We were so excited. 00:16:16.04\00:16:17.97 We wanted to spread the word 00:16:18.01\00:16:20.98 Northern in New England, and so... 00:16:21.01\00:16:24.51 Well, we were on all in the search 00:16:24.55\00:16:26.61 for a opportunity 00:16:26.65\00:16:30.59 to develop a downlink, 00:16:30.62\00:16:34.26 through a FCC permit. 00:16:34.29\00:16:38.56 And as the Lord led, 00:16:39.89\00:16:43.20 we came across a pentecostal brother, 00:16:43.23\00:16:48.80 who had a system in Water-- 00:16:48.84\00:16:51.24 Well, it was license to the city of Waterville, Maine. 00:16:51.27\00:16:55.71 And he came to the point where that he wanted to sell. 00:16:55.74\00:17:02.65 And it was around $80,000. 00:17:02.68\00:17:07.16 And subsequently, things changed for him 00:17:07.19\00:17:10.53 and he was ready to sell for 50,000. 00:17:10.56\00:17:13.60 So Moses came up and looked at the situation 00:17:13.63\00:17:18.20 and recommended that we do that. 00:17:18.23\00:17:20.34 Isn't that just fantastic? 00:17:20.37\00:17:21.97 So with your efforts, 00:17:22.00\00:17:23.34 we were able to get on a downlink up there in Maine. 00:17:23.37\00:17:25.14 Yeah. 00:17:25.17\00:17:26.51 So because of your efforts, 00:17:26.54\00:17:27.88 the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ 00:17:27.91\00:17:29.81 has been spread all over that area up there. 00:17:29.84\00:17:32.91 And Pat shared with me. 00:17:32.95\00:17:34.48 I can read the story about how 3ABN started many times 00:17:34.52\00:17:37.99 and still get something out of it. 00:17:38.02\00:17:39.35 Correct. 00:17:39.39\00:17:40.72 Because it's such a wonderful story. 00:17:40.76\00:17:42.09 And to know, you're part of it. Right. 00:17:42.12\00:17:43.86 Yes, I thrill every time I hear the story. 00:17:43.89\00:17:46.73 You know, we're here today to talk about 00:17:46.76\00:17:50.87 our Planned Giving and Trust Services department, 00:17:50.90\00:17:53.90 and the different instruments, and so forth. 00:17:53.94\00:17:56.14 And I know, Bob, that you and Pat 00:17:56.17\00:18:01.11 have looked into writing a document, 00:18:01.14\00:18:04.45 and you have written a document with us. 00:18:04.48\00:18:06.45 Right. 00:18:06.48\00:18:07.82 Tell us what prompted you to look into that possibility 00:18:07.85\00:18:12.15 or the need that you saw 00:18:12.19\00:18:14.06 to become a part of the Planned Giving and Trust Services. 00:18:14.09\00:18:17.69 Well, it was exactly nine years ago, this month, 00:18:17.73\00:18:22.70 that I was diagnosed as a result of a colonoscopy, 00:18:22.73\00:18:26.90 with colon cancer. 00:18:26.94\00:18:29.87 And they moved me 00:18:29.90\00:18:34.34 right from the colonoscopy, 00:18:34.38\00:18:37.41 very next morning, into surgery. 00:18:37.45\00:18:40.95 It happened fast and the things happened pretty fast. 00:18:40.98\00:18:44.65 In our neck of the woods, when Pat or I are in trouble, 00:18:44.69\00:18:48.39 because our precious daughter Shoran 00:18:48.42\00:18:51.09 is an RN and knows the system very well, 00:18:51.13\00:18:55.26 and so the next morning 00:18:55.30\00:18:57.57 after having received the two units of blood, 00:18:57.60\00:19:01.90 I was operated on. 00:19:01.94\00:19:05.11 I had a appendectomy, cholecystectomy, 00:19:05.14\00:19:11.85 and a portion of my ascending colon was removed. 00:19:11.88\00:19:17.39 Right. 00:19:17.42\00:19:19.59 And it turned out that there were still 00:19:19.62\00:19:24.13 cancer cells in the lymph system. 00:19:24.16\00:19:27.36 So the surgeon recommended Adjuvant chemotherapy. 00:19:27.40\00:19:34.30 At that point, we didn't have a will. 00:19:34.34\00:19:37.94 And we went to our attorney 00:19:37.97\00:19:41.44 and in a very desperate situation, 00:19:41.48\00:19:45.15 to have a will drawn up. 00:19:45.18\00:19:48.08 It's really not the best time to, 00:19:52.72\00:19:55.39 have a will drawn up, at a time when you're facing... 00:19:55.42\00:19:57.69 In a crisis. Yes. 00:19:57.73\00:19:59.73 It is easy to miss important facts too. 00:19:59.76\00:20:02.20 Yes. 00:20:02.23\00:20:03.57 That' one of the things that you shared with me, 00:20:03.60\00:20:05.03 that even though you had drawn that up, 00:20:05.07\00:20:07.27 you have missed some very important things 00:20:07.30\00:20:09.90 that you wanted to do for your family, 00:20:09.94\00:20:12.01 and your church and 3ABN. 00:20:12.04\00:20:14.14 Yes. 00:20:14.18\00:20:15.51 But you were in a crisis situation. 00:20:15.54\00:20:18.21 And you knew, you needed to do something. 00:20:18.25\00:20:19.75 Right. 00:20:19.78\00:20:21.12 So I think, and we want to get back 00:20:21.15\00:20:22.75 to what you were telling us, 00:20:22.78\00:20:24.39 but I think, what we need to see here, 00:20:24.42\00:20:26.72 would you concur with this, Barry, 00:20:26.76\00:20:29.49 is that we need to make decisions 00:20:29.52\00:20:32.16 in a clear thinking time, not in a crisis time. 00:20:32.19\00:20:35.76 Correct. So. 00:20:35.80\00:20:37.37 So you were in that situation, so you went to your attorney. 