00:09:35.24\00:09:38.07 And then let's go to the beginning, 00:09:38.11\00:09:39.67 how you met? 00:09:39.71\00:09:41.11 Well, we kind of tied in. 00:09:41.14\00:09:42.48 We met at the Black Hills Health and Educational Center. 00:09:42.51\00:09:44.95 Actually, Jay started working there. 00:09:44.98\00:09:47.55 We'd already met, you were doing 00:09:47.58\00:09:48.92 some work in Hot Springs. 00:09:48.95\00:09:50.35 And then we started working together there 00:09:50.39\00:09:52.85 and worked there for a few years. 00:09:52.89\00:09:55.66 The wellness program transforms lives. 00:09:55.69\00:09:59.13 A lot of people can't afford it. 00:09:59.16\00:10:01.73 And so, Jay and I found throughout our years 00:10:01.76\00:10:04.90 that we played off each other extremely well. 00:10:04.93\00:10:08.70 And we can just kind of go, take it away Jay, 00:10:08.74\00:10:11.67 take it away Dick 00:10:11.71\00:10:13.04 and we would do lectures together 00:10:13.07\00:10:15.61 and we just clicked. 00:10:15.64\00:10:17.51 And once upon a time Jay said, 00:10:17.55\00:10:20.08 "Why don't we do something for 3ABN?" 00:10:20.12\00:10:21.62 I said, "They're not looking for a new comedy Jay." 00:10:21.65\00:10:23.35 'Cause we really, we get, we get going, 00:10:25.25\00:10:28.12 and we get laughing and we've a good time. 00:10:28.16\00:10:30.23 But we thought, even way back then, 00:10:30.26\00:10:33.19 it will be great to have some type of program 00:10:33.23\00:10:35.86 that people who can't afford to go 00:10:35.90\00:10:38.27 to a wellness types of program 00:10:38.30\00:10:39.90 can still get the educational aspect 00:10:39.93\00:10:41.64 and get a step by step approach 00:10:41.67\00:10:43.64 on how to change your lifestyle and we move forward. 00:10:43.67\00:10:45.77 Okay. 00:10:45.81\00:10:47.14 How many programs will be in this series? 00:10:47.18\00:10:52.68 Well, we're gonna do start with 13 00:10:52.71\00:10:54.65 but we can take it as far as you want. 00:10:54.68\00:10:56.35 I mean 'cause when we were at the Black Hills, 00:10:56.38\00:10:58.75 I'd lecture, he would lecture, the doctor would lecture, 00:10:58.79\00:11:01.49 so there are so many different components of health, 00:11:01.52\00:11:03.26 and it's such a broad topic 00:11:03.29\00:11:05.53 that we can spend a lot of time on it. 00:11:05.56\00:11:07.40 So we can easily put together, I don't know, 00:11:07.43\00:11:09.43 52 week series if we wanted to. 00:11:09.46\00:11:11.50 We will plan on season 2, 3 and 4. 00:11:11.53\00:11:15.00 Jay, when somebody who doesn't know much about health, 00:11:15.04\00:11:21.61 will they be able to watch this series 00:11:21.64\00:11:24.31 and kind of start, 00:11:24.35\00:11:26.08 as if they were going to in lifestyle center. 00:11:26.11\00:11:28.88 Well, will this be instructional? 00:11:28.92\00:11:30.92 Tell us a little bit about the format of the program 00:11:30.95\00:11:33.86 and what benefit this is gonna bring to our viewers? 00:11:33.89\00:11:36.99 Okay, that's a great question 'cause I don't know about Dick, 00:11:37.03\00:11:41.16 but I didn't grow up in a real, with these health principles 00:11:41.20\00:11:43.67 that we're gonna present, 00:11:43.70\00:11:45.13 and so that's the thing that 00:11:45.17\00:11:46.60 Dick and I have never losses that idea of 00:11:46.63\00:11:49.00 if somebody has never heard of this before 00:11:49.04\00:11:50.57 or where they are coming from 00:11:50.61\00:11:51.97 confusing information in society, 00:11:52.01\00:11:54.48 how do you sort through it. 00:11:54.51\00:11:55.84 We work more from a principle standpoint 00:11:55.88\00:11:57.78 so you can adapt it to your life 00:11:57.81\00:11:59.21 'cause lot of times people 00:11:59.25\00:12:00.58 will come up to Dick or I and say, 00:12:00.62\00:12:02.45 put me on a program. 00:12:02.48\00:12:03.89 Well, that be my program. 00:12:03.92\00:12:05.65 I don't know your lifestyle, your likes, dislikes. 00:12:05.69\00:12:08.19 And when I focus on foods, somebody says, 00:12:08.22\00:12:09.72 "Well, I don't like broccoli 00:12:09.76\00:12:11.09 or I don't like kale or something." 00:12:11.13\00:12:12.46 Fine, eat something different. 00:12:12.49\00:12:14.10 And so, we'd like to organize things into principles 00:12:14.13\00:12:19.30 and let people apply that to their lifestyle. 00:12:19.33\00:12:21.70 Wonderful.. 00:12:21.74\00:12:23.07 And so we'd be bringing it out a step at a time 00:12:23.10\00:12:24.81 and adapt it to however you want them, 00:12:24.84\00:12:27.14 like Body and Spirit was. 00:12:27.18\00:12:28.51 If you can't do with dumbbells, do with the towel, 00:12:28.54\00:12:31.05 do with your body weight. 00:12:31.08\00:12:32.41 Right. So, yeah, it will be. 00:12:32.45\00:12:33.98 And then if somebody is more advanced, 00:12:34.02\00:12:35.35 they will be able to jump in 00:12:35.38\00:12:36.72 and say "I can take that principle 00:12:36.75\00:12:38.09 and apply it to my life." 00:12:38.12\00:12:39.45 I like that. Yeah. 00:12:39.49\00:12:40.82 So what is the program format? 00:12:40.86\00:12:42.26 The program format is, 00:12:42.29\00:12:43.63 we're gonna start out talking about, 00:12:43.66\00:12:44.99 basically, we gonna take 00:12:45.03\00:12:46.36 more of a system's approach to the body. 00:12:46.39\00:12:48.10 And I understand that's the way they teach med school 00:12:48.13\00:12:50.50 and a lot of premed people. 00:12:50.53\00:12:52.17 Now, you take a system of the body, 00:12:52.20\00:12:54.10 not losing the concept of the overall, 00:12:54.14\00:12:56.64 entire being of a person 00:12:56.67\00:12:59.27 and so we'll give a little anatomy in physiology, 00:12:59.31\00:13:01.34 Dick has extensive background in that. 00:13:01.38\00:13:03.11 And then we'll go into how you can apply that 00:13:03.14\00:13:05.81 in your exercise routine, your mental regime 00:13:05.85\00:13:08.62 and how you start your day, 00:13:08.65\00:13:10.12 how you do that with food, how you navigate grocery, 00:13:10.15\00:13:13.09 shopping and things like that. 00:13:13.12\00:13:14.59 And then pull it together at the end like 00:13:14.62\00:13:16.06 what are the essential components 00:13:16.09\00:13:17.43 that I can plug into and we're gonna release it. 00:13:17.46\00:13:19.79 You know, week at a time, so try this for the first week, 00:13:19.83\00:13:22.43 and then add this next week to the first week. 00:13:22.46\00:13:25.00 And by the end of 13 weeks, it should be 00:13:25.03\00:13:26.63 a total transformation in a lifestyle 00:13:26.67\00:13:28.84 or if people just need a little tweaking, 00:13:28.87\00:13:30.97 they'll get the tweak. 00:13:31.01\00:13:32.34 Yes, yes. 00:13:32.37\00:13:33.71 So, you said you didn't grow, how did you grow up? 00:13:33.74\00:13:35.41 I grew up in mid western town, Grand Forks, North Dakota. 00:13:35.44\00:13:39.45 So I've a little bit of a... 00:13:39.48\00:13:40.82 People ask me, "Are you're from Canada?" 00:13:40.85\00:13:42.42 And I say, "Well, little bit south of there." 00:13:42.45\00:13:44.59 So in North Dakota I grew up in a typical mid western home 00:13:44.62\00:13:48.12 where we eat a lot of white bread 00:13:48.16\00:13:49.96 and we ate a lot of... 00:13:49.99\00:13:51.33 Drink a lot of milk and different things like that. 00:13:51.36\00:13:53.23 So I grew up playing sports, and very athletic, out hunting, 00:13:53.26\00:13:56.63 fishing, very active in things like that. 00:13:56.67\00:13:59.30 Grew up in a religious home, where we went to church 00:13:59.33\00:14:01.84 and things like that. 00:14:01.87\00:14:03.20 And I went to CCDs and things like that. 00:14:03.24\00:14:05.11 So there was always those components 00:14:05.14\00:14:06.61 and I have a grandfather 00:14:06.64\00:14:08.64 who really pushed me to get education 00:14:08.68\00:14:10.41 'cause he wanted me to be more successful than him, okay. 00:14:10.45\00:14:14.95 He thought me work ethic. 