I want to spend my life
00:00:01.40\00:00:07.35
Mending broken people
00:00:07.38\00:00:12.33
I want to spend my life
00:00:12.36\00:00:18.61
Removing pain
00:00:18.64\00:00:23.66
Lord, let my wrod
00:00:23.69\00:00:29.88
Heal a heart that hurts
00:00:29.91\00:00:34.48
I want to spend my life
00:00:34.51\00:00:40.15
Mending broken people
00:00:40.18\00:00:45.72
I want to spend my life
00:00:45.75\00:00:51.18
Mending broken people
00:00:51.21\00:00:55.26
Hello, and
welcome to 3ABN Today.
00:01:07.11\00:01:09.31
My name is C.A. Murray
00:01:09.34\00:01:10.91
and allow me once
again to thank you
00:01:10.94\00:01:12.69
for sharing just a
little of your busy day with us.
00:01:12.72\00:01:15.81
I thank you for all
that you do to support 3ABN
00:01:15.84\00:01:18.99
for your love, your
prayers and for watching
00:01:19.02\00:01:22.51
what we have to
offer because we know that
00:01:22.54\00:01:24.97
we couldn't do what we do unless
00:01:25.00\00:01:26.86
we have your
partnership and your assistance.
00:01:26.89\00:01:28.68
So thank you so very much.
00:01:28.71\00:01:30.08
Wonderful program,
today we got a young lady
00:01:30.11\00:01:32.07
with a great story, a
great testimony one that
00:01:32.10\00:01:35.31
perhaps many of
you can relate to.
00:01:35.34\00:01:37.82
And my guest is Marla Ilona.
00:01:37.85\00:01:39.87
Marla, good to have you here.
00:01:39.90\00:01:41.11
Thank you so much, C.A.
It's wonderful to be here.
00:01:41.14\00:01:43.68
You see the bright smile,
00:01:43.71\00:01:44.99
and just a lovely
person for the Lord.
00:01:45.02\00:01:48.17
A lot to tell
us and a lot to say
00:01:48.20\00:01:50.22
and you want to stick by
00:01:50.25\00:01:51.99
and kind of give ear to this one
00:01:52.02\00:01:53.12
because I'm sure you
will hear something that
00:01:53.15\00:01:54.76
will encourage
you and inspire you
00:01:54.79\00:01:57.65
as together we walk this
road that leads to glory.
00:01:57.68\00:02:00.03
Marla, I want to jump
right into a couple of things
00:02:00.06\00:02:01.67
before we go to our music.
00:02:01.70\00:02:03.15
Number one, where are you from?
00:02:03.18\00:02:06.33
I'm originally from Puerto Rico.
00:02:06.36\00:02:07.90
My mother is Puerto Rican
and that's my family roots are.
00:02:07.93\00:02:11.89
I lived there as a
child and went to school there
00:02:11.92\00:02:15.95
and then I left.
00:02:15.98\00:02:17.01
I traveled and lived
in many places after that
00:02:17.04\00:02:19.15
but that's what I consider home.
00:02:19.18\00:02:20.44
Yeah, and we are gonna
touch some of those places
00:02:20.47\00:02:22.13
because you've kind of been
around the world little bit.
00:02:22.16\00:02:24.73
You've done some traveling.
00:02:24.76\00:02:25.90
Bilingual?
00:02:25.93\00:02:27.12
Yes, trilingual actually.
I speak French and Spanish.
00:02:27.15\00:02:29.52
Oh, bless your heart.
00:02:29.55\00:02:31.16
Marla, give us some
sense of your home growing up.
00:02:31.19\00:02:33.21
Was it a Christian home?
00:02:33.24\00:02:34.72
Just some flavor of
the-- your home growing up?
00:02:34.75\00:02:37.25
Well, my mom would go to church
00:02:37.28\00:02:40.25
and my dad would
go along with her
00:02:40.28\00:02:42.01
and they would bring me along
and I was a rebellious child.
00:02:42.04\00:02:45.46
I didn't like to go to church.
00:02:45.49\00:02:46.73
I didn't like
the Catholic Church.
00:02:46.76\00:02:48.26
It just didn't resonate with me.
00:02:48.29\00:02:49.74
I also went to Catholic school
00:02:49.77\00:02:53.15
and I'm sorry to say
it just never resonated
00:02:53.18\00:02:57.39
and you know, then
when things got really bad
00:02:57.42\00:03:01.31
between my mom and my dad,
00:03:01.34\00:03:03.77
part of my family
had always been Adventist
00:03:03.80\00:03:06.40
and then a part of the family
00:03:06.43\00:03:08.81
through that other
branch converted to Adventism
00:03:08.84\00:03:12.56
and in that wave
my mom and my brother
00:03:12.59\00:03:15.22
converted to Adventism.
00:03:15.25\00:03:17.43
I had already left but
they started praying for me
00:03:17.46\00:03:22.76
and I think that was
the key to everything
00:03:22.79\00:03:25.35
that happened
afterwards was the fact that
00:03:25.38\00:03:27.52
I had a praying family
00:03:27.55\00:03:28.94
and that they were
praying for my salvation.
00:03:28.97\00:03:31.25
Now you got out of
the house fairly early,
00:03:31.28\00:03:33.86
you know, as a teenager.
00:03:33.89\00:03:35.46
That's right. Yeah.
00:03:35.49\00:03:36.53
Yeah.
00:03:36.56\00:03:37.59
Was that here in the
States or back in Puerto Rico?
00:03:37.62\00:03:39.34
That was in Puerto Rico
00:03:39.37\00:03:40.43
because I did
my undergrad there.
00:03:40.46\00:03:42.51
Yeah, so I shared an apartment
with other college students
00:03:42.54\00:03:45.89
and when I finished my undergrad
00:03:45.92\00:03:47.51
then I went back to New York,
did some graduate work there,
00:03:47.54\00:03:51.00
got my first job and
it was through that job,
00:03:51.03\00:03:53.78
that company
that I went to Japan,
00:03:53.81\00:03:55.71
I had a one year contract
00:03:55.74\00:03:57.21
and that's how I ended
up in Japan for a year.
00:03:57.24\00:03:59.52
Okay, we will come
back that sort of mind
00:03:59.55\00:04:01.36
that just a little bit.
00:04:01.39\00:04:03.35
Your parents
converted to Adventism,
00:04:03.38\00:04:07.06
where you aware
of that at the time
00:04:07.09\00:04:08.26
when they made that change
00:04:08.29\00:04:09.83
because you
were out on your own,
00:04:09.86\00:04:11.43
you know, doing your own thing?
00:04:11.46\00:04:12.63
Right, no, I was
not really aware of it.
00:04:12.66\00:04:15.73
I was living my own
life and I mean, I knew that
00:04:15.76\00:04:19.09
they had a religious practice.
00:04:19.12\00:04:21.30
My dad-- at this point
00:04:21.33\00:04:22.58
my dad abandoned us.
00:04:22.61\00:04:24.30
My dad actually left
so it was really my mom
00:04:24.33\00:04:27.23
and my brother
who remained at home.
00:04:27.26\00:04:30.30
When I would come
once in a while to visit
00:04:30.33\00:04:32.84
there was always lot of prayer
00:04:32.87\00:04:35.29
and it was a very
holy environment in a way
00:04:35.32\00:04:39.78
and that was good.
00:04:39.81\00:04:40.85
I did enjoy that but
I was still resistant
00:04:40.88\00:04:44.58
for many years I was resistant
and it didn't really touch me.
00:04:44.61\00:04:47.68
So your mom and
brother practiced their faith?
00:04:47.71\00:04:50.33
Definitely, yes, yes.
00:04:50.36\00:04:52.57
And obviously during those times
00:04:52.60\00:04:54.18
when you were
with them you saw that?
00:04:54.21\00:04:55.87
Yes. Okay, all right.
00:04:55.90\00:04:57.11
Let's put a
little pin right there.
00:04:57.14\00:04:58.32
We want to go to our music
00:04:58.35\00:05:00.28
because as we are leaving
Marla is out of the faith
00:05:00.31\00:05:04.56
but there are members of
family who are in the faith
00:05:04.59\00:05:06.62
and we are gonna try to
connect all that together,
00:05:06.65\00:05:08.76
bring to desk together and
see what God has done for her
00:05:08.79\00:05:10.59
because He's given a
really a marvelous testimony
00:05:10.62\00:05:13.01
and a marvelous ministry.
00:05:13.04\00:05:14.66
But before we sort of un-package
00:05:14.69\00:05:16.07
the rest of her story,
Emily Felts-Jones stands by
00:05:16.10\00:05:19.28
and she is going to be
singing "Wandering Heart."
00:05:19.31\00:05:23.25
Sometime long ago
00:05:35.35\00:05:38.64
This heart had a home
00:05:38.67\00:05:41.46
On saving Your haven
00:05:41.49\00:05:44.35
Now lost on their own
00:05:44.38\00:05:47.43
Somewhere along way
00:05:47.46\00:05:50.22
This heart went astray
00:05:50.25\00:05:53.30
World and its
pleasures cast a spell
00:05:53.33\00:05:57.28
That won't bring
00:05:57.31\00:05:59.62
Lose these bands
00:05:59.65\00:06:01.77
That bind this wandering heart
00:06:01.80\00:06:06.21
I'm helpless to walk away now
00:06:06.24\00:06:11.53
Come ever near to remind me
00:06:11.56\00:06:14.80
No matter how far
00:06:14.83\00:06:17.64
In Your strength I
will find a way out
00:06:17.67\00:06:22.92
And though I've
lost my direction
00:06:22.95\00:06:25.92
I want to be where You are
00:06:25.95\00:06:30.11
Don't stop moving
this wandering heart
00:06:30.14\00:06:36.61
Someway through this noise
00:06:45.11\00:06:48.19
I still hear my name
00:06:48.22\00:06:50.94
And Your voice soft and gentle
00:06:50.97\00:06:54.28
Sooths all my pain
00:06:54.31\00:06:57.11
Some choices I've made
00:06:57.14\00:06:59.36
Put You far from my sight
00:06:59.39\00:07:02.57
But I know there is a candle
00:07:02.60\00:07:05.82
Burning tonight
00:07:05.85\00:07:08.74
I still see the light
00:07:08.77\00:07:11.30
Somehow You always knew
00:07:11.33\00:07:14.31
This heart would return
00:07:14.34\00:07:17.02
And in grace and forgiveness
00:07:17.05\00:07:19.77
each lesson that I've learned
00:07:19.80\00:07:22.98
And someday I will
know how You waited for me
00:07:23.01\00:07:28.80
Your love ever patient
00:07:28.83\00:07:31.64
Ever making me free
00:07:31.67\00:07:35.52
Lose these bands
00:07:35.55\00:07:37.55
That bind this wandering heart
00:07:37.58\00:07:41.70
I'm helpless to walk away now
00:07:41.73\00:07:47.29
Come ever near to remind me
00:07:47.32\00:07:50.60
No matter how far
00:07:50.63\00:07:53.31
In Your strength I
will find a way out
00:07:53.34\00:07:58.56
And though I've
lost my direction
00:07:58.59\00:08:01.90
I want to be where You are
00:08:01.93\00:08:05.83
Don't stop moving
this wandering heart
00:08:05.86\00:08:12.24
I've been away so long
00:08:12.27\00:08:15.08
And my strings --
00:08:15.11\00:08:17.94
And I don't think I can make it
00:08:17.97\00:08:21.03
Back to You on my own
00:08:21.06\00:08:24.91
Lose these bands
00:08:27.81\00:08:29.85
That bind this wandering heart
00:08:29.89\00:08:34.09
I'm helpless to walk away now
00:08:34.12\00:08:39.65
Come ever near to remind me
00:08:39.68\00:08:42.82
No matter how far
00:08:42.85\00:08:45.39
In Your strength I
will find a way out
00:08:45.42\00:08:50.93
And though I've
lost my direction
00:08:50.96\00:08:54.01
I want to be where You are
00:08:54.04\00:08:58.05
Don't stop moving
this wandering heart
00:08:58.08\00:09:04.28
Don't give up on
this wandering heart
00:09:06.91\00:09:13.70
Amen, "Wandering Heart."