00:20:37.40\00:20:40.77 As things matured, I went on to the chemotherapy. 00:20:45.04\00:20:50.11 And after three injections, infusions, 00:20:50.15\00:20:56.82 I had adhesions. 00:20:56.85\00:20:58.82 And nothing was going through me. 00:20:58.85\00:21:01.89 There was-- 00:21:01.92\00:21:03.26 It's quite a story about how I got back 00:21:03.29\00:21:04.63 into the hospital system to have that treated. 00:21:04.66\00:21:07.73 But as a result, 00:21:07.76\00:21:09.46 I had to have a second operation 00:21:09.50\00:21:12.20 to remove the blockage, 00:21:12.23\00:21:16.20 in a very compromised situation. 00:21:16.24\00:21:18.47 But my surgeon, he came around 00:21:23.24\00:21:27.68 one of the mornings to check on me. 00:21:27.72\00:21:29.65 And I was becoming a little bit more lucid 00:21:29.68\00:21:33.46 and he said, "If I were you, I wouldn't try that again, 00:21:33.49\00:21:37.13 "meaning the chemotherapy. 00:21:37.16\00:21:38.53 Right. 00:21:38.56\00:21:39.89 He says, that's what caused the adhesions. 00:21:39.93\00:21:43.10 And he says, "If you go to the oncologist, 00:21:43.13\00:21:48.07 they would deny that." 00:21:48.10\00:21:50.71 But that was his opinion. 00:21:50.74\00:21:53.88 He says, "If I were you, 00:21:53.91\00:21:55.71 I would find myself a good holistic practitioner." 00:21:55.74\00:22:00.02 And he says that my wife knows more about it than I do, 00:22:00.05\00:22:04.52 but that what I would do. 00:22:04.55\00:22:07.06 So when Pat came to visit me that day, 00:22:07.09\00:22:11.66 she was ecstatic to realize that 00:22:11.69\00:22:15.46 we're getting this kind of information. 00:22:15.50\00:22:18.87 And that was the beginning of Northern Botanicals, 00:22:18.90\00:22:23.74 which developed over a few years, 00:22:23.77\00:22:27.68 and to this point, 00:22:27.71\00:22:31.65 we've continued for 15 or 16 years with it and if any one's, 00:22:31.68\00:22:37.49 if the viewers are interested, 00:22:37.52\00:22:39.52 they can check it out on 00:22:39.55\00:22:41.42 the world wide web at northernbotanicals.com 00:22:41.46\00:22:45.36 Okay. Very good. 00:22:45.39\00:22:46.83 But it was this crisis, Pat, 00:22:46.86\00:22:48.96 that put you in a position to realize, 00:22:49.00\00:22:51.37 I or we need to do something concerning our future. 00:22:51.40\00:22:56.47 Exactly. Exactly. 00:22:56.50\00:22:58.37 We had, at that time, 21 rental units 00:22:58.41\00:23:04.11 and four of Bob's family 00:23:04.15\00:23:09.52 has succumbed to cancer, 00:23:09.55\00:23:12.05 three has passed as a result of the cancer. 00:23:12.09\00:23:16.16 And so, you know, I was very concerned, 00:23:16.19\00:23:18.89 I wanted to trust the Lord, 00:23:18.93\00:23:20.26 everything was gonna be alright, 00:23:20.30\00:23:21.73 you know, but we don't know. 00:23:21.76\00:23:24.27 And so you know, it was, it was a difficult time 00:23:24.30\00:23:29.47 Just recalling that too, Mollie, you know, and... 00:23:29.50\00:23:35.21 So it was at that point that we engaged the services 00:23:35.24\00:23:40.55 of an attorney and... 00:23:40.58\00:23:42.82 Well, I know, at some point you contacted 00:23:42.85\00:23:45.65 3ABN's Trust Services department. 00:23:45.69\00:23:47.76 Yes, we did. We did. 00:23:47.79\00:23:49.56 And, Earlenne, what was the document 00:23:49.59\00:23:51.66 that you feel like, 00:23:51.69\00:23:53.03 felt like would best suit their situation? 00:23:53.06\00:23:57.50 Well, they wanted to do a trust with us where they would know 00:23:57.53\00:24:01.57 where they were putting their property. 00:24:01.60\00:24:03.47 Right. 00:24:03.51\00:24:04.84 And you had all of these rentals, 00:24:04.87\00:24:08.11 and they still have cottages up there. 00:24:08.14\00:24:10.41 And by the way, you have a beautiful place up there. 00:24:10.45\00:24:12.98 And what were you gonna do with it? 00:24:13.01\00:24:15.48 You didn't know how you were gonna divide it. 00:24:15.52\00:24:17.52 How, you're who you were gonna be able to give what to. 00:24:17.55\00:24:19.95 And what you needed to work out as far as legally in advance. 00:24:19.99\00:24:24.59 That's what, you really were looking forward 00:24:24.63\00:24:26.43 when you called us. 00:24:26.46\00:24:27.80 Yes. So we made a trip up to Maine. 00:24:27.83\00:24:30.73 It was threefold, and so it was easy to work in 00:24:30.77\00:24:33.80 with the Mannings, while we were there. 00:24:33.84\00:24:35.47 And it worked out very well. 00:24:35.50\00:24:37.31 And we shared, but we were greeted with this meal first, 00:24:37.34\00:24:41.54 I keep talking about that meal. 00:24:41.58\00:24:42.94 She is fantastic. 