This program. 00:01:13.23\00:01:14.57 This is gonna be a great program today. 00:01:14.60\00:01:16.44 I know I'm excited. 00:01:16.47\00:01:17.81 And-- absolutely. I'm excited. 00:01:17.84\00:01:19.27 Jesus said, "Go ye unto all the world." 00:01:19.31\00:01:21.54 And while we sometimes think about and we should, 00:01:21.58\00:01:24.01 going overseas and going you know, 00:01:24.05\00:01:26.25 to Russia and all these different countries 00:01:26.28\00:01:28.75 which we've, 3ABN has done and to New Guinea, 00:01:28.78\00:01:31.59 to Philippines and, you know, around the world 00:01:31.62\00:01:33.59 and going to Europe and all these places. 00:01:33.62\00:01:35.29 Sometimes we need to think about home too, right. 00:01:35.32\00:01:37.49 Absolutely. 00:01:37.53\00:01:38.86 And there is a lot of people around us 00:01:38.89\00:01:41.26 that need to hear about the Lord Jesus Christ 00:01:41.30\00:01:44.80 and about His saving power. 00:01:44.83\00:01:46.17 Yes. 00:01:46.20\00:01:47.54 And today, we have some folk that are in ministry 00:01:47.57\00:01:50.94 and we're gonna talk to these folk 00:01:50.97\00:01:52.57 and see where they're from. 00:01:52.61\00:01:54.04 Are you excited? I'm excited. 00:01:54.08\00:01:55.41 I'm too. I'm ready. 00:01:55.44\00:01:56.78 I have a feeling you have some questions 00:01:56.81\00:01:58.41 for the young lady, right? 00:01:58.45\00:01:59.78 I do, I do. Okay, all right. 00:01:59.81\00:02:01.28 We have Andy and Naomi Weaver, right? 00:02:01.32\00:02:04.85 All right. It's so good to have you here. 00:02:04.89\00:02:06.65 Thank you for inviting us. It's a pleasure. 00:02:06.69\00:02:08.29 And, now you all, where are you from? 00:02:08.32\00:02:11.09 I'm from North Central Ohio. Okay. 00:02:11.13\00:02:14.16 Now if I didn't know any better, 00:02:14.20\00:02:16.06 I would think they were Amish 00:02:16.10\00:02:17.77 because I have a little background 00:02:17.80\00:02:19.97 with the Amish when I was a young kid. 00:02:20.00\00:02:22.50 My family, my Uncle Olands they had a lot of kids 00:02:22.54\00:02:25.41 and had a lot of kids 00:02:25.44\00:02:26.81 and my grandma and grandpa Shelton, 00:02:26.84\00:02:28.28 we would go up in Northern Indiana 00:02:28.31\00:02:30.91 and the summer times, and we would pick tomatoes. 00:02:30.95\00:02:33.31 So we lived with the Amish, either in Amish houses 00:02:33.35\00:02:36.28 and with no running water and electricity and, Yvonne, 00:02:36.32\00:02:39.49 we even lived in a barn for time or two 00:02:39.52\00:02:41.42 and we'd put cardboard between us 00:02:41.46\00:02:43.43 to partition off the families. 00:02:43.46\00:02:45.96 And so we know a little bit about Amish lifestyle 00:02:45.99\00:02:48.70 and I have some Amish friends. 00:02:48.73\00:02:50.07 Now, but you guys, 00:02:50.10\00:02:51.53 almost dressed and look like Amish. 00:02:51.57\00:02:54.40 Are we just seeing things or are you... 00:02:54.44\00:02:56.40 No. 00:02:56.44\00:02:57.77 Or you just you just very, you dressed very conservative. 00:02:57.81\00:03:00.61 No, we are Amish. We grew up Amish. 00:03:00.64\00:03:02.41 We grew up like this. 00:03:02.44\00:03:03.78 Oh, okay. Very much like this. 00:03:03.81\00:03:05.15 We just, well, we are Seventh-day Adventist now. 00:03:05.18\00:03:08.12 But I guess we consider ourselves 00:03:08.15\00:03:10.19 Amish Seventh-day Adventists. 00:03:10.22\00:03:11.95 Okay. 00:03:11.99\00:03:13.36 Is-- I'm under impression that the Amish, 00:03:13.39\00:03:16.93 that it's a religion, right? 00:03:16.96\00:03:19.09 Is it a religion, 00:03:19.13\00:03:20.46 is it a culture, like what is it? 00:03:20.50\00:03:22.86 I believe it started out as a culture. 00:03:22.90\00:03:24.80 But it has definitely become a religion. 00:03:24.83\00:03:26.84 Because they will shun you if you don't hold the culture 00:03:26.87\00:03:29.97 and you know, if shunning is, 00:03:30.01\00:03:32.01 I mean, shunning shouldn't be, have anything 00:03:32.04\00:03:34.58 to do with culture only. 00:03:34.61\00:03:36.24 So it's obviously a religion by now. 00:03:36.28\00:03:39.21 Okay, all right. 00:03:39.25\00:03:40.82 What do the Amish believe in? 00:03:40.85\00:03:42.52 What are some of the tenants of the Amish faith? 00:03:42.55\00:03:45.05 Well, their main, I mean, 00:03:45.09\00:03:48.42 they believe they are Christians. 00:03:48.46\00:03:49.92 I mean, they believe in Jesus. 00:03:49.96\00:03:51.29 But they very much believe that is, Jesus plus Amish. 00:03:51.33\00:03:54.80 If you are-- Jesus plus however you are brought up, 00:03:54.83\00:03:57.40 because if you read in 2 Timothy 3:14 00:03:57.43\00:04:01.44 I think, might be 3:16. 00:04:01.47\00:04:04.57 Paul told-- wrote to Timothy and he said 00:04:04.61\00:04:06.98 that he told him to keep all-- 00:04:07.01\00:04:08.88 keep the things that he was taught from his youth. 00:04:08.91\00:04:11.08 And that is their gospel. 00:04:11.11\00:04:12.58 I mean, that is their Bible. Okay. Okay. 00:04:12.61\00:04:15.15 That's how they control their people you see. 00:04:15.18\00:04:16.82 Well, may be the Seventh-day it's the Sabbath 00:04:16.85\00:04:18.49 but you are not taught like that 00:04:18.52\00:04:19.85 and Paul teaches that. 00:04:19.89\00:04:21.99 If you were not brought up like that, you cannot change. 00:04:22.02\00:04:25.26 Oh, wow. 00:04:25.29\00:04:26.63 That's how they-- That is their whole big-- 00:04:26.66\00:04:28.50 So if you talk to the Amish, if you show them truth, 00:04:28.53\00:04:31.47 that's what-- that's going to be their response. 00:04:31.50\00:04:33.34 Well, you were not brought up like that 00:04:33.37\00:04:34.70 and that's what they are referring to. 00:04:34.74\00:04:36.10 I was always surprised 00:04:36.14\00:04:37.47 because I do some dealing with the Amish here, 00:04:37.51\00:04:41.41 you know, we're in a farming community 00:04:41.44\00:04:43.01 and South Illinois, it's a lot of country 00:04:43.04\00:04:45.75 but I'm surprised how much they really have changed 00:04:45.78\00:04:49.28 since I was a kid 00:04:49.32\00:04:51.22 and lived in Northern Indiana on the summers. 00:04:51.25\00:04:54.02 Portland area and Redkey, little areas up there, 00:04:54.06\00:04:57.46 how much they've changed 00:04:57.49\00:04:58.83 while they still seem very, very conservative. 00:04:58.86\00:05:01.46 We use the term backwards. 00:05:01.50\00:05:03.16 But you know, it doesn't mean anything 00:05:03.20\00:05:04.83 except it's not like where we are. 00:05:04.87\00:05:06.23 They live like you think 150 years ago or 200 years ago. 00:05:06.27\00:05:10.84 I'm surprised that a lot of them use batteries, 00:05:10.87\00:05:13.44 they some of them can use diesel engines like. 00:05:13.48\00:05:19.35 People that I know, they actually use diesel 00:05:19.38\00:05:21.38 to run their machines to do leather 00:05:21.42\00:05:24.05 and all kinds of stuff. 00:05:24.09\00:05:25.45 And I say, "Is that okay?" 00:05:25.49\00:05:26.82 And they say, "Well, yeah, it's okay." 00:05:26.86\00:05:28.49 And I say, well, do you-- I ask them now. 00:05:28.52\00:05:31.43 They say, "We are going to Wisconsin 00:05:31.46\00:05:32.83 to see our relatives." 00:05:32.86\00:05:34.20 And I say, "Oh, in this weather, 00:05:34.23\00:05:35.86 that's probably tough with your horse and buggy." 00:05:35.90\00:05:37.97 You know what I mean, and they'd say, 00:05:38.00\00:05:39.33 "Well, we don't use horse and buggy." 00:05:39.37\00:05:40.70 I say, "Well, how do you get to there?" 00:05:40.74\00:05:43.04 And they say, "Well, we rent a car 00:05:43.07\00:05:44.54 and we have somebody take us." 00:05:44.57\00:05:45.91 So I gave them a hard time and I don't do this on purpose 00:05:45.94\00:05:48.34 but then we are friends. 00:05:48.38\00:05:49.71 So I say, "Well, let's see, you can rent a car 00:05:49.74\00:05:51.88 but you just can't own one or you can't drive one? 00:05:51.91\00:05:54.58 "Well, yeah." So I say, "Well, how come?" 00:05:54.62\00:05:57.99 "That's just the way it is." 00:05:58.02\00:05:59.72 And that's the answer. So it's very interesting. 00:05:59.75\00:06:01.49 They just say, that's the way it is. 00:06:01.52\00:06:03.16 So it's really deep in tradition. 00:06:03.19\00:06:05.69 And we're gonna find out a lot about that 00:06:05.73\00:06:07.53 and we're gonna find out 00:06:07.56\00:06:08.90 how you guys became Seventh-day Adventists. 00:06:08.93\00:06:11.17 And the work that you are doing now is most amazing. 00:06:11.20\00:06:14.54 And so it's gonna be a great time. 00:06:14.57\00:06:16.04 It's gonna be a fun time, a learning time 00:06:16.07\00:06:18.87 and realize that we have people right here 00:06:18.91\00:06:21.08 in our communities all around us, 00:06:21.11\00:06:23.48 not only those who are Amish 00:06:23.51\00:06:24.85 but people who don't know the Lord 00:06:24.88\00:06:26.25 that we should be witnessing to. 00:06:26.28\00:06:27.92 But different people have different gifts. 