Correct. 00:02:17.63\00:02:18.97 Amen, and they are all involved 00:02:19.00\00:02:20.34 in this ministry that is called Tanglewood Ministry. 00:02:20.37\00:02:23.17 Correct. 00:02:23.20\00:02:24.54 And we're gonna talk about how that happened 00:02:24.57\00:02:26.37 where that names come from 00:02:26.41\00:02:27.74 because this is the very interesting story, 00:02:27.78\00:02:29.78 lot of stories, under stories, side bars, back stories, 00:02:29.81\00:02:34.18 a lot of things going on that became part of this ministry. 00:02:34.22\00:02:37.59 Don is the team leader. 00:02:37.62\00:02:38.95 We're gonna talk about what that means 00:02:38.99\00:02:40.32 and what you do. 00:02:40.36\00:02:41.79 Barbara is the coordinator 00:02:41.82\00:02:43.16 and in some ways I guess the founder 00:02:43.19\00:02:44.83 because we're gonna talk about it also 00:02:44.86\00:02:46.46 and then the health nugget presenter is Eva 00:02:46.49\00:02:51.63 and then Bob says he does-- 00:02:51.67\00:02:53.00 does whatever we ask them to do. 00:02:53.03\00:02:57.27 But he's a team member and plays an important part 00:02:57.31\00:03:00.44 and we'll try to un-package that story in a little bit. 00:03:00.48\00:03:04.28 But before we go to our music, 00:03:04.31\00:03:05.65 I want to just get a little history on you guys 00:03:05.68\00:03:07.02 because you've got interesting story. 00:03:07.05\00:03:10.09 Were you born into an Adventist home? 00:03:10.12\00:03:11.45 Yes, I was. 00:03:11.49\00:03:12.82 Of course you were 00:03:12.85\00:03:14.19 because your mother is right there. 00:03:14.22\00:03:15.56 Exactly. 00:03:15.59\00:03:16.93 I was sure you would say that she was-- 00:03:16.96\00:03:19.53 Get me just a little flavor of your own 00:03:19.56\00:03:21.66 because it's one thing to be born 00:03:21.70\00:03:23.03 Don into an Adventist home. 00:03:23.06\00:03:24.87 It's another thing to accept the Lord for yourself. 00:03:24.90\00:03:26.97 Being born in Adventist home doesn't make you Adventist. 00:03:27.00\00:03:28.34 No, it doesn't. 00:03:28.37\00:03:29.70 Nor does it put your name in the rolls of heaven. 00:03:29.74\00:03:31.71 Just 'cause you're born in the Adventist home. 00:03:31.74\00:03:33.07 When did Christ become real for you 00:03:33.11\00:03:34.68 on a personal level? 00:03:34.71\00:03:36.04 Christ became real actually more recently 2007, 00:03:36.08\00:03:42.08 was when he came real to me and my heart was converted. 00:03:42.12\00:03:46.49 And it was from that 00:03:46.52\00:03:47.86 where my whole life turned around 00:03:47.89\00:03:49.62 but it was the years of going through the motions 00:03:49.66\00:03:53.56 and you know being an Adventist 00:03:53.60\00:03:56.13 whatever that means going through the emotions, 00:03:56.16\00:03:57.97 going to a church outwardly showing the signs 00:03:58.00\00:04:01.34 of being a part of the body of Christ. 00:04:01.37\00:04:04.47 But inwardly rebellion was going on 00:04:04.51\00:04:07.84 and it was only after the Lord finally got a hold at me. 00:04:07.88\00:04:11.68 Yeah. 00:04:11.71\00:04:13.05 That he turned my heart to him, 00:04:13.08\00:04:16.12 turned my life around 00:04:16.15\00:04:17.49 and has done things that just blow me away. 00:04:17.52\00:04:21.36 Praise the Lord. 00:04:21.39\00:04:22.72 Do you have brothers and sisters? 00:04:22.76\00:04:24.09 Yes, I have my brother Greg, Brother Michael, 00:04:24.13\00:04:28.03 I mean Sister Donna, excuse me 00:04:28.06\00:04:30.27 and I do have two half sisters also. 00:04:30.30\00:04:32.90 Jasmine and also Clemia. 00:04:32.93\00:04:34.50 Okay. Yeah. 00:04:34.54\00:04:35.87 Talk to us a little about because you were here 00:04:35.90\00:04:37.41 several years ago and our audience changes 00:04:37.44\00:04:40.88 so very much. 00:04:40.91\00:04:42.24 You are on a wheelchair 00:04:42.28\00:04:43.61 and this not something that you run away from. 00:04:43.65\00:04:44.98 No. 00:04:45.01\00:04:46.35 But give us just a little flavor of that-- 00:04:46.38\00:04:47.72 that whole time, that whole experience? 00:04:47.75\00:04:51.49 I'm in the wheelchair 00:04:51.52\00:04:52.85 because I have an aircraft accident. 00:04:52.89\00:04:54.72 I was involved in flying. 00:04:54.76\00:04:59.49 I was doing a flight training at Andrews University 00:04:59.53\00:05:02.63 and went through the aviation program 00:05:02.66\00:05:05.73 and graduated from there 00:05:05.77\00:05:07.67 but after I had finished my formal training, 00:05:07.70\00:05:10.47 I was given an opportunity to fly what is called 00:05:10.51\00:05:12.97 an ultra light aircraft. 00:05:13.01\00:05:15.18 And this is recreational one pilot experimental type 00:05:15.21\00:05:20.05 of little aircraft and I was given opportunity 00:05:20.08\00:05:24.95 and at 22 I was like, yeah, 00:05:24.99\00:05:27.26 I want to do this new challenge. 00:05:27.29\00:05:29.82 But that day my father had been there 00:05:29.86\00:05:32.46 and he works for the Federal Aviation Administration 00:05:32.49\00:05:35.66 and he was doing airport surveillance that day. 00:05:35.70\00:05:38.17 And he saw the aircraft 00:05:38.20\00:05:40.37 and the owner had been flying it 00:05:40.40\00:05:42.90 and so he told me specifically Don don't fly that aircraft. 00:05:42.94\00:05:50.38 And I said, okay, father I won't do it 00:05:50.41\00:05:52.91 but inside I want to fly this thing. 00:05:52.95\00:05:56.15 And so that evening after work 00:05:56.18\00:05:59.69 I was at the airport and pulled it out 00:05:59.72\00:06:02.16 and spend sometime on the ground doing some taxing 00:06:02.19\00:06:05.69 and just getting used it control. 00:06:05.73\00:06:08.23 And then when the owner came there, 00:06:08.26\00:06:09.60 he gave me some instruction 00:06:09.63\00:06:10.97 as far as how I should fly this thing 00:06:11.00\00:06:14.64 and then set me loose. 00:06:14.67\00:06:16.81 And so I went out to the end of the runway 00:06:16.84\00:06:20.98 said a prayer that is custom to say a prayer 00:06:21.01\00:06:24.65 and I prayed, Lord, be my pilot and my co-pilot, 00:06:24.68\00:06:28.72 and so I took off. 00:06:28.75\00:06:30.69 And in this particular ultra light 00:06:30.72\00:06:34.32 it could be flown also as a hand glider. 00:06:34.36\00:06:36.52 So it has a push pull bar that's attached to the wing 00:06:36.56\00:06:40.76 and so to push to in order to climb 00:06:40.80\00:06:44.50 into the air you have to push the bar out 00:06:44.53\00:06:48.34 to come down you will pull the bar in. 00:06:48.37\00:06:51.44 Well, in an airplane it's the exact opposite. 