I want to spend my life 00:00:01.73\00:00:07.60 Mending broken people 00:00:07.64\00:00:12.54 I want to spend my life 00:00:12.57\00:00:18.71 Removing pain 00:00:18.75\00:00:23.72 Lord, let my words 00:00:23.75\00:00:30.03 Heal a heart that hurts 00:00:30.06\00:00:34.63 I want to spend my life 00:00:34.66\00:00:40.44 Mending broken people 00:00:40.47\00:00:45.81 I want to spend my life 00:00:45.84\00:00:51.35 Mending broken people 00:00:51.38\00:00:55.25 Hello and welcome to a very special 3ABN Today. 00:01:08.20\00:01:12.23 My name is CA Murray 00:01:12.27\00:01:13.84 and allow me once again to thank you 00:01:13.87\00:01:15.20 for sharing just a little of your day with us. 00:01:15.24\00:01:17.97 Today's a very special program. 00:01:18.01\00:01:20.01 Some years ago, when I was pastoring in New York City, 00:01:20.04\00:01:23.41 I had a chance to sit and talk 00:01:23.45\00:01:25.18 with then mayor of New York City, 00:01:25.21\00:01:27.22 Edward I Koch. 00:01:27.25\00:01:28.58 I explained to him about Adventism, 00:01:28.62\00:01:30.45 what the Adventist church is doing 00:01:30.49\00:01:32.12 as he walked through the church 00:01:32.15\00:01:33.49 and together we began a dialogue 00:01:33.52\00:01:35.22 about the many things 00:01:35.26\00:01:36.59 that the Adventist church was doing. 00:01:36.62\00:01:38.26 Loma Linda University, the many colleges and schools. 00:01:38.29\00:01:41.06 And he said to me at that time, 00:01:41.10\00:01:43.06 "I didn't know this about the Seventh-day Adventists. 00:01:43.10\00:01:45.57 You may be the very best kept secret 00:01:45.60\00:01:49.34 in all of the Christian world." 00:01:49.37\00:01:51.84 Well, today, on today's program 00:01:51.87\00:01:53.71 we want to talk about an institution 00:01:53.74\00:01:56.24 which may be one of the very best kept secrets 00:01:56.28\00:02:00.28 in all of Adventism 00:02:00.32\00:02:01.65 but hopefully after today's program 00:02:01.68\00:02:03.42 it won't be a kept secret anymore 00:02:03.45\00:02:04.99 and that's Ouachita Hills Academy and College 00:02:05.02\00:02:08.72 there in Arkansas. 00:02:08.76\00:02:10.73 Jill and Greg Morikone had a chance to go 00:02:10.76\00:02:13.36 and spend some time on the campus of the college 00:02:13.40\00:02:16.13 and of the academy. 00:02:16.16\00:02:17.97 And today we're going to focus on the Academy, 00:02:18.00\00:02:19.73 some of the work that the Academy is doing, 00:02:19.77\00:02:21.64 some of the great men and women 00:02:21.67\00:02:23.27 who superintend the work at the academy, 00:02:23.30\00:02:25.81 and some of the wonderful consecrated students 00:02:25.84\00:02:28.68 who attend that school, 00:02:28.71\00:02:30.95 and who graduate from that school, 00:02:30.98\00:02:33.08 and go on to college, 00:02:33.11\00:02:34.45 and go on to serve 00:02:34.48\00:02:35.82 the Seventh-day Adventist church. 00:02:35.85\00:02:37.25 We're very, very excited to highlight Ouachita Hills 00:02:37.29\00:02:40.12 and that is a mouthful, 00:02:40.16\00:02:41.49 Ouachita Hills there in Arkansas. 00:02:41.52\00:02:44.33 In our first segment, Greg and Jill have a chance 00:02:44.36\00:02:47.10 to speak with the principal of the school Harriet Clark. 00:02:47.13\00:02:51.23 She is accompanied by Rob Neall 00:02:51.27\00:02:53.90 who is the registrar and he also teaches, 00:02:53.94\00:02:57.41 and they're going to be discussing 00:02:57.44\00:02:58.84 the founding of the academy 00:02:58.87\00:03:00.84 and the academics that take place 00:03:00.88\00:03:03.41 on the campus of Ouachita Hills Academy. 00:03:03.45\00:03:07.25 Thank you Pastor CA. 00:03:07.28\00:03:08.82 We are here on the beautiful campus 00:03:08.85\00:03:10.92 of Ouachita Hills Academy and College, 00:03:10.95\00:03:13.25 and today we want to talk about Ouachita Hills Academy. 00:03:13.29\00:03:16.29 This is not a green screen, 00:03:16.32\00:03:17.66 this is actually, we are actually outside 00:03:17.69\00:03:19.83 the sunshine, you'll see the clouds come and go. 00:03:19.86\00:03:21.63 You may see it get dark, little bit of light, 00:03:21.66\00:03:23.00 maybe even a rabbit or a dog run behind us. 00:03:23.03\00:03:25.23 This campus is absolutely gorgeous. 00:03:25.27\00:03:27.70 About what, 30 minutes or so from the interstate 00:03:27.74\00:03:31.44 and it seems like you're going out 00:03:31.47\00:03:32.81 in the middle of nowhere 00:03:32.84\00:03:34.18 and maybe we are, 00:03:34.21\00:03:35.54 but then it just opens up into a beautiful campus. 00:03:35.58\00:03:36.95 The campus is not only beautiful 00:03:36.98\00:03:38.35 but the people here are too. 00:03:38.38\00:03:39.71 The students that we've met, the staff here as well. 00:03:39.75\00:03:42.25 But today we have a number of things 00:03:42.28\00:03:44.25 that are gonna happen, we're going to have 00:03:44.29\00:03:45.62 some students come, some more staff join us. 00:03:45.65\00:03:48.52 We're going to introduce who we have here shortly. 00:03:48.56\00:03:50.39 So we're going to go to some different segments 00:03:50.43\00:03:51.93 but I know that you'll enjoy today's program. 00:03:51.96\00:03:54.06 Amen. That's right. 00:03:54.10\00:03:55.43 It's such a privilege to be here on the campus 00:03:55.46\00:03:57.47 as Greg said at Ouachita Hills Academy and College. 00:03:57.50\00:04:00.24 And we don't want to waste any more time, 00:04:00.27\00:04:02.04 we want to introduce 00:04:02.07\00:04:03.41 Mrs. Harriet Clark and Rob Neall. 00:04:03.44\00:04:05.17 And, Mrs. Clark, I just think 00:04:05.21\00:04:07.08 Greg and I have known you for many years. 00:04:07.11\00:04:09.81 I was trying to think how many years, maybe 25? 00:04:09.84\00:04:13.82 Something like that. Something like that. 00:04:13.85\00:04:15.68 It's been a long time. 00:04:15.72\00:04:17.05 But thank you so much 00:04:17.09\00:04:18.42 for how you poured into not only our lives 00:04:18.45\00:04:19.79 but so many young people through the years. 00:04:19.82\00:04:21.29 You and your husband are, are 00:04:21.32\00:04:22.89 and continue to be tremendous blessing, 00:04:22.92\00:04:24.83 have been continue to be. 00:04:24.86\00:04:26.19 And your entire family. Thank you. 00:04:26.23\00:04:27.56 That's right. That for sure. 00:04:27.60\00:04:28.93 So where did the vision start for Ouachita Hills Academy? 