Murray 00:01:10.17\00:01:11.50 and the privilege and pleasure are mine to thank you 00:01:11.53\00:01:14.84 for sharing just a little of your day with us, 00:01:14.87\00:01:17.64 to thank you for all you-- 00:01:17.67\00:01:19.01 all that you do to help us do what we are called to do 00:01:19.04\00:01:22.71 and that's to lift up 00:01:22.74\00:01:24.08 the mighty and matchless name of Jesus 00:01:24.11\00:01:26.01 and to take the good news of the gospel far and wide 00:01:26.05\00:01:29.45 to every man, woman, boy 00:01:29.48\00:01:31.52 and girl on this old planet of ours. 00:01:31.55\00:01:34.32 Got a good show for you today 00:01:34.36\00:01:35.69 because we like to do these roles 00:01:35.72\00:01:38.79 when we get a chance to go to these large meetings 00:01:38.83\00:01:41.06 ASI, GC every five years. 00:01:41.10\00:01:43.90 ASI annually, GYC. 00:01:43.93\00:01:47.80 We get a chance to see the great ministry work 00:01:47.84\00:01:50.61 that is being done for the kingdom of God. 00:01:50.64\00:01:52.27 We get a chance to see men and women, 00:01:52.31\00:01:54.14 sometimes boys and girls who are doing great things 00:01:54.18\00:01:57.18 who are letting the Lord use them to do great things 00:01:57.21\00:01:59.21 for His kingdom and for His cause. 00:01:59.25\00:02:01.75 Now this year 215th ASI was-- 00:02:01.78\00:02:05.55 attendance was down just a little bit. 00:02:05.59\00:02:07.09 I think that was occasioned by the fact 00:02:07.12\00:02:08.69 that it was just month after General Conference 00:02:08.72\00:02:11.43 there were so many, 00:02:11.46\00:02:12.79 oh, better part of thousand ministries with booths 00:02:12.83\00:02:16.13 there at General Conference in San Antonio. 00:02:16.16\00:02:18.13 So in Spokane, Washington came just month later for the ASI. 00:02:18.17\00:02:23.07 There are some ministries that could not make it 00:02:23.10\00:02:25.44 and chose not to add that as their expense. 00:02:25.47\00:02:28.58 Having said that, 00:02:28.61\00:02:29.94 there were still many, many ministries there 00:02:29.98\00:02:31.98 and we got a chance to meet some great people 00:02:32.01\00:02:34.48 doing some great things for the Lord. 00:02:34.52\00:02:37.02 First up, Shelley Quinn had a chance to talk 00:02:37.05\00:02:39.72 with Henry Stubbs and Luis Amador. 00:02:39.75\00:02:43.53 Now, Henry and Luis 00:02:43.56\00:02:45.39 were with the World Youth Group in Cuba, 00:02:45.43\00:02:47.76 that's the place I've always wanted to go. 00:02:47.80\00:02:49.96 My copy says that Henry and his wife were 00:02:50.00\00:02:52.00 Sabbath school leaders in their local church 00:02:52.03\00:02:54.57 but they were praying for something else to do 00:02:54.60\00:02:57.11 and the Lord impressed them to get involved 00:02:57.14\00:02:58.81 in foreign work. 00:02:58.84\00:03:00.18 And so a lady came to their church 00:03:00.21\00:03:02.08 talking about Cuba 00:03:02.11\00:03:03.45 asked Henry if he would want to come to Cuba. 00:03:03.48\00:03:05.55 He hooked up with Luis 00:03:05.58\00:03:07.02 and they made a decision to go to Cuba 00:03:07.05\00:03:09.72 and do a great work for the Lord 00:03:09.75\00:03:11.49 and Shelley Quinn had a chance to talk with them both. 00:03:11.52\00:03:15.19 Here in the booth we have two special guests 00:03:18.26\00:03:20.26 joining us in a fascinating story of the ministry 00:03:20.30\00:03:24.03 that they are doing in Cuba 00:03:24.07\00:03:25.73 and just let me get straight to it 00:03:25.77\00:03:27.34 because I don't want to waste any time. 00:03:27.37\00:03:30.07 Thank you, Henry Stubbs. 00:03:30.11\00:03:31.44 You're president of World Youth Organization 00:03:31.47\00:03:34.61 and we thank you-- 00:03:34.64\00:03:35.98 the World Youth Group I miss spelt. 00:03:36.01\00:03:37.58 That's it. World Youth Group. 00:03:37.61\00:03:39.35 Thank you for being here 00:03:39.38\00:03:40.75 and then we also have Luis Amador. 00:03:40.78\00:03:43.15 And, Luis, is the-- you are with the seminary. 00:03:43.18\00:03:48.46 Vice president. 00:03:48.49\00:03:49.82 You're vice president of the seminary, 00:03:49.86\00:03:51.79 Seventh-day Adventist seminary in Cuba. 00:03:51.83\00:03:55.33 First, tell me what is the name of the seminary? 00:03:55.36\00:03:59.07 What is the name of the seminary? 00:03:59.10\00:04:01.00 Adventist Theological Seminary of Cuba. 00:04:01.04\00:04:04.21 Wonderful. We train the pastors. 00:04:04.24\00:04:06.57 Praise the Lord. 00:04:06.61\00:04:08.08 You know, I just want to confess to my own ignorance 00:04:08.11\00:04:10.45 because I did not realize we had a seminary there. 00:04:10.48\00:04:14.58 But I'm kind of getting ahead of myself. 00:04:14.62\00:04:16.28 Let's back up. 00:04:16.32\00:04:18.12 Henry, you-- this ministry began, 00:04:18.15\00:04:22.42 it was birthed by prayer 00:04:22.46\00:04:23.79 but tell us how World Youth Group 00:04:23.83\00:04:27.06 actually began and reached into Cuba. 00:04:27.10\00:04:31.00 It's quite a story, Shelley. 00:04:31.03\00:04:33.44 I will just say that it was truly 00:04:33.47\00:04:35.94 as you've mentioned an answer to prayer. 00:04:35.97\00:04:38.77 It was a miracle. 00:04:38.81\00:04:40.24 My wife and I were Sabbath school leaders of youth 00:04:40.28\00:04:43.65 in a rural church plant in South Carolina. 00:04:43.68\00:04:48.02 And we were praying, "Lord, how do we impact these youths? 00:04:48.05\00:04:51.09 How do we make a difference?" 00:04:51.12\00:04:52.45 We had a small group 00:04:52.49\00:04:54.52 but they were mostly from non-Adventist backgrounds 00:04:54.56\00:04:57.83 from the local high schools. 00:04:57.86\00:04:59.19 They were just, they heard about our group 00:04:59.23\00:05:00.56 and they were interested. 00:05:00.60\00:05:01.93 We had been to Chile a couple times 00:05:01.96\00:05:04.03 but the Lord impressed us to get involved in foreign work 00:05:04.07\00:05:08.64 and led us to a quote later in the book "Gospel Workers" 00:05:08.67\00:05:12.41 that if you do get involved in foreign work, 00:05:12.44\00:05:16.04 the work at home will abound. 00:05:16.08\00:05:18.65 Praise the Lord. And it was precious quote. 00:05:18.68\00:05:20.02 Amen. 00:05:20.05\00:05:21.38 And so the Lord opened up the door in Chile 00:05:21.42\00:05:23.82 and the youth were giving their testimony of that project 00:05:23.85\00:05:29.26 in the little local church in South Carolina 00:05:29.29\00:05:31.39 and there was a visitor in the audience that day. 00:05:31.43\00:05:34.26 And she came up with tears afterwards and said, 00:05:34.30\00:05:36.20 "Would you bring these same youth to my country? 