00:09:28.15\00:09:29.73
No one ever put
more joy into a song
00:09:29.76\00:09:31.78
than Emily Felts-Jones.
00:09:31.81\00:09:33.12
She loves what she does.
00:09:33.15\00:09:34.35
She loves the Lord and she loves
00:09:34.38\00:09:35.48
to minister in music and
she does a very fine job.
00:09:35.51\00:09:37.91
My guest is Marla Ilona
and when we left my lady,
00:09:37.94\00:09:41.26
you were
heading out on your own.
00:09:41.29\00:09:44.82
Give me some sense
of, you've left your home,
00:09:44.85\00:09:48.14
the home was in
trouble but your mom
00:09:48.17\00:09:51.02
and your brother found Christ,
00:09:51.05\00:09:52.22
found the
Seventh-day Adventist church
00:09:52.25\00:09:53.53
but you are out
doing your own thing.
00:09:53.56\00:09:55.49
Give me some sense of
your God consciousness
00:09:55.52\00:09:59.46
you relate to at
this point in your life.
00:09:59.49\00:10:01.63
You are in college,
you are out of the house,
00:10:01.66\00:10:04.12
going to church,
not going to church,
00:10:04.15\00:10:05.77
how, where is God, is He
part of your life at all?
00:10:05.80\00:10:08.22
No, not at all.
00:10:08.25\00:10:10.52
I was pretty much an atheist.
00:10:10.55\00:10:12.84
And when I was
doing my undergrad,
00:10:12.87\00:10:15.99
you know, Latin
America at the time
00:10:16.02\00:10:18.18
was very much
under the influence of,
00:10:18.21\00:10:21.13
you know, independist
movements in Puerto Rico
00:10:21.16\00:10:25.78
and also a radical Left Wing
00:10:25.81\00:10:29.87
influence all
throughout Latin America
00:10:29.90\00:10:31.86
so I kind of had
that culture with me
00:10:31.89\00:10:34.25
when I came back to New York.
00:10:34.28\00:10:36.19
But then that sort of war off,
00:10:36.22\00:10:37.90
I guess I adapt quickly to
whatever environment I'm in.
00:10:37.93\00:10:43.09
I quickly adapted to
the New York lifestyle.
00:10:43.12\00:10:45.93
I was there for just a
couple of years working.
00:10:45.96\00:10:49.23
And you know the big city?
00:10:49.26\00:10:51.06
Oh, yes.
00:10:51.09\00:10:52.96
You know, God was not
a part of my life at all,
00:10:52.99\00:10:55.06
I have to say.
00:10:55.09\00:10:56.15
What did you
study in college, Marla?
00:10:56.18\00:10:57.87
Oh, communication.
00:10:57.90\00:10:59.70
At grad school also?
00:10:59.73\00:11:00.89
Yes. Yes.
00:11:00.92\00:11:01.98
And then I went to Japan
00:11:02.01\00:11:04.88
and that was a very
lonely year in Japan.
00:11:04.91\00:11:08.37
It was a very different culture.
00:11:08.40\00:11:10.94
I felt isolated.
00:11:10.97\00:11:13.46
You know, Japanese
people call foreigners "gaijin."
00:11:13.49\00:11:16.77
I was a gaijin by definition.
00:11:16.80\00:11:19.51
I was trying hard but
I wasn't very prepared.
00:11:19.54\00:11:23.80
I-- you know, I
tend to very often
00:11:23.83\00:11:26.04
I still have that trait
where I will jump into action
00:11:26.07\00:11:29.35
and not necessarily think
a lot before I jump into it.
00:11:29.38\00:11:33.23
So I just went,
there was this opportunity
00:11:33.26\00:11:34.90
to take this job in Japan.
00:11:34.93\00:11:36.33
I just went for it
because I had been there once.
00:11:36.36\00:11:39.23
It was intriguing. Yes.
00:11:39.26\00:11:41.25
It was fascinating so I
wanted to go back and I did.
00:11:41.28\00:11:45.95
I hadn't really
read about the culture.
00:11:45.98\00:11:47.64
I hadn't studied very
much about the culture.
00:11:47.67\00:11:50.02
I didn't know the language.
00:11:50.05\00:11:51.65
And once I got
there I found myself to be
00:11:51.68\00:11:55.93
in something that
was so foreign really
00:11:55.96\00:11:59.41
that even reading people's
body language was difficult,
00:11:59.44\00:12:03.25
let alone
understanding their way.
00:12:03.28\00:12:04.61
What they are
saying, right, yeah, yeah.
00:12:04.64\00:12:06.60
So it was a very lonely year,
00:12:06.63\00:12:08.55
but I already had my sight
set on going to France to study
00:12:08.58\00:12:13.42
so I just
brushed up on my French
00:12:13.45\00:12:15.45
and I just put the
year to use in that way,
00:12:15.48\00:12:18.73
studying and preparing
to go to the next step.
00:12:18.76\00:12:21.14
Was your time in
Japan in your chosen field?
00:12:21.17\00:12:23.64
Was it in communications or?
00:12:23.67\00:12:25.26
Yes.
Telecommunications actually.
00:12:25.29\00:12:26.96
Okay. Okay.
00:12:26.99\00:12:29.22
Again you are in Japan,
totally different culture,
00:12:29.25\00:12:34.22
totally
different religious values.
00:12:34.25\00:12:37.23
Is anything
happening in your life
00:12:37.26\00:12:39.46
that is tweaking your conscience
00:12:39.49\00:12:41.35
or you pretty much
just on your career path
00:12:41.38\00:12:43.95
and you kind of focused on that?
00:12:43.98\00:12:45.53
Totally focused on that. Yeah.
00:12:45.56\00:12:47.13
It took me a long
time to actually have
00:12:47.16\00:12:49.96
that spiritual awakening, yeah.
00:12:49.99\00:12:51.67
So I went to France
and I was still in that,
00:12:51.70\00:12:55.17
you know, corporate
culture, careerism, all of that.
00:12:55.20\00:13:00.73
Went to school in France
00:13:00.76\00:13:02.48
when I finished my
business program there.
00:13:02.51\00:13:04.70
A company decided to hire me,
00:13:04.73\00:13:06.89
they sponsored me
for my work permit
00:13:06.92\00:13:09.01
and that's how
I was able to stay
00:13:09.04\00:13:10.52
in France and work there.
00:13:10.55\00:13:11.94
Okay, now how long
were you in France?
00:13:11.97\00:13:13.69
Twenty five years.
00:13:13.72\00:13:14.81
Really? Yes.
00:13:14.84\00:13:17.49
You don't look
that much older than 25,
00:13:17.52\00:13:19.41
you must have
got there as a baby.
00:13:19.44\00:13:21.18
Well, praise the Lord.
00:13:21.21\00:13:22.64
Twenty five years so obviously
00:13:22.67\00:13:23.75
you got a chance to get
immersed in the language.
00:13:23.78\00:13:25.30
Yes. Yeah.
00:13:25.33\00:13:26.38
So you got your Spanish,
00:13:26.41\00:13:27.47
because I took
French as a child,
00:13:27.50\00:13:30.24
as a child in grade school
00:13:30.27\00:13:32.40
and some much in high
school and a little in college.
00:13:32.43\00:13:35.18
But now that my wife is Spanish
00:13:35.21\00:13:37.16
and learning the Spanish,
00:13:37.19\00:13:38.25
I can't keep both
languages in my head
00:13:38.28\00:13:40.40
so French had to
die, had to decrease
00:13:40.43\00:13:42.27
as the Spanish increased.
00:13:42.30\00:13:43.88
But obviously you were
able to hold on to both of them.
00:13:43.91\00:13:46.70
What were you doing
actually in France, 25 years?
00:13:46.73\00:13:50.15
I worked
initially in different roles
00:13:50.18\00:13:52.58
in marketing for communications,
00:13:52.61\00:13:56.47
like more
telecommunications really
00:13:56.50\00:13:58.32
and computer companies.
00:13:58.35\00:14:01.36
Actually worked for
Microsoft for a while
00:14:01.39\00:14:03.07
as well in their
European headquarters
00:14:03.10\00:14:06.72
and then a shift
happened in my career
00:14:06.75\00:14:09.63
that was an important shift.
00:14:09.66\00:14:11.69
To this day it has had a deep--
00:14:11.72\00:14:16.27
it has left a deep impression
on me on how I function
00:14:16.30\00:14:19.67
and that is I
became a consultant
00:14:19.70\00:14:21.95
and I
specialized in organizational
00:14:21.98\00:14:24.78
change management,
organizational transformation.
00:14:24.81\00:14:28.39
That to this day
it has given me skills
00:14:28.42\00:14:32.35
that I use also in God's work.
00:14:32.38\00:14:34.08
Praise the Lord.
00:14:34.11\00:14:35.14
So working with organizations,
00:14:35.17\00:14:36.39
helping leaders to implement
change with their teams,
00:14:36.42\00:14:40.46
you know, whatever changes need
to happed within the business.
00:14:40.49\00:14:43.65
Sometimes it's more subtle,
sometimes it's cultural change
00:14:43.68\00:14:46.89
that we are trying to implement.
