I want to spend my life 00:00:01.36\00:00:07.60 Mending broken people 00:00:07.64\00:00:12.41 I want to spend my life 00:00:12.44\00:00:18.55 Removing pain 00:00:18.58\00:00:23.69 Lord, let my words 00:00:23.72\00:00:29.86 Heal a heart that hurts 00:00:29.89\00:00:34.53 I want to spend my life 00:00:34.56\00:00:40.20 Mending broken people 00:00:40.24\00:00:45.61 I want to spend my life 00:00:45.64\00:00:51.15 Mending broken people. 00:00:51.18\00:00:54.48 Hello, and welcome to 3ABN Today. 00:01:09.46\00:01:12.10 We're so glad that you've tuned in 00:01:12.13\00:01:14.14 and just want to take this opportunity 00:01:14.17\00:01:16.30 on behalf of all of us who are at 3ABN 00:01:16.34\00:01:19.07 to thank you for your prayers and your financial support 00:01:19.11\00:01:22.88 of this ministry. 00:01:22.91\00:01:24.25 As we always say 00:01:24.28\00:01:25.61 and don't think we're just saying this to be tried, 00:01:25.65\00:01:28.82 we couldn't do this without you 00:01:28.85\00:01:30.59 and we're so thankful 00:01:30.62\00:01:32.39 that we particularly want to thank all of our blessings 00:01:32.42\00:01:35.89 on the Go Team members. 00:01:35.92\00:01:38.09 I wanted to share a scripture with you 00:01:38.13\00:01:40.50 and before I introduce our topic, 00:01:40.53\00:01:42.36 and you will see why 00:01:42.40\00:01:44.87 as soon as we start interviewing our special guest. 00:01:44.90\00:01:50.71 It's easy to see when we look around 00:01:50.74\00:01:53.21 that end times are here 00:01:53.24\00:01:55.91 and it's not just the church that's saying this, 00:01:55.94\00:01:58.18 it's not just based on Bible prophecy. 00:01:58.21\00:02:01.12 I mean that's what I base mine on, 00:02:01.15\00:02:03.42 but we see the scientists, 00:02:03.45\00:02:06.29 and the people, the scholars, 00:02:06.32\00:02:08.29 and the academicians of this world 00:02:08.32\00:02:10.39 saying earth cannot be sustained. 00:02:10.43\00:02:13.46 I mean, we're out of time, folks. 00:02:13.50\00:02:16.36 But when we look at the signs of the time 00:02:16.40\00:02:18.83 and we think of everything that Jesus said 00:02:18.87\00:02:21.50 about wars, and rumors of wars, and earthquakes, and famines, 00:02:21.54\00:02:25.54 and droughts, 00:02:25.57\00:02:27.04 the thing that is the most impressive sign to me 00:02:27.08\00:02:31.11 is Matthew 24:14. 00:02:31.15\00:02:33.62 And He says, 00:02:33.65\00:02:34.98 "This gospel of the kingdom 00:02:35.02\00:02:37.69 will be preached in the world as a witness to all nations, 00:02:37.72\00:02:42.36 and then the end will come." 00:02:42.39\00:02:46.59 It is this generation 00:02:46.63\00:02:50.50 that now has the ability to get the gospel 00:02:50.53\00:02:54.10 to all of the nations, 00:02:54.14\00:02:56.40 including nations that are close, 00:02:56.44\00:02:58.37 like the Islamic nations and China. 00:02:58.41\00:03:01.84 This is something that is so important for us 00:03:01.88\00:03:05.88 as people to recognize that the end is near 00:03:05.91\00:03:10.39 but we want to do our part 00:03:10.42\00:03:13.62 in helping usher in the second coming 00:03:13.66\00:03:18.33 of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. 00:03:18.36\00:03:20.40 And our special guest today is doing just that. 00:03:20.43\00:03:24.10 Let me introduce you to Jeremy Everhart, 00:03:24.13\00:03:27.80 who is the principal 00:03:27.84\00:03:29.44 of the Taiwan Adventist International School. 00:03:29.47\00:03:34.04 Jeremy, thank you for coming all the way from Taiwan. 00:03:34.08\00:03:37.35 I appreciate it. 00:09:33.44\00:09:35.37 When you're growing up in a church, 00:09:35.40\00:09:36.94 you see your family members, you see your parents, 00:09:36.97\00:09:40.34 doing the church things 00:09:40.38\00:09:41.88 and you want to be a part of that. 00:09:41.91\00:09:43.81 But I didn't really have 00:09:43.85\00:09:45.71 maybe the relationship that I thought I should have. 00:09:45.75\00:09:49.65 When I was in the academy, Houston Academy, 00:09:49.68\00:09:51.85 we were on a class trip to Dominican Republic 00:09:51.89\00:09:54.59 as a mission trip and we helped build a church there, 00:09:54.62\00:09:56.83 and it was at that point that I could really feel 00:09:56.86\00:09:59.13 that there's something more to life 00:09:59.16\00:10:01.03 than the things that I saw every day. 00:10:01.06\00:10:02.56 Amen. 00:10:02.60\00:10:03.93 And the world vision there kind of really settled into me. 00:10:03.97\00:10:07.40 Praise God. So how did you end up in Taiwan? 00:10:07.44\00:10:11.47 Graduated from Anderson University, 00:10:11.51\00:10:13.61 taught for two years in New York State, 00:10:13.64\00:10:15.98 but I just felt like I needed something more than that 00:10:16.01\00:10:18.88 and I got a call to go to Russia. 00:10:18.91\00:10:21.35 I was in Russia for a year, 00:10:21.38\00:10:23.39 and then I got a call to go to Taiwan 00:10:23.42\00:10:25.22 and I thought, oh, I can continue on, 00:10:25.25\00:10:27.12 just keep going from country to country 00:10:27.16\00:10:28.79 and then that was back 2004, I've been in Taiwan ever since. 00:10:28.82\00:10:32.09 Wonderful, and I know that there in Taiwan 00:10:32.13\00:10:35.43 you met your beautiful wife. Absolutely. 00:10:35.46\00:10:37.20 And you have a five year old son. 00:10:37.23\00:10:39.27 Get this, his five year old son Evan 00:10:39.30\00:10:42.24 speaks both English and Mandarin 00:10:42.27\00:10:45.51 and when mama prays in Mandarin, 00:10:45.54\00:10:48.04 he is translating line by line for daddy in English. 00:10:48.08\00:10:52.08 And I think that's amazing. 00:10:52.11\00:10:54.48 He is just a real... 00:10:54.52\00:10:57.02 He's obviously a very bright young man. 00:10:57.05\00:10:58.89 He is. Yeah, and your joy. 00:10:58.92\00:11:01.16 So tell us about the Taiwan Adventist School, 00:11:01.19\00:11:06.70 you were on the campus of the university there? 00:11:06.73\00:11:10.63 Yes, we have Taiwan Adventist College, 00:11:10.67\00:11:12.47 it's been there for many years. 00:11:12.50\00:11:15.00 And they tried to be just, 00:11:15.04\00:11:16.37 you know, similar to when we think of union 00:11:16.40\00:11:18.37 or other Seventh-day Adventist Colleges. 00:11:18.41\00:11:21.44 But the government had a lot of restrictions 00:11:21.48\00:11:23.55 of what you could do 00:11:23.58\00:11:24.91 and so they eventually gave up accreditation. 00:11:24.95\00:11:27.08 Okay. 00:11:27.12\00:11:28.45 And then all they could really do 00:11:28.48\00:11:31.22 was do a theological seminary. 00:11:31.25\00:11:34.06 So now the college is a theological seminary 00:11:34.09\00:11:37.89 and it's in the middle of Taiwan 00:11:37.93\00:11:39.49 and they were having difficulties 00:11:39.53\00:11:42.53 due to the constraints that the government provided. 00:11:42.56\00:11:46.13 So then they built our school, 00:11:46.17\00:11:48.80 Taiwan Adventist International School, 00:11:48.84\00:11:50.71 because they needed to have funds to help do the work 00:11:50.74\00:11:53.88 that the college is already doing. 00:11:53.91\00:11:55.34 All right, so what is the population of the school 00:11:55.38\00:12:00.15 of which you are the principal, 00:12:00.18\00:12:01.88 The Taiwan International School? 00:12:01.92\00:12:03.75 Yes. 00:12:03.79\00:12:05.12 We are now hovering mostly around 75 to 80 students. 00:12:05.15\00:12:08.86 And this is the upper grades? 00:12:08.89\00:12:11.49 We do grades 7 to 12. 00:12:11.53\00:12:13.03 Seven to twelve. 00:12:13.06\00:12:14.40 Now, what is the population of your school? 00:12:14.43\00:12:19.33 Can you give us a break down on the demographics? 00:12:19.37\00:12:22.00 So our school caters mostly to the more affluent families. 