00:06:27.95\00:06:30.62 They are in different situations 00:06:30.65\00:06:32.59 where you can minister to other people, 00:06:32.62\00:06:36.09 maybe better than someone else. 00:06:36.12\00:06:37.99 That's right. So that's your gift. 00:06:38.03\00:06:39.36 Right now, speaking of gifts, we have Pastor C.A. Murray. 00:06:39.39\00:06:42.46 And Pastor C.A. Thank you, Pastor C.A. huh. 00:10:33.09\00:10:35.36 Oh, yeah, amen. 00:10:35.40\00:10:36.73 What a great song too. 00:10:36.77\00:10:38.10 Pastor C.A. 00:10:38.13\00:10:39.73 All right, well, we're here 00:10:39.77\00:10:41.10 talking to Andy and Naomi Weaver. 00:10:41.14\00:10:43.41 And y'all from Ohio, 00:10:43.44\00:10:45.44 which is known as Amish country. 00:10:45.47\00:10:47.14 That's right. 00:10:47.18\00:10:48.51 A lot of Amish folk there in Ohio and Indiana, 00:10:48.54\00:10:52.55 I know Southern Illinois and I guess 00:10:52.58\00:10:54.25 many places around the country, 00:10:54.28\00:10:56.35 Wisconsin and so, if you're just joining us, 00:10:56.38\00:11:01.56 these folk, born and raised Amish, 00:11:01.59\00:11:04.36 someone gave them the message, 00:11:04.39\00:11:08.06 well, the Bible message and Seventh-day Adventist. 00:11:08.10\00:11:11.03 We're gonna find out about that. 00:11:11.07\00:11:12.80 And so you all become 00:11:12.83\00:11:14.37 Seventh-day Adventist Christians. 00:11:14.40\00:11:15.90 Amen. 00:11:15.94\00:11:17.27 And now you've been exposed to a lot of the preachers 00:11:17.31\00:11:19.11 and teachers and... 00:11:19.14\00:11:20.48 That's right. Now 3ABN. 00:11:20.51\00:11:21.84 Yeah. 00:11:21.88\00:11:23.21 And on your phone you can get it now 00:11:23.24\00:11:24.58 with the app you know, 00:11:24.61\00:11:25.95 so, we're looking forward to see how all this goes. 00:11:25.98\00:11:28.85 We want to talk to you about, 00:11:28.88\00:11:30.22 okay, give us a little bit about your backgrounds. 00:11:30.25\00:11:32.42 Now you were born and raised Amish 00:11:32.45\00:11:34.92 and you are too, right? 00:11:34.96\00:11:36.29 Yes. 00:11:36.32\00:11:37.66 Okay, were you from the same areas? 00:11:37.69\00:11:39.03 Yes, we were not born in the same neighborhood. 00:11:39.06\00:11:41.46 But-- Okay. 00:11:41.50\00:11:42.83 Both of our parents moved to an Amish community 00:11:42.86\00:11:44.97 that we ended up being neighbors 00:11:45.00\00:11:46.33 and we went to school together. 00:11:46.37\00:11:47.70 Okay. 00:11:47.74\00:11:49.07 And there was nothing romantic about it. 00:11:49.10\00:11:50.44 I had no idea what was gonna happen. 00:11:50.47\00:11:51.81 But after we grew up, we eventually got married. 00:11:51.84\00:11:55.58 And my dad was a bishop 00:11:55.61\00:11:57.55 and her dad was a deacon in the church. 00:11:57.58\00:11:59.78 Okay. 00:11:59.81\00:12:01.15 So in the Amish, do they help pick the wives and husbands 00:12:01.18\00:12:06.12 or do they allow the Amish young people to pick their own? 00:12:06.15\00:12:10.29 No, you can choose your own 00:12:10.33\00:12:11.86 as long as you stay within the denomination 00:12:11.89\00:12:13.96 'cause there is a lot of different Amish denominations 00:12:14.00\00:12:15.76 that it's like Old Order, New Order 00:12:15.80\00:12:17.33 and Swartzentruber and so on. 00:12:17.37\00:12:19.13 So as long as you stay within your circle, 00:12:19.17\00:12:21.30 you can choose your own pretty much. 00:12:21.34\00:12:22.67 Now if you get a really, you find a real bad girl 00:12:22.70\00:12:25.71 and then your parents might do their very best 00:12:25.74\00:12:28.64 just like anybody else would say, she's terrible. 00:12:28.68\00:12:31.48 But they won't stop, literally stop you. 00:12:31.51\00:12:33.92 You can choose. Okay. 00:12:33.95\00:12:35.88 You are giving us a real glimpse 00:12:35.92\00:12:37.62 into the Amish lifestyle which you know, 00:12:37.65\00:12:41.42 which I know our viewers would be really interested 00:12:41.46\00:12:43.96 in sharing and finding out. 00:12:43.99\00:12:48.50 When you are growing up, is it, 00:12:48.53\00:12:52.87 you're very insular, right, you're very-- 00:12:52.90\00:12:55.37 you stay within your own culture 00:12:55.40\00:12:57.41 for everything. 00:12:57.44\00:12:58.77 That's right. 00:12:58.81\00:13:00.14 So there's not much interaction outside of that culture. 00:13:00.18\00:13:03.58 Well, you certainly have your own culture. 00:13:03.61\00:13:06.31 You have your own little world. 00:13:06.35\00:13:07.68 You have your own education system, 00:13:07.72\00:13:09.45 you have your own church, 00:13:09.48\00:13:10.82 you have your own dry goods stores and everything. 00:13:10.85\00:13:13.46 And so that's one of the things that makes it really difficult 00:13:13.49\00:13:15.69 to break away from it. 00:13:15.72\00:13:17.06 Because you are really losing everything 00:13:17.09\00:13:18.79 and everything is at stake. 00:13:18.83\00:13:21.16 Although, we did interact with non-Amish a lot 00:13:21.20\00:13:23.93 just like you know local Amish, I mean. 00:13:23.97\00:13:25.77 Sure. 00:13:25.80\00:13:27.14 I mean, that's basically how the Amish make their living 00:13:27.17\00:13:29.14 as to the non-Amish people. 00:13:29.17\00:13:30.71 How do you feel about, as Amish, 00:13:30.74\00:13:35.04 someone like me comes into your wood, 00:13:35.08\00:13:36.78 you do wood working. 00:13:36.81\00:13:38.15 I come into your shop and I'll buy you something, 00:13:38.18\00:13:40.05 how do you look at me? 00:13:40.08\00:13:41.68 Do you look at this person, because we're not Amish, 00:13:41.72\00:13:44.09 obviously, do you say, wow, these people are way out there. 00:13:44.12\00:13:47.69 They don't know the Lord 00:13:47.72\00:13:49.06 or they should dress and act like us. 00:13:49.09\00:13:51.06 They should be Amish. 00:13:51.09\00:13:52.49 How do you-- how do you grown up, 00:13:52.53\00:13:54.00 how do Amish people look at us? 00:13:54.03\00:13:56.23 There is no one rule. 00:13:56.26\00:13:58.53 Some Amish are very distant 00:13:58.57\00:14:00.70 from what we know as English people. 00:14:00.74\00:14:03.04 When I talk about English, that means non-Amish. 00:14:03.07\00:14:06.14 So some Amish are very uncomfortable 00:14:06.17\00:14:08.28 with English people 00:14:08.31\00:14:09.64 and then some of them are obviously very comfortable 00:14:09.68\00:14:11.85 with English people and believe 00:14:11.88\00:14:13.25 that they are gonna be in the kingdom, 00:14:13.28\00:14:15.35 as long as you stay where you are brought up, 00:14:15.38\00:14:17.95 as Paul told Timothy. 00:14:17.99\00:14:19.32 Okay. 00:14:19.35\00:14:20.69 Keep the things that you were told-- 00:14:20.72\00:14:22.42 Stay the way you were brought up. 00:14:22.46\00:14:23.79 So which is a distortion of the Bible. 00:14:23.83\00:14:26.03 But even the leaders, they don't know, 00:14:26.06\00:14:27.50 they don't honor 00:14:27.53\00:14:28.86 they really think that's what that is saying. 00:14:28.90\00:14:30.23 So basically, they believe if you are brought up English, 00:14:30.27\00:14:32.47 then you should remain there, you should be a Christian, 00:14:32.50\00:14:34.70 you should go to church. 00:14:34.74\00:14:36.07 If you were brought up Amish, and then you should stay there. 00:14:36.10\00:14:38.41 Although, they do allow English people 00:14:38.44\00:14:40.04 to come into the Amish church 00:14:40.08\00:14:41.44 if they agree to keep all the rules. 00:14:41.48\00:14:43.48 But that seldom happens, 00:14:43.51\00:14:44.85 especially, among the conservative Amish. 00:14:44.88\00:14:46.72 Now among some of them are liberal Amish 00:14:46.75\00:14:48.85 where they have less rules 00:14:48.88\00:14:50.22 and they have a lot more grey areas and then 00:14:50.25\00:14:52.92 well, sometimes what happens, you get an English boy 00:14:52.95\00:14:56.16 that finds an Amish girl at a restaurant, 00:14:56.19\00:14:58.19 that works at a restaurant and he just can't help it. 00:14:58.23\00:15:00.33 I got to become Amish 00:15:00.36\00:15:02.06 'cause I want this girl and that happens. 00:15:02.10\00:15:04.13 I just met a situation like that 00:15:04.17\00:15:05.73 here a couple of months ago. 00:15:05.77\00:15:07.20 Oh, really. I'm like, well, you're gonna-- 00:15:07.24\00:15:08.90 You're getting into yourself into something. 00:15:08.94\00:15:11.77 You have no idea what you're getting in, you know. 00:15:11.81\00:15:14.01 That's right. So now you all have children. 00:15:14.04\00:15:16.51 Yes, we have seven children. 00:15:16.54\00:15:18.58 Seven children? 00:15:18.61\00:15:19.95 Seven and one on the way? Yeah. I think... 