I agree with that. 00:03:01.21\00:03:03.10 Once you are, you are there, right? 00:03:03.13\00:03:05.36 Right. That's it, perpetually. 00:03:05.39\00:03:07.61 When we added John, he talked about, 00:03:07.64\00:03:09.72 well, he really helps, doesn't he? 00:03:09.75\00:03:11.36 So even though he's not out on the road. 00:03:11.39\00:03:13.36 I love it, absolutely, absolutely. 00:03:13.39\00:03:15.82 You know, the amazing thing, Danny, 00:03:15.85\00:03:17.41 in 26 years we had two gentlemen 00:03:17.44\00:03:19.52 that died with us, 00:03:19.55\00:03:20.76 but we've only have one personnel change in 26 years. 00:03:20.79\00:03:24.03 Gentleman retired and John took his place, 00:03:24.06\00:03:26.09 so who could talk about that? 00:03:26.12\00:03:28.10 And one personnel change, wow. 00:03:28.13\00:03:30.37 I know, that is amazing and I love your music. 00:03:30.40\00:03:33.27 I actually found out about The Guardians 00:03:33.30\00:03:35.38 from Lari Goss and Lari Goss, 00:03:35.41\00:03:37.97 our viewers know Lari, they're familiar with him 00:03:38.00\00:03:40.92 and some of the recent projects that we did, 00:03:40.95\00:03:43.33 they're also aware of his passing. 00:03:43.36\00:03:45.45 But Lari used to talk to me about this one group 00:03:45.48\00:03:49.08 and at least once a week, 00:03:49.11\00:03:51.23 "Danny, you got to get The Guardians, 00:03:51.26\00:03:53.04 you just got-- you got to meet these guys, 00:03:53.07\00:03:55.06 you got to hear their music, I've been working with them. 00:03:55.09\00:03:57.40 I absolutely love them." 00:03:57.43\00:03:58.67 And then he would call me a week or two later. 00:03:58.70\00:04:01.01 "Did you call them, yeah?" 00:04:01.04\00:04:02.54 I'd say, well, you didn't even give me their info, Lari. 00:04:02.57\00:04:05.42 "Oh, I didn't. 00:04:05.45\00:04:06.48 Well, I have Carolyn, I'll have Carolyn 00:04:06.51\00:04:08.25 send that to you. 00:04:08.28\00:04:09.64 You got to get them there now, I'm not being pushy. 00:04:09.67\00:04:12.78 You know, I wouldn't do this to you, 00:04:12.81\00:04:14.22 I'm not pushy but you got to meet these guys." 00:04:14.25\00:04:17.07 So honestly Lari's worked 00:04:17.10\00:04:19.48 with incredible musicians and artists 00:04:19.51\00:04:22.34 around the world as you know. 00:04:22.37\00:04:23.47 But I can say this with my hand up, 00:04:23.50\00:04:25.36 he never promoted anybody like he promoted you guys. 00:04:25.39\00:04:28.57 'Cause he said they're genuine. We're humbled. 00:04:28.60\00:04:31.02 And today we hate to say it 00:04:31.05\00:04:32.70 but that's kind of a fleeting commodity, 00:04:32.73\00:04:35.06 even in the industry of gospel music 00:04:35.09\00:04:37.48 and, you know, preachers and, 00:04:37.51\00:04:40.16 you know, I don't want to go and sound negative 00:04:40.23\00:04:42.52 but I'm just saying so when you meet people 00:04:42.55\00:04:44.72 of like spirits that are focused on their mission, 00:04:44.75\00:04:48.42 that's to represent the Lord Jesus Christ 00:04:48.45\00:04:50.85 to share Him in the marketplace. 00:04:50.88\00:04:53.00 Right. 00:04:53.03\00:04:54.24 Then we're like this 00:04:54.70\00:04:56.29 because that's really what we're all about. 00:04:56.32\00:04:58.24 Christians those of us following 00:04:58.27\00:04:59.93 the example of Lord Jesus Christ 00:04:59.96\00:05:01.78 and He said, go ye into all the world. 