00:03:41.32\00:03:47.69 We lived in the mountains of beautiful Montana. 00:03:47.72\00:03:51.09 We were building our beautiful mountain home 00:03:51.13\00:03:54.53 and though I had wanted to be a missionary before, 00:03:54.56\00:04:00.14 now we were comfortable, 00:04:00.17\00:04:03.34 and we had four children my husband and I... 00:04:03.37\00:04:07.44 Emily was 20 years old, 00:04:09.94\00:04:11.51 Maria was 17 just Hannah was nine and Josiah was seven. 00:04:11.55\00:04:17.39 And I had a hard time dealing with the heat 00:04:17.42\00:04:20.66 in August in Montana. 00:04:20.69\00:04:22.62 I thought I was tired 00:04:22.66\00:04:25.73 and I thought our family was not a perfect family, 00:04:25.76\00:04:29.00 not perfect enough to go out abroad 00:04:29.03\00:04:31.87 to be a missionaries anymore. 00:04:31.90\00:04:33.47 All right, but you met someone at a fellowship lunch 00:04:33.50\00:04:36.91 and who changed your mind about that, 00:04:36.94\00:04:39.14 then you went to the Butler Creek 00:04:39.17\00:04:42.78 training camp to, 00:04:42.81\00:04:45.31 you had missionary training for 60 days, 00:04:45.35\00:04:47.75 thinking you were going to go to India, 00:04:47.78\00:04:51.05 but someone came up to you and said, what? 00:04:51.09\00:04:55.36 Said, I feel impressed. 00:04:55.39\00:04:57.19 One of the instructors at the training said, 00:04:57.23\00:04:59.63 "I feel impressed to ask you to go to the Thai-Burma border 00:04:59.66\00:05:02.63 at the school that's called Beletlia school 00:05:02.66\00:05:06.67 in Karen state of Burma. 00:05:06.70\00:05:09.24 And we said we're going to India. 00:05:09.27\00:05:12.47 He said would you please pray about it 00:05:12.51\00:05:14.18 because I feel impressed. 00:05:14.21\00:05:15.91 And so my husband and I went down on our knees 00:05:15.94\00:05:18.41 for the rest of that week, 00:05:18.45\00:05:20.38 and we prayed for God to show us. 00:05:20.42\00:05:24.45 And indeed he did show. He did show us clearly. 00:05:24.49\00:05:27.79 All right, so you ended up going, 00:05:27.82\00:05:30.83 it is the Thai-Burma border and the state is called Karen, 00:05:30.86\00:05:36.26 it's spelled like we would say Karen, 00:05:36.30\00:05:39.67 but these people, there's been a civil war there 00:05:39.70\00:05:43.47 and tell us little bit about the people there? 00:05:43.51\00:05:46.94 The Karen people have suffered persecution, 00:05:46.98\00:05:51.71 the genocide for the last 65 years. 00:05:51.75\00:05:54.78 It's been horrendous for them, 00:05:54.82\00:05:56.15 they've been living like IDPs "Internally Displaced People." 00:05:56.18\00:06:03.06 There is even at here in the Phoenix 00:06:03.09\00:06:06.73 there is many, many immigrants of the Karen. 00:06:06.76\00:06:09.56 There is many refugee camps in Thailand along the border 00:06:09.60\00:06:13.94 that close to us where we live in Thailand, 00:06:13.97\00:06:17.41 there is a large one with at least 140,000 people. 00:06:17.44\00:06:21.61 And when we first came it was a very bad situation, 00:06:21.64\00:06:28.18 today it has improved, there is a peace agreement 00:06:28.22\00:06:31.95 and there is a new government in place in Burma. 00:06:31.99\00:06:34.26 Okay. 00:06:34.29\00:06:35.62 You and your family went thinking 00:06:35.66\00:06:37.53 you would stay for a year, 00:06:37.56\00:06:39.29 it would be good for your children, 00:06:39.33\00:06:41.76 but how many years has it been now? 00:06:41.80\00:06:43.40 Eight years. 00:06:43.43\00:06:44.77 Eight years that you've been there. 00:06:44.80\00:06:46.63 And tell us about the ministry 00:06:46.67\00:06:49.80 that you've had you've started orphanage, 00:06:49.84\00:06:52.64 you've got schools, 00:06:52.67\00:06:54.08 tell us a little about what you're doing? 00:06:54.11\00:06:56.91 Well, after we've been there a short time, 00:06:56.95\00:07:00.58 the school we were involved with on the Burma side 00:07:00.62\00:07:03.79 in Karen state. 00:07:03.82\00:07:06.25 One of our daughters were involved with it, 00:07:06.29\00:07:08.06 actually two of them the older girls. 00:07:08.09\00:07:10.43 And one day when my daughter was over there, 00:07:10.46\00:07:14.06 she called us, 00:07:14.10\00:07:15.43 there was cell phone reception over there, and she said, 00:07:15.46\00:07:17.67 "Mom, the Burmese are coming to attack," 00:07:17.70\00:07:20.14 and so the case that people were freaking out, 00:07:20.17\00:07:25.47 hysteric because they know what happens 00:07:25.51\00:07:27.71 when the Burmese would attack, and so we started to evacuate, 00:07:27.74\00:07:33.55 bring the children the younger ones first 00:07:33.58\00:07:36.32 across the river in a canoe, 00:07:36.35\00:07:38.25 and took them to our small 600 square foot house. 00:07:38.29\00:07:43.16 And we had 120, 00:07:43.19\00:07:47.70 we had a school of 120s boarding students 00:07:47.73\00:07:50.53 from the other side in our hands, 00:07:50.57\00:07:52.80 and after we brought them to the Thai side, 00:07:52.83\00:07:57.04 the Burmese did come and burn down the school. 00:07:57.07\00:08:00.11 So the Burmese, this was part of the genocide 00:08:00.14\00:08:03.28 that they were trying to get rid of all the Karen people. 00:08:03.31\00:08:05.75 Yes. 00:08:05.78\00:08:07.12 So, now you find yourself with a 120 children 00:08:07.15\00:08:11.82 that you have to completely support 00:08:11.85\00:08:16.02 and this was a faith ministry to say the least. 00:08:16.06\00:08:21.20 Yes. 00:08:21.23\00:08:22.56 Tell us how God provided for you? 00:08:22.60\00:08:25.93 Well, in the beginning we used my husband's saved retirement, 00:08:25.97\00:08:32.87 and once that were gone we would pray to God, 00:08:32.91\00:08:37.55 "God, please" we were actually pretty desperate, 00:08:37.58\00:08:39.48 even though we have a faith based ministry 00:08:39.51\00:08:41.85 and we believed in that, we actually, 00:08:41.88\00:08:43.65 the beginning did not believe at all in asking for money. 00:08:43.69\00:08:46.65 And so we ask God please provide 00:08:46.69\00:08:50.49 because we don't have anything more. 00:08:50.53\00:08:52.69 And so one day ADRA called us and said, 00:08:52.73\00:08:55.63 could we bring by 00:08:55.66\00:08:57.47 an 80 year old Japanese gentleman, 00:08:57.50\00:08:59.73 and we said sure. 00:08:59.77\00:09:01.10 And so they came to visit an hour later, 00:09:01.14\00:09:03.61 and as this man steps out of his car together 00:09:03.64\00:09:07.38 with the ADRA people, 00:09:07.41\00:09:09.08 I felt impressed to lower myself before him 00:09:09.11\00:09:12.71 and he smiled so delighted at me, 00:09:12.75\00:09:16.79 and I was wondering what did I just do, 00:09:16.82\00:09:18.69 why did I do this, later I asked him, 00:09:18.72\00:09:20.46 how do you Japanese greet each other, 00:09:20.49\00:09:22.92 because that's not the way the Karen 00:09:22.96\00:09:24.29 or the Thai greet each other. 00:09:24.33\00:09:26.43 And he said we do just what you just do to me, 00:09:26.46\00:09:29.00 and I knew God had done that. 00:09:29.03\00:09:30.37 Amen. 00:09:30.40\00:09:31.73 Actually felt like we were on holy ground. 