Amen. 00:03:54.37\00:03:57.28 Well, at this time we're gonna read a scripture 00:03:57.31\00:04:00.06 and that is powerful. 00:04:00.09\00:04:01.88 And unfortunately we do not have time to talk about 00:04:01.91\00:04:04.75 during this whole hour because it could several hours 00:04:04.78\00:04:06.85 to really understand this scripture. 00:04:06.88\00:04:09.05 Well, this is found in Matthew Chapter 28 00:04:09.08\00:04:12.05 and I'm going to read it to your hearing 00:04:12.08\00:04:14.95 and these are the words. 00:04:14.98\00:04:19.13 Matthew 28:19-20. 00:04:19.16\00:04:20.82 "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, 00:04:20.85\00:04:24.64 baptizing them in the name of the Father, 00:04:24.67\00:04:27.98 and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. 00:04:28.01\00:04:30.73 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever 00:04:30.76\00:04:34.54 I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, 00:04:34.57\00:04:38.74 even unto the end of the world." 00:04:38.77\00:04:42.23 And the verse ends with "Amen" and I also say amen. 00:04:42.26\00:04:46.66 So this is a powerful scripture and I would like to ask, 00:04:46.69\00:04:50.03 Brother Neil, do you have any thoughts 00:04:50.06\00:04:52.42 you would like to share about the scripture? 00:04:52.45\00:04:54.94 It gave me more meaning once I actually moved to Taiwan 00:04:54.97\00:04:58.93 and started working with the mission there. 00:04:58.96\00:05:02.17 It's something that we hear in Sabbath school 00:05:02.20\00:05:04.64 and in church if you go 00:05:04.67\00:05:05.77 to one of our Seventh-day Adventist schools. 00:05:05.80\00:05:09.22 And now I can actually understand 00:05:09.25\00:05:11.58 the importance of going out there 00:05:11.61\00:05:13.97 and actually spreading the word. 00:05:14.00\00:05:16.21 If we just sit at home and wait 00:05:16.24\00:05:18.68 for someone else to do all the work, 00:05:18.71\00:05:21.01 no matter what our jobs happen to be, 00:05:21.04\00:05:23.48 then we're going to be on this planet this much longer 00:05:23.51\00:05:27.52 because the Lord wants us to do our part, 00:05:27.55\00:05:31.43 to share His word with them and to give people 00:05:31.46\00:05:34.25 who don't have hope, the true hope. 00:05:34.28\00:05:37.77 Amen. Wonderful. 00:05:37.80\00:05:38.94 Thank you very much. I appreciate that. 00:05:38.97\00:05:41.06 And this is a message for the followers of Christ 00:05:41.09\00:05:45.64 and He says to you as well to those of you listening, 00:05:45.67\00:05:49.01 "Go ye into all the world and there are many ways 00:05:49.04\00:05:51.79 in which you can do that 00:05:51.82\00:05:52.89 and the Lord will show you how." 00:05:52.92\00:05:55.36 Our part is to say, here I am Lord use me. 00:05:55.39\00:05:58.78 And it's marvelous the way the Lord uses everyone 00:05:58.81\00:06:01.96 that puts himself or herself in His hands. 00:06:01.99\00:06:06.35 Mighty things and wonderful things can happen 00:06:06.38\00:06:08.70 and it's just a circle of blessing 00:06:08.73\00:06:10.33 because as you seek to bless others, you are also blessed. 00:06:10.36\00:06:13.91 And I'm sure you have some things 00:06:13.94\00:06:16.02 you could share about that. 00:06:16.05\00:06:17.97 I do and it's also one of the lessons 00:06:18.00\00:06:19.59 that we try to teach all of our kids. 00:06:19.62\00:06:21.77 Excellent. Excellent. 00:06:21.80\00:06:23.00 Well, we're gonna find out 00:06:23.03\00:06:24.10 a little bit more about Neil Hawkins and the Taiwan 00:06:24.13\00:06:29.61 Adventist International School in a moment. 00:06:29.64\00:06:32.06 But we like to share with you now some music 00:06:32.09\00:06:34.99 that we would like to encourage you to listen 00:06:35.02\00:06:37.98 to considering God's love for you 00:06:38.01\00:06:40.83 and this is by Johann Sentana 00:06:40.86\00:06:44.22 and the name is "Abide With Me." 00:06:44.25\00:06:47.22 Amen. Praise the Lord. 00:12:15.10\00:12:16.25 That was very pleasant and spiritual and we thank you. 00:12:16.28\00:12:20.21 We thank Johann Sentana for that interpretation. 00:12:20.24\00:12:23.73 Praise the Lord. 00:12:23.76\00:12:25.49 We'd like to now get to know our guest Neil Hawkins 00:12:25.52\00:12:30.01 and first question I like to ask is, 00:12:30.04\00:12:32.49 were you raised in a Christian home? 00:12:32.52\00:12:34.85 I was. 00:12:34.88\00:12:35.91 I was raised in a Seventh-day Adventist home 00:12:35.94\00:12:38.22 and for most of my high school and elementary years 00:12:38.25\00:12:41.75 went to Seventh-day Adventist schools. 00:12:41.78\00:12:44.58 And it was for university that I went out of the system 00:12:44.61\00:12:48.62 and went to a secular school. 00:12:48.65\00:12:50.48 All right. Very good. 00:12:50.51\00:12:51.99 So there, one as, one grows in life, 00:12:52.02\00:12:58.13 one has to make decisions. 00:12:58.16\00:12:59.86 And I'm curious how did you 00:12:59.89\00:13:01.72 as an individual choose to be baptized? 00:13:01.75\00:13:06.10 Choose to give your life to Jesus Christ? 00:13:06.13\00:13:08.90 The first time, when I was actually baptized, 00:13:08.93\00:13:11.11 I actually went through the system. 00:13:11.14\00:13:12.87 I was baptized at age 12. 00:13:12.90\00:13:15.16 I wasn't forced into it, I chose to do so. 00:13:15.19\00:13:17.90 You went through series of studies and made a decision? 00:13:17.93\00:13:21.36 Made that decision and also wanted to understand 00:13:21.39\00:13:24.84 a little bit more about exactly why am I doing this? 00:13:24.87\00:13:28.14 What does this mean? 00:13:28.17\00:13:29.39 But to the degree that perhaps a 12 year old can. 00:13:29.42\00:13:33.27 Later in life, in my high school years 00:13:33.30\00:13:37.12 things were becoming a little bit more in questioned in mind. 00:13:37.15\00:13:42.06 Is this really what I want? 00:13:42.09\00:13:44.49 Is this the church that I belong to, 00:13:44.52\00:13:47.92 that I really think follows the biblical principles? 00:13:47.95\00:13:51.85 And so I had to do a little bit 00:13:51.88\00:13:53.23 of self exploring or exploring God. 00:13:53.26\00:13:56.17 I never left God, but I would say, 00:13:56.20\00:13:58.76 I left the church for a little while. 00:13:58.79\00:14:01.25 And one of the things 00:14:01.28\00:14:03.58 that I had always enjoyed was building things, 00:14:03.61\00:14:06.91 but not, not construction, I would like to make things 00:14:06.94\00:14:10.72 that people would remember and enjoy. 00:14:10.75\00:14:12.73 That actually started at my time at Monterey Bay Academy. 00:14:12.76\00:14:15.79 I had put on a couple of productions 00:14:15.82\00:14:18.76 for our talent show and really got a taste for that. 00:14:18.79\00:14:22.12 And so, I actually even thought 00:14:22.15\00:14:24.14 I wanted to get into acting until I realized 00:14:24.17\00:14:26.37 that I'm actually a terrible actor. 00:14:26.40\00:14:28.81 Did someone tell you that or you came-- 00:14:28.84\00:14:30.60 You saw yourself and say, ah, that's not gonna work out? 00:14:30.63\00:14:32.41 Yeah. 00:14:32.44\00:14:33.48 I'm gonna with, I did saw myself 00:14:33.51\00:14:35.30 and I've always been a hard critic of myself. 