00:06:51.47\00:06:54.04 You pull back on the control 00:06:54.08\00:06:55.54 so that go up push in to go down 00:06:55.58\00:06:58.25 and so that got reversed in my mind. 00:06:58.28\00:07:02.65 And so I took off like so 00:07:02.68\00:07:05.82 but in my mind I'm supposed to be doing this 00:07:05.85\00:07:09.32 and so that's what I did 00:07:09.36\00:07:10.83 and so I went up probably about 75 feet 00:07:10.86\00:07:13.83 and came down. 00:07:13.86\00:07:15.76 Hit the ground and suffered a spinal compression 00:07:15.80\00:07:19.17 and that left me paralyzed from the waist down. 00:07:19.20\00:07:22.10 And that's been my life ever since. 00:07:22.14\00:07:24.27 Now you were an accomplished pilot. 00:07:24.31\00:07:25.64 You had your license, 00:07:25.67\00:07:27.01 you knew what you're doing on a powered airplane 00:07:27.04\00:07:29.64 but it's counterintuitive to go in ultra light. 00:07:29.68\00:07:31.55 Yes, exactly. 00:07:31.58\00:07:32.91 Having said that you haven't let that stop you 00:07:32.95\00:07:34.68 and we're gonna talk about that 00:07:34.72\00:07:36.05 because you've got involved in some other good stuff. 00:07:36.08\00:07:37.92 Amen. 00:07:37.95\00:07:39.29 Barbara, his mom and we're gonna talk about this 00:07:39.32\00:07:42.32 in just a little bit 00:07:42.36\00:07:43.69 but you were in Oakwood College? 00:07:43.73\00:07:45.73 I didn't finish Oakwood. 00:07:45.76\00:07:47.10 But you did attend. 00:07:47.13\00:07:48.46 Yes, I was not a Seventh-day Adventist 00:07:48.50\00:07:50.13 as a young person, came to Elder Rainey, 00:07:50.17\00:07:53.37 George Rainey's meetings. 00:07:53.40\00:07:54.74 I know Elder Rainey very, very much. 00:07:54.77\00:07:56.10 I came to Cincinnati, put up a big tent 00:07:56.14\00:07:58.61 and because I was dating a young man 00:07:58.64\00:08:02.48 who play the piano every night for 12 weeks or whatever-- 00:08:02.51\00:08:08.02 Yeah. We dated at the tent. 00:08:08.05\00:08:13.36 You admit it. Praise the Lord. 00:08:13.39\00:08:15.62 And at the end of the tent meeting 00:08:15.66\00:08:17.46 I was faced with a decision. 00:08:17.49\00:08:18.83 Sure. 00:08:18.86\00:08:20.20 And decided to become a member 00:08:20.23\00:08:22.50 of the Seventh-day Adventist church. 00:08:22.53\00:08:23.87 Amen. 00:08:23.90\00:08:25.23 And in so doing I lost my family, 00:08:25.27\00:08:27.44 lost my job, lost my car. 00:08:27.47\00:08:29.47 Yeah. 00:08:29.50\00:08:30.84 And that sort of those things 00:08:30.87\00:08:32.21 and church family became my family. 00:08:32.24\00:08:34.51 I lived with brother and Sister Miller 00:08:34.54\00:08:38.35 who were Bible workers with Elder Rainey at that time 00:08:38.38\00:08:41.48 and Father --, the church decided that 00:08:41.52\00:08:44.69 I needed to go back to school, 00:08:44.72\00:08:46.42 I've gone to University of Cincinnati. 00:08:46.45\00:08:49.49 So they gave me $5, a trunk with my belongings 00:08:49.52\00:08:53.23 in it put me on a bus and sent me to Oakwood. 00:08:53.26\00:08:55.80 Sent you to Oakwood. Bless your heart. 00:08:55.83\00:08:57.17 I worked with Elder Rainey again 12 weeks 00:08:57.20\00:08:59.17 in Buffalo, New York in the early '60s 00:08:59.20\00:09:01.50 when he pit up a tent. 00:09:01.54\00:09:02.87 He stayed there for a long time. 00:09:02.90\00:09:04.24 Yeah. 00:09:04.27\00:09:05.61 He started in the summer and by time he was done, 00:09:05.64\00:09:07.58 winter had set in. 00:09:07.61\00:09:08.94 We had heaters in there, 00:09:08.98\00:09:10.31 everybody is in their coat and he's preaching away. 00:09:10.35\00:09:12.45 He preached long there. 00:09:12.48\00:09:14.02 They don't preach quite that long anymore 00:09:14.05\00:09:16.02 but back in those days-- 00:09:16.05\00:09:17.39 That was my introduction to Adventism. 00:09:17.42\00:09:18.75 Bless your heart. 00:09:18.79\00:09:20.12 Yeah, he baptized 189 people in Buffalo, New York. 00:09:20.16\00:09:21.89 Yeah, and quite a few in Cincinnati 00:09:21.92\00:09:24.73 the year I was a member. 00:09:24.76\00:09:26.43 Yeah, Now, brother and Sister Kasznia, 00:09:26.46\00:09:29.16 we'll start with you. 00:09:29.20\00:09:30.53 Eva, where are you from? 00:09:30.57\00:09:31.90 Originally from Idaho, born in Idaho 00:09:31.93\00:09:34.64 but spent the biggest part of my life 00:09:34.67\00:09:36.64 in South Bend, Indiana and grew up there. 00:09:36.67\00:09:38.47 Okay, did you grow up in Adventist home? 00:09:38.51\00:09:40.18 No, I was born into a very Serbian Orthodox Hungarian 00:09:40.21\00:09:45.18 Catholic family and baptize Catholic as a baby. 00:09:45.21\00:09:50.02 And fortunately enough probably 20 years ago, 00:09:50.05\00:09:56.06 I started going to a ladies Adventist, 00:09:56.09\00:09:58.69 a ladies Bible study BSF and-- I was always a questioner, 00:09:58.73\00:10:05.80 even in the Catholic Church I was told so many times 00:10:05.83\00:10:09.84 by a priest, good Catholic girls 00:10:09.87\00:10:11.21 don't ask these questions 00:10:11.24\00:10:12.74 because I was always questioning 00:10:12.77\00:10:14.14 the Sabbath and different things. 00:10:14.18\00:10:16.08 And so 15 years ago 00:10:16.11\00:10:17.45 we came into the Adventist church 00:10:17.48\00:10:19.58 under Russell Burrill 00:10:19.61\00:10:21.82 and been very happy to know the truth 00:10:21.85\00:10:26.02 and praising God and feeling very good. 00:10:26.05\00:10:29.42 I know Russell Burrill very, very well. 00:10:29.46\00:10:31.63 Now where you married when you came into the-- 00:10:31.66\00:10:33.09 Oh, yes, oh, yes, we have three children. 00:10:33.13\00:10:35.83 Two daughters and a son. 00:10:35.86\00:10:37.27 Our son is deceased, but we have two daughters, 00:10:37.30\00:10:40.84 yeah. 00:10:40.87\00:10:42.20 Bob, from where originally? 00:10:42.24\00:10:44.31 I was a Catholic for 65 years. 00:10:44.34\00:10:49.74 And now I've been a Seventh-day Adventist for 15. 00:10:49.78\00:10:52.01 Bless your heart. 00:10:52.05\00:10:53.38 And I've learned the truth. 00:10:53.42\00:10:54.75 I've learned about the State of the Dead, 00:10:54.78\00:10:56.82 and it is just such a wonderful feeling 00:10:56.85\00:10:59.59 to understand that. 00:10:59.62\00:11:00.96 Yeah. 00:11:00.99\00:11:02.32 And when Russell Burrill explained everything 00:11:02.36\00:11:03.69 so well to us and it's just a blessing 00:11:03.73\00:11:06.39 to know that some of our loved ones are not in heaven 00:11:06.43\00:11:10.37 or they're not in hell but they're asleep. 00:11:10.40\00:11:12.57 In fact I wrote a little poem for my mother 00:11:12.60\00:11:14.50 when she died and I said that I would pray 00:11:14.54\00:11:16.91 for her till my dying day. 00:11:16.94\00:11:18.77 And then before I even became a Seventh-day Adventist 00:11:18.81\00:11:21.84 undoubtedly the Holy Spirit convicted me 00:11:21.88\00:11:23.65 and I quit praying for I said why should I pray for my mother 00:11:23.68\00:11:26.28 if she's in heaven she should be praying for me. 00:11:26.31\00:11:28.28 Yeah, that's true. That's the way it should be. 00:11:28.32\00:11:31.02 So I mean, I've learned a lot by reading the Bible. 