00:09:31.77\00:09:33.64 God was there, this was a Buddhist man, 00:09:33.67\00:09:36.54 but within a short time we showed him around, 00:09:36.57\00:09:39.87 I just told him I'm embarrassed, 00:09:39.91\00:09:41.38 because we had to tarp over, burn tarp over our kitchen, 00:09:41.41\00:09:44.85 we had one toilet for all these people 00:09:44.88\00:09:47.15 in out house, we had... 00:09:47.18\00:09:49.95 it was very, very rough. 00:09:49.98\00:09:51.65 And so he said, "Oh, don't be embarrass, 00:09:51.69\00:09:53.32 it's very beautiful." 00:09:53.36\00:09:55.16 And he said what's your budget 00:09:55.19\00:09:57.63 and I said we don't have a budget. 00:09:57.66\00:09:59.49 We just look for ways, yes. 00:09:59.53\00:10:02.73 And he said well make a budget 00:10:02.76\00:10:04.43 because we're going to make a decision. 00:10:04.47\00:10:06.50 And so we made up a budget 00:10:06.53\00:10:07.87 for what we thought our needs were for the 120 children 00:10:07.90\00:10:10.91 we also did a medical ministry and we share that with him 00:10:10.94\00:10:14.11 and they came back to us 00:10:14.14\00:10:15.48 and they said, we're covering it all. 00:10:15.51\00:10:17.11 Oh, praise the Lord. 00:10:17.15\00:10:18.48 And we were so excited for what God was doing. 00:10:18.51\00:10:21.18 So God provided for a 120 but something happened 00:10:21.22\00:10:24.29 and that 120 increased in a hurry, 00:10:24.32\00:10:26.92 tell us about that? 00:10:26.96\00:10:28.29 Yes. 00:10:28.32\00:10:29.66 My husband and I went away for a week, 00:10:29.69\00:10:33.26 and when we came back 00:10:33.29\00:10:34.63 to what now was called Sunshine Orchid. 00:10:34.66\00:10:36.73 There was a children looking at us from everywhere, 00:10:41.30\00:10:43.37 new children. 00:10:43.41\00:10:44.74 Children that we did not recognize, 00:10:44.77\00:10:46.11 ragged children, barefoot children, 00:10:46.14\00:10:50.48 and it was about 160 of them. 00:10:50.51\00:10:52.91 So you went from 120. Yes. 00:10:52.95\00:10:55.92 To 280 just in that week's time. 00:10:55.95\00:10:58.89 Yes. 00:10:58.92\00:11:00.26 So it was still a faith based ministry, wasn't it? 00:11:00.29\00:11:02.66 Very much. Yes, it was. Yeah. 00:11:02.69\00:11:04.03 Well, let me ask you, you have how many schools now? 00:11:04.06\00:11:07.80 We are no longer with our original school 00:11:07.83\00:11:10.57 the Sunshine Orchard school, 00:11:10.60\00:11:12.60 we are starting to raise up another school 00:11:12.63\00:11:15.27 similar to this one, because every vision, 00:11:15.30\00:11:17.37 every dream burden we had that God placed in our hearts 00:11:17.41\00:11:20.61 for Sunshine Orchard has been fulfilled. 00:11:20.64\00:11:23.58 And it's now a 10th grade school, 00:11:23.61\00:11:25.68 it has vocational training, it has Bible health training, 00:11:25.71\00:11:29.22 one year training, it's a thriving school 00:11:29.25\00:11:33.86 and other missionaries have come to help 00:11:33.89\00:11:36.83 and we realized we were no longer needed 00:11:36.86\00:11:39.66 and God gave us another school on the Burma side. 00:11:39.69\00:11:43.30 And so we have another school of 130 boarding students. 00:11:43.33\00:11:47.54 Now this is a rough little needy school like ours 00:11:47.57\00:11:51.97 was when we first were involved with it. 00:11:52.01\00:11:53.91 You like the challenge obviously. 00:11:53.94\00:11:55.84 Yes, it's perfect with face cut. 00:11:55.88\00:11:57.21 But, now you also are supporting teachers 00:11:57.25\00:12:00.92 from refugee schools, is this correct? 00:12:00.95\00:12:02.38 Yes. 00:12:02.42\00:12:03.75 The refugee camp schools, 00:12:03.79\00:12:05.12 how many teachers are you trying to support? 00:12:05.15\00:12:06.76 We're trying to support 60 teachers in all. 00:12:06.79\00:12:08.86 Sixty teachers. Yes. 00:12:08.89\00:12:11.16 And then how many orphans did you have on top of that? 00:12:11.19\00:12:13.86 We only have about 20 orphans in our home. 00:12:13.90\00:12:16.87 Oh, you had 20 orphans in your little home. 00:12:16.90\00:12:18.70 Yes. 00:12:18.73\00:12:20.07 And then you've got how many students 00:12:20.10\00:12:22.10 in these schools, 00:12:22.14\00:12:23.47 if you count in the refugee schools and together... 00:12:23.51\00:12:25.41 There's about over 1000 students 00:12:25.44\00:12:27.81 in the refugee camp schools and in ours 130. 00:12:27.84\00:12:32.45 And so, yes, the teachers in the refugee camp 00:12:32.48\00:12:38.22 has not been paid, 00:12:38.25\00:12:40.66 only the minimum that will help them to survive 00:12:40.69\00:12:45.76 through the last few years 00:12:45.79\00:12:47.13 and we were asked would you please help us, 00:12:47.16\00:12:50.17 by that person in charge of the refugee camp 00:12:50.20\00:12:52.03 the Adventist work in the refugee camp, 00:12:52.07\00:12:54.60 we gulped and realized, we help one of the schools 00:12:54.64\00:12:58.44 for the last one and half years, 00:12:58.47\00:13:00.61 and we thought 00:13:00.64\00:13:01.98 you really should help the others too 00:13:02.01\00:13:03.61 and somebody needs to step out in faith to do that. 00:13:03.65\00:13:05.65 Amen. 00:13:05.68\00:13:07.02 So, Lena, essentially you and your family 00:13:07.05\00:13:11.85 left a very comfortable lifestyle 00:13:11.89\00:13:17.26 thinking you were going for a year, 00:13:17.29\00:13:18.63 you're building your dream home in the mountains, 00:13:18.66\00:13:20.40 you're thinking you're going over for a year and you know, 00:13:20.43\00:13:23.16 I have to say that there is so many parents 00:13:23.20\00:13:25.03 who've found that if they want to make sure 00:13:25.07\00:13:28.00 that their children are firmly anchored in the faith, 00:13:28.04\00:13:30.61 they will take them on a missionary trip, 00:13:30.64\00:13:32.94 because it always it's very effective when children, 00:13:32.97\00:13:36.41 it's a wake up call 00:13:36.44\00:13:37.78 and it seems that children lose that self centered focus 00:13:37.81\00:13:42.88 and become more interested in what the Lord's work is. 00:13:42.92\00:13:45.52 Amen. 00:13:45.55\00:13:46.89 So you went there 00:13:46.92\00:13:48.26 and now you find yourself sleeping on the ground, 00:13:48.29\00:13:51.69 eating rice and curry for every meal. 00:13:51.73\00:13:55.70 In the middle of civil war, 00:13:55.73\00:13:57.07 you told me an interesting story 00:13:57.10\00:13:58.53 before we sat here about your son 00:13:58.57\00:14:00.77 when he was quite young and the bullets are whizzing by 00:14:00.80\00:14:04.94 and you asked him to count the bullets 00:14:04.97\00:14:09.01 to try to get his mind on just something else, 00:14:09.04\00:14:11.91 tell us about that? 00:14:11.95\00:14:13.28 When we first got there, 00:14:13.31\00:14:14.65 everyone told us including church 00:14:14.68\00:14:17.75 the natives everyone, 00:14:17.79\00:14:19.29 you'll be killed, you'll be robbed 00:14:19.32\00:14:21.12 or you'll be kidnapped living here. 00:14:21.16\00:14:23.46 And we knew God had lead us there with a certainty, 00:14:23.49\00:14:26.76 there was no doubt about it, and so we stayed 00:14:26.80\00:14:31.30 but I was afraid, my husband was not afraid 00:14:31.33\00:14:33.60 but at night I would lay awaken, 00:14:33.64\00:14:35.07 I would what's that, what's that, that's a gunshot. 00:14:35.10\00:14:38.37 And we left for a short time again at that time 00:14:38.41\00:14:42.51 and I didn't want to go back down to the border 00:14:42.54\00:14:45.21 I said, Paul, my husband I said, 00:14:45.25\00:14:47.42 I don't want to go back, I'm just tired of being afraid. 