I want to spend my life 00:00:01.83\00:00:07.50 Mending broken people 00:00:07.54\00:00:12.67 I want to spend my life 00:00:12.71\00:00:18.88 Removing pain 00:00:18.91\00:00:23.89 Lord, let my words 00:00:23.92\00:00:30.19 Heal a heart that hurts 00:00:30.23\00:00:34.76 I want to spend my life 00:00:34.80\00:00:40.47 Mending broken people 00:00:40.50\00:00:45.97 I want to spend my life 00:00:46.01\00:00:51.45 Mending broken people 00:00:51.48\00:00:57.19 Well, hello, and good day and we're so happy that 00:01:07.03\00:01:10.13 you could spend a good portion of this day 00:01:10.17\00:01:13.60 that the Lord has given to us together with us 00:01:13.64\00:01:17.94 and with our guest today. 00:01:17.97\00:01:19.44 We have a very interesting couple. 00:01:19.47\00:01:22.58 Their life has just been full of exciting things for God. 00:01:22.61\00:01:27.78 Right out of college they went to the mission field 00:01:27.82\00:01:30.19 and we're gonna talk about that in a little bit 00:01:30.22\00:01:32.25 and some of the things 00:01:32.29\00:01:33.62 that have happened in their life since then. 00:01:33.66\00:01:36.89 But you know something, 00:01:36.93\00:01:38.49 we are so happy to bring you these stories of ministries` 00:01:38.53\00:01:43.53 that need your support, 00:01:43.57\00:01:45.57 and we couldn't bring it to you without your support. 00:01:45.60\00:01:49.87 So we want to thank you for your prayers, 00:01:49.90\00:01:52.41 for your financial support and for standing with 3ABN, 00:01:52.44\00:01:57.71 not only now but all these 30 plus years. 00:01:57.75\00:02:00.88 So we're just so thankful that God has placed that 00:02:00.92\00:02:04.55 upon your heart. 00:02:04.59\00:02:05.99 And if the Holy Spirit is inspiring you to do 00:02:06.02\00:02:08.29 something special for the ministry of 3ABN, 00:02:08.32\00:02:12.36 this would be an excellent time to do it. 00:02:12.39\00:02:17.07 And remember it's those that our faithful and giving-- 00:02:17.10\00:02:21.14 I had someone ask me recently, does $10 a month help? 00:02:21.17\00:02:25.54 Oh, my yes, it helps so much. 00:02:25.57\00:02:28.64 I know two sisters who send $5 faithfully 00:02:28.68\00:02:32.71 each every month and it helps this ministry. 00:02:32.75\00:02:37.75 Those that are financially able to do more, 00:02:37.79\00:02:41.42 of course they are blessed as well. 00:02:41.46\00:02:44.89 But it's all of us pulling together 00:02:44.93\00:02:48.36 that helped to keep 3ABN on the air. 00:02:48.40\00:02:52.43 Well, listen, I want to read a text to you. 00:02:52.47\00:02:55.20 It's a text that is so meaningful 00:02:55.24\00:02:58.14 because the last words of Jesus 00:02:58.17\00:03:00.88 while He was here on this earth-- 00:03:00.91\00:03:03.48 You remember the gospel commission was very much 00:03:03.51\00:03:06.58 in the forefront of what Jesus' mission was. 00:03:06.61\00:03:11.79 He would talk about this that we should take 00:03:11.82\00:03:14.62 the gospel to all the world. 00:03:14.66\00:03:17.36 And then the last thing that He said 00:03:17.39\00:03:20.10 in Acts the 1st chapter and let's go back to verse 7. 00:03:20.13\00:03:25.63 "And he said to them, 'It is not for you to know 00:03:25.67\00:03:28.30 times or seasons where is the Father 00:03:28.34\00:03:31.04 that has put his own authority.'" 00:03:31.07\00:03:33.14 Now that's amazing that so many people say, 00:03:33.17\00:03:36.24 oh, I know the time and I know the season, 00:03:36.28\00:03:38.78 God says, it weren't our place to know that. 00:03:38.81\00:03:42.22 Jesus emphasized that it's God only. 00:03:42.25\00:03:45.75 He's the one to know the times and the seasons. 00:03:45.79\00:03:49.72 But he says, verse 8. 00:03:49.76\00:03:52.56 "You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit 00:03:52.59\00:03:56.30 has come upon you, 00:03:56.33\00:03:58.17 and you shall be witnesses to me in Jerusalem, 00:03:58.20\00:04:01.27 and in all Judaea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth." 00:04:01.30\00:04:09.08 Wow, what a challenge to the end of the earth. 00:04:09.11\00:04:13.82 And our guests today have spent a great deal of time 00:04:13.85\00:04:18.19 in the end of the earth or at the end of the earth. 00:04:18.22\00:04:21.79 And I just want to introduce you to the Griswolds 00:04:21.82\00:04:26.43 and they are wonderful folks 00:04:26.46\00:04:28.70 who have been able to visit here 00:04:28.73\00:04:30.07 for just a few moments 00:04:30.10\00:04:32.03 and beginning of our time together. 00:04:32.07\00:04:36.07 And, Scott and Julie, we welcome you. 00:04:36.10\00:04:39.31 We're so happy that you could be with us. 00:04:39.34\00:04:41.88 And we're gonna have an exciting next hour together, 00:04:41.91\00:04:46.92 about 42 more minutes. 00:04:46.95\00:04:48.85 But we're gonna have an exciting time 00:04:48.88\00:04:51.05 talking about the Lord and talking about 00:04:51.09\00:04:55.22 how the Lord is reaching out to special people groups 00:04:55.26\00:04:59.43 and that's what we'll be discussing. 00:04:59.46\00:05:00.80 But before we do, I want us to enjoy some special music. 00:05:00.83\00:05:07.44 Our good friend Jaime Jorge was by not long ago, 00:05:07.47\00:05:10.81 and he played for us this far land, 00:05:10.84\00:05:13.88 one of my favorite songs, 00:05:13.91\00:05:15.61 and the favorite song of millions of people. 00:05:15.64\00:05:19.15 "His Eye is on the Sparrow." 00:05:19.18\00:05:23.75 Well, "His Eye is on the Sparrow." 00:10:30.86\00:10:34.46 And I know He watches me. 00:10:34.50\00:10:37.03 You know He watch His people all over the world, 00:10:37.07\00:10:40.24 not just you and me. 00:10:40.27\00:10:42.17 He cares. 00:10:42.20\00:10:43.54 The Bible says, He knows the hairs of our head. 00:10:43.57\00:10:46.31 He knows when the sparrow falls. 00:10:46.34\00:10:49.38 And He knows when someone in Southeast Asia needs help. 00:10:49.41\00:10:54.72 And He knew that there was a young couple 00:10:54.75\00:10:59.25 in Walla Walla, Washington, 00:10:59.29\00:11:02.19 that would respond when God called. 00:11:02.22\00:11:05.83 And you were still in college, right? 00:11:05.86\00:11:07.86 We were. 00:11:07.90\00:11:09.23 We were just finishing up and considering the call 00:11:09.26\00:11:12.53 where we go to minister 00:11:12.57\00:11:14.07 and we got the invitation from Judy Akon 00:11:14.10\00:11:16.97 who started ASAP Ministries and she said we need 00:11:17.01\00:11:20.08 somebody in the refugee camps right now, will you go? 00:11:20.11\00:11:23.51 And we were startled. 00:11:23.55\00:11:24.88 And you were. 00:11:24.91\00:11:26.25 Now you had the background, 00:11:26.28\00:11:27.62 you have grown up in the Adventist Church, right? 00:11:27.65\00:11:29.72 Grew up on missionary stories. 00:11:29.75\00:11:31.25 Right. 00:11:31.29\00:11:32.62 And you grew up in the Northern California area? 00:11:32.65\00:11:35.42 Ukiah. 00:11:35.46\00:11:36.79 And you grew up Washington, did you? 00:11:36.83\00:11:38.93 Milton-Freewater which is right on the border 00:11:38.96\00:11:41.06 of college place in Washington. 00:11:41.10\00:11:43.80 All right. All right. 00:11:43.83\00:11:45.70 Now, I know people are gonna want to ask this, 00:11:45.73\00:11:48.30 but we'll answer it now. 00:11:48.34\00:11:50.94 So how many children do you have? 00:11:50.97\00:11:53.61 We have four. Okay. 00:11:53.64\00:11:55.58 One Cambodian son and three biological, 00:11:55.61\00:11:59.01 three boys and a girl. 00:11:59.05\00:12:00.55 Okay. Two boys and a girl? 00:12:00.58\00:12:02.15 Three boys and a girl. Three boys and a girl. 00:12:02.18\00:12:03.82 And all born over in Thailand. 