00:14:46.92\00:14:48.29
And that's, you
know, I just embraced that,
00:14:48.32\00:14:52.00
I really love that kind of work.
00:14:52.03\00:14:53.56
Working with teams,
working with leaders,
00:14:53.59\00:14:55.72
coaching them,
coaching their teams
00:14:55.75\00:14:58.05
and that's been the most
fruitful part of my career.
00:14:58.08\00:15:01.47
Okay, so you have a
specific set of skills that
00:15:01.50\00:15:03.96
you could bring to bear in
your religious faith you walk?
00:15:03.99\00:15:08.20
That's right.
Now, let me say this.
00:15:08.23\00:15:09.43
Having traveled some in
Europe and some in France,
00:15:09.46\00:15:12.91
I know that it is fairly easy
to avoid God in that culture,
00:15:12.94\00:15:17.83
if you don't want
to be bothered with Him
00:15:17.86\00:15:19.98
you can live your life
and He won't insert Himself.
00:15:20.01\00:15:22.84
At some point God
jumped into your business.
00:15:22.87\00:15:28.27
Walk me through that experience
00:15:28.30\00:15:30.05
when the Lord sort of
reintroduced Himself to you
00:15:30.08\00:15:32.73
and you got the message
and began to turn to Him.
00:15:32.76\00:15:36.59
Well, unfortunately I took
a detour through spiritual,
00:15:36.62\00:15:41.32
spiritual counterfeit
which was the new age.
00:15:41.35\00:15:44.07
I was going through
this religious awakening
00:15:44.10\00:15:46.19
or spiritual awakening.
00:15:46.22\00:15:47.60
I think
spiritual is a better word.
00:15:47.63\00:15:49.01
It wasn't religious. It
was a spiritual awakening.
00:15:49.04\00:15:52.09
I knew that there
was something beyond
00:15:52.12\00:15:53.72
the physical wealth, something
beyond what we could see.
00:15:53.75\00:15:57.28
I was really
seeking but as you said,
00:15:57.31\00:16:01.74
being in France a very
secular atheistic society.
00:16:01.77\00:16:06.16
The only choices
in France are atheism,
00:16:06.19\00:16:09.92
the Catholic
Church and the New Age,
00:16:09.95\00:16:13.29
the cultism and all of that.
00:16:13.32\00:16:16.89
I wasn't really
interested in Catholicism.
00:16:16.92\00:16:20.03
I was coming from
atheism trying to,
00:16:20.06\00:16:22.02
you know, come into something
00:16:22.05\00:16:23.47
and unfortunately I
ended up in the New Age.
00:16:23.50\00:16:26.25
That's how I-- and
then the Lord rescued me
00:16:26.28\00:16:29.89
out of that but
there was a long,
00:16:29.92\00:16:31.86
a long parenthesis of time
where I was in the New Age.
00:16:31.89\00:16:34.76
And I certainly
want to ask you, Marla,
00:16:34.79\00:16:35.94
was there something
in particular an event
00:16:35.97\00:16:38.28
that triggered
this spiritual awakening
00:16:38.31\00:16:41.04
we are talking about
or just you got tired
00:16:41.07\00:16:43.27
of what was going on
looking for something more.
00:16:43.30\00:16:45.26
What was the
genesis of that search?
00:16:45.29\00:16:47.04
I think some
readings, the Celestine Prophecy
00:16:47.07\00:16:51.56
and other New Age
books about energy
00:16:51.59\00:16:54.56
and you know, the invisible
world that kind of thing it was
00:16:54.59\00:16:59.15
and I think there, you know,
the New Age is a "strong wind"
00:16:59.18\00:17:03.97
of doctrine that's
sweeping through the world
00:17:04.00\00:17:06.65
and a lot of people
are being influenced by it.
00:17:06.68\00:17:09.34
I was, I also used to
read a lot of self-help books.
00:17:09.37\00:17:13.35
Those shelves are just
filled with New Age books.
00:17:13.38\00:17:17.90
Slightly disguised but
it's all the New Age philosophy.
00:17:17.93\00:17:21.02
So I became very
influenced by that.
00:17:21.05\00:17:24.30
And then I just
got deeper and deeper
00:17:24.33\00:17:26.76
which is what
happens to a lot of people.
00:17:26.79\00:17:28.19
You start dabbling
in, one aspect of it
00:17:28.22\00:17:30.93
that opens another door,
00:17:30.96\00:17:32.26
it takes you into another aspect
00:17:32.29\00:17:33.86
and that takes you
deeper into something else
00:17:33.89\00:17:35.79
and it's all
connected and it just--
00:17:35.82\00:17:38.57
I just became entangled
00:17:38.60\00:17:41.86
in this web of
New Age relationships,
00:17:41.89\00:17:44.68
New Age thoughts and
beliefs and practices
00:17:44.71\00:17:49.34
and my whole social
world was the New Age
00:17:49.37\00:17:53.11
and it got to the
point where even my career
00:17:53.14\00:17:56.74
started to not
interest me anymore.
00:17:56.77\00:17:59.23
And I actually--
00:17:59.26\00:18:01.52
And my boss thought I was crazy.
00:18:01.55\00:18:03.21
I had a very good, you
know, corporate situation
00:18:03.24\00:18:07.67
and I actually
negotiated with my boss that
00:18:07.70\00:18:12.29
they would let me go
00:18:12.32\00:18:14.39
and I created a
small consulting firm.
00:18:14.42\00:18:18.25
Initially I
thought I was gonna be
00:18:18.28\00:18:19.90
doing the kind of
coaching and corporate coaching
00:18:19.93\00:18:22.35
and consulting
that I had been doing
00:18:22.38\00:18:24.83
but the grip of the New Age
00:18:24.86\00:18:26.57
was so strong on
me at this point that
00:18:26.60\00:18:29.92
it quickly became a Feng
Shui consulting business.
00:18:29.95\00:18:34.53
I just said, I'm
not even gonna pretend
00:18:34.56\00:18:36.23
that I want to do
this corporate consulting.
00:18:36.26\00:18:38.23
It really, it just
held no more interest for me
00:18:38.26\00:18:41.59
and I said, I just
want to do a New Age stuff.
00:18:41.62\00:18:43.94
Yeah, now, for those who may
not be familiar with the term,
00:18:43.97\00:18:46.90
you tossed out
the term Feng Shui.
00:18:46.93\00:18:48.87
Give us some nerve
sketch of what that is?
00:18:48.90\00:18:51.79
Feng Shui, its
Chinese ancient discipline,
00:18:51.82\00:18:55.64
ancient school of
studying the energy of the earth
00:18:55.67\00:19:01.83
and how the energy of
the earth affects people.
00:19:01.86\00:19:05.51
In a nutshell that's what it is
00:19:05.54\00:19:06.93
and so you arrange a space
or you arrange an environment,
00:19:06.96\00:19:09.95
you build a home according
to Feng Shui principles
00:19:09.98\00:19:13.53
so that you're
extracting the maximum benefit
00:19:13.56\00:19:16.99
from the Chi, right, the energy
and you are exposing yourself,
00:19:17.02\00:19:21.18
you're positioning your bed
00:19:21.21\00:19:23.23
and, you know,
everything in your home
00:19:23.26\00:19:26.13
according to how the
reading of those energies.
00:19:26.16\00:19:29.15
So you didn't dip
your toe in, you dived in?
00:19:29.18\00:19:32.20
That's right.
00:19:32.23\00:19:33.27
Yeah, and went for--
and people don't understand
00:19:33.30\00:19:35.69
that a lot of the
self-help stuff is riddled with,
00:19:35.72\00:19:40.40
infused with, saturated
with New Age principles.
00:19:40.43\00:19:42.59
That's right.
00:19:42.62\00:19:43.70
Because you are looking inside
00:19:43.73\00:19:45.16
or to a metaphysical forces
oppose to somebody name God
00:19:45.19\00:19:49.17
to get you through
00:19:49.20\00:19:50.35
what you are
trying to get through.
00:19:50.38\00:19:51.94
So you are aligning your
life with that so that's deep.
00:19:51.97\00:19:55.48
How did the Lord
pull you out of that,
00:19:55.51\00:19:59.00
through that to get you
where He wanted you to be?
00:19:59.03\00:20:02.94
The Lord-- remember
I have a praying family
00:20:02.97\00:20:06.06
and I just praise God
and I'm so grateful that
00:20:06.09\00:20:09.34
I had a praying family.
00:20:09.37\00:20:10.95
I had my mother and my brother
00:20:10.98\00:20:12.59
and other family
members praying for me,
00:20:12.62\00:20:14.82
praying for my
salvation, that was the key.
00:20:14.85\00:20:18.88
The Lord didn't prosper
me in my Feng Shui business.
00:20:18.91\00:20:21.65
I had a couple of opportunities,
00:20:21.68\00:20:23.57
I did some big projects actually
00:20:23.60\00:20:25.34
but you know, in France
it's difficult to be successful
00:20:25.37\00:20:28.18
when you are an entrepreneur
because the taxes are so high.
00:20:28.21\00:20:31.16
The whole system
makes it very difficult
00:20:31.19\00:20:33.10
to be financially successful.
00:20:33.13\00:20:35.15
It can take quite a while.
00:20:35.18\00:20:36.92
I had sunk all my money
into this Feng Shui business.
00:20:36.95\00:20:40.75
The Lord closed a
couple of doors that
00:20:40.78\00:20:42.82
would have been instrumental
in giving me a breakthrough.
00:20:42.85\00:20:45.21
The Lord closed those
doors. So I was not doing well.
00:20:45.24\00:20:51.05
And I think but truly the key
00:20:51.08\00:20:55.13
and I have to say was
the demonic harassment
00:20:55.16\00:20:59.06
that started taking place
00:20:59.09\00:21:00.40
because I had
opened so many doors.
00:21:00.43\00:21:02.84
This happens to a lot of people
00:21:02.87\00:21:04.09
who get involved in the New Age.
00:21:04.12\00:21:05.31
You open so many
doors, there is, you know,
00:21:05.34\00:21:08.67
there are demons
everywhere and all they--
00:21:08.70\00:21:10.84
Satan all he wants
is for you to give him
00:21:10.87\00:21:13.18
the legal right
for him to come in.
00:21:13.21\00:21:15.06
Yes, well said.
00:21:15.09\00:21:16.13
Well, that's what I was doing.
00:21:16.16\00:21:17.71
I was giving him all
kinds of legal rights
00:21:17.74\00:21:19.72
with all these doors
that I had been opening
00:21:19.75\00:21:21.53
through meditation
and you know, shamanism
00:21:21.56\00:21:25.60
and you know, card reading
00:21:25.63\00:21:28.58
and astrology everything
else that I was involved in.
