Hello. 00:02:51.93\00:02:53.44 Karen, thank you so much for being here. 00:02:53.47\00:02:55.87 You're welcome. 00:02:55.90\00:02:57.24 Now you and your husband 00:02:57.27\00:02:58.61 are very actively involved in a ministry called 00:02:58.64\00:03:00.88 He Returns. 00:03:00.91\00:03:02.71 Just give me a little synopsis of what that ministry is about. 00:03:02.74\00:03:06.72 Well, He Returns was created to be able to do something 00:03:06.75\00:03:10.09 that was impossible for man to do. 00:03:10.12\00:03:12.52 And we wanted to be able to spread the Gospel message 00:03:12.55\00:03:15.92 through multimedia. 00:03:15.96\00:03:17.99 So what He Returns does is we lease sub-channels 00:03:18.03\00:03:22.23 from television stations. 00:03:22.26\00:03:24.80 Our first was in Kansas City, and now this week, 00:03:24.83\00:03:28.44 we're actually going up in Denver. 00:03:28.47\00:03:30.01 And what we do is we downlink 3ABN 00:03:30.04\00:03:33.94 to those people in those cities 00:03:33.98\00:03:35.94 so that they can have the message of 3ABN. 00:03:35.98\00:03:38.68 Praise the Lord. Yes. 00:03:38.71\00:03:40.05 But we're here today, not so much you work... 00:03:40.08\00:03:43.45 Your husband and few other men at his church 00:03:43.49\00:03:45.99 began He Return's. Yes. 00:03:46.02\00:03:48.06 And you work as a volunteer for He Returns. 00:03:48.09\00:03:50.99 Yes. 00:03:51.03\00:03:52.36 But we want to talk today with you 00:03:52.39\00:03:54.23 about what God has done in your life 00:03:54.26\00:03:56.73 through the power of his words. 00:03:56.77\00:03:58.73 Tell us a little bit about 00:03:58.77\00:04:00.57 your Treasure Seekers Bible Study group 00:04:00.60\00:04:03.74 and how you became involved 00:04:03.77\00:04:07.38 in exercising the power of God's word. 00:04:07.41\00:04:10.88 Well, I've had a Bible Study group 00:04:10.91\00:04:12.61 called Treasure Seekers at our church in Omaha. 00:04:12.65\00:04:15.52 And we are always looking for wonderful material to study. 00:04:15.55\00:04:19.45 I saw one of your programs on 3ABN 00:04:19.49\00:04:22.26 and saw your book, Exalting His Word. 00:04:22.29\00:04:25.33 So we studied that book chapter by chapter. 00:04:25.36\00:04:28.50 And the great part about your book, Shelley, 00:04:28.53\00:04:30.97 was the pages of scripture in the back of it 00:04:31.00\00:04:34.44 that you call Life Affirmation Scriptures. 00:04:34.47\00:04:37.81 So that's what I really used in my life 00:04:37.84\00:04:40.18 to make a difference. 00:04:40.21\00:04:41.78 All right, now how did that make a difference? 00:04:41.81\00:04:44.61 Tell us your story. Okay. 00:04:44.65\00:04:46.35 My story is my husband and I were married for 20 years, 00:04:46.38\00:04:50.79 we have four children. 00:04:50.82\00:04:52.55 Because of a lot of circumstances, 00:04:52.59\00:04:54.36 we ended up being divorced 00:04:54.39\00:04:56.66 and our divorce lasted for ten years. 00:04:56.69\00:05:00.06 Now during this time, you and your husband 00:05:00.10\00:05:03.00 were still going to the same church? 00:05:03.03\00:05:04.93 We went to the same church. 00:05:04.97\00:05:06.30 He was involved in our children's lives, 00:05:06.33\00:05:08.27 lived about a mile away from our home. 00:05:08.30\00:05:11.87 But there were so many things that paralyzed us. 00:05:11.91\00:05:14.61 We could not come back together again. 00:05:14.64\00:05:17.21 All right, so when you learned... 00:05:17.25\00:05:20.48 And then it just thrills me, 00:05:20.52\00:05:22.12 it's so humbling to know that God can work... 00:05:22.15\00:05:26.42 Use you as a tool in his hand to introduce teaching, 00:05:26.45\00:05:30.19 His teaching to someone to know the power of the word. 00:05:30.23\00:05:33.70 When you learned to return God's word to him, 00:05:33.73\00:05:36.70 knowing it wasn't going to return void, 00:05:36.73\00:05:39.63 how did that impact your marital situation? 00:05:39.67\00:05:46.07 Well, my son came in, in April, 2013, 00:05:46.11\00:05:49.31 and he wanted me to pray that he and his... 00:05:49.34\00:05:53.28 His dad and I would get back together again. 00:05:53.31\00:05:56.18 And it really made me angry, 00:05:56.22\00:05:58.45 but God started laying it on my heart 00:05:58.49\00:06:00.19 that that's what `I needed to pray for. 00:06:00.22\00:06:02.86 And during that time, there was, 00:06:02.89\00:06:05.16 you know, a relationship that he was involved in that 00:06:05.19\00:06:08.63 broke my heart, it realized to me that I... 00:06:08.66\00:06:11.50 He started dating someone else? 00:06:11.53\00:06:12.87 I could lose, I could lose my family forever. 00:06:12.90\00:06:16.20 Even though we were in this paralyzed state, 00:06:16.24\00:06:18.21 we were still functioning somewhat, 00:06:18.24\00:06:20.54 but it wasn't the way God wanted it. 00:06:20.58\00:06:22.68 So my message to the women out there today 00:06:22.71\00:06:25.71 is that God can work powerfully to restore relationships. 00:06:25.75\00:06:29.68 But the way He does that is through His word. 00:06:29.72\00:06:32.75 So He would wake me up in the middle of the night, 00:06:32.79\00:06:34.92 has He ever done that to you? Oh, yes. 00:06:34.96\00:06:36.99 I couldn't go back to sleep, couldn't go back to sleep. 00:06:37.03\00:06:39.36 So I would get my Bible out and I took your book, Shelley. 00:06:39.39\00:06:43.60 And I started writing those 00:06:43.63\00:06:45.27 Life Affirmation Scriptures out in my journal 00:06:45.30\00:06:47.97 and then I would repeat them back to God 00:06:48.00\00:06:51.27 and I would claim those promises. 00:06:51.31\00:06:53.58 And one of the promises He gave me was Isaiah 43:18,19. 00:06:53.61\00:06:59.01 "Forget about the past, look to the future. 00:06:59.05\00:07:01.35 I have something new for you, 00:07:01.38\00:07:02.88 can't you see it, can't you perceive it?" 00:07:02.92\00:07:04.32 Amen. 00:07:04.35\00:07:05.69 So I forgot about the past and I started claiming to God 00:07:05.72\00:07:10.23 that it was righteous and if He's a righteous God 00:07:10.26\00:07:14.16 and in His perfect world, 00:07:14.20\00:07:15.56 He would want my husband and I back together again. 00:07:15.60\00:07:18.93 And that's what Ellen White, says that, 00:07:18.97\00:07:21.34 when she writes about Nehemiah, 00:07:21.37\00:07:23.27 that it's a holy argument, it's holy purpose 00:07:23.30\00:07:26.34 and God will honor those prayers. 00:07:26.37\00:07:29.34 And another big part of it was confessing 00:07:29.38\00:07:32.68 what I had done wrong. 00:07:32.71\00:07:34.82 I had always prayed for John my husband, 00:07:34.85\00:07:37.72 always asked God to change him, 00:07:37.75\00:07:39.99 but God laid on my heart 00:07:40.02\00:07:41.59 that I had to confess everything 00:07:41.62\00:07:43.99 that I could think of, that He laid on my mind, 00:07:44.03\00:07:47.00 confess it, and give it to Him and ask for forgiveness. 