00:04:28.96\00:04:32.70 I think the vision started back in the 70s 00:04:32.73\00:04:35.40 while we were in Loma Linda. 00:04:35.44\00:04:37.14 My husband wanted to go to mission service, 00:04:37.17\00:04:40.04 we both wanted to do mission service. 00:04:40.08\00:04:41.88 And when he graduated, we owed too much money 00:04:41.91\00:04:44.98 and the General Conference wouldn't consider us. 00:04:45.01\00:04:47.18 And so we thought, let's go to a dark county 00:04:47.22\00:04:49.88 and do mission service. 00:04:49.92\00:04:51.65 And a few years later read about Madison: 00:04:51.69\00:04:55.12 God's Beautiful Farm 00:04:55.16\00:04:56.52 and all of the units that they set up, 00:04:56.56\00:04:58.86 which became real beacons of light in those communities. 00:04:58.89\00:05:02.20 We thought we'd love to do something like that 00:05:02.23\00:05:04.23 in the South Western Union 00:05:04.27\00:05:05.60 and especially in Arkansas, Louisiana, our home conference. 00:05:05.63\00:05:08.40 Wow, amen. 00:05:08.44\00:05:10.74 And so then the academy was born not in the 70s 00:05:10.77\00:05:13.78 but what year did the Ouachita Hills Academy actually began? 00:05:13.81\00:05:16.28 1988. 00:05:16.31\00:05:17.65 Wow. Wow. 00:05:17.68\00:05:19.01 That's a number of years. 00:05:19.05\00:05:20.38 So through the years 00:05:20.42\00:05:21.75 I'm sure it's hard to count each student 00:05:21.78\00:05:23.59 but you're probably in the well 00:05:23.62\00:05:24.95 and the hundreds that have passed through 00:05:24.99\00:05:26.76 Ouachita Hills Academy, 00:05:26.79\00:05:28.12 and it's neat too because the academy, 00:05:28.16\00:05:29.52 I know we're not here to focus on the college 00:05:29.56\00:05:31.39 but God has also birth a college, 00:05:31.43\00:05:32.96 Ouachita Hills College here too. 00:05:32.99\00:05:34.83 You know, when you think about the original dream, 00:05:34.86\00:05:36.83 you probably had no idea where it would be today. 00:05:36.87\00:05:40.20 No, we didn't. Yeah. 00:05:40.24\00:05:42.44 So you look at it all that's here and you say, 00:05:42.47\00:05:45.27 "Well, praise thee to the Lord from whom all mercies flow." 00:05:45.31\00:05:47.08 Amen. Amen. Amen. 00:05:47.11\00:05:48.81 Because I understand that, I mean, 00:05:48.84\00:05:51.35 you know, we're here in front of the boys' dorm, 00:05:51.38\00:05:53.11 we have beautiful administration buildings, 00:05:53.15\00:05:55.08 the girl's dorm behind us here, 00:05:55.12\00:05:57.79 cafeteria, all the staff homes 00:05:57.82\00:06:00.36 and you don't owe on any of this? 00:06:00.39\00:06:02.99 Right, by God's grace. 00:06:03.02\00:06:05.19 Amen. That's correct. That's incredible. 00:06:05.23\00:06:07.06 The Lord has been faithful. 00:06:07.10\00:06:08.43 He has and we only build as we have the money to build, 00:06:08.46\00:06:11.90 and so sometimes it takes us 00:06:11.93\00:06:13.30 a long time to finish a building. 00:06:13.34\00:06:15.97 But when it's done, it's done well 00:06:16.00\00:06:18.34 and we don't owe anything on it. 00:06:18.37\00:06:20.08 Amen. That's such a blessing. 00:06:20.11\00:06:22.08 It's been quite a few years since Greg and I were here 00:06:22.11\00:06:24.25 and just walking the campus 00:06:24.28\00:06:25.78 and seeing the changes in the buildings 00:06:25.81\00:06:27.92 and how it's growing, that's a blessing. 00:06:27.95\00:06:29.28 Now you are a principal 00:06:29.32\00:06:30.65 and you wear other hats as well? 00:06:30.69\00:06:32.19 I do. 00:06:32.22\00:06:33.56 Okay, you teach or...? 00:06:33.59\00:06:34.92 I teach, I teach sophomore, 00:06:34.96\00:06:37.19 and senior English, and senior Bible, 00:06:37.23\00:06:40.73 and a vocational education class. 00:06:40.76\00:06:43.26 And then we want to get into the work study program. 00:06:43.30\00:06:45.13 But, Rob, tell us your position here, 00:06:45.17\00:06:47.17 and what you do at Ouachita Hills Academy? 00:06:47.20\00:06:49.07 Oh, I'm the registrar currently, 00:06:49.10\00:06:50.44 and I also teach, I teach Bible, and history, 00:06:50.47\00:06:52.57 and I direct the bell choir. 00:06:52.61\00:06:54.94 So, you know, you just said that like just really quick. 00:06:54.98\00:06:57.01 I mean, those are like serious responsibilities. 00:06:57.05\00:07:01.18 We all wear many hats. 00:07:01.22\00:07:02.92 Yeah. 00:07:02.95\00:07:04.29 You know, it's a labor of love able to minister, 00:07:04.32\00:07:06.25 it's a calling really. 00:07:06.29\00:07:07.62 It is. Amen. 00:07:07.66\00:07:08.99 And you and your wife 00:07:09.02\00:07:10.36 and I know you have a couple of children 00:07:10.39\00:07:11.73 have been here now, how long? 00:07:11.76\00:07:13.09 Seventeen, while I've been here 17 years 00:07:13.13\00:07:14.46 I met my wife here. 00:07:14.50\00:07:15.83 She was a graduate of the school 00:07:15.86\00:07:17.20 way back from the very beginning. 00:07:17.23\00:07:18.63 So another blessing. 00:07:18.67\00:07:20.00 Yeah, you have a beautiful wife. 00:07:20.04\00:07:21.37 Yes, yes, I recognize, Christine brought me 00:07:21.40\00:07:22.74 as she was at the time 00:07:22.77\00:07:24.11 and then Lord let us together in ministry 00:07:24.14\00:07:25.61 and uniting our lives, and then we have two children. 00:07:25.64\00:07:28.38 She is able to stay home with them and educate them. 00:07:28.41\00:07:30.95 So that's a blessing. 00:07:30.98\00:07:32.31 Amen. That's an incredible blessing. 00:07:32.35\00:07:34.35 So tell me you have a work-study program 00:07:34.38\00:07:37.52 and we will get into more of the vocational aspect. 00:07:37.55\00:07:40.19 But this segment 00:07:40.22\00:07:41.56 especially we're talking about the academics. 00:07:41.59\00:07:43.89 Academics is important for any education. 00:07:43.93\00:07:46.86 So tell me about the National Merit Scholarship 00:07:46.90\00:07:50.93 and what goes on with that? 00:07:50.97\00:07:52.37 Yes, well, you know, our academic program 00:07:52.40\00:07:55.14 is a strong academic program, 00:07:55.17\00:07:57.41 students are well prepared for college. 