Young lad. 00:09:29.66\00:09:31.00 Absolutely, I didn't know Jesus, 00:09:31.03\00:09:32.53 but Jesus knew me. 00:09:32.57\00:09:33.90 Yes. 00:09:33.94\00:09:35.27 And so my parents actually called a local Catholic priest 00:09:35.30\00:09:40.21 to come to bedside to give the last rites. 00:09:40.24\00:09:42.74 Oh, at six years old. At six years old. 00:09:42.78\00:09:45.91 Father could still remember at that age 00:09:45.95\00:09:49.75 even now if he was alive, 00:09:49.78\00:09:51.62 the screams are coming out of the medical ward 00:09:51.65\00:09:54.79 as doctors put a lumbar puncture. 00:09:54.82\00:09:57.89 It's a needle they put at the back of your spine 00:09:57.93\00:10:00.63 and endeavored to draw the poison in your blood 00:10:00.66\00:10:03.33 from this infection out. 00:10:03.37\00:10:05.70 And they did that to you. Absolutely, yeah. 00:10:05.73\00:10:08.60 And he said the screen would have measured 6.5 00:10:08.64\00:10:11.67 on the Richter scale. 00:10:11.71\00:10:13.91 It was just an amazing, Mollie, 00:10:13.94\00:10:15.94 because during the course of the 24 hours 00:10:15.98\00:10:19.38 as 24 hours went to 48 hours, the doctors still suggested 00:10:19.41\00:10:25.59 that won't come through that. 00:10:25.62\00:10:28.32 But over a period of a week, I'm still in a coma. 00:10:28.36\00:10:32.66 One week went to two weeks, which now went to three weeks. 00:10:32.69\00:10:36.83 After three weeks the doctors told my parents 00:10:36.87\00:10:40.27 that I will survive this but will be a vegetable, 00:10:40.30\00:10:44.17 the infection had closed the brain down. 00:10:44.21\00:10:46.88 And the best I could hope for was just intravenous feeding 00:10:46.91\00:10:50.45 and would be paralyzed. 00:10:50.48\00:10:51.95 So a vegetable at six years old. 00:10:51.98\00:10:53.72 At six years old. 00:10:53.75\00:10:55.48 And so over a period of the discussions 00:10:55.52\00:11:00.89 they had with my condition to with my parents, 00:11:00.92\00:11:02.96 they said during the course of the procedure 00:11:02.99\00:11:05.89 in terms of putting the lumbar puncture in 00:11:05.93\00:11:08.13 my heart stopped, 00:11:08.16\00:11:09.80 they said to my parents your son was clinically dead 00:11:09.83\00:11:13.64 for a period of two and half minutes. 00:11:13.67\00:11:16.04 There would be no medical reason 00:11:16.07\00:11:18.11 he would be alive today, 00:11:18.14\00:11:19.71 we don't know how that happened. 00:11:19.74\00:11:21.98 So first and foremost you're not supposed to survive 00:11:22.01\00:11:24.41 encephalitis to start with. 00:11:24.45\00:11:26.68 And then your heart stops. Absolutely. 00:11:26.72\00:11:29.98 And they would say it's a miracle 00:11:30.02\00:11:32.92 that your son is alive today. 00:11:32.95\00:11:35.96 But the best miracles is still yet to come, Mollie, 00:11:35.99\00:11:38.09 the most amazing miracles to come 00:11:38.13\00:11:41.13 is six months in the hospital now coming out of the coma. 00:11:41.16\00:11:46.37 That six months in hospital now went to one year to two years. 00:11:46.40\00:11:50.81 During the course, as a youngster 00:11:50.84\00:11:52.37 I can still remember, I could not walk. 00:11:52.41\00:11:54.68 Still being intravenously fed, could not talk. 00:11:54.71\00:11:57.95 I was still remembering the parents coming to the ward, 00:11:57.98\00:12:01.12 dressed like beekeepers. 00:12:01.15\00:12:02.92 They could not touch you 00:12:02.95\00:12:04.29 because of the transferring of that infection, 00:12:04.32\00:12:06.52 even the doctors as well, a very sterile environment. 00:12:06.55\00:12:10.23 Well, two years went to three years. 00:12:10.26\00:12:12.76 And so I was in this isolated ward 00:12:12.79\00:12:14.83 for a long, long time. 00:12:14.86\00:12:16.60 And over a period of four, five years later 00:12:16.63\00:12:21.67 I came out of hospital, 00:12:21.70\00:12:23.27 the issue is that I certainly 00:12:23.30\00:12:26.11 couldn't still not walk or talk, 00:12:26.14\00:12:28.54 but now I was beginning to stutter. 