00:12:03.85\00:12:05.82 Okay. All right. 00:12:05.85\00:12:08.09 And so now they come to Walla Walla, 00:12:08.12\00:12:12.73 American Frontier Missions I think, I mean, right. 00:12:12.76\00:12:17.47 Actually by then we were at seminary 00:12:17.50\00:12:20.54 and Judy Akon was working with Adventist Frontier Missions 00:12:20.57\00:12:23.91 and she said we need somebody 00:12:23.94\00:12:25.57 in the camps now to work with the refugees. 00:12:25.61\00:12:28.01 She had spent years over there in the camps as into Thailand. 00:12:28.04\00:12:32.88 People were coming from Cambodia with the war, 00:12:32.91\00:12:35.48 Vietnam with Laos, 00:12:35.52\00:12:37.65 and then all through these years 00:12:37.69\00:12:39.12 different refugees coming over from Burma, 00:12:39.15\00:12:41.99 the Korean refugees in particular. 00:12:42.02\00:12:44.13 So she was now back in the States helping to resell 00:12:44.16\00:12:47.86 some of those as they came into America 00:12:47.90\00:12:49.33 by the thousands helping the churches reach out to them 00:12:49.36\00:12:53.07 and try to get groups of them started right here in America. 00:12:53.10\00:12:55.77 Right. 00:12:55.80\00:12:57.14 So now you go to Southeast Asia. 00:12:57.17\00:12:59.51 Where did you live? 00:12:59.54\00:13:00.91 We lived in Cambodia. 00:13:00.94\00:13:02.41 Did you? 00:13:02.44\00:13:03.78 Well, we thought would be 2 years, turned into 6 years 00:13:03.81\00:13:05.88 as we began church planting there because the church, 00:13:05.91\00:13:08.78 after the war it just didn't exist. 00:13:08.82\00:13:10.75 There was no Seventh-day Adventist Church 00:13:10.79\00:13:12.75 at all there in 1992. 00:13:12.79\00:13:14.56 Right. 00:13:14.59\00:13:15.92 So then you lived in Cambodia for 6 years 00:13:15.96\00:13:18.36 and then where did you go? 00:13:18.39\00:13:19.89 Back to Northern California to pastor for 3 years 00:13:19.93\00:13:23.13 and then another surprise call to go back overseas 00:13:23.16\00:13:25.77 with the GC, with Global Mission 00:13:25.80\00:13:28.00 with the Buddhist Study Center. 00:13:28.04\00:13:29.50 All right. And how long were you there? 00:13:29.54\00:13:31.94 We again flatting for a short time 00:13:31.97\00:13:33.78 and ended up staying 10 years. 00:13:33.81\00:13:35.98 Ten years? 00:13:36.01\00:13:37.35 And that was in Thailand, right? 00:13:37.38\00:13:38.88 Yes. 00:13:38.91\00:13:40.25 And so tell me a little bit about the mission 00:13:40.28\00:13:44.29 and the work that you're involved with? 00:13:44.32\00:13:47.76 Well, again to our surprises 00:13:47.79\00:13:50.69 we came back to America primarily 00:13:50.73\00:13:52.83 because we wanted to be closer to our parents 00:13:52.86\00:13:54.73 who are getting on in years. 00:13:54.76\00:13:56.23 We want our children a chance 00:13:56.26\00:13:57.60 to go to Seventh-day Adventist academy and college. 00:13:57.63\00:14:01.10 But as we began doing that, we've been missionaries 00:14:01.14\00:14:03.30 for a long time and we're saying, 00:14:03.34\00:14:05.37 what are we gonna do in America? 00:14:05.41\00:14:06.74 Everybody's had a chance to hear the gospel, right. 00:14:06.78\00:14:10.08 And we begin to pray 00:14:10.11\00:14:11.58 and I was sitting at GYC program 00:14:11.61\00:14:13.95 looking around at the many ministries 00:14:13.98\00:14:16.12 and saying, I'm not hearing 00:14:16.15\00:14:17.92 as much as I want to hear about missions 00:14:17.95\00:14:21.06 and then it hit me, missions right here. 00:14:21.09\00:14:24.53 There are two new immigrants coming in 00:14:24.56\00:14:27.33 every minute to America. 00:14:27.36\00:14:29.86 That's about a million a year, 00:14:29.90\00:14:31.23 new people from around the world. 00:14:31.27\00:14:33.34 Some of those coming from countries 00:14:33.37\00:14:35.24 that you cannot share the gospel, 00:14:35.27\00:14:36.97 like 70,000 refugees a year from countries like Somalia, 00:14:37.01\00:14:41.58 Afghanistan, Iraq, Myanmar or Burma 00:14:41.61\00:14:45.35 and these are people 00:14:45.38\00:14:46.72 when they arrive life is so strange, 00:14:46.75\00:14:49.15 so different, so difficult, 00:14:49.18\00:14:51.05 even though they are so thankful to be here 00:14:51.09\00:14:53.29 coming from war torn countries, yet everything so new, 00:14:53.32\00:14:56.96 the snow, the ice, the school system, everything. 00:14:56.99\00:15:00.73 And it hit me as I came across the statement 00:15:00.76\00:15:04.37 in Evangelism page 570, that this was God's plan. 00:15:04.40\00:15:08.34 Just as back in Jesus' day after He went to heaven. 00:15:08.37\00:15:13.34 It says, there were devout men 00:15:13.38\00:15:15.31 of every nation dwelling in Jerusalem 00:15:15.34\00:15:18.55 and the Holy Spirit came down, 00:15:18.58\00:15:19.91 they heard in their own language 00:15:19.95\00:15:21.45 and they took it back to those countries. 00:15:21.48\00:15:23.79 Here's what it said here in Evangelism 570. 00:15:23.82\00:15:27.29 "We should be able to see 00:15:27.32\00:15:29.29 in the multiplying opportunities 00:15:29.32\00:15:30.96 to reach many foreigners in America 00:15:30.99\00:15:33.19 are divinely appointed means of rapidly extending 00:15:33.23\00:15:36.46 the Third Angels Message 00:15:36.50\00:15:38.03 into all the nations of the earth. 00:15:38.07\00:15:40.54 God in His province has brought me into our very doors 00:15:40.57\00:15:43.30 and trust them as it were, into our arms 00:15:43.34\00:15:46.11 that they might learn the truth and be qualify to do work 00:15:46.14\00:15:48.94 we could not do in getting the light 00:15:48.98\00:15:51.18 before men of other tongues." 00:15:51.21\00:15:53.05 So in another words, we used to send 00:15:53.08\00:15:55.48 missionaries out to the people, 00:15:55.52\00:15:57.39 now the people are coming to the missionaries. 00:15:57.42\00:15:59.22 In a huge way. It make a sense. 00:15:59.25\00:16:01.02 In a huge way. Yeah. 00:16:01.06\00:16:03.26 It's amazing. 00:16:03.29\00:16:05.23 And the number of immigrants that are coming in 00:16:05.26\00:16:08.96 particularly that have had political asylum are, 00:16:09.00\00:16:12.77 they are being prosecuted in their area. 00:16:12.80\00:16:15.47 Does this make them a little more open to the gospel? 00:16:15.50\00:16:19.97 Yeah. You think about-- 00:16:20.01\00:16:21.34 If you never had a chance to choose another religion 00:16:21.38\00:16:24.15 or even learn about it. 00:16:24.18\00:16:25.51 If you have been threatened 00:16:25.55\00:16:26.88 that you would be killed if you did 00:16:26.92\00:16:28.25 and now you're in a country of freedom 00:16:28.28\00:16:30.49 where there are churches around you, 00:16:30.52\00:16:32.65 gospel productions like we have here. 00:16:32.69\00:16:36.19 So, yes, they are wide open especially for, 00:16:36.22\00:16:38.89 my friend says, about five months. 00:16:38.93\00:16:41.10 Especially that first five months 00:16:41.13\00:16:43.30 when they can be greeted, received and loved. 00:16:43.33\00:16:46.60 That is the time to reach out, isn't it? 00:16:46.63\00:16:49.24 Very well. 00:16:49.27\00:16:50.61 So we're coming back and we're thinking 00:16:50.64\00:16:51.97 well, let's find a place to do this. 00:16:52.01\00:16:53.98 But there aren't bunch of jobs around for that 00:16:54.01\00:16:56.44 and so as we're talking with our friends 00:16:56.48\00:16:58.21 Judy Akon, Julio Carrey with ASAP Ministries 00:16:58.25\00:17:01.65 and just sharing our vision and dream with them 00:17:01.68\00:17:05.12 of helping to train up people in America to reach out, 00:17:05.15\00:17:07.92 when people don't know 00:17:07.96\00:17:09.29 what to say to a Muslim or Buddhist. 