Okay, sure. 00:03:10.25\00:03:11.59 But what is FREE INC? 00:03:11.62\00:03:14.39 Okay, so it stands for 00:03:14.42\00:03:15.99 Friends of Refugees providing Education and Empowerment. 00:03:16.02\00:03:19.89 We started it in 2010 00:03:19.93\00:03:23.53 when we heard about a group of young kids 00:03:23.57\00:03:26.17 that were begging to get private education 00:03:26.20\00:03:29.07 because the schools they were attending, 00:03:29.10\00:03:30.81 there was a lot of gangs and violence. 00:03:30.84\00:03:32.54 And that's how it all started in 2010 00:03:32.57\00:03:35.68 was here in the needs of a group of kids 00:03:35.71\00:03:38.85 wanting to get private safe environment 00:03:38.88\00:03:42.38 to study and to learn. 00:03:42.42\00:03:43.75 Okay, this is just exciting. I've just met these people. 00:03:43.79\00:03:47.56 But their ministry is so exciting. 00:03:47.59\00:03:50.93 And it will show you the power of love 00:03:50.96\00:03:54.06 that love never fails. 00:03:54.10\00:03:55.73 But first we've got one of our own 00:03:55.76\00:03:57.53 who's going to sing a song for us. 00:03:57.57\00:03:59.63 And that is Tammy Chance. 00:03:59.67\00:04:01.44 And she will be singing Because of who you are. 00:04:01.47\00:04:06.64 Since Jesus came and found me 00:04:18.05\00:04:21.09 And He put his arms around me 00:04:21.12\00:04:24.06 And all my binding fetters took away 00:04:24.09\00:04:30.10 Although I loved Him dearly 00:04:30.13\00:04:33.00 And trusted Him sincerely 00:04:33.03\00:04:36.10 I've never loved Him better than today 00:04:36.14\00:04:42.11 I've never loved Him better than today 00:04:42.14\00:04:47.98 I've never felt Him closer along a way 00:04:48.02\00:04:54.02 And oh how sweet the feeling 00:04:54.06\00:04:57.03 When in His presence kneeling 00:04:57.06\00:05:00.10 I've never loved Him better than today 00:05:00.13\00:05:04.13 Oh blessed friend supernal 00:05:09.17\00:05:12.01 My hope and joy eternal 00:05:12.04\00:05:15.04 Keep thou my soul 'til shadows flee away 00:05:15.08\00:05:21.05 Anoint me I would pray, Lord 00:05:21.08\00:05:24.12 Till ends this pilgrims way, Lord 00:05:24.15\00:05:27.12 I've never loved Him better than today 00:05:27.16\00:05:33.09 I've never loved Him better than today 00:05:33.13\00:05:39.03 I've never felt Him closer along a way 00:05:39.07\00:05:45.04 And oh how sweet the feeling 00:05:45.07\00:05:48.04 When in His presence kneeling 00:05:48.08\00:05:51.08 I've never loved Him better than today 00:05:51.11\00:05:56.99 I've never loved Him better 00:05:57.02\00:05:59.99 No, I've never loved Him better 00:06:00.02\00:06:02.96 No, I've never loved Him better than today 00:06:02.99\00:06:07.66 Thank you, Tammy. That was beautiful. 00:06:15.97\00:06:18.24 If you are joining us just a few minutes late, 00:06:18.27\00:06:21.24 our program today is about a ministry called FREE INC. 00:06:21.28\00:06:27.05 This is a 501 ministry. 00:06:27.08\00:06:30.09 And FREE is an acronym for 00:06:30.12\00:06:34.69 Friends of Refugees providing Education and Empowerment. 00:06:34.72\00:06:39.53 So we have with us 00:06:39.56\00:06:41.36 Kelli Czaykowsky and Marina Falls, 00:06:41.40\00:06:43.50 who are founder and co-founder of this ministry, 00:06:43.53\00:06:47.24 and then all these beautiful children, 00:06:47.27\00:06:49.10 thank you so much for coming here. 00:06:49.14\00:06:51.04 Tell us when... 00:06:51.07\00:06:53.54 Repeat for us how you started, why you started this ministry. 00:06:53.58\00:06:57.78 Okay, So Marina and I both set on a school board 00:06:57.81\00:07:01.52 in Georgia, Duluth Adventist Christian School 00:07:01.55\00:07:03.45 with, you know, our biological kids. 00:07:03.49\00:07:05.42 And we had heard, in 2010, 00:07:05.45\00:07:08.62 of a group of kids, refugee kids. 00:07:08.66\00:07:10.96 And ironically, to be honest, I didn't know 00:07:10.99\00:07:12.99 what refugee meant when I started this 501. 00:07:13.03\00:07:18.27 We heard about a group of kids that were begging, 00:07:18.30\00:07:20.34 the superintendent... 00:07:20.37\00:07:21.87 Let me just back up for just a second. 00:07:21.90\00:07:24.44 We are always accustomed to calling people 00:07:24.47\00:07:27.94 in the United States refugees, so where have they come from? 00:07:27.98\00:07:31.31 They were from refugee camps? From... 00:07:31.35\00:07:33.92 Okay, so a lot of the kids that... 00:07:33.95\00:07:38.15 well, the kids that we help are refugees 00:07:38.19\00:07:39.79 from all over the world, 00:07:39.82\00:07:41.16 United Nations chooses Clarkston in Georgia 00:07:41.19\00:07:45.26 as one of the places that the refugees come to. 00:07:45.29\00:07:49.00 It's actually the most, the first square mile 00:07:49.03\00:07:51.73 in America, Clarkston, Georgia is there's 00:07:51.77\00:07:54.20 thousands of refugees within a square mile. 00:07:54.24\00:07:56.74 There's 60 languages spoken there. 