00:24:42.98\00:24:44.95 But then we sat down and worked on your papers. 00:24:44.98\00:24:47.12 Beautiful. 00:24:47.15\00:24:48.48 And they were ready to give us answers. 00:24:48.52\00:24:51.19 We were able to put in the answers. 00:24:51.22\00:24:53.66 Get everything put together. 00:24:53.69\00:24:55.26 And then you were ready for it to be sent off to the attorney. 00:24:55.29\00:24:58.03 Yes. And we appreciate that. 00:25:41.14\00:25:42.54 And that was so much in their mind 00:25:42.57\00:25:44.74 when we got there. 00:25:44.77\00:25:46.11 That, that knew exactly 00:25:46.14\00:25:47.48 what percentages they wanted to divide it up. 00:25:47.51\00:25:50.01 They knew 3ABN wanted to be 25 percent, 00:25:50.05\00:25:52.45 like she said, a child's portion. 00:25:52.48\00:25:53.85 You've got three children? Yes. 00:25:53.88\00:25:55.68 Three children. Yes. 00:25:55.72\00:25:57.05 So they divided it up, that way. 00:25:57.09\00:25:59.65 And that worked out really well for you. 00:25:59.69\00:26:01.36 It did. 00:26:01.39\00:26:02.72 And I think that sometimes, 00:26:02.76\00:26:05.23 we want those documents to come back immediately, 00:26:05.26\00:26:07.80 but we had a few little details we needed to work out. 00:26:07.83\00:26:11.30 But we walked right beside them 00:26:11.33\00:26:13.13 to get through all these details. 00:26:13.17\00:26:15.17 You've been beautiful. And get it all put together. 00:26:15.20\00:26:18.01 And it's worked out great. 00:26:18.04\00:26:19.37 And we have one more document, 00:26:19.41\00:26:20.74 we're gonna sign right here, today. 00:26:20.78\00:26:22.11 And you'll be all done. 00:26:22.14\00:26:24.11 You know, and something, 00:26:24.15\00:26:25.71 the name of the document, 00:26:25.75\00:26:28.62 Earlenne told me was a Self Administered Trust. 00:26:28.65\00:26:32.15 Don't you like that? 00:26:32.19\00:26:33.52 Self Administered, meaning I'm in control of me. 00:26:33.56\00:26:36.36 These are my finances, this is my estate, 00:26:36.39\00:26:39.56 this is my trust, I will administer it. 00:26:39.59\00:26:42.30 And I think that gives everybody 00:26:42.33\00:26:43.93 a sense of security, to know that. 00:26:43.97\00:26:46.63 Barry, I know that you have worked 00:26:46.67\00:26:49.94 with many thousands of people, probably, 00:26:49.97\00:26:53.94 and I know, today, we're kind of gearing this program 00:26:53.98\00:26:57.28 towards women, 00:26:57.31\00:26:59.05 because I think, women need to be made aware 00:26:59.08\00:27:03.49 that they need to get themselves to a position 00:27:03.52\00:27:06.45 to take care of themselves. 00:27:06.49\00:27:07.92 And I know that, 00:27:07.96\00:27:10.63 if through the years, 00:27:10.66\00:27:12.79 all the ladies that you've worked with, 00:27:12.83\00:27:15.26 what are just some counsel, 00:27:15.30\00:27:17.97 what are some counsel that you would give 00:27:18.00\00:27:20.17 may be to a woman that has just lost her husband? 00:27:20.20\00:27:24.51 Well, first of all, 00:27:24.54\00:27:26.61 before she lost her husband, 00:27:26.64\00:27:28.31 we really hope that she really understands fully 00:27:28.34\00:27:31.48 how her trust works. 00:27:31.51\00:27:33.78 If they just have only a will, that means that, 00:27:33.82\00:27:36.48 if there is gonna be a distribution, 00:27:36.52\00:27:38.22 it has to go through a probate court 00:27:38.25\00:27:40.89 to be settled, make the transfers. 00:27:40.92\00:27:44.99 But if, as the Mannings had, they have a pool living Trust, 00:27:45.03\00:27:48.63 of which you said, there is self administrator, 00:27:48.66\00:27:50.23 which means they are their own trustee, 00:27:50.27\00:27:52.50 and at the death of the first of them, 00:27:52.53\00:27:55.14 there should not be any probate process. 00:27:55.17\00:27:57.14 At the death of the last of them, 00:27:57.17\00:27:58.64 there should not be any probate process. 00:27:58.67\00:28:00.21 And the money would be divided, in this case, you know, 00:28:00.24\00:28:02.71 25 percent to each of the three children 00:28:02.74\00:28:06.28 and the 3ABN, without having to through the court process. 00:28:06.31\00:28:09.72 And that-- when you lose the spouse, 00:28:09.75\00:28:12.05 the last thing you want to do is consult a lawyer, 00:28:12.09\00:28:14.32 and have to go through the probate process. 00:28:14.36\00:28:15.89 Right. 00:28:15.92\00:28:17.26 And with the Revocable Trust, you're free of that. 00:28:17.29\00:28:19.69 And hopefully, all along the, 00:28:19.73\00:28:22.56 both husband and wife would participate fully 00:28:22.60\00:28:25.37 in their own investments, 00:28:25.40\00:28:26.74 they would know what they've got, 00:28:26.77\00:28:28.10 they would know what-- 00:28:28.14\00:28:29.47 How they're insured, 00:28:29.50\00:28:30.84 and they would understand how these things work. 00:28:30.87\00:28:32.74 And if they don't then they need to go find, 00:28:32.77\00:28:35.91 either a lawyer or a financial expert, 00:28:35.94\00:28:38.31 may be both 00:28:38.35\00:28:39.75 where that they feel very comfortable with, 00:28:39.78\00:28:41.82 who explains things in a way that they can understand 00:28:41.85\00:28:44.99 and they fully respects them as person. 