00:12:22.04\00:12:27.54 And so they come in from all over Taiwan, 00:12:27.58\00:12:30.81 we're a boarding school. 00:12:30.85\00:12:32.31 Students stay on our campus 00:12:32.35\00:12:34.42 and we provide weekend programming 00:12:34.45\00:12:36.15 and spiritual programming for them. 00:12:36.18\00:12:38.22 And majority of them are not Christian, 00:12:38.25\00:12:40.86 they come to our school 00:12:40.89\00:12:42.29 to go to universities in the United States and Canada 00:12:42.32\00:12:45.56 or other places around the world, 00:12:45.59\00:12:47.50 and they come to our school 00:12:47.53\00:12:48.90 because we are associated 00:12:48.93\00:12:50.27 with the Griggs International Academy. 00:12:50.30\00:12:52.47 So when they finish our program, 00:12:52.50\00:12:54.10 then they have that diploma through Griggs. 00:12:54.14\00:12:56.97 And then most of them then are, 00:12:57.01\00:12:58.51 obviously their second language is English. 00:12:58.54\00:13:00.78 That's right, absolutely. 00:13:00.81\00:13:02.14 Okay. And tell us about... 00:13:02.18\00:13:07.28 Now, how many, what percentage did you say were Christian? 00:13:07.32\00:13:10.29 So our whole group, 00:13:10.32\00:13:11.79 we have roughly 12 to 15% that are Christian. 00:13:11.82\00:13:15.76 And about 6 to 8% who are SDA. 00:13:15.79\00:13:18.59 And so Seventh-day Adventist Christians. 00:13:18.63\00:13:19.96 Seventh-day Adventist, yes, thank you. 00:13:20.00\00:13:21.33 Uh-huh, okay. 00:13:21.36\00:13:22.70 And that gives you then a great opportunity 00:13:22.73\00:13:28.70 for evangelism right within your school? 00:13:28.74\00:13:31.64 Absolutely. 00:13:31.67\00:13:33.01 Ours teachers are missionaries. 00:13:33.04\00:13:34.74 When they come to work here, 00:13:34.78\00:13:36.34 they come because they want to work with our students 00:13:36.38\00:13:38.75 and they have a heart to work with them 00:13:38.78\00:13:41.48 in which our students don't necessarily come 00:13:41.52\00:13:44.15 because we are Christian. 00:13:44.19\00:13:46.35 They are just looking at what we can provide for them 00:13:46.39\00:13:48.62 for their future. 00:13:48.66\00:13:50.19 And so it's been a challenge and also a blessing 00:13:50.23\00:13:53.96 to work through God 00:13:54.00\00:13:55.33 in which to find ways to show who God is 00:13:55.36\00:13:57.80 and what love He has for them. 00:13:57.83\00:13:59.73 Amen. 00:13:59.77\00:14:01.10 Now you have your regular curriculum 00:14:01.14\00:14:04.74 throughout the school week 00:14:04.77\00:14:06.11 but then you said you had weekend programs. 00:14:06.14\00:14:08.41 Tell us about that. 00:14:08.44\00:14:09.78 So our students are addicted to their phones, 00:14:09.81\00:14:12.31 it's just a simple fact. 00:14:12.35\00:14:13.82 I think that's universal, isn't it? 00:14:13.85\00:14:15.58 And, you know, we see how much harm it does for them. 00:14:15.62\00:14:19.69 Yeah. 00:14:19.72\00:14:21.06 And we want to provide holistic programming 00:14:21.09\00:14:24.03 that doesn't just meet their academic needs, 00:14:24.06\00:14:27.33 but their spiritual and their health 00:14:27.36\00:14:29.63 and so we have thing for Friday night. 00:14:29.66\00:14:32.00 Our vespers program, 00:14:32.03\00:14:33.70 we do Sabbath morning program, 00:14:33.74\00:14:35.50 we do the church service for them. 00:14:35.54\00:14:37.77 And we have sundown vespers for them 00:14:37.81\00:14:39.67 just every single weekend. 00:14:39.71\00:14:41.51 Okay, now you have affluent students 00:14:41.54\00:14:46.28 coming from a non-Christian background, 00:14:46.31\00:14:48.72 so how do you break them 00:14:48.75\00:14:51.82 of that selfish 00:14:51.85\00:14:54.52 and materialistic outlook on life? 00:14:54.56\00:14:58.56 Yeah, first we... 00:14:58.59\00:15:00.46 We're just kind of doing 00:15:00.50\00:15:01.83 the traditional international school thing. 00:15:01.86\00:15:03.67 Bringing them in, teaching them the best we can 00:15:03.70\00:15:06.37 and hoping that they can gain something from that. 00:15:06.40\00:15:09.87 But we made a fundamental change 00:15:09.90\00:15:11.97 in the last couple of years. 00:15:12.01\00:15:14.31 We did small groups as our vespers 00:15:14.34\00:15:18.51 in our Sabbath school program. 00:15:18.55\00:15:20.22 Instead of just having a group presentation for them, 00:15:20.25\00:15:22.75 we bring them into our homes, we cook food for them, 00:15:22.78\00:15:26.25 we eat together and we pray together 00:15:26.29\00:15:29.12 and we study God's word 00:15:29.16\00:15:30.83 for both our vespers 00:15:30.86\00:15:32.26 and for our Sabbath morning program. 00:15:32.29\00:15:34.53 It's one of the major changes we've done. 00:15:34.56\00:15:36.36 The other thing that we've done 00:15:36.40\00:15:37.73 that we think it's really important 00:15:37.77\00:15:39.10 is we instituted mission trip and community service trips 00:15:39.13\00:15:42.30 for our students. 00:15:42.34\00:15:43.67 As they're serving their community 00:15:43.71\00:15:45.31 and other countries, 00:15:45.34\00:15:47.01 they see the need throughout there 00:15:47.04\00:15:48.44 and the changes of themselves take place 00:15:48.48\00:15:50.85 due to simply the service they provide. 00:15:50.88\00:15:52.25 Amen. 00:15:52.28\00:15:53.62 I think you brought some pictures, 00:15:53.65\00:15:54.98 well, I know you did. Yes. 00:15:55.02\00:15:56.35 Let's look at some pictures and we'll see 00:15:56.38\00:15:57.72 some of the community service projects 00:15:57.75\00:15:59.09 that you are doing. 00:15:59.12\00:16:00.49 Okay, so there's first one. 00:16:00.52\00:16:03.76 So our students go on Thanksgiving 00:16:03.79\00:16:07.56 and do their trip. 00:16:07.60\00:16:09.36 Take the vacation time, they pay for it 00:16:09.40\00:16:12.23 and they went here 00:16:12.27\00:16:13.60 and they have been doing vacation Bible schools 00:16:13.64\00:16:16.30 on the east coast of Taiwan. 00:16:16.34\00:16:17.84 Wonderful, wonderful. 00:16:17.87\00:16:19.87 And then the next picture? 00:16:19.91\00:16:24.28 This house has an old gentleman that was living here. 00:16:24.31\00:16:27.08 You might see him there on the right side. 00:16:27.12\00:16:29.38 He was, he had this big house 00:16:29.42\00:16:31.05 but the condition of the house was so bad, 00:16:31.09\00:16:33.05 he was living literally in a 8/8 sector. 00:16:33.09\00:16:35.82 Okay. 00:16:35.86\00:16:37.19 And so through that, our students went there 00:16:37.23\00:16:39.79 and did a lot of renovations, and scraping, and painting, 00:16:39.83\00:16:43.16 and they made his house livable again. 00:16:43.20\00:16:45.33 Praise God, 00:16:45.37\00:16:46.70 so you're teaching them in a very practical way. 00:16:46.74\00:16:49.44 Absolutely. Now what are they doing here? 00:16:49.47\00:16:51.77 This is a program 00:16:51.81\00:16:53.14 we've been doing since year one. 00:16:53.17\00:16:54.94 And this is at a nursing home at a town nearby 00:16:54.98\00:16:58.35 and these retirees and other individuals 00:16:58.38\00:17:02.48 are kind of away from society. 00:17:02.52\00:17:04.42 They are stuck here in this building, 00:17:04.45\00:17:06.72 nothing to do but watch TV. 00:17:06.76\00:17:08.69 And so we go there every year 00:17:08.72\00:17:10.39 and we write programming where our students intermix 00:17:10.43\00:17:13.19 and they do activities together with the patients. 00:17:13.23\00:17:16.26 Wonderful. 00:17:16.30\00:17:18.80 We do vacation Bible schools 00:17:18.83\00:17:20.34 in all of our mission and community service trips, 00:17:20.37\00:17:22.54 and so our kids are not just teaching English 00:17:22.57\00:17:25.14 but they are teaching the stories of the Bible 00:17:25.17\00:17:28.04 to these students 00:17:28.08\00:17:29.41 at the elementary schools that we go. 00:17:29.44\00:17:31.11 So certainly this must be reaching some hearts. 