That adopted you. 00:11:56.83\00:11:59.15 What is their story, were they wanting to adopt, 00:11:59.18\00:12:01.82 how did they get in touch? 00:12:01.85\00:12:02.89 Tell us about that. 00:12:02.92\00:12:03.96 Well, very interesting. 00:12:03.99\00:12:05.02 They were not raised in the church 00:12:05.05\00:12:06.87 as Seventh-day Adventists and so they came to this church 00:12:06.90\00:12:09.11 and they really appreciated 00:12:09.14\00:12:10.27 and valued the message of the Adventist church so much 00:12:10.30\00:12:13.60 that when they decided they wanted to have children, 00:12:13.63\00:12:16.60 my mom as I understand, had had two miscarriages 00:12:16.63\00:12:19.37 and did not think she was going to be able to have a child. 00:12:19.40\00:12:22.36 But through the working of providence 00:12:22.39\00:12:25.73 there was pastor that they knew, 00:12:25.76\00:12:27.17 another friend that found out about 00:12:27.20\00:12:29.25 this other situation with my biological family 00:12:29.28\00:12:32.67 and agreed to serve as a kind of go-between 00:12:32.70\00:12:35.93 to carry me from one family to the other 00:12:35.96\00:12:39.05 and, so that I could be adopted by pastor Hindman. 00:12:39.08\00:12:43.32 And, it really is just amazing 00:12:43.35\00:12:45.15 because I still have a contact with that person 00:12:45.18\00:12:47.11 that carried me in their arms even today, that pastor. 00:12:47.14\00:12:51.32 So you were adopted two or three years 00:12:51.35\00:12:53.86 after you were born or-- 00:12:53.89\00:12:55.17 I was three days old, as I understand. 00:12:55.20\00:12:56.92 Isn't that amazing? 00:12:56.95\00:12:57.98 It is, it is amazing. 00:12:58.01\00:12:59.05 Amen. 00:12:59.08\00:13:00.15 And, that's again God's perfect timing 00:13:00.18\00:13:02.18 because you're parents now were wanting a child, 00:13:02.21\00:13:06.01 asking God for a child, your biological mom and dad 00:13:06.04\00:13:10.76 weren't so sure what to do, 00:13:10.79\00:13:12.18 they felt they should put you up for adoption, 00:13:12.21\00:13:14.02 and here God place you in this wonderful family. 00:13:14.05\00:13:16.67 Yes, it's just like you say that, 00:13:16.70\00:13:18.31 "All things work together 00:13:18.34\00:13:19.38 for good to them that love Him", 00:13:19.41\00:13:20.86 and the interesting thing also is my, 00:13:20.89\00:13:23.91 when I was adopted by pastor Hindman 00:13:23.94\00:13:26.06 is that about 11 months later they actually did have a child, 00:13:26.09\00:13:31.23 and so I have a sister Kristin 00:13:31.26\00:13:33.45 who is, uh, we're not related obviously flesh and blood 00:13:33.48\00:13:38.42 but I couldn't be closer too, 00:13:38.45\00:13:39.96 another sibling than my sister Kristin. 00:13:39.99\00:13:42.42 And, we're very close in age so that we've been very close, 00:13:42.45\00:13:47.45 even though we were younger that 00:13:47.48\00:13:48.53 closeness in age caused a lot of me picking on her. 00:13:48.56\00:13:52.73 Normal sibling rivalry type of stuff. 00:13:52.76\00:13:54.44 Yes, yes. 00:13:54.47\00:13:56.40 But I've been very fortunate that my parents, 00:13:56.43\00:13:59.99 they were committed Adventist Education 00:14:00.02\00:14:02.07 form day one and when it was time for me 00:14:02.10\00:14:05.45 to go to first grade, the near Adventist school 00:14:05.48\00:14:08.00 was over an hour away and they said, 00:14:08.03\00:14:10.23 doesn't matter we're driving you to that school. 00:14:10.26\00:14:13.08 And, so I've been able to attend 00:14:13.11\00:14:15.09 Seventh-day Adventist schools all the way through college. 00:14:15.12\00:14:18.05 And, I know that's made 00:14:18.08\00:14:19.20 an eternal difference in my life. 00:14:19.23\00:14:21.27 Now when you got to college, I just want to touch on this 00:14:21.30\00:14:24.08 'cause it's going to come up later in your testimony, 00:14:24.11\00:14:25.89 when you got to college 00:14:25.92\00:14:27.55 you were starting out in theology, is that correct? 00:14:27.58\00:14:30.03 Yes, I did. 00:14:30.06\00:14:31.10 I started out in theology 00:14:31.13\00:14:32.59 and since from a young age I thought that God-- 00:14:32.62\00:14:35.33 I looked up to my dad greatly, my adopted dad, 00:14:35.36\00:14:39.08 and I thought, you know I would love to be just like him. 00:14:39.11\00:14:41.57 And, as many young children idolize their parents, 00:14:41.60\00:14:46.27 but I was so nervous with public speaking 00:14:46.30\00:14:48.85 that when I took the classes for preaching, 00:14:48.88\00:14:52.59 "Intro to Preaching and Intermediate Preaching", 00:14:52.62\00:14:55.03 I just said, I can't do this, 00:14:55.06\00:14:56.58 I can't do this every week, Lord, this is too much. 00:14:56.61\00:14:59.31 And, so the Lord saw fit to, 00:14:59.34\00:15:01.17 I got some counsel from a godly friend 00:15:01.20\00:15:04.77 to go in education because my own experience 00:15:04.80\00:15:06.96 in Adventist Education was so rich, 00:15:06.99\00:15:09.09 with so many friends and also faculty members that 00:15:09.12\00:15:12.04 just took a personal interest in me, 00:15:12.07\00:15:14.15 that I though I would love to go back 00:15:14.18\00:15:16.09 and be able to be in that same position 00:15:16.12\00:15:18.12 to give back to other young people 00:15:18.15\00:15:21.53 that are in that developmental stage 00:15:21.56\00:15:23.39 when they're not sure what they want to do 00:15:23.42\00:15:25.04 with their life and what God might 00:15:25.07\00:15:26.64 want for them to do. 00:15:26.67\00:15:28.32 And, so I've been working in Adventist Education 00:15:28.35\00:15:30.15 now seventeen and a half years. 00:15:30.18\00:15:32.51 And, it's a high royal privilege. 00:15:32.54\00:15:34.17 Oh, it is. 00:15:34.20\00:15:35.29 It is an amazing privilege. 00:15:35.32\00:15:36.71 You know, what's amazing, Greg, 00:15:36.74\00:15:37.80 is as I listened to Brian you think, 00:15:37.83\00:15:40.77 how can he be nervous, 00:15:40.80\00:15:42.26 you know, because he communicates, 00:15:42.29\00:15:43.96 he's articulate, he shares well, 00:15:43.99\00:15:45.53 and you think, that's what God is doing in his life 00:15:45.56\00:15:48.85 and that's incredible, we're going to see 00:15:48.88\00:15:50.34 the transformation that's taking place, 00:15:50.37\00:15:52.70 that's exciting. 00:15:52.73\00:15:54.09 So tell me, as we jump forward to that, 00:15:54.12\00:15:56.94 um, you were raised in a Seventh Adventist home, 00:15:56.97\00:15:59.74 wonderful parents, adopted but you call them your parents. 00:15:59.77\00:16:03.00 Yes I do. 00:16:03.03\00:16:04.28 And raised in the church, 00:16:04.31\00:16:06.17 you taught seventeen and a half years, 00:16:06.20\00:16:08.72 and yet at the same point was there something missing 00:16:08.75\00:16:13.33 in your relationship with Jesus? 00:16:13.36\00:16:14.62 Yes, ma'am. 00:16:14.65\00:16:15.69 There was something missing. 00:16:15.72\00:16:17.37 In spite of the fact that I was surrounded 00:16:17.40\00:16:19.23 by all of these terrific influences, 00:16:19.26\00:16:22.49 godly parents, godly teachers, godly friends at school, 00:16:22.52\00:16:26.56 I still was living a very Laodicean lifestyle. 00:16:26.59\00:16:30.32 Nothing that was extremely bad 00:16:30.35\00:16:32.29 that would be your quote, you know, major reed-flag sins, 00:16:32.32\00:16:36.74 but just, you know, the message to the Laodicean church, 00:16:36.77\00:16:39.13 they think that they are okay 00:16:39.16\00:16:40.86 but they have the spiritual poverty 00:16:40.89\00:16:42.29 because they have self-righteousness 00:16:42.32\00:16:44.98 and a self-absorbed interest 00:16:45.01\00:16:46.69 of which I think I was involved with, 00:16:46.72\00:16:49.83 just really living for myself 00:16:49.86\00:16:52.54 although going to church and not against the church, 00:16:52.57\00:16:55.55 but not engaged in wanting to do 00:16:55.58\00:16:57.49 something to help further the ministry of your church. 00:16:57.52\00:17:01.30 Yeah, absolutely. 