00:11:31.05\00:11:33.89 There are so many things in there 00:11:33.92\00:11:35.46 and I can understand why we weren't encouraged 00:11:35.49\00:11:37.93 to read the Bible because there are sayings that 00:11:37.96\00:11:42.23 in the Bible that we're not taught. 00:11:42.26\00:11:43.77 Yeah, and particularly if you are a person 00:11:43.80\00:11:45.27 who is a questioner and just doesn't take it 00:11:45.30\00:11:47.00 by road you kind of want to know why is this-- 00:11:47.04\00:11:49.00 why do you say that-- Let me ask you this. 00:11:49.04\00:11:51.97 Coming to the Adventist church so late in life, 00:11:52.01\00:11:55.28 did the whole Sabbath Adventist, 00:11:55.31\00:11:57.41 State of the Death, Sanctuary thing. 00:11:57.45\00:11:59.31 Did it was a kind of slap in the face 00:11:59.35\00:12:00.98 or did it you kind of eased into it. 00:12:01.02\00:12:02.95 No, it wasn't a slap in the face 00:12:02.98\00:12:05.12 for the simple reason that 00:12:05.15\00:12:06.69 once I read the Ten Commandments 00:12:06.72\00:12:08.49 'cause I've never read the Ten Commandments before. 00:12:08.52\00:12:10.93 I went to parochial school till the fifth grade 00:12:10.96\00:12:14.00 and I knew about the flood 00:12:14.03\00:12:15.76 and I knew about Joseph and that 00:12:15.80\00:12:17.70 but I wasn't thought that the fourth commandment 00:12:17.73\00:12:20.90 was the Sabbath. 00:12:20.94\00:12:22.60 I always thought Sunday was a Sabbath 00:12:22.64\00:12:25.01 so once I learned we kept the Sabbath. 00:12:25.04\00:12:28.41 And so I mean there are so many things 00:12:28.44\00:12:29.84 and I learned in the Bible about 00:12:29.88\00:12:31.21 the health message in Leviticus 00:12:31.25\00:12:33.92 and it's just something 00:12:33.95\00:12:36.05 that is so wonderful to read the Bible 00:12:36.08\00:12:37.65 and learn this for yourself. 00:12:37.69\00:12:39.15 It is. It is. 00:12:39.19\00:12:40.96 It truly is. 00:12:40.99\00:12:42.59 And I think that's what keeps people the fact that 00:12:42.62\00:12:44.89 it's not something that you were just taught 00:12:44.93\00:12:46.73 and to memorize, it's something 00:12:46.76\00:12:49.00 that's in your heart. 00:12:49.03\00:12:50.73 And when trials come, 00:12:50.77\00:12:52.67 you've got something to fall back on 00:12:52.70\00:12:54.40 because you got a relationship and that my lady is 00:12:54.44\00:12:57.01 what we're gonna talk to you about 00:12:57.04\00:12:58.37 because you were kind of the lynchpin 00:12:58.41\00:13:00.01 for this whole thing. 00:13:00.04\00:13:01.38 And it kind of all flows out from a burdened that you had-- 00:13:01.41\00:13:04.51 a lot of stuff going on all at the same time, 00:13:04.55\00:13:06.55 we're gonna connected -- with this 00:13:06.58\00:13:08.05 because and God often uses tragedy 00:13:08.08\00:13:11.72 particularly tragedy heaped upon tragedy 00:13:11.75\00:13:14.32 to get his people to move off of death center 00:13:14.36\00:13:17.23 and do what he wants them to do. 00:13:17.26\00:13:19.96 Let's go to our music and then we'll come back 00:13:20.00\00:13:21.33 and sort of unpack the story 'cause I want to talk 00:13:21.36\00:13:23.23 with you specifically Barbara, and kind of get this thing 00:13:23.26\00:13:25.17 whole scene started. 00:13:25.20\00:13:26.53 Our music today comes from Gayle Jones Murphy, 00:13:26.57\00:13:28.37 great friend of this ministry, great personal friend 00:13:28.40\00:13:30.94 and she's gonna be doing pray Prelude in G 00:13:30.97\00:13:35.28 and Great is Thy faithfulness. 00:13:35.31\00:13:36.85 Gayle kind of likes to tie all these old things 00:13:36.88\00:13:39.48 and new things together. 00:13:39.51\00:13:40.85 She's a wonderful piano, so wonderful singer 00:13:40.88\00:13:42.25 and really a great Christian friend. 00:13:42.28\00:13:43.92 You're gonna enjoy this. In Cincinnati, all right. 00:20:18.68\00:20:20.95 So some things are beginning to happened 00:20:20.98\00:20:22.32 in your life, Barbara. 00:20:22.35\00:20:23.69 Walk us through what's taking place now 00:20:23.72\00:20:25.32 2007, 2008? 00:20:25.35\00:20:26.86 Okay, well, Don of course became ill 00:20:26.89\00:20:29.52 which broke up his family 00:20:29.56\00:20:31.79 and we eventually brought him home 00:20:31.83\00:20:34.50 and while he's home 00:20:34.53\00:20:37.33 he's in and out of the hospital. 00:20:37.37\00:20:39.60 And so of course we're going-- my husband 00:20:39.63\00:20:41.44 and I are going back and forth to the hospital 00:20:41.47\00:20:43.84 and then he has an amputation of the first leg, 00:20:43.87\00:20:47.01 and then he's in rehab for 60 some odd days 00:20:47.04\00:20:51.45 coming home on the 8th of October, 00:20:51.48\00:20:55.32 the 9th of October, the very next day 00:20:55.35\00:20:58.05 my husband is hit by a car right in front of our house, 00:20:58.09\00:21:03.39 lands on his head because he was thrown, 00:21:03.43\00:21:05.83 in a coma for 21 days and dies. 00:21:05.86\00:21:09.33 And so we start November with a funeral. 00:21:09.36\00:21:13.37 And then, you know, lot of things happened 00:21:13.40\00:21:16.54 during that time, Don is trying to recuperate, 00:21:16.57\00:21:19.07 I'm trying to adjust being a widow. 00:21:19.11\00:21:22.14 And a friend of mine moved 00:21:22.18\00:21:23.75 into a retirement facility for assisted living 00:21:23.78\00:21:27.78 and I said, I got to do something different. 00:21:27.82\00:21:29.98 Don still in the hospital, so I go visit her 00:21:30.02\00:21:33.42 and just as I'm leaving she says to me Barbara, 00:21:33.46\00:21:37.13 I like this facility but I miss going to church. 00:21:37.16\00:21:41.53 And there is no Protestant service nearby or here. 00:21:41.56\00:21:45.33 And I hear myself saying that's something I can do. 00:21:45.37\00:21:48.87 Now I want to just put a pin there for a second 00:21:48.90\00:21:50.87 because I want to look at the mass of things 00:21:50.91\00:21:53.38 that are swirling around you at this time. 00:21:53.41\00:21:55.41 You just lost your husband well, a little bit ago, 00:21:55.44\00:21:58.25 your son is in and out of stuff. 00:21:58.28\00:22:00.02 I mean, he just lost one leg and you got enough sanity 00:22:00.05\00:22:04.49 and enough Jesus to think about 00:22:04.52\00:22:08.09 taking on another task you know-- 00:22:08.12\00:22:10.59 Something different. Yeah, to do something. 00:22:10.63\00:22:12.29 Was it, was it that you just wanted to do 00:22:12.33\00:22:14.56 something different or did it 00:22:14.60\00:22:16.97 appeal to you particularly, 00:22:17.00\00:22:19.27 were you working in the church at this time. 00:22:19.30\00:22:21.00 Give me some flavor of your life, you know-- 00:22:21.04\00:22:22.40 No, I had been going on Share Him trip 00:22:22.44\00:22:24.97 once a year up to that period and I had missed that. 00:22:25.01\00:22:30.25 And I really wasn't involved in the local church 00:22:30.28\00:22:32.98 because of all it was going on in our family. 