What it is doing? 00:01:59.38\00:02:01.22 And what it continues to do for the cause of Christ? 00:02:01.25\00:02:03.85 My guests, one face you perhaps have seen here 00:02:03.89\00:02:06.59 for many, many years because he's been around a few years. 00:02:06.62\00:02:08.72 So I almost say old friend 00:02:08.76\00:02:10.13 because when you get to our age, 00:02:10.16\00:02:11.49 you don't say old friend, you say long time friend. 00:02:11.53\00:02:13.83 That's right. 00:02:13.86\00:02:15.56 Or a friend of long standing, when you get to the point 00:02:15.60\00:02:17.73 when you have no hair or grey hair, 00:02:17.77\00:02:19.47 it's just long time friend 00:02:19.50\00:02:21.17 or good friend or friend of long term. 00:02:21.20\00:02:22.87 This is G. Edward Reid. Oh! Thank you. 00:02:22.90\00:02:24.51 Edward, good to have you here. Glad to be seeing you today. 00:02:24.54\00:02:26.41 And Jeffrey Wilson by your side. 00:02:26.44\00:02:28.34 Both carry the title of assistant to the president 00:02:28.38\00:02:31.41 for Adventist World Radio. 00:02:31.45\00:02:32.91 And of course, the fairly, recently elected president 00:02:32.95\00:02:35.08 is our good friend Duane McKey. 00:02:35.12\00:02:36.48 That's true. 00:02:36.52\00:02:37.85 And he's doing a fine job, he's brought 00:02:37.89\00:02:39.22 a lot of energy and innovation to World Radio... 00:02:39.25\00:02:40.59 Amen. I'm excited about that too. 00:02:40.62\00:02:42.42 To the station, so we're very, very excited. 00:02:42.46\00:02:44.33 These men will walk us through 00:02:44.36\00:02:45.99 what Adventist World Radio is all about 00:02:46.03\00:02:48.16 and it is the ministry that is doing 00:02:48.20\00:02:50.50 great guns for the Lord. 00:02:50.53\00:02:51.87 You hear the Hope channels and you hear the 3ABNs 00:02:51.90\00:02:54.20 and you hear the other kinds of media ministries 00:02:54.24\00:02:57.17 and you maybe want to think that radio does not play 00:02:57.21\00:03:01.48 as important part as it once did. 00:03:01.51\00:03:03.68 But let me disabuse of you of that notion 00:03:03.71\00:03:06.28 because they will tell us that Adventist Radio is doing 00:03:06.31\00:03:08.78 great things for the Lord. 00:03:08.82\00:03:11.09 Sometimes you don't hear about that 00:03:11.12\00:03:12.45 but you will hear about it today, air, we're done, 00:03:12.49\00:03:14.79 and I'm sure you'll be excited to hear that. 00:03:14.82\00:03:17.09 Before we go to our music, guys, 00:03:17.13\00:03:18.46 I want to just get a little history from you. 00:03:18.49\00:03:20.76 Ed, where are you from originally? 00:03:20.80\00:03:22.40 I was born and raised in Northern California. 00:03:22.43\00:03:24.77 California guy. Yeah. 00:03:24.80\00:03:26.40 Adventist home? 00:03:26.43\00:03:27.77 Yeah, well, I'll tell you the Adventist World Radio 00:03:27.80\00:03:30.07 is interesting to me because it was radio Voice of Prophecy 00:03:30.11\00:03:33.24 actually brought my family into the Adventist church. 00:03:33.27\00:03:35.71 One of my first childhood memories 00:03:35.74\00:03:37.15 were seeing my parents baptized 00:03:37.18\00:03:38.51 when I was three years old. 00:03:38.55\00:03:39.88 Praise the Lord. 00:03:39.91\00:03:41.25 Essentially, I've been raised an Adventist, 00:03:41.28\00:03:42.62 but I saw my parents become members. 00:03:42.65\00:03:43.99 You remember that? You got that memory. 00:03:44.02\00:03:45.35 Oh, yes, indeed one of my early memories, 00:03:45.39\00:03:46.72 Klamath River, Northern California. 00:03:46.76\00:03:49.09 I know Klamath, that Klamath Falls, 00:03:49.12\00:03:50.66 Klamath area sure, sure. 00:03:50.69\00:03:53.56 It is one thing as you well know 00:03:53.60\00:03:55.40 to be baptized into the Adventist church 00:03:55.43\00:03:58.00 or an Adventist home 00:03:58.03\00:03:59.37 and have the accoutrements of Adventism all around you. 00:03:59.40\00:04:01.37 When did it become personal, one on one with you and Jesus? 00:04:01.40\00:04:04.71 Well, I was quite faithful as a young person. 00:04:04.74\00:04:07.98 But I can tell you that the year I graduated 00:04:08.01\00:04:09.81 from high school, I read the Bible 00:04:09.84\00:04:11.38 clear through that summer. 00:04:11.41\00:04:12.98 And I was about to decide whether I want to continue 00:04:13.01\00:04:15.38 being different from most people, 00:04:15.42\00:04:16.75 got worshipping on Sabbath or go along with the crowd. 00:04:16.79\00:04:19.65 And I read the Bible clear 00:04:19.69\00:04:21.02 through for my first time myself and I decided 00:04:21.06\00:04:23.43 not only to stay an Adventist but to become a minister. 00:04:23.46\00:04:26.59 I already had been accepted in college. 00:04:26.63\00:04:28.00 Now I've been gone to a pre-law program. 00:04:28.03\00:04:30.27 But I put off going to law school for 20 years 00:04:30.30\00:04:32.17 because I've first started in ministry. 00:04:32.20\00:04:33.84 Wow. 00:04:33.87\00:04:35.20 So you did finally fulfill that law? 00:04:35.24\00:04:36.57 Yeah, I did. 00:04:36.60\00:04:38.91 And I did not go into law practice 00:04:38.94\00:04:40.78 to get away from ministry 00:04:40.81\00:04:42.14 but I felt that since Martin Luther, 00:04:42.18\00:04:43.58 and John Calvin and John Wycliffe, 00:04:43.61\00:04:44.98 those reformers had all been trained in the law 00:04:45.01\00:04:46.88 that it might be valuable to my ministry for the Lord 00:04:46.92\00:04:49.18 and it has been. 00:04:49.22\00:04:50.55 Oh, praise the Lord. Praise God. 00:04:50.59\00:04:52.02 So you got your Theo and your Lord? 00:04:52.05\00:04:53.56 Yes. 00:04:53.59\00:04:54.92 Yeah, that's a handy set of degrees to have. 00:04:54.96\00:04:56.29 In the mean time, I went to Loma Linda 00:04:56.32\00:04:57.66 and I got a Master in Public Health, 00:04:57.69\00:04:59.03 so I'm interested in that as well. 00:04:59.06\00:05:00.40 All right. Amen and amen. 00:05:00.43\00:05:02.10 And you served in the church for how many years? 00:05:02.13\00:05:03.97 44 years. Full time, 44 years. 00:05:04.00\00:05:06.30 And the offices, all right, 00:05:06.33\00:05:07.67 because you left from North American Division, 00:05:07.70\00:05:09.04 I think when you retired? 00:05:09.07\00:05:10.41 Yes, then went to the General Conference 00:05:10.44\00:05:11.77 with Adventist World Radio. 00:05:11.81\00:05:13.14 But I was in the North American Division 00:05:13.17\00:05:15.01 for 21 years 00:05:15.04\00:05:16.48 teaching stewardship in money management. 00:05:16.51\00:05:18.31 For a short period of that time, three years, 00:05:18.35\00:05:20.12 I was also the executive secretary of ASI. 00:05:20.15\00:05:23.39 I'm not sure you're familiar with ASI. 00:05:23.42\00:05:25.02 You go and get those people at ASI, will you? 00:05:25.05\00:05:28.42 Of course, long as I can remember. 00:05:28.46\00:05:29.99 Yeah, ASI is a great friend of this ministry 00:05:30.03\00:05:32.33 and ministry we've carried on 3ABN for 00:05:32.36\00:05:35.73 I don't know how many years, almost since its inception. 00:05:35.76\00:05:37.27 Praise the Lord. 00:05:37.30\00:05:38.63 And we praise the Lord for that. 00:05:38.67\00:05:40.00 And, Jeffrey, same question. You're native of, born where? 00:05:40.04\00:05:42.30 Oh, I was born in San Francisco, California. 00:05:42.34\00:05:44.31 Now, both west coast guys. But I grew up in Arizona. 00:05:44.34\00:05:47.64 And Ed and I was just figuring this out this morning. 00:05:47.68\00:05:51.08 Ed and I met 60 years ago actually in the seventh grade 00:05:51.11\00:05:55.78 in Tempe Seventh-day Adventist Church School 00:05:55.82\00:05:59.42 and we graduated 59 years ago in 1958 and from that school. 00:05:59.45\00:06:03.49 And then we went separate ways but for last, oh, about, 00:06:03.53\00:06:09.33 well, last 11 years I guess before I retired in '10, 00:06:09.36\00:06:13.30 you retired in the fall of '10, I think. 00:06:13.34\00:06:14.67 Right. 00:06:14.70\00:06:16.04 I've retired at the General Conference session 00:06:16.07\00:06:17.51 in Atlanta in '10 and interestingly enough 00:06:17.54\00:06:21.41 since then we've been holding the same title. 00:06:21.44\00:06:23.38 Yes. 00:06:23.41\00:06:24.75 Not many people hold that, 00:06:24.78\00:06:26.11 but we live about a 100 miles apart in Eastern Tennessee, 00:06:26.15\00:06:30.22 but we cover various parts of the United States 00:06:30.25\00:06:33.15 basically for Adventist World Radio. 00:06:33.19\00:06:35.52 And similar to Ed, my parents came into the church 00:06:35.56\00:06:38.56 through the media, through Voice of Prophecy. 00:06:38.59\00:06:42.36 They were listening to H.M.S. Richards on the radio. 00:06:42.40\00:06:45.87 And he announced one day on the radio 00:06:45.90\00:06:49.37 that he was having evangelistic campaign, 00:06:49.40\00:06:52.11 a tabernacle meeting in Phoenix, Arizona, 00:06:52.14\00:06:54.88 that was in 1938. 00:06:54.91\00:06:57.51 And my parents droved down there, 00:06:57.55\00:06:59.11 drove around the building several times, should we go in? 00:06:59.15\00:07:01.42 Should we not go in? It was bright lighted building. 00:07:01.45\00:07:05.79 Finally, they decided to go in and they were hooked. 00:07:05.82\00:07:08.16 And so I was born a few years later, 00:07:08.19\00:07:10.09 but I attribute my being as a Christian 00:07:10.13\00:07:15.13 and the Seventh-day Adventist to the media. 00:07:15.16\00:07:17.20 And interestingly enough, you know, 00:07:17.23\00:07:19.23 H.M.S. Richards was a brilliant committed person 00:07:19.27\00:07:23.07 who saw media before anyone else, I think... 