00:17:01.33\00:17:02.93 Do you think that's happening a lot, 00:17:02.96\00:17:04.59 the Laodicean in our churches? 00:17:04.62\00:17:07.02 I do, and since I work with young people, 00:17:07.05\00:17:09.95 they are on the frontline of Satan's attacks. 00:17:09.98\00:17:12.00 I can tell you that 00:17:12.03\00:17:13.21 there are so many distractions today. 00:17:13.24\00:17:14.87 While there is tremendous potential for good 00:17:14.90\00:17:17.09 with the internet and with satellite 00:17:17.12\00:17:19.23 and television and media, 00:17:19.26\00:17:21.39 but they are also to equal or greater degree 00:17:21.42\00:17:25.91 a tool for diversion and distraction. 00:17:25.94\00:17:28.33 And, many young people especially fall 00:17:28.36\00:17:32.06 into the distractions that are leading them away 00:17:32.09\00:17:34.31 from the sure foundation of the word of God. 00:17:34.34\00:17:37.19 And, so it's very easy I think to become absorbed 00:17:37.22\00:17:40.38 in just the here and now, and selfish interests 00:17:40.41\00:17:44.14 but God has a higher and holier calling 00:17:44.17\00:17:46.24 on each one of us. 00:17:46.27\00:17:47.50 And, when we realize that there will be a change. 00:17:47.53\00:17:50.90 Yeah, absolutely. 00:17:50.93\00:17:52.70 Yeah, for sure. 00:17:52.73\00:17:53.76 You know, as I'm thinking about the Laodicean, 00:17:53.79\00:17:55.30 'cause you mentioned Laodicean 00:17:55.33\00:17:56.67 and you felt that you were Laodicean, 00:17:56.70\00:17:59.01 something took place that, kind of, 00:17:59.04\00:18:00.59 you realized that you were in that state. 00:18:00.62\00:18:03.36 So tell us a little bit about that. 00:18:03.39\00:18:04.87 Yes. 00:18:04.90\00:18:06.33 Well, if I can back up for just a little bit 00:18:06.36\00:18:07.84 and mention a story. 00:18:07.87\00:18:10.89 While working in education I've been teaching-- 00:18:10.92\00:18:12.86 Let me just interrupt you too real quickly. 00:18:12.89\00:18:13.94 We love stories, so anytime we got a story 00:18:13.97\00:18:15.97 this is great, so yeah, please tell us the story. 00:18:16.00\00:18:17.84 Certainly. 00:18:17.87\00:18:18.90 Well, while working in education 00:18:18.93\00:18:20.41 at Mount Pisgah Academy for the last 17 years, 00:18:20.44\00:18:22.72 I'm also an alumnus of the school 00:18:22.75\00:18:24.14 and it's a wonderful school 00:18:24.17\00:18:25.80 located at the mountains of Asheville, North Carolina. 00:18:25.83\00:18:28.89 Well, I was teaching this one young fellow 00:18:28.92\00:18:31.88 and when he came as a freshman he was not a local student, 00:18:31.91\00:18:35.57 he had to fly in from out of town. 00:18:35.60\00:18:37.88 In my first year I was the Assistant Dean 00:18:37.91\00:18:40.15 and this student was so shy that 00:18:40.18\00:18:42.30 he rode in the back seat of the car` 00:18:42.33\00:18:44.43 when I had to drive him to the airport, 00:18:44.46\00:18:46.13 and so although the front seat was open, 00:18:46.16\00:18:48.13 he would not sit. 00:18:48.16\00:18:49.65 And, I was thinking to myself, I've got to say something 00:18:49.68\00:18:52.23 to encourage this little fellow. 00:18:52.26\00:18:54.18 And he must be so painfully shy and quiet that, 00:18:54.21\00:18:58.04 how can I reach out to him, 00:18:58.07\00:18:59.11 and so those are the kind of students 00:18:59.14\00:19:00.65 and opportunities you treasure as an educator, 00:19:00.68\00:19:02.69 to reach out and have an influence 00:19:02.72\00:19:04.86 and encouragement on a young person's life. 00:19:04.89\00:19:07.15 Well, it just so happens I was the class sponsor 00:19:07.18\00:19:10.16 of this same student when he came as a freshman 00:19:10.19\00:19:12.35 for four years. 00:19:12.38\00:19:13.90 And, by his senior year 00:19:13.93\00:19:15.25 he had a tremendous spiritual revival in his own heart, 00:19:15.28\00:19:19.38 and he asked for permission from the administration 00:19:19.41\00:19:21.59 could he put on an evangelistic series. 00:19:21.62\00:19:24.27 Okay, so this shy student, 00:19:24.30\00:19:26.86 who would sit in the back seat of the car, 00:19:26.89\00:19:28.60 is asking to put on an evangelistic series. 00:19:28.63\00:19:31.86 You're probably like, wow, what a transformation. 00:19:31.89\00:19:34.97 Okay, so continue. 00:19:35.00\00:19:36.05 It really was, it was hard to believe. 00:19:36.08\00:19:38.86 And, but the Lord, once the Lord gets a hold of you-- 00:19:38.89\00:19:40.76 That's right. 00:19:40.79\00:19:41.83 You cannot keep it to yourself. 00:19:41.86\00:19:43.43 You will have to share it with someone else. 00:19:43.46\00:19:45.25 So what happened? 00:19:45.28\00:19:46.33 Well, he got permission. 00:19:46.36\00:19:47.57 This wasn't going to be just a simple evangelistic series, 00:19:47.60\00:19:50.99 he wanted to get his friends involved 00:19:51.02\00:19:52.78 and so he got about five of his friends 00:19:52.81\00:19:55.30 involved in preaching a full share Him campaign. 00:19:55.33\00:19:58.38 They split up and each preached about 00:19:58.41\00:19:59.99 five of six sermons. 00:20:00.02\00:20:01.52 What is share Him? 00:20:01.55\00:20:02.99 It is an evangelistic series that tries to reach out 00:20:03.02\00:20:05.60 and just go through our basic teachings 00:20:05.63\00:20:08.16 and doctrines and messages 00:20:08.19\00:20:09.28 of the Seventh-day Adventist church. 00:20:09.31\00:20:10.38 With slide presentations. 00:20:10.41\00:20:11.49 Slide presentation, yes. 00:20:11.52\00:20:12.58 Where you have a computer 00:20:12.61\00:20:13.68 and you can just kind of follow along. 00:20:13.71\00:20:14.99 You still have to practice and study ahead of time 00:20:15.02\00:20:17.13 if you want to present it as clearly as possible. 00:20:17.16\00:20:20.28 Sure, and they were presenting this program-- 00:20:20.31\00:20:22.00 Putting the work in to do that. 00:20:22.03\00:20:23.25 Yes. 00:20:23.28\00:20:24.72 And, I was amazed they wanted to do 00:20:24.75\00:20:26.52 the special music, 00:20:26.55\00:20:28.51 they wanted to do the announcements, 00:20:28.54\00:20:30.97 they wanted-- the young people that is, 00:20:31.00\00:20:32.59 they wanted to do the parking, 00:20:32.62\00:20:33.65 they actually secured the use of a tent 00:20:33.68\00:20:37.58 that was about two miles from the school 00:20:37.61\00:20:39.46 on a busy highway. 00:20:39.49\00:20:41.08 Our school is, kind of, located off 00:20:41.11\00:20:42.52 the main interstate. 00:20:42.55\00:20:44.93 But off of a main four-lane highway, 00:20:44.96\00:20:46.89 not an interstate but just the highway. 00:20:46.92\00:20:48.52 And, so there will be as many people 00:20:48.55\00:20:50.21 as possible that would come by and attend these meetings. 00:20:50.24\00:20:52.59 And so there were quite a few that came to the meetings 00:20:52.62\00:20:55.32 and there were few that were baptized 00:20:55.35\00:20:57.33 and came into our local church as a result of that. 00:20:57.36\00:20:59.47 Praise the Lord. 00:20:59.50\00:21:00.53 And, uh-- 00:21:00.56\00:21:02.20 Are you going to tell us this young, shy young man. 00:21:02.23\00:21:04.34 Well, if you fast forward a years later-- 00:21:04.37\00:21:06.84 Can you tell us his name? 00:21:06.87\00:21:07.94 Yes, his name was Justin McNeilus. 00:21:07.97\00:21:10.60 Isn't that amazing? 00:21:10.63\00:21:12.04 Dynamic speaker on GYC especially we see him there. 00:21:12.07\00:21:14.69 Absolutely, a strong leader in the church-- 00:21:14.72\00:21:16.77 Oh yeah, absolutely. 00:21:16.80\00:21:17.84 GYC, president of GYC 00:21:17.87\00:21:19.95 for several years, a dynamic speaker 00:21:19.98\00:21:21.90 and we love the McNeilus family here at 3ABN as well. 00:21:21.93\00:21:24.98 So that's incredible, the transformation. 00:21:25.01\00:21:27.41 It is incredible. 00:21:27.44\00:21:29.39 And, the story continues on because, 00:21:29.42\00:21:30.96 I think what you are leading too, 00:21:30.99\00:21:32.46 years later as he went on and became very active with GYC 00:21:32.49\00:21:35.48 and became the president, 00:21:35.51\00:21:36.60 I think for seven years, in 2011, 00:21:36.63\00:21:40.43 he had been president for a number of years 00:21:40.46\00:21:41.82 and said, you know Mr. Hindman, 00:21:41.85\00:21:43.09 you need to come to one of our GYC meetings, 00:21:43.12\00:21:45.05 one of our conferences. 