00:17:31.15\00:17:33.48 Yes, that's right. 00:17:33.52\00:17:35.28 Okay, and then I think we had a few more pictures. 00:17:35.32\00:17:37.22 Yes. 00:17:37.25\00:17:38.59 This is a picture of our small group 00:17:41.36\00:17:43.46 and so each teacher will have 00:17:43.49\00:17:46.16 roughly between 6 to 12 students 00:17:46.19\00:17:48.36 that they have every weekend 00:17:48.40\00:17:50.47 both for the vespers and the Sabbath school, 00:17:50.50\00:17:53.34 and they pray, and they study the Word together, 00:17:53.37\00:17:55.90 and they develop that relationship 00:17:55.94\00:17:57.27 to show how God's love works in their own lives, 00:17:57.31\00:18:00.64 our students can work from that. 00:18:00.68\00:18:02.91 Amen. Now how many... 00:18:02.94\00:18:05.85 Oh, this is your week of prayer, isn't it? 00:18:05.88\00:18:08.15 We had two week of prayers every year 00:18:08.18\00:18:10.05 and we invite special guests, 00:18:10.09\00:18:12.32 and when we pray and we sing together, 00:18:12.35\00:18:15.02 and they share God's word 00:18:15.06\00:18:16.83 and a lot of students' lives have been changed. 00:18:16.86\00:18:20.70 Yes. 00:18:20.73\00:18:22.20 I remember, it was the week of prayer last year 00:18:22.23\00:18:24.27 and we made a call, 00:18:24.30\00:18:25.67 "Who would be interested in having Bible studies." 00:18:25.70\00:18:27.67 Yes. 00:18:27.70\00:18:29.04 I think roughly 30 students stood up saying, 00:18:29.07\00:18:31.64 "We just want to study and see who God is." 00:18:31.67\00:18:34.04 Praise God. Now, before we go to the next picture, 00:18:34.08\00:18:38.31 what are the religions of Taiwan? 00:18:38.35\00:18:43.05 What is it, is it mostly Buddhists? 00:18:43.08\00:18:45.75 Yes, primarily Buddhists, 00:18:45.79\00:18:47.46 and we also have Taoists, 00:18:47.49\00:18:48.96 and we have local religions, 00:18:48.99\00:18:51.33 they focus on heroes of the past. 00:18:51.36\00:18:54.33 And then there's a mixtures thereof. 00:18:54.36\00:18:56.16 All right, so for some of them 00:18:56.20\00:18:57.53 this is the first time they've ever heard the gospel. 00:18:57.57\00:19:00.07 Yeah, we had a chaplain who came in this last year 00:19:00.10\00:19:03.00 and he did survey of our students, 00:19:03.04\00:19:04.74 "Where did you hear about Jesus?" 00:19:04.77\00:19:06.68 And a large percent of them put 00:19:06.71\00:19:08.31 well, when they came to Taiwan Adventist School, 00:19:08.34\00:19:11.08 that's when they first learned about Jesus. 00:19:11.11\00:19:13.35 So how do their parents feel 00:19:13.38\00:19:15.88 as their lives are being touched 00:19:15.92\00:19:17.99 by the good news of the gospel 00:19:18.02\00:19:20.02 and they are wanting to join the church. 00:19:20.06\00:19:21.96 How do their parents feel about this? 00:19:21.99\00:19:23.76 Some are supportive, 00:19:23.79\00:19:25.33 because they see the positive influence 00:19:25.36\00:19:26.86 on their lives, 00:19:26.90\00:19:28.23 they have told us, "I've seen my child change. 00:19:28.26\00:19:30.87 He struggled in school, 00:19:30.90\00:19:32.23 he had fights with his classmates, 00:19:32.27\00:19:33.77 he couldn't work with the teacher 00:19:33.80\00:19:35.20 and he's come here 00:19:35.24\00:19:36.57 and I've seen this change and I'm happy for that." 00:19:36.60\00:19:38.91 Others have said, "Sorry. 00:19:38.94\00:19:40.88 I know, my son is asking to be baptized 00:19:40.91\00:19:42.78 but let's not premise." 00:19:42.81\00:19:44.61 So but you know the good thing is that 00:19:44.65\00:19:47.05 once that seed is planted... 00:19:47.08\00:19:48.65 Right. 00:19:48.68\00:19:50.29 Mama and papa can't keep them from ever, forever. 00:19:50.32\00:19:52.35 For eternity. 00:19:52.39\00:19:53.72 Yeah, 'cause it if your heart's been given to the Lord, 00:19:53.76\00:19:58.49 you can be converted before your baptism 00:19:58.53\00:20:00.63 that you're hoping. That's right. 00:20:00.66\00:20:02.00 So how many do you usually graduate each year, 00:20:02.03\00:20:05.93 what is your graduating class? 00:20:05.97\00:20:07.64 It varies, 00:20:07.67\00:20:09.00 this year, we'll have roughly 12 students who are graduating. 00:20:09.04\00:20:11.91 Okay. And then... 00:20:11.94\00:20:13.51 And this is the class that graduated this last year. 00:20:13.54\00:20:16.08 All right. 00:20:16.11\00:20:17.45 And we're so excited to see them come back 00:20:17.48\00:20:19.35 and visit us 00:20:19.38\00:20:20.72 and we asked them, "What do you see a difference, 00:20:20.75\00:20:22.65 now that you are out in the world, 00:20:22.68\00:20:24.02 what do you see the difference between the teachers you've had 00:20:24.05\00:20:26.09 in the universities, 00:20:26.12\00:20:27.62 and the teachers you've had here at TAS?" 00:20:27.66\00:20:30.46 And they said, "You know what, 00:20:30.49\00:20:31.83 those teachers out in the world just don't care for us, 00:20:31.86\00:20:33.70 they don't mentor us, 00:20:33.73\00:20:35.06 they don't really worry about how we're doing," 00:20:35.10\00:20:37.80 as they've experienced at our school. 00:20:37.83\00:20:39.90 So that really took heart for a lot of our teachers 00:20:39.93\00:20:42.07 and encouraged the work that we're doing. 00:20:42.10\00:20:44.17 Amen, and it's such an exciting work 00:20:44.21\00:20:46.47 because it's not just academic 00:20:46.51\00:20:48.21 but you are reaching them on a spiritual level. 00:20:48.24\00:20:51.61 And then teaching them to have a world view 00:20:51.65\00:20:56.05 that is not just so boxed in a selfish way 00:20:56.08\00:21:00.06 that you're just focusing on self. 00:21:00.09\00:21:02.69 What I'd like to do, it's such a beautiful campus. 00:21:02.72\00:21:05.29 We're gonna show just a couple of clips 00:21:05.33\00:21:07.96 from some videos you brought 00:21:08.00\00:21:09.73 and then we'll continue on to the big project. 00:21:09.76\00:21:12.33 Okay. 00:21:12.37\00:21:13.70 But here's some of the video. 00:21:13.74\00:21:17.01 Now what's going on here? 00:21:17.04\00:21:18.57 So this is our Christmas program 00:21:18.61\00:21:21.01 and it's not your traditional Christmas program. 00:21:21.04\00:21:22.98 Obviously. 00:21:23.01\00:21:24.51 We present Jesus' total life, from birth to resurrection. 00:21:24.55\00:21:28.45 Okay. 00:21:28.48\00:21:29.82 Each grade level will develop their own skit, 00:21:29.85\00:21:33.92 their own dialogue, based solely on scripture. 00:21:33.96\00:21:37.23 Praise God. 00:21:37.26\00:21:38.59 And then we invite the community, the parents. 00:21:38.63\00:21:41.76 The purpose is not to have a Christmas celebration, 00:21:41.80\00:21:44.60 the purpose is telling the community 00:21:44.63\00:21:46.30 and the non-Christians 00:21:46.33\00:21:47.80 why we celebrate Jesus' birth 00:21:47.84\00:21:50.57 because they don't have that concept. 00:21:50.61\00:21:52.67 And the thing about it is 00:21:52.71\00:21:56.14 our students are mostly not Christian, 00:21:56.18\00:21:58.68 their English may be not so strong 00:21:58.71\00:22:01.58 so they have to repeat and repeat 00:22:01.62\00:22:03.79 these Bible inspired passages again and again 00:22:03.82\00:22:06.99 so they can speak them out at the presentation. 00:22:07.02\00:22:09.42 Give glory to God. 00:22:09.46\00:22:10.79 What does that do on their spiritual wellbeing 00:22:10.83\00:22:13.60 when they are being, you know, exposed to God's Word 00:22:13.63\00:22:16.50 over and over and over again 00:22:16.53\00:22:17.93 and the most important story that can be presented. 00:22:17.97\00:22:20.54 So do you get good attendance at these events? 