00:14:35.33\00:14:39.34 But I still enjoyed making things, 00:14:39.37\00:14:41.55 putting the production together 00:14:41.58\00:14:42.86 and so I wanted to get into producing and directing. 00:14:42.89\00:14:46.66 And so I went to USC which is a school 00:14:46.69\00:14:49.33 that's very strong in that area, 00:14:49.36\00:14:51.20 but I also wanted a real degree, 00:14:51.23\00:14:54.16 sorry Brian and I also went 00:14:54.19\00:14:57.99 into the business program there. 00:14:58.02\00:15:00.45 Learned many things, really enjoyed my time 00:15:00.48\00:15:03.89 but there was still something tugging at me. 00:15:03.92\00:15:07.76 There is still something a little 00:15:07.79\00:15:09.35 that I wasn't quite getting. 00:15:09.38\00:15:11.44 I put that behind me, 00:15:11.47\00:15:12.78 I kind of pushed that voice to the back a little bit 00:15:12.81\00:15:15.56 and I got into Hollywood. 00:15:15.59\00:15:17.89 I worked in production, television and film production. 00:15:17.92\00:15:22.26 By the end of my Hollywood career as it were, 00:15:22.29\00:15:25.01 I was in the agency world where you actually put writers 00:15:25.04\00:15:29.80 and directors together, studios and actors and so forth, 00:15:29.83\00:15:32.88 really building the foundation, 00:15:32.91\00:15:35.19 but it was not satisfying whatsoever. 00:15:35.22\00:15:38.29 What I learned later is that my mother 00:15:38.32\00:15:41.06 was constantly praying for me, when-- 00:15:41.09\00:15:42.65 Praise the Lord. 00:15:42.68\00:15:43.77 Whether she knows it or not, 00:15:43.80\00:15:45.02 she has the gift of intercessory prayer. 00:15:45.05\00:15:48.04 And so her never giving up on me in that way 00:15:48.07\00:15:51.10 and I know my father prayed for me too. 00:15:51.13\00:15:54.11 I, God was always allowed to stay with me 00:15:54.14\00:15:57.56 and always remind me, I'm here, I have something for you. 00:15:57.59\00:16:00.55 I'm here, I have something for you. 00:16:00.58\00:16:02.31 So you can say that while you were not attending church 00:16:02.34\00:16:07.11 and perhaps not even reading your Bible-- 00:16:07.14\00:16:10.29 Did you prayed during that period of time, 00:16:10.32\00:16:12.21 that you would say, you were not really 00:16:12.24\00:16:14.38 following the Lord on a daily day-to-day basis? 00:16:14.41\00:16:17.82 I was praying not as, often as, either one of us would like. 00:16:17.85\00:16:22.41 Okay. 00:16:22.44\00:16:23.47 But there was still and I would always remember 00:16:23.50\00:16:27.03 what I had learned in Sabbath school, in my Bible classes, 00:16:27.06\00:16:31.13 but also what my parents had taught me 00:16:31.16\00:16:33.43 what they had raised me with. 00:16:33.46\00:16:35.40 And I could see that my life was in congruent 00:16:35.43\00:16:39.44 with what God had in store for me 00:16:39.47\00:16:41.96 and what God wants for all of us. 00:16:41.99\00:16:45.85 So it got to the point when I was at the agency 00:16:45.88\00:16:49.47 and I would just think if I had all the money in the world, 00:16:49.50\00:16:54.46 what would I do? Would I stay here? 00:16:54.49\00:16:57.81 And the fact of the matter was, the answer was no. 00:16:57.84\00:17:01.65 I actually wanted something else. 00:17:01.68\00:17:03.70 I wanted something 00:17:03.73\00:17:04.76 where I was going to benefit other people. 00:17:04.79\00:17:06.88 Okay. 00:17:06.91\00:17:07.95 Now I enjoyed production, people are happy, 00:17:07.98\00:17:09.94 but that's fleeting it's a moment. 00:17:09.97\00:17:11.56 I want something 00:17:11.59\00:17:12.62 where they are going to have a lasting impact. 00:17:12.65\00:17:14.54 Great. 00:17:14.57\00:17:15.65 And so I thought to myself well, 00:17:15.68\00:17:18.58 I need to do something different. 00:17:18.61\00:17:21.20 What had happened was, a friend of mine had told me 00:17:21.23\00:17:23.80 about a job he was at, and he tried to get me. 00:17:23.83\00:17:26.71 He tried to get me to join his company 00:17:26.74\00:17:29.26 and this company overpaid 00:17:29.29\00:17:32.71 and it provided wonderful vacation in time-off packages. 00:17:32.74\00:17:36.96 That's very interesting that you say, 00:17:36.99\00:17:39.10 you said this company overpaid 00:17:39.13\00:17:42.26 because the conclusion most people come to is, 00:17:42.29\00:17:47.13 I'm not getting paid enough. 00:17:47.16\00:17:48.35 No company seems to pay enough, 00:17:48.38\00:17:49.67 but you're saying this one did. 00:17:49.70\00:17:51.37 This one did and I was very seriously going-- 00:17:51.40\00:17:56.24 looking into joining them. 00:17:56.27\00:17:59.68 Every door closed on the way, 00:17:59.71\00:18:02.55 whether it was a certain certification I needed to get. 00:18:02.58\00:18:04.81 The timing of that didn't work with other plans that I had. 00:18:04.84\00:18:09.76 The reason I even wanted to join that group 00:18:09.79\00:18:12.49 was I would work for a month or two months 00:18:12.52\00:18:15.24 and then I'd take a week, two weeks off 00:18:15.27\00:18:17.15 and go on a mission trip somewhere around the world. 00:18:17.18\00:18:19.68 That was your plan? That was the plan. 00:18:19.71\00:18:21.04 Okay. It was my plan. 00:18:21.07\00:18:22.76 God had something a little different. 00:18:22.79\00:18:23.83 So let me see, you were trying to make, 00:18:23.86\00:18:26.64 if I could say it this way, 00:18:26.67\00:18:28.52 something of the world to make money, 00:18:28.55\00:18:31.73 but you wanted to connect yourself with God again 00:18:31.76\00:18:33.96 through mission trips. 00:18:33.99\00:18:35.10 Yes. Interesting. 00:18:35.13\00:18:37.42 And I thought this was the way to do it. 00:18:37.45\00:18:39.49 And I could even self finance these mission trips. 00:18:39.52\00:18:43.83 My brother got wind of what I wanted to do. 00:18:43.86\00:18:46.65 He had just finished four months in South Korea 00:18:46.68\00:18:49.51 and he had said to me well, why-- 00:18:49.54\00:18:51.84 As a missionary? 00:18:51.87\00:18:52.90 As a missionary teaching English 00:18:52.93\00:18:54.43 at the Sanyu Institutions. 00:18:54.46\00:18:57.43 He said, "Why don't you make 00:18:57.46\00:18:59.95 the mission your job instead of doing this job thing." 00:18:59.98\00:19:03.49 Interesting. I said, "No, I want the money." 00:19:03.52\00:19:07.04 Okay. 00:19:07.07\00:19:08.80 We hung up and actually it was about 45 minutes later 00:19:08.83\00:19:11.98 I thought how foolish. 00:19:12.01\00:19:13.35 I can go to Taiwan 00:19:13.38\00:19:15.01 'cause this was something he had found. 00:19:15.04\00:19:16.76 I can do this for a year, that's nothing. 00:19:16.79\00:19:20.08 And then I'll come back and do this after a year. 00:19:20.11\00:19:23.36 Let me ask you this question because I'm curious. 00:19:23.39\00:19:26.50 You were in Hollywood, you were involved 00:19:26.53\00:19:28.54 in perhaps producing TV programs or was it films? 00:19:28.57\00:19:34.42 By the end it was in the film. 00:19:34.45\00:19:36.58 Okay. You were involved in films. 