00.27\00:34:01.60 Oh, yeah. Yes, we are. 00:34:01.64\00:34:02.97 Absolutely. 00:34:03.00\00:34:04.34 Okay, so now I'm trying to rethink this thing 00:34:04.37\00:34:06.31 and think that I missed the message 00:34:06.34\00:34:07.71 because okay, for me, 00:34:07.74\00:34:09.28 meant I was going to be back at my regular life. 00:34:09.31\00:34:12.31 So I'm asking God, you know, when am I going 00:34:12.35\00:34:13.95 to be able to be a wife to my husband, 00:34:13.98\00:34:17.22 when am I going to be able to be a mother to my children. 00:34:17.25\00:34:19.82 That's right. 00:34:19.85\00:34:21.19 My oldest is getting ready to get married in May, 00:34:21.22\00:34:25.16 it's February. 00:34:25.19\00:34:26.53 And I can't pick up the cell phone, 00:34:26.56\00:34:27.90 I can't go and shop for dresses 00:34:27.93\00:34:31.43 and party favors and... 00:34:31.47\00:34:35.20 My youngest is in first grade. 00:34:35.24\00:34:37.27 He's learning to read without me, like when. 00:34:37.31\00:34:40.14 So I'm asking God these questions, 00:34:40.18\00:34:42.74 and God says to me, 00:34:42.78\00:34:44.11 "No, no, no, no, no, 00:34:44.15\00:34:45.48 we need to back up a little bit. 00:34:45.51\00:34:46.85 Let me ask you a question." 00:34:46.88\00:34:48.22 Now I got scared 00:34:48.25\00:34:49.58 'cause, you know, I know the story of Job, 00:34:49.62\00:34:52.32 but God was merciful, 00:34:52.35\00:34:53.69 and He only asked me one question, 00:34:53.72\00:34:55.06 and that question 00:34:55.09\00:34:56.42 was not when are you going to get well, 00:34:56.46\00:34:58.03 not what does okay mean, 00:34:58.06\00:34:59.89 not are you going to be telling of my love from a wheelchair, 00:34:59.93\00:35:03.77 the question is, "Loretta, do you trust me?" 00:35:03.80\00:35:06.67 That's deep. 00:35:06.70\00:35:09.00 That's the question, and I want to tell you 00:35:09.04\00:35:10.37 because I already told I was a Christian, 00:35:10.41\00:35:12.41 I already told you I was going on mission trips... 00:35:12.44\00:35:13.88 Oh, yeah. 00:35:13.91\00:35:15.24 I already told you I was active in my church. 00:35:15.28\00:35:16.61 That's right. Yeah. 00:35:16.64\00:35:17.98 So what I want to tell you now is that God said, 00:35:18.01\00:35:19.35 "Do you trust me?" 00:35:19.38\00:35:20.72 And I said, "Yes, Lord, I absolutely trust you." 00:35:20.75\00:35:24.79 But that's not what happened. 00:35:24.82\00:35:26.15 Yeah. And... 00:35:26.19\00:35:30.29 It's easy to generally trust God. 00:35:30.33\00:35:33.29 It is. I would agree with you. Right. 00:35:33.33\00:35:34.66 It's very easy. 00:35:34.70\00:35:36.03 If I ask anybody, anybody in the audience, 00:35:36.06\00:35:38.00 do you trust God? 00:35:38.03\00:35:40.00 You'd say, "Yeah, I do." 00:35:40.04\00:35:42.20 But, you see, when God says, "Do you trust me?" 00:35:42.24\00:35:45.44 And you look over there and you see what you want. 00:35:45.47\00:35:47.41 You see. 00:35:47.44\00:35:48.94 But you look over there... And see what's reality. 00:35:48.98\00:35:51.45 And see what could be the reality. 00:35:51.48\00:35:53.68 It's not so easy to then... 00:35:53.72\00:35:56.89 "Yes, God, I trust you." That's right. 00:35:56.92\00:35:59.65 So it took about two weeks. 