00:05:36.23\00:05:39.03 My parents built a church before the revolution 00:05:39.07\00:05:41.84 and the roof is being held up by a rope to a mango tree. 00:05:41.87\00:05:46.84 Would your youth come down and do evangelism 00:05:46.88\00:05:49.18 and rebuild that church?" 00:05:49.21\00:05:50.98 We said, "What's your country?" And she said, "Cuba." 00:05:51.01\00:05:54.58 How do you go to Cuba? 00:05:54.62\00:05:56.22 Which was a communist, is a communist country. 00:05:56.25\00:05:58.79 Yeah. Especially in the 1990s. Yes. 00:05:58.82\00:06:01.36 And she said, 00:06:01.39\00:06:02.72 "I'll get you there if you'll come." 00:06:02.76\00:06:04.09 And we prayed about it 00:06:04.13\00:06:05.46 and we said, "Yes, Lord, we will go." 00:06:05.49\00:06:07.90 And that's how it began. 00:06:07.93\00:06:09.56 So when you first went to Cuba, did you receive any resistance? 00:06:09.60\00:06:15.04 We did. 00:06:15.07\00:06:16.71 We went down at first alone 00:06:16.74\00:06:20.54 with this Cuban-American 00:06:20.58\00:06:24.11 and we went to the town, we saw the church. 00:06:24.15\00:06:26.92 We made a decision to tear it down 00:06:26.95\00:06:29.18 and to rebuild. 00:06:29.22\00:06:32.45 It takes years to get a permit to rebuild 00:06:32.49\00:06:35.49 an existing church in Cuba 00:06:35.52\00:06:37.46 and she had been working on that process. 00:06:37.49\00:06:40.26 But we met the chief communist party officer in the town. 00:06:40.30\00:06:44.27 We told him, I'm director of nursing as well 00:06:44.30\00:06:47.87 in a hospital in South Carolina. 00:06:47.90\00:06:50.41 And we told him that we would like to be some blessing 00:06:50.44\00:06:55.18 to the town. 00:06:55.21\00:06:56.54 We were coming down with some young people 00:06:56.58\00:06:58.31 what could we do? 00:06:58.35\00:06:59.68 He toured us in the hospital. 00:06:59.71\00:07:01.35 They didn't have that time sheets on the beds 00:07:01.38\00:07:04.02 and they didn't have EKG machines 00:07:04.05\00:07:06.15 and even blood sugar machines. 00:07:06.19\00:07:08.22 And this is in the '90s. 00:07:08.26\00:07:09.69 And we brought all of those things down. 00:07:09.72\00:07:12.13 The women in our church made sheets for the beds 00:07:12.16\00:07:14.56 and we delivered all those things. 00:07:14.60\00:07:17.90 Our first day there we came owith 28 youth 00:07:17.93\00:07:21.70 and the next day-- 00:07:21.74\00:07:23.17 Were you able to bring medical equipment as well or? 00:07:23.20\00:07:26.74 We did. It was a miracle. 00:07:26.78\00:07:30.81 I don't have time to tell you the story, Shelley, 00:07:30.85\00:07:33.08 but in a nutshell 00:07:33.11\00:07:35.15 the second day we were in that town, 00:07:35.18\00:07:36.82 we were stopped 00:07:36.85\00:07:38.35 and we were asked to-- we were stopped very strongly. 00:07:38.39\00:07:42.89 We were asked to go to the regional head quarters. 00:07:42.92\00:07:47.83 You say stopped, this is by government officials? 00:07:47.86\00:07:50.17 Yes, by officials. Okay. 00:07:50.20\00:07:51.77 And we went to the regional head quarters 00:07:51.80\00:07:53.67 and ultimately realize 00:07:53.70\00:07:56.14 that we were in violation of Cuban law on two accounts. 00:07:56.17\00:08:00.28 And it was a challenging experience. 00:08:00.31\00:08:02.74 I'm sure that would. 00:08:02.78\00:08:04.11 We had no idea but we were in a town 00:08:04.15\00:08:06.25 that foreigners were not allowed 00:08:06.28\00:08:09.28 and we were staying in the home of Seventh-day Adventist 00:08:09.32\00:08:13.86 in this little town. 00:08:13.89\00:08:15.42 And that is not allowed for a foreigner 00:08:15.46\00:08:18.23 to stay in a home. 00:08:18.26\00:08:20.00 And so it was quite an experience. 00:08:20.03\00:08:23.63 Again, I won't share the whole story 00:08:23.67\00:08:26.53 and nevertheless praise the Lord. 00:08:26.57\00:08:31.01 They gave us an option to go ahead and leave 00:08:31.04\00:08:34.44 the island 00:08:34.48\00:08:35.81 and or go to a tourist hotel and stay in a tourist place. 00:08:35.84\00:08:38.71 And we chose to leave. 00:08:38.75\00:08:41.22 And then we are gonna come back, 00:08:41.25\00:08:42.85 we will leave you right there for just a second 00:08:42.88\00:08:45.09 so we can get Luis involved. 00:08:45.12\00:08:47.99 But, Luis, tell us a little of your background. 00:08:48.02\00:08:52.23 Did you grow up 00:08:52.26\00:08:53.66 in a Seventh-day Adventist home? 00:08:53.70\00:08:56.10 No, I didn't. 00:08:56.13\00:08:57.70 I was raised in a communist home. 00:08:57.73\00:09:01.20 My father is been a communist till today. 00:09:01.24\00:09:06.37 My mother she was kind of in the past 00:09:06.41\00:09:09.58 but I was part of that same idea, 00:09:09.61\00:09:16.18 you know, philosophical idea. 00:09:16.22\00:09:19.35 The matter of the fact, I was a communist as well 00:09:19.39\00:09:22.22 in the past till my-- 00:09:22.26\00:09:24.26 I was like 18-years-old 00:09:24.29\00:09:26.23 by the time I received as a gift my first Bible. 00:09:26.26\00:09:30.53 And I started to read the Bible alone 00:09:30.57\00:09:33.40 and then the Lord touched my heart. 00:09:33.44\00:09:36.81 That's amazing. 00:09:36.84\00:09:38.17 So you went from being reared in a communist home 00:09:38.21\00:09:43.55 with that philosophy, those ideals 00:09:43.58\00:09:46.51 and through reading your Bible 00:09:46.55\00:09:48.52 and did you have someone who also mentored you 00:09:48.55\00:09:51.32 or helped you study? 00:09:51.35\00:09:52.69 Yes. 00:09:52.72\00:09:54.06 I was studying pharmacy at the university in my city, 00:09:54.09\00:09:58.69 Santa Clara city in Cuba. 00:09:58.73\00:10:00.43 And I had a classmate 00:10:00.46\00:10:02.53 who was an advent, who is an Adventist. 00:10:02.56\00:10:04.80 As a matter of fact, he is head elder 00:10:04.83\00:10:07.14 of one of the churches in Cuba today. 00:10:07.17\00:10:09.17 And he was witnessing me and he also took me 00:10:09.20\00:10:13.78 to a house of Pastor Zaldivar, Virgilio Zaldivar. 00:10:13.81\00:10:18.28 In the past 00:10:18.31\00:10:19.65 he was the president of the seminary in Cuba. 00:10:19.68\00:10:21.98 And then I went to visit him 00:10:22.02\00:10:24.55 and I told him that I wanted to study the Bible. 00:10:24.59\00:10:27.72 I wanted to understand what the Bible means. 00:10:27.76\00:10:31.43 He gave me a set of the Boys of Hope 00:10:31.46\00:10:35.76 and he told me something I will never forget. 00:10:35.80\00:10:38.13 Read it by yourself, 00:10:38.17\00:10:39.50 have your own conclusions and make a decision. 00:10:41.20\00:10:44.17 Amen. Amen. Glory to God. 00:10:44.21\00:10:47.18 So obviously the Lord had His hand over this 00:10:47.21\00:10:52.05 because you are now with the seminary as vice president 00:10:52.08\00:10:55.48 and you are working with World Youth Group. 