00:07:47.03\00:07:50.10 And that's when God can do 00:07:50.13\00:07:52.37 amazing healing and amazing restoration, 00:07:52.40\00:07:55.40 that's the key to restoration. 00:07:55.44\00:07:57.01 Oh, absolutely. 00:07:57.04\00:07:58.47 So you are praying God's word back to Him. 00:07:58.51\00:08:01.31 Yes. 00:08:01.34\00:08:02.68 Knowing it doesn't return void, 00:08:02.71\00:08:04.05 but He watches over His word to perform it. 00:08:04.08\00:08:07.02 Here you and your husband had been divorced 00:08:07.05\00:08:09.28 for ten years. Ten years. 00:08:09.32\00:08:10.79 Still attending the same church. 00:08:10.82\00:08:12.72 Before we go to the transition, how God worked this out, 00:08:12.75\00:08:16.22 let me ask you question. 00:08:16.26\00:08:17.69 For those ten years, you weren't dating, 00:08:17.73\00:08:19.36 you were focused on rearing your children. 00:08:19.39\00:08:20.90 That's right. 00:08:20.93\00:08:22.26 And your husband wasn't really involved in anyone else's 00:08:22.30\00:08:25.97 until you started praying for restoration, suddenly, 00:08:26.00\00:08:29.54 he started dating a woman that he brought to church. 00:08:29.57\00:08:31.64 Yes. 00:08:31.67\00:08:33.01 Well, how did that affect you when he showed up? 00:08:33.04\00:08:35.58 Here you've just begun to pray for restoration 00:08:35.61\00:08:38.85 and now suddenly, 00:08:38.88\00:08:40.22 there's someone in your husband's life 00:08:40.25\00:08:42.62 that it could mean 00:08:42.65\00:08:45.82 that all your prayers might not be answered. 00:08:45.85\00:08:47.99 How did that affect you? It was devastating. 00:08:48.02\00:08:50.53 And I call this my four months of Gethsemane. 00:08:50.56\00:08:53.96 Because I really didn't know... 00:08:54.00\00:08:55.86 I knew God wanted the best for me. 00:08:55.90\00:08:58.20 And I knew He heard my prayers, 00:08:58.23\00:09:00.00 I just didn't know what He was going to do. 00:09:00.04\00:09:02.30 I didn't know if this marriage would be restored, 00:09:02.34\00:09:05.97 but that's what I claimed. 00:09:06.01\00:09:07.78 I claimed that and it was devastating, 00:09:07.81\00:09:09.61 I couldn't go to church, at that church. 00:09:09.64\00:09:12.48 I went to another city to go to church, 00:09:12.51\00:09:15.65 but I had a dear friend that was praying along with me 00:09:15.68\00:09:18.09 and she said, "Karen, that woman does not belong 00:09:18.12\00:09:20.92 next to your husband, you do." 00:09:20.96\00:09:22.72 Praise God. 00:09:22.76\00:09:24.09 And so just like Nehemiah, 00:09:24.13\00:09:25.66 I really didn't share this with a lot of people. 00:09:25.69\00:09:28.53 It was between me and God 00:09:28.56\00:09:30.77 and it was a few select friends that I knew would pray-- 00:09:30.80\00:09:34.30 Amen. And they prayed. 00:09:34.34\00:09:36.07 They did, they prayed. 00:09:36.10\00:09:38.14 So, how did God restore your relationship? 00:09:38.17\00:09:41.68 Well, this relationship didn't last. 00:09:41.71\00:09:44.91 You're talking about the dating? 00:09:44.95\00:09:46.72 Yes. 00:09:46.75\00:09:48.08 Your husband was dating someone and that didn't last? 00:09:48.12\00:09:49.55 And so I approached him and I asked him 00:09:49.58\00:09:50.92 if he wanted to get together and talk. 00:09:50.95\00:09:53.66 I had approached him before that time, 00:09:53.69\00:09:56.16 but he has said, "No." 00:09:56.19\00:09:57.89 This time he said, "Yes." And we started talking. 00:09:57.93\00:10:01.13 And it was like God had wiped everything away. 00:10:01.16\00:10:04.90 It was like a clean slate, a brand new relationship. 00:10:04.93\00:10:08.97 In fact, the Lord actually gave him, 00:10:09.00\00:10:11.77 the verse of Isaiah 43:18 where God says, 00:10:11.81\00:10:15.78 "Do not dwell on the past." 00:10:15.81\00:10:18.21 he says, "I am doing a new thing in you, 00:10:18.25\00:10:21.38 cannot perceive it?" 00:10:21.42\00:10:23.85 So he had given him the very same verse, 00:10:23.89\00:10:27.12 you come together and you start talking. 00:10:27.16\00:10:30.03 And the past actually, 00:10:30.06\00:10:31.66 it was like God dissolves the past. 00:10:31.69\00:10:34.00 Yes, it was refreshing, it was unbelievable. 00:10:34.03\00:10:38.53 We decided we wanted... 00:10:38.57\00:10:39.90 This was a first part of October. 00:10:39.93\00:10:41.80 We decided we wanted to get married December first. 00:10:41.84\00:10:44.97 Wow. 00:10:45.01\00:10:46.34 And we're both looking at each other going. 00:10:46.37\00:10:48.28 "Wow, this is so soon." 00:10:48.31\00:10:50.55 But John's apartment lease was up. 00:10:50.58\00:10:52.51 He would have had to lease it for another year 00:10:52.55\00:10:55.25 or we would have to get married 00:10:55.28\00:10:56.82 and he could come and we could live together. 00:10:56.85\00:10:59.49 So we prayed about it 00:10:59.52\00:11:02.16 'cause we thought people would think we were crazy. 00:11:02.19\00:11:04.93 We prayed about it, I got up the next morning 00:11:04.96\00:11:06.96 and God clearly told me to count the number of days 00:11:07.00\00:11:11.77 since we first started talking to 00:11:11.80\00:11:13.60 when we wanted to get married. 00:11:13.64\00:11:15.07 And you know, Shelly, it was 52 days. 00:11:15.10\00:11:18.04 The same number of days 00:11:18.07\00:11:19.41 it took them to rebuild the walls 00:11:19.44\00:11:21.51 of Jerusalem with Nehemiah. 00:11:21.54\00:11:23.78 And I had been studying Nehemiah too, 00:11:23.81\00:11:25.55 so that was my answer. 00:11:25.58\00:11:27.25 And we got married and it's just been amazing. 00:11:27.28\00:11:31.55 We look at each other and we cannot believe 00:11:31.59\00:11:33.62 that we're together and that God has given us new life. 00:11:33.66\00:11:37.69 But we believe it's because the time is short 00:11:37.73\00:11:40.76 before He's going to return. 00:11:40.80\00:11:42.63 God wants these relationships repaired. 00:11:42.66\00:11:46.40 And He wants to be able to use us in a powerful way 00:11:46.43\00:11:49.80 to bring that end time message to thousands of people. 00:11:49.84\00:11:54.18 Now you recently had the opportunity 00:11:54.21\00:11:56.95 to give your first sermon. 00:11:56.98\00:11:58.31 Yes. 00:11:58.35\00:12:00.05 And it was on the restoration. Yes. 00:12:00.08\00:12:02.88 You told a fascinating story. 00:12:02.92\00:12:04.49 You want to share the story about the cannibals? 00:12:04.52\00:12:07.72 Yes, it's a movie actually called, "End of the Spear", 00:12:07.76\00:12:10.73 that you can watch, 00:12:10.76\00:12:12.09 but it's about five missionaries 00:12:12.13\00:12:13.80 that went to Quito, Ecuador in 1950s, 00:12:13.83\00:12:18.63 with their families and their young children. 