Yes. 00:07:58.78\00:08:00.39 Well, tell us about your beginnings, 00:08:00.42\00:08:01.90 often times when people meet doctors 00:08:01.93\00:08:05.03 that have been as accomplished as you are, 00:08:05.06\00:08:07.50 they often think well you come from a family line 00:08:07.53\00:08:09.98 where the advantages were always there. 00:08:10.01\00:08:11.98 But take us to your humble beginnings and why this project 00:08:12.01\00:08:15.57 to help those in India so special to you? 00:08:15.60\00:08:18.04 I give glory to God for having given me 00:08:18.07\00:08:19.96 the opportunity to be here. 00:08:19.99\00:08:21.52 And I've seen how the Lord has led me from humble family. 00:08:21.55\00:08:26.23 I was born in a remote coastal village in Andhra Pradesh, 00:08:26.26\00:08:30.06 born in family of eight siblings. 00:08:30.09\00:08:33.13 My parents were farmers and my father would go into the field 00:08:33.16\00:08:38.56 bringing money to care for my family 00:08:38.59\00:08:41.58 and it was utter poverty. 00:08:41.61\00:08:44.93 But in this, the Lord has picked me up 00:08:44.96\00:08:47.17 and took me to a Seventh-day Adventist boarding school 00:08:47.20\00:08:50.77 where I received training, 00:08:50.80\00:08:53.27 and that's when I had the desire 00:08:53.30\00:08:55.33 to become a physician 00:08:55.36\00:08:57.33 even though I do not have the advantages of becoming one. 00:08:57.36\00:09:01.08 But I realize, I have seen the Lord's leading 00:09:01.11\00:09:03.81 from my schooling days to higher secondary school, 00:09:03.84\00:09:08.34 there after everyday was a miracle 00:09:08.37\00:09:10.86 as I went through my life. 00:09:10.89\00:09:14.11 That God gave me an opportunity to get into medical school. 00:09:14.14\00:09:17.10 It is impossible for a child of my nature to be able to get 00:09:17.13\00:09:21.24 into the gates of a medical school 00:09:21.27\00:09:22.59 but for the grace of God, and he made me a physician, 00:09:22.62\00:09:28.18 that's just because the Lord led me 00:09:28.21\00:09:30.10 and there was a miraculous way how he led me through all 00:09:30.13\00:09:33.19 through providing the need and finances, 00:09:33.22\00:09:35.39 the resources, the people who came 00:09:35.42\00:09:37.45 and pitched in to make sure 00:09:37.48\00:09:39.06 that I had the opportunity to get 00:09:39.09\00:09:40.93 into medical schools and completed my schooling. 00:09:40.96\00:09:43.79 Also what we're seeing 00:09:43.82\00:09:44.92 is when God has a plan for your life, 00:09:44.95\00:09:46.66 nothing can hinder that plan, it's just a matter of time 00:09:46.69\00:09:49.92 and as we often see here at 3ABN, 00:09:49.95\00:09:51.93 God has all the resources 00:09:51.96\00:09:53.62 but it's often in the pockets of other individuals 00:09:53.65\00:09:55.80 on whose hearts he moved to make it reality. 00:09:55.83\00:09:58.57 God be for us who can be against us? 00:09:58.60\00:10:00.50 There you go. 00:10:00.53\00:10:01.57 It has always been the theme of my life 00:10:01.60\00:10:04.62 and I've seen through happening in my life. 00:10:04.65\00:10:07.61 So your beginning was not a prediction 00:10:07.64\00:10:09.37 of where you are today. 00:10:09.40\00:10:10.95 It was not even a road block because God's plan was, 00:10:10.98\00:10:13.30 what came to pass today and you are with God one-- 00:10:13.33\00:10:15.42 Nothing could come in my way as I see in my life. 00:10:15.45\00:10:19.61 Now briefly before we have a video 00:10:19.64\00:10:22.17 that I'm going to share with our viewing audience 00:10:22.20\00:10:25.31 and we'll describe to our listening audience 00:10:25.34\00:10:26.92 in just a moment here. 00:10:26.95\00:10:28.09 But I want you to just share with me, 00:10:28.12\00:10:29.73 what is the connection between you and Pastor John Bradshaw? 00:10:29.76\00:10:35.02 Meeting first John was miracle indeed. 00:10:35.05\00:10:39.56 We were encountering huge numbers of cataracts, 00:10:39.59\00:10:42.98 huge number of patients we need help. 00:10:43.01\00:10:46.24 We were not having the resources 00:10:46.27\00:10:48.68 but the challenge was too great 00:10:48.71\00:10:50.21 and we were in search of finding sponsors 00:10:50.24\00:10:53.80 who would help fund these large number of cataract surgeries. 