00:12:28.58\00:12:32.01 Stutter, so that would have made you what, 00:12:32.05\00:12:33.92 eleven or twelve years old, when you came out of hospital. 00:12:33.95\00:12:36.75 Yeah, that's correct. 00:12:36.79\00:12:38.12 And of course I missed all the schooling from them. 00:12:38.15\00:12:40.26 I didn't know Jesus 00:12:40.29\00:12:41.62 but Jesus certainly knew me and... 00:12:41.66\00:12:43.19 I love you when you say that. 00:12:43.22\00:12:44.56 Oh, absolutely and sometimes we think 00:12:44.59\00:12:47.00 that God has abandoned you 00:12:47.03\00:12:48.46 at the most difficult trials you've got, 00:12:48.50\00:12:51.27 darkest moments you go through, 00:12:51.30\00:12:52.63 but he's never abandons, he's always with you, 00:12:52.67\00:12:55.47 he's a captain of your cheering squad, 00:12:55.50\00:12:57.34 he will never leave you or what he says forsake you. 00:12:57.37\00:13:00.11 He means what he says. Absolutely. 00:13:00.14\00:13:02.84 But within a week of going back to school, 00:13:02.88\00:13:06.48 now I'm a large boy going to a kind of a kindergarten class. 00:13:06.51\00:13:10.29 And could you speak, you couldn't speak, just stutter? 00:13:10.32\00:13:12.49 I could hardly walk, but I was stuttering now. 00:13:12.52\00:13:17.49 But within a week or two going back to school, 00:13:17.53\00:13:22.53 I went to a local shop to buy a drink. 00:13:22.56\00:13:26.03 That was during school 00:13:26.07\00:13:27.54 with all the other school children 00:13:27.57\00:13:29.67 and as I was in a shop to buy a drink, 00:13:29.70\00:13:32.74 a stranger was in that shop as well. 00:13:32.77\00:13:36.14 And he said would you like an ice cream? 00:13:36.18\00:13:39.95 And of course, parents said don't talk to strangers. 00:13:39.98\00:13:43.62 But sometimes the young people don't know basically 00:13:43.65\00:13:45.82 when the think they do. 00:13:45.85\00:13:47.19 And you're eleven or twelve years old. 00:13:47.22\00:13:48.56 Yeah. 00:13:48.59\00:13:49.92 I said to the stranger who was very unkempt, untidy. 00:13:49.96\00:13:52.86 I said yeah, I love an ice cream. 00:13:52.89\00:13:54.83 So he canvassed over three scoops of ice cream 00:13:54.86\00:13:58.13 and a huge block of chocolate. 00:13:58.17\00:14:02.57 You call them Hershey's over here. 00:14:02.60\00:14:04.87 And said, you can have these, 00:14:04.91\00:14:06.91 but young man you got to come in my car 00:14:06.94\00:14:09.38 and you can have them. 00:14:09.41\00:14:12.68 And so I got in the car, and the car speed off. 00:14:12.71\00:14:16.15 Well, I was enjoying the ice cream 00:14:16.18\00:14:17.79 and by the time the chocolate was coming, 00:14:17.82\00:14:20.16 no school was in sight. 00:14:20.19\00:14:21.86 I was in the middle of a remote area 00:14:21.89\00:14:24.96 in the suburbs of New South Wales, 00:14:24.99\00:14:28.03 in Australia. 00:14:28.06\00:14:29.40 Yeah, how long have you been out of hospital at this time? 00:14:29.43\00:14:31.53 Only matter of weeks. Only a matter of a few weeks. 00:14:31.57\00:14:35.30 You've been confined to the hospital, 00:14:35.34\00:14:37.84 come home and in just a few weeks, 00:14:37.87\00:14:40.74 you're abducted. 00:14:40.78\00:14:42.44 And look, three scoops of ice cream 00:14:42.48\00:14:43.95 after you spend all of your years in hospital 00:14:43.98\00:14:46.75 and big blocks of chocolates is very enticing to a young man 00:14:46.78\00:14:50.85 just out of hospital. 00:14:50.89\00:14:53.42 By now when the chocolate is finished 00:14:53.46\00:14:54.92 and the ice creams are done, I'm saying please take me home. 00:14:54.96\00:14:59.19 You know something's wrong. Sure. 00:14:59.23\00:15:01.56 But of course the area, I mean it's not familiar to me, 00:15:01.60\00:15:03.83 but was familiar to the driver. 