00:04:05.47\00:04:06.81 When she accepted the Lord, 00:04:06.84\00:04:08.68 she got delivered from drugs overnight literally, 00:04:08.71\00:04:11.18 from doing heroin and cocaine for years, 00:04:11.21\00:04:15.32 so it was very, very precious. 00:04:15.35\00:04:17.75 But before we get into the life story of these two 00:04:17.79\00:04:22.06 and how God is using them in such a marvelous way. 00:04:22.09\00:04:25.93 We wanted to actually feature a song from a 3ABN Project. 00:04:25.96\00:04:32.17 Tell us about the project? Yes. 00:10:27.96\00:10:31.83 What a powerful, powerful message 00:10:31.86\00:10:35.66 and if you're just joining us, the singer is Michael Harris. 00:10:35.70\00:10:40.14 He is our special guest, 00:10:40.17\00:10:41.84 he and his wife Lynn are our special guests today. 00:10:41.87\00:10:45.01 Tell me when did you know 00:10:45.04\00:10:47.51 that God had given you a gift of that voice? 00:10:47.54\00:10:51.11 You know, I never thought 00:10:51.15\00:10:53.42 that anyone would want to hear me sing. 00:10:53.45\00:10:56.45 But when I was baptized in the church, 00:10:56.48\00:10:59.95 I started singing on for my congregation there 00:10:59.99\00:11:04.83 in Ventura, California back in those days, 00:11:04.86\00:11:08.06 and I would go into the retirement homes 00:11:08.10\00:11:11.60 and to the prisons 00:11:11.63\00:11:13.17 and they were like a captive audience. 00:11:13.20\00:11:16.44 And so they had no other choice but to listen to me. 00:11:16.47\00:11:19.24 But I never thought 00:11:19.27\00:11:20.61 that anyone would actually come out to a concert 00:11:20.64\00:11:23.11 to listen to me sing but is this, 00:11:23.14\00:11:26.08 I'm still amazed by what God is doing. 00:11:26.11\00:11:28.62 Amen, how old were you 00:11:28.65\00:11:29.98 when you were baptized, Michael? 00:11:30.02\00:11:31.35 I was 27 years old. 00:11:31.39\00:11:37.16 So just from your testimony on there, 00:11:37.19\00:11:40.10 I assume you did not grow up in the church. 00:11:40.13\00:11:42.63 No. Tell us about your early life? 00:11:42.66\00:11:44.53 You know, I was raised on the south side of Chicago 00:11:44.57\00:11:47.74 in a very gang and drug infiltrated community. 00:11:47.77\00:11:52.67 And I lived only a few blocks 00:11:52.71\00:11:54.38 from the Shiloh Seventh-day Adventist Church 00:11:54.41\00:11:56.14 which was a huge, 00:11:56.18\00:11:57.55 at that time a huge black church 00:11:57.58\00:11:59.51 on the south side there. 00:11:59.55\00:12:01.32 And no one ever knocked on my door 00:12:01.35\00:12:03.02 except for the Jehovah's Witness. 00:12:03.05\00:12:06.05 And so I had never heard 00:12:06.09\00:12:07.42 of the Seventh-day Adventist church 00:12:07.46\00:12:08.82 until much later in my life. 00:12:08.86\00:12:11.09 But once I heard the truth, I was converted immediately. 00:12:11.13\00:12:14.76 Amen, so did you fall into the pattern of others 00:12:14.80\00:12:19.67 in your neighborhood? 00:12:19.70\00:12:21.50 I was falling into the pattern of the others 00:12:21.54\00:12:23.87 but I decided I was going to escape 00:12:23.91\00:12:25.97 by way of the United States navy 00:12:26.01\00:12:27.98 and so I traveled around the world, 00:12:28.01\00:12:30.51 running away from my past, 00:12:30.55\00:12:35.02 and actually I took the world with me. 00:12:35.05\00:12:37.82 So you ran away from the past 00:12:37.85\00:12:39.19 but you couldn't run away from the demons... 00:12:39.22\00:12:40.56 No, I could not, I took the demons right along with me. 00:12:40.59\00:12:43.76 And somewhere along the line, I met Christ Jesus 00:12:43.79\00:12:47.30 and He pull me out of my reclay that I was drowning in, 00:12:47.33\00:12:51.93 and He placed my feet on the solid rock. 00:12:51.97\00:12:54.44 And I'm really grateful 00:12:54.47\00:12:56.40 for what He's done for me in my life 00:12:56.44\00:12:57.77 because I should not be sitting here. 00:12:57.81\00:12:59.54 My opinion, I should not be sitting here now 00:12:59.57\00:13:02.61 with all the things that I've gone through in my life. 00:13:02.64\00:13:05.08 Well, how did you meet your lovely wife? 00:13:05.11\00:13:07.62 Well, I was singing at a memorial service 00:13:07.65\00:13:12.65 and I was on my way out to Arizona 00:13:12.69\00:13:14.92 to sing for the camp meeting there. 00:13:14.96\00:13:17.29 And after I... 00:13:17.33\00:13:20.13 Actually I did a full hour concert 00:13:20.16\00:13:22.76 at a memorial service 00:13:22.80\00:13:24.13 all about the second coming you know, The Midnight Cry, 00:13:24.17\00:13:26.63 and No More Night and songs like that, Buelah Land. 00:13:26.67\00:13:29.20 And I rushed out of the church afterwards 00:13:29.24\00:13:33.04 and got in my car and drove off to Arizona, 00:13:33.07\00:13:35.88 and little I knew she was sitting there in the audience 00:13:35.91\00:13:38.91 video taping in then, 00:13:38.95\00:13:40.75 so I didn't meet her until much, much later 00:13:40.78\00:13:44.32 and finally I got a phone call one day asking me, 00:13:44.35\00:13:47.02 what would it take for me to out to Hawaii 00:13:47.06\00:13:49.66 to sing at a prison out there? 00:13:49.69\00:13:52.36 And so she arranged for me to come out to Hawaii, 00:13:52.39\00:13:55.46 to go out to Hawaii, 00:13:55.50\00:13:56.97 and originally I was supposed to sing at a prison 00:13:57.00\00:14:00.00 and then one or two churches, 00:14:00.04\00:14:02.40 I ended up singing in 22 churches. 00:14:02.44\00:14:05.84 And I spend about 00:14:05.87\00:14:07.28 I think five and a half months in Hawaii. 00:14:07.31\00:14:09.31 Are you saying this woman is very persuasive? 00:14:09.34\00:14:12.81 I think that we are no mistake. 00:14:12.85\00:14:16.08 I think that God ordained us to be together, 00:14:16.12\00:14:21.86 or God commissioned us to do ministry together, 00:14:21.89\00:14:25.36 because she is so knowledgeable of a lot of different things 00:14:25.39\00:14:27.66 especially in a health career. 00:14:27.70\00:14:29.63 And so when I do concert, she do the health intro 00:14:29.66\00:14:34.04 and I'll finish it off 00:14:34.07\00:14:35.40 with the salvation message in music so. 00:14:35.44\00:14:37.71 I believe that we're no mistake. 00:14:37.74\00:14:39.64 So, Lynn, from your perspective you were a widow, 00:14:39.67\00:14:42.18 you were actually involved, 00:14:42.21\00:14:44.25 just tell us a little bit about your medical history 00:14:44.28\00:14:46.72 with your husband and your involvement with prisons? 00:14:46.75\00:14:50.09 Well, I too, Shelley, 00:14:50.12\00:14:51.72 I wasn't raised in you know, a church. 00:14:51.75\00:14:54.86 I didn't have a church background. 