00:05:01.81\00:05:03.93 So some people preach, some teach, other sing. 00:05:03.96\00:05:06.82 And you guys been doing this a long time. 00:05:06.85\00:05:09.61 I want to talk a little more, 00:05:09.64\00:05:10.67 then we're gonna do maybe three or four songs, 00:05:10.70\00:05:12.43 see how much time we have. 00:05:12.46\00:05:14.04 Thank you. 00:05:14.07\00:05:15.10 But, Dean, I want to get a little bit 00:05:15.13\00:05:16.16 of your background now, 00:05:16.19\00:05:17.22 you know, where are you from, 00:05:17.25\00:05:18.40 what kind-- were you raised in a Christian home? 00:05:18.43\00:05:20.20 Oh, I was raised in a --home, 00:05:20.23\00:05:23.12 very conservative 00:05:23.15\00:05:24.50 and my dad was one of the greatest Christians 00:05:24.53\00:05:27.53 I've ever met in my life. Uh-huh. 00:05:27.56\00:05:29.01 Lived to be almost 98. Is that? Right. 00:05:29.04\00:05:31.31 He married my mom, he was 11 years older than her. 00:05:31.34\00:05:35.18 She lived to be 85 and he outlived her, 00:05:35.21\00:05:37.55 I mean, you never think that. Yeah. 00:05:37.58\00:05:40.15 So I was raised in a good Christian home, 00:05:40.18\00:05:41.54 loved the gospel music 00:05:41.57\00:05:43.14 and then moved to Portsmouth, Ohio, 00:05:43.17\00:05:44.63 in 1965 to sing with The Golden Keys Quartet. 00:05:44.66\00:05:48.61 And fell in love with the music 00:05:48.64\00:05:50.15 and then God has just opened up doors in my life, 00:05:50.18\00:05:53.55 it's unbelievable. 00:05:53.58\00:05:55.15 Have you always had a desire to be a Christian? 00:05:55.18\00:05:58.79 I have a song that John helped me write 00:05:58.82\00:06:01.99 that talked about as a child, I was going down this road, 00:06:02.02\00:06:05.80 I thought, you know, God's tugging on my heart, 00:06:05.83\00:06:07.77 I want to be a Christian, 00:06:07.80\00:06:09.17 but then I thought, well, you know what? 00:06:09.20\00:06:10.29 I need to go out and learn my way a little bit first. 00:06:10.32\00:06:12.94 And then, but He kept tugging. 00:06:12.97\00:06:14.45 Mm-hmm, all right. 00:06:14.48\00:06:15.59 And then I come back. Okay. 00:06:15.62\00:06:17.33 So but that song is just so it's like what about now, 00:06:17.36\00:06:21.42 what about right now, what about here. 00:06:21.45\00:06:24.58 Now you don't have to put this off 00:06:24.61\00:06:26.74 and it's the best life to live anyway. 00:06:26.77\00:06:29.12 Why wouldn't you live this life? 00:06:29.15\00:06:30.24 Absolutely, absolutely, beautiful. 00:06:30.27\00:06:32.79 So what do you do now? What is your work? 00:06:32.82\00:06:36.11 I went down on the state highway patrol 00:06:36.14\00:06:38.24 after The Golden Keys Quartet continued to sing with groups, 00:06:38.27\00:06:41.65 then after that I went down to Goodyear Atomic Corporation, 00:06:41.68\00:06:44.12 I was security director there and Congressman Dingell 00:06:44.15\00:06:47.37 and Senator John Glenn decided 00:06:47.40\00:06:50.25 that the nuclear weapons program in the country 00:06:50.28\00:06:52.33 was not being protected well enough. 00:06:52.36\00:06:55.35 So they set up this program where they want to go out 00:06:55.59\00:06:57.83 and have a performance testing program 00:06:57.86\00:06:59.65 and I just lucked into that program, Danny, 00:07:00.21\00:07:02.50 and started running that program. 00:07:02.53\00:07:03.87 You were blessed into it. Yeah, I was blessed. 00:07:03.90\00:07:04.95 Oh, yes, blessed into it, absolutely. 00:07:04.98\00:07:07.03 I mean, my life was not planned. 00:07:07.06\00:07:08.82 Whatever I did, I did for the system, never for me. 00:07:08.85\00:07:13.01 Whatever it was, 00:07:13.04\00:07:14.18 always displayed honesty, integrity and trust. 00:07:14.21\00:07:16.52 Okay. Never for yourself. 