00:22:33.01\00:22:35.28 So I wasn't serving in any offices at the time. 00:22:35.32\00:22:39.12 But it was like, you know, I can do this. 00:22:39.15\00:22:41.32 Yeah. 00:22:41.36\00:22:42.69 And so the time set was in the evening 00:22:42.72\00:22:47.10 and you know, at 6 o'clock on Sunday evening 00:22:47.13\00:22:49.66 we were watching 60 minutes. 00:22:49.70\00:22:53.37 We can certainly give that up. 00:22:53.40\00:22:55.00 Right, so you know, it doesn't mess up my Sunday 00:22:55.04\00:22:58.27 because I have always had, since kids 00:22:58.31\00:23:00.38 I've said Sabbath is the Lord's day 00:23:00.41\00:23:02.44 and Sunday is Barbara's. 00:23:02.48\00:23:04.58 So I really didn't do a whole lot on Sunday 00:23:04.61\00:23:07.05 but by six in the evening you know, 00:23:07.08\00:23:08.78 anything you gonna do, you are done. 00:23:08.82\00:23:10.19 You are done, sure. 00:23:10.22\00:23:11.55 So, you know, I can give an hour. 00:23:11.59\00:23:13.32 Did you know what you were signing on for as far as-- 00:23:13.36\00:23:16.22 I didn't think so, yeah. 00:23:16.26\00:23:17.89 No. 00:23:17.93\00:23:19.26 Usually when the Lord throws you in the deep end 00:23:19.29\00:23:20.80 like that you-- you swim on a fly. 00:23:20.83\00:23:22.70 No. 00:23:22.73\00:23:24.07 So someone says I want you to do this 00:23:24.10\00:23:26.10 and you say, I can do that. 00:23:26.13\00:23:27.70 So walk-- pick it up from there. 00:23:27.74\00:23:29.07 So with the activity leader 00:23:29.10\00:23:30.64 and she was delighted to know that someone 00:23:30.67\00:23:32.51 would come every Sunday night and do a service. 00:23:32.54\00:23:36.85 And so I went to the hospital 00:23:36.88\00:23:39.41 and he was getting out of the hospital, 00:23:39.45\00:23:40.92 the Friday before Palm Sunday and I said to him, 00:23:40.95\00:23:46.15 you got to get out of here because we are gonna do 00:23:46.19\00:23:47.79 a church service on Sunday. 00:23:47.82\00:23:49.56 Okay, now I didn't hear any request being made. 00:23:49.59\00:23:52.36 Rather so, get out of hospital because we got something to do. 00:23:52.39\00:23:54.56 Well, I told her is like 00:23:54.60\00:23:56.10 as long as you preach that's fine, 00:23:56.13\00:23:58.20 I will do some singing, I can do that 00:23:58.23\00:24:00.27 and we didn't have a sound system at that time 00:24:00.30\00:24:03.00 but I told her I can do the preliminaries, 00:24:03.04\00:24:05.21 I can lead out in song service but she's got to preach 00:24:05.24\00:24:08.31 because I'm not a preacher, at least not them I'm now. 00:24:08.34\00:24:11.68 But anyway so that was our, 00:24:11.71\00:24:15.58 that was our introduction into ministry for singers. 00:24:15.62\00:24:20.92 Praise the Lord. 00:24:20.96\00:24:22.29 So now having done some Share Him stuff 00:24:22.32\00:24:24.33 obviously standing behind the desk is not a big deal. 00:24:24.36\00:24:25.79 No, it's not a problem. 00:24:25.83\00:24:27.16 So you've got little handle on that. 00:24:27.20\00:24:28.76 But our mindset was one that we are gonna do this 00:24:28.80\00:24:31.77 church service and two, we are gonna plant 00:24:31.80\00:24:35.20 an Adventist church in this facility. 00:24:35.24\00:24:37.71 That was the mindset and the Lord had grown us 00:24:37.74\00:24:42.28 and show us exactly what He wanted us to do. 00:24:42.31\00:24:44.85 Yeah, yeah, he does want you to lift up His name. 00:24:44.88\00:24:46.21 So actually we'd been there for, 00:24:46.25\00:24:48.48 you know, we started Palm Sunday, 00:24:48.52\00:24:49.88 we've gone through the month 00:24:49.92\00:24:51.25 and now on the first Sunday he is coming up 00:24:51.29\00:24:53.36 and he is like Barbara, these folk haven't, 00:24:53.39\00:24:55.42 many of them had not had communion 00:24:55.46\00:24:57.33 since they had gone to their churches last 00:24:57.36\00:25:00.50 and which could be years or months or weeks 00:25:00.53\00:25:04.53 and so we got to have a communion service. 00:25:04.57\00:25:07.50 Well, how do you have a communion service 00:25:07.54\00:25:10.14 with two people, one in a wheelchair 00:25:10.17\00:25:12.91 with no service perse and so we called on Eva 00:25:12.94\00:25:18.48 who was our head deacon and elder to our church 00:25:18.51\00:25:20.62 and they said we want to do communion for Sunday 00:25:20.65\00:25:24.09 and would you help us? 00:25:24.12\00:25:25.45 So the plot thickens. 00:25:25.49\00:25:26.82 Let me ask you a question here. 00:25:26.86\00:25:28.19 Because you have given evidence 00:25:28.22\00:25:30.26 that you are a bit of rebellious kid. 00:25:30.29\00:25:31.93 Yes. Okay. 00:25:31.96\00:25:33.29 Your mom kind of drops us on you 00:25:33.33\00:25:34.66 and mother step away kind of turn in the screw without, 00:25:34.70\00:25:36.60 you know, just-- this is what we are gonna do. 00:25:36.63\00:25:39.57 Well, you kind of kicking and screaming doing this 00:25:39.60\00:25:41.80 or you kind of settling into this? 00:25:41.84\00:25:43.20 No, I was settling in but my mindset was that 00:25:43.24\00:25:46.68 this was her ministry, 00:25:46.71\00:25:48.11 I will just come along and support. 00:25:48.14\00:25:49.98 Okay, okay. Yeah, so it's her show. 00:25:50.01\00:25:52.71 She preaches, I will just do music 00:25:52.75\00:25:56.58 and but I'm in the background. 00:25:56.62\00:25:59.05 Yeah, and that's what it was supposed to be 00:25:59.09\00:26:01.79 but the Lord had other plans. 00:26:01.82\00:26:03.59 And so the name Barbara, Tanglewood 00:26:03.63\00:26:05.56 comes from this very first facility. 00:26:05.59\00:26:06.93 The name of the facility was Tanglewood Trace 00:26:06.96\00:26:09.86 and it's located on Tanglewood Lane. 00:26:09.90\00:26:12.50 I see. 00:26:12.53\00:26:13.87 So that's why we are Tanglewood. 00:26:13.90\00:26:15.24 Okay. 00:26:15.27\00:26:16.60 So Ms. Eva, you get this call. 00:26:16.64\00:26:18.87 What are you thinking? 00:26:18.91\00:26:20.38 Well, we thought we come once, 00:26:20.41\00:26:22.51 we were kind of involved in another ministry in church. 00:26:22.54\00:26:26.08 And so I said to my husband, 00:26:26.11\00:26:28.95 let's go once and I called the other couple up 00:26:28.98\00:26:31.25 and I said we are gonna go help Barb and Don 00:26:31.29\00:26:33.25 and the woman said, okay, you know, 00:26:33.29\00:26:37.93 and so once famous last words, we are still there. 00:26:37.96\00:26:43.57 When she kind of drop this on you, Don, 00:26:43.60\00:26:45.43 what's going through your mind? 00:26:45.47\00:26:47.44 He mean, Bob. 00:26:47.47\00:26:48.80 I said Don, I meant Bob. Yeah, Don, Bob. 00:26:48.84\00:26:50.97 Right. That's fine. 00:26:51.01\00:26:52.61 I thought the same thing that Eva did. 00:26:52.64\00:26:54.44 We would go there, you know, one time 00:26:54.48\00:26:55.81 but once you go and you meet these people 00:26:55.84\00:26:58.61 and you get involved in a word and you see how involved 00:26:58.65\00:27:02.92 they are and how its helping them, 00:27:02.95\00:27:05.49 you look forward to going there. 