00:07:56.77\00:07:59.21 So it's definitely a mission field. 00:07:59.24\00:08:01.94 So they're brought here from United Nations 00:08:01.98\00:08:04.08 because Clarkston offers low housing, 00:08:04.11\00:08:08.22 affordable housing, public transportation. 00:08:08.25\00:08:11.25 So obviously, when refugees arrive to America 00:08:11.29\00:08:14.62 or wherever they go, they don't have anything 00:08:14.66\00:08:16.89 but what's in their bag, so there's no cars or anything. 00:08:16.93\00:08:19.69 So Clarkston has a public transportation 00:08:19.73\00:08:21.86 that runs right through the city. 00:08:21.90\00:08:24.10 And then also the climate as it's not too harsh, 00:08:24.13\00:08:26.94 not too cold, not too high, and that's why 00:08:26.97\00:08:29.24 United Nations had chosen Clarkston 00:08:29.27\00:08:31.21 as one of the places for refugees to come. 00:08:31.24\00:08:34.58 So in 2010, I had heard of a group of refugees 00:08:34.61\00:08:38.75 that were begging, the superintendent 00:08:38.78\00:08:40.82 who had gone to visit them for private education. 00:08:40.85\00:08:44.82 And I thought, you know, how can only... 00:08:44.85\00:08:49.52 Marina and I and Sharon, there's three of us 00:08:49.56\00:08:52.19 that our heart was really burdened 00:08:52.23\00:08:53.56 to help the kids, you know, help these people. 00:08:53.60\00:08:55.96 We went and we saw the conditions 00:08:56.00\00:08:57.70 that they were living in. 00:08:57.73\00:08:59.07 And the parents and the faith that they still had up there, 00:08:59.10\00:09:02.30 all the struggles that they've gone through 00:09:02.34\00:09:04.21 just to get here. 00:09:04.24\00:09:05.57 And we, I can only speak for myself 00:09:05.61\00:09:07.84 but I couldn't sleep for three nights. 00:09:07.88\00:09:10.15 I was just up. It really bothered me. 00:09:10.18\00:09:12.21 And I remember praying to God just saying if He opened, 00:09:12.25\00:09:16.08 you know, the doors, I would walk through them, 00:09:16.12\00:09:18.22 and that's been my prayer, you know, the hope ministry, 00:09:18.25\00:09:20.96 and He's opened them very well for us. 00:09:20.99\00:09:23.56 So we started off just providing education 00:09:23.59\00:09:27.10 for 12 in 2010. 00:09:27.13\00:09:29.66 Why were the parents asking for private education? 00:09:29.70\00:09:33.20 Because in Clarkston, there's so many different languages, 00:09:33.23\00:09:36.30 and the school system there is a second 00:09:36.34\00:09:38.37 from the bottom in Georgia. 00:09:38.41\00:09:40.01 And they're overwhelmed themselves 00:09:40.04\00:09:41.94 with, you know, the needs of all the kids, 00:09:41.98\00:09:46.01 a lot of our parents, they don't understand English 00:09:46.05\00:09:48.48 or speak it. 00:09:48.52\00:09:49.85 So it's hard for them to help them 00:09:49.88\00:09:51.22 with their kids' homework. 00:09:51.25\00:09:52.59 And the parents themselves are usually gone, 00:09:52.62\00:09:55.62 most of the day they drive hour and half 00:09:55.66\00:09:57.53 to go to the chicken factories. 00:09:57.56\00:09:59.33 So the kids are, you know, by themselves 00:09:59.36\00:10:02.46 trying to do their homework. 00:10:02.50\00:10:03.83 And they need a lot of one-on-one. 00:10:03.87\00:10:06.47 The public school unfortunately, 00:10:06.50\00:10:07.87 they're probably doing all they can 00:10:07.90\00:10:09.24 but they can't provide that. 00:10:09.27\00:10:10.81 There's a lot of gangs in the schools, a lot of drugs, 00:10:10.84\00:10:13.68 and child trafficking in the area. 00:10:13.71\00:10:15.71 So a lot of their parents, their prayer was that we, 00:10:15.74\00:10:18.98 you know, helped them with food and clothing, 00:10:19.01\00:10:20.95 but all they wanted was their kids 00:10:20.98\00:10:23.22 to be in a safe environment 00:10:23.25\00:10:24.82 to be able to study and to learn. 00:10:24.85\00:10:27.82 So that's where we started off with education 00:10:27.86\00:10:30.13 because that was prayers and the desires 00:10:30.16\00:10:33.56 and the burden that God placed on my heart. 00:10:33.60\00:10:36.50 Marina, you all have known each other for how long? 00:10:36.53\00:10:39.67 Kelli and I have known each other 00:10:39.70\00:10:41.10 probably 15 years, 15, 16 years. 00:10:41.14\00:10:44.17 Our sons have been in the same class basically 00:10:44.21\00:10:47.31 since kindergarten through high school. 00:10:47.34\00:10:50.31 And they're both now in college, 00:10:50.35\00:10:52.11 so it's been a long time. 00:10:52.15\00:10:54.02 And we first met each other at the school. 00:10:54.05\00:10:58.45 And then we served on the school board together 00:10:58.49\00:11:01.09 and then we just developed friendship 00:11:01.12\00:11:03.12 that's become like a sisterhood now. 00:11:03.16\00:11:05.39 We're sisters basically. 