00:22:20.57\00:22:23.17 We always worry about that, we send out the invitations 00:22:23.20\00:22:25.64 and we say, "Who's gonna come?" 00:22:25.67\00:22:28.11 And this last time I stood up, I give them a welcome, 00:22:28.14\00:22:30.88 it was okay. 00:22:30.91\00:22:32.48 I sat down at the end of it I want to thank them for coming 00:22:32.51\00:22:36.32 and the whole auditorium was filled 00:22:36.35\00:22:38.55 and we're floored by the attendance this year. 00:22:38.59\00:22:40.36 Praise God. 00:22:40.39\00:22:41.72 So you're saying that it's not just Adventists 00:22:41.76\00:22:43.46 that are rushing 00:22:43.49\00:22:44.83 in the last moment of these events. 00:22:44.86\00:22:47.13 Well, this is a very special way 00:22:47.16\00:22:50.50 of getting it into the children's hearts, 00:22:50.53\00:22:52.23 since they are the one's writing the script 00:22:52.27\00:22:53.84 from the Bible, 00:22:53.87\00:22:55.20 and as you said, 00:22:55.24\00:22:57.47 confessing this word over and over again. 00:22:57.51\00:22:59.64 That kind of gets it into their memory 00:22:59.67\00:23:02.21 so that's an exciting way. 00:23:02.24\00:23:04.18 Have you had, 00:23:04.21\00:23:05.55 what is the reaction of the parents 00:23:05.58\00:23:08.52 and the local people to this? 00:23:08.55\00:23:12.29 We find interesting is that 00:23:12.32\00:23:13.82 the parents will come and be supportive 00:23:13.86\00:23:15.69 because their child is presenting. 00:23:15.72\00:23:18.16 And because it's in English, 00:23:18.19\00:23:19.79 then they feel proud that their child can go up there 00:23:19.83\00:23:22.20 and speak that to everybody. 00:23:22.23\00:23:24.23 They might not totally understand the impact 00:23:24.27\00:23:26.67 what they're speaking on their lives 00:23:26.70\00:23:28.50 or how that might affect them as well. 00:23:28.54\00:23:30.74 Yes, yeah, okay. 00:23:30.77\00:23:32.11 And now you brought another clip, did you not? 00:23:32.14\00:23:34.11 Yes, and this is connecting 00:23:34.14\00:23:36.04 with our community service projects. 00:23:36.08\00:23:37.98 All right. Then we'll look at that now. 00:23:38.01\00:23:42.58 This is at the nursing home? 00:23:42.62\00:23:43.95 This is at the nursing home, yeah. 00:23:43.99\00:23:45.72 Ah, it's precious. 00:23:45.75\00:23:47.32 I bet the nursing home residents 00:23:47.36\00:23:50.59 are excited to see the young kids come. 00:23:50.63\00:23:53.53 Every year it's a struggle for our kids at first. 00:23:53.56\00:23:56.26 They don't know how to react, they don't know how to help, 00:23:56.30\00:23:58.67 they don't know how to serve their needs, 00:23:58.70\00:24:00.24 they're frightened of it. 00:24:00.27\00:24:02.04 But then once it get going, 00:24:02.07\00:24:03.81 then suddenly I've seen 00:24:03.84\00:24:05.31 students you might not think care too much, 00:24:05.34\00:24:09.64 they really want to help 00:24:09.68\00:24:11.21 and make the life of these patients 00:24:11.25\00:24:13.38 more comfortable. 00:24:13.42\00:24:14.75 Glory to God. 00:24:14.78\00:24:16.12 All right, so essentially at the... 00:24:16.15\00:24:19.35 or the Taiwan Adventist International School, 00:24:19.39\00:24:24.09 the concept it was developed so that, 00:24:24.13\00:24:27.60 you obviously, if you are reaching out to the affluent, 00:24:27.63\00:24:30.27 you are getting a certain fee that is paid 00:24:30.30\00:24:35.40 by these affluent people 00:24:35.44\00:24:36.77 and that is what is helping to support the college. 00:24:36.81\00:24:39.84 Tell us a little more about the Taiwan Adventist College? 00:24:39.87\00:24:43.28 It's more of a seminary now, tell us about their program? 00:24:43.31\00:24:48.52 Yeah, they used to be more 00:24:48.55\00:24:50.52 based on the Taiwanese population, 00:24:50.55\00:24:53.12 but then in more recent years they've been opened up 00:24:53.15\00:24:55.92 and they are accepting students from China 00:24:55.96\00:24:58.63 from our Seventh-day Adventist churches 00:24:58.66\00:25:00.36 that are speckled throughout that. 00:25:00.40\00:25:02.36 So the work that they are doing is not just working in Taiwan 00:25:02.40\00:25:05.83 but it's also over in East Asian countries 00:25:05.87\00:25:09.17 that where Chinese is the main language. 00:25:09.20\00:25:11.54 Okay, so we are going to... 00:25:11.57\00:25:14.28 We're restricted 00:25:14.31\00:25:16.04 as to how often we can mention that nations names, 00:25:16.08\00:25:18.88 so we will refer to it as unorganized territories, 00:25:18.91\00:25:23.85 and explain that terminology, unorganized territories? 00:25:23.89\00:25:28.19 So back 60 years ago, 00:25:28.22\00:25:30.26 some major political changes took place in China, 00:25:30.29\00:25:33.96 and at that point 00:25:34.00\00:25:35.66 the church can no longer be involved in the work 00:25:35.70\00:25:38.33 that's been done there. 00:25:38.37\00:25:40.14 So there are still churches there 00:25:40.17\00:25:43.51 but they have no organization. 00:25:43.54\00:25:45.07 Okay. 00:25:45.11\00:25:46.44 So we call that then the unorganized territories. 00:25:46.47\00:25:48.84 So these churches are 00:25:48.88\00:25:52.11 essentially teaching the doctrines 00:25:52.15\00:25:54.62 of the Seventh-day Adventist church 00:25:54.65\00:25:56.65 to the best of their abilities. Yes, right. 00:25:56.69\00:25:58.52 But, and we hear that it's really growing, 00:25:58.55\00:26:02.99 I mean they're not under a conference, 00:26:03.02\00:26:04.53 they're not under the umbrella of our church 00:26:04.56\00:26:07.73 because the churches aren't illegal 00:26:07.76\00:26:10.43 but the organization 00:26:10.47\00:26:11.80 of any major denominational church is. 00:26:11.83\00:26:15.30 Yes. 00:26:15.34\00:26:16.67 So we hear that they are growing 00:26:16.71\00:26:18.14 but they have a challenge, don't they, 00:26:18.17\00:26:20.01 because there's no one to train their pastors 00:26:20.04\00:26:22.91 and lay pastors. 00:26:22.94\00:26:24.28 Yeah, they have roughly 5,000 ministers. 00:26:24.31\00:26:27.48 And they have 5,000 volunteers, 00:26:27.52\00:26:29.72 now they're laymen who are working 00:26:29.75\00:26:31.09 for these churches. 00:26:31.12\00:26:32.45 Praise the Lord. 00:26:32.49\00:26:33.82 But 90% of them 00:26:33.86\00:26:35.19 have not received any formal training 00:26:35.22\00:26:37.23 regarding our church beliefs, our fundamentals, 00:26:37.26\00:26:40.46 and so they're just doing their absolutely best 00:26:40.50\00:26:43.53 but they don't have the knowledge or the wisdom 00:26:43.57\00:26:45.30 in which to do that. 00:26:45.33\00:26:46.67 So then the Taiwan Adventist College, 00:26:46.70\00:26:51.17 are you seeing people come in 00:26:51.21\00:26:53.24 from the unorganized territories, 00:26:53.27\00:26:55.94 the pastors and the lay ministers, 00:26:55.98\00:26:57.55 are they coming in to be trained? 00:26:57.58\00:26:59.61 We have now roughly 60% of the population 00:26:59.65\00:27:02.42 of the college... Yes. 00:27:02.45\00:27:04.55 Are not from Taiwan. Okay. 00:27:04.59\00:27:07.09 And so they are coming in 00:27:07.12\00:27:08.46 and they are taking the theological courses 00:27:08.49\00:27:10.13 to be trained 00:27:10.16\00:27:11.49 to only go back to the unorganized territories. 00:27:11.53\00:27:13.80 Wonderful, but these are people who can't afford to pay, 00:27:13.83\00:27:16.67 there it go, this is why you have your school 00:27:16.70\00:27:20.00 to help support this work, is that correct? 00:27:20.04\00:27:22.40 Yeah, I believe the colleges, you know, tuitioning, 00:27:22.44\00:27:24.61 if you think from perspective of the United States 00:27:24.64\00:27:27.01 is quite low. 00:27:27.04\00:27:28.38 But because they don't have the funds, 00:27:28.41\00:27:30.51 they pay maybe roughly 20% of their already low tuition. 