00:21:28.61\00:21:30.91
So I started having a
lot of demonic harassment.
00:21:30.94\00:21:35.30
That was truly the key.
00:21:35.33\00:21:37.53
The fact-- of
course the fact that
00:21:37.56\00:21:38.69
I wasn't prosperous
what that did was that
00:21:38.72\00:21:43.11
that created a bridge
so that friends of mine
00:21:43.14\00:21:46.46
who are consultants knew that
my business was not doing well.
00:21:46.49\00:21:50.66
I got back into
corporate consulting,
00:21:50.69\00:21:52.71
that was the key
to bring me to the US.
00:21:52.74\00:21:55.03
Had I stayed in
France I think the Lord
00:21:55.06\00:21:57.73
would have had a very
difficult time rescuing me.
00:21:57.76\00:22:00.58
I had to come back to
the US for that to happen.
00:22:00.61\00:22:04.85
The fact that I went
back into corporate consulting
00:22:04.88\00:22:07.57
allowed the Lord to
bring me to the Bible belt.
00:22:07.60\00:22:11.20
There was a job opening
for a consulting opportunity
00:22:11.23\00:22:15.11
in Houston and
these friends of mine,
00:22:15.14\00:22:17.61
in particular
this friend of mine
00:22:17.64\00:22:19.06
who owns his
consulting firm he asked me,
00:22:19.09\00:22:21.94
he said, you know,
would you be interested
00:22:21.97\00:22:23.47
in taking this project.
00:22:23.50\00:22:24.54
My heart was already set
on coming back to America.
00:22:24.57\00:22:27.26
I know that the
solution to my problems.
00:22:27.29\00:22:29.15
I didn't quite understand it all
00:22:29.18\00:22:31.45
but I know the
Lord was leading me.
00:22:31.48\00:22:33.17
Although I couldn't
really articulated at the time,
00:22:33.20\00:22:35.14
I knew the Lord was
leading me back to America.
00:22:35.17\00:22:37.56
I knew the solution to my
problems were here in the US.
00:22:37.59\00:22:40.41
I wouldn't been able to
explain how but I just let--
00:22:40.44\00:22:43.64
allowed myself
to bring God back.
00:22:43.67\00:22:45.44
Yeah, it's time to
come out of friends.
00:22:45.47\00:22:46.50
You know, and I
will say this Marla,
00:22:46.53\00:22:47.83
I've discovered something
00:22:47.86\00:22:48.89
just last week
or so in studying.
00:22:48.92\00:22:50.77
I ran across a
statement by Ellen White
00:22:50.80\00:22:52.73
where she says this
dabbling and indecision
00:22:52.76\00:22:57.48
and the word she uses provokes
the attack of the enemy.
00:22:57.51\00:23:00.81
That's right. It provokes him.
00:23:00.84\00:23:02.79
He is saying, well, you
don't know what you want to do.
00:23:02.82\00:23:04.72
I've got
something for you to do.
00:23:04.75\00:23:06.11
And so he will
insinuate yourself in his--
00:23:06.14\00:23:08.89
himself in your life
00:23:08.92\00:23:10.89
because you are not
putting up any barriers
00:23:10.92\00:23:12.28
for him not to.
00:23:12.31\00:23:13.38
And he sees your
indecision as an invitation.
00:23:13.41\00:23:17.29
So that indecision
provokes him to attack
00:23:17.32\00:23:20.57
and that's what
you are running into.
00:23:20.60\00:23:22.21
You hadn't decided for the Lord.
00:23:22.24\00:23:23.64
You've opened yourself up
to a spiritual realm so that,
00:23:23.67\00:23:27.14
that vacancy is
filled by the enemy.
00:23:27.17\00:23:30.63
Absolutely.
00:23:30.66\00:23:31.71
And it's a very dangerous realm.
00:23:31.74\00:23:33.24
Very much so.
00:23:33.27\00:23:34.30
Very much so and you saw that.
00:23:34.33\00:23:35.36
So we come back to
Houston. How's thing going?
00:23:35.39\00:23:38.28
I come to Houston
and I mean, paradoxically
00:23:38.31\00:23:42.90
a friend who is
a-- a French friend
00:23:42.93\00:23:45.09
who is in the New Age
and was in the New Age
00:23:45.12\00:23:47.41
at the time said to me Jesus
is the key to your problems.
00:23:47.44\00:23:51.93
Jesus is the only
one who can save you
00:23:51.96\00:23:54.16
and this was coming from someone
00:23:54.19\00:23:55.82
who is deep into,
you know, Hinduism,
00:23:55.85\00:23:58.52
but anyway they believed
He is an ascended Master.
00:23:58.55\00:24:02.35
So she said Jesus is the answer.
00:24:02.38\00:24:04.27
I came to Houston and
to make a long story short
00:24:04.30\00:24:07.76
I listened to a televangelist.
00:24:07.79\00:24:09.46
In my heart I was
ready to come to the Lord.
00:24:09.49\00:24:12.91
I knew, I needed a solution,
00:24:12.94\00:24:14.99
I heard a
televangelist on television
00:24:15.02\00:24:17.02
and I just stood up.
00:24:17.05\00:24:19.58
I was still in the hotel room,
I stood up in my hotel room
00:24:19.61\00:24:22.06
and I just prayed
that salvation prayer
00:24:22.09\00:24:25.36
and I said, that you
know, this is for real.
00:24:25.39\00:24:27.34
I found the church where this,
00:24:27.37\00:24:30.80
you know, evangelist pastored.
00:24:30.83\00:24:34.64
I started going there.
00:24:34.67\00:24:35.71
I went to that
church for about six months,
00:24:35.74\00:24:38.77
that was a Sunday church.
00:24:38.80\00:24:41.40
Believe it or not the Lord
brought me out of that church.
00:24:41.43\00:24:44.21
The Lord had another plan for me
00:24:44.24\00:24:46.05
so the Lord kept hounding me.
00:24:46.08\00:24:48.29
The Lord was no, this is
not the place I want you.
00:24:48.32\00:24:50.54
This is okay, but He kept--
00:24:50.57\00:24:52.68
Yes.
00:24:52.71\00:24:53.91
Bad things happen in that church
00:24:53.94\00:24:55.63
so as a result the Lord was
leading me out of that church.
00:24:55.66\00:24:59.02
And finally, how did I
finally come to the truth,
00:24:59.05\00:25:03.15
I was--
00:25:03.18\00:25:05.78
I had fasted for 21 days,
00:25:05.81\00:25:07.52
I've done the
Daniel fast for 21 days
00:25:07.55\00:25:09.32
asking the Lord for
guidance and saying Lord,
00:25:09.35\00:25:11.71
there has to be
a way out of this.
00:25:11.74\00:25:14.38
I was really going through hell
with all the demonic harassment
00:25:14.41\00:25:17.08
which persisted
and I said, Lord,
00:25:17.11\00:25:19.98
what is the way out
of this tribulation.
00:25:20.01\00:25:22.09
You never give us a trial so big
00:25:22.12\00:25:24.98
that we cannot endure it
00:25:25.01\00:25:26.04
and there is
always a means of escape.
00:25:26.07\00:25:27.43
What is the means of escape?
00:25:27.46\00:25:29.16
And the Lord gave me a vision.
00:25:29.19\00:25:31.04
I was sitting in
my living room praying
00:25:31.07\00:25:34.06
and the Lord gave me a
vision of my brother's face.
00:25:34.09\00:25:38.94
I saw my brother's
face against the wall
00:25:38.97\00:25:42.53
and I said, okay, Lord.
00:25:42.56\00:25:44.29
I picked up the phone I called--
00:25:44.32\00:25:45.48
at this point my
brother didn't know
00:25:45.51\00:25:47.47
what was-- nobody
in my family knew--
00:25:47.50\00:25:49.21
--where they aware
00:25:49.24\00:25:50.93
of your trials at
this point of your life?
00:25:50.96\00:25:52.24
Not at all. Not at all.
00:25:52.27\00:25:53.31
I pick up the
phone, I called my brother
00:25:53.34\00:25:55.87
and I said look, I
need to talk to you
00:25:55.90\00:25:57.91
and I explained everything.
00:25:57.94\00:25:58.98
My brother at this point
was first elder in his church.
00:25:59.01\00:26:01.71
Explained
everything that was happening
00:26:01.74\00:26:03.49
and I said, I need your
help and the very next week
00:26:03.52\00:26:06.31
and I flew to Puerto Rico,
00:26:06.34\00:26:09.24
had more
conversation with my brother.
00:26:09.27\00:26:11.01
We prayed, he anointed me,
00:26:11.04\00:26:12.37
we spent the
whole week in praying.
00:26:12.40\00:26:13.83
I believe that first
weekend I was also fasting.
00:26:13.86\00:26:16.77
I started to use
fasting as a tool.
00:26:16.80\00:26:19.09
It's a incredibly powerful,
spiritual tool and I needed it.
00:26:19.12\00:26:22.58
When you are facing
demonic issues you must fast,
00:26:22.61\00:26:26.27
that's the only way to
deal with these things.
00:26:26.30\00:26:29.24
Then eventually and
very not long afterwards,
00:26:29.27\00:26:31.91
just a few weeks
afterwards I got baptized
00:26:31.94\00:26:34.12
into the
Seventh-day Adventist church.
00:26:34.15\00:26:36.15
Wow.
00:26:36.18\00:26:37.21
Marla, I want to back you
up for just a second because--
00:26:37.24\00:26:41.32
first of all your
story is riveting.
00:26:41.35\00:26:43.69
Had you ever gone
to an Adventist church
00:26:43.72\00:26:45.51
before with your
mother or brother
00:26:45.54\00:26:48.98
after they were converted
in your visits with them?
00:26:49.01\00:26:51.37
Yes, I had
visited a few times. Okay.
00:26:51.40\00:26:53.70
Whenever I went to Puerto Rico,
yeah, I would go to church.
00:26:53.73\00:26:56.51
So it wasn't
totally alien to you?
00:26:56.54\00:26:58.72
No, that's right.
00:26:58.75\00:26:59.87
And the concept of the Sabbath
00:26:59.90\00:27:01.15
also was not alien to me.
00:27:01.18\00:27:02.75
I was very comfortable
with the Sabbath truth.
00:27:02.78\00:27:04.59
Yeah, that's what I was asking
because for a lot of people
00:27:04.62\00:27:06.40
that's like a
splash of cold water
00:27:06.43\00:27:07.97
that Sabbath day, on Sunday
and here I'm on this other day.
00:27:08.00\00:27:11.55
I don't know why I
embrace that very easily.
