And that is good information. 00:00:01.36\00:00:02.70 Jonathan, when we left, 00:00:02.73\00:00:04.07 we were going to talk about the Middle East, 00:00:04.10\00:00:05.43 and we heard so much about that, 00:00:05.47\00:00:06.80 and then sort of a little picture 00:00:06.84\00:00:08.30 of what the future of ADRA is? 00:00:08.34\00:00:09.67 Sure. 00:00:09.70\00:00:11.04 You know, I love working in the Middle East, 00:00:11.07\00:00:14.51 and I think I love working in Middle East 00:00:14.54\00:00:16.21 because I'm a spiritual person 00:00:16.24\00:00:18.25 and I find that I could make a spiritual connection 00:00:18.28\00:00:20.78 with the people there. 00:00:20.82\00:00:22.15 And that has actually enabled us to be in areas 00:00:22.18\00:00:24.92 that not every NGO is working in. 00:00:24.95\00:00:27.32 So we're working in Sudan, 00:00:27.36\00:00:29.16 and recently when I visited Sudan, 00:00:29.19\00:00:30.83 we were given an award by the Sudanese government, 00:00:30.86\00:00:33.19 first time that they've done that 00:00:33.23\00:00:34.70 for a western organization. 00:00:34.73\00:00:36.23 Yes. 00:00:36.26\00:00:37.60 Because of the way that we worked, they say, 00:00:37.63\00:00:38.97 "If we want to affect change in the community, 00:00:39.00\00:00:40.34 we know that we need to work with ADRA 00:00:40.37\00:00:41.90 'cause you're in those communities." 00:00:41.94\00:00:43.91 We're inside Syria which as you can imagine, 00:00:43.94\00:00:47.38 it's not particularly easy, 00:00:47.41\00:00:49.21 but we've got a good relationship 00:00:49.24\00:00:51.51 and we're able to work effectively there as well. 00:00:51.55\00:00:54.65 We're inside Yemen, which is challenging 00:00:54.68\00:00:57.32 with the war-torn things and things happening there, 00:00:57.35\00:00:59.55 but the staff are being really faithful 00:00:59.59\00:01:01.36 and stayed throughout that time. 00:01:01.39\00:01:02.82 And we're running a significant programs there, 00:01:02.86\00:01:06.19 we're running about a $35 million a year program 00:01:06.23\00:01:09.30 in Yemen at the moment. 00:01:09.33\00:01:11.27 Trying to help stability for people 00:01:11.30\00:01:13.10 amongst all the instability, 00:01:13.13\00:01:14.87 how do you bring that stability into their lives 00:01:14.90\00:01:17.34 and give some hope. 00:01:17.37\00:01:19.27 And so throughout the Middle East, 00:01:19.31\00:01:22.31 it's a real honor 00:01:22.34\00:01:23.68 and a pleasure to be able to work there 00:01:23.71\00:01:25.25 and to be trusted there 00:01:25.28\00:01:27.52 because, you know, there's agencies 00:01:27.55\00:01:29.38 that had been asked to leave 00:01:29.42\00:01:30.75 but we've been one of the few 00:01:30.79\00:01:32.12 that has being seen to be a good partner there. 00:01:32.15\00:01:35.06 Praise the Lord. 00:01:35.09\00:01:36.46 And the future? 00:01:36.49\00:01:37.83 You know, the future of ADRA, 00:01:37.86\00:01:39.29 I believe is really comes down to our name, 00:01:39.33\00:01:43.10 the Adventist Development and Relief Agency. 00:01:43.13\00:01:45.00 Yes. 00:01:45.03\00:01:46.37 You know, as we said earlier, there is 95% of the... 00:01:46.40\00:01:49.90 Eighty-five percent of world's population 00:01:49.94\00:01:51.54 is affiliated with some form of religion. 00:01:51.57\00:01:54.41 And the way to move, change society 00:01:54.44\00:01:58.31 is through faith leaders. 00:01:58.35\00:01:59.95 And how do we ignite 00:01:59.98\00:02:01.82 and how do we resource our church communities 00:02:01.85\00:02:05.79 to being agents of change and hope 00:02:05.82\00:02:07.42 within our own communities 00:02:07.46\00:02:08.79 because as an agency, I have 7,000 staff, 00:02:08.82\00:02:11.56 you know, I'm in 140 countries. 00:02:11.59\00:02:13.73 But my resources are finite 00:02:13.76\00:02:15.60 and the greatest resource is people. 00:02:15.63\00:02:17.67 And how do we actually engage with people? 00:02:17.70\00:02:19.63 Give them that sense of mission and purpose 00:02:19.67\00:02:22.10 to be the agents of hope and change 00:02:22.14\00:02:23.47 in your own community. 00:02:23.51\00:02:24.84 And so, you know, as much as we have plans 00:02:24.87\00:02:26.94 for how do we develop ourselves professionally, 00:02:26.98\00:02:29.24 I think it's how do we actually partner with church. 00:02:29.28\00:02:31.81 Yes, yes. 00:02:31.85\00:02:33.62 Wonderful.