00:19:36.61\00:19:38.46 And during this time did you get married? 00:19:38.49\00:19:41.64 Were you married at all or you were still single? 00:19:41.67\00:19:44.29 No, I was still single at this time. 00:19:44.32\00:19:45.40 Okay. 00:19:45.43\00:19:46.62 I hadn't met the one yet. 00:19:46.65\00:19:48.32 So you have felt the liberty to able to do 00:19:48.35\00:19:52.26 whatever you came to your mind. 00:19:52.29\00:19:54.22 You had-- 00:19:54.25\00:19:55.28 You didn't have a family to say no. 00:19:55.31\00:19:56.95 Let's not do that, let's do this. 00:19:56.98\00:19:58.27 You had-- You could make 00:19:58.30\00:19:59.33 your own decision without affecting others. 00:19:59.36\00:20:01.67 I had no ache inkers weighing me down at this time, right. 00:20:01.70\00:20:05.44 So now as you're considering going on this mission trip 00:20:05.47\00:20:11.30 and the idea of making too much money, 00:20:11.33\00:20:15.15 you had to weigh this two. 00:20:15.18\00:20:16.33 What happened? 00:20:16.36\00:20:17.90 Well, I figured one year away from this. 00:20:17.93\00:20:22.64 Would this opportunity would be fine. 00:20:22.67\00:20:24.55 Okay. 00:20:24.58\00:20:25.61 And now I had made this decision in 45 minutes, 00:20:25.64\00:20:29.51 but I neglected to tell my brother 00:20:29.54\00:20:31.21 that I was on board for the next two, three weeks. 00:20:31.24\00:20:34.02 In my mind I made the decision we're done. 00:20:34.05\00:20:36.81 So we started doing some research, 00:20:36.84\00:20:38.81 finding out which area of Taiwan we would go 00:20:38.84\00:20:42.70 and it was about three, four months later 00:20:42.73\00:20:46.78 all those doors opened up and we came out. 00:20:46.81\00:20:49.50 My brother and I came out and we moved to Central Taiwan. 00:20:49.53\00:20:52.91 Now initially we were there to set up a lifestyle center. 00:20:52.94\00:20:55.97 This was something to show the locals that religion 00:20:56.00\00:20:59.83 or excuse me Christianity 00:20:59.86\00:21:01.68 is not some quaint western philosophy, 00:21:01.71\00:21:05.51 but this is a real lifestyle. 00:21:05.54\00:21:07.90 Well, that ended up not working out 00:21:07.93\00:21:10.92 which was a wonderful blessing, we didn't know at the time 00:21:10.95\00:21:14.19 because he and I ended up working at the school, 00:21:14.22\00:21:16.84 Taiwan Adventist International School 00:21:16.87\00:21:18.88 which was up the hill from the little town 00:21:18.91\00:21:21.35 where we were stationed 00:21:21.38\00:21:22.96 on the campus of Taiwan Adventist College. 00:21:22.99\00:21:26.27 While we were there I did happened to noticed 00:21:26.30\00:21:29.14 there was a very attractive young woman 00:21:29.17\00:21:31.61 who instantly had earned my respect 00:21:31.64\00:21:34.87 because straight out of school she had gone out, 00:21:34.90\00:21:40.30 thousands of miles away from her home, 00:21:40.33\00:21:42.12 away from her comfort zone to teach in a mission school. 00:21:42.15\00:21:46.17 Okay. So-- 00:21:46.20\00:21:47.90 Where was she from? She's from Colorado. 00:21:47.93\00:21:49.97 Oh, she's from Colorado, okay. 00:21:50.00\00:21:52.01 And so I wanted to get to know 00:21:52.04\00:21:54.18 this attractive Seventh-day Adventist woman 00:21:54.21\00:21:57.30 and let's just say the interest wasn't mutual at first. 00:21:57.33\00:22:02.18 Okay. I was, I was still too LA. 00:22:02.21\00:22:05.68 It was a challenge then? 00:22:05.71\00:22:06.78 Oh, yes. 00:22:06.82\00:22:08.06 That's actually always what makes it worth it. 00:22:08.09\00:22:10.49 Okay. 00:22:10.52\00:22:11.58 So I had to, I had to work on convincing her 00:22:11.61\00:22:16.35 to get to know me, but also I had some growing to do. 00:22:16.38\00:22:19.46 There were some changes I needed to go through first 00:22:19.49\00:22:22.11 before I would become the Christian God 00:22:22.14\00:22:24.87 wanted me to be and the man she deserved. 00:22:24.90\00:22:27.57 So at the time did you see yourself 00:22:27.60\00:22:31.40 coming back to church already? 00:22:31.43\00:22:33.09 I mean, you're talking about getting involved 00:22:33.12\00:22:34.86 with the Christian school. 00:22:34.89\00:22:37.08 Were you now attending regularly 00:22:37.11\00:22:39.23 at school, I mean church? 00:22:39.26\00:22:43.06 Actually yes. 00:22:43.09\00:22:44.48 Still an LA I really wanted to find a connection 00:22:44.51\00:22:48.71 in my personal research. 00:22:48.74\00:22:51.21 I found that what the Bible teaches wasn't lined 00:22:51.24\00:22:55.92 with what our church... 00:22:55.95\00:23:00.17 teaches. 00:23:00.20\00:23:01.68 And even there are always going to be people 00:23:01.71\00:23:05.57 in all walks of life who maybe a discouragement 00:23:05.60\00:23:08.15 to one person or another. 00:23:08.18\00:23:10.14 The church itself is working hard 00:23:10.17\00:23:12.74 to be completely in line with Christ. 00:23:12.77\00:23:14.86 Praise the Lord. 00:23:14.89\00:23:15.93 And so I had first come across the Glendale Adventist Church 00:23:15.96\00:23:20.75 when Elizabeth Talbert was there and then I ended up 00:23:20.78\00:23:23.99 moving on to the John Carter Report in Arcadia. 00:23:24.02\00:23:28.08 Okay. 00:23:28.11\00:23:29.65 And just found that 00:23:29.68\00:23:31.24 there is so much more for me to learn. 00:23:31.27\00:23:33.91 I actually had to be reminded, 00:23:33.94\00:23:36.00 you don't need to be perfect to come here. 00:23:36.03\00:23:38.81 It was the acting head pastor of John Carter Report 00:23:38.84\00:23:42.01 who told me, Neil, God wants you now how you are now. 00:23:42.04\00:23:47.91 Let Him worry about changing you. 00:23:47.94\00:23:49.57 Praise the Lord. 00:23:49.60\00:23:51.26 And I became more and more comfortable 00:23:51.29\00:23:55.25 coming back to the Lord not feeling 00:23:55.28\00:23:57.32 so outside of the church as I spent more time reading, 00:23:57.35\00:24:03.08 studying, doing the different research that I needed to, 00:24:03.11\00:24:06.88 and it got to the point where when I did go to Taiwan 00:24:06.91\00:24:10.24 I had no problem interacting 00:24:10.27\00:24:12.96 within the Seventh-day Adventist parameters, 00:24:12.99\00:24:16.53 that was me. 00:24:16.56\00:24:18.53 So just briefly this question comes to mind 00:24:18.56\00:24:20.11 because when somebody, 00:24:20.14\00:24:21.99 when somebody dares to step out of the, 00:24:22.02\00:24:27.17 the atmosphere of God's family 00:24:27.20\00:24:30.49 and steps into the atmosphere of the world, 00:24:30.52\00:24:34.15 the devil tries to take that person 00:24:34.18\00:24:35.99 and plunge them as deep as possible into sin 00:24:36.02\00:24:39.04 and separate that person completely from God. 00:24:39.07\00:24:42.58 Now apparently you didn't have any problem with drugs, 00:24:42.61\00:24:49.67 alcohol or any of those vices that take hold of somebody. 00:24:49.70\00:24:56.82 Did you have any problems with those types of things 00:24:56.85\00:24:58.98 because what comes in the news it's you know, 00:24:59.01\00:25:04.94 drugs in Hollywood 00:25:04.97\00:25:06.40 and this person is an alcoholic, 00:25:06.43\00:25:08.67 that person overdose in drugs, 00:25:08.70\00:25:10.84 in that type of industry you didn't have that problem? 