00:07:57.44\00:07:59.74 We believe that true education 00:07:59.77\00:08:01.68 really has more than just vocational 00:08:01.71\00:08:04.65 and the religious part although that's the primary, 00:08:04.68\00:08:06.98 you know, purpose of it. 00:08:07.02\00:08:08.48 But in reality that shouldn't take away 00:08:08.52\00:08:11.55 from the academic parts 00:08:11.59\00:08:13.12 which we are told should be a high standard. 00:08:13.15\00:08:16.02 And, you know, over the years 00:08:16.06\00:08:17.69 we have seen consistent ACT scores 00:08:17.73\00:08:22.73 that have been much higher than the national average 00:08:22.76\00:08:26.90 and then higher than our local state average 00:08:26.94\00:08:29.44 and any state in the union. 00:08:29.47\00:08:31.14 You have the graph there 00:08:31.17\00:08:32.51 and this shows your students against... 00:08:32.54\00:08:34.34 Against the national average 00:08:34.38\00:08:35.71 and our state local average as well, 00:08:35.74\00:08:38.25 and it has been that way consistently for 5-10 years, 00:08:38.28\00:08:42.85 for many years actually. 00:08:42.88\00:08:44.75 Just I think a testament really not to necessarily, 00:08:44.79\00:08:49.06 you know, academics here but God's plan for education. 00:08:49.09\00:08:52.66 That when you follow the holistic plan 00:08:52.69\00:08:54.80 more than just the academics, 00:08:54.83\00:08:56.56 then it all comes together and God blesses in ways that... 00:08:56.60\00:09:01.04 Because the students don't have much time 00:09:01.07\00:09:02.60 and they have the vocational program 00:09:02.64\00:09:04.01 and so forth for the academics, 00:09:04.04\00:09:05.37 but all together it really comes together 00:09:05.41\00:09:08.41 in a solid academic program. 00:09:08.44\00:09:10.85 So I was going to ask too, what do you attribute 00:09:10.88\00:09:12.88 the success of the students academically 00:09:12.91\00:09:14.58 and you see it as just a blessing of God 00:09:14.62\00:09:17.55 because of the holistic approach? 00:09:17.59\00:09:19.95 Yes, true education is really the harmonious development 00:09:19.99\00:09:23.43 of the physical, the mental, and the spiritual, 00:09:23.46\00:09:25.96 and when you have the package, they all grow together. 00:09:25.99\00:09:29.60 You know, we're told that as we develop the intellectual, 00:09:29.63\00:09:34.04 the spiritual capabilities, 00:09:34.07\00:09:35.40 the intellectual capacity will increase, 00:09:35.44\00:09:37.57 and that's really what we see happened in the young people 00:09:37.61\00:09:41.04 as they focus not only on the spiritual and vocational 00:09:41.08\00:09:44.21 but apply themselves for the academics... 00:09:44.25\00:09:46.05 Amen. 00:09:46.08\00:09:47.42 Ready for success. Praise the Lord. 00:09:47.45\00:09:48.92 It's really neat 'cause I think it's a great plan, 00:09:48.95\00:09:50.65 you know, and it's God's plan too I feel, 00:09:50.69\00:09:52.79 you know, to have a well balanced education. 00:09:52.82\00:09:55.42 So I know we're talking about the different segments 00:09:55.46\00:09:57.26 and time is getting away from us in a hurry. 00:09:57.29\00:09:59.06 So we're going to prepare now for the next segment. 00:09:59.09\00:10:01.30 Please stay with us. 00:10:01.33\00:10:03.13 What a beautiful school 00:10:03.16\00:10:05.03 and what beautiful people working there at the school. 00:10:05.07\00:10:08.20 In this particular segment, 00:10:08.24\00:10:09.74 Greg and Jill talk again with Harriet Clark. 00:10:09.77\00:10:12.81 She's going to be joined by Deborah Kim and Marcus Bardan. 00:10:12.84\00:10:17.85 They're going to be talking about the vocational training 00:10:17.88\00:10:21.28 and God's plan at the academy working with the hands. 00:10:21.32\00:10:25.55 You know, what's God's original plan 00:10:25.59\00:10:27.26 that students spend some day in class, 00:10:27.29\00:10:29.86 then spend some part of the day 00:10:29.89\00:10:31.56 also working with their hands and learning skills. 00:10:31.59\00:10:34.33 And this idea is deep into the mindset 00:10:34.36\00:10:37.83 of those at Ouachita Hills. 00:10:37.87\00:10:39.83 Greg and Jill, Harriet Clark, Deborah Kim, Marcus Bardan. 00:10:39.87\00:10:44.77 We're sitting here around the campus 00:10:44.81\00:10:46.78 of Ouachita Hills Academy and College. 00:10:46.81\00:10:48.84 Mrs. Harriet Clark and we just switched chairs a little bit. 00:10:48.88\00:10:52.75 We had Mr. Rob Neall 00:10:52.78\00:10:54.32 and he went to go preparing a little bit. 00:10:54.35\00:10:56.72 We're going to hear the bell choir, 00:10:56.75\00:10:58.29 so I'm looking forward to that. Yes. 00:16:05.23\00:16:06.56 We're really excited about that. 00:16:06.59\00:16:07.93 Okay. 00:16:07.96\00:16:09.30 That's always a need, 00:16:09.33\00:16:10.67 you know, I mean, you have staff 00:16:10.70\00:16:12.03 'cause you have students, 00:16:12.07\00:16:13.40 so then you need a place for the staff to live so. 00:16:13.44\00:16:15.50 Right now about half of our staff are in Amity 00:16:15.54\00:16:19.31 and it's only five miles 00:16:19.34\00:16:20.98 but still it's not nearly as convenient 00:16:21.01\00:16:23.04 as being right here on campus so. 00:16:23.08\00:16:24.98 Oh, yeah. 00:16:25.01\00:16:26.35 And it's such a beautiful setting. 00:16:26.38\00:16:27.72 So tell us, I know we talked with Mr. Neall 00:16:27.75\00:16:29.08 about the academic program, the academic structure. 00:16:29.12\00:16:31.85 But, Mrs. Clark, what's the importance 00:16:31.89\00:16:34.02 of the vocational training 00:16:34.06\00:16:36.02 coupling that with the academics? 00:16:36.06\00:16:37.99 God's plan for education was to combine the two, 00:16:38.03\00:16:41.66 both the didactic learning, classroom learning, 00:16:41.70\00:16:45.23 and hands on learning. 00:16:45.27\00:16:47.44 And we know from experience that having a combination 00:16:47.47\00:16:52.31 help students learn better 00:16:52.34\00:16:54.91 when they are in the classroom and when they're studying 00:16:54.94\00:16:57.31 for their regular classroom test and all. 00:16:57.35\00:17:00.62 But it also helps them develop skills 00:17:00.65\00:17:03.42 that they wouldn't develop otherwise 00:17:03.45\00:17:05.19 and a very good work ethic, 00:17:05.22\00:17:07.16 and those are things that are helpful to you 00:17:07.19\00:17:09.66 regardless of what your profession is. 00:17:09.69\00:17:12.06 Yeah. Very true. 00:17:12.09\00:17:13.43 It's important to know how to work to succeed in life. 00:17:13.46\00:17:15.86 And no matter what profession, 00:17:15.90\00:17:17.23 no matter what God calls you to do, 00:17:17.27\00:17:18.63 and I know you're training students for service, 00:17:18.67\00:17:20.57 but you need to know 00:17:20.60\00:17:21.94 how to do those practical common sense life skills. 