00:21:45.08\00:21:46.11 So he invited you. 00:21:46.14\00:21:47.50 Personal invitation. 00:21:47.53\00:21:48.87 And, you know, I've watched GYC on 3ABN before. 00:21:48.90\00:21:54.64 The meetings, you know, are, 00:21:54.67\00:21:55.85 I know you guys show those, especially the evening sessions 00:21:55.88\00:21:59.88 and those are just phenomenal. 00:21:59.91\00:22:01.23 I'd heard the speakers, Eric Walsh, 00:22:01.26\00:22:03.44 I remember him speaking, going through earlier GYC 00:22:03.47\00:22:06.88 and thinking boy, this is fantastic. 00:22:06.91\00:22:08.73 But there's nothing like being there 00:22:08.76\00:22:11.33 around thousands of young people, 00:22:11.36\00:22:13.27 I know their target age is 18 to 35, 00:22:13.30\00:22:15.25 but when he invited me I think I was around 37-38, 00:22:15.28\00:22:18.57 I was a little bit outside the target age, 00:22:18.60\00:22:20.45 but he said, you've got to come. 00:22:20.48\00:22:22.08 And, so he actually made it possible for our family, 00:22:22.11\00:22:24.68 our whole family, my wife, my son and I, 00:22:24.71\00:22:26.81 to go to Houston, Texas in 2011 00:22:26.84\00:22:29.81 and to be there, and-- 00:22:29.84\00:22:31.53 What an experience? 00:22:31.56\00:22:32.60 It was life changing. 00:22:32.63\00:22:34.39 Wow. Amen. 00:22:34.42\00:22:35.56 It was life changing to be with so many young people, 00:22:35.59\00:22:39.43 to be around all-- day and night 00:22:39.46\00:22:41.31 from the morning devotionals all the to the plenary sessions 00:22:41.34\00:22:44.48 to the seminars to the evening sessions, 00:22:44.51\00:22:46.80 it was a spiritual feast. 00:22:46.83\00:22:48.80 And, my soul was quickened, 00:22:48.83\00:22:50.49 my heart was quickened, my wife, my son and I, 00:22:50.52\00:22:52.46 all of us went forward at the close of that 00:22:52.49\00:22:55.33 GYC conference and made an appeal, 00:22:55.36\00:22:58.02 when they called for an appeal rather, 00:22:58.05\00:22:59.76 to really recommit and give our lives 00:22:59.79\00:23:01.90 entirely into God's hands. 00:23:01.93\00:23:03.72 And, things have changed since then. 00:23:03.75\00:23:04.82 Wow. 00:23:04.85\00:23:05.94 Dramatically changed in my life. 00:23:05.97\00:23:07.35 So that was where you're realizing, 00:23:07.38\00:23:08.76 you mentioned a few minutes ago 00:23:08.79\00:23:10.26 being in the Laodicean state. 00:23:10.29\00:23:12.14 Kind of a little sleep, happy and what you're at and not-- 00:23:12.17\00:23:15.20 I guess involved but not really involved, 00:23:15.23\00:23:17.53 and having a heart change experience. 00:23:17.56\00:23:18.83 So it was at GYC that God got a hold of you 00:23:18.86\00:23:22.27 and you made radical changes, it sounds like. 00:23:22.30\00:23:23.94 Yes, incredible. 00:23:23.97\00:23:25.54 So walk us down that path. 00:23:25.57\00:23:27.04 All right, well-- 00:23:27.07\00:23:28.13 'Cause it can't be easy, I mean 'cause, okay, 00:23:28.16\00:23:29.91 the reason I'm bringing this stuff is that 00:23:29.94\00:23:30.98 we have viewers at home. 00:23:31.01\00:23:32.31 You know, they are sitting there saying, 00:23:32.34\00:23:33.39 well, you know, I have really done too much, 00:23:33.42\00:23:35.43 you know, I enjoy where I am, I enjoy going to church, 00:23:35.46\00:23:38.63 not really involved, so there are people 00:23:38.66\00:23:40.65 that were in your state, are in your state, 00:23:40.68\00:23:42.87 where you were several years ago. 00:23:42.90\00:23:43.94 So walk us through that 00:23:43.97\00:23:45.03 because this is an encouragement to you at home 00:23:45.06\00:23:47.33 because when you hear somebody's testimony 00:23:47.36\00:23:49.32 it's like, okay all fine and good, 00:23:49.35\00:23:51.11 but Brian here today is going to share with us 00:23:51.14\00:23:54.05 how God has changed him 00:23:54.08\00:23:55.16 and that means God can change you, 00:23:55.19\00:23:57.37 He can change me because I know my daily walk 00:23:57.40\00:23:59.63 with him has it's ups and downs, 00:23:59.66\00:24:01.27 but I know it's that sanctification process, 00:24:01.30\00:24:03.31 which is accepting Jesus Christ 00:24:03.34\00:24:04.71 into my life each and every day. 00:24:04.74\00:24:06.30 So, Brian, tell us a little bit more 00:24:06.33\00:24:07.50 what happened and how that change took place. 00:24:07.53\00:24:10.06 Well, let me go back to that verse, 00:24:10.09\00:24:11.12 St. Corinthians 5:17, 00:24:11.15\00:24:12.74 and I would invite our viewers to actually put your name 00:24:12.77\00:24:16.18 where it says, "any man", 00:24:16.21\00:24:17.62 put your name there and read the verse as follows, 00:24:17.65\00:24:20.76 I'll put it with my own name, 00:24:20.79\00:24:21.82 "Therefore if Brian Hindman be in Christ 00:24:21.85\00:24:24.16 he is a new creature", and then it says 00:24:24.19\00:24:26.43 "Old things are passed away". 00:24:26.46\00:24:27.51 "Behold". 00:24:27.54\00:24:28.58 And, so when we become, yes, "behold", 00:24:28.61\00:24:30.27 notice there is a change. 00:24:30.30\00:24:31.99 And, so some of the things in my life that changed, 00:24:32.02\00:24:34.24 are the use of my time. 00:24:34.27\00:24:36.20 And, this might seem like such a simple thing, 00:24:36.23\00:24:39.18 but our time -- You said, our time. 00:24:39.21\00:24:41.27 T-I-M-E. Yes, sir. 00:24:41.30\00:24:43.23 Just a little word. 00:24:43.26\00:24:44.70 A little word but has huge implications. 00:24:44.73\00:24:47.48 You know, it doesn't matter 00:24:47.51\00:24:48.59 if it's Bill Gates or Warren Buffett, 00:24:48.62\00:24:51.00 whoever the richest man in the world is, 00:24:51.03\00:24:52.38 he does not have more time in a day than you and I do. 00:24:52.41\00:24:55.93 We all are allowed a certain amount of time. 00:24:55.96\00:24:58.13 And, I heard a wise preacher many years ago 00:24:58.16\00:25:01.10 preach a simple sermon 00:25:01.13\00:25:02.76 where he gave the following illustration 00:25:02.79\00:25:04.05 I'd love to share with your viewers. 00:25:04.08\00:25:05.11 Please. 00:25:05.14\00:25:06.17 He said, I want you to think about your day 00:25:06.20\00:25:08.34 and what you do every day. 00:25:08.37\00:25:09.50 And, he says, I want you to take out sleeping, 00:25:09.53\00:25:12.91 take out eating, 00:25:12.94\00:25:14.20 if you're a student take out going to school, 00:25:14.23\00:25:16.15 if you're not a student you're working take out your job, 00:25:16.18\00:25:19.19 he says, I want you to think about 00:25:19.22\00:25:20.25 the two or three things 00:25:20.28\00:25:21.31 that you spend the most time doing, 00:25:21.34\00:25:22.92 exclude those other things. 00:25:22.95\00:25:24.82 And, so he said, now I want you to think about this, 00:25:24.85\00:25:27.18 whatever you spend the most time doing 00:25:27.21\00:25:29.32 is what you automatically value the most. 00:25:29.35\00:25:33.34 By default, you subconsciously 00:25:33.37\00:25:36.61 or consciously value what you spend your time doing. 00:25:36.64\00:25:39.87 And, I noticed that I was spending my time 00:25:39.90\00:25:42.02 in things like lots of TV, 00:25:42.05\00:25:45.66 lots of self-absorbed entertainment and amusement, 00:25:45.69\00:25:48.72 and so our characters are being shaped by the things 00:25:48.75\00:25:51.76 that we spend or time doing. 00:25:51.79\00:25:53.48 And, so although, like, 00:25:53.51\00:25:55.27 I was watching lots of sports and news on TV, 00:25:55.30\00:25:57.84 and you might say, well, those are true, 00:25:57.87\00:25:59.46 you know, if you look at Philippians 4:8, 00:25:59.49\00:26:00.79 what sort of things are true, well there's more to it 00:26:00.82\00:26:02.78 if you look at the rest of the verse. 