00:35:59.69\00:36:02.12 And I couldn't have the conversation with everyone 00:36:02.16\00:36:05.89 because I had been so positive. 00:36:05.93\00:36:09.23 And it wasn't that I was negative, 00:36:09.26\00:36:10.77 but I had to have some real, 00:36:10.80\00:36:12.63 honest what does this really mean. 00:36:12.67\00:36:17.41 Oh, yeah. That's right. 00:36:17.44\00:36:18.77 What could this really look like, 00:36:18.81\00:36:20.14 and if I say, "Yes, God, I trust you." 00:36:20.18\00:36:23.51 And I get that over there, whatever that over there is, 00:36:23.55\00:36:27.32 I'm going to have to be good with it. 00:36:27.35\00:36:28.72 Yeah, am I okay with that? Am I okay with that? 00:36:28.75\00:36:30.95 And I'm not going to lie. I'm going to... 00:36:30.99\00:36:32.59 Took a couple of weeks 00:36:32.62\00:36:35.49 and finally I said, "God, I'm yours, I trust you." 00:36:35.52\00:36:39.89 Amen. Amen. 00:36:39.93\00:36:43.20 It's going to be what it's going to be, 00:36:43.23\00:36:45.40 and we're in this thing together. 00:36:45.43\00:36:46.87 You know, a lot of... I'm sorry, go head, sweety. 00:36:46.90\00:36:48.47 I was just going to say I think, Loretta, 00:36:48.50\00:36:50.01 that's pivotal in the whole story. 00:36:50.04\00:36:51.81 To me, you know, you reach a point in that, 00:36:51.84\00:36:54.68 and I didn't go through that, 00:36:54.71\00:36:56.04 I'm just walking through the journey with you, 00:36:56.08\00:36:57.45 I got goosebumps just sitting here, 00:36:57.48\00:36:59.18 you know, as you told the story because I think 00:36:59.21\00:37:01.38 that's the place the Lord Jesus wants to bring each one of us, 00:37:01.42\00:37:04.95 to that point of do we trust Him, 00:37:04.99\00:37:07.06 not in a general sense of do we trust God, 00:37:07.09\00:37:09.69 but do we trust Him with our lives, 00:37:09.72\00:37:11.79 do we trust Him in the midst of God 00:37:11.83\00:37:14.50 is the reality of my life going to be something painful, 00:37:14.53\00:37:17.53 can I still trust you in the midst of that. 00:37:17.57\00:37:20.57 That's powerful. Yeah. 00:37:20.60\00:37:23.84 And I think that... 00:37:23.87\00:37:26.57 Just to divert for a quick second, 00:37:26.61\00:37:28.48 I think that 00:37:28.51\00:37:30.68 that's the question that God asks all of us. 00:37:30.71\00:37:35.35 It may not be in health situation, 00:37:35.38\00:37:39.39 it could be in a health situation, 00:37:39.42\00:37:41.12 but it could be in a marriage situation. 00:37:41.16\00:37:42.66 That's right. 00:37:42.69\00:37:44.03 It could be in a financial situation. 00:37:44.06\00:37:45.49 With your kids. 00:37:45.53\00:37:46.86 With your kids, 00:37:46.90\00:37:48.96 with a wayward child, whatever it is, 00:37:49.00\00:37:52.43 you know, God doesn't want us to generally say, 00:37:52.47\00:37:54.30 "Oh, yes, God, I trust you." 00:37:54.34\00:37:55.97 He wants us to... 00:37:56.00\00:37:57.34 Look over there 00:37:57.37\00:37:58.71 and look at the worst-case scenario and say, 00:37:58.74\00:38:00.38 "Yeah, if that happens, I'll trust you." 00:38:00.41\00:38:04.78 And honestly, I think anybody that does that just like 00:38:04.81\00:38:08.05 that is not being honest. 00:38:08.08\00:38:09.72 You're not processing it fully, you know. 00:38:09.75\00:38:11.15 You're not processing fully, at least for me. 00:38:11.19\00:38:13.02 Maybe I shouldn't put that on everybody. 