00:17:21.97\00:17:25.04 Right. That's very important. 00:17:25.07\00:17:27.61 Yeah, so I know, Deborah, that you're involved 00:17:27.64\00:17:29.61 with literature evangelism as well 00:17:29.64\00:17:31.21 as I think all students are required to do, is that? 00:17:31.25\00:17:33.42 Do all students do something? 00:17:33.45\00:17:34.78 Not in the academy, in the college. 00:17:34.82\00:17:36.15 In the college they do, okay. 00:17:36.18\00:17:37.55 So you've been involved with literature evangelism? 00:17:37.59\00:17:39.45 Yes, a couple of years ago 00:17:39.49\00:17:41.39 they offered literature evangelism for every Sundays. 00:17:41.42\00:17:43.76 Students would go out and canvas for eight hours. 00:17:43.79\00:17:47.00 And so they offer that again this year, 00:17:47.03\00:17:49.63 and so I think there are seven students 00:17:49.66\00:17:51.63 who go out every Sunday into different local towns 00:17:51.67\00:17:55.37 and there they do literature evangelism canvassing. 00:17:55.40\00:17:58.47 Do you enjoy that? 00:17:58.51\00:17:59.84 Yes, I do. 00:17:59.87\00:18:01.34 You know what I think the neat thing 00:18:01.38\00:18:02.71 of doing literature evangelism, 00:18:02.74\00:18:04.08 which is religious books, 00:18:04.11\00:18:05.45 you know, door-to-door 00:18:05.48\00:18:06.82 is that you're spreading God's word 00:18:06.85\00:18:08.18 and you don't know 00:18:08.22\00:18:09.55 where that seed is going to come to life 00:18:09.58\00:18:10.92 and a soul would be win for the kingdom. 00:18:10.95\00:18:12.29 Isn't that neat? Yes, yes. 00:18:12.32\00:18:13.66 That really is. That's incredible. 00:18:13.69\00:18:15.02 For sure. 00:18:15.06\00:18:16.39 We thank you, Marcus, 00:18:16.42\00:18:17.76 for sharing with our 3ABN family at home 00:18:17.79\00:18:19.83 and we just pray God's blessings over you 00:18:19.86\00:18:21.80 and your future life. 00:18:21.83\00:18:23.53 What do you want to do next year? 00:18:23.57\00:18:24.90 You're senior, you're graduating, 00:18:24.93\00:18:26.27 so what's your plans? 00:18:26.30\00:18:27.64 I'm planning to go to Andrews University. 00:18:27.67\00:18:29.00 Nice. Okay. 00:22:27.04\00:22:29.04 And then chorale would be more elite or more special. 00:22:29.08\00:22:31.65 Yes, we have to apply an audition as well. 00:22:31.68\00:22:36.38 Okay. 00:22:36.42\00:22:38.05 So you travel you were saying? 00:22:38.09\00:22:39.45 Yes, so we travel to different states. 00:22:39.49\00:22:42.42 We've been to Oklahoma, to Michigan, 00:22:42.46\00:22:46.80 to Arkansas, of course, and Louisiana, yeah, 00:22:46.83\00:22:53.03 and so I really enjoyed traveling. 00:22:53.07\00:22:55.20 I love singing 00:22:55.24\00:22:57.67 and I really enjoy 00:22:57.71\00:23:00.58 like ministering to people through music. 00:23:00.61\00:23:02.34 I've seen people even in tears sometimes 00:23:02.38\00:23:04.88 by the ministry of music, it really does open doors. 00:23:04.91\00:23:10.52 Yeah, it touches people's lives 00:23:10.55\00:23:11.89 I believe in a very special way. 00:23:11.92\00:23:13.25 Yeah, it sure does. 00:23:13.29\00:23:15.02 So, Jonathan, what aspect of music 00:23:15.06\00:23:17.99 are you involved with here at the academy? 00:23:18.03\00:23:19.63 So I'm in the other option which is bells. 00:23:19.66\00:23:24.40 Oh, that sounds like fun. 00:23:24.43\00:23:25.77 Yeah, it is pretty fun. 00:23:25.80\00:23:27.27 We have thirteen members this year, 00:23:27.30\00:23:29.57 six girls, seven guys 00:23:29.60\00:23:32.81 and we have five octaves of bells, 00:23:32.84\00:23:37.08 four octaves of chimes. 00:23:37.11\00:23:40.42 We travel a lot also, 00:23:40.45\00:23:42.38 same touring schedule as small choir. 00:23:42.42\00:23:45.65 This year we've been to... 00:23:45.69\00:23:47.02 Besides in Arkansas, we've been to Texas and also Tennessee so. 00:23:47.06\00:23:53.46 And in all the years of bell choir 00:23:53.50\00:23:54.83 they've gone to like 13 states. 00:23:54.86\00:23:56.63 Wow. Okay. Yeah. 00:23:56.67\00:23:58.63 So you obviously enjoy it. 00:23:58.67\00:24:00.00 Yes, I do enjoy it. Yeah, that's great. 00:24:00.04\00:24:01.64 It is quite a ministry, isn't it? It is. 00:24:01.67\00:24:03.30 To be able to, I mean, I know when you actually 00:24:03.34\00:24:05.21 you're playing the music 00:24:05.24\00:24:06.57 but then also do you do a little testimonies 00:24:06.61\00:24:08.24 or something in between the songs? 00:24:08.28\00:24:09.61 Yes, yes, we have introductions. 00:24:09.64\00:24:10.98 You have introductions. Yeah. 00:24:11.01\00:24:12.35 You can bring those nice spiritual thoughts and nuggets. 00:24:12.38\00:24:15.05 So you do the bell choir, 00:24:15.08\00:24:16.42 how many strings in the ensemble 00:24:16.45\00:24:18.32 or what's the ensemble like? 00:24:18.35\00:24:20.12 Well, we have ten people in the string ensemble, 00:24:20.16\00:24:24.16 we're kind of limited to traveling 00:24:24.19\00:24:26.13 because we're all in different groups 00:24:26.16\00:24:28.10 but we muster to play for like special musics, 00:24:28.13\00:24:31.33 also at the Christmas program so. 00:24:31.37\00:24:33.87 That's wonderful. So, Stephanie, why is that... 00:24:33.90\00:24:35.50 Why do you feel that music is, 00:24:35.54\00:24:36.87 obviously, you came all the way from Australia to here 00:24:36.91\00:24:39.31 to lead out in the music? 00:24:39.34\00:24:40.88 What was your position, 00:24:40.91\00:24:42.24 you're in charge of the music for the academy? 00:24:42.28\00:24:45.11 That's right. The director. 00:24:45.15\00:24:46.48 So I know then you have a burden 00:24:46.51\00:24:47.92 and a passion for music, obviously, 00:24:47.95\00:24:50.02 but then to instill the musical skills and abilities 00:24:50.05\00:24:53.05 in these young people. 