00:27:05.52\00:27:06.86 I know there has been times 00:27:06.89\00:27:08.89 for some reason maybe I was sick or Eva was sick 00:27:08.92\00:27:11.46 that we couldn't go and we felt lost 00:27:11.49\00:27:14.46 because we weren't there to be able to help out. 00:27:14.50\00:27:16.90 I mean, Don and Barbara do a lot of the preaching 00:27:16.93\00:27:21.10 and we have another young man does the preaching. 00:27:21.14\00:27:24.61 So I'm not a preacher but like I say, 00:27:24.64\00:27:26.44 if there is anything I can do, I like to help up. 00:27:26.47\00:27:28.31 Yeah. Yeah. 00:27:28.34\00:27:29.68 Now you said you were involved in another ministry 00:27:29.71\00:27:31.05 so you're obviously doing things in a local church. 00:27:31.08\00:27:32.75 You are the head deacon? Yes, certainly. 00:27:32.78\00:27:34.58 Were you holding helping Bob? 00:27:34.62\00:27:37.12 Yes, I'm assistant head deacon in our church. 00:27:37.15\00:27:39.49 Okay, so you are not sitting down, 00:27:39.52\00:27:40.86 you are doing stuff? 00:27:40.89\00:27:42.22 Right. We try. 00:27:42.26\00:27:43.86 And this is added to-- Barbara I need to ask you, 00:27:43.89\00:27:47.76 you are coming into a facility, you got one Adventist there 00:27:47.80\00:27:50.57 but what was the general reception? 00:27:50.60\00:27:53.40 No, we don't have an Adventist that we know about it. 00:27:53.44\00:27:55.80 The lady is a friend of mine 00:27:55.84\00:27:58.11 but she is not the Seventh-day Adventist. 00:27:58.14\00:27:59.71 Oh, okay. I see. 00:27:59.74\00:28:01.58 And so the reception was well. 00:28:01.61\00:28:04.88 The first night we met we had 30 residents who came. 00:28:04.91\00:28:10.32 And of course, they didn't know us 00:28:10.35\00:28:12.52 and we didn't know them 00:28:12.55\00:28:14.36 and we are trying to do this full fledge church service. 00:28:14.39\00:28:17.33 So you are doing a song service 00:28:17.36\00:28:18.69 and then praise God for more-- 00:28:18.73\00:28:20.06 Praise God. We are going to every-- 00:28:20.10\00:28:22.80 No children's story but-- 00:28:22.83\00:28:24.47 They are doing everything-- 00:28:24.50\00:28:25.83 Yeah, no children story. 00:28:25.87\00:28:27.20 Except in offering. 00:28:27.24\00:28:28.57 Because we didn't want their children 00:28:28.60\00:28:30.11 who most of them have probably turned before. 00:28:30.14\00:28:32.84 We didn't want them to think that 00:28:32.87\00:28:34.21 we had come to take their money. 00:28:34.24\00:28:35.58 To take money, sure. Sure. 00:28:35.61\00:28:36.95 So we have never collected an offering. 00:28:36.98\00:28:39.55 Now it is kind of hard to get that whole deal into-- 00:28:39.58\00:28:42.58 You had an hour? Correct. 00:28:42.62\00:28:44.09 So you are spending a lot of the time 00:28:44.12\00:28:46.35 just doing kind of Adventist kind of things. 00:28:46.39\00:28:48.16 Yeah. Exactly. 00:28:48.19\00:28:49.52 Yeah. 00:28:49.56\00:28:50.89 And then it became apparent that 00:28:50.93\00:28:52.36 we needed to change the format. 00:28:52.39\00:28:54.20 You had to trim it down. 00:28:54.23\00:28:55.56 And so now the service consists of, 00:28:55.60\00:28:58.00 they love to sing the hymns so we spend time on the hymns, 00:28:58.03\00:29:01.87 we spend time in prayer request and prayer. 00:29:01.90\00:29:04.21 Amen. 00:29:04.24\00:29:05.57 We spend time in special music 00:29:05.61\00:29:08.44 and Eva about three times out of the month 00:29:08.48\00:29:12.38 would do a health nugget. 00:29:12.41\00:29:14.15 And then the main portion is the word 00:29:14.18\00:29:17.99 and even with that we-- the Lord has grown us. 00:29:18.02\00:29:21.59 Yes. 00:29:21.62\00:29:22.96 The challenges and you may want to talk about them later 00:29:22.99\00:29:26.70 but oftentimes people aren't 00:29:26.73\00:29:28.23 very familiar with their Bibles. 00:29:28.26\00:29:30.83 The other challenge was that we bought 00:29:30.87\00:29:33.20 what we thought were a large print Bibles 00:29:33.23\00:29:35.17 that were at large print. 00:29:35.20\00:29:36.54 Yeah. Yeah. 00:29:36.57\00:29:37.91 As I get older what my definition of large 00:29:37.94\00:29:39.74 gets bigger and bigger and bigger. 00:29:39.77\00:29:41.11 I just bought one about a month ago 00:29:41.14\00:29:42.61 that it's a super giant print. 00:29:42.64\00:29:44.21 Yes, and that's what we are using. 00:29:44.25\00:29:45.78 So we had to grow into seeing enough 00:29:45.81\00:29:48.95 the first set of Bibles that we bought, 00:29:48.98\00:29:51.62 we came to 3ABN in the spring, met some folk here 00:29:51.65\00:29:56.52 and we are just sharing what we were doing 00:29:56.56\00:29:58.79 and they gave us $200 toward our first set of Bibles. 00:29:58.83\00:30:03.37 Praise God. 00:30:03.40\00:30:04.73 And that was the beginning. 00:30:04.77\00:30:06.27 Since then our church have switched with us. 00:30:06.30\00:30:10.41 They bought larger print Bibles 00:30:10.44\00:30:12.47 and we have given them the original Bibles. 00:30:12.51\00:30:15.81 And so now we have the biggest printed Bibles 00:30:15.84\00:30:18.58 that you can get and they are really heavy. 00:30:18.61\00:30:21.28 Yes. Yes. 00:30:21.32\00:30:22.65 So which has presented some other challenges. 00:30:22.68\00:30:24.49 So when we do our church service 00:30:24.52\00:30:26.65 we have a table in front of the residence, 00:30:26.69\00:30:29.62 so that they don't have to hold this heavy Bibles. 00:30:29.66\00:30:32.73 Yeah, my newest one that I got about two months ago 00:30:32.76\00:30:35.60 now it's weighty. 00:30:35.63\00:30:37.17 I only use it on the pulpit on Sabbath 00:30:37.20\00:30:38.93 because I need to catch, you know, quicker. 00:30:38.97\00:30:40.30 My study Bible is-- 00:30:40.34\00:30:42.07 I wear glasses and struggle a little bit. 00:30:42.10\00:30:43.67 I wanted to ask you, Eva, you are in a facility 00:30:43.71\00:30:47.21 they don't always have control over 00:30:47.24\00:30:49.38 what they are eating or what's put before them. 00:30:49.41\00:30:51.41 What are the kinds of-- how do you structure 00:30:51.45\00:30:53.55 your health nuggets to be of value to that group? 00:30:53.58\00:30:57.32 I did focusing, excuse me-- 00:30:57.35\00:30:59.35 I did focusing on more or less the breathing 00:30:59.39\00:31:02.62 because we've had several people 00:31:02.66\00:31:04.46 that have come up 00:31:04.49\00:31:05.83 and had gone to the hospital with pneumonia. 