00:38:13.05\00:38:14.69 It took me a while... 00:38:14.72\00:38:16.06 Yeah, that makes sense. To get to that. 00:38:16.09\00:38:17.43 Because remember, from the beginning, 00:38:17.46\00:38:18.89 this is going to be a testimony. 00:38:18.93\00:38:20.53 Oh, yeah. 00:38:20.56\00:38:21.90 And so, here's another little truth 00:38:21.93\00:38:24.73 in telling the story moment. 00:38:24.77\00:38:27.64 Many times, during the experience, 00:38:27.67\00:38:29.47 I felt like I was in a life time movie. 00:38:29.50\00:38:32.21 And I anytime expected to wake up 00:38:32.24\00:38:33.98 and hear the director say, 00:38:34.01\00:38:35.34 "Okay, cut, go to commercial, you know, new thing." 00:38:35.38\00:38:38.61 And so honestly, when I told God, 00:38:38.65\00:38:41.68 "Yes, I trust You," 00:38:41.72\00:38:43.72 deep in the recesses of my mind, 00:38:43.75\00:38:45.65 something was supposed to happen. 00:38:45.69\00:38:47.16 Yup. 00:38:47.19\00:38:48.52 You think, "Okay, He's going to do a miracle. 00:38:48.56\00:38:50.06 Something's going to happen. Something's going to come out." 00:38:50.09\00:38:52.33 And soon, it's God waiting for the surrender, right? 00:38:52.36\00:38:54.56 God's waiting for me to say, "Yes, God, I trust You." 00:38:54.60\00:38:57.13 Now He can work in my life. Bingo! 00:38:57.17\00:38:59.40 But what if that doesn't happen. 00:38:59.43\00:39:00.77 Absolutely. It was Abraham. 00:39:00.80\00:39:02.60 You know, he was ready, right? Right. 00:39:02.64\00:39:04.11 And God provided the ram in the thicket. 00:39:04.14\00:39:05.64 God provided that ram in the thicket. 00:39:05.67\00:39:08.21 Yeah. 00:39:08.24\00:39:09.58 Said, "Dude, like I got this." Right? 00:39:09.61\00:39:11.85 And so, God probably didn't say dude, 00:39:11.88\00:39:13.21 but anyway, you got my point. 00:39:13.25\00:39:14.58 And so... 00:39:14.62\00:39:15.95 But the thing is Abraham was obeying, wasn't he? 00:39:15.98\00:39:17.32 He was obeying. Right. 00:39:17.35\00:39:18.69 To what God asked even though it didn't make sense. 00:39:18.72\00:39:20.29 And he was in full trust mode. 00:39:20.32\00:39:22.02 I would say 100%, 00:39:22.06\00:39:24.19 "God, I got this, and I'll do it." 00:39:24.23\00:39:26.23 And God said, "You don't have to do it." 00:39:26.26\00:39:27.60 "Yup, that's far enough." 00:39:27.63\00:39:28.96 So deep in my mind, 00:39:29.00\00:39:30.33 after I said, "Yes, God, I trust you." 00:39:30.37\00:39:33.23 Then I was supposed to take up my bed and walk. 00:39:33.27\00:39:38.07 Did that happen? No. 00:39:38.11\00:39:40.18 What happened was that... 00:39:40.21\00:39:42.14 the doctors came in. 00:39:45.31\00:39:47.32 You know when they all come, it's not good, right? 00:39:47.35\00:39:49.28 I mean, it's never good when they all show up. 00:39:49.32\00:39:53.09 And so they came in and my reward for saying 00:39:53.12\00:39:57.53 "Yes, God, I trust you" 00:39:57.56\00:39:59.46 was one, we have a new diagnosis, and again, 00:39:59.49\00:40:04.53 I don't know, the first word in the diagnosis is chronic. 00:40:04.57\00:40:09.20 Boy, that doesn't sound good. No. 00:40:09.24\00:40:12.11 When I think of that, 00:40:12.14\00:40:13.48 the rest of your life basically I think. 