00:24:53.09\00:24:54.69 Yes, I'm really excited about music ministry 00:24:54.72\00:25:00.00 as a way of reaching people, 00:25:00.03\00:25:01.50 sometimes in places and ways that a preacher couldn't go, 00:25:01.53\00:25:05.70 or the spoken word couldn't go. 00:25:05.73\00:25:08.34 And so it's very exciting 00:25:08.37\00:25:09.77 to work with these young people, 00:25:09.80\00:25:11.24 to train them, 00:25:11.27\00:25:12.87 to develop their full potential as musicians 00:25:12.91\00:25:16.71 and then to go out and use that to bless others 00:25:16.75\00:25:19.31 and share the gospel with people 00:25:19.35\00:25:21.58 who often open their hearts to music. 00:25:21.62\00:25:24.82 Amen. Amen. 00:25:24.85\00:25:26.65 And I think where the key word is ministry, 00:25:26.69\00:25:28.89 you know, because music is just kind of a general thing, 00:25:28.92\00:25:30.89 but when you're talking about ministry, that's neat. 00:25:30.93\00:25:33.23 It really is, because music is a ministry. 00:25:33.26\00:25:35.26 And I think it's really neat here for us at the academy, 00:25:35.30\00:25:37.20 there are so many different aspects, 00:25:37.23\00:25:38.57 have you noticed that? Mm-hmm. 00:25:38.60\00:25:39.93 That when we talk about this, 00:25:39.97\00:25:41.30 they say a ministry, ministry, ministry 00:25:41.34\00:25:43.04 and that's great because it's evangelism. 00:25:43.07\00:25:44.91 And how do you keep ministry focused? 00:25:44.94\00:25:46.57 Because sometimes in music 00:25:46.61\00:25:47.94 it could go performance focused or performance based. 00:25:47.98\00:25:51.18 So how do you keep with the young people, 00:25:51.21\00:25:52.61 the ministry aspect of music? 00:25:52.65\00:25:55.95 In the song selection that we choose, 00:25:55.98\00:25:58.65 we carefully select those to portray the values 00:25:58.69\00:26:03.53 and the messages that we are hoping to give. 00:26:03.56\00:26:05.46 So the chorale has just been taking a program on the road 00:26:05.49\00:26:08.30 that goes through the plan of salvation 00:26:08.33\00:26:10.77 and the life of Jesus, 00:26:10.80\00:26:12.13 which has been a real blessing to us to do that. 00:26:12.17\00:26:17.01 Also the students share in the program 00:26:17.04\00:26:20.44 so as mentioned they'll introduce the songs 00:26:20.48\00:26:22.74 usually with a three to five minute presentation, 00:26:22.78\00:26:26.61 sharing some of their thoughts and their experiences 00:26:26.65\00:26:30.19 and how the message in the song relates to them personally. 00:26:30.22\00:26:35.86 And that's something that is a blessing for us. 00:26:35.89\00:26:39.66 So, Bethany and Jonathan, just if you could say... 00:26:39.69\00:26:42.76 I know we're going to some music now 00:26:42.80\00:26:44.60 because we prerecorded you all doing some music. 00:26:44.63\00:26:47.50 So we're going to go to that in just a moment. 00:26:47.54\00:26:49.14 But how has been in the music program, 00:26:49.17\00:26:51.27 how has it impacted your life? 00:26:51.31\00:26:53.34 Has it made a difference or a change in your life? 00:26:53.38\00:26:55.51 How has it impacted your life? 00:26:55.54\00:26:59.71 I really enjoy singing like I already said, 00:26:59.75\00:27:01.68 and so as I share through singing, 00:27:01.72\00:27:05.19 it helps me grow in my relationship with Christ, 00:27:05.22\00:27:08.32 and when I see people that have been touched by our singing 00:27:08.36\00:27:11.39 and by our ministry with them, 00:27:11.43\00:27:12.76 we mingle with them, 00:27:12.79\00:27:14.13 and we talk to them, make friends with them. 00:27:14.16\00:27:17.63 And it just shows me how Jesus ministered to people, 00:27:17.67\00:27:21.40 He mingled with them wanting their best, good, 00:27:21.44\00:27:24.47 and it helps me to draw closer to the one I'm serving. 00:27:24.51\00:27:28.74 Amen. 00:27:28.78\00:27:30.11 Jonathan? 00:27:30.15\00:27:31.48 Well, Mr. Neall really stresses 00:27:31.51\00:27:32.88 the importance of reaching out to people 00:27:32.91\00:27:36.18 over the performance itself, 00:27:36.22\00:27:38.32 so it's really taught me like how to connect with people, 00:27:38.35\00:27:42.92 how to talk to them, how to reach out to them, 00:27:42.96\00:27:45.76 so through music as a gateway 00:27:45.79\00:27:49.60 and then you can really reach them so. 00:27:49.63\00:27:51.40 Amen. Yeah. 00:37:16.63\00:37:19.77 And one story, if you don't mind. 00:37:19.80\00:37:22.34 Please. 00:37:22.37\00:37:23.71 In Cuba, I was the preacher for the evangelistic series 00:37:23.74\00:37:26.91 and I was on the site. 00:37:26.94\00:37:28.28 I was gonna ask you what you did? 00:37:28.31\00:37:29.64 You were the preacher. Okay. 00:37:29.68\00:37:31.01 Yeah, and four or five times, 00:37:31.05\00:37:34.62 five minutes before I set up to speak, 00:37:34.65\00:37:37.05 something would happen, I'd get a bad stomach ache, 00:37:37.09\00:37:39.15 I'd have random pain in my side, 00:37:39.19\00:37:40.99 I'd get back pain, lightheaded. 00:37:41.02\00:37:43.53 It would last for the duration of the meeting. 00:37:43.56\00:37:45.93 And as soon as I step down, it will go away. 00:37:45.96\00:37:49.73 The first time you can say, "Oh, it's just bad plantains." 00:37:49.76\00:37:53.40 Right? 00:37:53.44\00:37:55.94 A little food poisoning. 00:37:55.97\00:37:58.17 But when it happens time after time after time, 00:37:58.21\00:38:01.44 you see clearly that there's something bigger going on, 00:38:01.48\00:38:05.01 and that awareness has been valuable for me. 00:38:05.05\00:38:08.08 You know, that's when one realizes 00:38:08.12\00:38:09.58 that it's nothing of ourselves, 00:38:09.62\00:38:11.05 you know, that's God 00:38:11.09\00:38:12.42 that's pouring the strength through you, 00:38:12.45\00:38:13.79 you guys are vessels. 00:38:13.82\00:38:15.16 Isn't that neat that God is using to further His cause. 00:38:15.19\00:38:17.99 Amen. What a blessing. 00:38:18.03\00:38:19.36 Does that mean you want to go into the theology? 