00:07:16.55\00:07:18.47 And so in the last 30 years, 00:07:18.50\00:07:21.03 we've been inspecting nuclear weapons facilities 00:07:21.06\00:07:22.83 and it's all performance based. 00:07:22.86\00:07:24.28 We actually take ex Seal team members, 00:07:24.31\00:07:26.58 special force members went and attack the facility, 00:07:26.61\00:07:28.92 try to steal the special nuclear weapons. 00:07:28.95\00:07:30.52 Oh, really? For the materials, yes. 00:07:30.55\00:07:31.82 You're serious, Dean? Yeah, it's serious stuff. 00:07:31.85\00:07:33.18 You're not like just looking on a camera decide, you know-- 00:07:33.21\00:07:35.69 No, no, no. Don't use your bullets. 00:07:35.72\00:07:37.51 It's all performance based. Really? 00:07:37.54\00:07:39.74 Yeah, it is. It's phenomenal. 00:07:39.77\00:07:41.49 So because I travel so much, 60-70% of my time for 30 years, 00:07:41.52\00:07:45.64 we could only sing on the weekends. 00:07:45.67\00:07:47.47 So then we got a manager in the last 3 years, 00:07:47.50\00:07:50.72 I mean, he's better than me. 00:07:50.75\00:07:52.04 So he's running the program mostly and I could back off 00:07:52.07\00:07:55.58 and so now we're fulltime ministry 00:07:55.61\00:07:58.13 into what my heart wants to do. 00:07:58.16\00:08:00.15 Yeah. What a neat story. 00:08:00.18\00:08:01.44 I hope you've written a book. Did you? 00:14:42.20\00:14:43.74 In 1999 stayed till 2003 00:14:43.77\00:14:46.94 and came off the road to work in my church 00:14:46.97\00:14:49.95 and help build the music program there. 00:14:49.98\00:14:51.48 All right. What kind of church you go to? 00:14:51.51\00:14:53.31 I go to Christ Temple in Huntington, West Virginia. 00:14:53.34\00:14:55.62 Okay. 00:14:55.65\00:14:56.68 It's a nondenominational church 00:14:56.71\00:14:57.82 where my pastor I've known since I was 15. 00:14:57.85\00:15:00.28 Okay. 00:15:00.31\00:15:01.34 Now he was a radio disc jockey 00:15:01.37\00:15:02.72 in his early days in southern gospel music. 00:15:02.75\00:15:05.38 And the Lord called him to preach 00:15:05.41\00:15:07.50 and the next thing, you know, 00:15:07.53\00:15:09.67 he is the pastor of the church that had been 00:15:09.70\00:15:12.49 originally pastored by a man for 40 years almost. 00:15:12.52\00:15:15.90 And that church grew immediately 00:15:15.93\00:15:18.87 under my pastor Nell's leadership 00:15:18.90\00:15:21.97 from about 60-70 people to about 2,500. 00:15:22.00\00:15:26.13 Wow. So God has really blessed. 00:15:26.16\00:15:28.29 Yeah, absolutely. 00:15:28.32\00:15:29.71 And I love it how these guys comment, 00:15:29.74\00:15:31.26 instead of just talking about themselves, 00:15:31.29\00:15:32.76 I ask them about their selves 00:15:32.79\00:15:33.87 and both of them have gone to their churches, 00:15:33.90\00:15:36.14 notice that about how they're grown and all of that. 00:15:36.17\00:15:39.34 And so now your music, your family, 00:15:39.37\00:15:42.55 you said did they all sing, your parents-- 00:15:42.58\00:15:43.98 Well, yes, my grandmother 00:15:44.01\00:15:46.12 and my aunt had a trio with another lady in our church 00:15:46.15\00:15:49.88 when I was growing up. 00:15:49.91\00:15:51.38 And she passed away 00:15:51.41\00:15:52.87 and when she, just before she passed away, 00:15:52.90\00:15:55.37 she said, you need to take John and keep singing. 00:15:55.40\00:15:59.23 And, you know, I was 11 years old 00:15:59.26\00:16:02.14 and but I could hear parts and so we just started that way 00:16:02.17\00:16:06.26 and our church would invite us here and there 00:16:06.29\00:16:08.79 and one thing led to another 00:16:08.82\00:16:10.20 and the Lord just opened doors 00:16:10.23\00:16:11.26 and we kept walking through 00:16:11.29\00:16:13.42 and I mean, I fell in love with the music. 