00:14:47.45\00:14:50.79 I said to God, I'm not going back, 00:14:50.82\00:14:53.36 I was praying for God to deliver me 00:14:53.39\00:14:55.49 from having to go back down there. 00:14:55.52\00:14:57.69 And I opened my Bible and it doesn't happen, 00:14:57.73\00:15:02.36 I don't know if it ever happened, 00:15:02.40\00:15:03.73 but since that time or before that 00:15:03.77\00:15:05.83 but it was highlighted 00:15:05.87\00:15:07.20 and it was Acts 18:21, 00:15:07.24\00:15:14.11 it said, go back, no one will set upon you to hurt you 00:15:14.14\00:15:18.08 because I have many people in that city 00:15:18.11\00:15:20.32 or in that area I took it as, 00:15:20.35\00:15:22.32 and so I went back with complete peace, 00:15:22.35\00:15:24.12 I was never afraid again. 00:15:24.15\00:15:26.09 And I knew God had a work for us to do, 00:15:26.12\00:15:28.69 and so anyway there we are and this, 00:15:28.72\00:15:32.39 they're shooting, they're shelling, 00:15:32.43\00:15:34.43 the motors are starting to vibrate our house, 00:15:34.46\00:15:37.27 it's very close to the border. 00:15:37.30\00:15:39.57 And we had extremely sick child, 00:15:39.60\00:15:43.04 my youngest daughter, 00:15:43.07\00:15:45.54 and we couldn't leave the house, 00:15:45.57\00:15:46.91 my husband would leave them in the morning 00:15:46.94\00:15:48.78 to go and take people to the hospital, 00:15:48.81\00:15:50.81 but we couldn't leave so my son he was seven he said, 00:15:50.85\00:15:54.82 mom do we have to be here I'm afraid 00:15:54.85\00:15:57.52 and I said Josiah, let's make a game out of it, 00:15:57.55\00:16:01.22 count the bullets. 00:16:01.26\00:16:02.62 Count the bullets. Surely. 00:20:20.18\00:20:21.52 It's found in Desire of Ages, it says, 00:20:21.55\00:20:23.85 "He is ready to supply every soul 00:20:23.89\00:20:25.95 according to their capacity to receive." 00:20:25.99\00:20:28.56 And this thing just blew my mind. 00:20:28.59\00:20:30.19 We have a capacity to receive, 00:20:30.23\00:20:32.13 and then the more I read about it 00:20:32.16\00:20:34.10 and I want to know what is this capacity 00:20:34.13\00:20:35.70 and it says, in Desire of Ages 300, 00:20:35.73\00:20:38.97 "From the soul that feels its need nothing is withheld." 00:20:39.00\00:20:43.47 Amen. 00:20:43.51\00:20:44.84 And our capacity is our need, is our desperation 00:20:44.87\00:20:49.81 so going back to the experience of the youth 00:20:49.84\00:20:52.08 in the Philippines, 00:20:52.11\00:20:53.45 we have seen that the promise is so sure 00:20:53.48\00:20:56.48 that revival comes in answer to prayer, 00:20:56.52\00:20:59.25 and we have seen youth conferences 00:20:59.29\00:21:01.96 that are being led 00:21:01.99\00:21:03.79 and sustained by prayer like 2014 00:21:03.83\00:21:06.86 when we had this youth conference, 00:21:06.90\00:21:09.46 every morning at 5 am around like 50 00:21:09.50\00:21:12.80 or less than that numbers of young people 00:21:12.83\00:21:15.14 who comes and gather together and pray 00:21:15.17\00:21:17.34 and the result was powerful. 00:21:17.37\00:21:19.27 The next year, the young people 00:21:19.31\00:21:21.28 who comes every 5 am increased to 200. 00:21:21.31\00:21:24.08 Oh, how wonderful. 00:21:24.11\00:21:25.45 And it's more powerful and we never even imagine that, 00:21:25.48\00:21:28.48 that could... 00:21:28.52\00:21:30.29 All the while we thought that, 00:21:30.32\00:21:31.65 that was the peak of the experience 00:21:31.69\00:21:33.12 and then just a few months ago 00:21:33.15\00:21:34.49 when Melody was there when she shared her testimony 00:21:34.52\00:21:37.63 and Melody was so intrigue, 00:21:37.66\00:21:38.99 Gem I want to see what that experience 00:21:39.03\00:21:43.00 that you're talking about 00:21:43.03\00:21:44.43 and when she was there the young people 00:21:44.47\00:21:46.70 who came every morning were more than 400. 00:21:46.74\00:21:49.10 Praise God. 00:21:49.14\00:21:50.47 It was amazing for me actually to visit the Philippines 00:21:50.51\00:21:54.21 because I've heard all these amazing testimonies 00:21:54.24\00:21:56.08 about how God is working in the hearts of young people 00:21:56.11\00:21:58.48 and bringing them personal revive 00:21:58.51\00:22:00.48 and they're excited for mission 00:22:00.52\00:22:01.88 and all these different things happening, 00:22:01.92\00:22:03.25 and so I'm like, I want to go and see, 00:22:03.28\00:22:05.05 is this really like they're saying is good as they say, 00:22:05.09\00:22:08.06 and I was just blown away, God is just doing 00:22:08.09\00:22:10.46 and He's working all around the world 00:22:10.49\00:22:12.13 with His young people just bringing them to life 00:22:12.16\00:22:15.26 and giving them a mission, 00:22:15.30\00:22:16.83 but it was really special to be able 00:22:16.87\00:22:18.53 to be part of the Philippines Youth for Christ event 00:22:18.57\00:22:21.30 and see what God was doing 00:22:21.34\00:22:22.67 and praying with those 400 young people, 00:22:22.70\00:22:24.31 I was just like, I felt like, 00:22:24.34\00:22:25.97 like Queen Sheba talking the Solomon like... 00:22:26.01\00:22:28.14 Yes. 00:22:28.18\00:22:29.51 You didn't tell me how, you know, 00:22:29.54\00:22:31.11 of what God is doing and so, there're so many testimonies. 00:22:31.15\00:22:35.18 Yeah, and there is one young person 00:22:35.22\00:22:37.39 who came to the Philippine Youth for Christ last year 00:22:37.42\00:22:40.59 and he has this burden now to pray for his church 00:22:40.62\00:22:43.59 because back in the southern part of the Philippines 00:22:43.63\00:22:45.46 there is a lot of churches, but the problem was, 00:22:45.49\00:22:48.16 there is a lot of backsliders... 00:22:48.20\00:22:50.37 A lot of so, what? 00:22:50.40\00:22:51.73 Backsliders, backslidden members, 00:22:51.77\00:22:54.14 and so he had his burden, 00:22:54.17\00:22:56.10 his family is mostly backslidden, 00:22:56.14\00:22:58.77 so when he went back to his hometown, 00:22:58.81\00:23:02.11 he began praying and he said, "No, this is not enough, 00:23:02.14\00:23:05.21 I'll bring a friend with me to start praying, 00:23:05.25\00:23:07.52 and his friend invited to other friends 00:23:07.55\00:23:10.05 and they did not just pray once a day, 00:23:10.09\00:23:12.25 but they prayed seven times a day. 00:23:12.29\00:23:14.82 Together? Together. 00:23:14.86\00:23:16.19 Wow. That's impressive. 00:23:16.22\00:23:17.89 The result was two weeks later 00:23:17.93\00:23:19.69 more than 30 backslidden members 00:23:19.73\00:23:23.63 came back to church. 00:23:23.67\00:23:25.00 Glory to God. Including his family members. 00:23:25.03\00:23:28.14 Glory to God, so that show... 00:23:28.17\00:23:30.81 really that gave me just the goose bumps, 00:23:30.84\00:23:33.71 because it shows the power of prayer, 00:23:33.74\00:23:35.84 it shows the power of intercessory prayer. 00:23:35.88\00:23:38.28 You know, when the Lord said in Isaiah 59, 00:23:38.31\00:23:41.02 is it 16 where he said 00:23:41.05\00:23:42.82 that the Lord looked and wondered 00:23:42.85\00:23:45.89 to why there was no intercessory, 00:23:45.92\00:23:47.86 and I think He's wondering 00:23:47.89\00:23:49.22 why people don't care enough to pray 00:23:49.26\00:23:51.19 or they don't believe 00:23:51.23\00:23:52.56 that He's got the power to deliver, 00:23:52.59\00:23:54.93 so it's amazing what God does in answer to prayer. 