00:38:19.39\00:38:21.76 I am considering it. 00:38:21.80\00:38:24.00 I'm seeing where the Lord's gonna lead me 00:38:24.03\00:38:25.50 but no matter what I study 00:38:25.53\00:38:27.54 I will have a focus on theology 00:38:27.57\00:38:29.80 just to God given answer for the faith I have. 00:38:29.84\00:38:32.17 Amen. What about you, Zach? What do you wanna do? 00:38:32.21\00:38:34.01 Me, right now I'm training 00:38:34.04\00:38:35.38 to become a medical missionary in the future. 00:38:35.41\00:38:37.11 What field? I don't know what yet. 00:38:37.15\00:38:39.45 But regardless I'm going to hit this head on 00:38:39.48\00:38:42.58 and try my best in this field. 00:38:42.62\00:38:45.25 Fantastic. 00:38:45.29\00:38:46.62 So, Pastor Soler, you know, I'm thinking about the impact 00:38:46.65\00:38:48.69 that you make worldwide 00:38:48.72\00:38:50.73 and but also locally too. 00:38:50.76\00:38:52.49 You know, even there are own home field 00:38:52.53\00:38:54.40 which is Arkansas, for you guys, 00:38:54.43\00:38:55.76 3ABN it's Illinois. 00:38:55.80\00:38:57.60 So tell me about the... 00:38:57.63\00:39:00.14 Do you consider this mission work here too 00:39:00.17\00:39:01.77 in your local community as well, 00:39:01.80\00:39:03.41 outreach and things that you do here? 00:39:03.44\00:39:05.34 Outreach is really so important 00:39:05.37\00:39:08.71 in the training of our students, you know. 00:39:08.74\00:39:11.61 I could say that this is true 00:39:11.65\00:39:13.01 what I'm going to tell you about our mission program 00:39:13.05\00:39:14.98 is true of our whole school. 00:39:15.02\00:39:16.58 And that we are interested in giving our students 00:39:16.62\00:39:21.16 a practical experience. 00:39:21.19\00:39:23.99 For them to practice the skills that they're learning here, 00:39:24.03\00:39:26.06 public speaking, outreach, 00:39:26.09\00:39:28.03 medical missionary work, etcetera. 00:39:28.06\00:39:31.10 On top of that, then we want them 00:39:31.13\00:39:32.73 to experience God personally. 00:39:32.77\00:39:36.57 In the mission field, of course, 00:39:36.60\00:39:37.94 they have a very raw unscripted opportunity, 00:39:37.97\00:39:41.28 here things are a little bit more managed 00:39:41.31\00:39:43.41 but still each time it's them and God 00:39:43.45\00:39:46.51 sharing Christ love with those around them. 00:39:46.55\00:39:50.09 And here locally we do, 00:39:50.12\00:39:52.15 we want them to share Christ with each other, 00:39:52.19\00:39:54.59 with the local churches that we serve. 00:39:54.62\00:39:56.76 This is probably more true with our college program 00:39:56.79\00:40:00.16 where they're spread all over the churches in the area. 00:40:00.20\00:40:02.46 But our academy students, of course, 00:40:02.50\00:40:05.03 go to different churches to put on programs. 00:40:05.07\00:40:08.10 And we're going to do some other things too 00:40:08.14\00:40:09.64 I believe in the future where we want 00:40:09.67\00:40:11.57 maybe impact some of the local public schools. 00:40:11.61\00:40:14.44 Amen. 00:40:14.48\00:40:15.81 We want to see ways that we can have our students 00:40:15.84\00:40:17.18 do that as well. 00:40:17.21\00:40:18.55 Amen. Thank you so much. 00:40:18.58\00:40:19.91 Thank you for your ministry for... 00:40:19.95\00:40:22.62 To me evangelism is the heartbeat of the gospel, 00:40:22.65\00:40:25.82 and if we're not changed ourselves, 00:40:25.85\00:40:27.66 how can we go out and share the gospel 00:40:27.69\00:40:29.82 with a lost and dying world. 00:40:29.86\00:40:31.19 So we just pray God's blessings over each one of you 00:40:31.23\00:40:33.66 and your ministry here at Ouachita. 00:40:33.70\00:40:35.06 Thank you. Thank you. 00:40:35.10\00:40:36.43 Thank you so much. 00:40:36.46\00:40:38.50 As you can see the students 00:40:38.53\00:40:40.37 at Ouachita Hills Academy travel 00:40:40.40\00:40:42.84 and minister all over the United States 00:40:42.87\00:40:45.27 and to other parts of the world. 00:40:45.31\00:40:46.98 But one of the challenges you have 00:40:47.01\00:40:48.68 when you have a ministry that travel so far 00:40:48.71\00:40:50.88 and does so very much around the world as 3ABN 00:40:50.91\00:40:54.45 has the same challenge is to try to keep a face 00:40:54.48\00:40:57.99 in the local community. 00:40:58.02\00:40:59.35 To try to minister to do outreach 00:40:59.39\00:41:01.72 in the local community and this is a challenge 00:41:01.76\00:41:05.19 that Ouachita Hills chooses to address and to face, 00:41:05.23\00:41:08.26 so there is local community outreach 00:41:08.30\00:41:10.77 that takes place there also 00:41:10.80\00:41:12.83 as we do in the local West Frankfort, 00:41:12.87\00:41:14.80 Thompsonville community. 00:41:14.84\00:41:16.24 It is good to have an international face 00:41:16.27\00:41:19.31 and to do work around the world, 00:41:19.34\00:41:21.04 but it is also good to have a face 00:41:21.08\00:41:23.65 to plant your flag for Jesus in the local community, 00:41:23.68\00:41:26.55 and so Ouachita Hills chooses to do that. 00:41:26.58\00:41:29.85 Jill and Greg had a chance 00:41:29.88\00:41:31.22 to talk again with Harriet Clark, 00:41:31.25\00:41:32.79 Deborah Kim, Jesse is with them also 00:41:32.82\00:41:36.66 talking about outreach in the local community. 00:41:36.69\00:41:40.96 We're back here for another segment 00:41:41.00\00:41:42.33 here at Ouachita Hills Academy. 00:41:42.36\00:41:43.70 You know, we're just talking about the academy's mission 00:41:43.73\00:41:47.54 and what they do around the world. 00:41:47.57\00:41:49.20 But we also have the local community outreach, 00:41:49.24\00:41:52.31 we're gonna talk about that in this segment, 00:41:52.34\00:41:54.01 and also maybe what they do for fun here at the academy. 00:41:54.04\00:41:57.05 You mean they do fun? 00:41:57.08\00:41:58.41 Of course, I know they do fun. 00:41:58.45\00:41:59.78 They do fun. 00:41:59.81\00:42:01.15 We brought Mrs. Clark back, it's not just academics 00:42:01.18\00:42:04.32 and outreach and all that, they do fun too. 00:42:04.35\00:42:07.36 Some time for recreation too. 00:42:07.39\00:42:08.86 So we're gonna talk about that here in this segment. 