00:27:11.58\00:27:14.65
Maybe because I was
familiar with the Jews
00:27:14.68\00:27:17.41
through Kabbalah
another one of this New Age,
00:27:17.44\00:27:21.58
you know, doctrines
but through Kabbalah
00:27:21.61\00:27:23.93
I was very familiar
and very comfortable
00:27:23.96\00:27:25.61
with keeping the
Sabbath, Sabbath.
00:27:25.64\00:27:26.97
Bless your heart.
00:27:27.00\00:27:28.40
Okay, we are in a church now.
00:27:28.43\00:27:30.48
Is this having any
effect on your employment,
00:27:30.51\00:27:32.28
on your life?
00:27:32.31\00:27:33.36
How do you navigate the waters,
00:27:33.39\00:27:35.13
you've gotten baptized,
00:27:35.16\00:27:36.49
you are in a
whole new experience.
00:27:36.52\00:27:37.79
Walk me through your
growth trajectory now?
00:27:37.82\00:27:42.42
At work, no, everything
was normal except that I,
00:27:42.45\00:27:46.63
you know, the
spiritual warfare--
00:27:46.66\00:27:48.51
now this became,
once I converted now
00:27:48.54\00:27:51.32
what was demonic harassment
00:27:51.35\00:27:53.39
now it became
spiritual warfare, right.
00:27:53.42\00:27:54.98
Yes, yes, you hit
back now, you see.
00:27:55.01\00:27:56.71
Exactly.
00:27:56.74\00:28:00.22
Again it was the Lord--
00:28:00.25\00:28:02.46
most of what I've done has
been at the Lord's prompting.
00:28:02.49\00:28:05.65
I was serving when I
was in this mega church,
00:28:05.68\00:28:09.23
even though I was only
there for a few months,
00:28:09.26\00:28:11.03
I knew that I needed to serve
00:28:11.06\00:28:12.51
and I was helping out
with the children's ministry,
00:28:12.54\00:28:14.25
they had a big
children's ministry
00:28:14.28\00:28:15.31
I was helping out.
00:28:15.34\00:28:16.38
When I came to
the Adventist church,
00:28:16.41\00:28:18.43
I wasn't quite sure where I fit.
00:28:18.46\00:28:21.73
So initially I
really wasn't helping,
00:28:21.76\00:28:23.78
I was more focused
on studying the word
00:28:23.81\00:28:26.76
and getting myself equipped
00:28:26.79\00:28:28.51
and getting my foundations
well laid with the Bible.
00:28:28.54\00:28:31.86
But shortly after
that the Lord said to me,
00:28:31.89\00:28:35.13
you must be a witness.
00:28:35.16\00:28:36.82
Initially I wasn't
sure what that meant.
00:28:36.85\00:28:38.99
I took it quite literally.
00:28:39.02\00:28:40.25
Okay, it means I
have to make a testimony.
00:28:40.28\00:28:41.92
So I spoke to the pastor,
00:28:41.95\00:28:43.88
gave my first
testimony at church.
00:28:43.91\00:28:46.53
But then the
Lord kept leading me
00:28:46.56\00:28:48.71
and I founded this Bible study
00:28:48.74\00:28:54.02
that subsequently
became the podcast ministry,
00:28:54.05\00:28:56.36
but initially it was a
small Bible study group
00:28:56.39\00:29:00.63
in Houston called--
00:29:00.66\00:29:02.12
we just called
it City Bible Group.
00:29:02.15\00:29:03.62
We created a nice
brochure with a curriculum
00:29:03.65\00:29:07.58
and invited people to
come to this Bible study
00:29:07.61\00:29:09.58
every Wednesday evening.
00:29:09.61\00:29:11.61
Initially we had a nice group.
00:29:11.64\00:29:13.95
The Lord blessed us
with a beautiful location
00:29:13.98\00:29:16.31
but you know,
how-- at least Houston
00:29:16.34\00:29:18.49
all the big
cities traffic is so bad.
00:29:18.52\00:29:21.06
People, you know,
get stuck in traffic
00:29:21.09\00:29:23.70
for over an hour to get
from point A to point B.
00:29:23.73\00:29:26.48
So over the
course of the curriculum
00:29:26.51\00:29:28.88
was three
months, over the course
00:29:28.91\00:29:30.29
of the curriculum towards
the end the number had dwindled
00:29:30.32\00:29:34.13
we have very small group.
00:29:34.16\00:29:36.00
And my friend Angel with
whom I had created this group,
00:29:36.03\00:29:38.85
we sat down and we regrouped.
00:29:38.88\00:29:40.85
When that was
over for the summer
00:29:40.88\00:29:43.36
we said, we need--
00:29:43.39\00:29:44.96
we want to take
this to the next level.
00:29:44.99\00:29:46.90
We want to reach more people.
00:29:46.93\00:29:48.45
Houston is a busy city.
00:29:48.48\00:29:50.00
People have a hard time
keeping that commitment.
00:29:50.03\00:29:52.45
How can we get to people?
00:29:52.48\00:29:53.85
They cannot come to
us, how do we get to them?
00:29:53.88\00:29:56.39
We knew we need
to choose technology,
00:29:56.42\00:29:58.76
the Lord guided us.
00:29:58.79\00:30:00.08
It really was the Lord
who guided us to podcasting.
00:30:00.11\00:30:03.53
I initially was not comfortable
00:30:03.56\00:30:06.10
because very few people
know how to access a podcast.
00:30:06.13\00:30:10.98
I was concerned about that.
I was concerned about reach.
00:30:11.01\00:30:13.51
I thought well,
this is just gonna be
00:30:13.54\00:30:15.67
really young people
that are gonna listen to us
00:30:15.70\00:30:18.50
but it really was
the Lord's guiding.
00:30:18.53\00:30:20.61
I did my
research and I discovered
00:30:20.64\00:30:23.00
that podcasting
did have a future
00:30:23.03\00:30:25.50
and I said okay,
Angel, you are on.
00:30:25.53\00:30:28.15
Let's do a podcast.
00:30:28.18\00:30:30.08
Okay, so for some
of our older audience
00:30:30.11\00:30:32.18
who may not know what
podcast is, define the term?
00:30:32.21\00:30:36.09
A podcast it's
similar to internet radio,
00:30:36.12\00:30:41.85
except that
it's radio on demand.
00:30:41.88\00:30:44.23
It's the same.
00:30:44.26\00:30:45.72
I think podcasting is the same
00:30:45.75\00:30:46.96
as YouTube is for
television or for film.
00:30:46.99\00:30:50.08
It's video on demand,
that's what a podcast is.
00:30:50.11\00:30:53.59
Well, said. Yeah, yeah.
00:30:53.62\00:30:54.69
Well, said.
00:30:54.72\00:30:55.84
Now, we've got a
little audio clip,
00:30:55.87\00:30:58.29
what are we
getting ready to hear?
00:30:58.32\00:31:00.48
This is the intro.
00:31:00.51\00:31:01.85
This is the generic
intro to our podcast series.
00:31:01.88\00:31:04.51
The podcast series is called
"Setting the Record Straight,
00:31:04.54\00:31:08.53
God's Truth for
this Generation."
00:31:08.56\00:31:11.15
It's all about the Bible truths.
00:31:11.18\00:31:13.09
This is the podcast
icon that we are looking at.
00:31:13.12\00:31:17.18
This is what you
would see on iTunes
00:31:17.21\00:31:19.17
or any of the major
podcasting platforms to radio.
00:31:19.20\00:31:23.28
Wherever you have
podcasting available,
00:31:23.31\00:31:25.03
this is the icon
that you would click on
00:31:25.06\00:31:26.65
to launch into
our podcast series
00:31:26.68\00:31:29.57
and find out different episodes.
00:31:29.60\00:31:31.79
The logo with the
heart and the Holy Spirit
00:31:31.82\00:31:35.00
that was designed by Angel.
00:31:35.03\00:31:36.66
She is an artist,
she is very creative
00:31:36.69\00:31:38.72
and I think also the Lord
gave her that beautiful logo.
00:31:38.75\00:31:41.97
And the clip that we
will hear is our intro.
00:31:42.00\00:31:46.38
Every week whenever
the podcast comes out
00:31:46.41\00:31:50.04
this is how it starts--
00:31:50.07\00:31:51.40
In other words
it's a short description
00:31:51.43\00:31:55.36
of the great conflict
between Satan and God.
00:31:55.39\00:31:58.18
Love it.
00:31:58.21\00:31:59.30
All right,
let's listen just now.
00:31:59.33\00:32:03.42
"In the beginning,
God, the love of our souls,
00:32:03.45\00:32:07.61
the source of
goodness, truth, and justice.
00:32:07.64\00:32:11.05
A perfect kingdom
of love and light.
00:32:11.08\00:32:14.03
Until war broke out in heaven,
00:32:14.06\00:32:16.05
through one fallen angel
who broke God's perfect law.
00:32:16.08\00:32:19.51
Lucifer coveted
God's throne and authority,
00:32:19.54\00:32:22.42
and deceived one
third of the angels
00:32:22.45\00:32:24.30
to rebel against the Holy One.
00:32:24.33\00:32:26.36
Since that time,
earth is a war zone,
00:32:26.39\00:32:29.63
where the forces
of light and darkness,
00:32:29.66\00:32:31.98
good and evil, truth and deceit
00:32:32.01\00:32:34.25
battle it out in a
life or death conflict.
00:32:34.28\00:32:37.35
Are you just a spectator
or have you taken sides?
00:32:37.38\00:32:40.92
Are you living
the victorious life
00:32:40.95\00:32:42.88
God intended for you to have?
00:32:42.91\00:32:45.10
Let Marla Ilona guide you
through the truth of God's word
00:32:45.13\00:32:48.74
that you may choose
right, that you may have life
00:32:48.77\00:32:51.42
and have it more abundantly
00:32:51.45\00:32:53.52
and that God's truth
may bring you eternal life.
00:32:53.55\00:32:57.81
Welcome to Setting
the Record Straight,
00:32:57.84\00:33:00.61
God's Truth for
this Generation."
00:33:00.64\00:33:04.86
All right, very
interesting, very intriguing,
00:33:04.89\00:33:07.89
"Setting the Record Straight."
00:33:07.92\00:33:09.04
Where did that title come from?
00:33:09.07\00:33:13.00
I guess the Holy
Spirit gave me that title.
00:33:13.03\00:33:15.09
It just-- I just knew
00:33:15.12\00:33:16.29
from the very start
that if we had a podcast
00:33:16.32\00:33:18.76
that's what it would be called.
00:33:18.79\00:33:19.96
I just knew it.
00:33:19.99\00:33:21.91
Because that's what
it's about, it's about
00:33:21.94\00:33:23.99
demystifying all the
lies, all the deception.