00:23:54.96\00:23:58.43 Yes. Amen. 00:23:58.47\00:24:00.64 Our capacity to receive is not that much 00:24:00.67\00:24:03.57 because we don't need Him that much, 00:24:03.61\00:24:06.47 but when we are so desperate of Him, 00:24:06.51\00:24:09.68 He just pours His spirit, He pours the answer so much. 00:24:09.71\00:24:12.91 So what you're, Gem, 00:24:12.95\00:24:14.28 is we don't recognize how much we need it. 00:24:14.32\00:24:16.92 Yeah. Yeah. 00:24:16.95\00:24:18.29 And we did put God in a box often 00:24:18.32\00:24:20.19 when we pray our little bitty self centered prayers, 00:24:20.22\00:24:22.96 asking Him to bless our plans 00:24:22.99\00:24:25.49 rather than asking Him what are His plans. 00:24:25.53\00:24:28.53 So now you've also got some amazing testimonies 00:24:28.56\00:24:31.63 about some pastors 00:24:31.67\00:24:33.50 who have been from other denominations 00:24:33.54\00:24:36.10 who have been baptized now 00:24:36.14\00:24:38.84 and serving as Seventh-day Adventist pastors. 00:24:38.87\00:24:41.24 Yes, this is kind of an ongoing story, you know, 00:24:41.28\00:24:44.31 over the last five years the revival and reformation 00:24:44.35\00:24:47.85 branch of the ministerial association to GC 00:24:47.88\00:24:50.32 has just been promoting prayer and Bible study 00:24:50.35\00:24:52.52 because we know that, that's the key 00:24:52.55\00:24:53.96 to get people revived 00:24:54.46\00:24:55.79 and once we're revived personally, 00:24:55.82\00:24:57.89 we're gonna want to share with others, 00:24:57.93\00:24:59.53 and so part of that initiative we have the 777, 00:24:59.56\00:25:03.80 you know, praying for the Holy Spirit... 00:25:03.83\00:25:05.70 Now, let's there, 00:25:05.73\00:25:07.07 we're talking to a lot of our audience 00:25:07.10\00:25:09.27 may be Adventist, 00:25:09.30\00:25:11.54 but the majority are probably not, 00:25:11.57\00:25:13.71 so explain what the 777 is? 00:25:13.74\00:25:15.68 So the 777 is basically 7 am and 7 pm 00:25:15.71\00:25:19.85 we're praying for the outpouring 00:25:19.88\00:25:21.22 of the Holy Spirit seven days a week. 00:25:21.25\00:25:22.78 That's amazing. Yeah, it's just pleading. 00:25:22.82\00:25:25.12 You know, God has promised in the last days Joel 2 00:25:25.15\00:25:28.22 and other places throughout scripture 00:25:28.26\00:25:29.92 that He's gonna pour out His Spirit, 00:25:29.96\00:25:31.69 and that's what we're really seeking for, 00:25:31.73\00:25:33.16 we know that, that is our greatest need. 00:25:33.19\00:25:35.20 Amen. 00:25:35.23\00:25:36.56 And you know, how I pray that, Melody, I always pray, 00:25:36.60\00:25:39.30 Lord, pour out Your Spirit 00:25:39.33\00:25:41.04 on all who call up on Your name. 00:25:41.07\00:25:43.30 Lead us into greater truth because there are many 00:25:43.34\00:25:47.14 who are calling on the name of the Lord 00:25:47.18\00:25:49.11 who really don't know about Jesus Christ, 00:25:49.14\00:25:51.71 but we're seeing how God is giving people visions, dreams 00:25:51.75\00:25:55.88 and we're seeing people convert 00:25:55.92\00:25:57.75 from some of the other world religions. 00:25:57.79\00:25:59.35 Amen. Yes. 00:25:59.39\00:26:00.72 And there is people of other faiths 00:26:00.76\00:26:02.09 and we know that this is so exciting because... 00:26:02.12\00:26:05.13 so this group started in Kenya, 00:26:05.16\00:26:06.73 they were actually doing 777 00:26:06.76\00:26:10.23 and then they were also part of the 10 days of prayer event 00:26:10.27\00:26:13.17 which is something else we promote with the GC. 00:26:13.20\00:26:16.04 Every January 00:26:16.07\00:26:17.84 churches will host 10 days of prayer in the churches, 00:26:17.87\00:26:20.78 also pleading for the Holy Spirit 00:26:20.81\00:26:22.31 and just for greater unity in our churches 00:26:22.34\00:26:24.31 and things like this, so this group was praying, 00:26:24.35\00:26:26.65 it was small group and then our last year 00:26:26.68\00:26:29.28 we actually had an initiative of 100 days of prayer 00:26:29.32\00:26:32.05 was leading up just some big meetings 00:26:32.09\00:26:33.56 that we had with the world church 00:26:33.59\00:26:35.26 and just praying that God will lead his leaders, 00:26:35.29\00:26:37.69 hold up their arms, 00:26:37.73\00:26:39.26 and so this group was taking part of that, 00:26:39.29\00:26:41.26 and over the 100 days the group grew, 00:26:41.30\00:26:43.50 it was initially like 50 or 100 00:26:43.53\00:26:45.87 and then they had 400 people that it have room problems, 00:26:45.90\00:26:48.94 so they had to move to a larger facility, 00:26:48.97\00:26:50.67 God was blessing, it was powerful. 00:26:50.71\00:26:52.71 In this group we have Adventists, 00:26:52.74\00:26:54.18 we have people from other denominations 00:26:54.21\00:26:55.98 and faiths attending, 00:26:56.01\00:26:57.75 and there was a group of pastors 00:26:57.78\00:26:59.98 from other denominations that were part of this group, 00:27:00.02\00:27:02.58 and they asked the coordinators, 00:27:02.62\00:27:03.95 they said, "You know, this is amazing. 00:27:03.99\00:27:05.95 Can you, could you study with us and share with us 00:27:05.99\00:27:08.52 what Seventh-day Adventist is all about? 00:27:08.56\00:27:11.36 And so they did like a three day study session 00:27:11.39\00:27:14.13 and there were like 30 pastors that were involved in this. 00:27:14.16\00:27:17.57 And at the end of that time, 00:27:17.60\00:27:19.00 16 of them actually made the decision 00:27:19.03\00:27:20.77 to become baptized... 00:27:20.80\00:27:22.14 Praise God. 00:27:22.17\00:27:23.67 As Seventh-day Adventist and now they are in the process 00:27:23.71\00:27:25.74 of transitioning to be Seventh-day Adventist pastors 00:27:25.77\00:27:29.08 many of them, and some of them are actually, 00:27:29.11\00:27:30.68 some of their congregations have actually moved with them, 00:27:30.71\00:27:32.71 they actually became 00:27:32.75\00:27:34.08 Seventh-day Adventist congregations 00:27:34.12\00:27:35.45 but the story is ongoing. 00:27:35.48\00:27:37.09 This happen, started happening, you know, 00:27:37.12\00:27:39.15 about a year ago now, and now a year later, 00:27:39.19\00:27:41.96 we've had another 16 to 17 that have been baptized 00:27:41.99\00:27:45.63 so it's over 30, 30 some pastors 00:27:45.66\00:27:48.40 that have been baptized. 00:27:48.43\00:27:49.76 It's just amazing the revival 00:27:49.80\00:27:52.30 they're experiencing there in the church. 00:27:52.33\00:27:54.80 And you know this shows 00:27:54.84\00:27:56.40 that when we pray God brings down barriers. 00:27:56.44\00:27:59.81 Yes. 00:27:59.84\00:28:01.18 You know, He helps us lose our prejudice 00:28:01.21\00:28:05.61 and someone had said, 00:28:05.65\00:28:07.18 I think I don't know who to credit this to 00:28:07.22\00:28:08.98 but I heard it just once but its stuck in my mind, 00:28:09.02\00:28:12.09 someone had said that preconceived ideas 00:28:12.12\00:28:15.86 effectively insulate the mind against truth, but I think, 00:28:15.89\00:28:21.16 isn't that a wonderful statement 00:28:21.20\00:28:22.63 and how true, but I think that as you unite in prayer, 00:28:22.66\00:28:27.60 in the presence of the Lord, 00:28:27.64\00:28:29.04 God brings down those preconceived idea, 00:28:29.07\00:28:32.01 the barriers, the prejudices 00:28:32.04\00:28:34.11 and that's why you're seeing such an amazing response. 