I want to spend my life 00:00:01.39\00:00:07.44 Mending broken people 00:00:07.47\00:00:12.26 I want to spend my life 00:00:12.29\00:00:18.77 Removing pain 00:00:18.80\00:00:23.85 Lord, let my words 00:00:23.88\00:00:27.38 Heal a heart that hurts 00:00:30.01\00:00:34.58 I want to spend my life 00:00:34.61\00:00:40.43 Mending broken people 00:00:40.46\00:00:43.28 I want to spend my life 00:00:45.67\00:00:51.36 Mending broken people 00:00:51.39\00:00:54.44 Hello and welcome to 3ABN Today. 00:01:08.68\00:01:11.01 My name is C.A. Murray 00:01:11.04\00:01:12.20 and thank you once again for sharing 00:01:12.23\00:01:13.80 just a little of your day with us. 00:01:13.83\00:01:16.12 And we've got a really great program 00:01:16.15\00:01:18.83 to share with you today. 00:01:18.86\00:01:19.99 Our good friend David Canther is back 00:01:20.02\00:01:21.72 and we always are very, very please 00:01:21.75\00:01:23.45 and happy to have David with us. 00:01:23.48\00:01:24.90 Good to see you, man. 00:01:24.93\00:01:25.98 Praise God and glad to be back. 00:01:26.01\00:01:27.04 Yeah, his ministry ACTS has grown exponentially there 00:01:27.07\00:01:31.09 I say since when last you're here. 00:01:31.12\00:01:33.55 You're on collage compass is now. 00:01:33.58\00:01:35.23 You're an adjunct professor teaching some of the things 00:01:35.26\00:01:38.35 that God has given you 00:01:38.38\00:01:41.17 as part your spiritual legacy there I say. 00:01:41.20\00:01:44.57 And I need to sort of work my way through this before 00:01:44.60\00:01:47.79 we introduce our young people because ACTS 00:01:47.82\00:01:50.80 is the corporate title of the ministry. 00:01:50.83\00:01:54.70 Define for me what is Global Rapid Rescue Relief? 00:01:54.73\00:01:59.36 That's a very good question. 00:01:59.39\00:02:00.76 God is truly expanded the ministry. 00:02:00.79\00:02:03.16 Yeah, that patch was isn't there last time. 00:02:03.19\00:02:04.64 It was ACTS, that's a new patch 00:02:04.67\00:02:06.07 you got on your shoulder. 00:02:06.10\00:02:07.16 So ACTS World Relief is our non-profit foundation 00:02:07.19\00:02:10.60 that helps fund our deployments. 00:02:10.63\00:02:12.51 I see. When people give contributions. 00:02:12.54\00:02:14.52 Because we're not funded by any other entity 00:02:14.55\00:02:16.98 or the church or whatever. 00:02:17.01\00:02:18.70 And so GR3 is a new division that has to do 00:02:18.73\00:02:22.81 with our first responders of which Heritage Academy 00:02:22.84\00:02:25.66 is actually have trained a first response group 00:02:25.69\00:02:28.19 along with many other adults and as you mentioned 00:02:28.22\00:02:31.27 even doctors taking a special fellowship 00:02:31.30\00:02:34.32 from Harvard University through what they called 00:02:34.35\00:02:37.20 the Beth Israel concept 00:02:37.23\00:02:39.93 of Disaster Management and Emergency Response. 00:02:39.96\00:02:43.53 So I take out a lot of people under the GR3, 00:02:43.56\00:02:47.02 Global Rapid Rescue and Relief so that means 00:02:47.05\00:02:49.83 first responder and our training division. 00:02:49.86\00:02:52.52 So then thirdly the other division we broken it down 00:02:52.55\00:02:55.63 to into now is actually all our equipment like our, 00:02:55.66\00:02:59.43 mobile kitchens, we can feed 50,000 meals a day. 00:02:59.46\00:03:02.71 Trying to specialize though in vegetarian, vegan meals, 00:03:02.74\00:03:06.53 Kosher diabetic meals, so that's rescue 00:03:06.56\00:03:09.03 or you will see that name on a lot of our kitchens now. 00:03:09.06\00:03:11.31 So that's a separate division of equipment. 00:03:11.34\00:03:13.35 Yeah, I'm looking at your business-card this is 00:03:13.38\00:03:15.49 one of the more crowded business-card that 00:03:15.52\00:03:17.95 I've ever seen because you've got so many facets 00:03:17.98\00:03:20.40 to your ministry 00:03:20.43\00:03:21.47 and they all represented on this one card. 00:03:21.50\00:03:23.30 So well done David, and God is blessing you to move 00:03:23.33\00:03:25.95 into other areas obviously and the fact that you're taking 00:03:25.98\00:03:28.56 and training doctors. 00:03:28.59\00:03:29.67 Who don't I suspect get a lot of training 00:03:29.70\00:03:32.29 in disaster response, 00:03:32.32\00:03:35.36 that's not part of the curriculum 00:03:35.39\00:03:36.72 as I know it to be, so you really introducing them 00:03:36.75\00:03:38.99 to a whole new area of service 00:03:39.02\00:03:40.82 that they can use through out their lives. 00:03:40.85\00:03:42.49 So well done. 00:03:42.52\00:03:43.55 Now we get to introduce our handsome young man 00:03:43.58\00:03:48.40 and lovely young lady from Heritage Academy. 00:03:48.43\00:03:51.24 And-- we-- this is a second of two programs 00:03:51.27\00:03:53.55 that we've done with them. 00:03:53.58\00:03:54.93 And again I'm so very, very impressed that Heritage 00:03:54.96\00:03:58.15 has seen fit to partner with you and with FEMA 00:03:58.18\00:04:01.08 and other agencies to train the young people 00:04:01.11\00:04:03.39 to do something that can really be a benefit 00:04:03.42\00:04:05.47 for the rest of their lives. 00:04:05.50\00:04:07.17 Really, really great. 00:04:07.20\00:04:09.60 First let's say, we've got Laura Sutton. 00:04:09.63\00:04:11.44 Hi, Laura, how are you? 00:04:11.47\00:04:12.88 Hi, I'm doing very good. Yes. 00:04:30.47\00:04:31.50 You are not to too far away. 00:04:31.53\00:04:32.61 Yeah, but two hours from Minneapolis. 00:04:32.64\00:04:34.80 Great great. 00:04:34.83\00:04:36.59 Adventist home both of you I suspect. 00:04:36.62\00:04:38.76 Let me ask you this question, 00:04:38.79\00:04:41.01 it is one thing and it will make a great assumption here, 00:04:41.04\00:04:45.12 it is one thing grow up in an Adventist home. 00:04:45.15\00:04:47.79 Growing up in an Adventist home dose it make you Adventist, 00:04:47.82\00:04:50.95 doest it necessarily make you Christian 00:04:50.98\00:04:52.94 and does it make you one with Christ. 00:04:52.97\00:04:56.00 Yet in just observing you, I think you have 00:04:56.03\00:04:59.42 a working relationship with Jesus. 00:04:59.45\00:05:01.43 When did that happen for you personally? 00:05:01.46\00:05:03.39 Not fall out from your parents or go on a Church, 00:05:03.42\00:05:06.46 when did you come to know Christ for yourself. 00:05:06.49\00:05:09.39 Me or Kevin? 00:05:09.42\00:05:11.34 Let's go with you, ladies first. Okay. 00:05:11.37\00:05:14.03 Well, actually you know, like you said, you know, 00:05:14.06\00:05:16.05 I been raised in the Adventist church, 00:05:16.08\00:05:17.12 so you know, knowing other belief and actually like 00:05:17.15\00:05:19.46 separating what you believe form what your parents believe 00:05:19.49\00:05:21.96 and that probably happened for me 00:05:21.99\00:05:24.02 significantly my first year at Heritage Academy, 00:05:24.05\00:05:26.03 I came here as a freshman I'm now junior. 00:05:26.06\00:05:28.46 And just experiencing a different side of Adventism 00:05:28.49\00:05:32.22 that I hadn't really seen which is more of an active 00:05:32.25\00:05:34.90 serving part of Adventism and that really encouraged me 00:05:34.93\00:05:37.90 in my relationship with Christ. 00:05:37.93\00:05:39.57 Also we had a couple of guest speakers that came in 00:05:39.60\00:05:42.24 and just actually realizing you know, 00:05:42.27\00:05:44.90 what it ment to these people to have a personal 00:05:44.93\00:05:46.68 relationship with Jesus made me want it 00:05:46.71\00:05:48.34 and want to experience it. 00:05:48.37\00:05:49.63 Well, said. Kevin? 00:05:49.66\00:05:51.16 Well, this is my first year at Heritage, 00:05:51.19\00:05:54.45 I also a junior but when I was a freshmen 00:05:54.48\00:05:57.49 in my last school I decided to make decision for Lord 00:05:57.52\00:06:01.63 just seeing and I actually started paying attention 00:06:01.66\00:06:05.23 to sermons, I actually seeing how our God's love for me. 00:06:05.26\00:06:11.25 And that's when I made decision to be baptized 00:06:11.28\00:06:13.42 and also being here at Heritage which is my first year, 00:06:13.45\00:06:17.06 its actually helping strengthen my relationship 00:06:17.09\00:06:19.39 also because, seeing we had guest-- we've guest speakers 00:06:19.42\00:06:22.43 and the spiritual aspect there has also 00:06:22.46\00:06:24.86 really helped also. 00:06:24.89\00:06:27.52 This is going to be a very much a hands on show 00:06:27.55\00:06:31.93 and tell kind of a show but I want to ask you just 00:06:31.96\00:06:33.65 one request before I get back you David because Laura, 00:06:33.68\00:06:36.37 you alluded us something that I talked 00:06:36.40\00:06:38.52 with some other Heritage students on another program 00:06:38.55\00:06:44.58 and that is that doing hands on, 00:06:44.61\00:06:48.10 helping people in a very real intangible way 00:06:48.13\00:06:50.88 does something to strengthen your relationship, 00:06:50.91\00:06:54.37 you faith, expound on that just a little bit for me. 00:06:54.40\00:06:56.66 Well, it does and when you're sharing 00:06:56.69\00:06:58.77 what you know, you get to know it better 00:06:58.80\00:07:02.02 because in order to share with someone you have to your stuff. 