Welcome to The Creator Revealed. 00:00:31.39\00:00:34.16 My name is Tim Standish and I'm a scientist, 00:00:34.20\00:00:37.53 that means that sometimes I speak a language 00:00:37.57\00:00:40.37 that doesn't really sound like English. 00:00:40.40\00:00:44.14 So thankfully, 00:00:44.17\00:00:45.64 I have here with me Shelley Quinn, 00:00:45.67\00:00:48.08 who is going to help me stick. 00:00:48.11\00:00:49.44 Keep you on the straight line. 00:00:49.48\00:00:50.81 Will stick to English... 00:00:50.85\00:00:52.18 Yes, please. 00:00:52.21\00:00:53.55 In this fabulous program 00:00:53.58\00:00:55.58 in which we are going to talk about 00:00:55.62\00:00:58.52 what the creation tells us about the Creator. 00:00:58.55\00:01:03.36 You know, we're so excited about this, Tim, 00:01:03.39\00:01:05.09 because first of all, we wanna thank 00:01:05.13\00:01:07.03 The Geoscience Research Institute 00:01:07.06\00:01:09.80 who has allowed him this time off to come 00:01:09.83\00:01:13.23 and produce this series. 00:01:13.27\00:01:14.97 And we're very excited 00:01:15.00\00:01:17.67 because Creation Science is something 00:01:17.71\00:01:20.78 that is doubted by many, 00:01:20.81\00:01:23.55 it to me... 00:01:23.58\00:01:25.15 It's, there's so much proof that God is with us that, 00:01:25.18\00:01:29.38 God created us. 00:01:29.42\00:01:30.99 And that's what we're going to do here. 00:01:31.02\00:01:32.45 Now, the first 15 minutes of this program, 00:01:32.49\00:01:35.99 you're gonna get introduced to a scientific fact. 00:01:36.02\00:01:38.89 The second 15 minutes of the program, 00:01:38.93\00:01:41.96 we're going to tie that in 00:01:42.00\00:01:44.37 as to how it affects you in a personal way 00:01:44.40\00:01:48.67 and how you can put it into a practical application. 00:01:48.70\00:01:53.17 I'm looking forward to that part. 00:01:53.21\00:01:54.54 Yes. 00:01:54.58\00:01:55.91 But of course, as a scientist, what I want to do is dive in 00:01:55.94\00:01:58.25 to what we are going to talk about, 00:01:58.28\00:02:00.95 and I want to just prefix 00:02:00.98\00:02:04.02 our discussion of the science with something 00:02:04.05\00:02:07.56 that the Apostle Paul wrote almost 2000 years ago. 00:02:07.59\00:02:11.19 It may seem like an unlikely thing to choose. 00:02:11.23\00:02:14.63 But remember that Paul was writing 00:02:14.66\00:02:18.73 to all kinds of different people 00:02:18.77\00:02:21.17 back there in the Roman Empire. 00:02:21.20\00:02:23.14 In this letter to the Romans, he wrote these words, he said, 00:02:23.17\00:02:28.71 "For since the creation of the world 00:02:28.74\00:02:32.01 His invisible attributes," 00:02:32.05\00:02:34.18 this is God's invisible attributes 00:02:34.22\00:02:36.75 "are clearly seen, 00:02:36.79\00:02:38.85 being understood by the things that are made, 00:02:38.89\00:02:43.12 even His eternal power and Godhead, 00:02:43.16\00:02:46.49 so that they are without excuse." 00:02:46.53\00:02:49.70 What he is saying here 00:02:49.73\00:02:51.83 is that we just as the Romans could, 00:02:51.87\00:02:55.70 can look at what God made 00:02:55.74\00:02:58.37 and we can learn certain things about the Creator. 00:02:58.41\00:03:02.31 In other words, the creation reveals the Creator. 00:03:02.34\00:03:07.12 So what is the thing we're going to learn today? 00:03:07.15\00:03:11.19 Well, we're going to learn about machines, 00:03:11.22\00:03:14.32 but not the large machines that you're used to thinking about, 00:03:14.36\00:03:18.99 things like cars and tractors and cranes, 00:03:19.03\00:03:22.33 and those sorts of machines. 