00:27:30.55\00:27:34.88 Now it doesn't bode well for finances. 00:27:34.92\00:27:36.99 Yeah. 00:27:37.02\00:27:38.35 So what... 00:27:38.39\00:27:40.26 Just give us a little bit more of, 00:27:40.29\00:27:44.03 there's certainly 00:27:44.06\00:27:46.43 an evangelistic outreach program 00:27:46.46\00:27:50.77 that this college... 00:27:50.80\00:27:52.60 Tell us more about the purpose of the college? 00:27:52.63\00:27:56.14 So in 2017, 00:27:56.17\00:27:58.84 they made some serious decisions 00:27:58.87\00:28:01.41 about what the purpose, 00:28:01.44\00:28:03.11 what they're doing with their students 00:28:03.14\00:28:04.65 at the college. 00:28:04.68\00:28:06.01 What their mission is. Yes. 00:28:06.05\00:28:07.52 And so they decided that they are going to be answering 00:28:07.55\00:28:11.05 to the call of General Conference 00:28:11.09\00:28:12.99 of Seventh-day Adventist church 00:28:13.02\00:28:14.36 of doing total member involvement. 00:28:14.39\00:28:16.12 Wonderful. 00:28:16.16\00:28:17.49 And so they did a program for four months 00:28:17.53\00:28:20.96 where each student was extensively trained 00:28:21.00\00:28:24.50 to be able to preach God's word, 00:28:24.53\00:28:26.57 even students who are not going to be pastors, 00:28:26.60\00:28:29.00 even health students, 00:28:29.04\00:28:30.84 even the team of students who are a faculty member, 00:28:30.87\00:28:33.84 those who have not ever preached before, 00:28:33.88\00:28:36.81 they received training for four months. 00:28:36.85\00:28:39.41 Praise God. 00:28:39.45\00:28:40.78 And so then after the four months was over, 00:28:40.82\00:28:42.78 they went out 00:28:42.82\00:28:44.72 not just in Taiwan 00:28:44.75\00:28:46.09 but in the unorganized territories 00:28:46.12\00:28:47.82 and they put on 00:28:47.86\00:28:49.19 I think roughly 73 different evangelistic series. 00:28:49.22\00:28:52.13 Praise the Lord. 00:28:52.16\00:28:53.50 And they went out in teams and they're preaching, 00:28:53.53\00:28:57.43 health talks, 00:28:57.47\00:28:59.17 skits, all these sorts of things, 00:28:59.20\00:29:00.87 so many. 00:29:00.90\00:29:02.24 Amen, and what kind of results did they have? 00:29:02.27\00:29:04.97 That's the thing that's just really surprised me, 00:29:05.01\00:29:08.11 I've been in Asia for some time. 00:29:08.14\00:29:10.68 The church in unorganized territories 00:29:10.71\00:29:13.62 has kind of slowed down in their growth, 00:29:13.65\00:29:16.95 not as expanse as it used to be 00:29:16.99\00:29:21.49 and they had about 1,500 baptisms 00:29:21.52\00:29:25.33 just from the results of these programs. 00:29:25.36\00:29:26.93 Oh, boy, that will revitalize the church, 00:29:26.96\00:29:29.40 so there are, 00:29:29.43\00:29:30.83 even though it is an unorganized territories 00:29:30.87\00:29:33.30 where it's illegal to have, 00:29:33.34\00:29:38.54 "Established Denominational Ties", 00:29:38.57\00:29:43.04 these people, 00:29:43.08\00:29:45.38 when they came in and were baptized, 00:29:45.41\00:29:48.72 there are churches 00:29:48.75\00:29:50.59 that can disciple them to 00:29:50.62\00:29:53.66 so that is not just an emotional decision 00:29:53.69\00:29:56.19 but that they're really gonna be anchored in their decision. 00:29:56.22\00:29:59.29 Yes, we have several different churches 00:29:59.33\00:30:01.36 that are just kind of scattered throughout different areas 00:30:01.40\00:30:03.97 and some of them can be, 00:30:04.00\00:30:05.33 you know, very large in comparison 00:30:05.37\00:30:07.17 that we might think of the church. 00:30:07.20\00:30:09.17 And so they have the ministers there, 00:30:09.20\00:30:12.07 they have the laymen who are volunteering their time 00:30:12.11\00:30:14.54 to meet these needs of these new baptized members. 00:30:14.58\00:30:18.55 You know, I remember him for, Jeremy, 00:30:18.58\00:30:20.52 seeing a clip of one of the churches 00:30:20.55\00:30:24.32 in the unorganized territory that was growing so rapidly, 00:30:24.35\00:30:27.59 this was a few years back. 00:30:27.62\00:30:29.49 And the interesting thing was 00:30:29.52\00:30:31.59 is that the pastor had everybody coming to the church 00:30:31.63\00:30:35.83 at 5 o'clock in the morning to pray. 00:30:35.86\00:30:38.57 And I mean, people were going in 00:30:38.60\00:30:40.44 and praying for an hour. 00:30:40.47\00:30:41.80 So before they made their commute to work, 00:30:41.84\00:30:45.94 but they were praying 00:30:45.97\00:30:48.14 for the baptism of the Holy Spirit, 00:30:48.18\00:30:49.94 they were praying 00:30:49.98\00:30:51.31 for the leading of the Holy Spirit. 00:30:51.35\00:30:53.38 And all that we would get that vision here 00:30:53.42\00:30:57.29 because that's why they were growing 00:30:57.32\00:30:59.39 in such leaps and bounds. 00:30:59.42\00:31:01.12 But there it seems like everything is, 00:31:01.16\00:31:05.89 how can you say this, 00:31:05.93\00:31:07.43 there's a rhythm to every organization 00:31:07.46\00:31:10.97 and sometimes you go through rapid spurts of growth 00:31:11.00\00:31:14.97 and then you kind of have to manage that growth 00:31:15.00\00:31:17.74 and make sure that people are solid, 00:31:17.77\00:31:21.28 but these students then 00:31:21.31\00:31:24.85 that are graduating from the college. 00:31:24.88\00:31:27.68 I imagine, if there's 5,000 ministers 00:31:27.72\00:31:32.45 and 5,000 laymen, 00:31:32.49\00:31:34.16 they can't all make it to the college. 00:31:34.19\00:31:35.66 So is part of the mission of the students 00:31:35.69\00:31:40.60 who graduate from the college with the theological training 00:31:40.63\00:31:44.73 to go back and train others? 00:31:44.77\00:31:46.60 Yeah, so they go back, 00:31:46.63\00:31:49.90 many of them cannot go back to these our churches 00:31:49.94\00:31:52.21 because they already have pastors 00:31:52.24\00:31:53.81 who are working there. 00:31:53.84\00:31:55.54 And this is the part that really touches my heart. 00:31:55.58\00:31:57.98 They are volunteering their time, 00:31:58.01\00:32:01.32 when they go back to the unorganized territories, 00:32:01.35\00:32:03.72 they are going to be called the dark areas. 00:32:03.75\00:32:05.39 Wow. 00:32:05.42\00:32:06.76 The areas they don't have any sanctioned churches. 00:32:06.79\00:32:09.09 Well. 00:32:09.12\00:32:10.46 And they're gonna be there witnessing to their friends, 00:32:10.49\00:32:12.89 their family doing the little house churches. 00:32:12.93\00:32:17.47 That's going to be what they're going to do. 00:32:17.50\00:32:19.77 Also the college sends their professors 00:32:19.80\00:32:24.41 to the unorganized territories, to the churches 00:32:24.44\00:32:27.11 and they provide theological training 00:32:27.14\00:32:30.68 for the ministers and other individuals there. 00:32:30.71\00:32:33.78 So they actually have 00:32:33.82\00:32:35.15 a percentage of their enrollment 00:32:35.18\00:32:37.32 are actually in the unorganized territories 00:32:37.35\00:32:39.72 even through it's through the Taiwan Adventist College. 00:32:39.75\00:32:42.46 Praise God. 00:32:42.49\00:32:43.99 So how is the... 00:32:44.03\00:32:47.70 In Taiwan it's mandarin, 00:32:47.73\00:32:50.43 what are the languages in China, 00:32:50.47\00:32:52.77 we've got mandarin and... 00:32:52.80\00:32:54.47 And Cantonese and many other variations. 00:32:54.50\00:32:56.81 All right. 00:32:56.84\00:32:58.97 Are they many materials available for public, 00:32:59.01\00:33:04.58 I mean published materials 00:33:04.61\00:33:06.28 to talk about the doctrines of the church or Bible studies, 00:33:06.31\00:33:09.75 do you have plenty of those or what's that like? 00:33:09.78\00:33:12.52 Yes, we have publishing house in Taiwan. 