I want to spend my life 00:00:01.56\00:00:07.44 Mending broken people 00:00:07.47\00:00:12.34 I want to spend my life 00:00:12.37\00:00:18.51 Removing pain 00:00:18.55\00:00:23.49 Lord, let my words 00:00:23.52\00:00:29.79 Heal a heart that hurts 00:00:29.82\00:00:34.30 I want to spend my life 00:00:34.33\00:00:40.20 Mending broken people 00:00:40.24\00:00:45.51 I want to spend my life 00:00:45.54\00:00:51.08 Mending broken people 00:00:51.11\00:00:55.15 Hello and welcome to 3ABN Today, 00:01:07.06\00:01:08.90 My name is C.A. Murray 00:01:08.93\00:01:10.27 and thank you for joining us once again 00:01:10.30\00:01:12.03 for a very special 3ABN Today broadcast. 00:01:12.07\00:01:16.17 One of the things that we often say 00:01:16.20\00:01:17.67 that we really like about going to large gatherings 00:01:17.71\00:01:20.58 of the Seventh-day Adventist church 00:01:20.61\00:01:22.21 like a General Conference or an ASI or a GYC, 00:01:22.24\00:01:25.91 meetings of that nature. 00:01:25.95\00:01:28.18 You run into and you meet a large number of people 00:01:28.22\00:01:31.42 who are doing so many different kinds of ministries 00:01:31.45\00:01:34.46 for the cause of Christ. 00:01:34.49\00:01:35.82 Some are supported directly by the church 00:01:35.86\00:01:37.79 through different organizations. 00:01:37.83\00:01:39.43 Others are independent ministries 00:01:39.46\00:01:41.93 that are supporting ministries 00:01:41.96\00:01:43.83 of the Seventh-day Adventist church 00:01:43.87\00:01:45.20 like Three Angels' Broadcasting Network, 00:01:45.23\00:01:46.87 but there are hundreds of ministries, 00:01:46.90\00:01:49.54 and some are very specific niche ministries 00:01:49.57\00:01:53.27 that if these ministers were not operating, 00:01:53.31\00:01:55.44 I doubt the gospel will be getting to that population 00:01:55.48\00:01:58.61 in just that particular way, 00:01:58.65\00:01:59.98 so we're gonna meet some of those today. 00:02:00.02\00:02:01.98 We get to meet some people 00:02:02.02\00:02:03.35 who are doing some great things for the Lord. 00:02:03.39\00:02:05.05 And first up, we want to go and... 00:02:05.09\00:02:08.12 To the country of Bangladesh as it were, 00:02:08.16\00:02:11.13 as Shelley Quinn had a chance to meet 00:02:11.16\00:02:12.99 with Dr. M. Ju Lee 00:02:13.03\00:02:17.27 and Dr. Chongho Yang. 00:02:17.30\00:02:21.17 Dr. Lee is President of the Adventist Union Mission, 00:02:21.20\00:02:24.21 and Dr. Chongho Yang is the college president there 00:02:24.24\00:02:28.28 and the seminary president there 00:02:28.31\00:02:30.21 and they've a very, very exciting story for us just now. 00:02:30.25\00:02:33.08 Again, here we are on the floor at the exhibit hall 00:02:35.28\00:02:38.15 and with us in the booth now is... 00:02:38.19\00:02:41.89 We have to gentlemen actually, we have Chung Ho Young, 00:02:41.92\00:02:44.89 Dr. Chung ho young 00:02:44.93\00:02:46.63 who is the President of the Bangladesh 00:02:46.66\00:02:50.70 Adventist Seminary and College. 00:02:50.73\00:02:52.93 And then we also have M.J. Lee, 00:02:52.97\00:02:56.27 who is the President of the Bangladesh Union Mission 00:02:56.30\00:03:00.04 of Seventh-day Adventist Church. 00:03:00.08\00:03:02.24 Gentlemen, thank you so much for being here today. 00:03:02.28\00:03:05.38 Thank you. Thank you so much. 00:03:05.41\00:03:06.92 And Dr. Lee, I would like to start with you. 00:03:06.95\00:03:12.49 Please, for our viewers, would you... 00:03:12.52\00:03:14.59 some people are not that familiar with Bangladesh 00:03:14.62\00:03:18.29 and with the area, 00:03:18.33\00:03:20.43 tell us a little of the socio-economic part? 00:03:20.46\00:03:25.03 Okay. 00:03:25.07\00:03:26.63 Bangladesh is located at 10/40 window, 00:03:26.67\00:03:31.04 exactly in the center of the land 00:03:31.07\00:03:34.54 having 160 million people. 00:03:34.58\00:03:39.51 A hundred and sixty million? Wow. 00:03:39.55\00:03:41.25 Yeah, very big population, 90 percent is Muslim, 00:03:41.28\00:03:47.49 9 percent is Hinduism, 00:03:47.52\00:03:50.13 only one percent is other religion, 00:03:50.16\00:03:53.33 but Christianity is only 0.3, very small group. 00:03:53.36\00:03:58.93 Also, economic situation, as we know, 00:03:58.97\00:04:01.50 Bangladesh is one of the very poorest countries, 00:04:01.54\00:04:05.54 there are many, many challenges. 00:04:05.57\00:04:08.14 Yeah. Yes. 00:04:08.18\00:04:09.88 And how long have you been in Bangladesh? 00:04:09.91\00:04:12.88 Oh, yeah. 00:04:12.91\00:04:14.25 By the grace of God, 00:04:14.28\00:04:15.62 now I have been serving our church about 10 years. 00:04:15.65\00:04:20.92 All right. 00:04:20.96\00:04:22.29 And you actually began with Dr... 00:04:22.32\00:04:26.03 You had Dr. Yang's position at first, 00:04:26.06\00:04:28.20 you were the president 00:04:28.23\00:04:29.70 for the Bangladesh Adventist Seminary and College 00:04:29.73\00:04:33.57 and then you became the Union President, right? 00:04:33.60\00:04:35.44 Yeah. 00:04:35.47\00:04:36.81 So you knew... 00:04:36.84\00:04:38.71 You mentioned to me that one of the goals 00:04:38.74\00:04:41.51 of the Bangladesh Adventist Seminary and College, 00:04:41.54\00:04:45.08 has been for a long time, 00:04:45.11\00:04:46.55 you knew you needed a nursing school. 00:04:46.58\00:04:49.28 Why did you feel, you needed a nursing school? 00:04:49.32\00:04:51.75 Actually, as we know, 00:04:51.79\00:04:53.82 Bangladesh is very poor country, 00:04:53.86\00:04:56.52 there are many people who are sick because of, 00:04:56.56\00:04:59.63 you know, hygienic problem, but many poor people, 00:04:59.66\00:05:03.87 they are not able to go to the hospital. 00:05:03.90\00:05:07.70 So when we establish a nursing school, 00:05:07.74\00:05:11.11 we can support many things to the poor people, usually. 00:05:11.14\00:05:15.64 Also, in Bangladesh, education is very important, 00:05:15.68\00:05:20.82 so when we produce many nursing students, 00:05:20.85\00:05:24.95 it can be also one of the center 00:05:24.99\00:05:27.32 of influences in our school. 00:05:27.36\00:05:29.86 Also, in Bangladesh one nurse, 00:05:29.89\00:05:34.70 there are three medical doctors. 00:05:34.73\00:05:37.37 It means, there are many medical doctors, 00:05:37.40\00:05:41.04 but we are lacking many nurses, 00:05:41.07\00:05:44.01 that's why from the beginning our church members, 00:05:44.04\00:05:48.08 they have been praying 00:05:48.11\00:05:49.64 to establish nursing school in our college, 00:05:49.68\00:05:53.95 but at the beginning, by the grace of God, 00:05:53.98\00:05:56.89 now we are building academic building 00:05:56.92\00:06:00.56 from General Conference, 00:06:00.59\00:06:01.96 Thirteen Sabbaths School Project, 00:06:01.99\00:06:05.09 some fund is coming, 00:06:05.13\00:06:06.56 we will establish academic building at first, 00:06:06.59\00:06:09.53 but in future, so soon we hope to establish nursing school. 00:06:09.56\00:06:15.34 Dr. Yang, this is a very exciting project. 00:06:15.37\00:06:19.64 How long have you been at the Bangladesh Seminary? 00:06:19.67\00:06:22.88 It is almost two years 00:06:22.91\00:06:24.65 since I have served as college president 00:06:24.68\00:06:27.52 for Bangladesh Adventist Seminary and College. 00:06:27.55\00:06:31.75 As Dr. Lee, our Bangladesh Union President mentioned, 00:06:31.79\00:06:36.56 there are three reasons 00:06:36.59\00:06:39.03 why we really need to establish nursing college at campus 00:06:39.06\00:06:44.77 of Bangladesh Adventist Seminary and College. 00:06:44.83\00:06:47.97 Number one, 00:06:48.00\00:06:50.31 there is a desperate need for nurses in Bangladesh. 00:06:50.34\00:06:55.84 As Dr. Lee mentioned, 00:06:55.88\00:06:58.05 three medical doctors have only one nurse in Bangladesh, 00:06:58.08\00:07:02.88 that's why... 00:07:02.92\00:07:04.25 That's amazing to... 00:07:04.29\00:07:06.15 to try to comprehend because it's quite... 