On Mexico missions. 00:05:10.31\00:05:12.07 Okay, so Mexico missions and now here you are... 00:05:12.11\00:05:15.21 At Laurelbrook Academy, as a president, 00:05:15.24\00:05:17.08 could you imagine? 00:05:17.11\00:05:18.45 So how did God do that quickly before 00:05:18.48\00:05:19.81 we talk about Laurelbrook Academy? 00:05:19.85\00:05:21.38 Okay, I was building churches and the conference, 00:05:21.42\00:05:24.42 the union had asked me to build 100 churches. 00:05:24.45\00:05:27.26 In Mexico? Yes, I'm thinking... 00:05:27.29\00:05:28.62 Wow, what a glory! 00:05:28.66\00:05:29.99 I only did one or two a year, how do you do a 100? 00:05:30.03\00:05:31.89 So that meant I had to leave my job 00:05:31.93\00:05:33.36 and go forward full time. 00:05:33.40\00:05:35.80 What was your job at that point? 00:05:35.83\00:05:37.17 I had a body shop in Manton, Michigan. 00:05:37.20\00:05:39.83 And so we were working there and so we did, 00:05:39.87\00:05:42.57 we jumped off the end of the earth, 00:05:42.60\00:05:43.94 and we're down to build those churches, 00:05:43.97\00:05:46.24 and then Laurelbrook gave me a call to, 00:05:46.27\00:05:49.04 to look into being the president of Laurelbrook. 00:05:49.08\00:05:51.05 I said, no, I'm doing a lot of churches, 00:05:51.08\00:05:54.42 the work is growing fast for me in Mexico. 00:05:54.45\00:05:57.29 And we had just started training school in Belize. 00:05:57.32\00:05:59.99 And as I was in that training school 00:06:00.02\00:06:03.02 my son Jeff said, dad, this is big! 00:06:03.06\00:06:06.39 Think about what you're saying! 00:06:06.43\00:06:07.96 Don't tell them no, pray about it. 00:06:08.00\00:06:09.93 And I prayed about it 00:06:09.96\00:06:11.30 and the Lord kept impressing me to do it. 00:06:11.33\00:06:12.80 I said, no, Lord, I'm already, I'm already old, you know, 00:06:12.83\00:06:16.40 and how can these guys do with this. 00:06:16.44\00:06:18.11 But, no, we really felt the call, 00:06:18.14\00:06:20.94 and God is blessing me at Laurelbrook 00:06:20.98\00:06:23.18 with these young people. 00:06:23.21\00:06:24.61 And it's just like doing Mexico missions 00:06:24.65\00:06:27.68 all the time because just not once a year 00:06:27.72\00:06:29.78 I get to be with these guys 24/7. 00:06:29.82\00:06:32.25 So you and your wife are called to 00:06:32.29\00:06:34.09 or you actually accepted the call 00:06:34.12\00:06:35.86 a number of years ago. 00:06:35.89\00:06:37.23 How many years ago? This is our third year. 00:06:37.26\00:06:39.59 I know, I'm running a nursing home, academy, 00:06:39.63\00:06:43.50 and it's amazing what God can do for and through us. 00:06:43.53\00:06:46.20 Amen. Oh, yeah, amen. 00:06:46.23\00:06:47.80 Can I go back for one moment? 00:06:47.84\00:06:49.17 My mind is still stuck back with the satellite dishes. 00:06:49.20\00:06:51.34 What did you do with those satellite dishes? 00:06:51.37\00:06:53.27 Oh, Jim Acher would grab them, 00:06:53.31\00:06:55.74 him and my son. 00:06:55.78\00:06:57.11 They put them on the side of the building and... 00:06:57.15\00:06:58.61 In Mexico? 00:06:58.65\00:06:59.98 In Mexico, we'd even bring down televisions, you know... 00:07:00.02\00:07:02.75 I forget about that. 00:07:02.78\00:07:04.12 In those trailers, you know, that's where they lived. 00:07:04.15\00:07:05.79 You know, they were banging around, 00:07:05.82\00:07:07.19 but we put them on the side of those 00:07:07.22\00:07:08.92 with the receivers inside, 00:07:08.96\00:07:10.29 the elders would take care of them, and... 00:07:10.33\00:07:12.63 In churches, homes, schools, where do you put them? 00:07:12.66\00:07:14.76 Normally in churches. Okay. 00:07:14.80\00:07:16.13 If the home was closed, we would do both. 00:07:16.16\00:07:18.37 But that's, and then when they lit up their eyes 00:07:18.40\00:07:21.64 when that 3ABN would kick on. 00:07:21.67\00:07:24.01 And I remember sitting in a church in Poza Rica 00:07:24.04\00:07:27.14 and a family walked in, and all they knew was 3ABN. 00:07:27.18\00:07:32.18 They've never had any other contact with anyone. 00:07:32.21\00:07:34.62 And so they announced that in front of church, you know, 00:07:34.65\00:07:36.99 that I Praise God for 3ABN. 00:07:37.02\00:07:38.65 You know, and this is what's exciting 00:07:38.69\00:07:40.02 because here in a little bit you're actually gonna find out 00:07:40.06\00:07:41.82 how Laurelbrook and Mexico missions 00:07:41.86\00:07:44.39 are still actually involved, and that's really neat. 00:07:44.43\00:07:47.00 But take us to Laurelbrook 00:07:47.03\00:07:48.46 because there's somebody at home 00:07:48.50\00:07:49.83 that says Laurelbrook, almost sounds like a plant 00:07:49.86\00:07:51.93 or a creek, or maybe there is a creek, Laurelbrook creek. 00:07:51.97\00:07:55.17 But tell us what Laurelbrook is all about 00:07:55.20\00:07:57.17 and, yeah, the academy. 00:07:57.21\00:07:58.71 Tell us a little bit about it? The academy started in 1950. 00:07:58.74\00:08:01.64 So it's been in existence a long time, 00:08:01.68\00:08:04.31 and they followed the Madison model 00:08:04.35\00:08:07.38 which is the model of work-study, 00:08:07.42\00:08:09.88 you work for four hours, you study for four hours. 00:08:09.92\00:08:12.45 And it's very successful. 00:08:12.49\00:08:14.52 In the Spirit of Prophecy as it brings that out. 00:08:14.56\00:08:16.83 And so and that's what we do it at Laurelbrook. 00:08:16.86\00:08:18.56 So what my part is, the reason God has called me, 00:08:18.59\00:08:22.20 to re-bring missions back, 00:08:22.23\00:08:24.13 but not only missions but trades, 00:08:24.17\00:08:26.94 teaching the trades again. 00:08:26.97\00:08:28.54 And so Ellen White says we need two trades, you know. 00:08:28.57\00:08:31.57 Well, my boys, they know two or three, 00:08:31.61\00:08:33.54 and they've been very successful using those. 00:08:33.58\00:08:35.74 So we do the same thing with young people, 00:08:35.78\00:08:37.65 they need trades and academics. 00:08:37.68\00:08:41.12 So our kids go on to college, yes, 00:08:41.15\00:08:43.49 or let's say that you're not gonna go to college, 00:08:43.52\00:08:46.15 you just want to have a vocational training. 00:08:46.19\00:08:48.79 We have a diploma for that too. 00:08:48.82\00:08:50.66 So we have the different aspects 00:08:50.69\00:08:52.49 for the young people to do. 00:08:52.53\00:08:53.86 Okay, so what you're saying then is at Laurelbrook 00:08:53.90\00:08:55.76 you have some trades that you teach. 00:08:55.80\00:08:57.13 Yes. 00:08:57.17\00:08:58.50 They're, okay, so give me 00:08:58.53\00:08:59.87 some trades that you teach at Laurelbrook Academy. 00:08:59.90\00:09:01.24 Oh, I love to. 00:09:01.27\00:09:02.60 Because we have a nursing home, 00:09:02.64\00:09:03.97 so we have the culinary with the kitchen. 00:09:04.01\00:09:06.81 We have the CNA classes. 00:09:06.84\00:09:08.84 We have the vocational with the auto mechanics. 00:09:08.88\00:09:12.51 We have the ASC certification that we give at the school. 