00:10:53.83\00:10:58.58 And me and my wife and my little children 00:10:58.61\00:11:01.36 prayed that Sabbath afternoon, God please show us a sponsor. 00:11:01.39\00:11:07.23 I never knew Pastor John Bradshaw before, 00:11:07.26\00:11:09.39 I never knew what "It is Written" was all about? 00:11:09.42\00:11:12.25 But I had this 1.4 minute clipping of cataract surgery. 00:11:12.28\00:11:16.75 And I had this in my iPad 00:11:16.78\00:11:18.71 and I was walking around in this conference. 00:11:18.74\00:11:20.81 As I walked around, the Lord impressed me 00:11:20.84\00:11:22.90 that I must meet Pastor John Bradshaw. 00:11:22.93\00:11:26.18 And as I met him and requested for a short time two minutes, 00:11:26.21\00:11:30.78 in one and half minutes he saw this cataract surgery 00:11:30.81\00:11:33.52 which is impacting thousands of lives across India, 00:11:33.55\00:11:36.58 he said, this is something we got to do. 00:11:36.61\00:11:40.77 At the same time I also heard from Pastor John Bradshaw 00:11:40.80\00:11:44.02 that he was also looking for a humanitarian project. 00:11:44.05\00:11:47.30 Okay. 00:11:47.33\00:11:48.38 And it was a miracle indeed. 00:11:48.41\00:11:49.64 We were looking for a sponsor 00:11:49.67\00:11:51.76 and Pastor John Bradshaw was praying for a project. 00:11:51.79\00:11:55.32 Okay, so God-- 00:11:55.35\00:11:56.38 A humanitarian project. God connected, 00:11:56.41\00:11:58.36 you needed the sponsorship, 00:11:58.39\00:11:59.54 he needed a humanitarian project. 00:11:59.57\00:12:01.73 Chime in on that? 00:12:01.76\00:12:02.82 Let me-- tell me something about this? 00:12:02.85\00:12:04.31 The moment I saw this video and found out 00:12:04.34\00:12:07.03 what Dr. Jacob was doing there, 00:12:07.06\00:12:09.30 ministering to some of India's poorest people, 00:12:09.33\00:12:12.60 I'm not trying to sensationalize this. 00:12:12.63\00:12:14.19 Right. 00:12:14.22\00:12:15.26 These people are poor. 00:12:15.29\00:12:16.67 This is utter poverty, people with nothing. 00:12:16.70\00:12:20.36 In India there is an incredible lack of eye doctors, 00:12:20.39\00:12:26.54 but many of these poor people couldn't afford 00:12:26.57\00:12:28.98 an eye doctor even if they could find one. 00:12:29.01\00:12:31.17 So, you know, when grandma gets cataract, 00:12:31.20\00:12:33.24 she goes to a doctor, he refers her to an ophthalmologist. 00:12:33.27\00:12:35.96 It's a couple of days and she is good as gold again. 00:12:35.99\00:12:39.11 But in India people are getting cataracts, 00:12:39.14\00:12:41.11 they are not getting medical attention. 00:12:41.14\00:12:42.54 These cataracts are becoming 00:12:42.57\00:12:44.21 what we call hypermature cataract, 00:12:44.24\00:12:46.55 great big milky white blobs in the middle of people's eyes. 00:12:46.58\00:12:50.15 They can't-- in many cases 00:12:50.18\00:12:52.65 cannot see a thing, blind. 00:12:52.68\00:12:55.07 What that means is they lose the ability to work. 00:12:55.10\00:12:57.52 There is no social security. Often they lose their dignity. 00:12:57.55\00:13:00.83 It may mean they can't even use 00:13:00.86\00:13:02.17 the bathroom without being assisted. 00:13:02.20\00:13:04.45 Being blind is a difficult thing for anybody, 00:13:04.48\00:13:07.43 but in India if you are the bottle of the heap, 00:13:07.46\00:13:10.17 it makes life really, really tough 00:13:10.20\00:13:12.09 and people kind of accept blindness as a fact of life. 00:13:12.12\00:13:14.91 There are 15 million blind people in India. 00:13:14.94\00:13:17.39 Many of whom could get their sight back 00:13:17.42\00:13:20.20 if they had simple cataract surgery. 00:13:20.23\00:13:22.05 When we saw this we said, this is a God thing. 00:13:22.08\00:13:25.56 Wow, wow, and that was an answer, 00:13:25.59\00:13:28.04 so you needed two minutes, 00:13:28.07\00:13:29.24 but God just needed about a minute and half 00:13:29.27\00:13:31.65 to connect the resource with the need. 00:13:31.68\00:13:33.90 It was just a miracle. 