00:16:13.45\00:16:17.00 All right. Now you play instruments? 00:16:17.03\00:16:19.05 I play piano, play keyboards 00:16:19.08\00:16:20.97 and sometimes when we're out live, you know, 00:16:21.00\00:16:23.07 we always try to bring things down to a ministry time 00:16:23.10\00:16:28.13 at least at the end and that is the time 00:16:28.16\00:16:31.92 when it just becomes intimate with the congregation. 00:16:31.95\00:16:34.47 Sure, absolutely. 00:16:34.50\00:16:36.03 Tell me a little bit about-- I know you're a songwriter, 00:16:36.06\00:16:38.27 maybe the rest of you guys write too some 00:16:38.30\00:16:40.39 but I think he's probably your main songwriter. 00:16:40.42\00:16:42.88 He's the writer. 00:16:42.91\00:16:43.96 He's the writer, Neil. This is the guy, right. 00:16:43.99\00:16:45.34 He's the writer, yes. 00:16:45.37\00:16:46.43 I'm always I'm intrigued by the minds of writers, 00:16:46.46\00:16:49.20 you know, where they come from 'cause people, 00:16:49.23\00:16:51.41 I'm not prolific writer like some of you all, 00:16:51.44\00:16:53.36 but I've written songs over the years and people would say, 00:16:53.39\00:16:55.63 where did that come from? 00:16:55.66\00:16:57.20 I know people who've sang for most all their life 00:16:57.23\00:16:59.81 but they say I can't write, 00:16:59.84\00:17:01.02 I don't know how to put that together 00:17:01.05\00:17:03.54 and I don't know how to explain that. 00:17:03.57\00:17:05.96 What happens to you? Where do you-- 00:17:05.99\00:17:08.25 what makes you tick when it comes to writing? 00:17:08.28\00:17:09.91 And people ask me-- 00:17:09.94\00:17:10.97 You'd sit around and get up the morning say, 00:17:11.00\00:17:12.43 I think I'll write a song today. 00:17:12.46\00:17:13.93 I wish it was like that 00:17:13.96\00:17:15.05 and it's not really like that for me. 00:17:15.08\00:17:16.88 People ask me, you know, 00:17:16.91\00:17:17.95 how do you come up with these ideas? 00:17:17.98\00:17:19.16 And I'll say, you know, there's nothing else up there, 00:17:19.19\00:17:21.41 so I pretty much can just concentrate on the songs 00:17:21.44\00:17:25.04 but I'll get something from something 00:17:25.07\00:17:27.40 that my pastor will say in a message. 00:17:27.43\00:17:29.77 I'll hear somebody say something 00:17:29.80\00:17:31.25 just in casual everyday, 00:17:31.28\00:17:33.33 you know, conversation that will strike me 00:17:33.36\00:17:35.77 and I'll, maybe not necessarily 00:17:35.80\00:17:37.55 just the phrase they said 00:17:37.58\00:17:39.01 but it'll turn my mind to something else 00:17:39.04\00:17:40.96 and next thing, you know, 00:17:40.99\00:17:42.54 there's a song that is birth out of just 00:17:42.57\00:17:44.98 some little thing you hear. 00:17:45.01\00:17:46.45 You know, I don't write a lot of Bible story songs, 00:17:46.48\00:17:49.66 you know, so many people are great at rewriting 00:17:49.69\00:17:52.59 the three Hebrew children and I just does 00:17:52.62\00:17:54.75 but I more find myself writing things about everyday life 00:17:54.78\00:17:59.60 and how God works in everyday life 00:17:59.63\00:18:01.41 because that's what we're all living right now 00:18:01.44\00:18:03.74 is everyday life. 00:18:03.77\00:18:04.84 Absolutely. 00:18:04.87\00:18:05.90 And so I see God work so often 00:18:05.93\00:18:07.75 and I just think it's worse to talk it about in a song. 00:18:07.78\00:18:11.70 So do you write the music first or the words 00:18:11.73\00:18:14.29 or do you write them together? 