00:07:02.05\00:07:04.91 You know, so when you're trying to share Christ 00:07:04.94\00:07:06.67 to someone you get to know Christ better 00:07:06.70\00:07:08.31 because how can you share something 00:07:08.34\00:07:09.37 you don't know yourself? 00:07:09.40\00:07:10.43 Yeah, yeah. 00:07:10.46\00:07:11.49 How can you give something to someone else 00:07:11.52\00:07:12.55 when you haven't yourself experienced? 00:07:12.58\00:07:14.14 Could I just interject? 00:07:14.17\00:07:15.21 Laura is probably one our best training-- 00:07:15.24\00:07:19.16 she is a train the trainer in many other things 00:07:19.19\00:07:21.23 which you're gonna see. 00:07:21.26\00:07:22.32 One aspect I'll throw her a little curve that she does 00:07:22.35\00:07:25.04 really well at is training in physiological first aid 00:07:25.07\00:07:28.27 emotional and spiritual care. 00:07:28.30\00:07:29.86 So beyond the technical she is always trying to train 00:07:29.89\00:07:33.11 this holistic package of meeting the persons 00:07:33.14\00:07:37.03 spiritual needs asking the right questions. 00:07:37.06\00:07:40.20 So my name David and your name is? 00:07:40.23\00:07:42.70 Laura. 00:07:42.73\00:07:43.77 And so Laura has role-played this with many students around 00:07:43.80\00:07:47.33 the country asking the right questions ultimately getting 00:07:47.36\00:07:50.05 to that spiritual center of how can she pray with them, 00:07:50.08\00:07:54.06 a pray of blessing. 00:07:54.09\00:07:56.03 And so that's a great dynamic part of the training 00:07:56.06\00:07:59.05 which she has learnt to share Christ. 00:07:59.08\00:08:00.11 Yeah. Yeah. 00:08:00.14\00:08:01.17 So part of your growth in Christ has been putting legs 00:08:01.20\00:08:05.11 on the things you kind of learn in class. 00:08:05.14\00:08:07.15 They can actually practical in the real world. 00:08:07.18\00:08:11.29 Yeah, same with you, Kevin? 00:08:11.32\00:08:12.74 Yeah. Yeah. 00:08:12.77\00:08:14.25 Okay, excellent. 00:08:14.28\00:08:15.33 Now let's swing it back to you David, 00:08:15.36\00:08:18.22 because obviously you developed a close working 00:08:18.25\00:08:20.93 relationship with this school and you seen 00:08:20.96\00:08:24.02 this I guess in real time that when people go out 00:08:24.05\00:08:27.64 and serve it does something to build 00:08:27.67\00:08:28.89 that who they are in Jesus. 00:08:28.92\00:08:29.96 Amen. Yeah. 00:08:29.99\00:08:31.02 And Laura and Kevin both and many other students 00:08:31.05\00:08:34.27 form Heritage are prime examples 00:08:34.30\00:08:36.32 that we have used them so much, so many times training, 00:08:36.35\00:08:40.33 we're gonna talk about in New York more they were 00:08:40.36\00:08:43.61 training together with about 11 different schools there 00:08:43.64\00:08:47.46 and 17 Bermuda all over the North East. 00:08:47.49\00:08:51.01 And then most recently several weeks ago down 00:08:51.04\00:08:53.83 to Orlando where they're training seven more 00:08:53.86\00:08:55.92 academies from around the Southern Union, 00:08:55.95\00:08:57.88 we're meeting the South Eastern part of the United States. 00:08:57.91\00:09:01.12 So to watch these students grown in Christ, 00:09:01.15\00:09:03.69 their confidence, their leadership abilities, 00:09:03.72\00:09:06.18 only happens when we empower them with the right skills, 00:09:06.21\00:09:10.41 the techniques, the things that help them to catch 00:09:10.44\00:09:13.23 the vision and then I mentor them to become those 00:09:13.26\00:09:16.85 excellent leaders which as a beautiful thing 00:09:16.88\00:09:19.87 develops their spirituality. 00:09:19.90\00:09:21.46 Yeah, yeah. 00:09:21.49\00:09:22.55 I see there is a direct connection with labor 00:09:22.58\00:09:25.01 for the Lord and relationship to the Lord. 00:09:25.04\00:09:27.29 That's right. They are linked. 00:09:27.32\00:09:28.53 And so you guys, are actually training people 00:09:28.56\00:09:30.98 all over North America certainly 00:09:31.01\00:09:32.87 and maybe and beyond. 00:09:32.90\00:09:35.02 How is it feel to be in that capacity to train 00:09:35.05\00:09:37.33 others to learn this stuff? 00:09:37.36\00:09:39.09 Yeah, it is a great honor to be able to go to these 00:09:39.12\00:09:42.77 different places and teach these people because 00:09:42.80\00:09:46.94 they, you know, we became the experts to teach them 00:09:46.97\00:09:49.99 to make help them to become the experts 00:09:50.02\00:09:52.46 and seeing that has helped us also. 00:09:52.49\00:09:56.28 Yeah, just out of curiosity, excuse me, 00:09:56.31\00:09:58.91 what do you want to do vocationally Laura, 00:09:58.94\00:10:01.01 for your, you know, for rest of your life? 00:10:01.04\00:10:03.26 Actually I'm going to go into teaching, 00:10:03.29\00:10:05.42 education and social worker. 00:10:05.45\00:10:07.73 Okay, she kind of reminds me of a teacher 00:10:07.76\00:10:09.68 all that you know, like a college professor 00:10:09.71\00:10:12.02 kind of, you know, kind of professor. 00:10:12.05\00:10:13.46 Kevin? 00:10:13.49\00:10:15.29 I like engineering and work with my hands 00:10:15.32\00:10:16.93 and also at Heritage we do have the flight program 00:10:16.96\00:10:19.33 and I do like airplanes so I was think like 00:10:19.36\00:10:21.09 maybe an aerospace engineer would be a cool occupation. 00:10:21.12\00:10:24.57 Yeah. 00:10:24.60\00:10:25.73 David, when you go out in response to 00:10:25.76\00:10:29.13 and your ministry unlike address 00:10:29.16\00:10:30.72 some other ministries is particularly 00:10:30.75\00:10:32.87 in response to disaster as supposed 00:10:32.90\00:10:35.13 to sort of long term digging wells and kind of things. 00:10:35.16\00:10:37.06 You are there for disaster relief. 00:10:37.09\00:10:41.38 How many have you been out on? 00:10:41.41\00:10:43.13 About 100 deployments through out the world. 00:10:43.16\00:10:46.50 So the Philippians responses one of the 3ABN has showed 00:10:46.53\00:10:49.36 many times as some of the viewers may recall, 00:10:49.39\00:10:52.08 but bringing in a lot of doctors of course, 00:10:52.11\00:10:54.21 the Haiti response we brought in 7,500 responders 00:10:54.24\00:10:58.94 within the first six months. 00:10:58.97\00:11:01.10 So we're known for training and then deploying 00:11:01.13\00:11:04.09 with safety and those techniques that are correct. 00:11:04.12\00:11:06.50 Would you like to see maybe just three little pictures 00:11:06.53\00:11:08.59 of a recent deployment right in Tennessee were heritage is? 00:11:08.62\00:11:13.34 So three quick pictures that helps illustrate they were 00:11:13.37\00:11:16.63 responding, Heritage is responded to about 00:11:16.66\00:11:19.66 34 deployments. 00:11:19.69\00:11:21.61 This one was in their backyard. 00:11:21.64\00:11:23.72 And so just three quick slides that helps show pictures. 00:11:23.75\00:11:28.19 Here is Laura, right out there in the road directing traffic. 00:11:28.22\00:11:31.73 I didn't recognize you with a hood on. 00:11:31.76\00:11:33.36 Okay. 00:11:33.39\00:11:34.47 Actually those students from Heritage used our chainsaw 00:11:34.50\00:11:37.94 trailer to-- the adults were doing the chain sawing 00:11:37.97\00:11:41.27 and the youth were removing it. 00:11:41.30\00:11:42.38 They cleared six miles of highway in about six hours. 00:11:42.41\00:11:45.48 That's incredible. 00:11:45.51\00:11:46.58 The next one shows distribution, 00:11:46.61\00:11:48.34 they actually were in charge of running the emergency 00:11:48.37\00:11:51.47 warehouse, distributing emergency supplies 00:11:51.50\00:11:54.57 and the next picture shows the kitchen in action, 00:11:54.60\00:11:57.46 this kitchen is one of an example. 00:11:57.49\00:11:59.94 Now it's one thing to cook when its warm out side. 00:11:59.97\00:12:02.84 Yeah. 00:12:02.87\00:12:03.91 But Heritage wanted that continued opportunity 00:12:03.94\00:12:06.94 to cook in nine degree weather. 00:12:06.97\00:12:09.59 And so now they are cooking 100s of meals for each meal 00:12:09.62\00:12:12.90 when your propane tanks are freezing, 00:12:12.93\00:12:14.80 all of your pipes are bursting, 00:12:14.83\00:12:16.22 but they overcame it, that's flexibility. 00:12:16.25\00:12:18.90 It's adapting to the situation and they truly gained 00:12:18.93\00:12:21.86 the respect of their leaders in their community 00:12:21.89\00:12:24.87 who wondered what they are all about. 00:12:24.90\00:12:26.44 But now saw them in action and doing a plurality of ways 00:12:26.47\00:12:30.84 that helped their community be able to recover 00:12:30.87\00:12:34.63 from that terrible storm. 