00:28:34.14\00:28:38.65 Well, I know that both of you... 00:28:38.68\00:28:40.15 How did you get started, Gem, in the prayer ministry? 00:28:40.18\00:28:43.35 Oh, that is a whole sermon. 00:28:43.39\00:28:46.92 Well, then give me a one minute reader's digest version. 00:28:46.96\00:28:52.26 My prayer life before was like five minutes a day total 00:28:52.29\00:28:58.43 for the whole day, and I was in a very difficult situation 00:28:58.47\00:29:02.70 during one particular time 00:29:02.74\00:29:06.21 and somehow I was made to go to join a prayer session 00:29:06.24\00:29:11.21 in a prayer room, 00:29:11.25\00:29:12.85 and then right there in that prayer room, 00:29:12.88\00:29:15.68 I refused to be there 00:29:15.72\00:29:17.95 but I know it was the Lord's plan 00:29:17.99\00:29:20.09 to bring me there. 00:29:20.12\00:29:21.46 The moment I got in that prayer room, 00:29:21.49\00:29:23.32 I went on my knees, I really was not in the mood to pray 00:29:23.36\00:29:27.66 but the moment I began praying the Lord 00:29:27.70\00:29:29.60 began to break my heart. 00:29:29.63\00:29:31.33 And I have experienced something 00:29:31.37\00:29:33.17 that I have not experienced before, 00:29:33.20\00:29:34.54 I experienced healing... 00:29:34.57\00:29:35.90 Amen. 00:29:35.94\00:29:37.27 From the hatred, from all the disappointment, 00:29:37.31\00:29:40.21 all the negativity that I feel. 00:29:40.24\00:29:42.21 And then one thing that came to my mind 00:29:42.24\00:29:44.21 is that every Seventh-day Adventist Christian 00:29:44.25\00:29:47.42 or every person needs to experience this. 00:29:47.45\00:29:50.05 And one thing that stuck to my head as well, 00:29:50.09\00:29:52.79 this is the reason why that the Lord is not coming 00:29:52.82\00:29:56.99 because we have this barrier that we have put in between us 00:29:57.03\00:30:01.56 and this needs to be broken, 00:30:01.60\00:30:03.06 this could only be broken by humbling ourselves 00:30:03.10\00:30:06.74 before the Lord. 00:30:06.77\00:30:08.10 And there's something that's so powerful, 00:30:08.14\00:30:09.97 even though you are praying by yourself, 00:30:10.01\00:30:11.54 you were in an atmosphere of united prayer 00:30:11.57\00:30:13.88 and the presence of the Lord was already there, 00:30:13.91\00:30:16.44 so when you got on your knees that day, 00:30:16.48\00:30:18.75 God was able to reach your heart in a rapid way 00:30:18.78\00:30:22.18 so there really is something powerful 00:30:22.22\00:30:24.69 about having that holy atmosphere. 00:30:24.72\00:30:26.96 I know that... 00:30:26.99\00:30:28.32 You see this happening with so many people, 00:30:28.36\00:30:29.82 it's just phenomenal... 00:30:29.86\00:30:31.19 And I know that you, Melody, I've heard stories 00:30:31.23\00:30:34.06 of how you will go to the General Conference 00:30:34.10\00:30:36.60 before the annual meetings and go through the rooms 00:30:36.63\00:30:38.87 and pray over every seat and pray, and I believe that, 00:30:38.90\00:30:42.20 that is your breaking through something, 00:30:42.24\00:30:46.47 you're breaking the powers of darkness around, 00:30:46.51\00:30:49.44 so that God can really get in, that's exciting. 00:30:49.48\00:30:52.01 You know, virtual 00:30:52.05\00:30:53.38 we've received a measure of the Holy Spirit 00:30:53.42\00:30:54.82 but we're to continually ask for more. 00:30:54.85\00:30:56.72 Oh, absolutely. And so that is my burden. 00:30:56.75\00:30:58.85 God is working with the church 00:30:58.89\00:31:00.69 but we want to see Him bring even greater blessings. 00:31:00.72\00:31:02.76 Amen. 00:31:02.79\00:31:04.13 And we can only be filled with the Holy Spirit 00:31:04.16\00:31:05.56 to the degree we're emptied of self. 00:31:05.59\00:31:07.80 And isn't it amazing how self can rear 00:31:07.83\00:31:09.96 its ugly little head. 00:31:10.00\00:31:12.33 We can quench the spirit like that, 00:31:12.37\00:31:15.14 I shouldn't laugh about it but it is funny 00:31:15.17\00:31:16.94 cause' we all experience it. 00:31:16.97\00:31:18.41 No, so true. We all experience it. 00:31:18.44\00:31:20.34 Well, I just want to thank you so much both of you 00:31:20.38\00:31:23.78 for your dedication to the ministry of prayer. 00:31:23.81\00:31:27.38 There are people who as their prayer lives are growing 00:31:27.42\00:31:31.72 don't always jump in to teach everybody else, 00:31:31.75\00:31:35.22 but thank God that God has His people 00:31:35.26\00:31:38.69 who are teaching others to pray 00:31:38.73\00:31:41.20 and the revival and reformation of the General Conference, 00:31:41.23\00:31:44.03 this has been and we've seen some amazing results 00:31:44.07\00:31:47.67 around the world. 00:31:47.70\00:31:49.04 And we thank you both so much. 00:31:49.07\00:31:51.04 Just want to encourage you at home 00:31:51.07\00:31:54.01 that Jesus said in Luke 11:9, to ask and keep on asking, 00:31:54.04\00:31:59.08 to seek and keep on seeking, to knock and keep on knocking. 00:31:59.11\00:32:02.58 And He said that if we being evil 00:32:02.62\00:32:06.79 know how to give good gifts to our children, 00:32:06.82\00:32:08.92 in verse 13 he said, 00:32:08.96\00:32:10.29 "How much more will the heavenly Father 00:32:10.33\00:32:13.09 give the Holy Spirit 00:32:13.13\00:32:14.53 to those who ask and keep on asking." 00:32:14.56\00:32:17.33 So this isn't just a one time prayer, 00:32:17.37\00:32:19.30 you should pray every morning before you even get out of bed, 00:32:19.33\00:32:23.34 pray for the Lord to lead you, 00:32:23.37\00:32:25.64 to fill you afresh with the spirit 00:32:25.67\00:32:27.44 and lead you and guide you. 00:32:27.48\00:32:28.94 And then, you know, what? 00:32:28.98\00:32:31.05 You'll pray with power, 00:32:31.08\00:32:32.81 when you pray by the power of the Holy Spirit. 00:32:32.85\00:32:35.98 Thank you so much for joining us. 00:32:36.02\00:32:39.75 Well, what a powerful work, and again the young people 00:32:39.79\00:32:41.79 taking lead in doing the work of God 00:32:41.82\00:32:44.06 and just standing up 00:32:44.09\00:32:45.69 and we're there just a couple years ago, 00:32:45.73\00:32:47.80 we are working at a church and all of the singing, 00:32:47.83\00:32:51.63 all of the music, all of the preaching, 00:32:51.67\00:32:53.44 all of the work was being done by young people under 30, 00:32:53.47\00:32:56.74 many under 25, some under 20 00:32:56.77\00:32:59.34 who are leading out in the work of God 00:32:59.37\00:33:00.94 and bringing their friends and when we began to baptize 00:33:00.98\00:33:03.68 I say 80, 85 percent of the people we baptized 00:33:03.71\00:33:06.72 were young people who were brought to Christ 00:33:06.75\00:33:08.75 by other young people. 00:33:08.78\00:33:10.12 And when you have a church 00:33:10.15\00:33:11.49 of such strong youth participation, 00:33:11.52\00:33:13.79 you know that the church is in very good hands. 00:33:13.82\00:33:15.79 Well, our next interview features two people 00:33:15.82\00:33:18.33 that you know well, one perhaps a little better than the other. 