00:15:03.87\00:15:07.04 During the course of the day that police were now called, 00:15:07.07\00:15:11.44 I'm being missing. 00:15:11.47\00:15:12.81 And then began one of the biggest searchers 00:15:12.84\00:15:14.88 for a missing young child back in those days, 00:15:14.91\00:15:17.61 which was in Australia's history. 00:15:17.65\00:15:20.92 What it transpired was he took me to a remote area 00:15:20.95\00:15:23.79 of New South Wales into bush land 00:15:23.82\00:15:27.76 where you can scream 6.4 on the Richter scale 00:15:27.79\00:15:32.03 and they never ever hear you. 00:15:32.06\00:15:33.90 He got over off his car and he pulled out his knife 00:15:33.93\00:15:36.46 and his knife was huge. 00:15:36.50\00:15:39.27 And came around the side door and pulled out, 00:15:39.30\00:15:41.97 pulled me out screaming. 00:15:42.00\00:15:44.31 And he got the knife 00:15:44.34\00:15:45.67 and he just ripped down the front of your clothes 00:15:45.71\00:15:48.04 and ripped the skin and then he sexually abused me. 00:15:48.08\00:15:52.21 So sad. Yeah. 00:15:52.25\00:15:53.65 And even now I didn't know Jesus, 00:15:53.68\00:15:55.28 Jesus knew me. 00:15:55.32\00:15:56.65 Yes. 00:15:56.69\00:15:58.02 Sometimes we're put into darkness 00:15:58.05\00:15:59.39 to appreciate his light. 00:15:59.42\00:16:00.76 Oh my. 00:16:00.79\00:16:02.12 He physically abused me for some hours and drove off. 00:16:02.16\00:16:06.76 So I was left in a remote area bush land 00:16:06.80\00:16:09.46 where it would be unlikely I will be found again, 00:16:09.50\00:16:12.90 it's certainly was not his intent. 00:16:12.93\00:16:14.27 So he left you for dying. Yeah, absolutely. 00:16:14.30\00:16:17.37 And no clothes, bleeding profusely, 00:16:17.41\00:16:20.04 screaming and for all likes, 00:16:20.08\00:16:22.58 he had left and thought I was dead. 00:16:22.61\00:16:24.61 Well, so happened that during the course 00:16:24.65\00:16:27.25 where the night hunters were in that remote region 00:16:27.28\00:16:29.58 hunting our national animal, the kangaroo. 00:16:29.62\00:16:32.82 Kangaroo. 00:16:32.85\00:16:34.19 In the evening and they came across 00:16:34.22\00:16:35.89 what they thought was a baby kangaroo, 00:16:35.92\00:16:38.06 they call them joeys. 00:16:38.09\00:16:39.79 And one of the hunters came down 00:16:39.83\00:16:41.16 and put his shotgun to the head 00:16:41.20\00:16:43.26 which he thought was a small dead kangaroo, 00:16:43.30\00:16:46.60 but he realized it was a human being, it was me. 00:16:46.63\00:16:49.14 Oh my. 00:16:49.17\00:16:50.51 And of course, then straight to hospital, 00:16:50.54\00:16:53.88 then of course the police straight to hospital, 00:16:53.91\00:16:56.18 then became a matter for life and death. 00:16:56.21\00:16:59.28 And what were the chances 00:16:59.31\00:17:00.65 if the hunters wouldn't have found you? 00:17:00.68\00:17:02.92 Again, Jesus knew you. 00:17:02.95\00:17:04.69 God had already had a plan for my life, 00:17:04.72\00:17:06.86 bigger than whatever I ever thought, Mollie, 00:17:06.89\00:17:08.99 it was incredible. 00:17:09.02\00:17:10.66 And during the course of the operation 00:17:10.69\00:17:13.93 to put the broken body back together again. 00:17:13.96\00:17:16.80 You can imagine the loss of blood, 00:17:16.83\00:17:18.43 the blood transfusions, 00:17:18.47\00:17:20.34 the doctors warned my parents again 00:17:20.37\00:17:22.70 that he would not come through this. 00:17:22.74\00:17:25.74 You weren't gonna make it again. 00:17:25.77\00:17:27.11 No. 00:17:27.14\00:17:28.48 And during the course of the surgery, 00:17:28.51\00:17:32.21 they told my parents 00:17:32.25\00:17:33.58 and I didn't wasn't told these till years later 00:17:33.62\00:17:36.05 that my heart had stopped again, 00:17:36.08\00:17:38.25 and they got the heart going through electric shocks 00:17:38.29\00:17:40.36 to try and get the body going back together 00:17:40.39\00:17:42.46 to try and put those broken pieces 00:17:42.49\00:17:44.29 back together again. 