00:12:18.67\00:12:20.47 And they... It was laid on their heart. 00:12:20.50\00:12:23.87 Nate Saint was studying the book of Nehemiah. 00:12:23.91\00:12:26.88 And the Lord led him down there with four other missionaries 00:12:26.91\00:12:30.35 and they would... 00:12:30.38\00:12:31.71 They wanted to take the Gospel message 00:12:31.75\00:12:33.58 to the cannibals, 00:12:33.62\00:12:35.52 they were called Waodani or the Auca Indians. 00:12:35.55\00:12:38.95 And they were trying to make contact, 00:12:38.99\00:12:40.79 take their airplane and they'd circle around 00:12:40.82\00:12:43.86 and drop a rope down with a bucket, 00:12:43.89\00:12:45.89 and they'd have prizes, you know, presents in their, 00:12:45.93\00:12:49.36 trying to say, "We're friends, 00:12:49.40\00:12:50.73 we want to be peaceful with you. 00:12:50.77\00:12:52.20 We want to give you hope." 00:12:52.23\00:12:55.07 And unfortunately, 00:12:55.10\00:12:56.47 one of their attempts to make contact, 00:12:56.50\00:12:58.67 they landed the plane on the river bank 00:12:58.71\00:13:00.54 and they were all speared to death. 00:13:00.58\00:13:03.81 Nate Saint had a son named Steve and he grew up. 00:13:03.85\00:13:08.75 His aunt Rachel stayed down there to help minister 00:13:08.78\00:13:12.52 and bring the Gospel to these people. 00:13:12.55\00:13:14.06 And he returned after his aunt Rachel passed away 00:13:14.09\00:13:18.03 to continue her ministry. 00:13:18.06\00:13:19.66 And he met the man 00:13:19.69\00:13:21.03 that actually speared his father to death. 00:13:21.06\00:13:24.47 Who had now been converted? 00:13:24.50\00:13:26.43 He was a Christian now. 00:13:26.47\00:13:28.77 And Steve Saint, through God's power, 00:13:28.80\00:13:31.21 was able to forgive him. 00:13:31.24\00:13:32.84 He brought him back to the United States 00:13:32.87\00:13:35.24 and he claimed him as the grandfather 00:13:35.28\00:13:37.48 to his very own children. Wow. 00:13:37.51\00:13:40.45 His father was dead. 00:13:40.48\00:13:42.45 This was the man who had killed him. 00:13:42.48\00:13:45.15 But now he put him in his place 00:13:45.19\00:13:47.92 and he told this man Mincayani, 00:13:47.96\00:13:49.89 he told him, "You did not take my father's life. 00:13:49.92\00:13:54.20 My father gave his life to you." 00:13:54.23\00:13:56.63 Oh, how precious. 00:13:56.67\00:13:58.00 So another example of restoration of relationships, 00:13:58.03\00:14:01.84 God is powerful he can do it for anyone. 00:14:01.87\00:14:05.91 Karen, we know, there is power in the word of God. 00:14:05.94\00:14:11.95 It is alive and active, it is a powerful thing. 00:14:11.98\00:14:15.12 There are times, 00:14:15.15\00:14:16.48 and we don't want to leave the wrong impression here, 00:14:16.52\00:14:19.05 do you believe that if women pray as you pray 00:14:19.09\00:14:22.59 that all marriages are going to be restored? 00:14:22.62\00:14:25.29 You know, God knows everyone's hearts 00:14:25.33\00:14:27.43 and He knows every place that a person is at. 00:14:27.46\00:14:30.93 And I just believe 00:14:30.97\00:14:32.30 that if you truly give yourself over to the Lord, 00:14:32.33\00:14:34.90 That He will guide and lead your life. 00:14:34.94\00:14:37.01 When I was praying, 00:14:37.04\00:14:38.37 I had no idea what God was going to do. 00:14:38.41\00:14:41.11 But my part was to pray and to be faithful 00:14:41.14\00:14:44.48 and to give my life to the Lord 00:14:44.51\00:14:46.18 and to let Him lead according to His will. 00:14:46.21\00:14:49.58 Amen. 00:14:49.62\00:14:50.95 To be submissive, we're praying boldly, 00:14:50.99\00:14:55.39 but humbly before the throne of grace. 00:14:55.42\00:14:58.09 And the point being that God knows what's best 00:14:58.13\00:15:02.23 and He knew for you and your husband 00:15:02.26\00:15:04.70 that He intended for you, 00:15:04.73\00:15:06.07 it was His perfect will for you to return. 00:15:06.10\00:15:08.87 And there are times and circumstances 00:15:08.90\00:15:10.91 that not all marriages would be... 00:15:10.94\00:15:14.64 It may not work, 00:15:14.68\00:15:16.01 both the hearts have to be surrendered to the Lord. 00:15:16.04\00:15:18.11 He may not restore the marriage, 00:15:18.15\00:15:19.48 but He will restore you. Amen. 00:15:19.51\00:15:21.15 That's precious. Yes. 00:15:21.18\00:15:22.52 Now, since you've remarried, it's been a couple of years 00:15:22.55\00:15:25.62 and that's when your husband and few other men at his church 00:15:25.65\00:15:29.66 had begun the ministry of He returns, 00:15:29.69\00:15:31.79 and if you keep watching on three 3ABN, 00:15:31.83\00:15:33.40 you'll see Danny's, 00:15:33.43\00:15:35.03 is going to be introducing or interviewing 00:15:35.06\00:15:37.53 John your husband. Yes. 00:15:37.57\00:15:39.23 And, but that ministry had been kind of simmering, 00:15:39.27\00:15:43.00 they had a 501(c)(3) and for several years, 00:15:43.04\00:15:46.21 had been kind of limping along, we'll say, 00:15:46.24\00:15:48.61 but since God restored your relationship, 00:15:48.64\00:15:51.78 now that ministry has exploded. 00:15:51.81\00:15:53.68 He's opening the doors to downlink 3ABN, 00:15:53.72\00:15:57.29 to Kansas City and now Denver, and we're hoping, 00:15:57.32\00:16:00.92 just whole lot of more cities as time goes on quickly. 00:16:00.96\00:16:06.09 Well, we just want to thank you so much for sharing your story. 00:16:06.13\00:16:09.40 It's, you know, there's a certain vulnerability 00:16:09.43\00:16:12.50 in just being honest about your life circumstances, 00:16:12.53\00:16:16.54 but at the same time, it brings glory to God 00:16:16.57\00:16:19.21 and we see how God's changed you 00:16:19.24\00:16:21.88 through the power of His word. 00:18:34.94\00:18:36.38 Just, kind of, maybe lead into that. 00:18:36.41\00:18:38.05 How did you meet? 00:18:38.08\00:18:39.41 And we'll talk about the program in just a movement. 00:18:39.45\00:18:41.05 Okay, so, it was in GYC this year, 00:18:41.08\00:18:45.25 I had not go plan to go. 00:18:45.29\00:18:46.62 God providentially provided everything for me to be there. 00:18:46.65\00:18:50.73 And I ran into 00:18:50.76\00:18:52.46 one of Dr. John's colleagues Eric Kelly 00:18:52.49\00:18:55.86 and without really realizing it, 00:18:55.90\00:18:59.30 I had been praying for an opportunity 00:18:59.33\00:19:00.74 where I could combine my health and bible trainings. 00:19:00.77\00:19:03.74 Yes. 00:19:03.77\00:19:05.11 And, all of a sudden that week, 00:19:05.14\00:19:06.51 I was really impressed to contact Eric. 00:19:06.54\00:19:09.41 I really don't even know Eric, 00:19:09.44\00:19:11.51 but I was very impressed to do that. 00:19:11.55\00:19:13.31 So I found him on Facebook, I contacted him 00:19:13.35\00:19:16.75 and asked him if he had done anything 00:19:16.79\00:19:18.49 with the ideas of ministry that he had before. 