00:18:14.32\00:18:15.51 For me it's almost always together. 00:18:15.54\00:18:17.71 It's very seldom. 00:18:17.80\00:18:19.06 Now Dean and I wrote a song together 00:18:19.09\00:18:20.89 on the new project that he was talking about 00:18:20.92\00:18:24.27 a little bit earlier called what about now, 00:18:24.30\00:18:26.37 and he really had talked about 00:18:26.40\00:18:29.02 what he-- how he felt like the Lord dealt with him, 00:18:29.05\00:18:31.16 you know, growing up 00:18:31.19\00:18:32.78 and the way his mind was working 00:18:32.81\00:18:34.09 and he kind of laid out all of that story 00:18:34.12\00:18:37.35 and started putting, you know, phrases and music together 00:18:37.38\00:18:41.57 with his story and next thing we know we had a song, 00:18:41.60\00:18:45.18 normally always it's music and lyric together. 00:18:45.21\00:18:48.98 Now do your songs in general 00:18:49.01\00:18:51.35 when you're writing them yourself, do they come quickly 00:18:51.38\00:18:53.78 or is it some-- you maybe write a little bit, 00:18:53.81\00:18:55.65 then a week or two later, you come back and month later 00:18:55.68\00:18:58.63 you finish it or how's that? 00:18:58.66\00:18:59.77 I find myself doing it that way most all the time. 00:18:59.80\00:19:02.10 It's very seldom over all the years I've written music 00:19:02.13\00:19:04.98 where I sat down and it was just coming like that for me 00:19:05.01\00:19:08.90 and I was just writing as fast as I could go. 00:19:08.93\00:19:11.49 Now it's a little different when I do co-writes, 00:19:11.52\00:19:14.22 we're pretty much in a room 00:19:14.25\00:19:15.86 for 6 or 7 hours in a day and we come out with a song 00:19:15.89\00:19:18.65 but you don't sit down and just start writing, 00:19:18.68\00:19:20.98 Now, so that'll help you finish it. 00:19:21.01\00:19:22.28 That's right. That's right. 00:19:22.31\00:19:26.00 So do you write for publishing companies? 00:19:26.03\00:19:28.15 Yes, I write for Daywind in Nashville. 00:19:28.18\00:19:29.99 And I've written for just about everybody 00:19:30.67\00:19:33.09 in southern gospel music. 00:19:33.12\00:19:34.24 The Lord has opened a lot of doors 00:19:34.27\00:19:36.06 and almost everybody in southern gospel music 00:19:36.09\00:19:38.49 has recorded a song of mine. 00:19:38.52\00:19:39.57 Oh, that's great. 00:19:39.60\00:19:40.63 And I'm thankful for that. 00:19:40.66\00:19:41.70 Wonderful. 00:19:41.73\00:19:42.76 You ever hear of Rick Shelton down there? 00:19:42.79\00:19:44.31 I am very much acquainted with Rick, 00:19:44.34\00:19:46.60 he's the gentleman who purchase all my songs. 00:19:46.63\00:19:49.25 He's my publisher. 00:19:49.28\00:19:50.33 Okay. Well, he's your buddy then? 00:19:50.36\00:19:51.44 He is my buddy, I love Rick with all my heart. 00:19:51.47\00:19:53.71 Yeah, absolutely. 00:19:53.74\00:19:55.32 Well, he's my nephew as you may have figured that out. 00:19:55.35\00:19:57.44 I finally figured out that. 00:19:57.47\00:19:58.71 But he loves what he's doing. 00:19:58.74\00:20:01.33 A quick story about Rick that you can go back 00:20:01.36\00:20:03.66 and you can tell him I said it. 00:20:03.69\00:20:05.76 But when he was little, he loved music 00:20:06.03\00:20:10.09 but when he was young for some reason 00:20:10.12\00:20:11.79 I didn't think he'd ever carry tune, 00:20:11.82\00:20:13.15 he actually sings pretty well. 00:20:13.18\00:20:14.28 I don't know if you ever heard him, 00:20:14.31\00:20:15.41 but Rick can sing well but he loved gospel music 00:20:15.44\00:20:19.61 so my wife Kay who was later killed in automobile accident 00:20:19.64\00:20:24.55 and my brother Tommy, 00:20:24.58\00:20:26.70 we had a trio called the Shelton trio 00:20:26.73\00:20:28.55 in the late '60s and early '70s and we sang around. 