00:31:05.86\00:31:08.80 And so I had learned that by taking deep breathes 00:31:08.83\00:31:12.57 and I say smell a rose and blow out a candle 00:31:12.60\00:31:15.97 and the people just love it 00:31:16.00\00:31:17.87 and they say, keep reminding us. 00:31:17.91\00:31:20.31 They sent one gentleman who was having pneumonia 00:31:20.34\00:31:23.61 quite often in the hospital came to me 00:31:23.65\00:31:25.65 and said, Eva, I have to tell you something. 00:31:25.68\00:31:27.78 And I said what, Larry? 00:31:27.82\00:31:29.15 And he said, I haven't had pneumonia 00:31:29.18\00:31:30.89 and my doctor told me my lungs are the clearest 00:31:30.92\00:31:32.79 they have ever been. 00:31:32.82\00:31:34.16 And then we tell them to exercise their arms 00:31:34.19\00:31:36.52 and their legs, you know, and I tell them 00:31:36.56\00:31:39.49 if you can walk, walk the halls, 00:31:39.53\00:31:42.16 if you can't just sit in a chair. 00:31:42.20\00:31:45.03 We kind of-- I don't know 00:31:45.07\00:31:47.14 whether I'm allowed to say this but we got Dick Nunez. 00:31:47.17\00:31:51.91 You are. 00:31:51.94\00:31:54.71 We have DVDs of Dick Nunez and we have showed them 00:31:54.74\00:31:58.91 some of his exercises for seniors in a chair. 00:31:58.95\00:32:02.02 And so, you know, they appreciate this 00:32:02.05\00:32:04.22 and they helped us. 00:32:04.25\00:32:05.62 And then of course I don't know 00:32:05.65\00:32:07.86 whether I'm allowed to say this either 00:32:07.89\00:32:09.22 but I have reversed my diabetes. 00:32:09.26\00:32:12.09 And so I kind of give them 00:32:12.13\00:32:15.26 some of my helpful hands that I have done. 00:32:15.30\00:32:17.07 Yeah, you are allowed to say that too. 00:32:17.10\00:32:18.43 Yes, okay. Oh, thank you. 00:32:18.47\00:32:20.50 And so it kind of makes a little bit easier for me 00:32:20.54\00:32:22.84 because I can say I did this and I did that. 00:32:22.87\00:32:25.71 And I have had a couple of people 00:32:25.74\00:32:27.08 that are diabetics there. 00:32:27.11\00:32:29.08 And so what did you do with this, Eva? 00:32:29.11\00:32:31.71 What did you do with that 00:32:31.75\00:32:33.08 and I can kind of help them a little bit. 00:32:33.11\00:32:35.28 Then when I tell them the curriculum to drink 00:32:35.32\00:32:37.19 lot of water and try to get sunlight. 00:32:37.22\00:32:40.02 You know, when they can get outside 00:32:40.06\00:32:41.39 and I said, even if you can't get sun through the window 00:32:41.42\00:32:44.23 because it's still sun 00:32:44.26\00:32:45.83 and it's still the vitamin D, you know. 00:32:45.86\00:32:47.93 So it makes it interesting and I enjoy doing that. 00:32:47.96\00:32:51.17 Bob, we know you are kind of, you are kind of the energy, 00:32:51.20\00:32:54.14 the founder, the driving force you came in reluctantly. 00:32:54.17\00:32:58.94 Talk to me about your growth 00:32:58.97\00:33:01.38 and you being settled in this 00:33:01.41\00:33:03.45 as a calling from God on your life? 00:33:03.48\00:33:06.95 Well, as we started to minister, 00:33:06.98\00:33:10.29 as we got into the first two years, 00:33:10.32\00:33:12.45 you know, again we were looking at, 00:33:12.49\00:33:13.89 you know, this is her ministry I'm just here to support. 00:33:13.92\00:33:17.23 And then thinking about, 00:33:17.26\00:33:20.40 you know, I don't want to be doing this 00:33:20.43\00:33:23.37 in five years or so 00:33:23.40\00:33:25.37 and that was kind of the attitude 00:33:25.40\00:33:27.37 and interestingly with that attitude 00:33:27.40\00:33:29.94 we also noticed a declining-- attendance. 00:33:29.97\00:33:36.14 We dropped from averaging 14 or 15 down to five. 00:33:36.18\00:33:41.45 We got down to five. 00:33:41.48\00:33:43.35 Now let me correct now, this is your mindset or both. 00:33:43.39\00:33:46.72 This is what's going on in your head? 00:33:46.76\00:33:48.19 This was mine. Okay. 00:33:48.22\00:33:49.56 So you are in, I mean, you are in 00:33:49.59\00:33:51.79 but you are kind of saying I'm here for now 00:33:51.83\00:33:53.86 but I'm not, this is not gonna be part of my life. 00:33:53.90\00:33:55.90 Exactly, and the Lord reminded me, 00:33:55.93\00:33:58.70 He is like Don, I thought you said that 00:33:58.73\00:34:01.74 you would keep your eyes on Me and follow Me 00:34:01.77\00:34:04.27 because that was a part of my conversion. 00:34:04.31\00:34:06.17 Lord coming and say Don, get your eyes off all the things 00:34:06.21\00:34:08.88 that you've lost, getting focus on Me, follow me 00:34:08.91\00:34:12.58 and I said yes Lord, I will do that. 00:34:12.61\00:34:14.48 So He reminded me of that, 00:34:14.52\00:34:15.85 so I was like okay, Lord, I will do this. 00:34:15.88\00:34:18.59 But interestingly we-- 00:34:18.62\00:34:22.06 I had actually been watching 00:34:22.09\00:34:23.56 a 3ABN today program with Hiram Rester 00:34:23.59\00:34:27.10 and he was telling about how he had done 00:34:27.13\00:34:31.63 maybe 70 evangelistic meetings 00:34:31.67\00:34:36.54 and after all of that the Lord told him 00:34:36.57\00:34:39.11 okay, now you have done all of this, 00:34:39.14\00:34:41.01 start preaching Jesus. Start preaching Christ. 00:34:41.04\00:34:43.04 Yes. 00:34:43.08\00:34:44.41 And I saw that it was like, what you mean preaching? 00:34:44.45\00:34:47.75 He says, he's been preaching Jesus the whole time. 00:34:47.78\00:34:50.59 And Hiram said, I had been using 00:34:50.62\00:34:54.92 the doctrines to preach Jesus 00:34:54.96\00:34:57.56 instead of focusing on Jesus to teach the doctrines. 00:34:57.59\00:35:02.03 And so that was a total blowing away 00:35:02.06\00:35:08.20 of my mindset as far as how we were to be doing this. 00:35:08.24\00:35:11.87 And that's when I really started 00:35:11.91\00:35:13.74 getting onboard with this 00:35:13.78\00:35:15.11 and say okay, Lord, teach us, show us what to do? 00:35:15.14\00:35:18.71 And our speaker Charles who had come in by that time 00:35:18.75\00:35:23.75 started taking over the speaking 00:35:23.79\00:35:26.79 and our focus since that time has been lifting up Jesus. 00:35:26.82\00:35:32.56 What does the Bible tell us about God's character, 00:35:32.59\00:35:35.90 you know, based on the foundational truth 00:35:35.93\00:35:37.53 that God is love. 00:35:37.57\00:35:38.90 So that's what we are focusing 00:35:38.93\00:35:41.00 our sermon presentations, our music everything 00:35:41.04\00:35:44.77 is focused around lifting up Jesus 00:35:44.81\00:35:47.01 because He said, He would draw. 00:35:47.04\00:35:50.15 We were trying to preach the doctrines turning them 00:35:50.18\00:35:53.21 "the Seventh-day Adventist" and we were losing them. 00:35:53.25\00:35:58.69 We were losing them. Yeah. 00:35:58.72\00:36:00.22 We were heading up-- 00:36:00.26\00:36:01.59 And I see very clearly that you want to hit that home run, 00:36:01.62\00:36:05.96 you want to just, you want to get baptisms, 00:36:05.99\00:36:07.76 you want to but you got to introduce them to Christ. 