00:13:33.93\00:13:35.36 Wow, wow. 00:13:35.39\00:13:36.47 You know, I want to be able to introduce this video, 00:13:36.50\00:13:39.12 the dark side of India. 00:13:39.15\00:13:40.38 This will give you some understanding 00:13:40.41\00:13:42.37 of the ministry that Dr. Jacob is involved in. 00:13:42.40\00:13:44.98 Fifty two million people in India 00:13:58.52\00:14:00.67 struggle with visual impairment and blindness. 00:14:00.70\00:14:03.47 Can anything be done to keep up with this growing problem? 00:14:09.49\00:14:14.15 Join Dr. Jacob Prabhakar and his surgical team. 00:14:14.18\00:14:17.51 As we explore his break through techniques, 00:14:17.54\00:14:19.70 to restore sight to India's blind. 00:14:19.73\00:14:22.53 In the early morning light, people begin to stir. 00:14:36.55\00:14:40.21 This forest camp services an overflow for those 00:14:40.24\00:14:43.22 who are in the process of receiving careful 00:14:43.25\00:14:45.15 visual impairment, disease and blindness. 00:14:45.18\00:14:48.99 Many people travel great distances for treatment 00:14:49.02\00:14:51.95 and there are not enough facilities to accommodate them. 00:14:51.98\00:14:54.84 So they make do with what is available. 00:14:54.87\00:14:56.78 When I look at these crowds, 00:15:01.45\00:15:03.50 I'm remained of the time of Jesus 00:15:03.53\00:15:06.15 when He was in this earth. 00:15:06.18\00:15:07.88 They were like sheep without shepherd. 00:15:07.91\00:15:10.32 And when He saw them, Jesus was moved with compassion. 00:15:10.35\00:15:17.09 India is the seventh largest country in the world, 00:15:17.12\00:15:20.40 and with over 1.2 billion people, 00:15:20.43\00:15:23.03 it holds the unfortunate distinction 00:15:23.06\00:15:25.16 of having the largest population 00:15:25.19\00:15:26.81 that struggles with visual impairment and blindness. 00:15:26.84\00:15:30.46 An estimated 52 million people in India are visually impair. 00:15:30.49\00:15:34.84 And of these, approximately 15 million people 00:15:34.87\00:15:37.79 are coping with blindness in their daily lives. 00:15:37.82\00:15:40.66 Despite the recent economic boom, 00:15:45.50\00:15:47.90 the divide between the rich 00:15:47.93\00:15:49.15 and the poor continues to increase, 00:15:49.18\00:15:51.56 leaving the significant portion of the population 00:15:51.59\00:15:53.89 without access to basic health care services. 00:15:53.92\00:15:57.13 These people live either in rural India 00:15:57.16\00:15:59.90 or in the urban slums. 00:15:59.93\00:16:01.69 Further compounding the problem, 00:16:06.11\00:16:07.90 about 80% of the approximately 00:16:07.93\00:16:09.80 14,000 ophthalmologists in India 00:16:09.83\00:16:12.63 live and practice in urban areas. 00:16:12.66\00:16:18.51 In the early 1990s India recognize the role of cataracts 00:16:18.54\00:16:22.77 as a major contributor to the causes 00:16:22.80\00:16:24.78 of preventable blindness and launch initiatives 00:16:24.81\00:16:27.97 and coordinated national efforts to tackle this problem. 00:16:28.00\00:16:32.02 Despite major advances 00:16:32.05\00:16:33.46 in surgical techniques over the years, 00:16:33.49\00:16:35.89 cataracts still present a major challenge. 00:16:35.92\00:16:38.89 It is estimated that in over half of all cases of blindness, 00:16:38.92\00:16:42.30 about 7 million people cataract is present. 00:16:42.33\00:16:46.12 3.8 million people a year become blind from cataract 00:16:46.15\00:16:50.51 and over 6 million cataract cases are added each year. 00:16:50.54\00:16:55.20 Though the prevalence of cataract blindness 00:16:55.23\00:16:57.33 will decrease overtime, 00:16:57.36\00:16:58.90 the absolute number of the cataract-blind 00:16:58.93\00:17:01.63 is expected to increase to over 8 million in 2020 00:17:01.66\00:17:05.26 due to a substantial increase 00:17:05.29\00:17:06.89 in the population about 50 years old. 00:17:06.92\00:17:10.15 With all the challenges that cataracts present, 00:17:10.18\00:17:12.76 there is also good news. 00:17:12.79\00:17:14.59 Cataract surgery has been viewed as one of the most 00:17:14.62\00:17:17.00 cost effective health interventions 00:17:17.03\00:17:18.79 for developing countries, producing the largest overall 00:17:18.82\00:17:22.25 increase in quality of life per dollar. 