00:33:24.02\00:33:27.24
It's about
clarifying all the, you know,
00:33:27.27\00:33:30.81
lies that the enemy has
planted in people's minds
00:33:30.84\00:33:33.34
and it's really
setting the record straight
00:33:33.37\00:33:35.04
and giving God's
truth for this generation.
00:33:35.07\00:33:37.35
I think we're a
blessed generation,
00:33:37.38\00:33:39.76
the paradoxes
where the generation
00:33:39.79\00:33:41.80
that carries the
most sin, both our own sin
00:33:41.83\00:33:44.15
plus all of the
previous generational sin.
00:33:44.18\00:33:47.69
And yet we are the
most blessed generation,
00:33:47.72\00:33:49.54
we are gonna see
Jesus come in the air.
00:33:49.57\00:33:51.64
So it's that paradox, we
are the unique generation.
00:33:51.67\00:33:53.83
That's the
positive way to look at it.
00:33:53.86\00:33:56.08
How long after your baptism,
after you came to the Lord
00:33:56.11\00:33:59.33
in the Adventist
church did this begin?
00:33:59.36\00:34:02.62
Well, the Bible
study probably a year
00:34:02.65\00:34:06.49
after I've been
baptized and now the podcast
00:34:06.52\00:34:11.36
has been on the air
for just over a year.
00:34:11.39\00:34:13.86
Okay, all right. All right.
00:34:13.89\00:34:15.36
Because I see you as a
person who doesn't kind of--
00:34:15.39\00:34:17.21
is not a come and sit
00:34:17.24\00:34:18.78
and consume
space kind of person.
00:34:18.81\00:34:22.04
Is the Bible study still
going or this replaced that?
00:34:22.07\00:34:25.33
This replaced
it. It replaced that.
00:34:25.36\00:34:26.60
Yeah, because this
kind of take a lot of time.
00:34:26.63\00:34:28.59
Do you have any
kind of anecdotal
00:34:28.62\00:34:30.21
or metrics as
to who has watched,
00:34:30.24\00:34:31.81
who is listening, what kind
of response you are getting?
00:34:31.84\00:34:34.68
We have thousands of
listeners across the world.
00:34:34.71\00:34:36.76
The God has-- the
Lord has really blessed us.
00:34:36.79\00:34:39.81
We have a lot of
listeners in the US
00:34:39.84\00:34:42.27
and Canada as you would expect,
00:34:42.30\00:34:44.00
but we also have
listeners in South Africa,
00:34:44.03\00:34:46.44
quite a few in South
Africa, Australia and the UK.
00:34:46.47\00:34:50.12
Of course all
English speaking countries.
00:34:50.15\00:34:52.73
You would expect
that we would have
00:34:52.76\00:34:53.90
more penetration
in those counties
00:34:53.93\00:34:55.50
but we also have
people listening in countries
00:34:55.53\00:34:57.43
where English is not
the first language like
00:34:57.46\00:34:59.90
Malaysia or you
know, even France,
00:34:59.93\00:35:03.50
some places in Latin America,
even places like Hong Kong.
00:35:03.53\00:35:07.72
We have people
really listening all over
00:35:07.75\00:35:10.35
and it's very humbling
that through technology,
00:35:10.38\00:35:13.71
through the internet we
can reach so many people
00:35:13.74\00:35:16.25
and it's a great
responsibility as well.
00:35:16.28\00:35:18.04
I don't take
that lightly at all.
00:35:18.07\00:35:20.37
Now it's you and
your friend's name is?
00:35:20.40\00:35:22.98
Her name is Angel. Angel.
00:35:23.01\00:35:24.83
Yes, angel is one of
the first people that I met
00:35:24.86\00:35:27.99
when I came to Houston.
00:35:28.02\00:35:29.07
She is a Christian, she is
not a Seventh-day Adventist
00:35:29.10\00:35:31.70
but she is a
Christian very devout, very--
00:35:31.73\00:35:35.15
has a beautiful
relationship with the Lord
00:35:35.18\00:35:37.52
and she is my partner.
00:35:37.55\00:35:39.03
Angel is in
charge of what we call
00:35:39.06\00:35:40.76
the community
building aspect of the ministry
00:35:40.79\00:35:42.96
which is for now
essentially the social media
00:35:42.99\00:35:45.31
since we are more of a
technology based ministry.
00:35:45.34\00:35:47.84
I hope overtime that will expand
00:35:47.87\00:35:49.60
and will have
more roots actually--
00:35:49.63\00:35:52.30
we are virtual
ministry right now.
00:35:52.33\00:35:54.30
I hope overtime we'll
have a location and more roots
00:35:54.33\00:35:57.42
and then there will be
more of a real community,
00:35:57.45\00:35:59.71
physical community
building aspect to it as well.
00:35:59.74\00:36:02.80
Yeah, is your home
church aware of this activity?
00:36:02.83\00:36:05.06
Yes. Yes. Yes.
00:36:05.09\00:36:07.50
So you are getting support.
00:36:07.53\00:36:08.56
My pastor is aware
of it. Praise the Lord.
00:36:08.59\00:36:10.43
Praise the Lord.
It must be exciting.
00:36:10.46\00:36:12.10
As far as the
content walk me through
00:36:12.13\00:36:14.24
what the actual
broadcast run is?
00:36:14.27\00:36:17.49
When I listen,
after I hear the opening
00:36:17.52\00:36:19.13
what do am I gonna get?
00:36:19.16\00:36:21.30
Bible truth.
00:36:21.33\00:36:22.70
Different topics initially
00:36:22.73\00:36:25.19
and this was a shift
also in my own growth.
00:36:25.22\00:36:27.13
When I started
with the Bible study,
00:36:27.16\00:36:29.08
the small group Bible
study, I was doing more,
00:36:29.11\00:36:32.38
you know, meet people
at their point of need.
00:36:32.41\00:36:35.41
You know, financial God,
00:36:35.44\00:36:36.82
what does God
say about finances?
00:36:36.85\00:36:38.25
What does God say about health?
00:36:38.28\00:36:39.59
What does God say
about relationships
00:36:39.62\00:36:41.04
and that is still important.
00:36:41.07\00:36:42.58
However as we
mature as Christians,
00:36:42.61\00:36:45.35
we need to feed people real meat
00:36:45.38\00:36:47.09
and not just milk
and that will be--
00:36:47.12\00:36:48.74
so I personally had my own,
you know, spiritual progression
00:36:48.77\00:36:52.04
where now I'm
teaching God's real truth
00:36:52.07\00:36:54.98
for this generation
where people really need
00:36:55.01\00:36:56.44
to hear about the Sabbath truth
and, you know, all the lies.
00:36:56.47\00:37:00.47
And the CD for
example that we just came out
00:37:00.50\00:37:03.04
with our first CD.
00:37:03.07\00:37:04.60
It's the "Top 10 Countdown
of Myths in the Church."
00:37:04.63\00:37:08.73
And this is all of our
fundamental Adventist beliefs
00:37:08.76\00:37:12.09
and doctrines
but packaged in a way
00:37:12.12\00:37:15.18
that people who
are not in the church
00:37:15.21\00:37:18.38
can be brought
to it more easily.
00:37:18.41\00:37:19.87
It's more appealing.
00:37:19.90\00:37:21.00
We are doing a spoof of
the top 40 songs in America.
00:37:21.03\00:37:24.32
So we do a top 10
countdown, counting down
00:37:24.35\00:37:26.33
through the number 10
to the number one live.
00:37:26.36\00:37:27.73
That jumped out of me
right away, a number of things.
00:37:27.76\00:37:29.68
One, it's old
wine in new wine skins.
00:37:29.71\00:37:32.44
That's right.
00:37:32.47\00:37:33.52
Which is simply
meeting the public
00:37:33.55\00:37:35.29
where they are
and in a method that
00:37:35.32\00:37:38.16
they can consume this is
non confrontational, it is--
00:37:38.19\00:37:44.68
it has some entertainment there,
00:37:44.71\00:37:46.34
dare I say and
it's in the packaging.
00:37:46.37\00:37:48.02
Because the truth is truth,
00:37:48.05\00:37:49.55
but you got to in
kind of a new wrinkle that
00:37:49.58\00:37:51.57
would appeal to those who--
or you talk at demographic.
00:37:51.60\00:37:54.95
Walk me through
what this is all about.
00:37:54.98\00:37:56.62
I think this, first, I
think it's a brilliant idea,
00:37:56.65\00:37:58.17
the "Top Ten Countdown
of Myths in the Church."
00:37:58.20\00:38:02.41
So walk me through what
this is and what it contains?
00:38:02.44\00:38:04.76
I think the music is
an important aspect of it.
00:38:04.79\00:38:08.52
We did a special intro.
00:38:08.55\00:38:10.16
So it's not the intro
that we normally play.
00:38:10.19\00:38:11.88
It's a special, it's a
special edition podcast
00:38:11.91\00:38:14.49
if you will.
00:38:14.52\00:38:15.55
So we have a special intro
with the spoof of the top 40
00:38:15.58\00:38:19.64
and then we launched into,
00:38:19.67\00:38:21.88
you know, for example
the number ten lie is that
00:38:21.91\00:38:24.98
"Christians can live
like anybody in the world."
00:38:25.01\00:38:27.78
You know, no, we cannot,
we cannot eat the same way,
00:38:27.81\00:38:30.09
we cannot have
the same lifestyle
00:38:30.12\00:38:32.42
as the people in
the world, we cannot,
00:38:32.45\00:38:33.66
and I explain
all the reasons why.
00:38:33.69\00:38:35.44
And then we progress
through well, you know,
00:38:35.47\00:38:39.00
Christ doesn't
need any intermediaries
00:38:39.03\00:38:41.04
between Him and us.
00:38:41.07\00:38:43.27
You know, we don't need priest.
00:38:43.30\00:38:45.17
And so that gets a
little bit more controversial
00:38:45.20\00:38:48.16
if you will.
00:38:48.19\00:38:49.25
But, you know, also
very important deceptions
00:38:49.28\00:38:52.48
that need to be unmasked
such as the Israel myth.
00:38:52.51\00:38:55.43
The fact that we have
most of Protestantism looking
00:38:55.46\00:38:58.94
to the Middle
East for fulfillment
00:38:58.97\00:39:01.22
of Bible prophecy when
we know that that's not.
00:39:01.25\00:39:04.09
Even if things do
happen in the Middle East
00:39:04.12\00:39:06.04
as they will, that's still not,
00:39:06.07\00:39:07.76
the nerve of the
war is in America
00:39:07.79\00:39:10.99
and is also in wherever
there is a body of Christ
00:39:11.02\00:39:15.77
that's where the
nerve of the war is.
00:39:15.80\00:39:17.43
It's not polarized
in the Middle East.