00:09:12.55\00:09:16.25 As if to academy students? Yes. 00:09:16.28\00:09:18.65 So when they graduate they have these degrees 00:09:18.69\00:09:21.32 and Jairit right here, she is, 00:09:21.36\00:09:24.56 she could run the kitchen at the nursing home. 00:09:24.59\00:09:26.76 Let me tell you, now, that's fast paced. 00:09:26.80\00:09:28.90 A lot of adults can't but this girl can. 00:09:28.93\00:09:31.93 And so these are some of the things. 00:09:31.97\00:09:33.34 We also, we do construction. 00:09:33.37\00:09:35.87 We have welding. 00:09:35.90\00:09:37.24 If I have a short story for you, we... 00:09:37.27\00:09:40.61 our garbage, just our garbage pick up 00:09:40.64\00:09:42.84 was 350 a month and that's okay. 00:09:42.88\00:09:44.51 And then it went to 600. 00:09:44.55\00:09:46.15 And then it went to almost 1100 and 1200 a month. 00:09:46.18\00:09:49.98 And so I said, let's buy a garbage truck. 00:09:50.02\00:09:51.79 So we bought a garbage truck, but didn't have any dumpsters 00:09:51.82\00:09:54.76 and so we bought the metal, we made our own, 00:09:54.79\00:09:56.89 when you see our dumpsters 00:09:56.93\00:09:58.26 they're perfect and these kids... 00:09:58.29\00:09:59.63 They made them, the kids made them? 00:09:59.66\00:10:01.00 Yeah, the kids made them. So they welded them? 00:10:01.03\00:10:02.36 They welded them. 00:10:02.40\00:10:03.73 When you weld a foot, you know, maybe you can weld. 00:10:03.77\00:10:05.10 But when you weld 20 feet, amen? 00:10:05.13\00:10:06.87 And they just did, I could say they just welded 00:10:06.90\00:10:08.80 and they were just running around 00:10:08.84\00:10:10.17 and then they painted them, they looked great. 00:10:10.21\00:10:12.87 And so that's Laurelbrook. Yeah. 00:10:12.91\00:10:14.98 We learn by doing, 00:10:15.01\00:10:16.51 and we're teaching those trades. 00:10:16.54\00:10:18.11 So let me ask you, Leilani, 00:10:18.15\00:10:19.48 so there's the work study that goes on. 00:10:19.51\00:10:22.25 What work have you done? 00:10:22.28\00:10:23.62 What do you enjoy doing far as the vocational part there 00:10:23.65\00:10:25.95 at Laurelbrook? 00:10:25.99\00:10:28.16 So the first quarter, I worked in the canvassing program, 00:10:28.19\00:10:31.53 and then last quarter I worked in the same kitchen, 00:10:31.56\00:10:34.70 and that was really fun, 00:10:34.73\00:10:37.07 and I also like canvassing a lot, 00:10:37.10\00:10:39.30 but this quarter I'm working institutional cleaning, 00:10:39.33\00:10:41.30 so like I'm cleaning the cafeteria, 00:10:41.34\00:10:43.14 the outbuilding, the school, the church. 00:10:43.17\00:10:45.21 That's not so fun but... 00:10:45.24\00:10:48.11 Still needs to be done. It builds character, right? 00:10:48.14\00:10:50.55 It does. It does. 00:10:50.58\00:10:52.55 So when you do canvassing, colporteuring, 00:10:52.58\00:10:54.88 what type of books do you sell and how many days you do that? 00:10:54.92\00:11:00.06 We sell, we'd have Ellen White books 00:11:00.09\00:11:02.89 and we also have like kids' books, 00:11:02.92\00:11:04.73 Bible story books, and we also have health books, 00:11:04.76\00:11:07.86 we have like a cookbook, 00:11:07.90\00:11:09.23 and a couple of other health books as well. 00:11:09.26\00:11:10.97 Nice. And how many days do you do that? 00:11:11.00\00:11:14.24 Is it two days a week you go out and do that or... 00:11:14.27\00:11:18.24 It's four days a week 00:11:18.27\00:11:19.97 and then I also join the Sunday canvassing program, 00:11:20.01\00:11:22.51 so I was doing it five days a week. 00:11:22.54\00:11:24.75 So you really like it? Mm-hmm. 00:11:24.78\00:11:27.05 You know, I really like the work study in a program. 00:11:27.08\00:11:28.42 It's good. 00:11:28.45\00:11:29.78 It is good, you know because it's good, you know, 00:11:29.82\00:11:31.15 you're working your mind on the academic part 00:11:31.19\00:11:33.02 and then you get some actual physical activity of some sort. 00:11:33.05\00:11:35.46 And I probably should be careful, 00:11:35.49\00:11:36.83 you can help me on this 00:11:36.86\00:11:38.19 but when I'm talking about the students' work, 00:11:38.23\00:11:39.56 I know we need to be careful of like, 00:11:39.59\00:11:41.73 you know, not working like the child labor stuff, right. 00:11:41.76\00:11:44.07 So maybe work, what I just said wasn't correct. 00:11:44.10\00:11:46.74 We use volunteer labor. 00:11:46.77\00:11:48.10 You know, those things like this, but, you know, 00:11:48.14\00:11:49.94 back to, back to her, she loves the Lord, 00:11:49.97\00:11:53.81 and the canvassing program, and things, 00:11:53.84\00:11:56.68 but with the freshmen and sophomores 00:11:56.71\00:12:00.12 we tend more to use them as students, if I could say. 00:12:00.15\00:12:05.29 More in the, in the nursing home, 00:12:05.32\00:12:07.99 and different institutions like that 00:12:08.02\00:12:09.79 but when they get Jairit's age. 00:12:09.82\00:12:11.59 Well, now we're certainly keying on 00:12:11.63\00:12:13.70 what you want to do. 00:12:13.73\00:12:15.40 What is your vocation gonna be, 00:12:15.43\00:12:16.90 like she wants to work in accounting. 00:12:16.93\00:12:19.83 Well, she's in that office, she's there. 00:12:19.87\00:12:21.77 But she's already had all the training 00:12:21.80\00:12:23.84 before that and so, 00:12:23.87\00:12:25.21 we credit these juniors in that and the seniors. 00:12:25.24\00:12:29.94 So, Jairit, what have you, what have you done 00:12:29.98\00:12:32.81 when you've been there? 00:12:32.85\00:12:34.68 I've done nearly everything. 00:12:34.72\00:12:37.69 I worked in the kitchen of the nursing home. 00:12:37.72\00:12:40.82 And I became a supervisor. 00:12:40.86\00:12:42.42 I've also been working in the office, 00:12:42.46\00:12:44.79 in the business office. 00:12:44.83\00:12:47.60 I worked in housekeeping. 00:12:47.63\00:12:50.17 I worked in the elementary school 00:12:50.20\00:12:51.63 as the assistant of the teacher. 00:12:51.67\00:12:54.34 And also were always canvassing, translating, 00:12:54.37\00:13:00.24 website. 00:13:00.28\00:13:01.61 I don't know what else. Variety. 00:13:01.64\00:13:03.81 Yeah. Have variety. 00:13:03.85\00:13:05.18 So you're, are you a senior? Yes. 00:13:05.21\00:13:07.58 You're a senior at Laurelbrook. 00:13:07.62\00:13:09.52 And what about you, Leilani, we didn't ask you that. 00:13:09.55\00:13:11.35 I'm a freshman this year. You're a freshman this year. 00:13:11.39\00:13:13.99 Yeah, that's wonderful, and you've been there 00:13:14.02\00:13:15.36 how many years since the freshman? 00:13:15.39\00:13:17.83 Yes, since I was a freshman. That's great. 00:13:17.86\00:13:20.30 And what an opportunity, 00:13:20.33\00:13:21.66 isn't it neat with these young people? 00:13:21.70\00:13:23.03 It is. It's exciting. 00:13:23.06\00:13:24.40 And I spent a little time at Laurelbrook, 00:13:24.43\00:13:25.77 I did some student teaching there in the elementary school. 00:13:25.80\00:13:27.94 This was late, late 90's should I be saying that, 00:13:27.97\00:13:31.37 so it was a few years ago. 00:13:31.41\00:13:33.41 But it was a blessing. 00:13:33.44\00:13:35.71 I worked with Ms Cheryl Orser, 00:13:35.74\00:13:37.08 she was teacher there in that elementary school. 