00:07:23.10\00:07:25.81 Very much so. Very much so. 00:07:25.84\00:07:27.31 Many in the church felt that was a sinful thing 00:07:27.34\00:07:30.18 to get on to radio. 00:07:30.21\00:07:31.98 And he, of course, went at that point, 00:07:32.01\00:07:35.05 AM radio, he went nationwide on it. 00:07:35.08\00:07:38.72 But for years and years he urged the brethren 00:07:38.75\00:07:41.19 that we needed to be on Shortwave. 00:07:41.22\00:07:44.49 And Shortwave is only a hobby here in the United States, 00:07:44.53\00:07:48.40 but in most of the world, it's the only way. 00:07:48.43\00:07:50.70 Yeah. Virtually only way. 00:07:50.73\00:07:52.07 A lot of people get the news. Get the news, very true. 00:07:52.10\00:07:55.10 And because it travels thousands of miles, 00:07:55.14\00:07:59.51 many people tuned to it because there is no legitimate 00:07:59.54\00:08:03.24 or means of learning 00:08:03.28\00:08:06.15 what's really happening in the world 00:08:06.18\00:08:07.65 from any media in their own country. 00:08:07.68\00:08:09.55 So they will turn to BBC News 00:08:09.58\00:08:12.05 or something of that sort to find out what's going on. 00:08:12.09\00:08:15.62 And interestingly enough where we lease time 00:08:15.66\00:08:18.93 on major Shortwave stations, 00:08:18.96\00:08:22.73 our engineers every year 00:08:22.76\00:08:24.30 when they're delivering out the programming, 00:08:24.33\00:08:27.14 we try to get before, after BBC News 00:08:27.17\00:08:30.11 or just aside or that side of BBC News. 00:08:30.14\00:08:32.91 Good leading. People get the bad news. 00:08:32.94\00:08:35.11 We hope they turned it out slightly and get the good news. 00:08:35.14\00:08:37.45 Get the good news. 00:08:37.48\00:08:38.81 And I want to talk about that too because 00:08:38.85\00:08:40.82 they say if you want to reach a city, go AM, 00:08:40.85\00:08:43.32 if you want to reach your region, go FM, 00:08:43.35\00:08:44.72 if you want to reach your country or several, 00:08:44.75\00:08:46.15 go Shortwave. 00:08:46.19\00:08:47.52 That's correct. 00:08:47.56\00:08:48.89 And I want to talk about before we go too far, 00:08:48.92\00:08:50.83 the difference between Shortwave programming 00:08:50.86\00:08:52.99 and what we normally think of as FM-AM program 00:08:53.03\00:08:55.26 because there was a difference, there's a stark difference 00:08:55.30\00:08:57.27 as far as your broadcast day. 00:08:57.30\00:08:59.00 And I think, a lot of people are not aware of that. 00:08:59.03\00:09:00.77 Yes. 00:09:00.80\00:09:02.14 It just happens that I'm also an amateur radio operator. 00:09:02.17\00:09:04.37 So I'm familiar with FM radio and I got interested in that 00:09:04.41\00:09:06.88 many years ago and have been on the air for long time, 00:09:06.91\00:09:09.74 not recently but I still have all my equipment. 00:09:09.78\00:09:12.31 But I would just tell you that this is an amazing thing 00:09:12.35\00:09:14.72 about the... 00:09:14.75\00:09:16.08 If you go to Guam, the Central Pacific 00:09:16.12\00:09:17.45 where our flagship shortwave station is... 00:09:17.49\00:09:19.79 Yes. 00:09:19.82\00:09:21.16 They have five big curtain antennas 00:09:21.19\00:09:22.82 that they are perfectly tuned 00:09:22.86\00:09:24.39 and they have 100,000 watts of power. 00:09:24.43\00:09:27.36 But you'd see, all you see out there is ocean. 00:09:27.40\00:09:30.07 And you just think it's not gonna bounce 00:09:30.10\00:09:31.67 off the water, it goes up to the ionosphere 00:09:31.70\00:09:33.54 and come down like rain all over to the 10/40 Window. 00:09:33.57\00:09:36.44 It is incredible, absolutely amazing. 00:09:36.47\00:09:38.71 So it goes up to the ionosphere and comes back down, 00:09:38.74\00:09:40.68 so that's interesting. 00:09:40.71\00:09:42.34 It doesn't have to be line aside. 00:09:42.38\00:09:43.71 So FM though is line aside, so if you're in town 00:09:43.75\00:09:47.62 and you see our antenna on top of the tall building, 00:09:47.65\00:09:49.05 that's probably FM going as far as it can be seen and covers, 00:09:49.08\00:09:52.69 and AM is very similar, they have a shorter wavelength 00:09:52.72\00:09:55.19 than or shorter reach area than FM. 00:09:55.22\00:09:58.39 Than FM. 00:09:58.43\00:09:59.76 But Adventist World Radio is actually were doing 00:09:59.79\00:10:01.26 all three and internet. 00:10:01.30\00:10:02.76 So it's amazing what we're covering now. 00:10:02.80\00:10:04.73 We'll get into that in a few minutes probably. 00:10:04.77\00:10:06.10 Yeah. 00:10:06.13\00:10:07.47 Yeah, having worked at FM station 00:10:07.50\00:10:08.84 for a period of time, it's like an, 00:10:08.87\00:10:11.27 make your pitch real quick, 00:10:11.31\00:10:12.64 I just want to say this before we go to our music 00:10:12.67\00:10:14.24 and come back, we're gonna sort of walk through this. 00:10:14.28\00:10:15.98 The fact that radio 00:10:16.01\00:10:19.08 is as pertinent a communication tool 00:10:19.11\00:10:22.22 as it is ever been rather than decreasing 00:10:22.25\00:10:24.99 because of what it does and where can it go. 00:10:25.02\00:10:26.99 It is as valuable a tool for the gospel 00:10:27.02\00:10:29.62 as that, would you not say so? 00:10:29.66\00:10:30.99 Oh, sure. Yeah. 00:10:31.03\00:10:32.36 The most interesting thing is that even in America, 00:10:32.39\00:10:35.20 especially in the Washington D.C. area 00:10:35.23\00:10:36.60 where we lived for 20 years, 00:10:36.63\00:10:38.33 most people listen to the radio while they're communicating. 00:10:38.37\00:10:40.27 Sometimes that can be up to two hours a day. 00:10:40.30\00:10:41.90 Precisely. Morning and evening. 00:10:41.94\00:10:43.74 So they get their news, 00:10:43.77\00:10:45.11 they get their information they want to, 00:10:45.14\00:10:46.47 the weather and all of that. 00:10:46.51\00:10:47.84 And any other program if they like on the radio. 00:10:47.88\00:10:49.64 And you can listen to while you're working, 00:10:49.68\00:10:51.51 or while you're driving or whatever. 00:10:51.55\00:10:53.08 But the most amazing thing is that in many countries 00:10:53.11\00:10:55.85 where we reach into the most difficult places in the world, 00:10:55.88\00:10:58.19 people do not have a local television station 00:10:58.22\00:11:00.89 or satellite equipment. 00:11:00.92\00:11:02.26 Yes. 00:11:02.29\00:11:03.63 So their only hope is to get something 00:11:03.66\00:11:04.99 that will work in their area even many without power. 00:11:05.03\00:11:08.43 So we'll show you how that happens 00:11:08.46\00:11:09.80 in a few minutes, but it's amazing. 00:11:09.83\00:11:11.43 Radio is the primary means of communication 00:11:11.47\00:11:14.47 that most people in the world have. 00:11:14.50\00:11:16.57 I mean, I'm so used to just turn it, 00:11:16.60\00:11:17.94 flipping the switch and having a light 00:11:17.97\00:11:19.31 and what if you had no power. 00:11:19.34\00:11:20.68 You know, many people live that way. 00:11:20.71\00:11:22.14 Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. 00:11:22.18\00:11:23.51 It's interesting that I can remember as a boy 00:11:23.55\00:11:25.85 when television came in. 00:11:25.88\00:11:27.65 The word was that radio would die, it didn't die. 00:11:27.68\00:11:31.92 It became stronger yet. 00:11:31.95\00:11:33.32 When the internet came along, everybody said radio will die. 00:11:33.36\00:11:36.12 Well, as you very well know, 00:11:36.16\00:11:38.46 our radio was all over the internet. 00:11:38.49\00:11:39.93 Now a local radio station can be worldwide, 00:11:39.96\00:11:43.00 nationwide, worldwide. 00:11:43.03\00:11:44.77 Yes. 00:11:44.80\00:11:46.13 And I think radio has never been stronger than it is today, 00:11:46.17\00:11:49.10 even though, we have the internet, 00:11:49.14\00:11:50.67 we have television, we have satellite, 00:11:50.71\00:11:52.24 we have all that kind of stuff. 00:11:52.27\00:11:54.38 But we know the devil uses all these media. 00:11:54.41\00:11:57.28 Oh, yes. 00:11:57.31\00:11:58.65 God's truth must be broadcast in all those ways, 00:11:58.68\00:12:03.59 and as Ed says, believe it or not for much of the world, 00:12:03.62\00:12:09.12 Shortwave radio or internet is the only way 00:12:09.16\00:12:12.43 they can get any kind of message out. 00:12:12.46\00:12:14.66 We can get the message out. Yeah. 00:12:14.70\00:12:16.16 There is an intimacy with radio 00:12:16.20\00:12:17.77 that the other media simply do not have. 00:12:17.80\00:12:20.50 When you pass some of these big buildings 00:12:20.54\00:12:22.77 where the guys are working as hard as what not, what's on? 00:12:22.80\00:12:26.21 Radio all day long. 00:12:26.24\00:12:27.61 A painter comes to your house, what's on? 00:12:27.64\00:12:29.88 Radio. 00:12:29.91\00:12:31.25 You know, as you well said, 00:12:31.28\00:12:33.01 having pastored in New York City for 30 years. 00:12:33.05\00:12:35.28 One hour, two hour commute, what's on? 00:12:35.32\00:12:37.32 Radio. 00:12:37.35\00:12:38.69 So rather than being irrelevant, it becomes 00:12:38.72\00:12:42.22 hyper relevant in the Atlantic. 00:12:42.26\00:12:43.59 Yes, that's true. Yeah. Thank you. 00:16:52.07\00:16:53.88 Brother Bennett, well done. 00:16:53.91\00:16:55.31 Young man with the great testimony 00:16:55.34\00:16:57.21 who came here some time ago to record music 00:16:57.25\00:16:59.05 and just somebody we like a lot. 00:16:59.08\00:17:00.72 My guests are Ed Reid and Jeffrey Wilson, 00:17:00.75\00:17:02.85 they both of Adventist World Radio 00:17:02.88\00:17:05.15 holding the same title as assistant to the president 00:17:05.19\00:17:09.49 and as Elder Jeff said, 00:17:09.52\00:17:12.63 "You know, when you get two hoarding the same, 00:17:12.66\00:17:14.40 you actually get more than a 100% 00:17:14.43\00:17:16.10 that's because of the way Adventism works. 