00:20:28.58\00:20:32.58 Rick would go, they were introduce to, 00:20:32.61\00:20:35.25 you know, he was 3 or 4 or 5 years old, 00:20:35.28\00:20:37.50 Shelton trio, he just walk up, serious, 00:20:37.53\00:20:40.90 just made me grab my mike 00:20:40.93\00:20:42.29 and just stand there ready to sing 00:20:42.32\00:20:43.64 and like, do I get to sing? They make me nervous. 00:32:13.55\00:32:17.19 I hated English. 00:32:17.22\00:32:18.72 So anyway 10 years ago 00:32:18.75\00:32:22.35 when I retired from school superintendent 00:32:22.38\00:32:24.92 in public schools in Southern Ohio, 00:32:24.95\00:32:27.48 I went to work for Dean. 00:32:27.51\00:32:29.56 He had a job there that my skills could handle 00:32:29.59\00:32:32.80 and I've been working for him ever since. 00:32:32.83\00:32:35.36 You get him breaking in 00:32:35.39\00:32:36.55 and trying to break into government-- 00:32:36.58\00:32:41.94 so we can do that. 00:32:41.97\00:32:43.27 He's a professional administrator. 00:32:43.30\00:32:45.80 Oh, I see, okay. Yeah. 00:32:45.83\00:32:46.89 So you're just administrating that, 00:32:46.92\00:32:48.49 but knowing all the stuff and doing all the work. 00:32:48.52\00:32:50.42 That's good. 00:32:50.45\00:32:51.48 I think I like your job better. 00:32:51.51\00:32:53.25 Yeah, I do too, feel safer. 00:32:53.28\00:32:55.41 Yeah, it's little feel safer, that job for sure. 00:32:55.44\00:32:58.46 So gospel music is just your family saying? 00:32:58.49\00:33:02.06 My dad had a family group, 00:33:02.09\00:33:03.78 in fact years ago they called it 00:33:03.81\00:33:06.17 the Uhrig Brothers Quintet, 00:33:06.20\00:33:08.07 it was not a quartet, there were five of them. 00:33:08.10\00:33:10.25 Him and his two brothers 00:33:10.28\00:33:11.31 and they had two first cousins that sang. 00:33:11.34\00:33:13.84 And when I was 17 in the summer, 00:33:13.87\00:33:20.07 the baritone decided he wanted to retire, 00:33:20.10\00:33:21.84 start traveling. 00:33:21.87\00:33:23.77 I never really had sung that much in church at all 00:33:23.80\00:33:27.83 other than in choirs but my dad came to me and said, 00:33:27.86\00:33:29.93 hey, why don't you try singing the baritone? 00:33:29.96\00:33:32.09 I could harmonize. 00:33:32.12\00:33:34.39 And I said-- he said just come for a part time 00:33:34.42\00:33:36.42 till I find someone. 00:33:36.45\00:33:38.04 I did that for almost 37 years, 00:33:38.07\00:33:41.19 he was still finding someone to fill the position. 00:33:41.22\00:33:44.13 37 years, okay. 00:33:44.16\00:33:45.90 And then it kind of wound down to where 00:33:45.93\00:33:48.10 we'd lost piano players, 00:33:48.13\00:33:50.61 couldn't find someone like John Rowsey to play the piano. 00:33:50.64\00:33:53.41 And it looked like we were gonna fold up 00:33:53.44\00:33:55.52 and Dean had sung with us 3 years, 00:33:55.55\00:34:00.26 and started what '79 or '78? 00:34:00.29\00:34:02.55 '79, yeah. 00:34:02.58\00:34:03.61 And filled in as tenor for that period of time. 00:34:03.64\00:34:06.12 So we were about ready to fold up 00:34:06.15\00:34:07.56 and we had this great date mission we'd like to go 00:34:07.60\00:34:10.10 and my dad said why don't we call Dean 00:34:10.13\00:34:12.44 and see if he'd fill in with us and we'd get a piano player 00:34:12.47\00:34:15.42 when we go out and do that date. 00:34:15.45\00:34:16.99 And Dean wasn't singing at the time 00:34:17.02\00:34:19.19 and we went, right about 27 years ago? 00:34:19.22\00:34:22.09 Right. 