00:11:05.43\00:11:07.63 And we both work, you know, with the charity that we have. 00:11:07.66\00:11:12.60 You know, we have a burden for helping 00:11:12.63\00:11:15.10 the underprivileged, and Clarkston, 00:11:15.14\00:11:17.44 and the children. 00:11:17.47\00:11:18.81 So we work very closely together. 00:11:18.84\00:11:20.78 Amen. 00:11:20.81\00:11:22.14 And, you know, now we've got Padday, Ngoga, and Man Kim, 00:11:22.18\00:11:25.95 and Lwe, and Da Nay. 00:11:25.98\00:11:27.75 You all go to the Adventist school, huh? 00:11:27.78\00:11:30.29 All of you? Right. Yes, ma'am. 00:11:30.32\00:11:31.65 We're going to talk to each one of you 00:11:31.69\00:11:33.02 in just a minute. 00:11:33.05\00:11:34.39 But when you say that these people are just rescued 00:11:34.42\00:11:40.90 from refugee camps, they're brought into Clarkston, 00:11:40.93\00:11:45.27 and there's thousands of people in this one square mile 00:11:45.30\00:11:50.27 that have very diverse culture. 00:11:50.31\00:11:51.67 So there's a culture shock going on first. 00:11:51.71\00:11:55.78 When we talk about low cost of housing, 00:11:55.81\00:11:59.28 it's actually about $600 to $1,000 a month, 00:11:59.31\00:12:02.35 and they've only get the first two months free, 00:12:02.38\00:12:04.29 is that correct? 00:12:04.32\00:12:05.65 Yes, three months that they get free, 00:12:05.69\00:12:07.06 and then they're completely on their own after that. 00:12:07.09\00:12:09.22 So if they haven't found the job, 00:12:09.26\00:12:11.33 most of them work at chicken factory. 00:12:11.36\00:12:13.13 If they haven't found a job in the first three months, 00:12:13.16\00:12:16.06 what happens? 00:12:16.10\00:12:17.47 They just get kicked out of the house as you're hived. 00:12:17.50\00:12:22.90 And so, you know, 00:12:22.94\00:12:25.77 we don't go around town tenure by, 00:12:25.81\00:12:27.41 we help with the rent 'cause we do so much. 00:12:27.44\00:12:29.81 But if we do find people, for instance, 00:12:29.84\00:12:33.08 that's how I actually met Ngoga and his family. 00:12:33.11\00:12:35.82 The mom was shot in the revolution in her leg, 00:12:35.85\00:12:39.25 and so it's hard for her to work. 00:12:39.29\00:12:40.62 And the dad is not here. So that's how we met them. 00:12:40.66\00:12:43.66 As we didn't want them to end up on the street, 00:12:43.69\00:12:46.13 so we helped them with the rent, 00:12:46.16\00:12:47.50 and that's how we got a relationship with them. 00:12:47.53\00:12:49.86 And they're currently, all five of the boys 00:12:49.90\00:12:51.67 are in our school, right now. 00:12:51.70\00:12:53.80 So, you know, I always believe that 00:12:53.84\00:12:56.20 you don't go by black and white. 00:12:56.24\00:12:57.91 I mean, as a board we were like, 00:12:57.94\00:12:59.61 we don't, how we realm, you know, we don't do college, 00:12:59.64\00:13:02.31 but those things are both not accurate now. 00:13:02.34\00:13:05.51 I believe that you go with the burden 00:13:05.55\00:13:06.88 that God places on your heart. 00:13:06.92\00:13:08.65 And you don't worry about, I know a lot of people say that 00:13:08.68\00:13:12.65 they walk in faith and stuff, but, you know, 00:13:12.69\00:13:14.59 you can't worry about how you're going to pay for this 00:13:14.62\00:13:16.66 or, you know, at the end of the year 00:13:16.69\00:13:18.06 what you're going to have. 00:13:18.09\00:13:19.43 I really believe that what we're given 00:13:19.46\00:13:21.13 we just return it back to the refugees. 00:13:21.16\00:13:23.16 And God allows those doors open 00:13:23.20\00:13:25.20 because these people themselves are at home praying, 00:13:25.23\00:13:27.90 and we don't hear those prayers, only God does. 00:13:27.94\00:13:30.84 So when we feel a burden on our heart, 00:13:30.87\00:13:32.94 and we run into, you know, the people. 00:13:32.97\00:13:34.78 We've been over there for a while now, 00:13:34.81\00:13:36.18 so they have our numbers, 00:13:36.21\00:13:37.55 we'll get calls for them all the night for diapers. 00:13:37.58\00:13:39.95 We'll get people that need rides to the hospital 00:13:39.98\00:13:41.88 that don't drive. 00:13:41.92\00:13:43.39 You'll be surprised the needs that people have 00:13:43.42\00:13:46.65 is not only that they're hungry, 00:13:46.69\00:13:49.29 but they're also thirsty for love, and for yeah... 00:13:49.32\00:13:52.66 And I know that's been your motto 00:13:52.69\00:13:54.26 is just to love them and introduce them 00:13:54.30\00:13:56.53 to the love of God as well. 00:13:56.56\00:13:58.03 Because we love Him because He first loved us. 00:13:58.07\00:14:01.20 So, Ngoga, you're from the Congo? 