00:33:18.36\00:33:21.93 The ministry is very familiar to you, 00:33:21.96\00:33:23.83 it is Asian Aid which comes on every Friday evening 00:33:23.87\00:33:27.90 here on 3ABN. 00:33:27.94\00:33:29.47 You may know Jim Rennie a little bit better 00:33:29.50\00:33:32.14 than Helen Eager, 00:33:32.17\00:33:33.61 because Jim's face appears on the broadcast 00:33:33.64\00:33:35.84 a little bit more, 00:33:35.88\00:33:37.21 but the real energy behind the work 00:33:37.25\00:33:40.58 is our great friend 00:33:40.62\00:33:42.78 who we love so much Helen Eager. 00:33:42.82\00:33:44.49 Now I'll tell you little secret. 00:33:44.52\00:33:45.85 When we were in Phoenix this past ASI, 00:33:45.89\00:33:49.22 they were saying publicly that Helen was going to retire. 00:33:49.26\00:33:52.73 In fact they had a big banquet, big thing for her, 00:33:52.76\00:33:56.10 but she told me off to the side just very quietly, 00:33:56.13\00:33:58.33 she said I'm not retiring, 00:33:58.37\00:34:00.30 Jim's trying to get me to retire 00:34:00.34\00:34:01.67 cause' I worked at this so many years, 00:34:01.70\00:34:03.04 they think I'm tired, but I'm not tired at all. 00:34:03.07\00:34:05.44 Now, Helen Eager is up in the age little bit, 00:34:05.47\00:34:07.58 but she has the strength of 10,000 00:34:07.61\00:34:10.85 and the will and the love for this ministry, 00:34:10.88\00:34:14.38 so I rather believe that even though some people are saying 00:34:14.42\00:34:16.99 that she needs to take it easy, 00:34:17.02\00:34:18.45 I don't think Helen Eager is gonna take it easy at all. 00:34:18.49\00:34:20.79 I think she's gonna keep on working for the Lord 00:34:20.82\00:34:23.46 as long as her strength last. 00:34:23.49\00:34:25.16 Asian Aid gives us hope 00:34:25.19\00:34:26.66 by fostering permanent positive change 00:34:26.70\00:34:29.50 in the lives of disadvantage children 00:34:29.53\00:34:31.83 and their communities. 00:34:31.87\00:34:33.54 Asian Aid is celebrating their 50th anniversary this year. 00:34:33.57\00:34:37.97 Helen Eager has given her all to Asian Aid. 00:34:38.01\00:34:41.34 She is as I say still the driving force. 00:34:41.38\00:34:44.11 She along with Jim Rennie and a host of volunteers 00:34:44.15\00:34:47.45 and the host of servants in these countries 00:34:47.48\00:34:49.18 where they were do a fantastic work for the Lord. 00:34:49.22\00:34:52.95 You're gonna like this one. 00:34:52.99\00:34:54.32 These are two great people who are doing something great 00:34:54.36\00:34:56.19 for the cause of Christ. 00:34:56.22\00:34:57.56 Helen Eager, Jim Rennie interviewed by Shelley Quinn. 00:34:57.59\00:35:03.80 You know, it is amazing what the Lord can do 00:35:03.83\00:35:07.04 to our hearts individually and through us 00:35:07.07\00:35:11.67 when we will commit our talents to Him. 00:35:11.71\00:35:15.14 And we are here today to honor the Lord 00:35:15.18\00:35:18.48 for what he Has accomplished 00:35:18.51\00:35:20.85 through a very committed individual 00:35:20.88\00:35:23.42 and you all probably are very familiar with her 00:35:23.45\00:35:25.72 if you have watched Asian Aid on 3ABN. 00:35:25.75\00:35:30.06 We're here to speak with us today is Helen Eager, 00:35:30.09\00:35:33.40 and Helen is the co-founder of Asian Aid. 00:35:33.43\00:35:35.86 We also have Jim Rennie, 00:35:35.90\00:35:37.67 who is the CEO of Asian Aid USA. 00:35:37.70\00:35:41.27 And we just want to welcome you both here to the floor. 00:35:41.30\00:35:46.88 Jim, I'm gonna start with you actually 00:35:46.91\00:35:49.31 and then we're gonna come back to Helen, 00:35:49.34\00:35:50.68 because I know Helen's humility 00:35:50.71\00:35:54.62 and I know she doesn't like to be talked about 00:35:54.65\00:35:57.09 but, Helen, I just want to assure you, 00:35:57.12\00:35:58.79 we're not trying to lift you up, 00:35:58.82\00:36:00.99 but rather we're lifting the Lord high 00:36:01.02\00:36:03.73 for how He used you. 00:36:03.76\00:36:05.66 Asian Aid is celebrating their 50th anniversary. 00:36:05.69\00:36:09.06 Tell us just a little 00:36:09.10\00:36:10.53 of what the work that's going on in India? 00:36:10.57\00:36:14.30 Well, Asian Aid was started in Australia 50 years ago. 00:36:14.34\00:36:18.67 The USA has been going about 12 years I think, 00:36:18.71\00:36:22.31 and so I stood back and just looked at the work 00:36:22.34\00:36:26.45 that Helen has done 00:36:26.48\00:36:27.98 and to say it in a few words is very, very difficult, 00:36:28.02\00:36:31.99 because she is a very humble lady 00:36:32.02\00:36:34.22 and I don't think we've spoken enough 00:36:34.26\00:36:37.33 about the momentum and the push. 00:36:37.36\00:36:41.00 She pushes things, 00:36:41.03\00:36:42.76 she spots a need where we would not see it, 00:36:42.80\00:36:46.80 and she has given momentum 00:36:46.84\00:36:49.90 as I've said to the work in India and Nepal, 00:36:49.94\00:36:53.64 Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh, 00:36:53.68\00:36:55.24 but very strongly India and Nepal. 00:36:55.28\00:36:58.38 And in the period 00:36:58.41\00:37:00.62 from when Helen start up with Asian Aid to now, 00:37:00.65\00:37:03.82 I estimate that for women's prolapse 00:37:03.85\00:37:07.66 and health operations in Nepal 00:37:07.69\00:37:10.63 which is critical to these women. 00:37:10.66\00:37:13.13 Yes, it is. 00:37:13.16\00:37:14.50 These are over 11,000 women who had the operation 00:37:14.53\00:37:18.80 and then in itself is a dramatic impact 00:37:18.83\00:37:21.70 when you think about 11,000 women 00:37:21.74\00:37:24.67 having their lives changed. 00:37:24.71\00:37:26.88 It's very difficult to know the number of children 00:37:26.91\00:37:29.78 that have been sponsored in that time. 00:37:29.81\00:37:32.65 And tell us little how Asian Aid works 00:37:32.68\00:37:36.92 what the mission of Asian Aid is, 00:37:36.95\00:37:38.32 so people who are not familiar with your ministry... 00:37:38.35\00:37:41.32 Well, our actual activity is child's sponsorship. 00:37:41.36\00:37:44.59 We take a child based on need 00:37:44.63\00:37:46.80 and put them in an Adventist school, 00:37:46.83\00:37:48.90 so we're giving them an education, 00:37:48.93\00:37:51.17 we're introducing them to Jesus 00:37:51.20\00:37:53.47 and we're giving support to the mission school. 00:37:53.50\00:37:56.17 Now, right now, 00:37:56.20\00:37:57.54 Asian Aid USA has about 3,500 sponsored children 00:37:57.57\00:38:02.11 in India, Nepal, Bangladesh and now, Myanmar, 00:38:02.14\00:38:06.21 and Asian Aid Australia probably has over 6,000. 00:38:06.25\00:38:10.09 So right now 00:38:10.12\00:38:11.79 and the work that Helen help set up right now 00:38:11.82\00:38:14.99 there's 10,000 in classrooms. 00:38:15.02\00:38:17.33 And I estimate that over the time 00:38:17.36\00:38:19.83 it's easily over 50,000 children 00:38:19.86\00:38:24.17 have had an education through our sponsorship system. 00:38:24.20\00:38:28.47 Praise God. 00:38:28.50\00:38:29.84 And I estimate once again that, you know, 00:38:29.87\00:38:32.57 it's 40 to 60 million dollars 00:38:32.61\00:38:36.21 that have gone to Christian and Adventist education. 