00:14:14.98\00:14:16.75 My parents taught me work ethic and things like that. 00:14:16.79\00:14:19.05 So when I had to go to college, I just showed up at college 00:14:19.09\00:14:21.46 and said, "I'm here, I didn't know 00:14:21.49\00:14:23.63 what I was going to study" 00:14:23.66\00:14:24.99 but athletics brought me to college 00:14:25.03\00:14:27.46 and then I figured why I need take some classes 00:14:27.50\00:14:29.26 so I can be eligible to play. 00:14:29.30\00:14:31.17 And so, I just bumped into a scheduling of classes 00:14:31.20\00:14:34.94 and I thought, well, here is this nutrition thing, 00:14:34.97\00:14:37.31 maybe I'll take that and see if that has anything 00:14:37.34\00:14:38.97 to do with my athletic performance." 00:14:39.01\00:14:41.78 Because that was kind of infancy of sports nutrition... 00:14:41.81\00:14:44.98 So that's how I kind of got 00:14:45.01\00:14:46.92 into this whole scheme of things. 00:14:46.95\00:14:48.28 So it grabbed your attention obviously. 00:14:48.32\00:14:49.65 It did, yeah, it's right 'cause it fit my schedule. 00:14:49.68\00:14:52.62 Isn't it funny how... 00:14:52.65\00:14:54.22 And I'm sure that was God's providence for you. 00:14:54.26\00:14:57.23 But now how did you become 00:14:57.26\00:14:58.83 a Seventh-day Adventist Christian? 00:14:58.86\00:15:00.53 Well, while I was going to college 00:15:00.56\00:15:02.33 and playing hockey, 00:15:02.36\00:15:03.70 I also worked part time at a health club, 00:15:03.73\00:15:05.53 and at that time I was searching 00:15:05.57\00:15:07.30 in my own life, kind of thinking, 00:15:07.34\00:15:08.67 there is a kind of missing element. 00:15:08.70\00:15:10.37 And I was feeling, you know with my parents 00:15:10.41\00:15:12.47 kind of instilled in me the spiritual component 00:15:12.51\00:15:14.78 but I didn't really pursue that in a personal way. 00:15:14.81\00:15:17.81 But I felt a drawing, you know, 00:15:17.85\00:15:19.91 now I see it as the Lord calling me or drawing me, 00:15:19.95\00:15:22.92 but at the time I didn't know 00:15:22.95\00:15:24.29 what it was, so I went in search of, 00:15:24.32\00:15:26.15 you know, how do I figure this thing out, 00:15:26.19\00:15:27.59 there is something going out inside here. 00:15:27.62\00:15:29.72 And so I started reading the Bible 00:15:29.76\00:15:31.39 and fellowshipping with different people 00:15:31.43\00:15:34.20 that were more spiritual. 00:15:34.23\00:15:35.56 On college campuses, there's all kinds of things, 00:15:35.60\00:15:37.90 you know, you always think about 00:15:37.93\00:15:39.27 getting into the negative stuff, 00:15:39.30\00:15:40.64 but there is always those positive things too 00:15:40.67\00:15:42.00 and so I start searching out at work 00:15:42.04\00:15:44.67 where I was working, there was a new employee there 00:15:44.71\00:15:47.08 and we got talking 00:15:47.11\00:15:48.58 and she invited me to the church with her 00:15:48.61\00:15:50.45 'cause she found out I wasn't 00:15:50.48\00:15:51.81 really fellowshipping at a church. 00:15:51.85\00:15:55.22 And so she invited me with her 00:15:55.25\00:15:56.58 and she happened to be a Seventh-day Adventist. 00:15:56.62\00:15:58.95 So that kind of set me in line and I have to say this 00:15:58.99\00:16:02.52 that the thing that really hooked me 00:16:02.56\00:16:04.39 into my own personal faith 00:16:04.43\00:16:06.23 is the Sabbath school quarterly... 00:16:06.26\00:16:08.10 Amen. I just... 00:16:08.13\00:16:09.70 To this day, I read that everyday most, 00:16:09.73\00:16:13.97 you know, most of the time. 00:16:14.00\00:16:15.34 And so I... 00:16:15.37\00:16:16.71 That really drew me in and showed me 00:16:16.74\00:16:18.11 how to get into the scriptures and how to understand 00:16:18.14\00:16:20.11 and apply them to myself. 00:16:20.14\00:16:21.81 And for the viewers who are watching 00:16:21.84\00:16:23.51 who may not know what he is saying at this. 00:16:23.55\00:16:25.51 The Seventh-day Adventist church 00:16:25.55\00:16:26.88 puts out this quarterly studying 00:16:26.92\00:16:29.48 and it will be very focused on either an author of the Bible 00:16:29.52\00:16:34.36 and in his works or topical type thing. 00:16:34.39\00:16:37.59 And I heard it said, and actually Jim Gilley 00:16:37.63\00:16:40.73 used to say this all the time is that, 00:16:40.76\00:16:43.13 "He was told if you would just study 00:16:43.16\00:16:45.03 your Sabbath school quarterlies over a period of a few years, 00:16:45.07\00:16:48.27 you will have the equivalent of going to a seminary, 00:16:48.30\00:16:51.47 so it's, it is very, very helpful 00:16:51.51\00:16:55.21 for your development of your spiritual life 00:16:55.24\00:16:57.48 and try to understand to God's word, 00:16:57.51\00:16:58.85 so that's very good. 00:16:58.88\00:17:00.32 Now, Dick, you tell us little more about your move 00:17:00.35\00:17:05.85 because you have left the Dakotas, 00:17:05.89\00:17:11.66 now you're down there in Arizona. 00:17:11.69\00:17:14.00 And I know that your wife Lisa 00:17:14.03\00:17:16.50 will be on this program with you. 00:17:16.53\00:17:18.43 And she is going to be doing... 00:17:18.47\00:17:20.34 Is she the one that's doing the exercises? 00:17:20.37\00:17:22.10 She is gonna do the exercises. 00:17:22.14\00:17:23.97 You are so smart. 00:17:24.01\00:17:26.47 So you've got her, she will be doing 00:17:26.51\00:17:28.21 the exercise segment, but you all actually have, 00:17:28.24\00:17:32.45 did you move, when you moved did you start 00:17:32.48\00:17:34.15 your health club up down there? 00:17:34.18\00:17:36.22 Well, it's a tremendous miracle story, 00:17:36.25\00:17:38.95 'cause we were at the Black Hills 00:17:38.99\00:17:41.32 Health and Education Center getting along 00:17:41.36\00:17:42.76 with running our programming in Rapid City 00:17:42.79\00:17:44.69 called Fit-in-15 our personal training thing... 00:17:44.73\00:17:47.30 Can you say that slower, Fit-in-15? 00:17:47.33\00:17:50.40 Fit-in-15, right. 00:17:50.43\00:17:51.77 So you get fit in a 15 minute regimen. 00:17:51.80\00:17:53.67 Exactly, yeah we can put into him 00:17:53.70\00:17:56.04 in a very short period of time, 00:17:56.07\00:17:57.97 but what is happening is my business 00:17:58.01\00:18:01.11 was growing faster and I wasn't having enough time 00:18:01.14\00:18:05.25 to spend at Black Hills Health and Education Center 00:18:05.28\00:18:07.12 'cause I had only two days a week. 00:18:07.15\00:18:09.25 And Rich and Ronda Smith came in 00:18:09.28\00:18:12.75 and I lost the one little helper 00:18:12.79\00:18:14.19 I had at Fit-in-15 otherwise it was just Lisa and I. 00:18:14.22\00:18:17.59 And so I told Wealer, I said, I just don't have time, 00:18:17.63\00:18:20.43 Rich and Ronda here, I think I basically 00:18:20.46\00:18:23.23 was sent here to kind of keep it together 00:18:23.26\00:18:25.50 'cause I was at the center for a long time, 00:18:25.53\00:18:27.04 then I left for quite a few years, 00:18:27.07\00:18:28.64 then I came back again. 00:18:28.67\00:18:30.21 And so Rich and Ronda came in and they bought with them 00:18:30.24\00:18:32.91 Dr. John Kelly and now Hans Diehl is there, 00:18:32.94\00:18:37.95 going there, the Chips program is being embraced there... 00:18:37.98\00:18:40.78 I guess Dr. Diehl is looking to built the house 00:18:40.82\00:18:43.59 in the Black Hills... 00:18:43.62\00:18:44.99 So, I mean so, they are really doing great 00:18:45.02\00:18:47.49 and we are real thrilled for what's happening to them. 00:18:47.52\00:18:50.56 And so, God put me with the woman 00:18:50.59\00:18:53.56 who is obsessed with moving to Arizona, 00:18:53.60\00:18:55.83 and because I might not have ever done it otherwise 00:18:55.86\00:18:57.83 and so, we actually had our house on the market 00:18:57.87\00:18:59.70 for couple of years 00:18:59.73\00:19:01.07 and we didn't have it easy to sell our house. 00:19:01.10\00:19:03.07 And I said, "Lisa, 00:19:03.10\00:19:04.67 when the time comes God will move." 00:19:04.71\00:19:07.28 And so Jay and I were talking, we launched Optimize 4 life 00:19:07.31\00:19:11.41 with the idea that and then we're talking 00:19:11.45\00:19:13.75 about the fact in order for this to really work, 00:19:13.78\00:19:16.08 we need to be in closer proximity. 