00:17:16.13\00:17:17.93 Everybody gives their 100%. 00:17:17.97\00:17:19.57 So when you get, rather in getting 50-50, 00:17:19.60\00:17:21.60 you get a 100-100. 00:17:21.64\00:17:22.97 So you really get 200%. 00:17:23.00\00:17:24.34 And that's just the way it works. 00:17:24.37\00:17:26.14 Let's gentlemen walk right into what is Adventist World Radio 00:17:26.17\00:17:30.91 and why does it exist? 00:17:30.95\00:17:32.58 And I guess that bespeaks 00:17:32.61\00:17:34.02 a little history of the media also. 00:17:34.05\00:17:36.38 Adventist World Radio began in 1971 00:17:36.42\00:17:40.69 and I think, it was Neal Wilson and number of others 00:17:40.72\00:17:43.32 who with the urging of Elder Richards and others said, 00:17:43.36\00:17:48.00 we've got to reach that larger audience. 00:17:48.03\00:17:51.13 And believe it or not, 00:17:51.17\00:17:52.77 there are about 40 countries in the world 00:17:52.80\00:17:55.54 in which we cannot do regular church work. 00:17:55.57\00:17:59.14 We can't build churches, 00:17:59.17\00:18:00.51 we can't do evangelistic meetings, 00:18:00.54\00:18:03.11 we can't print or distribute literature. 00:18:03.14\00:18:05.08 We can't be on any local stations 00:18:05.11\00:18:07.82 because we're Christian. 00:18:07.85\00:18:09.18 So we had... 00:18:09.22\00:18:10.55 And had the Lord in His commission, 00:18:10.59\00:18:12.35 great commission to us said, "Go to every nation, 00:18:12.39\00:18:15.96 kindred, tongue, and people. 00:18:15.99\00:18:18.06 So the church feels we've got to reach everyone. 00:18:18.09\00:18:21.50 Even if we can't send, even if we can't do 00:18:21.53\00:18:24.53 boots on the ground as it were, we can't send. 00:18:24.57\00:18:27.54 We send missionaries since 1874 all over the world 00:18:27.57\00:18:31.51 except this we now called the 10/40 window, 00:18:31.54\00:18:36.08 10 degrees north to 40 degrees north, 00:18:36.11\00:18:38.31 halfway around the world from the United States, 00:18:38.35\00:18:40.52 from West Africa to the Philippines, 00:18:40.55\00:18:42.95 two-thirds of the world live in that window. 00:18:42.98\00:18:46.22 And yet, and that's where all the world religions 00:18:46.25\00:18:49.12 have their birth place. 00:18:49.16\00:18:50.49 Yes. Yes. 00:18:50.53\00:18:51.86 And yet, if you count, if you look at it only 3, 4, 5% 00:18:51.89\00:18:57.03 are Christian in that window, 00:18:57.07\00:18:58.40 where two-thirds of the world lives. 00:18:58.43\00:19:00.60 And that's why 3ABN, that's why Hope Channel, 00:19:00.64\00:19:04.57 that's why especially, Adventist World Radio 00:19:04.61\00:19:07.48 is concentrating on that window. 00:19:07.51\00:19:10.35 We can't send missionaries in, 00:19:10.38\00:19:12.31 so we have to bring people out sometimes under cover 00:19:12.35\00:19:18.29 to where we have a studio because all of our producers, 00:19:18.32\00:19:22.36 all of our speakers are native language speakers 00:19:22.39\00:19:25.36 for that country. 00:19:25.39\00:19:27.16 We're jumping a huge divide between a heathen religion 00:19:27.20\00:19:31.73 and Christianity. 00:19:31.77\00:19:33.10 And so the people need to hear a familiar voice. 00:19:33.13\00:19:36.44 And as you know, you can learn a language, 00:19:36.47\00:19:39.27 but your voice is not like a native speaker 00:19:39.31\00:19:43.41 in that particular language. 00:19:43.45\00:19:44.78 So we use all native speakers 00:19:44.81\00:19:47.15 and people can only reach us by Shortwave radio, 00:19:47.18\00:19:52.95 and Ed will show you some of the radios 00:19:52.99\00:19:54.59 we distribute in a minute. 00:19:54.62\00:19:56.02 We distribute thousands of radios every year, 00:19:56.06\00:19:58.73 not radios that you can plug in. 00:19:58.76\00:20:00.10 Yeah. 00:20:00.13\00:20:01.46 They don't have a place to plug in, 00:20:01.50\00:20:02.96 and they are battery powered but we found people 00:20:03.00\00:20:05.77 going two or three days without rice 00:20:05.80\00:20:07.44 to afford to buy two or three AAA batteries 00:20:07.47\00:20:10.07 to put in the radios and we felt we can't... 00:20:10.11\00:20:12.07 The gospel must be free. 00:20:12.11\00:20:14.08 So we use solar powered radios, 00:20:14.11\00:20:18.01 and so we can get the gospel to people 00:20:18.05\00:20:21.92 free from thousands of miles away, 00:20:21.95\00:20:25.19 because we cannot broadcast in those countries. 00:20:25.22\00:20:29.76 I mean, we have so much of our work, 00:20:29.79\00:20:31.26 we can't discuss, we can't tell you the country name. 00:20:31.29\00:20:33.60 Yeah. 00:20:33.63\00:20:34.96 We certainly aren't going to talk about people 00:20:35.00\00:20:36.56 because it would jeopardize the work that we do. 00:20:36.60\00:20:41.10 So you want the gospel to be truly free. 00:20:41.14\00:20:44.77 And I've got to slid down in the store to get batteries 00:20:44.81\00:20:47.04 then it's not, it is costing me something 00:20:47.08\00:20:49.08 and it's either eat or batteries. 00:20:49.11\00:20:51.88 I kind of got to go with eat, you know, it's... 00:20:51.91\00:20:54.58 So to make it truly free. 00:20:54.62\00:20:56.99 We talk about 10/40 window 00:20:57.02\00:20:58.95 and the concentration of people groups in the 10/40 window, 00:20:58.99\00:21:02.22 but is it not also true that 00:21:02.26\00:21:03.73 some of the most resistant areas are in that same window 00:21:03.76\00:21:07.33 as far as being resistant to the gospel. 00:21:07.36\00:21:09.33 Actually hostile. Yes, yes, yes, well said. 00:21:09.36\00:21:11.73 As we speak, this is not in the major news, 00:21:11.77\00:21:14.47 but as we speak thousands of Christians 00:21:14.50\00:21:17.17 are being killed in that window for their faith. 00:21:17.21\00:21:19.91 They're being martyred. 00:21:19.94\00:21:21.41 It's the time of trouble... 00:21:21.44\00:21:23.28 For them. For them right now. 00:21:23.31\00:21:25.71 It's not future, it's right now. 00:21:25.75\00:21:27.98 So we urge people, we want to pray 00:21:28.02\00:21:31.39 that the Holy Spirit will guide people 00:21:31.42\00:21:33.46 to tune their radios to Voice of Hope, 00:21:33.49\00:21:36.29 to our various programming, but at the same time, 00:21:36.32\00:21:39.39 pray that the holy angels will protect the lives of those 00:21:39.43\00:21:43.80 who embrace Christianity 00:21:43.83\00:21:45.93 because their lives are in danger. 00:21:45.97\00:21:47.57 One thing that's helpful with radio over television 00:21:47.60\00:21:50.67 is if you view a television screen 00:21:50.71\00:21:53.44 and that's a Christian program in a hostile country, 00:21:53.48\00:21:56.61 your life may be in danger. 00:21:56.64\00:21:58.41 But we have young people doing and others in these countries 00:21:58.45\00:22:01.25 is they have their ear buds in their ears. 00:22:01.28\00:22:04.55 And nobody knows whether they're listening 00:22:04.59\00:22:07.16 to a Christian program or secular program. 00:22:07.19\00:22:11.69 So they can listen to the word 00:22:11.73\00:22:16.67 and their lives at the moment at least can be spared. 00:22:16.70\00:22:19.90 Can be spared, yeah. Yeah, praise the Lord. 00:22:19.93\00:22:22.34 I would add one interesting thing 00:22:22.37\00:22:23.71 and that is what Elder Wilson 00:22:23.74\00:22:25.67 has just mentioned is absolutely true, 00:22:25.71\00:22:27.11 but the most amazing thing 00:22:27.14\00:22:28.48 is people like to hear in their own language, 00:22:28.51\00:22:30.55 so we're in over a 100 languages, 00:22:30.58\00:22:32.75 the most, the major languages of the whole world 00:22:32.78\00:22:35.58 are on Adventist World Radio. 00:22:35.62\00:22:37.29 And the interesting thing also is that even though 00:22:37.32\00:22:39.79 people live in these isolated countries, 00:22:39.82\00:22:41.29 the radio doesn't stop at the border, 00:22:41.32\00:22:43.86 it goes right over the top, you know, this is incredible. 00:22:43.89\00:22:46.13 It is, it truly is. 00:22:46.16\00:22:47.53 It's really, really amazing and they need very little 00:22:47.56\00:22:49.96 as far as equipment to be able to listen. 00:22:50.00\00:22:52.27 So my wife and I have devotions together every morning, 00:22:52.30\00:22:55.00 we always pray for the media. 00:22:55.04\00:22:56.37 We mention 3ABN by name, Adventist World Radio by name 00:22:56.40\00:22:58.71 and so on 'cause we're not in competition, 00:22:58.74\00:23:01.14 we're working together. 00:23:01.18\00:23:02.51 No, no, same work, very much so. 00:23:02.54\00:23:03.88 And so Adventist World Radio 00:23:03.91\00:23:05.25 is the General Conference's mission arm, 00:23:05.28\00:23:07.58 the radio mission arm to take the gospel 00:23:07.62\00:23:09.42 where the missionaries typically cannot go, 00:23:09.45\00:23:12.05 but we're now in other places using FM in big cities 00:23:12.09\00:23:14.86 in India and in Africa and so on 00:23:14.89\00:23:17.39 to make even more of a concentration, 00:23:17.43\00:23:20.40 and you recently had an interview 00:23:20.43\00:23:22.06 with elder Duane Mckey, our new president 00:23:22.10\00:23:24.33 of Adventist World Radio. 00:23:24.37\00:23:25.77 And he's been involved with the General Conference 00:23:25.80\00:23:27.70 as the coordinator with Elder Wilson 00:23:27.74\00:23:30.44 under his direction of the total member involvement, 00:23:30.47\00:23:33.01 getting everybody to do something. 