00:38:36.24\00:38:40.28 So that's wonderful anchor, 00:38:40.32\00:38:42.58 but it doesn't underestimate the energy, 00:38:42.62\00:38:45.92 the inspiration and the spirituality 00:38:45.95\00:38:49.16 that Helen has delivered in these lives. 00:38:49.19\00:38:51.56 You know, Helen, I know someone who went to India with you 00:38:51.59\00:38:55.60 and she told me that you were like, 00:38:55.63\00:38:58.43 and I know you do not gonna like this comparison, 00:38:58.47\00:39:00.44 but she said you were like the Mother Teresa of India. 00:39:00.47\00:39:03.20 She said that everywhere you went 00:39:03.24\00:39:05.81 that there were not just children 00:39:05.84\00:39:08.71 but adults who look to you as a mother. 00:39:08.74\00:39:12.21 You work so many years there, and you've seen children 00:39:12.25\00:39:16.48 who have come into this program ragged, hungry with no hope, 00:39:16.52\00:39:23.46 I mean street children who have gone through the system now, 00:39:23.49\00:39:27.93 been educated and it really made something of their lives. 00:39:27.96\00:39:31.63 Tell us just from your perspective, 00:39:31.67\00:39:34.04 what these years have meant to you 00:39:34.07\00:39:35.94 and share a few stories about your kids? 00:39:35.97\00:39:39.64 I could tell you stories all afternoon 00:39:39.67\00:39:41.74 but I think actually starting the school 00:39:41.78\00:39:45.41 for the deaf children and the blind children 00:39:45.45\00:39:47.65 was something really special 00:39:47.68\00:39:49.68 and the children from our orphanages. 00:39:49.72\00:39:53.19 It was wonderful to go to UK a couple of years ago, 00:39:53.22\00:39:56.42 and see so many of our young people 00:39:56.46\00:39:59.06 that were at previously Asian Aid actually helping 00:39:59.09\00:40:01.90 to run the Indian churches and that kind of you know, 00:40:01.93\00:40:04.97 the programs there, that was a real thrill. 00:40:05.00\00:40:07.70 And this one or two of them in US 00:40:07.74\00:40:11.47 a lot of the girls completed nursing 00:40:11.51\00:40:13.58 so that kind of gave them an opportunity. 00:40:13.61\00:40:15.94 But you know, some of them have really committed their lives 00:40:15.98\00:40:19.55 to do something especially for God. 00:40:19.58\00:40:21.58 And one of the boys who is a doctor 00:40:21.62\00:40:23.59 is working in an area in India now, 00:40:23.62\00:40:26.05 and he sees all the patients free 00:40:26.09\00:40:29.22 and you know, he just says 00:40:29.26\00:40:30.89 that's what Jesus wants me to do 00:40:30.93\00:40:32.59 and even now he's been offered costly you know, 00:40:32.63\00:40:35.80 big salaries, he wants to do what Jesus would have him do, 00:40:35.83\00:40:39.00 so that is one of the best things. 00:40:39.03\00:40:40.37 Amen. 00:40:40.40\00:40:41.74 You're seeing those children really doing something for God 00:40:41.77\00:40:44.34 with their lives is the best thing. 00:40:44.37\00:40:47.38 I know that my husband and I have been sponsoring a child 00:40:47.41\00:40:50.25 for well, since we first met you, 00:40:50.28\00:40:52.08 I don't know if that was 11 or 12 years ago 00:40:52.11\00:40:54.32 and I know that we've seen, you know, we get the weekly, 00:40:54.35\00:40:57.89 not weekly the yearly updates from 00:40:57.92\00:41:01.19 and he is in medical school I think, 00:41:01.22\00:41:03.36 I don't if it's nursing school or medical school, 00:41:03.39\00:41:06.19 but he has thrived and he's just interesting 00:41:06.23\00:41:08.70 to see how much more each year has much more spiritual 00:41:08.73\00:41:12.60 he has become and his dedication to the Lord. 00:41:12.63\00:41:15.64 Now, this was not without a great deal of sacrifice 00:41:15.67\00:41:19.57 from you and from your husband I should say, 00:41:19.61\00:41:22.04 because you actually live in Australia with your husband 00:41:22.08\00:41:26.11 or that's home, but you spend, 00:41:26.15\00:41:29.48 what at least half the year in India? 00:41:29.52\00:41:32.35 At the moment I'm mostly going to Nepal 00:41:32.39\00:41:34.89 but I used to go to India at least for a few weeks, 00:41:34.92\00:41:38.59 at least six weeks or more every year. 00:41:38.63\00:41:41.83 India, Nepal and Bangladesh mostly 00:41:41.86\00:41:44.03 and I mean in the beginning, 00:41:44.07\00:41:45.40 my husband used to pay all the expenses for me 00:41:45.43\00:41:47.24 to do that you know, for about 12 years 00:41:47.27\00:41:49.80 until Asian Aid got too big and then, you know, 00:41:49.84\00:41:52.71 but just seeing the changes in the children's lives, 00:41:52.74\00:41:56.68 there's just so many of them and it's just so wonderful 00:41:56.71\00:41:59.95 and to hear from them every now and then looks, 00:41:59.98\00:42:03.08 you know some of the blind children, 00:42:03.12\00:42:04.92 the blind children have been really special to me. 00:42:04.95\00:42:07.89 Helen, what would happen to these children 00:42:07.92\00:42:10.76 if they weren't sponsored, 00:42:10.79\00:42:13.03 if you didn't have I mean like the children 00:42:13.06\00:42:15.60 that you don't have enough funds to sponsor, 00:42:15.63\00:42:18.17 what happens to these children? 00:42:18.20\00:42:20.24 Well, I mean some of them would, 00:42:20.27\00:42:22.30 some of them probably would have died, 00:42:22.34\00:42:24.51 because if they've got no parents and no home 00:42:24.54\00:42:28.01 and if they're just begging on the street 00:42:28.04\00:42:30.21 or otherwise they can be trafficked, 00:42:30.25\00:42:33.08 I mean children these days from Nepal 00:42:33.11\00:42:36.55 they even traffic young boys for body parts for transplants, 00:42:36.58\00:42:41.22 so and I mean occasionally children... 00:42:41.26\00:42:43.12 So when you say traffic 00:42:43.16\00:42:44.49 like a lot of the girls are trafficked 00:42:44.53\00:42:45.86 for the sex traffic. 00:42:45.89\00:42:47.60 Yes, into sex trafficking, but I mean even boys, 00:42:47.63\00:42:50.87 people don't usually think boys are trafficked 00:42:50.90\00:42:52.70 but at times they had trafficked 00:42:52.73\00:42:54.17 for may be to work in factories 00:42:54.20\00:42:56.91 which is a project that Jim and Asian Aid 00:42:56.94\00:42:59.51 is trying to get involved in a bit more in India, 00:42:59.54\00:43:02.78 is taking the children out of these factories 00:43:02.81\00:43:05.05 where they're forced to work, when they are only small kids 00:43:05.08\00:43:07.35 you know, at 9, 10 years of age. 00:43:07.38\00:43:09.48 So as well as the sex trafficking 00:43:09.52\00:43:11.32 you know, boys are at risk as well, 00:43:11.35\00:43:13.25 so, you know, for a child just to be a beggar 00:43:13.29\00:43:16.02 or to, you know, the traffic is just, you know, 00:43:16.06\00:43:21.56 it's just horrible to think what could have happened 00:43:21.60\00:43:24.20 to so many of those children. 00:43:24.23\00:43:26.20 And now you actually, 00:43:26.23\00:43:28.20 you and your husband had two daughters 00:43:28.24\00:43:30.17 but you actually adopted several children 00:43:30.21\00:43:33.34 from India, didn't you? 00:43:33.38\00:43:34.71 Yes, we did but that's long ago now. 00:43:34.74\00:43:36.64 Yeah, well that's precious though. 00:43:36.68\00:43:38.68 Jim, I know that you had, 00:43:38.71\00:43:41.32 how many years now have you been working 00:43:41.35\00:43:42.75 with Asian Aid USA? 00:43:42.78\00:43:44.35 Just from the seven years. 