00:19:16.12\00:19:18.39 And so Lisa and I was searching all over the Arizona area, 00:19:18.42\00:19:23.19 all around Phoenix, Wickenburg, New River, 00:19:23.22\00:19:26.03 and we started moving up further close to Flagstaff, 00:19:26.06\00:19:28.73 but Flagstaff was still too cold 00:19:28.76\00:19:30.13 'cause he is at 7000 feet. 00:19:30.17\00:19:32.23 So we finally came upon Camp Verde 00:19:32.27\00:19:36.07 and when it got right down to it, 00:19:36.10\00:19:38.11 virtually at the perfect time we sold our house. 00:19:38.14\00:19:42.74 And so we came to Camp Verde to try and find something, 00:19:42.78\00:19:45.98 we put an offer on the house 00:19:46.01\00:19:47.88 but I didn't feel comfortable with it, 00:19:47.92\00:19:49.75 we got back to the Black Hills, 00:19:49.78\00:19:52.35 I went on Zillow and I found a house. 00:19:52.39\00:19:56.26 And Lisa was buying groceries 00:19:56.29\00:19:57.76 and she came back to her business, 00:19:57.79\00:19:59.13 I ran out and I said, "Lisa, you got to look at this house." 00:19:59.16\00:20:01.60 She looked at it, it was perfect. 00:20:01.63\00:20:03.30 It came on the market the day we left. 00:20:03.33\00:20:05.60 And so I called the agent cancelled the other one, 00:20:05.63\00:20:07.94 let's buy this one. 00:20:07.97\00:20:09.70 So we called our eleventh our miracle house. 00:20:09.74\00:20:12.44 And so we came to Camp Verde but originally we were going 00:20:12.47\00:20:15.01 to sell our business from Rapid City. 00:20:15.04\00:20:16.44 We have two different people who want to buy it. 00:20:16.48\00:20:18.61 When we came to Camp Verde, we found the place, 00:20:18.65\00:20:20.45 we go, this would be perfect. 00:20:20.48\00:20:22.65 So then we started thinking, well, maybe God wants us 00:20:22.68\00:20:24.69 to bring our business to Camp Verde. 00:20:24.72\00:20:27.26 And we did, and wow. 00:20:27.29\00:20:29.72 We're just blown away with the incredible ministry 00:20:29.76\00:20:33.66 that the God is giving us in health. 00:20:33.70\00:20:36.16 And even the mayor and the marshal 00:20:36.20\00:20:38.43 of the town over there, and I was talking to the mayor, 00:20:38.47\00:20:41.04 and we were talking about how God brought us here. 00:20:41.07\00:20:43.44 Some people ask you, 00:20:43.47\00:20:44.81 "What brought you to Camp Verde?" 00:20:44.84\00:20:46.17 I said God. That's the short version. 00:20:46.21\00:20:47.54 If you want longer version, I can tell you 00:20:47.58\00:20:48.91 the longer version of it. 00:20:48.94\00:20:50.28 But I told the mayor that that's what brought us here 00:20:50.31\00:20:52.81 and he goes, I have a similar story 00:20:52.85\00:20:55.02 because I was sitting there criticizing Camp Verde, 00:20:55.05\00:20:58.59 and then he said, God said to me, 00:20:58.62\00:21:01.42 "Jonah, get out of my native bush." 00:21:01.46\00:21:04.39 And then he realized that I'm just sitting 00:21:04.43\00:21:06.90 and complaining about the people 00:21:06.93\00:21:08.76 that I could be helping and so, 00:21:08.80\00:21:10.50 and so just story after story like that 00:21:10.53\00:21:12.10 and people talking about, 00:21:12.13\00:21:14.54 we're still thankful God brought you here, 00:21:14.57\00:21:16.54 you know, people who have been hurting, 00:21:16.57\00:21:18.27 people would have given up hope. 00:21:18.31\00:21:19.64 We had a... 00:21:19.67\00:21:21.01 We had one woman with fibromyalgia and mold, 00:21:21.04\00:21:22.38 and she had... 00:21:22.41\00:21:24.75 The thing you get from tics Lyme disease 00:21:24.78\00:21:27.15 and she was just a mess, bed ridden. 00:21:27.18\00:21:29.85 Now, she is up moving... 00:21:29.88\00:21:31.22 She and her husband were both going, 00:21:31.25\00:21:33.79 we just praise the Lord that you're here. 00:21:33.82\00:21:35.66 But the nice thing is we're only 40 minutes away 00:21:35.69\00:21:37.83 door to door, and so we actually did this, 00:21:37.86\00:21:41.80 launch this Optimize 4 Life program in Camp Verde 00:21:41.83\00:21:46.00 to try it out to see how it's going. 00:21:46.03\00:21:48.17 People loved it... Okay. 00:21:48.20\00:21:49.54 And let's put the pause on for just a second 'cause... 00:21:49.57\00:21:52.31 Let me tell you one more thing. 00:21:52.34\00:21:53.68 Well hang on, no, no, I'm coming right back to you... 00:21:53.71\00:21:55.91 I just want you to explain something 00:21:55.94\00:21:57.35 because the new series is going to be called Optimize 4 Life, 00:21:57.38\00:22:01.38 but we've actually adopted a title of the program 00:22:01.42\00:22:06.52 that they are running, so that's what, 00:22:06.55\00:22:08.32 let's call what's on 3ABN this series, 00:22:08.36\00:22:12.06 but now explain the Optimize 4 Life program 00:22:12.09\00:22:15.16 that you are running? 00:22:15.20\00:22:16.53 Well, the Optimize 4 Life program 00:22:16.56\00:22:17.90 is what Jay was talking about, 00:22:17.93\00:22:19.27 we are taking systems of the body, 00:22:19.30\00:22:21.04 and we've taken a step-by-step approach. 00:22:21.07\00:22:22.94 But we also realized that once you give people education, 00:22:22.97\00:22:26.41 you have to also empower them with ability to move forward. 00:22:26.44\00:22:29.41 It's just like you can study the Bible, 00:22:29.44\00:22:31.75 but you still have to know how to apply to your life 00:22:31.78\00:22:33.85 and move forward. 00:22:33.88\00:22:35.22 And so that's what we are trying to do. 00:22:35.25\00:22:36.85 And so he hits it from the nutritional standpoint, 00:22:36.89\00:22:41.16 I hit it from the fitness standpoint 00:22:41.19\00:22:43.12 but yet we both have the ability 00:22:43.16\00:22:44.63 to overlap into each other's areas. 00:22:44.66\00:22:47.40 In fact after we did this series, 00:22:47.43\00:22:49.40 a lot of people were saying, "We knew he was smart 00:22:49.43\00:22:51.57 but we didn't know you knew anything except for exercise." 00:22:51.60\00:22:54.50 So when you said you did the series, 00:22:54.54\00:22:55.87 where did you do it? 00:22:55.90\00:22:57.24 We did in Camp Verde, we did our Fit-in-15 there. 00:22:57.27\00:23:00.18 And we just didn't even advertised 00:23:00.21\00:23:01.94 really except put a little sign up 00:23:01.98\00:23:03.31 and people were coming and they were just excited. 00:23:03.35\00:23:07.92 Jay, you see there's the massive potential 00:23:07.95\00:23:09.55 you follow up if you want to 'cause people were just, 00:23:09.58\00:23:12.12 they were just clamming for more information, 00:23:12.15\00:23:14.12 they look so excited. 00:23:14.16\00:23:15.49 One of our client said, "I could have sat down 00:23:15.52\00:23:17.39 and listen to your guys all day." 00:23:17.43\00:23:18.76 Because again we just play off each other very nicely 00:23:18.79\00:23:21.00 and they like the information they're hearing, 00:23:21.03\00:23:22.90 but we want to take it another step 00:23:22.93\00:23:24.70 and that's why taking people step by step 00:23:24.73\00:23:26.84 of how to implement exercise into the life. 00:23:26.87\00:23:29.24 How to change your dietary pattern, 00:23:29.27\00:23:31.37 you know where to start eating, where to go with that. 00:23:31.41\00:23:33.91 So people can go, okay I can do this. 00:23:33.94\00:23:35.58 It's not overwhelming, 00:23:35.61\00:23:37.11 it's not like taking it from 0-50, 00:23:37.15\00:23:40.38 I can start out gradually and put my way up 00:23:40.42\00:23:42.48 to what you're talking about. 00:23:42.52\00:23:43.85 And, you know, I think that's... 00:23:43.89\00:23:45.22 I love that aspect of it because now going 00:23:45.25\00:23:48.16 to the Black Hills can be life changing 00:23:48.19\00:23:50.36 and I know that, we went there, my husband had had, 00:23:50.39\00:23:54.16 JD had septicemia and he had surgery on his knees 00:23:54.20\00:23:59.03 and he was just barely walking when he got there in, 00:23:59.07\00:24:02.97 and within 10 days he was like a new man. 00:24:03.00\00:24:05.61 So it is a life changing thing but you get so much at one time 00:24:05.64\00:24:10.65 that when you leave, 00:24:10.68\00:24:12.01 some of that just kind of filters through your mind. 00:24:12.05\00:24:15.02 What I love about the program the way you're going 00:24:15.05\00:24:17.62 to be doing it on 3ABN is you get this principle, 00:24:17.65\00:24:21.39 let's put this into practice. 