00:12:34.66\00:12:35.93 Yeah, yeah. 00:12:35.96\00:12:37.02 Takes just a minute Laura and Kevin, 00:12:37.05\00:12:39.43 at the end of the day you've been working all day, 00:12:39.46\00:12:41.37 you're tired, you're hot, I don't say sweaty 00:12:41.40\00:12:43.64 but that didn't fit in this particular maybe it someone 00:12:43.67\00:12:47.35 about here, but you're tired, 00:12:47.38\00:12:48.93 you are hot you serve how do you feel as you accept 00:12:48.96\00:12:51.98 a call in a bed at night? 00:12:52.01\00:12:53.10 What's going on your head? How do you feel? 00:12:53.13\00:12:55.06 How does that level of service make you feel? 00:12:55.09\00:12:57.26 I know for some people, you know, 00:13:01.06\00:13:02.11 can be overwhelming you know, it can wear you out, 00:13:02.14\00:13:04.78 but at the same time it gives you a sense of being 00:13:04.81\00:13:07.90 needed in your community, and that's really empowering 00:13:07.93\00:13:11.39 to feel like you have a role to play in not only helping 00:13:11.42\00:13:15.07 their physical needs but also being able 00:13:15.10\00:13:16.81 to direct them to Christ. 00:13:16.84\00:13:18.67 Yeah, because normally we would go on-- on the road, 00:13:18.70\00:13:22.08 some where to a and we be there for a week 00:13:22.11\00:13:23.75 but this one is in own backyard and we are in there 00:13:23.78\00:13:25.63 for actually two weeks, and then we had 00:13:25.66\00:13:28.13 our spring break right after and but it would-- 00:13:28.16\00:13:30.73 it did take a toll on the body 00:13:30.76\00:13:32.67 because we are working all day and early in the morning 00:13:32.70\00:13:36.41 and physical work and we do get tired and moral goes-- 00:13:36.44\00:13:39.87 gets down a little but trusting the Lord 00:13:39.90\00:13:42.88 is one thing that our teachers 00:13:42.91\00:13:48.78 and our deans helped us 00:13:48.81\00:13:50.79 to when we have our worships 00:13:50.82\00:13:52.92 to really focus on that also, yeah. 00:13:52.95\00:13:56.48 Yeah, excellent. Did you feel? Did you sense? 00:13:56.51\00:14:00.03 Were you aware of any increase relationship 00:14:00.06\00:14:03.54 or friendliness or acceptance by the community 00:14:03.57\00:14:06.49 once you had sort of rolled up your sleeves and got busy? 00:14:06.52\00:14:11.18 Did it change relationship between the school 00:14:11.21\00:14:13.25 and the community? 00:14:13.28\00:14:14.66 Oh, yes, because we were actually-- when the people-- 00:14:14.69\00:14:17.26 when we go out and there 00:14:17.29\00:14:18.46 and we actually talk with people 00:14:18.49\00:14:19.53 in the community, they be like 00:14:19.56\00:14:20.69 oh, you're from Heritage Academy 00:14:20.72\00:14:21.90 because now everyone knows us now, 00:14:21.93\00:14:23.45 and it also was a great witnessing opportunity 00:14:23.48\00:14:26.30 because, where you had the distribution center we would be 00:14:26.33\00:14:29.98 carrying boxes out to peoples cars with their food 00:14:30.01\00:14:32.77 and actually had the opportunity talk with 00:14:32.80\00:14:34.81 some other people and there also 00:14:34.84\00:14:36.41 they're talk about God and they would be more open 00:14:36.44\00:14:38.77 because of what's happened to them. 00:14:38.80\00:14:41.13 We might just expand a little bit where you are 00:14:41.16\00:14:43.26 going there even Elder Wilson, 00:14:43.29\00:14:44.86 the president of the General Conference 00:14:44.89\00:14:46.50 went out with me and others students 00:14:46.53\00:14:48.83 from Bass Academy two years 00:14:48.86\00:14:51.05 after Katrina had hit and longer 00:14:51.08\00:14:54.20 and we held some special meetings 00:14:54.23\00:14:56.33 that we are offering at Bass Academy. 00:14:56.36\00:14:57.83 We would knock on the door and would say, you know, 00:14:57.86\00:15:00.34 I don't know if you remember but several years ago 00:15:00.37\00:15:02.36 we were here in your community helping distributing 00:15:02.39\00:15:04.23 emergency supplies. 00:15:04.26\00:15:05.72 We just like to invite you to a special series 00:15:05.75\00:15:08.13 of you know, seminar that we are 00:15:08.16\00:15:09.67 having there at the academy in the church. 00:15:09.70\00:15:11.78 We're wondering if you would like to come. 00:15:11.81\00:15:13.01 We were signing up family after family, 00:15:13.04\00:15:15.57 because Jesus loved to meet the needs of people first, 00:15:15.60\00:15:18.82 then the hearts were opened. 00:15:18.85\00:15:20.04 Elder Wilson said, wow, this is powerful evangelism. 00:15:20.07\00:15:24.47 It's better than sending out fliers. 00:15:24.50\00:15:26.18 Oh, very much so. 00:15:26.21\00:15:27.24 It's better than trying to meet people 00:15:27.27\00:15:28.30 that you have never known. 00:15:28.33\00:15:29.36 This is what builds up confidence in you community 00:15:29.39\00:15:32.79 and that they are willing to listen 00:15:32.82\00:15:34.16 who is Heritage Academy. 00:15:34.19\00:15:35.56 Yeah, yeah, I think we first got to know you 00:15:35.59\00:15:37.71 during the Bass Academy, you are in Katrina 00:15:37.74\00:15:40.73 and we sort of developed that friendship 00:15:40.76\00:15:42.67 and you been here several times 00:15:42.70\00:15:43.77 since but as I said, before your ministry 00:15:43.80\00:15:45.54 has grown exponentially and God has blessed. 00:15:45.57\00:15:48.45 I want to do something real quick little commercial 00:15:48.48\00:15:50.23 for you, David. 00:15:50.26\00:15:51.53 Because you got two books "First Response, 00:15:51.56\00:15:55.42 Change Your World Through Acts of Love," 00:15:55.45\00:15:57.55 and I think that's fabulous, 00:15:57.58\00:15:59.77 acts of love and then you have this in Spanish also. 00:15:59.80\00:16:02.34 Yes. Primeros Auxilios. Yes. 00:16:02.37\00:16:05.95 Yeah, my wife would be very ashamed of me. 00:16:05.98\00:16:07.69 Well, a lot of the training which actually we do 00:16:07.72\00:16:09.70 is in a lot of Central and South American countries. 00:16:09.73\00:16:13.00 So the Spanish one comes in very helpful and our growing 00:16:13.03\00:16:15.63 population in the US, but I was in Mexico 00:16:15.66\00:16:18.62 just a few weeks ago training 400 master guides, 00:16:18.65\00:16:22.09 they were gonna talk about in a moment. 00:16:22.12\00:16:23.77 But the beautiful thing is when we could be able to 00:16:23.80\00:16:26.62 give them tools that help them power them 00:16:26.65\00:16:29.27 to help go back and create the enthusiasm in their days 00:16:29.30\00:16:32.82 so their churches can grow in their community. 00:16:32.85\00:16:35.31 Praise the Christ. 00:16:35.34\00:16:36.38 When you trained, our churches groups that you go 00:16:36.41\00:16:39.71 to are they generally very receptive? 00:16:39.74\00:16:41.35 Do they see how this is an opening door 00:16:41.38\00:16:44.07 to almost any kind of evangelism 00:16:44.10\00:16:45.68 you want to do. 00:16:45.71\00:16:46.74 You kind of put legs on you faith 00:16:46.77\00:16:48.57 and you go to the streets and then people are 00:16:48.60\00:16:50.53 so much more accepted. 00:16:50.56\00:16:51.95 Do you get that as you go around? 00:16:51.98\00:16:54.00 I was a pastor for 32 years, primarily in Florida. 00:16:54.03\00:16:57.06 We did a lot of creative evangelism 00:16:57.09\00:16:58.88 but then I started doing more in emergency 00:16:58.91\00:17:00.99 response training. 00:17:01.02\00:17:02.39 Since I do that full time now, 00:17:02.42\00:17:04.16 it is exciting to me the fulfillment 00:17:04.19\00:17:06.95 which is see in not only younger youth 00:17:06.98\00:17:09.52 but older young adult, 00:17:09.55\00:17:11.90 individuals they go wow, that is something 00:17:11.93\00:17:15.32 that I can be able to use the talents that God 00:17:15.35\00:17:18.77 has given to me to go out and train others 00:17:18.80\00:17:21.49 and it leads to emotional and spiritual care. 00:17:21.52\00:17:24.59 It's a wonderful tool that God is using in the last days 00:17:24.62\00:17:27.39 because there are more and more natural disasters happening. 00:17:27.42\00:17:31.03 And God says, get prepared now. 00:17:31.06\00:17:33.69 And as we prepare them and they get in equipped 00:17:33.72\00:17:36.63 it's tremendous to see the multiplication of our adults 00:17:36.66\00:17:41.51 and youth around the world saying, 00:17:41.54\00:17:43.15 that's something I can do to help people now. 00:17:43.18\00:17:45.73 Yeah, yeah, what exciting about this, 00:17:45.76\00:17:47.75 as you look at the prophetic landscape this kind of thing 00:17:47.78\00:17:51.43 is gonna be happening more and more. 00:17:51.46\00:17:52.81 That's right. So the need is gonna increase. 00:17:52.84\00:17:54.44 You know, as and the fact that you are getting 00:17:54.47\00:17:56.96 young people, particularly millennia's involved 00:17:56.99\00:17:59.60 who we are-- people are saying, entitled and they have this 00:17:59.63\00:18:03.08 entitled thing that they are saying yeah, 00:18:03.11\00:18:05.69 we want to serve, you know, we want to get our hands dirty, 00:18:05.72\00:18:08.95 we want to get in there and help and lift up 00:18:08.98\00:18:10.68 in the name of Jesus. 