00:19:18.52\00:19:21.49 Five years ago is when I met him. 00:19:21.52\00:19:23.39 And it just so happens 00:19:23.43\00:19:24.76 that he emailed me back that same night. 00:19:24.79\00:19:27.76 He said that they had just been praying very earnestly 00:19:27.80\00:19:31.13 that God would send team members 00:19:31.17\00:19:33.80 for this summer's project. 00:19:33.84\00:19:35.17 Okay. 00:19:35.20\00:19:36.54 And that I had been the first one 00:19:36.57\00:19:38.07 and that it was, kind of, unusual at how quickly, 00:19:38.11\00:19:41.01 it had only been like two hours since they had prayed. 00:19:41.04\00:19:43.48 And so from there we kept on communicating and I thought, 00:19:43.51\00:19:47.12 yeah, I'll do this later on. 00:19:47.15\00:19:49.22 But it turned out that God really wanted me 00:19:49.25\00:19:52.09 to come this summer. 00:19:52.12\00:19:53.46 God had other plans. Yes, He did. 00:19:53.49\00:19:55.42 Now we're going to talk about 00:19:55.46\00:19:56.79 comprehensive medical evangelism. 00:19:56.83\00:19:59.03 Now I've heard of comprehensive insurance, 00:19:59.06\00:20:02.36 but, Dr. Torquato, tell us about 00:20:02.40\00:20:04.37 comprehensive medical evangelism 00:20:04.40\00:20:06.94 as it is lived out 00:20:06.97\00:20:09.17 through the Total Health Program 00:20:09.20\00:20:10.54 here in Spokane, Washington. 00:20:10.57\00:20:11.91 The way we see comprehensive medical evangelism 00:20:11.94\00:20:15.14 is in the fullness of whole person care. 00:20:15.18\00:20:18.18 We have a physical, a mental, emotional, 00:20:18.21\00:20:21.18 a spiritual, and a social component 00:20:21.22\00:20:23.59 that we try to address with every patient that we see. 00:20:23.62\00:20:26.05 And we find that when we put them all together, 00:20:26.09\00:20:28.89 it really is more effective 00:20:28.92\00:20:31.29 than I could have been in an office setting 00:20:31.33\00:20:35.43 as a physician or our pastor could have been 00:20:35.46\00:20:38.17 in a community setting as a pastor, 00:20:38.20\00:20:39.93 you put those together, pastor and physician together, 00:20:39.97\00:20:43.24 and becomes comprehensive, 00:20:43.27\00:20:45.11 so the patients, the people are blessed, 00:20:45.14\00:20:48.58 they're healed and yet they learn about Jesus. 00:20:48.61\00:20:52.31 And, when you think about it Jesus was involved 00:20:52.35\00:20:55.18 in comprehensive medical evangelism. 00:20:55.22\00:20:57.49 Yes. 00:20:57.52\00:20:58.85 Because he did more healing 00:20:58.89\00:21:00.22 than he did preaching and teaching. 00:21:00.26\00:21:01.59 That's right. 00:21:01.62\00:21:02.96 And so when you think about the entire person. 00:21:02.99\00:21:04.33 But I'm interested, where did the idea come from? 00:21:04.36\00:21:05.96 Where did the sparks get going? 00:21:05.99\00:21:07.86 Because we know that everything that we do 00:21:07.90\00:21:09.36 has a beginning. 00:21:09.40\00:21:10.73 How did God plant that vision in your heart 00:21:10.77\00:21:12.77 to be involved in this? 00:21:12.80\00:21:14.27 Well, you know, everything has a continuum, 00:21:14.30\00:21:17.47 so we started very slowly in Hayden, Idaho, 00:21:17.51\00:21:21.58 we ended up with a small church based medical clinic 00:21:21.61\00:21:25.48 that involved people that were coming in 00:21:25.51\00:21:28.45 from the community that had medical disease, 00:21:28.48\00:21:30.35 the pastor and myself combined. 00:21:30.39\00:21:32.95 And then we would incorporate church members as coaches 00:21:32.99\00:21:37.33 that would go through our program 00:21:37.36\00:21:39.06 with the patients over a period of months. 00:21:39.09\00:21:41.70 That was over a period of years that occurred. 00:21:41.73\00:21:43.63 But three years ago, we began to study a model 00:21:43.67\00:21:46.77 called the "Ten Dell method", of evangelism. 00:21:46.80\00:21:49.77 And we got some good information 00:21:49.80\00:21:52.24 from our good friend Eric Kelly 00:21:52.27\00:21:54.54 who helped us to get some direction 00:21:54.58\00:21:57.08 on how to be comprehensive in nature 00:21:57.11\00:22:00.02 so that it was an evangelistic, it was physical, 00:22:00.05\00:22:02.65 and spiritual and emotional, social altogether. 00:22:02.68\00:22:05.99 Last summer, we had six young people 00:22:06.02\00:22:09.56 who came to our town and spent seven weeks with us. 00:22:09.59\00:22:15.23 Each of those assigned four patients from my office, 00:22:15.26\00:22:18.43 had a very effective time, 00:22:18.47\00:22:20.04 probably the most effective ministry time 00:22:20.07\00:22:23.00 that I've seen personally. 00:22:23.04\00:22:24.91 And this year, a slight morphing of that program 00:22:24.94\00:22:29.08 was that our patients came 00:22:29.11\00:22:30.95 from a community base this time. 00:22:30.98\00:22:32.78 And from church members, relationships 00:22:32.81\00:22:35.75 and from our church. 00:22:35.78\00:22:37.39 Okay, so the people that became a part of the program 00:22:37.42\00:22:39.45 eventually were not just people 00:22:39.49\00:22:41.26 that you were taking care of in your family practice, 00:22:41.29\00:22:45.16 but ultimately, people that the church members 00:22:45.19\00:22:47.43 got in contact with through their... 00:22:47.46\00:22:48.80 Through the work they did. 00:22:48.83\00:22:50.53 Give us an equation, because we talked about doctors, 00:22:50.57\00:22:53.90 what kind of equation? 00:22:53.94\00:22:55.27 can pastors be involved? 00:22:55.30\00:22:56.74 How do you put together a team for this Total Health Program? 00:22:56.77\00:22:59.81 The team has to have three major elements. 00:22:59.84\00:23:02.71 The first one is the pastor. Okay. 00:23:02.74\00:23:04.95 The pastor is the head of the, of the work that is done 00:23:04.98\00:23:08.78 in comprehensive medical evangelism. 00:23:08.82\00:23:10.65 But he can't work as affectively 00:23:10.69\00:23:13.29 without his health related co-worker. 00:23:13.32\00:23:16.02 Okay. 00:23:16.06\00:23:17.39 And that could be a physician and could be a dentist, 00:23:17.43\00:23:20.50 it could be a physical therapist or a nurse. 00:23:20.53\00:23:23.40 So a pastor, a health worker, 00:23:23.43\00:23:25.27 and then the church has to come alongside. 00:23:25.30\00:23:27.77 Without those three connections, 00:23:27.80\00:23:29.90 it doesn't work the way we have looked at it, 00:23:29.94\00:23:32.31 doesn't work as nicely. 00:23:32.34\00:23:33.74 Okay, now notice Esther's a young lady. 00:23:33.78\00:23:36.08 Tell me about the young people component 00:23:36.11\00:23:38.71 now that you've been involved in that, 00:23:38.75\00:23:41.02 what would you say to young people 00:23:41.05\00:23:42.38 that are saying well, 00:23:42.42\00:23:43.75 "My church really hasn't given me anything to do? 00:23:43.79\00:23:46.62 Talk about that for a movement. 