00:40:13.51\00:40:14.84 That's the rest of your life. 00:40:14.88\00:40:16.21 Okay, so that's the first problem. 00:40:16.24\00:40:19.71 The second problem is that not only is it chronic, 00:40:19.75\00:40:24.15 there are chronic conditions that you can be okay with. 00:40:24.19\00:40:26.92 You can function with. Sure. 00:40:26.96\00:40:28.29 They said, "So what we want to do 00:40:28.32\00:40:29.89 is we want to start setting you up 00:40:29.92\00:40:32.63 to live 00:40:32.66\00:40:36.83 from a wheelchair. 00:40:36.87\00:40:38.93 We want to start setting you up to live 00:40:38.97\00:40:42.77 like you are now." 00:40:42.80\00:40:46.71 This is definitely a problem. Oh, yeah. 00:40:46.74\00:40:48.74 This is not the way it... 00:40:48.78\00:40:50.11 This is not the way the story is supposed to go. 00:40:50.15\00:40:52.25 I'm supposed to say, "Yes, God, I trust You." 00:40:52.28\00:40:54.68 And He said, "Loretta, you're going to be okay." 00:40:54.72\00:40:56.25 And He already said, 00:40:56.28\00:40:57.62 "Loretta, you're going to be okay." 00:40:57.65\00:40:58.99 Now you're thinking, "Wow! What does this mean?" 00:40:59.02\00:41:00.36 So this is the time in the story... 00:41:00.39\00:41:01.72 And now they come and say, "Chronic and wheelchair." 00:41:01.76\00:41:03.49 Now they're saying chronic and wheelchair forever. 00:41:03.53\00:41:06.83 So if you know anything about the way that insurance 00:41:06.86\00:41:10.10 and medical things work, 00:41:10.13\00:41:12.20 you know that getting a wheelchair 00:41:12.23\00:41:15.10 is not like getting a car. 00:41:15.14\00:41:16.47 You get a car, and you go, 00:41:16.50\00:41:17.84 and you say, "I want everything." 00:41:17.87\00:41:19.21 Well, the wheelchair features, 00:41:19.24\00:41:21.54 you get the features depending upon what you need, 00:41:21.58\00:41:24.95 depending upon how bad off you are. 00:41:24.98\00:41:28.72 So one other thing 00:41:28.75\00:41:30.09 that happened is that they started bringing people 00:41:30.12\00:41:32.92 to my room and bringing pamphlets 00:41:32.95\00:41:34.36 to my room about getting my home set up 00:41:34.39\00:41:37.66 to be handicapped accessible. 00:41:37.69\00:41:39.69 About getting my car set up, so possibly I could drive it. 00:41:39.73\00:41:43.83 About this super-duper power wheelchair 00:41:43.87\00:41:48.70 that had every feature under the sun. 00:41:48.74\00:41:51.14 That thing raised up and down, so that if you go to a counter, 00:41:51.17\00:41:54.68 you know, you could raise it up or lower it down. 00:41:54.71\00:41:57.58 That thing swiveled at 360. Nice. 00:41:57.61\00:42:01.12 It had a joystick, you know, there's just a little joystick. 00:42:01.15\00:42:03.59 So you could control it with your finger. 00:42:03.62\00:42:04.95 So you could control it with your fingers. 00:42:04.99\00:42:06.32 It even flipped back so that the weight could be 00:42:06.35\00:42:09.92 on your back instead of on your bottom, 00:42:09.96\00:42:12.19 so that you wouldn't get sores. 00:42:12.23\00:42:13.66 I mean, it had all... 00:42:13.70\00:42:15.03 This is a state-of-the-art wheelchair. 00:42:15.06\00:42:16.40 This is a state-of-the-art... 00:42:16.43\00:42:17.77 It had all terrain wheels 00:42:17.80\00:42:19.70 so that you didn't just have to have a smooth surface, 00:42:19.73\00:42:21.07 you could... 