00:28:45.02\00:28:47.42 So getting that legal counsel, 00:28:49.16\00:28:53.63 this is what I want to, around on more than anything. 00:28:53.66\00:28:56.93 Looking at the statistics 00:28:56.97\00:29:01.10 that so many women 00:29:01.14\00:29:02.94 are just relying on friends or family 00:29:02.97\00:29:06.27 for their counsel, 00:29:06.31\00:29:08.01 not good legal counsel or trained professionals 00:29:08.04\00:29:13.21 like we have here, and Roy, and Earlenne, and Nancy, 00:29:13.25\00:29:16.79 and 3ABN's Trust Services department, 00:29:16.82\00:29:19.42 and you, Barry, that we can always call and lean in to 00:29:19.45\00:29:23.43 and ask for your counsel. 00:29:23.46\00:29:25.63 You need to always make sure 00:29:25.66\00:29:27.10 you get professional advice, professional counsel, 00:29:27.13\00:29:30.70 and not just what someone might want to tell you. 00:29:30.73\00:29:34.17 And really, specifically, 00:29:34.20\00:29:35.54 you want someone that does this kind of work. 00:29:35.57\00:29:37.64 And not all lawyers are created equally. 00:29:37.67\00:29:39.47 Right. 00:29:39.51\00:29:40.84 And you want somebody 00:29:40.88\00:29:42.21 that does exclusively lots of wills, 00:29:42.24\00:29:45.85 and trust, and estates, 00:29:45.88\00:29:47.52 and real estate transactions, 00:29:47.55\00:29:48.88 so that they understand 00:29:48.92\00:29:50.25 how the mechanics of it really work. 00:29:50.29\00:29:52.15 And I can tell you, I've practiced law a long time 00:29:52.19\00:29:54.46 before I've received my Masters Degree 00:29:54.49\00:29:56.93 where I really studied for a year, 00:29:56.96\00:29:59.09 this-- the tax ramifications 00:29:59.13\00:30:02.00 and how these things actually work. 00:30:02.03\00:30:04.67 You know, I want to talk about 00:30:04.70\00:30:06.03 some of the instruments, Earlenne. 00:30:06.07\00:30:07.64 Okay. 00:30:07.67\00:30:09.00 We are talking about, what was the, 00:30:09.04\00:30:10.57 what was the correct document for you 00:30:10.61\00:30:13.04 was the Self Administered Trust. 00:30:13.07\00:30:14.54 Yes. 00:30:14.58\00:30:15.91 But that's not always, may be the best document for someone, 00:30:15.94\00:30:18.98 or it might not be the document that they want to write. 00:30:19.01\00:30:21.68 I wanted us to look at a charitable gift annuity. 00:30:21.72\00:30:25.19 Would you like to address that? 00:30:25.22\00:30:26.55 Oh, sure. I'll be happy to do that. 00:30:26.59\00:30:28.82 The charitable gift annuity 00:30:28.86\00:30:30.43 is something that you can get into 00:30:30.46\00:30:33.90 if you're more than 60 to 65 years old. 00:30:33.93\00:30:37.03 We say about 65 because right now, 00:30:37.07\00:30:39.20 our interest in the cash trust 00:30:39.23\00:30:40.90 is paying almost equal to that. 00:30:40.94\00:30:42.80 And it's still revocable, 00:30:42.84\00:30:44.94 but 65 is a very good age. 00:30:44.97\00:30:47.51 It is an irrevocable document. 00:30:47.54\00:30:51.15 That means that once you've made that contribution 00:30:51.18\00:30:54.12 and setup your account, 00:30:54.15\00:30:55.88 and you're getting your interest back, 00:30:55.92\00:30:58.12 you aren't able to take that back. 00:30:58.15\00:31:00.72 It's there for life. It's irrevocable. 00:31:00.76\00:31:02.62 It's irrevocable. But don't you get a bit of-- 00:31:02.66\00:31:03.99 However, you get an interest paid for it, 00:31:04.03\00:31:06.19 for the rest of your life. 00:31:06.23\00:31:07.56 That's what I was asking for. Yeah. 00:31:07.60\00:31:08.93 And it's a big higher 00:31:08.96\00:31:10.30 than if it was revocable, I believe. 00:31:10.33\00:31:11.67 Right. 00:31:11.70\00:31:13.03 And that's why that 65 year old 00:31:13.07\00:31:14.40 is the one whose gonna start benefiting. 00:31:14.44\00:31:16.34 If you are 90, in your 90s, 00:31:16.37\00:31:18.27 you're gonna be up in the 9 percent. 00:31:18.31\00:31:20.18 Where can you get 9 percent, Mollie? 00:31:20.21\00:31:22.34 I know, I recall a lady, 00:31:22.38\00:31:24.81 and she had $80,000 in the bank. 00:31:24.85\00:31:29.38 Just in the bank. 00:31:29.42\00:31:31.22 And it was not drawing, 00:31:31.25\00:31:32.69 I mean, whatever the interest rate was, 00:31:32.72\00:31:35.29 may be a half percent, 00:31:35.32\00:31:36.69 and that not even be on the high side 00:31:36.73\00:31:38.96 and she was 80 years old. 00:31:38.99\00:31:40.83 And I believe, at that time, her interest are was 8 percent. 