00:17:22.28\00:17:27.13 Dr. Jacob Prabhakar is the medical director 00:17:27.16\00:17:29.60 at Ruby Nelson Memorial Hospital. 00:17:29.63\00:17:34.23 He's a highly skilled surgeon, 00:17:34.26\00:17:35.90 who has perfected the art of performing 00:17:35.93\00:17:37.81 high volume cataract surgeries in minimal time 00:17:37.84\00:17:41.03 with the highest success rates possible. 00:17:41.06\00:17:43.18 From our experience, 00:17:43.21\00:17:44.24 we don't think anybody else could actually carry out 00:17:44.27\00:17:47.02 the number of operations 00:17:47.05\00:17:48.08 that are needed in India for this kind of work. 00:17:48.11\00:17:52.26 What matters to me is that he is a blessed doctor. 00:17:52.29\00:17:56.83 He has a beautiful family and other than that 00:17:56.86\00:17:59.33 what we love him for is that he is a wonderful human being. 00:17:59.36\00:18:02.76 What to say about Dr. Jacob sir, 00:18:02.79\00:18:06.20 I don't have any words, I'm just his fan, big fan. 00:18:06.23\00:18:10.68 His mission includes reaching some of India's poorest people, 00:18:10.71\00:18:14.38 who don't have access to healthcare. 00:18:14.41\00:18:16.56 To provide them with state of the art 00:18:16.59\00:18:18.47 quick and low cost operations 00:18:18.50\00:18:20.69 which enable them to have a better quality of life. 00:18:20.72\00:18:23.75 We have revolutionized the service here 00:18:23.78\00:18:29.01 in this place by providing high quality, 00:18:29.04\00:18:33.49 stitch less surgery 00:18:33.52\00:18:35.71 with intraocular lens implantation 00:18:35.74\00:18:39.14 to the poorest of the poor, rural masses of the state. 00:18:39.17\00:18:43.57 They would not have been able to afford 00:18:43.60\00:18:46.01 a cataract surgery of this nature 00:18:46.04\00:18:48.57 but for Ruby Nelson Hospital team. 00:18:48.60\00:18:51.62 He travels with the Ruby Nelson Mobile Eye unit, 00:18:51.65\00:18:54.64 and coordinates with local temples to provide eye care 00:18:54.67\00:18:57.89 to deprived and at need areas, 00:18:57.92\00:19:00.19 also using this avenue to teach 00:19:00.22\00:19:02.06 the principles of healthy living 00:19:02.09\00:19:04.01 and to share his beliefs in God. 00:19:04.04\00:19:06.77 We take the time to identify the patients in their villages, 00:19:06.80\00:19:12.40 also talk to each of them about the visual recovery 00:19:12.43\00:19:17.01 and to find out how happy they are. 00:19:17.04\00:19:20.08 We also take time to pray with these patients. 00:19:20.11\00:19:23.74 It's a very wonderful experience to do 00:19:23.77\00:19:27.40 such a thing in these villages. 00:19:27.43\00:19:31.12 Wow, I don't if you are as speechless 00:19:31.15\00:19:32.58 as I'm but I'm sitting here, 00:19:32.61\00:19:33.65 looking at something that is staggering to think 00:19:33.68\00:19:37.43 that in a country as large as India, 1.2 billion people 00:19:37.46\00:19:41.78 that the rate of so many individuals 00:19:41.81\00:19:44.77 struggling with cataract blindness 00:19:44.80\00:19:46.55 and blindness of different varieties 00:19:46.58\00:19:49.15 are is that constant challenge in India. 00:19:49.18\00:19:51.86 And, doctor, tell me how do you do it? 00:19:51.89\00:19:58.44 I mean, if I'm thinking of you as one individual, 00:19:58.47\00:20:02.39 I'm looking at the numbers, I'm looking at the statistics, 00:20:02.42\00:20:05.83 I'm looking at the ratio, 00:20:05.86\00:20:07.46 one individual to so many millions. 00:20:07.49\00:20:10.44 What keeps you going, when it almost seems 00:20:10.47\00:20:12.53 like an impossible task to accomplish? 00:20:12.56\00:20:15.28 Yeah, these numbers are alarming 00:20:15.31\00:20:17.93 and when we go to these clinics, 00:20:17.96\00:20:19.29 we see most of these patients are bilaterally blind. 00:20:19.32\00:20:24.29 And they cannot see anything, they're helpless. 