00:07:06.19\00:07:09.06 it's just about the reverse ratio in United States, 00:07:09.09\00:07:11.96 one doctor will have three nurses, 00:07:11.99\00:07:14.20 but here, three doctors share one nurse. 00:07:14.23\00:07:16.50 You are right. That's amazing. 00:07:16.53\00:07:17.87 That's why Prime Minister Hasina 00:07:17.90\00:07:21.40 of Bangladesh, 00:07:21.44\00:07:23.20 some weeks ago pronounced 00:07:23.24\00:07:25.81 that our country needs 00:07:25.84\00:07:28.64 10,000 nurses every year. 00:07:28.68\00:07:32.91 So when we establish nursing college 00:07:32.95\00:07:35.88 at the campus of Bangladesh Adventist Seminary and College, 00:07:35.92\00:07:39.25 which is called BASC in short terminology, 00:07:39.29\00:07:44.69 then we can provide 00:07:44.73\00:07:46.90 many Adventist nurses to our country 00:07:46.93\00:07:52.63 which has 160 million people 00:07:52.67\00:07:56.77 and it will surely enhance the national health 00:07:56.81\00:08:03.41 and welfare of the country. 00:08:03.45\00:08:07.02 And... Go ahead. 00:08:07.05\00:08:08.42 And reason number two, 00:08:08.45\00:08:10.75 BASC has three departments 00:08:10.79\00:08:13.79 such as theology department for future pastors 00:08:13.82\00:08:17.86 and education department for future teachers 00:08:17.89\00:08:21.40 and business administration for future treasurers 00:08:21.43\00:08:25.23 and business managers and top managements, 00:08:25.27\00:08:30.31 but we don't have any science department. 00:08:30.34\00:08:34.78 So if we establish nursing college 00:08:34.81\00:08:38.95 at the campus of BASC, 00:08:38.98\00:08:40.98 it will surely enhance solid Adventist education 00:08:41.02\00:08:45.25 in 10/40 Window territory. 00:08:45.29\00:08:48.49 And number three, which is very important, 00:08:48.52\00:08:52.83 even though the former 00:08:52.86\00:08:55.16 two reasons are important as well, 00:08:55.20\00:09:00.20 this nursing college will enhance 00:09:00.24\00:09:03.67 the mission of the church in Bangladesh and beyond. 00:09:03.71\00:09:08.64 In Islam dominant country such as Bangladesh, 00:09:08.68\00:09:12.71 as Dr. Lee mentioned, 00:09:12.75\00:09:15.85 we cannot preach in the streets. 00:09:15.88\00:09:19.35 We cannot hand out tracks 00:09:19.39\00:09:24.06 and hand out Three Angels' Messages 00:09:24.09\00:09:27.13 in everywhere, no. 00:09:27.16\00:09:29.86 But in the campus 00:09:29.90\00:09:34.20 we can teach the scripture and Jesus Christ. 00:09:34.24\00:09:40.94 So when we establish nursing college, 00:09:40.98\00:09:44.68 we can train our young people 00:09:44.71\00:09:47.22 with the scriptures and Jesus Christ 00:09:47.25\00:09:50.25 and we can train them 00:09:50.29\00:09:51.79 as faithful witnesses of Jesus Christ 00:09:51.82\00:09:54.56 to our Bangladesh and beyond. 00:09:54.59\00:09:57.59 And the interesting thing is this, 00:09:57.63\00:10:00.80 the 60 percent of the total income 00:10:00.83\00:10:04.60 of the country Bangladesh is the money sent from overseas. 00:10:04.63\00:10:10.01 Sixty percent? 00:10:10.04\00:10:11.37 Sixty percent, because Bangladesh 00:10:11.41\00:10:13.88 has no little natural resources, 00:10:13.91\00:10:16.98 no traveling resources, Bangladesh has no resources, 00:10:17.01\00:10:23.35 but human resources in a small land. 00:10:23.39\00:10:28.22 So many young people go out overseas and work there 00:10:28.26\00:10:34.00 and they send the money to Bangladesh, 00:10:34.03\00:10:36.83 to their families and their loved ones. 00:10:36.87\00:10:41.10 So if we establish our nursing college, 00:10:41.14\00:10:45.34 then many nurses may work in Bangladesh, 00:10:45.37\00:10:50.11 but some nurses may go out and work, 00:10:50.15\00:10:55.45 sharing the Three Angels' Messages 00:10:55.48\00:10:58.15 in Middle East and other areas. 00:10:58.19\00:11:02.52 Remember that the total Muslims are 00:11:02.56\00:11:06.86 1.7 billion in the world. 00:11:06.90\00:11:11.70 So this has a tremendous, significant impact. 00:11:11.73\00:11:17.01 You know, we've said it several times 00:11:17.04\00:11:19.54 on these very interviews that God... 00:11:19.57\00:11:23.81 Jesus isn't going to return till we reach 00:11:23.85\00:11:26.92 every nation, tongue, and tribe, 00:11:26.95\00:11:29.65 and that includes 1.7 billion Muslims. 00:11:29.68\00:11:33.49 So you have you begun... 00:11:33.52\00:11:35.92 It's wonderful to know 00:11:35.96\00:11:37.29 where our 13th quarter offering is going 00:11:37.33\00:11:40.66 and it has gone to develop... 00:11:40.70\00:11:43.67 start the building for the nursing school 00:11:43.70\00:11:46.84 at the Bangladesh Adventist Seminary and College. 00:11:46.87\00:11:51.21 Has the actual construction begun? 00:11:51.24\00:11:54.44 Yes. Bangladesh Adventist Seminary and College 00:11:54.48\00:11:57.81 fund raised $150,000 00:11:57.85\00:12:02.88 and our Southern Asia Pacific division heard about this 00:12:02.92\00:12:07.92 and SSD made an action 00:12:07.96\00:12:14.36 to support this project from a 13th Sabbath offering 00:12:14.40\00:12:21.30 with $100,000 already 00:12:21.34\00:12:27.41 and then the total budget is $525,000, 00:12:27.44\00:12:33.21 and we are waiting for another $150,000 00:12:33.25\00:12:39.22 from SSD and GYC, 00:12:39.25\00:12:41.76 but we still need three hundred something thousand US dollars 00:12:41.79\00:12:46.66 and we firmly believe that God will provide. 00:12:46.70\00:12:50.13 Amen. Amen. 00:12:50.17\00:12:51.50 If somebody wanted to donate toward this, 00:12:51.53\00:12:55.00 what would be the website that they would go to? 00:12:55.04\00:12:57.44 Yeah. 00:12:57.47\00:12:59.37 Our well wishers around the world 00:12:59.41\00:13:02.28 can communicate with me as email address 00:13:02.31\00:13:06.31 yangchongho@gmail.com. 00:13:06.35\00:13:13.32 Or drpeteryang3004@gmail.com. 00:13:16.83\00:13:23.43 That's okay, go ahead. 00:13:23.47\00:13:24.80 drpeteryang3004@gmail.com. 00:13:24.83\00:13:31.47 Then I can give the information about the donation. 00:13:34.94\00:13:39.41 We really need our world churches' prayer 00:13:39.45\00:13:43.39 and support including financial support. 00:13:43.42\00:13:46.32 Amen. 00:13:46.35\00:13:47.69 What is your student population right now 00:13:47.72\00:13:49.99 at the Bangladesh Adventist Seminary and College? 00:13:50.03\00:13:53.50 BASC has 800 students. 00:13:53.53\00:13:56.23 That's amazing. 00:13:56.26\00:13:57.97 Yes. 00:13:58.00\00:13:59.33 We have 250 college students, 00:13:59.37\00:14:03.77 340 high school students, 00:14:03.81\00:14:07.04 and about 200 elementary school students. 00:14:07.08\00:14:11.08 Now, they obviously know 00:14:11.11\00:14:13.21 that you're a Christian organization in the area, 00:14:13.25\00:14:16.25 you're not hiding the church or the name of the church, 00:14:16.28\00:14:18.92 you're the Bangladesh Adventist Theology. 00:14:18.95\00:14:23.99 How do people in the local area receive you? 00:14:24.03\00:14:28.33 Because we provide 00:14:28.36\00:14:31.57 free medical service and dental service 00:14:31.60\00:14:36.50 from many parts of the world as volunteers, 00:14:36.54\00:14:41.88 just some dentists, and doctors, and nurses, 00:14:41.91\00:14:45.35 and the volunteers come to Bangladesh and serve, 00:14:45.38\00:14:49.32 so our local people are very much fond of BASC, 00:14:49.35\00:14:55.26 they love BASC so much 00:14:55.29\00:14:58.03 and the atmosphere is so sweet and friendly. 00:14:58.06\00:15:01.16 Oh, that's wonderful. 00:15:01.20\00:15:04.57 Well, trust me that you will have our prayers 00:15:04.60\00:15:08.20 and it's a very worthy cause. 00:15:08.24\00:15:10.61 So you've got about 300,000 more that needs to come in. 00:15:10.64\00:15:14.48 You've started the building, this construction has begun 00:15:14.51\00:15:17.95 and do you have a specific deadline 00:15:17.98\00:15:21.32 that you're looking to try to complete this 00:15:21.35\00:15:23.75 or just as the Lord provides? 00:15:23.79\00:15:25.25 Yes, that's a good question. 