00:24:21.42\00:24:23.19 Let's put this fitness principle, 00:24:23.22\00:24:25.29 this nutrition principle into practice this week, 00:24:25.33\00:24:29.76 then the following week, you're building on that, 00:24:29.80\00:24:32.03 so it gives people some time 00:24:32.07\00:24:34.84 to really get their legs under them if you will. 00:24:34.87\00:24:39.41 So are you all going to... 00:24:39.44\00:24:42.54 when you do this, lecture program 00:24:42.58\00:24:46.75 that you do outside of 3ABN, 00:24:46.78\00:24:49.08 do you have materials workbooks, 00:24:49.12\00:24:50.99 what do you have to, to help people? 00:24:51.02\00:24:53.49 Yeah, we are working on that right now. 00:24:53.52\00:24:55.22 We're gonna put together a manual, 00:24:55.26\00:24:57.39 our workbook that people can go through. 00:24:57.43\00:24:59.29 We also have a cookbook. 00:24:59.33\00:25:00.76 My wife and I've had two vegetarian restaurants 00:25:00.80\00:25:03.60 through our marriage. 00:25:03.63\00:25:04.97 We started out as business partners. 00:25:05.00\00:25:06.53 So we started out a restaurant, health food store. 00:25:06.57\00:25:09.07 And then we ran that for a while 00:25:09.10\00:25:10.44 and then we went to the Black Hills, 00:25:10.47\00:25:11.81 then we took over an existing restaurant, 00:25:11.84\00:25:13.74 health food stores, so we have years of experience 00:25:13.78\00:25:16.01 of dealing with people 00:25:16.04\00:25:17.38 who may have different palate... 00:25:17.41\00:25:19.18 And so we have restaurant tested recipes, 00:25:19.21\00:25:21.48 we're gonna put together in our manuals as well. 00:25:21.52\00:25:24.12 And so we can actually coach people through the process. 00:25:24.15\00:25:27.49 Now your wife Chloe that each one of the programs 00:25:27.52\00:25:31.46 on this new series Optimize 4 Life is, 00:25:31.49\00:25:37.10 has a cooking segment and your wife Chloe 00:25:37.13\00:25:39.47 does that cooking segment. 00:25:39.50\00:25:41.40 She is also very experienced in the nutrition field, right? 00:25:41.44\00:25:45.47 That's correct, and she deals more 00:25:45.51\00:25:47.28 from the food preparation standpoint, 00:25:47.31\00:25:49.61 doesn't really deal so much with the health, 00:25:49.64\00:25:51.51 so we kind of complement each other as well. 00:25:51.55\00:25:53.11 I do more of the scientific and that type of thing 00:25:53.15\00:25:56.08 and she does the application. 00:25:56.12\00:25:57.62 Where, I'm pretty good with the kitchen too 00:25:57.65\00:26:00.12 but we kind of leave that to her. 00:26:00.16\00:26:01.96 And then she puts it together and show some simple steps 00:26:01.99\00:26:05.69 that people can apply to their lifestyle. 00:26:05.73\00:26:08.13 You know, Jay, I married my business partner too. 00:26:08.16\00:26:10.17 Oh, that's just great. 00:26:10.20\00:26:11.53 Actually we dated for six months 00:26:11.57\00:26:13.60 and I told my mother, I wouldn't marry him 00:26:13.64\00:26:15.24 if he is the last man on earth 00:26:15.27\00:26:16.77 and you know what, she said oh-oh, that's the one. 00:26:16.81\00:26:19.61 And then we became business partners 00:26:19.64\00:26:21.64 about a year later, 00:26:21.68\00:26:23.01 we were partners for couple of years 00:26:23.04\00:26:24.45 before we married, so she was right. 00:26:24.48\00:26:26.82 Like to inject something Chloe actually taught 00:26:26.85\00:26:28.85 the cooking labs at the Black Hills 00:26:28.88\00:26:30.29 Health and Education Center for a while. 00:26:30.32\00:26:32.09 And she is a fantastic cook. 00:26:32.12\00:26:34.52 And one of the thing I want to interject about 00:26:34.56\00:26:35.89 what you talk about being at the center, 00:26:35.92\00:26:37.69 the thing with the center is we spoon feed you there... 00:26:37.73\00:26:41.23 We tell you when to get up, we tell you when to exercise. 00:26:41.26\00:26:43.83 Oh, boy, do you. 00:26:43.87\00:26:45.43 We tell you when to eat, what to eat. 00:26:45.47\00:26:47.14 You have no control of your life, 00:26:47.17\00:26:48.87 you know, this is when you have a massage, 00:26:48.90\00:26:50.51 this is when you have a hydrotherapy, 00:26:50.54\00:26:51.87 this is when you're exercising, but then when people leave, 00:26:51.91\00:26:54.98 then they have to do it on their own... 00:26:55.01\00:26:56.41 Right. 00:26:56.44\00:26:57.78 And unfortunately, and you know 00:26:57.81\00:26:59.28 this in human nature especially, 00:26:59.31\00:27:00.65 you know, spiritually somebody falls 00:27:00.68\00:27:03.28 or they fall back, they go well, 00:27:03.32\00:27:05.82 you know, I tried but... 00:27:05.85\00:27:08.66 And they start just slipping back further and further 00:27:08.69\00:27:10.46 into their old routine, and it's really sad 00:27:10.49\00:27:12.53 because you see people getting off all sorts of medications, 00:27:12.56\00:27:14.93 and so and so forth, they are now, 00:27:14.96\00:27:18.03 their blood sugar is no more, the blood pressure is normal. 00:27:18.07\00:27:20.14 They go back home, they go back to their old lifestyle 00:27:20.17\00:27:22.70 and on the whole that happens again. 00:27:22.74\00:27:24.44 So we're trying to help people avoid that 00:27:24.47\00:27:26.47 by taking up a step by step approach. 00:27:26.51\00:27:28.41 I'm really excited about this, but now you brought up 00:27:28.44\00:27:31.15 something interesting because blood sugar, 00:27:31.18\00:27:33.62 it seems, Jay, that more and more people 00:27:33.65\00:27:37.39 with whom I speak over the phone 00:27:37.42\00:27:39.29 or when we're out and meeting more and more people 00:27:39.32\00:27:43.46 are facing diabetes or they are pre-diabetic. 00:27:43.49\00:27:47.16 And I actually had a phone call 00:27:47.20\00:27:48.53 from my brother-in-law last night 00:27:48.56\00:27:50.97 and he is saying, hey I just got my 00:27:51.00\00:27:53.57 test results back on my blood work, 00:27:53.60\00:27:56.10 and he said, my doctor had said, 00:27:56.14\00:27:58.37 "This is it, you know, you moved over into diabetes." 00:27:58.41\00:28:01.81 So what would you tell someone who is watching right now, 00:28:01.84\00:28:05.41 if they just learned they are diabetic. 00:28:05.45\00:28:07.48 What kinds of food should they avoid, 00:28:07.52\00:28:09.68 what kind of foods should they perhaps be focusing on? 00:28:09.72\00:28:14.72 Interesting, the idea behind diabetes 00:28:14.76\00:28:17.09 is really we have never seen, 00:28:17.13\00:28:18.56 the lifestyles that we're living now in history, 00:28:18.59\00:28:21.33 and so what we're finding as people are using 00:28:21.36\00:28:23.23 more and more refined foods 00:28:23.26\00:28:25.10 and so are eating more and more processed foods. 00:28:25.13\00:28:27.54 If we can cut and back that off and start moving towards food 00:28:27.57\00:28:30.81 from nature as grown, straight from nature 00:28:30.84\00:28:33.38 and so we find that as we process the foods, 00:28:33.41\00:28:35.34 the body doesn't know 00:28:35.38\00:28:36.71 how to handle the load of calories 00:28:36.75\00:28:38.68 that we put in our bodies with the processed foods. 00:28:38.71\00:28:42.85 And I think one of the biggest culprit 00:28:42.88\00:28:44.55 is we're drinking a lot of liquid calories. 00:28:44.59\00:28:47.49 And so, when you see that onslaught of the foods 00:28:47.52\00:28:50.43 coming in a liquid form. 00:28:50.46\00:28:52.09 And when you say that, 00:28:52.13\00:28:53.46 we're talking about like soda pops, 00:28:53.50\00:28:55.73 well, that's an old fashioned thing for it. 00:28:55.76\00:28:58.07 But what do you call them, 00:28:58.10\00:28:59.90 soft drinks I guess, you know sodas. 