00:23:33.04\00:23:35.11 And so having that as also part of 00:23:35.14\00:23:37.81 now Adventist World Radio, 00:23:37.85\00:23:39.18 we have some incredible new things happening, 00:23:39.21\00:23:42.02 and we'll tell you about those as well. 00:23:42.05\00:23:43.39 But the idea is we're taking 00:23:43.42\00:23:45.29 as you are the gospel to all the world, 00:23:45.32\00:23:47.69 every kindred, nation, tongue, and people. 00:23:47.72\00:23:49.19 So it is my personal opinion that almost everybody on earth 00:23:49.22\00:23:52.36 can listen to and understand one of those languages. 00:23:52.39\00:23:54.53 Amen, amen. Praise the Lord. 00:23:54.56\00:23:56.23 Now, walk me through this gentlemen 00:23:56.26\00:23:58.17 because when you think of radio, 00:23:58.20\00:23:59.87 you think of, "Oh, you can turn a radio, 00:23:59.90\00:24:01.37 you get English programs, 00:24:01.40\00:24:02.74 you get some music and some this, 00:24:02.77\00:24:04.11 but Shortwave radio functions are little different 00:24:04.14\00:24:06.91 because of the varied people groups you are trying to meet, 00:24:06.94\00:24:09.51 so the broadcast day is broken up into. 00:24:09.54\00:24:11.81 Can you walk me through that what that is 00:24:11.85\00:24:13.31 so people can understand the difference here 00:24:13.35\00:24:15.18 between say an FM or AM station and a Shortwave broadcast? 00:24:15.22\00:24:19.55 Well, Ed and I... 00:24:19.59\00:24:22.19 While your title as assistant to the president, 00:24:22.22\00:24:26.23 that's not the total title. 00:24:26.26\00:24:27.60 Our title is assistant to the president 00:24:27.63\00:24:29.36 for planned giving. 00:24:29.40\00:24:31.10 Ed and I really work at the other end, 00:24:31.13\00:24:32.77 we don't work at headquarters, we work out of our homes 00:24:32.80\00:24:35.40 and we deal with people assisting them 00:24:35.44\00:24:37.84 with wills and trusts and this sort of thing 00:24:37.87\00:24:39.71 of supporting God's work. 00:24:39.74\00:24:41.34 And in that work, of course, there are many people 00:24:41.38\00:24:43.35 who remember many different ministries 00:24:43.38\00:24:45.08 including 3ABN in the work that we do. 00:24:45.11\00:24:48.08 So we don't know a whole lot about the technical end of it, 00:24:48.12\00:24:50.69 but we do know that we broadcast in 100 languages 00:24:50.72\00:24:55.49 and that those languages are focused on times of day. 00:24:55.52\00:25:00.03 For example, from Guam, 00:25:00.06\00:25:02.06 we reach the eastern half of the 10/40 window 00:25:02.10\00:25:04.87 and our big push out of Guam is China. 00:25:04.90\00:25:09.10 Three of our five antennas on Guam are focused on China. 00:25:09.14\00:25:13.34 And we do about 33 languages as I understand there, 00:25:13.38\00:25:16.64 and we focus on, believe it or not, 00:25:16.68\00:25:20.32 China is as wide as the United States. 00:25:20.35\00:25:23.18 We have four time zones in the continental United States, 00:25:23.22\00:25:26.96 in China, it's a one time zone, 00:25:26.99\00:25:30.79 believe it or not, one time zone. 00:25:30.83\00:25:32.79 So we focus on the three hours in the morning 00:25:32.83\00:25:35.66 and the three hours in the evening, 00:25:35.70\00:25:37.53 when people are commuting because as we said, 00:25:37.57\00:25:39.50 if you're living in a big city, 00:25:39.53\00:25:40.97 you're not watching TV, you're stuck in traffic... 00:25:41.00\00:25:43.61 Even while riding a bike. 00:25:43.64\00:25:44.97 Even while riding a bike, you're listening to the radio. 00:25:45.01\00:25:47.88 So we focus on the major languages there, 00:25:47.91\00:25:50.81 believe it or not, the most, 00:25:50.85\00:25:52.95 the language that we're getting the most response 00:25:52.98\00:25:55.02 from right now is Mandarin Chinese 00:25:55.05\00:25:57.45 which is thrilling to us because as you know in China, 00:25:57.49\00:26:01.82 if the church is working at all, it's underground. 00:26:01.86\00:26:04.46 Yes. 00:26:04.49\00:26:05.83 And so many people speaking Mandarin, 00:26:05.86\00:26:08.93 they're not hearing it on a Sabbath morning 00:26:08.96\00:26:12.03 or a Sunday morning in church. 00:26:12.07\00:26:14.84 This is the way we can preach not just Sabbath or Sunday, 00:26:14.87\00:26:17.81 but seven days a week. 00:26:17.84\00:26:19.37 So we concentrate on the times of days 00:26:19.41\00:26:21.51 and the languages to fit that to reach the most people 00:26:21.54\00:26:25.11 in the most opportune times of the day. 00:26:25.15\00:26:27.52 Okay, you've answered to my question perfectly. 00:26:27.55\00:26:31.52 What I was trying to get to is that 00:26:31.55\00:26:33.69 someone in China who speaks Mandarin, 00:26:33.72\00:26:35.92 knows that at 9 o'clock, Monday morning, 00:26:35.96\00:26:39.86 I can turn on this thing and I'm going to hear 00:26:39.89\00:26:41.43 something for me. 00:26:41.46\00:26:43.20 Yeah. 00:26:43.23\00:26:44.57 The most amazing thing to me is how people find out about it. 00:26:44.60\00:26:47.17 Yes. 00:26:47.20\00:26:48.54 Because, you know, when you put the signal out there, 00:26:48.57\00:26:49.90 you're not really sure anybody's going to listen, 00:26:49.94\00:26:51.91 but providentially, not happenstance. 00:26:51.94\00:26:54.48 Yes. 00:26:54.51\00:26:55.84 Providentially, people find a station 00:26:55.88\00:26:57.21 and other people tell them about it. 00:26:57.25\00:26:59.11 And we actually have many stories, 00:26:59.15\00:27:01.12 we'll share a few later 00:27:01.15\00:27:02.78 where somebody has listened to the radio in a place 00:27:02.82\00:27:05.12 where they couldn't share it with anybody, 00:27:05.15\00:27:07.06 be very, very interested. 00:27:07.09\00:27:08.42 And then they finally can't keep it in, 00:27:08.46\00:27:10.23 tell someone else and that person's 00:27:10.26\00:27:11.63 been listening to. 00:27:11.66\00:27:14.23 Isn't that amazing? That is great. That is great. 00:27:14.26\00:27:16.36 That's the power of the Lord and reach of the gospel 00:27:16.40\00:27:19.13 and, you know, the Lord, once you join hands with Him, 00:27:19.17\00:27:21.97 your work grows so exponentially. 00:27:22.00\00:27:24.71 Yes. 00:27:24.74\00:27:26.07 And though you're not putting stuff out, 00:27:26.11\00:27:27.44 it's getting out there, and people are responding 00:27:27.48\00:27:29.14 and praise the Lord for that. 00:27:29.18\00:27:30.51 So that is what I was getting at that, 00:27:30.55\00:27:33.11 you switched languages at different times a day 00:27:33.15\00:27:36.08 during the course of the day 00:27:36.12\00:27:37.72 and different people groups are picking up or tuning in 00:27:37.75\00:27:40.06 during the time when their language is being spoken. 00:27:40.09\00:27:42.12 I should say that. 00:27:42.16\00:27:43.56 We talk about Guam which is our church, 00:27:43.59\00:27:45.76 our own station on the Island of Guam 00:27:45.79\00:27:47.60 which is a U.S. territory so we're safe there. 00:27:47.63\00:27:50.97 We can't be in those countries obviously, 00:27:51.00\00:27:53.10 but for many years, the church had a small station in Italy 00:27:53.13\00:27:57.54 and there was a plan to build a super station in Italy 00:27:57.57\00:28:01.61 to cover the western half of the 10/40 window. 00:28:01.64\00:28:04.88 And we kept getting requirements 00:28:04.91\00:28:08.12 from additional permits, additional permits 00:28:08.15\00:28:10.49 and finally we've realized that the government 00:28:10.52\00:28:12.79 didn't want us there. 00:28:12.82\00:28:14.16 Yeah. 00:28:14.19\00:28:15.52 Well, it was all in God's plan because how we cover 00:28:15.56\00:28:17.29 the western half of the 10/40 window at this moment 00:28:17.33\00:28:19.79 is we lease time out of South Africa, 00:28:19.83\00:28:23.20 out of Madagascar, out of Austria, 00:28:23.23\00:28:26.47 Germany and the Netherlands. 00:28:26.50\00:28:29.40 And so from outside the window, 00:28:29.44\00:28:31.77 we reach into the window. 00:28:31.81\00:28:33.74 And as Ed described our antenna, 00:28:33.78\00:28:36.61 they're call curtains. 00:28:36.64\00:28:38.21 They're a size of football field. 00:28:38.25\00:28:40.42 And so they're fairly, yeah, they're fairly directional. 00:28:40.45\00:28:44.05 It's not like satellite at 360. 00:28:44.09\00:28:46.49 So we have to be outside and shoot toward that Guam, 00:28:46.52\00:28:50.43 on the south end of Guam are as we're along the coast 00:28:50.46\00:28:53.53 there right next to the naval station, 00:28:53.56\00:28:55.53 we're focused perfectly for China, 00:28:55.56\00:28:58.07 North Korea and Southeast Asia. 00:28:58.10\00:29:00.80 For Africa and Europe, we're focused perfectly 00:29:00.84\00:29:03.71 to get the western half of that window, 00:29:03.74\00:29:05.61 so we cover every square inch of the 10/40 window, 00:29:05.64\00:29:09.74 sometimes overlapping somewhat, but that's good too. 00:29:09.78\00:29:12.05 Oh, yes. 00:29:12.08\00:29:13.42 The whole window, even though we can't be 00:29:13.45\00:29:15.58 in the window very much. 00:29:15.62\00:29:17.29 Well, few places we can. 00:29:17.32\00:29:19.59 And we have a little station in Israel now 00:29:19.62\00:29:21.09 I think, don't we, Ed? 00:29:21.12\00:29:22.46 Yeah, I think so. 00:29:22.49\00:29:23.83 But most of that geography, we can't be in it. 00:29:23.86\00:29:26.93 Well, India is in the window 00:29:26.96\00:29:28.53 and we do have a number of F.M stations growing 00:29:28.56\00:29:31.97 and I think, we're in 10 or 13 languages in India now. 00:29:32.00\00:29:34.44 Yeah. 00:29:34.47\00:29:35.80 But lot of that other area, the Arab countries, 00:29:35.84\00:29:37.34 we cannot get into North Korea, of course, no way. 00:29:37.37\00:29:40.51 China, very little, but where it's saturated 00:29:40.54\00:29:44.71 with three angels' gospel because of where we are. 00:29:44.75\00:29:48.72 The signal goes in but we can't go personally 00:29:48.75\00:29:51.02 at some of these places. 