00:26:02.81\00:26:04.51 Honest, just, lovely, good rapport, virtue, praise 00:26:04.54\00:26:07.82 and so just because it's true 00:26:07.85\00:26:10.08 it still was a waste of my time. 00:26:10.11\00:26:12.15 Watching so much of these sports things 00:26:12.18\00:26:13.82 when they're going to play again, 00:26:13.85\00:26:14.88 I realize, the next year 00:26:14.91\00:26:16.56 and the next year and the next year, 00:26:16.59\00:26:18.44 they're going to keep playing those games. 00:26:18.47\00:26:20.05 And, In fact I looked up 00:26:20.08\00:26:21.14 the word "game" in the dictionary, 00:26:21.17\00:26:22.92 and would you believe the word game, 00:26:22.95\00:26:24.95 there are several definitions, but the primary definition is, 00:26:24.98\00:26:28.51 "An activity engaged in for diversion 00:26:28.54\00:26:30.93 or amusement"-- 00:26:30.96\00:26:32.43 Diversion, you're thinking diversion. 00:26:32.46\00:26:33.68 And, so that came to my mind I thought, 00:26:33.71\00:26:35.59 wait a minute, 00:26:35.62\00:26:36.67 when does a Christian ever need to be diverted 00:26:36.70\00:26:38.92 from the word of God, 00:26:38.95\00:26:41.12 and from his mission on this earth, 00:26:41.15\00:26:42.94 which is to proclaim the message 00:26:42.97\00:26:44.52 that Jesus is coming soon. 00:26:44.55\00:26:46.27 And, that we have a savior for sinners. 00:26:46.30\00:26:48.97 And, so there's never a time I need to be diverted 00:26:49.00\00:26:51.40 from that and if a game, now this applies to card games, 00:26:51.43\00:26:54.12 table games, sports games, 00:26:54.15\00:26:55.30 not only was I watching lots of games, 00:26:55.33\00:26:57.15 I was playing lots of games, city league basketball, 00:26:57.18\00:26:59.47 city league football, but those things were taking 00:26:59.50\00:27:02.06 so much of my time and may be 00:27:02.09\00:27:03.79 four or five minutes in the word of God. 00:27:03.82\00:27:05.55 And, so when you contrast the four or five hours 00:27:05.58\00:27:08.45 in other diversions and games, 00:27:08.48\00:27:10.69 four five minutes in the word of God, 00:27:10.72\00:27:12.03 what does it say, 00:27:12.06\00:27:13.10 whatever you spend the most time doing, 00:27:13.13\00:27:14.17 that's where I'm placing what I value the most 00:27:14.20\00:27:16.01 even though I professed to love the word of God more than 00:27:16.04\00:27:19.05 other things on TV 00:27:19.08\00:27:20.50 I wasn't showing it by my actions. 00:27:20.53\00:27:22.44 You know, Paul tells us 00:27:22.47\00:27:23.65 that we are changed by beholding, 00:27:23.68\00:27:25.18 by beholding we become changed. 00:27:25.21\00:27:26.40 So what we behold, what spend time in, 00:27:26.43\00:27:29.52 impact our spiritual life, 00:27:29.55\00:27:31.69 impacts who we are and what we become. 00:27:31.72\00:27:35.35 So what you're saying is God radically altered 00:27:35.38\00:27:37.99 you and your family, what you did with your time, 00:27:38.02\00:27:42.34 more time in the word of God. 00:27:42.37\00:27:43.40 Now what did your wife think about this? 00:27:43.43\00:27:44.89 Was she onboard all the way or-- 00:27:44.92\00:27:46.89 Oh, I am thankful, praise the Lord, 00:27:46.92\00:27:48.52 for a godly wife, and as Proverbs 31 says, 00:27:48.55\00:27:52.81 chapter 31, I don't know what verse, 00:27:52.84\00:27:54.17 about a godly woman is worth more than rubies 00:27:54.20\00:27:56.79 and if you look at the value of rubies 00:27:56.82\00:27:58.22 they are worth even more than diamonds and other-- 00:27:58.25\00:28:00.50 they are extremely valuable, 00:28:00.53\00:28:01.99 And, so a godly woman, my wife actually, 00:28:02.02\00:28:05.06 because we were at the GYC together 00:28:05.09\00:28:06.69 we experienced the same convictions together, 00:28:06.72\00:28:09.32 she actually got on the phone 00:28:09.35\00:28:10.84 and called the cable company to cancel our cable for us. 00:28:10.87\00:28:15.97 Now I don't want to cancel 3ABN 00:28:16.00\00:28:18.47 because this is a tremendous blessing. 00:28:18.50\00:28:19.81 I've been greatly blessed by the messages 00:28:19.84\00:28:21.52 that are presented on 3ABN. 00:28:21.55\00:28:23.36 But we were watching so much things, 00:28:23.39\00:28:25.26 even though Home and Garden Television, 00:28:25.29\00:28:27.57 you know, some of those they're not bad 00:28:27.60\00:28:29.14 but when they take away from your time 00:28:29.17\00:28:30.81 in the word of God, it was a distraction. 00:28:30.84\00:28:33.15 Now watch this, as my wife calls the cable operator 00:28:33.18\00:28:35.94 and calls to cancel our cable, 00:28:35.97\00:28:38.00 the operator was in shock, you mean are you transferring 00:28:38.03\00:28:42.23 because-- you're cancelling 00:28:42.26\00:28:43.32 because you're getting satellite or you're getting, 00:28:43.35\00:28:45.86 is there something wrong? 00:28:45.89\00:28:47.30 And, so they did everything 00:28:47.33\00:28:48.66 they could to try and keep us with their service. 00:28:48.69\00:28:53.49 They even offered free premium channels, 00:28:53.52\00:28:56.04 the HBO, Cinemax and whatever things, 00:28:56.07\00:28:57.97 and my wife, I was listening to the conversation, 00:28:58.00\00:28:59.88 she was very kind and she said, I don't think you understand, 00:28:59.91\00:29:02.87 we don't want any channels from your televisi-- 00:29:02.90\00:29:06.20 coming into our house. 00:29:06.23\00:29:08.19 And, they did all that they could to try 00:29:08.22\00:29:09.86 and convince her and then finally when they realized 00:29:09.89\00:29:11.91 there was nothing they could do, 00:29:11.94\00:29:13.09 okay that's going to be 65-70 dollars 00:29:13.12\00:29:15.13 to disconnect you cable, thank you and have a nice day. 00:29:15.16\00:29:18.01 So even disconnecting, you know, 00:29:18.04\00:29:21.45 they were still trying to be like, all right, 00:29:21.48\00:29:22.74 I'm going to get you. 00:29:22.77\00:29:23.82 But since we done that, you know, my son is well, 00:29:23.85\00:29:26.68 he enjoys doing things more 00:29:26.71\00:29:28.03 outside continuously and it's just-- 00:29:28.06\00:29:30.31 You get more time in the word of God. 00:29:30.34\00:29:31.37 Exactly, much more time in the word of God 00:29:31.40\00:29:33.48 and spirit of prophesying. 00:29:33.51\00:29:34.59 It has been-- the distraction 00:29:34.62\00:29:36.44 isn't there anymore. 00:29:36.47\00:29:37.50 And, so we are a changed family. 00:29:37.53\00:29:40.20 You know, I'm going to just touch 00:29:40.23\00:29:41.28 on the word also of balance, 00:29:41.31\00:29:42.95 because I know the answer to this 00:29:42.98\00:29:45.11 but I'm going to ask this question to you. 00:29:45.14\00:29:46.18 Okay, so right now for the last number of years 00:29:46.21\00:29:49.02 you have hold-up in a little room 00:29:49.05\00:29:51.43 just studying God's word all by yourself like a monk? 00:29:51.46\00:29:54.51 Not at all. 00:29:54.54\00:29:55.57 Exactly. Not at all. 00:29:55.60\00:29:56.66 So that's what I'm getting at, is balance because we-- 00:29:56.69\00:29:59.09 to study the word of God in our time is wonderful, 00:29:59.12\00:30:02.09 that should be our priority. 00:30:02.12\00:30:03.24 But then I know you're going to get to the sharing aspect, 00:30:03.27\00:30:05.43 and what we do with the word of God 00:30:05.46\00:30:07.79 when we put it inside because we can continue to fill 00:30:07.82\00:30:09.86 but we've got to spread it to others. 00:30:09.89\00:30:11.80 So it comes down to balance 'cause like you said, 00:30:11.83\00:30:13.45 your son likes to go outside and exercise. 00:30:13.48\00:30:15.68 It's not-- we're not trying to say you 00:30:15.71\00:30:17.76 just get rid of everything and you just like-- 00:30:17.79\00:30:19.92 No, no you have to replace it with something good. 00:30:19.95\00:30:21.50 Exactly. You're absolutely right. 