00:42:08.89\00:42:11.03 So we've brought Deborah back. 00:42:11.06\00:42:13.16 Hi. It's good to have you back. 00:42:13.19\00:42:14.70 So tell us about, I know you want to talk about 00:42:14.73\00:42:16.20 the aspect of the local outreach 00:42:16.23\00:42:17.93 here in the community, what all takes place here? 00:42:17.97\00:42:20.47 Yes, on Sabbath afternoons we have different activities 00:42:20.50\00:42:23.94 that we do to keep us busy, 00:42:23.97\00:42:25.97 and to make Sabbath a nice recreational, 00:42:26.01\00:42:29.51 you know, a happy time, yeah. 00:42:29.54\00:42:30.88 A delight, yes. Sabbath a delight. 00:42:30.91\00:42:32.48 Yeah, and some of the things we do, 00:42:32.51\00:42:33.88 we do literature distribution so well, 00:42:33.92\00:42:36.82 those students get split up into different groups 00:42:36.85\00:42:39.19 and each group is given a certain amount of glow tracks 00:42:39.22\00:42:42.99 or sometimes we'll do, 00:42:43.02\00:42:44.36 we'll advertise evangelistic series 00:42:44.39\00:42:46.93 or we had a health expo this past year 00:42:46.96\00:42:49.20 and we advertise that as well. 00:42:49.23\00:42:50.57 And then we'll have those out 00:42:50.60\00:42:51.93 to the community to the local towns. 00:42:51.97\00:42:54.10 So like flyers and things you pass out in the church. 00:42:54.14\00:42:55.64 Yes. Okay. It's great, Yes. 00:42:55.67\00:42:57.01 So that's about the things we do. 00:42:57.04\00:42:58.37 We also do sunshine dance, 00:42:58.41\00:43:00.28 we go and sing to shut-ins 00:43:00.31\00:43:02.44 or people who just can't get out, lonely people. 00:43:02.48\00:43:05.45 We like to sing to them on Sabbath 00:43:05.48\00:43:07.32 and we also go to the nursing home 00:43:07.35\00:43:09.75 and we'll sometimes we'll sing in the people's rooms 00:43:09.78\00:43:13.05 or we'll go in the general area like in the eating area, 00:43:13.09\00:43:16.76 and we'll sing to the people that are there, 00:43:16.79\00:43:18.79 and give them a program. 00:43:18.83\00:43:20.30 You know, you're telling us a really incredible story 00:43:20.33\00:43:22.30 about a lady. 00:43:22.33\00:43:23.67 So can you just tell us a story real quick? 00:43:23.70\00:43:25.20 Sure. So that happened on community service day. 00:43:25.23\00:43:27.20 Okay. 00:43:27.24\00:43:28.57 We usually have two community service days each year, 00:43:28.60\00:43:30.84 and so this time I went with two other girls 00:43:30.87\00:43:34.34 and one of the staff members. 00:43:34.38\00:43:35.81 And she is about 94 years old, 00:43:35.84\00:43:38.08 she said she's turning 95 in June. 00:43:38.11\00:43:39.45 Ninety four years young. 00:43:39.48\00:43:41.85 Yeah. 00:43:41.88\00:43:43.22 So she gets around, she can walk pretty well, 00:43:43.25\00:43:45.05 but you can tell like 00:43:45.09\00:43:46.42 she just doesn't have a lot of energy. 00:43:46.45\00:43:47.99 And she also has bad eyesight 00:43:48.02\00:43:49.82 and it's kind of hard for her to get around and clean herself 00:43:49.86\00:43:53.09 and so we walked in and I first... 00:43:53.13\00:43:55.60 It looked, it looked, okay, 00:43:55.63\00:43:57.63 and then we decided to tackle the kitchen. 00:43:57.67\00:44:00.37 And we were opening cabinets 00:44:00.40\00:44:01.80 and there were cockroaches everywhere. 00:44:01.84\00:44:04.71 There are cockroaches everywhere. 00:44:04.74\00:44:06.17 And we also found a few dead mice 00:44:06.21\00:44:08.34 and so we had to clean those up and... 00:44:08.38\00:44:11.35 So she needed help. 00:44:11.38\00:44:12.71 She needed a lot of help. 00:44:12.75\00:44:14.08 She can't do it herself, her closest family members 00:44:14.12\00:44:16.82 are like Little Rock so that's almost two hours away 00:44:16.85\00:44:20.29 and two of her three children have already passed away 00:44:20.32\00:44:23.46 and so she is pretty lonely. 00:44:23.49\00:44:24.83 She even sleeps in her living room 00:44:24.86\00:44:26.19 instead of in her bed 00:44:26.23\00:44:27.56 so that if anyone calls during the night 00:44:27.60\00:44:29.93 she could answer the phone. 00:44:29.96\00:44:31.67 And so you could just tell that 00:44:31.70\00:44:33.03 she's living a very lonely life. 00:44:33.07\00:44:35.07 And so we got to, we got to spend 00:44:35.10\00:44:36.44 that whole day with her. 00:44:36.47\00:44:37.81 Usually community service is only in the mornings, 00:44:37.84\00:44:39.77 but we were able to convince our supervisors 00:44:39.81\00:44:42.84 to let her stay for the afternoon 00:44:42.88\00:44:44.51 and finish up some laundry and we swept and mopped. 00:44:44.55\00:44:47.78 And one of the girls that went with us 00:44:47.82\00:44:49.65 noticed that her fingernails and her toenails 00:44:49.68\00:44:51.99 had grown really long 00:44:52.02\00:44:53.56 and she hadn't cut them herself 00:44:53.59\00:44:55.32 and especially her toenails are very long. 00:44:55.36\00:44:57.19 So we soaked her feet and we clipped her nails. 00:44:57.23\00:45:00.46 Miss Sherry 00:45:00.50\00:45:01.83 was the staff member who went with us 00:45:01.86\00:45:03.47 and so we went to the Dollar general store 00:45:03.50\00:45:05.73 and we bought stuff like nail clippers and like a pan, 00:45:05.77\00:45:11.81 thingy, basins so that we could soak her feet 00:45:11.84\00:45:15.11 and clip her toe nails and so. 00:45:15.14\00:45:17.65 She really appreciated it. That's really neat. 00:45:17.68\00:45:19.01 You know, it's like the gospel in action, 00:45:19.05\00:45:20.38 you know, because Christ went around like 00:45:20.42\00:45:21.95 you were saying to serve others, 00:45:21.98\00:45:23.72 and I can just imagine the joy 00:45:23.75\00:45:25.12 that must have brought to this lady's heart 00:45:25.15\00:45:26.49 and just the loneliness so to have people in her house 00:45:26.52\00:45:29.42 and taking care of her needs too. 00:45:29.46\00:45:30.99 I was real proud of the students 00:45:31.03\00:45:32.83 that they wanted to continue, they wanted to finish, 00:45:32.86\00:45:35.33 and they weren't just totally appalled on conditions 00:45:35.36\00:45:39.43 and wanted to get out as soon as they could. 00:45:39.47\00:45:41.24 It's kind of going the extra mile. 00:45:41.27\00:45:43.30 It's a testimony to the type of students who come, 00:45:43.34\00:45:45.77 and the staff, and the leadership 00:45:45.81\00:45:48.08 who work to instill those godly principles in the young people. 00:45:48.11\00:45:50.78 That's wonderful. 00:45:50.81\00:45:52.15 And we want to know about fun, 00:45:52.18\00:45:54.02 what you all do for recreation, we have Jesse McDermott. 