00:14:54.89\00:14:57.53 I was kind of raised with accept everybody 00:14:57.56\00:15:00.60 and learn about everything, but on your own. 00:15:00.63\00:15:03.70 And when I was in Hawaii growing up, 00:15:03.73\00:15:06.57 God placed several light post around me, 00:15:06.60\00:15:09.54 Seventh-day Adventist. 00:15:09.57\00:15:10.91 I didn't even really realize it 00:15:10.94\00:15:12.57 but the people I love to be with 00:15:12.61\00:15:14.54 and the families I love to hang around 00:15:14.58\00:15:16.75 were Seventh-day Adventists. 00:15:16.78\00:15:18.11 They had this wonderful family, 00:15:18.15\00:15:19.48 a caring attitude 00:15:19.51\00:15:20.85 and I like to be with their family, 00:15:20.88\00:15:22.22 I didn't know what they were doing on Fridays and Saturdays 00:15:22.25\00:15:24.59 but I sure love to be with them. 00:15:24.62\00:15:26.29 There was just a love connection there. 00:15:26.32\00:15:28.49 And when I reached out to God and ask for him 00:15:28.52\00:15:31.19 if you really cared about me personally 00:15:31.23\00:15:34.33 and accept to Christ. 00:15:34.36\00:15:36.33 I realize it that the people that I was hanging around 00:15:36.36\00:15:39.90 were the ones that led me to the Lord 00:15:39.93\00:15:41.90 and invited me to church 00:15:41.94\00:15:44.21 and I became a Seventh-day Adventist in Hawaii, 00:15:44.24\00:15:46.88 and from there I went into the Weimar Institute. 00:15:46.91\00:15:51.55 I went to Weimar College 00:15:51.58\00:15:53.18 and learned about nutritional healing 00:15:53.21\00:15:54.78 and how God had designed our bodies to be well 00:15:54.82\00:15:58.09 and to be self healing 00:15:58.12\00:15:59.85 and we weren't supposed to be sick, 00:15:59.89\00:16:01.26 and he had a plan and food 00:16:01.29\00:16:03.16 that was designed for us to live long and prosper. 00:16:03.19\00:16:06.56 And so as I went into the health field, 00:16:06.59\00:16:08.46 I eventually went into nursing, went to Loma Linda. 00:16:08.50\00:16:12.27 And ended up 00:16:12.30\00:16:14.77 having the vegetarian restaurant in Berkeley, 00:16:14.80\00:16:17.11 and I met my first husband Dr, Thomas. 00:16:17.14\00:16:19.91 And from that point we both were hired 00:16:19.94\00:16:24.11 to work in the California state prisons. 00:16:24.15\00:16:27.22 And he was a chief physician 00:16:27.25\00:16:30.12 and I was a public health director. 00:16:30.15\00:16:32.35 And so we've got into prison ministry different, 00:16:32.39\00:16:35.82 in a different way and he said one day 00:16:35.86\00:16:37.53 and when I was kind of holding back 00:16:37.56\00:16:39.39 and saying I'm just fine here in Loma Linda 00:16:39.43\00:16:41.93 and I could to be here the rest of my life, 00:16:41.96\00:16:45.07 and take classes all the time 00:16:45.10\00:16:46.80 and be around all these wonderful churches and people. 00:16:46.84\00:16:50.11 He said, you know, then they want to pay us 00:16:50.14\00:16:52.71 to do prison ministry, you know, 00:16:52.74\00:16:54.11 we need to come out 00:16:54.14\00:16:55.48 and there is a people here they need us. 00:16:55.51\00:16:57.98 And we went out to the prisons and I was just, 00:16:58.01\00:17:01.08 it was like when Jesus said he was struck with compassion. 00:17:01.12\00:17:03.82 When I saw these inmates in and their lives, 00:17:03.85\00:17:06.05 and their health and their needs, it was, 00:17:06.09\00:17:08.66 I just had compassion 00:17:08.69\00:17:10.49 and I just felt like I had to be there. 00:17:10.53\00:17:12.63 And as I was in that program... 00:17:12.66\00:17:16.93 Can I say something real quick? Yes, yes. 00:17:16.97\00:17:18.33 Actually they were praying him to be the doctor, 00:17:18.37\00:17:20.24 and you to be the nurse, 00:17:20.27\00:17:21.60 you just converted it into a prison ministry. 00:17:21.64\00:17:23.71 There you go. Yes, amen. 00:17:23.74\00:17:26.07 But as I was in that program, 00:17:26.11\00:17:27.58 I realize that every thing that I learned in my education 00:17:27.61\00:17:31.55 through nutritional healing 00:17:31.58\00:17:34.02 and through Loma Linda school of nursing, 00:17:34.05\00:17:36.45 everything that I learn, 00:17:36.48\00:17:37.85 they were just dying to know that information, 00:17:37.89\00:17:39.85 and so I just took those health classes 00:17:39.89\00:17:42.12 that I learned at Weimar and Newstart 00:17:42.16\00:17:44.29 and I just taught them to the inmates. 00:17:44.33\00:17:46.09 I was supposed to be there to do infectious disease, 00:17:46.13\00:17:48.23 public health 00:17:48.26\00:17:49.60 but on the side I was teaching classes to inmates. 00:17:49.63\00:17:52.60 It eventually turned into 00:17:52.63\00:17:53.97 an inmate pure education program. 00:17:54.00\00:17:55.87 And I was able to put that into 33 prisons in California 00:17:55.90\00:17:59.24 teaching them how to, about water, exercise, 00:17:59.27\00:18:02.38 they eat natural remedies, 00:18:02.41\00:18:03.78 and the inmates just love to learn about these things 00:18:03.81\00:18:06.95 and practice them and then come back 00:18:06.98\00:18:08.95 and tell me that they just felt so much better 00:18:08.98\00:18:11.85 and they just, these are lifers, 00:18:11.89\00:18:13.39 these are people who were not gonna be getting out 00:18:13.42\00:18:15.96 in most of out life times. 00:18:15.99\00:18:18.13 And so, they, I wanted to teach them 00:18:18.16\00:18:20.23 how to stay well in prison, 00:18:20.26\00:18:21.80 how to prosper and how to know, 00:18:21.83\00:18:24.23 you know, how to... 00:18:24.27\00:18:25.60 I couldn't exactly say 00:18:25.63\00:18:26.97 how to have relationship with God, 00:18:27.00\00:18:28.50 but through teaching them about their body, 00:18:28.54\00:18:30.64 they came to the understanding 00:18:30.67\00:18:32.17 that they were intelligently designed. 00:18:32.21\00:18:34.61 And they would tell me this is no mistake 00:18:34.64\00:18:37.51 that our bodies function this way, 00:18:37.55\00:18:39.91 and so there must be a creator. 00:18:39.95\00:18:41.65 And then that just spring forward 00:18:41.68\00:18:44.29 and I never had to use a word Christianity, 00:18:44.32\00:18:46.05 I never had to open a Bible. 00:18:46.09\00:18:48.36 I would have Muslims, Christians, 00:18:48.39\00:18:52.03 atheists telling me that themselves 00:18:52.06\00:18:55.56 that they realize that there is more 00:18:55.60\00:18:57.47 to what they understood about the body 00:18:57.50\00:19:00.14 and about health that, you know, 00:19:00.17\00:19:03.97 by just learning about natural thing like that. 00:19:04.01\00:19:06.07 Boy, then it's really true 00:19:06.11\00:19:07.48 that the health message is the right arm of the gospel. 