00:42:21.10\00:42:22.44 Go through the yard. 00:42:22.47\00:42:23.81 You could go through the yard and, 00:42:23.84\00:42:25.17 you know, go on the beach and... 00:42:25.21\00:42:26.54 But you're thinking this is serious. 00:42:26.57\00:42:27.91 I'm thinking, "This is serious." 00:42:27.94\00:42:29.28 And let's not forget, it came in 18 colors. 00:42:29.31\00:42:33.78 I just want to jump in a moment here 00:42:33.82\00:42:35.42 because I'm looking at our time, 00:42:35.45\00:42:36.79 and if we don't accelerate the story, 00:42:36.82\00:42:38.49 we're not going to get to the end of it too. 00:42:38.52\00:42:39.85 Okay, let's get to the due part. 00:42:39.89\00:42:41.22 Yeah, absolutely. So let's... 00:42:41.26\00:42:42.59 I think we have a video of you doing arm exercises. 00:42:42.62\00:42:47.23 Is this around that time? Can we look at that video? 00:42:47.26\00:42:49.96 No, we can skip that video and get to the good part. 00:42:50.00\00:42:53.00 Okay, let's go to the good part. 00:42:53.03\00:42:54.74 Okay, so I'm struggling now, 00:42:54.77\00:42:58.94 do I let them measure me for the wheelchair, or do I... 00:42:58.97\00:43:03.24 I'm still trying to talk faith and walk faith. 00:43:03.28\00:43:05.61 But I decided to let them measure me 00:43:05.65\00:43:07.15 for the wheelchair. 00:43:07.18\00:43:08.52 One of the worst days 00:43:08.55\00:43:09.88 of my entire life in the hospital. 00:43:09.92\00:43:11.75 They measure me for the wheelchair. 00:43:11.79\00:43:13.19 I'm not given to drama, but honestly, if I could have, 00:43:13.22\00:43:15.86 I would have jumped up and ran out of the room. 00:43:15.89\00:43:18.39 Couldn't wipe my tears, couldn't jump, couldn't run, 00:43:18.43\00:43:20.76 so I sat there. 00:43:20.80\00:43:22.30 I told the wheelchair rep, this is all great. 00:43:22.33\00:43:24.37 I'm really happy, you're happy about this. 00:43:24.40\00:43:26.74 I don't care that it comes in 18 colors. 00:43:26.77\00:43:28.54 At the end of the day, it's a wheelchair. 00:43:28.57\00:43:30.11 Yeah. 00:43:30.14\00:43:31.47 Right? Absolutely. 00:43:31.51\00:43:32.84 Now the treatments are working, I'm getting stronger. 00:43:32.87\00:43:36.54 I'm not strong enough to be at home... 00:43:36.58\00:43:38.75 Okay. 00:43:38.78\00:43:40.12 I'm not sick enough to be in the hospital. 00:43:40.15\00:43:41.62 So where'd they put you? 00:43:41.65\00:43:42.98 Quiz question, where do you go then? 00:43:43.02\00:43:44.39 Nursing home. You go to the nursing home. 00:43:44.42\00:43:46.19 That's where you went? Cals 40 something. 00:43:46.22\00:43:49.22 Remember, runner, mission trips, 00:43:49.26\00:43:51.73 so here I land now in a nursing home. 00:43:51.76\00:43:55.70 And so, now I want to go back to your question. 00:43:55.73\00:43:59.20 Now I want to go back to your question 00:43:59.23\00:44:00.57 about what was I thinking? 00:44:00.60\00:44:01.94 Yup, absolutely. Yeah. 00:44:01.97\00:44:03.30 What was happening in my head? Yes. 00:44:03.34\00:44:04.67 And they're still trying to convince me 00:44:04.71\00:44:07.84 that I'm going to be in this wheelchair. 00:44:07.88\00:44:10.65 Everybody knows 00:44:10.68\00:44:12.01 that you don't get the best physical therapy 00:44:12.05\00:44:13.38 in a nursing home, right? 00:44:13.42\00:44:14.75 That's correct. 