00:23:46.65\00:23:48.32 Okay, well, our team is made up of different, 00:23:48.36\00:23:52.43 varied backgrounds, not everybody came 00:23:52.46\00:23:54.20 with health training. 00:23:54.23\00:23:55.56 We have a graphics designer, that's not health or medical. 00:23:55.60\00:23:59.87 We have a young man 00:23:59.90\00:24:01.24 whom just had an interest in health, 00:24:01.27\00:24:02.70 He did a health science degree, but he is not a doctor. 00:24:02.74\00:24:05.17 Right. 00:24:05.21\00:24:06.54 We have, we had a few nurses as well. 00:24:06.57\00:24:08.91 But what I see is practical that any young person can do 00:24:08.94\00:24:13.08 is that what we learn to do 00:24:13.11\00:24:16.05 is not just to come to someone and say, 00:24:16.08\00:24:18.52 "Hey, do you want Bible studies?" 00:24:18.55\00:24:19.89 Right. 00:24:19.92\00:24:21.26 But, to come and give them an approach of, 00:24:21.29\00:24:22.72 "Hey, we can help you." 00:24:22.76\00:24:24.66 And having the doctor or having a medical 00:24:24.69\00:24:27.30 and a pastor be involved was key 00:24:27.33\00:24:31.03 because they, kind of, prep them for us to arrive. 00:24:31.07\00:24:34.47 But even if you don't have that setup, 00:24:34.50\00:24:36.91 you can go to anybody and say, 00:24:36.94\00:24:38.34 "You know, we are the longest living people, right?" 00:24:38.37\00:24:41.14 That's true. 00:24:41.18\00:24:42.51 "And we have materials, we have information, 00:24:42.54\00:24:44.88 would you like to learn how to improve your life?" 00:24:44.91\00:24:47.98 And for us, it was simple things 00:24:48.02\00:24:50.35 like helping someone for their laundry. 00:24:50.39\00:24:53.36 Okay. 00:24:53.39\00:24:54.76 Which you don't need medical training. 00:24:54.79\00:24:56.12 You don't need any medical training for that. 00:24:56.16\00:24:57.53 Okay. 00:24:57.56\00:24:58.89 But the interesting thing is that 00:24:58.93\00:25:00.26 when you help someone declutter their home, 00:25:00.30\00:25:01.96 it's also decluttering their mind. 00:25:02.00\00:25:03.87 Wow. 00:25:03.90\00:25:05.23 It's affecting the way they feel about themselves. 00:25:05.27\00:25:09.00 We did exercise with individuals who wanted to... 00:25:09.04\00:25:12.07 They seriously needed to exercise for various reasons 00:25:12.11\00:25:15.24 and they just didn't have that motivation. 00:25:15.28\00:25:17.75 I had one and lady that I worked with 00:25:17.78\00:25:19.71 who hated exercising, absolutely hated it, she said, 00:25:19.75\00:25:24.15 "But I just don't know how to do it right." 00:25:24.19\00:25:26.49 and I told her, "Well, how much are you exercising?" 00:25:26.52\00:25:28.96 And she's like, "To the point that I feel like 00:25:28.99\00:25:30.36 I'm going to drop." 00:25:30.39\00:25:31.73 So you have to do that. 00:25:31.76\00:25:33.16 Just exercise a little and then grow until... 00:25:33.19\00:25:36.70 You can stop when you feel good, 00:25:36.73\00:25:38.17 and to this day she says she hears, my head 00:25:38.20\00:25:40.20 in the back of her... 00:25:40.24\00:25:41.57 she hears my voice in the back of her head 00:25:41.60\00:25:43.97 telling her to keep exercising. 00:25:44.01\00:25:46.68 You know, so it was very practical 00:25:46.71\00:25:49.48 just visiting people, just caring for them, 00:25:49.51\00:25:51.81 sometimes even just listening to them. 00:25:51.85\00:25:53.72 And the theme behind the Total Health evangelism 00:25:53.75\00:25:57.82 or comprehensive medical evangelism is the question, 00:25:57.85\00:26:00.92 how can we impact our community? 00:26:00.96\00:26:03.39 Talk about that, because a lot of times, 00:26:03.43\00:26:05.09 we come to communities 00:26:05.13\00:26:06.46 and sometimes in spiritual evangelism, 00:26:06.49\00:26:09.80 which this is definitely spiritual 00:26:09.83\00:26:11.47 in the comprehensive sense, 00:26:11.50\00:26:12.87 whereas sometimes seeking to take a person 00:26:12.90\00:26:15.64 from totally spiritually ignorant 00:26:15.67\00:26:17.94 to baptism in about five or six weeks. 00:26:17.97\00:26:19.84 Yes. 00:26:19.87\00:26:21.21 How does this help build the bridge 00:26:21.24\00:26:23.35 and make more lasting connections? 00:26:23.38\00:26:25.88 We're trying to find people that have needs, 00:26:25.91\00:26:29.52 felt needs, real needs, 00:26:29.55\00:26:31.62 and were trying to meet those needs 00:26:31.65\00:26:32.99 in any way we are able to. 00:26:33.02\00:26:34.36 Okay. 00:26:34.39\00:26:35.72 Often times, because of our background, 00:26:35.76\00:26:37.09 we have capacity in medical terms, 00:26:37.13\00:26:38.86 but sometimes, we have a capacity in just kindness. 00:26:38.89\00:26:41.80 Okay. 00:26:41.83\00:26:43.16 So we will go into their homes, 00:26:43.20\00:26:44.90 we don't ask them to come to us, we go to them. 00:26:44.93\00:26:47.20 And we'll go wherever they... 00:26:47.24\00:26:48.60 Wherever we need to, we'll meet them at the park, 00:26:48.64\00:26:50.61 we'll meet them at the store, we'll meet-- 00:26:50.64\00:26:51.97 The mall. 00:26:52.01\00:26:53.34 We'll be in the mall, we'll go into their homes, 00:26:53.38\00:26:54.81 we'll spend time with their family, 00:26:54.84\00:26:56.68 the children become accustomed to us. 00:26:56.71\00:26:59.28 And as we do, we become friends. 00:26:59.31\00:27:01.68 And as we become friends, we learn to care about people, 00:27:01.72\00:27:04.25 truly care about them. 00:27:04.29\00:27:06.25 And what you do for people 00:27:06.29\00:27:07.89 that you care about is not difficult. 00:27:07.92\00:27:10.39 That's true, that's true. It's not a sacrifice. 00:27:10.43\00:27:12.69 It's not a job, it's a relationship. 00:27:12.73\00:27:14.86 It is a relationship. Yes. 00:27:14.90\00:27:16.23 And that's the glory of this 00:27:16.26\00:27:17.77 is that we become friends with people 00:27:17.80\00:27:19.87 that we really care about and they know it. 00:27:19.90\00:27:22.60 And when they know it, they're drawn to the Gospel 00:27:22.64\00:27:25.21 that we have in our lives. 00:27:25.24\00:27:27.01 And then there's also an assessment part of it 00:27:27.04\00:27:28.71 because when you make connections 00:27:28.74\00:27:30.08 and find out what the needs are that people have, 00:27:30.11\00:27:33.01 talk about that assessment part of your program, 00:27:33.05\00:27:36.02 that daily assessment, how are we doing? 00:27:36.05\00:27:38.95 Tell me what does that entail? 00:27:38.99\00:27:40.49 Initially, as the patients are brought in, 00:27:40.52\00:27:42.22 we have an assessment 00:27:42.26\00:27:44.33 that kind of reviews their case. 00:27:44.36\00:27:46.63 Between the two physicians that were present. 