00:34:22.12\00:34:23.15 And we took that date and kind of liked it, 00:34:23.18\00:34:25.98 so let's sing a couple more times. 00:34:26.01\00:34:28.54 And eventually in short pretty time 00:34:28.57\00:34:31.35 we formed this group. 00:34:31.38\00:34:32.47 Mm-hmm. 00:34:32.50\00:34:33.71 Well, I love the fact that you said 00:34:33.74\00:34:35.19 there'd been so few changes 00:34:35.22\00:34:37.00 and couple of deaths and maybe change one time 00:34:37.03\00:34:40.12 that tells you about you guys and your mission, 00:34:40.15\00:34:43.41 it hasn't changed, you haven't-- you know, 00:34:43.44\00:34:45.39 you're still there, you're still doing 00:34:45.42\00:34:46.92 what God's called you to do. 00:34:46.95\00:34:48.45 Dean and I have never had an argument 00:34:48.48\00:34:50.31 in all these years. 00:34:50.34\00:34:51.73 Yeah. Wow, that's amazing. 00:34:51.76\00:34:52.79 What I loved about it when I came with the group was, 00:34:52.82\00:34:55.53 you know, they've been friends for all these years and, 00:34:55.56\00:34:58.56 you know, a lot of times 00:34:58.59\00:34:59.68 when you enter into a situation like that, 00:34:59.71\00:35:02.61 you find out the behind the scenes 00:35:02.64\00:35:04.10 is not really as good as what you see on the exterior. 00:35:04.13\00:35:08.49 But behind the scenes was even better 00:35:08.52\00:35:10.40 than the exterior, 00:35:10.43\00:35:11.46 that was that heart after the Lord and the mission was 00:35:11.49\00:35:14.62 how can we reach somebody with this gospel message 00:35:14.65\00:35:17.71 and what are we gonna do to change a life 00:35:17.74\00:35:20.22 because God has blessed us. 00:35:20.25\00:35:21.83 How can we bless somebody else 00:35:21.86\00:35:23.11 and that really spoke volumes to me. 00:35:23.14\00:35:25.64 I've been blessed, you know, with Karen Peck and New River, 00:35:25.67\00:35:27.98 great, just phenomenal people. 00:35:28.01\00:35:30.39 And when you have a standard like that, 00:35:30.42\00:35:33.04 you just want to always measure up to that standard 00:35:33.07\00:35:36.41 and these guys, wow, they really did it, 00:35:36.44\00:35:38.67 it's been blessing for the last 3 years almost. 00:35:38.70\00:35:42.00 We're gonna get you do another song, 00:35:42.03\00:35:43.66 may have time for two if you don't mind, 00:35:43.69\00:35:45.67 we'll work on that 00:35:45.70\00:35:46.92 but this one's "You'll Never Walk Alone", 00:35:46.95\00:35:49.38 now is that the one that we know from way back 00:35:49.41\00:35:52.35 or is this a new version of it or? 00:35:52.38\00:35:54.34 That song was written in 1945, 00:35:54.37\00:35:56.70 the year I was born, Lari Goss was born that year 00:35:56.73\00:35:59.80 and I've always loved that song. 00:35:59.83\00:36:01.72 And recorded it another times 00:36:01.75\00:36:03.92 and so when Lari was doing that, 00:36:03.95\00:36:05.43 we said, Lari, can you do us arrangement 00:36:05.46\00:36:07.37 on You'll Never Walk Alone? 00:36:07.40\00:36:08.97 So he called us, he said, 00:36:09.00\00:36:10.74 you guys like, would you mind starting in a minor key? 00:36:10.77\00:36:13.93 I don't know we'll hear it. 00:36:13.96\00:36:15.60 So then he put the other courses in there, 00:36:15.63\00:36:18.66 made it really a wonderful song. 00:36:18.69\00:36:21.47 And his-- the orchestration on this is unbelievable. 00:36:21.50\00:36:24.26 He's genius.