00:10:55.52\00:10:58.65 Tell us what the World Youth group 00:10:58.69\00:11:00.52 is doing in Cuba. 00:11:00.56\00:11:03.69 There's really four things that we do, Shelley, 00:11:03.73\00:11:06.26 in Cuba at this time. 00:11:06.29\00:11:09.23 Again, there's been a tremendous growth. 00:11:09.26\00:11:11.73 For 12 years we just took our Sabbath school class 00:11:11.77\00:11:16.20 of youth down and did one new church plant 00:11:16.24\00:11:20.48 in an un-entered area and un-reached area. 00:11:20.51\00:11:22.84 What I mean by that 00:11:22.88\00:11:24.28 is no Seventh-day Adventist presence, 00:11:24.31\00:11:27.95 often very little Christianity at all 00:11:27.98\00:11:31.62 particularly, Protestant Christianity. 00:11:31.65\00:11:34.46 And so we would go to a mountain town, village, 00:11:34.49\00:11:38.26 a city somewhere and start a new work. 00:11:38.29\00:11:41.96 After 12 years we-- 00:11:42.00\00:11:43.43 Wait. Wait. You can't leave me hanging. 00:11:43.47\00:11:44.80 All right. 00:11:44.83\00:11:46.17 How do you start a new work in a communist country 00:11:46.20\00:11:49.17 where there is-- 00:11:49.20\00:11:51.51 if there is any religion, it's generally not Protestant. 00:11:51.54\00:11:55.14 How do you introduce, 00:11:55.18\00:11:56.61 how do you plant a church in that environment? 00:11:56.64\00:11:59.75 Even the conference and the union 00:11:59.78\00:12:03.95 and the officials of Seventh-day Adventist Church 00:12:03.99\00:12:06.59 in Cuba struggles with that question. 00:12:06.62\00:12:09.66 That's a very important question. 00:12:09.69\00:12:11.56 How do you do it? 00:12:11.59\00:12:12.93 Many methods have been tried 00:12:12.96\00:12:15.23 but what we learned through trial and error 00:12:15.26\00:12:21.24 and we made a lot of mistakes. 00:12:21.27\00:12:23.10 But what we learned is you must go out 00:12:23.14\00:12:27.44 and have somebody that's willing to move to that town. 00:12:27.48\00:12:32.31 And so we would talk to the churches around 00:12:32.35\00:12:35.28 and find a young person, a young couple, 00:12:35.32\00:12:38.12 two or three people and send them to this town 00:12:38.15\00:12:41.06 and find a place for them to live for or a stay 00:12:41.09\00:12:44.79 for a few months. 00:12:44.83\00:12:46.16 And then we would bring our youth group down, 00:12:46.19\00:12:47.66 our Sabbath school class and do evangelism there. 00:12:47.70\00:12:51.20 But we noticed, 00:12:51.23\00:12:53.17 a couple years later or three years later, 00:12:53.20\00:12:55.37 even though there was a precious result 00:12:55.40\00:12:57.17 and baptisms and the Lord blessed 00:12:57.21\00:12:59.41 and there were decisions for Jesus. 00:12:59.44\00:13:02.24 But we would notice that it-- it would not remain strong 00:13:02.28\00:13:06.68 and that was a big challenge. 00:13:06.72\00:13:09.45 So the Lord led us to the next step 00:13:09.48\00:13:11.35 and that was the right arm of the gospel. 00:13:11.39\00:13:14.72 Practical, the practical gospel. 00:13:14.76\00:13:17.66 The way to go into a town and make a real difference 00:13:17.69\00:13:23.13 in the fabric of that community by ministering the people, 00:13:23.16\00:13:28.17 finding a need and meeting, whatever that is. 00:13:28.20\00:13:31.84 So the Lord blessed us in that and we began a school in Cuba. 00:13:31.87\00:13:37.58 We use the light click curriculum 00:13:37.61\00:13:39.65 from another ASI ministry, Our light 00:13:39.68\00:13:43.05 and it is about 50 percent 00:13:43.08\00:13:46.42 the curriculum and practical ways 00:13:46.45\00:13:49.12 to help people including particularly, health 00:13:49.16\00:13:52.09 and the eight laws 00:13:52.13\00:13:53.46 and encouraging people to become stronger, 00:13:53.50\00:13:56.87 helping them with diseases, relieving suffering. 00:13:56.90\00:14:00.50 And then about 50 percent in the gospel, 00:14:00.54\00:14:02.80 do you really know the salvation, 00:14:02.84\00:14:05.87 have you experienced salvation, 00:14:05.91\00:14:07.61 can you share it, can you lead someone to Jesus. 00:14:07.64\00:14:10.65 So we started a school in Cuba for Cuban young people 00:14:10.68\00:14:15.08 and realize that we need to have them permanently 00:14:15.12\00:14:19.29 in these new areas 00:14:19.32\00:14:20.66 and then come down with North American youth 00:14:20.69\00:14:23.59 and do evangelism. 00:14:23.63\00:14:25.13 So four things you ask what we do, 00:14:25.16\00:14:26.80 what does World Youth Group do? Four things now. 00:14:26.83\00:14:29.43 It has changed tremendously from one church plant a year 00:14:29.46\00:14:33.07 to two, to three, last year four new ones. 00:14:33.10\00:14:37.21 This year seven by God's grace. 00:14:37.24\00:14:40.24 We've already done three 00:14:40.28\00:14:41.61 and we got four more coming in October. 00:14:41.64\00:14:44.41 So it's really exploded 00:14:44.45\00:14:46.68 and just because of this practical gospel 00:14:46.72\00:14:49.38 making a difference much like 00:14:49.42\00:14:51.25 Pathways to Health did in Spokane here. 00:14:51.29\00:14:53.49 Yes. Yes. 00:14:53.52\00:14:55.39 The four things are number one is training. 00:14:55.42\00:14:59.33 We train young people in Cuba to be medical missionaries. 00:14:59.36\00:15:03.60 Number two is to send. 00:15:03.63\00:15:06.70 We interview the graduates and hire those that are willing 00:15:06.74\00:15:11.81 and seem committed to go out and live in a new area, 00:15:11.84\00:15:14.91 new city where there is not a presence. 00:15:14.94\00:15:17.51 And then we go through the challenge 00:15:17.55\00:15:19.45 of finding a place for them to live. 00:15:19.48\00:15:21.05 That's very challenging in Cuba. 00:15:21.08\00:15:23.08 There is not much rental property. 00:15:23.12\00:15:24.55 It's much easier to actually purchase property in Cuba 00:15:24.59\00:15:28.69 than to rent. 00:15:28.72\00:15:30.73 Then number three 00:15:30.76\00:15:32.09 is what we started in the beginning 00:15:32.13\00:15:34.26 and that's harvesting. 00:15:34.30\00:15:35.63 Brining North American youth down 00:15:35.66\00:15:37.47 to combine with the Cuban youth 00:15:37.50\00:15:39.47 and have a harvest evangelistic campaign. 00:15:39.50\00:15:43.20 And then number four and it's so important 00:15:43.24\00:15:46.24 is to establish. 00:15:46.27\00:15:48.34 We build a church in that town 00:15:48.38\00:15:50.85 and since the government does not allow new churches, 00:15:50.88\00:15:55.75 we build a house and that house becomes the church 00:15:55.78\00:16:00.06 or we buy one in that town. 00:16:00.09\00:16:03.32 And lately we've been buying more than building. 