00:13:37.11\00:13:39.88 You know, Miss Orser? Yes. 00:13:39.91\00:13:41.28 Yes. She's still there. 00:13:41.32\00:13:42.88 Yeah, she's a precious woman. 00:13:42.92\00:13:44.75 So do you do any work with the farm as well or not? 00:13:44.79\00:13:47.92 We do have the farm 00:13:47.96\00:13:49.59 and you'll see some pictures here shortly. 00:13:49.62\00:13:51.89 You know, let's go to that actually 00:13:51.93\00:13:53.26 because there's one out that shows 00:13:53.29\00:13:54.63 a beautiful sign of the campus. 00:13:54.66\00:13:56.00 So let's go through these pictures right now. 00:13:56.03\00:13:57.57 This is, boy, now, that's beautiful. 00:13:57.60\00:13:59.37 This is the Laurelbrook... 00:13:59.40\00:14:00.74 The entrance coming in? This is the entrance coming in. 00:14:00.77\00:14:03.64 And then I think we have some pictures following this, 00:14:03.67\00:14:06.31 oh, a Massey Ferguson tractor. 00:14:06.34\00:14:09.41 And we had three of those, one of those 00:14:09.44\00:14:11.28 we gave to Belize to start their project in Belize, 00:14:11.31\00:14:14.52 and were very cheerful. 00:14:14.55\00:14:15.88 So this is part of the, okay, a greenhouse. 00:14:15.92\00:14:19.02 This is part of your agriculture program. 00:14:19.05\00:14:20.56 We do. Wow! Very nice. 00:14:20.59\00:14:23.06 Do you market the produce of strawberries, 00:14:23.09\00:14:24.76 you market it and you sell it outside the school or is it...? 00:14:24.79\00:14:26.59 We consume everything 00:14:26.63\00:14:28.63 if you can imagine these kids eat a lot. 00:14:28.66\00:14:30.90 And so that's the goal... 00:14:30.93\00:14:32.27 Sweet corn... 00:14:32.30\00:14:33.64 Is to consume. Isn't that sweet corn I think? 00:14:33.67\00:14:35.40 It is. It is. A lot of corn. 00:14:35.44\00:14:37.41 Have you picked the corn? Yes. 00:14:37.44\00:14:39.74 We are unique because we call off school 00:14:39.77\00:14:41.84 and we go pick corn. 00:14:41.88\00:14:43.21 All right, and what is this, 00:14:43.24\00:14:44.58 here it looks like we're eating haystacks. 00:14:44.61\00:14:46.05 Jairit, what is this? It's haystacks. 00:14:46.08\00:14:47.98 It is our fall picnic. 00:14:48.02\00:14:50.12 Fall picnic. Fall picnic? Okay. 00:14:50.15\00:14:51.59 Now, where do you go for the picnic? 00:14:51.62\00:14:52.95 Fall Creek Falls it's called. 00:14:52.99\00:14:54.59 We have 1,700 acres at Laurelbrook property. 00:14:54.62\00:14:58.03 So we have waterfalls. 00:14:58.06\00:14:59.39 We have the point, we have all these beauties. 00:14:59.43\00:15:01.16 But we also take the kids off to Fall Creek Falls 00:15:01.20\00:15:04.53 and they take their bikes and ride down, 00:15:04.57\00:15:07.17 my wife does not like that because where are we at? 00:15:07.20\00:15:09.57 We are in the mountains, amen. 00:15:09.60\00:15:11.34 And so we have tried to have an escort before and after 00:15:11.37\00:15:13.98 and sometimes it becomes quite a challenge if you wanna say. 00:15:14.01\00:15:17.11 But, yeah, we take off 00:15:17.15\00:15:18.75 and the kids enjoy their time together. 00:15:18.78\00:15:21.18 You know, that's neat to agriculture too 00:15:21.22\00:15:22.55 because I like the agriculture. 00:15:22.58\00:15:24.09 So this picture is, it looks like some music. 00:15:24.12\00:15:26.69 What is this? Nice. 00:15:55.85\00:15:58.59 Okay, now do you do concerts outside Laurelbrook or...? 00:15:58.62\00:16:01.82 Yeah. 00:16:01.86\00:16:03.19 They just came back from Florida. 00:16:03.22\00:16:05.29 And I believe you guys did four churches? 00:16:05.33\00:16:08.43 Yes. 00:16:08.46\00:16:09.80 And the last church was a first, a Baptist Church. 00:16:09.83\00:16:13.07 Okay. And they loved us. 00:16:13.10\00:16:15.34 They couldn't understand a campus 00:16:15.37\00:16:17.71 like ours willing to come to theirs. 00:16:17.74\00:16:20.21 You know, and they were just thrilled with the music. 00:16:20.24\00:16:23.38 So the outreach we're getting, we're still getting phone calls 00:16:23.41\00:16:26.85 and funding from that church 00:16:26.88\00:16:29.68 and they want to send students to us. 00:16:29.72\00:16:32.02 Just the impact these young people 00:16:32.05\00:16:33.59 are making on these churches is tremendous. 00:16:33.62\00:16:35.42 That's wonderful. 00:16:35.46\00:16:36.79 So we talk about the impact you're making on the churches 00:16:36.83\00:16:38.56 but what about the impact Laurelbrook 00:16:38.59\00:16:40.70 or being at Laurelbrook has made on you. 00:16:40.73\00:16:42.80 We'll start with you, Jairit, what have you learned 00:16:42.83\00:16:45.60 or grown or what has been your experience? 00:16:45.63\00:16:51.21 Oh, my experience at Laurelbrook 00:16:51.24\00:16:52.57 has been a blessing. 00:16:52.61\00:16:53.94 I learned in the short time I've been there 00:16:53.98\00:16:57.31 that there is no difficulties too impossible for God 00:16:57.35\00:17:00.72 because sometimes we tend to limit ourselves 00:17:00.75\00:17:03.59 to what God can do and what cannot do, 00:17:03.62\00:17:06.49 but God is greater than that. 00:17:06.52\00:17:08.26 He is. 00:17:08.29\00:17:10.29 Just the challenge of coming to school at first like 00:17:10.33\00:17:13.66 when I was in Venezuela, like, 00:17:13.70\00:17:15.53 we never thought of that until God opened the way. 00:17:15.56\00:17:18.43 Amen. Amen. 00:17:18.47\00:17:20.70 So you learned dependence on God 00:17:20.74\00:17:22.44 that He can do anything? 00:17:22.47\00:17:23.84 Mm-hmm. That's a great lesson. 00:17:23.87\00:17:27.21 Something I'm learning. 00:17:27.24\00:17:28.58 You know, every day we keep learning that 00:17:28.61\00:17:30.51 and growing, that's beautiful. 00:17:30.55\00:17:32.88 Yeah, what about you, Leliani? 00:17:32.91\00:17:35.35 I've learned how to work mostly 00:17:35.38\00:17:39.72 because we definitely have to work 00:17:39.75\00:17:41.62 and then also like what Jairit said, 00:17:41.66\00:17:43.96 that God can do anything. 00:17:43.99\00:17:45.83 And if you put your expectations high then 00:17:45.86\00:17:48.36 he can fulfill them, 00:17:48.40\00:17:49.73 but if you, if you limit yourself like 00:17:49.76\00:17:52.00 she said, then it doesn't really give Him 00:17:52.03\00:17:54.67 the opportunity. 00:17:54.70\00:17:56.07 But if you give Him the opportunity 00:17:56.10\00:17:58.24 then He will perform miracles. 00:17:58.27\00:18:00.31 Yeah. Amen. 00:18:00.34\00:18:02.18 And so you have academics, vocational training, 00:18:02.21\00:18:06.45 and mission trip. 00:18:06.48\00:18:08.05 So tell us about the mission trips. 00:18:08.08\00:18:10.52 You just got back recently from Mexico, is that right? 00:18:10.55\00:18:12.75 We did. 00:18:12.79\00:18:14.12 So I'm incorporating Mexico missions 00:18:14.16\00:18:15.76 along with Laurelbrook 00:18:15.79\00:18:17.36 and so we're still, I'm taking 85 people. 00:18:17.39\00:18:21.33 Pamela's cooking for over 120 in Mexico. 00:18:21.36\00:18:24.07 So Mexico is coming across and being with us. 00:18:24.10\00:18:26.67 But I want that experience for my students. 