00:03:22.36\00:03:24.47 These machines operate on exactly 00:03:24.50\00:03:27.47 the same physical principles, but they are microscopic. 00:03:27.50\00:03:31.61 In fact, they're smaller than you can see 00:03:31.64\00:03:33.98 with a normal microscope. 00:03:34.01\00:03:36.01 They are molecular machines, they're made up of molecules. 00:03:36.04\00:03:40.58 But first we need to understand why living things need 00:03:40.62\00:03:47.36 these little tiny machines inside. 00:03:47.39\00:03:50.83 So let's sort of step back and think about how life works 00:03:50.86\00:03:55.50 and we all know 00:03:55.53\00:03:56.87 that the sun shines and that's sunshine, 00:03:56.90\00:04:00.37 that light that comes down is a form of energy. 00:04:00.40\00:04:04.11 And that light energy is what plants use 00:04:04.14\00:04:08.54 so that they can grow, right? 00:04:08.58\00:04:10.45 Is that photosynthesis? 00:04:10.48\00:04:11.81 Photosynthesis, right. 00:04:11.85\00:04:13.58 And so in this amazing process of photosynthesis, 00:04:13.62\00:04:18.62 there are all these machines, little tiny machines 00:04:18.65\00:04:21.89 that are taking energy in the form of light 00:04:21.92\00:04:25.66 and converting it 00:04:25.69\00:04:27.03 into another form into chemical energy. 00:04:27.06\00:04:30.73 That's what machines do. 00:04:30.77\00:04:32.20 They convert energy from one form into another form 00:04:32.23\00:04:37.17 and by doing that they do work. 00:04:37.21\00:04:39.91 All right, but if that same light source 00:04:39.94\00:04:44.11 is shining on an inanimate or an object 00:04:44.15\00:04:49.05 that is not alive, like asphalt, 00:04:49.08\00:04:52.29 it's not producing anything. 00:04:52.32\00:04:53.66 Yeah, exactly. 00:04:53.69\00:04:55.02 Most people who drive have probably noticed that 00:04:55.06\00:04:57.29 the roads do not grow and repair themselves 00:04:57.33\00:04:59.79 when the sun is out. 00:04:59.83\00:05:01.23 That's not what happens 00:05:01.26\00:05:02.60 because roads are not living things 00:05:02.63\00:05:04.87 and living things 00:05:04.90\00:05:06.23 are distinctly different, in part 00:05:06.27\00:05:08.70 because they have these little machines in there 00:05:08.74\00:05:12.34 that are doing this work 00:05:12.37\00:05:13.98 that are converting energy from one form into another. 00:05:14.01\00:05:18.45 All right. 00:05:18.48\00:05:19.81 All right, so that's what we're talking about here. 00:05:19.85\00:05:23.72 Now the parts of machines that the molecular machines, 00:05:23.75\00:05:27.22 these little tiny machines 00:05:27.26\00:05:28.89 that the parts are made out of, primarily protein. 00:05:28.92\00:05:32.83 Most people know what that is. 00:05:32.86\00:05:34.26 So there's a question, 00:05:34.30\00:05:35.63 where did that protein come from? 00:05:35.66\00:05:38.17 Charles Darwin had a theory about that. 00:05:38.20\00:05:40.94 Now, remember Charles Darwin, he's a materialist. 00:05:40.97\00:05:43.87 So he's trying to figure out how can we do this without God? 00:05:43.91\00:05:46.78 And he wrote this to a friend, 00:05:46.81\00:05:48.51 he said, "If and oh, what a big if, 00:05:48.54\00:05:51.31 we could conceive in some warm little pond 00:05:51.35\00:05:54.68 with all sorts of ammonia and phosphoric salts, 00:05:54.72\00:05:58.92 light, heat, electricity, etc., present, 00:05:58.95\00:06:02.49 that a protein compound was chemically formed," 00:06:02.52\00:06:06.16 so not by God but by chemical formation, 00:06:06.19\00:06:10.07 "ready to undergo still more complex changes..." 