00:15:25.29\00:15:28.42 We are planning to finish constructing 00:15:28.46\00:15:31.83 our academic building, 00:15:31.86\00:15:33.63 which will be used for nursing college building 00:15:33.66\00:15:35.50 in the near future by the end of this year, 00:15:35.53\00:15:39.33 but at least by the end of April 2016... 00:15:39.37\00:15:46.04 Can I intervene? 00:15:46.07\00:15:47.41 Surely. 00:15:47.44\00:15:48.78 Next year, except this building 00:15:48.81\00:15:51.11 we're going to finish three multi... 00:15:51.15\00:15:54.45 auditorium, 2,000 people can be accommodated 00:15:54.48\00:15:58.79 and another is in our nursing school dormitory 00:15:58.82\00:16:02.82 and also academic building. 00:16:02.86\00:16:04.93 In the future, it'll be nursing school building. 00:16:04.96\00:16:09.06 Next year, Bangladesh will be 110 years 00:16:09.10\00:16:15.00 of Three Angels' Message in our celebration year. 00:16:15.04\00:16:18.14 Already, orally I invited G.C. Amen. Yes. 00:21:27.32\00:21:29.08 Now you actually went to Haiti 00:21:29.12\00:21:32.65 and performed like a medical missionary training 00:21:32.69\00:21:36.62 before the earthquake, is that correct? 00:21:36.66\00:21:39.33 That is correct. 00:21:39.36\00:21:40.70 That was 2009, 00:21:40.73\00:21:43.90 approximately six months prior to the earthquake. 00:21:43.93\00:21:47.27 A team from Wildwood Lifestyle Center accompanied me, 00:21:47.30\00:21:51.21 we spent four weeks in the country. 00:21:51.24\00:21:54.01 We conducted training for some 75 young persons, 00:21:54.04\00:21:57.78 giving them basic lifestyle training 00:21:57.81\00:22:01.42 with the acronym NEWSTART, all right. 00:22:01.45\00:22:04.15 And we conducted two small evangelistic campaign 00:22:04.19\00:22:07.56 which yielded to 11 precious souls to the glory of God. 00:22:07.59\00:22:10.79 Wonderful. 00:22:10.83\00:22:12.23 You had already purchased the land at that point. 00:22:12.26\00:22:17.10 When... after the earthquake when did you actually... 00:22:17.13\00:22:20.40 It was after the earthquake 00:22:20.44\00:22:21.77 that you actually began broadcasting, 00:22:21.80\00:22:23.14 is that correct? 00:22:23.17\00:22:24.51 Exactly. 00:22:24.54\00:22:25.87 It was July 11, 2011, 00:22:25.91\00:22:28.61 which means this is the fourth year 00:22:28.64\00:22:32.11 since we've been broadcasting in Haiti. 00:22:32.15\00:22:35.55 We're actually broadcasting in someone's home. 00:22:35.58\00:22:38.99 Our building is still under construction. 00:22:39.02\00:22:41.86 Now you're on the isle of the turtle, La Tortue... 00:22:41.89\00:22:48.06 La Tortue, you're doing well. 00:22:48.10\00:22:50.27 Tell me what is this island like? 00:22:50.30\00:22:53.17 Your signal reaches... 00:22:53.20\00:22:55.67 it has a footprint of how many people? 00:22:55.70\00:22:58.51 Did you say 2 million that your signal can reach. 00:22:58.54\00:23:01.44 Yes, we're actually broadcasting 00:23:01.48\00:23:04.01 from the island reaching Cap-Haitien, 00:23:04.05\00:23:05.98 which is in the north. 00:23:06.01\00:23:07.52 Some section in central called Bas Laleau, 00:23:07.55\00:23:10.85 and north west Mole Saint-Nicholas, 00:23:10.89\00:23:14.39 which is the place that Columbus landed 00:23:14.42\00:23:16.93 December 5, 1492. 00:23:16.96\00:23:19.09 So our signal reaches that vast territory 00:23:19.13\00:23:22.16 covering over 2 million people. 00:23:22.20\00:23:24.33 Wonderful. 00:23:24.37\00:23:25.70 And what are the results 00:23:25.73\00:23:27.07 since you've started broadcasting? 00:23:27.10\00:23:28.84 You actually do Sabbath school lessons, 00:23:28.87\00:23:32.21 you're broadcasting how many hours a day? 00:23:32.24\00:23:35.34 Presently we operate 5 hours a day, 00:23:35.38\00:23:38.61 simply because of energy. 00:23:38.65\00:23:40.65 There is no electricity on the island, 00:23:40.68\00:23:43.59 so we're using a regular generator. 00:23:43.62\00:23:46.99 And gasoline could be expensive to run a radio station. 00:23:47.02\00:23:52.09 So we're basically operating 5 hours a day. 00:23:52.13\00:23:55.36 But the result has been fantastic. 00:23:55.40\00:23:58.07 And number of persons who left the church began to return. 00:23:58.10\00:24:02.24 So that is why we keep going almost every year, 00:24:02.27\00:24:05.64 going to conduct evangelistic outreach 00:24:05.67\00:24:08.24 and encourage the brethren. 00:24:08.28\00:24:10.65 And with regards to the Sabbath school lesson, 00:24:10.68\00:24:13.48 a number of persons cannot read 00:24:13.52\00:24:16.18 are not able to purchase the quarterlies 00:24:16.22\00:24:18.75 So what we do every morning is do the Sabbath school lesson 00:24:18.79\00:24:22.49 and they listen with their battery operated radio. 00:24:22.52\00:24:25.69 So by the time they go to Sabbath school, 00:24:25.73\00:24:29.10 the teacher asks, 00:24:29.13\00:24:30.47 how many followed their daily lesson plan 00:24:30.50\00:24:31.87 and they raise their hand. 00:24:31.90\00:24:33.23 The teacher is like, how? 00:24:33.27\00:24:34.94 They say, well, we listen to the radio station, 00:24:34.97\00:24:37.67 the voice of the three angels. 00:24:37.71\00:24:40.64 We listen, so we're able to study 00:24:40.68\00:24:44.25 and to follow the daily lesson plan. 00:24:44.28\00:24:47.42 The challenge is 00:24:47.45\00:24:49.42 to stay on the air for long period of time. 00:24:49.45\00:24:52.82 And there are countries where people have access 00:24:52.85\00:24:55.89 to the Sabbath school lesson, but some do not study. 00:24:55.92\00:24:58.73 Yes. 00:24:58.76\00:25:00.10 But yet these people, only through the radio station, 00:25:00.13\00:25:04.47 they are studying, 00:25:04.50\00:25:05.83 so we want to continue that 00:25:05.87\00:25:07.20 and to grow further to spread the gospel. 00:25:07.24\00:25:10.21 Pastor St. Fleur, it's not only people 00:25:10.24\00:25:13.78 who formerly were Adventists have left the church 00:25:13.81\00:25:16.48 and returning to the church, 00:25:16.51\00:25:18.35 but you're actually seeing a lot of conversions 00:25:18.38\00:25:21.82 because of the Voice of the Three Angels radio station. 00:25:21.85\00:25:26.69 The churches are growing, people are learning, 00:25:26.72\00:25:30.19 but let's talk about where you're at as a ministry. 00:25:30.23\00:25:33.80 It's been four years now, 00:25:33.83\00:25:35.16 you're broadcasting out of someone's home, 00:25:35.20\00:25:39.27 what is it that you want to do? 00:25:39.30\00:25:41.87 You've purchased this land, 00:25:41.90\00:25:43.24 Had you begun to build it yet? 00:25:43.27\00:25:45.31 Yes, as I mentioned 00:25:45.34\00:25:47.18 we've been broadcasting in someone's home now 00:25:47.21\00:25:50.21 for the past four years. 00:25:50.25\00:25:52.05 Our building is still under construction. 00:25:52.08\00:25:55.08 Our greatest need for the present 00:25:55.12\00:25:57.59 is to equip the station with energy, 00:25:57.62\00:26:01.09 alternative means of energy 00:26:01.12\00:26:03.43 instead of using the generator. 00:26:03.46\00:26:06.46 If we could acquire 00:26:06.49\00:26:09.30 either solar panel and windmill 00:26:09.33\00:26:12.33 so that we can power up the station. 00:26:12.37\00:26:15.00 We'll be staying on the air 24/7, 00:26:15.04\00:26:18.01 that is my goal, that is my dream. 00:26:18.04\00:26:19.91 So the first thing is to equip the station with a solar panel 00:26:19.94\00:26:24.38 and the second thing 00:26:24.41\00:26:25.75 is to be able to put the roof on the building 00:26:25.78\00:26:28.88 and the furnishing so that we can move the station 00:26:28.92\00:26:31.69 from the private residence to its own location. 00:26:31.72\00:26:34.99 So you already have the building sides... 00:26:35.02\00:26:38.83 That is correct. 00:26:38.86\00:26:40.20 You just need the roof and the alternative power. 00:26:40.23\00:26:45.10 That is correct. 