00:15:19.98\00:15:24.55 Oh, here we go. Look at this. 00:15:24.59\00:15:25.92 There is pictures of it. 00:15:25.95\00:15:27.29 Yeah. Look at that. 00:15:27.32\00:15:28.82 The oldest one is... 00:15:28.86\00:15:30.19 She is Mary and she's ten years old. 00:15:30.23\00:15:31.79 Ten years old. Wow. 00:15:31.83\00:15:34.10 Yeah, we have a beautiful family. 00:15:34.13\00:15:35.46 Nothing like them, huh? 00:15:35.50\00:15:36.83 No, nothing like them. Yeah, we have seven. 00:15:36.87\00:15:39.70 Looks like we're gonna have eight. 00:15:39.73\00:15:41.30 My grandmother on my mother's side, 00:15:41.34\00:15:42.90 she had 17 children in less than 18 years. 00:15:42.94\00:15:45.47 Oh, my, my. 00:15:45.51\00:15:46.84 So I tell Naomi, we're half way now. 00:15:46.88\00:15:48.48 Yeah. 00:15:48.51\00:15:51.08 Easy for him to say. Yeah. 00:15:51.11\00:15:53.21 Yeah, easy for him to say. My Aunt Milder had 12. 00:15:53.25\00:15:57.19 My grandmother had, I think she birthed 14. 00:15:57.22\00:15:59.75 Yes. So that's quite a few. 00:15:59.79\00:16:01.72 Wow. We weren't even Amish. 00:16:01.76\00:16:03.26 Yeah. 00:16:03.29\00:16:04.96 That's a lot of them. 00:16:04.99\00:16:06.33 Yeah. Well, go ahead. 00:16:06.36\00:16:07.70 I was gonna ask you, Naomi, 00:16:07.73\00:16:09.06 what was it like growing up as an Amish female? 00:16:09.10\00:16:12.77 Are the-- what role do women play in Amish culture? 00:16:12.80\00:16:17.97 They help in the house with house work 00:16:18.01\00:16:22.14 and they also help some on the farm 00:16:22.18\00:16:24.78 depends on if they are enough boys there. 00:16:24.81\00:16:27.58 If there are plenty of boys then women don't help as much. 00:16:27.62\00:16:31.85 But they do help other people quite a lot. 00:16:31.89\00:16:37.09 If-- like if my neighbor had a baby, 00:16:37.13\00:16:40.10 they would come to my mom and ask her 00:16:40.13\00:16:42.63 for one of her girls to help as a hired girl 00:16:42.66\00:16:46.10 till the baby is about, 00:16:46.13\00:16:47.90 well, that depends from three to six weeks or so. 00:16:47.94\00:16:52.77 So we did that a lot. 00:16:52.81\00:16:54.61 I never did as much 00:16:54.64\00:16:55.98 because I was one of the youngest. 00:16:56.01\00:16:58.41 And I guess the oldest ones would say I was spoiled. 00:16:58.45\00:17:02.05 I could stay home. 00:17:02.08\00:17:04.05 But yeah, that's just kind of-- 00:17:04.09\00:17:05.65 they help out and they teach school a lot. 00:17:05.69\00:17:08.92 So the young girls help with the raising the children? 00:17:08.96\00:17:13.03 They even help the neighbors in raising the children. 00:17:13.06\00:17:14.93 They help out, yeah. 00:17:14.96\00:17:16.77 Up until they are 21 years old. Yeah. 00:17:16.80\00:17:20.17 Because in the English world, when they turn 18, 00:17:20.20\00:17:22.67 they're kind of on their own. 00:17:22.70\00:17:24.04 In our circle it was 21. 00:17:24.07\00:17:25.77 So we could, like if we had a baby, 00:17:25.81\00:17:27.64 we could go to an Amish family that had girls 00:17:27.68\00:17:30.15 and say can we hire one of your girls 00:17:30.18\00:17:31.71 and we can hire a girl for $18 or $20 a week. 00:17:31.75\00:17:35.62 And so it's just... Oh, okay. 00:17:35.65\00:17:37.42 Yeah. Wow. 00:17:37.45\00:17:38.79 So rules are very... 00:17:38.82\00:17:41.69 Defined. Defined. 00:17:41.72\00:17:43.06 That's the word I was looking for, thank you. 00:17:43.09\00:17:44.56 Rules are very defined within the Amish community. 00:17:44.59\00:17:48.56 So I would imagine now, this is a really, 00:17:48.60\00:17:52.53 probably a provocative question, 00:17:52.57\00:17:53.97 but divorce is probably very low. 00:17:54.00\00:17:56.64 No, it's unheard of. 00:17:56.67\00:17:58.01 No, it just really does not happen. 00:17:58.04\00:18:00.21 Yeah, it's totally not allowed in the Amish. 00:18:00.24\00:18:01.88 Those are very strong family structure 00:18:01.91\00:18:05.38 within the community, isn't it? 00:18:05.41\00:18:06.75 It doesn't mean that all the-- all the marriages are strong. 00:18:06.78\00:18:09.32 They are not sometimes. But you got to endure it. 00:18:09.35\00:18:11.45 You promised, you are enduring it. 00:18:11.49\00:18:12.85 Yeah, the most. 00:18:12.89\00:18:14.22 And in some cases what happens, 00:18:14.26\00:18:15.82 one of the spouses would just leave and not be Amish. 00:18:15.86\00:18:18.29 And then of course, the other one can't, 00:18:18.33\00:18:19.86 you can't do anything about that 00:18:19.89\00:18:21.23 but she would never get remarried. 00:18:21.26\00:18:23.77 They never go to a divorce case. 00:18:23.80\00:18:26.27 They would not sign a divorce or anything period, 00:18:26.30\00:18:29.40 under any circumstances. 00:18:29.44\00:18:31.04 Wow. 00:18:31.07\00:18:32.41 Wow, that's amazing. It is. 00:18:32.44\00:18:33.78 So in the women, would you say, the women have equal rights, 00:18:33.81\00:18:39.68 like, are they-- do church services, 00:18:39.71\00:18:42.42 there're all men, do the men do all the church services? 00:18:42.45\00:18:45.19 Do the men make the decisions 00:18:45.22\00:18:47.16 as far as the community is concerned 00:18:47.19\00:18:49.42 as to if we are liberal, if we are conservative 00:18:49.46\00:18:52.19 or do women have input in those, you know? 00:18:52.23\00:18:56.53 I would say the men have the lead on that. 00:18:56.56\00:18:59.40 By far. 00:18:59.43\00:19:01.10 Yeah, by far. Okay. 00:19:01.14\00:19:03.44 You know, you never hear an Amish woman preaching. 00:19:03.47\00:19:06.84 'Cause they think that is pretty far out.. 00:19:06.88\00:19:10.15 Yeah, they'll be preaching about ourselves. 00:19:10.18\00:19:14.85 Well, they do preach sometimes but not in church. 00:19:14.88\00:19:17.62 Things don't go well. 00:19:17.65\00:19:18.99 Yeah, things don't go well if they can preach, huh. 00:19:19.02\00:19:21.96 So the policies and things are made by men. 00:19:21.99\00:19:25.63 Are women, and the men, is education stressed 00:19:25.66\00:19:29.36 within the Amish community? 00:19:29.40\00:19:31.90 That depends a whole lot on the community. 00:19:31.93\00:19:33.70 Some communities are very much about education. 00:19:33.74\00:19:36.40 But usually more conservative Amish cultures, 00:19:36.44\00:19:38.91 or Amish denominations, if you want to call that, 00:19:38.94\00:19:42.28 education is not as much stressed, not at all. 00:19:42.31\00:19:45.21 But, you know, the Amish, where we came up, 00:19:45.25\00:19:47.15 it's not like the, it's not like the guys, 00:19:47.18\00:19:49.08 well, I guess, I should let her say that. 00:19:49.12\00:19:51.12 But it's not like some people get the impression, 00:19:51.15\00:19:53.12 well, the ladies, they just have to sit back 00:19:53.15\00:19:55.66 and shut up and the guys, the men do everything. 00:19:55.69\00:19:58.39 But it's not really the case. Is that the case? 00:19:58.43\00:20:00.03 No, no, we get our chance too. 00:20:00.06\00:20:02.46 Now they, the Amish totally believe that, 00:20:02.50\00:20:04.60 you know, a woman should, you know, 00:20:04.63\00:20:06.43 the man is the head of the house, 00:20:06.47\00:20:07.97 he has final decision 00:20:08.00\00:20:09.34 and he doesn't always understand that, 00:20:09.37\00:20:11.71 you know, there's always guys 00:20:11.74\00:20:13.38 that will take advantage of that position. 00:20:13.41\00:20:15.88 But they do believe, they do teach that, 00:20:15.91\00:20:17.61 you know, the lady has sometimes, 00:20:17.65\00:20:19.61 many times she has a good opinion 00:20:19.65\00:20:21.58 and then that it should be-- they should be listened to. 00:20:21.62\00:20:24.62 Okay, all right. 00:20:24.65\00:20:26.39 That's great. What do you think? 00:20:26.42\00:20:27.76 Did that help you? 00:20:27.79\00:20:29.12 It did. To find that a little bit. 00:20:29.16\00:20:30.49 It did. Okay. 00:20:30.53\00:20:31.86 You can really become Amish now. 00:20:31.89\00:20:33.23 No. 00:20:33.26\00:20:34.60 Just the dress, we get her, 00:20:34.63\00:20:35.96 there is no way she's gonna dress that way, right. 00:20:36.00\00:20:39.23 I couldn't see her dressing like that way 00:20:39.27\00:20:41.44 and probably a lot of our folk around here. 00:20:41.47\00:20:43.91 But it's all in what you get used to. 00:20:43.94\00:20:45.91 Exactly, exactly. 00:20:45.94\00:20:47.28 And so, you know, what somebody looks as very good 00:20:47.31\00:20:51.35 and very nice. 00:20:51.38\00:20:53.15 We used say our son to go meet in cloths, 00:20:53.18\00:20:55.65 it all is in the eyes of the beholder. 00:20:55.68\00:20:57.39 That's right. Right. 00:20:57.42\00:20:58.75 Now it's Sabbath, go meet in cloths 00:20:58.79\00:21:00.22 but it's all in the eyes of the beholder. 00:21:00.26\00:21:02.52 That's right. 