00:19:07.51\00:19:10.85 Yes. Amen. Amen. 00:19:10.88\00:19:12.85 So you guys, you've got him, 00:19:12.88\00:19:14.88 you've convinced him to come to Hawaii 00:19:14.92\00:19:18.32 and then you convinced him to stay for five months. 00:19:18.35\00:19:21.76 Did you know at the end of that five months 00:19:21.79\00:19:24.66 was there... 00:19:24.69\00:19:26.03 Did you know that the Lord meant you to be together 00:19:26.06\00:19:27.60 or was that something that developed overtime? 00:19:27.63\00:19:29.76 Well, she asks me first is that 00:19:29.80\00:19:31.13 how much would it cost for you to come to Hawaii 00:19:31.17\00:19:33.74 because she had called to lot of other artists I guessed, 00:19:33.77\00:19:36.81 and it was quite expensive. 00:19:36.84\00:19:40.31 You know, I usually give people 00:19:40.34\00:19:45.01 a good sale price 00:19:45.05\00:19:47.75 because the gospel should be free, 00:19:47.78\00:19:49.45 but it does take money to go from point A to point B. 00:19:49.48\00:19:52.85 So I try to give them the bare necessities so to speak. 00:19:52.89\00:19:59.03 Just get me there and just give me a place 00:19:59.06\00:20:01.53 under coconut tree somewhere and a microphone and I'm set. 00:20:01.56\00:20:06.63 So she ended up calling me because I was, 00:20:06.67\00:20:09.07 I guess a lone man on the totem pole, so. 00:20:09.10\00:20:12.37 The lowest bed. 00:20:12.41\00:20:14.24 I can say something about that when I was, 00:20:14.28\00:20:17.15 Diane and I were in Wisconsin for almost 10 years, 00:20:17.18\00:20:20.82 and Michael would come out and do camp meetings for us. 00:20:20.85\00:20:24.62 And we used and abused him every department, 00:20:24.65\00:20:28.69 every, you know, childrens, all the way out, 00:20:28.72\00:20:30.66 he would come and sing, you know, 00:20:30.69\00:20:32.79 so he was a great value for the amount that he charged. 00:20:32.83\00:20:38.87 He'd be a great value 00:20:38.90\00:20:40.44 for 100 times that amount, wouldn't he? 00:20:40.47\00:20:42.07 I sing children songs and I crawl around 00:20:42.10\00:20:43.97 and I curl my knees and ready to roll. 00:20:44.01\00:20:47.08 We loved it. It was a real blessing. 00:20:47.11\00:20:49.84 He went to all our schools in Hawaii, 00:20:49.88\00:20:51.68 he went to the prisons, 00:20:51.71\00:20:53.62 like I said 22 churches different islands, 00:20:53.65\00:20:56.05 and when I called I said, 00:20:56.08\00:20:58.09 what do you do, you know, I just, 00:20:58.12\00:20:59.45 I'm kind of trying to find people to come to Hawaii, 00:20:59.49\00:21:01.52 and this prison had not had a concert in 20 years. 00:21:01.56\00:21:03.93 Wow. 00:21:03.96\00:21:05.29 It's a prison in near our Adventist hospital in Kailua. 00:21:05.33\00:21:08.46 And then they hadn't had concerts in general 00:21:08.50\00:21:11.80 and because it rains everyday and it's only outdoors 00:21:11.83\00:21:14.24 is the place you can hold a concert. 00:21:14.27\00:21:16.37 And so I said, well, by faith 00:21:16.40\00:21:17.74 we're gonna just have this concert held 00:21:17.77\00:21:19.77 and I talked to the prison officials 00:21:19.81\00:21:21.24 and they were like, 00:21:21.28\00:21:22.61 they were willing to come over out here 00:21:22.64\00:21:23.98 and it may be cancelled 00:21:24.01\00:21:25.35 they say, well, he's a very humble person. 00:21:25.38\00:21:28.45 We're gonna have him schedule, can we get clearance 00:21:28.48\00:21:30.75 and we got out there and it was raining a little bit 00:21:30.79\00:21:33.49 and those, all the women are setting up, 00:21:33.52\00:21:35.49 the women inmates. 00:21:35.52\00:21:36.86 There is only 300 women in Hawaii in the prison there, 00:21:36.89\00:21:40.53 the rest are sent out of state. 00:21:40.56\00:21:42.50 And so these are the women 00:21:42.53\00:21:43.87 who probably are not gonna be getting out of prison. 00:21:43.90\00:21:47.54 And so this is gonna be home to them for long time. 00:21:47.57\00:21:51.71 When we send people away from their homes, 00:21:51.74\00:21:54.04 you now, they are away from all kinds of family, 00:21:54.08\00:21:56.14 so we went into the prison 00:21:56.18\00:21:57.61 and women are setting up all the sound system 00:21:57.65\00:21:59.61 and doing everything, 00:21:59.65\00:22:00.98 they're so excited to have this concert. 00:22:01.02\00:22:02.92 And Michael must have shook hands 00:22:02.95\00:22:04.39 with 300 of those women after the concert. 00:22:04.42\00:22:06.59 It was very moving. 00:22:06.62\00:22:07.96 When I called, they said, what he is gonna take 00:22:07.99\00:22:09.76 and how we're gonna do this, 00:22:09.79\00:22:11.13 expecting this huge number you know, money needed. 00:22:11.16\00:22:15.06 And he said, just get me there, 00:22:15.10\00:22:16.43 and he say just take a love offering 00:22:16.46\00:22:17.80 if we go to churches and I sell my CDs. 00:22:17.83\00:22:20.07 They said, what if no one loves you? 00:22:20.10\00:22:22.97 I had never had a... 00:22:23.00\00:22:24.34 I wasn't in a faith based, I colporteured through college, 00:22:24.37\00:22:27.11 and you know, to get there, I knew what that was like 00:22:27.14\00:22:29.81 but to be doing, this is your only income. 00:22:29.84\00:22:31.68 To colporteur means to sell the books. 00:22:31.71\00:22:33.31 To sell Christian books, to go to school, 00:22:33.35\00:22:36.02 they sell books door to door, but that was a short time, 00:22:36.05\00:22:39.35 you know, it wasn't 30 years of doing as I said, 00:22:39.39\00:22:42.42 what if nobody responds, what am I gonna do, he says... 00:22:42.46\00:22:45.53 What if nobody loves you? What if no one love you? 00:22:45.56\00:22:47.80 And he says, and I've been doing this 00:22:47.83\00:22:50.07 for almost 30 years and God is taking care of me. 00:22:50.10\00:22:52.60 And so I said, wow, I said, I got to, you know, 00:22:52.63\00:22:56.40 unfortunately in my real world to be in health all the time, 00:22:56.44\00:22:59.54 I really wasn't aware 00:22:59.57\00:23:01.08 if Michael was a really Christian singer 00:23:01.11\00:23:03.11 until I went to this funeral. 00:23:03.14\00:23:04.71 And I wasn't even really able to enjoy his music 00:23:04.75\00:23:06.98 'cause I was crying so much 00:23:07.02\00:23:08.35 at my girlfriend's mother's funereal. 00:23:08.38\00:23:09.82 So Michael sang and then I never really saw him 00:23:09.85\00:23:13.39 and what it was, I was grieving. 00:23:13.42\00:23:15.29 I've lost two husbands to cancer 00:23:15.32\00:23:18.46 and I was grieving 00:23:18.49\00:23:20.16 and I was looking at for a song one night just to help me. 00:23:20.20\00:23:23.67 And I was looking for word not for grace. 00:23:23.70\00:23:25.87 And I remember someone singing that before 00:23:25.90\00:23:27.67 and I went to the YouTube and I saw this 3ABN background, 00:23:27.70\00:23:30.51 I said, okay, and I saw this gentleman. 