00:18:26.70\00:18:29.34 But I don't demand it, they choose it. 00:18:29.37\00:18:31.64 Sure. 00:18:31.67\00:18:33.01 And they're choosing, you know, 00:18:33.04\00:18:34.64 and so it's just fun to watch God 00:18:34.68\00:18:37.91 move mightily on these kids 00:18:37.95\00:18:39.51 because I know when you come back from a mission trip, 00:18:39.55\00:18:40.88 you're different. 00:18:40.92\00:18:42.25 Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. Amen? 00:18:42.28\00:18:43.62 Have you ever been on a mission trip? 00:18:43.65\00:18:44.99 I know you have. Changing for the positive. 00:18:45.02\00:18:46.35 Yes, and for eternity. 00:18:46.39\00:18:47.72 Yeah, that's true, not only my life but others. 00:18:47.76\00:18:49.56 Yes. Isn't that great? 00:18:49.59\00:18:51.03 And the canvassing you know is we canvass in Mexico 00:18:51.06\00:18:54.63 and I used to say, 00:18:54.66\00:18:56.00 I'm not real good in my fluently in my... 00:18:56.03\00:18:57.67 I was gonna ask that because I don't know Spanish 00:18:57.70\00:18:59.53 so if I were going there kind of sell religious book, 00:18:59.57\00:19:01.57 I don't how I would even... 00:19:01.60\00:19:02.94 Oh, you just add an o to everything 00:19:02.97\00:19:04.31 that's kind of what I do. 00:19:04.34\00:19:05.67 I do what? Oh, an o? Add an o. 00:19:05.71\00:19:07.31 Like like real, and so I give them a book. 00:19:07.34\00:19:10.95 Does that work? No. 00:19:10.98\00:19:12.61 Because freeo isn't free in the espanpol, it's gratis, 00:19:12.65\00:19:17.19 I've learned that over the years. 00:19:17.22\00:19:18.55 And so it's gratis 00:19:18.59\00:19:19.92 and so we actually don't sell the books, 00:19:19.95\00:19:22.16 we give them. 00:19:22.19\00:19:23.53 Freeo means cold. Oh, it does. 00:19:23.56\00:19:24.89 Freeo means cold, okay, that's different. 00:19:24.93\00:19:26.73 Not everything works. Okay. 00:19:26.76\00:19:28.26 It tells me, I'm not doing very good in Spanish, yeah. 00:19:28.30\00:19:31.53 And some of these words do, 00:19:31.57\00:19:32.90 but I just take these kids with me and let's go, let's go. 00:19:32.93\00:19:35.37 You guys know the language. Let's go knocking on doors. 00:19:35.40\00:19:38.47 So both of you, did you both go on this most recent trip 00:19:38.51\00:19:41.41 with Laurelbrook to Mexico? 00:19:41.44\00:19:43.68 Yes. So what did you do? 00:19:43.71\00:19:45.45 You did canvassing, colporteuring, 00:19:45.48\00:19:47.08 but did you do anything else in addition to that? 00:19:47.12\00:19:49.88 We helped to build the churches. 00:19:49.92\00:19:52.59 We were there we're passing out bricks, 00:19:52.62\00:19:54.42 we were working as a team, we were laying the blocks, 00:19:54.46\00:19:57.89 helping with the foundation. 00:19:57.93\00:19:59.63 How many churches? Five. 00:19:59.66\00:20:01.66 You built five churches in like two or three months? 00:20:01.70\00:20:05.47 In 10 days. 00:20:05.50\00:20:07.87 Say that again? Ten days. 00:20:07.90\00:20:09.67 Ten days? 00:20:09.70\00:20:11.34 Five churches in ten days? 00:20:11.37\00:20:12.87 And you're there actually literally laying the blocks, 00:20:12.91\00:20:14.28 you're talking like concrete blocks 00:20:14.31\00:20:15.78 with the mortar. 00:20:15.81\00:20:17.18 Oh, there is a picture. Here we go. 00:20:17.21\00:20:19.45 Beautiful. 00:20:19.48\00:20:20.82 If you could see the corners 00:20:20.85\00:20:22.78 we don't do the corners as normal. 00:20:22.82\00:20:25.22 We do speed leads and so each of these kids have a corner 00:20:25.25\00:20:28.56 that they are working with and that wall goes up and so, 00:20:28.59\00:20:33.03 Jairit, you have a spot in that church, 00:20:33.06\00:20:35.13 where is your spot that you worked? 00:20:35.16\00:20:37.80 The corner where the trees closer to that 00:20:37.83\00:20:41.30 one corner right there. 00:20:41.34\00:20:42.87 But it's fun when you're in the church 00:20:42.90\00:20:44.64 and you're dedicating that church 00:20:44.67\00:20:46.31 and Jairit standing there and I saw her pointing 00:20:46.34\00:20:48.38 that's my corner, I built that, you know. 00:20:48.41\00:20:51.41 So you put the blocks, the roof. 00:20:51.45\00:20:54.02 I'm assuming it's a metal roof. It is. 00:20:54.05\00:20:55.85 Okay, and then you put doors, 00:20:55.88\00:20:57.89 windows in or is that done later? 00:20:57.92\00:20:59.25 We do now, we put the foundation is 00:20:59.29\00:21:02.12 in by the church, and they fund the blocks. 00:21:02.16\00:21:04.89 Okay. 00:21:04.93\00:21:06.26 I do the roof and the metal, 00:21:06.29\00:21:07.76 I have a one day church machine, 00:21:07.80\00:21:09.23 if you want to say, a roll machine at Laurelbrook, 00:21:09.26\00:21:11.70 and so we refinance those roofs and the trusses. 00:21:11.73\00:21:16.87 Wow! 00:21:16.91\00:21:18.24 And so they ship them down and we build the churches 00:21:18.27\00:21:20.28 and it's about $2,000 of roof, 00:21:20.31\00:21:23.31 the conference or the churches raise the other, 00:21:23.35\00:21:25.65 so it's kind of a mix between the two. 00:21:25.68\00:21:28.48 Sure. It's not a free church but... 00:21:28.52\00:21:30.82 But what a blessing to that community 00:21:30.85\00:21:32.59 that you go to, yeah, and minister. 00:21:32.62\00:21:34.32 What about you, Leilani, 00:21:34.36\00:21:35.69 what was your responsibility on this recent trip to Mexico? 00:21:35.72\00:21:39.36 Well, I helped with the VBS so like a couple, 00:21:39.39\00:21:43.50 every couple of days, or every day the VBS 00:21:43.53\00:21:48.00 and the Health Expo would go to like a church or a place 00:21:48.04\00:21:51.41 and they would do their health expo 00:21:51.44\00:21:53.34 and we would do VBS with the kids. 00:21:53.38\00:21:55.58 We had two hours. 00:21:55.61\00:21:56.95 And we just started with creation 00:21:56.98\00:21:59.15 and just like went through resurrection, Jesus' birth. 00:21:59.18\00:22:02.52 And then now we came back to the school 00:22:02.55\00:22:06.45 that we are staying at 00:22:06.49\00:22:07.82 and we had about five minutes to go change 00:22:07.86\00:22:11.96 and then we had to go to the evangelistic meeting 00:22:11.99\00:22:15.16 which was an hour away 00:22:15.20\00:22:17.07 and we rode in the back of the truck 00:22:17.10\00:22:18.73 that was very bumpy. 00:22:18.77\00:22:22.07 And then we had VBS for the kids 00:22:22.10\00:22:25.77 while their parents were in the evangelistic meeting. 00:22:25.81\00:22:27.91 Wow! 00:22:27.94\00:22:29.28 So you're building churches during the day, 00:22:29.31\00:22:31.81 somehow you're finding time to fit in colporteuring, 00:22:31.85\00:22:35.62 then in the evening you're doing VBS 00:22:35.65\00:22:37.55 and evangelist meetings. 00:22:37.59\00:22:39.29 Wow! 00:22:39.32\00:22:40.89 Who does the preaching? We all do. 00:22:40.92\00:22:43.69 We all, you know, we kind of separate 00:22:43.73\00:22:46.39 and there's a group from Grand Rapids. 00:22:46.43\00:22:48.86 Jeff Young Group we call them, 00:22:48.90\00:22:50.80 and they come and they put on a program. 00:22:50.83\00:22:52.93 So they took a church, Ernie and Dorothy Toppingberg 00:22:52.97\00:22:56.17 from Michigan, they are a retired couple. 