00:21:02.56\00:21:03.89 Well, we want to a little bit, 00:21:03.93\00:21:05.26 because since I had a lot of connections 00:21:05.29\00:21:07.20 with the Amish over the years 00:21:07.23\00:21:08.56 as far as reaching them with the gospel, 00:21:08.60\00:21:11.23 they are not usually open to that, 00:21:11.27\00:21:13.97 like I know some who've told me, 00:21:14.00\00:21:15.70 well, I'm not allowed to read, you know, anything, I think. 00:21:15.74\00:21:19.94 But the Bible and the literature 00:21:19.97\00:21:21.54 that that are put out by their church. 00:21:21.58\00:21:24.05 So we can't watch anything, of course, on television. 00:21:24.08\00:21:28.48 We don't have televisions or radios. 00:21:28.52\00:21:30.02 And I said, well, what about YouTube 00:21:30.05\00:21:31.75 'cause I noticed sometimes friends would come over 00:21:31.79\00:21:34.32 and they'd watch YouTube stuff. 00:21:34.36\00:21:36.16 But they said, well, we can't own it, we don't do it. 00:21:36.19\00:21:38.73 But I talked to some of them, of course, about the Lord, 00:21:38.76\00:21:41.16 I was surprised to find out that I figured 00:21:41.20\00:21:44.17 that the religion part played a lot bigger role 00:21:44.20\00:21:48.70 as far as the Bible goes. 00:21:48.74\00:21:51.01 But I've found out some of the folks that I know, 00:21:51.04\00:21:53.27 know hardly any scriptures in the Bible, 00:21:53.31\00:21:55.24 when I quoted John 3:16 00:21:55.28\00:21:57.91 to a very wonderful Amish friend of mine 00:21:57.95\00:22:00.48 and he just looked at me. 00:22:00.52\00:22:01.85 I said, of course, you know John 3:16 00:22:01.88\00:22:03.69 and he's like well, we kind of leave that up 00:22:03.72\00:22:05.05 to the elders and we go to church. 00:22:05.09\00:22:07.36 Now something is very interesting. 00:22:07.39\00:22:09.09 I don't know if you are aware of this, 00:22:09.12\00:22:10.83 most Amish have what, you and I might call an accent 00:22:10.86\00:22:14.96 though they are born and raised here in America. 00:22:15.00\00:22:17.60 And he probably can tell us why. 00:22:17.63\00:22:20.57 Because they don't just speak English. 00:22:20.60\00:22:22.44 That's right. 00:22:22.47\00:22:23.81 Yes, I mean, our primary language is, 00:22:23.84\00:22:25.87 our main language is Pennsylvanian Dutch. 00:22:25.91\00:22:28.64 Yeah. 00:22:28.68\00:22:30.01 And then, of course, we go to school 00:22:30.05\00:22:31.71 to learn the English language 00:22:31.75\00:22:33.48 and also the German language 'cause our Bibles 00:22:33.52\00:22:35.55 are the Martin Luther German Bibles. 00:22:35.58\00:22:38.55 And the Amish would strictly read the German Bibles. 00:22:38.59\00:22:40.92 Now I say strictly, 00:22:40.96\00:22:42.72 and there is the modern liberals, 00:22:42.76\00:22:44.09 they would allow you to read there 00:22:44.13\00:22:45.83 like the English versions also, 00:22:45.86\00:22:47.23 especially, the King James Version. 00:22:47.26\00:22:49.83 And then so yeah, 00:22:49.86\00:22:51.37 if you talk to an Amish person in English, 00:22:51.40\00:22:54.74 you would notice that his accent is different 00:22:54.77\00:22:56.71 and that is because 00:22:56.74\00:22:58.07 it's not his primary language. 00:22:58.11\00:22:59.44 I mean, it's kind of a bend over from-- 00:22:59.47\00:23:01.84 if you want to see it that way from the Pennsylvanian Dutch. 00:23:01.88\00:23:06.08 So they are raised speaking Dutch in the house, right? 00:23:06.11\00:23:09.05 That's right. And in church. 00:23:09.08\00:23:10.82 That's right. Preaching in Dutch. 00:23:10.85\00:23:12.62 It's German. 00:23:12.65\00:23:13.99 German, I'm sorry, 00:23:14.02\00:23:15.36 and then the children learn the language... 00:23:15.39\00:23:18.96 Dutch. Basically Dutch. 00:23:18.99\00:23:21.03 Yeah, and English comes second? 00:23:21.06\00:23:23.60 Yes, probably second and then that 00:23:23.63\00:23:26.07 and German kind of comes together 00:23:26.10\00:23:27.44 'cause they go, they, yeah, English would be first 00:23:27.47\00:23:30.17 because it's in the later grades 00:23:30.21\00:23:32.17 that they learn the German language for the-- 00:23:32.21\00:23:33.91 because of the Bible. 00:23:33.94\00:23:35.28 So that happens and I noticed 00:23:35.31\00:23:37.21 that like on some of these friends, 00:23:37.25\00:23:38.81 I told one of them, they had several babies 00:23:38.85\00:23:41.42 since they get older so there's little one 00:23:41.45\00:23:43.08 and I said, I said that a cute little girl 00:23:43.12\00:23:45.32 and they said, that's a boy. 00:23:45.35\00:23:47.06 And I said, but he's wearing a dress. 00:23:47.09\00:23:48.42 I said, the boy is wearing a dress. 00:23:48.46\00:23:49.89 And they said, yes, 00:23:49.92\00:23:51.26 they wear dresses the first year. 00:23:51.29\00:23:53.06 So what's-- Is there a reason behind that? 00:23:53.09\00:23:55.06 Yes, there is. 00:23:55.10\00:23:56.43 You know, we, that's very interesting. 00:23:56.46\00:23:57.80 We were in Battle Creek, Michigan, here a few weeks ago 00:23:57.83\00:24:00.07 and they were showing when taking us 00:24:00.10\00:24:02.10 through the Ellen White house 00:24:02.14\00:24:03.71 and they said, and they pointed that out. 00:24:03.74\00:24:05.87 They said, for some reason back then, they-- 00:24:05.91\00:24:08.58 the little boys wore dresses 00:24:08.61\00:24:09.94 until they were about two years old. 00:24:09.98\00:24:11.31 "But it's a mystery?" "Why?" 00:24:11.35\00:24:12.68 And I said, "Well, we know why because we still do it." 00:24:12.71\00:24:15.28 It's just because it makes it easier 00:24:15.32\00:24:16.69 to change the diapers and everything. 00:24:16.72\00:24:18.55 Oh. 00:24:18.59\00:24:21.29 But if you know it, the boys, they, 00:24:21.32\00:24:25.09 the girls wear head coverings and the boys don't. 00:24:25.13\00:24:29.06 So that's one way you can decide 00:24:29.10\00:24:31.93 if it's a boy or a girl. 00:24:31.97\00:24:33.47 And also, the boys have their hairs cut 00:24:33.50\00:24:35.54 and the girls don't. 00:24:35.57\00:24:36.91 But sometimes if they don't have a lot of hair, 00:24:36.94\00:24:38.37 then it doesn't really show up. 00:24:38.41\00:24:39.74 Yeah. Yeah. 00:24:39.77\00:24:41.11 So let me ask you, 00:24:41.14\00:24:42.48 so when you have these different, 00:24:42.51\00:24:44.05 you've mentioned liberal, more liberal Amish 00:24:44.08\00:24:48.58 and more conservative, 00:24:48.62\00:24:50.32 does everybody co-exist 00:24:50.35\00:24:51.99 or do you have a liberal sect over here in one state 00:24:52.02\00:24:55.72 and a more conservative 00:24:55.76\00:24:58.09 or are you all together in one place? 00:24:58.13\00:25:01.60 The Amish try, for the most part 00:25:01.63\00:25:02.96 they try to have, you know, they have a one, 00:25:03.00\00:25:06.07 they call it settlement. 00:25:06.10\00:25:07.44 One settlement of-- they are more liberal like, 00:25:07.47\00:25:09.77 they might be New Order or Old Order 00:25:09.80\00:25:12.81 and then the Swartzentrubers, 00:25:12.84\00:25:15.11 I mean, if they want to settle in that general area, 00:25:15.14\00:25:17.11 they will stay away of a certain amount of miles 00:25:17.15\00:25:19.71 and they have like a highway that will divide their ware. 00:25:19.75\00:25:23.02 But what happens frequently in the Amish 00:25:23.05\00:25:25.85 is the church will split 00:25:25.89\00:25:27.66 because there's just like any other church, 00:25:27.69\00:25:29.52 there's always conservatives and liberals 00:25:29.56\00:25:31.19 that we see in every church. 00:25:31.23\00:25:33.09 And so sometimes and this happens quite often 00:25:33.13\00:25:36.23 anymore is they split and then you have 00:25:36.26\00:25:40.10 the two different denominations within the settlement. 00:25:40.14\00:25:42.50 And in our situation, 00:25:42.54\00:25:43.87 it's three different denominations. 00:25:43.91\00:25:45.51 And so you end up with more and more, 00:25:45.54\00:25:47.34 you go to a what is known as Amish country in Ohio, 00:25:47.38\00:25:49.94 it might have 12 different denominations 00:25:49.98\00:25:51.85 or many different denominations. 00:25:51.88\00:25:53.35 But we really can't control that. 00:25:53.38\00:25:55.05 And usually there's a lot of tension when that-- 00:25:55.08\00:25:57.52 tremendous amount of tension. 00:25:57.55\00:25:58.89 I went through that twice growing up 00:25:58.92\00:26:00.26 with my dad being a bishop. 00:26:00.29\00:26:01.76 And there's a lot of tension 00:26:01.79\00:26:05.09 but that eventually kind of dies down 00:26:05.13\00:26:06.70 and they continue having schooled. 00:26:06.73\00:26:08.73 They have the schools together and everything. 00:26:08.76\00:26:10.67 But they wouldn't, you know, 00:26:10.70\00:26:12.03 they cannot share church like any-- 00:26:12.07\00:26:14.00 what goes on in a church or church rules and stuff. 