00:17:44.33\00:17:46.59 I didn't know Jesus, 00:17:46.63\00:17:47.96 Jesus certainly knew me and had a plan, 00:17:48.00\00:17:50.47 and that's twice clinically dead. 00:17:50.50\00:17:53.97 Heart stopped. Heart stopped. 00:17:54.00\00:17:55.87 And I didn't know Jesus, but Jesus certainly knew me. 00:17:55.90\00:18:00.38 What a Jesus we have, but wait there's more. 00:18:00.41\00:18:06.15 You can remember you went through the court case 00:18:06.18\00:18:09.15 as we try to find this man. 00:18:09.18\00:18:10.95 Went into, looked at all the police photos, 00:18:10.99\00:18:13.72 books and books of police photos 00:18:13.76\00:18:15.49 over a period of two or three years 00:18:15.52\00:18:17.49 that took me to get over that the court case 00:18:17.53\00:18:20.10 identifying the man police line ups. 00:18:20.13\00:18:22.70 So this makes you about 15 or 16? 00:18:22.73\00:18:25.27 I'm now 16. Sixteen, okay. 00:18:25.30\00:18:27.34 And father says, son... 00:18:27.37\00:18:29.64 haven't been to school. 00:18:29.67\00:18:31.34 He said, "Son let's go fishing and before it got bad 00:18:31.37\00:18:34.41 let us send you to school again." 00:18:34.44\00:18:36.48 And I was taking an empty bottle to a shop 00:18:36.51\00:18:42.22 to get a soft drink for dad, and it started to rain. 00:18:42.25\00:18:45.99 And as the rain came down, 00:18:46.02\00:18:48.39 I was starting to run with the soft drink bottle, 00:18:48.42\00:18:50.29 empty one in my hand. 00:18:50.33\00:18:51.66 Glass bottle? 00:18:51.69\00:18:53.03 Yep, that was a glass bottle in those days. 00:18:53.06\00:18:57.27 And you took the bottle to the shop 00:18:57.30\00:18:59.57 to get a refund on the empty bottle. 00:18:59.60\00:19:02.54 And so it rained and the steps leading up to the shop, 00:19:02.57\00:19:05.61 as a rain came down faster, I ran faster. 00:19:05.64\00:19:08.84 And as I ran up the stairs I slipped. 00:19:08.88\00:19:12.55 And so the hand and the bottle on to the cement. 00:19:12.58\00:19:15.62 Oh, I was just thinking about it. 00:19:15.65\00:19:19.85 And so the hand lands on the counter of the shop. 00:19:19.89\00:19:25.29 And of course I've got no hand, into, 00:19:25.33\00:19:28.46 they packed into all ice then. 00:19:28.50\00:19:30.87 So your hand was completely cut off? 00:19:30.90\00:19:32.77 Sure. Oh. 00:19:32.80\00:19:35.60 And so off to hospital again. Off to the hospital. 00:19:35.64\00:19:39.27 And during the course of that operation 00:19:39.31\00:19:42.84 to put the hand back on, that the race 00:19:42.88\00:19:45.45 was on not only trying to save the hand, 00:19:45.48\00:19:47.75 but save the life. 00:19:47.78\00:19:49.25 Because of perfuse. Yeah, absolutely. 00:19:49.28\00:19:53.62 And as the doctors were trying to put the hand back on, 00:19:53.66\00:19:57.56 the heart gave away. 00:19:57.59\00:19:59.43 Stopped again? 00:19:59.46\00:20:01.00 It stopped and I was clinically dead. 00:20:01.03\00:20:04.47 They actually were moving me out of the operating theater 00:20:04.50\00:20:08.17 to a ward, when I was pretty well of to the morgue 00:20:08.20\00:20:12.01 when a nurse wheeling the trolley saw my toe move, 00:20:12.04\00:20:18.11 and they got back into the operation straight back 00:20:18.15\00:20:19.98 and said, doctor, doctor his toe moved. 00:20:20.02\00:20:23.15 I'm back into the operating theatre, 00:20:23.18\00:20:25.19 and bang the electric shocks unto the heart. 00:20:25.22\00:20:27.19 And then, and then the heart started again. 00:20:30.26\00:20:34.03 Restored the hand and restored, and they restored my life. 00:20:34.06\00:20:37.53 Which hand, which hand? It is this hand here. 00:20:37.57\00:20:42.27 Doesn't completely straighten I think. 