00:44:14.78\00:44:16.55 And so, now I'm really struggling like, 00:44:16.58\00:44:19.35 I want them to still treat me like I want to learn 00:44:19.39\00:44:21.29 how to walk, I want them to give it all to me. 00:44:21.32\00:44:23.86 People are saying, "Go into physical therapy gym, 00:44:23.89\00:44:26.23 no matter what and just keep working." 00:44:26.26\00:44:29.06 But somebody forgot to tell Mary, 00:44:29.10\00:44:31.70 the physical therapist there, 00:44:31.73\00:44:33.30 that she wasn't supposed 00:44:33.34\00:44:34.67 to give me good physical therapy. 00:44:34.70\00:44:36.54 Somebody forgot to tell her that she was just supposed 00:44:36.57\00:44:39.67 to be just kind of biding my time. 00:44:39.71\00:44:42.44 So Mary said, "You want to walk, let's do it. 00:44:42.48\00:44:45.25 I know where you came from, 00:44:45.28\00:44:46.61 I know they have all this equipment." 00:44:46.65\00:44:47.98 That's great. Oh, this is you. 00:44:48.02\00:44:50.19 This is it right here. 00:44:50.22\00:44:51.62 And Mary said... 00:44:51.65\00:44:52.99 There was so much that happened before this. 00:44:53.02\00:44:54.36 You're trying to get out of the wheelchair. 00:44:54.39\00:44:55.72 Mary knocked me around on my knees, 00:44:55.76\00:44:57.39 Mary put me on my knees, 00:44:57.43\00:44:58.76 and said, "You have to learn to crawl before you walk." 00:44:58.79\00:45:01.13 But eventually, we get to this point. 00:45:01.16\00:45:05.23 Wow! So this is a big day? 00:45:05.27\00:45:06.74 This is a huge day. 00:45:06.77\00:45:09.27 Same time. This is a huge day. 00:45:09.30\00:45:11.81 So you're working all you can and praying all you can. 00:45:11.84\00:45:15.08 Let me tell you something. 00:45:15.11\00:45:16.88 You have to work like 00:45:16.91\00:45:19.21 there is no God and pray like there is no you. 00:45:19.25\00:45:22.65 That's good. Absolutely. 00:45:22.68\00:45:25.49 'Cause you had to really work at that physical therapy. 00:45:25.52\00:45:27.49 They're all the way through my arms. 00:45:27.52\00:45:28.86 My legs aren't doing anything. 00:45:28.89\00:45:30.36 Yeah, yeah. Wow. 00:45:30.39\00:45:32.03 My legs aren't doing anything. Wow. 00:45:32.06\00:45:33.40 You were a runner, what, a year before that? 00:45:33.43\00:45:35.53 Yeah. Yeah. 00:45:35.56\00:45:36.90 Yeah. Yeah. 00:45:36.93\00:45:38.27 And we get to this. 00:45:38.30\00:45:39.63 So you're obviously not in a wheelchair. 00:45:39.67\00:45:41.80 Now we're watching you here in physical therapy, you're not... 00:45:41.84\00:45:44.01 So something has happened, and I think that's what you... 00:45:44.04\00:45:45.77 And the pastor came 00:45:45.81\00:45:47.14 and prayed for you, is that right? 00:45:47.18\00:45:48.51 Let's jump ahead to that. Yeah, let's go to that. 00:45:48.54\00:45:50.18 Okay. 00:45:50.21\00:45:51.78 This happens and... 00:45:51.81\00:45:56.52 I needed to know that I go home in a wheelchair. 00:45:56.55\00:46:00.82 Yeah. Okay, I go home in a chair. 00:46:00.86\00:46:03.99 There was a pastor named Pastor George Williams, 00:46:04.03\00:46:08.13 and my best friend would have him call me 00:46:08.16\00:46:11.23 ever so often and pray with me. 00:46:11.27\00:46:13.80 So he called while I was home. 00:46:13.84\00:46:15.24 I couldn't even go to my bed, I was in the office. 