00:18:10.71\00:18:11.74 And the fact that they are-- they are excited 00:18:11.77\00:18:13.37 so it excites someone like me because you see, 00:18:13.40\00:18:15.71 that the torch is being passed 00:18:15.74\00:18:16.85 to a group of young people who really care. 00:18:16.88\00:18:18.63 And I'm sure you see that on a daily basis. 00:18:18.66\00:18:20.34 Really is. 00:18:20.37\00:18:21.41 Let me show you just a few quick little pictures 00:18:21.44\00:18:23.22 of some training and then we are gonna put you 00:18:23.25\00:18:25.58 on the spot and I'm gonna ask Laura 00:18:25.61\00:18:27.44 she could train to train you and on the spot 00:18:27.47\00:18:29.81 on saving the infants life. 00:18:29.84\00:18:32.24 All right? Yeah. 00:19:44.35\00:19:45.89 Okay, so-- Hope that the patient lives. 00:19:45.92\00:19:47.57 Yeah. 00:19:47.60\00:19:49.22 So, with the manikins we use, 00:19:49.25\00:19:52.23 we're gonna want to turn it on before we use it, okay. 00:19:52.26\00:19:54.28 And that you want to keep your compressions 00:19:54.31\00:19:58.78 consistence and deep enough so you don't want the red light 00:19:58.81\00:20:02.55 to come on, that means you killed it. 00:20:02.58\00:20:04.55 You don't want the yellow light to come on, 00:20:04.58\00:20:06.05 that's not good either. 00:20:06.08\00:20:07.49 So the objective is to get the two green lights 00:20:07.52\00:20:10.97 to light up like this, okay. 00:20:11.00\00:20:13.76 One of the big things that we're teaching 00:20:13.79\00:20:14.92 when we're going through and teaching 00:20:14.95\00:20:16.33 this to students is teamwork when it comes to CPR 00:20:16.36\00:20:20.31 because CPR can be very tiring. 00:20:20.34\00:20:22.40 You get worn-out really quickly. 00:20:22.43\00:20:23.72 So one of the big things we're emphasizing that it is 00:20:23.75\00:20:26.16 teamwork how to switch off from one person to other, 00:20:26.19\00:20:27.87 so that's what I'm gonna teach you. 00:20:27.90\00:20:28.93 Okay. Okay. All right. 00:20:28.96\00:20:30.04 So I'm gonna be giving the compressions and when you-- 00:20:30.07\00:20:33.19 You got the green lights? Yeah, that's the green lights. 00:20:33.22\00:20:34.89 Okay, when you go to switch off, 00:20:34.92\00:20:36.22 you're gonna want to put your hands up underneath her. 00:20:36.25\00:20:38.03 Oh, yeah. I'm gonna count to three. 00:20:38.06\00:20:40.13 One, two, three, and you're gonna take over. 00:20:40.16\00:20:43.12 There you go, green color. 00:20:43.15\00:20:45.08 Patient lived. Yes. 00:20:45.11\00:20:47.91 Yep and that's-- Okay. 00:20:47.94\00:20:48.97 So you want to-- the thing is you don't want to break 00:20:49.00\00:20:50.79 the rhythm that you established 00:20:50.82\00:20:52.76 because if you stop, sure enough. 00:20:52.79\00:20:55.20 Well, you keep going and then it goes-- 00:20:55.23\00:20:56.34 The red light goes off, okay, already. 00:20:56.37\00:20:57.79 Well done. Thank you so much. 00:20:57.82\00:20:59.44 So we try to use 00:20:59.47\00:21:00.80 some of the best training devices out today. 00:21:00.83\00:21:03.50 These are called Prestan Manikins. 00:21:03.53\00:21:05.33 We have many adult manikins. 00:21:05.36\00:21:07.18 If you're teaching choking, you are teaching CPR, 00:21:07.21\00:21:10.13 RCP in Spanish, of training on the best equipment 00:21:10.16\00:21:14.32 available today and that's what many of these students 00:21:14.35\00:21:17.30 have learned on, so they can teach with the right tools. 00:21:17.33\00:21:21.00 Now your training is an addition to what they may 00:21:21.03\00:21:23.96 get from FEMA or some other-- 00:21:23.99\00:21:25.59 The foundation of training actually 00:21:25.62\00:21:27.39 from GR3 ACTS World Relief is they, all every year, 00:21:27.42\00:21:31.46 all the students in their academy 00:21:31.49\00:21:32.92 for example go online. 00:21:32.95\00:21:34.58 They take ICS that's Incident Command Systems, 00:21:34.61\00:21:37.55 100, 200, 700, 800, so then CERT online. 00:21:37.58\00:21:43.32 So in another words they are gaining a foundation 00:21:43.35\00:21:45.41 that a lot of emergency professionals 00:21:45.44\00:21:47.47 are required to take. 00:21:47.50\00:21:49.00 So they can relate to them in deployments, 00:21:49.03\00:21:50.99 CERT training. 00:21:51.02\00:21:52.10 They go wow, you are ICS trained. 00:21:52.13\00:21:53.62 You understand Incident Command Systems 00:21:53.65\00:21:56.86 and so with that foundation they all have to pass things 00:21:56.89\00:22:00.33 that many adults say, 00:22:00.36\00:22:01.47 oh, that's too hard, it's too boring. 00:22:01.50\00:22:03.51 But that's what they do. They do it well. 00:22:03.54\00:22:05.57 And now this is technical training. 00:22:05.60\00:22:07.70 On top of that we have nine modules 00:22:07.73\00:22:09.39 that we've developed. 00:22:09.42\00:22:10.85 What I've done is paid 00:22:10.88\00:22:12.75 many leading world organizations 00:22:12.78\00:22:15.00 who excel in things like water rescue. 00:22:15.03\00:22:18.65 We're gonna ask Kevin to demonstrate maybe that now, 00:22:18.68\00:22:21.49 but the training module that they have learned 00:22:21.52\00:22:23.45 to go through is training on the technical things 00:22:23.48\00:22:26.16 from the world's best organizations 00:22:26.19\00:22:28.91 who I've purchased their materials, 00:22:28.94\00:22:30.75 designed them for GR3 and now they can do a pretest, 00:22:30.78\00:22:34.91 posttest and then get their hands to show, 00:22:34.94\00:22:37.77 are you getting the particle part. 00:22:37.80\00:22:39.94 So Kevin is going to illustrate water rescue. 00:22:39.97\00:22:43.48 Water rescue we might add flooding is the number one 00:22:43.51\00:22:47.40 cause of deaths around the world now. 00:22:47.43\00:22:50.02 Increased rains and mudslides happening 00:22:50.05\00:22:52.89 and so would you like to teach C.A., 00:22:52.92\00:22:55.62 and have him learn a little bit about water rescue. 00:22:55.65\00:23:00.03 Well, with water rescue there's also a few hands 00:23:00.06\00:23:02.71 signals that you have to do. 00:23:02.74\00:23:05.46 This-- can you help me here? Okay. 00:23:05.49\00:23:08.99 So, Laurel, what are some hand signals 00:23:09.02\00:23:10.70 with water rescue? 00:23:10.73\00:23:11.76 Okay. 00:23:11.79\00:23:12.85 So when you pat yourself on the head like this, 00:23:12.88\00:23:14.38 that means you're okay. 00:23:14.41\00:23:15.81 It's okay, don't throw the bag until you see this. 00:23:15.84\00:23:19.16 Okay. Let me just stop you. 00:23:19.19\00:23:21.14 A rescuer, someone who's there to save me 00:23:21.17\00:23:23.87 would recognize that, that's what I'm saying. 00:23:23.90\00:23:25.87 So he's trained to recognize that as, okay. 00:23:25.90\00:23:28.24 Or even yells out to tell them these signals 00:23:28.27\00:23:31.04 so he understands. 00:23:31.07\00:23:32.12 Ah, I see, okay. What's the another one? 00:23:32.15\00:23:34.18 Yeah, stop which is universal term stop. 00:23:34.21\00:23:37.52 And also if you need medical you have the medical symbol. 00:23:37.55\00:23:40.45 So in other words you don't you throw the rescue device 00:23:40.48\00:23:42.83 to them if they are doing this or if they are doing that. 00:23:42.86\00:23:46.27 Okay. Good. Yeah. 00:23:46.30\00:23:48.87 Well, we have our throw bag here 00:23:48.90\00:23:50.52 and what you want to do is, 00:23:50.55\00:23:51.89 you have, you want to hold this part 00:23:51.92\00:23:53.30 in your left hand here. 00:23:53.33\00:23:55.53 And we're gonna do an underhand throw. 00:23:55.56\00:23:57.59 Well, one thing that you do, what you want to do is 00:23:57.62\00:23:59.81 a throw at upstream and you also want to go over 00:23:59.84\00:24:02.20 the person because if you don't want to fall short. 00:24:02.23\00:24:06.22 So I'm gonna-- So you're gonna hold it here 00:24:06.25\00:24:09.52 and then you're throw underhand. 00:24:09.55\00:24:11.51 Make sure you don't hit anyone and then you throw it 00:24:11.54\00:24:13.83 like that and then they will grab it and they will put it 00:24:13.86\00:24:17.13 behind them and then you pull them in. 00:24:17.16\00:24:20.25 They would turn around-- Yeah. 00:24:20.28\00:24:21.95 So that they are being pulled backwards 00:24:21.98\00:24:23.75 with the rope over their right shoulder. 00:24:23.78\00:24:25.12 Yes, yes. 00:24:25.15\00:24:26.30 Also you want them facing away from you. 00:24:26.33\00:24:27.95 Correct. 00:24:27.98\00:24:29.01 If they just grab it and they pull forward, 00:24:29.04\00:24:31.28 what happens, Laura? 00:24:31.31\00:24:32.45 It drags them under and drown. 00:24:32.48\00:24:34.42 They would drown and-- 00:24:34.45\00:24:35.83 And turning around to keep your head up. 00:24:35.86\00:24:36.89 Correct, yeah. Yes. Yes. 00:24:36.92\00:24:38.17 Yeah. Yeah. 00:24:38.20\00:24:39.24 See little thing, I say throw your face so I can see 00:24:39.27\00:24:40.99 your eyes. 00:24:41.02\00:24:42.25 I'm telling you. Well done. 00:24:42.28\00:24:44.03 Well done. 00:24:44.06\00:24:45.27 So that just gives you a little idea. 00:24:45.30\00:24:47.21 Now in the next segment right after the song, 00:24:47.24\00:24:50.33 would you like to see a little bit 00:24:50.36\00:24:51.39 more training by some of you? 00:24:51.42\00:24:52.59 Yeah, really would, really would. 