00:25:10.87\00:25:13.42 No. Praise the Lord. 00:25:13.45\00:25:14.95 What's really interesting here is the subterfuge 00:25:14.98\00:25:18.51 with which Satan acted when it came to my life. 00:25:18.54\00:25:23.18 I would do my best-- I wasn't perfect, 00:25:23.21\00:25:25.49 but I'd actually still do my best to keep the Sabbath 00:25:25.52\00:25:28.47 even when I was out. 00:25:28.50\00:25:29.98 I knew that was a right thing to do 00:25:30.01\00:25:32.14 and so I would to a degree I would keep it. 00:25:32.17\00:25:37.62 Well, when we do that Seventh-day Adventist, 00:25:37.65\00:25:40.28 not Christian or now when people keep the Sabbath, 00:25:40.31\00:25:42.95 there is a special protection that the Lord gives you. 00:25:42.98\00:25:46.65 And so there cannot be an over attack where it's drugs 00:25:46.68\00:25:51.41 or other bad decisions that a person may make. 00:25:51.44\00:25:54.60 What happened here is-- Let me explain 00:25:54.63\00:25:58.41 how Hollywood works in this case. 00:25:58.44\00:26:00.19 Okay. 00:26:00.22\00:26:01.25 They are professionals. They are kind to their own. 00:26:01.28\00:26:03.93 They reward hard work, but in order to be successful 00:26:03.96\00:26:08.16 in Hollywood you must give 100% of yourself. 00:26:08.19\00:26:13.17 That's, that's the catch, the hook. 00:26:13.20\00:26:16.07 Okay. 00:26:16.10\00:26:17.13 And if you give a 100% of yourself to Hollywood 00:26:17.16\00:26:21.02 whether it's acting, writing, directing, 00:26:21.05\00:26:23.88 whatever it is, how much is left for God? 00:26:23.91\00:26:26.66 Zero. 00:26:26.69\00:26:27.72 And that's the hook. That was the catch. 00:26:27.75\00:26:31.25 And at no point was I willing to completely give up God. 00:26:31.28\00:26:34.65 I got close unfortunately, but I just didn't get there. 00:26:34.68\00:26:38.00 So I didn't reach the levels of success 00:26:38.03\00:26:40.78 that make a person famous or popular. 00:26:40.81\00:26:44.24 So somehow you maintained connected to the Lord, 00:26:44.27\00:26:49.67 even though it's like you're kind of walking away 00:26:49.70\00:26:52.26 but you maintained some type of connection with the Lord. 00:26:52.29\00:26:54.60 So now you're meeting this girl 00:26:54.63\00:26:58.34 and she's captured your attention, 00:26:58.37\00:27:00.72 her spirituality perhaps as well and that attracted you. 00:27:00.75\00:27:04.26 How did this girl has become part of your life? 00:27:04.29\00:27:11.68 What happened? 00:27:11.71\00:27:14.33 I had to work on, like I said I had to work on myself a bit 00:27:14.36\00:27:18.29 and I had to come up with some creative dates 00:27:18.32\00:27:22.13 to get her to know, the me that God wanted me to be. 00:27:22.16\00:27:25.99 Okay. 00:27:26.02\00:27:27.05 Well, we had similar interests which was travel, 00:27:27.08\00:27:31.64 share ourselves with other people. 00:27:31.67\00:27:33.31 She has a passion for teaching. 00:27:33.34\00:27:35.81 I have a passion for building, so there was a way for God 00:27:35.84\00:27:39.37 to use both of us in this school. 00:27:39.40\00:27:41.84 And just to show off a little bit, 00:27:41.87\00:27:44.44 I want to show you a picture of my family. 00:27:44.47\00:27:46.70 Okay. 00:27:46.73\00:27:47.91 So you can see that eventually I won. 00:27:47.94\00:27:51.49 Wonderful, praise the Lord. 00:27:51.52\00:27:52.78 So we have on the screen, can you describe what we see? 00:27:52.81\00:27:56.27 We have my wife Maria holding our son James 00:27:56.30\00:28:00.32 and this is when we were able to take a Christmas trip 00:28:00.35\00:28:03.27 to my parents place. 00:28:03.30\00:28:04.81 Just this last year which is the first Christmas 00:28:04.84\00:28:08.14 we have been able to come home, 00:28:08.17\00:28:10.20 seven years for her and six years for me. 00:28:10.23\00:28:12.52 Praise the Lord. 00:28:12.55\00:28:13.58 I don't see any problem with the smiles you have on, 00:28:13.61\00:28:15.62 and it seem very natural, praise the Lord. 00:28:15.65\00:28:17.81 So the Lord blessed you with a companion 00:28:17.84\00:28:21.45 that shares the same passion. 00:28:21.48\00:28:23.97 And tell me about the school? 00:28:24.00\00:28:25.87 Taiwan Adventist International School was originally set up 00:28:25.90\00:28:29.71 on the Taiwan Adventist College campus 00:28:29.74\00:28:32.89 for pastor's kids, missionaries' kids, 00:28:32.92\00:28:36.55 people who wanted Adventist education in English 00:28:36.58\00:28:40.31 and that's the key. 00:28:40.34\00:28:41.53 There is another high school on campus 00:28:41.56\00:28:43.32 but it's all taught in Chinese. 00:28:43.35\00:28:44.80 Okay. 00:28:44.83\00:28:45.88 And the demand for the school had actually 00:28:45.91\00:28:49.40 grown outside of our church rather quickly 00:28:49.43\00:28:52.64 because the people of Taiwan are looking for an alternative 00:28:52.67\00:28:56.21 form of education to the rather route system 00:28:56.24\00:28:59.18 that the Taiwanese government offers. 00:28:59.21\00:29:01.60 They want more and more people want their kids to learn, 00:29:01.63\00:29:05.10 how to think, not just what to think. 00:29:05.13\00:29:07.36 Okay. 00:29:07.39\00:29:08.43 So what happens is in that system 00:29:08.46\00:29:10.17 and this is a lot of Asia. 00:29:10.20\00:29:12.53 Here's a lot of information, memorize, 00:29:12.56\00:29:15.73 regurgitated on your fill in the bubble test 00:29:15.76\00:29:18.53 and depending on how well you do there, 00:29:18.56\00:29:20.56 you can go to this level high school 00:29:20.59\00:29:23.71 this level university and so forth. 00:29:23.74\00:29:26.94 But it does nothing to teach them of character building. 00:29:26.97\00:29:30.16 It does nothing to teach them how to think. 00:29:30.19\00:29:32.59 How to use the brains that God has given them. 00:29:32.62\00:29:35.76 And more and more as we interview parents 00:29:35.79\00:29:38.84 and prospective students of people who want to come. 00:29:38.87\00:29:42.25 We're hearing, we want our kid to learn character development. 00:29:42.28\00:29:46.48 More and more people are less concerned about grades 00:29:46.51\00:29:50.10 and they want their kids to grow up to be good people. 00:29:50.13\00:29:52.90 Praise the Lord. 00:29:52.93\00:29:53.99 And so that's exactly what we're able to offer. 00:29:54.02\00:29:56.65 We don't hide the fact that we are a Christian school 00:29:56.68\00:30:00.09 or that we're Seventh-day Adventist. 00:30:00.12\00:30:01.48 We're quite open that we are going 00:30:01.51\00:30:03.21 to share Jesus with them. 00:30:03.24\00:30:04.72 We are going to share God's principles with them. 00:30:04.75\00:30:07.95 We are school that focuses 00:30:07.98\00:30:09.38 on three aspects of Adventist education, mind, body, spirit. 00:30:09.41\00:30:15.08 No one has runaway from us yet. 00:30:15.11\00:30:17.78 Praise the Lord. 00:30:17.81\00:30:18.87 So the Taiwan Adventist International School, 00:30:18.90\00:30:23.26 tell me again the grades that you offer. 