00:28:59.93\00:29:02.77 But also it's not all, you know, 00:29:02.80\00:29:05.47 some people think if you're drinking fruit juice, 00:29:05.51\00:29:08.11 that you're just fine, but you're getting 00:29:08.14\00:29:09.91 a whole lot of calories without the fiber 00:29:09.94\00:29:11.78 and you're probably getting 00:29:11.81\00:29:13.15 a lot more calories in sugars than you think. 00:29:13.18\00:29:15.88 That's right, and I always find it interesting too 00:29:15.92\00:29:18.02 so that people switch over to Gatorade 00:29:18.05\00:29:19.49 because that's a sports drink. 00:29:19.52\00:29:21.32 And most people I see checking out at grocery stores 00:29:21.36\00:29:23.73 with their cases of sports drink, 00:29:23.76\00:29:25.49 don't look like they'd been 00:29:25.53\00:29:26.86 doing any sports any time recently. 00:29:26.90\00:29:29.03 And so really there is a activity component to that, 00:29:29.06\00:29:31.83 yeah, there is a place for liquid calories, 00:29:31.87\00:29:33.90 but it's not on ongoing daily basis 00:29:33.94\00:29:36.10 with too many concentrated calories is the idea. 00:29:36.14\00:29:39.37 And so the concept that we work with the nutrition is, 00:29:39.41\00:29:42.14 is a lot of times with investments, 00:29:42.18\00:29:43.88 and as we get closer to retirement 00:29:43.91\00:29:45.41 where I was looking for the return on investment 00:29:45.45\00:29:47.32 where we invest in things. 00:29:47.35\00:29:48.82 When you look at your food, 00:29:48.85\00:29:50.19 what kind of return and investment are you getting? 00:29:50.22\00:29:52.35 And so we always try to say, how many nutrients 00:29:52.39\00:29:54.16 are you getting per bit of food, 00:29:54.19\00:29:56.12 kind of the principle we work with. 00:29:56.16\00:29:57.59 And so you go back closer and closer to nature 00:29:57.63\00:30:00.13 and you eat the foods as grown, unprocessed, untouched by man, 00:30:00.16\00:30:03.90 so to speak in the processing. 00:30:03.93\00:30:05.47 And since the body will process those calories differently 00:30:05.50\00:30:09.20 than the processed calories in the body. 00:30:09.24\00:30:11.37 So you're saying, if you're eating green beans 00:30:11.41\00:30:13.51 straight from the garden, 00:30:13.54\00:30:14.88 you're gonna be getting a lot more nutrition 00:30:14.91\00:30:16.85 and it's going to be processed differently, 00:30:16.88\00:30:18.98 than if you're eating green beans out of the can, 00:30:19.01\00:30:21.45 or you going a little step further 00:30:21.48\00:30:23.12 where there is more processing. 00:30:23.15\00:30:24.79 The frozen and the can is fine... 00:30:24.82\00:30:26.29 Okay. 00:30:26.32\00:30:27.66 To an extent, but yeah, taking it right from nature, 00:30:27.69\00:30:29.46 if you don't have that available, 00:30:29.49\00:30:30.83 sometimes frozen is actually 00:30:30.86\00:30:32.73 just as nutritious as the fresh. 00:30:32.76\00:30:35.16 But when you take that and then process 00:30:35.20\00:30:36.87 that into other foods components. 00:30:36.90\00:30:39.10 What do you call soybean, atta edamame. 00:30:39.13\00:30:41.57 Yeah. Okay, it's interesting... 00:30:41.60\00:30:44.44 'Cause I can eat those and tolerate those, 00:30:44.47\00:30:46.84 but I'm extremely allergic to soy, 00:30:46.88\00:30:50.38 and if I eat processed soy, if I'm just eating tofu 00:30:50.41\00:30:53.98 or something like this, I'm a mess. 00:30:54.02\00:30:56.58 So even, even healthy things that have been highly processed 00:30:56.62\00:31:01.66 can create problems, is that correct? 00:31:01.69\00:31:03.39 Absolutely, in the sense, that's what we look at to 00:31:03.43\00:31:05.73 is you take that soybean right from the field 00:31:05.76\00:31:07.90 and you cook it and add edamame or however you do it. 00:31:07.93\00:31:11.53 And if you take it then and process 00:31:11.57\00:31:12.90 and making into tofu 00:31:12.93\00:31:14.40 and soymilk and things like that, 00:31:14.44\00:31:16.07 small amounts of those are probably fine, 00:31:16.10\00:31:18.47 but you're still better off getting the majority 00:31:18.51\00:31:20.14 of your food as grown. 00:31:20.18\00:31:21.51 Right. Okay, okay. 00:31:21.54\00:31:23.21 Well, it sounds like this is gonna be 00:31:23.24\00:31:24.88 an exciting program. 00:31:24.91\00:31:26.38 What... 00:31:26.41\00:31:28.08 Dick, kind of... 00:31:28.12\00:31:30.29 I know every one knows you but kind of let's back up 00:31:30.32\00:31:34.26 and maybe not everyone has heard your testimony 00:31:34.29\00:31:37.59 because you weren't always as healthy as you are today. 00:31:37.63\00:31:41.76 Tell us a little about 00:31:41.80\00:31:43.67 how you got interested in health. 00:31:43.70\00:31:47.10 Well, when I was growing up, I was six foot, 00:31:47.14\00:31:50.34 120 pounds at the age of 12. 00:31:50.37\00:31:53.04 And my diet was absolutely atrocious. 00:31:53.07\00:31:55.84 My mother go to the grocery store every week 00:31:55.88\00:31:58.01 and buy a one pound Hershey bar, 00:31:58.05\00:31:59.85 one pound of Nestle crunch bar, 00:31:59.88\00:32:01.22 and a bag of Trix cereal pops, and I'd eat it all on Friday. 00:32:01.25\00:32:04.22 I had to go to the dentist and I had 12 cavities, 00:32:04.25\00:32:07.56 and some of those cavities were so bad that later on life 00:32:07.59\00:32:10.66 you start to have secondary problems, 00:32:10.69\00:32:12.66 you have to get root canals and crowns and so and so forth. 00:32:12.69\00:32:15.36 And what you hear now, 00:32:15.40\00:32:16.73 isn't that good of a thing to do anyway. 00:32:16.77\00:32:18.60 So then as life went on, I got into high school 00:32:18.63\00:32:21.24 and I was a terrible eater. 00:32:21.27\00:32:22.77 Typical meal was pan cake with butter and syrup, 00:32:22.80\00:32:24.97 two fried eggs, two glasses of milk for breakfast, 00:32:25.01\00:32:27.58 jam sandwich and a white bread with butter, 00:32:27.61\00:32:29.44 two twinkies, two ding dongs 00:32:29.48\00:32:30.81 and two things of chocolate milk for lunch, 00:32:30.85\00:32:32.81 hamburger, French fries, and milk shake for dinner, 00:32:32.85\00:32:34.98 I had no healthy nutritional habits at all, 00:32:35.02\00:32:38.22 but yet I still weighed, you know 225, 235 00:32:38.25\00:32:40.96 and I was a senior in high school 00:32:40.99\00:32:42.49 and was bench pressing 365, 00:32:42.52\00:32:43.89 so I got strong beside the fact. 00:32:43.93\00:32:45.93 And then I got into college, 00:32:45.96\00:32:47.30 I got involved with body building 00:32:47.33\00:32:48.86 and I start eating three pounds a meat, 00:32:48.90\00:32:51.43 a gallon of milk, half dozen eggs every day, 00:32:51.47\00:32:53.44 10,000 calories a day, 00:32:53.47\00:32:54.97 eating seven times a day, it was a mess. 00:32:55.00\00:32:57.71 You know I was... 00:32:57.74\00:32:59.07 Your heart attacking waiting to happen, were it? 00:32:59.11\00:33:00.51 My cholesterol level was high, I had hypertension. 00:33:00.54\00:33:03.08 I started losing my hair, so many different things 00:33:03.11\00:33:06.55 were happening, my immune system was shot, 00:33:06.58\00:33:08.08 if I got hurt, I always have to worry about 00:33:08.12\00:33:10.05 secondary infection, I had a staph infection, 00:33:10.09\00:33:12.52 strep infection in my throat at the same time, 00:33:12.55\00:33:14.66 couldn't talk for two weeks, 00:33:14.69\00:33:16.02 but I was so quiet back then, I took a week by it now. 00:33:16.06\00:33:18.63 So my roommate find, he goes, you have a sore throat? 00:33:18.66\00:33:22.13 But as time went on, I got involved 00:33:22.16\00:33:24.63 with the Adventist church, 00:33:24.67\00:33:26.30 and then I started taking the next step, 00:33:26.33\00:33:30.11 you know, 'cause the health message is there. 00:33:30.14\00:33:32.44 unfortunately not everybody embraces 00:33:32.47\00:33:34.28 like we wish they would. 