00:14:01.24\00:14:06.37 No, from Rwanda. No. 00:14:06.41\00:14:08.78 Well, he is originally from the Congo 00:14:08.81\00:14:11.45 but because of the revolution in the Congo, they fled Congo, 00:14:11.48\00:14:14.88 and they ended up in the refugee camps 00:14:14.92\00:14:17.29 on the Rwanda border. 00:14:17.32\00:14:18.89 So they say they're from Rwanda, 00:14:18.92\00:14:20.42 but they're originally from Congo. 00:14:20.46\00:14:21.79 Okay, from Rwanda. 00:14:21.82\00:14:23.16 What do you like, Ngoga, 00:14:23.19\00:14:25.26 about going to the Adventist school? 00:14:25.29\00:14:27.96 They help people with something 00:14:28.00\00:14:32.70 when they need, or something to do, 00:14:32.73\00:14:34.94 they help them. 00:14:34.97\00:14:36.60 stop to help them what to do, 00:14:36.64\00:14:40.38 and after then we're gonna eat food. 00:14:40.41\00:14:44.35 And after they eat food, they let them play. 00:14:44.38\00:14:47.22 So you get a lot of help, and you get to eat, 00:14:47.25\00:14:50.99 and you get to... 00:14:51.02\00:14:52.42 You said what is your favorite subject? 00:14:52.45\00:14:55.02 Math. Math. 00:14:55.06\00:14:56.49 Let's give a high-five. Yes, me too. 00:14:56.52\00:15:00.13 So you're learning a lot. 00:15:00.16\00:15:03.60 Did his family speak English when they came? 00:15:03.63\00:15:06.03 They don't, they still... 00:15:06.07\00:15:07.40 Well, the mom does not speak English at all. 00:15:07.44\00:15:09.90 The children because of going to school 00:15:09.94\00:15:12.11 they're picking up the English. 00:15:12.14\00:15:13.81 Absolutely. Okay. 00:15:13.84\00:15:16.64 And I know Padday is Burmese? Yes. 00:15:16.68\00:15:21.65 She's Korean from, yeah, Burma. 00:15:21.68\00:15:23.82 Okay. Now you give many services. 00:15:23.85\00:15:28.52 You have, I think, we've got some pictures that... 00:15:28.56\00:15:31.19 let's run through these pictures 00:15:31.23\00:15:32.56 so that you get an overview, then we're going to come back 00:15:32.59\00:15:34.66 and speak to each one of these children. 00:15:34.70\00:15:37.13 But let's get a good overview of the ministry because... 00:15:37.17\00:15:41.40 How many of you here, first let me ask this question. 00:15:41.44\00:15:43.94 How many of you have seen a dentist recently? 00:15:43.97\00:15:46.44 Raise your hand if you've seen the dentist. 00:15:46.47\00:15:48.54 You went to the dentist? Yep, everyone of you. 00:15:48.58\00:15:51.65 So that's a service that you find dentist 00:15:51.68\00:15:55.25 who are willing to give their services free. 00:15:55.28\00:15:59.15 We do everything. No. 00:28:25.87\00:28:28.07 Actually if you come and volunteer at my charity, 00:28:28.10\00:28:32.24 that's something that I let you know upfront is that 00:28:32.27\00:28:34.78 we don't force anything on the people 00:28:34.81\00:28:37.98 because if you truly love, and you want to help people, 00:28:38.01\00:28:40.92 and you're doing it for them, 00:28:40.95\00:28:42.28 you meet people at where they are, 00:28:42.32\00:28:44.09 and you provide what they need. 00:28:44.12\00:28:45.69 And then to me, it's God's responsibility 00:28:45.72\00:28:48.39 to put the burden on people's heart. 00:28:48.42\00:28:50.49 So if you really believe in what you're doing, 00:28:50.53\00:28:52.46 and you are really being inspired from, 00:28:52.49\00:28:55.63 you know, God, then you have to trust 00:28:55.66\00:28:57.93 that He will do all that, that's not your job. 00:28:57.97\00:29:00.10 Your job is to go and love 00:29:00.14\00:29:01.54 and to show them it's unconditional. 00:29:01.57\00:29:03.30 You know, how many times I've been asked like, 00:29:03.34\00:29:04.97 "You know, Miss Kelli, why do you help us, 00:29:05.01\00:29:06.37 why do you love us? 00:29:06.41\00:29:07.84 You know, why are you doing this for?" 00:29:07.88\00:29:09.34 And, you know, I tell them, it's our job. 00:29:09.38\00:29:11.91 I mean, Marina and I, you know, it's what we're supposed to do. 00:29:11.95\00:29:14.32 I mean... 00:29:14.35\00:29:15.68 It's a desire of your heart. Yes. 00:29:15.72\00:29:17.99 That's what He has given us to do. 00:29:18.02\00:29:19.35 But with Lwe, what's amazing about him 00:29:19.39\00:29:22.59 the day he got baptized, his brothers, 00:29:22.62\00:29:26.39 he has two younger brothers. 00:29:26.43\00:29:27.83 And they told me, "Miss Kelli, we want to get baptized. 00:29:27.86\00:29:30.33 We want to want to get baptized." 00:29:30.37\00:29:31.70 So, you know, we're currently doing 00:29:31.73\00:29:33.60 Bible studies with them. 00:29:33.64\00:29:34.97 So some people just see what we're doing 00:29:35.00\00:29:37.77 and they question, "Why are you providing 00:29:37.81\00:29:40.41 private education in a public school?" 