00:30:23.29\00:30:27.04 We are junior, high, and high school, 00:30:27.07\00:30:29.04 so 7 through 12th grade. 00:30:29.07\00:30:30.52 7 through 12th grade. 00:30:30.55\00:30:31.80 And it's a full US curriculum. 00:30:31.83\00:30:34.39 We go through Griggs University 00:30:34.42\00:30:37.03 or Griggs Academy International. 00:30:37.06\00:30:39.95 And when they graduate they have an American diploma. 00:30:39.98\00:30:44.14 Okay. 00:30:44.17\00:30:45.20 Most of our students want to study abroad. 00:30:45.23\00:30:47.24 They want to go. 00:30:47.27\00:30:48.32 Most of them want to come to the United States, 00:30:48.35\00:30:50.55 some Canada, some the UK or Europe 00:30:50.58\00:30:53.88 and most of them want to come here 00:30:53.91\00:30:55.38 and so they find it beneficial to actually be taught 00:30:55.41\00:30:58.35 in a western system with western teachers. 00:30:58.38\00:31:01.58 And even though we're an American curriculum, 00:31:01.61\00:31:03.81 we actually have a rather international faculty. 00:31:03.84\00:31:06.75 Excellent. 00:31:06.78\00:31:09.06 Does the school offer some work study as well? 00:31:09.09\00:31:15.71 Because of the amount of English 00:31:15.74\00:31:19.46 that we have to teach 00:31:19.49\00:31:20.55 because our students don't come with perfect levels of English. 00:31:20.58\00:31:23.62 Many of them are actually rather low. 00:31:23.65\00:31:25.87 Most of our time is spent 00:31:25.90\00:31:28.53 either bringing up their English 00:31:28.56\00:31:30.19 through our English language learners programs 00:31:30.22\00:31:32.90 or they have many credits that they have to get completed 00:31:32.93\00:31:37.51 in order to get our degree. 00:31:37.54\00:31:39.23 So the work study program 00:31:39.26\00:31:40.73 is a work in progress right now. 00:31:40.76\00:31:43.61 We're still trying to work that in, 00:31:43.64\00:31:45.27 but at the moment we don't have that opportunity. 00:31:45.30\00:31:47.63 Does the school-- Is the school-- 00:31:47.66\00:31:50.82 Does the school offer a dormitory for people 00:31:50.85\00:31:53.97 that come from far away? 00:31:54.00\00:31:56.15 Or is it set up for just local community? 00:31:56.18\00:32:01.03 Because we're in the middle of Taiwan, although Taiwan 00:32:01.06\00:32:03.71 is only the size of the State of Maryland, 00:32:03.74\00:32:06.00 it's still quite a commute for most of our students. 00:32:06.03\00:32:09.38 So we're a boarding school and we only have a few students 00:32:09.41\00:32:13.07 who are day students, 00:32:13.10\00:32:14.13 most of them are kids of faculty 00:32:14.16\00:32:17.17 or missionaries right around or right on the campus. 00:32:17.20\00:32:20.78 So everyone else boards 00:32:20.81\00:32:22.77 and that actually lends greatly to our program 00:32:22.80\00:32:27.74 because we have a captive audience, 00:32:27.77\00:32:30.98 we have a tremendous program 00:32:31.01\00:32:33.39 where we are actually able to build the characters 00:32:33.42\00:32:36.37 that the parents want for their kids. 00:32:36.40\00:32:38.89 And that's where a great amount of progress is made 00:32:38.92\00:32:41.79 and how we're able to reach or touch the hearts 00:32:41.82\00:32:46.07 and really make an impact on the lives of our students. 00:32:46.10\00:32:49.87 Can you help, describe how this is done? 00:32:49.90\00:32:53.54 Is there a simple way that you can explain? 00:32:53.57\00:32:56.05 What the process is for building 00:32:56.08\00:32:57.66 the characters of the students? 00:32:57.69\00:33:01.67 We work to teach them, 00:33:01.70\00:33:03.73 first of all responsibility for their actions 00:33:03.76\00:33:06.81 and to try to show them that there are affects 00:33:06.84\00:33:10.04 to anything that they may cause. 00:33:10.07\00:33:13.57 A lot of the students-- 00:33:13.60\00:33:15.12 In fact most of the students come from families 00:33:15.15\00:33:17.52 that work so much that there isn't 00:33:17.55\00:33:19.85 a lot of what we'd consider quality time 00:33:19.88\00:33:23.12 between mom and dad and the kids. 00:33:23.15\00:33:24.61 Okay. 00:33:24.64\00:33:25.67 And so we are surrogate parents in that way. 00:33:25.70\00:33:29.41 What we've done this year 00:33:29.44\00:33:30.63 that I'm actually really proud of within our spiritual program 00:33:30.66\00:33:34.61 is implemented a small group 00:33:34.64\00:33:37.14 and with this small groups program, 00:33:37.17\00:33:39.34 every Friday night when the kids are on campus, 00:33:39.37\00:33:42.11 every other weekend they will go home. 00:33:42.14\00:33:44.11 Okay. 00:33:44.14\00:33:45.17 As we have vespers in the faculty homes. 00:33:45.20\00:33:49.30 So we will have the kids broken into different groups 00:33:49.33\00:33:51.99 and that same group will go to a faculty sponsors home 00:33:52.02\00:33:56.58 and we talk about the theme of the week. 00:33:56.61\00:33:59.76 In the beginning it's a lot more organized 00:33:59.79\00:34:02.33 in terms of having the same discussion topics, 00:34:02.36\00:34:06.06 but as the year has gone 00:34:06.09\00:34:07.29 on each groups develops a life of its own. 00:34:07.32\00:34:10.01 Kids have different questions depending 00:34:10.04\00:34:12.08 on where they are in their spiritual walks, 00:34:12.11\00:34:14.35 where they are in age. 00:34:14.38\00:34:16.20 And what I had noticed 00:34:16.23\00:34:18.65 as a result of this small group program, 00:34:18.68\00:34:21.39 is in church when we do get together 00:34:21.42\00:34:24.28 for the divine service, they are much more energized 00:34:24.31\00:34:28.17 and involved than they have ever been in the past. 00:34:28.20\00:34:31.06 Wonderful. Wonderful. 00:34:31.09\00:34:32.47 So they come over Friday night, we have dinner with them, 00:34:32.50\00:34:35.40 then Sabbath school or Sabbath morning 00:34:35.43\00:34:37.60 before Sabbath school they will come 00:34:37.63\00:34:39.44 and at the same house we'll have breakfast together 00:34:39.47\00:34:42.68 and then everyone joins together 00:34:42.71\00:34:43.94 for our divine service. 00:34:43.97\00:34:45.91 Magnificent. 00:34:45.94\00:34:47.17 What is the capacity of the school 00:34:47.20\00:34:48.91 right now as far as students? 00:34:48.94\00:34:51.18 The maximum we can have would be 84, 00:34:51.21\00:34:54.27 if you don't count any day students. 00:34:54.30\00:34:55.72 Okay. 00:34:55.75\00:34:56.80 Instead has to do with dorm space. 00:34:56.83\00:34:59.36 Long term goals, the maximum we would want to be 00:34:59.39\00:35:02.70 is about 120 because we want to keep 00:35:02.73\00:35:05.24 the familial environment that we have. 00:35:05.27\00:35:07.90 Wonderful. Wonderful. 00:35:07.93\00:35:09.52 Now you have, the school has been opened 00:35:09.55\00:35:12.83 for how long and besides what you mentioned, 00:35:12.86\00:35:16.45 are there other goals in mind? 00:35:16.48\00:35:19.99 We've been opened, this is our seventh year 00:35:20.02\00:35:23.12 even though I joined 00:35:23.15\00:35:25.39 at the beginning of the second year myself. 