00:17:09.32\00:17:11.33 And they just looked at us and said, 00:17:11.36\00:17:13.29 we don't have the money for it, but God does, 00:17:13.33\00:17:15.90 we'll support you to put together a kit, 00:17:15.93\00:17:18.90 someway to help train people. 00:17:18.93\00:17:21.14 Maybe take 8 months and just work on this. 00:17:21.17\00:17:23.84 And so they stepped out in faith 00:17:23.87\00:17:25.34 and we began to work on that. 00:17:25.37\00:17:27.14 Now you worked as a fulltime pastor. 00:17:27.18\00:17:29.28 You've been as a denominational missionary 00:17:29.31\00:17:32.58 and now this is entirely different situation though. 00:17:32.61\00:17:36.95 You're in somewhat 00:17:36.99\00:17:38.45 of a self supporting missionary positioned. 00:17:38.49\00:17:42.42 And ASAP is standing with you, 00:17:42.46\00:17:46.19 but they need a lot of support to make it, right. 00:17:46.23\00:17:48.83 Yeah. 00:17:48.86\00:17:50.37 There's a lot of prayer, a lot of faith 00:17:50.40\00:17:53.13 that goes into the ministry. 00:17:53.17\00:17:55.10 And that just showed us, 00:17:55.14\00:17:56.60 that something we wanted to be a part of. 00:17:56.64\00:17:58.44 Oh, we've got all these immigrants coming, 00:17:58.47\00:18:00.21 how can we reach them? 00:18:00.24\00:18:03.45 How can we really minister to them? 00:18:03.48\00:18:06.38 Well, as we begin to pray that through, 00:18:06.41\00:18:09.55 we wanted to find out what people were doing 00:18:09.58\00:18:11.42 already in America and Judy and Julia 00:18:11.45\00:18:14.79 were already helping refugees in America, 00:18:14.82\00:18:17.03 helping churches reach out to them. 00:18:17.06\00:18:19.19 So that's how we begin to just pray about, 00:18:19.23\00:18:22.26 research, lookout together and we found that 00:18:22.30\00:18:26.87 what it takes is a friendly person. 00:18:26.90\00:18:28.77 Somebody who loves people and is willing to go beyond 00:18:28.80\00:18:32.24 and to reach out and care. 00:18:32.27\00:18:34.54 So they don't have to speak their language-- 00:18:34.58\00:18:36.28 No, no, they are trying to learn English anyway. 00:18:36.31\00:18:38.81 They want to learn, they wan to get acquainted 00:18:38.85\00:18:40.68 with the people here. 00:18:40.72\00:18:42.78 And so we put together, we put together a kit 00:18:42.82\00:18:46.02 and we ask those who are already doing it well. 00:18:46.05\00:18:49.79 They have a picture here of two young men, 00:18:49.82\00:18:53.53 Sam, Pastor Sam Nalla. 00:18:53.56\00:18:55.96 The picture right now shows just the call 00:18:56.00\00:18:58.83 and the invitation with the kit that we have 00:18:58.87\00:19:01.50 to begin, meeting together as a church, 00:19:01.54\00:19:03.47 pray for the people in your community, 00:19:03.51\00:19:05.44 get to know who they are and then begin reaching out. 00:19:05.47\00:19:09.38 The picture of these two men, Sam Nalla and Chungtu 00:19:09.41\00:19:13.18 are two men in Indianapolis who came as refugees 00:19:13.21\00:19:16.25 as immigrants to America and began to say, 00:19:16.28\00:19:19.65 hey, there's a bunch of us here already. 00:19:19.69\00:19:21.52 Some Seventh-day Adventist, 00:19:21.56\00:19:22.89 we have many from the refugee camps 00:19:22.92\00:19:24.26 who arrive here as Seventh-day Adventist, 00:19:24.29\00:19:26.73 even pastors and others but they're suddenly 00:19:26.76\00:19:29.16 working in chicken factories, different, different places 00:19:29.20\00:19:33.64 and they began to gather them together. 00:19:33.67\00:19:36.24 But it was a church in Southside Church, 00:19:36.27\00:19:38.71 Seventh-day Adventist Church there in Indianapolis 00:19:38.74\00:19:40.61 who said, let's open our doors to them. 00:19:40.64\00:19:42.91 Let's give them a Sabbath school 00:19:42.94\00:19:44.28 room to meeting and some started with just 20 00:19:44.31\00:19:46.72 and now they have grown to 120, 00:19:46.75\00:19:49.18 bursting the seams, really growing 00:19:49.22\00:19:51.42 because a church took the time 00:19:51.45\00:19:53.29 and the energy to open their hearts 00:19:53.32\00:19:55.59 and to reach out to them. 00:19:55.62\00:19:57.03 Wow. 00:19:57.06\00:19:58.39 Well, I know that you're seeing 00:19:58.43\00:20:00.10 some real positive results from this outreach. 00:20:00.13\00:20:04.87 Well, Julie, where do you fit in this? 00:20:04.90\00:20:09.97 Well, my heart, my heart is always been with children. 00:20:10.01\00:20:13.94 I love children and living in Southeast Asia 00:20:13.98\00:20:16.58 where there's a bunch of kids. 00:20:16.61\00:20:19.85 You can't live in Southeast Asia long 00:20:19.88\00:20:21.98 before you realize the danger of human trafficking. 00:20:22.02\00:20:26.76 And while we were living in Thailand 00:20:26.79\00:20:30.33 we met a lady named Pinpaw 00:20:30.36\00:20:32.73 and I want to just tell you 00:20:32.76\00:20:34.10 a little bit of a story about her. 00:20:34.13\00:20:37.23 She risks her life. 00:20:37.27\00:20:38.83 She's Thai and she risks her life 00:20:38.87\00:20:40.67 to help girls primarily but boys too that are trapped 00:20:40.70\00:20:45.81 and kidnapped into human trafficking. 00:20:45.84\00:20:48.21 And one day we got a phone call 00:20:48.24\00:20:50.85 and she said that I have 16-year-old girl, Laotian girl. 00:20:50.88\00:20:57.52 She's been in the hospital, 00:20:57.55\00:20:59.05 she had terrible fewer and infection 00:20:59.09\00:21:02.49 and she was sold into prostitution 00:21:02.52\00:21:05.56 and if we can come up with $250 00:21:05.59\00:21:08.66 before her owner, her pimp, 00:21:08.70\00:21:12.80 comes in the morning to pay the bill, 00:21:12.83\00:21:16.00 then we can send her on her way back to her home. 00:21:16.04\00:21:19.27 And so quickly we wired her the money 00:21:19.31\00:21:21.58 that she needed and the next morning 00:21:21.61\00:21:23.58 we saw Pinpaw 00:21:23.61\00:21:24.95 and this precious girl at our home. 00:21:24.98\00:21:28.45 And we didn't realize, but she had been-- 00:21:28.48\00:21:32.12 her mother was a Christian and she had been praying. 00:21:32.15\00:21:35.12 This man would come to her village, 00:21:35.16\00:21:37.03 they were very poor, he said you can help your family, 00:21:37.06\00:21:40.56 you can come I'll give you a good job in Thailand. 00:21:40.60\00:21:43.43 You can keep giving money back to your family 00:21:43.47\00:21:46.60 and as soon as she agreed the mother didn't have-- 00:21:46.63\00:21:50.77 she just felt uneasy about it. 00:21:50.81\00:21:53.04 So she had been praying that God would sees her daughter, 00:21:53.07\00:21:57.18 would be able to somehow bring her back home. 00:21:57.21\00:22:00.82 And I wasn't there to go across the border 00:22:00.85\00:22:02.85 and to Laos to see that reunion but I know that 00:22:02.88\00:22:06.69 that just it was precious to see the reunion of a mother 00:22:06.72\00:22:11.19 and a daughter back together 00:22:11.23\00:22:13.70 after being kidnapped into human trafficking. 00:22:13.73\00:22:16.97 Julie, what can you do to help these girls 00:22:17.00\00:22:21.40 particularly there are some boys, 00:22:21.44\00:22:23.10 but with this human trafficking problem? 