00:33:12.55\00:33:15.12 They're doing great work there. 00:33:15.16\00:33:17.16 We have the Hope Channel in Taiwan, 00:33:17.19\00:33:20.50 they are producing content 00:33:20.53\00:33:21.96 just to be beamed over its unorganized territories. 00:33:22.00\00:33:24.53 Praise the Lord. 00:33:24.57\00:33:25.90 So they see more and more of that taking place. 00:33:25.93\00:33:28.00 Oh, wonderful. 00:33:28.04\00:33:29.37 And is it... 00:33:29.40\00:33:32.54 I'm just gonna ask, 00:33:32.57\00:33:33.91 I know that Taiwan is a very safe place. 00:33:33.94\00:33:36.34 We've had gentleman that used to work here 00:33:36.38\00:33:39.01 in our pastoral department, 00:33:39.05\00:33:40.88 who went over to become a missionary teacher, 00:33:40.92\00:33:43.79 actually worked with you? That's right. Absolutely. 00:33:43.82\00:33:46.09 But I know that's a very safe territory 00:33:46.12\00:33:51.03 but the unorganized territories 00:33:51.06\00:33:55.36 is Eastern Asia, 00:33:55.40\00:33:56.90 is this against the law 00:33:56.93\00:33:59.23 to proselytize or they recognize the churches, 00:33:59.27\00:34:03.20 they don't molest the churches 00:34:03.24\00:34:04.81 so what are kind of the constraints that they have? 00:34:04.84\00:34:08.81 And that's the confusing area, 00:34:08.84\00:34:10.48 it's a very Grey area is how I would describe it. 00:34:10.51\00:34:14.25 Okay. 00:34:14.28\00:34:16.02 There was an event that took place several years ago, 00:34:16.05\00:34:18.75 where a company wanted the property 00:34:18.79\00:34:21.12 of one of our sanctioned churches 00:34:21.16\00:34:23.32 in the unorganized territories. 00:34:23.36\00:34:25.26 They went to the government and said, "We need that." 00:34:25.29\00:34:28.16 So when you say a company, 00:34:28.20\00:34:29.53 you're talking a business operation, okay. 00:34:29.56\00:34:30.90 Yeah, a business company. 00:34:30.93\00:34:32.30 And so the government acted 00:34:32.33\00:34:34.77 and they actually removed the members from the church, 00:34:34.80\00:34:39.71 destroyed the building 00:34:39.74\00:34:41.24 and they were able to then 00:34:41.28\00:34:43.08 build the business there or whatever. 00:34:43.11\00:34:44.91 So the situation... 00:34:44.95\00:34:46.28 So this was an owned property 00:34:46.31\00:34:47.65 by the church. Yes. 00:34:47.68\00:34:49.02 Were they remunerated for this? No. 00:34:49.05\00:34:51.42 No, so it was just basically seized. 00:34:51.45\00:34:53.56 Yes. Okay. 00:34:53.59\00:34:54.92 And so that's the kind of situation 00:34:54.96\00:34:56.42 that they go under. 00:34:56.46\00:34:57.79 We actually had college professors 00:34:57.83\00:35:00.23 at that church, at that time 00:35:00.26\00:35:02.20 and they were seized, and arrested, 00:35:02.23\00:35:04.17 and brought in, 00:35:04.20\00:35:05.53 they realized then they weren't from that nation 00:35:05.57\00:35:08.97 and so they were released and they came back to Taiwan. 00:35:09.00\00:35:11.84 But it can be quite serious there. 00:35:11.87\00:35:13.94 Okay. 00:35:13.98\00:35:15.31 But if you, 00:35:15.34\00:35:18.08 I mean, you're obviously here 00:35:18.11\00:35:20.32 and I think this is so precious, 00:35:20.35\00:35:21.78 you know, we have a number of people 00:35:21.82\00:35:23.62 who come to 3ABN, 00:35:23.65\00:35:24.99 and their main motivation is, 00:35:25.02\00:35:28.42 oh, we're looking for funding 00:35:28.46\00:35:30.23 but when I was speaking with Jeremy earlier, 00:35:30.26\00:35:32.76 he said, "It's not the funding 00:35:32.79\00:35:34.70 that I'm looking for so much as it is 00:35:34.73\00:35:37.30 that we just want missionaries to come over 00:35:37.33\00:35:40.84 to work in this area." 00:35:40.87\00:35:42.20 Because as we read in Matthew 24:14, 00:35:42.24\00:35:45.04 Jesus said that the gospel's gonna be preached 00:35:45.07\00:35:47.28 into all the world 00:35:47.31\00:35:49.38 and then the end will come. 00:35:49.41\00:35:51.25 This is like a final sign 00:35:51.28\00:35:54.02 and so when you are looking at, 00:35:54.05\00:35:59.99 I mean, the appeal 00:36:00.02\00:36:01.36 that you would want to make to people, 00:36:01.39\00:36:02.72 if somebody wants to come over, Taiwan's very safe, 00:36:02.76\00:36:06.26 are you looking for teachers, what are you looking for? 00:36:06.29\00:36:09.80 We have several schools in Taiwan 00:36:09.83\00:36:12.63 that look for what I call foreign teachers, 00:36:12.67\00:36:15.74 not from Taiwan. 00:36:15.77\00:36:17.74 Primarily, we are looking for teachers 00:36:17.77\00:36:19.67 from United States, 00:36:19.71\00:36:21.41 from Canada, places of this nature, 00:36:21.44\00:36:24.61 and every year when I talk to the other administrators 00:36:24.65\00:36:27.75 and saying, "Have you found your teachers for this year?" 00:36:27.78\00:36:30.39 Almost everyone is, "Oh, no. 00:36:30.42\00:36:33.36 We don't have our teachers for this year." 00:36:33.39\00:36:35.49 And that's a concern that we constantly deal with. 00:36:35.52\00:36:37.73 We need teachers who want to come out 00:36:37.76\00:36:39.96 not just to work at a job 00:36:40.00\00:36:42.43 but to work as a missionary 00:36:42.46\00:36:44.10 to teach our students God's love, 00:36:44.13\00:36:45.73 but also have a larger impact not just for our little school 00:36:45.77\00:36:50.54 but also for the support that we've deprived for the college 00:36:50.57\00:36:53.41 and then work that's been done in the unorganized territories. 00:36:53.44\00:36:56.88 Amen. 00:36:56.91\00:36:58.25 Now are you talking about missionaries 00:36:58.28\00:37:00.88 also for the unorganized territories 00:37:00.92\00:37:03.12 or more just for Taiwan? 00:37:03.15\00:37:05.22 Yeah, we're looking just for Taiwan mostly. 00:37:05.25\00:37:07.09 Okay, so I just wanted to clarify that 00:37:07.12\00:37:10.13 because it's not like you're going to be put 00:37:10.16\00:37:12.56 into a dangerous political situation 00:37:12.59\00:37:15.66 because Taiwan is quite safe. 00:37:15.70\00:37:17.90 And it's... 00:37:17.93\00:37:20.67 That's why he married and settled down there. 00:37:20.70\00:37:23.34 I love Taiwan. I know you do. 00:37:23.37\00:37:25.47 All right, so tell us what are some of the... 00:37:25.51\00:37:29.11 We're gonna give our viewers in a moment. 00:37:29.14\00:37:31.81 I just believe with all my heart 00:37:31.85\00:37:33.52 that the reason God sent you in here in the first place 00:37:33.55\00:37:36.02 is 'cause He wants to get the message out. 00:37:36.05\00:37:38.22 There's somebody out here is hearing about this 00:37:38.25\00:37:42.99 and thinking, 00:37:43.02\00:37:44.36 "Lord, is that you talking to my heart?" 00:37:44.39\00:37:46.43 Saying may be that I need to go and be a missionary teacher, 00:37:46.46\00:37:50.10 and it's a great experience 00:37:50.13\00:37:52.80 if you're young and you're single, 00:37:52.83\00:37:54.27 it's a great experience 00:37:54.30\00:37:56.20 or as our friend who was basically retired 00:37:56.24\00:38:00.01 and on social security, he went over. 00:38:00.04\00:38:03.18 That's right. 00:38:03.21\00:38:04.55 And really enjoyed his time there, 00:38:04.58\00:38:06.61 I think he's still there actually. 00:38:06.65\00:38:08.75 But tell us about some of the upcoming projects, 00:38:08.78\00:38:12.59 what do you see happening for the school? 00:38:12.62\00:38:15.89 We have a very large project 00:38:15.92\00:38:18.36 and then we guys, we went to build 00:38:18.39\00:38:20.30 a whole new school facility and dormitories 00:38:20.33\00:38:23.47 for Taiwan Adventist International School. 00:38:23.50\00:38:26.13 We have always limited 00:38:26.17\00:38:27.60 on how many students we can take 00:38:27.64\00:38:29.20 simply because we don't have this dorm housing 00:38:29.24\00:38:31.94 for the students who want to come 00:38:31.97\00:38:33.94 and that's a very large project 00:38:33.98\00:38:35.31 that we're looking for the future. 