00:35:25.42\00:35:29.12 And our goals are to reach-- 00:35:29.15\00:35:33.28 Well, in this case the children, 00:35:33.31\00:35:35.06 as many children of Taiwan as we can to show them 00:35:35.09\00:35:39.66 that there is such a thing as unconditional love. 00:35:39.69\00:35:42.49 They don't have to get straight A's to be loved. 00:35:42.52\00:35:45.09 They don't have to earn this love. 00:35:45.12\00:35:48.48 They will be disciplined when they do something wrong, 00:35:48.51\00:35:51.66 but it doesn't mean we don't like them anymore, 00:35:51.69\00:35:54.09 it doesn't mean we're ashamed for them 00:35:54.12\00:35:55.95 and this is part of the obstacles 00:35:55.98\00:35:58.29 that we have to face. 00:35:58.32\00:35:59.35 The culture presses upon them 00:35:59.38\00:36:03.02 that they must obey their elders 00:36:03.05\00:36:06.59 or which is a good thing, but without question, 00:36:06.62\00:36:11.18 without knowing why. 00:36:11.21\00:36:12.95 And tradition is more important than an individual's rights, 00:36:12.98\00:36:19.18 desires and things of that nature. 00:36:19.21\00:36:23.65 Not questioning a teacher 00:36:23.68\00:36:26.49 is part of what makes it difficult 00:36:26.52\00:36:28.73 to teach how to think because in order to know 00:36:28.76\00:36:31.69 how to think one must ask questions. 00:36:31.72\00:36:33.62 Yes. 00:36:33.65\00:36:34.68 And so when they come it's a big culture shock 00:36:34.71\00:36:37.43 when we actually ask, what do you think about this? 00:36:37.46\00:36:40.93 If A and B take place, what would C look like? 00:36:40.96\00:36:45.55 Stone silence. 00:36:45.58\00:36:46.84 It takes about six to eight months 00:36:46.87\00:36:49.37 for someone to reorient to our culture. 00:36:49.40\00:36:52.67 Okay. 00:36:52.70\00:36:53.76 And start to become comfortable knowing I can ask questions 00:36:53.79\00:36:58.12 and if I answer a question and I'm wrong, it's okay. 00:36:58.15\00:37:03.31 That's very interesting-- 00:37:03.34\00:37:05.34 What I've just heard is very interesting. 00:37:05.37\00:37:07.16 So it's a learning process for them 00:37:07.19\00:37:11.09 and it's a growing process as well. 00:37:11.12\00:37:13.51 Let me ask you. 00:37:13.54\00:37:14.57 You mentioned the word obstacles, 00:37:14.60\00:37:15.63 that was one of the questions I had. 00:37:15.66\00:37:17.95 What are the obstacles or challenges 00:37:17.98\00:37:20.34 the school is facing? 00:37:20.37\00:37:24.63 We have three major obstacles. One is the cultural difference. 00:37:24.66\00:37:30.88 The language barrier is part of what the school is about, 00:37:30.91\00:37:34.80 is to teach them English 00:37:34.83\00:37:36.92 and have them improve their English skills. 00:37:36.95\00:37:40.37 But because of the spiritual program that we have, 00:37:40.40\00:37:43.28 because we are introducing the true character of Christ, 00:37:43.31\00:37:46.86 Satan does not want us there. 00:37:46.89\00:37:48.89 Since the first year he has been working hard 00:37:48.92\00:37:51.03 to shut this school down. 00:37:51.06\00:37:55.15 In Taiwan it's generally a dark country spiritually speaking. 00:37:55.18\00:37:59.59 Okay. 00:37:59.62\00:38:00.65 This is a county whose major religion is Buddhism, 00:38:00.68\00:38:03.17 but in Taiwan Buddhism is an amalgamation of Buddhism, 00:38:03.20\00:38:07.28 Daoism and ancestral worship. 00:38:07.31\00:38:10.49 There is a lot of spiritism there, 00:38:10.52\00:38:12.56 whether people are aware of it or not. 00:38:12.59\00:38:14.05 So the, the type of Buddhism that I see 00:38:14.08\00:38:17.40 there is very different than what maybe portrayed 00:38:17.43\00:38:20.17 in television, movies what not here in the US. 00:38:20.20\00:38:24.06 Let me give you one example. 00:38:24.09\00:38:25.68 I had a student-- When I first went there, 00:38:25.71\00:38:27.50 I was the dean, boys' dean and I had this student Wallace 00:38:27.53\00:38:31.52 who was-- 00:38:31.55\00:38:33.22 he was a high maintenance child. 00:38:33.25\00:38:35.47 He knew how to get under people's skin. 00:38:35.50\00:38:38.18 Everyone has that button that can be pushed 00:38:38.21\00:38:40.51 and he knew how to get to everyone. 00:38:40.54\00:38:44.53 When we did have our church services 00:38:44.56\00:38:46.34 he couldn't stay awake at all. 00:38:46.37\00:38:48.82 It's just like all the energy was sucked out of him. 00:38:48.85\00:38:51.67 I tried to spend some time with him to get 00:38:51.70\00:38:53.35 to know more about him and what I learned 00:38:53.38\00:38:55.86 is he actually had a friend let's call him. 00:38:55.89\00:39:00.08 Now this was a spirit friend. 00:39:00.11\00:39:02.47 And this spirit friend of his, I asked him eventually 00:39:02.50\00:39:04.40 what is his name and he told me, Louie. 00:39:04.43\00:39:07.36 So Louie was the spirit friends name. 00:39:07.39\00:39:09.92 Louie would actually give this boy a lot of energy 00:39:09.95\00:39:13.71 so he could do whatever it was that he wanted to do. 00:39:13.74\00:39:16.68 He was actually very smart kid. 00:39:16.71\00:39:18.82 He was pretty good in sports, 00:39:18.85\00:39:22.32 but when it came time to go to church, 00:39:22.35\00:39:25.57 well, it turns out Louie wasn't allowed in the building 00:39:25.60\00:39:28.48 and so his source of energy was gone. 00:39:28.51\00:39:31.31 There was-- I would talk to him about, 00:39:31.34\00:39:34.12 why it was hard for him to make friends. 00:39:34.15\00:39:35.99 He didn't understand what it was, 00:39:36.02\00:39:37.77 what the problem was. 00:39:37.80\00:39:39.36 His room was completely filthy. 00:39:39.39\00:39:42.07 He was personally or rather dirty individual. 00:39:42.10\00:39:45.07 He would push those buttons 00:39:45.10\00:39:47.60 whether it was teachers or students 00:39:47.63\00:39:49.51 and I asked, why do you do this? 00:39:49.54\00:39:52.11 Well, Louie would tell him to do these things. 00:39:52.14\00:39:55.13 And as a result he didn't have friends. 00:39:55.16\00:39:58.04 Not having friends, 00:39:58.07\00:39:59.32 he would go to Louie who was his friend. 00:39:59.35\00:40:02.07 Louie would also grant him certain things 00:40:02.10\00:40:03.86 that he would use 00:40:03.89\00:40:05.36 in order to try to win the favor of other students. 00:40:05.39\00:40:08.46 He had a limited amount of clairvoyance, 00:40:08.49\00:40:10.23 so if a student lost something 00:40:10.26\00:40:11.87 he could ask Louie, where is it? 00:40:11.90\00:40:13.71 And he would find it right away for them. 00:40:13.74\00:40:16.12 He said that, if someone did upset him, 00:40:16.15\00:40:18.56 he was given an ability to make some face 00:40:18.59\00:40:22.33 and produce some kind of roar that would really startled kids 00:40:22.36\00:40:25.38 and it actually scared a few of them quite a bit. 00:40:25.41\00:40:27.93 Wallace told me he tried to do that to me, 00:40:27.96\00:40:29.79 but it would never work, he couldn't do it. 00:40:29.82\00:40:32.14 I explained it's nothing special about me, 00:40:32.17\00:40:35.33 it's my father has more power than Louie. 