00:26:14.04\00:26:15.60 Good. 00:26:15.64\00:26:16.97 What we want to ask you, 00:26:17.01\00:26:18.51 we really want to center in on this, 00:26:18.54\00:26:20.71 you, of course, being born and raised, 00:26:20.74\00:26:23.58 never changing, you know, tradition. 00:26:23.61\00:26:28.08 But some how someone reached you. 00:26:28.12\00:26:30.29 That's right. 00:26:30.32\00:26:31.65 If your mind because a lot of other folk I know, 00:26:31.69\00:26:34.46 they are not open. 00:26:34.49\00:26:35.82 Apparently, your mind was open why something reached you. 00:26:35.86\00:26:39.79 Tell us somebody came into your shop, 00:26:39.83\00:26:42.26 you met somebody in the community 00:26:42.30\00:26:45.43 that was able to become friends with you, 00:26:45.47\00:26:47.60 was able to present you with what they feel 00:26:47.64\00:26:50.11 was Bible truth and you accepted. 00:26:50.14\00:26:53.14 Why? Well, that's a good question. 00:26:53.17\00:26:56.04 I would say that I was not open at one time 00:26:56.08\00:26:59.31 because I totally believed the Amish religion. 00:26:59.35\00:27:01.78 I totally believed everything and I was-- 00:27:01.82\00:27:03.92 I didn't and I believed that if you left it, 00:27:03.95\00:27:06.99 you're gonna be tortured for eternity. 00:27:07.02\00:27:09.12 And you just don't dare even think about leaving. 00:27:09.16\00:27:12.13 But the one thing that I could 00:27:12.16\00:27:14.30 I will have to say about myself 00:27:14.33\00:27:15.66 is I wanted to do what's right. 00:27:15.70\00:27:17.23 I wanted what's right and God knew that. 00:27:17.27\00:27:18.70 Sure. 00:27:18.73\00:27:20.07 And I-- as a result, I heard about the Dark Ages 00:27:20.10\00:27:25.37 and people being martyred for their faith 00:27:25.41\00:27:26.98 and so I went and I bought myself a book. 00:27:27.01\00:27:30.31 It's called the Martyr the "Martyrs Mirror." 00:27:30.35\00:27:32.15 It's like, kind of like the "Foxe's Book of Martyrs." 00:27:32.18\00:27:34.38 And I read it and it just shattered 00:27:34.42\00:27:37.42 the whole foundation out of under me, 00:27:37.45\00:27:39.62 as far as being the Amish religion. 00:27:39.65\00:27:41.62 Really? Why? 00:27:41.66\00:27:43.02 Because the same arguments they had. 00:27:43.06\00:27:45.66 'Cause some of the were the same arguments that we, 00:27:45.69\00:27:47.36 the things that we told people that left our church, 00:27:47.40\00:27:50.63 the Catholic church 00:27:50.67\00:27:52.00 told the people that left their church. 00:27:52.03\00:27:53.50 Like we had a controversy over brown shoes, 00:27:53.54\00:27:56.27 they shouldn't be brown, they got be black. 00:27:56.30\00:27:58.24 I found the same argument in the "Martyrs Mirror." 00:27:58.27\00:28:01.14 And I found all these seem, like we had the big argument, 00:28:01.18\00:28:04.05 you should not use your everyday language at-- 00:28:04.08\00:28:06.45 in church services. 00:28:06.48\00:28:07.92 German is known in the Amish community 00:28:07.95\00:28:10.29 as a sacred language. 00:28:10.32\00:28:12.05 That should be in church services, 00:28:12.09\00:28:14.19 that should be a different language 00:28:14.22\00:28:15.56 because it's sacred. 00:28:15.59\00:28:17.13 And so that was also going on in the Dark Ages 00:28:17.16\00:28:20.70 and those that who had left that we admired, 00:28:20.73\00:28:24.07 had the same argument. 00:28:24.10\00:28:25.43 They said, no you should have your everyday language. 00:28:25.47\00:28:27.27 So that the people can understand the gospel. 00:28:27.30\00:28:30.54 And so it just-- I just-- I couldn't believe it 00:28:30.57\00:28:32.37 and I thought wow, this is, this is bad news. 00:28:32.41\00:28:35.24 Something, something is wrong so my big, I just-- 00:28:35.28\00:28:38.48 I just started talking to my dad, 00:28:38.51\00:28:39.85 which was the senior bishop of this certain denomination. 00:28:39.88\00:28:42.92 And I told him and I said, you know, 00:28:42.95\00:28:44.29 we need to really step up the plate. 00:28:44.32\00:28:45.72 We need to make possible 00:28:45.75\00:28:47.96 for our young folks to understand the gospel. 00:28:47.99\00:28:49.66 I said, we don't even know, our young folks 00:28:49.69\00:28:51.79 don't even know why Jesus died. 00:28:51.83\00:28:53.40 They don't, it's just like a fairy tale. 00:28:53.43\00:28:55.80 And he was obviously very upset about that. 00:28:55.83\00:28:58.67 He thought, well, you're just way out there 00:28:58.70\00:29:00.40 and there is no way we can talk in our own everyday language. 00:29:00.44\00:29:05.47 That's natural minded. 00:29:05.51\00:29:06.94 And the other thing that I saw in the-- in our culture 00:29:06.98\00:29:10.08 we had to confess our if we-- our sins, 00:29:10.11\00:29:13.35 if we want to call it sins, 00:29:13.38\00:29:14.88 keeping the church rules, we had to confess it 00:29:14.92\00:29:17.32 to the preachers and the bishop or the layman, sorry deacon 00:29:17.35\00:29:20.46 and then they will tell the whole church 00:29:20.49\00:29:22.32 and then, yeah, and then the church will decide 00:29:22.36\00:29:24.93 whether you are forgiven or not. 00:29:24.96\00:29:26.29 Oh. Wow. 00:29:26.33\00:29:27.66 Well, guess what, I came across that in the "Martyrs Mirror." 00:29:27.70\00:29:30.37 Yeah, you did. 00:29:30.40\00:29:31.73 People were very, they were very opposed to that 00:29:31.77\00:29:34.24 and all of this just, I was so confused. 00:29:34.27\00:29:36.60 It wasn't funny. 00:29:36.64\00:29:37.97 So I started following a ministry, 00:29:38.01\00:29:40.01 a Baptist ministry out at Tennessee 00:29:40.04\00:29:42.38 and it was a lot more light. 00:29:42.41\00:29:43.75 I was sure I found the truth. 00:29:43.78\00:29:45.48 I thought, well, I just gonna bring this into the Amish 00:29:45.51\00:29:49.48 and just show the Amish more light and will-- 00:29:49.52\00:29:51.79 And my big thing was we need to reform. 00:29:51.82\00:29:56.66 I just, I did not have 00:29:56.69\00:29:58.29 any intensions to leave the Amish church. 00:29:58.33\00:29:59.73 I just want to bring light in and reform it and-- 00:29:59.76\00:30:02.63 But the devil was against me. It was quite obvious. 00:30:02.66\00:30:05.90 But... Naomi, how about you? 00:30:05.93\00:30:07.57 How did you feel about him? 00:30:07.60\00:30:09.20 He's kind of a renegade, I mean, 00:30:09.24\00:30:10.61 you know, we use that term. 00:30:10.64\00:30:12.01 He's out there a little bit, I mean, 00:30:12.04\00:30:14.01 did this-- your family or did you say, 00:30:14.04\00:30:17.38 you know, hey, hey, 00:30:17.41\00:30:19.18 Andy, we got a-- you know, you need to relax. 00:30:19.21\00:30:21.92 Actually, I think I kind of mentioned that to him, 00:30:24.09\00:30:27.32 why don't we just kind of slow down and take it easy. 00:30:27.36\00:30:30.23 I had the impression-- Right, I thought she might-- 00:30:30.26\00:30:32.29 I had to impress for sure, whether she said it or not. 00:30:32.33\00:30:35.66 Well, I wasn't so much of a reader that he was. 00:30:35.70\00:30:38.73 Okay. 00:30:38.77\00:30:40.10 And I didn't have the time to read because of all the kids. 00:30:40.14\00:30:43.00 Okay. 00:30:43.04\00:30:44.37 And-- but he read most of the time 00:30:44.41\00:30:46.31 and kind of told me what he is reading 00:30:46.34\00:30:48.24 and what it is talking about. 00:30:48.28\00:30:50.91 And it made sense to me 00:30:50.95\00:30:53.42 but I tried to ignore it as far as I could. 00:30:53.45\00:30:56.05 I knew this is gonna be a big... 00:30:56.08\00:30:59.49 Big problem in the church. 00:30:59.52\00:31:03.29 Eventually I couldn't do anything except just follow it 00:31:03.32\00:31:07.03 and accept it in whatever Christ has for us. 00:31:07.06\00:31:09.70 Okay, wonderful. 00:31:09.73\00:31:11.20 So you've received the Baptist, 00:31:11.23\00:31:13.13 you started reading some of their literature. 00:31:13.17\00:31:15.24 That's right. 00:31:15.27\00:31:16.60 Then at some point you must have said, okay, I'm open. 00:31:16.64\00:31:18.77 The Lord knew that. So who did He send you away? 00:31:18.81\00:31:21.28 Well, he sent a person that moved in our community. 00:31:21.31\00:31:24.41 He was a Seventh-day Adventist. 00:31:24.45\00:31:25.98 And the one thing that I was very interested 00:31:26.01\00:31:28.25 was the mark of the beast. 00:31:28.28\00:31:29.68 I was desperate. 00:31:29.72\00:31:31.05 I wanted to know what that mark is because 00:31:31.09\00:31:32.42 I was just beside myself, 00:31:32.45\00:31:33.82 what if one of my children turns sick 00:31:33.86\00:31:35.96 and we end up in the hospital 00:31:35.99\00:31:37.39 and they inject this computer chip 00:31:37.43\00:31:40.83 an she'll be tortured for all eternity for it. 00:31:40.86\00:31:43.06 And without our control and I was a seeker. 