00:30:21.53\00:30:22.56 That is sometimes the key. 00:30:22.59\00:30:23.62 I think may be where-- remember 00:30:23.65\00:30:24.83 where Jesus is talking about the man 00:30:24.86\00:30:26.60 that swept this house clean but then replaced it 00:30:26.63\00:30:30.47 with seven more wicked spirits, more wicked than the first, 00:30:30.50\00:30:33.54 and so you can't just clean the house 00:30:33.57\00:30:35.69 and then just leave it and think you're okay. 00:30:35.72\00:30:37.24 You've got to replace it with good things 00:30:37.27\00:30:38.68 because the rest of that verse, 00:30:38.71\00:30:39.79 St. Corinthians 5:17 says, 00:30:39.82\00:30:41.50 "Behold all things are become new", 00:30:41.53\00:30:43.35 and so new thoughts, new desires, 00:30:43.38\00:30:45.97 all of those things which in our family 00:30:46.00\00:30:49.87 we began to become serious about our family devotions. 00:30:49.90\00:30:52.77 That's fantastic. 00:30:52.80\00:30:53.86 Become very serious, I mean, every day morning and evening, 00:30:53.89\00:30:58.31 every day to become very serious 00:30:58.34\00:30:59.83 about spending that time together 00:30:59.86\00:31:01.63 and even spending time, 00:31:01.66\00:31:03.17 even when we were apart from each other during the day, 00:31:03.20\00:31:05.49 in our jobs and at school, to pray together at 12:15, 00:31:05.52\00:31:08.74 and so to pray three times a day 00:31:08.77\00:31:10.24 even when we were apart from each other, 00:31:10.27\00:31:12.02 those are important things as well. 00:31:12.05\00:31:13.92 Absolutely. 00:31:13.95\00:31:15.05 But a desire to share what God has done for me, 00:31:15.08\00:31:18.65 has just, it has just, 00:31:18.68\00:31:20.82 I don't want to use the word "consumed" 00:31:20.85\00:31:22.05 because that sounds terrible, 00:31:22.08\00:31:23.15 but it has just overtaken me to the point 00:31:23.18\00:31:26.04 where it's all I want to talk about now, 00:31:26.07\00:31:27.89 is the word of God, but I want to study 00:31:27.92\00:31:29.41 like you say from the-- Jesus spent His time 00:31:29.44\00:31:31.97 in the mountains and the multitudes. 00:31:32.00\00:31:34.07 In Desire of Ages, there he is from the mountains 00:31:34.10\00:31:36.34 is when He spent His time in prayer 00:31:36.37\00:31:37.70 and studied the word of God. 00:31:37.73\00:31:38.95 We still have to have that personal communion. 00:31:38.98\00:31:40.98 But then to you go to the multitudes, 00:31:41.01\00:31:43.87 Anak, also the same example, he wasn't a hermit. 00:31:43.90\00:31:46.13 When I called to separate ourselves completely, 00:31:46.16\00:31:49.54 we are called-- I mean the Light of the World 00:31:49.57\00:31:51.01 and Salt of the Earth, 00:31:51.04\00:31:52.07 you must in contact with those you hope to help. 00:31:52.10\00:31:54.87 Because then it strengthens, 00:31:54.90\00:31:56.18 also I know when I'm able to share with others 00:31:56.21\00:31:58.71 what God is doing for me, that strengthens, 00:31:58.74\00:32:00.89 I know, my own spiritual walk 00:32:00.92\00:32:02.70 and just so-- you at home, I don't know 00:32:02.73\00:32:05.12 if you can catch his enthusiasm, 00:32:05.15\00:32:06.55 I mean, us here on the set, it's contagious. 00:32:06.58\00:32:08.68 What God is doing in your life, and did you catch earlier, 00:32:08.71\00:32:11.53 he said he afraid of public speaking, 00:32:11.56\00:32:13.66 should I tell you 00:32:13.69\00:32:14.72 that I'm sure there are millions of people 00:32:14.75\00:32:15.98 may be watching this testimony, to God be the glory for that, 00:32:16.01\00:32:18.71 but that's where God, 00:32:18.74\00:32:19.90 I mean you're bubbling over with Jesus Christ in your life. 00:32:19.93\00:32:22.96 And that's the transformation, you know, 00:32:22.99\00:32:24.75 that God effected and to me that's powerful. 00:32:24.78\00:32:26.69 Because what took place at that GYC in 2011 in Houston, 00:32:26.72\00:32:31.28 God got a hold of your life, I like to think of that 00:32:31.31\00:32:34.03 personal relationship with Jesus. 00:32:34.06\00:32:36.28 You know, not that you didn't have that 00:32:36.31\00:32:37.80 before but He said, okay, reprioritize your time 00:32:37.83\00:32:40.34 and spend that in My word 00:32:40.37\00:32:42.83 and then when we read the Bible, 00:32:42.86\00:32:45.19 you can't get enough of it. 00:32:45.22\00:32:46.30 You know, you want more and more 00:32:46.33\00:32:48.63 as the deer pants for the living water, 00:32:48.66\00:32:50.99 you know, my soul pants after Jesus. 00:32:51.02\00:32:52.60 So that's a beautiful thing. 00:32:52.63\00:32:53.86 And, then after that I'm thinking 00:32:53.89\00:32:56.05 of how you were trained in theology in college began 00:32:56.08\00:32:58.71 and then you said, no, I'm afraid to do that 00:32:58.74\00:33:00.14 so I'm going to become a teacher. 00:33:00.17\00:33:02.17 And, then you went to GYC in Houston and God worked 00:33:02.20\00:33:05.97 and is in the process of transforming your life 00:33:06.00\00:33:08.65 and then as a result of that you started getting invitations 00:33:08.68\00:33:11.84 to go out and speak, 00:33:11.87\00:33:13.83 and something took place at GYC, right? 00:33:13.86\00:33:16.29 Was it the following GYC? 00:33:16.32\00:33:17.40 It was two GYC's later, a GYC in Orlando 00:33:17.43\00:33:22.07 that I was actually asked to present a seminar 00:33:22.10\00:33:24.60 on The Great Controversy. 00:33:24.63\00:33:25.84 You know, I'm a history teacher, 00:33:25.87\00:33:27.29 I do teach also a Bible class as well, 00:33:27.32\00:33:29.65 I treasure that, junior Bible. 00:33:29.68\00:33:31.57 But I teach world history, 00:33:31.60\00:33:32.89 American history and American government. 00:33:32.92\00:33:34.61 And so at the theme for the GYC in Orlando 00:33:34.64\00:33:38.08 was before men and angels, 00:33:38.11\00:33:39.62 with The Great Controversy theme 00:33:39.65\00:33:41.46 which to me is very important to understand, 00:33:41.49\00:33:44.30 very interesting as well. 00:33:44.33\00:33:45.37 I try to, in my history classes, 00:33:45.40\00:33:46.95 incorporate a lot of scripture 00:33:46.98\00:33:49.11 and spirit of prophecy as you can see 00:33:49.14\00:33:50.85 how God has involved Himself throughout all of history, 00:33:50.88\00:33:54.60 both corporately and individually, 00:33:54.63\00:33:56.70 God has a plan and He is working 00:33:56.73\00:33:59.20 to accomplish that plan, and so-- 00:33:59.23\00:34:02.72 but at GYC in Orlando, I allowed to, 00:34:02.75\00:34:05.52 I was actually asked to present a seminar on the book, 00:34:05.55\00:34:08.45 The Great Controversy. 00:34:08.48\00:34:09.72 And, I've read that book about five times 00:34:09.75\00:34:12.20 and so I need, it needs to be reread every-- 00:34:12.23\00:34:14.73 I think I'm to reread it once a year. 00:34:14.76\00:34:17.46 But it is, it's so powerful, 00:34:17.49\00:34:18.92 but to present a seminar there 00:34:18.95\00:34:20.20 and to share it with some of the other people came, 00:34:20.23\00:34:22.51 what God was doing in my life and it was just, 00:34:22.54\00:34:25.54 it was such a blessing. 00:34:25.57\00:34:26.73 I was going to say, that must have been amazing, 00:34:26.76\00:34:28.87 because here you'd just been at GYC two years before, 00:34:28.90\00:34:31.09 it made a major transformation, by God's grace in your life, 00:34:31.12\00:34:35.11 then to be asked, you said you were asked, 00:34:35.14\00:34:37.21 couple of years later to come back. 00:34:37.24\00:34:38.71 How special that must have been. 00:34:38.74\00:34:40.81 Yes, I think Justin might have had to do something with that. 00:34:40.84\00:34:43.18 He didn't personally call me, 00:34:43.21\00:34:44.91 but he I think might have put a bug in someone's year, 00:34:44.94\00:34:47.13 I think you can call my old history teacher, 00:34:47.16\00:34:48.88 but I think he even realized 00:34:48.91\00:34:50.69 that I was making some big changes 00:34:50.72\00:34:53.19 in terms of just a desire to talk about spiritual things, 00:34:53.22\00:34:56.02 you know, when you really love Jesus, 00:34:56.05\00:34:57.74 it just overflows in your life naturally. 