00:16:03.36\00:16:06.33 We began initially building and God has blessed. 00:16:06.36\00:16:11.07 Even with seven new ones this year. 00:16:11.10\00:16:14.17 Praise the Lord, seven new house churches. 00:16:14.20\00:16:17.34 It is amazing especially when you think about 00:16:17.37\00:16:19.74 how you started with just 00:16:19.77\00:16:21.68 a very small Sabbath school group 00:16:21.71\00:16:24.01 and this is how the Lord is leading. 00:16:24.05\00:16:25.98 Luis, how did you 00:16:26.01\00:16:27.55 become involved with World Youth Group? 00:16:27.58\00:16:30.15 Interesting question. 00:16:30.19\00:16:31.82 I had recently graduate from the seminary in 2006 00:16:31.85\00:16:36.86 and by the end of that year the president of my conference 00:16:36.89\00:16:41.36 central conference approached me and he told me, 00:16:41.40\00:16:45.33 Luis, we know that you kind of speak some English 00:16:45.37\00:16:49.47 and there is a team coming from America. 00:16:49.50\00:16:53.07 They are going to preach and we need a translator. 00:16:53.11\00:16:56.88 Would you help us? 00:16:56.91\00:16:59.11 And I was so scared. In fact, very scared. 00:16:59.15\00:17:02.82 But my wife she was still studying at the seminary 00:17:02.85\00:17:08.32 and I told him "Well, what if you make some arrangements 00:17:08.36\00:17:13.06 so she can go out of the seminary early 00:17:13.09\00:17:17.67 and she come to us late because she's an English teacher 00:17:17.70\00:17:20.87 and she is a professional in that area 00:17:20.90\00:17:23.24 then you will have a perfect translator." 00:17:23.27\00:17:26.47 2006 December, 2006 it was out first contact 00:17:26.51\00:17:32.95 with World Youth Group. 00:17:32.98\00:17:34.35 Since then it's been a blessing for us. 00:17:34.38\00:17:36.65 So do you-- 00:17:36.69\00:17:38.69 what is your purpose with World Youth Group? 00:17:38.72\00:17:40.89 Well, you just kind of the link 00:17:40.92\00:17:42.59 between World Youth Group and the seminary students 00:17:42.62\00:17:46.19 or what do you do with World Youth Group? 00:17:46.23\00:17:48.50 Okay. 00:17:48.53\00:17:49.86 World Youth Group is for us, 00:17:49.90\00:17:55.00 it has turned into a lifestyle. 00:17:55.04\00:17:58.34 Good. Wonderful answer. 00:17:58.37\00:18:00.51 More than coworkers, my wife and I 00:18:00.54\00:18:04.48 we feel like Henry's and Arlene's, 00:18:04.51\00:18:07.88 his wife children, you know. 00:18:07.92\00:18:09.68 We are kind of a family 00:18:09.72\00:18:12.02 and we have been 00:18:12.05\00:18:14.06 in incredible, incredible places together 00:18:14.09\00:18:16.42 preaching and sharing Christ with people. 00:18:16.46\00:18:20.36 And I feel part of these ministries 00:18:20.40\00:18:23.33 but at the same time 00:18:23.37\00:18:25.87 the Lord led me in His ways, you know. 00:18:25.90\00:18:29.80 Now I'm working as a Spirit of Prophecy coordinator 00:18:29.84\00:18:32.81 for the Cuban Union 00:18:32.84\00:18:34.68 and this ministry has been working 00:18:34.71\00:18:37.95 in a very close relationship with the union officers 00:18:37.98\00:18:41.38 and also 00:18:41.42\00:18:42.82 with each and every one of the conferences' leaders 00:18:42.85\00:18:45.62 in the whole island. 00:18:45.65\00:18:47.42 We design a five year plan 00:18:47.46\00:18:50.69 so we could train all the Bible workers 00:18:50.73\00:18:53.33 and medical missionaries on the whole island 00:18:53.36\00:18:55.96 and we are planning to train in their future 00:18:56.00\00:18:58.23 the medical professionals 00:18:58.27\00:19:00.67 and also pastors in this powerful tool. 00:19:00.70\00:19:04.57 But at the same time, as I work in the seminary, 00:19:04.61\00:19:08.64 I was a senior pastor and now I'm a fulltime teacher 00:19:08.68\00:19:12.01 and the vice president of the seminary. 00:19:12.05\00:19:14.15 I've been working as a link 00:19:14.18\00:19:16.02 between World Youth Group and the seminary as well 00:19:16.05\00:19:18.29 because our campus 00:19:18.32\00:19:20.32 has been the headquarters for the training program. 00:19:20.36\00:19:23.73 Wonderful. Wonderful. 00:19:23.76\00:19:25.46 How has the most recent developments 00:19:25.49\00:19:28.46 in between Cuba and US relations, 00:19:28.50\00:19:31.93 how is that affecting your ministry? 00:19:31.97\00:19:34.04 Is that you believe 00:19:34.07\00:19:35.40 that's going to really open the doors wider? 00:19:35.44\00:19:37.74 Shelley, I think it is. 00:19:37.77\00:19:39.11 I think it's gonna be much easier to travel. 00:19:39.14\00:19:42.31 It's been very challenging for us in the past. 00:19:42.34\00:19:45.35 It's been very challenging for the first dozen years 00:19:45.38\00:19:50.89 we were many times brought for lengthy questioning 00:19:50.92\00:19:56.83 to the officials. 00:19:56.86\00:19:58.69 That has slowly changed. Good. 00:20:00.40\00:20:02.56 But I think with the lessening of the relation 00:20:02.60\00:20:05.20 or the improving of the relationships 00:20:05.23\00:20:07.34 and the lessening of the austerity 00:20:07.37\00:20:09.64 between the two countries, 00:20:09.67\00:20:11.57 it's gonna be a big impact for Cuba. 00:20:11.61\00:20:13.68 I will say and Luis can jump in. 00:20:13.71\00:20:17.75 I would say that there is a spirit of hope in Cuba 00:20:17.78\00:20:22.22 that things are changing. 00:20:22.25\00:20:24.09 Amen. Good. 00:20:24.12\00:20:25.75 There is hope that maybe we can have more tourism. 00:20:25.79\00:20:31.16 Maybe we can have more opportunities. 00:20:31.19\00:20:34.26 Maybe there will be even some entrepreneurialism 00:20:34.30\00:20:36.90 in our communist system. 00:20:36.93\00:20:39.70 So there is some hope but right now, 00:20:39.73\00:20:42.24 even though to us as Americans, 00:20:42.27\00:20:44.51 it looks like it's already open. 00:20:44.54\00:20:46.64 In Cuba, nothing yet has changed too much 00:20:48.71\00:20:52.35 except talking. 00:20:52.38\00:20:53.72 They don't have much of the infrastructure 00:20:53.75\00:20:55.58 to support it either, do they? 00:20:55.62\00:20:57.09 We only have a couple of minutes. 00:20:57.12\00:20:59.02 But I want to ask this 00:20:59.05\00:21:01.16 and I think it is good right now. 00:21:01.19\00:21:03.49 You are looking for volunteers, what are you looking for? 00:21:03.53\00:21:07.16 How can the 3ABN audience help World Youth Group? 00:21:07.20\00:21:13.74 Shelley, thank you for asking. 00:21:13.77\00:21:17.31 I'll say this with all my heart, 00:21:17.34\00:21:20.28 my wife and I's heart is ended up in Cuba. 00:21:20.31\00:21:24.95 And my son here has been my mentor 00:21:24.98\00:21:31.12 but God has shown us that with one month training 00:21:32.99\00:21:38.16 it's incredible the souls, 00:21:38.19\00:21:41.40 I would love to tell you 00:21:41.43\00:21:42.76 a personal story of a changed life. 00:21:42.80\00:21:44.50 Over one hundred baptisms. 