00:20:24.32\00:20:27.62 That means in both eyes, bilateral, okay. 00:20:27.65\00:20:29.31 Yes, both eyes they're blind and they come 00:20:29.34\00:20:32.04 with the great hope to receive sight, 00:20:32.07\00:20:34.06 so that they could do-- 00:20:34.09\00:20:36.02 they could manage their own life again, 00:20:36.05\00:20:37.84 otherwise they are dependent and so RV to SV 00:20:37.87\00:20:41.68 we try to do as much as possible 00:20:41.71\00:20:44.96 to help these patients, 00:20:44.99\00:20:46.02 so we in a given day we screen about 1,500 patients or so. 00:20:46.05\00:20:51.31 And we line up about 200 to 250 patients for surgery, 00:20:51.34\00:20:55.12 after having done all the preparations for surgery, 00:20:55.15\00:20:58.29 we would start off day of surgery 00:20:58.32\00:21:01.08 at about 5 or 6 o'clock in the evening, 00:21:01.11\00:21:03.39 and by midnight would have finished 00:21:03.42\00:21:05.47 about 200 or 250 surgeries 00:21:05.50\00:21:08.08 and these surgeries are performed 00:21:08.11\00:21:11.84 less than two minutes one surgery, 00:21:11.87\00:21:13.58 30, 35 surgeries in one hour. 00:21:13.61\00:21:15.52 I mean 200 and 200 surgeries 00:21:15.55\00:21:17.56 would have finished in six hours. 00:21:17.59\00:21:20.41 That's-- I don't know, John, 00:21:20.44\00:21:21.82 I don't know, if you're just speechless as I'm, 00:21:21.85\00:21:23.29 I'm trying to-- I can't -- 00:21:23.32\00:21:25.79 how many things can you do in two minutes? 00:21:25.82\00:21:27.69 I've stood behind Dr. Jacob 00:21:27.72\00:21:29.05 with my stopwatch and timed him, 00:21:29.08\00:21:30.91 1:40 for an eye. 00:21:30.94\00:21:32.73 No, it's not a race to see who can go the fastest 00:21:32.76\00:21:34.67 but what God has done with such massive numbers. 00:21:34.70\00:21:37.85 Dr. Jacob is able to do-- I don't know, 00:21:37.88\00:21:40.37 if he will tell you that he has done 00:21:40.40\00:21:41.43 as many as 465 in a single day, 00:21:41.46\00:21:45.10 which means he is able to-- 00:21:45.13\00:21:47.05 God is using him to make a massive impact 00:21:47.08\00:21:49.74 and change the lives of thousands and thousands 00:21:49.77\00:21:52.45 and thousands of people, 00:21:52.48\00:21:53.57 otherwise would be blind right now without the help. 00:21:53.60\00:21:57.57 Give me some understanding 00:21:57.60\00:21:58.63 because I'm looking at the different demographic, 00:21:58.66\00:22:02.08 the age doesn't really matter, there are young children, 00:22:02.11\00:22:05.11 there are people that various stages 00:22:05.14\00:22:07.11 and various ages in life that are battling. 00:22:07.14\00:22:09.48 Could you give me some understanding 00:22:09.51\00:22:10.66 as to why this problem is so rampant in India? 00:22:10.69\00:22:13.29 What contributes to it? 00:22:13.32\00:22:14.69 Most of this blindness 00:22:14.72\00:22:16.67 is either preventable or treatable. 00:22:16.70\00:22:18.69 Okay. 00:22:18.72\00:22:20.28 There has been a huge backlog of cataract 00:22:20.31\00:22:22.08 over a period of time and every year 3.8 million 00:22:22.11\00:22:25.22 is added to the existing backlog. 00:22:25.25\00:22:27.78 The surgeons in India all of them put together, 00:22:27.81\00:22:30.61 they perform about 1.2 million cataracts, 00:22:30.64\00:22:33.23 still it is less than 50% 00:22:33.26\00:22:35.36 of what is actually added every year to the existing backlog. 00:22:35.39\00:22:40.90 And most of this blindness is due to cataract 00:22:40.93\00:22:44.29 and refractive errors. 00:22:44.32\00:22:46.03 Cataract is that which is causing 00:22:46.06\00:22:49.93 so much blindness across and 80% of the 50 million 00:22:49.96\00:22:53.49 could be helped with the simple cataract surgery. 00:22:53.52\00:22:57.13 And we have improvised this technique 00:22:57.16\00:22:59.96 which could take about 20 minutes or 40 minutes or less, 00:22:59.99\00:23:04.42 they've reduced the time taken 00:23:04.45\00:23:05.92 for a cataract surgery to less than two minutes, 00:23:05.95\00:23:08.41 improvised the technique, reduce the instrumentation, 00:23:08.44\00:23:11.18 reduce the consumables, reduce the time taken 00:23:11.21\00:23:16.98 in order to accommodate as many surgeries as possible. 