00:29:51.05\00:29:53.46 And it's so exciting, and I have seen 00:29:53.49\00:29:56.26 to see what this antenna, 00:29:56.29\00:29:58.36 we say antenna, you're thinking of one little thing 00:29:58.39\00:30:00.00 but this ain't that. 00:30:00.03\00:30:01.43 This is a massive kind of thing. 00:30:01.46\00:30:03.93 And it's really a marvelous technology. 00:30:03.97\00:30:06.17 If you look at those antenna, 00:30:06.20\00:30:08.50 it's sobering to see how big they are. 00:30:08.54\00:30:11.64 And the typhoon that came through there 00:30:11.67\00:30:14.74 what was at '04 I think, blew the roof off our academy, 00:30:14.78\00:30:18.21 destroyed many of the buildings on Guam... 00:30:18.25\00:30:21.92 Yeah. 00:30:21.95\00:30:23.28 There are 300, 280 to 330 feet tall. 00:30:23.32\00:30:26.76 Yes. 00:30:26.79\00:30:28.12 They sit on a concrete foundation and... 00:30:28.16\00:30:30.59 It's big as the school bus. 00:30:30.63\00:30:31.96 Yeah, and but with the guy wires 00:30:31.99\00:30:35.16 they can lean with the wind 00:30:35.20\00:30:37.83 and they stood and withstand the horrible storms 00:30:37.87\00:30:42.04 they have there, when even buildings don't. 00:30:42.07\00:30:44.21 Praise the Lord. 00:30:44.24\00:30:45.71 Praise God, that's all very, very exciting. 00:30:45.74\00:30:48.94 I remember when they were trying to do that thing 00:30:48.98\00:30:51.48 in Italy and finally you just realize that 00:30:51.51\00:30:53.95 it wasn't gonna fly. 00:30:53.98\00:30:55.32 But you know, when you're working with the Lord, 00:30:55.35\00:30:56.85 the Lord has many, many ways that you think not of. 00:30:56.89\00:30:58.25 That's true. That's right. 00:30:58.29\00:30:59.62 And we get, what we need to have done. 00:30:59.65\00:31:03.53 You have brought a couple examples 00:31:03.56\00:31:05.26 of radios with you and I want to get to them 00:31:05.29\00:31:07.56 before we get too far on the program, 00:31:07.60\00:31:09.30 you walk us through some of this stuff, yeah. 00:31:09.33\00:31:10.87 This cute little radio is amazing 00:31:10.90\00:31:12.90 in the fact that it has Shortwave, 00:31:12.93\00:31:17.11 AM-FM and Shortwave 00:31:17.14\00:31:18.47 but the interesting part about it 00:31:18.51\00:31:19.84 is it can fit in your pocket. 00:31:19.87\00:31:21.21 And it has, of course, a place for you 00:31:21.24\00:31:22.58 to plug your ear phones in. 00:31:22.61\00:31:23.95 And so while, you're riding your bike 00:31:23.98\00:31:25.31 or whatever you can listen to it, and it's a digital. 00:31:25.35\00:31:26.68 So it focuses right on the signal 00:31:26.72\00:31:28.05 which is very, very good. 00:31:28.08\00:31:29.42 This is in a place where you can have electricity 00:31:29.45\00:31:31.35 or batteries. 00:31:31.39\00:31:32.72 But there's other one, I'm going to show you, 00:31:32.75\00:31:34.09 I'll lay that one down here is pretty amazing. 00:31:34.12\00:31:37.73 It's quite substantial 00:31:37.76\00:31:39.56 and it also has a digital readout 00:31:39.59\00:31:41.60 and it has a big speaker. 00:31:41.63\00:31:44.00 We have lots of photographs of people 00:31:44.03\00:31:45.70 listening to this radio with the whole family 00:31:45.73\00:31:47.94 or a whole group of villagers around. 00:31:47.97\00:31:50.54 So that you can turn it, clear up on full power 00:31:50.57\00:31:53.01 and it doesn't distort which is amazing. 00:31:53.04\00:31:55.74 But in addition to that, 00:31:55.78\00:31:57.11 this is one of those universal ones 00:31:57.15\00:31:58.48 that has four different ways to power. 00:31:58.51\00:32:00.48 You can plug it in should you be in a place 00:32:00.52\00:32:02.05 that has electricity or you can use battery power. 00:32:02.08\00:32:04.49 But in addition, it has a solar panel on the back 00:32:04.52\00:32:06.45 that collects the sun. 00:32:06.49\00:32:07.82 Excellent. 00:32:07.86\00:32:09.19 And if you set it out in the sun, 00:32:09.22\00:32:10.56 it will play for quite a long time. 00:32:10.59\00:32:11.93 Yeah and I see something else back there. 00:32:11.96\00:32:13.29 If you live where you have sun, you can crank it up. 00:32:13.33\00:32:14.66 You can crank. 00:32:14.70\00:32:16.03 This is got a little servo in it that cranks up 00:32:16.06\00:32:17.67 and it charges the battery and it's amazing. 00:32:17.70\00:32:21.54 This one has been my favorite one, 00:32:21.57\00:32:22.94 but we've even smaller than this that have all four on it. 00:32:22.97\00:32:25.57 And this is incredible. 00:32:25.61\00:32:26.98 We distribute thousands of those. 00:32:27.01\00:32:28.34 You got a little light there, yeah. 00:32:28.38\00:32:29.71 By the way, this has a little light, 00:32:29.74\00:32:31.08 it just came on just from my cranking that is in it. 00:32:31.11\00:32:33.72 Isn't that amazing? 00:32:33.75\00:32:35.35 But this is one that's also and by the way AWR's purchase 00:32:35.38\00:32:38.39 thousands of these and distribute them to people. 00:32:38.42\00:32:41.59 You might know a miracle story and Jeff will tell you 00:32:41.62\00:32:43.66 a few stories in a few minutes, but we've gone to places 00:32:43.69\00:32:46.39 where people already had radios. 00:32:46.43\00:32:47.76 They don't even know that we're coming 00:32:47.80\00:32:49.13 and already listening to the AWR. 00:32:49.16\00:32:50.50 Wow! Isn't that amazing? 00:32:50.53\00:32:51.87 Praise the Lord. How do you get these out? 00:32:51.90\00:32:53.23 Or how does AWR get them out? 00:32:53.27\00:32:54.60 Do they select a country 00:32:54.64\00:32:56.27 and then sort of distribute them? 00:32:56.30\00:32:57.97 How did, this is a nice little, you know, it's not that heavy, 00:32:58.01\00:33:00.08 I'm kind of get it right with you. 00:33:00.11\00:33:01.44 That's right, we'd distribute them 00:33:01.48\00:33:02.81 specifically in places where our signal... 00:33:02.84\00:33:05.21 Well, we know the signals there, 00:33:05.25\00:33:06.58 but people don't have the means to have a radio. 00:33:06.61\00:33:08.85 Elder Chow, our former president, for example, 00:33:08.88\00:33:11.55 went into some back country in Mexico 00:33:11.59\00:33:14.66 and distributed about 6,000 of those 00:33:14.69\00:33:17.23 and they've distributed throughout Africa 00:33:17.26\00:33:20.96 and as Ed said, 00:33:21.00\00:33:23.93 we've also have stories of village chiefs 00:33:23.97\00:33:27.57 who reported that a man in white 00:33:27.60\00:33:30.51 came to the village and handed him a radio. 00:33:30.54\00:33:32.71 Oh, wow! 00:33:32.74\00:33:34.08 And told him how to tune to Voice of Hope. 00:33:34.11\00:33:37.35 Well, if you're a villager in a village 00:33:37.38\00:33:39.45 and your chief asked you to come to his house 00:33:39.48\00:33:41.62 to listen to a radio, would you go? 00:33:41.65\00:33:43.39 Of course, you go. I think so. 00:33:43.42\00:33:45.52 And after listening for a while, 00:33:45.55\00:33:46.89 they learned that the seventh day was a Sabbath 00:33:46.92\00:33:49.76 and so we've discovered that, 00:33:49.79\00:33:51.89 for example, in Madagascar about 28 villages 00:33:51.93\00:33:55.33 where the people come together every Sabbath 00:33:55.36\00:33:58.53 and listen to the radio and that's their church. 00:33:58.57\00:34:00.70 Wow! 00:34:00.74\00:34:02.07 Praise the Lord. 00:34:02.10\00:34:03.44 This one is kind of my friend. 00:34:03.47\00:34:04.81 I like this because at first, I like the crank, 00:34:04.84\00:34:06.17 you know, I'm kind of who do not just sit, 00:34:06.21\00:34:08.74 I'm just kind of crank all day, you know. 00:34:08.78\00:34:10.11 Get your exercise. 00:34:10.15\00:34:11.51 Get that light on it. 00:34:11.55\00:34:12.88 What is the full charge? 00:34:12.91\00:34:14.25 How much cranking you have to set 00:34:14.28\00:34:15.62 to get maybe an hour out of this? 00:34:15.65\00:34:16.99 I think probably about 15 minutes. 00:34:17.02\00:34:18.35 Yeah. But it's not too long. 00:34:18.39\00:34:19.72 People learn what it is, how long it takes. 00:34:19.75\00:34:21.86 Actually we have sometimes church school groups 00:34:21.89\00:34:24.83 or pathfinder groups or Sabbath school groups 00:34:24.86\00:34:28.23 will take on a project of sponsoring half a dozen 00:34:28.26\00:34:32.57 or a dozen of these radios and they run about $40 00:34:32.60\00:34:36.60 that includes sending in and all that comes with it. 00:34:36.64\00:34:40.14 It comes with ear phones too... 00:34:40.18\00:34:41.64 Ear phones, yeah. 00:34:41.68\00:34:43.01 Various, the plug in if you have power. 00:34:43.04\00:34:45.08 Yeah. That little addition. 00:34:45.11\00:34:46.92 I'm sorry, I didn't mean to cut you off, 00:34:46.95\00:34:48.28 it's just, it's just very, very wise. 00:34:48.32\00:34:50.32 You can be discreet, you can listen, 00:34:50.35\00:34:52.15 and not put yourself in a kind of jeopardy. 00:34:52.19\00:34:53.86 You know, by sort of blasting this thing, 00:34:53.89\00:34:55.49 that's a very wise to watch. 00:34:55.52\00:34:58.16 When I was here about six years ago, 2011 00:34:58.19\00:35:01.00 and we talked about this, I demonstrated a little radio 00:35:01.03\00:35:03.16 similar to that one and there was a family watching 00:35:03.20\00:35:05.83 and they had a very nice vintage guitar, 00:35:05.87\00:35:09.40 "Gibson Vintage guitar". 