00:21:44.53\00:21:45.93 You can tell it in about, 00:21:45.97\00:21:47.30 we got about a minute and half left. 00:21:47.34\00:21:49.50 But instead of telling you that 00:21:49.54\00:21:52.74 I want to further answer your question 00:21:52.77\00:21:55.71 and with only one month training 00:21:55.74\00:21:59.11 we have people all over the island now, 00:21:59.15\00:22:01.45 in new areas planting churches, helping people 00:22:01.48\00:22:05.89 and we are doing evangelism in those places 00:22:05.92\00:22:08.26 and winning souls and buying houses. 00:22:08.29\00:22:11.49 So we need houses, 00:22:11.53\00:22:13.23 we need young people to go with us to Cuba 00:22:13.26\00:22:17.07 to have evangelistic campaigns much like ShareHim, 00:22:17.10\00:22:20.20 going down the area and doing an evangelistic campaign. 00:22:20.24\00:22:23.61 But we are building a school now in Cuba. 00:22:23.64\00:22:26.57 For a six month training program. 00:22:26.61\00:22:28.81 Instead of one month, we need six months. 00:22:28.84\00:22:30.95 It's a higher amount of training. 00:22:30.98\00:22:34.35 This is so exciting. 00:22:34.38\00:22:35.72 I want to be sure, 00:22:35.75\00:22:37.19 you know, we're gonna have to have you all come to 3ABN 00:22:37.22\00:22:40.42 and give a more lengthy interview 00:22:40.46\00:22:44.49 because this is such an incredible work. 00:22:44.53\00:22:47.23 The glory to God. 00:22:47.26\00:22:48.60 I want to be certain that those of you at home, 00:22:48.63\00:22:50.57 if you want to contribute financially, 00:22:50.60\00:22:53.54 if the Holy Spirit is impressing you 00:22:53.57\00:22:55.27 to support this ministry 00:22:55.30\00:22:57.11 or if perhaps you are part of a youth group 00:22:57.14\00:22:59.97 you would like to go to Cuba, 00:23:00.01\00:23:02.81 go through the training program, 00:23:02.84\00:23:05.41 become involved in evangelism in Cuba. 00:23:05.45\00:23:08.28 God is opening doors 00:23:08.32\00:23:09.65 and we don't know how long they will be open 00:23:09.68\00:23:11.92 but how you can reach them is to go to 00:23:11.95\00:23:14.89 WorldYouthGroup.org 00:23:14.92\00:23:19.39 and God will bless you. 00:23:19.43\00:23:20.76 Thank you so much for joining us. 00:23:20.80\00:23:22.36 Thank you so much, Shelley. We really appreciate it. 00:23:22.40\00:23:23.73 Thank you. Our pleasure. 00:23:23.77\00:23:26.67 Oh, what a wonderful story 00:23:26.70\00:23:28.47 and what a great story of brining redemption 00:23:28.50\00:23:31.37 full circle. 00:23:31.41\00:23:32.74 Up next, 00:23:32.77\00:23:34.28 Danny Shelton had a chance to talk with Jim Rennie 00:23:34.31\00:23:36.81 and Dale Mole and this is really kind of 00:23:36.85\00:23:39.35 a thank you sort of an interview. 00:23:39.38\00:23:41.55 You recall that in 2015 00:23:41.58\00:23:43.05 or early on there was a really terrific earthquake 00:23:43.08\00:23:45.49 in the country of Nepal. 00:23:45.52\00:23:46.89 City of Katmandu was hit very, very hard 00:23:46.92\00:23:49.76 and the one Adventist hospital, 00:23:49.79\00:23:51.59 the one institution being supported 00:23:51.63\00:23:54.30 by Asian Aid was destroyed 00:23:54.33\00:23:56.40 to the point that they were actually doing surgeries 00:23:56.43\00:23:58.33 in the courtyard, in the garden, parking lot 00:23:58.37\00:24:02.00 of that particular hospital. 00:24:02.04\00:24:03.81 Well, Asian Aid came, Jim Rennie came 00:24:03.84\00:24:06.24 and we put the burden before you. 00:24:06.27\00:24:09.18 They needed some $200,000 00:24:09.21\00:24:11.18 to get that hospital back up and running. 00:24:11.21\00:24:13.45 And the reason it was so important is 00:24:13.48\00:24:14.82 because there really is no other Adventist institution 00:24:14.85\00:24:17.65 in the country 00:24:17.69\00:24:19.02 that's doing the kind of work that that hospital is doing. 00:24:19.05\00:24:21.42 And you responded 00:24:21.46\00:24:23.09 and you responded in a great and marvelous way. 00:24:23.12\00:24:25.39 Over and above the $200,000, $320,000 came in total came in. 00:24:25.43\00:24:30.33 The hospital is back up and running now 00:24:30.37\00:24:32.53 and that center of influence, that little light there 00:24:32.57\00:24:35.70 in the country side near Katmandu 00:24:35.74\00:24:38.54 is still burning brightly for the cause of Christ. 00:24:38.57\00:24:41.94 Men and women are coming, they are being treated 00:24:41.98\00:24:44.25 but they are also being introduced 00:24:44.28\00:24:46.18 to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. 00:24:46.21\00:24:47.75 And so Jim Rennie, Dale Mole 00:24:47.78\00:24:49.72 had a chance to talk with Danny Shelton. 00:24:49.75\00:24:52.85 I'm sitting here with Jim Rennie, 00:24:55.56\00:24:57.83 long time friend and coworkers in evangelism, 00:24:57.86\00:25:01.96 CEO of Asian Aid. 00:25:02.00\00:25:04.63 And, Jim, it's good to have you here today. 00:25:04.67\00:25:06.23 Thanks, Danny. 00:25:06.27\00:25:07.60 And we've been working together, 00:25:07.64\00:25:08.97 your organization and ours for a long time, 00:25:09.00\00:25:10.97 haven't we? Yes. 00:25:11.01\00:25:12.51 Then I would be blessed to see 00:25:12.54\00:25:13.88 lot of projects around the world 00:25:13.91\00:25:16.18 but we are gonna talk about special project today 00:25:16.21\00:25:19.15 because I have here Dr. Dale Mole 00:25:19.18\00:25:21.68 and CEO of Scheer Memorial Adventist Hospital. 00:25:21.72\00:25:26.05 Is that right? Yes, correct. 00:25:26.09\00:25:27.72 Okay. And where is that? 00:25:27.76\00:25:29.09 That's in Nepal. In Nepal. 00:25:29.12\00:25:31.19 Something happened sometime ago in Nepal 00:25:31.23\00:25:33.76 that got your attention, 00:25:33.80\00:25:35.26 got you involved and you got 3ABN involved. 00:25:35.30\00:25:38.10 Tell us a little bit what happened in Nepal. 00:25:38.13\00:25:41.57 Well, on the 25th of May 00:25:41.60\00:25:45.07 we had a 7.8 magnitude earthquake. 00:25:45.11\00:25:49.18 The epicenter was about 60 kilometers 00:25:49.21\00:25:52.38 away from Katmandu 00:25:52.41\00:25:55.08 and it caused a massive destruction 00:25:55.12\00:25:58.65 and loss of life. 00:25:58.69\00:26:00.62 And then three weeks later, on the 12th of May 00:26:00.66\00:26:03.89 we had another major earthquake. 00:26:03.93\00:26:05.89 This one was a little closer to Mount Everest 00:26:05.93\00:26:08.76 and again, caused the lot of destruction. 00:26:08.80\00:26:11.03 All right. Were you there at the time? 00:26:11.07\00:26:13.23 I was there for the second earthquake. 