00:23:17.01\00:23:20.23 Wow, wow, I'm almost asking myself, 00:23:20.26\00:23:22.72 when does he-- when do you eat? 00:23:22.75\00:23:25.47 There were times we really do not think of having a meal, 00:23:25.50\00:23:30.53 on a given day when we have thousands 00:23:30.56\00:23:33.75 of patients waiting outside, 00:23:33.78\00:23:34.94 there are times 2-3,000 patients are waiting outside 00:23:34.97\00:23:37.84 the operating room for surgery. 00:23:37.87\00:23:40.21 We begin our surgery 00:23:40.24\00:23:41.58 in the morning about 6 or 7 o'clock. 00:23:41.61\00:23:44.13 We go through the day 00:23:44.16\00:23:46.70 with no breakfast, no lunch, 00:23:46.73\00:23:48.11 sometimes even skip any breaks to perform 00:23:48.14\00:23:52.78 as many surgeries as possible in order, 00:23:52.81\00:23:54.89 if you break for breakfast or lunch, 00:23:54.92\00:23:58.29 it would cost us about an hour or so, 00:23:58.32\00:24:01.66 which means 35 surgeries each break. 00:24:01.69\00:24:03.86 Wow. 00:24:03.89\00:24:04.92 In three breaks we would have to foregot 00:24:04.95\00:24:07.81 about 100 surgeries in five days 00:24:07.84\00:24:11.04 we would have lost 500 patients 00:24:11.07\00:24:14.01 whose sights could not have been restored 00:24:14.04\00:24:16.96 and so the Lord gives us strength 00:24:16.99\00:24:19.15 and the energy and the motivation 00:24:19.18\00:24:20.58 and the spirit, 00:24:20.61\00:24:21.68 and the spirit of the Lord is upon you. 00:24:21.71\00:24:23.32 That's right. 00:24:23.35\00:24:24.41 It drives you to help as many patients as possible. 00:24:24.44\00:24:27.48 Wow, you know, Pastor Bradshaw, 00:24:27.51\00:24:28.94 this reminds me of the statement 00:24:28.97\00:24:30.01 that Jesus made, I'm beginning to get the context of it. 00:24:30.04\00:24:33.20 "My food is to do the will of the father." 00:24:33.23\00:24:37.07 I said just recently to someone 00:24:37.10\00:24:38.68 who I visited couple of days ago. 00:24:38.71\00:24:41.28 I said, my wife is calling me to eat, 00:24:41.31\00:24:42.84 I said the best diet is giving Bible studies, 00:24:42.87\00:24:45.46 and so each one of us finds our fuel 00:24:45.49\00:24:47.30 somewhere when we're doing God's will, 00:24:47.33\00:24:48.64 I know what it's like to be, an evangelist, 00:24:48.67\00:24:50.90 when you're thinking of the souls coming to Christ, 00:24:50.93\00:24:52.50 when you're thinking of-- Sure. 00:24:52.53\00:24:53.56 You break that down to an hour, 00:24:53.59\00:24:54.72 35 an hour and you add that up 00:24:54.75\00:24:56.35 and you could lose 500 patients in a week 00:24:56.38\00:24:58.64 that could have been seen if you didn't eat, 00:24:58.67\00:25:01.14 that's a hard scale to balance. 00:25:01.17\00:25:03.82 But those are the challenges that you face. 00:25:03.85\00:25:06.61 At the end of operating 350 to 400 surgeries, 00:25:06.64\00:25:10.01 you would still have the energy to want to go back and operate. 00:25:10.04\00:25:13.64 Because you think of the lives. Yes. 00:25:13.67\00:25:15.38 You're thinking of the homes that you're impacting, 00:25:15.41\00:25:17.02 I don't know, I don't know, I'm telling you, 00:25:17.05\00:25:19.26 I didn't anticipate this program to be so-- 00:25:19.29\00:25:21.71 to get hold of me this way, 00:25:21.74\00:25:23.03 often times you do interviews about various ministries, 00:25:23.06\00:25:25.61 but this is just so amazing 'cause we went to India, 00:25:25.64\00:25:28.26 we went with Maranatha, my wife and I went with Maranatha. 00:25:28.29\00:25:30.83 We were in Andhra Pradesh 00:25:30.86\00:25:32.61 and various other cities in India, 00:25:32.64\00:25:35.97 and you could see the masses of people. 00:25:36.00\00:25:38.26 I'm sure you've been there, John. Sure. 00:25:38.29\00:25:39.93 You can see the masses of people 00:25:39.96\00:25:41.72 and you almost want to pause in the streets and say, 00:25:41.75\00:25:45.15 Lord, how are you going to reach all of these people? 00:25:45.18\00:25:47.99 And your ministry is not just opening their eyes 00:25:48.02\00:25:51.65 but because of the opening of their eyes, 00:25:51.68\00:25:53.81 it's also opening the door for them to consider 00:25:53.84\00:25:55.74 the Lord that you serve. 00:25:55.77\00:25:56.82 Tell us about that? 00:25:56.85\00:25:59.23 After the surgery, these patients 00:25:59.26\00:26:01.14 who receive the sight again they're so excited. 