00:20:42.30\00:20:43.84 No, it doesn't. But you got your hand. 00:20:43.87\00:20:46.94 One hand for Jesus is enough. Okay. 00:20:46.98\00:20:49.44 Guy behind me back with one hand 00:20:49.48\00:20:51.05 is enough he says. 00:20:51.08\00:20:54.62 And during the course of my recovery 00:20:54.65\00:20:55.98 there in hospital, 00:20:56.02\00:20:57.59 the voice I'm speaking to you now is clear as crystal, 00:20:57.62\00:21:00.36 Mollie, spoke to me, he said Dennis, 00:21:00.39\00:21:02.96 your life is no longer yours. 00:21:02.99\00:21:05.03 I come to you, I own it and I claim it, 00:21:05.06\00:21:07.06 I anoint you and I'm gonna appoint you. 00:21:07.10\00:21:09.76 Now that voice has been speaking today 00:21:09.80\00:21:13.20 as he speaks to me like that everyday. 00:21:13.23\00:21:15.00 He knows your purpose in life. 00:21:15.04\00:21:16.97 He says, Dennis, you've been saved to serve. 00:21:17.01\00:21:20.28 Saved to serve. 00:21:20.31\00:21:21.74 And he said, some of the things I've learned in those, 00:21:21.78\00:21:25.48 in my journey is this, 00:21:25.51\00:21:27.62 a setback is only a setup for a comeback. 00:21:27.65\00:21:31.52 Say that again. 00:21:31.55\00:21:32.89 A setback in your life is only a setup for a comeback. 00:21:32.92\00:21:37.46 All right. 00:21:37.49\00:21:38.83 A setback is a setup for a comeback. 00:21:38.86\00:21:40.66 Absolutely with Jesus Christ, all things are possible. 00:21:40.70\00:21:44.53 Your stumbling blocks can be stepping stones. 00:21:44.57\00:21:48.20 Your trials can be triumphs. 00:21:48.24\00:21:51.64 Your scars in life can be turned into stars. 00:21:51.67\00:21:55.44 A positive outlook. 00:21:55.48\00:21:56.81 Absolutely. What a mess it was. 00:22:47.23\00:22:50.67 But whatever mess you're in, God has got a message for you. 00:22:50.70\00:22:54.50 God loves you and he's got something planned. 00:22:54.54\00:22:58.04 After your winter comes the fall. 00:22:58.07\00:23:00.91 Look out for the birds singing in the fall, 00:23:00.94\00:23:03.24 they're coming soon. 00:23:03.28\00:23:04.95 Absolutely, beautiful. 00:23:04.98\00:23:07.22 Okay, so that your hand is reattached. 00:23:07.25\00:23:11.72 Obviously you made it through that one as well, 00:23:11.75\00:23:15.26 so now that makes you about 16 or 17 years old. 00:23:15.29\00:23:18.99 Where did you go from there? 00:23:19.03\00:23:20.73 Well, I was... 00:23:20.76\00:23:22.96 I went straight to find a job, because schooling was, 00:23:23.00\00:23:26.33 I've missed all the schooling, 00:23:26.37\00:23:27.70 just a labor job just to start earning money. 00:23:27.74\00:23:29.94 But in the mean time, Jesus had told you 00:23:29.97\00:23:31.97 that your life don't belong to you anymore, 00:23:32.01\00:23:33.81 but it belongs to him. 00:23:33.84\00:23:35.18 Yeah, I thought I'd have to go door to door selling Bibles. 00:23:35.21\00:23:39.31 That's what I thought, 00:23:39.35\00:23:40.68 but it's not what Jesus had in plan. 00:23:40.72\00:23:42.45 I thought I'd go into a book center 00:23:42.48\00:23:45.62 and sell Christian literature. 00:23:45.65\00:23:48.19 That's what I thought. 00:23:48.22\00:23:49.79 But to go through that door, 00:23:49.82\00:23:51.16 I had to walk through other doors 00:23:51.19\00:23:52.53 to find out his willing purpose. 00:23:52.56\00:23:54.80 So until he open that door, 00:23:54.83\00:23:56.73 God doesn't give you 00:23:56.77\00:23:58.10 the whole newspaper at the time. 00:23:58.13\00:24:00.34 He gives you one page as you need to know basis. 00:24:00.37\00:24:03.81 And during those journey there's a lot learnings, 00:24:03.84\00:24:07.41 maturity come along the way. 00:24:07.44\00:24:10.05 And so I've done some labor job for a while 00:24:10.08\00:24:12.01 until I was contacted 00:24:12.05\00:24:13.98 by Seventh-day Adventist representative 00:24:14.02\00:24:16.58 for a health food ministry in South Pacific Division, 00:24:16.62\00:24:21.16 Sanitarium Health Food and Well... 00:24:21.19\00:24:23.56 Sanitarium Health and Wellbeing Company. 