00:24:52.62\00:24:54.36 This is exciting. And so you're-- 00:24:54.39\00:24:56.09 You guys are in New York 00:24:58.67\00:24:59.82 a couple of years ago for the big storm there? 00:24:59.85\00:25:03.48 Actually they deployed in New Jersey for Sandy. 00:25:03.51\00:25:06.75 For Sandy, yeah, yeah. 00:25:06.78\00:25:08.22 It was as much-- it was New York, New Jersey, 00:25:08.25\00:25:11.49 Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, 00:25:11.52\00:25:14.37 just what everything up there was impacted by that. 00:25:14.40\00:25:16.55 So you had chance actually to do, 00:25:16.58\00:25:17.99 to do some of these things. 00:25:18.02\00:25:20.44 Yeah, yeah, that is really, really exciting. 00:25:20.47\00:25:23.55 And as we said before, so very, very necessary. 00:25:23.58\00:25:28.28 Now let me ask you this. 00:25:28.31\00:25:29.69 Once you get on scene, I mean, you come in there, 00:25:29.72\00:25:32.33 you're eager to help, there are already government 00:25:32.36\00:25:34.98 individuals there. 00:25:35.01\00:25:36.07 What can you say or what would you say 00:25:36.10\00:25:38.94 so that they know, you know what you're doing? 00:25:38.97\00:25:41.23 Because one of the things you don't want 00:25:41.26\00:25:43.17 is a lot of people who don't have training, 00:25:43.20\00:25:45.00 don't know what they are doing, 00:25:45.03\00:25:46.08 who are willing but don't have the skill because that 00:25:46.11\00:25:48.38 just makes it worse for the government people, 00:25:48.41\00:25:49.86 then you get into this adversary 00:25:49.89\00:25:51.28 kind of relationship. 00:25:51.31\00:25:52.48 But what did you say so that I would know right away, 00:25:52.51\00:25:55.92 oh, yeah, Laura knows what she's doing. 00:25:55.95\00:25:57.66 Tell me about that. 00:25:57.69\00:25:58.77 So you've asked an excellent question. 00:25:58.80\00:26:00.98 Let's illustrate it with super storm Sandy. 00:26:01.01\00:26:04.47 Immediately as it's typically, 00:26:04.50\00:26:06.43 they will begin putting on the television, 00:26:06.46\00:26:08.81 volunteers not needed. 00:26:08.84\00:26:10.45 They don't need a bunch of world meaning 00:26:10.48\00:26:11.72 volunteers coming into a disaster 00:26:11.75\00:26:13.42 because this leads to more disaster. 00:26:13.45\00:26:15.13 And so what I began doing was contacting all kinds of-- 00:26:15.16\00:26:19.31 and New Jersey was very strong with CERT trained 00:26:19.34\00:26:22.00 the trainers, probably more than any other state, 00:26:22.03\00:26:24.48 lot of CERT trained individuals, 00:26:24.51\00:26:26.12 adults that worked with the Emergency Operation Center. 00:26:26.15\00:26:28.72 So I began reaching out to them. 00:26:28.75\00:26:30.46 And I said, we have 60 youth who are CERT trained 00:26:30.49\00:26:34.43 would you need their assistance? 00:26:34.46\00:26:36.93 And he said, you have 60 that are CERT trained? 00:26:36.96\00:26:40.60 I said yes, they are within 30 minutes of you 00:26:40.63\00:26:43.59 and they are willing to help assist in anyway. 00:26:43.62\00:26:46.62 And he said, I will make a phone call. 00:26:46.65\00:26:48.90 Right now I will meet their boss and I would like them 00:26:48.93\00:26:52.21 to assist the National Guard. 00:26:52.24\00:26:55.14 Now keep in mind, they were turning away people 00:26:55.17\00:26:56.79 by the thousands. 00:26:56.82\00:26:58.63 But immediately because of the training 00:26:58.66\00:27:01.17 they said we need your help now. 00:27:01.20\00:27:03.18 So what did you do with super storm Sandy 00:27:03.21\00:27:06.41 that you kind of got involved with National Guard? 00:27:06.44\00:27:09.92 With super storm Sandy they had a lot of boxes 00:27:09.95\00:27:12.66 of MRE's which are meals ready to eat. 00:27:12.69\00:27:15.15 They use them in the army. 00:27:15.18\00:27:16.29 You just from a packet you break it and it keeps it up. 00:27:16.32\00:27:18.90 So they needed to move all of these from the school 00:27:18.93\00:27:22.04 into a warehouse. 00:27:22.07\00:27:23.89 So we got there. 00:27:23.92\00:27:25.76 When we went on to Sandy we got into the place 00:27:25.79\00:27:27.98 where we're staying, really late, 00:27:28.01\00:27:29.18 I think 2 o'clock in the morning 00:27:29.21\00:27:30.38 something like that and we got up early around six 00:27:30.41\00:27:33.77 the next morning to go and start responding. 00:27:33.80\00:27:37.00 And they gave us this task which I don't know 00:27:37.03\00:27:39.52 how many boxes we must have moved. 00:27:39.55\00:27:41.56 Many pallets. Yeah. 00:27:41.59\00:27:42.72 We were there from like 00:27:42.75\00:27:45.75 10 until like 12 at night, I believe it was. 00:27:45.78\00:27:48.70 So what the Emergency Operation Center told me, 00:27:48.73\00:27:52.59 the students are moving pallets of these MRE's 00:27:52.62\00:27:55.34 at a phenomenal rate and they accomplish 00:27:55.37\00:27:58.26 that within about six hours and basically they said 00:27:58.29\00:28:02.69 it would have taken us a week and half to accomplish 00:28:02.72\00:28:05.53 what they did in a short time. 00:28:05.56\00:28:07.77 So it's that type of energy that youth have. 00:28:07.80\00:28:11.10 They want to be used if rightly trained. 00:28:11.13\00:28:13.94 I want to hear, so if they can trust that you know 00:28:13.97\00:28:15.57 what you're doing, you're gonna be a help not a hinder. 00:28:15.60\00:28:18.08 Yes. Yeah, very good. 00:28:18.11\00:28:20.46 Have you been called-- we know you were in Tennessee 00:28:20.49\00:28:22.97 taking care of your own town. 00:28:23.00\00:28:24.39 You know, when you were in any place else? 00:28:24.42\00:28:26.88 Well, we were too up to hurricane Sandy, 00:28:26.91\00:28:28.75 I did, that was my freshman year. 00:28:28.78\00:28:30.71 We've had several different, not necessarily deployments 00:28:30.74\00:28:33.55 to respond to disasters, but several different trainings 00:28:33.58\00:28:36.13 that we've done. 00:28:36.16\00:28:37.74 Last year my sophomore year we went up to Boston 00:28:37.77\00:28:40.67 and we helped train some of the Harvard medical professional 00:28:40.70\00:28:44.01 there doing a disaster simulation. 00:28:44.04\00:28:46.88 We went up there to do moulage for them 00:28:46.91\00:28:48.69 and different things like that 00:28:48.72\00:28:49.75 and we got to participate in that. 00:28:49.78\00:28:51.93 We also went to New York at the beginning of this year 00:28:51.96\00:28:53.73 and did some training there, similar to the training 00:28:53.76\00:28:56.46 we did on, down in Florida which was train the trainer 00:28:56.49\00:28:59.32 where we worked with like 15 different schools up there 00:28:59.35\00:29:03.23 helping train their young peoples 00:29:03.26\00:29:04.68 so they can train other young people 00:29:04.71\00:29:06.38 and thus empowering them to serve. 00:29:06.41\00:29:08.27 And then we also did that down in Florida. 00:29:08.30\00:29:09.54 Great. 00:29:09.57\00:29:10.60 You mentioned this before and sort of brush by moulage. 00:29:10.63\00:29:13.05 What is that term mean? 00:29:13.08\00:29:15.91 Moulage is where you take a healthy person and make them 00:29:15.94\00:29:19.84 look wounded. 00:29:19.87\00:29:21.84 So it's kind of an art even if it is 00:29:21.87\00:29:24.82 kind of a disgusting art. 00:29:24.85\00:29:27.50 It's to reenact disaster simulation, 00:29:27.53\00:29:30.25 so it looks real. 00:29:30.28\00:29:31.42 So it's easier for them to respond in a real way. 00:29:31.45\00:29:33.93 In a real way, yeah, yeah, excellent, excellent. 00:29:33.96\00:29:36.19 And that's why they ask her just to do the moulage 00:29:36.22\00:29:38.44 at the training she was mentioning even up 00:29:38.47\00:29:40.29 at the Harvard, with Boston, 00:29:40.32\00:29:41.68 because of how professionally they do it. 00:29:41.71\00:29:44.42 Heritage also for a number of years has done that 00:29:44.45\00:29:47.37 in Orlando for the Orlando International Airport, 00:29:47.40\00:29:49.68 all the moulage. 00:29:49.71\00:29:50.79 So these youth can do even better than adults 00:29:50.82\00:29:54.57 with moulage and training and build that confidence. 00:29:54.60\00:29:58.43 So we love to be able to share the vision 00:29:58.46\00:30:01.01 of how you can do even better what adults do. 00:30:01.04\00:30:03.65 They rise to the challenge and God uses them. 00:30:03.68\00:30:05.34 Yeah. 00:30:05.37\00:30:06.41 I'm curious how and before we go to our song 00:30:06.44\00:30:08.34 and make our little switch here, 00:30:08.37\00:30:10.16 how did you get contact 00:30:10.19\00:30:12.29 or connected with Harvard to get access to their 00:30:12.32\00:30:15.06 physicians who certainly need this kind of training? 00:30:15.09\00:30:17.65 Actually the connection came when we're doing 00:30:17.68\00:30:21.06 the Orlando International Airport, 00:30:21.09\00:30:23.17 a number of different opportunities when I'm dealing 00:30:23.20\00:30:25.55 with a lot of emergency personnel. 