00:38:35.34\00:38:37.65 We're also looking for small projects 00:38:37.68\00:38:39.28 such as replacing the gym floor 00:38:39.31\00:38:40.75 and all those little things that go on. 00:38:40.78\00:38:42.98 But I know that God will provide 00:38:43.02\00:38:44.49 and I'm not worried about that 00:38:44.52\00:38:46.25 because as long as we're doing what God wants, 00:38:46.29\00:38:48.89 He'll provide for our needs. 00:38:48.92\00:38:50.26 Amen. 00:38:50.29\00:38:51.63 But the idea of expanding 00:38:51.66\00:38:54.70 the Taiwan Adventist International School grades 00:38:54.73\00:38:59.43 7 through 12, 00:38:59.47\00:39:02.67 the idea of expanding that 00:39:02.70\00:39:04.87 is to get in more tuition paying students, 00:39:04.91\00:39:10.78 who can support the missionary work 00:39:10.81\00:39:14.25 of the Taiwan Adventist College. 00:39:14.28\00:39:16.58 Yes, every year the president, 00:39:16.62\00:39:18.55 the vice president will call me and tell us, you know, 00:39:18.59\00:39:20.76 the only reason why we're able to do this work 00:39:20.79\00:39:24.59 is because this group of dedicated teachers 00:39:24.63\00:39:28.46 are working 00:39:28.50\00:39:29.83 and through their work, students come 00:39:29.86\00:39:33.34 and find value and love 00:39:33.37\00:39:35.34 at Taiwan Adventist International School. 00:39:35.37\00:39:37.44 And those funds are then passed on 00:39:37.47\00:39:39.94 and used to help support the college 00:39:39.97\00:39:42.11 and support the work that's been done. 00:39:42.14\00:39:44.58 You know, to me, that's a really exciting thing 00:39:44.61\00:39:47.22 because usually when you think of being a missionary teacher, 00:39:47.25\00:39:51.75 you are excited just to think, 00:39:51.79\00:39:54.62 well, I can impact the students' life, 00:39:54.66\00:39:56.96 I can impact their family's life 00:39:56.99\00:39:59.19 through that student. 00:39:59.23\00:40:00.80 But here, 00:40:00.83\00:40:02.23 if you go and volunteer as a missionary teacher, 00:40:02.26\00:40:06.00 you are not just impacting the organized church, 00:40:06.03\00:40:11.71 but you are impacting the teaching, 00:40:11.74\00:40:16.31 the training for those who are then going out 00:40:16.34\00:40:20.12 into the unorganized territories. 00:40:20.15\00:40:23.08 Praise God. 00:40:23.12\00:40:24.45 And that is... 00:40:24.49\00:40:25.82 You talk about the ripple effect. 00:40:25.85\00:40:27.52 Yeah, that has changed my perspective on things, 00:40:27.56\00:40:29.79 you know. Absolutely. 00:40:29.82\00:40:31.33 And before we always kind of worry about funds 00:40:31.36\00:40:33.50 instead of organization where are the funds going to. 00:40:33.53\00:40:36.87 When you see this kind of work that's been done, 00:40:36.90\00:40:39.77 that thing suddenly becomes so unimportant 00:40:39.80\00:40:43.44 and the thing that it becomes important 00:40:43.47\00:40:45.11 is where God is leading. 00:40:45.14\00:40:46.47 Yeah. 00:40:46.51\00:40:47.84 Now, you are having some legal issues. 00:40:47.88\00:40:53.85 You said that your wife used to work 00:40:53.88\00:40:56.38 for the government. 00:40:56.42\00:40:59.09 Kind of tell us about that? 00:40:59.12\00:41:01.62 So before I met her, you know, I married up, 00:41:01.66\00:41:05.29 she used to work in the press core 00:41:05.33\00:41:07.96 for a previous president in Taiwan. 00:41:08.00\00:41:10.83 And she helped different politicians 00:41:10.87\00:41:13.13 become elected to their campaigns 00:41:13.17\00:41:15.80 and after we were married, 00:41:15.84\00:41:18.87 she started working for our school here. 00:41:18.91\00:41:22.04 Boy, that was a blessing. 00:41:22.08\00:41:23.78 And thing that really changed 00:41:23.81\00:41:25.61 and made a significant impact on our school 00:41:25.65\00:41:28.15 was before this, 00:41:28.18\00:41:29.52 we were not recognized by the government. 00:41:29.55\00:41:32.25 And it was a problem 00:41:32.29\00:41:34.79 and we didn't know how to orient that. 00:41:34.82\00:41:38.36 But then the government opened up a program 00:41:38.39\00:41:41.00 called Non School Type Institutions. 00:41:41.03\00:41:45.67 We applied for that, 00:41:45.70\00:41:47.44 we sat before the board of education 00:41:47.47\00:41:50.14 for Nantou County. 00:41:50.17\00:41:52.27 And they asked me, 00:41:52.31\00:41:53.81 "Why do you want to have this school?" 00:41:53.84\00:41:58.61 And something rang in my brain that said, 00:41:58.65\00:42:00.98 "I need to tell them this." 00:42:01.02\00:42:02.82 And I told them, 00:42:02.85\00:42:04.19 "We're not stealing students from county schools, 00:42:04.22\00:42:07.82 we have many students in Taiwan who want to go abroad 00:42:07.86\00:42:11.29 for even their high school 00:42:11.33\00:42:13.13 not to mention their university 00:42:13.16\00:42:15.56 but they're going to the States, 00:42:15.60\00:42:18.03 they're going to other places 00:42:18.07\00:42:19.40 and they are not been prepared 00:42:19.43\00:42:20.90 for what they're going to experience there 00:42:20.94\00:42:22.67 and some of them have got involved in drugs and worse. 00:42:22.70\00:42:27.58 And we want to provide a place for them 00:42:27.61\00:42:29.91 to mature and to grow 00:42:29.94\00:42:32.25 so that when they go and experience those places, 00:42:32.28\00:42:35.25 they're ready and prepared." 00:42:35.28\00:42:37.19 And there were some members in that board 00:42:37.22\00:42:40.02 whose own children had gone to the States for college, 00:42:40.06\00:42:45.69 and they said this is what we want. 00:42:45.73\00:42:48.30 And do you need a campus, 00:42:48.33\00:42:50.70 we could even maybe find a campus for you. 00:42:50.73\00:42:52.47 Glory to God. 00:42:52.50\00:42:53.84 We had one and they accepted us, 00:42:53.87\00:42:56.67 and we are actually the only school in Taiwan 00:42:56.71\00:42:59.01 to have the status 00:42:59.04\00:43:00.38 of offering the international high school diploma 00:43:00.41\00:43:02.81 to Taiwanese students 00:43:02.84\00:43:04.58 in this Non School Type Organization. 00:43:04.61\00:43:07.58 And my wife is the main person 00:43:07.62\00:43:09.38 who works the governmental lease 00:43:09.42\00:43:10.79 on with them. 00:43:10.82\00:43:12.15 What a miracle. It's just... isn't it exciting... 00:43:12.19\00:43:14.89 It's amazing. 00:43:14.92\00:43:16.39 You see, you know, a lot of times 00:43:16.42\00:43:18.43 we don't see God orchestrating everything 00:43:18.46\00:43:23.16 until it's done. 00:43:23.20\00:43:24.53 And then you see how He's like this master chess player, 00:43:24.57\00:43:27.34 He's put this piece here and this piece here 00:43:27.37\00:43:29.80 and all of a sudden He's made all these different moves 00:43:29.84\00:43:33.88 and as it comes together, 00:43:33.91\00:43:35.51 it's just a miracle how He's work this out. 00:43:35.54\00:43:39.51 Well, this is all too exciting 00:43:39.55\00:43:41.98 and we're going to come back in just a moment. 00:43:42.02\00:43:45.55 We'll give you the opportunity to see their address 00:43:45.59\00:43:49.46 but first we've got another song 00:43:49.49\00:43:51.96 from our dear sister Yvonne Lewis Shelton, 00:43:51.99\00:43:56.26 and she is going to be singing for us 00:43:56.30\00:43:59.77 "Wonders never cease". 