00:31:43.10\00:31:46.13 And so I bought this commentary from this Baptist person 00:31:46.17\00:31:50.14 on the Book of Revelation 'cause I wanted to know 00:31:50.17\00:31:53.58 and then as I came to the end of-- 00:31:53.61\00:31:55.64 I went straight to Revelation 13. 00:31:55.68\00:31:57.78 And it was a mystery. He didn't know what it was. 00:31:57.81\00:32:00.08 He believed it was some political and literal figure 00:32:00.12\00:32:02.72 and it was-- and I thought wow, 00:32:02.75\00:32:05.12 I guess that we just don't know. 00:32:05.15\00:32:07.06 But then my Adventist friend shared literature with me 00:32:07.09\00:32:10.73 from White Horse Media, which is a little book 00:32:10.76\00:32:12.99 from Steve Wohlberg. 00:32:13.03\00:32:14.36 Yes. 00:32:14.40\00:32:15.73 Which it says, I think it's 00:32:15.76\00:32:17.37 decoding the mark of the beast or something, 666. 00:32:17.40\00:32:19.30 Okay, all right. 00:32:19.33\00:32:20.67 And that little booklet is great. 00:32:20.70\00:32:22.04 Every Amish family in the world needs that booklet 00:32:22.07\00:32:24.77 because the Amish are very, they are very worried 00:32:24.81\00:32:28.04 and concerned about the mark of the beast. 00:32:28.08\00:32:29.64 And the thing was that it's a little booklet, 00:32:29.68\00:32:31.45 it's not a big book. 00:32:31.48\00:32:32.91 You can sit and-- you can read it in one sitting 00:32:32.95\00:32:35.32 and you know it, whether you like it or not, 00:32:35.35\00:32:37.02 you just know it. 00:32:37.05\00:32:38.39 It's right out of the Bible and so I read that and also, 00:32:38.42\00:32:43.86 like a commentary on Daniel and Revelation 00:32:43.89\00:32:45.76 from Amazing Facts. 00:32:45.79\00:32:48.00 And then he gave me the "Spirit of Prophecy" books 00:32:48.03\00:32:50.23 as well, of course. 00:32:50.27\00:32:51.60 And I mean, there was no question in my mind, 00:32:51.63\00:32:54.77 we found the truth. 00:32:54.80\00:32:56.44 But this kind of took on for a while and eventually. 00:32:56.47\00:32:58.81 And who was this? How did you meet this person? 00:32:58.84\00:33:01.18 He moved in, this person moved in a home that an atheist 00:33:01.21\00:33:06.95 used to live that I used to work for growing up. 00:33:06.98\00:33:08.68 Okay. 00:33:08.72\00:33:10.05 And that's where I got hung up with coffee 00:33:10.09\00:33:11.65 and all kinds of bad habits. 00:33:11.69\00:33:14.46 And he moved in and I heard he was vegan 00:33:14.49\00:33:16.32 and I thought well, that is strange to be vegan 00:33:16.36\00:33:18.93 and do any work. 00:33:18.96\00:33:21.90 And you got to have that protein 00:33:21.93\00:33:23.70 and so I met him and I couldn't believe it. 00:33:23.73\00:33:26.47 He looked so healthy. I was just awestruck. 00:33:26.50\00:33:28.04 What's his name? 00:33:28.07\00:33:29.40 Phil Haykin. His name is Phil Haykin. 00:33:29.44\00:33:30.87 Okay, all right. 00:33:30.91\00:33:32.44 And so he shared some literature with us 00:33:32.47\00:33:36.54 and after a while, 00:33:36.58\00:33:39.65 we realized that this is gonna cost way too much. 00:33:39.68\00:33:42.45 We have, I mean, in order to follow this 00:33:42.48\00:33:44.45 and we knew for a fact, I mean, who else believes that 00:33:44.49\00:33:47.69 "all scripture is profitable for doctrine, for reprove, 00:33:47.72\00:33:51.09 for correction and instruction in righteousness." 00:33:51.13\00:33:53.23 That is a big mouthful from Paul. 00:33:53.26\00:33:55.26 From Genesis to Revelation, nobody else believes it. 00:33:55.30\00:33:57.63 We tried every religion, 00:33:57.67\00:33:59.13 I mean, we didn't want to be Sabbath, 00:33:59.17\00:34:01.60 Saturday keepers, that's strange. 00:34:01.64\00:34:03.34 That's awkward. 00:34:03.37\00:34:04.71 We wanted to be Sunday keepers. 00:34:04.74\00:34:06.07 We wanted to be politically correct. 00:34:06.11\00:34:07.94 But we had no choice and who else believes that, 00:34:07.98\00:34:10.15 you know, we should go into all the world, 00:34:10.18\00:34:12.51 everybody, but to teach, everybody to observe, 00:34:12.55\00:34:16.38 everything that Jesus taught us, nobody. 00:34:16.42\00:34:18.72 And it was, I'm not saying that in an unkind way 00:34:18.75\00:34:20.76 but that was it just-- it's just a fact 00:34:20.79\00:34:24.76 and so eventually, 00:34:24.79\00:34:27.46 we just took all our books 00:34:27.50\00:34:28.83 and we burned them at the weekend. 00:34:28.86\00:34:30.20 Oh, really? 00:34:30.23\00:34:31.57 Yeah, because we can't give, you know, 00:34:31.60\00:34:32.93 everything is at stake, our education, 00:34:32.97\00:34:34.70 our every-- our whole world is at stake. 00:34:34.74\00:34:37.24 And-- but we couldn't rest. 00:34:37.27\00:34:39.57 I mean, we were, we were miserable. 00:34:39.61\00:34:42.18 And eventually we just decided. 00:34:42.21\00:34:48.52 Well, one day I was so miserable. 00:34:48.55\00:34:50.32 I couldn't work. 00:34:50.35\00:34:51.69 I was in my workshop and I got this book, 00:34:51.72\00:34:54.36 "Great Controversy" and I started reading 00:34:54.39\00:34:56.36 and it was talking about-- 00:34:56.39\00:34:59.33 and this book by the way, was thrown away in the barn 00:34:59.36\00:35:02.46 and I forgot that it was there and I remembered it that day 00:35:02.50\00:35:04.97 when I needed it and it was all the answers, 00:35:05.00\00:35:06.84 all the questions that I had, the answers were right there. 00:35:06.87\00:35:08.57 It was like God talking to me. 00:35:08.60\00:35:10.17 And I just made up my mind 00:35:10.21\00:35:11.57 and I'm gonna follow the truth, life or death. 00:35:11.61\00:35:13.48 If my wife wants to follow it, she can follow it. 00:35:13.51\00:35:15.41 If not, I will follow it because... 00:35:15.44\00:35:17.71 I think we're hearing somebody come in. 00:35:17.75\00:35:19.75 I think you got one of the babies here. 00:35:19.78\00:35:22.25 He wants to see momma, I think we should bring momma. 00:35:22.28\00:35:25.19 Bring him over here to see momma. 00:35:25.22\00:35:26.55 Oh, that's great. 00:35:26.59\00:35:27.92 Come over here, let's see momma. 00:35:27.96\00:35:29.29 He's supposed to be sleeping but... 00:35:29.32\00:35:30.66 Yeah, that's all right. 00:35:30.69\00:35:32.03 You know, this is family time. 00:35:32.06\00:35:33.40 You want to get there. 00:35:33.43\00:35:34.76 He's gonna go right over to momma. 00:35:34.80\00:35:36.13 Now where is my mommy? It was quite obvious. 00:38:29.20\00:38:30.54 And right after that, some Adventists started coming 00:38:30.57\00:38:33.74 seeing us on Sabbath. 00:38:33.78\00:38:35.34 And they spent time with us 00:38:35.38\00:38:36.71 and we had this one couple came by. 00:38:36.75\00:38:40.32 He was just converted from the Catholic faith 00:38:40.35\00:38:44.12 about three years ago. 00:38:44.15\00:38:45.92 And he was quite well off financially and he said, 00:38:45.95\00:38:48.89 come on, we need to do something here. 00:38:48.92\00:38:51.46 And so we kind of looked around and to kind of in a nutshell 00:38:51.49\00:38:56.00 we bought this fireworks property that was, 00:38:56.03\00:38:59.27 that I used to work for when I was growing up. 00:38:59.30\00:39:01.00 Okay. 00:39:01.04\00:39:02.37 I never had an idea that we would have church services 00:39:02.40\00:39:04.54 there but anyways we bought this fireworks property 00:39:04.57\00:39:07.91 and there was a-- there was a newer 00:39:07.94\00:39:11.48 like an office building on it that was kind of 00:39:11.51\00:39:13.28 like a ranch type home and we took a wall out 00:39:13.31\00:39:17.49 and we build a small sanctuary where we could 00:39:17.52\00:39:19.35 get together in Sabbaths, at least you know, we tried to, 00:39:19.39\00:39:21.66 tried to have a new normal and reach our people 00:39:21.69\00:39:26.36 and one of the things that was such a great relief for us, 00:39:26.39\00:39:28.83 is once we just, one of the things that made it so hard 00:39:28.86\00:39:32.13 for us to step out and become Seventh-day Adventist 00:39:32.17\00:39:33.90 because we thought, well, we're not gonna have 00:39:33.94\00:39:35.57 horse and buggy anymore. 00:39:35.60\00:39:36.94 Everything is gonna be different. 00:39:36.97\00:39:38.41 And so finally we realized, Naomi told me one day, 00:39:38.44\00:39:40.68 she said, you know, we can be Amish 00:39:40.71\00:39:42.81 and be Seventh-day Adventist. 00:39:42.84\00:39:44.18 I just thought that's right. We could do that. 00:39:44.21\00:39:46.58 And then it became a no-brainer. 00:39:46.61\00:39:48.92 Of course, we would do that. 00:39:48.95\00:39:50.29 You know in order to reach the Amish, 00:39:50.32\00:39:51.65 in order to honor our parents, why would we dishonor 00:39:51.69\00:39:55.19 our parents to keep the Sabbath. 00:39:55.22\00:39:56.56 That makes no sense. 