00:33:34.31\00:33:35.84 But I start listen to speakers like from Weimar, 00:33:35.88\00:33:39.18 Dr. Lee, Dr Dee, 00:33:39.21\00:33:40.65 and so many of this people had a lot to do 00:33:40.68\00:33:42.72 with bringing me forward 00:33:42.75\00:33:44.72 and then when Jay and I got together, 00:33:44.75\00:33:47.19 we kind of gone on this journey together, 00:33:47.22\00:33:48.96 even though we have been out together in a part, 00:33:48.99\00:33:51.53 but we kind of melted our thought processes. 00:33:51.56\00:33:55.90 we looked forward going 00:33:55.93\00:33:57.27 to this nutrient dense type diet. 00:33:57.30\00:33:59.53 And that's how I made, 00:33:59.57\00:34:00.90 you know, big transformation in my life, 00:34:00.94\00:34:02.50 when I starting focusing on the cleansing aspect 00:34:02.54\00:34:05.01 'cause I was running around at 270-280 pounds, 00:34:05.04\00:34:07.44 in fact a lot of previous Body and Spirit shows, 00:34:07.48\00:34:09.98 I'm much larger than I'm right now, 00:34:10.01\00:34:12.61 but I don't need to carry that weight especially at my age. 00:34:12.65\00:34:15.68 And I started eating this more nutrient dense food 00:34:15.72\00:34:18.65 and Lisa calls it my gorilla salad 00:34:18.69\00:34:20.66 because it's huge. 00:34:20.69\00:34:22.56 But I started eating that way 00:34:22.59\00:34:24.39 and you still maintain the strength 00:34:24.43\00:34:26.43 and the muscle size, 00:34:26.46\00:34:27.83 but yet the excess fluff is gone, 00:34:27.86\00:34:30.23 and you just feel amazing. 00:34:30.27\00:34:32.37 So it's been quite a journey. 00:34:32.40\00:34:33.97 And so the thing I tried to do 00:34:34.00\00:34:36.17 is use the blessings God has give me 00:34:36.20\00:34:38.57 because lot of times people think 00:34:38.61\00:34:39.94 if you become a total vegetarian diet 00:34:39.97\00:34:42.28 or what people use vegan, 00:34:42.31\00:34:44.15 that term people, they think you're gonna be emaciated, 00:34:44.18\00:34:46.72 think you will be very scrawny and so and so forth, 00:34:46.75\00:34:49.35 so I try and use what God has blessed me 00:34:49.38\00:34:51.05 with to show that, no, you can eat this diet 00:34:51.09\00:34:53.62 and still be muscular, you can still feel good, 00:34:53.66\00:34:56.16 and God impressed me several years ago 00:34:56.19\00:34:59.46 to get in the best shape of my life, 00:34:59.49\00:35:00.83 because he goes, I have something for you. 00:35:00.86\00:35:03.23 And I thought well, why didn't you asked me 00:35:03.26\00:35:05.10 to do this at 30, don't ask me to do at 60. 00:35:05.13\00:35:07.74 And it was like, well, 00:35:07.77\00:35:09.10 anybody can do at 30, do it at 60 00:35:09.14\00:35:10.47 and then you have something to talk about. 00:35:10.51\00:35:12.07 And so off we go. 00:35:12.11\00:35:14.34 You know, I will never forget, is it Dr, Blauer... 00:35:14.38\00:35:19.01 Dr Bee, yeah. Dr. Bea. 00:35:19.05\00:35:21.18 When we first came to Black Hills 00:35:21.22\00:35:24.75 Health and Education Center, 00:35:24.79\00:35:26.49 and what was Dr. Blauer then about 70... 00:35:26.52\00:35:29.66 75... 75... 00:35:29.69\00:35:31.03 I thought I was gonna say 74-75. 00:35:31.06\00:35:33.29 And here is the 75 year old man who goes up, 00:35:33.33\00:35:36.40 and as a demonstration, Dick calls him up 00:35:36.43\00:35:39.37 and he gets down on the floor 00:35:39.40\00:35:40.74 and he is doing all this one arm pushups 00:35:40.77\00:35:42.84 and he was just like you got to be kidding me. 00:35:42.87\00:35:46.57 So... Let me tell about Dr. Bea. 00:35:46.61\00:35:49.21 He started working out at 73... 00:35:49.24\00:35:52.05 And he was an ER doc and you said 00:35:52.08\00:35:55.55 he was in the shape of a 73 old flabby ER doc. 00:35:55.58\00:36:00.29 He can do two push-ups, no pull-ups, 00:36:00.32\00:36:02.79 had never really worked out. 00:36:02.82\00:36:04.33 By the time you met him two years later, 00:36:04.36\00:36:06.06 he could do 80 pushups, 20 pull-ups. 00:36:06.09\00:36:09.56 We actually had him working out for bench press competition 00:36:09.60\00:36:12.93 because in his age category 75 and above, 00:36:12.97\00:36:16.50 he was now bench pressing 185, and Dr. Bea is not a big man, 00:36:16.54\00:36:21.34 but we would have... 00:36:21.38\00:36:22.91 He would have been world class in the bench press. 00:36:22.94\00:36:25.41 When we came back to Rapid City and before I left, 00:36:25.45\00:36:28.78 Dr. Bea was still working out with this at the age of 83, 00:36:28.82\00:36:32.05 and still doing great. 00:36:32.09\00:36:33.42 Yeah, praise God. 00:36:33.46\00:36:34.79 Well, we'll just give a shout out to everybody 00:36:34.82\00:36:36.16 at Black Hills Health and Education especially, 00:36:36.19\00:36:38.76 Dr. Bea and his wife. 00:36:38.79\00:36:40.53 So this new series which is, if you're seeing this program, 00:36:40.56\00:36:44.77 you look, check for your schedule 00:36:44.80\00:36:46.40 because it will be in the schedule. 00:36:46.43\00:36:48.74 And it is... 00:36:48.77\00:36:50.71 Can you give us maybe like a little outline of topics 00:36:50.74\00:36:54.78 how are you doing for Optimize 4 Life? 00:36:54.81\00:36:58.75 Well, the first thing we're gonna do is talk about 00:36:58.78\00:37:00.12 how you can prepare because a lot of time 00:37:00.15\00:37:02.58 peoples are motivated to make a change, 00:37:02.62\00:37:05.15 and if they don't in the sense prepare for that, 00:37:05.19\00:37:08.69 there are some pitfalls. 00:37:08.72\00:37:10.06 We all know about getting in ditches, 00:37:10.09\00:37:11.53 and lot of time we go in unprepared, 00:37:11.56\00:37:13.29 so we'll talk about how to set up your kitchen, 00:37:13.33\00:37:15.36 how to set up your schedule 00:37:15.40\00:37:16.73 for fitness and things like that. 00:37:16.77\00:37:18.30 Then we'll go into a program 00:37:18.33\00:37:20.27 where we just talk about fitness. 00:37:20.30\00:37:22.14 Designing your own personalized fitness program 00:37:22.17\00:37:24.64 and then the next segment will be about 00:37:24.67\00:37:26.14 how to set up your own personalized nutrition program, 00:37:26.17\00:37:28.58 how to set your kitchen up. 00:37:28.61\00:37:30.18 What kind of appliances would you like to get. 00:37:30.21\00:37:33.31 What are the basics, and what are fluff machines 00:37:33.35\00:37:36.38 'cause we all have different juicers 00:37:36.42\00:37:38.02 and all this different things with the bare bones, 00:37:38.05\00:37:40.32 and then we start going into your sleep cycles, 00:37:40.36\00:37:42.76 and then we'll start looking at the musculoskeletal system, 00:37:42.79\00:37:45.89 the neurological system, and things like that, 00:37:45.93\00:37:47.90 but it's not gonna be high fluent words 00:37:47.93\00:37:50.67 and things like that, 00:37:50.70\00:37:52.03 it will be very, very practical. 00:37:52.07\00:37:53.40 Amen. Amen. 00:37:53.44\00:37:54.77 I'm really looking forward to this 'cause I'm sure, 00:37:54.80\00:37:56.37 I'm gonna learn something too. 00:37:56.40\00:37:58.77 I will tell you, you know you were talking about 00:37:58.81\00:38:00.84 soft drinks while ago. 00:38:00.88\00:38:02.74 I gave up soft drinks 13, 14 years ago I suppose, 00:38:02.78\00:38:07.35 actually before I came into the Adventist church, but... 00:38:07.38\00:38:10.55 It would have been 14 years, so 15 years ago 00:38:12.42\00:38:14.72 before I came into the Adventist church. 00:38:14.76\00:38:16.56 And you know, I was never a water drinker, 00:38:16.59\00:38:19.76 but once you... 00:38:19.79\00:38:21.13 All I do now is drink water with lemon, 00:38:21.16\00:38:22.86 and once you have made that change 00:38:22.90\00:38:25.90 you think, ah, ha, I like water. 00:38:25.93\00:38:27.87 But once you made that change, 00:38:27.90\00:38:29.24 your body craves and I cannot stand the taste, 00:38:29.27\00:38:32.21 maybe once a year I'll have a root beer, 00:38:32.24\00:38:34.28 but I don't like the taste of soft drinks, 00:38:34.31\00:38:36.21 they have a kind of a acrid kind of a taste to them. 00:38:36.24\00:38:41.48 But I was working on a sermon for the health message 00:38:41.52\00:38:46.35 sitting there with a bottle of water next to me 00:38:46.39\00:38:48.22 and I wasn't drinking it till somebody, 00:38:48.26\00:38:49.99 one of my dear friends 00:38:50.03\00:38:51.36 who is my water angel texted me and said "thirsty" 00:38:51.39\00:38:54.83 'cause she knows I'm hyper focus. 