00:34:57.77\00:34:59.89 It's not forced, it's something that you just 00:34:59.92\00:35:02.18 want to talk about all the time. 00:35:02.21\00:35:04.14 And, so some was students, actually my son was a freshman 00:35:04.17\00:35:07.20 at Mount Pisgah Academy just last year, 00:35:07.23\00:35:09.04 they asked and said, 00:35:09.07\00:35:10.19 does your family do anything besides talk about 00:35:10.22\00:35:12.28 the Bible when you're at home. 00:35:12.31\00:35:13.92 And, my son Jacob said, 00:35:13.95\00:35:15.41 no that's pretty much all they talk about. 00:35:15.44\00:35:17.38 Because my wife and I are on the same page, 00:35:17.41\00:35:18.99 we're like minded in that and so we just talk about 00:35:19.02\00:35:22.31 what is it God wants us to do next. 00:35:22.34\00:35:24.01 And, she enjoys, like I mentioned off camera 00:35:24.04\00:35:27.39 that prayed the same prayer 00:35:27.42\00:35:28.90 which I think is mentioned in the book, 00:35:28.93\00:35:30.12 The Great Controversy, William Miller said, 00:35:30.15\00:35:31.59 I will go and speak for you, Lord, 00:35:31.62\00:35:34.15 when he had this burning conviction 00:35:34.18\00:35:35.65 that Jesus was coming soon, 00:35:35.68\00:35:37.24 but just please have someone invite me, 00:35:37.27\00:35:39.31 because he'd never been invited anywhere. 00:35:39.34\00:35:41.02 Well, I thought, similarly, I'm really nobody. 00:35:41.05\00:35:43.73 No one's going to call me. 00:35:43.76\00:35:45.26 Well, after I prayed that prayer 00:35:45.29\00:35:46.58 it wasn't 30 minutes later, 00:35:46.61\00:35:48.21 but I believe it was actually less than a week later. 00:35:48.24\00:35:50.66 That I was contacted by a local pastor 00:35:50.69\00:35:52.57 in the area where I live and he said, 00:35:52.60\00:35:54.78 you know, would you be willing to speak for me 00:35:54.81\00:35:57.23 in a couple of months here at such and such a church. 00:35:57.26\00:35:59.58 And, since that time about four years ago, 00:35:59.61\00:36:02.34 I've tried to keep track, 00:36:02.37\00:36:04.10 I've spoken at I think 13 of 14 00:36:04.13\00:36:05.89 different churches all by invitation. 00:36:05.92\00:36:08.98 And, so I just praise the Lord 00:36:09.01\00:36:11.08 for the opportunity to speak for Him. 00:36:11.11\00:36:12.32 And, so while I'm still scared of public speaking, 00:36:12.35\00:36:14.86 when you really love Jesus, when you really Jesus, 00:36:14.89\00:36:19.00 that grows so much to such a degree 00:36:19.03\00:36:21.38 that it overpowers the fears and concerns of personal-- 00:36:21.41\00:36:27.39 what if I look bad, what if I sound bad, 00:36:27.42\00:36:29.32 what if I say something that isn't clear in someway, 00:36:29.35\00:36:32.43 if I can talk about my best friend Jesus 00:36:32.46\00:36:34.44 then I'm going to take that opportunity every time 00:36:34.47\00:36:37.18 if it's at all possible, I'm going to take that chance. 00:36:37.21\00:36:39.43 So... 00:36:39.46\00:36:40.54 encourage our listeners to get out and try 00:36:40.57\00:36:43.12 and find places where Jesus will call you to do his work 00:36:43.15\00:36:46.87 because there's a lot of work to be done. 00:36:46.90\00:36:49.35 Amen. 00:36:49.38\00:36:50.41 Thank you for saying that, 00:36:50.44\00:36:51.47 'cause I think God has a call in each one of our lives. 00:36:51.50\00:36:54.13 You know, we're not all called to go out and preach, 00:36:54.16\00:36:56.82 we're called to do ministry and many different facets 00:36:56.85\00:36:59.84 and avenues and I don't where you are today 00:36:59.87\00:37:01.67 and you walk with Jesus but listening to Brian here, 00:37:01.70\00:37:05.17 and my heart is so blessed and I see the anointing 00:37:05.20\00:37:08.19 of the Holy Spirit over his life 00:37:08.22\00:37:10.02 and I just see what God is doing in his life 00:37:10.05\00:37:13.36 and I just want to encourage you at home. 00:37:13.39\00:37:15.23 Open up your hearts to the Lord Jesus. 00:37:15.26\00:37:17.43 Say, okay, God, I'm going to reprioritize my time, 00:37:17.46\00:37:21.10 I'm going to put first the kingdom of God 00:37:21.13\00:37:23.75 and His righteousness, 00:37:23.78\00:37:25.09 and know then that God is going to pour 00:37:25.12\00:37:27.00 in these abundant blessings. 00:37:27.03\00:37:28.55 And, so we're going to give you, 00:37:28.58\00:37:30.16 in a few moments at the end of the program, 00:37:30.19\00:37:31.74 we want to make sure we give you Brian's contact information 00:37:31.77\00:37:34.83 if you would like to invite him to come to your church 00:37:34.86\00:37:37.40 or your area to speak 00:37:37.43\00:37:38.67 'cause he's a passionate testimony 00:37:38.70\00:37:41.01 of what God is doing in his life. 00:37:41.04\00:37:42.50 But we want to see what God is doing currently, 00:37:42.53\00:37:45.27 you have just, you've been teaching 00:37:45.30\00:37:47.74 seventeen and a half years and God is like Abraham, 00:37:47.77\00:37:50.59 calling you and your wife out form this and saying, 00:37:50.62\00:37:53.93 now I'm calling you into full time ministry. 00:37:53.96\00:37:56.60 So tell us about that and that decision. 00:37:56.63\00:37:58.59 Well, you know, life has it's challenges 00:37:58.62\00:38:02.13 and about a year ago my adopted father, 00:38:02.16\00:38:05.13 pastor Charles Hindman, 00:38:05.16\00:38:06.21 he passed away unexpectedly from a heart attack. 00:38:06.24\00:38:08.41 Sorry. 00:38:08.44\00:38:09.47 And, it was, I had already been preaching 00:38:09.50\00:38:12.34 in some his churches he had invited me, 00:38:12.37\00:38:14.08 that was, he was still pasturing at the age of 71. 00:38:14.11\00:38:17.53 He did not want to retire, he had said, 00:38:17.56\00:38:19.47 I don't see retirement in the Bible 00:38:19.50\00:38:20.68 so as long as I can work I'm going to keep working. 00:38:20.71\00:38:22.99 Praise the Lord. 00:38:23.02\00:38:24.08 He had just such a love of truth 00:38:24.11\00:38:25.92 and love of Jesus Christ, 00:38:25.95\00:38:27.01 Who is the Way, the Truth and the Life, 00:38:27.04\00:38:28.67 and so I, after he passed away, 00:38:28.70\00:38:32.17 when he came into the church he never really had a pastor 00:38:32.20\00:38:34.49 because he spent over 40 years of his life in ministry. 00:38:34.52\00:38:37.52 When I found out, in the middle of the night 00:38:37.55\00:38:39.84 I got a phone call that said 00:38:39.87\00:38:40.97 that he had passed away from a heart attack, 00:38:41.00\00:38:43.16 I decide I want to preach the sermon. 00:38:43.19\00:38:46.25 I said, this would be an extreme test of my faith, 00:38:46.28\00:38:49.01 but I want to do it. 00:38:49.04\00:38:50.47 At the funeral. 00:38:50.50\00:38:51.53 At his funeral, and so I said, I want to do this 00:38:51.56\00:38:54.88 and even though conference President 00:38:54.91\00:38:56.61 was there all conference officials, 00:38:56.64\00:38:58.77 you know, when a pastor passes away, 00:38:58.80\00:38:59.90 there were many other pastors 00:38:59.93\00:39:01.10 that were there of his colleagues 00:39:01.13\00:39:02.79 from years from the Carolinas. 00:39:02.82\00:39:04.72 But I said, I want to be the one, 00:39:04.75\00:39:06.39 as weak and feeble as I am preach a message 00:39:06.42\00:39:09.46 that I believe my dad would want to hear 00:39:09.49\00:39:12.84 and would really appreciate. 00:39:12.87\00:39:14.89 And, so I got up and the Lord helped me 00:39:14.92\00:39:16.76 to be able to preach The Three Angels message, 00:39:16.79\00:39:19.80 The Blessed Hope of the Resurrection, 00:39:19.83\00:39:22.62 right over my own father's casket and so-- 00:39:22.65\00:39:26.06 but it was a huge blessing and I'll always treasure 00:39:26.09\00:39:28.39 that as one of the greatest privileges in my life 00:39:28.42\00:39:30.72 to preach the gospel over the man 00:39:30.75\00:39:32.70 who adopted me and gave me all those advantages 00:39:32.73\00:39:35.44 that finally the Lord, finally I chose, 00:39:35.47\00:39:37.72 it's still a choice to actually engage 00:39:37.75\00:39:42.04 and take advantage of what God had done for me. 00:39:42.07\00:39:45.05 And, so but from that point, 00:39:45.08\00:39:46.89 it wasn't just a knee-jerk reaction 00:39:46.92\00:39:48.39 because my dad passed away but I thought, 00:39:48.42\00:39:50.42 you know, I want to stand in the place 00:39:50.45\00:39:51.85 where my dad had once stood, I want to go out, 00:39:51.88\00:39:54.00 whether it's evangelism, whether its pastoral ministry, 00:39:54.03\00:39:56.75 some type if revival ministry, 00:39:56.78\00:39:58.48 I want to do something more for the lord, 00:39:58.51\00:40:00.63 and so I have recently just resigned my position 00:40:00.66\00:40:06.19 working as a history teacher at Mount Pisgah Academy and-- 00:40:06.22\00:40:09.56 That's a difficult decision. 