00:39:17.46\00:39:19.69
So it's all of these truths
that we are revealing to people
00:39:19.72\00:39:23.61
and to many people
this would be the first time
00:39:23.64\00:39:25.41
that they've ever heard it.
00:39:25.44\00:39:26.67
But I think the use of music,
00:39:26.70\00:39:29.55
it just creates
a little sparkle.
00:39:29.58\00:39:32.19
Music is so powerful that
it really brings it to life.
00:39:32.22\00:39:36.27
What I think when you
look at the younger generation
00:39:36.30\00:39:39.05
that would kind of be
your target audience--
00:39:39.08\00:39:42.59
I like new stuff so I
would jump in this right away
00:39:42.62\00:39:46.54
but the idea that
you've packaged an old truth
00:39:46.57\00:39:50.30
in a brand new
way to meet the public
00:39:50.33\00:39:52.52
where they are is first of all
00:39:52.55\00:39:55.07
it's God inspired
and it's brilliant.
00:39:55.10\00:39:57.26
And I truly believe that
in these last days we got,
00:39:57.29\00:40:00.77
we got to exercise some
brain power in thinking of ways
00:40:00.80\00:40:03.60
to get the gospel into places
that it wouldn't normally go.
00:40:03.63\00:40:06.63
I mean we got to think
of a way to take it there.
00:40:06.66\00:40:08.48
This is one of those
ways I surely believe.
00:40:08.51\00:40:10.27
Yeah, what kind of
response are you getting
00:40:10.30\00:40:12.40
as far as
feedback as how it's going?
00:40:12.43\00:40:14.79
Very good feedback.
00:40:14.82\00:40:16.95
We have not started
00:40:16.98\00:40:18.75
a widespread
distribution of the CD yet
00:40:18.78\00:40:21.22
because we're in the process
of incorporating the ministry,
00:40:21.25\00:40:24.06
so that we can get all.
00:40:24.09\00:40:25.58
We need the foundation so
that all of that can get done,
00:40:25.61\00:40:28.44
but everyone that
has listened to the CD,
00:40:28.47\00:40:31.50
the feedback has
been very, very good.
00:40:31.53\00:40:33.64
Especially, you know,
sometimes I give it to someone
00:40:33.67\00:40:35.85
I'm witnessing to
or somebody in church
00:40:35.88\00:40:38.50
or, you know,
somebody that I meet,
00:40:38.53\00:40:40.67
I just give them the CD.
00:40:40.70\00:40:41.75
I'll say, listen to this,
I think this will help you,
00:40:41.78\00:40:44.60
and the feedback
is very, very good.
00:40:44.63\00:40:46.83
I think it
really touches people.
00:40:46.86\00:40:48.33
So the ministry then
is-- let me get this right.
00:40:48.36\00:40:51.25
This is, is it city,
it's still called City Bible.
00:40:51.28\00:40:54.41
The ministry is
called City Bible Group,
00:40:54.44\00:40:56.43
but the podcast is called
Setting the Record Straight.
00:40:56.46\00:41:00.07
So which will be incorporated?
00:41:00.10\00:41:01.42
City Bible Group.
00:41:01.45\00:41:02.54
And under that is the podcast.
00:41:02.57\00:41:04.69
Exactly and I'm
hoping that we'll be able
00:41:04.72\00:41:06.85
to expand to other
media so that hopefully radio,
00:41:06.88\00:41:10.06
you know, and trying
to get some radio stations
00:41:10.09\00:41:12.46
interested in
carrying the program
00:41:12.49\00:41:14.17
and so forth, so
that we can reach
00:41:14.20\00:41:15.59
because as we said
earlier, podcasting,
00:41:15.62\00:41:18.91
although it holds great promise
00:41:18.94\00:41:20.99
and I'm sure that it will grow,
00:41:21.02\00:41:22.52
its audience will
grow, but still it's a very,
00:41:22.55\00:41:26.03
it tends to be a
younger audience.
00:41:26.06\00:41:28.14
We want to reach to everyone
not just the younger generation
00:41:28.17\00:41:31.15
so we need to expand
00:41:31.18\00:41:32.86
and that's why we need
to use radio for example.
00:41:32.89\00:41:35.16
Yeah. Yeah, yeah.
00:41:35.19\00:41:36.28
They incorrectly
predicted the death of radio
00:41:36.31\00:41:40.29
when television
came, it is not so,
00:41:40.32\00:41:42.15
radio is really flourishing,
00:41:42.18\00:41:43.80
still very personal in your home
00:41:43.83\00:41:45.88
while you're
showering it's still there.
00:41:45.91\00:41:47.78
So there's
definitely an audience
00:41:47.81\00:41:49.53
and I think this is a
wonderful way to tap into
00:41:49.56\00:41:53.14
that audience with something
that is radio friendly.
00:41:53.17\00:41:56.48
That's right and you
will see one of the reasons
00:41:56.51\00:41:58.19
why radio I think will
not die and like podcasting
00:41:58.22\00:42:01.30
any audio material will live on,
00:42:01.33\00:42:04.70
it's because we're
such a busy society.
00:42:04.73\00:42:07.34
People are multi-tasking.
00:42:07.37\00:42:09.40
Screen time
requires a lot of time that
00:42:09.43\00:42:11.44
people do not
have, so this is ideal.
00:42:11.47\00:42:13.73
Podcasting of our CDs
are ideal for busy mothers,
00:42:13.76\00:42:16.52
people who commute to work
00:42:16.55\00:42:18.03
when you don't
have that screen time,
00:42:18.06\00:42:19.72
you can still be listening
to the word of God regardless
00:42:19.75\00:42:21.95
of what you're doing and
that's value of it as well.
00:42:21.98\00:42:25.09
Yeah, yeah, I like to call
radio a passive aggressive.
00:42:25.12\00:42:27.65
You know it's there, it's
there and it's reaching you
00:42:27.68\00:42:30.95
and it's
touching, it's changing you
00:42:30.98\00:42:32.40
but it's done in
a very passive way.
00:42:32.43\00:42:33.58
I'm waiting at a light
00:42:33.61\00:42:34.67
and I'm kind of staring
at that red light in front--
00:42:34.70\00:42:36.17
those red lights in front of me
00:42:36.20\00:42:37.48
and this thing is
coming into my brain
00:42:37.51\00:42:38.88
and it's getting in there.
00:42:38.91\00:42:40.13
You may not
think it is but it is.
00:42:40.16\00:42:41.68
So it's passive but
it's aggressive, it is there.
00:42:41.71\00:42:44.15
Now you're
doing some other stuff
00:42:44.18\00:42:45.24
before our time gets away.
00:42:45.27\00:42:46.71
Church
Drive-thru Prayer message.
00:42:46.74\00:42:48.56
Talk to me about that?
Oh, that is so beautiful.
00:42:48.59\00:42:50.30
I love that ministry
00:42:50.33\00:42:51.94
because it came from
a very personal need.
00:42:51.97\00:42:56.13
When I was going
through all of my tribulations,
00:42:56.16\00:42:58.85
I had such a need for prayer.
00:42:58.88\00:43:00.87
I knew that prayer was the key.
00:43:00.90\00:43:02.29
Prayer and fasting
were key to breaking my,
00:43:02.32\00:43:05.68
you know, the grip
that Satan had on me.
00:43:05.71\00:43:09.12
It's key to breaking the
grip that Satan has on anybody,
00:43:09.15\00:43:12.02
no matter who they are
because of this need that I had
00:43:12.05\00:43:15.75
I was always
calling prayer lines
00:43:15.78\00:43:17.26
and looking for
people to pray with me
00:43:17.29\00:43:19.10
and pray for me.
00:43:19.13\00:43:20.58
I decided to start, I
sort of first I started
00:43:20.61\00:43:23.96
with our prayer
ministry at our church.
00:43:23.99\00:43:25.69
I started working
with the prayer ministry
00:43:25.72\00:43:27.66
to make it more available
00:43:27.69\00:43:29.00
to the rest of the congregation.
00:43:29.03\00:43:30.35
They met in a little room.
00:43:30.38\00:43:31.80
They prayed but very few people
00:43:31.83\00:43:33.21
in the church were aware that
00:43:33.24\00:43:34.80
there was a spiritual
power house in that room
00:43:34.83\00:43:37.91
that they could have access to,
00:43:37.94\00:43:39.93
so first step was
work with the prayer team,
00:43:39.96\00:43:42.16
bring them into the sanctuary.
00:43:42.19\00:43:44.77
So now every Sabbath
after the divine service,
00:43:44.80\00:43:47.43
we have an
intercessory prayer service.
00:43:47.46\00:43:49.67
We bring out our banners
00:43:49.70\00:43:51.76
and we stand in
front of the congregation
00:43:51.79\00:43:53.58
after the service is over.
00:43:53.61\00:43:54.70
Anyone who needs prayer
comes to the prayer line
00:43:54.73\00:43:57.82
and we pray for them.
00:43:57.85\00:44:00.26
That was the first step,
00:44:00.29\00:44:01.55
getting the team
to be more available.
00:44:01.58\00:44:04.02
The next step
was now we need to be
00:44:04.05\00:44:06.16
available not only
to our congregation,
00:44:06.19\00:44:07.90
we need to be
available to the community,
00:44:07.93\00:44:09.97
people out there have need,
a big need for prayer as well,
00:44:10.00\00:44:13.58
whether they're Adventist
or not, it doesn't matter,
00:44:13.61\00:44:15.74
they're God's
children, they need prayer.
00:44:15.77\00:44:18.19
So then what I did
was I-- because remember
00:44:18.22\00:44:20.86
I'm a change agent
so I used the skills,
00:44:20.89\00:44:23.17
I'm always
looking for opportunities
00:44:23.20\00:44:24.68
to bring in positive change.
00:44:24.71\00:44:27.89
I spotted the opportunity
00:44:27.92\00:44:29.23
when we were having
an evangelistic campaign,
00:44:29.26\00:44:31.79
and I thought this
is it, we can, you know,
00:44:31.82\00:44:34.24
promote the evangelism
00:44:34.27\00:44:36.20
that's gonna take
place through prayer,
00:44:36.23\00:44:38.66
let's combined the two,
let's do that as a trial run
00:44:38.69\00:44:41.40
and see how it goes
00:44:41.43\00:44:42.74
and then 'cause I
did have that vision.
00:44:42.77\00:44:44.15
I did want us to
do Drive-thru Prayer
00:44:44.18\00:44:45.73
but I needed the
opportunity to get the team
00:44:45.76\00:44:48.36
to embrace the concept
'cause it was quite new
00:44:48.39\00:44:51.11
and to get it going.
00:44:51.14\00:44:52.78
So the Texas
Conference agreed to fund us.