00:38:54.86\00:38:56.60 So we all need to be brought to a count is my point is that, 00:38:56.63\00:39:01.67 it doesn't matter how long you've been in the church 00:39:01.70\00:39:04.54 and heard the health message 00:39:04.57\00:39:05.91 or if you've never heard the health message. 00:39:05.94\00:39:07.91 As you said, Dick, not all of us are applying it 00:39:07.94\00:39:10.81 the way we should 00:39:10.85\00:39:12.18 and we are suffering because of it, right? 00:39:12.21\00:39:13.82 Correct, and the thing with pop, 00:39:13.85\00:39:15.55 is one glass of pop will take 32 glasses 00:39:15.58\00:39:18.45 of regular water to neutralize 00:39:18.49\00:39:20.09 the acidic effect of that pop... 00:39:20.12\00:39:21.82 Oh my goodness. 00:39:21.86\00:39:23.19 And so people think they're drinking that 00:39:23.22\00:39:24.96 to get fluids in our body or drinking coffee 00:39:24.99\00:39:27.83 or things like that and what they don't realize 00:39:27.86\00:39:29.96 is actually dehydrating themselves 00:39:30.00\00:39:32.17 creating a greater need for more healthy fluid. 00:39:32.20\00:39:35.10 Now I know you were dehydrating yourself with caffeine, 00:39:35.14\00:39:39.01 but are you saying that 00:39:39.04\00:39:40.38 when you say to get the acid out, 00:39:40.41\00:39:41.74 does it actually dehydrate you when you're drinking pop. 00:39:41.78\00:39:44.05 Well, it just takes more fluid 00:39:44.08\00:39:45.41 because, the body needs to be in a proper alkaline base... 00:39:45.45\00:39:48.32 So it's hurting your kidneys... 00:39:48.35\00:39:49.82 Oh, absolutely... It's hurting your organs. 00:39:49.85\00:39:51.92 Disease grows in an acidic state, 00:39:51.95\00:39:53.99 it doesn't grow on in alkaline state. 00:39:54.02\00:39:55.36 I always heard cancer grow in that... 00:39:55.39\00:39:57.53 And then, you know, people have a lot of yeast in their body, 00:39:57.56\00:39:59.49 they don't understand that. 00:39:59.53\00:40:00.96 And the thing yeast loves more than anything else is sugar 00:40:01.00\00:40:04.93 and if you're not giving it a refine sugar, 00:40:04.97\00:40:06.87 it can go after honey, maple syrup 00:40:06.90\00:40:10.51 and then even if you didn't given that 00:40:10.54\00:40:11.87 they can go after fruit 00:40:11.91\00:40:13.24 and especially like Jay was saying, 00:40:13.27\00:40:14.61 if you're taking a lot of fruit juices 00:40:14.64\00:40:15.98 the yeast can go okay, I will use that. 00:40:16.01\00:40:18.21 So we need to get the nutrient dense foods 00:40:18.25\00:40:20.62 to get the body more in a proper ph balance, 00:40:20.65\00:40:24.75 and that's what when Jay is talking about the kale 00:40:24.79\00:40:27.09 and this broccoli all those super foods, 00:40:27.12\00:40:29.52 that's what does it. 00:40:29.56\00:40:31.13 And then you get your body in proper ph balance 00:40:31.16\00:40:33.03 and then you go wow... 00:40:33.06\00:40:35.86 The body is... We all want to be well... 00:40:35.90\00:40:38.13 The body is the miracle. 00:40:38.17\00:40:39.63 We just have to set up the proper environment 00:40:39.67\00:40:42.04 to allow that miracle to happen. 00:40:42.07\00:40:43.87 We know I opened by saying that 00:40:43.91\00:40:45.54 God really wants us to be in good health, 00:40:45.57\00:40:48.24 and when you think about it, he is such a loving father 00:40:48.28\00:40:53.35 and he has given us instructions 00:40:53.38\00:40:54.92 just right here in the Bible. 00:40:54.95\00:40:57.29 What we can do to be healthier 00:40:57.32\00:41:00.19 and following his health plan is really... 00:41:00.22\00:41:04.63 God knew that if we're healthy we're gonna be happier, 00:41:04.66\00:41:07.66 we're gonna have a more fulfilling life. 00:41:07.70\00:41:09.90 So, Jay, who is your target audience for this new series, 00:41:09.93\00:41:14.47 it's gonna be on 3ABN Optimize for Life. 00:41:14.50\00:41:17.34 Well, the interesting thing is, this is can be applied 00:41:17.37\00:41:20.34 to basically anybody at any phase of their lifespan. 00:41:20.38\00:41:23.75 And interesting thing is in Flagstaff, Arizona 00:41:23.78\00:41:25.98 we've created a intervention team 00:41:26.01\00:41:29.52 of professionals in our area. 00:41:29.55\00:41:30.89 We're doing six week, nine week, 00:41:30.92\00:41:32.85 and 12 week interventions, and then we collect the data... 00:41:32.89\00:41:37.36 Okay, explain that just a little bit more, 00:41:37.39\00:41:39.36 you're doing six week, nine week... 00:41:39.39\00:41:41.10 We're doing a similar community interventions, 00:41:41.13\00:41:45.47 like we're doing for Optimize 4 Life. 00:41:45.50\00:41:48.00 And we're finding people from all walks of life, 00:41:48.04\00:41:50.91 whether they are in decade or their 20s, 30s 00:41:50.94\00:41:52.94 all the way up in their 60s, and 70s. 00:41:52.97\00:41:55.51 And it's interesting that when you see people transform 00:41:55.54\00:41:58.75 their lives by applying these principles 00:41:58.78\00:42:00.15 one at a time each week, they're just being transformed, 00:42:00.18\00:42:03.79 they're getting of medications under the supervision 00:42:03.82\00:42:06.25 of their physicians and things like that, 00:42:06.29\00:42:08.09 that's what motivating to Dick and I is that this blessing 00:42:08.12\00:42:11.83 that we've been giving through scripture, 00:42:11.86\00:42:14.36 and we call it the health message. 00:42:14.40\00:42:16.33 People look at it as optional, but we're are seeing people 00:42:16.36\00:42:19.00 from secular walks of life 00:42:19.03\00:42:21.00 that suddenly they're becoming alive, 00:42:21.04\00:42:23.20 their colors back in there life, 00:42:23.24\00:42:24.91 they're mentally processing 00:42:24.94\00:42:26.78 and they become spiritually awake. 00:42:26.81\00:42:29.04 And that's so we always think too that really 00:42:29.08\00:42:30.68 that this whole health message thing, message, 00:42:30.71\00:42:34.38 and I never really understood what the health message was 00:42:34.42\00:42:36.48 when I joined the Adventist church, 00:42:36.52\00:42:37.99 because I just thought was don't eat pork. 00:42:38.02\00:42:40.49 Okay, And I didn't really know it wasn't 00:42:40.52\00:42:42.66 until somebody gave me a book called 00:42:42.69\00:42:44.06 Counsels on Diet and Foods, 00:42:44.09\00:42:45.43 and I started saying, wow, I didn't learn that in college, 00:42:45.46\00:42:47.46 so I started applying it to my own life, 00:42:47.50\00:42:49.60 and I certainly realized that this is a gift of grace, 00:42:49.63\00:42:52.03 and so many people think it's so legalistic 00:42:52.07\00:42:54.50 and that you're being so particular 00:42:54.54\00:42:56.67 and you're working your way to heaven, 00:42:56.71\00:42:58.87 but when we take these principles 00:42:58.91\00:43:00.71 and we take them like we're doing 00:43:00.74\00:43:02.08 right now on Flagstaff to people in their work sites. 00:43:02.11\00:43:05.11 We're finding their productivity is better. 00:43:05.15\00:43:06.92 We're seeing a drop in depression, 00:43:06.95\00:43:08.95 and we're not evenly necessarily focusing 00:43:08.98\00:43:10.32 on this one at the time 00:43:10.35\00:43:11.69 and that's a neat thing about these principles. 00:43:11.72\00:43:13.05 You don't have to focus on this or focus on that 00:43:13.09\00:43:15.42 and focus on that. 00:43:15.46\00:43:16.79 It's a transformation of the entire being. 00:43:16.83\00:43:19.56 You know, it's funny that you said 00:43:19.59\00:43:20.93 how everyone can, 00:43:20.96\00:43:23.10 and science has caught up with what we know. 00:43:23.13\00:43:25.23 Absolutely. 