00:29:40.44\00:29:42.98 But what people don't understand is that 00:29:43.01\00:29:44.91 when you educate a mind, you're educating the soul. 00:29:44.95\00:29:48.02 So you're not just providing, you know, breaking the cycle 00:29:48.05\00:29:51.79 where they have a chance at a future, you know, 00:29:51.82\00:29:53.96 financially and academically, but you're also giving them, 00:29:53.99\00:29:58.93 I mean, honestly like I'm sure God could open 00:29:58.96\00:30:01.76 other doors for Lwe later on, 00:30:01.80\00:30:03.77 but he probably wouldn't even know 00:30:03.80\00:30:05.20 what the Seventh-day Adventist was 00:30:05.23\00:30:07.64 if it wasn't for the education that we were providing. 00:30:07.67\00:30:10.71 So that's seeing the whole picture, 00:30:10.74\00:30:13.58 a lot of people, they just see the immediate, 00:30:13.61\00:30:15.21 you know, what may come, these kids get As and Bs, 00:30:15.24\00:30:19.61 but for me, that's not the goal at all, 00:30:19.65\00:30:22.28 I mean, that's just a piece of what we're offering. 00:30:22.32\00:30:24.72 Okay. 00:30:24.75\00:30:26.09 Well, now speaking of As, 00:30:26.12\00:30:27.66 Man Kim, your sister has a 4.0 average 00:30:27.69\00:30:32.19 and is in dental school. 00:30:32.23\00:30:33.70 Are you smart like your sister? 00:30:33.73\00:30:35.96 Yes. Yeah. 00:30:36.00\00:30:38.50 That's wonderful. 00:30:38.53\00:30:39.87 Modest too, I can see. 00:30:39.90\00:30:41.64 So when your family first came to the United States, 00:30:41.67\00:30:46.41 do you remember that, what it was like? 00:30:46.44\00:30:49.38 It was hard because none of my family 00:30:49.41\00:30:54.28 know how to speak English. 00:30:54.32\00:30:55.65 And we didn't have much food, or clothing, 00:30:55.68\00:30:58.65 and like educating, 00:30:58.69\00:31:00.69 and when we heard of FREE, 00:31:00.72\00:31:05.33 they helped us like, gave us education, 00:31:05.36\00:31:09.06 and food, and clothing, 00:31:09.10\00:31:12.47 and then they also helped us like, 00:31:12.50\00:31:17.37 you know, how to speak English. 00:31:17.41\00:31:20.21 Praise God. 00:31:20.24\00:31:21.58 Now do you have classes for the parents? 00:31:21.61\00:31:24.15 Learn how to speak English as well? 00:31:24.18\00:31:25.65 We do. Yes. 00:31:25.68\00:31:27.12 Well, that's wonderful. That's wonderful. 00:31:27.15\00:31:29.45 So when you have this group of people 00:31:29.48\00:31:35.42 that you're ministering to in this way, 00:31:35.46\00:31:38.13 what are the greatest challenges of the ministry? 00:31:38.16\00:31:42.96 To me, personally, the greatest challenge, 00:31:43.00\00:31:46.07 believe it or not, is trying to educate Americans 00:31:46.10\00:31:50.21 who want to come out and to help. 00:31:50.24\00:31:52.07 And then they question like, we make 50 lunches a day. 00:31:52.11\00:31:55.14 And, you know, sometimes they question you, 00:31:55.18\00:31:57.55 "Are you empowering or enabling these people 00:31:57.58\00:32:00.42 if you're making the lunches every day?" 00:32:00.45\00:32:02.78 And so, to me, it's a challenge to let people understand 00:32:02.82\00:32:07.62 that just because, you know, you survived the war, 00:32:07.66\00:32:10.63 and the jungles, and everything that you've gone through, 00:32:10.66\00:32:13.70 you know, you're in America. 00:32:13.73\00:32:15.06 Yes, they are in America now. 00:32:15.10\00:32:16.63 But the challenges are so real. 00:32:16.67\00:32:19.03 And you don't want the people 00:32:19.07\00:32:20.94 that have been through all this stuff, 00:32:20.97\00:32:22.30 and they're suppressed and everything 00:32:22.34\00:32:23.67 to go through depression, 00:32:23.71\00:32:25.04 and everything they're going through. 00:32:25.07\00:32:26.41 And yeah, they might have food with their food stamps 00:32:26.44\00:32:28.88 at the beginning of the month, 00:32:28.91\00:32:30.25 but at the end of the month, their cabinets are empty. 00:32:30.28\00:32:32.35 Like when we first started helping, we didn't do lunches. 00:32:32.38\00:32:35.65 And one of the little girl got off the bus, 00:32:35.68\00:32:37.85 and she was crying. 00:32:37.89\00:32:39.22 And I said, you know, "Why are you crying?" 00:32:39.25\00:32:41.76 And she said, "Because my stomach hurts 00:32:41.79\00:32:43.43 'cause I didn't eat breakfast." 00:32:43.46\00:32:45.99 I'm a mom of five biological kids. 00:32:46.03\00:32:48.13 And I was laughing, then I said, "Get up earlier, 00:32:48.16\00:32:50.47 and make yourself breakfast." 00:32:50.50\00:32:52.57 And she said, "No, Miss Kelly, 00:32:52.60\00:32:53.94 we don't have food in our house." 00:32:53.97\00:32:55.30 So to me, some of the biggest challenges 00:32:55.34\00:32:58.67 would be letting people really understand that, 00:32:58.71\00:33:02.68 yes, they're working, they're paying taxes, 00:33:02.71\00:33:05.11 they're doing everything that we're doing, 00:33:05.15\00:33:06.48 they're not living off the government, 00:33:06.51\00:33:07.85 but they do need a hand up still 00:33:07.88\00:33:09.45 because the income they're bring in 00:33:09.48\00:33:11.35 isn't enough to make it to the end of the month. 