00:44:52.81\00:44:55.20
I presented the project to them,
00:44:55.23\00:44:56.96
re-obtain funding
because the banners,
00:44:56.99\00:44:59.31
the signage,
there is some expense,
00:44:59.34\00:45:01.15
the uniforms
associated with setting this up,
00:45:01.18\00:45:04.28
so the Texas Conference
they believed in the concept,
00:45:04.31\00:45:07.34
they had faith in us
and they gave us the money.
00:45:07.37\00:45:10.10
We got ourselves geared up,
00:45:10.13\00:45:12.56
did a few pilot runs
for the evangelist campaign.
00:45:12.59\00:45:15.95
We tweaked the
concept because you know,
00:45:15.98\00:45:18.19
you had once, you have an idea
00:45:18.22\00:45:19.78
but then reality
is another story,
00:45:19.81\00:45:22.23
you need to adapt the concept
00:45:22.26\00:45:23.70
so that it actually works
in the suburban environment
00:45:23.73\00:45:25.77
where we are, strong winds,
00:45:25.80\00:45:28.38
you know, blew down the tent,
00:45:28.41\00:45:30.85
blew the signs
down, so we have been
00:45:30.88\00:45:32.83
through few generations of signs
00:45:32.86\00:45:35.04
and abandon the
tent concept, you know.
00:45:35.07\00:45:37.06
We went through all of that
and we perfected the concept
00:45:37.09\00:45:40.41
to where now it
works really, really well
00:45:40.44\00:45:43.61
and now praise the Lord
00:45:43.64\00:45:45.23
every first Sunday of
the month, the signs go up,
00:45:45.26\00:45:47.32
the banners go
up and we have our
00:45:47.35\00:45:49.36
Drive-thru Prayer
for the community.
00:45:49.39\00:45:50.79
Wow, wow, Now walk me through,
00:45:50.82\00:45:52.59
it's a drive into the
church, parking lot or?
00:45:52.62\00:45:57.07
Yes, so that there
is sort of round about,
00:45:57.10\00:46:00.30
that's where we
have the prayer stand.
00:46:00.33\00:46:01.64
People drive into the church,
00:46:01.67\00:46:03.78
they drive
through the round about,
00:46:03.81\00:46:05.28
they stop, we pray with them.
00:46:05.31\00:46:07.77
And obviously we take
them, you know, the information
00:46:07.80\00:46:10.78
we can follow up
with them if they'd like.
00:46:10.81\00:46:12.70
We give them literature
00:46:12.73\00:46:13.79
and we say every
first Sunday of the month,
00:46:13.82\00:46:16.13
we head up to,
you know, bless you.
00:46:16.16\00:46:18.17
Now, I got to ask you
Marla. If this thing working?
00:46:18.20\00:46:20.08
Yes. Oh, absolutely.
00:46:20.11\00:46:21.71
And we were, I was hoping that
00:46:21.74\00:46:24.19
we'd be able to show a news
clip ABC Television Channel 13
00:46:24.22\00:46:28.38
actually came out and filmed us.
00:46:28.41\00:46:30.84
They did a news
report on what we were doing
00:46:30.87\00:46:33.16
because they saw
it was successful,
00:46:33.19\00:46:35.35
and they saw that it
was new and innovative,
00:46:35.38\00:46:38.25
they were
intrigued by the concept
00:46:38.28\00:46:40.24
and I think I
believe the Lord sent them.
00:46:40.27\00:46:42.27
I believe the Lord is saying
do more of this, I like this.
00:46:42.30\00:46:46.16
And, yeah, unfortunately
we're not able to get
00:46:46.19\00:46:50.22
the release to show it today.
00:46:50.25\00:46:52.90
But that also gave a lot,
00:46:52.93\00:46:55.15
the ministerial on
credibility within the church.
00:46:55.18\00:46:56.94
Very much so.
00:46:56.97\00:46:58.00
Because the church had never had
00:46:58.03\00:46:59.29
so much exposure as we did
00:46:59.32\00:47:00.89
when television came
for this news report.
00:47:00.92\00:47:03.09
Now can I ask you,
where is your home church?
00:47:03.12\00:47:04.64
Houston Central.
00:47:04.67\00:47:06.08
Houston
Central. Okay, very good.
00:47:06.11\00:47:07.74
Let me throw you these flowers
00:47:07.77\00:47:09.53
while you're yet
allowed to smell them.
00:47:09.56\00:47:11.53
First of all I
appreciate your ingenuity.
00:47:11.56\00:47:14.24
God has given you
a unique skill set
00:47:14.27\00:47:16.34
which you turn around
00:47:16.37\00:47:17.45
and made
available for His service.
00:47:17.48\00:47:20.06
I think that
converted, committed Christians
00:47:20.09\00:47:23.57
are going to have to put a lot--
00:47:23.60\00:47:24.66
And I said this before,
brilliant timing to thinking
00:47:24.69\00:47:26.89
of ways to meet the community.
00:47:26.92\00:47:29.40
If something is
good inside the church,
00:47:29.43\00:47:31.65
it is probably good outside
the church if not better.
00:47:31.68\00:47:34.30
So if prayer is good inside,
00:47:34.33\00:47:35.97
prayer is
definitely better outside
00:47:36.00\00:47:37.33
because they
need the prayer too,
00:47:37.36\00:47:38.65
so let's find a
way to take it outside.
00:47:38.68\00:47:41.48
If a discussion
of the gospel topics,
00:47:41.51\00:47:44.68
the topics that are
fundamental to Adventist church,
00:47:44.71\00:47:46.87
it's good for us to know,
00:47:46.90\00:47:48.13
it's probably good
for them to know too,
00:47:48.16\00:47:49.61
so let's invent a methodology
00:47:49.64\00:47:51.85
so they can get the
same kind of information
00:47:51.88\00:47:53.67
packaged in a different
form, digestible for them,
00:47:53.70\00:47:56.87
so I salute you
and as Danny says
00:47:56.90\00:47:59.45
that Jesus in you.
00:47:59.48\00:48:00.96
Because we need
Christians to think of ways
00:48:00.99\00:48:03.59
how can I get
out of this building
00:48:03.62\00:48:05.45
and into that
community for Jesus Christ.
00:48:05.48\00:48:07.82
And if this is not the answer,
00:48:07.85\00:48:10.42
certainly one of
a number of answers
00:48:10.45\00:48:12.10
that will answer that question.
00:48:12.13\00:48:13.69
So you're doing
something and Houston Central
00:48:13.72\00:48:16.29
is to be congratulated
00:48:16.32\00:48:17.55
for supported
this kind of movement
00:48:17.58\00:48:19.32
because the more
we get out there,
00:48:19.35\00:48:21.74
the better we are and
more we legitimize our call
00:48:21.77\00:48:24.33
as mission agents, change agents
00:48:24.36\00:48:26.54
for the cause of Christ.
00:48:26.57\00:48:27.83
Our time is
getting away from us.
00:48:27.86\00:48:28.94
Before it does, should
you want to contact Marla
00:48:28.97\00:48:33.09
and get some of these ideas
00:48:33.12\00:48:34.58
to put into
practice in your church
00:48:34.61\00:48:36.96
or some of this material,
00:48:36.99\00:48:38.18
here is how you
can do precisely that.

00:48:48.44\00:48:50.16
wherever possible
even the very elite.
00:48:50.19\00:48:52.68

That's the
information that you need
00:49:28.65\00:49:30.31
and you really need
to call this young lady
00:49:30.34\00:49:32.27
because she has got
a lot of information
00:49:32.30\00:49:33.74
and a lot of
encouragement to give to you.
00:49:33.77\00:49:36.38
Emily Felt-Jones
returns to us now
00:49:36.41\00:49:39.03
and she is going to
singing really a great song
00:49:39.06\00:49:40.76
that I personally love
called No Way Around the Cross.
00:49:40.79\00:49:45.00
In the beginning,
back when it all began
00:49:57.00\00:50:03.31
There was a Cross
00:50:03.34\00:50:05.82
Drawn on the master plan
00:50:05.85\00:50:09.66
And placed in for until eternity
00:50:09.69\00:50:14.76
The salvation
symbol for all to see
00:50:14.79\00:50:20.85
And there's no
way around the Cross
00:50:20.88\00:50:25.96
All history hangs on that tree
00:50:25.99\00:50:31.04
And the shadow falls far
00:50:31.07\00:50:33.99
And wide and covers humanity
00:50:34.02\00:50:40.99
You can choose to ignore
00:50:41.02\00:50:43.98
But it won't go away
00:50:44.01\00:50:46.78
It's a part of your past
00:50:46.81\00:50:49.23
It's your future today
00:50:49.26\00:50:51.73
'Cause there's no
way around the Cross
00:50:51.76\00:50:57.76
Then there's an ending
00:51:02.36\00:51:04.89
For everything that's done
00:51:04.92\00:51:08.86
And heaven is earned
00:51:08.89\00:51:11.34
Calvary just for one
00:51:11.37\00:51:15.25
The fate of this
world was decided there
00:51:15.28\00:51:20.33
The right from the
answer shines everywhere
00:51:20.36\00:51:26.33
'Cause there's no
way around the Cross
00:51:26.36\00:51:31.60
All history hangs on that tree
00:51:31.63\00:51:36.59
And the shadow
00:51:36.62\00:51:37.92
Falls far and wide
00:51:37.95\00:51:42.14
And covers humanity
00:51:42.17\00:51:46.71
You can choose to ignore
00:51:46.74\00:51:49.61
But it won't go away
00:51:49.64\00:51:52.33
It's a part of your past
00:51:52.36\00:51:54.81
It's your future today
00:51:54.84\00:51:57.22
'Cause there's no
way around the Cross
00:51:57.25\00:52:02.82
There's no denying
00:52:02.85\00:52:05.16
The choice we must make
00:52:05.19\00:52:08.87
'Cause it stands at the end
00:52:08.90\00:52:11.80
Which end, road we take
00:52:11.83\00:52:17.08
'Cause there's no
way around the Cross
00:52:19.09\00:52:24.16
All history hangs on that tree
00:52:24.19\00:52:29.41
And the shadow
falls far and wide
00:52:29.44\00:52:34.64
and covers humanity
00:52:34.67\00:52:39.77
We can choose to ignore
00:52:39.80\00:52:42.25
But it won't go away
00:52:42.28\00:52:45.01
It's a part of our past
00:52:45.04\00:52:47.40
It's our future today
00:52:47.43\00:52:50.00
'Cause there's no
way around the Cross
00:52:50.03\00:52:55.03
There's no way around the Cross
00:52:55.06\00:52:59.86
There's just no
way around the Cross
00:52:59.89\00:53:05.25