00:30:25.58\00:30:27.08 This particular degree that they attract, 00:30:27.11\00:30:29.86 it's a largest fellowship in the world on Emergency 00:30:29.89\00:30:32.62 Management Disaster Response. 00:30:32.65\00:30:34.80 They said, okay, we know that technically, 00:30:34.83\00:30:37.10 medically correct things to do. 00:30:37.13\00:30:39.16 But what we need is experience in the field 00:30:39.19\00:30:41.72 and you've been on a lot of deployments. 00:30:41.75\00:30:43.73 So we want that experience for docs. 00:30:43.76\00:30:45.99 So when they go back to their country, 00:30:46.02\00:30:47.59 they can lead the country as medical directorate. 00:30:47.62\00:30:50.71 They need that practical experience. 00:30:50.74\00:30:53.05 Well, people like here Heritage, other schools, 00:30:53.08\00:30:55.00 many schools we've deployed over two-- 00:30:55.03\00:30:57.16 well, actually about 280,000 volunteers. 00:30:57.19\00:31:00.54 So basically they said, we want to go with you 00:31:00.57\00:31:04.10 and that's how God has opened the door to involving down 00:31:04.13\00:31:07.60 around the world. 00:31:07.63\00:31:08.92 Praise the Lord. Well done. 00:31:08.95\00:31:10.26 Thank you both so very, very much. 00:31:10.29\00:31:12.81 We want to go to our music at this time and we're gonna 00:31:12.84\00:31:16.75 bring on two more guests. 00:31:16.78\00:31:18.46 Our message of music is coming this day 00:31:18.49\00:31:20.30 from Valerie Walker, Valerie Shelton Walker, 00:31:20.33\00:31:23.13 and she's gonna be singing "Even in the Valley." 00:31:23.16\00:31:25.97 High upon this mountain 00:31:43.17\00:31:47.07 The sun is shining bright 00:31:47.10\00:31:50.91 My heart is filled With gladness 00:31:50.94\00:31:55.32 Here above the cares of life 00:31:55.35\00:31:59.35 But I've just come Through the valley 00:31:59.38\00:32:03.34 Of trouble fear and pain 00:32:03.37\00:32:07.58 It was there I came to know my God 00:32:07.61\00:32:12.76 Enough to stand and say... 00:32:12.79\00:32:14.77 Even in the valley God is good 00:32:18.44\00:32:24.31 Even in the valley 00:32:26.81\00:32:30.22 He is faithful and true 00:32:30.25\00:32:34.56 He carries His children through 00:32:34.59\00:32:38.97 Like He said He would 00:32:39.00\00:32:43.31 Even in the valley God is good 00:32:43.34\00:32:50.09 This road of life has lead you 00:32:59.25\00:33:03.43 To a valley of defeat 00:33:03.46\00:33:07.82 You wonder if the Father 00:33:07.85\00:33:11.86 Has heard your desperate plea 00:33:11.89\00:33:15.86 There is hope In that rugged place 00:33:15.89\00:33:20.20 Where tears of sorrow dwell 00:33:20.23\00:33:24.00 Can't you hear Him Gently whispering 00:33:24.03\00:33:28.37 I'm here and all is well 00:33:28.40\00:33:32.54 Even in the valley 00:33:34.92\00:33:38.49 God is good 00:33:38.52\00:33:43.30 Even in the valley 00:33:43.33\00:33:46.89 He is faithful and true 00:33:46.92\00:33:51.37 He carries His children through 00:33:51.40\00:33:55.50 Like He said He would 00:33:55.53\00:33:59.71 Even in the valley God is good 00:33:59.74\00:34:06.26 God is good 00:34:13.20\00:34:16.12 Thank you, Valerie Walker. Well done. 00:34:21.62\00:34:23.73 "Even in the valley God is good." 00:34:23.76\00:34:25.11 Well, we've made a little change. 00:34:25.14\00:34:27.03 Well, David, you are the one consistent who is here 00:34:27.06\00:34:29.35 but we've got-- let's see Rebecca Nelson 00:34:29.38\00:34:32.25 and Derek Onjukka. 00:34:32.28\00:34:34.26 Yes, Onjukka. 00:34:34.29\00:34:35.52 Onjukka, good to have you both here. 00:34:35.55\00:34:37.84 Rebecca, where are you from? 00:34:37.87\00:34:39.11 I'm from New York City, Queens. 00:34:39.14\00:34:40.87 All right. Queens, New York. 00:34:40.90\00:34:42.78 Oh, my pastored too short of Queens, 00:34:42.81\00:34:44.99 Springfield Gardens and out in Far Rockaway. 00:34:45.02\00:34:48.69 Okay. So I know Queens quite well. 00:34:48.72\00:34:50.55 And Derek, you are from where? 00:34:50.58\00:34:52.79 I live in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. 00:34:52.82\00:34:55.55 Okay. 00:34:55.58\00:34:58.38 I know that's in north. 00:34:58.41\00:34:59.44 I haven't been to Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. 00:34:59.47\00:35:01.72 Good to have you guys, here. 00:35:01.75\00:35:02.84 And I've asked all of the students, 00:35:02.87\00:35:05.04 so I would ask you that question 00:35:05.07\00:35:06.11 also before we get into, what we've got to do 00:35:06.14\00:35:07.96 and it moves us kind of quickly. 00:35:07.99\00:35:10.00 Why did you choose Heritage, Rebecca? 00:35:10.03\00:35:12.61 Well, you know growing up in New York its really busy, 00:35:12.64\00:35:16.20 life is, you know, really hectic all the time. 00:35:16.23\00:35:18.92 And I think, I went to a conference school, 00:35:18.95\00:35:23.89 an Adventist conference school as a freshman 00:35:23.92\00:35:26.02 but I didn't feel like I was growing close to God. 00:35:26.05\00:35:29.13 I mean just city life and everything. 00:35:29.16\00:35:31.52 I just didn't feel like connection and I think God 00:35:31.55\00:35:34.52 led me to Heritage Academy. 00:35:34.55\00:35:35.77 I've heard of it from a friend and when I went to visit, 00:35:35.80\00:35:38.56 I was like, I think this is where God wants me to be. 00:35:38.59\00:35:41.04 And I really felt like I just grew so much more spiritually. 00:35:41.07\00:35:44.79 So it was a conscious decision for a spiritual growth? 00:35:44.82\00:35:46.65 Yes. 00:35:46.68\00:35:47.75 Yeah, because I chaired the Board of Northeastern 00:35:47.78\00:35:49.14 Academy for many years and Greater New York Academy 00:35:49.17\00:35:51.41 is right there in Queens. 00:35:51.44\00:35:53.32 So I know them both quite well, 00:35:53.35\00:35:55.73 but they are city schools and nowhere to get around it. 00:35:55.76\00:35:58.13 They are city schools and crowed 00:35:58.16\00:35:59.88 and you got all that New York stuff to deal with. 00:35:59.91\00:36:02.37 So you were able to find God little easier 00:36:02.40\00:36:04.43 and little better at Heritage. 00:36:04.46\00:36:05.79 Yeah, definitely. All right, Derek? 00:36:05.82\00:36:07.48 Well, my brother actually was the first one who found out 00:36:07.51\00:36:10.11 about Heritage and he wanted to go there 00:36:10.14\00:36:12.35 because of their flight program that they offer. 00:36:12.38\00:36:14.26 So I kind of came as a tagalong, 00:36:14.29\00:36:16.21 so I'm not really sure it was, you know, 00:36:16.24\00:36:17.82 what I was gonna do there. 00:36:17.85\00:36:18.88 But I felt God was you know calling me to be there 00:36:18.91\00:36:21.30 and I had no idea how much I would learn there 00:36:21.33\00:36:24.13 and how much closer I would come to God. 00:36:24.16\00:36:26.14 So yeah, I think it's, you know, 00:36:26.17\00:36:28.63 His divine plan that He used my brother, you know, 00:36:28.66\00:36:30.61 and his interest in the flight program to bring me 00:36:30.64\00:36:32.82 there and to do what I do there now. 00:36:32.85\00:36:34.58 So that I suspect you both kind of agree that being 00:36:34.61\00:36:36.99 at Heritage as far as part of your spiritual growth 00:36:37.02\00:36:39.75 it's positive? 00:36:39.78\00:36:40.81 Yes. Most definitely. 00:36:40.84\00:36:41.87 Yeah. Great, great. 00:36:41.90\00:36:42.93 Now, David, we got some stuff to go through here, 00:36:42.96\00:36:44.54 don't we? 00:36:44.57\00:36:46.14 Yeah, we better, before our time gets away. 00:36:46.17\00:36:48.37 We had a lot of fun in the last segment 00:36:48.40\00:36:49.87 with some training and now these are 00:36:49.90\00:36:52.82 a couple more of our expert train the trainers. 00:36:52.85\00:36:55.56 We're gonna ask if Derek could be able to train you 00:36:55.59\00:36:59.10 on doing something that's very, very important 00:36:59.13\00:37:02.01 and that is how to prevent chocking 00:37:02.04\00:37:04.13 or help somebody who is chocking, 00:37:04.16\00:37:06.51 'cause you only got 45 seconds to get whatever is 00:37:06.54\00:37:09.77 lodged in your throat possibly to get that out 00:37:09.80\00:37:12.48 or you're gonna-- 00:37:12.51\00:37:13.56 If you're alone you're gonna faint 00:37:13.59\00:37:14.64 and die at home. 00:37:14.67\00:37:15.98 So Derek is going to help give some hands on demonstration 00:37:16.01\00:37:19.01 and teach you a little bit how to do 00:37:19.04\00:37:20.59 the Heimlich and we'll turn it over to Derek. 00:37:20.62\00:37:22.71 And actually two things specialize in if you will 00:37:22.74\00:37:25.75 in disaster training as the medical aspects of it 00:37:25.78\00:37:28.48 which includes the chocking and also real quickly 00:37:28.51\00:37:30.78 I would mention the wound care that we do as well. 00:37:30.81\00:37:32.81 And we teach people how to respond in a disaster 00:37:32.84\00:37:35.68 and how to take care of wounds, simple wounds 00:37:35.71\00:37:37.28 whether it's like a small ulceration 00:37:37.31\00:37:39.19 or we even have a simulation of how people respond to like 00:37:39.22\00:37:42.11 an amputated arm and we teach them how to turn 00:37:42.14\00:37:44.71 and kit that and how to stop the bleeding. 