00:33:11.39\00:33:13.99 So if I'm going to make, you know, 50 lunches a day, 00:33:14.02\00:33:19.53 then, you know, people need to understand 00:33:19.56\00:33:21.66 there's a reason why we're doing that. 00:33:21.70\00:33:23.63 Amen. And most of them have very large families. 00:33:23.67\00:33:26.77 Yes. 00:33:26.80\00:33:28.14 Padday, how many brothers and sisters do you have? 00:33:28.17\00:33:30.54 I have two sisters. Two sisters. 00:33:30.57\00:33:33.17 How about you, Ngoga? 00:33:33.21\00:33:35.64 I have five brothers. 00:33:35.68\00:33:37.11 Five brothers. 00:33:37.15\00:33:38.48 And Man Kim? One brother and one sister. 00:33:38.51\00:33:40.52 One brother and one sister. You're the tiny family here. 00:33:40.55\00:33:43.69 Lwe? 00:33:43.72\00:33:45.05 Two brothers and three sisters. 00:33:45.09\00:33:47.16 Two brothers and three sisters, so six children. 00:33:47.19\00:33:49.39 Da Nay? 00:33:49.42\00:33:50.76 Three brothers and three sisters. 00:33:50.79\00:33:52.13 Three brothers, seven babies. 00:33:52.16\00:33:53.96 So it is very difficult for them to... 00:33:54.00\00:33:58.73 I mean, can you imagine in your wildest imagination 00:33:58.77\00:34:03.30 what if somebody were to pluck your family up right now 00:34:03.34\00:34:07.98 and take you to Myanmar 00:34:08.01\00:34:10.65 and just deposit you there, and say, 00:34:10.68\00:34:12.71 "Here, we'll give you a roof 00:34:12.75\00:34:14.88 over your head for three months. 00:34:14.92\00:34:17.02 But after that, you're on your own." 00:34:17.05\00:34:18.79 Can you imagine what it would be like 00:34:18.82\00:34:20.69 if you couldn't speak the language, 00:34:20.72\00:34:22.96 if you didn't understand the culture? 00:34:22.99\00:34:26.26 And, you know, I asked one of you, 00:34:26.29\00:34:28.86 I think it was Da Nay, 00:34:28.90\00:34:30.60 earlier, did you feel like you were better off 00:34:30.63\00:34:35.00 when you came to the United States? 00:34:35.04\00:34:36.60 Did you recognize this was what we call a leg up 00:34:36.64\00:34:39.47 that you were going to be the better position? 00:34:39.51\00:34:41.84 But they don't. 00:34:41.88\00:34:43.21 They're just as fearful 00:34:43.24\00:34:44.58 'cause it is totally strange surroundings. 00:34:44.61\00:34:47.82 So I praise God that He put it on your heart 00:34:47.85\00:34:51.42 to start this ministry to help these people 00:34:51.45\00:34:56.02 because you become their friends. 00:34:56.06\00:34:57.89 And I love the fact 00:34:57.93\00:34:59.79 that you're not forcing anything on them. 00:34:59.83\00:35:04.37 You are doing what Jesus did. 00:35:04.40\00:35:07.20 He came and He said, He came to show us the Father, 00:35:07.24\00:35:10.84 the love of the Father. 00:35:10.87\00:35:12.61 That's what you're doing is showing the love of God. 00:35:12.64\00:35:15.94 And then people want to know who this God is 00:35:15.98\00:35:20.42 that you serve that is so loving. 00:35:20.45\00:35:22.42 Yeah. Exactly. 00:35:22.45\00:35:23.79 And I believe that if you impose 00:35:23.82\00:35:25.75 your beliefs on other people, 00:35:25.79\00:35:27.52 they might just do it just to satisfy you. 00:35:27.56\00:35:29.72 And it's not going to be everlasting. 00:35:29.76\00:35:31.19 That just might be temporary, like a year or two, 00:35:31.23\00:35:33.43 and then they'll go back to, 00:35:33.46\00:35:34.80 you know, their old ways or what they believe in, 00:35:34.83\00:35:37.30 or their old addictions and stuff. 00:35:37.33\00:35:39.30 But if you allow God to work on their soul 00:35:39.33\00:35:42.47 and, you know, and put the burden on their heart, 00:35:42.50\00:35:44.61 and let them question 00:35:44.64\00:35:46.01 what it is Sabbath, and the different things, 00:35:46.04\00:35:48.44 then, you know, it will be their choice, 00:35:48.48\00:35:50.25 and they will believe in it, 00:35:50.28\00:35:51.61 and, you know, a lot longer, yeah. 00:35:51.65\00:35:53.98 All right, so you were a hand therapist before. 00:35:54.02\00:35:56.99 Yes. 00:35:57.02\00:35:58.35 And you're doing this fulltime now. 00:35:58.39\00:35:59.99 Yes. 00:36:00.02\00:36:01.39 What have you gained through this ministry? 00:36:01.42\00:36:03.83 I've gained so much. 00:36:03.86\00:36:06.93 It's amazing because, you know, people think that, 00:36:06.96\00:36:10.10 I'm sure Marina will agree with me, 00:36:10.13\00:36:11.73 that we're helping these people. 