00:26:45.13\00:26:46.47 And if there are volunteer persons 00:26:46.50\00:26:48.37 who are interested in supporting such project, 00:26:48.40\00:26:52.27 you know, they can reach and make contact with us 00:26:52.31\00:26:54.74 and we'll be able to guide them. 00:26:54.78\00:26:58.48 In fact, some years, I'm not able to go to Haiti, 00:26:58.51\00:27:02.78 I still organize mission trip 00:27:02.82\00:27:05.29 and have persons waiting to receive them 00:27:05.32\00:27:08.06 and they just go in the territory 00:27:08.09\00:27:09.62 and begin to do their work. 00:27:09.66\00:27:12.33 Amen. I wanted... 00:27:12.36\00:27:14.30 You shared something just before we came 00:27:14.33\00:27:16.83 to sit in these seats, 00:27:16.87\00:27:18.20 about your last evangelistic effort over there 00:27:18.23\00:27:21.40 because the broadcasting 00:27:21.44\00:27:24.31 which is getting the attention of the locals, 00:27:24.34\00:27:26.78 2 million people potential audience, 00:27:26.81\00:27:29.54 but he goes over for a reaping harvest 00:27:29.58\00:27:32.65 and you actually... 00:27:32.68\00:27:35.42 This is an area 00:27:35.45\00:27:36.79 where the satanic works are going on, 00:27:36.82\00:27:39.99 there's a lot of witchcraft going on. 00:27:40.02\00:27:42.99 You actually experienced a very severe satanic attack 00:27:43.02\00:27:47.50 during your last series, didn't you? 00:27:47.53\00:27:49.60 That's correct. 00:27:49.63\00:27:50.97 It was last year August, before I went, the vision 00:27:51.00\00:27:53.84 was for me to present the Ten Commandments. 00:27:53.87\00:27:57.04 And we started August 13th, it was a Wednesday night, 00:27:57.07\00:28:03.55 to August 23rd. 00:28:03.58\00:28:05.71 Every night based on the instructions 00:28:05.75\00:28:08.52 that I felt that I received from the Lord 00:28:08.55\00:28:10.39 was to preach only one commandment. 00:28:10.42\00:28:12.52 We began with commandment number one. 00:28:12.55\00:28:14.82 When I preach on commandment number two, 00:28:14.86\00:28:18.33 which deals with graven images. 00:28:18.36\00:28:21.36 As you know, Haiti has a lot of images 00:28:21.40\00:28:24.50 and different idolatry basically, 00:28:24.53\00:28:28.60 when I preach on that commandment, 00:28:28.64\00:28:30.54 the devil was upset. 00:28:30.57\00:28:32.27 At the end of the service, 00:28:32.31\00:28:33.64 when I went home to my mother's house, 00:28:33.68\00:28:35.71 I had to walk in the dark after the service. 00:28:35.74\00:28:38.31 The devil actually came and attacked the house 00:28:38.35\00:28:40.68 where I was staying 00:28:40.72\00:28:42.05 and number of roaches came over the building 00:28:42.08\00:28:45.59 and some came inside the building. 00:28:45.62\00:28:47.79 And I just got up and killed a few of them 00:28:47.82\00:28:50.43 and the others, they just disappeared. 00:28:50.46\00:28:53.56 Don't know how they got in, didn't know how they got out, 00:28:53.60\00:28:58.27 but the Lord gave us the victory. 00:28:58.30\00:29:00.97 I know God is with this ministry 00:29:01.00\00:29:03.44 based on the victories we have experienced so far. 00:29:03.47\00:29:06.54 Amen. 00:29:06.57\00:29:07.91 I think it's precious 00:29:07.94\00:29:09.28 that you're going back to the country... 00:29:09.31\00:29:11.21 I mean the Bahamas is a beautiful area, 00:29:11.25\00:29:13.45 you're going back to an area that is also lovely, 00:29:13.48\00:29:17.95 but making a slow recovery from the earthquake 00:29:17.99\00:29:22.12 in an area of such great need 00:29:22.16\00:29:24.03 and I think it's precious 00:29:24.06\00:29:25.49 that you're going back to give back to your country. 00:29:25.53\00:29:28.90 Now we're going to give you 00:29:28.93\00:29:31.97 an email address in just a moment, 00:29:32.00\00:29:33.94 but what are some of the other things 00:29:33.97\00:29:36.71 that you have in the future. 00:29:36.74\00:29:38.64 Right now the great need 00:29:38.67\00:29:40.08 is to find the alternative power, 00:29:40.11\00:29:41.81 get a roof over this 00:29:41.84\00:29:43.45 so that you can actually start broadcasting 24/7. 00:29:43.48\00:29:47.62 But what are some of the other visions 00:29:47.65\00:29:49.52 you have for the future. 00:29:49.55\00:29:51.19 In addition to the radio station, 00:29:51.22\00:29:53.25 there are four other projects in our minds. 00:29:53.29\00:29:56.93 One is school, 00:29:56.96\00:30:00.26 to be able to provide some basic discipline, 00:30:00.30\00:30:04.33 like nursing, education, and agriculture and fisheries 00:30:04.37\00:30:08.94 that are much... 00:30:08.97\00:30:11.11 Very much needed on the island. 00:30:11.14\00:30:13.38 The other thing is the business empowerment center. 00:30:13.41\00:30:16.91 There are thousands of young people 00:30:16.95\00:30:20.15 after high school have nothing to do. 00:30:20.18\00:30:22.55 We want to be able to train them and empower them 00:30:22.58\00:30:26.05 because they need the skill 00:30:26.09\00:30:27.69 so that they can work and to feed themselves 00:30:27.72\00:30:31.03 and to support their families. 00:30:31.06\00:30:32.93 And in addition to the school, 00:30:32.96\00:30:34.90 the business empowerment center, 00:30:34.93\00:30:37.07 a clinic or healthy lifestyle center, 00:30:37.10\00:30:40.74 we would like to establish on the island 00:30:40.77\00:30:43.10 for health care purposes. 00:30:43.14\00:30:45.44 And finally, a missionary home, so when you come to the island, 00:30:45.47\00:30:50.25 you'll have a place to go 00:30:50.28\00:30:52.05 with almost some of the similar amenities 00:30:52.08\00:30:55.92 that you are accustomed to 00:30:55.95\00:30:57.75 or anybody else who wishes to come to the island. 00:30:57.79\00:31:01.42 Well, praise God for calling you there and He... 00:31:01.46\00:31:05.86 You know, the people of Haiti are precious people, 00:31:05.89\00:31:10.37 but they've been living in darkness for a long time. 00:31:10.40\00:31:13.50 And 400,000 Adventists, that's a good start, 00:31:13.54\00:31:17.07 but there's 10 million people that need to hear this message. 00:31:17.11\00:31:20.48 So we just thank you so much for the work that you're doing. 00:31:20.51\00:31:23.98 And for those of you at home 00:31:24.01\00:31:25.35 let me give you an email address, 00:31:25.38\00:31:27.05 if you would like to contact Pastor Edward St. Fleur, 00:31:27.08\00:31:31.79 you can contact him to come down on a mission trip, 00:31:31.82\00:31:34.49 maybe you can come down and help, 00:31:34.52\00:31:37.19 you know, you've got a construction background 00:31:37.23\00:31:39.59 and you can come help put a roof on this building 00:31:39.63\00:31:43.57 for the radio station, 00:31:43.60\00:31:45.20 or perhaps you know 00:31:45.23\00:31:47.04 something about alternative energy, 00:31:47.07\00:31:48.90 about solar powers, the panels and windmills, 00:31:48.94\00:31:52.64 you can contact him at E-S for his name Edward St. Fleur, 00:31:52.67\00:31:58.48 E-S la Tortue, which means the turtle, 00:31:58.51\00:32:02.48 E-S, la, 00:32:02.52\00:32:03.85 L-A-T-O-R-T-U-E@gmail.com. 00:32:03.89\00:32:10.13 And if the Lord's impressing you to support this ministry, 00:32:10.16\00:32:14.00 it is a non-profit organization 00:32:14.03\00:32:16.67 and I know that God wants to reach 00:32:16.70\00:32:20.74 the many people there in Haiti. 00:32:20.77\00:32:22.80 Thank you so much, Brother, for being here today 00:32:22.84\00:32:25.21 and thank you for the work that you're doing. 00:32:25.24\00:32:27.21 Praise the Lord, thank you for having me. 00:32:27.24\00:32:29.14 Yes. 00:32:29.18\00:32:31.45 There are many people around the world 00:32:31.48\00:32:33.58 who only receive their gospel through the radio, 00:32:33.62\00:32:37.42 as far reaching as 3ABN is and we like to accept the fact 00:32:37.45\00:32:42.89 that God has called us to reach the world, 00:32:42.92\00:32:44.56 there are many that only get their gospel through radio 00:32:44.59\00:32:47.20 and through private or personal radio stations. 