00:27:46.66\00:27:49.10 And oftentimes, we would have consults with our pastor 00:27:49.13\00:27:51.57 if they were spiritual issues. 00:27:51.60\00:27:52.93 But in the medical terms, 00:27:52.97\00:27:54.44 the two physicians would review the case 00:27:54.47\00:27:56.07 and then we would have daily staffing 00:27:56.10\00:27:57.97 that we would cover with every single of the volunteers 00:27:58.01\00:28:01.54 each of their patients. 00:28:01.58\00:28:03.31 And we did that for the entire seven weeks essentially. 00:28:03.35\00:28:06.31 And it was time that we would be able to help 00:28:06.35\00:28:09.18 to direct and refocus and keep safe as necessary, 00:28:09.22\00:28:13.46 and help to make even better the services 00:28:13.49\00:28:17.73 that were being given. 00:28:17.76\00:28:19.09 Now there's not only the medical assessment, 00:28:19.13\00:28:20.46 but talk about the spiritual assessments, 00:28:20.50\00:28:22.00 because you're not just helping people 00:28:22.03\00:28:23.87 with an exercise program or decluttering their homes, 00:28:23.90\00:28:26.40 but there's a spiritual side to that 00:28:26.43\00:28:27.90 which includes Bible Study. 00:28:27.94\00:28:29.27 Talk about that fulfillment. 00:28:29.30\00:28:31.14 Okay, so interestingly enough, 00:28:31.17\00:28:34.68 the people who we got to study the most with 00:28:34.71\00:28:36.54 were already Adventist. 00:28:36.58\00:28:37.91 Okay. 00:28:37.95\00:28:39.28 But we did have 00:28:39.31\00:28:40.65 a non-Adventists family as well, 00:28:40.68\00:28:42.15 who we studied with. 00:28:42.18\00:28:43.52 Just because what got us to Bible studies 00:28:43.55\00:28:46.02 was relationship issues, marriage problems, 00:28:46.05\00:28:50.46 Hey, would you like a Bible study 00:28:50.49\00:28:51.83 to help your marriage? 00:28:51.86\00:28:53.19 Totally. 00:28:53.23\00:28:54.56 One man said that... 00:28:54.60\00:28:56.43 He actually gave us permission to share this. 00:28:56.46\00:28:58.23 He's Mormon, he said, 00:28:58.27\00:28:59.60 "My bishop will not come and help us with our marriage. 00:28:59.63\00:29:03.44 So if your pastor can come and help us, 00:29:03.47\00:29:05.97 I will pay them to come." 00:29:06.01\00:29:07.54 Wow. 00:29:07.58\00:29:08.91 You know, so now he's directly connected 00:29:08.94\00:29:10.38 with the pastor and his wife, he's received a Bible study, 00:29:10.41\00:29:13.62 the couple has received a Bible study on marriage. 00:29:13.65\00:29:16.58 But others, other Bible studies were not as formal, 00:29:16.62\00:29:19.62 they were just while we're in a conversation, 00:29:19.65\00:29:22.12 like for example, one lady was talking about the sunshine. 00:29:22.16\00:29:24.56 Okay. 00:29:24.59\00:29:25.93 And, there was a quote about 00:29:25.96\00:29:27.46 how you should always seek for the sunshine. 00:29:27.50\00:29:30.33 And I was trying to instill in her positivity. 00:29:30.37\00:29:33.17 And I said, "Yes, you should spend time in the sun, 00:29:33.20\00:29:35.20 but you should also stay positive every day. 00:29:35.24\00:29:37.54 Right. 00:29:37.57\00:29:38.91 And then I shared with her, like, 00:29:38.94\00:29:40.28 a scripture from the Bible or something like that. 00:29:40.31\00:29:41.81 And it wasn't it, wasn't hard for her 00:29:41.84\00:29:43.85 she wasn't taken aback. 00:29:43.88\00:29:45.35 She was just like, "Yeah." 00:29:45.38\00:29:46.78 You know, very easy to share, very non-confrontational. 00:29:46.82\00:29:51.65 And so those are the kinds of ways 00:29:51.69\00:29:54.06 that we ended up sharing the Bible with them. 00:29:54.09\00:29:56.06 Just recently, I'm done now here and one of the ladies, 00:29:56.09\00:30:00.30 I was on the phone with her, she was like, 00:30:00.33\00:30:01.66 "I miss you, like I just wanted to say hi." 00:30:01.70\00:30:03.77 And she said, "I still want someone to come visit me." 00:30:03.80\00:30:06.67 I said, "Yeah, there's someone in the church who will come." 00:30:06.70\00:30:09.00 And, she said, "But you guys can't do anything on Saturday, 00:30:09.04\00:30:11.77 'cause you guys, you know, 00:30:11.81\00:30:13.14 Saturday is your day, you know." 00:30:13.17\00:30:14.58 And I said, "No, no, we do good on the Sabbath 00:30:14.61\00:30:17.48 'cause that's what Jesus did." 00:30:17.51\00:30:18.85 And she said, 00:30:18.88\00:30:20.22 "Really, you do something on the Sabbath? 00:30:20.25\00:30:21.58 I though you guys, kind of, just sat around." 00:30:21.62\00:30:22.95 I said, "No, no, no, 00:30:22.98\00:30:24.32 it's the day where we impact the world 00:30:24.35\00:30:25.69 in a positive way." 00:30:25.72\00:30:27.06 Right. 00:30:27.09\00:30:28.42 And, she was surprised 00:30:28.46\00:30:29.79 'cause, she had a misconception 00:30:29.82\00:30:31.16 of what Adventists do on the Sabbath. 00:30:31.19\00:30:32.69 So that even helped in the spiritual sense 00:30:32.73\00:30:34.43 to broaden her ideologies. 00:30:34.46\00:30:36.06 Yes. What are these people do? 00:30:36.10\00:30:37.93 We just to sit around, we don't breathe very heavily. 00:30:37.97\00:30:39.83 Yes. 00:30:39.87\00:30:41.20 You know, we just, we keep the Sabbath, 00:30:41.24\00:30:42.60 but we keep away from people. 00:30:42.64\00:30:43.97 But she discovered that no, 00:30:44.01\00:30:45.91 this is the time to reach out to people. 00:30:45.94\00:30:47.68 To make a difference in their lives. 00:30:47.71\00:30:49.04 As you know, in the Bible, 00:30:49.08\00:30:50.41 when I can get away from the fact I'm a pastor, 00:30:50.45\00:30:52.08 Jesus healed many people on the Sabbath, 00:30:52.11\00:30:54.08 set them free on the Sabbath. 00:30:54.12\00:30:55.45 Yeah. Brought them liberty. 00:30:55.48\00:30:57.05 But now, Doctor, 00:30:57.09\00:30:58.42 in the assessments that you make, 00:30:58.45\00:31:00.26 I will point to you... 00:31:00.29\00:31:01.79 Well, in the assessments do you ever see 00:31:01.82\00:31:03.29 that there are cases that are medically critical 00:31:03.32\00:31:06.66 as compared to cases 00:31:06.70\00:31:08.03 that need very little to no attention. 00:31:08.06\00:31:10.77 Certainly in those critical cases, 00:31:10.80\00:31:12.93 we would do house calls on ourselves. 00:31:12.97\00:31:14.70 Okay. We would go with the volunteer. 00:31:14.74\00:31:17.11 They would drive us from home to home. 00:31:17.14\00:31:18.94 And we would you home visits in the home. 00:31:18.97\00:31:20.94 We would keep records. 00:31:20.98\00:31:22.31 We would put those records in a typical planned way, 00:31:22.34\00:31:25.41 in a electronic format. 00:31:25.45\00:31:27.48 Right. And we would maintain those. 