00:23:30.54\00:23:32.81 And didn't really even realize he was Michael 00:23:32.84\00:23:34.84 but when he sang were not for grace, I said, 00:23:34.88\00:23:37.15 where would I be right now 00:23:37.18\00:23:38.68 if it weren't for God's grace in my life. 00:23:38.71\00:23:40.72 I said, people have to hear this, 00:23:40.75\00:23:42.15 the women in prison need to hear this song. 00:23:42.18\00:23:44.42 And when I was grieving God showed me, 00:23:44.45\00:23:46.76 you need to go somewhere 00:23:46.79\00:23:48.32 where people are in worse shape, 00:23:48.36\00:23:50.46 I'm crying all day by myself. 00:23:50.49\00:23:52.39 Go somewhere to other people also who are suffering. 00:23:52.43\00:23:55.23 And so when I went to the women's prison, 00:23:55.26\00:23:57.03 they brought me out of my darkness. 00:23:57.07\00:23:59.73 And so when I talk about prison ministry, 00:23:59.77\00:24:02.20 they are the ones who kind of saved my life, 00:24:02.24\00:24:04.21 because I was, you know, I was pity pot, 00:24:04.24\00:24:07.74 I was just feeling sorry for myself, 00:24:07.78\00:24:09.74 yet I've had a wonderful marriage, 00:24:09.78\00:24:11.61 wonderful life, I still was disappointed, 00:24:11.65\00:24:14.48 and Satan tries to help us stay in disappointment 00:24:14.52\00:24:17.29 and we have to go out 00:24:17.32\00:24:18.85 and find people and bring value to them. 00:24:18.89\00:24:21.12 And so what prison ministry to me 00:24:21.16\00:24:22.92 is not about me being able to do something for them. 00:24:22.96\00:24:26.66 Whenever I go to prison ministry 00:24:26.70\00:24:28.36 that it does something for me 00:24:28.40\00:24:30.20 that there is no price I can pay for. 00:24:30.23\00:24:32.17 That what we hear constantly everybody that hear... 00:24:32.20\00:24:34.90 Now you begun a prison ministry at 3ABN 00:24:34.94\00:24:38.07 and tell us about that? 00:24:38.11\00:24:39.74 You know, well that came out of tragedy, 00:24:39.77\00:24:41.91 just like you went in tragedy of losing two husbands 00:24:41.94\00:24:45.01 very quickly right in a row. 00:24:45.05\00:24:47.25 And with us our son was became incarcerated 00:24:47.28\00:24:51.22 and will spend most of his life 00:24:51.25\00:24:53.92 if not all of his life, you know, in prison 00:24:53.96\00:24:57.83 and in that grief 00:24:57.86\00:24:59.39 and we were grieving just I know what that's like. 00:24:59.43\00:25:05.43 God placed us in prison to do ministry 00:25:05.47\00:25:08.90 and we began ministering to others 00:25:08.94\00:25:11.41 who had lost everything, at least we still had our son, 00:25:11.44\00:25:14.64 we can still touch him, talk to him, see him, you know, 00:25:14.68\00:25:18.45 even though he was separated now from us and would be. 00:25:18.48\00:25:22.45 But many of those incarcerated don't see family. 00:25:22.48\00:25:26.59 In fact we're their visit, 00:25:26.62\00:25:27.96 we're their family when we come in. 00:25:27.99\00:25:29.76 And so out of our grief, 00:25:29.79\00:25:32.16 God put us into ministry like He did with you. 00:25:32.19\00:25:34.73 And that brought healing to our life and our hearts, 00:25:34.76\00:25:37.80 you know, so it's a wonderful thing. 00:25:37.83\00:25:39.70 When I met someone who wanted to do prison ministry 00:25:39.73\00:25:42.37 and then when I said Michael, 00:25:42.40\00:25:43.74 there is a little school over here in there, 00:25:43.77\00:25:45.51 you know like first graders and second graders, 00:25:45.54\00:25:47.81 and he says, I got songs for them, 00:25:47.84\00:25:49.81 and he just jumped in there 00:25:49.84\00:25:51.21 and these kids are just delighted I found, 00:25:51.25\00:25:54.98 I didn't think when you go through grief 00:25:55.02\00:25:57.19 that you can never laugh again, that you can ever love again 00:25:57.22\00:25:59.55 or you can have a desire to go out 00:25:59.59\00:26:01.66 and do something, because you feel so sorry for yourself, 00:26:01.69\00:26:05.19 and which is what grief changes your brain. 00:26:05.23\00:26:07.76 Your brain chemistry is very dangerous 00:26:07.80\00:26:09.86 and so you have to find a way 00:26:09.90\00:26:12.13 for God to work through your grief. 00:26:12.17\00:26:15.07 And the word sorrow in the word, 00:26:15.10\00:26:16.84 and the Hebrew word for sorrow in Genesis 00:26:16.87\00:26:19.37 means birth pains. 00:26:19.41\00:26:21.01 So our grief and our sorrow 00:26:21.04\00:26:22.54 is about to give birth to something 00:26:22.58\00:26:24.55 that we would never be able to give birth to 00:26:24.58\00:26:28.25 unless we were going through that sorrow. 00:26:28.28\00:26:30.85 And so as I went through the sorrow, 00:26:30.89\00:26:33.09 I had no desire really to talk to anybody, do anything. 00:26:33.12\00:26:36.96 And when I met Michael 00:26:36.99\00:26:38.83 as he had this desire to reach people 00:26:38.86\00:26:40.93 and I said, boy, if someone wants to go out and back it, 00:26:40.96\00:26:44.83 not too many men I met 00:26:44.87\00:26:46.40 especially want to go into prison with me, 00:26:46.43\00:26:48.27 you know, and they just... 00:26:48.30\00:26:49.64 In fact when I come out of prison, 00:26:49.67\00:26:52.17 when I was in Hawaii, 00:26:52.21\00:26:53.54 I went to the prison people and we talked 00:26:53.58\00:26:56.34 and the only time they had open was Sabbath morning, 00:26:56.38\00:26:59.61 Saturday mornings at 7 o'clock. 00:26:59.65\00:27:01.52 I said that's a good time for me. 00:27:01.55\00:27:03.39 And then we had four other women 00:27:03.42\00:27:04.75 to go into each pod, so what happened was 00:27:04.79\00:27:08.36 when I come out of those prisons, 00:27:08.39\00:27:10.56 when I come out of women's prison, 00:27:10.59\00:27:12.16 the line for visitors was about three or four women, 00:27:12.19\00:27:15.43 or just may be one or two men. 00:27:15.46\00:27:17.90 When I come out of the men's prison 00:27:17.93\00:27:19.80 there is a line of people, 00:27:19.83\00:27:21.80 tons of women and men we need to visit men in prison. 00:27:21.84\00:27:25.54 So you're saying if I understood you correctly 00:27:25.57\00:27:27.64 that women get a lot fewer visitors. 00:27:27.68\00:27:30.01 Very few visitors, 00:27:30.05\00:27:31.38 on a weekend when it was the Saturday 00:27:31.41\00:27:33.45 when people should be free 00:27:33.48\00:27:34.82 to come visit their family members, 00:27:34.85\00:27:36.58 nobody was in line to visit them 00:27:36.62\00:27:38.12 and it just, that broke my heart, 00:27:38.15\00:27:40.02 and here was someone who said, let's go away, 00:27:40.06\00:27:42.16 any other prisons we can go to? 00:27:42.19\00:27:43.53 I didn't, I had met people 00:27:43.56\00:27:45.13 who even want to go into prison ministry 00:27:45.16\00:27:47.26 too much with me, because... 