00:32:47.23\00:32:50.53 So people like Edward St. Fleur 00:32:50.57\00:32:54.00 are doing a great work for the Lord, 00:32:54.04\00:32:55.97 getting the gospel out, 00:32:56.00\00:32:57.51 many times using content from 3ABN to do that 00:32:57.54\00:33:00.78 and so we're so happy to partner with them. 00:33:00.81\00:33:02.84 Up next, Conrad Vine and Marc Coleman. 00:33:02.88\00:33:05.61 We talked about niche ministries, 00:33:05.65\00:33:07.22 little ministries that target particular groups of people, 00:33:07.25\00:33:10.32 this is one, Shelley Quinn had a chance 00:33:10.35\00:33:11.92 to talk with these two men 00:33:11.95\00:33:13.29 who represent Adventist Frontier Mission, 00:33:13.32\00:33:16.39 they're building showers for refugees in Iran, 00:33:16.42\00:33:21.66 these are female refugees 00:33:21.70\00:33:23.26 and this is a very specific ministry. 00:33:23.30\00:33:25.63 This is a very interesting story. 00:33:25.67\00:33:27.00 Hello, I'm Shelley Quinn, we're coming to you 00:33:30.64\00:33:33.27 from the hall of the convention center 00:33:33.31\00:33:35.88 here at the 2015 quinquennial GC conference. 00:33:35.91\00:33:40.48 And today we have with us Conrad Vine 00:33:40.52\00:33:43.39 who is President of Adventist Frontier Missions, 00:33:43.42\00:33:46.09 we also have Marc Coleman 00:33:46.12\00:33:47.72 who is the International Field Director 00:33:47.76\00:33:50.23 for Adventist Frontier Missions. 00:33:50.26\00:33:52.26 And before we tell you of the wonderful work AFM is doing, 00:33:52.29\00:33:55.80 I just wanted to let you get to know these gentlemen 00:33:55.83\00:33:58.97 on an individual basis. 00:33:59.00\00:34:00.74 Conrad, thank you so much for being with us here today. 00:34:00.77\00:34:04.24 Please, just share with our viewers 00:34:04.27\00:34:06.27 a little of your fascinating history. 00:34:06.31\00:34:08.84 Well, it's a pleasure to be talking with you 00:34:08.88\00:34:10.51 this morning, Shelley. 00:34:10.55\00:34:11.91 I was raised in England, which explains my accent. 00:34:11.95\00:34:16.05 My father was a pastor. 00:34:16.08\00:34:18.25 I come from a family of seven pastors 00:34:18.29\00:34:20.92 and my twin brother is a pastor as well. 00:34:20.96\00:34:23.26 And God led me to serve with A.D.R.A. 00:34:23.29\00:34:26.16 for ten years in Central Asia 00:34:26.19\00:34:28.66 in places such as Azerbaijan, Tajikistan, and Afghanistan, 00:34:28.70\00:34:32.63 it brought me a wonderful wife out in the former Soviet Union, 00:34:32.67\00:34:35.77 she was raised a communist. 00:34:35.80\00:34:37.94 When communism collapsed, 00:34:37.97\00:34:39.64 she gave her life to Jesus Christ. 00:34:39.67\00:34:42.04 And just a few years ago, her family were also baptized 00:34:42.08\00:34:45.01 into the Adventist faith. 00:34:45.05\00:34:46.68 And over the last ten years, 00:34:46.72\00:34:48.48 I've been serving as an ordained pastor 00:34:48.52\00:34:50.32 in Britain and Northern Minnesota, 00:34:50.35\00:34:52.65 and now I served with Adventist Frontier Missions. 00:34:52.69\00:34:55.56 And how long have you been with AFM? 00:34:55.59\00:34:58.89 I've been serving since 2011, so four years now. 00:34:58.93\00:35:02.06 All right, and you are president. 00:35:02.10\00:35:03.43 Well, we're very glad to have you here. 00:35:03.47\00:35:05.03 Thank you. 00:35:05.07\00:35:06.40 And Marc Coleman, tell us a little of your background. 00:35:06.43\00:35:09.10 Sure, my name, as you said Marc Coleman. 00:35:09.14\00:35:12.37 I grew up in a small town in Ohio. 00:35:12.41\00:35:15.61 I always wanted to do mission work, 00:35:15.64\00:35:17.61 just had a burden to be overseas, 00:35:17.65\00:35:20.78 to travel and to share the gospel, 00:35:20.82\00:35:23.22 something that I always wanted to do. 00:35:23.25\00:35:26.59 I'm a pastor by profession. 00:35:26.62\00:35:28.89 I've pastored in Virginia and in Pennsylvania. 00:35:28.92\00:35:32.29 But while pastoring... 00:35:32.33\00:35:33.66 actually was a Bible worker before I was a pastor, 00:35:33.70\00:35:36.16 I had an opportunity to meet refugees 00:35:36.20\00:35:39.23 where I was working door to door 00:35:39.27\00:35:41.17 actually in the city of Seattle, Washington, 00:35:41.20\00:35:43.57 and while there I was impressed 00:35:43.61\00:35:46.51 that I needed to become involved 00:35:46.54\00:35:47.88 in a more tangible way in their lives 00:35:47.91\00:35:50.08 and through prayer 00:35:50.11\00:35:51.45 and just a series of providential events 00:35:51.48\00:35:53.92 ended up in the mission field with my newly wed wife 00:35:53.95\00:35:58.29 working in refugee camps in Southeast Asia 00:35:58.32\00:36:00.99 at the end of the Indo-China war. 00:36:01.02\00:36:03.96 And we came back from five years there 00:36:03.99\00:36:06.70 and pastored for several years in the States 00:36:06.73\00:36:08.70 and ended up going back to the mission field 00:36:08.73\00:36:10.90 for ten years in West Africa. 00:36:10.93\00:36:12.63 So serving in the mission fields, 00:36:12.67\00:36:16.14 sharing the gospel is something 00:36:16.17\00:36:17.51 that's in our blood. 00:36:17.54\00:36:18.87 We have two daughters who grew up in West Africa 00:36:18.91\00:36:21.24 and just a privilege 00:36:21.28\00:36:22.61 to serve and support missionaries around the world. 00:36:22.64\00:36:24.78 Now you got your Ph.D. in missiology from... 00:36:24.81\00:36:28.45 From the school in South Africa 00:36:28.48\00:36:30.35 while we were serving in the mission field. 00:36:30.39\00:36:31.89 Praise the Lord. 00:36:31.92\00:36:33.25 So shuttled back and forth between West Africa 00:36:33.29\00:36:34.62 where we were serving in Guinea to South Africa. 00:36:34.66\00:36:37.23 Had the opportunity, kind of, 00:36:37.26\00:36:38.59 to wrestle through mission issues 00:36:38.63\00:36:40.30 while studying and actually serving in the field. 00:36:40.33\00:36:43.00 So it was really good experience. 00:36:43.03\00:36:44.37 Oh, wonderful. 00:36:44.40\00:36:45.73 We just wanted to get that little personal testimony to... 00:36:45.77\00:36:48.87 It helps us get a flavor of your ministry. 00:36:48.90\00:36:51.31 Now Adventist Frontier Missions 00:36:51.34\00:36:53.61 has an incredible refugee outreach, 00:36:53.64\00:36:56.95 please share what you're doing in Iran? 00:36:56.98\00:37:00.98 Well, thank you. 00:37:01.02\00:37:02.58 Last July, like you, I was watching the news 00:37:02.62\00:37:05.99 and the news of ISIS 00:37:06.02\00:37:07.66 conquering northern Syria and northern Iraq. 00:37:07.69\00:37:10.59 And there were pictures on our TV screens 00:37:10.63\00:37:12.89 of hundreds of thousands of Christians, Muslims, 00:37:12.93\00:37:16.03 in inner cities fleeing their homes. 00:37:16.06\00:37:18.43 And as I was watching the news, I just felt moved by God 00:37:18.47\00:37:21.47 that how can I stand by and do nothing 00:37:21.50\00:37:24.21 as God's children are suffering, 00:37:24.24\00:37:25.71 and those who bear the name of Christ 00:37:25.74\00:37:27.14 are losing everything for their faith. 00:37:27.18\00:37:29.44 So we prayed about it in AFM 00:37:29.48\00:37:31.28 and we spoke with the Middle-East Union 00:37:31.31\00:37:32.88 and with A.D.R.A. 00:37:32.91\00:37:34.25 and last August, I flew in with friends 00:37:34.28\00:37:36.95 to Erbil in northern Iraq, it's the capital of Kurdistan, 00:37:36.99\00:37:40.66 and we started meeting with refugees 00:37:40.69\00:37:43.32 and learning their needs. 00:37:43.36\00:37:44.99 We were only about 50 miles from the frontlines, 00:37:45.03\00:37:47.76 the situation was very tense. 