00:22:23.14\00:22:26.37 What can you do? 00:22:26.41\00:22:28.44 Well, back in 2011, we had a donor come 00:22:28.48\00:22:31.88 on a mission trip with us and she came 00:22:31.91\00:22:34.45 and visited some of the ASAP's Feed and Read Schools 00:22:34.48\00:22:38.19 that we have for children there in Southeast Asia. 00:22:38.22\00:22:41.32 And she began hearing their stories, 00:22:41.36\00:22:43.32 their prayer requests and their interview 00:22:43.36\00:22:46.39 and she, she had been sexually abused as a child herself 00:22:46.43\00:22:50.40 and she recognized the risk that these kids were at. 00:22:50.43\00:22:55.07 And she approached ASAP and she said what, 00:22:55.10\00:22:57.77 if I support this project, 00:22:57.81\00:23:01.11 I would like to see a curriculum, 00:23:01.14\00:23:03.48 a Christ centered curriculum that would help the children 00:23:03.51\00:23:07.55 in our Feed and Read Schools that are so at risk 00:23:07.58\00:23:10.52 to learn, to teach them the assertiveness, 00:23:10.55\00:23:15.42 the techniques and the skills 00:23:15.46\00:23:17.26 that could reduce the risk of child abuse 00:23:17.29\00:23:21.43 and also the numbers of human trafficking. 00:23:21.46\00:23:23.80 Could you do it? 00:23:23.83\00:23:25.17 And we were thrilled because we have had that 00:23:25.20\00:23:27.30 burden on our heart for many years. 00:23:27.34\00:23:30.47 And so Julia O'Carey approached me 00:23:30.51\00:23:32.57 and prayerfully I took it up 00:23:32.61\00:23:34.68 and I knew it was too big for me. 00:23:34.71\00:23:36.75 And miracles, but I don't have time to tell you 00:23:36.78\00:23:40.12 but how God had put into my path 00:23:40.15\00:23:43.42 and on the advisory committee 00:23:43.45\00:23:46.12 professionals like Christa Crawford, 00:23:46.15\00:23:48.32 who has been 14 years 00:23:48.36\00:23:50.69 fighting against human trafficking in Thailand. 00:23:50.73\00:23:54.06 And ADRA in Cambodia 00:23:54.10\00:23:56.30 and also in Thailand to help us. 00:23:56.33\00:23:58.70 And once when I was talking with Christa Crawford she said 00:23:58.73\00:24:02.17 that incest is the training ground for prostitution. 00:24:02.20\00:24:08.48 And that 70% of those who go into prostitution 00:24:08.51\00:24:12.78 has been child molest, child abused as a child. 00:24:12.81\00:24:17.09 So we thought we need to create something 00:24:17.12\00:24:21.06 that is Asian based, not the western type 00:24:21.09\00:24:25.23 where you go into a school room and you talk at the kids 00:24:25.26\00:24:28.16 and you say, you scream, no and you run until your mom 00:24:28.20\00:24:31.83 if somebody tries to touch you in a place that they shouldn't. 00:24:31.87\00:24:35.50 Those things, those, that doesn't work so well 00:24:35.54\00:24:38.71 in an Asian culture where kids don't have a voice 00:24:38.74\00:24:43.58 and it would shame the family if the child said that, 00:24:43.61\00:24:47.15 uncle, my uncle or this community member 00:24:47.18\00:24:50.69 that was a good friend is doing something like that. 00:24:50.72\00:24:54.66 So we're prayerful, 00:24:54.69\00:24:56.89 we are praying continually to ask God, 00:24:56.93\00:25:00.00 you know what, what can we do? 00:25:00.03\00:25:02.86 Who can we work with? 00:25:02.90\00:25:04.23 And there are many wonderful organizations 00:25:04.27\00:25:06.13 that are over there that we are working with 00:25:06.17\00:25:08.94 and researching and what we've found 00:25:08.97\00:25:13.07 that a participatory type where the nationals 00:25:13.11\00:25:17.98 can actually help write the curriculum were on a-- 00:25:18.01\00:25:21.82 you know, we've invited them to our board meetings 00:25:21.85\00:25:25.02 and our committee meetings, but they are shy. 00:25:25.05\00:25:27.96 They don't have the English ability 00:25:27.99\00:25:29.82 and they don't feel like they can speak up 00:25:29.86\00:25:32.09 and we need their advice, we need their ideas 00:25:32.13\00:25:35.10 as how if a child was being abused 00:25:35.13\00:25:38.23 how would you address this? 00:25:38.27\00:25:41.90 And to get there you know, by observing 00:25:41.94\00:25:44.87 the children themselves and hearing their stories 00:25:44.91\00:25:48.04 so that we get the Asian, the Asian perspective 00:25:48.08\00:25:53.62 so that when this curriculum is finished 00:25:53.65\00:25:55.92 it's not gonna just sit on the shelf, 00:25:55.95\00:25:58.22 but that it truly is going to reduce the risk 00:25:58.25\00:26:02.06 and help prevent in the future them 00:26:02.09\00:26:05.89 going into human trafficking. 00:26:05.93\00:26:08.06 We wanted to be a Christ centered approach. 00:26:08.10\00:26:10.77 Right. 00:26:10.80\00:26:12.13 And so that is, we're still in those stages 00:26:12.17\00:26:15.70 of preparing that and planning that 00:26:15.74\00:26:17.81 and we seek your prayers on this. 00:26:17.84\00:26:21.21 Our goal is to try to finish it 00:26:21.24\00:26:22.81 by the end of the year and get it out. 00:26:22.84\00:26:25.81 And not just for our Feed and Read Schools 00:26:25.85\00:26:28.28 but our vision is to be able to help the families, 00:26:28.32\00:26:32.59 the communities to become healthier 00:26:32.62\00:26:36.09 in their communication and in their love 00:26:36.12\00:26:38.43 to have healthier communities in their relationships. 00:26:38.46\00:26:43.10 You know, we know that this is a problem 00:26:43.13\00:26:45.43 in this country and around the world, 00:26:45.47\00:26:47.67 but there is some nations where it's like pandemic, 00:26:47.70\00:26:50.34 it's absolutely so prevalent 00:26:50.37\00:26:54.58 that we have to attack it in all fronts wherever we can. 00:26:54.61\00:26:59.21 Yes. 00:26:59.25\00:27:00.58 In this picture that we have of the girls in the school, 00:27:00.62\00:27:03.62 some of the very ones 00:27:03.65\00:27:05.05 that were helped to come to school 00:27:05.09\00:27:06.96 when they were young are now teaching 00:27:06.99\00:27:10.33 the other children and if they had not gotten 00:27:10.36\00:27:13.03 into the schools most likely 00:27:13.06\00:27:14.56 they would be out there being abused, being used 00:27:14.60\00:27:18.37 and so it's excited to be a part of schools 00:27:18.40\00:27:21.00 and a community, a Christian community 00:27:21.04\00:27:22.84 that's reaching out to them. 00:27:22.87\00:27:24.21 Well, this is one more thing that ASAP is involved with. 00:27:24.24\00:27:27.94 But what are some of the others? 00:27:27.98\00:27:29.94 Well, ASAP Ministry stands for Advocates 00:27:29.98\00:27:32.71 for Southeast Asians and the Persecuted. 00:27:32.75\00:27:35.18 The focus came out of the refugees 00:27:35.22\00:27:36.99 and has expanded now to four countries, 00:27:37.02\00:27:40.46 four of the top countries 00:27:40.49\00:27:43.09 where there is persecution going on, 00:27:43.12\00:27:44.86 that the worldwide gives a list of-- 00:27:44.89\00:27:46.96 we ministered to four of the top 30. 00:27:47.00\00:27:49.63 Right. 00:27:49.66\00:27:51.00 And so we're dealing with countries 00:27:51.03\00:27:52.40 where it's hard to show the gospel. 00:27:52.43\00:27:54.07 We're in Cambodia, we're in Laos, Vietnam, Myanmar 00:27:54.10\00:27:58.77 or Burma and Thailand 00:27:58.81\00:28:01.54 and some others that we can't mention. 