00:06:10.10\00:06:15.87 So he's saying, hey, maybe we can get proteins 00:06:15.90\00:06:18.27 in a warm little pond that was full of chemicals 00:06:18.31\00:06:22.34 but there's a problem with that, 00:06:22.38\00:06:24.61 and you have to understand 00:06:24.65\00:06:26.41 how these protein parts are made. 00:06:26.45\00:06:29.62 So let's take a quick look at that. 00:06:29.65\00:06:31.05 Okay. Okay. 00:06:31.09\00:06:32.42 So proteins, they're made out of things 00:06:32.45\00:06:34.96 called amino acids 00:06:34.99\00:06:36.96 and those amino acids can be joined together 00:06:36.99\00:06:39.36 by removing a water molecule 00:06:39.39\00:06:43.13 and you can just join them together one after the other. 00:06:43.16\00:06:46.50 Usually proteins 00:06:46.53\00:06:47.87 will be hundreds of these amino acids long 00:06:47.90\00:06:51.14 and each one of them is joined together 00:06:51.17\00:06:53.54 by removing a water molecule. 00:06:53.58\00:06:56.71 So you don't have to... 00:06:56.75\00:06:58.11 Yeah, you don't have to be an expert. 00:06:58.15\00:06:59.48 I can get this. Yes. 00:06:59.51\00:07:01.42 What's gonna happen? 00:07:01.45\00:07:02.78 So it's not gonna have, 00:07:02.82\00:07:04.15 proteins are not going to be developed 00:07:04.19\00:07:06.05 according to Darwin's theory in a warm little pond, 00:07:06.09\00:07:09.49 because if you were trying to process in a pond, 00:07:09.52\00:07:12.83 it's going to add H2O elements, not. 00:07:12.86\00:07:18.70 Exactly, 00:07:18.73\00:07:20.24 water is so important, right? 00:07:20.27\00:07:21.60 Right. 00:07:21.64\00:07:22.97 So water is going to go into things, not come out. 00:07:23.00\00:07:25.87 So how is it then that in living cells, 00:07:25.91\00:07:30.38 they can make proteins because remember, 00:07:30.41\00:07:33.42 our bodies, those cells that our body is made up of, 00:07:33.45\00:07:37.02 they're more than 50% water. 00:07:37.05\00:07:39.79 So how is it that this happens? 00:07:39.82\00:07:42.32 And the secret is, again, in machines. 00:07:42.36\00:07:45.49 There are machines that take the amino acids 00:07:45.53\00:07:50.93 and bring them together and remove that water molecule. 00:07:50.97\00:07:54.87 They use energy to do that work. 00:07:54.90\00:07:57.77 Okay. 00:07:57.81\00:07:59.14 Okay, there's a lot of power involved in all of this. 00:07:59.17\00:08:02.84 So think about the irony of that. 00:08:02.88\00:08:04.81 Yes. 00:08:04.85\00:08:06.18 You got to have the machines to make the proteins 00:08:06.21\00:08:09.55 from which the machines are made. 00:08:09.58\00:08:11.55 Okay. 00:08:11.59\00:08:12.92 It's like a chicken and egg situation, 00:08:12.95\00:08:14.29 you got to have the whole system functioning 00:08:14.32\00:08:16.32 before you can have any of it functioning. 00:08:16.36\00:08:18.86 Oh, boy, that statement that, 00:08:18.89\00:08:21.60 to me really supports an intelligent Creator or God. 00:08:21.63\00:08:26.77 Oh, my yes, you know. 00:08:26.80\00:08:28.57 So let's, let's continue on. 00:08:28.60\00:08:30.81 I'm gonna show you a protein machine 00:08:30.84\00:08:32.57 one of these machines, 00:08:32.61\00:08:33.94 and this particular machine is like a wind turbine, 00:08:33.98\00:08:37.28 the exactly the same principles are involved. 