00:27:47.30\00:27:48.63 I think the reason why I like going into prisons 00:27:48.66\00:27:50.43 because I could have easily been one of those incarcerated, 00:27:50.47\00:27:54.40 you know, and a lot of those men and women and children, 00:27:54.44\00:27:58.41 teenagers 'cause we have youth authorities as well. 00:27:58.44\00:28:01.68 They think that they have pushed it to the side 00:28:01.71\00:28:03.58 and like caste aside by society. 00:28:03.61\00:28:07.18 And Jesus wants them to know that they're not forgotten 00:28:07.22\00:28:11.22 that He don't make any garbage, everyone has a purpose in life. 00:28:11.25\00:28:15.49 And then God wants us, 00:28:15.52\00:28:16.86 He's commissioned us to go unto this prisons 00:28:16.89\00:28:19.16 and to visit these people and feed the hungry 00:28:19.19\00:28:22.06 when they're hungry, 00:28:22.10\00:28:23.43 and give water to those who thirst. 00:28:23.47\00:28:25.53 And I see a lot of young people in our schools for example 00:28:25.57\00:28:30.51 and then a couple of years down a road 00:28:30.54\00:28:32.01 because I've been around the block for while. 00:28:32.04\00:28:34.41 Couple of years down the road, I'll go into a prison 00:28:34.44\00:28:36.95 and I will see some of the same faces 00:28:36.98\00:28:38.71 that I saw in our Christian academies locked up, 00:28:38.75\00:28:42.05 locked out, incarcerated... 00:28:42.08\00:28:43.42 See and this is, especially when it comes to drugs, 00:28:43.45\00:28:45.32 and drugs is not a respecter of persons, 00:28:45.35\00:28:48.12 it crosses all social economy. 00:28:48.16\00:28:49.92 Fifty percentage of the people 00:28:49.96\00:28:51.29 who are incarcerated today are there because of drugs 00:28:51.33\00:28:53.50 because I ask this question almost every time. 00:28:53.53\00:28:55.66 Wow, you know, Shelley, 00:28:55.70\00:28:57.97 Michael has a unique... 00:28:58.00\00:29:01.60 Maybe we can put it this way. 00:29:01.64\00:29:02.97 He has been prepared uniquely by God 00:29:03.00\00:29:05.77 for this kind of ministry because Michael knows 00:29:05.81\00:29:08.91 what it's like to have been pushed aside. 00:29:08.94\00:29:11.21 Oh, yes. Oh, yes. Have been abandoned as it were. 00:29:11.25\00:29:15.42 From a figure that should have been protecting 00:29:15.45\00:29:18.49 and loving and lifting you up 00:29:18.52\00:29:20.76 and that's I'm talking about your father. 00:29:20.79\00:29:22.22 Father, yes. 00:29:22.26\00:29:24.73 I went for years thinking that someone else is my father 00:29:24.76\00:29:27.26 up until I was like 11 years old. 00:29:27.30\00:29:29.06 And when I finally was able to meet this man 00:29:29.10\00:29:31.73 because my mother and he has separated. 00:29:31.77\00:29:34.00 He looked at my two older sisters 00:29:34.04\00:29:35.54 and he accepted them 00:29:35.57\00:29:36.91 but he rejected me right there on the spot. 00:29:36.94\00:29:39.11 And in my heart I'm wondering why is he rejecting me, 00:29:39.14\00:29:41.34 but coming to find out, I was a mistake, I was an accident, 00:29:41.38\00:29:44.28 but I realized down the line that God don't make mistakes. 00:29:44.31\00:29:47.32 But the problem in most of our institutions, 00:29:47.35\00:29:50.69 our facilities, our correctional facilities, 00:29:50.72\00:29:53.89 lot of those men and women 00:29:53.92\00:29:55.26 and teenagers were incarcerated, 00:29:55.29\00:29:58.39 because they don't have that father figure 00:29:58.43\00:30:00.63 in their home. 00:30:00.66\00:30:02.00 And somewhere along the line they got lost. 00:30:02.03\00:30:03.70 And so I think that the fathers need to step up 00:30:03.73\00:30:05.97 and lead their children 00:30:06.00\00:30:07.54 right into the arms of Jesus Christ. 00:30:07.57\00:30:09.40 But you know, I was just thinking 00:30:09.44\00:30:10.77 when you said that word correctional, 00:30:10.81\00:30:12.37 there is not just a whole lot of correction 00:30:12.41\00:30:14.08 that goes on or rehabilitation that goes on. 00:30:14.11\00:30:16.28 I call it a university of crime. 00:30:16.31\00:30:18.01 Yes. 00:30:18.05\00:30:19.55 So the... 00:30:19.58\00:30:21.75 You mentioned when we were in the green room 00:30:21.78\00:30:23.52 that this is their wilderness experience. 00:30:23.55\00:30:25.79 I want you to talk to that, 00:30:25.82\00:30:27.16 because the thing is I'm sitting here thinking 00:30:27.19\00:30:29.36 that if people don't go out to share, 00:30:29.39\00:30:34.00 if you don't visit, 00:30:34.03\00:30:35.43 you don't get involved in prison ministries, 00:30:35.46\00:30:37.87 then these same people, 00:30:37.90\00:30:39.23 there is kind of a revolving door, 00:30:39.27\00:30:40.74 when they do get out, 00:30:40.77\00:30:42.10 they usually end up going back in. 00:30:42.14\00:30:43.51 Their only hope is as we said, as Jesus told Paul. 00:30:43.54\00:30:50.35 Jesus is sending people in there to open their eyes 00:30:50.38\00:30:53.15 and turn them from darkness to light 00:30:53.18\00:30:55.28 from the power of Satan to God. 00:30:55.32\00:30:56.69 It's almost like mom and dad says, 00:30:56.72\00:30:58.05 you need a time out, you go to your room 00:30:58.09\00:30:59.72 and think about what you've just done. 00:30:59.75\00:31:01.36 And so when these guys are incarcerated, 00:31:01.39\00:31:03.83 they're sitting in prison, 00:31:03.86\00:31:05.19 and that's why it's very important, 00:31:05.23\00:31:06.56 very important that we go into these prisons 00:31:06.59\00:31:08.46 and teach them the gospel of Jesus Christ. 00:31:08.50\00:31:10.97 In that way when they, when they... 00:31:11.00\00:31:12.87 While they're sitting in there, I'll tell them 00:31:12.90\00:31:14.50 like Moses, he had to go out into the... 00:31:14.54\00:31:16.64 He left the palace and went to the desert 00:31:16.67\00:31:18.81 to find Christ Jesus, to find God. 00:31:18.84\00:31:21.04 And lot of these inmates, 00:31:21.08\00:31:22.41 they will find God in these institutions 00:31:22.44\00:31:25.11 and that's what I call their wilderness so to speak. 00:31:25.15\00:31:29.68 And so that's where they can find the savior. 00:31:29.72\00:31:31.92 And that's why it's so important 00:31:31.95\00:31:33.36 that we go into these prisons and teach them. 00:31:33.39\00:31:35.29 And let me read you something real quick here. 00:31:35.32\00:31:36.83 Sure. 00:31:36.86\00:31:38.86 Matthew 25:35-36, "For I was hungry 00:31:38.89\00:31:43.93 and you gave me something to eat, 00:31:43.97\00:31:46.47 I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, 00:31:46.50\00:31:49.20 I was a stranger and you invited me in, 00:31:49.24\00:31:52.71 I need a clothes and you clothed me, 00:31:52.74\00:31:55.01 I was sick and you looked after me, 00:31:55.04\00:31:57.95 I was in prison and you came to visit me." 00:31:57.98\00:32:00.55 Amen. 00:32:00.58\00:32:01.92 So you're actually visiting Jesus 00:32:01.95\00:32:03.28 when you go into these prisons. 