00:45:54.05\00:45:57.35 Yes. And what year are you here? 00:45:57.39\00:45:59.12 This year I'm a sophomore. It's your second year? 00:45:59.15\00:46:02.92 Yes, this is my second year here, yeah. 00:46:02.96\00:46:05.63 So for recreation some things we do. 00:46:05.66\00:46:08.30 We have at the beginning of the year, 00:46:08.33\00:46:09.90 we have camp out which is when the whole school, 00:46:09.93\00:46:13.47 we go and we go to a campground, 00:46:13.50\00:46:15.84 we camp for the weekend. 00:46:15.87\00:46:17.21 You mean, you pitch tents? Yeah, we pitch tents. 00:46:17.24\00:46:19.17 Wow. Build campfires? 00:46:19.21\00:46:20.54 Yes, we build campfires and pitch tents. 00:46:20.58\00:46:22.24 I like that. Roast things over the fire? 00:46:22.28\00:46:23.85 Yeah, I roasted a apple I think. 00:46:23.88\00:46:26.82 Roasted apple on the fire, never heard that. 00:46:26.85\00:46:28.78 It was interesting. 00:46:28.82\00:46:31.95 Then later in the year, we have... 00:46:31.99\00:46:35.32 well, towards the end of the year 00:46:35.36\00:46:36.69 actually we have backpacking. 00:46:36.73\00:46:38.19 That's really fun for the people 00:46:38.23\00:46:40.06 who don't want to go backpacking, 00:46:40.10\00:46:41.43 they go camping again. 00:46:41.46\00:46:42.80 But backpacking is real fun, 00:46:42.83\00:46:44.17 we drive to a location not too far 00:46:44.20\00:46:46.77 and we take our stuff, our backpacks, 00:46:46.80\00:46:49.47 we, the school gives us some backpacks 00:46:49.50\00:46:52.74 if we don't have one. 00:46:52.77\00:46:54.11 And we hike in about four miles I think 00:46:54.14\00:46:57.01 and we get there, 00:46:57.05\00:46:59.61 we pitch our tents and we build fires. 00:46:59.65\00:47:04.02 We hike in all our food and everything. 00:47:04.05\00:47:06.76 So we cook it while we're there over the weekend 00:47:06.79\00:47:09.12 and then we hike back out. 00:47:09.16\00:47:10.49 It's about total of nine miles so. 00:47:10.53\00:47:11.99 Wow. That's a lot of walking. 00:47:12.03\00:47:13.56 You know, one thing too I notice 00:47:13.60\00:47:14.93 in this part of Arkansas, 00:47:14.96\00:47:16.30 we're traveling to get here there seems to be 00:47:16.33\00:47:17.67 quite a bit of water like ponds and lakes and stuff, 00:47:17.70\00:47:20.50 can I ask, do you anything in the water 00:47:20.54\00:47:22.14 like maybe canoeing or...? 00:47:22.17\00:47:23.61 Kayaking. Yeah. 00:47:23.64\00:47:24.97 We are gonna go on a canoe trip. 00:47:25.01\00:47:27.78 All right. Yeah. 00:47:27.81\00:47:29.14 We're down like Kettle River not too far 00:47:29.18\00:47:32.08 and we do that for work time is about four hours. 00:47:32.11\00:47:35.58 It's really fun. 00:47:35.62\00:47:36.95 We used to have one spot where we stop, 00:47:36.99\00:47:39.15 we go to swimming a little bit. 00:47:39.19\00:47:40.56 That's exciting. 00:47:40.59\00:47:41.92 I wish we could talk more about but we have one more segment, 00:47:41.96\00:47:44.39 so we thank you Jesse and Deborah 00:47:44.43\00:47:46.63 and we're gonna go to our last segment. 00:47:46.66\00:47:49.86 Community outreach is so very, very, important. 00:47:49.90\00:47:53.34 One of the greatest sources of PR for any institution, 00:47:53.37\00:47:58.94 for any endeavor are the people 00:47:58.97\00:48:01.68 who are involved in that institution. 00:48:01.71\00:48:03.55 Not only the staff, or the principal, 00:48:03.58\00:48:06.08 or the teachers, or the administration, 00:48:06.11\00:48:09.08 but perhaps most importantly the students. 00:48:09.12\00:48:12.55 The idea that several brothers and sisters 00:48:12.59\00:48:15.92 will attend a particular school 00:48:15.96\00:48:17.89 or that generations of students will attend, 00:48:17.93\00:48:21.13 a father and son and daughter, 00:48:21.16\00:48:23.00 or a mother and daughter and son, 00:48:23.03\00:48:25.53 going to the same school 00:48:25.57\00:48:27.00 speaks well for what that school is trying to accomplish 00:48:27.04\00:48:29.77 and what it's trying to do for, 00:48:29.80\00:48:31.87 with, to, and through its student body. 00:48:31.91\00:48:34.74 And so in this last segment, part number five, 00:48:34.78\00:48:38.05 Greg and Jill again speak with Harriet Clark 00:48:38.08\00:48:42.18 but we bring back Bethany and Zach. 00:48:42.22\00:48:44.75 These are two young people who attend the school, 00:48:44.79\00:48:47.49 who talk about what the school is doing for them. 00:48:47.52\00:48:50.03 Why they are at Ouachita Hills, 00:48:50.06\00:48:51.79 what Ouachita Hills is doing for them 00:48:51.83\00:48:54.06 and what they're seeking to do for the school? 00:48:54.10\00:48:56.46 This is very, very, important 00:48:56.50\00:48:57.90 because you want the students to buy in 00:48:57.93\00:49:01.07 to what the school is doing. 00:49:01.10\00:49:02.87 You want them to be a part of what the school is doing. 00:49:02.90\00:49:05.61 You want the school to be a blessing to its young people. 00:49:05.64\00:49:08.91 And Zach and Bethany bespeak that Ouachita Hills 00:49:08.94\00:49:12.98 is a blessing to them and is giving them direction, 00:49:13.01\00:49:16.45 and grace, and faith, and a spiritual experience 00:49:16.48\00:49:19.75 in their student life. 00:49:19.79\00:49:22.79 Hard to believe, we're on our last segment here. 00:49:24.26\00:49:26.66 I know, time has gone by quick. 00:49:26.70\00:49:28.56 It has indeed. 00:49:28.60\00:49:29.93 And we just want to talk in the last couple moments 00:49:29.96\00:49:31.97 about the impact OHA has made, Ouachita Hills Academy 00:49:32.00\00:49:35.34 on some of the lives of the students. 00:49:35.37\00:49:37.14 So we have of course, Mrs. Clark here. 00:49:37.17\00:49:39.04 But sitting next to you we have Bethany, 00:49:39.07\00:49:41.51 and tell me what you like about Ouachita Hills Academy? 00:49:41.54\00:49:45.51 I really enjoy the peaceful atmosphere here 00:49:45.55\00:49:48.52 and it's been conducive 00:49:48.55\00:49:50.09 to my spiritual, mental and physical growth. 00:49:50.12\00:49:53.25 And also, I've made many friends here 00:49:53.29\00:49:55.66 that I think will last me for my whole lifetime. 00:49:55.69\00:49:58.59 Amen.