00:22:56.20\00:22:59.41 They go down before us, and they do a church. 00:22:59.44\00:23:02.31 I did a church, the kids preach. 00:23:02.34\00:23:05.15 It's just dynamic to watch 00:23:05.18\00:23:07.28 and they watch them come forward for baptism. 00:23:07.32\00:23:09.52 Oh, wow! That must be something. 00:23:09.55\00:23:12.12 And they're young people, you know, 00:23:12.15\00:23:13.96 when they're there giving that appeal, 00:23:13.99\00:23:17.33 and watching them come. 00:23:17.36\00:23:19.66 It's like life-changing in 10 days, you know. 00:23:19.69\00:23:24.13 Do the local churches follow up or how does that work 00:23:24.17\00:23:27.14 as far as you know the people 00:23:27.17\00:23:28.50 who wanted to come forth and be baptized, 00:23:28.54\00:23:30.01 how does that work? 00:23:30.04\00:23:31.37 I watch and if there's a lot of interest, 00:23:31.41\00:23:32.84 I hire a Bible worker 00:23:32.87\00:23:34.44 because we don't want any fragments left. 00:23:34.48\00:23:36.41 So we hire Bible worker for three months, 00:23:36.44\00:23:39.45 and then we get the reports back of that health expo. 00:23:39.48\00:23:43.25 Sometimes I get 450 Bible studies out of a health expo. 00:23:43.28\00:23:47.06 That's a lot of studies. That's a lot of studies. 00:23:47.09\00:23:49.39 You know, sometimes I get 30, 40 00:23:49.42\00:23:51.23 and still that's overwhelming, you know. 00:23:51.26\00:23:53.23 And so we hire a Bible worker to... 00:23:53.26\00:23:55.60 Work with the local church. 00:23:55.63\00:23:57.00 And to make sure that it's... 00:23:57.03\00:23:59.03 What would be the sense of doing all the work 00:23:59.07\00:24:00.84 and just letting it go? 00:24:00.87\00:24:02.20 No. No. And so we keep going. 00:24:02.24\00:24:05.31 So tell us is there any story, testimony that you can think of 00:24:05.34\00:24:09.28 from your time at the mission trip, 00:24:09.31\00:24:10.78 any one of the three of you that, 00:24:10.81\00:24:12.61 that really spoke to you this last mission trip? 00:24:12.65\00:24:15.68 I do, but I'd like the kids to go ahead 00:24:15.72\00:24:17.95 and share their thoughts and I've got a good one. 00:24:17.99\00:24:20.46 Okay. 00:24:20.49\00:24:21.82 Yeah, Jairit, you have something that comes to mind 00:24:21.86\00:24:24.63 that sticks out that really made an impact 00:24:24.66\00:24:26.16 on this most recent trip or maybe some of the others? 00:24:26.19\00:24:29.73 Is this your first one by the way or...? 00:24:29.76\00:24:31.53 This is my third one. Your third one? Okay. 00:24:31.57\00:24:33.60 So of many of the trips, 00:24:33.64\00:24:34.97 what stuck out to you is a powerful story? 00:24:35.00\00:24:38.44 Okay, there is this one time I was helping with the VBS 00:24:38.47\00:24:43.48 and we left out, I went with the pastor 00:24:43.51\00:24:47.48 and helpers I guess, 00:24:47.52\00:24:50.92 but I was the only one that spoke Spanish. 00:24:50.95\00:24:52.59 Okay. 00:24:52.62\00:24:54.22 So and so we left, went in the car 00:24:54.26\00:24:57.96 but somehow we got lost. 00:24:57.99\00:24:59.39 Oh, no. 00:24:59.43\00:25:00.76 We got in the middle of nowhere in the top of mountain, 00:25:00.80\00:25:02.96 and we just didn't see anybody 00:25:03.00\00:25:05.73 and there was nothing to do. 00:25:05.77\00:25:09.97 And so we were looking for somebody, there was nobody. 00:25:10.01\00:25:14.24 And so we decided to pray. 00:25:14.28\00:25:16.31 So we got down on our knees and we pray. 00:25:16.34\00:25:20.22 And five minutes later, this car comes and he's like, 00:25:20.25\00:25:24.35 "Oh, are you guys lost, did you lose your way?" 00:25:24.39\00:25:28.22 We're like, yes, yes. Please. Yes, we have! 00:25:28.26\00:25:31.33 And then like, oh, 00:25:31.36\00:25:34.13 I just happened to randomly hear this voice 00:25:34.16\00:25:37.23 that told me to come and I'm going to this place, 00:25:37.27\00:25:41.34 and we were like, so we asked the place 00:25:41.37\00:25:43.97 where he was going 00:25:44.01\00:25:45.34 and it was the exact same place. 00:25:45.37\00:25:47.54 So we decided to follow him. 00:25:47.58\00:25:49.91 And we were kind of late like three hours later 00:25:49.94\00:25:52.31 from our actual time that the VBS was going to start. 00:25:52.35\00:25:55.42 It's Mexico... 00:25:55.45\00:25:56.79 And so we thought, oh, well, maybe the kids left, 00:25:56.82\00:25:59.09 they're not home. 00:25:59.12\00:26:01.02 They're doing something but we actually got there, 00:26:01.06\00:26:05.23 we follow this guy, and when we get there, 00:26:05.26\00:26:07.63 the kids are just all waiting in the sidewalk. 00:26:07.66\00:26:10.10 Three hours later they're still there. 00:26:10.13\00:26:11.87 They see the car, they see us, and they're like, 00:26:11.90\00:26:14.37 oh, and they come running. 00:26:14.40\00:26:15.97 Amen. And there was about 70 kids. 00:26:16.00\00:26:18.71 So that was amazing how... 00:26:18.74\00:26:21.14 Now, that's powerful because God spoke to this man. 00:26:21.18\00:26:23.88 Yes. 00:26:23.91\00:26:25.25 You know, it wasn't just accident, 00:26:25.28\00:26:27.52 it was a divine appointment, wasn't it about that? 00:26:27.55\00:26:29.68 Amen. Wow. 00:26:29.72\00:26:31.05 And he sent him along to help you guys find your way 00:26:31.09\00:26:32.52 and the kids were still there for VBS three hours later, 00:26:32.55\00:26:35.39 it's pretty amazing. 00:26:35.42\00:26:36.96 That shows how God is so vested in the soul of each person, 00:26:36.99\00:26:42.50 then you think about each one of those young people 00:26:42.53\00:26:44.93 and God knew that you were gonna have an impact. 00:26:44.97\00:26:47.44 Each one of you as students coming and sharing 00:26:47.47\00:26:49.47 and ministering to them, that's powerful 00:26:49.50\00:26:51.57 and God spoke to that person to tell him. 00:26:51.61\00:26:53.84 Praise God. It's wonderful. 00:26:53.88\00:26:55.51 What about you, Leilani, you have a story. 00:26:55.54\00:26:58.31 Well, I guess it was probably 00:26:58.35\00:27:00.35 near the end of the evangelistic meetings. 00:27:00.38\00:27:02.82 My church actually had the longest 00:27:02.85\00:27:04.19 so we had more time with the kids. 00:27:04.22\00:27:05.89 And then the last day, it was the last day at the VBS 00:27:05.92\00:27:10.26 so we thought we were never gonna see them again 00:27:10.29\00:27:12.49 and so me and my friend Samantha 00:27:12.53\00:27:16.03 who's doing VBS with me, we were almost crying 00:27:16.06\00:27:19.33 but we went yet and then the kids like surrounded us, 00:27:19.37\00:27:22.40 there were like ten kids trying to hug us 00:27:22.44\00:27:23.87 at the same time. 00:27:23.91\00:27:25.94 And then a couple of them started crying 00:27:25.97\00:27:28.08 and then so we were just like bowed. 00:27:28.11\00:27:30.78 And then we actually did get to see them again on Friday 00:27:30.81\00:27:34.32 because that's when we inaugurated the church 00:27:34.35\00:27:37.62 and they were there. 