00:32:03.32\00:32:04.65 Now lot of people think that these guys aren't good, 00:32:04.69\00:32:06.45 rightfully so, they should be in these places, and yeah, 00:32:06.49\00:32:08.76 you're right, they broke the law of the land. 00:32:08.79\00:32:11.03 But that doesn't mean that they should be forgotten. 00:32:11.06\00:32:13.66 There is still hope in these people. 00:32:13.70\00:32:15.76 And God don't cast anyone to the side. 00:32:15.80\00:32:18.83 And so I encourage those who are out there, 00:32:18.87\00:32:22.04 don't just look down on these people, 00:32:22.07\00:32:23.81 start a prison ministry in your church. 00:32:23.84\00:32:25.81 Go out, and go out and take this commission 00:32:25.84\00:32:28.38 that God has given us, 00:32:28.41\00:32:29.74 and reach out to these individuals 00:32:29.78\00:32:31.11 who are lost temporarily, because you know, 00:32:31.15\00:32:33.55 never could tell the hand that you help up, 00:32:33.58\00:32:36.75 may be the hand it may help you up one day. 00:32:36.79\00:32:39.02 I mean, I may be incarcerated, I may need you, Brian, 00:32:39.05\00:32:41.82 and you, Shelley, 00:32:41.86\00:32:43.19 or even my wife to come and visit me. 00:32:43.22\00:32:44.86 I pray that would never happen, but it could happen you know, 00:32:44.89\00:32:48.26 because there are so many people 00:32:48.30\00:32:49.63 who are locked up incarcerated today 00:32:49.66\00:32:51.23 for the crimes that they didn't commit. 00:32:51.27\00:32:52.93 You know, and I've heard so many stories about men 00:32:52.97\00:32:55.00 who were incarcerated for 20, 30 years of their lives 00:32:55.04\00:32:57.61 and coming to find out 00:32:57.64\00:32:58.97 that they were innocent of the crime. 00:32:59.01\00:33:00.34 Yes. 00:33:00.38\00:33:01.74 I like to speak to those of you 00:33:01.78\00:33:05.05 who are in prison ministry doing prison ministry. 00:33:05.08\00:33:10.22 You're going in each week to hold the service 00:33:10.25\00:33:12.89 and we pray that God is really blessing you 00:33:12.92\00:33:15.76 as you do that. 00:33:15.79\00:33:17.13 Often times I don't know about your experience 00:33:17.16\00:33:19.19 but mine is we'll get 10, 15 may be 20 inmates 00:33:19.23\00:33:25.83 to come out to our service 00:33:25.87\00:33:27.97 and then as some leave and they are released, 00:33:28.00\00:33:32.87 then we lose some and sometimes we gain some, 00:33:32.91\00:33:35.94 but we never really build our ministry up much 00:33:35.98\00:33:39.51 beyond the 10, 15 may be 20 that will come into service. 00:33:39.55\00:33:46.42 What we've discovered in experimenting 00:33:46.45\00:33:49.26 with our prison ministry 00:33:49.29\00:33:50.79 is when we have someone like Michael and Lynn 00:33:50.83\00:33:54.40 come to our prison and hold an event. 00:33:54.43\00:33:58.27 I call that an awareness event 00:33:58.30\00:34:00.74 and that opens it up to a wider group of people 00:34:00.77\00:34:03.91 who are incarcerated in that same prison 00:34:03.94\00:34:05.67 that will never come to your service 00:34:05.71\00:34:07.81 except if they were made aware of it in some way. 00:34:07.84\00:34:11.28 And so Michael and Lynn come in, 00:34:11.31\00:34:13.72 and Lynn shares message on health, 00:34:13.75\00:34:16.79 Michael shares testimony and music, 00:34:16.82\00:34:20.49 the gospel through music 00:34:20.52\00:34:22.66 and it reaches 150, 200 of the people 00:34:22.69\00:34:28.43 who will come to your concert, 00:34:28.46\00:34:30.20 and then from that you'll build your weekly service, 00:34:30.23\00:34:34.00 and so that's how you have blessed Michael and Lynn, 00:34:34.04\00:34:38.14 you have blessed our ministry through that means. 00:34:38.17\00:34:42.44 And you know the gospel is preached, 00:34:42.48\00:34:46.15 but when it's preached through music, 00:34:46.18\00:34:48.65 it touches the emotion of their heart 00:34:48.68\00:34:50.99 like it will in no other way. 00:34:51.02\00:34:53.56 You know, God has specially designed 00:34:53.59\00:34:56.26 that music accompanied with the gospel message... 00:34:56.29\00:35:01.30 Testimony, testimony. Will touch lives. 00:35:01.33\00:35:03.50 And so anyway I would encourage, 00:35:03.53\00:35:05.90 I encourage you to invite Michael and Lynn 00:35:05.93\00:35:09.94 to be a part of your prison ministry in your area. 00:35:09.97\00:35:12.91 They'll be open to it and little down the road 00:35:12.94\00:35:15.78 we'll share how you can contact him with that. 00:35:15.81\00:35:18.51 Absolutely. 00:35:18.55\00:35:19.88 You know, I have two nephews who have been incarcerated 00:35:19.91\00:35:22.38 for most of their lives. 00:35:22.42\00:35:24.12 I have one nephew has been in jail since he was, 00:35:24.15\00:35:27.06 well for the last 22 years 00:35:27.09\00:35:29.06 and I'm praying that God will somehow release him from that, 00:35:29.09\00:35:34.30 but I have such a heart for prison ministry, 00:35:34.33\00:35:40.10 because there are so many people out there 00:35:40.14\00:35:41.54 that needs to hear the gospel of Jesus Christ. 00:35:41.57\00:35:44.37 And when they come out of the prisons, 00:35:44.41\00:35:46.21 maybe they may be, you never could tell what God, 00:35:46.24\00:35:48.68 what future God has for their lives. 00:35:48.71\00:35:50.71 That why it's important 00:35:50.75\00:35:52.08 that we don't just push them to the side 00:35:52.11\00:35:53.72 and just forget about them. 00:35:53.75\00:35:55.18 We need to go into these prisons. 00:35:55.22\00:35:56.55 We need to have more prison ministries 00:35:56.58\00:35:58.09 in our churches and we need to have more of an outreach. 00:35:58.12\00:36:00.69 And you know something... 00:36:00.72\00:36:02.42 Well, it can't be all things 00:36:02.46\00:36:03.79 to all people, I put it that way, 00:36:03.83\00:36:05.16 because we all have our part in the body. 00:36:05.19\00:36:07.36 J.D. and I never really felt particularly called 00:36:07.40\00:36:11.23 to "prison ministries" but we've gone and done it 00:36:11.27\00:36:13.60 and we loved it, just shocked us. 00:36:13.64\00:36:15.80 And I remember when we were in Indiana at, 00:36:15.84\00:36:18.34 I think it was maximum security prison 00:36:18.37\00:36:20.08 and J.D. got up to speak. 00:36:20.11\00:36:22.04 We were with Lemuel Vega in Christmas Behind Bars 00:36:22.08\00:36:25.01 and J.D. got up to speak. 