00:28:01.58\00:28:03.61 So the primary work is to show the gospel 00:28:03.65\00:28:06.95 in a holistic way that, that puts together 00:28:06.98\00:28:11.39 the right arm that God intends of loving, 00:28:11.42\00:28:14.52 caring for those who were sick for those who are poor, 00:28:14.56\00:28:17.13 those who possessed by demons 00:28:17.16\00:28:18.86 as well as sharing Jesus Christ and leading people to the Lord. 00:28:18.89\00:28:23.20 So there's a special story Julie is gonna share 00:28:23.23\00:28:27.57 that I like her to share, of how that actually lives out 00:28:27.60\00:28:30.97 as we train-- if there's a church planter 00:28:31.01\00:28:32.97 we train them for medical ministry. 00:28:33.01\00:28:34.91 If they are medical missionary 00:28:34.94\00:28:36.38 we train them to share the gospel 00:28:36.41\00:28:38.18 so that we can have people that 00:28:38.21\00:28:40.15 represent Christ as best as possible. 00:28:40.18\00:28:42.58 Well, tell us that story, Julie, would you? 00:28:42.62\00:28:45.62 For 20 years Dr. Mary-Ann McNeilus 00:28:45.65\00:28:48.89 would faithfully come over and train the 400 00:28:48.92\00:28:52.43 national missionaries in simple remedies. 00:28:52.46\00:28:56.06 And there was one of our lay pastor's, 00:28:56.10\00:28:59.43 his name is Pastor Gayle 00:28:59.47\00:29:01.37 and he's in Laos he lives in Laos, 00:29:01.40\00:29:03.37 he used to be a Buddhist monk 00:29:03.41\00:29:05.34 and now he has 75 church members meeting 00:29:05.37\00:29:09.04 every Sabbath in his home and excited about 00:29:09.08\00:29:12.91 sharing the love of Jesus 00:29:12.95\00:29:15.12 along with the medical simple remedies 00:29:15.15\00:29:18.12 that he can, that he can share 00:29:18.15\00:29:20.59 when he sees somebody that is in need. 00:29:20.62\00:29:23.19 And one day Pastor Gayle was looking across his field 00:29:23.22\00:29:27.16 and he saw the farmer that live next door to him 00:29:27.20\00:29:30.03 just hobbled over like an old man limping 00:29:30.07\00:29:33.10 and he thought that's strange, 00:29:33.13\00:29:34.47 he's not that old, what's the matter with him? 00:29:34.50\00:29:37.27 And he went over 00:29:37.31\00:29:38.64 and he heard him yelling help, help. 00:29:38.67\00:29:41.24 And the farmer had just been bit by a scorpion 00:29:41.28\00:29:44.45 and when he came closer his foot was really swollen. 00:29:44.48\00:29:48.98 And he had, he was ready 00:29:49.02\00:29:51.72 and he pulled out a chuck of charcoal 00:29:51.75\00:29:53.79 that he would usually keep in this pocket 00:29:53.82\00:29:56.19 and he crushed it on a rock 00:29:56.22\00:29:57.56 and got some water from the creek 00:29:57.59\00:29:59.89 and he prayed before he put the charcoal 00:29:59.93\00:30:02.93 on his foot, on his leg. 00:30:02.96\00:30:05.23 And he prayed that God would draw out 00:30:05.27\00:30:08.97 the poison out of this man's leg 00:30:09.00\00:30:11.21 and that the power of Jesus would be seen 00:30:11.24\00:30:13.58 and impressed this farmer 00:30:13.61\00:30:15.14 who was a Buddhist of the love of Jesus said, 00:30:15.18\00:30:17.98 he had for this man, in the name of Jesus, amen. 00:30:18.01\00:30:22.58 And then he put it on his leg 00:30:22.62\00:30:24.69 and immediately the pain was gone. 00:30:24.72\00:30:27.86 And the farmer said, what, this is black magic. 00:30:27.89\00:30:30.99 What is this? 00:30:31.03\00:30:32.59 And he said, no, it's just charcoal, 00:30:32.63\00:30:34.90 but it's the power of God 00:30:34.93\00:30:36.30 that's working through the charcoal. 00:30:36.33\00:30:38.43 You can come to my house this Sabbath 00:30:38.47\00:30:40.34 and I can tell you more about that powerful God 00:30:40.37\00:30:43.54 and sure enough that Sabbath he came with not just himself 00:30:43.57\00:30:47.28 but his whole family 00:30:47.31\00:30:48.64 and his son-in-law as well that Sabbath 00:30:48.68\00:30:51.08 and every Sabbath after that until they were baptized 00:30:51.11\00:30:54.65 and all of their family are church members today. 00:30:54.68\00:30:58.75 Isn't that amazing? 00:30:58.79\00:31:00.12 All of this because a scorpion stung him 00:31:00.16\00:31:04.29 but then God had a friend there 00:31:04.33\00:31:07.00 in the right place at the right time 00:31:07.03\00:31:09.43 with the right thing to do and amazing 00:31:09.46\00:31:12.70 what charcoal will do, it's really amazing. 00:31:12.73\00:31:16.24 It's really special with ASAP Ministries 00:31:16.27\00:31:18.87 to be working with about 00:31:18.91\00:31:20.24 400 lay people, national missionaries. 00:31:20.28\00:31:25.21 Instead of the expense that 00:31:25.25\00:31:26.58 goes into sending the missionary, like 00:31:26.61\00:31:27.95 when we were sent 00:31:27.98\00:31:29.32 and there's a place for that like 00:31:29.35\00:31:30.99 where there are the local people to work with, 00:31:31.02\00:31:33.56 but where we can 00:31:33.59\00:31:34.92 where there's still much of the countries 00:31:34.96\00:31:36.29 that are completely un-reached to empower the local people. 00:31:36.32\00:31:39.36 So we raise their support, 00:31:39.39\00:31:41.06 we raise prayer support for them 00:31:41.10\00:31:43.06 and then we go over and at least once a year 00:31:43.10\00:31:44.93 we're interacting with them, 00:31:44.97\00:31:46.53 interviewing them to hear their stories 00:31:46.57\00:31:48.24 to pray for them to find out their needs 00:31:48.27\00:31:50.57 and so the idea is to disciple national missionaries 00:31:50.61\00:31:54.74 who can disciple their own people 00:31:54.78\00:31:56.24 so much better than we can. 00:31:56.28\00:31:58.05 And we would like to just show you one short, 00:31:58.08\00:32:00.15 one minute video clip of one of those national missionaries 00:32:00.18\00:32:03.22 and the difference he made in his community in a ways 00:32:03.25\00:32:05.95 that would take us years to be able to share and care. 00:32:05.99\00:32:09.46 All right, let's watch that. 00:32:09.49\00:32:12.43 One of the ASAP sponsored church planters 00:32:12.46\00:32:15.33 named Chad recently got a desperate call 00:32:15.36\00:32:17.77 from one of his new church members. 00:32:17.80\00:32:19.63 She said her husband 00:32:19.67\00:32:21.00 some Sumsal is acting very strange, 00:32:21.04\00:32:23.71 carrying rice bags around the village for no reason 00:32:23.74\00:32:25.87 and mumbling nonsense to unseen people. 00:32:25.91\00:32:29.68 She said, one night he had climbed 00:32:29.71\00:32:31.55 a way up to the top of palm sugar tree 00:32:31.58\00:32:34.28 and evil spirit urged him to jump down 00:32:34.32\00:32:36.32 and end it all. 00:32:36.35\00:32:38.35 Fortunately, he climbed back down. 00:32:38.39\00:32:40.96 Can brother Chad please come and pray for him? 00:32:40.99\00:32:44.16 Chad and the church members prayed for Sumsal. 00:32:44.19\00:32:47.20 For three days they kept gathering around 00:32:47.23\00:32:49.26 caring for him and praying for him. 00:32:49.30\00:32:52.43 Chad said, I'm not a doctor and have no medicine, 00:32:52.47\00:32:55.74 but the only power I had is access through prayer. 00:32:55.77\00:32:59.61 Spirits went away. 00:32:59.64\00:33:01.41 Now Sumsal is joining his wife to church. 00:33:01.44\00:33:04.11 This is the difference that God's power 00:33:04.15\00:33:07.22 and love working through a national missionary can make. 00:33:07.25\00:33:11.32 Well, that is amazing video 00:33:11.35\00:33:13.79 and this man is making an impact 00:33:13.82\00:33:17.63 and God's using him. 00:33:17.66\00:33:19.09 And this disciple thing is, its exciting 00:33:19.13\00:33:22.36 'cause Christ say go and make disciples. 