00:26:01.17\00:26:04.28 They're able to see allover the world, 00:26:04.31\00:26:07.45 again the entire, the beauty of God's creation. 00:26:07.48\00:26:10.53 They're able to go back home excited 00:26:10.56\00:26:12.50 because they can depend on themselves. 00:26:12.53\00:26:14.38 They can eat their food, they can cook, 00:26:14.41\00:26:16.41 they can earn some living, 00:26:16.44\00:26:18.33 and they are able see their children. 00:26:18.36\00:26:20.13 It's such a very wonderful thing for them. 00:26:20.16\00:26:22.62 They're so excited to have this vision restored. 00:26:22.65\00:26:25.51 And as they see the physical eyes opened, 00:26:25.54\00:26:30.38 we also have the opportunity to sing songs for them, 00:26:30.41\00:26:33.55 we pray with them. 00:26:33.58\00:26:34.65 We share the love of Jesus to these patients. Amen. 00:26:34.68\00:26:37.75 I think that's the greatest joy we have. 00:26:37.78\00:26:39.73 You're not only opening 00:26:39.76\00:26:40.79 the physical eyes of these patients 00:26:40.82\00:26:41.98 but also give them the spiritual sight. 00:26:42.01\00:26:44.66 And go, John, chime in on that. 00:26:44.69\00:26:47.03 What's remarkable about 00:26:47.06\00:26:48.09 this medical missionary project, 00:26:48.12\00:26:50.46 think about India, 00:26:50.49\00:26:51.54 it's a predominantly Hindu nation. 00:26:51.57\00:26:53.23 Right. 00:26:53.26\00:26:54.29 There are many Muslims there as well, it's very difficult. 00:26:54.32\00:26:56.81 In fact in many cases impossible for Christians 00:26:56.84\00:27:00.41 to effectively witness to these people 00:27:00.44\00:27:02.17 in many, many cases. 00:27:02.20\00:27:03.92 Yet, I've been welcomed as a guest along with Dr. Jacob 00:27:03.95\00:27:07.21 into a Hindu temple like a long lost brother, 00:27:07.24\00:27:10.27 into Sikh temples as though we were part of the family. 00:27:10.30\00:27:13.77 Muslims welcoming this Christian project 00:27:13.80\00:27:17.36 and they're grateful because Dr. Jacob 00:27:17.39\00:27:20.39 and his team are bringing the healing touch of Jesus. 00:27:20.42\00:27:23.68 This is where religious barriers disappear. 00:27:23.71\00:27:26.67 And people of all different religious backgrounds 00:27:26.70\00:27:29.05 are impressed with these Christians. 00:27:29.08\00:27:31.16 Seventh-day Adventist Christians, 00:27:31.19\00:27:33.30 coming and blessing them when they don't have to, 00:27:33.33\00:27:36.42 the care is provided free, 00:27:36.45\00:27:38.38 there is the love of God demonstrated, 00:27:38.41\00:27:40.23 that's a language anybody can understand. 00:27:40.26\00:27:41.51 That's right. 00:27:41.54\00:27:42.58 So this ministry is opening doors 00:27:42.61\00:27:44.35 that are usually locked tight. 00:27:44.38\00:27:47.99 That is a, you know, you can breakdown 00:27:48.02\00:27:49.63 the door many ways, 00:27:49.66\00:27:50.98 but I think one of the most effective 00:27:51.01\00:27:52.36 is through first the persons needs and you know, 00:27:52.39\00:27:55.11 James says, if they are hungry and they are naked, 00:27:55.14\00:27:56.70 you take care of these needs and then that opens the door, 00:27:56.73\00:27:59.22 so the ministry of Jesus is more than 00:27:59.25\00:28:00.66 just the gospel in preaching, 00:28:00.69\00:28:02.61 but the actual physical gospel and the value of your hands 00:28:02.64\00:28:05.79 in your life are without estimate. 00:28:05.82\00:28:09.06 But I see you're brimming. 00:28:09.09\00:28:10.46 I must share this testimony, when Jesus was on this earth, 00:28:10.49\00:28:14.04 He went to the people, He met them where they were, 00:28:14.07\00:28:16.64 I think it's the great challenge for us 00:28:16.67\00:28:18.14 to go to these remote villages, 00:28:18.17\00:28:20.70 without us going there, they'd never see again. 00:28:20.73\00:28:24.04 There is no healthcare, 00:28:24.07\00:28:25.24 they cannot afford, lack of awareness, 00:28:25.27\00:28:27.57 all these cause these patients to live and die blind. 00:28:27.60\00:28:31.65 We get an opportunity to go to them, 00:28:31.68\00:28:33.76 ministering to them, open their eyes. 00:28:33.79\00:28:36.01 We pick them up, adults and childrens as well. 00:28:36.04\00:28:39.10 Take them to the nearest operating theater. 