00:31:40.86\00:31:44.53 If she put it in an annuity with 3ABN, 00:31:44.57\00:31:48.97 Do you know what 8 percent of $80,000 is? 00:31:49.00\00:31:52.84 I'm not a genius but I know that's $6400. 00:31:52.87\00:31:56.44 And she was withdrawing may be a half of percent. 00:31:56.48\00:31:59.55 Do you know what half of percent is? 00:31:59.58\00:32:01.22 I know, that is $ 400. 00:32:01.25\00:32:02.92 Do you how much-- 00:32:02.95\00:32:04.35 And $1600 as opposed to, 00:32:04.39\00:32:07.36 I mean $16,000 as opposed to $400. 00:32:07.39\00:32:12.16 That is amazing. 00:32:12.19\00:32:13.63 It's a big difference. Big difference. 00:32:13.66\00:32:15.40 In fact, we visited somebody here, recently. 00:32:15.43\00:32:18.40 And she had three different accounts. 00:32:18.43\00:32:21.44 And she said, "I really don't have much. 00:32:21.47\00:32:23.47 I don't have enough to really do it, 00:32:23.51\00:32:25.94 a charitable gift annuity." 00:32:25.97\00:32:27.91 So we started looking at what she had. 00:32:27.94\00:32:30.28 And the percentages 00:32:30.31\00:32:31.65 that she was getting on all three of them, 00:32:31.68\00:32:33.11 when we put it all together, 00:32:33.15\00:32:34.58 she had almost a hundred thousand dollars. 00:32:34.62\00:32:37.29 And with that, at her age, in her 90s, 00:32:37.32\00:32:41.29 you realize what we did to change her income that day. 00:32:41.32\00:32:44.19 Plus she was thrilled to know that when she passed away, 00:32:44.23\00:32:47.56 3ABN was going to benefit those funds. 00:32:47.60\00:32:50.90 And we're to, again, I'll use this, 00:32:50.93\00:32:53.64 we're to be good stewards of the finances 00:32:53.67\00:32:57.24 God entrusts to us... 00:32:57.27\00:32:58.61 There is one of the benefits 00:32:58.64\00:32:59.97 that comes from the gift annuity, 00:33:00.01\00:33:02.14 the majority of the payment that goes to the individual 00:33:02.18\00:33:05.38 is tax free. 00:33:05.41\00:33:06.75 Right. Good point. 00:33:06.78\00:33:08.12 Generally more than two thirds is tax free 00:33:08.15\00:33:10.72 and in your-- 00:33:10.75\00:33:12.15 do you have a CD or savings account 00:33:12.19\00:33:14.62 that's ordinary income rates which are, 00:33:14.66\00:33:16.42 they are at the highest rate for that person. 00:33:16.46\00:33:18.36 And the year that they make that donation 00:33:18.39\00:33:21.40 that is a tax deduction to them for that year. 00:33:21.43\00:33:25.10 So whatever that cash is that they put in 00:33:25.13\00:33:27.87 they are gonna get a tax break on that the first year. 00:33:27.90\00:33:31.07 And some of our-- 00:33:31.11\00:33:32.77 ones that are little bit younger 00:33:32.81\00:33:34.31 and we've got older ones 00:33:34.34\00:33:35.68 that aren't paying taxes anymore 00:33:35.71\00:33:37.05 because they are not making that large of an income. 00:33:37.08\00:33:38.85 But for the younger ones 00:33:38.88\00:33:40.22 they think that is wonderful way 00:33:40.25\00:33:41.85 to get a tax break and get a little bit ahead. 00:33:41.88\00:33:43.79 So that's another good point. 00:33:43.82\00:33:45.72 Okay, so this a charitable gift annuity, 00:33:45.75\00:33:49.39 now I want to give you a scripture 00:33:49.42\00:33:52.03 it's Deuteronomy 8:18 00:33:52.06\00:33:54.40 because I keep telling you, 00:33:54.43\00:33:55.76 we need to be good stewards of the finances 00:33:55.80\00:33:58.13 that God entrusts with, 00:33:58.17\00:33:59.50 the blessings that God entrust us with, 00:33:59.53\00:34:02.17 we need to be good stewards of those blessings. 00:34:02.20\00:34:04.64 Deuteronomy 8:18, 00:34:04.67\00:34:06.51 "But thou shalt remember the Lord thy God: 00:34:06.54\00:34:09.44 for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, 00:34:09.48\00:34:13.28 that he may establish his covenant." 00:34:13.31\00:34:15.55 Why does He give us power to get wealth? 00:34:15.58\00:34:17.79 That He may establish his covenant, 00:34:17.82\00:34:20.46 "Which he sware unto thy fathers, 00:34:20.49\00:34:22.49 as it is this day." 00:34:22.52\00:34:24.93 So that is the reason that God gives us 00:34:24.96\00:34:27.66 the ability to obtain wealth, 00:34:27.70\00:34:29.76 it's to establish the kingdom of God. 00:34:29.80\00:34:31.70 Oh, come, Lord Jesus, that's why we are here, 00:34:31.73\00:34:34.40 that's what we're here to do. 00:34:34.44\00:34:35.77 And now there are other documents 00:34:35.80\00:34:37.27 move to just stop at the charitable gift annuity. 00:34:37.31\00:34:40.78 But, Barry, let me ask you about this one. 00:34:40.81\00:34:43.85 Tell me about a revocable cash trust? 