00:33:22.40\00:33:25.53 And what are you doing is that? 00:33:25.57\00:33:27.64 You know, as we're wrestling with our little piece 00:33:27.67\00:33:30.41 of finishing the great commission, 00:33:30.44\00:33:31.94 we keep saying, how Lord, you're gonna do this? 00:33:31.97\00:33:34.01 We see the millions of people, we fly over Bangkok and place 00:33:34.04\00:33:36.91 and you think, how can it ever be finished? 00:33:36.95\00:33:39.61 But Jesus has laid it all out carefully 00:33:39.65\00:33:42.28 in Matthew, Mark, Luke, John 00:33:42.32\00:33:44.02 and Acts and Daniel and Revelation. 00:33:44.05\00:33:46.19 It's all there, if we will study carefully, 00:33:46.22\00:33:48.32 if we look at Peter's life. 00:33:48.36\00:33:49.69 How did he become this person 00:33:49.72\00:33:51.29 who could lead 3,000 people to Christ in one day? 00:33:51.33\00:33:54.40 You have the three and half years of discipleship 00:33:54.43\00:33:57.07 then that's not enough as great as that must have been, 00:33:57.10\00:34:00.44 he fails miserable. 00:34:00.47\00:34:02.07 Then you have him falling and realizing he is a sinner 00:34:02.10\00:34:05.54 and he sees what Jesus does on the cross, 00:34:05.57\00:34:07.68 he dies with Christ, he rises, he becomes a new man. 00:34:07.71\00:34:10.65 And Jesus still says, it's not enough, 00:34:10.68\00:34:12.71 wait for the Holy Sprit to come upon you. 00:34:12.75\00:34:15.05 So he does and then he's ready. 00:34:15.08\00:34:17.42 We have to do the same. 00:34:17.45\00:34:18.95 And in our cooperation with these lay missionaries 00:34:18.99\00:34:23.06 we call them to go through that. 00:34:23.09\00:34:25.63 But some of the challenge, some times I go 00:34:25.66\00:34:27.70 and we're teaching, we're training 00:34:27.73\00:34:29.23 and some of them come from backgrounds 00:34:29.26\00:34:31.57 where they can hardly read or write, 00:34:31.60\00:34:32.93 they are struggling to read the Bible. 00:34:32.97\00:34:34.77 So we think how do we train in a way they can multiply? 00:34:34.80\00:34:37.21 Where they can disciple quickly and go far with it. 00:34:37.24\00:34:40.64 So we put together a set of lessons, 00:34:40.68\00:34:42.81 20 lesson called Disciples of Jesus and Cross of Christ. 00:34:42.84\00:34:46.51 And these 20 lessons take them through the basics 00:34:46.55\00:34:48.98 of what is it mean to what we just talked about 00:34:49.02\00:34:51.89 that experience of Peter all the way through? 00:34:51.92\00:34:54.49 Well, as we shared them with them, 00:34:54.52\00:34:56.16 we just went back recently to a Cambodian camp meeting 00:34:56.19\00:34:58.99 and we met a man named Sooty. 00:34:59.03\00:35:01.10 He's one of these national missionaries 00:35:01.13\00:35:02.50 that we support and he's been using the book. 00:35:02.53\00:35:05.20 It's just a book with pictures that have been made 00:35:05.23\00:35:07.84 similar to the way Cambodians look, 00:35:07.87\00:35:10.11 the way Asians look 00:35:10.14\00:35:11.71 and as Sooty began to share that he got so excited. 00:35:11.74\00:35:17.15 One young girl who came along straightly up 00:35:17.18\00:35:19.68 as she began to, she's watched them doing it, 00:35:19.71\00:35:21.72 she said, I want to read the Bible. 00:35:21.75\00:35:23.82 I want to learn these lessons, but I can't read or write. 00:35:23.85\00:35:27.26 And he said, never mind I'll teach you, 00:35:27.29\00:35:29.02 come on I'll help you. 00:35:29.06\00:35:30.56 So he began to just open the Bible 00:35:30.59\00:35:32.06 and these simple lessons that are story based 00:35:32.09\00:35:34.46 and within three months she could read and write 00:35:34.50\00:35:37.40 and she began carrying the book around herself. 00:35:37.43\00:35:39.93 And she said to her friends, 00:35:39.97\00:35:41.30 they looked at her and they said, 00:35:41.34\00:35:42.67 what are you carrying that for, you can't read? 00:35:42.70\00:35:44.14 And she said, I can too. Want to see, come. 00:35:44.17\00:35:47.08 And she began to teach them the Bible stories 00:35:47.11\00:35:49.14 just as she learned them and now has other young people 00:35:49.18\00:35:52.11 ready to be baptized along with her. 00:35:52.15\00:35:54.08 Wow. 00:35:54.12\00:35:55.45 So Jesus is gonna use all of us. 00:35:55.48\00:35:57.55 If we will simply tell a story, love people holistically 00:35:57.59\00:36:01.42 and deliberately disciple those that 00:36:01.46\00:36:03.99 we reach out to, so that they can in turn-- 00:36:04.03\00:36:06.80 Now some of our viewers may not quite understand. 00:36:06.83\00:36:10.37 How do you love holistically? 00:36:10.40\00:36:12.97 Give this a little insight into that, would you? 00:36:13.00\00:36:15.67 Well, I think learning 00:36:15.70\00:36:17.07 how to care for peoples health needs. 00:36:17.11\00:36:19.91 We all know if we have any 00:36:19.94\00:36:21.48 Seventh-day Adventist background, 00:36:21.51\00:36:23.01 we know enough about health that we can help the majority 00:36:23.04\00:36:25.61 of people in the world have a better life, 00:36:25.65\00:36:28.18 just sharing that. 00:36:28.22\00:36:29.55 Natural remedies, learning to care 00:36:29.58\00:36:30.99 for the poor to help them, they help themselves, 00:36:31.02\00:36:33.99 being a friend like we mentioned earlier 00:36:34.02\00:36:35.59 with the refugees, with those who have 00:36:35.62\00:36:37.69 just come taking them to the bank, 00:36:37.73\00:36:40.50 to the grocery store and getting them acquainted, 00:36:40.53\00:36:42.83 sometimes providing them with the basic necessities 00:36:42.86\00:36:46.17 that they don't have as they have just arrived. 00:36:46.20\00:36:48.74 So loving like Christ did. 00:36:48.77\00:36:50.44 Amen. Amen. 00:36:50.47\00:36:52.31 Well, it is an exciting thing to see 00:36:52.34\00:36:56.01 the results of sharing Christ. 00:36:56.04\00:36:58.78 But here at 3ABN, you know, we're almost 00:36:58.81\00:37:01.65 all around the world. 00:37:01.68\00:37:03.02 I mean, pretty much as somebody has said, 00:37:03.05\00:37:05.99 70% of the world is water 00:37:06.02\00:37:07.79 and the rest is covered by 3ABN. 00:37:07.82\00:37:10.23 And so we do reach around. 00:37:10.26\00:37:12.96 Of course, mostly usually in English, 00:37:12.99\00:37:15.50 but its amazing how many people like you say, 00:37:15.53\00:37:17.73 want to learn English. 00:37:17.77\00:37:19.53 So when they see 3ABN they start to watch. 00:37:19.57\00:37:22.77 We're hearing constantly from countries 00:37:22.80\00:37:25.84 that we can reveal 00:37:25.87\00:37:28.14 where they have a underground churches going on. 00:37:28.18\00:37:31.25 Some of them 200 and 300 meeting 00:37:31.28\00:37:34.85 and all involves 3ABN. 00:37:34.88\00:37:37.95 This is where they started, started with one or two people. 00:37:37.99\00:37:40.92 It kept growing, kept growing and has continued to grow. 00:37:40.96\00:37:44.76 So God is using all of these methods 00:37:44.79\00:37:49.03 to reach the people of the world 00:37:49.06\00:37:51.93 and of course, you know, media, 00:37:51.97\00:37:53.64 media has a way of getting behind closed doors 00:37:53.67\00:37:56.37 that is pretty hard sometimes to do otherwise, 00:37:56.40\00:37:59.04 but if somebody has a background 00:37:59.07\00:38:01.41 and then they meet an individual it makes them 00:38:01.44\00:38:04.51 something like eight to ten times 00:38:04.55\00:38:07.25 more likely to be receptive to the gospel 00:38:07.28\00:38:11.12 if they watch something like on 3ABN. 00:38:11.15\00:38:13.96 Amen, just Sabbath we met a lady Christy 00:38:13.99\00:38:17.56 we were talking to her at lunch 00:38:17.59\00:38:19.29 and she said, you're going down to 3ABN? 00:38:19.33\00:38:21.66 Tell them that I just came to this church 00:38:21.70\00:38:23.53 in the last three weeks 00:38:23.57\00:38:24.90 because I've been listening to 3ABN. 00:38:24.93\00:38:26.90 Tell them thank you. That's amazing. 