00:36:07.80\00:36:10.37 I need to ask you Barbara, did you know, 00:36:10.40\00:36:12.53 you are sold out, you went into the deep end. 00:36:12.57\00:36:14.57 Did you know he was toeing the water? 00:36:14.60\00:36:16.54 Yeah, he had already told me that I'm gonna be an, 00:36:16.57\00:36:19.37 I'm gonna do it short while and I'm gonna be gone. 00:36:19.41\00:36:22.11 But the other thing that happens 00:36:22.14\00:36:24.28 that we did not anticipate. 00:36:24.31\00:36:26.95 We have fallen in love with this folk. 00:36:26.98\00:36:30.15 And if we had to choose going to church on Sabbath 00:36:30.19\00:36:35.89 or being with our group Sunday night 00:36:35.92\00:36:38.06 for the hugs and the kisses 00:36:38.09\00:36:40.10 and the time to have to pray with people 00:36:40.13\00:36:42.10 we would probably choose and I say that. 00:36:42.13\00:36:44.90 And I can understand the mindset 00:36:44.93\00:36:46.27 because yeah, you are doing something for the-- 00:36:46.30\00:36:47.67 And we are, you know, Don's got so many grandmas now 00:36:47.70\00:36:51.67 that are just 11 and they look so much forward. 00:36:51.71\00:36:57.31 The hugs and the kisses and the opportunity to pray 00:36:57.35\00:37:00.25 and then the Lord has expanded us 00:37:00.28\00:37:03.02 because these folk are not just coming 00:37:03.05\00:37:05.82 to this facility from their homes 00:37:05.85\00:37:08.29 and staying there until they die 00:37:08.32\00:37:09.86 which is what we thought because its private pay, 00:37:09.89\00:37:14.93 health change or finances change 00:37:14.96\00:37:18.10 and they are out of there. 00:37:18.13\00:37:19.47 They are gone, okay, okay. 00:37:19.50\00:37:20.84 And we facetiously made the commitment to follow them 00:37:20.87\00:37:25.07 wherever they go not thinking they were going anywhere. 00:37:25.11\00:37:29.08 And we now have people in Rushville, Indiana 00:37:29.11\00:37:32.01 and we have them in Elkhart, Indiana. 00:37:32.05\00:37:34.02 We have and we are literally doing visitation 00:37:34.05\00:37:37.95 at least once a quarter trying to get around 00:37:37.99\00:37:40.09 to people who have left and it's just gotten so many 00:37:40.12\00:37:45.19 that it opened another avenue of mailers. 00:37:45.23\00:37:48.83 We now send, we do the sermon outline 00:37:48.86\00:37:51.90 because the facility 00:37:51.93\00:37:53.34 you are not supposed to pass out anything 00:37:53.37\00:37:55.50 but because we do the service there 00:37:55.54\00:37:57.94 we can give them Christian literature. 00:37:57.97\00:38:00.88 And so we now print our sermon outlines 00:38:00.91\00:38:03.81 and this week we mailed 180 sermon outlines. 00:38:03.85\00:38:08.58 Some of them are getting as far as Australia. 00:38:08.62\00:38:12.35 We've got people who take our sermon outlines 00:38:12.39\00:38:14.32 and use them weekly in prison ministry 00:38:14.36\00:38:18.59 as well as we've added some missing members, 00:38:18.63\00:38:21.83 many of Don's classmates who grew up with him, 00:38:21.86\00:38:24.50 went to church school are out of church, 00:38:24.53\00:38:26.94 they are on our mailing list 00:38:26.97\00:38:28.30 and unless they ask us not to send them 00:38:28.34\00:38:30.81 which they haven't asked they get a sermon every week. 00:38:30.84\00:38:34.08 So the ministry really has grown. 00:38:34.11\00:38:35.44 Yes. 00:38:35.48\00:38:36.81 And I was sat down with the mindset that 00:38:36.85\00:38:39.21 these are people like a nursing home facility, this is not. 00:38:39.25\00:38:41.85 No. 00:38:41.88\00:38:43.22 This population is little more transit. 00:38:43.25\00:38:44.59 They come, they stay a while and they leave. 00:38:44.62\00:38:46.09 They are private retirees and they are paying 00:38:46.12\00:38:50.93 some good bucks to be where they are 00:38:50.96\00:38:53.73 but if their health changes or finally finances, 00:38:53.76\00:38:57.90 you know, $3,000-$4,000 a month so that a lot of money. 00:38:57.93\00:39:01.87 Yes, yes. Yes. 00:39:01.90\00:39:03.24 What we found though is that in many of these facilities 00:39:03.27\00:39:06.44 there is not spiritual care 00:39:06.47\00:39:08.08 as far as churches coming in to do services. 00:39:08.11\00:39:10.08 I understand yeah. 00:39:10.11\00:39:11.55 So unless the local church, you know, Methodist, Baptist 00:39:11.58\00:39:15.15 or whoever will come and pick them up 00:39:15.18\00:39:17.69 they are not getting to service. 00:39:17.72\00:39:19.12 There is only one church organization that's coming in 00:39:19.15\00:39:22.66 and that's our Catholic friends. 00:39:22.69\00:39:24.03 Right. Right 00:39:24.06\00:39:25.39 There is no Protestant. No Protestants. 00:39:25.43\00:39:26.76 Very few Protestants and there is a need 00:39:26.80\00:39:29.63 at every facility to do church-- 00:39:29.66\00:39:33.20 Yes, everywhere-- I'm gonna say everywhere 00:39:33.23\00:39:36.60 we visit we get asked, would you come 00:39:36.64\00:39:39.77 and do it at my facility. 00:39:39.81\00:39:42.41 So we are now at three facilities. 00:39:42.44\00:39:44.25 Wow, I just says the Lord by default is making you grow. 00:39:44.28\00:39:46.82 Yes. Yes. 00:39:46.85\00:39:48.18 But we need-- 00:39:48.22\00:39:49.55 And we ask them to do that 00:39:49.58\00:39:50.92 this year grow us, you know, more. 00:39:50.95\00:39:52.29 But the need is so great, 00:39:52.32\00:39:53.66 not so much for regular nursing home 00:39:53.69\00:39:55.56 but for the retirement facilities 00:39:55.59\00:39:57.66 that are popping up all over 00:39:57.69\00:39:59.59 and for the memory care facilities that in our area 00:39:59.63\00:40:03.06 they are building them like, I don't know what. 00:40:03.10\00:40:05.67 Yeah. Yeah. 00:40:05.70\00:40:07.04 They are private pay and those facilities 00:40:07.07\00:40:10.27 could easily have a group go in week after week 00:40:10.31\00:40:14.51 and share the good news for God. 00:40:14.54\00:40:15.88 Now, walk me again through because the Lord made it 00:40:15.91\00:40:18.25 apparent to you that having 00:40:18.28\00:40:19.95 a classic Adventist worship service 00:40:19.98\00:40:22.48 was not gonna fly in this context. 00:40:22.52\00:40:24.35 So he whittled it down if you were 00:40:24.39\00:40:28.49 to those four elements. 00:40:28.52\00:40:29.96 Give in those elements again. 00:40:29.99\00:40:31.33 All right, we sing hymns. You sing. 00:40:31.36\00:40:33.09 They love the hymns. 00:40:33.13\00:40:36.30 We have prayer time 00:40:36.33\00:40:37.90 which we entertain prayer request and then pray. 00:40:37.93\00:40:40.44 Indispensable. 00:40:40.47\00:40:41.80 And then we have Eva does the health talk. 00:40:41.84\00:40:46.07 We have special music. Yes. 00:40:46.11\00:40:48.24 We have a young lady who has also joined us 00:40:48.28\00:40:50.08 and she occasionally sings and she and Don trade off. 00:40:50.11\00:40:53.92 And then we have the sermon 00:40:53.95\00:40:55.38 and then I always do an appeal song. 00:40:55.42\00:40:57.59 Now I came up with Elder Rainey 00:40:57.62\00:40:59.52 and you remembered traditionally 00:40:59.55\00:41:01.32 that appeal song always sort of solidified with the sermon. 