00:35:09.44\00:35:10.77 They called me and they said. 00:35:10.81\00:35:12.17 Well, funny thing happened, they called the office 00:35:12.21\00:35:14.21 and the young lady answered the phone said, 00:35:14.24\00:35:16.41 they said "We have a guitar, we'd like to donate" 00:35:16.44\00:35:18.45 and that she said "Well I don't think we take guitars." 00:35:18.48\00:35:24.15 They want to talk to me and so this is Sharon and Vic 00:35:24.19\00:35:26.55 and Sharon Thelon and lives in Western Idaho. 00:35:26.59\00:35:30.43 So I had a speaking point at Walla Walla, 00:35:30.46\00:35:32.16 and I went out to see them when I was out there 00:35:32.19\00:35:34.36 and they donated a 1935 00:35:34.40\00:35:37.97 Super 400 Gibson Guitar, archtop guitar. 00:35:38.00\00:35:40.64 It turned out. 00:35:40.67\00:35:42.24 We had it appraised in Nashville, Tennessee 00:35:42.27\00:35:44.57 by Gibson Company official $16,500. 00:35:44.61\00:35:48.51 He said "It should be worth. We sold it for 20,000. 00:35:48.54\00:35:50.61 Oh, wow. 00:35:50.65\00:35:51.98 But his question to me was 00:35:52.01\00:35:53.35 "I wonder, how many these little radios 00:35:53.38\00:35:54.72 my guitar would pay for? 00:35:54.75\00:35:56.58 I don't want this thing to get burned up in my house 00:35:56.62\00:35:58.32 when Jesus comes back." 00:35:58.35\00:35:59.69 All right. Isn't that amazing? 00:35:59.72\00:36:01.52 That is amazing. What a blessing. 00:36:01.56\00:36:03.63 So many, many people and Jeff found people like that too. 00:36:03.66\00:36:06.90 I'll share one other little thing, 00:36:06.93\00:36:08.26 these are the little ambassadors 00:36:08.30\00:36:09.83 and this thing has a way to control it 00:36:09.86\00:36:12.13 and it has in it the entire Bible, 00:36:12.17\00:36:14.24 King James Version's Bible, Bible studies and sermons. 00:36:14.27\00:36:17.51 How many hours? 00:36:17.54\00:36:18.87 Hundred and sixty hours. Oh, wow. 00:36:18.91\00:36:20.24 Hundred and sixty hours of material, 00:36:20.28\00:36:22.01 but it doesn't have batteries. 00:36:22.04\00:36:23.38 It just has a solar thing 00:36:23.41\00:36:24.75 that's actually laid out in the sun 00:36:24.78\00:36:26.11 and you can listen to it as you walk around. 00:36:26.15\00:36:27.48 It has a strong signal too. 00:36:27.52\00:36:28.85 I mean, you can listen to it, 00:36:28.88\00:36:30.22 You don't even need your ear phones. 00:36:30.25\00:36:31.59 We would distribute those in some of the air remote areas 00:36:31.62\00:36:33.66 where we know our signal isn't getting. 00:36:33.69\00:36:36.66 So people can listen without listening to this radio. 00:36:36.69\00:36:38.33 This is self-contained. 00:36:38.36\00:36:40.73 And just recently, we've bought 160 of these 00:36:40.76\00:36:42.73 some of them in the Arabic language 00:36:42.76\00:36:44.23 and some in different languages from refugees, 00:36:44.27\00:36:47.64 from, in a refugee camp in France 00:36:47.67\00:36:49.34 who have been Kurdish refugees that they have these now. 00:36:49.37\00:36:52.41 Wow. Wow. 00:36:52.44\00:36:53.78 You know, you forgive me, if I gush a little. 00:36:53.81\00:36:55.84 Sometimes I'm so proud of my church 00:36:55.88\00:36:58.28 and the intelligentsia in the church. 00:36:58.31\00:37:00.95 People are sitting and thinking, 00:37:00.98\00:37:02.32 how can we get the gospel into this place? 00:37:02.35\00:37:05.45 And get it in such a way that we lift these people up, 00:37:05.49\00:37:08.56 we don't jeopardize their lives, 00:37:08.59\00:37:09.92 we don't jeopardize their living. 00:37:09.96\00:37:11.29 We just give them Jesus and someone who sat down 00:37:11.33\00:37:13.70 and said "Okay, we're gonna do this, 00:37:13.73\00:37:15.26 we're not gonna do that, we're gonna do this, this way, 00:37:15.30\00:37:17.27 we're not gonna do that and it's working, 00:37:17.30\00:37:19.53 you know, things are happening. 00:37:19.57\00:37:20.90 Yes. Amazing. 00:37:20.94\00:37:22.27 But we're not the largest church 00:37:22.30\00:37:23.64 in the world, but we have the largest mission 00:37:23.67\00:37:26.51 of any church. 00:37:26.54\00:37:27.88 Yes. Yes. 00:37:27.91\00:37:29.24 We cannot say "Well, this group take that area, 00:37:29.28\00:37:31.48 this group take that area." 00:37:31.51\00:37:32.85 Because we have the three angels' message 00:37:32.88\00:37:36.12 that the Book of Revelation says must go to every nation, 00:37:36.15\00:37:39.12 kindred, tongue and people, that's as flying, 00:37:39.15\00:37:41.76 flying in the midst of heaven. 00:37:41.79\00:37:43.39 This thing is not three people on bicycles. 00:37:43.43\00:37:46.03 It's not even three people in cars. 00:37:46.06\00:37:49.03 They're flying in the midst of heaven 00:37:49.06\00:37:50.53 and that's where our signals are going 00:37:50.57\00:37:52.33 television, radio, internet. 00:37:52.37\00:37:54.14 They're all flying in the midst of heaven 00:37:54.17\00:37:57.31 and in the very, violent, hostile world 00:37:57.34\00:38:01.54 in which we live today. 00:38:01.58\00:38:02.91 It's a reality even though we don't suffer 00:38:02.94\00:38:04.61 that directly ourselves. 00:38:04.65\00:38:07.82 This is the only way we can get to 00:38:07.85\00:38:10.89 perhaps the majority. 00:38:10.92\00:38:12.52 Perhaps more than 50% of the world 00:38:12.55\00:38:14.42 can only be reached by air. 00:38:14.46\00:38:16.22 Yeah Yeah. 00:38:16.26\00:38:17.59 You know, by the media. 00:38:17.63\00:38:18.96 And I think that, that point 00:38:18.99\00:38:20.33 and we're going to come to you shortly, 00:38:20.36\00:38:21.70 you're getting ready to whip out 00:38:21.73\00:38:23.06 some miracle stuff for me, I'm glad to get it, 00:38:23.10\00:38:24.77 to emphasize that there are things are so 00:38:24.80\00:38:29.40 and I have to say this in relative terms, 00:38:29.44\00:38:31.51 relatively tranquil here in the States 00:38:31.54\00:38:33.91 that we can scarcely imagine let alone, 00:38:33.94\00:38:36.85 really step into the idea that there are people 00:38:36.88\00:38:38.71 who are suffering for their faith. 00:38:38.75\00:38:40.08 Oh, yeah, that's right. 00:38:40.12\00:38:41.45 And that to be found with one of these. 00:38:41.48\00:38:42.82 Yeah. 00:38:42.85\00:38:44.19 Or to be discovered with one of these 00:38:44.22\00:38:45.55 could cost you your freedom, your life, your job, 00:38:45.59\00:38:46.92 your vocation, or even, even more, 00:38:46.96\00:38:48.49 that's, that's the reality is it not? 00:38:48.52\00:38:50.19 We can tell you a little miracle story 00:38:50.23\00:38:51.66 about North Korea. 00:38:51.69\00:38:53.03 If you buy a Shortwave radio in North Korea, 00:38:53.06\00:38:54.40 it only has one frequency 00:38:54.43\00:38:56.10 and it's stuck on that frequency, you can only listen 00:38:56.13\00:38:58.13 to the propaganda from North Korea. 00:38:58.17\00:38:59.50 Yes. 00:38:59.53\00:39:00.87 Jeffrey has a story that can tell you about 00:39:00.90\00:39:02.24 how we do something up there. 00:39:02.27\00:39:03.61 Well, there's a balloon warfare going on 00:39:03.64\00:39:07.34 in the Korea's South and North. 00:39:07.38\00:39:09.78 The North sends propaganda South by balloon, 00:39:09.81\00:39:12.75 the South sends propaganda North by balloon. 00:39:12.78\00:39:15.25 Do you think in which way the wind is blowing? 00:39:15.28\00:39:16.62 We send radios and Christian literature 00:39:16.65\00:39:20.56 and food and clothing 00:39:20.59\00:39:22.12 and even hard currency by balloon... 00:39:22.16\00:39:24.56 Are you kidding? Into the North. 00:39:24.59\00:39:25.93 Wow! 00:39:25.96\00:39:27.30 We don't talk a lot about that because it could endanger. 00:39:27.33\00:39:29.13 Oh, yeah. 00:39:29.16\00:39:30.50 Our folk go to the 38th parallel 00:39:30.53\00:39:32.50 on a dark moonless night or an overcast day 00:39:32.53\00:39:35.04 when the wind is blowing gently to the North 00:39:35.07\00:39:37.61 and they launch these radios and other material in balloons. 00:39:37.64\00:39:42.54 Some balloons are this size, they can put a steps to Christ 00:39:42.58\00:39:44.98 or a piece of literature to in it. 00:39:45.01\00:39:46.92 Some are 8 feet tall in this size 00:39:46.95\00:39:50.49 and they can put clothing and food and radios. 00:39:50.52\00:39:52.69 Wow! 00:39:52.72\00:39:54.06 Folks slip into the mountains wear them, 00:39:54.09\00:39:55.92 they come down in the forest at night, 00:39:55.96\00:39:58.69 it's a death sentence if they're caught with this, 00:39:58.73\00:40:01.13 but if you were starving and your neighbor said 00:40:01.16\00:40:02.83 "I found some food." 00:40:02.86\00:40:04.23 Where'd you get that radio you're listening?" 00:40:04.27\00:40:06.03 I found it in a balloon. 00:40:06.07\00:40:07.74 You'd go and you'd go look for one. 00:40:07.77\00:40:10.67 Yeah. Yeah. 00:40:10.71\00:40:12.37 So that's how we get it 00:40:12.41\00:40:13.74 into any place like North Korea. 00:40:13.78\00:40:17.05 Sometimes our folk prolong the... 00:40:17.08\00:40:18.81 Did God bless them to do. 00:40:18.85\00:40:20.28 Prolong the bay and launch them off of boats. 00:40:20.32\00:40:21.98 Yeah. 00:40:22.02\00:40:23.35 They can be shot out sometimes, but we got to get it in. 00:40:23.39\00:40:25.99 There are 38 million of God's people in North Korea 00:40:26.02\00:40:28.99 that have to get the gospel some way. 00:40:29.02\00:40:31.89 So the radios again as Ed said they are mechanical preacher 00:40:31.93\00:40:36.30 if you will, going where a live preacher 00:40:36.33\00:40:40.47 on pain of death at this moment cannot. 00:40:40.50\00:40:41.87 Right. 00:40:41.90\00:40:43.24 Now this is something 00:40:43.27\00:40:44.61 and I want to get to those miracle stories, 00:40:44.64\00:40:45.97 I'd like to talk more in just a moment. 