00:39:56.59\00:39:57.93 We were, part of that was because we were living 00:39:57.96\00:40:00.20 with my mom at the time. 00:40:00.23\00:40:01.70 That's right. 00:40:01.73\00:40:03.13 And I could not see to her, 00:40:03.16\00:40:07.64 from my part I couldn't use her like 00:40:07.67\00:40:09.57 that because I knew she's gonna think it's horrible. 00:40:09.60\00:40:13.61 Even more horrible if we go out and take it 00:40:13.64\00:40:16.58 and change cloths and get car and... 00:40:16.61\00:40:19.01 Okay, all right. 00:40:19.05\00:40:21.18 So anyways, then we had this other Amish man 00:40:21.22\00:40:25.62 who stopped at my house and he said, you know, 00:40:25.65\00:40:27.36 I was in church, this Amish-- in the Amish church 00:40:27.39\00:40:29.92 here lately and he said, 00:40:29.96\00:40:31.59 they were saying some stuff about you, Andy. 00:40:31.63\00:40:34.20 And he said, they were saying, you know, 00:40:34.23\00:40:37.63 Andy Weaver says that two churches are gonna preach 00:40:37.67\00:40:41.10 the gospel into all the world. 00:40:41.14\00:40:42.64 Whereas the Amish don't believe in evangelism 00:40:42.67\00:40:44.97 and I think there were some other things 00:40:45.01\00:40:47.18 and it was gossip. 00:40:47.21\00:40:48.81 But he was standing there and he's like well, I get that. 00:40:48.84\00:40:51.78 That makes sense. 00:40:51.81\00:40:53.15 So they lost his family over gossip. 00:40:53.18\00:40:56.02 He came and saw me and he thought well, 00:40:56.05\00:40:59.12 the Sabbath makes sense to me and I'm gonna embrace it so, 00:40:59.15\00:41:02.02 and his wife was not ready. 00:41:02.06\00:41:03.69 And so the Amish took his wife and his children away 00:41:03.73\00:41:07.70 and they ran him out of the house. 00:41:07.73\00:41:09.06 Oh, my. 00:41:09.10\00:41:10.43 And actually they took him to a counseling center 00:41:10.47\00:41:11.80 and trying to put him on drugs 'cause they thought 00:41:11.83\00:41:13.17 he was crazy in his head and stuff. 00:41:13.20\00:41:15.00 But drugs are something new. They should not use new stuff. 00:41:15.04\00:41:19.24 You got to remind them they are Amish. 00:41:19.27\00:41:20.61 Yeah, you got to do what you got to do. 00:41:20.64\00:41:22.11 You keep people from going crazy. 00:41:22.14\00:41:25.71 So in a nutshell... 00:41:25.75\00:41:27.08 They thought he was crazy. 00:41:27.12\00:41:28.45 Yes. Okay. 00:41:28.48\00:41:29.82 She's converted today, and they are taking 00:41:29.85\00:41:31.55 Bible studies and they are planning to be baptized. 00:41:31.59\00:41:34.59 Oh, that's wonderful. 00:41:34.62\00:41:35.96 Absolutely. That's incredible. 00:41:35.99\00:41:37.56 So you have this place, facility, 00:41:37.59\00:41:40.30 and you are meeting on Sabbath. 00:41:40.33\00:41:41.66 That's right. Right? 00:41:41.70\00:41:43.03 Yeah. 00:41:43.06\00:41:44.40 And we have a school there. Okay, here we go. 00:41:44.43\00:41:45.77 All right. 00:41:45.80\00:41:47.14 Are these some of the folk who come there? 00:41:47.17\00:41:48.64 Yes, that's my family in the front row and then yeah, 00:41:48.67\00:41:52.97 we can hold about 60 people 00:41:53.01\00:41:54.41 but this last Sabbath, it was crowded. 00:41:54.44\00:41:57.25 Because most of them are not were not Amish, 00:41:57.28\00:41:59.08 but you know the Amish, like you shared earlier, 00:41:59.11\00:42:02.35 it's very difficult to reach them. 00:42:02.38\00:42:03.85 But we know they are gonna be reached 00:42:03.89\00:42:05.49 because they are part of the tribe, 00:42:05.52\00:42:07.22 I mean, they will be reached. 00:42:07.26\00:42:08.99 And one of the great ways to reach them is literature, 00:42:09.02\00:42:12.56 through like mail, that way they are comfortable. 00:42:12.59\00:42:16.90 So that's what we are working for. 00:42:16.93\00:42:18.27 We hope to work with different Adventist ministries, 00:42:18.30\00:42:21.17 you know, to get mail and it has also, 00:42:21.20\00:42:23.71 there's already a ministry known 00:42:23.74\00:42:26.11 as Plain People's Ministry out at North Carolina 00:42:26.14\00:42:28.98 that you can send all your, 00:42:29.01\00:42:30.35 if you have Amish friends or neighbors or anybody, 00:42:30.38\00:42:33.18 you can send your addresses and he will mail them 00:42:33.21\00:42:35.48 all the Adventist literature, all the doctrines. 00:42:35.52\00:42:37.95 He's been doing for 30 years. Wonderful. 00:42:37.99\00:42:40.36 The Amish are those-- there's a number of Amish 00:42:40.39\00:42:41.92 that are waking up. 00:42:41.96\00:42:43.29 They are really starting to consider the Sabbath 00:42:43.32\00:42:45.03 but the devil fights it. 00:42:45.06\00:42:46.39 I mean, he fights it really hard. 00:42:46.43\00:42:48.00 Yeah. 00:42:48.03\00:42:49.36 But anyways we had about eight children 00:42:49.40\00:42:52.47 and we felt that we need to get a school started 00:42:52.50\00:42:54.94 so we started a school 00:42:54.97\00:42:56.47 and we have a widowed lady that teach in school. 00:42:56.50\00:42:58.67 And she was actually, 00:42:58.71\00:43:00.04 her husband was a was a evangelist for, 00:43:00.08\00:43:05.11 a Bible worker for Amazing Facts for Joe Crews. 00:43:05.15\00:43:07.42 Okay. All right. good. 00:43:07.45\00:43:09.02 And so she moved in and she is our school teacher 00:43:09.05\00:43:12.79 and her daughter attends the school there. 00:43:12.82\00:43:15.82 So we have this, we have everything-- 00:43:15.86\00:43:17.73 She lives in this little building, 00:43:17.76\00:43:19.76 we have church there and we have school there. 00:43:19.79\00:43:22.16 Multipurpose. It's Multipurpose. 00:43:22.20\00:43:23.70 It's a multipurpose. Yes. 00:43:23.73\00:43:25.57 And it's working out, but that's all. 00:43:25.60\00:43:27.34 I mean, yeah, it's very tough, it's very hard. 00:43:27.37\00:43:29.47 It's very crowded. 00:43:29.50\00:43:30.84 Yeah, but there's other buildings there, 00:43:30.87\00:43:33.11 we're working, we're gonna start renovation 00:43:33.14\00:43:35.01 and renovation on another building there 00:43:35.04\00:43:37.61 that was used to make firecrackers, 00:43:37.65\00:43:40.78 that's gonna be our school building. 00:43:40.82\00:43:42.15 And then we're working on getting... 00:43:42.18\00:43:46.02 on fund raising to build a multipurpose building, 00:43:46.05\00:43:49.06 bigger building where we can have, 00:43:49.09\00:43:51.76 where we can worship and have, like, cooking classes, 00:43:51.79\00:43:55.60 and all kind of, because people around there don't know 00:43:55.63\00:43:57.27 anything about Adventists 00:43:57.30\00:43:58.63 and you don't want everybody out to tell 00:43:58.67\00:44:00.37 everybody what they think about Adventists, you want to, 00:44:00.40\00:44:02.90 kind of, keep ahead of the game there. 00:44:02.94\00:44:04.77 Yeah, that's right. 00:44:04.81\00:44:06.14 Are you finding that there are 00:44:06.17\00:44:07.51 a lot of people who are seeing truth, 00:44:07.54\00:44:09.84 that they're really hungering for the truth? 00:44:09.88\00:44:12.25 Yes. 00:44:12.28\00:44:13.62 Within that community? Yes. 00:44:13.65\00:44:14.98 There's a lot of Amish that are hungering for truth, 00:44:15.02\00:44:16.35 especially younger folks, and it's devastating, 00:44:16.38\00:44:18.45 the old folks are devastated, they think the young folks, 00:44:18.49\00:44:21.59 they believe, they truly believe it's the great falling 00:44:21.62\00:44:23.76 away that Paul prophesied about. 00:44:23.79\00:44:25.73 And so it creates a lot of heartache 00:44:25.76\00:44:27.20 and there's nothing funny about. 00:44:27.23\00:44:28.56 I mean, to them it's terrible. 00:44:28.60\00:44:29.93 My parents, I mean, my mother, 00:44:29.96\00:44:31.83 she literally got health problems, 00:44:31.87\00:44:33.20 I believe, over me leaving the church, 00:44:33.23\00:44:35.20 'cause there's nothing, it's very intense, 00:44:35.24\00:44:36.97 it's very, I mean I feel... 00:44:37.01\00:44:38.57 But you're able to sit down and talk to them? 00:44:38.61\00:44:41.08 It was pretty rocky for a while, I just kind of, 00:44:41.11\00:44:43.85 I did once in a great while, but it... 00:44:43.88\00:44:46.58 Just once in a great while because it was pretty intense, 00:44:46.61\00:44:50.69 but... 00:44:50.72\00:44:52.35 You tell her that it doesn't change your love for her. 00:44:52.39\00:44:54.59 Yes. And she knows that by now. 00:44:54.62\00:44:56.49 I mean, things they have gotten, 00:44:56.52\00:44:57.89 the Holy Spirit has gotten, so we pray for them 00:44:57.93\00:45:01.43 all day, every day. 00:45:01.46\00:45:02.80 In the middle of the night when I wake up, 00:45:02.83\00:45:04.50 first thing I do, I pray for my parents. 00:45:04.53\00:45:05.97 Oh, that's great. 