00:43:25.27\00:43:26.60 I mean science everyday is proving the health message, 00:43:26.63\00:43:29.24 but when people think that it's legalistic, 00:43:29.27\00:43:31.37 I mean that's ridiculous, 00:43:31.41\00:43:32.74 because we know salvation is by grace, 00:43:32.77\00:43:34.38 we're not doing anything 00:43:34.41\00:43:36.11 to try to earn our way to heaven, we can't. 00:43:36.14\00:43:40.22 There is nothing that we can do that will save ourselves. 00:43:40.25\00:43:43.75 Salvation belongs to God, but he is our creator 00:43:43.79\00:43:48.26 and Paul says, hey, your body is not your own, 00:43:48.29\00:43:51.09 it belongs to the Lord, he's redeemed you, 00:43:51.13\00:43:52.99 bought you with a price. 00:43:53.03\00:43:55.26 And we should not defile with the temple of the spirit. 00:43:55.30\00:43:59.97 We're not supposed to defile this, 00:44:00.00\00:44:02.07 but God as the owner, if you ever have... 00:44:02.10\00:44:05.24 If you bought yourself a brand new Cadillac 00:44:05.27\00:44:07.81 and you went out, you would find 00:44:07.84\00:44:09.44 in the glove compartment, what? 00:44:09.48\00:44:11.81 An owner's manual. 00:44:11.85\00:44:13.18 And it will tell you what kind of oil, 00:44:13.21\00:44:14.62 what kind of gasoline. 00:44:14.65\00:44:16.12 So if you've got a gasoline car and you put diesel in it, 00:44:16.15\00:44:20.12 what's gonna happen? 00:44:20.16\00:44:21.86 Not gonna run really well, is it? 00:44:21.89\00:44:23.32 Well, this is kind of God has told us 00:44:23.36\00:44:25.23 what's good for us, 00:44:25.26\00:44:26.59 and science is now proving it out. 00:44:26.63\00:44:28.76 So we just have a few more minutes. 00:44:28.80\00:44:31.70 What do you think has been the most exciting thing 00:44:31.73\00:44:35.00 as you have prepared to the materials for this. 00:44:35.04\00:44:40.91 Did God gave you any ah-ha moments, 00:44:40.94\00:44:43.14 did you have any epiphanies 00:44:43.18\00:44:45.08 as you were preparing the materials for this program. 00:44:45.11\00:44:49.45 I guess the big thing for me is, 00:44:49.48\00:44:51.65 how easily it float once we tried 00:44:51.69\00:44:54.36 to put it into place, because we didn't scripted 00:44:54.39\00:44:58.03 and we haven't really talked about it. 00:44:58.06\00:44:59.93 And Jay had slides together, as PhD he does fabulous work, 00:44:59.96\00:45:04.23 and we were putting the slides up 00:45:04.27\00:45:06.23 and he gave me a preliminary 00:45:06.27\00:45:07.60 what it was going to be and then he changed them. 00:45:07.64\00:45:11.27 So he threw a slide up and I'm looking up as I go... 00:45:11.31\00:45:12.71 We don't call them slides anymore, Dick, 00:45:12.74\00:45:14.54 we call them graphics. 00:45:14.58\00:45:16.81 Whatever, I was looking at the graphic and I go, 00:45:16.85\00:45:18.88 wait a minute, I don't remember that 00:45:18.91\00:45:20.42 and after he goes, "Oh, I switched it in for you." 00:45:20.45\00:45:23.45 But still we were able to play off each other 00:45:23.49\00:45:25.15 and just works really nicely 00:45:25.19\00:45:26.52 and just the excitement of the people that heard it. 00:45:26.55\00:45:31.39 And of course, we had people young teens there, 00:45:31.43\00:45:34.70 we had senior citizens there, 00:45:34.73\00:45:36.50 we had just your basic baby boomers there. 00:45:36.53\00:45:38.83 We had everybody and they were all getting 00:45:38.87\00:45:41.50 something out of it, 00:45:41.54\00:45:42.87 and so and I think that was going to be exciting 00:45:42.90\00:45:44.74 when they see how this comes to life 00:45:44.77\00:45:46.31 because it isn't a legalistic message, 00:45:46.34\00:45:48.71 it's a message of love. 00:45:48.74\00:45:50.21 And when you talk about the Bible, 00:45:50.25\00:45:51.78 and Jay and I both know this 00:45:51.81\00:45:54.02 nutritional science changes all the time, 00:45:54.05\00:45:55.95 you know, what was popular now wasn't popular, 00:45:55.98\00:45:58.62 you know, it always changes. 00:45:58.65\00:46:00.02 You look at the physical principles in the Bible, 00:46:00.06\00:46:03.39 back from Genesis on through, it's all 100 percent accurate. 00:46:03.43\00:46:07.73 I mean God doesn't make mistakes. 00:46:07.76\00:46:09.73 So if you look at the Levitical law 00:46:09.76\00:46:11.13 and, "You can eat this, but don't eat that. 00:46:11.17\00:46:13.90 You better off if you just go back 00:46:13.94\00:46:15.37 to original diet found in the Garden of Eden. 00:46:15.40\00:46:17.64 And the more we can get people back to that original diet, 00:46:17.67\00:46:20.41 the healthier people gonna be. 00:46:20.44\00:46:22.28 Well, and we certainly have seen. 00:46:22.31\00:46:23.78 I mean I've seen people's lives been changed 00:46:23.81\00:46:27.08 by changing to this message. 00:46:27.12\00:46:29.35 Jay, for you as you, did God kind of renew 00:46:29.38\00:46:34.42 an interest in anything or rebuilt. 00:46:34.46\00:46:36.83 Absolutely, in our most recent intervention in Flagstaff, 00:46:36.86\00:46:40.83 we're applying these principles week by week there 00:46:40.86\00:46:43.23 and there's a lady there who came with her husband, 00:46:43.26\00:46:46.43 their employees of the hospital there 00:46:46.47\00:46:48.57 and we're doing it right in the hospital auditorium. 00:46:48.60\00:46:51.17 And she came in and she's been bipolar 00:46:51.21\00:46:53.61 for years on several medications 00:46:53.64\00:46:55.84 and we had an introduction were we did a six hour training 00:46:55.88\00:46:58.55 of what's gonna be happening and how this is gonna go. 00:46:58.58\00:47:00.85 We did a two, three hour segments. 00:47:00.88\00:47:03.15 And by the time we came back for the first week 00:47:03.18\00:47:04.95 where they were supposed to start applying it. 00:47:04.99\00:47:06.89 She'd already jumped in and started applying 00:47:06.92\00:47:09.12 the little bit of principles we had already given her 00:47:09.16\00:47:11.36 and she was, her countenance was different 00:47:11.39\00:47:13.40 and she was a total different person, 00:47:13.43\00:47:15.53 it's like she came out of a fog. 00:47:15.56\00:47:17.27 This is like five days, five days 00:47:17.30\00:47:20.70 and I thought, you know, 00:47:20.74\00:47:22.07 God's principles are true today. 00:47:22.10\00:47:24.17 And this is a message of grace and love to open up our minds 00:47:24.21\00:47:28.14 and our hearts to be restored back into his image. 00:47:28.18\00:47:31.08 I just... I'm so excited about this. 00:47:31.11\00:47:33.31 We've done that at the Black Hills 00:47:33.35\00:47:34.68 where we saw it in a lockdown situation 00:47:34.72\00:47:36.72 where people can really get well. 00:47:36.75\00:47:38.65 But we want to be out in the community 00:47:38.69\00:47:40.32 where people live in their own homes 00:47:40.36\00:47:42.16 and they apply these principles in their homes 00:47:42.19\00:47:45.03 and they transform them and they apply that 00:47:45.06\00:47:47.00 and we provide the support to keep doing it, 00:47:47.03\00:47:50.03 going along in this massive group of people 00:47:50.07\00:47:52.50 around the world, they're part of that. 00:47:52.53\00:47:54.90 You know we're so excited that we're going to be offering 00:47:54.94\00:47:58.21 this wonderful new series Optimize 4 Life. 00:47:58.24\00:48:02.11 And what I do want to say is that, 00:48:02.14\00:48:04.68 you know, going to a lifestyle center like 00:48:04.71\00:48:06.58 Black Hills or Eden Valley, it's very important. 00:48:06.61\00:48:09.28 It's critical for people who are in crisis, 00:48:09.32\00:48:13.66 you know, being spoon fed is the ideal 00:48:13.69\00:48:16.09 when you're in crisis, but this is going to be 00:48:16.12\00:48:18.89 something that's just taking it to a greater majority of people 00:48:18.93\00:48:23.50 who maybe cannot afford to go to a lifestyle center 00:48:23.53\00:48:28.57 or who cannot take the time off. 00:48:28.60\00:48:31.87 So we're going to come back in just a second for a closing 00:48:31.91\00:48:34.74 thought from these two gentlemen, 00:48:34.78\00:48:36.11 but right now Jaimie Jorge is going to join us again 00:48:36.14\00:48:40.62 and one of my favorite songs, It is no Secret. 00:48:40.65\00:48:43.89