00:08:37.31\00:08:41.42 So on a wind turbine that wind energy is, 00:08:41.45\00:08:45.62 it starts the turbine turning 00:08:45.65\00:08:49.76 and that energy is transferred them to a generator, right? 00:08:49.79\00:08:53.43 So the wind energy is then converted 00:08:53.46\00:08:55.60 into electrical energy. 00:08:55.63\00:08:57.60 That's how it works. 00:08:57.63\00:08:58.97 The same principles are involved in this 00:08:59.00\00:09:01.84 fabulous little tiny microscopic, 00:09:01.87\00:09:05.64 submicroscopic machine called ATP Synthase. 00:09:05.67\00:09:10.18 It generates energy, 00:09:10.21\00:09:11.88 it provides power to your cells. 00:09:11.91\00:09:16.12 So that part there that you can see at the top, 00:09:16.15\00:09:18.35 the blue part is like the turbine. 00:09:18.39\00:09:21.16 It twists things around and down at the bottom, 00:09:21.19\00:09:24.83 the red part is the generator part. 00:09:24.86\00:09:27.16 It makes this substance called ATP. 00:09:27.20\00:09:31.30 And you can see 00:09:31.33\00:09:32.67 that they're joined by a protein 00:09:32.70\00:09:34.07 that transfers that twisting energy, 00:09:34.10\00:09:36.94 a drive shaft. 00:09:36.97\00:09:38.31 Okay. Protein. 00:09:38.34\00:09:39.74 So without the protein, 00:09:39.77\00:09:43.01 nothing would be happening. 00:09:43.04\00:09:44.38 Exactly, you'd have a generator or sorry, 00:09:44.41\00:09:46.98 a turbine spinning around doing nothing 00:09:47.02\00:09:49.18 and the generator sitting there doing nothing 00:09:49.22\00:09:51.45 without that drive shaft 00:09:51.49\00:09:53.42 protein joining the two things together. 00:09:53.46\00:09:56.16 Is it fair to say a protein 00:09:56.19\00:09:57.66 in as a building block for at the cellular level? 00:09:57.69\00:10:01.26 Yes. Oh, yes, yeah. 00:10:01.30\00:10:03.03 They are the very parts of these machines 00:10:03.06\00:10:06.23 are made out of and if you're missing some of the parts, 00:10:06.27\00:10:08.57 the machine isn't going to function at all. 00:10:08.60\00:10:10.81 It certainly, 00:10:10.84\00:10:12.17 all of these machines require a set of parts. 00:10:12.21\00:10:14.58 So one protein isn't going to do much for you, 00:10:14.61\00:10:17.21 you've got to have a whole lot. 00:10:17.25\00:10:18.58 Here's another machine that's also involved in 00:10:18.61\00:10:21.05 what we call the energy metabolism of the cell. 00:10:21.08\00:10:23.35 Let's not worry. 00:10:23.39\00:10:24.72 So this is a little bitty microscopic thing 00:10:24.75\00:10:26.52 we just looked at. 00:10:26.55\00:10:27.89 Yeah, this is just another way of showing 00:10:27.92\00:10:30.23 what these machines look like. 00:10:30.26\00:10:32.73 And the different colors are different proteins there. 00:10:32.76\00:10:35.20 How amazing. 00:10:35.23\00:10:37.73 Really a complicated thing, the reason I wanted you to see 00:10:37.77\00:10:40.84 that particular one 00:10:40.87\00:10:42.70 is because it's part of something 00:10:42.74\00:10:44.17 we call the glycolytic pathway, 00:10:44.21\00:10:46.61 that means sugar splitting pathway. 00:10:46.64\00:10:50.51 This is 10 different machines that are equally complex, 00:10:50.55\00:10:56.28 sometimes more complex than that one 00:10:56.32\00:10:57.92 that I just showed you 00:10:57.95\00:10:59.62 and each one of them has to do their job 00:10:59.65\00:11:03.73 because if they don't, 00:11:03.76\00:11:05.23 you've got a big problem on your head, 00:11:05.26\00:11:07.26 you're turning sugar, in this particular case, 00:11:07.30\00:11:09.60 into another chemical cold Pyruvate 00:11:09.63\00:11:12.23 and you're getting energy out of the sugar. 