00:26:13.27\00:26:15.34 Wow. 00:26:15.37\00:26:16.71 What was that like just... 00:26:16.74\00:26:18.47 Well, it-- you know, I lived in Southern California 00:26:18.51\00:26:22.28 so, yeah, I was kind of used to earthquakes. 00:26:22.31\00:26:26.95 I mean, the Nepalese were fairly terrified. 00:26:26.98\00:26:29.85 And would run out of buildings 00:26:29.88\00:26:32.75 and that-- with the first earthquake, 00:26:32.79\00:26:35.46 we had nine people who were dead on arrival. 00:26:35.49\00:26:39.79 But unfortunately, 00:26:39.83\00:26:41.96 and most of these were from head trauma. 00:26:42.00\00:26:44.43 Things had fallen on their head. 00:26:44.47\00:26:46.20 But of the patients who arrived alive, 00:26:46.23\00:26:50.81 thanks to the effort of the staff 00:26:50.84\00:26:53.61 at Scheer Adventist Hospital. 00:26:53.64\00:26:56.54 They all stayed alive. 00:26:56.58\00:26:58.45 Wonderful. 00:26:58.48\00:27:00.72 Tell me a little bit about the folk in the area, 00:27:00.75\00:27:03.99 do you have any idea 00:27:04.02\00:27:05.35 how many people that you treated? 00:27:05.39\00:27:07.82 You said, all of them came-- Right. 00:27:07.86\00:27:10.23 We actually-- Stayed alive. 00:27:10.26\00:27:11.73 We actually treated over a thousand patients 00:27:11.76\00:27:16.90 who were direct earthquake victims. 00:27:16.93\00:27:19.07 How big staff do you have? Very good. 00:35:09.24\00:35:11.14 Now, Thomas, what I would like to do, 00:35:11.17\00:35:13.44 your ministry is Land of Blessing 00:35:13.48\00:35:16.51 which in Swahili is Dunia Ya Heri. 00:35:16.54\00:35:19.98 Right. Correct. Right? 00:35:20.02\00:35:21.78 Tell us of just a little of your background, 00:35:21.82\00:35:24.55 just a short synopsis of your background 00:35:24.59\00:35:27.26 growing up as a missionaries child 00:35:27.29\00:35:29.86 and what the Lord-- how the Lord from there? 00:35:29.89\00:35:32.19 All right. 00:35:32.23\00:35:33.56 First of all Dunia Ya Heri is a project 00:35:33.60\00:35:35.10 located in Africa in Tanzania. 00:35:35.13\00:35:36.97 Okay. 00:35:37.00\00:35:38.33 And my parents were missionaries 00:35:38.37\00:35:40.34 to Ethiopia and I grew up in Ethiopia as well as Kenya. 00:35:40.37\00:35:44.71 So this project is actually leading me back to my roots. 00:35:44.74\00:35:47.94 Wonderful. 00:35:47.98\00:35:49.31 And I have been working 00:35:49.34\00:35:52.41 in business for most of my life. 00:35:52.45\00:35:54.88 I had a business career for Procter & Gamble 00:35:54.92\00:35:56.65 up to the position of vice president 00:35:56.69\00:35:59.39 for marketing and sales. 00:35:59.42\00:36:01.32 But I gave that up ten years ago 00:36:01.36\00:36:03.39 and I was working for Seminar Schloss Bogenhofen 00:36:03.43\00:36:07.36 which is an Adventist senior college in Austria 00:36:07.40\00:36:11.53 as the finance and administration director. 00:36:11.57\00:36:15.67 But now the Lord has been calling us to new ventures. 00:36:15.70\00:36:19.67 And we have decided that we would leave 00:36:19.71\00:36:24.41 the safe and secure haven of Europe 00:36:24.45\00:36:27.38 and we would be going to Tanzania in the next month 00:36:27.42\00:36:31.62 to set up an orphanage there and possibly further projects 00:36:31.65\00:36:36.39 which I think we will mention at further on. 00:36:36.42\00:36:39.23 All right, wonderful. 00:36:39.26\00:36:40.70 Now, Beate, I know that you had a beautiful home 00:36:40.73\00:36:43.93 in Austria, felt very secure. 00:36:43.97\00:36:46.57 How did you feel when Thomas called you to say, 00:36:46.60\00:36:49.50 "I think this is where the Lord is leading us. 00:36:49.54\00:36:51.34 We need to sell our home 00:36:51.37\00:36:52.91 and move of all places to Tanzania." 00:36:52.94\00:36:57.55 You know, there is two hearts beating in you 00:36:57.58\00:37:01.35 and you think the plans were what Thomas have done 00:37:01.38\00:37:06.22 or the works so we have the safety place 00:37:06.25\00:37:08.72 so we are paid and we can live for free 00:37:08.76\00:37:12.89 and then the other thoughts 00:37:12.93\00:37:17.27 now we are living in the last day 00:37:17.30\00:37:20.14 and we can do something better. 00:37:20.17\00:37:23.00 So we can dedicate it, 00:37:23.04\00:37:24.91 our house and the money to the project 00:37:24.94\00:37:28.01 because we can take nothing with us even if we die 00:37:28.04\00:37:33.52 or whatever made happen. 00:37:33.55\00:37:36.15 So why not do this 00:37:36.18\00:37:39.42 and to take into a heaven soul. 00:37:39.45\00:37:44.03 Amen. 00:37:44.06\00:37:45.39 And I admire you so 00:37:45.43\00:37:46.76 because they have actually have sold their home, packed up 00:37:46.80\00:37:49.56 and they are putting proceeds 00:37:49.60\00:37:50.93 from the sale into this project. 00:37:50.97\00:37:53.03 Now, let's talk about 00:37:53.07\00:37:54.90 the Land Blessing project itself. 00:37:54.94\00:37:57.97 Why did you choose Tanzania? 00:37:58.01\00:38:01.11 Well, first of all, the Africa in general 00:38:01.14\00:38:04.15 has a lot of problem with AIDS 00:38:04.18\00:38:08.05 and as far as the decision for Tanzania is concerned, 00:38:08.08\00:38:11.59 on one side we had to look at the political aspect, 00:38:11.62\00:38:14.56 economic aspect, of course, 00:38:14.59\00:38:16.02 it's important to live in a country 00:38:16.06\00:38:17.53 which is fairly safe within the third world. 00:38:17.56\00:38:20.96 On the other side, of course, 00:38:21.00\00:38:22.33 we looked also on the needs of that specific country 00:38:22.36\00:38:26.13 and Tanzania has in average 00:38:26.17\00:38:29.10 over 20 percent of the population 00:38:29.14\00:38:31.21 infected with AIDS. 00:38:31.24\00:38:33.44 So you have a lot of AIDS orphans. 00:38:33.48\00:38:36.18 These are little children that do not have parents 00:38:36.21\00:38:39.48 because they died of AIDS 00:38:39.51\00:38:41.38 and their relatives don't have sufficient funds 00:38:41.42\00:38:45.02 to take care of them. 00:38:45.05\00:38:46.76 And sometimes even the newly married persons, 00:38:46.79\00:38:51.39 if one of the parents died 00:38:51.43\00:38:53.60 do not want to take care of them 00:38:53.63\00:38:54.96 either because it's not their children. 00:38:55.00\00:38:56.33 So there's a lot of misery as far as that is concerned 00:38:56.36\00:38:58.87 amongst little children in Africa 00:38:58.90\00:39:01.54 and we thought to make a difference there 00:39:01.57\00:39:03.61 to help at least 60 children in the future. 00:39:03.64\00:39:07.84 That is so admirable. 00:39:07.88\00:39:09.21 And we have, I have heard you said earlier 00:39:09.24\00:39:11.91 that there was between 1.2 to 2 million 00:39:11.95\00:39:16.55 is the estimated number of children 00:39:16.58\00:39:19.25 who are on the streets, orphans who have no hope or no future. 