00:24:23.59\00:24:25.59 And he invited me to go to a Cleveland mission, 00:24:25.63\00:24:28.56 that he, E.E Cleveland was doing in those days 00:24:28.60\00:24:31.57 back in Australia. 00:24:31.60\00:24:33.17 And as I sat 00:24:33.20\00:24:34.54 and listened to his message, I realized... 00:24:34.57\00:24:35.90 E.E Cleveland. 00:24:35.94\00:24:37.57 Oh my. Yeah, in a tent. 00:24:37.61\00:24:39.44 An amazing minister. In a tent. 00:24:39.47\00:24:42.14 Well, and of course that was just an amazing time 00:24:42.18\00:24:45.48 and I know... 00:24:45.51\00:24:46.85 So this was your first contact with not only Christianity 00:24:46.88\00:24:50.49 but with the Seventh-day Adventist. 00:24:50.52\00:24:52.19 Yeah, sure. 00:24:52.22\00:24:53.69 I've been going to church 00:24:53.72\00:24:55.46 from very really as a good feel good experience, 00:24:55.49\00:24:59.29 but it was more like a club rather than personal experience 00:24:59.33\00:25:03.23 until I had God spoke to me in a real way. 00:25:03.26\00:25:06.23 Well, I can't think of a better person 00:25:06.27\00:25:08.10 to introduce you to deeper truth 00:25:08.14\00:25:09.97 than E.E Cleveland. 00:25:10.01\00:25:11.34 Oh, just amazing. Just amazing. 00:25:11.37\00:25:13.98 And from that day I went to work for the church, 00:25:14.01\00:25:17.65 and 36 years later still working for the church. 00:25:17.68\00:25:20.15 So you made Jesus the Lord of your life. 00:25:20.18\00:25:22.15 Absolutely. 00:25:22.18\00:25:24.05 Fell in love with the message 00:25:24.09\00:25:25.52 that God has entrusted to the church. 00:25:25.55\00:25:27.42 Fell in love with Jesus. Okay. 00:25:27.46\00:25:29.06 Yeah, fell in love with the church, 00:25:29.09\00:25:30.99 and still love Jesus everyday in my life. 00:25:31.03\00:25:34.30 And so, the most amazing incredible things is that 00:25:34.33\00:25:39.13 within my responsibility in the church, 00:25:39.17\00:25:42.30 I have had high responsibilities 00:25:42.34\00:25:45.41 doing a reports 00:25:45.44\00:25:47.41 and I'm not capable of doing them with little schooling. 00:25:47.44\00:25:49.91 You've told us 00:25:49.94\00:25:51.28 that you haven't had the basic schooling 00:25:51.31\00:25:53.21 that most people just take for granted. 00:25:53.25\00:25:56.05 But always educated in heaven's atmosphere. 00:25:56.08\00:25:58.15 Yes. 00:25:58.19\00:25:59.52 The university of heaven and that will do me... 00:25:59.55\00:26:01.66 I've got a BA, certainly not a bachelor of arts, 00:26:01.69\00:26:04.99 but I've been born again. 00:26:05.03\00:26:06.36 Amen. I like that. 00:26:06.39\00:26:08.43 And that will do me. 00:26:08.46\00:26:10.03 And when I've been in management situations 00:26:10.07\00:26:12.80 and high responsibilities, 00:26:12.83\00:26:14.17 I've served a church in countries like New Zealand, 00:26:14.20\00:26:17.57 different parts of Australia, United Kingdom, Thailand, 00:26:17.61\00:26:21.48 served a church in terms of promoting our products 00:26:21.51\00:26:24.75 in South East Asia. 00:26:24.78\00:26:27.28 High responsibilities, but when I had to do reports, 00:26:27.32\00:26:29.82 I said, Jesus, here's the pen, 00:26:29.85\00:26:32.29 what do you want me to write and hand over to it. 00:26:32.32\00:26:35.76 And so he has been partnering with me through my journey 00:26:35.79\00:26:39.23 and he's still teaching me today. 00:26:39.26\00:26:41.03 What an incredible God, and if he can do this for me, 00:26:41.06\00:26:44.43 through an uneducated man 00:26:44.47\00:26:46.84 just imagine what he can do for you. 00:26:46.87\00:26:49.57 So you are working for the church 00:26:49.60\00:26:52.77 and I believe you retired from church work. 00:26:52.81\00:26:56.38 Just about 10 years ago, 00:26:56.41\00:26:58.85 really didn't retire, I refired. 