00:31:27.52\00:31:29.12 And then sometimes, we would direct them, 00:31:29.15\00:31:30.89 there'd be something that's critical enough, 00:31:30.92\00:31:32.25 I need to talk with their physician, 00:31:32.29\00:31:33.62 I'd say, "You know, we need to refer you back your doctor, 00:31:33.66\00:31:35.42 you need to talk to them today. 00:31:35.46\00:31:37.39 Let's make a phone call." 00:31:37.43\00:31:38.76 And then the volunteer would get on the phone 00:31:38.79\00:31:40.13 with the physician and say, 00:31:40.16\00:31:41.50 "Hey, this is the problem, talk to the patient." 00:31:41.53\00:31:43.20 So we put them back into the system 00:31:43.23\00:31:44.87 that they currently exist with. 00:31:44.90\00:31:46.67 Sometimes, we'd have to send them directly 00:31:46.70\00:31:48.54 to the urgent care. 00:31:48.57\00:31:49.90 And that was the nice thing, somebody would call me up 00:31:49.94\00:31:51.84 and they'd say, "Hey, you know, we've got this circumstance, 00:31:51.87\00:31:53.61 so they need to see the urgent care now." 00:31:53.64\00:31:55.68 And off they would go. 00:31:55.71\00:31:57.41 Have you had instances where people, 00:31:57.45\00:31:59.81 after they make that connection, 00:31:59.85\00:32:02.05 they say, "Well, how can I find out 00:32:02.08\00:32:05.09 more about your church?" 00:32:05.12\00:32:07.26 Have you had some of those experiences? 00:32:07.29\00:32:08.92 Yes. Yes, we have. 00:32:08.96\00:32:10.66 On the medical front, tell me how that happened, 00:32:10.69\00:32:12.69 because seeing you as a physician, as a doctor 00:32:12.73\00:32:15.50 and you're not really asking them 00:32:15.53\00:32:17.47 about medical thing... 00:32:17.50\00:32:19.37 I mean spiritual things, have you had those questions, 00:32:19.40\00:32:21.40 "Well, Doctor, well, tell me about your background, 00:32:21.44\00:32:23.24 are you Christian?" 00:32:23.27\00:32:24.64 I ask all my patients about spiritual things all the time. 00:32:24.67\00:32:27.34 Praise the Lord. And so this is no different. 00:32:27.38\00:32:30.85 And they recognize that we are who we are. 00:32:30.88\00:32:33.98 We bless them out of love because we are Christians. 00:32:34.02\00:32:37.22 Okay. 00:32:37.25\00:32:38.59 And they want to know about that. 00:32:38.62\00:32:39.95 In fact, there are people that would like to be here today, 00:32:39.99\00:32:41.99 you know, because they recognized. 00:32:42.02\00:32:44.59 They're not Adventist, but they like to be with us. 00:32:44.63\00:32:47.43 They like to experience what we're doing. 00:32:47.46\00:32:49.40 And it's all because of that relationship of love 00:32:49.43\00:32:51.70 that develops. 00:32:51.73\00:32:53.47 And so going back to the idea, I want to make sure 00:32:53.50\00:32:56.17 that those who are watching the program 00:32:56.20\00:32:57.54 have the information they need 00:32:57.57\00:32:58.91 to go ahead get in touch with you. 00:32:58.94\00:33:00.28 I mentioned this, but also again, 00:33:00.31\00:33:02.41 if you want to find out more about the ministry 00:33:02.44\00:33:04.35 called, Total Health Spokane, it fact is, TotalHealthSpokane, 00:33:04.38\00:33:09.48 that's T-O-T-A-L-H-E-A-L-T-H- S-P-O-K-A-N-E.com, 00:33:09.52\00:33:15.49 where Dr. John Torquato, 00:33:15.52\00:33:18.33 I thought that was a Korean name. 00:33:18.36\00:33:20.63 But it's not, he's very much American, 00:33:20.66\00:33:22.80 and Esther Lopez involved. 00:33:22.83\00:33:24.87 Go back to the original question I asked 00:33:24.90\00:33:27.34 because some people may say, "Well, how hard is this?" 00:33:27.37\00:33:30.67 Esther, tell us about that. 00:33:30.71\00:33:32.14 Oh, it's really easy. 00:33:32.17\00:33:34.08 It's really just building a relationship, 00:33:34.11\00:33:35.98 it could be your neighbor, 00:33:36.01\00:33:37.48 it could even just be someone in church, 00:33:37.51\00:33:39.31 'cause, we were helping people who were in the church. 00:33:39.35\00:33:42.58 Brand new Adventist or church members 00:33:42.62\00:33:44.55 that have been there for a long time 00:33:44.59\00:33:45.92 that are having serious health means. 00:33:45.95\00:33:47.69 But we're not coming in 00:33:47.72\00:33:49.06 and trying to revolutionize their life, 00:33:49.09\00:33:50.43 we're just trying to help in any little way we can. 00:33:50.46\00:33:53.06 So it's very easy to do, even just a phone call, 00:33:53.09\00:33:57.00 just building a friendship, having one friend, 00:33:57.03\00:33:59.67 one of the ladies I was with, just having one friend 00:33:59.70\00:34:01.77 has changed her life. 00:34:01.80\00:34:03.81 So then young people can get involved. 00:34:03.84\00:34:05.34 Yes. 00:34:05.37\00:34:06.71 They don't have to have medical background. 00:34:06.74\00:34:08.08 No. No. Or medical training. 00:34:08.11\00:34:09.44 What are some of the things that they can get involved in 00:34:09.48\00:34:10.81 almost immediately? 00:34:10.85\00:34:12.18 Immediately? 00:34:12.21\00:34:13.55 Yeah, like passing out tracks or-- 00:34:13.58\00:34:14.92 Yeah, yeah, you can... 00:34:14.95\00:34:16.69 Honestly, it's really just building a friendship. 00:34:16.72\00:34:18.85 Can you say hello to someone? 00:34:18.89\00:34:21.22 Oh, I like that. 00:34:21.26\00:34:22.99 Can you notice if, you know, if they look needy, 00:34:23.02\00:34:27.33 maybe they need food? 00:34:27.36\00:34:28.70 You know, have you seen a mother 00:34:28.73\00:34:31.83 that has a lot of kids and a stressed out? 00:34:31.87\00:34:33.47 Wow. 00:34:33.50\00:34:34.84 She might need a babysitter, you know. 00:34:34.87\00:34:36.47 And, and those are the basic daily necessities 00:34:36.50\00:34:39.57 and challenges of life. 00:34:39.61\00:34:41.08 Lot of times people feel that, 00:34:41.11\00:34:42.48 "Well, I don't really have the training. 00:34:42.51\00:34:43.85 I'm not a pastor. I'm not an evangelist, 00:34:43.88\00:34:45.41 what can I do? 00:34:45.45\00:34:46.78 It's the simple method of simply reaching out to people, 00:34:46.82\00:34:49.28 building the bridge on the physical end. 00:34:49.32\00:34:51.35 On the medical and now some of the... 00:34:51.39\00:34:54.02 Some of the physician that are involved, 00:34:54.06\00:34:56.09 what kinds of physicians? 00:34:56.12\00:34:57.49 Well, right now my partner and I 00:34:57.53\00:34:59.49 are family practice physicians. 00:34:59.53\00:35:00.90 Okay. 00:35:00.93\00:35:02.26 But I have a very good friend who's an anesthesiologist, 00:35:02.30\00:35:05.47 who doesn't pain management, 00:35:05.50\00:35:06.90 but he is great at lifestyle medicine 00:35:06.94\00:35:09.40 and he does all kinds of 00:35:09.44\00:35:10.77 lifestyle medicine in his community, 00:35:10.81\00:35:12.31 a very effective. 00:35:12.34\00:35:13.88 And so and then the pastors, you know, 00:35:13.91\00:35:16.78 the pastors that work with us, they don't have to be even 00:35:16.81\00:35:21.38 medically oriented by their background. 