00:39:19.29\00:39:24.19 Some of whom have been infected with the HIV virus themselves 00:39:24.23\00:39:27.96 others who are not. 00:39:28.00\00:39:29.80 But so how far have you gotten in this project now? 00:39:29.83\00:39:34.94 You are, you were close to retirement, 00:39:34.97\00:39:37.34 you resigned your position, sold your home. 00:39:37.37\00:39:40.78 Tell us about the progress of the project so far. 00:39:40.81\00:39:44.18 Let me tell you a little about the beginning of the project. 00:39:44.21\00:39:46.78 We have a very good friend of ours, this is a lady. 00:39:46.82\00:39:51.29 She lives in Munich in Germany 00:39:51.32\00:39:53.09 who has on the deathbed of her husband 00:39:53.12\00:39:55.96 promised him that was part of the heritage 00:39:55.99\00:39:58.83 she would actually finance an orphanage, 00:39:58.86\00:40:02.56 well, part of an orphanage. 00:40:02.60\00:40:04.57 And because both of them actually 00:40:04.60\00:40:06.53 lost in a tragic way, their son. 00:40:06.57\00:40:10.51 Okay. 00:40:10.54\00:40:11.87 Hence she called me about one and half years ago, 00:40:11.91\00:40:15.04 she said, "Thomas, I'm planning this project, 00:40:15.08\00:40:18.68 would you be willing to help me 00:40:18.71\00:40:20.05 because you have been living in Africa before?" 00:40:20.08\00:40:22.68 And my spontaneous response was "I'm sorry. 00:40:22.72\00:40:25.49 You know, Bogenhofen, my current work is too busy. 00:40:25.52\00:40:28.82 I have little time left in order to spend 00:40:28.86\00:40:31.59 for such important other projects. 00:40:31.63\00:40:34.73 But then sleeping over the issue for a few nights, 00:40:34.76\00:40:37.67 I changed my mind. 00:40:37.70\00:40:39.03 We both changed our mind. 00:40:39.07\00:40:40.40 The Holy Spirit wouldn't let you go. 00:40:40.44\00:40:42.27 You're right. 00:40:42.30\00:40:43.94 So we made our first inspection trip 00:40:43.97\00:40:46.34 in June of last year. 00:40:46.37\00:40:47.98 We inspected in four different locations in Tanzania 00:40:48.01\00:40:52.11 about 10 to 12 different plots 00:40:52.15\00:40:56.35 but we didn't take a final decision. 00:40:56.38\00:40:58.39 We went back in October last year 00:40:58.42\00:41:00.86 and for the plot that interested us the most, 00:41:00.89\00:41:03.89 we first were wanting to be sure 00:41:03.93\00:41:06.29 that there is enough water 00:41:06.33\00:41:07.66 because water is the issue in Africa 00:41:07.70\00:41:10.13 as far as buying land is concerned. 00:41:10.17\00:41:12.23 You can have the most beautiful piece of land 00:41:12.27\00:41:14.07 without water it's not worth anything. 00:41:14.10\00:41:16.07 So the previous owner actually allowed us 00:41:16.10\00:41:18.94 which is not very common to dig on his property for water. 00:41:18.97\00:41:25.45 We found a company which was in a week 00:41:25.48\00:41:27.98 was able to dig a 70 meter hole 00:41:28.02\00:41:31.32 and we found enough water 3,000 liters per hour 00:41:31.35\00:41:36.29 which will be sufficient for the whole project. 00:41:36.32\00:41:39.49 So did that-- by discovering the water, 00:41:39.53\00:41:42.56 did that up the price of the land or? 00:41:42.60\00:41:44.77 Unfortunately-- well, fortunately it didn't. 00:41:44.80\00:41:47.40 It did not. 00:41:47.44\00:41:48.77 The seller actually kept the same price 00:41:48.80\00:41:50.14 but there was the danger involved 00:41:50.17\00:41:51.91 that the seller would actually increase the price 00:41:51.94\00:41:53.81 finding the water. 00:41:53.84\00:41:55.18 A wonderful then that God has taken you 00:41:55.21\00:41:56.98 to a spot and it's about an hour 00:41:57.01\00:41:59.65 outside of what major city? 00:41:59.68\00:42:01.48 It's the major city of Tanzania. 00:42:01.52\00:42:04.19 It's not the capital is Dar es Salaam 00:42:04.22\00:42:06.49 with 4.4 million inhabitants. 00:42:06.52\00:42:08.39 All right. 00:42:08.42\00:42:09.89 The project itself is 50 kilometers, 00:42:09.92\00:42:12.09 about 35 miles outside of Dar es Salaam. 00:42:12.13\00:42:15.53 It takes about an hour to get there. 00:42:15.56\00:42:17.07 All right. 00:42:17.10\00:42:18.43 And so the Lord has provided that land you've already built 00:42:18.47\00:42:21.04 a guard house there which was your first priority. 00:42:21.07\00:42:24.34 Explain to our viewers 00:42:24.37\00:42:25.97 why a guard house was so important? 00:42:26.01\00:42:27.88 It's very interesting. Yes. Yes. 00:42:27.91\00:42:29.34 And Africa and people in Africa 00:42:29.38\00:42:32.85 like to cook with wood 00:42:32.88\00:42:34.58 and of course, people are very poor, 00:42:34.62\00:42:36.69 they go into the woods, they go into the wilderness, 00:42:36.72\00:42:39.09 they pick up which ever wood they can find. 00:42:39.12\00:42:41.59 They cut some trees 00:42:41.62\00:42:43.16 and of course, they don't limit 00:42:43.19\00:42:45.09 to cutting their own trees. 00:42:45.13\00:42:46.46 They also like to cut other people's trees 00:42:46.49\00:42:48.50 and since the property has a lot of nice big old trees, 00:42:48.53\00:42:51.77 mango trees, cashew nut trees, 00:42:51.80\00:42:54.67 we wanted to be sure 00:42:54.70\00:42:56.27 that nobody would actually come 00:42:56.30\00:42:58.21 and destroy the property so to say. 00:42:58.24\00:43:01.61 So we employed two Bible workers 00:43:01.64\00:43:04.38 with the help of the Adventist church there 00:43:04.41\00:43:07.42 and some friends 00:43:07.45\00:43:09.15 who are taking care of the property now. 00:43:09.18\00:43:11.15 We built a little house for them 00:43:11.19\00:43:13.66 of around 400 square feet, 40 square meters. 00:43:13.69\00:43:18.46 When one of the rooms, two rooms 00:43:18.49\00:43:21.20 and one of the gardens we live or is living 00:43:21.23\00:43:24.30 and we've decided for the time being 00:43:24.33\00:43:26.03 at least move into the other rooms. 00:43:26.07\00:43:27.70 Oh, that's gonna be a drastic change. 00:43:27.74\00:43:30.31 But now we have a picture 00:43:30.34\00:43:31.81 that you have brought with you of the land itself. 00:43:31.84\00:43:35.01 And this is a beautiful plot of land as you can see 00:43:35.04\00:43:38.78 but we also-- you have a diagram 00:43:38.81\00:43:41.42 that you showed me of your building project. 00:43:41.45\00:43:44.69 And we would like to put that diagram up now 00:43:44.72\00:43:46.65 and show you and let you explain 00:43:46.69\00:43:49.79 what the project is going to entail. 