00:37:47.80\00:37:50.07 We didn't know at nights 00:37:50.10\00:37:51.43 whether ISIS would drive down the roads 00:37:51.47\00:37:53.07 and knock at the hotel and kidnap us. 00:37:53.10\00:37:55.74 It's one of those trips where you... 00:37:55.77\00:37:57.97 I made sure my wife had a life insurance policy 00:37:58.01\00:38:00.31 before we left and I left two envelopes 00:38:00.34\00:38:02.84 for my children to be read when they were 18 years old, 00:38:02.88\00:38:06.25 if I were not to return from that trip. 00:38:06.28\00:38:08.72 But since then, by God's grace, 00:38:08.75\00:38:10.59 and with the support of many generous donors 00:38:10.62\00:38:12.69 including some of 3ABN's viewers, 00:38:12.72\00:38:15.76 we've been building shower, 00:38:15.79\00:38:17.19 and latrine blocks for women refugees 00:38:17.23\00:38:19.53 so that they can cater 00:38:19.56\00:38:21.06 for their personal hygiene needs 00:38:21.10\00:38:22.70 with privacy and in safety. 00:38:22.73\00:38:24.77 We build the blocks within the camps 00:38:24.80\00:38:27.70 so that the women do not have to leave the camps at nights 00:38:27.74\00:38:30.71 where they're in danger of being trafficked 00:38:30.74\00:38:33.58 or kidnapped or sold into sexual slavery. 00:38:33.61\00:38:36.21 And we've also been giving out many relief items 00:38:36.24\00:38:39.35 for the women and children. 00:38:39.38\00:38:40.95 And right now we have a missionary family 00:38:40.98\00:38:43.92 going through training and by God's grace 00:38:43.95\00:38:46.15 they will launch later this year 00:38:46.19\00:38:48.06 and they will be a long-term mission 00:38:48.09\00:38:49.52 presence in Kurdistan 00:38:49.56\00:38:51.26 and their job will be to work among the refugees 00:38:51.29\00:38:54.93 to share the good news of Jesus as the Prince of peace. 00:38:54.96\00:38:58.33 And what I've discovered out there is that 00:38:58.37\00:39:00.27 there are many people who... 00:39:00.30\00:39:01.67 Muslims who are hurting, 00:39:01.70\00:39:03.17 they're questioning their Muslim faith 00:39:03.20\00:39:05.27 and they're very open to Jesus as the Prince of peace. 00:39:05.31\00:39:08.61 And so beyond the relief work, 00:39:08.64\00:39:11.21 we're looking to have an ongoing missionary presence 00:39:11.25\00:39:14.55 to work with people to build trust, 00:39:14.58\00:39:16.95 to share the love of Jesus Christ 00:39:16.99\00:39:19.09 and to invite them to follow Jesus 00:39:19.12\00:39:21.32 as their Lord and Savior. 00:39:21.36\00:39:23.26 Conrad, in these camps, 00:39:23.29\00:39:24.99 now your camp is very close to Mosul. 00:39:25.03\00:39:28.63 I mean, it's... 00:39:28.66\00:39:30.87 Let's say the level of danger is exceedingly high there, 00:39:30.90\00:39:34.87 but in these camps, 00:39:34.90\00:39:36.50 what is the percentage of female versus male 00:39:36.54\00:39:40.08 and what is the percentage of Christians? 00:39:40.11\00:39:42.31 Those are very good questions. 00:39:42.34\00:39:43.95 As a general rule, 00:39:43.98\00:39:45.31 about 70 percent of the inhabitants of the camps 00:39:45.35\00:39:48.78 are women and children. 00:39:48.82\00:39:51.22 The men are either away fighting 00:39:51.25\00:39:53.09 or they were killed by ISIS. 00:39:53.12\00:39:55.09 And there are many, many women who have their household, 00:39:55.12\00:39:58.63 they have multiple children and no male relatives. 00:39:58.66\00:40:02.03 And within the camps, you have a basic split of, 00:40:02.06\00:40:05.57 some are mostly Sunni Muslim, 00:40:05.60\00:40:08.07 some camps are mostly Yazidis, 00:40:08.10\00:40:10.97 and some are Christians. 00:40:11.01\00:40:13.34 And maybe half of the refugees are Christians 00:40:13.38\00:40:15.98 and there were about 1.8 million refugees 00:40:16.01\00:40:19.51 came into Kurdistan last August, 00:40:19.55\00:40:21.82 and to put it into proportion, 00:40:21.85\00:40:24.02 there are 300 million people in the United States 00:40:24.05\00:40:26.55 and imagine if 350 million people 00:40:26.59\00:40:28.99 crossed from Mexico into United States 00:40:29.02\00:40:31.36 in a two week period, how would we house them? 00:40:31.39\00:40:33.83 How would we feed them? 00:40:33.86\00:40:35.33 How would we give them healthcare? 00:40:35.36\00:40:37.23 We met women who marched nine months pregnant 00:40:37.27\00:40:40.70 through the deserts, 00:40:40.74\00:40:42.07 they arrived in Erbil and on the streets gave birth, 00:40:42.10\00:40:46.31 but they held their babies with smiles, saying, we did it, 00:40:46.34\00:40:50.05 we survived, we made it through the crisis. 00:40:50.08\00:40:52.71 And so it's just a privilege to stand by families 00:40:52.75\00:40:55.82 who have lost everything for the name of Jesus Christ. 00:40:55.85\00:40:58.75 And to say that as a fellow Christian, 00:40:58.79\00:41:01.29 we're gonna stand by in your hour of need, 00:41:01.32\00:41:03.32 but we're also going to share 00:41:03.36\00:41:04.69 the good news of Jesus Christ with the Muslims 00:41:04.73\00:41:07.36 who are also in the camps as well. 00:41:07.40\00:41:09.06 And how receptive are they? 00:41:09.10\00:41:12.70 Actually, right now 00:41:12.73\00:41:14.44 the Spirit of God is being poured out 00:41:14.47\00:41:15.87 in a mighty way in the Muslim world. 00:41:15.90\00:41:17.97 And in Kurdistan in particular, 00:41:18.01\00:41:19.64 there are many Muslims who are open to the gospel 00:41:19.67\00:41:22.04 because they say that ISIS are salafists, 00:41:22.08\00:41:26.21 they're very strict form of Sunni Islam, 00:41:26.25\00:41:28.42 they're very conservative Muslims, 00:41:28.45\00:41:30.92 you might say. 00:41:30.95\00:41:32.29 And the people are saying, 00:41:32.32\00:41:33.66 well, if this is what strict Islam means 00:41:33.69\00:41:35.82 that you can go and behead people 00:41:35.86\00:41:37.76 and take their daughters into sexual slavery 00:41:37.79\00:41:40.40 and murder and rape at will, 00:41:40.43\00:41:42.10 then we want nothing to do with this. 00:41:42.13\00:41:44.27 And so right now while people are questioning 00:41:44.30\00:41:47.07 their Islamic heritage, 00:41:47.10\00:41:48.44 now is the time to have missionaries on the ground 00:41:48.47\00:41:50.94 sharing the good news of the soon returning Savior. 00:41:50.97\00:41:53.48 Now speaking of having missionaries on the ground, 00:41:53.51\00:41:56.78 Adventist Frontier Mission or AFM is also facilitating 00:41:56.81\00:42:02.98 what you might call a tentmaker ministry 00:42:03.02\00:42:05.85 as Paul the Apostle was a tentmaker 00:42:05.89\00:42:08.96 and out on the mission fields. 00:42:08.99\00:42:10.73 Tell us a little about your tentmaker mission. 00:42:10.76\00:42:14.80 Well, we're following the steps of the Apostle Paul 00:42:14.83\00:42:17.37 who viewed his professional skills 00:42:17.40\00:42:19.33 as an asset to ministry. 00:42:19.37\00:42:22.07 James, John, Peter, and Andrew, 00:42:22.10\00:42:24.17 they left their role as fishermen 00:42:24.21\00:42:26.88 and they left their profession behind to be disciples, 00:42:26.91\00:42:29.18 but the Apostle Paul, the greatest Apostle of all, 00:42:29.21\00:42:32.08 he uses professional skills 00:42:32.11\00:42:33.98 as an asset in the mission field. 00:42:34.02\00:42:35.78 So we have a tentmaker ministry in AFM 00:42:35.82\00:42:38.49 and we're trying to invite young professionals 00:42:38.52\00:42:41.92 or experienced professional to go to our website, 00:42:41.96\00:42:46.06 it's gotential, like potential but with a G. 00:42:46.09\00:42:48.46 Gotential.org. 00:42:48.50\00:42:49.83 Gotential, so potential with a G. 00:42:49.86\00:42:51.97 Gotential.org. 00:42:52.00\00:42:53.50 And there they can find 00:42:53.54\00:42:54.87 the biblical basis for tent making. 00:42:54.90\00:42:57.01 There are many websites there 00:42:57.04\00:42:58.37 where you can find 00:42:58.41\00:42:59.74 professional employments in the mission field 00:42:59.77\00:43:02.44 and we're encouraging people 00:43:02.48\00:43:04.08 to find professional employment, 00:43:04.11\00:43:05.85 maybe in Saudi Arabia, or China, 00:43:05.88\00:43:07.95 or Morocco, or Egypt to use your professional skills 00:43:07.98\00:43:11.85 and find a private employer. 