00:34:43.88\00:34:47.78 Well, the revocable cash trust is a, we call it an RLT. 00:34:47.82\00:34:52.12 Okay. 00:34:52.15\00:34:53.49 We know what a BLT is but this is RLT. 00:34:53.52\00:34:55.69 Be sure we get that right, RLT. 00:34:55.72\00:34:57.76 Yeah, it's the-- 00:34:57.79\00:34:59.36 And Earlenne can really expand on that, 00:34:59.39\00:35:01.26 I don't know what your rates are now, 00:35:01.30\00:35:02.90 but it's the-- 00:35:02.93\00:35:04.80 actually, it's your trust is in-- 00:35:04.83\00:35:07.37 I mean your cash is in a trust, 00:35:07.40\00:35:09.27 of which there can be a direct benefit to the person 00:35:09.30\00:35:12.01 and Earlenne can expand on that. 00:35:12.04\00:35:13.38 Right, and that is a fluctuating rate. 00:35:13.41\00:35:15.04 So unlike the charitable gift annuity, 00:35:15.08\00:35:17.38 which has a fixed amount 00:35:17.41\00:35:18.81 and you know exactly what's gonna come in every month, 00:35:18.85\00:35:21.58 with the revocable cash trust agreements that we write, 00:35:21.62\00:35:26.25 that money hasn't been donated yet, 00:35:26.29\00:35:28.46 you still personally own that money. 00:35:28.49\00:35:31.03 It's here, it's invested, 00:35:31.06\00:35:33.40 you're going to get an interest check, 00:35:33.43\00:35:35.10 just like you do with the other one, 00:35:35.13\00:35:36.56 but it's a fluctuating. 00:35:36.60\00:35:38.13 And right now we're still averaging 00:35:38.17\00:35:40.04 between 4.2, 4.4 to 5.0. 00:35:40.07\00:35:44.24 And last year, we went over that. 00:35:44.27\00:35:46.61 because in December we had 9 percent plus in December. 00:35:46.64\00:35:52.01 So you might have it fluctuating, 00:35:52.05\00:35:53.78 where you have 1.2 percent in January, 3.2, 00:35:53.82\00:35:58.79 then you might get a 4.1, 00:35:58.82\00:36:01.36 and the next one might be a 1.2 or 3. 00:36:01.39\00:36:04.09 But what it is, 00:36:04.13\00:36:05.46 you take and add up all twelve of those, 00:36:05.49\00:36:08.66 divide it by 12, 00:36:08.70\00:36:10.03 and that's what your annual percentage rate is. 00:36:10.07\00:36:12.63 So annual percentage rate 00:36:12.67\00:36:14.07 here at 3ABN right now is 4.2 to 5.0, 00:36:14.10\00:36:19.44 but last year, we went over it. 00:36:19.47\00:36:21.88 And you can add to that money at any time too. 00:36:21.91\00:36:24.78 Mollie, that's such a blessing. 00:36:24.81\00:36:26.58 Because people have inherited money 00:36:26.61\00:36:29.08 and actually gone ahead and put that money 00:36:29.12\00:36:31.49 into a cash trust here, 00:36:31.52\00:36:35.49 or they got it and added it to a cash trust here. 00:36:35.52\00:36:39.06 So their principal went up, 00:36:39.09\00:36:40.43 when your principle goes up, 00:36:40.46\00:36:42.03 then of course your interest check grows, 00:36:42.06\00:36:43.87 just because the principal is up. 00:36:43.90\00:36:46.07 And then if your interest rate, shoots up 00:36:46.10\00:36:47.70 like it did last year at the end of the year, 00:36:47.74\00:36:49.84 we had phone call, 00:36:49.87\00:36:51.21 Mollie, people were saying, 00:36:51.24\00:36:52.57 "I think you made a mistake in the counting, 00:36:52.61\00:36:55.91 because we've gotten much more money, 00:36:55.94\00:36:58.38 twice as much as we've gotten all year 00:36:58.41\00:37:00.42 on any of the high months." 00:37:00.45\00:37:01.92 So it can happen. God's blessing. 00:37:01.95\00:37:04.52 Yeah, and now that's the revocable cash trust. 00:37:04.55\00:37:07.16 And one of the beauties of the cash trust is, 00:37:07.19\00:37:09.69 you can put it in and take it out as you need it. 00:37:09.72\00:37:12.19 Of course, once you take it out 00:37:12.23\00:37:13.63 the interest rate does stop on that. 00:37:13.66\00:37:17.07 But, whereas if you put in an annuity, 00:37:17.10\00:37:21.30 the charitable gift annuity, 00:37:21.34\00:37:23.00 the interest rate is a bit higher and so-- 00:37:23.04\00:37:26.84 But you can't take the money out. 00:37:26.88\00:37:28.21 But you can't take the money out, but you-- 00:37:28.24\00:37:29.58 And we've already had an incident this year, 00:37:29.61\00:37:31.61 with the storms going across our country. 00:37:31.65\00:37:34.12 Somebody's roof. 00:37:34.15\00:37:35.78 And I've mentioned this many times, 00:37:35.82\00:37:37.69 but it does happen. 00:37:37.72\00:37:39.05 And these storms that happen, the roof came off. 00:37:39.09\00:37:41.86 Insurance paid a certain percentage, 00:37:41.89\00:37:43.73 they called us and they borrowed off of it, 00:37:43.76\00:37:45.99 and they've already put the money back in. 00:37:46.03\00:37:47.63 Okay, so they got it put-- 00:37:47.66\00:37:49.33 The house is put back together 00:37:49.36\00:37:50.70 and their account is put back together. 00:37:50.73\00:37:52.83 So... 00:37:52.87\00:37:54.20 You know, and I want to talk about 00:37:54.24\00:37:56.81 charitable remainder unit trust. 