00:41:01.36\00:41:05.73 And that's a gift God has given me. 00:41:05.76\00:41:08.30 So I usually pick a hymn 00:41:08.33\00:41:11.13 that goes with the message of the day. 00:41:11.17\00:41:14.67 Which is a challenge for us because before, 00:41:14.70\00:41:17.74 you know, say, I'm gonna sing this tonight, that's out. 00:41:17.77\00:41:20.61 Yeah. 00:41:20.64\00:41:21.98 Spending time in prayer. 00:41:22.01\00:41:23.35 Lord, what would you have me to sing that 00:41:23.38\00:41:25.15 goes with this message and the Lord has been 00:41:25.18\00:41:27.98 pulling songs out, you know-- 00:41:28.02\00:41:31.69 And we praise the Lord for that. 00:41:31.72\00:41:33.05 I wanted to bring back 00:41:33.09\00:41:34.42 and kind of hit this from another angle. 00:41:34.46\00:41:35.79 Because you were losing your audience, 00:41:35.82\00:41:37.49 God impressed you that 00:41:37.53\00:41:39.23 this is not gonna fly the way you are doing it. 00:41:39.26\00:41:41.66 You made the change, 00:41:41.70\00:41:43.20 what was the result of that change 00:41:43.23\00:41:44.93 as far as attendance was concerned? 00:41:44.97\00:41:46.30 We say, it just increased. 00:41:46.33\00:41:47.67 The residents are now inviting other residents. 00:41:47.70\00:41:51.44 So we do no advertising. 00:41:51.47\00:41:53.51 Yeah, yeah. 00:41:53.54\00:41:54.88 But and the residents are inviting the residents 00:41:54.91\00:41:58.21 and the other thing that has happened is that 00:41:58.25\00:42:00.58 financially we are no budget ministry. 00:42:00.62\00:42:03.99 We have no budget and no offering. 00:42:04.02\00:42:08.16 Initially I was putting the cost. 00:42:08.19\00:42:11.26 We have sensed we needed the sound system, 00:42:11.29\00:42:13.73 someone gave us enough money to buy it. 00:42:13.76\00:42:16.13 Praise the Lord. 00:42:16.16\00:42:17.50 We now have mikes, we are going 00:42:17.53\00:42:19.67 to probably upgrade to the power mike eventually. 00:42:19.70\00:42:22.97 But we also do birthdays. 00:42:23.00\00:42:25.71 You know, everyone who has a birthday 00:42:25.74\00:42:27.28 we honor that and celebrate 00:42:27.31\00:42:30.05 and we give them a birthday packet. 00:42:30.08\00:42:33.68 And-- oops, excuse me. 00:42:33.72\00:42:35.45 This is an example of the birthday packet 00:42:35.48\00:42:37.72 which is basically and envelope 00:42:37.75\00:42:40.36 and in it we have a 3ABN door hanger. 00:42:40.39\00:42:45.96 Amen. Amen. 00:42:45.99\00:42:47.33 It has Health for Daily Living. 00:42:47.36\00:42:49.50 Praise the Lord. 00:42:49.53\00:42:50.87 It includes a "Steps to Christ." 00:42:50.90\00:42:52.60 Okay, you want to hold that right up in front like, 00:42:52.63\00:42:54.37 there you go, there you go. 00:42:54.40\00:42:55.87 It includes the "Great Hope." 00:42:55.90\00:42:59.04 Okay. 00:42:59.07\00:43:00.41 And sometimes it will either include 00:43:00.44\00:43:03.14 the "Steps to Christ" or one of these 00:43:03.18\00:43:05.61 and then we will gift it with a bunch of these 00:43:05.65\00:43:07.98 from E.G. White Estate and they are on various topics. 00:43:08.02\00:43:11.02 This one is happiness service. 00:43:11.05\00:43:13.22 Praise the Lord. 00:43:13.25\00:43:14.59 And then we always include fresh fruit. 00:43:14.62\00:43:17.03 Oh, nice. Nice. 00:43:17.06\00:43:18.39 So whatever is in season or orange or apple 00:43:18.43\00:43:21.36 or whatever couple of pieces and a go track. 00:43:21.40\00:43:24.03 And a go track. So this is the birthday bag. 00:43:24.07\00:43:25.87 Well, done. Well, done. 00:43:25.90\00:43:27.54 Now I want to go back and I'm begging a point 00:43:27.57\00:43:30.07 because I want our people to understand, 00:43:30.11\00:43:31.97 you were losing your audience then you change something 00:43:32.01\00:43:36.64 and now your audience is coming back. 00:43:36.68\00:43:39.21 Tell me in a sentence what that change was. 00:43:39.25\00:43:42.98 The change was not emphasizing doctrines, 00:43:43.02\00:43:46.89 but lifting up Jesus. 00:43:46.92\00:43:48.26 There you go. You are great. 00:43:48.29\00:43:49.62 I told, you are great. You are great, yes. 00:43:49.66\00:43:51.06 So then the default setting is that 00:43:51.09\00:43:52.76 when you live for Christ, Christ will draw. 00:43:52.79\00:43:55.50 Amen. Eva? 00:43:55.53\00:43:58.33 I had found and I think I just want 00:43:58.37\00:43:59.93 to add in there Bob and I coming 00:43:59.97\00:44:01.67 out of the Catholic Church I think we were very big help 00:44:01.70\00:44:04.67 because I have got, lo and behold 00:44:04.71\00:44:07.51 we ended up knowing several of the people 00:44:07.54\00:44:10.35 who were there from our previous Catholic Church. 00:44:10.38\00:44:13.75 And so I have had many of the catholic say to me 00:44:13.78\00:44:18.02 but as a catholic can we come to this church service? 00:44:18.05\00:44:21.62 Can we be here? Can we listen to this? 00:44:21.66\00:44:24.29 You know, and as soon as I say to them, 00:44:24.33\00:44:28.70 as soon as I say to them 00:44:28.73\00:44:30.47 we are out of the Catholic Church. 00:44:30.50\00:44:32.33 They just kind of fall in love 00:44:32.37\00:44:33.94 and they say, oh, we can do this then, you know. 00:44:33.97\00:44:36.57 So it makes it easier. 00:44:36.60\00:44:37.94 Amen and amen. 00:44:37.97\00:44:39.31 Now we've got a bunch of pictures 00:44:39.34\00:44:40.68 I want you to walk me through some of these pictures. 00:44:40.71\00:44:42.24 Let's go to our pictures 00:44:42.28\00:44:43.61 and let's walk through the stuff and take a look at 00:44:43.65\00:44:44.98 some of these things that are happening. 00:44:45.01\00:44:46.35 Who is that? That's Pauline. 00:44:46.38\00:44:47.72 That's the lady who started this. 00:44:47.75\00:44:49.22 She is the woman that moved into the facility 00:44:49.25\00:44:52.59 that made the statement, I can't get to my church. 00:44:52.62\00:44:56.62 So this is your friend? Yes, she is the friend. 00:44:56.66\00:44:58.89 And so we kind of think of her as our founder. 00:44:58.93\00:45:02.73 Amen. Amen. 00:45:02.76\00:45:04.10 She has since passed away. Oh, bless her heart. 00:45:04.13\00:45:05.87 Yes, but then you just see some pictures of mom and I 00:45:05.90\00:45:09.84 and we can scroll through. 00:45:09.87\00:45:11.84 This is Bob speaking to her I think they were talking about 00:45:11.87\00:45:15.01 the state of the dead on this one I believe, yeah. 00:45:15.04\00:45:17.95 So you get a chance to minister kind of one on one-- 00:45:17.98\00:45:19.98 Yes. Right, exactly. 00:45:20.02\00:45:21.35 Now is that in that in that same hour or you get-- 00:45:21.38\00:45:23.52 No after or before that.