00:26:58.88\00:27:01.38 I know you told me that early, you're refired. 00:27:01.42\00:27:04.05 I like that. Recharged, recharged. 00:27:04.09\00:27:07.79 Yeah, during the course of my later years of working 00:27:07.82\00:27:10.93 for the church, I was confronted by poverty, 00:27:10.96\00:27:15.06 in an area of the South Pacific 00:27:15.10\00:27:16.90 where I never expected it, Mollie. 00:27:16.93\00:27:20.87 People in, living on a garbage dump. 00:27:20.90\00:27:24.24 And this was in a country called Tonga. 00:27:24.27\00:27:27.31 It's a small little island in the South Pacific, 00:27:27.34\00:27:31.45 a Christian country. 00:27:31.48\00:27:33.35 And as I saw these people living on a garbage dump, 00:27:33.38\00:27:36.48 that confronted me. 00:27:36.52\00:27:37.85 I had seen pictures of people in poverty. 00:27:37.89\00:27:41.99 How long ago was this? 00:27:42.02\00:27:43.36 That was over 20 years ago. 00:27:43.39\00:27:44.99 So this was while you were still working in the church. 00:27:45.03\00:27:46.90 Sure, sure. 00:27:46.93\00:27:49.16 Saw pictures of people living in poverty 00:27:49.20\00:27:51.57 but with every newspaper you throw it out 00:27:51.60\00:27:53.70 and that's replaced with today's news. 00:27:53.74\00:27:56.91 I had seen images, but never seen it personally. 00:27:56.94\00:27:59.41 And I saw it... 00:27:59.44\00:28:00.78 So you personally went to that garbage dump 00:28:00.81\00:28:02.44 where people were living. 00:28:02.48\00:28:03.81 Yeah. 00:28:03.85\00:28:05.18 And so I went back to the garbage dump 00:28:05.21\00:28:07.68 later that afternoon. 00:28:07.72\00:28:09.35 And as I was on a main road and as I saw the people 00:28:09.38\00:28:13.09 living on the garbage dump children, 00:28:13.12\00:28:15.42 the thing that was amazed me 00:28:15.46\00:28:16.79 was they were fighting with picking up food 00:28:16.83\00:28:18.89 and eating it. 00:28:18.93\00:28:20.26 But pigs, Mollie, 00:28:20.30\00:28:22.66 were also fighting who could get the best grasp. 00:28:22.70\00:28:26.03 And I sat there and I said, 00:28:26.07\00:28:27.64 God what are you doing about this? 00:28:27.67\00:28:31.11 And he said, I'm doing something about it, Dennis, 00:28:31.14\00:28:34.34 that's why you're here. 00:28:34.38\00:28:35.71 Oh, he sent you there. 00:28:35.74\00:28:37.68 Absolutely, now my mission is becoming clear to me. 00:28:37.71\00:28:42.35 He said get out of the car, get out of the suit. 00:28:42.38\00:28:45.89 I want you to go on to the rubbish dump 00:28:45.92\00:28:47.56 and start feeding these people, because no one else will. 00:28:47.59\00:28:51.36 No one else cares for these people, 00:28:51.39\00:28:53.50 that's why you're here. 00:28:53.53\00:28:55.66 And now, sometimes 00:28:55.70\00:28:57.43 when God puts us to a situations 00:28:57.47\00:28:59.23 where we see people in need, Mollie, 00:28:59.27\00:29:01.37 the person we say is what are other people doing about that? 00:29:01.40\00:29:04.57 What are you doing about that? 00:29:04.61\00:29:07.68 God, when we finally recognize it, 00:29:07.71\00:29:09.94 God is doing something about it, 00:29:09.98\00:29:12.01 he sends you to do something. 00:29:12.05\00:29:14.05 And apple party and neither would do the trick, 00:29:14.08\00:29:16.75 neither the neighbors won't do the trick, 00:29:16.79\00:29:19.05 that's why you're there. 00:29:19.09\00:29:21.66 That's humble beginnings over 25 years ago 00:29:21.69\00:29:24.96 from just getting on to a dump, 00:29:24.99\00:29:27.16 spending a week on the dump with those people, 00:29:27.20\00:29:30.23 transferred my life, 00:29:30.27\00:29:31.60 I found Christ on the rubbish dump. 00:29:31.63\00:29:33.84 I found the real meaning Christianity 00:29:33.87\00:29:36.40 that sitting in the comfort of pew of a church pews 00:29:36.44\00:29:39.24 is not good enough. 