00:37:56.84\00:37:58.41 Barry, I want you to talk about that, 00:37:58.44\00:38:00.28 but something that I saw with the Mannings, 00:38:00.31\00:38:03.98 it's a self-administered trust, 00:38:04.01\00:38:06.38 but I believe they also did a will. 00:38:06.41\00:38:08.25 It's not that wills are bad things, 00:38:08.28\00:38:10.02 but didn't you do a will as well. 00:38:10.05\00:38:11.39 Yes, we did. 00:38:11.42\00:38:13.25 It is written in conjunction with it. 00:38:13.29\00:38:15.29 Yes. So kind of explain that. 00:38:15.32\00:38:17.96 The will, how that would work? The will? 00:38:19.59\00:38:22.50 Barry, tell how that-- it works with it? 00:38:22.53\00:38:25.93 In case, you haven't-- 00:38:25.97\00:38:27.34 If the Mannings left out some investments, 00:38:27.37\00:38:30.94 they just forgot about them and they died, 00:38:30.97\00:38:34.54 then they would have go through the probate process, 00:38:34.58\00:38:36.95 and that will backs up the fact 00:38:36.98\00:38:40.12 that if they fail to put something in the trust. 00:38:40.15\00:38:42.88 We hope we don't have to use it, 00:38:42.92\00:38:44.32 'cause we want to go seamlessly 00:38:44.35\00:38:46.02 to wherever they want to go, 00:38:46.05\00:38:47.39 but if they have forgotten something, 00:38:47.42\00:38:49.29 the will is a back up. 00:38:49.32\00:38:51.13 And another thing that people have asked is, 00:38:51.16\00:38:53.29 if one of my children was to precede me in death, 00:38:53.33\00:38:57.20 then what? 00:38:57.23\00:38:58.80 You can do an amendment to your documents 00:38:58.83\00:39:01.74 with these trusts, 00:39:01.77\00:39:03.64 and you can name another beneficiary if need be. 00:39:03.67\00:39:07.11 And more often than not we ask for 00:39:07.14\00:39:09.54 the person that's gonna be the beneficiary, 00:39:09.58\00:39:11.81 and an alternate or back up, 00:39:11.85\00:39:14.12 should that type of thing happen. 00:39:14.15\00:39:15.95 We try to cover everything 00:39:15.98\00:39:17.49 so that you're at peace with it. 00:39:17.52\00:39:19.52 And I know, the Mannings have said, 00:39:19.55\00:39:21.59 we're very much at peace 00:39:21.62\00:39:22.96 since we've decided to do a document 00:39:22.99\00:39:25.56 and know everything's together. 00:39:25.59\00:39:27.10 You followed us all the way. 00:39:27.13\00:39:29.13 Something that, Pat, you told me earlier. 00:39:29.16\00:39:32.90 You said that it is as though 00:39:32.93\00:39:36.84 when people start thinking about 00:39:36.87\00:39:38.84 doing these documents, is they're thinking, 00:39:38.87\00:39:41.51 "Oh, if we do these documents 00:39:41.54\00:39:43.24 that means we're going to pass, 00:39:43.28\00:39:46.65 we're going to die." 00:39:46.68\00:39:48.45 And the truth is, we are, 00:39:48.48\00:39:50.59 whether we do the documents or not, 00:39:50.62\00:39:52.65 but a greater truth is that peace you were talking about 00:39:52.69\00:39:57.03 is that I've heard so many people, Barry, 00:39:57.06\00:40:00.46 tell me that once they got their state taken care of, 00:40:00.50\00:40:04.77 they got all the documents in place, 00:40:04.80\00:40:07.07 they knew their children were taken care of, 00:40:07.10\00:40:09.70 their church was taken care of, 00:40:09.74\00:40:11.77 3ABN was taken care of, every-- 00:40:11.81\00:40:14.51 that it gave them so much peace. 00:40:14.54\00:40:16.64 The pressure was off of them. 00:40:16.68\00:40:18.48 And the truth is, 00:40:18.51\00:40:19.85 what happens when you have the peace 00:40:19.88\00:40:22.18 You'll live longer. 00:40:22.22\00:40:23.65 So get these documents in place and-- 00:40:23.69\00:40:27.82 And for those charitable gift annuities, let me toss this in. 00:40:27.86\00:40:30.99 On a charitable gift annuity, you know, 00:40:31.03\00:40:33.96 we went to school to learn about these things 00:40:34.00\00:40:36.30 and how they work. 00:40:36.33\00:40:37.67 And there is a place called Loma Linda, California, 00:40:37.70\00:40:40.30 a blue zone, 00:40:40.34\00:40:41.90 and you know those people seven years longer, 00:40:41.94\00:40:44.17 on the average, than the rest of the world. 00:40:44.21\00:40:46.84 So if you're doing a document with us, 00:40:46.88\00:40:49.44 there's a chance you'll get seven more years out of it, 00:40:49.48\00:40:52.41 if you're living the healthy diet. 00:40:52.45\00:40:54.48 That's what statistics show, and I like statistics too. 00:40:54.52\00:40:57.69 I like statistics. Yes. 00:40:57.72\00:40:59.69 Barry, again, I wanted you to talk about 00:41:01.02\00:41:03.43 the charitable remainder unit trust, 00:41:03.46\00:41:06.29 but I know you have other things 00:41:06.33\00:41:08.06 that you wanted to share, 00:41:08.10\00:41:09.90 particularly, talking with ladies. 00:41:09.93\00:41:12.10 So if there's some things 00:41:12.13\00:41:13.47 you would like to share with them, 00:41:13.50\00:41:14.84 now would be a good time. 00:41:14.87\00:41:16.20 Okay. 00:41:16.24\00:41:17.57 And then talk about the unit trust. 