00:41:17.04\00:41:18.91 It is. 00:41:18.94\00:41:20.28 I have seen the power of prayer so many times. 00:41:20.31\00:41:22.51 I don't want to take your time but Leonard Westphal 00:41:22.54\00:41:26.45 and I were holding an evangelistic meeting. 00:41:26.48\00:41:28.48 I was holding meeting in his church 00:41:28.52\00:41:30.42 in New Bedford years ago and we just-- 00:41:30.45\00:41:33.19 we came down to the last weekend of the meetings, 00:41:33.22\00:41:37.99 we only had a few decisions that just weren't coming. 00:41:38.03\00:41:43.77 We knelled around the bed in a little room 00:41:43.80\00:41:45.83 where I was staying and David Peterson 00:41:45.87\00:41:49.97 another pastor and Leonard Westphal 00:41:50.01\00:41:52.37 and myself and all we did was talk to the Lord. 00:41:52.41\00:41:55.78 No fancy prayers, we just said Lord, 00:41:55.81\00:42:00.02 here's Vernon, Vernon has a problem with tobacco 00:42:00.05\00:42:03.49 or Vernon has this or somebody else, 00:42:03.52\00:42:06.65 pray for them and then ask the Lord to help 00:42:06.69\00:42:10.73 or make a decision. 00:42:10.76\00:42:12.23 That Sabbath we baptized 60 00:42:12.26\00:42:15.33 and then he went on to baptize 40 more out of that meeting. 00:42:15.36\00:42:19.37 So we've seen the power of prayer. 00:42:19.40\00:42:22.44 Folks, don't stop praying. Amen. 00:42:22.47\00:42:25.31 Don't have to be fancy, just talk to God. 00:42:25.34\00:42:29.01 He understands your heart and just, just talk to Him. 00:42:29.04\00:42:33.55 I'm so happy you shared that about the prayer. 00:42:33.58\00:42:35.95 That's exciting. Yeah. 00:42:35.98\00:42:37.45 So what else is going on there that 00:42:37.49\00:42:39.92 our people need to hear about? 00:42:39.95\00:42:41.89 Well, I think it's a matter, 00:42:41.92\00:42:43.39 you know, when we hear all these good things 00:42:43.43\00:42:44.96 and there's so much 00:42:44.99\00:42:46.33 that's happening beautiful ministries. 00:42:46.36\00:42:48.63 But we're asking the question, what can I do? 00:42:48.66\00:42:50.97 How can I be involved? Yeah. 00:42:51.00\00:42:52.53 And so I would say, number one is prayer. 00:42:52.57\00:42:54.74 What we've just said we have prayer partners 00:42:54.77\00:42:57.34 that sign up to receive the exact information 00:42:57.37\00:42:59.87 what's going on, what the prayer needs are, 00:42:59.91\00:43:01.88 that can be found at the asapministries.org website. 00:43:01.91\00:43:05.35 Secondly, He's giving, there's a huge need to give. 00:43:05.38\00:43:11.22 I think I once saw in particular just recently 00:43:11.25\00:43:15.06 when we met with the Vietnamese workers, 00:43:15.09\00:43:18.89 they said we would like to give out a million DVD's, 00:43:18.93\00:43:23.37 sermon DVD's across our country. 00:43:23.40\00:43:25.20 You know, a lot of restrictions in Vietnam, 00:43:25.23\00:43:26.70 but they can pass out DVD's and just, you know, risk 00:43:26.74\00:43:29.80 whatever someone does when they see it. 00:43:29.84\00:43:32.54 But a million and we said, well, that's a lot of money 00:43:32.57\00:43:34.98 at least cost one quarter for every DVD, 00:43:35.01\00:43:37.41 but, so maybe 250,000 but we'll try. 00:43:37.45\00:43:41.02 And so they said, you know, this is so needed 00:43:41.05\00:43:43.79 because amazing things happen. 00:43:43.82\00:43:45.55 One of the stories was, a businessman 00:43:45.59\00:43:48.99 was going to deliver some goods at a house 00:43:49.02\00:43:51.93 and the lady said, do you want these three DVD's? 00:43:51.96\00:43:54.46 So I don't know why? 00:43:54.50\00:43:55.83 She said, well, I'm gonna throw them away if you don't. 00:43:55.86\00:43:57.20 He looked and they were religious DVD's 00:43:57.23\00:43:59.00 and he had grown up 00:43:59.03\00:44:00.37 in a Sunday keeping Christian church, 00:44:00.40\00:44:02.10 but he wandered away from his faith. 00:44:02.14\00:44:04.21 So he takes them home, he watches them 00:44:04.24\00:44:06.37 every day for three days. 00:44:06.41\00:44:07.74 He just absorbed it. 00:44:07.78\00:44:09.11 They are bringing him to God, they are showing him that 00:44:09.14\00:44:11.21 the Bible is the source of truth. 00:44:11.25\00:44:13.65 And he begins to find a contact number, 00:44:13.68\00:44:17.15 ASAP sponsored worker visits him 00:44:17.19\00:44:19.65 and begins to lead him to Christ 00:44:19.69\00:44:21.52 and to a full understanding of truth. 00:44:21.56\00:44:23.63 He gets baptized and his business immediately 00:44:23.66\00:44:26.53 begins to go downhill. 00:44:26.56\00:44:28.53 So okay, what's the deal? 00:44:28.56\00:44:29.90 I've given my life to the Lord, I'm seeking it first, 00:44:29.93\00:44:31.83 I'm gonna seek the kingdom of God even further. 00:44:31.87\00:44:34.27 And so he does and he shuts his business 00:44:34.30\00:44:36.91 and he begins to pray and fast 00:44:36.94\00:44:38.27 and then he goes out giving DVD's everywhere 00:44:38.31\00:44:41.01 to all the Protestant pastors that he can possibly find. 00:44:41.04\00:44:44.45 Some come even to stay at his home 00:44:44.48\00:44:46.31 and are led to Christ until in this district area, 00:44:46.35\00:44:49.48 there are now about 800 people studying the truth 00:44:49.52\00:44:52.72 or baptized at different stages 00:44:52.75\00:44:54.82 and they want more of those DVD's. 00:44:54.86\00:44:56.93 So people can get behind it and give out these DVD's. 00:44:56.96\00:45:01.13 We saw one school Ukiah Junior Academy 00:45:01.16\00:45:03.83 where I grew up, as we had a weekend prayer with them, 00:45:03.87\00:45:06.80 these kids just started gathering money, 00:45:06.84\00:45:09.47 by the end of the week we had hundreds of dollars 00:45:09.50\00:45:11.77 and quarters and bills that they were all put together. 00:45:11.81\00:45:15.44 So giving is another way, but probably the thing 00:45:15.48\00:45:18.85 that is most important right now, beyond our giving, 00:45:18.88\00:45:22.08 well, I don't know if I want to say more then praying 00:45:22.12\00:45:24.42 but is saying I am a missionary, 00:45:24.45\00:45:27.09 I am a disciple of Jesus for the ends of earth, 00:45:27.12\00:45:30.16 that doesn't mean all of us have to go overseas. 00:45:30.19\00:45:32.56 But with the mission field having come here, 00:45:32.59\00:45:35.13 it means all of us can learn from say, 00:45:35.16\00:45:37.53 they reached the world next door kid 00:45:37.57\00:45:38.93 or other ways to just get out and go and began to share. 00:45:38.97\00:45:44.37 Okay, well, listen if you would like 00:45:44.41\00:45:46.74 to support ASAP Ministries and you want more information, 00:45:46.78\00:45:51.95 this is how you can get it. 00:45:51.98\00:45:56.05 If you would like to support ASAP financially 00:45:56.08\00:45:58.85 or as a volunteer or if you would like 00:45:58.89\00:46:00.96 to know more about their ministry, 00:46:00.99\00:46:02.92 you can reach them by writing to ASAP Ministries, 00:46:02.96\00:46:07.03 206 Cass Ave, Berrien Springs, Michigan 49103. 00:46:07.06\00:46:12.33 That's ASAP Ministries, 206 Cass Ave, 00:46:12.37\00:46:17.31 Berrien Springs, Michigan 49103. 00:46:17.34\00:46:20.68 You can call 269-471-3026. 