00:46:15.27\00:46:18.27 Yeah. 00:46:18.31\00:46:19.64 In the hospital room that was set up in my office. 00:46:19.67\00:46:23.55 And he called one day, and he prayed with me. 00:46:23.58\00:46:25.41 He said, "You should walk 00:46:25.45\00:46:26.78 around your house giving God praise." 00:46:26.82\00:46:28.15 And I said, "Well, if I could, I would." 00:46:28.18\00:46:30.69 Right. And he was... 00:46:30.72\00:46:32.05 This is important. He used to be... 00:46:32.09\00:46:33.52 He's an Adventist pastor, 00:46:33.56\00:46:34.89 but he used to not be an Adventist pastor, 00:46:34.92\00:46:36.62 and he said, "The thing about us 00:46:36.66\00:46:37.99 is that we have the truth, 00:46:38.03\00:46:39.36 but we don't believe in the gift of feeling." 00:46:39.39\00:46:41.80 So he prays for me. 00:46:41.83\00:46:44.50 The next day I feel 00:46:44.53\00:46:45.87 this strange sensation in my body. 00:46:45.90\00:46:47.40 Oh, wow. 00:46:47.44\00:46:48.77 Not bad, not good, just different. 00:46:48.80\00:46:51.01 The next day, I wake up, 00:46:51.04\00:46:53.88 and I'm telling you as sure as I'm talking to you, 00:46:53.91\00:46:56.64 I know that I can walk. 00:46:56.68\00:46:58.98 Let's be clear, God did not speak to me, 00:46:59.01\00:47:00.72 God did not tell me, "Loretta, it's time to walk." 00:47:00.75\00:47:03.22 I just knew that I can walk. 00:47:03.25\00:47:05.09 And so, what do you do when you know you can walk? 00:47:05.12\00:47:07.52 You get out of bed. I threw my legs around. 00:47:07.56\00:47:10.39 I pushed my wheelchair, I pushed the walker, 00:47:10.43\00:47:12.49 I pushed all that stuff. 00:47:12.53\00:47:14.06 And there it is. Who's that? Oh, wow. 00:47:14.10\00:47:16.73 My house is in disarray 00:47:16.77\00:47:18.10 'cause we're getting ready to move. 00:47:18.13\00:47:19.47 That's no stress. How long is... 00:47:19.50\00:47:20.84 When was this video taken after the... 00:47:20.87\00:47:22.20 June. Wow. 00:47:22.24\00:47:23.57 Oh, June. 00:47:23.61\00:47:24.94 So you first went 00:47:24.97\00:47:26.31 in on October 26, and this is June. 00:47:26.34\00:47:27.68 October. 00:47:27.71\00:47:29.04 When did we see the video 00:47:29.08\00:47:30.41 just a little minute or two ago of you... 00:47:30.45\00:47:31.78 In the wheelchair? 00:47:31.81\00:47:33.15 What's the timeframe between the two? 00:47:33.18\00:47:34.52 Two months. Oh, wow. 00:47:34.55\00:47:35.88 And so I walked that circle. 00:47:35.92\00:47:37.85 And I was like, "That was cool, so I did it again." 00:47:37.89\00:47:40.89 Well, you haven't walked in a few months. 00:47:40.92\00:47:42.26 I haven't walked in forever. 00:47:42.29\00:47:44.89 And every day from that day, I could do a little bit more. 00:47:44.93\00:47:48.00 You got stronger. I got stronger and stronger. 00:47:48.03\00:47:52.00 I was able to drive a month after that. 00:47:52.03\00:47:55.27 I was able to go to Walmart and use the little cart, 00:47:55.30\00:47:57.87 then go to Walmart and walk, 00:47:57.91\00:47:59.91 then carry one bag of groceries, 00:47:59.94\00:48:01.74 then carry two bags of groceries. 00:48:01.78\00:48:04.08 Every day, God just did a little more, 00:48:04.11\00:48:06.28 and a little more, and a little more. 00:48:06.31\00:48:08.32 That pastor called and he prayed and literally... 