00:41:17.61\00:41:18.94 Okay. 00:41:18.97\00:41:20.31 This may surprise you, but I hope 00:41:20.34\00:41:21.68 all you ladies are lifting weights every day. 00:41:21.71\00:41:24.15 I'm really for that, I work out every day. 00:41:24.18\00:41:25.95 I'm 78-years-old, almost 79, 00:41:25.98\00:41:28.52 and I work out, literally, 00:41:28.55\00:41:29.88 every day in my life, so does my wife. 00:41:29.92\00:41:32.49 As I already said, you need to stay in good condition, 00:41:32.52\00:41:35.56 old age in nicer like that. 00:41:35.59\00:41:37.29 But secondly, 00:41:37.33\00:41:38.66 you need to take care of that yourself in other ways too, 00:41:38.69\00:41:41.00 and that is that we need to have full partnerships 00:41:41.03\00:41:45.33 between our wives and our husbands. 00:41:45.37\00:41:48.60 And part of that full partnership 00:41:48.64\00:41:52.64 is for the each party to understand 00:41:52.67\00:41:56.08 and respect the other person 00:41:56.11\00:41:58.41 so that everybody knows how to manage a check book, 00:41:58.45\00:42:03.25 everybody knows where their assets are, 00:42:03.28\00:42:06.09 what they're earning, 00:42:06.12\00:42:07.56 and what's the long-term plan is. 00:42:07.59\00:42:10.53 So I urge you to, first of all, 00:42:10.56\00:42:12.43 be comfortable with your financial advisor, 00:42:12.46\00:42:15.56 your lawyer, your CPA, 00:42:15.60\00:42:17.17 whoever your professionals are that you work with. 00:42:17.20\00:42:19.27 But you need to know them on a first name basis, 00:42:19.30\00:42:21.50 and you should feel comfortable with them. 00:42:21.54\00:42:23.44 Not just that the husband feels comfortable with them, 00:42:23.47\00:42:25.41 but the wife should feel a full partner in discussing, 00:42:25.44\00:42:28.58 and she should feel free to ask any questions 00:42:28.61\00:42:32.38 that is a concern to her. 00:42:32.41\00:42:35.08 Because when you die or you lose your husband, 00:42:35.12\00:42:38.89 and more often that not, you guys, 00:42:38.92\00:42:41.49 as your statistics show, you out live us, 00:42:41.52\00:42:44.19 then the wife's gonna be in charge of the money. 00:42:44.23\00:42:47.26 And with revocable trust, actually, 00:42:47.30\00:42:49.30 she can do what she wants to with it, 00:42:49.33\00:42:51.57 and it's her decision. 00:42:51.60\00:42:53.44 So I urge you to know what you've got, 00:42:53.47\00:42:55.90 and what the consequences are going to be 00:42:55.94\00:42:57.81 when in fact you do lose your husband. 00:42:57.84\00:43:00.94 Now the charitable and the unit trust, 00:43:00.98\00:43:03.88 Actually Sandy and I have a unit trust. 00:43:03.91\00:43:05.55 And it's particularly designed for people 00:43:05.58\00:43:08.38 who have greatly appreciated value. 00:43:08.42\00:43:11.92 They've had a farm that's been in the family for 40 years, 00:43:11.95\00:43:14.62 they get that farm 00:43:14.66\00:43:15.99 and then if they're gonna sell it at some point, 00:43:16.02\00:43:19.26 there is gonna be a large capital gain. 00:43:19.29\00:43:21.46 Well, the unit trust is designed 00:43:21.50\00:43:24.00 so that, there are four things 00:43:24.03\00:43:25.37 that happen with the unit trust. 00:43:25.40\00:43:26.74 Number one, you get life time income, 00:43:26.77\00:43:30.71 or 20 years your choice. 00:43:30.74\00:43:32.77 Number two, you don't have to pay the capital gain. 00:43:32.81\00:43:36.14 It's the third. 00:43:36.18\00:43:37.51 Number three, 00:43:37.55\00:43:39.21 you get a large tax deduction on the front end, 00:43:39.25\00:43:41.68 which you can use up to six years or it's used up. 00:43:41.72\00:43:44.75 And number four, you've really shown to 3ABN, 00:43:44.79\00:43:48.36 your respect for 3ABN, 00:43:48.39\00:43:52.26 and so at the death of the last of you, 00:43:52.29\00:43:54.66 that money would go straight to 3ABN. 00:43:54.70\00:43:58.23 It's a wonderful document. 00:43:58.27\00:44:01.80 It's also designed so that, if the money that are invested, 00:44:01.84\00:44:05.34 your money, since there is no capital gain, 00:44:05.37\00:44:08.61 putting the property into the unit trust 00:44:08.64\00:44:10.95 and there is no, even the unit trust is. 00:44:10.98\00:44:13.18 so that there is still no capital gain, 00:44:13.21\00:44:14.55 there is no taxes, it is tax free save, 00:44:14.58\00:44:16.45 so all of your money is invested. 00:44:16.48\00:44:18.52 And that payment to you, 00:44:18.55\00:44:20.32 its payable monthly or quarterly or some annually, 00:44:20.36\00:44:22.82 however it is paid, can grow, 00:44:22.86\00:44:24.69 if the underlying asset grows. 00:44:24.73\00:44:26.80 Okay. 00:44:26.83\00:44:28.16 So we have, very quickly, 00:44:28.20\00:44:32.20 going over some documents, 00:44:32.23\00:44:35.40 and the charitable gift annuity, 00:44:35.44\00:44:38.27 the revocable cash trust, 00:44:38.31\00:44:40.84 the seven ministry trust with a vail, 00:44:40.88\00:44:43.48 and the