00:43:59.80\00:44:01.74 I heard He walked on water 00:44:22.86\00:44:27.00 And opened blinded eyes 00:44:27.03\00:44:31.90 The deaf were made to hear again 00:44:31.93\00:44:36.97 And the dead were called to rise 00:44:37.01\00:44:40.94 But when I gave Him all my heart 00:44:40.98\00:44:45.78 A greater thing took place 00:44:45.81\00:44:49.58 The Lord of every miracle 00:44:49.62\00:44:54.16 Redeemed me by His grace 00:44:54.19\00:45:00.53 And wonders never cease 00:45:00.56\00:45:05.13 As long as I believe 00:45:05.17\00:45:09.17 And place my life 00:45:09.20\00:45:11.64 Within the nail scarred hands 00:45:11.67\00:45:15.41 That bled for me 00:45:15.44\00:45:18.31 And when I think I've seen His best 00:45:18.35\00:45:23.42 I stand amazed to see 00:45:23.45\00:45:29.29 His glory never ends 00:45:29.32\00:45:36.06 And wonders never cease 00:45:36.10\00:45:40.34 He still walks on water 00:45:56.05\00:46:01.19 To calm my trouble seas 00:46:01.22\00:46:03.76 And in the midst of thunder 00:46:03.79\00:46:09.16 I can hear Him speaking peace 00:46:09.20\00:46:12.67 And though some believe His miracles 00:46:12.70\00:46:18.17 Are just part of yesterday 00:46:18.21\00:46:22.58 I'm living proof 00:46:22.61\00:46:24.88 His changing power will never pass away 00:46:24.91\00:46:30.59 And wonders never cease 00:46:34.86\00:46:38.83 As long as I believe 00:46:38.86\00:46:42.83 And I place my life 00:46:42.86\00:46:45.67 Within the nail scarred hands that bled for me 00:46:45.70\00:46:52.27 And when I think I've seen His best 00:46:52.31\00:46:57.15 I stand amazed to see 00:46:57.18\00:47:03.28 His glory never ends 00:47:03.32\00:47:07.36 Wonders never cease 00:47:12.86\00:47:17.27 As long as I believe 00:47:17.30\00:47:21.64 And I place my life 00:47:21.67\00:47:24.01 Within the nail scarred hands that bled for me 00:47:24.04\00:47:30.65 And when I think I've seen His best 00:47:30.68\00:47:35.48 I stand amazed to see 00:47:35.52\00:47:41.62 His glory never end 00:47:41.66\00:47:45.03 And wonders never cease 00:47:48.36\00:47:54.80 His glory never end 00:47:54.84\00:47:59.17 Oh, no 00:47:59.21\00:48:01.78 And wonders never cease. 00:48:01.81\00:48:07.92 Wonders never cease, 00:48:35.38\00:48:36.71 and you know Jeremy has so many stories about students 00:48:36.75\00:48:40.12 whose lives have been impacted, 00:48:40.15\00:48:41.55 who've turned their lives over to Christ, 00:48:41.58\00:48:43.45 but we don't have time for them all, 00:48:43.49\00:48:44.95 but please share the story of Rocky? 00:48:44.99\00:48:47.92 So Rocky Wang, he actually began our school 00:48:47.96\00:48:51.06 as a third grader 00:48:51.09\00:48:52.43 when we used to have a elementary program there 00:48:52.46\00:48:54.70 and then later on he came back to our high school. 00:48:54.73\00:48:58.07 In grade 11, he wanted to get baptized 00:48:58.10\00:49:02.24 but his family was not interested, 00:49:02.27\00:49:04.27 but he was determined and he argued with his family 00:49:04.31\00:49:07.08 and he convinced them to allow him to be baptized. 00:49:07.11\00:49:10.55 Praise God. 00:49:10.58\00:49:11.91 And I remember very clearly, 00:49:11.95\00:49:14.08 it was our spring break mission trip, 00:49:14.12\00:49:17.19 we went out to the mountains of the aboriginal villages 00:49:17.22\00:49:20.29 and we were not just cleaning up the village, 00:49:20.32\00:49:23.49 we're doing 00:49:23.53\00:49:24.86 the vacation Bible school for the kids 00:49:24.89\00:49:26.83 but we also had a responsibility 00:49:26.86\00:49:28.70 of putting on the church programs 00:49:28.73\00:49:30.97 on either side of the trip, 00:49:31.00\00:49:32.63 so we had two church programs 00:49:32.67\00:49:35.30 and he volunteered, he wanted to preach. 00:49:35.34\00:49:38.31 Glory to God. 00:49:38.34\00:49:39.67 And I'm sitting there in this church program, 00:49:39.71\00:49:43.78 I remember when he was a very little boy 00:49:43.81\00:49:46.25 and now he's upfront, 00:49:46.28\00:49:48.28 and he's preaching God's word 00:49:48.32\00:49:50.75 to our own Seventh-day Adventist members 00:49:50.79\00:49:53.66 in the church. 00:49:53.69\00:49:55.16 You know, it was such a real moment to see, 00:49:55.19\00:49:56.69 "Wow! God, this is You." 00:49:56.73\00:49:59.66 Amen. This is Your love. 00:49:59.69\00:50:01.33 Amen, it must... 00:50:01.36\00:50:03.93 How has it impacted to you? 00:50:03.97\00:50:05.80 How has it changed you personally 00:50:05.83\00:50:07.57 since you've been there? 00:50:07.60\00:50:09.67 I went from thinking 00:50:09.70\00:50:11.94 that I'm coming here as a missionary to help God. 00:50:11.97\00:50:18.05 I went from that to realizing I'm a missionary in Taiwan 00:50:18.08\00:50:23.25 and God's gonna use that to change my life. 00:50:23.28\00:50:26.15 Amen. 00:50:26.19\00:50:27.52 And what He's doing for me cannot be accounted for. 00:50:27.56\00:50:30.69 It may not be a material wealth 00:50:30.73\00:50:32.93 but the blessings that I've received, 00:50:32.96\00:50:35.46 I could never have imagined. 00:50:35.50\00:50:38.07 And I think any missionary, 00:50:38.10\00:50:40.57 maybe they have a similar experience 00:50:40.60\00:50:42.54 that I went through 00:50:42.57\00:50:43.91 or I'm doing something for God 00:50:43.94\00:50:45.94 but actually it's all for me 00:50:45.97\00:50:48.08 and through that His work can be impacted 00:50:48.11\00:50:51.38 on those around us. 00:50:51.41\00:50:52.75 Absolutely, 00:50:52.78\00:50:54.68 I don't know if you know Sergio Bellino, 00:50:54.72\00:50:56.89 but I was interviewing him not too long back 00:50:56.92\00:51:01.39 and he made the most interesting comment 00:51:01.42\00:51:03.53 'cause he is missionary in Africa at a school 00:51:03.56\00:51:07.33 and he said, "You know, it is when we are in service, 00:51:07.36\00:51:14.07 it's easier for God to save us." 00:51:14.10\00:51:16.60 He said, all of us feel like we're going into service 00:51:16.64\00:51:19.74 to be of assistance to the Lord working in His harvest field, 00:51:19.77\00:51:23.61 but he said he realized that 00:51:23.65\00:51:25.61 it was as he went into the mission field 00:51:25.65\00:51:27.95 that God was really doing the salvation work on him. 00:51:27.98\00:51:32.12 I just believe with all my heart 00:51:32.15\00:51:33.89 somebody that's listening is saying, 00:51:33.92\00:51:36.29 you know, "I'd like to be a missionary teacher, 00:51:36.32\00:51:39.49 I would like to go 00:51:39.53\00:51:42.16 and not only impact the students of the community 00:51:42.20\00:51:46.33 but to know that 00:51:46.37\00:51:47.80 even though I'm in the safe area of Taiwan 00:51:47.84\00:51:50.57 that my efforts are funding the teaching, 00:51:50.61\00:51:54.78 the training, seminary training 00:51:54.81\00:51:57.65 for those who are working in the unorganized territories. 00:51:57.68\00:52:01.35 So if you would like to get in touch with Jeremy, 00:52:01.38\00:52:05.22 and or perhaps, 00:52:05.25\00:52:06.59 maybe the Holy Spirit is encouraging you 00:52:06.62\00:52:09.22 to support their expansion program 00:52:09.26\00:52:12.56 for their school, 00:52:12.59\00:52:14.16 here's how you can get in touch with him. 00:52:14.20\00:52:18.30 Are you a certified Adventist teacher 00:52:18.33\00:52:20.24 who longs to do mission work? 00:52:20.27\00:52:22.30 Then please consider 00:52:22.34\00:52:23.67 the Taiwan Adventist International School. 00:52:23.71\00:52:26.54 They also need our support to build new dormitories. 00:52:26.57\00:52:29.64 This important school supports the training 00:52:29.68\00:52:31.91 of East Asian Pastors and ministers 00:52:31.95\00:52:34.08 in the unorganized territory, 00:52:34.12\00:52:36.32 so please visit their website, www.TAIS.tw. 00:52:36.35\00:52:42.32 There you'll find photos of campus life, 00:52:42.36\00:52:44.89 academics and much more. 00:52:44.93\00:52:46.90 Their website again is www.TAIS.tw. 00:52:46.93\00:52:51.77 And it is important to use the www prefix. 00:52:51.80\00:52:55.80 Visit them today. 00:52:55.84\00:52:57.27