00:27:37.65\00:27:38.99 And that was even worse though 00:27:39.02\00:27:41.56 because we got to see them again 00:27:41.59\00:27:42.92 and they were all happy and we were happy, 00:27:42.96\00:27:45.39 and then when we had to leave and they started crying again, 00:27:45.43\00:27:49.03 and then there is this one little boy 00:27:49.06\00:27:51.13 who was trying to follow the truck 00:27:51.17\00:27:53.67 and he was just walking 00:27:53.70\00:27:55.37 and then we started going faster 00:27:55.40\00:27:56.74 and he was running. 00:27:56.77\00:27:58.11 After the truck? 00:27:58.14\00:27:59.47 And, yeah, and it was like night 00:27:59.51\00:28:00.84 and like so it's dark and he was running 00:28:00.88\00:28:02.21 after the truck 00:28:02.24\00:28:03.58 and then this like dust cloud just comes up 00:28:03.61\00:28:05.48 from the back of the truck he just disappears. 00:28:05.51\00:28:07.48 Oh, wow! 00:28:07.52\00:28:09.05 You know, it's amazing, you think about the impact 00:28:09.08\00:28:10.89 that you made, you know, 00:28:10.92\00:28:12.25 you may never see these young people 00:28:12.29\00:28:13.62 again on this earth, 00:28:13.66\00:28:15.12 but in heaven you think about that in heaven, you know. 00:28:15.16\00:28:17.46 Someone will come to you in heaven and say, 00:28:17.49\00:28:19.06 Leilani, do you remember that VBS, years ago? 00:28:19.09\00:28:23.30 You made an impact on my life. Isn't that awesome? 00:28:23.33\00:28:25.00 They will be able to speak English then. 00:28:25.03\00:28:26.37 Yeah. 00:28:26.40\00:28:27.80 Or the Latinos would say right, Jairit, 00:28:27.84\00:28:30.34 we'll be speaking Spanish, right? 00:28:30.37\00:28:33.44 But the impact and the worth of a soul, that's powerful. 00:28:33.48\00:28:37.31 It is it is. Brother Rich. 00:28:37.35\00:28:40.18 You know, as she's telling the stories, 00:28:40.22\00:28:41.78 we give out stuffed animals and one young girl, you know, 00:28:41.82\00:28:45.99 they always think I remember them. 00:28:46.02\00:28:47.42 Of course I don't. 00:28:47.46\00:28:48.79 But she kept her little penguin for nine years. 00:28:48.82\00:28:50.83 You know, that we had given her nine years ago 00:28:50.86\00:28:52.96 and then she had married and she's starting a church, 00:28:52.99\00:28:55.26 you know, the VBS is so important 00:28:55.30\00:28:57.63 to start to seeds good seed going, 00:28:57.67\00:29:00.14 this year we built five churches, 00:29:00.17\00:29:02.17 the plan was four. 00:29:02.20\00:29:03.54 I said we can't build five, it's impossible. 00:29:03.57\00:29:05.81 We try to do it last year we did it, 00:29:05.84\00:29:07.51 but it was a push. 00:29:07.54\00:29:08.88 We can only do four. Well. 00:29:08.91\00:29:12.21 They had told the churches you're gonna get a church 00:29:12.25\00:29:15.98 and then they changed. 00:29:16.02\00:29:17.35 They dropped one membership 00:29:17.39\00:29:19.62 and said we're gonna do another church over here. 00:29:19.65\00:29:22.42 Well, that broke their heart. 00:29:22.46\00:29:23.79 I know it does because they're looking forward 00:29:23.83\00:29:25.19 to the Mexico missions, 00:29:25.23\00:29:26.76 they're waiting years to get a church. 00:29:26.80\00:29:29.10 And so I went up to Todd Olson, he's our builder I said, Todd, 00:29:29.13\00:29:31.83 can we just squeeze in one more, just one more? 00:29:31.87\00:29:34.90 And so I did. 00:29:34.94\00:29:37.11 I went to the church I said, 00:29:37.14\00:29:38.51 you know you guys got to put your foundation. 00:29:38.54\00:29:40.14 I know everybody else gets three months, 00:29:40.18\00:29:41.71 you gotta do yours in three days. 00:29:41.74\00:29:43.21 I'll be here in three days, if you don't have it, 00:29:43.24\00:29:44.71 I can't do it. 00:29:44.75\00:29:46.08 They had it. They got their church. It's finished. 00:29:46.11\00:29:48.25 And that's the one you see with stucco started on that church. 00:29:48.28\00:29:50.89 Oh, wow! Okay. This one here? 00:29:50.92\00:29:52.55 This one there. That's that church that shouldn't be. 00:29:52.59\00:29:55.32 Wow! That's beautiful. 00:29:55.36\00:29:56.76 The fourth church was on top of a mountain 00:29:56.79\00:29:59.06 and it's the evangelistic center for the area. 00:29:59.09\00:30:01.46 The family that came up to me afterwards they said, Rich, 00:30:01.50\00:30:04.70 we want a school like Laurelbrook right here. 00:30:04.73\00:30:07.44 What can you do? 00:30:07.47\00:30:08.90 I said I don't know. I'm at Laurelbrook. 00:30:08.94\00:30:10.91 I'm not building. And they went. 00:30:10.94\00:30:13.21 And they visit with the family, 00:30:13.24\00:30:16.41 the brother had left the church for some different reason. 00:30:16.44\00:30:20.85 So I went and visited with him. And he got disgruntled. 00:30:20.88\00:30:24.19 And I said, Brother, 00:30:24.22\00:30:25.55 don't get disgruntled with people. 00:30:25.59\00:30:27.26 Know Jesus Christ and you 00:30:27.29\00:30:28.79 and he said there's a prominent church there 00:30:28.82\00:30:31.83 that wanted to buy the land that he wanted to donate 00:30:31.86\00:30:34.73 that his mother wanted to donate 00:30:34.76\00:30:36.63 and it was 2,000 acres. 00:30:36.67\00:30:38.83 And she said to her son is there food on your table. 00:30:38.87\00:30:43.51 He said, yes, mom, there is. Then don't sell it. 00:30:43.54\00:30:46.81 I came. 00:30:46.84\00:30:48.24 They saw the Laurelbrook plan. 00:30:48.28\00:30:50.18 The Bible, The Spirit of Prophecy, 00:30:50.21\00:30:51.88 he wants to donate it to Laurelbrook. 00:30:51.91\00:30:55.15 My question for Rich Sutton is, 00:30:55.18\00:30:56.99 Lord, what do you want me to do? 00:30:57.02\00:30:58.69 I'll do it. 00:30:58.72\00:31:01.02 Miracles, stories, and that's this mission trip. 00:31:01.06\00:31:04.83 What do I do? I don't know. 00:31:04.86\00:31:07.20 Fantastic, it's neat isn't it to see what God has 00:31:07.23\00:31:09.33 let in Laurelbrook in all these years. 00:31:09.36\00:31:10.87 I think you said it started in 1950? 00:31:10.90\00:31:12.83 '50. Yes. Is that right? 00:31:12.87\00:31:14.20 And here it is, even today, 00:31:14.24\00:31:15.57 you know Christian education is so important. 00:31:15.60\00:31:17.07 It is. You know, it was God's plan. 00:31:17.11\00:31:19.61 It is. It really is. 00:31:19.64\00:31:21.31 And now we're gonna do some swapping here 00:31:21.34\00:31:22.68 I know this may seem, I'm sort of used to tradition, 00:31:22.71\00:31:25.71 so if you watch 3ABN today's 00:31:25.75\00:31:27.62 you know we do a little intro in the beginning, 00:31:27.65\00:31:29.35 then we do a little music, then we go to the guests, 00:31:29.38\00:31:30.99 but you notice today we had no music 00:31:31.02\00:31:33.25 and the reason we did that is because during this music 00:31:33.29\00:31:35.69 which we're getting ready to go to, 00:31:35.72\00:31:37.13 we're gonna do a little swapping here 00:31:37.16\00:31:38.49 because we have another student from Laurelbrook, 00:31:38.53\00:31:41.83 that's here and we want to bring Mark. 00:31:41.86\00:31:44.27 We want to bring Mark. By a top. 00:39:50.82\00:39:52.95 Isn't that neat? God uses every method. 00:39:52.99\00:39:56.12 You know, I think about this. 00:39:56.16\00:39:57.49 I can only imagine 00:39:57.53\00:39:58.86 what this must do to your heart. 