00:43:44.39\00:43:45.79 Seven years and I know you've grown 00:43:45.82\00:43:47.19 to love this woman who is now... 00:43:47.22\00:43:51.83 She doesn't like the word retire, 00:43:51.86\00:43:53.23 'cause she says she will never retire 00:43:53.26\00:43:54.96 but that's kind of what you're talking about 00:43:55.00\00:43:57.20 is she is semi-retiring. 00:43:57.23\00:43:58.97 Semi-retiring. 00:43:59.00\00:44:00.34 But I think that when you're working for the Lord, 00:44:00.37\00:44:03.94 as long as He gives you breathe, 00:44:03.97\00:44:05.31 you just keep going, right. 00:44:05.34\00:44:07.28 And I know you won't be abandoning your children there. 00:44:07.31\00:44:13.55 Yeah, that's right. 00:44:13.58\00:44:14.95 So what are some of the future plans 00:44:14.98\00:44:17.22 for Asian Aid? 00:44:17.25\00:44:19.12 Well, we still got our strong sponsorship program 00:44:19.15\00:44:23.19 and I guess our two major new directions 00:44:23.22\00:44:26.70 as Helen mentioned 00:44:26.73\00:44:28.06 where we have established operation Child Rescue 00:44:28.10\00:44:30.83 and it's focused on trafficking rescue, 00:44:30.87\00:44:34.30 baby rescue, and orphan rescue and slum rescue. 00:44:34.34\00:44:38.44 So operation Child Rescue will be a brand 00:44:38.47\00:44:41.84 that we will take to Christianity wide, 00:44:41.88\00:44:45.25 but the other key thing for Asian Aid 00:44:45.28\00:44:47.25 is going into Myanmar. 00:44:47.28\00:44:49.18 Myanmar is the old Burma. Yes. 00:44:49.22\00:44:51.15 And we've just taken 600 children near 00:44:51.19\00:44:55.42 so that's our biggest new venture 00:44:55.46\00:44:57.79 and if I may say our biggest need right now, 00:44:57.83\00:45:01.26 these children, the school system in Myanmar 00:45:01.30\00:45:04.63 is critical to the growth of the church 00:45:04.67\00:45:07.14 and so it's a real need, 00:45:07.17\00:45:09.07 and I've just come back from there, 00:45:09.10\00:45:11.41 it was very exciting and we'll be releasing 00:45:11.44\00:45:14.18 our first Hope in Motion program on 3ABN shortly. 00:45:14.21\00:45:18.15 Amen. That is wonderful series. 00:45:18.18\00:45:20.75 People will love that series. Yeah. 00:45:20.78\00:45:22.58 If someone is interested, 00:45:22.62\00:45:24.52 you can either be a sponsor for a child 00:45:24.55\00:45:28.36 or you can just... 00:45:28.39\00:45:30.59 these new projects you just donate toward that project? 00:45:30.63\00:45:35.20 Yes, there is two ways you can sponsor a specific child 00:45:35.23\00:45:39.53 and or you could either give funds 00:45:39.57\00:45:43.00 to the were needed most fund 00:45:43.04\00:45:46.07 and were needed most fund helps everything we do. 00:45:46.11\00:45:49.91 And we've also got to educate Myanmar fund 00:45:49.94\00:45:53.48 if you really feel committed to helping Myanmar. 00:45:53.52\00:45:56.48 So that are the three best ways sponsoring a specific child, 00:45:56.52\00:46:01.89 what I call out were needed most, 00:46:01.92\00:46:04.13 so we can use that effectively where it is needed. 00:46:04.16\00:46:08.00 And then now if you feel a calling 00:46:08.03\00:46:10.27 and you read about Myanmar 00:46:10.30\00:46:12.77 we have an educate Myanmar fund. 00:46:12.80\00:46:15.37 Now are those children Burmese children 00:46:15.40\00:46:17.21 or are they? 00:46:17.24\00:46:18.57 Yes. Okay, they're Burmese children. 00:46:18.61\00:46:20.61 Can I just mention one of our boys 00:46:20.64\00:46:22.81 who grew up in our Elim Orphanage 00:46:22.84\00:46:24.95 has just been my principal of the blind school, 00:46:24.98\00:46:27.45 so we're very proud of him too. 00:46:27.48\00:46:29.18 It's lovely to see these young people, 00:46:29.22\00:46:31.65 you know, doing something for God and you know, 00:46:31.69\00:46:33.69 something special it's... 00:46:33.72\00:46:35.26 I thought that was lovely to see him as principal of, 00:46:35.29\00:46:38.99 you know, of the blind school 00:46:39.03\00:46:40.36 which is a special school in my thinking. 00:46:40.40\00:46:42.13 You have faced a lot of challenges, 00:46:42.16\00:46:46.40 you have seen threats even, 00:46:46.43\00:46:50.74 but there's been so much 00:46:50.77\00:46:53.81 God has brought so much of success to this work. 00:46:53.84\00:46:57.45 What's been your most difficult 00:46:57.48\00:47:00.52 and most joyful on the other end of the pole, 00:47:00.55\00:47:03.08 most joyful experience? 00:47:03.12\00:47:08.12 I think just seeing so many children 00:47:08.16\00:47:11.03 that have grown up and that are following Jesus. 00:47:11.06\00:47:13.40 It's the children in our boarding schools 00:47:13.43\00:47:15.46 and in the orphanages that really, you know, 00:47:15.50\00:47:18.23 learn about Jesus, 00:47:18.27\00:47:19.60 because they are there for Sabbath, 00:47:19.63\00:47:20.97 they are there for worships, 00:47:21.00\00:47:22.34 there's children in our day school, it's difficult, 00:47:22.37\00:47:24.71 I mean of course some of them come from Christian family 00:47:24.74\00:47:26.88 so that's different, 00:47:26.91\00:47:28.24 but if they're non Christian, it's hard to have enough time 00:47:28.28\00:47:31.41 to really teach them very much about Jesus, 00:47:31.45\00:47:33.95 but so many children from our orphanages 00:47:33.98\00:47:36.79 and the boarding schools have, you know, really accepted Jesus 00:47:36.82\00:47:41.29 and to me that's a the best thing. 00:47:41.32\00:47:44.29 And you see them share that as they grow up. 00:47:44.33\00:47:48.60 Yes. 00:47:48.63\00:47:49.96 And so each time you take a child 00:47:50.00\00:47:53.70 and you train them up 00:47:53.74\00:47:55.07 in way the Lord would have them trained as they become adults, 00:47:55.10\00:47:58.47 they're so appreciate of that, 00:47:58.51\00:48:00.21 they're turning around and there... 00:48:00.24\00:48:02.01 it's like you have put one up who's gonna go over 00:48:02.04\00:48:05.11 and multiply it and it may be a 100 volt of multiplication. 00:48:05.15\00:48:09.78 Our program that we've got now in Nepal, 00:48:09.82\00:48:11.82 called Three Angels Nepal, 00:48:11.85\00:48:13.19 we've got 12 young people working as home parents, 00:48:13.22\00:48:16.12 accountant, teachers who were Asian Aid students 00:48:16.16\00:48:19.49 so that is special also. 00:48:19.53\00:48:20.86 Oh, that's precious. 00:48:20.90\00:48:22.23 They're giving back now to children that... 00:48:22.26\00:48:24.67 Amen. 00:48:24.70\00:48:26.03 All right, so if someone, 00:48:26.07\00:48:27.74 if the Holy Spirit is moving on someone's heart, Jim, 00:48:27.77\00:48:31.04 and they want to be a part either of educate Myanmar 00:48:31.07\00:48:34.11 or they want to may be, 00:48:34.14\00:48:36.01 be part of the rescue the Child Rescue program 00:48:36.04\00:48:38.88 or sponsor a child, how, tell us about your website 00:48:38.91\00:48:42.28 and how they can sponsor? 00:48:42.32\00:48:44.05 Well, go to our website asianaid.org, 00:48:44.09\00:48:47.82 org so Asian Aid one word.org 00:48:47.86\00:48:52.03 and there is all the information. 00:48:52.06\00:48:54.33 You can get the phone number of the website 00:48:54.36\00:48:56.23 and give us a call. 00:48:56.26\00:48:57.70 You can sponsor a child or donate online. 00:48:57.73\00:49:00.30 So that's asianaid.org.