00:46:20.71\00:46:24.81 That's 269-471-3026 or visit their website 00:46:24.85\00:46:30.72 at asapministries.org. 00:46:30.75\00:46:33.86 That's asapministries.org. 00:46:33.89\00:46:41.40 Well, contact them, 00:46:41.43\00:46:42.76 they will be anxious to hear from you 00:46:42.80\00:46:44.37 and this is definitely a ministry 00:46:44.40\00:46:47.04 that's worth supporting. 00:46:47.07\00:46:49.07 Scott, you've got some other things 00:46:49.10\00:46:50.87 to share with us I know, so... 00:46:50.91\00:46:53.24 There's a lot of stories to share 00:46:53.27\00:46:54.64 that we've been able to, but every week 00:46:54.68\00:46:56.98 I do an eight minute podcast 00:46:57.01\00:46:58.41 that people can find at the website there, 00:46:58.45\00:47:00.92 that tells a specific need that is going on in the world, 00:47:00.95\00:47:04.62 either right there in Southeast Asia 00:47:04.65\00:47:06.15 or here in North America 00:47:06.19\00:47:08.09 and then shows how somebody is doing something about it. 00:47:08.12\00:47:10.69 This is what God wants us to do, 00:47:10.73\00:47:12.13 to look at the world and say, that problems got to be fixed. 00:47:12.16\00:47:15.60 I hate that problem worst and well 00:47:15.63\00:47:17.60 and then say, okay, Lord, how do You want to use me? 00:47:17.63\00:47:20.37 So our podcast is there, reach the world ASAP. 00:47:20.40\00:47:24.31 The other resource that is extremely helpful 00:47:24.34\00:47:26.68 just simply a card, but it's a website 00:47:26.71\00:47:29.58 that is a portal to hundreds of websites 00:47:29.61\00:47:32.11 for over a hundred languages. 00:47:32.15\00:47:34.18 This is MyLanguageMyLife.com. 00:47:34.22\00:47:37.35 And so when I'm traveling and I get on the airplane 00:47:37.39\00:47:39.55 and I meet people from, like the girl I just met from Dubai. 00:47:39.59\00:47:44.16 She was Indian, I was able to hand this to her 00:47:44.19\00:47:46.39 after we had a good conversation 00:47:46.43\00:47:47.86 and I know that she could look things up 00:47:47.90\00:47:50.07 in her own language and hear the gospel, 00:47:50.10\00:47:51.90 watch a Jesus video, listen to AWR 00:47:51.93\00:47:54.60 or read Bible studies from Voice of Prophecy 00:47:54.64\00:47:57.21 just in one card, instead login long the huge stack` 00:47:57.24\00:48:00.78 that would fit them many people who are meeting now. 00:48:00.81\00:48:03.01 So when they respond to this, 00:48:03.04\00:48:05.18 what kind of information do they get? 00:48:05.21\00:48:06.78 It's taking them. 00:48:06.82\00:48:08.15 If they go to MyLanguageMyLife.com 00:48:08.18\00:48:10.19 they can just immediately see in Japanese, 00:48:10.22\00:48:12.52 everything we've got as a church 00:48:12.55\00:48:14.49 that's worth putting up there and we're still adding 00:48:14.52\00:48:16.32 and gathering more, but there's things there 00:48:16.36\00:48:19.06 in their language it's a portal to other websites 00:48:19.09\00:48:22.33 that they can find. 00:48:22.36\00:48:23.70 All right, so this is a true witnessing card. 00:48:23.73\00:48:26.67 How do they get these cards, from you? 00:48:26.70\00:48:28.60 They can get them right there online 00:48:28.64\00:48:30.57 at asapministries.org or they can order them from us 00:48:30.61\00:48:34.48 and some have ordered a bunch 00:48:34.51\00:48:35.84 and they have just have given them out wherever they go. 00:48:35.88\00:48:37.51 Can they just have their own printed? 00:48:37.55\00:48:39.25 They sure can. 00:48:39.28\00:48:40.62 They can print their own business card in the back 00:48:40.65\00:48:42.68 as I have got and do that. 00:48:42.72\00:48:44.79 So that's there, it's done, 00:48:44.82\00:48:46.15 they can download it and put it on. 00:48:46.19\00:48:47.72 All right, man, that's a great way to witness. 00:48:47.76\00:48:50.99 I have a 3ABN card that I use when I'm on 00:48:51.03\00:48:55.26 and it tells on the backside how to watch 3ABN, 00:48:55.30\00:48:59.33 all the different ways that you can watch. 00:48:59.37\00:49:01.64 3ABN is on there too. All right. 00:49:01.67\00:49:03.61 So if they go to English or the Spanish 00:49:03.64\00:49:05.37 they are gonna link as well. 00:49:05.41\00:49:07.41 All right, you have got one more story 00:49:07.44\00:49:09.38 you're gonna share with me, right. 00:49:09.41\00:49:10.75 We have about two minutes. 00:49:10.78\00:49:12.11 Okay. 00:49:12.15\00:49:13.48 In closing I just want to share 00:49:13.52\00:49:15.82 that we need to have more of the priority 00:49:15.85\00:49:21.59 that God has and just to-- 00:49:21.62\00:49:24.96 I've learned to pray a prayer 00:49:24.99\00:49:26.70 that just says Lord, today interrupt my day with 00:49:26.73\00:49:29.66 what's on Your agenda and then give me courage 00:49:29.70\00:49:32.87 and boldness because it's not always easy 00:49:32.90\00:49:35.20 to listen to the Holy Spirit and it takes courage 00:49:35.24\00:49:39.57 and to pray that God will use us 00:49:39.61\00:49:43.01 when the Holy Spirit wants to tangibly use us, 00:49:43.04\00:49:46.92 our voice, our hands to love, love the people. 00:49:46.95\00:49:51.15 I want to end with this story. 00:49:51.19\00:49:52.75 We were just last, two months ago 00:49:52.79\00:49:54.56 we were back in Thailand and it's been three years ago 00:49:54.59\00:49:57.46 since we moved from Thailand 00:49:57.49\00:50:00.50 and we had just flown into Bangkok 00:50:00.53\00:50:02.90 where there's 13 million people in Bangkok 00:50:02.93\00:50:06.13 and I was hungry and I was excited to go 00:50:06.17\00:50:08.24 at the little Hole in the Wall place after the road 00:50:08.27\00:50:11.17 where I known this lady to-- 00:50:11.21\00:50:13.41 She's just a vendor right off the street, 00:50:13.44\00:50:15.24 but she makes the best Thai food. 00:50:15.28\00:50:17.28 And so just I and my son and I went there 00:50:17.31\00:50:20.68 and Scott said, quickly comeback 00:50:20.72\00:50:22.22 because we're gonna meet with the all the missionaries, 00:50:22.25\00:50:24.75 national missionaries and have a worship at 7.30. 00:50:24.79\00:50:27.86 So we went across the busy street and went 00:50:27.89\00:50:30.66 and got our food and we were just coming back 00:50:30.69\00:50:32.63 and they were hundred of vendors out 00:50:32.66\00:50:35.60 and selling fruit and food and all kinds of things 00:50:35.63\00:50:39.30 and the Asians look all the same, 00:50:39.33\00:50:42.44 but there was one lady that from her side view, 00:50:42.47\00:50:46.47 I thought that looks like Kunluck 00:50:46.51\00:50:48.58 and in my mind I thought no, I'm in a hurry, 00:50:48.61\00:50:52.51 I forgotten Thai, I don't think I'm gonna, 00:50:52.55\00:50:55.12 you know, be able to talk with her, 00:50:55.15\00:50:56.48 but the Lord kept nudging me go back to her. 00:50:56.52\00:50:59.22 So two blocks later I turned around 00:50:59.25\00:51:01.62 and I can go back and sure enough it was Kunluck. 00:51:01.66\00:51:04.59 And right there on the street we hugged, 00:51:04.63\00:51:07.26 she's poured her heart out in about 00:51:07.30\00:51:09.13 30 seconds telling me that 00:51:09.16\00:51:11.23 she had just separated from her husband, 00:51:11.27\00:51:14.04 she stopped going to church and she had cancer. 00:51:14.07\00:51:16.74 Long story short she gave her heart to Jesus that week. 00:51:16.77\00:51:20.44 Wow. 00:51:20.48\00:51:21.81 And came to our training, 00:51:21.84\00:51:23.18 our national missionaries training. 00:51:23.21\00:51:24.98 All right. 00:51:25.01\00:51:26.35 Well, listen, we'll be back in a few minutes 00:51:26.38\00:51:28.68 but we want you to hear this right now. 00:51:28.72\00:51:31.55