00:40:09.59\00:40:10.65 It was very difficult. 00:40:10.68\00:40:12.52 I was asked to do the final vespers of our school year 00:40:12.55\00:40:15.49 and preach the sermon, I made a call for repentance, 00:40:15.52\00:40:18.62 and a call for surrender to Jesus 00:40:18.65\00:40:20.67 at the very close of the school year, 00:40:20.70\00:40:22.06 and pretty much the whole school came forward 00:40:22.09\00:40:24.24 and all together, I asked the entire school 00:40:24.27\00:40:26.63 to hug me at the same time. 00:40:26.66\00:40:28.18 And so for about half an hour, 00:40:28.21\00:40:30.53 I was just in a suffocating hug with high school students, 00:40:30.56\00:40:33.89 but I will treasure that forever 00:40:33.92\00:40:35.31 because there were tears shed, 00:40:35.34\00:40:37.29 but I hoped that it was with the conviction 00:40:37.32\00:40:39.24 that Jesus has a calling on a young person's life 00:40:39.27\00:40:41.53 especially because they have a lifetime of good they can do. 00:40:41.56\00:40:44.28 They have so much opportunities, 00:40:44.31\00:40:46.14 as a young person, that they can give themselves 00:40:46.17\00:40:48.32 and their lives to do the Lord's work. 00:40:48.35\00:40:50.21 And, so when you get to be older 00:40:50.24\00:40:51.47 you don't have as much time left to do 00:40:51.50\00:40:53.08 as much for the Lord. 00:40:53.11\00:40:54.31 And, so anyway-- 00:40:54.34\00:40:55.93 The best part, you know, as far as an educator 00:40:55.96\00:40:58.25 in the Seventh-day Adventist school system 00:40:58.28\00:41:00.48 you have the tremendous opportunity 00:41:00.51\00:41:01.97 of sharing the Gospel, 00:41:02.00\00:41:03.22 you know, with out of your seventeen and a half years? 00:41:03.25\00:41:05.40 That's a lot of young people that you have impacted. 00:41:05.43\00:41:08.41 So Christian education 00:41:08.44\00:41:09.47 is a wonderful thing but God is, 00:41:09.50\00:41:10.87 sort of, moving you in a different direction 00:41:10.90\00:41:12.94 and you stepped out in faith 00:41:12.97\00:41:14.00 'cause you said you just resigned not long ago. 00:41:14.03\00:41:17.78 Can I ask you a question? 00:41:17.81\00:41:18.84 Yes, sir. 00:41:18.87\00:41:19.91 Was that scary? 00:41:19.94\00:41:21.69 It is, but there is a verse in the Bible 00:41:21.72\00:41:24.41 that my dad actually was watching a sermon, 00:41:24.44\00:41:29.13 he was a sermon by Dan Gabbert, 00:41:29.16\00:41:32.32 shortly, right before he had a heart attack 00:41:32.35\00:41:34.38 and I have a notepad that he was writing on 00:41:34.41\00:41:36.37 and he had written on there, you know, 00:41:36.40\00:41:38.78 Dan Gabbert talks a lot about the mind 00:41:38.81\00:41:40.47 and anyway he'd written on there Isaiah 26 verse 3, 00:41:40.50\00:41:44.22 which says, "Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, 00:41:44.25\00:41:46.90 whose mind is stayed on thee, because he trusteth in thee", 00:41:46.93\00:41:50.18 and so I used that very verse even for the funeral 00:41:50.21\00:41:53.44 for my own father that, 00:41:53.47\00:41:54.70 that is not based on, it doesn't say 00:41:54.73\00:41:57.00 if you're conditions around you, 00:41:57.03\00:41:58.26 if you lose a parent, if you lose a spouse, 00:41:58.29\00:42:00.47 or you lose your job, that you're suddenly 00:42:00.50\00:42:02.76 not going to have perfect peace. 00:42:02.79\00:42:03.92 That is condition that says, 00:42:03.95\00:42:05.16 if your mind has stayed on Christ that you will have, 00:42:05.19\00:42:08.17 the promise says, you will have perfect peace. 00:42:08.20\00:42:10.28 And, while I don't know where God is calling me to go, 00:42:10.31\00:42:12.72 I believe that he has something that he wants me to do, 00:42:12.75\00:42:15.71 he has a hold on my life 00:42:15.74\00:42:17.24 and I'm just willing to do that. 00:42:17.27\00:42:18.92 I wasn't always willing to go 00:42:18.95\00:42:20.86 and do whatever he wants me to do. 00:42:20.89\00:42:22.92 But I believe now-- 00:42:22.95\00:42:25.08 That reminds me of Abraham. 00:42:25.11\00:42:27.01 You know, stepping out God called him 00:42:27.04\00:42:28.53 to a country he'd never been to before 00:42:28.56\00:42:30.13 but he knew that God was calling him out, 00:42:30.16\00:42:31.88 and so he obeyed and he listened 00:42:31.91\00:42:33.59 and that's what I feel that you and your family, 00:42:33.62\00:42:35.42 your wife your son are doing 00:42:35.45\00:42:36.93 and I know God is blessing you in a proper way. 00:42:36.96\00:42:39.03 And, I know off-air you were talking 00:42:39.06\00:42:40.64 about your love of the scriptures 00:42:40.67\00:42:42.72 and the word of God and share a little bit of that to us 00:42:42.75\00:42:46.53 and to our viewers as well. 00:42:46.56\00:42:47.81 Oh, I would love to do that. 00:42:47.84\00:42:48.93 This is a real treasure. 00:42:48.96\00:42:51.15 I want to-- can I quickly share 00:42:51.18\00:42:52.41 three things about the Bible that are just amazing to me. 00:42:52.44\00:42:54.84 It's three amazing facts about the Bible. 00:42:54.87\00:42:57.04 Number one, the Bible is alive. 00:42:57.07\00:43:00.00 And, what I mean by that, 00:43:00.03\00:43:01.17 1st Peter chapter 1 verse 23 says, 00:43:01.20\00:43:03.58 "Being born again, not of corruptible seed, 00:43:03.61\00:43:06.12 but of incorruptible by the word of God 00:43:06.15\00:43:09.08 which liveth and abideth forever." 00:43:09.11\00:43:11.98 And, so the word "abide" means continuing on, 00:43:12.01\00:43:14.49 it lives and abides being born, 00:43:14.52\00:43:16.52 how, how are we spiritually born, 00:43:16.55\00:43:18.35 it is by receiving by faith the word of God. 00:43:18.38\00:43:20.99 Yeah, into our lives. 00:43:21.02\00:43:22.09 And, so the word of God is alive 00:43:22.12\00:43:23.70 and that's also Hebrew's 4:12, "For the word of God is quick 00:43:23.73\00:43:26.55 and powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword." 00:43:26.58\00:43:29.19 It is quick, the word "quick" 00:43:29.22\00:43:30.63 in the King James is "living and active". 00:43:30.66\00:43:32.79 It is a energetic, it gives life to us. 00:43:32.82\00:43:36.56 The book of education, page 126, 00:43:36.59\00:43:39.01 actually says, "The creative energy that spoke 00:43:39.04\00:43:41.97 the world into existence", 00:43:42.00\00:43:43.51 is where, is in the word of God. 00:43:43.54\00:43:46.72 It imparts power, it imparts life 00:43:46.75\00:43:49.11 and so the same power that spoke the worlds 00:43:49.14\00:43:51.57 into existence will also give us 00:43:51.60\00:43:54.32 a spiritual life as we receive it by faith 00:43:54.35\00:43:56.77 and behold it by faith. 00:43:56.80\00:43:57.95 So number one, the word of God is alive. 00:43:57.98\00:43:59.99 And, so when you come in contact 00:44:00.02\00:44:01.16 with the living principles of the word of God 00:44:01.19\00:44:03.07 it will give you spiritual life as Matthew 4:4 says. 00:44:03.10\00:44:05.75 We live on two things, physical food 00:44:05.78\00:44:07.76 but not just bread, but by every word, 00:44:07.79\00:44:10.75 the spiritual food we live on is the word of God. 00:44:10.78\00:44:12.81 Number two, Ephesians chapter 6 verse 17 says, 00:44:12.84\00:44:16.40 "And take the helmet of salvation 00:44:16.43\00:44:18.18 and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God." 00:44:18.21\00:44:21.20 This is our weapon in The Great Controversy. 00:44:21.23\00:44:23.55 This is our weapon to defend ourselves. 