00:36:11.77\00:36:14.04 But what people don't realize 00:36:14.07\00:36:15.40 is that a lot of these refugees were Christians, 00:36:15.44\00:36:18.41 and that's why they were being executed 00:36:18.44\00:36:20.48 and forced out of their own country 00:36:20.51\00:36:22.01 is because they believed in God. 00:36:22.04\00:36:24.38 So when they look at me, 00:36:24.41\00:36:26.15 and I know they've witnessed so much stuff, 00:36:26.18\00:36:28.68 it's unbelievable, 00:36:28.72\00:36:31.09 the stories we hear will give you nightmares. 00:36:31.12\00:36:33.19 I mean honestly, 00:36:33.22\00:36:34.56 the people that are supposed to be protecting 00:36:34.59\00:36:35.92 you are the ones that are causing injury to you. 00:36:35.96\00:36:38.83 I mean, they would hold our pastor from Burma. 00:36:38.86\00:36:42.93 He's from the Korean group. 00:36:42.96\00:36:44.30 He would have to hold his grandbaby's mouth 00:36:44.33\00:36:46.53 underneath the bridge so the, 00:36:46.57\00:36:48.10 you know, the Burmese soldiers wouldn't hear the baby's cry 00:36:48.14\00:36:50.21 or, you know, they were forced to execute all the Christians. 00:36:50.24\00:36:53.78 So what I've gained from this is looking at these people 00:36:53.81\00:36:57.38 and seeing their smiles and their faith 00:36:57.41\00:36:59.88 that they've had to bring them to America, 00:36:59.91\00:37:03.59 it just motivates me and makes me see that, 00:37:03.62\00:37:07.82 you know, the struggles I have, 00:37:07.86\00:37:09.52 yeah, we all have struggles, you know, we're humans, 00:37:09.56\00:37:12.06 everyone has something to deal with. 00:37:12.09\00:37:13.90 But if we just believe and keep our faith, 00:37:13.93\00:37:16.80 and it's just amazing, 00:37:16.83\00:37:19.20 you know, the faith that they have, 00:37:19.23\00:37:20.74 it's instilled in me 00:37:20.77\00:37:22.10 so much more believe and determination to, 00:37:22.14\00:37:25.81 you know, show the love of God 00:37:25.84\00:37:27.74 because He's brought them here for a reason. 00:37:27.78\00:37:30.68 Yeah, I'm just a part of the plan. 00:37:30.71\00:37:32.28 You know, there's a reason that He has. 00:37:32.31\00:37:33.95 He is using you as His hands and His feet. 00:37:33.98\00:37:36.75 So, Marina, where did you come from originally? 00:37:36.79\00:37:38.75 I'm originally from Kenya. 00:37:38.79\00:37:40.19 From Kenya. Yes. 00:37:40.22\00:37:41.56 Now what have you gained 00:37:41.59\00:37:44.53 from being involved in this ministry? 00:37:44.56\00:37:48.30 For me, it's a soul satisfaction 00:37:48.33\00:37:52.83 in helping my brother and sister. 00:37:52.87\00:37:55.34 It's something that, you know, I think God places 00:37:55.37\00:37:58.07 in each and every one of us love for our fellow men. 00:37:58.11\00:38:01.48 And so it's just taking it a step further to see 00:38:01.51\00:38:04.28 how you can help your brother and sister 00:38:04.31\00:38:07.48 who are struggling, 00:38:07.52\00:38:08.85 you know, who don't understand, who need help. 00:38:08.88\00:38:10.69 So for me, it's satisfying that need 00:38:10.72\00:38:14.29 that I have within my soul 00:38:14.32\00:38:16.22 to connect with my brother and sister 00:38:16.26\00:38:18.99 to help them to get to the next level 00:38:19.03\00:38:23.00 so that they can help their family and future generations. 00:38:23.03\00:38:28.14 Because when we help a child, we're not just helping a child, 00:38:28.17\00:38:30.74 we're helping the generation that's coming from that child. 00:38:30.77\00:38:34.24 So that's one of the core things that keeps me going, 00:38:34.28\00:38:39.31 you know, and keeps me motivated 00:38:39.35\00:38:43.25 to keep doing this work. 00:38:43.28\00:38:44.79 Amen. What is ESL? 00:41:31.09\00:41:33.19 English, you know, speakers of other languages. 00:41:33.22\00:41:35.89 Yeah, the second language. 00:41:35.92\00:41:38.29 So offering them classes to learn English 00:41:38.33\00:41:41.26 because it's really hard as a parent 00:41:41.30\00:41:42.93 not to be able to communicate with your child's teacher 00:41:42.96\00:41:45.63 or to even make a doctor's appointment. 00:41:45.67\00:41:47.84 And that's where the empowerment comes in 00:41:47.87\00:41:49.97 because when you have to call someone, 00:41:50.01\00:41:51.87 let's say your son's sick 00:41:51.91\00:41:53.64 and you can't even call to make an appointment, 00:41:53.68\00:41:55.51 they call us. 00:41:55.54\00:41:57.05 And we're trying to empower the parents, 00:41:57.08\00:42:00.02 you know, we do the ESL classes. 00:42:00.05\00:42:02.25 Also, we would like to have like a box truck. 00:42:02.28\00:42:05.69 So right now, these are my goals of the future. 00:42:05.72\00:42:08.72 Right now, every time we go pick up, 00:42:08.76\00:42:10.49 we run a U-Haul, and it's crazy. 