00:43:49.82\00:43:53.50 First of all, you can see here a village type of setup 00:43:53.53\00:43:58.10 for the homes for the children 00:43:58.13\00:44:01.10 and there is different homes on the plot. 00:44:01.14\00:44:03.94 There is a nursery which is the first building 00:44:03.97\00:44:05.94 we will start to build. 00:44:05.97\00:44:07.31 Now this is at the bottom. 00:44:54.89\00:44:57.16 It's also serving for the chapel 00:44:57.19\00:44:58.79 and for the church, yes, 00:44:58.83\00:45:00.40 to have common worship there 00:45:00.43\00:45:01.90 in the mornings and the evenings, 00:45:01.93\00:45:03.33 to have Sabbath worship there 00:45:03.37\00:45:05.63 and so that will be also even for visitors 00:45:05.67\00:45:07.70 that come from the village 00:45:07.74\00:45:09.07 that would like to attend church service there. 00:45:09.10\00:45:11.31 So this will be an important building 00:45:11.34\00:45:13.27 to be putting up in the next few months as well. 00:45:13.31\00:45:16.01 Amen. 00:45:16.04\00:45:17.38 Well, okay, in the last few minutes that we have 00:45:17.41\00:45:19.48 I just wanted to talk to you about 00:45:19.51\00:45:22.28 the future of this as well. 00:45:22.32\00:45:24.35 You're planning to house 60 orphans 00:45:24.39\00:45:28.66 and I believe you've told me that the first-- 00:45:28.69\00:45:31.53 next two buildings are already funded or semi-funded 00:45:31.56\00:45:34.76 by which you are doing. 00:45:34.80\00:45:36.20 So what in the future, what are you planning on doing? 00:45:36.23\00:45:41.60 You had a idea for a sanitarium? 00:45:41.64\00:45:43.77 Yes, of course, we first ever want to see 00:45:43.81\00:45:46.21 that we accommodate as many children as possible. 00:45:46.24\00:45:49.64 We do need some-- 00:45:49.68\00:45:51.01 we do need additional support for that, 00:45:51.05\00:45:53.38 either be it with volunteers that have building 00:45:53.42\00:45:56.05 as some of plot, some of the buildings there 00:45:56.08\00:45:58.22 are with financial support. 00:45:58.25\00:45:59.59 Buildings are not too expensive. 00:45:59.62\00:46:01.26 We calculated around $50,000 to $60,000 per building. 00:46:01.29\00:46:05.86 So it's an over seeable amount. 00:46:05.89\00:46:09.06 But we also believe that it's important 00:46:09.10\00:46:11.43 that we help ourselves in the future. 00:46:11.47\00:46:13.34 In other words, we don't want to have an orphanage 00:46:13.37\00:46:16.74 where we have to depend on long term donations. 00:46:16.77\00:46:20.94 So our idea is to create a clinic, 00:46:20.98\00:46:24.28 a sanitarium on the other part of the property 00:46:24.31\00:46:29.05 which is a very beautiful setting. 00:46:29.08\00:46:30.89 Actually, it has a view over the ocean as well 00:46:30.92\00:46:34.22 where we invite persons to come for health programs. 00:46:34.26\00:46:37.99 Wonderful. 00:46:38.03\00:46:39.36 When you start programs coming from Europe, 00:46:39.39\00:46:42.00 maybe even from the States 00:46:42.03\00:46:44.30 or maybe the upper class of Tanzania itself 00:46:44.33\00:46:47.74 and with the income and profit of part of the, 00:46:47.77\00:46:51.81 of part of the sanitarium, 00:46:51.84\00:46:53.17 we would like to cross finance the orphanage. 00:46:53.21\00:46:55.78 That's wonderful. 00:46:55.81\00:46:57.15 So we are looking at a project now 00:46:57.18\00:46:59.75 that by April of 2016 they will be ready 00:46:59.78\00:47:04.75 to accept volunteers who might come over 00:47:04.79\00:47:07.69 to help with the construction. 00:47:07.72\00:47:09.86 And then, maybe by May, June of 2016 00:47:09.89\00:47:13.23 you will be looking for volunteers 00:47:13.26\00:47:14.96 who will be for social work, to help with the children, 00:47:15.00\00:47:19.13 maybe educational purposes. 00:47:19.17\00:47:21.20 And I just believe 00:47:21.24\00:47:22.67 when we think about these poor little children, 00:47:22.70\00:47:25.44 sometimes we think that "What can one project may-- 00:47:25.47\00:47:29.98 how can that make a difference 00:47:30.01\00:47:31.35 if you have two million orphan children?" 00:47:31.38\00:47:33.88 Well, it makes all the difference in the world 00:47:33.92\00:47:35.72 to those 60 who have the opportunity 00:47:35.75\00:47:38.75 to have a new life and have hope. 00:47:38.79\00:47:41.49 So if the Holy Spirit 00:47:41.52\00:47:42.86 is impressing upon you to support this project, 00:47:42.89\00:47:46.73 you can go to their website which is 00:47:46.76\00:47:49.60 Land-of-Blessing. 00:47:49.63\00:47:54.10 So Land-of-Blessing.org 00:47:54.14\00:47:58.81 and you can find all of their pictures 00:47:58.84\00:48:01.81 and see what they are doing in the progress they are making 00:48:01.84\00:48:04.65 there on the website. 00:48:04.68\00:48:06.05 But you are also a member of OCI Outpost. 00:48:06.08\00:48:09.25 We are in the process, yes. 00:48:09.28\00:48:10.62 In the process of becoming a member of OCI out-- 00:48:10.65\00:48:14.56 Now I can't say that. 00:48:14.59\00:48:15.92 Outpost ministries. 00:48:15.96\00:48:17.29 Outpost-- OCI Outpost what is it? 00:48:17.33\00:48:23.00 I can't think of it. OCI Outpost. 00:48:23.03\00:48:24.60 OCI Outpost, well, anyway it is a 501(c)(3) organization. 00:48:24.63\00:48:31.54 Outpost Centers International. 00:48:31.57\00:48:32.91 Yeah, Outpost Centers, right, not ministries. 00:48:32.94\00:48:34.31 That's what you call a brain freeze 00:48:34.34\00:48:36.31 but you can go on their website there is a link there 00:48:36.34\00:48:39.11 and if would like to make a donation toward this project, 00:48:39.15\00:48:42.28 to help these children, then you can. 00:48:42.32\00:48:45.19 And I just have to say it is so encouraging 00:48:45.22\00:48:49.66 that God has given you the fearlessness 00:48:49.69\00:48:53.29 to step out and to do this 00:48:53.33\00:48:54.90 when you had a comfortable lifestyle. 00:48:54.93\00:48:57.30 But as you said, Beate, time is short, 00:48:57.33\00:48:59.70 the Lord is returning soon 00:48:59.73\00:49:01.54 and we all need to be doing what we can. 00:49:01.57\00:49:03.97 So thank you very much. 00:49:04.01\00:49:05.84 Prayerfully support this ministry 00:49:05.87\00:49:09.01 and all ministries like it 00:49:09.04\00:49:10.55 because it makes a huge difference 00:49:10.58\00:49:13.62 for the kingdom of God 00:49:13.65\00:49:15.35 when little children can come to know Him 00:49:15.38\00:49:17.55 and they have plans to use the children 00:49:17.59\00:49:20.59 for Bible workers, they had plans to do 00:49:20.62\00:49:23.69 health seminars when the sanitarium starts 00:49:23.73\00:49:26.90 and hopefully maybe even turn 00:49:26.93\00:49:28.50 the tide of HIV infection in that area. 00:49:28.53\00:49:31.80 So God bless you and thank you so much 00:49:31.83\00:49:34.44 for considering this. 00:49:34.47\00:49:35.80 Thank you so much.