00:29:39.27\00:29:40.88 He expected more from me than that. 00:29:40.91\00:29:44.61 And so was born a program so much 00:29:44.65\00:29:48.28 so wonderfully supported by our company, 00:29:48.32\00:29:50.92 the Sanitarium Health and Wellbeing Company, 00:29:50.95\00:29:52.89 they were fantastic. 00:29:52.92\00:29:54.52 And during the course of later years of my service 00:29:54.56\00:29:59.53 they were supporting what I did, 00:29:59.56\00:30:01.50 and then as I retired from the church work, 00:30:01.53\00:30:04.90 I took this on with my colleague 00:30:04.93\00:30:07.17 who is co-founder David Woolley 00:30:07.20\00:30:09.50 as a full time project for ministry. 00:30:09.54\00:30:12.54 Okay, and the name of the project 00:30:12.57\00:30:13.91 is Operation... 00:30:13.94\00:30:15.28 Operation Food for Life. Food for Life. 00:30:15.31\00:30:16.85 And I know you told me earlier, 00:30:16.88\00:30:18.95 you go to the areas of greatest need. 00:30:18.98\00:30:21.58 Sure and what underpins everything that we do is found 00:30:21.62\00:30:25.99 in the verse of Matthew 24:35, 36 00:30:26.02\00:30:30.59 feeding the hungry, cloth the naked, 00:30:30.63\00:30:33.19 these are the second hospital, 00:30:33.23\00:30:34.86 and we'll show you some slides of exactly what we're done. 00:30:34.90\00:30:37.57 We want to see those pictures, 00:30:37.60\00:30:39.27 but you've told me something 00:30:39.30\00:30:41.40 a little earlier talking about the people 00:30:41.44\00:30:44.14 that lived on that garbage dump. 00:30:44.17\00:30:47.78 Share that with the people about how... 00:30:47.81\00:30:50.08 What we would think that we should do 00:30:50.11\00:30:53.21 is take them off of that garbage dump 00:30:53.25\00:30:55.68 and take them to some other place to live, 00:30:55.72\00:30:58.59 but you said that's not the answer. 00:30:58.62\00:31:01.99 And I've tried that in two countries 00:31:02.02\00:31:04.96 where I've ministered, both have been unsuccessful 00:31:04.99\00:31:07.86 and I don't understand why 00:31:07.90\00:31:09.30 is so these people are second generation families... 00:31:09.33\00:31:12.80 So they were born there, that's all they know. 00:31:12.83\00:31:15.40 The word doesn't exist outside the confinements 00:31:15.44\00:31:17.67 of that garbage dump, Mollie. 00:31:17.71\00:31:19.47 Their social activity takes place on the dump. 00:31:19.51\00:31:22.31 All their friends are on the dump. 00:31:22.34\00:31:24.18 Currently there are 1700 families 00:31:24.21\00:31:26.35 living on the dump we're ministering to. 00:31:26.38\00:31:28.12 Seventeen hundred families? Families living on the dump. 00:31:28.15\00:31:31.65 Yeah, that's where abnormal is normal 00:31:31.69\00:31:35.12 if that's all you know. 00:31:35.16\00:31:36.49 Yeah. Yeah. 00:31:36.52\00:31:37.86 And so they're dependent on eating the food for survival 00:31:37.89\00:31:42.30 from the dump. 00:31:42.33\00:31:43.67 They're dependent on getting any empty cans, 00:31:43.70\00:31:46.37 they can walk 10 or 12 miles down to be recycled into town 00:31:46.40\00:31:51.07 to supplement their food income. 00:31:51.11\00:31:53.01 They're dependent on anybody's trash 00:31:53.04\00:31:56.95 to be their treasure 00:31:56.98\00:31:58.31 that they can get any funds from. 00:31:58.35\00:32:00.02 So when they move outside 00:32:00.05\00:32:01.68 of that comfort zone that they're in, 00:32:01.72\00:32:04.29 they're traumatized for it. 00:32:04.32\00:32:06.05 In every case where we've taken people 00:32:06.09\00:32:08.92 to the new facility, 00:32:08.96\00:32:10.69 got the kids arranged for school, 00:32:10.73\00:32:12.93 within 24 hours they've been back on the dump. 00:32:12.96\00:32:15.06 They go back to the dump.