00:43:11.89\00:43:13.42 There are thousands of jobs 00:43:13.46\00:43:14.96 going for English speaking professionals 00:43:14.99\00:43:16.83 in the mission field. 00:43:16.86\00:43:18.39 And when you've launched to the mission field, 00:43:18.43\00:43:20.30 you go there, not so much to be a professional there, 00:43:20.33\00:43:24.27 but you are using your professional skills 00:43:24.30\00:43:26.07 to give you a visa 00:43:26.10\00:43:27.44 and then you can plant a church, a house church 00:43:27.47\00:43:29.80 in which ever country or city you happen to be living in. 00:43:29.84\00:43:32.37 And even today there are churches in the Middle East, 00:43:32.41\00:43:35.71 I won't mention by name, 00:43:35.74\00:43:37.31 but there are churches in the Middle East 00:43:37.35\00:43:38.68 that were established by physicians and nurses 00:43:38.71\00:43:41.05 and physical therapists, thriving house churches 00:43:41.08\00:43:44.35 that were established by tent makers. 00:43:44.39\00:43:46.35 And so our tentmaker ministry is designed 00:43:46.39\00:43:50.69 so that nobody is AFM's employee, 00:43:50.73\00:43:53.06 there's no financial relationship with AFM, 00:43:53.09\00:43:55.43 we have a coaching and a training relationship 00:43:55.46\00:43:58.47 to encourage people. 00:43:58.50\00:43:59.83 We say, this is how you find work, 00:43:59.87\00:44:01.27 this is a check list of what you need to do 00:44:01.30\00:44:03.41 before you go, in terms of having 00:44:03.44\00:44:04.91 a well and supporting church and prayer partners, 00:44:04.94\00:44:08.28 and when you get to the field, 00:44:08.31\00:44:09.94 we can coach you in how to plant a church, 00:44:09.98\00:44:12.78 how to gain decisions for Jesus Christ, 00:44:12.81\00:44:14.98 how to lead an inductive Bible study, 00:44:15.02\00:44:17.09 common questions and answers you may have with Muslims 00:44:17.12\00:44:19.52 or with Hindus or with Buddhists. 00:44:19.55\00:44:21.82 And so this is a new ministry we've begun 00:44:21.86\00:44:24.33 and we just like to encourage all of your viewers, 00:44:24.36\00:44:26.63 if they have professional skills 00:44:26.66\00:44:28.56 and maybe they sense they've accomplished 00:44:28.60\00:44:30.63 all they want to in their home country 00:44:30.67\00:44:33.07 and they've reached a plateau in their career, 00:44:33.10\00:44:35.04 well, they sense God calling them 00:44:35.07\00:44:36.47 to be a tentmaker like the Apostle Paul, 00:44:36.50\00:44:38.41 to check out our website, gotential.org 00:44:38.44\00:44:41.21 and pray about launching as a tentmaker 00:44:41.24\00:44:43.75 to the 10/40 Mission window 00:44:43.78\00:44:45.38 and just seeing what God can do through each one of us 00:44:45.41\00:44:49.02 with our professional skills, it's a thrilling opportunity. 00:44:49.05\00:44:51.65 And I believe that the Lord has given AFM this vision 00:44:51.69\00:44:55.16 but I know He's got His call on many people here 00:44:55.19\00:44:59.89 who are hearing this message. 00:44:59.93\00:45:01.43 So if the Spirit of the Lord 00:45:01.46\00:45:02.80 is stirring your heart right now, 00:45:02.83\00:45:04.33 I encourage you to pray 00:45:04.37\00:45:05.90 and then go to the website gotential, 00:45:05.93\00:45:08.77 G-O-T-E-N-T-I-A-L.org and check this out 00:45:08.80\00:45:14.28 because God is not going to... 00:45:14.31\00:45:17.21 Christ isn't going to return 00:45:17.25\00:45:18.65 until all the people of the world 00:45:18.68\00:45:20.42 have been reached. 00:45:20.45\00:45:21.78 And this 10/40 Window, 00:45:21.82\00:45:23.35 there's still a number of people 00:45:23.39\00:45:25.45 who are looking for 00:45:25.49\00:45:27.22 and Muslims are actually looking 00:45:27.26\00:45:28.79 for the return of Christ, 00:45:28.82\00:45:30.23 they just haven't recognized him yet 00:45:30.26\00:45:32.29 as the Son of God, as the Prince of peace. 00:45:32.33\00:45:35.36 So I encourage you to do that. 00:45:35.40\00:45:37.37 Thank you, Conrad, for sharing. Thank you. 00:45:37.40\00:45:39.10 Now, Marc, you as the Director 00:45:39.13\00:45:42.50 of the International Field Activities 00:45:42.54\00:45:44.87 for Adventist Frontier Mission, 00:45:44.91\00:45:46.61 kind of give us an overview of what AFM is doing 00:45:46.64\00:45:51.41 in addition to this refugee outreach 00:45:51.45\00:45:54.48 and the tentmaker ministry? 00:45:54.52\00:45:55.85 Well, we have missionaries around the world 00:45:55.88\00:45:59.65 and our goal is to... 00:45:59.69\00:46:02.16 Our goal is to put people in places 00:46:02.19\00:46:04.93 where the church is not developed. 00:46:04.96\00:46:06.80 So we are there to plant the church, 00:46:06.83\00:46:09.80 to spread the gospel where Jesus is not known 00:46:09.83\00:46:12.83 or where the church is very small or not developed. 00:46:12.87\00:46:17.47 So what we're often doing is we're actually, 00:46:17.51\00:46:19.81 our missionaries are not only sharing the gospel 00:46:19.84\00:46:22.21 but they're having to work 00:46:22.24\00:46:23.78 without an infrastructure, without a support. 00:46:23.81\00:46:26.75 In Africa, we're planting churches 00:46:26.78\00:46:28.98 in many Muslim areas, 00:46:29.02\00:46:30.75 In Southeast Asia and South Asia 00:46:30.79\00:46:32.85 we're spreading the Gospel there 00:46:32.89\00:46:35.09 and seeing the beginnings of God 00:46:35.12\00:46:38.39 doing a movement in places 00:46:38.43\00:46:39.76 where there have never been a Christians before. 00:46:39.79\00:46:42.60 In Europe as well we are... 00:46:42.63\00:46:45.93 It's hard to imagine that Europe is a big mission field, 00:46:45.97\00:46:48.94 but in Europe we are seeing people come to Christ 00:46:48.97\00:46:53.38 as a result of our missionaries' work. 00:46:53.41\00:46:54.94 So we work in many places around the world. 00:46:54.98\00:46:58.38 One thing that we're seeing and as we talk about the, 00:46:58.41\00:47:02.28 you know, as we approach the end of time 00:47:02.32\00:47:03.65 as we see the great controversy coming to an end, 00:47:03.69\00:47:06.09 our missionaries are often working 00:47:06.12\00:47:07.66 in very challenging circumstances, 00:47:07.69\00:47:11.06 they face a number of challenges 00:47:11.09\00:47:15.13 that threaten, we can say, 00:47:15.16\00:47:18.23 threaten their work or impede their work, 00:47:18.27\00:47:19.90 but if handled in faith and prayer, 00:47:19.93\00:47:24.14 we also see that those become powerful opportunities 00:47:24.17\00:47:27.61 to gain credibility 00:47:27.64\00:47:28.98 and to even win people to Christ. 00:47:29.01\00:47:30.75 Right, now tell me a little bit about the... 00:47:30.78\00:47:33.92 as far as your language abilities, 00:47:33.95\00:47:37.62 does someone need to be multilingual, 00:47:37.65\00:47:39.45 I know you are multilingual, speaking several languages 00:47:39.49\00:47:42.76 to become a missionary in these areas, 00:47:42.79\00:47:45.13 are you looking for people who are multilingual 00:47:45.16\00:47:47.63 or what are the requirements? 00:47:47.66\00:47:49.36 We're looking for people who are first willing. 00:47:49.40\00:47:51.60 Obviously being multilingual or bilingual helps, 00:47:51.63\00:47:55.20 but AFM does give training in how to learn a language, 00:47:55.24\00:47:58.71 but most of all we could depend on the Holy Spirit 00:47:58.74\00:48:01.48 to guide us and to help us to learn a language. 00:48:01.51\00:48:03.85 So when I went as a missionary, I only spoke one language, 00:48:03.88\00:48:07.22 but God gives us the ability in the field to learn 00:48:07.25\00:48:10.12 and there may be different levels of proficiency 00:48:10.15\00:48:12.25 in learning a language, 00:48:12.29\00:48:13.62 but it is definitely something that can be learned. 00:48:13.66\00:48:16.83 And a lot of people have gifts that they don't know of. 00:48:16.86\00:48:19.46 So no, you don't have to be multilingual to be a missionary 00:48:19.49\00:48:22.53 and many people will become multilingual in their service. 