00:42:10.53\00:42:13.03 And, you know, just things like that that would allow us 00:42:13.06\00:42:17.73 to service more people 00:42:17.77\00:42:19.93 because the needs are there, 00:42:19.97\00:42:21.64 and our hearts are there, 00:42:21.67\00:42:23.00 it's just, you know, with the resources and stuff, 00:42:23.04\00:42:25.41 you just can't continue to do everything with, 00:42:25.44\00:42:29.11 tuition being our greatest thing. 00:42:29.14\00:42:32.55 Okay, so you are a 501(c)(3). 00:42:32.58\00:42:35.85 And which means 00:42:35.88\00:42:39.39 they are a non-profit organization. 00:42:39.42\00:42:43.43 I mean, what are you looking for? 00:42:43.46\00:42:45.73 Are you looking for volunteers? 00:42:45.76\00:42:47.56 What kind of things are you looking for? 00:42:47.60\00:42:49.40 Okay, sure. 00:42:49.43\00:42:50.77 Yes, so volunteers are always great 00:42:50.80\00:42:52.13 because the kids, 00:42:52.17\00:42:53.97 they don't get a lot of attention, 00:42:54.00\00:42:55.87 there's hundreds of kids, 00:42:55.90\00:42:57.41 and they, you know, just walk around a lot on their own. 00:42:57.44\00:43:00.51 So, you know, mentors for the kids, 00:43:00.54\00:43:03.78 is great to help with homework. 00:43:03.81\00:43:05.31 We have hours that you can come to our office. 00:43:05.35\00:43:08.15 And we'll have 15 to 20 to 30 kids 00:43:08.18\00:43:10.89 that need help with their homework 00:43:10.92\00:43:12.35 in the afternoons. 00:43:12.39\00:43:14.69 If someone knew of like a box truck that, 00:43:14.72\00:43:17.39 you know, they could give us, that would be great, 00:43:17.43\00:43:21.10 that we could pick up 'cause we go to the food bank, 00:43:21.13\00:43:23.23 maybe pick up food, 00:43:23.26\00:43:24.60 and then bring it out, we distribute it. 00:43:24.63\00:43:25.97 We pick up furniture, like let's say you're moving, 00:43:26.00\00:43:28.40 and you're going to get new furniture, 00:43:28.44\00:43:30.07 we have people sleep on the floor 00:43:30.11\00:43:31.61 even like, last night people slept on the floor, 00:43:31.64\00:43:33.71 they don't have furniture 'cause when you come 00:43:33.74\00:43:35.94 and you get some help, but you don't get furniture, 00:43:35.98\00:43:39.01 and stuff like that, or mattresses. 00:43:39.05\00:43:40.38 So we'll go and we'll pick up used mattresses and furniture. 00:43:40.42\00:43:43.42 And we bring them for the families, 00:43:43.45\00:43:45.15 probably 700 homes or apartments 00:43:45.19\00:43:47.79 are furnished from us 00:43:47.82\00:43:49.16 from, you know, the furniture that we pick up. 00:43:49.19\00:43:53.06 And, you know, also like a van, we have get 00:43:53.09\00:43:56.50 because we have the bus, 00:43:56.53\00:43:58.50 but obviously, you got to have a CDL license, 00:43:58.53\00:44:01.20 and so it's really hard, 00:44:01.24\00:44:02.80 our bus driver, actually, he's sick right now. 00:44:02.84\00:44:05.87 So it's really hard on us right now without him. 00:44:05.91\00:44:09.38 He's one of our main guys, you know. 00:44:09.41\00:44:11.48 So that's been really challenging for us. 00:44:11.51\00:44:13.62 And his sickness will be, 00:44:13.65\00:44:17.39 I mean, the prognosis is not good 00:44:17.42\00:44:20.56 for this H-4 situation. 00:44:20.59\00:44:22.36 So that's... So yeah. 00:44:22.39\00:44:26.13 And what else? Prayers for him. 00:44:26.16\00:44:28.13 Yeah, we have to pray for him. 00:44:28.16\00:44:29.76 So without him, it's really hard to pick up stuff 00:44:29.80\00:44:31.93 because what he would do is he would take the bus. 00:44:31.97\00:44:35.87 What else do we need for needs? 00:44:35.90\00:44:37.97 Yeah, we really love him, he's is the good guy. 00:44:38.01\00:44:39.71 I can tell. I can tell. 00:44:39.74\00:44:41.28 And it's hard when somebody is likeminded 00:44:41.31\00:44:44.61 and exhibits the same love. 00:44:44.65\00:44:49.42 You know, my thought is that as you're watching this... 00:44:49.45\00:44:53.92 One question first, is there still an influx of... 00:44:53.96\00:44:58.16 Are the refugees still coming? Yes. 00:44:58.19\00:45:00.40 Well, it's slowed down, but we still get... 00:45:00.43\00:45:01.86 It's slowed down because of the new administration rules 00:45:01.90\00:45:05.10 they had to shut it down completely. 00:45:05.13\00:45:07.20 But I think they're opening it up to half the number 00:45:07.24\00:45:11.27 that they used to, that used to come in every year. 00:45:11.31\00:45:14.41 So it's trickling in. 00:45:14.44\00:45:15.78 But yeah, they're still coming in. 00:45:15.81\00:45:17.31 You have any idea how many refugees are in that area? 00:45:17.35\00:45:20.18 There's thousands... 00:45:20.22\00:45:21.55 I know they get 2,000 every year in Clarkston, 00:45:21.58\00:45:23.69 new refugees. 00:45:23.72\00:45:25.05 That's amazing. Yeah. 00:45:25.09\00:45:26.42 And the mayor is really on board 00:45:26.45\00:45:29.39 with his subbed-in refugees, the mayor of Clarkston. 00:45:29.42\00:45:32.23 Amen.