00:40:46.01\00:40:47.34 This is something I did not know about, but this is, 00:40:47.38\00:40:49.58 this is frontline evangelism. 00:40:49.61\00:40:53.08 This is, you know, they're sending radios 00:40:53.11\00:40:55.72 by balloon into North Korea. 00:40:55.75\00:41:01.72 You know, sometimes you're so proud of God, 00:41:01.76\00:41:03.09 you don't know what to do. 00:41:03.12\00:41:04.46 You know it's just... 00:41:04.49\00:41:06.06 Would you say it's a miracle on any day? 00:41:06.09\00:41:07.50 Sometimes you're just proud of the Lord. 00:41:07.53\00:41:09.23 We hear so much about North Korea. 00:41:09.26\00:41:10.80 We hear about the testing and this and that you know. 00:41:10.83\00:41:13.34 Well, God's people are sending the gospel 00:41:13.37\00:41:16.44 in to North Korea via radio 00:41:16.47\00:41:19.54 along with food and other staples 00:41:19.57\00:41:21.84 that they otherwise would not have, that's something 00:41:21.88\00:41:25.65 that ought to be at the top of your prayer list 00:41:25.68\00:41:27.22 or certainly among the most important things 00:41:27.25\00:41:28.98 that you are praying about 00:41:29.02\00:41:30.35 because this is a group of people 00:41:30.39\00:41:31.85 who are not going to get the gospel any other way 00:41:31.89\00:41:34.52 than those of good faith 00:41:34.56\00:41:35.89 who try to do that and forgive me for... 00:41:35.92\00:41:37.26 As Ed mentioned the radios that are sold in North Korea 00:41:37.29\00:41:41.33 only accept the government channel, 00:41:41.36\00:41:43.10 not the international channels. 00:41:43.13\00:41:44.47 Yeah. 00:41:44.50\00:41:45.83 The ones we send up by balloon, 00:41:45.87\00:41:47.20 we've already pre-tuned them to the AWR station out of Guam. 00:41:47.24\00:41:51.67 And we also include a radio log in there. 00:41:51.71\00:41:54.38 So they know when the various programs are on. 00:41:54.41\00:41:56.85 Yes. 00:41:56.88\00:41:58.21 And so it's a marvelous tool. 00:41:58.25\00:42:02.88 Oh, it is. Yes. It's a marvelous tool. 00:42:02.92\00:42:04.99 I want to add one other thing because we have some stories 00:42:05.02\00:42:07.19 and some letters we want to share with you as well 00:42:07.22\00:42:08.86 in the last few minutes but, you know, 00:42:08.89\00:42:11.76 that we're told that in the last moments of time 00:42:11.79\00:42:13.90 that will go rapidly. 00:42:13.93\00:42:15.26 Yes, yes, yes. 00:42:15.30\00:42:16.63 So here's what we're doing now in addition to Shortwave, 00:42:16.67\00:42:18.90 AM-FM, and the little ambassadors 00:42:18.93\00:42:20.67 and so on, we're using the internet 00:42:20.70\00:42:22.10 like I'm sure you guys are. 00:42:22.14\00:42:24.07 But for the last seven years, we've been on internet 00:42:24.11\00:42:28.64 and we have a company now "Mediator" 00:42:28.68\00:42:30.01 that's taken the 30 minute radio programs 00:42:30.05\00:42:32.08 and translated them digitally, 00:42:32.11\00:42:33.95 so they can be put on the internet. 00:42:33.98\00:42:35.55 So if you go to AWR.org, it will ask the question, 00:42:35.58\00:42:37.95 which language do you prefer? 00:42:37.99\00:42:39.32 And you can choose one of 100 languages 00:42:39.35\00:42:41.19 and download 30 minute programs 00:42:41.22\00:42:43.32 to listen to on your iPhone or iPad 00:42:43.36\00:42:45.49 or your whatever your device is. 00:42:45.53\00:42:47.70 Device is, sure. 00:42:47.73\00:42:49.06 And would you like to know 00:42:49.10\00:42:50.43 how many are being downloaded now? 00:42:50.47\00:42:51.80 So far in 2017, half of the year 800 million, 00:42:51.83\00:42:55.20 30 minute programs have been downloaded. 00:42:55.24\00:42:57.21 That's 57, 30 minute programs are downloaded every second. 00:42:57.24\00:43:00.41 Every second. Wow! 00:43:00.44\00:43:01.78 Five million a day and the main languages 00:43:01.81\00:43:04.01 are those languages of India, China 00:43:04.05\00:43:06.38 and the Arabic speaking countries. 00:43:06.41\00:43:08.35 It's just amazing. It counts it. 00:43:34.44\00:43:36.04 And that's what it is talking about 800 million 00:43:36.08\00:43:38.91 so far this year, it's just. 00:43:38.95\00:43:40.28 Yeah. 00:43:40.32\00:43:41.65 It's thrilling to us because we all want to see Jesus come. 00:43:41.68\00:43:44.35 Amen, amen. 00:43:44.39\00:43:45.72 And by seeing these kind of numbers, 00:43:45.75\00:43:47.26 we know that the gospel is getting out there. 00:43:47.29\00:43:49.76 God is not waiting for the world 00:43:49.79\00:43:51.13 to get worse before He comes. 00:43:51.16\00:43:52.63 He's waiting for all of his children to hear. 00:43:52.66\00:43:54.83 Amen. Letters that we get. 00:44:06.54\00:44:09.11 By the way, it's interesting, I've been listening to, 00:44:09.14\00:44:11.21 you know, radio and TV most of my life, 00:44:11.25\00:44:12.88 but I don't think I've ever written to one. 00:44:12.91\00:44:14.82 That means for everybody that sends a letter, 00:44:14.85\00:44:17.42 there's probably 50 or more that out there listening. 00:44:17.45\00:44:18.79 Precisely. 00:44:18.82\00:44:20.16 But the ones we hear like this "I'm over 70 years old now, 00:44:20.19\00:44:22.56 and I thought, I've seen it all until I found Voice of Hope, 00:44:22.59\00:44:24.49 that's Adventist World Radio's program four years ago. 00:44:24.53\00:44:26.83 I was a communist, an atheist, but now I worship God. 00:44:26.86\00:44:29.76 Voice of Hope has taught me a lot 00:44:29.80\00:44:31.13 and brought me fresh life lessons to me. 00:44:31.17\00:44:33.10 I want to discover the love and mystery of God. 00:44:33.13\00:44:35.44 I want to serve Him." 00:44:35.47\00:44:36.81 And then he says, "The Voice of Hope 00:44:36.84\00:44:38.17 is a good spiritual teacher to me." 00:44:38.21\00:44:39.54 Amen. 00:44:39.57\00:44:40.91 There's another one, "Several months ago," 00:44:40.94\00:44:42.28 that was from China by the way. 00:44:42.31\00:44:43.65 "Several months ago, I bought a Shortwave radio 00:44:43.68\00:44:45.55 and tuned to Voice of Hope. 00:44:45.58\00:44:46.92 Even though the signals are poor, 00:44:46.95\00:44:48.38 the messages are clear and loud. 00:44:48.42\00:44:50.32 My spiritual thirst has been quenched." 00:44:50.35\00:44:52.29 And another one said, 00:44:52.32\00:44:53.66 "I've accepted Christ as my savior. 00:44:53.69\00:44:55.16 There is no church in my area, so AWR is my church." 00:44:55.19\00:44:58.49 Can you imagine being in a place 00:44:58.53\00:44:59.86 where there is no church? 00:44:59.89\00:45:01.23 Yeah. This is incredible. Yeah. 00:45:01.26\00:45:02.60 There's more I can tell you, 00:45:02.63\00:45:03.97 but I'm not going to let Jeff tell you a story too. 00:45:04.00\00:45:06.90 Karina was born into a very wealthy home in Argentina, 00:45:06.94\00:45:11.91 but she had a maid, she had chauffeur 00:45:11.94\00:45:15.08 to take her wherever she need to go. 00:45:15.11\00:45:16.64 But after her father died 00:45:16.68\00:45:18.15 the family's wealth changed dramatically. 00:45:18.18\00:45:22.48 A few years later, she found out that 00:45:22.52\00:45:24.39 her mother was not really her mother. 00:45:24.42\00:45:26.65 She was a child of one of the maids in the family. 00:45:26.69\00:45:30.69 And then when she was about 11, 00:45:30.73\00:45:32.73 her stepfather tried to abuse her. 00:45:32.76\00:45:36.93 And interestingly enough rather than her mother 00:45:36.97\00:45:39.53 throwing this no good man out, she threw her daughter out. 00:45:39.57\00:45:45.84 The mother was involved in satanic worship, 00:45:45.87\00:45:50.45 something called Reubenism. 00:45:50.48\00:45:53.01 And this girl, went, 11 year old girl 00:45:53.05\00:45:55.32 went to live in a Reubenist temple. 00:45:55.35\00:45:58.59 And you can imagine what went on there. 00:45:58.62\00:46:01.09 She sold her soul to the devil. 00:46:01.12\00:46:04.79 And the devil then began encouraging her 00:46:04.83\00:46:07.06 to take her own life and she resisted that. 00:46:07.10\00:46:11.13 She finally got married. 00:46:11.17\00:46:12.50 She thought things would change. 00:46:12.53\00:46:14.07 She had several miscarriages. 00:46:14.10\00:46:16.71 Finally, she had a little boy and a little girl. 00:46:16.74\00:46:19.51 And still the devil was after her 00:46:19.54\00:46:23.51 and he tried to get her to kill her children. 00:46:23.55\00:46:27.42 And she said, I won't kill my children, 00:46:27.45\00:46:29.12 I might kill myself but not my children 00:46:29.15\00:46:31.09 but it kept, kept at her 00:46:31.12\00:46:33.82 and finally said "This is painless, 00:46:33.86\00:46:36.49 just put the children to sleep, 00:46:36.52\00:46:38.63 close all the doors and windows, 00:46:38.66\00:46:40.13 open the oven door, 00:46:40.16\00:46:41.50 turn on the gas and go to sleep and you will never wake up." 00:46:41.53\00:46:45.60 And she thought my pain will be over, you know, 00:46:45.63\00:46:49.44 all of this harassment from the devil. 00:46:49.47\00:46:51.57 Yeah. And the horrible life she had lived. 00:46:51.61\00:46:54.78 She did that. 00:46:54.81\00:46:56.14 She put the children to sleep, she turned on the gas 00:46:56.18\00:47:00.22 and then she thought "I'll turn on my radio 00:47:00.25\00:47:04.12 for a little diversion." 00:47:04.15\00:47:06.49 At that moment a Seventh-day Adventist Voice 00:47:06.52\00:47:10.36 of Hope pastor was preaching a sermon on God, 00:47:10.39\00:47:14.40 and giving one's life to the Lord. 00:47:14.43\00:47:16.83 Wow! 00:47:16.87\00:47:18.20 She turned off the gas 00:47:18.23\00:47:19.57 to listen to the rest of the program 00:47:19.60\00:47:22.97 and gave her heart to the Lord. 00:47:23.00\00:47:24.47 Praise the Lord. Isn't that amazing? 