00:37:44.74\00:37:46.46 And like he said the second thing we do is chocking. 00:37:46.49\00:37:49.53 And we have the nice chocking vest to teach that with. 00:37:49.56\00:37:52.00 And actually we have someone here 00:37:52.03\00:37:53.56 and I'll actually teach you how to do it. 00:37:53.59\00:37:55.45 Okay. So you can stand right here. 00:37:55.48\00:37:58.97 So the first thing you want to look for and recognize 00:37:59.00\00:38:02.52 for a person who is chocking and he is our chocking victim. 00:38:02.55\00:38:04.94 It's the universal sign for chocking which his two hands 00:38:04.97\00:38:07.44 on the throat like that. 00:38:07.47\00:38:08.81 And the first thing you want to do if you see someone 00:38:08.84\00:38:10.81 like that is come up and ask for confirmation, 00:38:10.84\00:38:12.90 are you chocking? 00:38:12.93\00:38:13.98 And of course they won't be able to respond because 00:38:14.01\00:38:16.13 there's something in their airway. 00:38:16.16\00:38:17.19 But you'll be able to know if they are chocking. 00:38:17.22\00:38:19.54 And if you want to come over here behind him? 00:38:19.57\00:38:21.36 Okay. 00:38:21.39\00:38:23.40 The first thing you want to do before doing 00:38:23.43\00:38:25.62 the abdominal thrust which you probably heard 00:38:25.65\00:38:27.65 before I mention is you want to try dislodge 00:38:27.68\00:38:30.07 what's ever in their airway by doing a few upward quick 00:38:30.10\00:38:32.80 and strong like hits right there on the back. 00:38:32.83\00:38:35.37 So we have this nice pad here where you can do that. 00:38:35.40\00:38:36.60 And just hit him like that? 00:38:36.63\00:38:37.66 Yeah, really hard like upward, 00:38:37.69\00:38:38.72 of course not too hard. 00:38:38.75\00:38:39.78 Oh, really hard? 00:38:39.81\00:38:40.84 Yeah, there's some padding here. 00:38:40.87\00:38:43.97 So, yeah, you do that pretty hard 00:38:44.00\00:38:45.07 though in a real situation. 00:38:45.10\00:38:46.47 If that doesn't work, what you're gonna do 00:38:46.50\00:38:48.36 is make sure his legs are shoulder width apart 00:38:48.39\00:38:50.58 and what's important 00:38:50.61\00:38:52.37 is you want to put one of your legs 00:38:52.40\00:38:53.52 between his legs a little bit forward 00:38:53.55\00:38:55.34 because after you do the abdominal thrust 00:38:55.37\00:38:57.20 a lot of times people will pass out. 00:38:57.23\00:38:58.94 So that's just so you can catch them so they are not 00:38:58.97\00:39:00.84 falling on their face on the floor. 00:39:00.87\00:39:02.35 So you can just guide them down gentle. 00:39:02.38\00:39:04.23 So what you're gonna do is take your non dominant hand, 00:39:04.26\00:39:06.77 so if I'm right handed you take your left hand 00:39:06.80\00:39:09.77 and put your thumb like that and you're gonna reach around 00:39:09.80\00:39:11.90 and put it right in front here, there's a nice little X, 00:39:11.93\00:39:13.86 so you would be like right there. 00:39:13.89\00:39:15.05 Now take your stronger hand and put it over that, 00:39:15.08\00:39:17.82 like that and then you just gonna do a quick upward thrust. 00:39:17.85\00:39:20.67 Upward thrust. Oh. 00:39:20.70\00:39:22.60 And there we go, that came out of the airway, good job. 00:39:22.63\00:39:24.61 Okay, he lived. 00:39:24.64\00:39:25.68 So, Derek, as you were mentioning if he's home alone, 00:39:28.20\00:39:32.04 he could do that over a chair, 00:39:32.07\00:39:33.44 over a table by just simply putting his hands on the-- 00:39:33.47\00:39:36.34 Put your hands on the each side 00:39:36.37\00:39:37.44 and you have 45 seconds to do that. 00:39:37.47\00:39:39.12 So, yeah, find a chair as quickly as possibly. 00:39:39.15\00:39:41.30 Saving lives. Saving lives. 00:39:41.33\00:39:42.39 So you would do that to yourself. 00:39:42.42\00:39:44.03 You put your-- 00:39:44.06\00:39:45.09 Yeah, if there's no one around that's, 00:39:45.12\00:39:46.44 that's what you're supposed to do, 00:39:46.47\00:39:47.63 is find something that you can use. 00:39:47.66\00:39:48.84 The baby has handed to me chocking an so immediately 00:39:48.87\00:39:52.23 it's got something in its throat, 00:39:52.26\00:39:54.39 the mother tells me. 00:39:54.42\00:39:55.55 So immediately I'm gonna take the child infant, 00:39:55.58\00:39:58.46 turn it upside down, put a V over here, 00:39:58.49\00:40:01.04 put it like this and I'm gonna do three quick hits 00:40:01.07\00:40:03.64 just like you were doing there, one, two, three. 00:40:03.67\00:40:07.37 And normally it will come out of the first one 00:40:07.40\00:40:09.55 or I can put the baby on my knee 00:40:09.58\00:40:11.02 and do the same thing. 00:40:11.05\00:40:12.08 It's gonna come out. 00:40:12.11\00:40:13.68 You never on an infant want to stick your finger down 00:40:13.71\00:40:15.84 his throat because it will lodge it down further, 00:40:15.87\00:40:17.55 that's only for adults. 00:40:17.58\00:40:19.04 But anyway that gives you just a few simple things 00:40:19.07\00:40:21.47 that to our viewing audience. 00:40:21.50\00:40:23.47 These techniques can save a lot of lives quickly 00:40:23.50\00:40:27.58 way before-- you see if you call 911 00:40:27.61\00:40:30.56 or you call the ambulance come, they would already be dead. 00:40:30.59\00:40:32.86 Yeah. Yeah. 00:40:32.89\00:40:33.94 It's amazing that some of-- so many of things 00:40:33.97\00:40:36.13 that you would think are intuitive 00:40:36.16\00:40:37.83 to do are the precise 00:40:37.86\00:40:39.76 wrong thing that you shouldn't do. 00:40:39.79\00:40:41.72 Yeah, that's correct. Yeah, yeah, incredible. 00:40:41.75\00:40:43.95 So here we're talking about 00:40:43.98\00:40:45.57 all these great training techniques and ideas. 00:40:45.60\00:40:48.16 Doing a train the trainer with other youth around 00:40:48.19\00:40:50.43 the world, master guides, but now we want 00:40:50.46\00:40:54.37 to maybe shift gears for just a moment. 00:40:54.40\00:40:56.53 How have they applied this to training other schools 00:40:56.56\00:40:59.91 so that, when they are training other youth, 00:40:59.94\00:41:02.13 they are training churches now to reach out to their 00:41:02.16\00:41:05.09 communities, we call that newest concept working 00:41:05.12\00:41:08.17 with a Southern Union of Seventh-day Adventist. 00:41:08.20\00:41:11.22 Jim Ingersoll is a very special individual 00:41:11.25\00:41:13.53 that has deployed groups with school groups with us 00:41:13.56\00:41:15.98 for many, many years. 00:41:16.01\00:41:17.04 And so he came up with a new title called to serve. 00:41:17.07\00:41:21.04 See that's a biblical going two by two. 00:41:21.07\00:41:22.82 Yes. 00:41:22.85\00:41:23.88 And so this is a title now that has taken out 00:41:23.91\00:41:26.29 a lot of momentum. 00:41:26.32\00:41:27.66 Training our church leaders and youth to be able to say, 00:41:27.69\00:41:32.02 you know, if we hold something called a block party. 00:41:32.05\00:41:35.20 We can be able to invite the community and now the youth 00:41:35.23\00:41:38.11 are dividing up into stations like 14 stations. 00:41:38.14\00:41:41.55 The community is rotating, learning things 00:41:41.58\00:41:43.76 that they really want to know. 00:41:43.79\00:41:45.60 This is a great source of evangelism 00:41:45.63\00:41:48.06 because the youth are involved, 00:41:48.09\00:41:49.82 but they are training the community now 00:41:49.85\00:41:52.22 and the church becomes alive because they are saying, 00:41:52.25\00:41:54.48 wow, you mean I can be used? 00:41:54.51\00:41:56.10 So you get youth training church members, 00:41:56.13\00:41:58.36 church members training the community. 00:41:58.39\00:42:00.64 We're gonna show you just a few quick pictures of our 00:42:00.67\00:42:03.43 last two serve conference and training 00:42:03.46\00:42:05.86 that we held in Orlando. 00:42:05.89\00:42:07.67 And some of these pictures, that's a flier we use, 00:42:07.70\00:42:10.30 it went out through the area of greater Orlando, 00:42:10.33\00:42:14.45 three different Adventist Churches were used 00:42:14.48\00:42:17.08 to reach out to their communities. 00:42:17.11\00:42:18.66 The next one shows basically the group, 00:42:18.69\00:42:21.45 the mayor is there, you had Adventist community 00:42:21.48\00:42:24.16 service director, Florida Conference, 00:42:24.19\00:42:26.55 Conrad Duncan there. 00:42:26.58\00:42:27.78 Many other leaders, Jim is on the far right, 00:42:27.81\00:42:29.88 the one I mentioned in the green shirt. 00:42:29.91\00:42:31.33 So here's your community leaders becoming involved 00:42:31.36\00:42:34.25 in the training and then realizing how they can help 00:42:34.28\00:42:37.30 their community. 00:42:37.33\00:42:38.65 So there's some of the youth representing around 00:42:38.68\00:42:40.71 the southeastern part of the United States. 