00:48:08.35\00:48:12.65 God performed a miracle. The rest is history. 00:48:12.69\00:48:15.66 It was an absolute miracle. 00:48:15.69\00:48:17.03 I walked into my physical therapy place, and they cried. 00:48:17.06\00:48:19.59 I'm sure. 00:48:19.63\00:48:20.96 The social worker there told me, 00:48:21.00\00:48:22.33 "I couldn't even go see you the last day." 00:48:22.36\00:48:23.70 She said, "I was hiding on purpose." 00:48:23.73\00:48:25.07 She said, "I know you came to my office." 00:48:25.10\00:48:26.43 She said, "I couldn't see you go 00:48:26.47\00:48:28.64 to the nursing home. 00:48:28.67\00:48:30.04 So I just hid in my office." Literally they cried. 00:48:30.07\00:48:33.74 Literally. 00:48:33.78\00:48:35.11 So tell me, Loretta, what if someone... 00:48:35.14\00:48:37.65 This is a huge miracle. It is. 00:48:37.68\00:48:39.21 But what if someone says, 00:48:39.25\00:48:41.08 "I prayed for healing and someone prayed for me, 00:48:41.12\00:48:43.62 and I'm still struggling with my health," 00:48:43.65\00:48:45.79 what do we do with that? 00:48:45.82\00:48:48.46 What I learned from this experience 00:48:48.49\00:48:50.23 is that God is trustworthy. 00:48:50.26\00:48:51.79 That's good. 00:48:51.83\00:48:53.29 And I am so blessed 00:48:53.33\00:48:56.06 that my story ended as it continues, 00:48:56.10\00:48:59.33 the way that it does, but I'm not perfect either. 00:48:59.37\00:49:02.37 I tell people I'm probably about 85% or so, 00:49:02.40\00:49:05.41 but I'm really in a good place. 00:49:05.44\00:49:08.61 But God is absolutely trustworthy. 00:49:08.64\00:49:10.61 I'm going to not look at you and look here. 00:49:10.65\00:49:12.58 God is absolutely, positively trustworthy, 00:49:12.61\00:49:16.12 and whether He heals us now or whether He enables us, 00:49:16.15\00:49:19.69 allows us, causes us, whatever you want to call it, 00:49:19.72\00:49:22.52 to stay in that thing, 00:49:22.56\00:49:24.73 He is a God that is to be trusted. 00:49:24.76\00:49:27.13 And in the end, He will do what is best, 00:49:27.16\00:49:30.93 not only for our earthly good, 00:49:30.97\00:49:33.13 but for our heavenly and eternal good. 00:49:33.17\00:49:35.74 Amen. Amen. Thank you. 00:49:35.77\00:49:39.04 So we want to fast forward, you did a marathon again. 00:49:39.07\00:49:43.85 Tell us about that? October 26. 00:49:58.06\00:49:59.46 October 26, 00:49:59.49\00:50:01.06 I did a full 00:50:01.10\00:50:03.33 26.2 mile-marathon. 00:50:03.37\00:50:07.54 That's at the 26-mile mark. 00:50:07.57\00:50:10.17 I want to say I could not have done 00:50:10.21\00:50:11.54 that without my husband. 00:50:11.57\00:50:12.91 That marathon has a time limit, 00:50:12.94\00:50:14.78 and he came on the course and said, 00:50:14.81\00:50:16.31 "You're not going to finish, come on." 00:50:16.34\00:50:19.05 And he basically, probably did a half marathon 00:50:19.08\00:50:21.42 with me to make sure that I finished it, 00:50:21.45\00:50:23.45 which is what he did the whole time. 00:50:23.49\00:50:25.32 He pushed, I'm surprised he still had a job. 00:50:25.35\00:50:27.66 He worked, he set up his office in my hospital room. 00:50:27.69\00:50:33.53 Back to another question, how did I make it? 00:50:33.56\00:50:36.13 Show the picture of my family now. 00:50:36.16\00:50:37.50 Oh, yes.