00:39:58.89\00:40:00.23 It does. 00:40:00.26\00:40:01.60 As you were involved with these young people, 00:40:01.63\00:40:02.96 I know Mexico missions 00:40:03.00\00:40:04.33 and now Laurelbrook for just a few years. 00:40:04.37\00:40:05.73 I mean, what does that do for you 00:40:05.77\00:40:07.10 to see these young people. 00:40:07.14\00:40:08.47 I mean, they're involved in ministry. 00:40:08.50\00:40:09.84 They're involved in this vocational training, 00:40:09.87\00:40:11.77 the academics, and you're seeing young people 00:40:11.81\00:40:14.01 being changed with a positive. 00:40:14.04\00:40:16.54 What does that do for you 00:40:16.58\00:40:17.91 to be involved with Laurelbrook like this? 00:40:17.95\00:40:19.38 It really shows me that God knows 00:40:19.41\00:40:20.75 what He's doing with the call. 00:40:20.78\00:40:22.32 You know, you question, Lord, I'm gonna do it. 00:40:22.35\00:40:24.29 But I think it's more important building 100 churches 00:40:24.32\00:40:26.35 than building 100 kids, you know, but it's not. 00:40:26.39\00:40:29.26 Yeah. 00:40:29.29\00:40:30.63 When you do this and you see them up front, 00:40:30.66\00:40:32.99 and you see they're change forever. 00:40:33.03\00:40:34.46 That not only changed them, their families, 00:40:34.50\00:40:36.63 and all they come in contact with too. 00:40:36.67\00:40:38.43 It just spreads. 00:40:38.47\00:40:39.80 I was just gonna say that, with the spreading, 00:40:39.83\00:40:41.34 because you make an impact on an individual, you know, 00:40:41.37\00:40:44.14 God knows what He's doing with your life. 00:40:44.17\00:40:45.54 You know, Jairit, you think about this Leilani earlier. 00:40:45.57\00:40:47.74 Mark, you know you can become lights. 00:40:47.78\00:40:50.28 Which will then spread and who knows 00:40:50.31\00:40:51.65 what parts of the world, incredible, isn't it? 00:40:51.68\00:40:54.58 It is. 00:40:54.62\00:40:55.95 When I was in Mexico and I brought the last group 00:40:55.98\00:40:58.22 that I brought here, you know, years ago. 00:40:58.25\00:41:00.72 When we started building the churches, 00:41:00.76\00:41:02.09 Stephen was still with me and the pastor, 00:41:02.12\00:41:04.96 the union president wanted Stephen to be a pastor. 00:41:04.99\00:41:07.96 I said no, no, no, he's got his mind. 00:41:08.00\00:41:09.66 We're building churches, Brothers. 00:41:09.70\00:41:11.03 That's more important than being a pastor. 00:41:11.07\00:41:12.40 He's is Norwich. 00:41:12.43\00:41:13.77 You know, that each pastor has 30 churches, 00:41:13.80\00:41:16.87 and each of those 00:41:16.91\00:41:18.67 who has congregations he has a 1,000 people 00:41:18.71\00:41:21.31 he's ministering to. 00:41:21.34\00:41:22.68 And those 1,000 turn into 00:41:22.71\00:41:24.25 and you know I was really quiet when he went through it. 00:41:24.28\00:41:26.78 And that's what I'm doing here. 00:41:26.82\00:41:28.15 The same thing pastor's telling me. 00:41:28.18\00:41:30.62 It's building churches? So let me ask a question. 00:41:33.19\00:41:34.89 So you're gonna have some parents or grandparents 00:41:34.92\00:41:36.79 or someone at home that's watching this program 00:41:36.83\00:41:38.69 and saying, boy, Laurelbrook never heard of it 00:41:38.73\00:41:41.43 or I've heard about it but didn't know much about it. 00:41:41.46\00:41:43.90 So they say, 00:41:43.93\00:41:45.77 you know what I think I want to check this out 00:41:45.80\00:41:47.24 which we will have an address page. 00:41:47.27\00:41:48.60 So get your pencil and paper ready soon. 00:41:48.64\00:41:50.97 But, tell me about 00:41:51.01\00:41:53.38 like what the day life is at Laurelbrook, 00:41:53.41\00:41:56.88 that's one question. 00:41:56.91\00:41:59.15 The other one is, 00:41:59.18\00:42:00.52 do you have like a long waiting list 00:42:00.55\00:42:01.88 for students to attend Laurelbrook 00:42:01.92\00:42:03.25 or can you take more at Laurelbrook, Rich? 00:42:03.28\00:42:05.55 We can take more. 00:42:05.59\00:42:06.92 You can take more so there are some openings for us. 00:42:06.96\00:42:08.29 I only want to be at 60 kids no more. 00:42:08.32\00:42:10.23 No more than 60. 00:42:10.26\00:42:11.59 Because I want to train them correctly 00:42:11.63\00:42:13.43 and I want to do the mission trips, 00:42:13.46\00:42:14.90 and it's very difficult, as a tradesmen, 00:42:14.93\00:42:17.47 to have more than five kids with you and the trader. 00:42:17.50\00:42:20.77 I want to actually have them do it, two or three is best. 00:42:20.80\00:42:23.74 And also the academics, you don't want to get 00:42:23.77\00:42:25.31 too many students for the teacher? 00:42:25.34\00:42:27.01 No, no so we want to stay at 60. 00:42:27.04\00:42:28.74 And that's a blessing with a nursing home 00:42:28.78\00:42:30.21 because it's funding. 00:42:30.25\00:42:32.91 You know, I don't, I don't need like the other schools 00:42:32.95\00:42:35.52 do they need that that student base. 00:42:35.55\00:42:38.02 So the income from the nursing home 00:42:38.05\00:42:39.42 is helping to fund. 00:42:39.45\00:42:40.79 It subsidizes the tuition and the operating place. 00:42:40.82\00:42:43.99 And the young people learning there, you know, 00:42:44.03\00:42:45.79 and they can help me in the summers. 00:42:45.83\00:42:47.40 This is a beautiful program. 00:42:47.43\00:42:48.76 That nursing home is really a blessing, you know. 00:42:48.80\00:42:51.40 So, Jairit, so tell me how early your day starts then 00:42:51.43\00:42:54.27 at Laurelbrook? 00:42:54.30\00:42:55.64 Is this start at 8:00 in the morning 00:42:55.67\00:42:57.01 or give us a little bit of 00:42:57.04\00:42:58.37 what your day would be like at Laurelbrook? 00:42:58.41\00:42:59.74 I know you're senior. 00:42:59.77\00:43:01.11 So maybe a little different than a freshman, 00:43:01.14\00:43:02.48 but tell us what your experience 00:43:02.51\00:43:03.85 is on a daily basis? 00:43:03.88\00:43:05.21 It depends on us what time we have to get up, I guess. 00:43:05.25\00:43:10.22 We have a prayer. Wonderful. 00:43:10.25\00:43:14.19 We have like a prayer group 00:43:14.22\00:43:15.56 and this prayer group gets up at 6:15 every morning. 00:43:15.59\00:43:18.36 So this is how you start your day. 00:43:18.39\00:43:19.73 Praise the Lord for that. 00:43:19.76\00:43:21.10 And it's not required, 00:43:21.13\00:43:22.46 it just comes from you, if you like to come. 00:43:22.50\00:43:23.83 But that's good to participate. 00:43:23.87\00:43:25.20 Which is a blessing, a real blessing. 00:43:25.23\00:43:26.90 We start breakfast like 6:45. 00:43:26.94\00:43:29.04 Okay, pretty early. 00:43:29.07\00:43:30.74 It's open all the way to 7:20 00:43:30.77\00:43:35.44 and at 7:30 we start worship. 00:43:35.48\00:43:38.41 So this is choired group chapel for the school, 7:30. 00:43:38.45\00:43:42.12 Yes, and after worship 00:43:42.15\00:43:43.95 then we go into our vocational trainings. 00:43:43.99\00:43:46.02 You know, office, kitchens, different things like that. 00:43:46.05\00:43:50.39 Some students do the vocational training 00:43:50.43\00:43:52.23 in the morning 00:43:52.26\00:43:53.60 and some others at in the afternoon. 