00:44:23.58\00:44:26.03 Hebrews 4:12 says, the word of God 00:44:26.06\00:44:27.75 is sharper than any two-edged sword. 00:44:27.78\00:44:29.90 Also I like 2nd Corinthians 10:4 which says, 00:44:29.93\00:44:32.83 "For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal 00:44:32.86\00:44:36.47 but mighty through God 00:44:36.50\00:44:37.68 to the pulling down of strongholds." 00:44:37.71\00:44:39.30 The Spirit of prophecy says, 00:44:39.33\00:44:40.61 "The weapons of our warfare are the scriptures." 00:44:40.64\00:44:43.72 When Jesus was under attack in the wilderness, 00:44:43.75\00:44:46.03 he met every attack with "Thus saith the Lord", 00:44:46.06\00:44:49.17 and so this doesn't do me as much good 00:44:49.20\00:44:51.70 if it's across the room and I don't know it, 00:44:51.73\00:44:54.08 than if the devil comes at me 00:44:54.11\00:44:55.70 and I'm in my car and I don't have my Bible on me in someway, 00:44:55.73\00:44:58.35 if I have it my mind I'm able to then defend myself 00:44:58.38\00:45:01.72 from that temptation or whatever 00:45:01.75\00:45:03.60 that attack might be because I know the of God. 00:45:03.63\00:45:05.96 And, then thirdly, Psalm 138 verse 2, 00:45:05.99\00:45:09.74 David writes and says, 00:45:09.77\00:45:10.85 "I will worship toward thy holy temple, 00:45:10.88\00:45:12.84 and praise name for thy loving kindness 00:45:12.87\00:45:14.95 and for thy truth." 00:45:14.98\00:45:16.02 For what? 00:45:16.05\00:45:17.09 "For thou has magnified thy word above all thy name." 00:45:17.12\00:45:20.98 God's word is magnified to such a position, 00:45:21.01\00:45:23.04 it's even Himself magnified above his own name. 00:45:23.07\00:45:26.51 If God places that much special emphasis on His word, 00:45:26.54\00:45:29.94 how much emphasis do we place upon it? 00:45:29.97\00:45:32.33 And, in the book education in that same chapter 00:45:32.36\00:45:34.62 I was referring to earlier, 00:45:34.65\00:45:35.77 a few paragraphs earlier, page 124, it says, 00:45:35.80\00:45:39.45 "As a means of intellectual training, 00:45:39.48\00:45:41.28 the Bible is more effective than any other book, 00:45:41.31\00:45:45.22 or all other books combined." 00:45:45.25\00:45:48.62 You can take an entire Barnes & Noble in one hand, 00:45:48.65\00:45:51.85 if you could put it in your hand, 00:45:51.88\00:45:53.24 and the Bible in the other, 00:45:53.27\00:45:54.57 and everything at Barnes & Noble 00:45:54.60\00:45:55.95 cannot develop your mind 00:45:55.98\00:45:57.72 the same way, intellectually 00:45:57.75\00:45:58.81 and spiritually, as this one book. 00:45:58.84\00:46:01.07 So it's magnified and exalted by God 00:46:01.10\00:46:03.45 to such a magnified position that, 00:46:03.48\00:46:05.31 you know, we should want to spend time with it 00:46:05.34\00:46:07.37 and especially to memorize it and so that's what I'm excited 00:46:07.40\00:46:10.16 and encourage my students to do at the Bible class. 00:46:10.19\00:46:12.87 Amen. 00:46:12.90\00:46:13.93 So you've done a lot of Bible memorization, 00:46:13.96\00:46:15.78 you and your family? 00:46:15.81\00:46:16.84 Do you do it at worship time? 00:46:16.87\00:46:18.39 We do. 00:46:18.42\00:46:19.46 We've got Ten Commandments, Three Angels messages, 00:46:19.49\00:46:22.03 Psalm 91, working on Psalm 103, um, Isaiah 55. 00:46:22.06\00:46:27.53 We do that for our worship 00:46:27.56\00:46:29.30 but also we read Spirit prophecy for our worship 00:46:29.33\00:46:31.45 and of course we read right out of scriptures for our worship. 00:46:31.48\00:46:33.32 We're also following the Revived 00:46:33.35\00:46:34.52 by His word program. 00:46:34.55\00:46:36.24 It is amazing. 00:46:36.27\00:46:37.38 I have my students following that at school 00:46:37.41\00:46:39.96 and it has been a blessing. 00:46:39.99\00:46:42.22 I don't get out of bed every day 00:46:42.25\00:46:43.40 until I read a scripture from the word of God 00:46:43.43\00:46:46.78 and try to review some of my memory verses. 00:46:46.81\00:46:48.62 Amen. Yeah, fantastic. 00:46:48.65\00:46:50.79 You know, I was going to say-- 00:46:50.82\00:46:51.88 were you going to say something? 00:46:51.91\00:46:52.95 No, go ahead. 00:46:52.98\00:46:54.04 Okay, for the word of God 00:46:54.07\00:46:55.12 you are talking about, you mentioned it briefly about 00:46:55.15\00:46:57.85 why we need to have the word of God in our lives. 00:46:57.88\00:47:00.87 Just expound upon that just a little bit 00:47:00.90\00:47:02.27 because this is very important. 00:47:02.30\00:47:03.77 You're talking about when you put the word of God in you 00:47:03.80\00:47:06.38 and let's say you don't have your Bible with you 00:47:06.41\00:47:07.88 or even if you do, 00:47:07.91\00:47:08.94 it's powerful to memorize scripture isn't it? 00:47:08.97\00:47:11.44 Tell us, expound upon a little bit about that. 00:47:11.47\00:47:12.56 It's changing me. 00:47:12.59\00:47:13.62 When you actually memorize the word of God, 00:47:13.65\00:47:15.39 see like I said, I grew up as a pastor's kid, 00:47:15.42\00:47:17.16 I've heard thousands of sermons, 00:47:17.19\00:47:18.72 I've been around spiritual truth and I can, kind of, 00:47:18.75\00:47:21.51 if someone started a verse I can mumble a part of it 00:47:21.54\00:47:23.65 may be, or bits and pieces. 00:47:23.68\00:47:26.20 But to just know it and have the whole thing 00:47:26.23\00:47:28.57 and it is just-- as I mentioned 00:47:28.60\00:47:30.62 to you off-camera, 00:47:30.65\00:47:31.68 I have found myself thinking in the word of God. 00:47:31.71\00:47:33.73 you know as my thoughts, I think in verses 00:47:33.76\00:47:36.37 and so I really treasure the opportunity 00:47:36.40\00:47:38.29 to speak with other people that treasure the word of God 00:47:38.32\00:47:41.26 because we can just, we talk to each other 00:47:41.29\00:47:43.03 with almost just Bible verses. 00:47:43.06\00:47:44.27 It's like the same language. 00:47:44.30\00:47:45.40 It's the same, right it is. 00:47:45.43\00:47:46.61 And, so it is so powerful, it is transformative, 00:47:46.64\00:47:49.65 as Romans 12:2 says, "Be not conformed to this world 00:47:49.68\00:47:53.37 but be transformed by the renewing of your mind." 00:47:53.40\00:47:55.42 It's like Corinthians 18 which you were referring 00:47:55.45\00:47:57.16 to earlier about beholding, 00:47:57.19\00:47:59.17 as in the glass the glory of the Lord 00:47:59.20\00:48:00.57 are changed into the same image. 00:48:00.60\00:48:02.16 We behold Him in His word. 00:48:02.19\00:48:04.32 His character comes through in His word 00:48:04.35\00:48:06.18 and so when you have that 00:48:06.21\00:48:07.82 then you have the very life of God. 00:48:07.85\00:48:09.39 Amen. 00:48:09.42\00:48:10.47 Amen. He's a preacher. 00:48:10.50\00:48:11.67 Yeah, I know I was just thinking that here, 00:48:11.70\00:48:13.48 the Lord has given you a great gift. 00:48:13.51\00:48:14.54 Amen. 00:48:14.57\00:48:15.67 That's the Lord, that's the Holy Spirit, 00:48:15.70\00:48:18.21 that-- spending time in the word, 00:48:18.24\00:48:20.05 and we did not get to this 00:48:20.08\00:48:21.14 but we want to make sure we do get to this. 00:48:21.17\00:48:23.76 God has called you and your wife 00:48:23.79\00:48:26.36 into some sort of a full-time ministry 00:48:26.39\00:48:28.71 and in preparation for either pastoral 00:48:28.74\00:48:31.79 or evangelism or something, you're going to school, 00:48:31.82\00:48:34.56 or you're getting ready to go to school. 00:48:34.59\00:48:35.63 Yes, ma'am, I've applied for Amazing Facts 00:48:35.66\00:48:37.58 College of Evangelism. 00:48:37.61\00:48:38.90 And I've been accepted already, 00:48:38.93\00:48:40.37 so I'm forward to attending there this fall 00:48:40.40\00:48:43.37 but when that course complete there, 00:48:43.40\00:48:45.17 I have no job, no income, 00:48:45.20\00:48:47.67 no plans other than to just see where God leads. 00:48:47.70\00:48:50.18 Well, we know that God has a plan, doesn't He? 00:48:50.21\00:48:51.78 I know He does. 00:48:51.81\00:48:52.84 Yes, just like walking forward by faith. 00:48:52.87\00:48:54.79 Amen.