00:11:12.27\00:11:15.37 The problem is, 00:11:15.40\00:11:16.74 you've got to put energy in the beginning, 00:11:16.77\00:11:18.57 this is like lighting a match to start a fire, 00:11:18.61\00:11:21.51 you're putting a little bit of energy in. 00:11:21.54\00:11:23.81 And it's not until later on in this process 00:11:23.85\00:11:27.15 that you start getting out chemicals 00:11:27.18\00:11:28.92 that are actually useful for energy. 00:11:28.95\00:11:31.72 So that protein 00:11:31.75\00:11:33.89 so that you know that protein is that step number six 00:11:33.92\00:11:38.23 in this series of steps 00:11:38.26\00:11:43.47 in this assembly line. 00:11:43.50\00:11:45.40 If you want to call, it's a de-assembly line. 00:11:45.43\00:11:47.17 So splitting the sugar is what gives us the energy 00:11:47.20\00:11:50.31 and if any one of these steps is missing, 00:11:50.34\00:11:53.04 it's not gonna happen. 00:11:53.07\00:11:54.41 And every single living things 00:11:54.44\00:11:56.64 has this whole pathway in there. 00:11:56.68\00:11:59.25 It's not just one or two machines, 00:11:59.28\00:12:01.28 it's a whole set of machines working together. 00:12:01.32\00:12:05.29 In every little cell. 00:12:05.32\00:12:06.76 In every single human cell, in every single rat cell, 00:12:06.79\00:12:11.63 in every single fish cell, in every single bacterial cell, 00:12:11.66\00:12:15.80 every single plant cell. 00:12:15.83\00:12:17.17 That's amazing. 00:12:17.20\00:12:18.53 Yeah, it's jaw dropping, when you think about it. 00:12:18.57\00:12:22.24 Okay. 00:12:22.27\00:12:23.61 So what can we learn from this? 00:12:23.64\00:12:26.57 What does this tell us about the Creator? 00:12:26.61\00:12:30.11 Well, remember what Paul said about power, 00:12:30.15\00:12:36.05 God's eternal power. 00:12:36.08\00:12:38.19 I would suggest that there are two things. 00:12:38.22\00:12:42.06 First of all, "God's power is revealed 00:12:42.09\00:12:45.69 in the numerous machines He created 00:12:45.73\00:12:50.07 so that life can exist." 00:12:50.10\00:12:52.17 In addition, "His power to create and sustain 00:12:52.20\00:12:57.47 is revealed in the intricate mechanisms 00:12:57.51\00:13:00.88 hidden within living things." 00:13:00.91\00:13:02.98 So these are invisible to us. 00:13:03.01\00:13:05.81 And yet when we dig down, when we zoom in, and look, 00:13:05.85\00:13:10.52 there they are, and they tell us 00:13:10.55\00:13:13.09 something profound about the Creator's power. 00:13:13.12\00:13:17.76 That is astonishing. 00:13:17.79\00:13:20.33 I think, I want to just think about for a moment how God... 00:13:20.36\00:13:26.90 The Bible says, 00:13:26.94\00:13:28.27 "We are fearfully and wonderfully made," 00:13:28.30\00:13:30.11 and how amazing it is 00:13:30.14\00:13:32.51 that all of this is going on in every cell of our body. 00:13:32.54\00:13:36.75 Think about how amazing it is 00:13:36.78\00:13:38.65 that we're as healthy as we are, 00:13:38.68\00:13:40.72 when there is so many things that could go wrong. 00:13:40.75\00:13:42.85 It's a miracle, isn't it? 00:13:42.88\00:13:44.22 It is. 00:13:44.25\00:13:45.59 And we're going to talk a little bit more 00:13:45.62\00:13:46.96 about this miracle, 00:13:46.99\00:13:48.39 but we're going to do it 60 seconds from now. 00:13:48.42\00:13:51.53 So please do not go away. 00:13:51.56\00:13:53.23