00:45:06.00\00:45:07.34 Because I know they're grieved 00:45:07.37\00:45:08.70 and there's nothing funny about that. 00:45:08.74\00:45:10.11 I mean, that's terrible. 00:45:10.14\00:45:11.47 Yeah, that's very serious. It's very serious. 00:45:11.51\00:45:13.24 Because they feel as though your soul is in jeopardy. 00:45:13.27\00:45:16.81 That's right. 00:45:16.85\00:45:18.18 They are sure that we're gonna be tortured for all eternity, 00:45:18.21\00:45:20.02 and how could you bear that. 00:45:20.05\00:45:21.38 Yeah. 00:45:21.42\00:45:22.75 And but from our visit 00:45:22.78\00:45:24.12 with my parents on Thanksgiving, 00:45:24.15\00:45:26.79 I am fairly... 00:45:26.82\00:45:29.06 I'm thinking... 00:45:29.09\00:45:30.43 I'm fairly confident that they're getting 00:45:30.46\00:45:31.96 to the point where they believe, 00:45:31.99\00:45:33.43 may be Andy and Naomi will not be lost. 00:45:33.46\00:45:35.40 One thing they like is that we believe in law. 00:45:35.43\00:45:39.03 They think they believe in the law, 00:45:39.07\00:45:40.40 but to them it's more, 00:45:40.44\00:45:42.67 they believe Amish law, that's right. 00:45:42.70\00:45:45.74 They believe that you should not eat horse 00:45:45.77\00:45:47.51 because their hooves are not split, 00:45:47.54\00:45:49.88 you can't eat horse it's unclean, 00:45:49.91\00:45:51.38 but it's alright to eat pork, and you're weird 00:45:51.41\00:45:53.21 if you don't eat pork, 'cause that's the old covenant. 00:45:53.25\00:45:55.62 And you know, it's a very inconsistent, 00:45:55.65\00:45:57.05 but, you know, if nobody challenges it, 00:45:57.09\00:45:59.75 nobody thinks about it. 00:45:59.79\00:46:01.22 Questions it. That's right. 00:46:01.26\00:46:02.59 Now everybody thinking and it's creating 00:46:02.62\00:46:04.59 a lot of chaos, so we just try to, you know, 00:46:04.63\00:46:07.16 do everything we can to keep everything 00:46:07.20\00:46:08.53 quiet and normal and... 00:46:08.56\00:46:10.93 'Cause we love these people. 00:46:10.97\00:46:12.30 All I want is them-- 00:46:12.33\00:46:13.67 I want them in the kingdom, I'm not looking for them 00:46:13.70\00:46:15.47 to all swarm to this church and worship, 00:46:15.50\00:46:17.77 I just want them in the kingdom when we get there. 00:46:17.81\00:46:19.87 Absolutely. 00:46:19.91\00:46:21.24 See, from my perspective from that this is really 00:46:21.28\00:46:24.31 remarkable because people don't even know to be open 00:46:24.35\00:46:28.52 because they're afraid to be open, 00:46:28.55\00:46:30.39 because I don't want to be that person to be 00:46:30.42\00:46:33.79 because you're so within this closed community 00:46:33.82\00:46:37.53 that if you do anything you're pretty well outcasts, 00:46:37.56\00:46:40.70 so you can't even hardly have thoughts of doing anything. 00:46:40.73\00:46:44.97 And your mind's not there, but when you do business 00:46:45.00\00:46:47.77 with the English or you do business 00:46:47.80\00:46:50.61 and somebody comes and you start saying, 00:46:50.64\00:46:52.77 well, these people aren't so bad, you know, 00:46:52.81\00:46:54.78 and then they start teaching, you know, the Word of God, 00:46:54.81\00:46:58.68 but how much more effective, you know, is Andy and Naomi 00:46:58.71\00:47:03.08 because they still have the Amish lifestyle 00:47:03.12\00:47:06.99 and so it's not just the English that's out here, 00:47:07.02\00:47:10.03 but hey, they're born and raised Amish, 00:47:10.06\00:47:12.79 wonder what's after the gossip's over 00:47:12.83\00:47:14.90 and shock is over? 00:47:14.93\00:47:16.63 I think it comes down to, 00:47:16.67\00:47:18.43 well, they're still wonderful people, 00:47:18.47\00:47:19.80 we see them, 00:47:19.83\00:47:21.17 they're raising in the family, they love people, 00:47:21.20\00:47:23.51 they haven't really changed that much, 00:47:23.54\00:47:25.94 so what is it that... 00:47:25.97\00:47:27.71 Why did they do what they have done? 00:47:27.74\00:47:29.24 That's right. 00:47:29.28\00:47:30.61 And I think it will get their minds. 00:47:30.65\00:47:32.28 Now they have a church and who knows, 00:47:32.31\00:47:33.78 someone may venture their start 00:47:33.82\00:47:35.65 and you have one family already. 00:47:35.68\00:47:37.62 We've been a lot-- we've been so much trouble 00:47:37.65\00:47:39.42 without the Holy Spirit, you know, 00:47:39.45\00:47:40.79 it's all up to the Holy Spirit. 00:47:40.82\00:47:42.32 But God wants us to-- 00:47:42.36\00:47:43.83 God just wants us to be instruments, you know, 00:47:43.86\00:47:46.06 to get people to think, you know, 00:47:46.09\00:47:47.83 get people to question and, you know to demonstrate, 00:47:47.86\00:47:50.53 I mean, that's just part of God's love is to use 00:47:50.57\00:47:53.27 His sinful people to work for Him. 00:47:53.30\00:47:56.40 And who better than from within. 00:47:56.44\00:47:59.07 That's right. 00:47:59.11\00:48:00.44 Like Danny was saying, it's a much better witness 00:48:00.48\00:48:03.65 from within than somebody from outside saying, 00:48:03.68\00:48:06.65 whatever you guys have that culture already 00:48:06.68\00:48:10.65 and you're maintaining that lifestyle and yet, 00:48:10.69\00:48:14.96 you have reached out to the Word of God and you're really, 00:48:14.99\00:48:18.13 You've really accepted the word of God, not tradition. 00:48:18.16\00:48:21.43 That's right, yup. 00:48:21.46\00:48:22.80 And they understand that I actually had an Amish bishop 00:48:22.83\00:48:25.23 come and tell me, he said, you know, Andy? 00:48:25.27\00:48:28.50 I want you to move off of this property, 00:48:28.54\00:48:31.01 'cause I'm in the center of the community 00:48:31.04\00:48:33.07 of over 300 families. 00:48:33.11\00:48:34.74 I want you to move off of this property, 00:48:34.78\00:48:37.01 I want you to cut your hair, 00:48:37.05\00:48:38.85 I want you to change your clothes 00:48:38.88\00:48:40.35 and I want you to move to the West Coast 00:48:40.38\00:48:42.55 and I want you to take that smile off that face. 00:48:42.58\00:48:45.65 Do not act like you're happy, 'cause you're condemned. 00:48:45.69\00:48:49.36 And I felt, wow, it's working. 00:48:49.39\00:48:54.00 Wow. 00:48:54.03\00:48:55.36 No, I don't want to be a threat to the Amish community, 00:48:55.40\00:48:56.77 I love the Amish. I don't want to be a-- 00:48:56.80\00:48:58.57 I want to be a blessing to them and I don't know why God-- 00:48:58.60\00:49:02.34 How God is going to reach these people, 00:49:02.37\00:49:03.71 but I know for a fact that He will reach these people. 00:49:03.74\00:49:06.64 And I believe He will be through mailing a lot. 00:49:06.68\00:49:10.11 The ball will start rolling. 00:49:10.15\00:49:11.48 It's gonna be... It's gonna be through you all, of course. 00:49:11.51\00:49:13.52 Now what can we do, our viewers are watching, 00:49:13.55\00:49:16.02 you're saying financially you're doing fund raising, 00:49:16.05\00:49:18.75 what particular is this for literature? 00:51:06.56\00:51:09.76 Or... is that what you're saying? 00:51:09.80\00:51:11.70 I think for the most part, what works best 00:51:11.73\00:51:14.97 is if we can work through somebody, 00:51:15.00\00:51:16.91 through ministries or whether we will be that, 00:51:16.94\00:51:18.87 you know, the center of it? 00:51:18.91\00:51:20.24 We hope what we can do is, 00:51:20.28\00:51:21.61 we want to reach all the Amish plain communities 00:51:21.64\00:51:23.48 and of course, we want to reach souls, 00:51:23.51\00:51:25.41 and we are not just out for Amish anybody-- 00:51:25.45\00:51:27.22 but we're gonna be geared toward to plain people. 00:51:27.25\00:51:29.82 And so want to kind of be there like the headquarters 00:51:29.85\00:51:33.49 of that, you know, to help other people in other areas. 00:51:33.52\00:51:35.99 And but... 00:51:36.02\00:51:37.59 But ministries like 00:51:37.63\00:51:38.96 Steve Wohlberg's and Amazing Facts... 00:51:38.99\00:51:40.33 Amazing Facts, how we can work with them to, you know? 00:51:40.36\00:51:43.03 'Cause we have over, we have like 15,000 or 18,000 00:51:43.06\00:51:46.67 Amish addresses through plain people's ministry. 00:51:46.70\00:51:49.50 So what one person has, and I forget the name 00:51:49.54\00:51:52.57 of this ministry, but they were just working on that now, 00:51:52.61\00:51:55.18 they're adopting all of those addresses and they're planning 00:51:55.21\00:51:59.68 to send "Steps to Christ" to every one of those homes. 00:51:59.71\00:52:01.88 Wonderful. 00:52:01.92\00:52:03.25 So that is an example what we want do and it's just-- 00:52:03.28\00:52:06.59 It remains a mystery of how will this all play out. 00:52:06.62\00:52:10.26 Well, what is gonna turn out is gonna play out good. 00:52:10.29\00:52:13.19 Gonna be for the good. 00:52:13.23\00:52:14.56 All things work together for good, right?
