What was the impetus to
just really get this going?

Well, actually the
Lord arranged this.

We took... My wife and I
went down with some people

that we've been
invited into racial

and denomination group
of people to go to prison

because they
didn't have a speaker

and they asked me to come along.

And so by going
there, I took with me 200,

you know, bit of prophecy books,

Desire of Ages and so
forth, Steps to Christ,

and I handed them out.

And no idea that
we ever be going back,

but I asked a chaplain

could he use
some cassette tapes.

Well, at that time,

C.D. Brooks had
just finished a meeting

in Washington DC in 1979.

Those are beautiful
cassette tapes, you know,

and the chaplain say yes.

So about two weeks
later I took him the tapes.

In fact, I met
him on the highway

to give him the tape.

And he said, "Do you
have any more of those books?"

I said, "What books?"

He said, "Those
books of E.G. White."

wife and I took him a 1000,

fish with the hook.

So what I did before
we, when we saw the prison,

enrollment card in there

so they get some
free Bible lesson from,

of the organization

that we
affiliated with, you know.

And we put in
all the books there.

No, we never gonna see
these guys again, you know.

But so when we
got to the prison,

the chaplain had someone

to take the books
out of the car for us,

and he said, "Come on in
here and meet the officers."

We went in there and he said...

Met the warden
and the deputy warden.

He said, "This is

they're gonna start
a Bible class here."

But we looked at one
another, we had no idea,

that wasn't our plan.

So sure enough
about three weeks later,

we started a Bible class there.

And while we were there,

we met a young man who
walked up to us and said,

"Listen, I need me a daddy."

I looked at him like
this, "Pastor, what do you say?

I say, "I need me a Daddy".

You know, and so what happened,

he had been in
prison since he was 16

at that time, he's almost 24,

and he never had
anybody to write him a letter

or anything like that.

And so from there, my wife and I

started communicating
with him and visited him.

And today, believe it or not,
he's still in prison though,

they gave him
life, he's been there,

he just had his 60
birthday, a few weeks ago.

But he had been there
44 years, but you never...

years ago before he passed.

a person in all his life

that knew the Bible

But from that, we started out,

the chaplain who
invited us to prison,

the very first night...

Well, I said,

what the Bible says.

And I'm gonna give

That's right.

And so they asked
me some questions.

For example, "Is it
all right to eat pork?"

So I gave what
the Bible said. Right.

Then some other
people in the group asked me,

"What about
speaking in tongues?"

So I gave them
what the Bible said.

So at the end of
the meeting though,

a few guys said, "We
got the chaplain now."

I said, "What do you mean?"

They said, "The
chaplain is Pentecostal
00:15:31.49\00:15:32.99
and he eats pork and
he speaks in tongues."
00:15:33.03\00:15:34.60
I said, "Oh, man."

Well, he's the one
invites us there, you know.
00:15:36.00\00:15:39.07
So that Monday, I said,
"Lord, what we're gonna do?"

I know he's gonna
kick us out, you know.

And though I said, "Tell
him that you just want to meet

with about 10 men
every other week."

So you can meet them
and maybe help 10 people.

But the secret was this, I
can meet them, though I said,

the reason for it, real reason
you teach them what you know.

you out of prison,

years, they can carry on.

And in six months time,

lessons we were grading

because we told them
this that there's a law.

I said, "What law do
you think you all break