00:36:25.05\00:36:26.48 And you know what was so interesting? 00:36:26.51\00:36:28.62 You know, you go in and cling behind, 00:36:28.65\00:36:31.89 you cling behind, that's fascinating experience. 00:36:31.92\00:36:35.86 But then here you're sitting in the chapel 00:36:35.89\00:36:37.93 with all of these gentlemen 00:36:37.96\00:36:39.63 and afterward we were giving out gift, gift bags. 00:36:39.66\00:36:43.97 And every one of these guys I mean, when J.D. was there 00:36:44.00\00:36:46.80 I could see the tears in their eyes, 00:36:46.84\00:36:48.40 and now they were trying to when he was speaking. 00:36:48.44\00:36:50.87 But when we lined up to give those gift bags, 00:36:50.91\00:36:54.31 J.D. was sitting at there 00:36:54.34\00:36:55.68 and he hugged the first guy that came through, 00:36:55.71\00:36:57.61 every guy was waiting for his hug. 00:36:57.65\00:37:00.18 And what you said it occurred to me 00:37:00.22\00:37:02.98 when you said that that it's a father's rejection, 00:37:03.02\00:37:07.59 not having their father, 00:37:07.62\00:37:08.99 they saw him as a grandfather or a father figure, 00:37:09.02\00:37:12.33 and everybody needs to be loved 00:37:12.36\00:37:15.16 and so many people haven't experienced 00:37:15.20\00:37:19.50 that real love and to get introduced to the love of God 00:37:19.53\00:37:23.87 where they will then open their hearts 00:37:23.91\00:37:25.74 and allow God to love them. 00:37:25.77\00:37:27.24 That's amazing. Can I say something? 00:37:27.28\00:37:29.11 There is a story about a man 00:37:29.14\00:37:30.48 who raised his son up in the church. 00:37:30.51\00:37:34.38 The mother passed away as she was giving birth 00:37:34.42\00:37:39.39 and the father raises son the best he knew how 00:37:39.42\00:37:42.72 and took him to cradle roll and you know, 00:37:42.76\00:37:45.19 throughout the church up until he got to certain age 00:37:45.23\00:37:47.66 and the son drifted away from God 00:37:47.70\00:37:50.30 and started to go out to different nightclubs 00:37:50.33\00:37:52.83 and places where Christians shouldn't be, 00:37:52.87\00:37:55.74 and somehow somewhere he ended up on the other side. 00:37:55.77\00:37:59.17 And one night, late at night and his son 00:37:59.21\00:38:02.78 and his father look so much alike you know, 00:38:02.81\00:38:04.68 when you see the son you saw the father, 00:38:04.71\00:38:06.92 you saw the father, you saw the son. 00:38:06.95\00:38:08.78 And one night, 00:38:08.82\00:38:10.55 very late may be midnight 2 o'clock in the morning 00:38:10.59\00:38:13.56 there was a urgent rap at the door 00:38:13.59\00:38:16.12 and the father came out and look off the window 00:38:16.16\00:38:18.36 and didn't recognize who was knocking on the door. 00:38:18.39\00:38:21.60 And so finally he heard a voice that said, dad it's me. 00:38:21.63\00:38:28.24 And the father opened the door 00:38:28.27\00:38:29.60 and realize it was a son and embraced him 00:38:29.64\00:38:31.27 and the son fell to the floor 00:38:31.31\00:38:33.44 and covered with blood from his head to his toes. 00:38:33.48\00:38:38.15 He says, dad, I killed a man tonight at the bar 00:38:38.18\00:38:42.72 that I frequently go to. 00:38:42.75\00:38:44.95 He had a knife in his hand and he says 00:38:44.99\00:38:47.32 and the police would probably be here any minute now 00:38:47.36\00:38:49.32 because they saw me as I drove off. 00:38:49.36\00:38:51.73 And father hurried his son in the back then 00:38:51.76\00:38:53.90 and told him to take a shower, 00:38:53.93\00:38:55.26 change clothes and he gave his son some money 00:38:55.30\00:38:58.07 and he said you take my car in the garage 00:38:58.10\00:39:00.10 and you drive as far away from this place 00:39:00.14\00:39:01.94 as you possibly can. 00:39:01.97\00:39:03.77 And so the son said, thank you dad and drove away. 00:39:03.81\00:39:07.71 And immediately the father changed into his son's clothes 00:39:07.74\00:39:12.15 and just as he changed into his son's clothes, 00:39:12.18\00:39:15.75 the bloody clothes, 00:39:15.78\00:39:17.29 the police kicked the door open, 00:39:17.32\00:39:19.25 and they arrested him, 00:39:19.29\00:39:21.62 because he look so much like a son, 00:39:21.66\00:39:23.02 and they arrested him, they tried him, 00:39:23.06\00:39:25.56 they convicted him and he was executed in his son's place. 00:39:25.59\00:39:31.67 And that's what Jesus has done for us 00:39:31.70\00:39:34.60 and that's what these inmates need to hear. 00:39:34.64\00:39:36.71 They need to hear that Jesus loves them so much 00:39:36.74\00:39:39.34 that He took their place. 00:39:39.37\00:39:41.84 Died the death that they should have died, 00:39:41.88\00:39:43.48 and the son heard about this little later down the road 00:39:43.51\00:39:46.21 and realized what his father had done for him, 00:39:46.25\00:39:48.92 and this changed his life forever. 00:39:48.95\00:39:50.89 Amen. What a story. 00:39:50.92\00:39:52.25 You know, Shelley, I just want to speak to the inmates 00:39:52.29\00:39:54.92 and people incarcerated because in my Bible it says 00:39:54.96\00:39:57.73 none are righteous, you know, not one. 00:39:57.76\00:40:00.56 And so if you've been incarcerated, 00:40:00.60\00:40:03.20 we break, that you have broken the law of the land 00:40:03.23\00:40:06.23 but we break the law of love, the God's heart everyday. 00:40:06.27\00:40:10.77 And so all of us just should be as incarcerated as anyone else 00:40:10.81\00:40:14.38 because of we break God's law everyday. 00:40:14.41\00:40:18.05 And so when you feel like you're down and out 00:40:18.08\00:40:20.48 and you've been forgotten, 00:40:20.52\00:40:23.15 your value can never be taken away. 00:40:23.18\00:40:25.92 No one can take your value. 00:40:25.95\00:40:27.52 God created you with a purpose and that value is there 00:40:27.56\00:40:30.59 and when you give your heart to him 00:40:30.63\00:40:32.19 and just ask him to cleanse your all unrighteousness 00:40:32.23\00:40:34.63 and confess your sins to Him, He says, 00:40:34.66\00:40:36.60 He's faithful and just to forgive you of your sins. 00:40:36.63\00:40:39.60 And if you can make right things 00:40:39.63\00:40:41.00 with the people that you have wrong, 00:40:41.04\00:40:42.84 some of us can't because they are not even here 00:40:42.87\00:40:45.67 or it's impossible, 00:40:45.71\00:40:47.11 make them right with God right now, 00:40:47.14\00:40:49.11 and He will accept you just as if you've never sinned. 