00:43:53.63\00:43:56.73 And also after our vocational training, 00:43:56.77\00:44:00.04 of course we have lunch. 00:44:00.07\00:44:02.44 Then we go into our music program. 00:44:02.47\00:44:04.31 Oh! 00:44:04.34\00:44:05.67 It starts and gets to orchestra, 00:44:05.71\00:44:09.28 bell choir or singing. 00:44:09.31\00:44:10.95 So everyone participates in the music program? 00:44:10.98\00:44:13.18 Yes. Okay. Wow. 00:44:13.21\00:44:15.58 And for me after the music program, 00:44:15.62\00:44:18.69 I have school till 6:00 and then we're going to supper. 00:44:18.72\00:44:24.43 Sometimes we have suppers in the homes 00:44:24.46\00:44:26.73 and staff houses with the Bible studies... 00:44:26.76\00:44:30.00 And share testimonies and after dinner 00:44:30.03\00:44:34.07 I guess, we have free time. 00:44:34.10\00:44:37.41 So we can either come together to play 00:44:37.44\00:44:40.11 or we also have prayer meeting, it depends on the night. 00:44:40.14\00:44:43.28 Sure. 00:44:43.31\00:44:44.65 And then afterwards we just do worship again. 00:44:44.68\00:44:47.28 That's good. 00:44:47.32\00:44:48.65 We pray together and we go to bed. 00:44:48.68\00:44:50.59 Amen. You know what I like is the spiritual emphasis. 00:44:50.62\00:44:52.89 I do too. 00:44:52.92\00:44:54.26 A lot of time in prayer, a lot of time in worship, 00:44:54.29\00:44:56.62 a lot of community and that's powerful 00:44:56.66\00:44:59.06 because building the spiritual life 00:44:59.09\00:45:00.83 is more important than anything in life. 00:45:00.86\00:45:03.43 It sets that foundation for everything. 00:45:03.47\00:45:05.87 Mark, tell us about... 00:45:05.90\00:45:07.64 I know obviously your experience is similar 00:45:07.67\00:45:09.14 as far as your day, 00:45:09.17\00:45:10.51 but you were smiling a few times 00:45:10.54\00:45:11.87 when Jairit was talking about the day, 00:45:11.91\00:45:13.48 so tell us 00:45:13.51\00:45:14.84 maybe what your favorite parts of the day are? 00:45:14.88\00:45:16.85 Well, my day first starts off with since I'm a staff student, 00:45:16.88\00:45:21.85 I'm actually, I could I wake up at 6:00 00:45:21.88\00:45:25.45 and then do the same routine. 00:45:25.49\00:45:27.32 But one of my favorite parts of the day is 00:45:27.36\00:45:30.09 actually going to the dorm, meeting with my friends 00:45:30.13\00:45:33.03 and just playing games, 00:45:33.06\00:45:35.56 fellowshipping with each others and I hope... 00:45:35.60\00:45:40.57 But as far as being involved together 00:45:40.60\00:45:42.04 with fellowship is a real blessing, isn't it? 00:45:42.07\00:45:44.27 Because, yeah that's encouraging, that is. 00:45:44.31\00:45:45.94 You know, that's the neat thing of yeah, 00:45:45.97\00:45:47.88 in an academy atmosphere. 00:45:47.91\00:45:49.51 And he's a sparkplug. 00:45:49.54\00:45:50.88 You know, it's fun to have those key spiritual people, 00:45:50.91\00:45:54.08 you could bring other people within that's Mark, 00:45:54.12\00:45:56.28 he loves the Lord and that's a commodity 00:45:56.32\00:46:00.02 and a dorm that's just precious. 00:46:00.06\00:46:01.49 Yes. Yeah. 00:46:01.52\00:46:02.86 So your parents are staff, what do they do? 00:46:02.89\00:46:04.43 Well, my dad is actually billing for sand kitchen 00:46:04.46\00:46:10.27 and the nursing home 00:46:10.30\00:46:13.54 and my mom is in California right now. 00:46:13.57\00:46:15.30 Okay. Right? There you go. 00:47:14.03\00:47:15.36 This is of the main... That's a new dorm... 00:47:15.40\00:47:16.77 Okay. That we're constructing. 00:47:16.80\00:47:18.73 And like I said now we're looking at 00:47:18.77\00:47:20.37 only 60 young people, so 30 boys and 30 girls. 00:47:20.40\00:47:23.81 Sure. So we need two dorms. 00:47:23.84\00:47:25.41 One dorm is sufficient, our other dorm is really lax, 00:47:25.44\00:47:28.64 we really had a fire six years ago 00:47:28.68\00:47:31.15 or something and destroyed that. 00:47:31.18\00:47:33.05 And so the boys are in a temporary setting, 00:47:33.08\00:47:35.88 and I want to get them out of there 00:47:35.92\00:47:37.25 as soon as they can to get them into their new dorm. 00:47:37.29\00:47:39.45 But the girls say, "We want the new dorm." 00:47:39.49\00:47:41.92 Because, actually the girls went into the boys' dorm 00:47:41.96\00:47:44.06 and they say, "Does the girls dorm normally have urinals?" 00:47:44.09\00:47:47.30 Well, maybe not you know, so we're changing that 00:47:47.33\00:47:49.73 but that's our goal is to start this year 00:47:49.76\00:47:52.60 with the dorm and then keep progressing 00:47:52.63\00:47:54.77 until the five years, 00:47:54.80\00:47:56.60 the plan in that so we're adhering to it, 00:47:56.64\00:47:59.17 but we're paying cash. 00:47:59.21\00:48:00.54 Yeah. No debt. 00:48:00.58\00:48:01.91 That's God's plan. Yeah. 00:48:01.94\00:48:03.45 And we feel God will bless us with that as we, 00:48:03.48\00:48:05.91 all the way through Mexico missions, 00:48:05.95\00:48:07.72 I never borrowed a dime. 00:48:07.75\00:48:09.35 Yeah, praise the Lord for that. 00:48:09.38\00:48:10.72 He's always blessed me, you know, so that's the thing 00:48:10.75\00:48:12.29 with Laurelbrook the same way. 00:48:12.32\00:48:14.39 A question for you, 00:48:14.42\00:48:15.76 the importance of Christian education? 00:48:15.79\00:48:18.76 It burns in my heart, you know and I feel this... 00:48:18.79\00:48:21.30 Why is it important? 00:48:21.33\00:48:22.66 I have five children myself, I have 12 grandchildren, 00:48:22.70\00:48:26.43 and God has blessed me all the way through the years, 00:48:26.47\00:48:28.47 I didn't have a lot of money but I could always put them 00:48:28.50\00:48:30.41 through Christian education, all the way through Andrews 00:48:30.44\00:48:32.41 and Southern and they're missionaries, 00:48:32.44\00:48:34.08 every one of them is a missionary today. 00:48:34.11\00:48:36.11 My granddaughter just came back from Peru, 00:48:36.14\00:48:38.51 you know, she's got a... 00:48:38.55\00:48:39.88 It burns in me. And is it the same with these? 00:48:39.91\00:48:43.18 Yes. 00:48:43.22\00:48:44.55 I believe that by God's grace, we can have... 00:48:44.59\00:48:46.55 I watch school's closing. 00:48:46.59\00:48:47.92 No, we need to build new ones. Yeah, we need to do. 00:48:47.96\00:48:50.06 Or open them back up and then God has a plan. 00:48:50.09\00:48:52.86 He does. We just follow it. 00:48:52.89\00:48:54.53 I love the thought of Great Controversy, 00:48:54.56\00:48:56.26 "Do what is right because it's right, 00:48:56.30\00:48:58.20 leave the consequences with God." 00:48:58.23\00:48:59.57 Yes. 00:48:59.60\00:49:00.94 And that's so strong, that's all we live by. 00:49:00.97\00:49:02.60 And so with Laurelbrook it's the same way, 00:49:02.64\00:49:04.54 I love being there because I get to be 00:49:04.57\00:49:06.27 with these young people and watch them grow. 00:49:06.31\00:49:09.71 But you know, I was mentioning to you too with Jairit, 00:49:09.74\00:49:12.81 3000 to 1 is the currency rate in Venezuela. 00:49:12.85\00:49:17.42 Oh!