00:42:40.74\00:42:42.75 And I think we've got another picture showing-- 00:42:42.78\00:42:46.51 basically here's one of our box trucks taking thousands 00:42:46.54\00:42:50.47 of dollars of free donated supplies, 00:42:50.50\00:42:52.87 dropping them off to the various churches 00:42:52.90\00:42:54.56 in the block pretty soon that they can distribute 00:42:54.59\00:42:57.17 these free items to the community. 00:42:57.20\00:42:58.83 All of these different components are a tremendous 00:42:58.86\00:43:01.59 way to meet the needs of your community, 00:43:01.62\00:43:03.97 training your church so that truly they can be affective. 00:43:04.00\00:43:07.95 This picture shows one of the stations, great one, 00:43:07.98\00:43:10.57 that we have a lot of fun in doing face painting, 00:43:10.60\00:43:12.43 children love it. 00:43:12.46\00:43:13.73 They had youth to a great job training. 00:43:13.76\00:43:15.93 And now I want to end this on a very interesting note. 00:43:15.96\00:43:20.12 You might ask evangelism. What does this do? 00:43:20.15\00:43:24.75 We've heard from a number of Heritage students talking 00:43:24.78\00:43:27.38 about how when they are given the opportunity 00:43:27.41\00:43:30.11 to train others, they grow spiritually 00:43:30.14\00:43:32.55 and the leadership skills that last picture you saw 00:43:32.58\00:43:35.26 was taken just a couple of weeks ago 00:43:35.29\00:43:37.13 in Mexico as I mention, 00:43:37.16\00:43:38.75 as I was training 400 master guides 00:43:38.78\00:43:41.62 from around the country. 00:43:41.65\00:43:42.84 So I made the appeal at the worship hour 00:43:42.87\00:43:45.57 and I said you have been learning these things-- 00:43:45.60\00:43:49.49 in another words, God is calling me to serve. 00:43:49.52\00:43:52.21 And I said now, before you can train others 00:43:52.24\00:43:55.91 God is calling for you to make a commitment 00:43:55.94\00:43:58.14 to give your heart to Jesus Christ 00:43:58.17\00:44:00.13 because God is calling you 00:44:00.16\00:44:01.88 and now He wants to empower you. 00:44:01.91\00:44:04.74 And so to become empower miraculously 00:44:04.77\00:44:08.86 for all of who have not given your hearts to Jesus Christ 00:44:08.89\00:44:11.42 or maybe want to make a recommitment. 00:44:11.45\00:44:13.22 We had a tremendous baptism there after that worship hour. 00:44:13.25\00:44:16.92 So the good news is, we want our viewers to know is that 00:44:16.95\00:44:20.64 God is moving around the world. 00:44:20.67\00:44:22.76 God is moving because you know, 00:44:22.79\00:44:24.77 He has called us to train over 30 countries 00:44:24.80\00:44:28.39 in the past three years 00:44:28.42\00:44:29.71 and so there's a tremendous desire 00:44:29.74\00:44:32.53 to learn more and more, 00:44:32.56\00:44:33.87 how we can serve God effectively 00:44:33.90\00:44:36.07 through time, telling and treasure. 00:44:36.10\00:44:38.85 And ultimately commit our hearts to Jesus Christ 00:44:38.88\00:44:42.06 and through baptism now we're making that ongoing 00:44:42.09\00:44:45.31 commitment and showing others how we can live for Christ. 00:44:45.34\00:44:49.53 It occurs me, one that this is a very necessary thing, 00:44:49.56\00:44:53.54 but two, it is de facto evangelism, 00:44:53.57\00:44:57.99 in that it brings a person in contact with a Christian 00:44:58.02\00:45:01.46 caregiver who shows how important they are. 00:45:01.49\00:45:04.21 Rebecca, I want to ask you, what are you plan and doing 00:45:04.24\00:45:07.31 for your vocation for life, do you know? 00:45:07.34\00:45:09.50 Well, I want to study premed. 00:45:09.53\00:45:10.97 I want to become a medical missionary. 00:45:11.00\00:45:13.07 So, yeah, I have been wanting to do that 00:45:13.10\00:45:15.57 for a while now and I think maybe God is leading me. 00:45:15.60\00:45:17.92 Yeah, yeah. 00:45:17.95\00:45:18.98 Has that vision got little clearer as you've involved 00:45:19.01\00:45:21.72 yourself in medical or at least paramedical activity? 00:45:21.75\00:45:24.92 Yes, actually I have been doing-- like I've been 00:45:24.95\00:45:28.70 CPR certified and things like that and so it just giving 00:45:28.73\00:45:31.21 me ideas of you know, how this works. 00:45:31.24\00:45:34.21 And I'm just really interested in the medical field 00:45:34.24\00:45:37.07 and I think I really want to serve God. 00:45:37.10\00:45:40.03 Yeah, praise God. Derek, same question. 00:45:40.06\00:45:41.77 Do you know what you're gonna do? 00:45:41.80\00:45:42.84 Yeah, I'm also in healthcare, 00:45:42.87\00:45:44.26 but more specifically some form of dentistry. 00:45:44.29\00:45:46.46 My dad's a dentist and I have been able to see him 00:45:46.49\00:45:48.88 do some like short term mission work in different countries 00:45:48.91\00:45:51.58 like Philippines and in Mexico. 00:45:51.61\00:45:53.98 And yeah, that's just been really appealing to me to do 00:45:54.01\00:45:57.11 some form of dentistry because I feel that, 00:45:57.14\00:45:58.81 that's not only like a good job to have here, 00:45:58.84\00:46:01.76 but also like you can use it in other countries 00:46:01.79\00:46:03.88 all over the world. 00:46:03.91\00:46:06.09 Here comes your high concept question now. 00:46:06.12\00:46:09.01 As you look at what this does and the response 00:46:09.04\00:46:12.36 that you have gotten from the people that you serve, 00:46:12.39\00:46:14.13 that you taught, that you trained. 00:46:14.16\00:46:15.99 Can you see how this is 00:46:16.02\00:46:18.42 and I use the term almost a pain 00:46:18.45\00:46:20.49 free way to introduce somebody to Christ? 00:46:20.52\00:46:23.13 Surely it's less traumatic or dramatic 00:46:23.16\00:46:26.39 than sort of head right into a Bible study 00:46:26.42\00:46:29.01 but you developed a helping caring relationship. 00:46:29.04\00:46:32.20 Has that occurred to you that it's a really nice, 00:46:32.23\00:46:34.78 easy way to introduce to someone to the love of Christ? 00:46:34.81\00:46:38.94 Well, I think it's a great way to introduce someone to 00:46:38.97\00:46:43.30 the love of Christ because like you're helping them 00:46:43.33\00:46:47.21 with their needs before you're meeting 00:46:47.24\00:46:49.51 their spiritual needs. 00:46:49.54\00:46:50.57 So you're meeting them where they are first. 00:46:50.60\00:46:52.87 You know, you are helping them with that 00:46:52.90\00:46:54.28 and so you develop a relationship with them 00:46:54.31\00:46:56.84 and I think that's really crucial 00:46:56.87\00:46:58.35 before you even talked to them about God, 00:46:58.38\00:47:01.08 and His love you're showing that to them first. 00:47:01.11\00:47:03.61 Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, Derek? 00:47:03.64\00:47:05.70 And people in the midst of a disaster 00:47:05.73\00:47:08.30 are often at their lowest point in their life. 00:47:08.33\00:47:10.73 So they are looking for something more. 00:47:10.76\00:47:12.21 They are really open to, you know, 00:47:12.24\00:47:13.73 whatever you have for them 00:47:13.76\00:47:14.87 to fill everything they have lost. 00:47:14.90\00:47:16.75 So it's like a great opportunity to be able to 00:47:16.78\00:47:18.87 witness to them because they are looking for that. 00:47:18.90\00:47:20.98 Yeah, great. 00:47:21.01\00:47:22.27 I was trying to actually get through one whole program 00:47:22.30\00:47:24.22 without going to "Ministry of Healing" page 143. 00:47:24.25\00:47:27.66 You know Christ method alone. 00:47:27.69\00:47:29.48 But it is so obvious that this is, 00:47:29.51\00:47:31.10 this is an opening way. 00:47:31.13\00:47:32.18 That's right. 00:47:32.21\00:47:33.24 Because the barriers are down as Derek has just 00:47:33.27\00:47:35.35 stated very well that need is there 00:47:35.38\00:47:37.36 and you're meeting that need. 00:47:37.39\00:47:38.50 And it's very hard to say no to somebody who's down 00:47:38.53\00:47:40.69 on their knees meeting their needs. 00:47:40.72\00:47:41.95 So Derek has used the training in psychological 00:47:41.98\00:47:43.94 first-aid crisis care, emotional care. 00:47:43.97\00:47:45.90 So Derek, real quick where you're hurting the most? 00:47:45.93\00:47:49.04 I've asked him to voice triage identify to me, 00:47:49.07\00:47:52.09 where you're hurting the most? 00:47:52.12\00:47:53.16 In the night say, where ever I'm hurting like, 00:47:53.19\00:47:54.69 my legs hurt or something. 00:47:54.72\00:47:55.94 So then you deal with the medical need. 00:47:55.97\00:47:57.89 Derek, do you like blessings? Yeah, I do. 00:47:57.92\00:48:00.80 Thousands of people I have that question when they are 00:48:00.83\00:48:02.81 hurting no one is yet to admit. 00:48:02.84\00:48:04.23 We all like blessings. Yeah. 00:48:04.26\00:48:05.49 So now you're asking permission, next step. 00:48:05.52\00:48:08.22 Derek, you want to keep using their name. 00:48:08.25\00:48:10.67 Could I pray a prayer of blessing with you right now? 00:48:10.70\00:48:14.95 Of course. 00:48:14.98\00:48:16.02 Who doesn't love blessings?