00:40:35.36\00:40:38.83 You should really conside 00:40:38.86\00:40:40.85 what we're trying to teach you here. 00:40:40.88\00:40:43.78 At one time the principal at the time 00:40:43.81\00:40:46.53 and I were talking with him trying to counsel Wallace 00:40:46.56\00:40:50.93 and he would use this circular logic of why God was bad, 00:40:50.96\00:40:57.22 why the Bible was not helpful, 00:40:57.25\00:40:59.77 why following these Christian principles 00:40:59.80\00:41:02.40 were not in his best interest. 00:41:02.43\00:41:06.31 At one time he even said this line 00:41:06.34\00:41:08.75 which I thought was a bit concerning. 00:41:08.78\00:41:11.47 We don't want to be saved. 00:41:11.50\00:41:14.09 So he used the word "We." 00:41:14.12\00:41:15.39 He said "We." 00:41:15.42\00:41:16.45 Okay. 00:41:16.48\00:41:17.68 We're calling-- We want to call it, 00:41:17.71\00:41:19.96 call it as it is-- There was a demon working 00:41:19.99\00:41:24.71 through this Louie character that was his friend. 00:41:24.74\00:41:29.52 Definitely. There's no doubt about that. 00:41:29.55\00:41:32.82 Louie was not allowed in my office, 00:41:32.85\00:41:34.50 but he could talk to Wallace through the wall 00:41:34.53\00:41:37.11 and when Jeremy the other former principal 00:41:37.14\00:41:40.63 and I were talking to him, it finally dawned on us, 00:41:40.66\00:41:43.39 we're not talking to Wallace. 00:41:43.42\00:41:44.99 So we had asked him, are we talking-- 00:41:45.02\00:41:46.90 Wallace, is this you? 00:41:46.93\00:41:47.96 Are we talking to you? 00:41:47.99\00:41:49.44 He just remained quiet, 00:41:49.47\00:41:50.92 so we stopped right there and we prayed. 00:41:50.95\00:41:54.18 Let it be just us, just us 'cause we need to talk 00:41:54.21\00:41:57.77 to Wallace no one else. 00:41:57.80\00:41:59.68 Amen. 00:41:59.71\00:42:00.74 And then his entire demeanor, his eyes were different, 00:42:00.77\00:42:06.41 his voice was a little bit different. 00:42:06.44\00:42:08.38 We had our student back. 00:42:08.41\00:42:10.59 All right. Praise the Lord. 00:42:10.62\00:42:12.79 Even then when we wanted to discuss the Bible 00:42:12.82\00:42:15.84 and talk about this with him, he would, 00:42:15.87\00:42:18.42 he couldn't touch the Bible. 00:42:18.45\00:42:19.91 He would describe it as very warm, 00:42:19.94\00:42:21.52 but if he touched it, he himself would be very cold. 00:42:21.55\00:42:24.68 So these kinds of spiritual interactions particularly 00:42:24.71\00:42:28.98 in the beginning were actually a lot more common 00:42:29.01\00:42:31.60 and this is-- These are some of the ways 00:42:31.63\00:42:33.43 that we're being fought. 00:42:33.46\00:42:36.58 I'll just quickly mention a current student of ours 00:42:36.61\00:42:39.70 whose name I'll not mention. 00:42:39.73\00:42:42.14 So to close the story about Louie and Wallace, 00:42:42.17\00:42:46.64 how was God victorious in this? 00:42:46.67\00:42:51.42 Wallace knew that God was more powerful. 00:42:51.45\00:42:57.64 What I'm able to do is I'm able to touch share with people, 00:42:57.67\00:43:01.74 that there is-- There are powers 00:43:01.77\00:43:03.52 and principalities at work. 00:43:03.55\00:43:06.34 One of the things that I share him, 00:43:06.37\00:43:07.63 I am actually very pleased to share with people 00:43:07.66\00:43:09.92 because I want them to be encouraged 00:43:09.95\00:43:11.32 knowing God is physically present with us, 00:43:11.35\00:43:14.03 Christ is present with us, 00:43:14.06\00:43:15.52 it's something that Wallace could see. 00:43:15.55\00:43:16.92 Amen. 00:43:16.95\00:43:17.98 When we were in church, Wallace could see-- 00:43:18.01\00:43:22.59 He described to me beams of light 00:43:22.62\00:43:25.74 with six wings harmonizing with us as we were singing. 00:43:25.77\00:43:29.79 Praise the Lord. 00:43:29.82\00:43:31.93 And this doesn't just happen in Taiwan, 00:43:31.96\00:43:33.83 this is around the world. 00:43:33.86\00:43:34.89 So music is so powerful, 00:43:34.92\00:43:37.52 it is immensely important that people keep music, 00:43:37.55\00:43:40.59 praise and worship music in all of their services. 00:43:40.62\00:43:43.26 The angels are harmonizing with us. 00:43:43.29\00:43:45.51 Amen. 00:43:45.54\00:43:46.66 Before you continue the other story, 00:43:46.69\00:43:48.96 I would like to see if we can put the pictures 00:43:48.99\00:43:51.69 that you came with, you can share those 00:43:51.72\00:43:53.79 and kind of briefly go through them, 00:43:53.82\00:43:55.40 so that-- We get a picture here. 00:43:55.43\00:43:56.80 What we have on screen now? 00:43:56.83\00:43:59.05 This is Longshan Temple in Taipei. 00:43:59.08\00:44:03.04 This is the typical form of worship 00:44:03.07\00:44:05.72 that we would see in Taiwan. 00:44:05.75\00:44:07.90 Incense being burned, what you can't see 00:44:07.93\00:44:10.38 is that they are facing different statues, 00:44:10.41\00:44:13.14 so it's blatant direct idol worship. 00:44:13.17\00:44:16.17 And this one is a statue? 00:44:16.20\00:44:17.39 This one is of a dragon. 00:44:17.42\00:44:20.51 I took this photo because of how happily 00:44:20.54\00:44:24.05 I thought it would describe, who people, 00:44:24.08\00:44:27.57 who are worshiping idols are truly worshiping 00:44:27.60\00:44:30.35 whether they know it nor not. 00:44:30.38\00:44:31.63 Interesting, next one. 00:44:31.66\00:44:33.85 This is a picture of the mountains, 00:44:33.88\00:44:36.41 early morning when I went out for jog of... 00:44:36.44\00:44:38.62 Beautiful. 00:44:38.65\00:44:40.08 Taiwan Adventist College campus, 00:44:40.11\00:44:42.82 and the fog rolling in beautifully 00:44:42.85\00:44:44.94 and this is not Photoshop, 00:44:44.97\00:44:46.23 this is the way the photo was taken. 00:44:46.26\00:44:48.89 Let's go to the next one. 00:44:48.92\00:44:51.06 This is a picture of some of our students. 00:44:51.09\00:44:53.63 We have outreach programs that teach the students 00:44:53.66\00:44:57.45 not only the benefit of taking things for themselves, 00:44:57.48\00:45:01.12 but when you give your time, your energy, 00:45:01.15\00:45:04.75 your blessing both to people you help and yourself. 00:45:04.78\00:45:07.79 Praise the Lord. 00:45:07.82\00:45:08.86 And these are some of the activities. 00:45:08.89\00:45:11.03 We take our kids outside into nature 00:45:11.06\00:45:13.05 because of where we are, 00:45:13.08\00:45:14.73 we have some wonderful nature not only on our campus, 00:45:14.76\00:45:18.29 but also around the campus. 00:45:18.32\00:45:20.37 This is a local swimming hole and we go there, 00:45:20.40\00:45:22.91 at least once a year. 00:45:22.94\00:45:24.44 And the kids don't want to go swimming, 00:45:24.47\00:45:26.01 then they end up going in and just having a great time. 00:45:26.04\00:45:29.54 We have week of prayer every, we have two a year. 00:45:29.57\00:45:32.99 And this is where some of the most violent, 00:45:33.02\00:45:37.08 spiritually speaking attacks come against our school. 00:45:37.11\00:45:40.20 The week before every single week of prayer we have attacks. 00:45:40.23\00:45:45.56 This year we had a government threat to shut down our school. 