00:35:21.42\00:35:23.59 But they work with us side by side. 00:35:23.62\00:35:25.75 So when we're working side by side, 00:35:25.79\00:35:27.22 the pastor will be kind of the receptionist, 00:35:27.26\00:35:29.32 if you will, in the church 00:35:29.36\00:35:30.69 as a patient would come into the church. 00:35:30.73\00:35:32.06 Yes. 00:35:32.09\00:35:33.43 And, often times, the pastor develops a relationship 00:35:33.46\00:35:36.33 before I can. 00:35:36.36\00:35:38.03 And the patient leaves with literature that... 00:35:38.07\00:35:40.54 I've had cases which change their lives medically. 00:35:40.57\00:35:43.67 Because what the pastor had the opportunity to provide. 00:35:43.71\00:35:46.94 And the circumstance is that 00:35:46.98\00:35:49.98 any physician can be participant. 00:35:50.01\00:35:51.78 And any nurse can be participant, 00:35:51.81\00:35:53.15 but any church member really can be participant. 00:35:53.18\00:35:55.98 We've experimented with this 00:35:56.02\00:35:57.89 for over seven years in the church 00:35:57.92\00:35:59.82 with small free clinics. 00:35:59.85\00:36:01.42 And we have church members 00:36:01.46\00:36:03.02 that have changed people's lives. 00:36:03.06\00:36:05.66 Because of their relationship with Jesus 00:36:05.69\00:36:07.56 that becomes side by side walking 00:36:07.60\00:36:09.53 with the person in the community. 00:36:09.56\00:36:11.23 So would say, this is the kind of program 00:36:11.27\00:36:12.83 that if people wanted to implement that in their-- 00:36:12.87\00:36:15.17 Outside of Spokane, 00:36:15.20\00:36:16.54 maybe in Florida or New York or Illinois. 00:36:16.57\00:36:19.27 It's a program that they could duplicate 00:36:19.31\00:36:21.64 the format that you've together. 00:36:21.68\00:36:24.41 And improve it. Yeah. 00:41:49.84\00:41:51.34 Gary, let's talk about 00:41:51.37\00:41:52.84 some building projects that's going on, 00:41:52.87\00:41:54.88 that's really one the main reasons 00:41:54.91\00:41:56.28 we wanted you guys here. 00:41:56.31\00:41:57.68 Something really revolutionary maybe for academies 00:41:57.71\00:42:01.92 and tell us a little bit 00:42:01.95\00:42:03.28 what's happening there on the construction site. 00:42:03.32\00:42:06.89 It was a fascinating beginning. 00:42:06.92\00:42:10.96 We met Scott one day at church in Moab 00:42:10.99\00:42:14.13 and talked a little bit and so a few, 00:42:14.16\00:42:17.83 maybe week or so later, 00:42:17.87\00:42:19.20 we brought some bees out to the DayStar, 00:42:19.23\00:42:22.50 because they have a farm, 00:42:22.54\00:42:24.01 we talked more about construction. 00:42:24.04\00:42:26.47 And it was a week or two later that Scott called me and said, 00:42:26.51\00:42:30.38 "Hey, we're going to get into a building program, 00:42:30.41\00:42:33.98 Garwin McNeilus is going to show up here. 00:42:34.02\00:42:37.09 Will you be interested in coming over?" 00:42:37.12\00:42:38.95 And I said, "Sure, we've been praying about it." 00:42:38.99\00:42:42.26 And so we made the trip over and met with Garwin. 00:42:42.29\00:42:47.20 He had a proposal 00:42:47.23\00:42:50.53 for a new One Day North American house, home. 00:42:50.57\00:42:55.87 So we spend, what, three days together 00:42:55.90\00:42:58.77 I think that the first time. 00:42:58.81\00:43:00.71 And yes, from that day forward 00:43:00.74\00:43:03.81 it is just been an incredible journey. 00:43:03.85\00:43:06.38 Okay, so tell me exactly 00:43:06.41\00:43:08.62 because a lot of our viewers may not be aware 00:43:08.65\00:43:11.25 when you say a One Day school. 00:43:11.29\00:43:14.06 What is that mean? 00:43:14.09\00:43:15.42 Well, it's a take off from his One Day School Church 00:43:15.46\00:43:18.53 that he's built overseas, I guess, thousands of them. 00:43:18.56\00:43:22.96 He's adopted it to a One Day Residence. 00:43:23.00\00:43:26.63 He has a plan for a 24x32 house, 00:43:26.67\00:43:33.44 a one bedroom facility, 00:43:33.48\00:43:35.54 that's going to be very inexpensive 00:43:35.58\00:43:37.88 and quick to build. 00:43:37.91\00:43:39.71 And so we're getting that, Don Kirkman, and us, 00:43:39.75\00:43:43.39 and Garwin, met this week 00:43:43.42\00:43:44.99 to finalize plans to submit for permits. 00:43:45.02\00:43:49.66 He also has a three bedroom 00:43:49.69\00:43:52.73 that we're going to get submit and try to get approved. 00:43:52.76\00:43:58.17 So these buildings are the ones, 00:43:58.20\00:44:00.17 a lot of the folk will know 00:44:00.20\00:44:02.00 that literally they had been shipped 00:44:02.04\00:44:03.51 all the way around the world, 00:44:03.54\00:44:04.87 they put them together in Dodge Center, Minnesota, 00:44:04.91\00:44:08.58 ship them by shipping containers to Africa, 00:44:08.61\00:44:11.95 could may be Cambodia, literally Haiti, 00:44:11.98\00:44:15.05 around the world and volunteers will come 00:44:15.08\00:44:18.15 and they literally put these churches up in one day. 00:44:18.19\00:44:21.12 They're steel structures, 00:44:21.16\00:44:22.62 because I've been some of these countries 00:44:22.66\00:44:24.79 and the termites literally eat these buildings up. 00:44:24.83\00:44:28.46 I was in Cambodia with Garwin several years ago 00:44:28.50\00:44:32.27 and I heard this noise 00:44:32.30\00:44:34.67 and you can literally hear it in church and I said, 00:44:34.70\00:44:38.24 "What is that noise?" 00:44:38.27\00:44:39.81 And they didn't have a PA system. 00:44:39.84\00:44:41.44 He said, "You know, what that is? 00:44:41.48\00:44:42.81 Come out here and I'll show you." 00:44:42.84\00:44:44.18 The termites were eating. 00:44:44.21\00:44:45.65 He said, "These churches last hardly no time. 00:44:45.68\00:44:48.25 So we need to come up with something." 00:44:48.28\00:44:50.59 He said, "I'll think about this and pray about it." 00:44:50.62\00:44:53.36 And the idea came, 00:44:53.39\00:44:54.72 so they build the steel structures, 00:44:54.76\00:44:56.52 have the roof, literally the trusses. 00:44:56.56\00:44:58.73 Everything's cut, the metal is bent, 00:44:58.76\00:45:01.23 shaped there in Dodge Center. 00:45:01.26\00:45:03.63 And literally, volunteers will show up 00:45:03.67\00:45:06.94 in many places around the world. 00:45:06.97\00:45:08.90 And folks can start in one day and by the evening, 00:45:08.94\00:45:11.57 sometimes they're having church. 00:45:11.61\00:45:13.34 And then the locals can finish the side walls 00:45:13.38\00:45:15.98 and if they want to do anything on the interior. 00:45:16.01\00:45:18.05 So basically, what you guys are doing 00:45:18.08\00:45:21.38 is you're taking that one day church structure, 00:45:21.42\00:45:25.15 the metal structure 00:45:25.19\00:45:26.89 and you'll be finishing it yourself is that right?