00:47:24.51\00:47:25.84 Praise the Lord. 00:47:25.87\00:47:27.21 I mean that can't be happenstance... 00:47:27.24\00:47:28.58 Yeah. 00:47:28.61\00:47:29.94 That at that very moment... 00:47:29.98\00:47:31.31 Right. There was a program. 00:47:31.35\00:47:32.68 Agreed. 00:47:32.71\00:47:34.05 We need these programs 00:47:34.08\00:47:35.42 because the Lord has different moments 00:47:35.45\00:47:36.79 with different people that he needs to get a message 00:47:36.82\00:47:38.95 instantly to them. 00:47:38.99\00:47:40.46 There's not time to jump in your car 00:47:40.49\00:47:41.92 maybe and drive over there for Bible study, 00:47:41.96\00:47:44.89 but they can be led to tune to a program 00:47:44.93\00:47:48.46 that is just what they needed at that moment. 00:47:48.50\00:47:51.03 Praise the Lord. Powerful, powerful. 00:47:51.07\00:47:54.20 I want to mention... 00:47:54.24\00:47:55.57 Oh! Yes. Just little graphic there. 00:47:55.60\00:47:58.51 I think, they have it out in the studio, anyway, 00:47:58.54\00:48:01.41 there it is. 00:48:01.44\00:48:02.78 This is the new thing for Adventist World Radio. 00:48:02.81\00:48:04.98 Now, we've been broadcasting for 46 years, 00:48:05.01\00:48:07.15 but with Duane McKey now leading out, 00:48:07.18\00:48:08.88 we have a new evangelism focus which is called "AWR360 00:48:08.92\00:48:13.15 Broadcast to Baptism". 00:48:13.19\00:48:14.89 The idea is we're not just entertaining people, 00:48:14.92\00:48:16.66 we're bringing them to Christ. 00:48:16.69\00:48:18.03 Yeah. And that's a big deal. 00:48:18.06\00:48:19.39 So we're gonna add an international Bible School. 00:48:19.43\00:48:21.30 So anybody that tunes in to this programming 00:48:21.33\00:48:23.70 can find a place where they can get 00:48:23.73\00:48:25.40 Bible study lesson and so on. 00:48:25.43\00:48:27.04 And can be in touch with local people that, 00:48:27.07\00:48:29.04 you know, are concerned with their salvation 00:48:29.07\00:48:31.51 and can give them Bible studies 00:48:31.54\00:48:34.28 because you well know that all of the work 00:48:34.31\00:48:36.64 that we do in the media, 00:48:36.68\00:48:38.18 somebody there has to be a personal contact somewhere. 00:48:38.21\00:48:40.55 Yes. And that's what brings them in. 00:48:40.58\00:48:42.32 So it's a new thing but we're very happy for that, 00:48:42.35\00:48:44.72 and the Lord is really, really blessing. 00:48:44.75\00:48:46.89 And more than that now you know, 00:48:46.92\00:48:49.42 that people probably have called 3ABN 00:48:49.46\00:48:50.96 and said "Would you advertise something at my local church? 00:48:50.99\00:48:53.56 Well, that can happen when you have international program. 00:48:53.60\00:48:56.13 But when we do our FMs, 00:48:56.16\00:48:57.53 now we're having local programming there, 00:48:57.57\00:48:59.53 and we say there's going to be an evangelistic meeting 00:48:59.57\00:49:01.77 at a certain place and AWR staff actually comes, 00:49:01.80\00:49:04.91 the speakers to come there and do the programs. 00:49:04.94\00:49:07.41 So in the Philippines, right now this, 00:49:07.44\00:49:09.01 in the next month we're gonna have 00:49:09.04\00:49:10.38 a whole series of evangelistic meetings 00:49:10.41\00:49:12.31 that have been advertised on AWR in the Philippines. 00:49:12.35\00:49:15.82 So this is the kind of thing that's happening now. 00:49:15.85\00:49:17.75 More evangelistic thrust than ever before. 00:49:17.79\00:49:20.16 Yeah. Yeah. 00:49:20.19\00:49:21.52 I'm very, very excited about this, 00:49:21.56\00:49:22.89 and Duane and I've had several discussions on this, 00:49:22.92\00:49:26.29 this idea of not just, okay, we're just gonna broadcast, 00:49:26.33\00:49:28.93 broadcast, broadcast. 00:49:28.96\00:49:30.30 We want to move people 00:49:30.33\00:49:31.67 from broadcast to baptism in the church. 00:49:31.70\00:49:33.77 We want to see the continuum from what we send out 00:49:33.80\00:49:37.14 to what comes in. 00:49:37.17\00:49:38.51 And we want to track that, and we want to know that 00:49:38.54\00:49:40.11 we're having concrete results in the lives of people 00:49:40.14\00:49:43.91 who are consumable we have to offer. 00:49:43.95\00:49:45.41 I think that's a great thing. 00:49:45.45\00:49:46.85 There's one other unique thing I'm just thinking about 00:49:46.88\00:49:49.22 and that is, there's a lot of people 00:49:49.25\00:49:50.69 who are displaced worldwide 00:49:50.72\00:49:52.12 from where they were normally before. 00:49:52.15\00:49:53.49 Yes. 00:49:53.52\00:49:54.86 When we were in Washington D.C. 00:49:54.89\00:49:56.22 and we were living next to some people from Turkey 00:49:56.26\00:49:57.79 and their native language was Arabic 00:49:57.83\00:49:59.26 that they could speak the Turkish language, 00:49:59.29\00:50:00.66 you know, the version of it. 00:50:00.70\00:50:02.33 So you can contact Adventist World Radio 00:50:02.36\00:50:04.97 and get this little paper like this is real cute 00:50:05.00\00:50:07.17 just a little half sheet of paper. 00:50:07.20\00:50:08.80 And it says on here, "I've found something 00:50:08.84\00:50:10.51 that's really blessed my family. 00:50:10.54\00:50:11.87 Would you like to encourage you to listen as well?" 00:50:11.91\00:50:14.44 So they can listen on the internet by... 00:50:14.48\00:50:16.58 You get this in their language. 00:50:16.61\00:50:18.81 For example, if I lived next door to people 00:50:18.85\00:50:20.98 who spoke Spanish and I didn't, 00:50:21.02\00:50:22.52 I would say get one of these in Spanish 00:50:22.55\00:50:24.09 and hand it to them as they read this, 00:50:24.12\00:50:25.45 and that will give them the way 00:50:25.49\00:50:26.82 they can get on Adventist World Radio 00:50:26.86\00:50:28.19 and listen in their own language. 00:50:28.22\00:50:29.56 Excellent. 00:50:29.59\00:50:30.93 I'm talking about even in the United States 00:50:30.96\00:50:32.29 because we have lots of people there for many, many languages 00:50:32.33\00:50:34.20 and in almost every one of those languages 00:50:34.23\00:50:35.56 we have Adventist World Radio. 00:50:35.60\00:50:36.93 Yes. You can actually share with your neighbors. 00:50:36.97\00:50:38.70 Get this, you can go online to AWR.org 00:50:38.73\00:50:42.94 and you can click on the language you want 00:50:42.97\00:50:46.07 and you can hit print on your own computer 00:50:46.11\00:50:49.04 and print off this little half sheet 00:50:49.08\00:50:51.01 and give it you to your hairdresser 00:50:51.05\00:50:52.91 who maybe speaks Arabic 00:50:52.95\00:50:54.32 or your barber who speaks Spanish. 00:50:54.35\00:50:56.95 Yes. 00:50:56.99\00:50:58.32 And as Ed says many of these are displaced people. 00:50:58.35\00:51:00.76 They would love to hear a language from back home. 00:51:00.79\00:51:03.93 And our program is going to be spoken in a language 00:51:03.96\00:51:08.03 of someone from their country. 00:51:08.06\00:51:09.83 So it's affective tool for displaced people 00:51:09.86\00:51:13.10 as Ed says right here in the United States who, 00:51:13.13\00:51:16.17 for whom maybe they don't speak English 00:51:16.20\00:51:19.01 or they speak English very poorly 00:51:19.04\00:51:20.88 or they just would like to hear a voice from back home. 00:51:20.91\00:51:23.55 Yeah, even if you did, you want to hear 00:51:23.58\00:51:24.91 something little familiar one, for sure. 00:51:24.95\00:51:26.28 And they're hearing a voice from back home 00:51:26.31\00:51:27.65 but that voice is a Christian voice 00:51:27.68\00:51:29.62 at this time, teaching them about Jesus. 00:51:29.65\00:51:31.59 Yes, Yes, you know, you don't think, 00:51:31.62\00:51:32.99 there are large numbers of people 00:51:33.02\00:51:34.36 who have been forced to leave their homeland. 00:51:34.39\00:51:35.82 Absolutely. 00:51:35.86\00:51:37.19 A lot of in the States, they're all over, 00:51:37.23\00:51:38.56 all over the world 00:51:38.59\00:51:39.93 and they would like to get something comforting 00:51:39.96\00:51:41.30 from their home. 00:51:41.33\00:51:42.66 Now I want to do this. 00:51:42.70\00:51:44.03 We need to go to our contact information. 00:51:44.07\00:51:45.40 If you've heard something that has sort of tantalized you 00:51:45.43\00:51:48.07 or that has encouraged you and inspired you, 00:51:48.10\00:51:50.34 and you want to give support to Adventist World Radio, 00:51:50.37\00:51:52.97 you have seen during the last several moments, 00:51:53.01\00:51:54.88 the wonderful things that they're doing, 00:51:54.91\00:51:57.05 the kinds of areas that they're going into 00:51:57.08\00:51:58.98 that really no other ministry can go into like they are. 00:51:59.01\00:52:02.68 Should you want to support this ministry, 00:52:02.72\00:52:04.82 to pray for them, to contact them, 00:52:04.85\00:52:07.06 here's how you can do precisely that. 00:52:07.09\00:52:09.59 If you'd like to learn more about Adventist World Radio 00:52:13.13\00:52:16.23 or would like to support their ministry, 00:52:16.26\00:52:18.07 you can do so by writing to Adventist World Radio, 00:52:18.10\00:52:21.94 12501, Old Columbia Pike, Silver Spring, Maryland 20904. 00:52:21.97\00:52:28.44 That's 12501, Old Columbia Pike, 00:52:28.48\00:52:32.21 Silver Spring, Maryland 20904. 00:52:32.25\00:52:36.12 You can call them at 301-680-6304 00:52:36.15\00:52:40.29 or 800-337-4297. 00:52:40.32\00:52:44.63 You can also visit them online at AWR.org. 00:52:44.66\00:52:48.80 That's AWR.org. 00:52:48.83\00:52:51.93