00:45:45.59\00:45:50.28 Last year we had, someone became very ill 00:45:50.31\00:45:53.25 and he actually had to leave abruptly. 00:45:53.28\00:45:55.85 We had the year before that, 00:45:55.88\00:45:58.15 two years before that a student... 00:45:58.18\00:46:02.09 who had made some poor decisions regarding let's say, 00:46:02.12\00:46:05.50 playing with a Taiwanese version of a Ouija board, 00:46:05.53\00:46:08.38 had actually invited spirits in. 00:46:08.41\00:46:10.76 And these spirits did not leave him alone particularly 00:46:10.79\00:46:13.90 during the week of prayer. 00:46:13.93\00:46:16.02 He had washed some clothes and the only shirt 00:46:16.05\00:46:19.45 that came out smelling like rotten milk 00:46:19.48\00:46:21.63 was the shirt that said, "Jesus Saves" on it. 00:46:21.66\00:46:24.80 He showed me the shirt, I smelled it and it was putrid. 00:46:24.83\00:46:28.50 I was speaking to him trying to comfort him 00:46:28.53\00:46:31.49 and let him know-- Okay, Jesus is more powerful. 00:46:31.52\00:46:34.46 We need to pray, it got to the point 00:46:34.49\00:46:37.15 where I needed to call in our chaplain 00:46:37.18\00:46:39.77 and we spoke to him and he ended up doing much better, 00:46:39.80\00:46:43.97 but this, my point is this is the kind of attack 00:46:44.00\00:46:47.12 that does happen while we're there. 00:46:47.15\00:46:49.93 Well, we definitely want to ask our viewers 00:46:49.96\00:46:51.99 and listeners to pray for this school 00:46:52.02\00:46:55.14 because they are facing day-to-day challenges. 00:46:55.17\00:46:57.38 And praise the Lord, a victory is at hand and we see victory. 00:46:57.41\00:47:02.94 We've already heard some stories 00:47:02.97\00:47:04.07 of the victories they have had. 00:47:04.10\00:47:05.13 I'm sure there are many more. 00:47:05.16\00:47:06.72 But at this time to share, 00:47:06.75\00:47:09.79 you had another story, you wanted to share. 00:47:09.82\00:47:11.40 We have briefly time for another one maybe, 00:47:11.43\00:47:13.52 and then we need to get ready for the address. 00:47:13.55\00:47:16.24 So if you would like to write the address information. 00:47:16.27\00:47:20.41 Why don't we go here first? 00:47:20.44\00:47:21.91 Do you have any needs at the school, teachers...? 00:47:21.94\00:47:28.42 We have two major needs. The first and foremost prayer. 00:47:28.45\00:47:32.67 Please add us to your prayer lists 00:47:32.70\00:47:35.82 and I mean actively pray, don't just say we'll do so. 00:47:35.85\00:47:38.76 We really need this prayer. 00:47:38.79\00:47:40.99 With this government, 00:47:41.02\00:47:43.39 a new government certification that we're going for, 00:47:43.42\00:47:48.33 it allows us to operate more smoothly 00:47:48.36\00:47:50.00 and most importantly teach Adventist principles. 00:47:50.03\00:47:52.97 We can teach Bible class, we can teach creationism, 00:47:53.00\00:47:57.22 and we can continue with the American curriculum. 00:47:57.25\00:47:59.70 So pray for the people who are in charge of that, 00:47:59.73\00:48:02.99 who have the stamp and that the teachers continue to have 00:48:03.02\00:48:07.79 the energy and enthusiasm to do what we're doing 00:48:07.82\00:48:11.43 'cause everyone there works very hard and it is rewarding, 00:48:11.46\00:48:15.29 it's incredibly rewarding. 00:48:15.32\00:48:17.33 And yes, we need teachers. 00:48:17.36\00:48:19.61 I need English language teachers. 00:48:19.64\00:48:21.53 I need high level math teachers, 00:48:21.56\00:48:24.32 science, chemistry, physics 00:48:24.35\00:48:27.42 because we have some missionaries 00:48:27.45\00:48:28.89 who are moving on to the next mission. 00:48:28.92\00:48:30.66 We have some people who are returning home. 00:48:30.69\00:48:33.11 And we have a need to just fill these slots. 00:48:33.14\00:48:37.58 We need an academic director. 00:48:37.61\00:48:39.75 So please I'd like to hear from people 00:48:39.78\00:48:42.92 who are interested in this. 00:48:42.95\00:48:44.92 And I can talk more with them about what life is like there. 00:48:44.95\00:48:49.70 Some of the things that we offered to make life easier. 00:48:49.73\00:48:52.55 I'll just say one thing, sometimes people are afraid 00:48:52.58\00:48:55.80 that mission work means that they have to go into debts 00:48:55.83\00:48:59.57 or that it won't provide for them in that way. 00:48:59.60\00:49:03.07 When I got married we had about $30,000 in debts, 00:49:03.10\00:49:07.92 student loans and so forth, 00:49:07.95\00:49:09.74 completely debt free in 18 months. 00:49:09.77\00:49:11.64 Praise the Lord. Praise the Lord. 00:49:11.67\00:49:13.49 So while you cannot say about the school, 00:49:13.52\00:49:15.90 just you said about the other job 00:49:15.93\00:49:17.21 that they paid too much, the people are benefited 00:49:17.24\00:49:22.53 and that they are not gonna be starving or in great debt. 00:49:22.56\00:49:26.49 They will be well taken care of by both the Lord and by us. 00:49:26.52\00:49:30.77 Praise the Lord. Praise the Lord. 00:49:30.80\00:49:32.22 Well, we have very little time left. 00:49:32.25\00:49:34.31 We want to make sure 00:49:34.34\00:49:35.40 we put the address on the screen very soon. 00:49:35.43\00:49:38.41 So we want to invite you to pray. 00:49:38.44\00:49:40.15 Do you have something brief 00:49:40.18\00:49:41.26 that you'd like to share with us 00:49:41.29\00:49:42.32 before we go to our break? 00:49:42.35\00:49:45.47 We have about two minutes. 00:49:45.50\00:49:47.00 Yes, I want to tell you about 00:49:47.03\00:49:49.09 our mission trip that's coming up. 00:49:49.12\00:49:51.53 We're taking the kids to India in just a couple of weeks. 00:49:51.56\00:49:56.02 Wonderful. 00:49:56.05\00:49:57.09 And this is great because I had asked our spiritual committee 00:49:57.12\00:50:00.27 for two mission trips. 00:50:00.30\00:50:02.25 Excuse me, I had asked them for one mission trip, 00:50:02.28\00:50:04.68 they gave me two. 00:50:04.71\00:50:06.12 And we're headed to India. We had set up a budget. 00:50:06.15\00:50:10.47 I had already told the parents about this, 00:50:10.50\00:50:12.72 collected a certain amount of money, 00:50:12.75\00:50:14.41 then when we got the actual numbers back, 00:50:14.44\00:50:16.83 it was about $13,000 more than 00:50:16.86\00:50:20.70 what we had asked for or collected. 00:50:20.73\00:50:22.42 Praise the Lord. 00:50:22.45\00:50:23.67 No, the budget was more. We were short. 00:50:23.70\00:50:26.01 Oh, you were short? Yeah. 00:50:26.04\00:50:27.79 Okay. Misunderstood. 00:50:27.82\00:50:29.58 So we had prayed about this. 00:50:29.61\00:50:32.83 We had prayer groups in the states going, 00:50:32.86\00:50:34.84 I saw a Facebook post 00:50:34.87\00:50:36.23 by a friend of mine Richard who said, I have a minute. 00:50:36.26\00:50:38.71 You have prayer request, send them my way. 00:50:38.74\00:50:40.86 I said, yes, pray for this. 00:50:40.89\00:50:43.26 Within 19 minutes my friend 00:50:43.29\00:50:46.30 who is organizing this whole event 00:50:46.33\00:50:49.84 got an email that had actually explained, 00:50:49.87\00:50:52.56 our entire problem had been solved. 00:50:52.59\00:50:55.02 Praise the Lord.