00:28:39.13\00:28:41.15 In few minutes, they're able to see again. 00:28:41.18\00:28:44.44 It's such a great joy. 00:28:44.47\00:28:46.30 And I must share with you a testimony, 00:28:46.33\00:28:48.76 where most of our ministry is in Hindu temples 00:28:48.79\00:28:51.75 and Sikh temples as pastor has said. 00:28:51.78\00:28:54.82 And in one of those temples where we were invited 00:28:54.85\00:28:57.26 as a small team of Christians operating on one side, 00:28:57.29\00:29:00.92 and there was another team of nine surgeons 00:29:00.95\00:29:03.70 from Mumbai operating and then we had 00:29:03.73\00:29:07.45 the greatest opportunity of witnessing in this temple 00:29:07.48\00:29:10.13 when we are called there for the first time, 00:29:10.16\00:29:11.93 there were nine surgeons operating on one side 00:29:11.96\00:29:14.22 and one surgeon, one team on the other side, 00:29:14.25\00:29:18.83 we did more than 400 surgeries on a given day. 00:29:18.86\00:29:21.89 Wow. 00:29:21.92\00:29:22.96 And the chief priest was announcing 00:29:22.99\00:29:24.37 in the Hindu temple. 00:29:24.40\00:29:25.58 These Christians are performing magic. Wow. 00:29:25.61\00:29:29.57 I went to the chief priest 00:29:29.60\00:29:30.68 and told him we don't believe in magic, 00:29:30.71\00:29:33.35 but we believe in a miracle performing God. 00:29:33.38\00:29:36.62 Amen. Amen. Wow. 00:29:36.65\00:29:38.80 And since then onwards, this chief priest gives us 00:29:38.83\00:29:41.31 the opportunity to worship with them in the Hindu temple. 00:29:41.34\00:29:46.48 Unbelievable. 00:29:46.51\00:29:47.91 Devotees come to worship their God, 00:29:47.94\00:29:50.76 singing chants to their Gods 00:29:50.79\00:29:54.00 but we while they were also worshiping on one side, 00:29:54.03\00:29:57.14 we conduct worships service, sing songs, 00:29:57.17\00:29:59.90 Bible study to the chief priest. 00:29:59.93\00:30:01.76 Wow. 00:30:01.79\00:30:02.82 And the devotees listen to us, 00:30:02.85\00:30:05.20 if it is not for the medical ministry, 00:30:05.23\00:30:08.03 Christians would never have an entry 00:30:08.06\00:30:09.86 into the gates of this temple complexes. 00:30:09.89\00:30:12.40 I tell you, I have to give you 00:30:12.43\00:30:13.61 Pastor Bradshaw a chance to say something 00:30:13.64\00:30:15.17 'cause that is an evangelic series you cannot buy. 00:30:15.20\00:30:17.90 Oh, that's right. 00:30:17.93\00:30:18.96 In fact, we held an evangelistic series 00:30:18.99\00:30:20.61 earlier this year, 00:30:20.64\00:30:21.96 this remarkable-- in Andhra Pradesh, 00:30:21.99\00:30:25.04 and Dr. Jacob's Eyes for India team had been there 00:30:25.07\00:30:27.12 and seen many, many patients. 00:30:27.15\00:30:29.73 Among those baptized were at least 100 00:30:29.76\00:30:33.40 would receive this medical missionary touch. 00:30:33.43\00:30:35.66 You see them sitting in the congregation 00:30:35.69\00:30:37.90 with their dark glasses on, 00:30:37.93\00:30:39.12 this is the postoperative glasses 00:30:39.15\00:30:40.52 they wear to protect their eyes. 00:30:40.55\00:30:42.27 Opening up their eyes is one thing 00:30:42.30\00:30:43.74 and that's very important, 00:30:43.77\00:30:45.30 but we praise the Lord because in many cases 00:30:45.33\00:30:47.08 it means opening up their hearts. 00:30:47.11\00:30:48.16 That right. 00:30:48.19\00:30:49.22 And when you reach out in the love of Jesus, 00:30:49.25\00:30:52.61 and offer that healing touch, 00:30:52.64\00:30:54.26 it touches their heart in ways that nothing else can. 00:30:54.29\00:30:57.02 Oh, I just want to preach right now, 00:30:57.05\00:30:58.25 I'm just-- that sermon with the man 00:30:58.28\00:31:00.40 when the chief priest was saying, 00:31:00.43\00:31:02.31 who-- what was his name? 00:31:02.34\00:31:04.67 Who was it that opened your eyes? 00:31:04.70\00:31:06.58 He said. 00:42:50.48\00:42:53.35 non-governmental organizations and generous donors. 00:42:53.38\00:42:57.09 The cost of providing prescription spectacles 00:42:57.12\00:42:59.26 for 10 children is $50.