00:40:49.14\00:40:52.51 And so we are, all of us who are outside, 00:40:52.55\00:40:55.22 we break God's heart and His law everyday 00:40:55.25\00:40:58.25 and so we have, we're gonna all be really guilty, 00:40:58.29\00:41:01.49 and I just want people to know that you are not, 00:41:01.52\00:41:05.09 you're even though society may try to forget you, 00:41:05.13\00:41:08.33 God never forgets you. 00:41:08.36\00:41:09.96 So Jesus took off His robe of divinity, 00:41:10.00\00:41:13.03 and put on His robe of humanity. 00:41:13.07\00:41:15.24 You know, Shelley, 00:41:15.27\00:41:17.84 this DVD that we saw one of the songs on 00:41:17.87\00:41:24.81 An Evening with Michael Harris. 00:41:24.85\00:41:27.02 We would like to make this available to our viewers, 00:41:27.05\00:41:33.22 if you would give a donation of $25 00:41:33.25\00:41:37.39 toward 3ABN's prison ministry. 00:41:37.43\00:41:40.50 Twenty five or more. you as the wife of the singer, 00:45:00.53\00:45:04.63 you're the one who kind of puts all things together, 00:45:04.67\00:45:07.24 but you also do a lot of the health messages. 00:45:07.27\00:45:09.47 What has been the most challenging thing 00:45:09.50\00:45:11.97 about prison ministry for you 00:45:12.01\00:45:13.81 or vice-versa what's been most rewarding? 00:45:13.84\00:45:16.01 Well, one thing about Michael is this is all he loves to do. 00:45:16.04\00:45:20.92 I mean, it's throughout the whole week 00:45:20.95\00:45:23.28 he's just preparing a talks for prisons 00:45:23.32\00:45:26.35 or churches and he just... 00:45:26.39\00:45:27.96 He's in the recording studio all the time 00:45:27.99\00:45:30.66 even if our finances aren't there, 00:45:30.69\00:45:32.66 he just can't wait to make recordings for people 00:45:32.69\00:45:34.86 because he just wants to inspire them, 00:45:34.90\00:45:36.97 so this is what he loves to do, and you see that passion, 00:45:37.00\00:45:39.77 you just wish you can get into more and more prisons, 00:45:39.80\00:45:42.84 and we are cleared for we went 00:45:42.87\00:45:44.91 and did a training for 30 prisons in California. 00:45:44.94\00:45:47.54 We went to the training to get into every single ones 00:45:47.58\00:45:49.84 and we're just waiting if there is prison ministries 00:45:49.88\00:45:52.18 that are in effect we are able to get cleared 00:45:52.21\00:45:55.32 and come in and do a program, 00:45:55.35\00:45:57.49 but one of things was fun with Brian 00:45:57.52\00:45:59.85 was the chaplain after doing a health talk with inmates, 00:45:59.89\00:46:03.59 they were trying to write down 00:46:03.63\00:46:04.96 all the things I was talking about. 00:46:04.99\00:46:06.43 I was doing the eight natural remedies 00:46:06.46\00:46:08.26 and they were trying to keep up with the Newstart acronym. 00:46:08.30\00:46:11.10 And the chaplain said listen, just here's my email, 00:46:11.13\00:46:13.94 these inmates want more information on health 00:46:13.97\00:46:16.47 so you have a... 00:46:16.50\00:46:17.84 I'll be your liaison, just send me anything you want. 00:46:17.87\00:46:21.04 And so the doors to prison ministry can come 00:46:21.08\00:46:23.14 in many ways and the chaplain now 00:46:23.18\00:46:25.08 we email back and forth and give him health information 00:46:25.11\00:46:28.48 that he can give to the inmates 00:46:28.52\00:46:30.09 and the inmates were teaching the other inmates 00:46:30.12\00:46:32.45 in these different prison 00:46:32.49\00:46:33.89 so with the things that we share. 00:46:33.92\00:46:35.66 So I see that it's not only helping the inmates 00:46:35.69\00:46:38.76 but even the staff they said 00:46:38.79\00:46:40.96 this is helping our families too, 00:46:41.00\00:46:42.70 and so we don't even realize how far and why God, 00:46:42.73\00:46:46.87 you know, God's love is and his health message 00:46:46.90\00:46:49.67 is not something we need to be embarrassed about. 00:46:49.70\00:46:51.94 It's in the very first book of the Bible. 00:46:51.97\00:46:54.18 And so... 00:46:54.21\00:46:55.54 Well, you know, what we'd like to do right now 00:46:55.58\00:46:57.18 we agree with you totally 00:46:57.21\00:46:58.55 but you said that what introduced you 00:46:58.58\00:47:01.65 to this man was you were looking for the song, 00:47:01.68\00:47:03.92 Were it not for Grace and you found it on 3ABN, 00:47:03.95\00:47:07.26 and on YouTube I guess it was. 00:47:07.29\00:47:09.69 But what we'd like to do now is from the project 00:47:09.72\00:47:12.49 An Evening with Michael Harris 00:47:12.53\00:47:14.86 that we've been offering for $25 or more 00:47:14.90\00:47:19.30 donation for the prison ministries. 00:47:19.33\00:47:21.50 What we would like to do is play another selection 00:47:21.54\00:47:23.87 from that and it is, Were it not for Grace. 00:47:23.91\00:47:26.91 I've been saved by God's grace. 00:47:36.08\00:47:39.82 Time measured out my days 00:47:46.76\00:47:53.57 Life carried me along 00:47:53.60\00:48:01.01 In my soul I yearned 00:48:01.04\00:48:05.58 To follow God 00:48:05.61\00:48:08.42 But knew I'd never be so strong 00:48:08.45\00:48:14.49 I looked hard at this world 00:48:14.52\00:48:18.69 To learn how heaven 00:48:18.73\00:48:22.56 could be gained 00:48:22.60\00:48:27.74 Just to end where I began 00:48:27.77\00:48:32.77 Where human effort is all 00:48:32.81\00:48:39.11 In vain 00:48:39.15\00:48:43.99 Were it not for grace 00:48:44.02\00:48:51.43 I can tell you where I'd be 00:48:51.46\00:48:58.33 Wandering down some pointless road to nowhere 00:48:58.37\00:49:05.67 With my salvation up to me 00:49:05.71\00:49:12.01 I know how that would go 00:49:12.05\00:49:18.92 The battles I would face 00:49:18.95\00:49:25.93 Forever running but losing the race 00:49:25.96\00:49:32.93 Were it not for grace 00:49:32.97\00:49:40.01 So here is all my praise 00:49:42.74\00:49:49.88 Expressed with all my heart 00:49:49.92\00:49:56.93 I offered to the Friend 00:49:56.96\00:50:01.06 He took my place 00:50:01.10\00:50:04.47 He ran a course I could not start 00:50:04.50\00:50:10.64 And when He saw in full 00:50:10.67\00:50:15.94 Just how much His love would cost 00:50:15.98\00:50:23.95 He still went the final mile 00:50:23.99\00:50:28.12 Between me and heaven 00:50:28.16\00:50:31.59 So I would not 00:50:31.63\00:50:35.30 Be lost 00:50:35.33\00:50:40.00 Were it not 00:50:40.04\00:50:43.51 For grace 00:50:43.54\00:50:48.68 I can tell you where I'd be 00:50:48.71\00:50:55.48 Wandering down some pointless road 00:50:55.52\00:51:00.39 To nowhere 00:51:00.42\00:51:02.92 With my salvation up to me 00:51:02.96\00:51:09.16 I know how that would go 00:51:09.20\00:51:15.97 The battles I would face 00:51:16.00\00:51:23.11 Forever running 00:51:23.14\00:51:27.42 But losing the race 00:51:27.45\00:51:30.65 Were it not for grace 00:51:30.69\00:51:38.26 Forever running 00:51:38.29\00:51:42.86 But losing the race 00:51:42.90\00:51:46.57 Were it not 00:51:46.60\00:51:50.04 For grace. 00:51:50.07\00:51:56.81