00:48:22.56\00:48:25.10 Amen. 00:48:25.13\00:48:26.47 How many different churches are being planted? 00:48:26.50\00:48:29.67 Do you have a number? 00:48:29.70\00:48:31.04 We haven't kept numbers, 00:48:31.07\00:48:33.24 but I think 60-70 churches over the last several years 00:48:33.27\00:48:38.38 we've seen planted as a result of the work of AFM. 00:48:38.41\00:48:41.65 And again, I have to say that these are sometimes churches 00:48:41.68\00:48:44.35 that are working in a setting 00:48:44.39\00:48:47.06 where there is not a neighboring church 00:48:47.09\00:48:49.69 three hours away or five hours away. 00:48:49.72\00:48:51.49 These may be isolated churches. 00:48:51.53\00:48:53.23 So our missionaries often stay longer 00:48:53.26\00:48:55.60 then you'd normally expect 00:48:55.63\00:48:58.20 because they have to build up a support structure 00:48:58.23\00:49:00.87 so that the work doesn't die when they leave. 00:49:00.90\00:49:03.17 And then if I were say a... If I... 00:49:03.20\00:49:06.74 My husband and I were young and wanted to... 00:49:06.78\00:49:09.61 Felt the call of God 00:49:09.64\00:49:10.98 to do something more meaningful with our life, 00:49:11.01\00:49:13.85 if we were to come into this remote area, 00:49:13.88\00:49:17.39 does AFM help with Bible study materials? 00:49:17.42\00:49:20.89 What kind of support does AFM give the missionaries? 00:49:20.92\00:49:24.33 Very good question. 00:49:24.36\00:49:25.69 First, before missionaries leave, 00:49:25.73\00:49:28.60 they are trained and given skills 00:49:28.63\00:49:31.73 to live in an environment, to study the environment, 00:49:31.77\00:49:34.24 to study the language, to integrate with the people, 00:49:34.27\00:49:37.17 so they don't feel like total strangers when they go. 00:49:37.21\00:49:41.68 Then all during their service AFM has Field Directors 00:49:41.71\00:49:45.61 that visit them regularly, stay in contact with them 00:49:45.65\00:49:49.18 through electronic communication, 00:49:49.22\00:49:50.55 if such is available or other means of communication 00:49:50.59\00:49:53.62 and every one of their needs that we can humanly support, 00:49:53.66\00:49:57.76 we do our best to do to support. 00:49:57.79\00:49:59.33 So even though they may be in an area 00:49:59.36\00:50:01.30 where there's no church support, 00:50:01.33\00:50:02.66 they still have AFM's support. 00:50:02.70\00:50:04.10 They do. They do. Praise the Lord. 00:50:04.13\00:50:05.70 And I know, I just believe with my heart, 00:50:05.73\00:50:08.54 someone God is tugging at the heart strings 00:50:08.57\00:50:11.34 of many people to do this. 00:50:11.37\00:50:13.38 One question that I didn't ask you, Conrad, 00:50:13.41\00:50:16.18 that I do want to ask is in the refugee camps, 00:50:16.21\00:50:20.68 do you have an idea 00:50:20.72\00:50:22.45 of the populous of this refugee camp 00:50:22.48\00:50:24.59 that's just 50 miles out of Mosul? 00:50:24.62\00:50:27.26 Yes, well, the total refugee population 00:50:27.29\00:50:29.56 is almost 1.8 million in Kurdistan. 00:50:29.59\00:50:32.86 And some of the camps are run by the United Nations, 00:50:32.89\00:50:36.53 they have maybe 30 or 40,000 people in them, 00:50:36.56\00:50:40.14 but only a third of the refugees 00:50:40.17\00:50:41.87 are in formal refugee camps. 00:50:41.90\00:50:43.84 The rest of them are living 00:50:43.87\00:50:45.21 in unfinished construction sites, 00:50:45.24\00:50:47.18 waste and dumps. They're living in schools, 00:50:47.21\00:50:50.78 you go to churches 00:50:50.81\00:50:52.31 and you may have three families living 00:50:52.35\00:50:54.18 on every pew in the church. 00:50:54.22\00:50:56.25 And so the refugee camps vary in size 00:50:56.28\00:50:58.85 from 2 or 3 hundreds to 40 or 50 thousand, 00:50:58.89\00:51:01.92 the largest camps. 00:51:01.96\00:51:03.46 And some of the refugee camps 00:51:03.49\00:51:05.49 are very close to the frontlines. 00:51:05.53\00:51:07.50 And some of them are slightly further away. 00:51:07.53\00:51:10.73 But in Kurdistan, 00:51:10.77\00:51:12.60 no refugee is more than a couple of hours drive 00:51:12.63\00:51:14.84 from ISIS and to hear their stories of suffering, 00:51:14.87\00:51:20.01 to listen to an Iraqi women, a Christian lady 00:51:20.04\00:51:23.04 sharing her how on her way out of Mosul, 00:51:23.08\00:51:26.65 the ISIS fighters took her watch, her rings, 00:51:26.68\00:51:31.22 her belt, her shoes, anything of value, 00:51:31.25\00:51:33.56 and they would also take their young daughters. 00:51:33.59\00:51:36.56 And the mother knows 00:51:36.59\00:51:38.03 what those girls are going through now. 00:51:38.06\00:51:40.50 And to hear the ladies 00:51:40.53\00:51:42.06 just expressing their pain and anguish, 00:51:42.10\00:51:44.87 I understood for the first time 00:51:44.90\00:51:46.37 why in the book of Job it's said that 00:51:46.40\00:51:47.84 when Job's friends came to see him, 00:51:47.87\00:51:49.94 he saw the death and the suffering 00:51:49.97\00:51:51.41 and they were silent for seven days. 00:51:51.44\00:51:53.61 In the face of such evil, we can only be silent. 00:51:53.64\00:51:56.81 But Jesus also said in Beatitudes that, 00:51:56.85\00:51:59.51 after the final Beatitude he said, 00:51:59.55\00:52:00.88 "Blessed are you when men persecute you." 00:52:00.92\00:52:02.98 And the next teaching was, 00:52:03.02\00:52:04.35 "You shall be the light of the world." 00:52:04.39\00:52:06.02 So it's in the midst of evil 00:52:06.05\00:52:07.72 that God is causing and calling us 00:52:07.76\00:52:09.32 to Seventh-day Adventists 00:52:09.36\00:52:10.73 to stand up and say there is good, 00:52:10.76\00:52:12.96 there is a loving heavenly Father, 00:52:12.99\00:52:14.53 there is hope because 00:52:14.56\00:52:15.90 there is a soon returning Savior, 00:52:15.93\00:52:17.30 and that is why we serve in places such as Kurdistan. 00:52:17.33\00:52:19.63 Amen. 00:52:19.67\00:52:21.00 Well, this has been so exciting for me to learn about 00:52:21.04\00:52:24.04 the refugee outreach we have. 00:52:24.07\00:52:25.84 That's new for me. 00:52:25.87\00:52:27.21 And I believe so much, I want to thank you both, 00:52:27.24\00:52:31.41 Marc and Conrad, for being here today. 00:52:31.45\00:52:34.18 But I believe, just as the Lord is moving on my heart, 00:52:34.22\00:52:37.49 He is moving on your heart at home. 00:52:37.52\00:52:39.52 And if you feel that you would like to support AFM, 00:52:39.55\00:52:44.43 Adventist Frontier Mission, 00:52:44.46\00:52:45.79 you may go to AFMonline.org, is that correct? 00:52:45.83\00:52:51.23 There's no hyphen? No. 00:52:51.27\00:52:52.60 Just AFMonline.org 00:52:52.63\00:52:57.11 and you can support this refugee ministry 00:52:57.14\00:52:59.67 and you can support... 00:52:59.71\00:53:01.04 Maybe God's calling you to be like Paul and be a tentmaker, 00:53:01.08\00:53:04.85 take your profession and use that to get the visa 00:53:04.88\00:53:09.18 and start a church in one of these countries 00:53:09.22\00:53:12.29 in the 10/40 window, 00:53:12.32\00:53:13.66 or maybe you would like to be a missionary 00:53:13.69\00:53:16.09 as Marc was telling us. 00:53:16.12\00:53:17.83 I know that time is short. 00:53:17.86\00:53:19.49 I believe with all of my heart that God wants to reach 00:53:19.53\00:53:23.70 the Muslim people as well as there are so many 00:53:23.73\00:53:27.27 who have a sincere heart for God. 00:53:27.30\00:53:29.64 So God is looking for people who are willing to sacrifice, 00:53:29.67\00:53:34.74 maybe a little of their comfort, 00:53:34.78\00:53:36.41 step outside of the box, 00:53:36.44\00:53:38.11 be led by the Holy Spirit 00:53:38.15\00:53:40.28 and I just want to encourage you 00:53:40.32\00:53:42.55 to go to AFMonline.org. 00:53:42.58\00:53:46.86 Thank you so much for joining us, 00:53:46.89\00:53:49.09 and we'll have more 00:53:49.12\00:53:50.66 straight from San Antonio for you soon to see. 00:53:50.69\00:53:54.73 Thank you.
